The adverts are not chosen by us, but played automatically depending on the platform you listen through (Apple Podcasts, Spotify, etc) and the country you live in. The adverts may even be different if you listen to the story twice. We have had a handful of instances where an advert has played that is not suitable for a family audience, despite the podcast clearly being labelled for children. If you’re concerned about an advert you hear, please contact the platform you are listening to directly. Spotify, in particular, has proven problematic in the past, for both inappropriate adverts and the volume at which the adverts play. If you find this happening, please let Spotify know via their Facebook customer care page. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s advert free.

[0:00] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to a special taster of our new
[0:03] Speaker 1: premium only story. We hope you like it. Hey Yale, Hello,
[0:23] Speaker 1: I'm Josephine and this is the Animal Tales podcast, home
[0:27] Speaker 1: to over four hundred stories written just for you. Our
[0:31] Speaker 1: Friday story is especially for our Premium subscribers only. Sophie
[0:36] Speaker 1: and Finn are Premium members from Belfast in Northern Ireland
[0:41] Speaker 1: and they would like a story with a leopard, a
[0:44] Speaker 1: fawn and a stegosaurus. Don't forget to listen to the
[0:48] Speaker 1: animal facts after the story to learn more about these creatures.
[0:52] Speaker 1: For now, it's time to sit back and get comfy,
[0:55] Speaker 1: because it's time to begin Fawn on the Lawn. Once
[1:02] Speaker 1: upon a time, in a land far away from here,
[1:06] Speaker 1: there lived a nome. He was a very small fellow,
[1:10] Speaker 1: and he'd made his home beneath the roots of an
[1:12] Speaker 1: old tree, deep in a forest. The tree itself was
[1:16] Speaker 1: surrounded by tall grasses and wild flowers, meaning that his
[1:21] Speaker 1: home was well hidden from prying eyes. However, he did
[1:25] Speaker 1: keep a small patch the size of a door, mat
[1:29] Speaker 1: neatly trimmed right outside his door. This was the Nome's lawn,
[1:34] Speaker 1: and he was very proud of his smart little garden.
[1:39] Speaker 1: That was until one morning, after putting on his red
[1:42] Speaker 1: pointy hat, he stepped out of his home and found
[1:46] Speaker 1: something on his lawn, more to the point it covered
[1:51] Speaker 1: all of his lawn. It was a fawn, a very
[1:55] Speaker 1: young deer, and it had curled itself up upon the
[1:58] Speaker 1: neatly trimmed grass. You can't lie there, cried the gnome.
[2:05] Speaker 1: That's my beautiful lawn. Surprised, the fawn lifted her head
[2:11] Speaker 1: and looked down on the little man. Please let me stay,
[2:16] Speaker 1: she said, sadly. I'm lost and all alone, and the
[2:21] Speaker 1: forest is a dangerous place for one as young as me.
[2:25] Speaker 1: I feel safe here on your little lawn, surrounded by
[2:28] Speaker 1: the tall grass. The nome didn't know what to say.
[2:34] Speaker 1: His lawn was precious to him, but he could hardly
[2:37] Speaker 1: turn away the young deer to face the dangers of
[2:40] Speaker 1: the forest alone. I think you'd best stay, he said,
[2:45] Speaker 1: at last, at least until your mother finds you. Do
[2:49] Speaker 1: you have a name, he asked. I'm Sophie, said the fawn,
[2:55] Speaker 1: and I'm thin, announced the gnome. Now tight, even here,
[3:01] Speaker 1: you may not be safe, although there might be something
[3:05] Speaker 1: I can do to help. He ducked his pointy hat
[3:08] Speaker 1: back through the door and went to find his spell book.
[3:13] Speaker 1: G Nomes are not naturally magical, but Finn had found
[3:17] Speaker 1: he had a talent for it after spending some time
[3:20] Speaker 1: with a wizard the previous year. On a shelf beside
[3:24] Speaker 1: the fireplace, he kept a small leather bound book into
[3:28] Speaker 1: which he'd noted down several potions, and it was through
[3:32] Speaker 1: the pages of this that he now flicked. Ah, this
[3:37] Speaker 1: is the one, he said, tapping the paper with a fingertip.
[3:42] Speaker 1: Carrying the book through to the kitchen, Finn soon got
[3:45] Speaker 1: to work preparing a brew. He re emerged on the
[3:50] Speaker 1: edge of the lawn a short time later holding a
[3:52] Speaker 1: bowl of steaming liquid. Drink this, he said. What is it?
[3:59] Speaker 1: Asked Sophie, who, being so young, had only ever drunk
[4:03] Speaker 1: her mother's milk. It's a potion of protection, said the nome.
[4:09] Speaker 1: I've never made it before, but it's supposed to keep
[4:12] Speaker 1: you safe. Will you try it if you think it
[4:17] Speaker 1: will help, agreed the fawn. So she bent her head
[4:20] Speaker 1: down and lapped for the bowl. The liquid tasted sweet.
[4:26] Speaker 1: How do you feel, asked Finn, any different? Not really,
[4:32] Speaker 1: admitted Sophie. Well, here's hoping it's done some good, Finn said,
[4:39] Speaker 1: I need to go out and gather mushrooms and berries,
[4:42] Speaker 1: but I'll look out for your mother while I'm gone.
[4:45] Speaker 1: He quickly ducked inside to collect his basket, then disappeared
[4:50] Speaker 1: amongst the long grass, leaving the fawn alone upon the lawn.
[4:56] Speaker 1: The forest was full of all manner of creatures, some
[4:59] Speaker 1: less friendly than others, and one of the meanest just
[5:03] Speaker 1: so happened to be passing nearby, a savage, hungry leopard.
[5:09] Speaker 1: If you'd like to hear more, please join our premium service.
[5:12] Speaker 1: You can find out how in the description. The premium
[5:17] Speaker 1: service means. You can listen to all animal tales stories
[5:20] Speaker 1: advert free, get bonus stories, and we guarantee to turn
[5:24] Speaker 1: your animal suggestion into a future tale. I look forward
[5:28] Speaker 1: to seeing you there
