The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. Hell yo, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
[0:26] Speaker 1: to over four hundred and fifty stories written just for you.
[0:31] Speaker 1: Our Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only.
[0:36] Speaker 1: Harry and Lewis are Premium members from Maryland, USA, and
[0:41] Speaker 1: they would like a story with saber toothed tigers and
[0:44] Speaker 1: a fox. Don't forget to listen to the animal facts
[0:47] Speaker 1: after the story to learn more about these creatures. For now,
[0:52] Speaker 1: it's time to sit back and get comfy, because it's
[0:54] Speaker 1: time to begin saber toothed siblings. Long long ago, in
[1:03] Speaker 1: a place that would one day be known as Florida,
[1:06] Speaker 1: tooth sabertoothed tigers ruled the land. It was the age
[1:11] Speaker 1: of the megafauna. Huge wooly mammoths, lumbering giant sloths, and
[1:18] Speaker 1: terrifying terror birds roamed to the plains, as well as
[1:22] Speaker 1: herds of camels, horses, and bison. Although it was the
[1:27] Speaker 1: ice age for much of North America, the glaciers didn't
[1:31] Speaker 1: reach this far south. Instead, the area was made up
[1:35] Speaker 1: of scrubland prairie and rocky foothills. To survive there, it
[1:42] Speaker 1: helped to be big, strong, and tough, which was why
[1:45] Speaker 1: the pair of sabertoothed tigers did so well. Harry and
[1:51] Speaker 1: Lois were siblings, meaning they were cubs from the same litter.
[1:55] Speaker 1: They'd found that sticking together was much better than being alone,
[1:59] Speaker 1: so they traveled as a pair, rarely out of the
[2:02] Speaker 1: other's sight. When they worked together, prey didn't stand a chance.
[2:08] Speaker 1: When other predators tried to move into their territory, they
[2:12] Speaker 1: were quickly driven away. Even the humans that occasionally stopped
[2:17] Speaker 1: to set up camp didn't hang around for long. It
[2:21] Speaker 1: was one such camp site recently abandoned that Harry and
[2:25] Speaker 1: Lois found one morning before the sun had even risen
[2:29] Speaker 1: above the horizon. It stinks of humans here, Harry said.
[2:35] Speaker 1: They haven't been gone long. Good ridance, Lois replied. They're
[2:41] Speaker 1: always so noisy. They scare all the prey away. It's
[2:46] Speaker 1: all so scary. What animals they're willing to go after,
[2:49] Speaker 1: Harry said, do you remember when they attacked that cave bear?
[2:54] Speaker 1: A cave bear. They're either foolish or they don't feel fear.
[3:00] Speaker 1: I don't care, Lois replied, as long as they leave
[3:04] Speaker 1: us alone. But if they did try to attack us, well,
[3:08] Speaker 1: now that would be foolish. They were just about to
[3:13] Speaker 1: move on when Lois saw they were being watched from
[3:16] Speaker 1: amongst the grass. She snarled, thinking one of the humans
[3:20] Speaker 1: had returned, but calmed down when she saw it was
[3:23] Speaker 1: just a skinny gray fox. The saber tooths had nothing
[3:28] Speaker 1: to fear from a fox, and they'd have forgotten it
[3:31] Speaker 1: was even there if it hadn't rushed forward to snatch
[3:34] Speaker 1: up a piece of animal hide that the humans had
[3:37] Speaker 1: left behind. It disappeared back amongst the grass just as
[3:42] Speaker 1: quickly as it had appeared. A fox wouldn't normally get
[3:47] Speaker 1: that close to us, observed Lois. I think it's getting
[3:51] Speaker 1: harder for them to find food, Harry replied, speaking of which,
[3:56] Speaker 1: let's go catch us some breakfast. Lois agreed, happy to
[4:02] Speaker 1: leave the stench of humans behind them. Breakfast turned out
[4:07] Speaker 1: to be a bison, not an easy meal to catch,
[4:10] Speaker 1: but easier when there were two of you. Half Way
[4:14] Speaker 1: through their meal. Lois sat up suddenly, saying, what was that?
[4:19] Speaker 1: It's the fox, Harry said, she's been following us. She
[4:24] Speaker 1: must be hoping for some of our meal. Lois located
[4:28] Speaker 1: where the fox was watching them from. It really was
[4:32] Speaker 1: a skinny creature. She tore off a chunk of meat
[4:36] Speaker 1: and tossed it in the fox's direction. It was snatched
[4:39] Speaker 1: up instantly. What did you do that for, said Harry
[4:44] Speaker 1: with a disapproving look. Lois shrugged. She was hungry, she replied,
[4:51] Speaker 1: we can spare a little. She expected her brother to
[4:55] Speaker 1: complain further, but surprisingly he said nothing. If you'd like
[5:00] Speaker 1: to hear more, please join our premium service. You can
[5:04] Speaker 1: find out how in the description. The premium service means
[5:08] Speaker 1: you can listen to all animal tales stories advert free,

[5:16] Speaker 1: suggestion into a future tale. I look forward to seeing
[5:20] Speaker 1: you there.
