In this episode of The Money Mentor, Deb and Kieran share their powerful financial turnaround after more than three decades of marriage and years of financial pressure. After relocating from Queensland to Darwin, they found themselves stuck with low income, ongoing mortgage stress, and a series of costly financial mistakes, including a non-compliant self-managed super fund. Their turning point came when Deb discovered an Infinity webinar online. Although initially skeptical, they decided to commit to learning a new financial strategy that challenged everything they previously believed about money. Within less than a year of joining Infinity, Deb and Kieran completely eliminated their bad debt, reduced their mortgage from $225,000 to zero, and shifted from survival mode into long term wealth and legacy planning. They have since acquired three investment properties and are focused on passing financial education to their children and grandchildren. Their story highlights the impact of mindset change, community support, and structured financial guidance, proving it’s never too late to reset your financial future and build something meaningful for the next generation. 👉 Follow the link https://bit.ly/43V2jKN to watch the free webinar and start your journey to financial freedom now!

## Transcript

[0:00] You come on thinking we're just going to pay off the mortgage, maybe we'll be lucky enough to get one investment property, but you far exceeded, I think, those goals.
[0:07] Yes.
[0:08] Do you think Infinity has been able to really shift that mindset a little bit for you or broaden those goals?
[0:14] During the masterclass, I can remember G was talking about paying stuff off with cash.
[0:19] So we bought our car with cash.
[0:21] Of course we had the money there.
[0:23] We did renovations with cash.
[0:25] Everything, we don't use visas or anything.
[0:28] Had no debt really except the mortgage.
[0:30] We were so proud.
[0:31] We were so proud.
[0:32] I think, oh, yeah, we're... We're doing good.
[0:34] Listen to what he's going to say now.
[0:35] We're putting ourselves on the back for paying cash.
[0:37] And I turned to Deb and I said, I think he just called us a dig head.
[0:42] And he's, yeah, so just that sort of mindset and just, you know, just getting that education now.
[0:48] Money is the root of all evil.
[0:49] The fucking lack of it is.
[0:51] Money, the lack of understanding money.
[0:53] When I put that into emphasis, when I realise that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I have to be in the fucking way.
[1:00] You are now watching the Money Mentor Podcast.
[1:02] With Graham Homes.
[1:04] Graham Homes.
[1:04] Graham Homes.
[1:08] You're fucking gone.
[1:09] See ya.
[1:10] Welcome back to the Money Mentor Podcast.
[1:12] This is an episode of Changing Lives Financially and I'm your new host, Money Mentor, Rachel Howlett.
[1:18] We have some awesome guests with us today here from Darwin.
[1:22] How are we going, guys?
[1:24] Can you introduce yourselves?
[1:26] We're well, thank you, Rachel.
[1:27] I'm Deb.
[1:28] I'm Kieran.
[1:29] Yep.
[1:30] And we're from Darwin.
[1:31] You are from Darwin.
[1:31] Yep.
[1:32] But originally from here.
[1:34] From, well, Ipswich.
[1:35] Yeah.
[1:36] Actually.
[1:36] Yep.
[1:37] Queenslanders, but 23 years in Darwin now.
[1:40] Yep.
[1:41] Okay.
[1:41] Do we want to come back?
[1:42] Yes.
[1:43] Okay.
[1:43] Oh, okay.
[1:44] So we have a big goal.
[1:46] Perfect.
[1:47] Awesome.
[1:47] Well, let's start off with the big question.
[1:49] Tell us a bit about yourselves, your story.
[1:51] What led you here to infinity?
[1:53] We want to know it all.
[1:57] Over to you.
[1:59] So we've been married for coming up to 32 years now.
[2:03] Nice.
[2:04] Originally from Queensland, moved to Darwin in 2004 for work purposes.
[2:11] I guess we sold our house in Queensland to move to Darwin and that was way before there was any property booms in Queensland.
[2:18] So didn't do so well there.
[2:20] So it took us...
[2:22] quite a few years to get back into the property market in Darwin.
[2:25] We've owned a house up there for about 13 years.
[2:28] And when we moved to Darwin, we were quite low income earners.
[2:32] The job that we chose to do was, and I stayed at home with the kids predominantly.
[2:35] So,
[2:38] We struggled to pay off our mortgage.
[2:39] We're now grandparents in our 50s and still have a mortgage and we weren't sure how long we'd have to work to pay it off and get things done.
[2:49] I was Googling a lot trying to work out why our offset wasn't working.
[2:53] Turns out it wasn't linked.
[2:54] Oh, you were one of those customers.
[2:56] One of those.
[2:57] And through all my Googling, G started appearing in my socials and I watched the free webinar.
[3:04] Yep.
[3:04] And I was really nervous to tell Kieran about it actually because we've made some dumb financial decisions and I didn't want to tell him he'd think it was another dumb financial decision.
[3:13] But I eventually told him about it.
[3:15] He watched it and we signed up to do the webinar and here we are.
[3:19] Here you are.
[3:20] Oh, the masterclass actually.
[3:21] It always starts with that free webinar and then you get into the masterclass, yeah?
[3:26] You were a little bit sceptic, were you?
[3:28] I was very dubious, yeah.
[3:30] I wasn't keen at all actually.
[3:32] But I, before I get into anything, I normally listen to podcasts and read a fair bit.
[3:36] So I listen to quite a few of the podcasts with you guys.
[3:39] The Infinity Both Sides podcast.
[3:41] Yeah, just driving time from work, I'd listen to them.
[3:43] So I never had the visual, but I would listen to them or working in the art and stuff.
[3:47] And then there's one that got me across the line.
[3:50] I thought, yeah, I trust these guys.
[3:53] As in the people that you guys are interviewing.
[3:55] Yep.
[3:55] I didn't trust you guys yet.
[3:57] Do you remember?
[3:57] I still didn't trust them.
[3:59] Well, I wasn't.
[3:59] Trust the client.
[4:00] Yeah, yeah.
[4:01] Yeah.
[4:02] Well, Casey and Lenny it was because Casey, I think she mentioned she was a private investigator.
[4:06] Yep.
[4:07] And I'm ex-police and I thought, yeah, right.
[4:10] And she's a mum and I'm thinking, yeah, Mama Bear doesn't want to lose her money.
[4:13] Of course, yep.
[4:15] And the home, yep.
[4:15] Yeah, it got me across the line.
[4:16] But you trusted Casey and Lenny but not G yet.
[4:20] No, not G yet.
[4:22] The way he was dressed in that, I kind of like that.
[4:24] I like he was just laid back.
[4:26] Yeah.
[4:27] So this is the second time because the podcast just before, they said that they didn't trust G when they met him, when he was all suited up, suit, tie, but they loved it when he was T-shirt, jeans.
[4:38] I just love what you see is what you get.
[4:39] Right?
[4:40] And then we've had a comment recently on social media, you saw that, where we've had somebody say, oh, we can't trust someone who's dressed like that.
[4:46] So it's quite funny.
[4:47] Yeah.
[4:48] Okay, sorry, keep going.
[4:50] Yeah, so we did the webinar.
[4:52] I did the webinar on my own, I think, didn't I?
[4:54] Yeah, because I'd done it.
[4:55] You'd done it.
[4:55] And then we did the master class.
[4:57] And I think I got ADHD or something because sitting through that two days was doing my head in.
[5:01] But it was great.
[5:03] Some really good takeaways.
[5:04] So, yeah, we signed up.
[5:07] Didn't sign up for REM initially, but we just did REM last month.
[5:10] Okay.
[5:11] But you were a bit slow to start to come to the Real Estate Mastery.
[5:14] You wanted to just feel the same.
[5:15] Yeah, just sort of suss it out first.
[5:17] We live miles away from you all you guys and so we thought we'll suss it out and then we saw everything and then we had FOMO so we wanted to come to REM.
[5:25] It's always that FOMO that gets you.
[5:26] Yeah.
[5:27] But talk us through the journey of what that moment is in your life that you went, we need someone like Infinity or some help.
[5:36] Oh, well, there's a watershed moment for me.
[5:38] I can remember sitting on our veranda and just having a cup of coffee, I think, and thinking, shit, is this it?
[5:46] Yeah.
[5:47] Like, I'm 55.
[5:47] We owe 225, 230, I think, on our mortgage.
[5:49] I'm going to have to wait until I'm 70 at our rate that we were paying it off.
[5:53] And that's not even going to be able to retire.
[5:55] That's just to pay the mortgage off.
[5:56] Yeah.
[5:56] And I almost got depressed with it.
[6:01] So it was the masterclass that really got me because there's a few things that were said.
[6:06] And I actually thought, I can remember listening to G and him talking to some people.
[6:09] This lady that jumped on and she said something about she just bought a car but did it the wrong way.
[6:15] And you could almost hear the anxiety leave her body as he started speaking.
[6:19] Because just... And I said to Deb, I said, like, the mental health.
[6:22] This guy's actually fixing people's mental health through finance coaching.
[6:26] Yep.
[6:27] And it was like nuts.
[6:28] And that kind of went, yeah, sign me.
[6:29] And then when he said he's a contrarian, I went...
[6:32] yeah I love it he's not wearing a suit he's contrarian yeah he goes against everything goes against the crowd FTV I'm going yeah sign us up so yeah that was it I love that okay and you were our biggest skeptic so I love that that was that moment for you in the Mice Cust what about you
[6:47] I was pretty convinced from the get-go just because I had been listening to lots of podcasts as well and everything.
[6:53] And for me, I knew we had to do something.
[6:56] Like my mum passed away about 11 years ago.
[6:59] And when she passed away, my dad discovered that she had lots of credit card debt.
[7:04] And so he was reliant on us and the pension.
[7:09] And I just knew I just did not want that for us.
[7:11] And I didn't want that for our kids.
[7:13] So...
[7:14] Because you've got a big family.
[7:15] How many kids do we have?
[7:17] Three kids and four, well, three grandkids now, another one on the way.
[7:23] And I don't think it's stopping anytime soon.
[7:25] So we're going to get a couple more grandkids, I reckon, along the way.
[7:28] So, yeah, we've got a big family.
[7:30] So I didn't want, I know the pressure that I felt when Dad came to me and explained what was going on with Mum and his financial situation.
[7:38] I didn't want that to be our story for our kids.
[7:41] So...
[7:42] I was pretty sold out on doing this right from the get go.
[7:47] I just needed Kieran to see it as well.
[7:51] To be on board, yeah.
[7:52] Because we're very big on that, right?
[7:53] That both of the people in a couple have to be on board to work with us.
[7:57] So we got there eventually with Kieran.
[8:00] So that's good.
[8:01] And what do you think kept you financially stuck for so long?
[8:06] Oh, look, it was our income for a long time.
[8:08] We were very low income earners for a very long time.
[8:11] And then we took a career change.
[8:15] And now we do okay, we've got good jobs.
[8:18] So we were plugging away, we were barefoot investors.
[8:23] It actually really did help us a bit when we were low income.
[8:26] It set us up to be able to survive week by week, but it wasn't going to get us ahead anyway.
[8:32] Yeah.
[8:33] Good starting point.
[8:34] Good starting point, yeah.
[8:35] And when we were earning a decent income, I just don't think we had the tools to know what to do with that.
[8:41] We could go on holidays again and we'd never struggle to pay a bill, but we just didn't know how to make that really work for us and that's what infinity have given us.
[8:51] Amazing.
[8:52] Well, because you said you were sitting on the veranda, you're looking down, because how long did you have, in that moment, how long did you have left on the mortgage?
[9:00] Oh, 230k, so.
[9:02] In how many years?
[9:03] I think another 10.
[9:04] Yeah.
[9:04] Okay.
[9:04] No, it was longer than that, it was another 12.
[9:07] Yeah.
[9:08] So that takes me past...
[9:09] Yeah, whatever it was.
[9:10] We had an individual goal to try and do it in five.
[9:13] Yeah.
[9:14] And Kieran's like, there's no way we could.
[9:16] I'm like, I think we can.
[9:17] I think we can.
[9:17] But we just didn't know how.
[9:19] Yeah.
[9:19] And I think it was mindsets as well.
[9:22] Yeah.
[9:23] Definitely mindset.
[9:23] It wasn't just a wage.
[9:24] Like we were on very low money, but it was also a mindset.
[9:28] It's like that elephant, you know, it's got the pole on the ground and it's tied to it.
[9:32] It could rip it out.
[9:34] 100% it could rip it out.
[9:35] But we were in that sort of mindset where it's never going to get ripped out and you're sort of stuck walking around that pole.
[9:39] That's what we were doing with the banks, with everything.
[9:41] Just kept going around that same old mindset, stuck to the pole.
[9:45] Deb just said that we didn't have the tools or the strategy to get out.
[9:49] But now we have got the tools, the strategy and the strength to do it.
[9:53] Amazing.
[9:54] And you did say you had made some poor financial decisions in the past.
[9:58] Are you comfortable sharing those with our listeners?
[10:02] Yeah, we set up a self-money super fund that was quite...
[10:06] It was non-compliant.
[10:07] Yeah, it was non-compliant.
[10:09] Which is a big no-no with your super fund.
[10:11] It was one of those, I guess, hacks for the one of another word to sort of make some money fairly quickly with an opportunity that we thought we had.
[10:18] Yeah.
[10:19] And it just turned to yoghurt.
[10:20] It was no good.
[10:21] So we lost a significant amount of money there.
[10:26] And then the fees with this non-compliant...
[10:28] Yeah.
[10:29] To undo it.
[10:30] Yes.
[10:30] Well, to do it and keep it going, what we thought was compliant but it wasn't.
[10:34] Yeah.
[10:35] And then say, yeah, you guys fix that up for us, which has been really good.
[10:40] Okay.
[10:40] So that's also something we've done in the Infinity Journey as well.
[10:44] What else are some things that you've taken away from the Infinity Journey that you just did not think would be possible before meeting us?
[10:51] Something I probably never thought about, but like I start, I'm hearing conversations at work now where people are talking about, oh, I just signed up for another 30 years, I'm alone.
[10:59] I'm going, yeah, right, eh?
[11:01] I wouldn't have heard that before.
[11:03] That refinance recycle.
[11:04] Yeah, and they're doing that.
[11:05] You know, guys are buying cars and whatnot and then adding it on to their current mortgage.
[11:11] I never used to probably hear those conversations before, but now my ears prick and I go, yeah, right, well, I can tell you about something that might help you.
[11:16] Yeah.
[11:17] So I've got a couple of guys on the webinar and masterclass.
[11:20] Okay, so actually listening?
[11:21] Well, a small percentage, but, yeah, because it's that, you know, a lot of the chat I get back to me is, you know, that sounds too good to be true.
[11:31] Yes.
[11:31] Always.
[11:32] You know, so, well, you do you and I'm going to keep doing what we're doing, so... You do you, boo, as she said.
[11:38] Yeah.
[11:38] Yeah.
[11:39] And what was... What do you think's been the biggest change in your relationship since coming on board and now budgeting, having an FFF?
[11:50] I'd say just a vision and a hope for the future.
[11:53] Like me sitting on that brand, I felt hopeless.
[11:55] Yeah.
[11:56] It's depressing.
[11:57] And when you've got kids and...
[12:03] You're going to make me crack you.
[12:04] Yeah.
[12:06] I mean, these guys sacrificed a lot for what I wanted to do when we moved to Darwin.
[12:11] And I felt very responsible for that.
[12:15] So now to have hope and a vision and a future.
[12:18] Yeah.
[12:20] And we don't know exactly what we want to do.
[12:24] The sort of blinkers have been taken off now and the periphery's a lot bigger.
[12:29] So, yeah, we do want to come back.
[12:30] I've got an idea where I want to live, but Deb's just got to come on board with that now.
[12:34] Where do you want to live?
[12:35] I like the Tweed area.
[12:37] Okay.
[12:37] Yeah.
[12:38] I like down towards Pottsville.
[12:39] I can't do the hustle and bustle of the Gold Coast.
[12:42] Yeah.
[12:42] I don't mind it.
[12:43] But 24-7 for me, that'll do my head in.
[12:46] So, yeah, Pottsville, come to the Gold Coast from there.
[12:48] It's just down the road.
[12:49] Yeah, it's just down the road.
[12:50] Exactly.
[12:51] You're still on the coast.
[12:52] Yeah.
[12:52] And it's starting to see a lot of growth because of the Gold Coast as well.
[12:55] Yeah.
[12:56] Yeah.
[12:56] So, my vision... What do we have to do to convince you?
[12:58] No.
[13:00] Originally, I said, oh, I want the Sunshine Coast.
[13:02] Yeah.
[13:03] But then...
[13:04] It's so expensive.
[13:06] And we've lived in Darwin for so long now I wanted a bit more hustle and bustle.
[13:11] Yep.
[13:12] So we've just got to come to a compromise.
[13:14] Quite little town versus a little bit of hustle and bustle.
[13:17] Okay.
[13:18] Plus we want a house, not a unit.
[13:19] We were thinking a unit.
[13:20] Okay.
[13:21] And we want to be near the water.
[13:23] We want to be somewhere where our grandkids want to come and visit us.
[13:26] Of course.
[13:26] Because it's all about them now.
[13:28] Absolutely.
[13:29] Yep.
[13:29] So how do you feel after now doing the masterclass and being on board for a little bit now, how has that reshaped your confidence in your financial journey?
[13:38] Because, of course, it would have been shattered from having a non-compliant SMSF, having a little bit of skepticism of, oh, this is probably going to be another one of those scams to now being where you are today.
[13:48] How's that shifted for you?
[13:51] Well, I feel at peace about it.
[13:53] There's just no stress involved, which is weird because, you know, in all our decisions we discussed on should we buy an investment property and it was always no way because, you know, you think, oh, we'll buy one in the next suburb from where we are.
[14:09] But Kieran would drive past every day and kill the tenants if they hadn't moaned the Lord, you know.
[14:14] So we always thought that would be a really bad idea for us.
[14:17] But now you don't have any concerns.
[14:20] Well, now you go to work and you do your work, you do an overtime shift knowing that there's a goal.
[14:24] Yeah.
[14:25] You know, I feel like going back at the start line and not in a bad way because the vision ahead of us now, the starting where we are now is exciting.
[14:33] Yeah.
[14:34] I don't want to hit the finish line.
[14:35] I just want to start where we are.
[14:36] I know what's ahead and loving it.
[14:39] Yeah.
[14:39] You know, so you go to work just knowing that you're chipping away at this goal.
[14:43] Just follow the strategy.
[14:44] It's not actually that hard.
[14:46] Yeah, amazing.
[14:47] Look, you did mention guilt before, that you carried a lot of guilt with the decisions you made.
[14:52] How do you think that guilt impacted financial choices before coming to Infinity?
[14:57] Well, setting up the SMSF, is that what it's called?
[15:01] Investing in areas where we didn't know background checks.
[15:05] We just trusted someone that had done it before and had a win, but then there was no more wins after that.
[15:12] So desperate people do desperate things.
[15:14] And I think that's where I was probably at in my headspace.
[15:19] Yeah, because you want to get ahead.
[15:21] Yeah.
[15:21] So I'd say out of desperation, doing desperate things.
[15:25] Yeah.
[15:25] Okay.
[15:26] And now we feel more confident following a budget.
[15:29] 100%.
[15:29] Yeah.
[15:30] But you can understand where my hesitancy came from, I guess.
[15:33] Yeah, of course.
[15:33] You know, where I was dubious.
[15:34] So, yeah, it's just seeing another market thing come up on the internet.
[15:39] I'm thinking, oh, here we go.
[15:40] Yeah.
[15:40] But proof's in the pudding.
[15:42] It's just mathematics.
[15:43] It's working.
[15:44] It's just maths.
[15:45] We'll talk about where you started and where you are now because you have a pretty exciting update for where you are now.
[15:50] Yes.
[15:51] So pre-Infinity, like Kieran said, we owed about $225,000.
[15:57] But as I said, we were barefoot investors.
[15:59] So when we looked at it, we had a million bank accounts spread around and actually had about $100,000 sitting in all those different bank accounts that we thought may have been working for us, but turned out they weren't.
[16:12] The offsets weren't linked.
[16:14] Offsets weren't linked.
[16:16] I called the bank about three times and said, I don't think our offset's working.
[16:20] And they're going, no, it's fine.
[16:21] It's fine.
[16:22] And I was trying to do the math in my head and I'm not skilled in that area, but I just knew it wasn't working.
[16:28] Well, most people can't do that calculation.
[16:30] You trust the bank.
[16:31] That's right.
[16:32] That whatever you have sitting in those offsets is working for you.
[16:35] Yeah.
[16:35] Yeah.
[16:35] Yeah.
[16:36] So joined infinity, obviously all that $100,000 went straight on our mortgage.
[16:41] So about $125,000 when we started with infinity.
[16:46] And December sweep, we will be bad debt free.
[16:49] We will be bad debt free before Christmas.
[16:52] December 18, it will be.
[16:54] It will be our next sweep and that will pay off.
[16:55] The mortgage will be done and dusted.
[16:58] And how long has that taken you?
[17:00] Our first sweep was March, so March through to December.
[17:03] Less than a year.
[17:04] Yeah.
[17:04] But you've done over $100,000.
[17:06] Yeah.
[17:07] Originally we wanted to do it in a year when we joined Infinity and we thought maybe that would be a stretch but... No, you had to prove yourselves wrong.
[17:16] That's right.
[17:17] I love it.
[17:18] And how does that feel now?
[17:19] Have we talked to the kids about it yet?
[17:21] A lot, yeah.
[17:23] Yeah, it's good.
[17:24] I mean, I probably shouldn't have, but I sent that through because our relationship manager, Ellie, sent it through to just clarify the details, and they're all correct.
[17:32] I sent it through to the kids, and it was sort of, yeah, I just wanted to share that with those guys.
[17:37] Of course.
[17:37] And so it's pretty exciting.
[17:40] And what did they say for mum and dad?
[17:43] They're excited.
[17:44] We talk to the – like our one daughter has purchased a home, so we speak to her about infinity a lot.
[17:52] Our son is saving for a deposit and our daughter who lives in Brisbane, ooh, it scares me, her trying to buy a home in Brisbane.
[17:59] She's only 25.
[18:00] Queensland's having a crack a year if you're a homeowner.
[18:03] Yeah, that's right.
[18:04] Or a property owner.
[18:04] But, yeah, we talk to them a lot about it and –
[18:08] We'll hopefully be able to give them a few tips on how to pay their mortgage off a bit faster.
[18:13] Yep.
[18:14] And how does that feel being able to now pass that education on to them?
[18:17] Yeah, it's like break the cycle.
[18:21] Exactly.
[18:21] Yeah.
[18:22] Yeah.
[18:23] I was sharing with a couple I did the podcast with before, a little bit of my background where I come from a family, my dad was a jockey.
[18:31] And when you're earning money as a jockey, life's great.
[18:34] Prize money is fantastic and we had everything we wanted and Christmases were excellent.
[18:39] Like I thought my family does really, really well.
[18:42] But then my dad was forced into early retirement through an injury and...
[18:46] and the money stops mum's got to go get a job they didn't dad's like I wasn't educated on what do I do when I'm not a jockey anymore what's next for me so our life went from financial safety to not having any safety at all and then my parents divorced after that and they didn't have a g they didn't have an infinity to turn to so that cycle never broke for them yeah so it was up to myself and my siblings to do that and
[19:13] I was lucky enough to meet G and I can now break that cycle.
[19:16] But my parents didn't have that.
[19:18] So I'm very passionate about breaking that cycle for kids.
[19:21] So if we can teach you guys, you're going to teach your kids, bring them on board and life will be so different for those families.
[19:28] So if we, do you think we got your kids buy-in?
[19:31] I think so.
[19:32] I think they know it works.
[19:33] Our daughter's partner follows online at the moment and keeps an eye on it and keeps questioning us.
[19:38] And we have family lunch every two weeks.
[19:41] They come around and we've got a graph of how our payments have dropped.
[19:44] Yeah.
[19:45] And they're all looking at that.
[19:46] So, yeah, I think it's definitely, I think they're on board.
[19:51] Yeah.
[19:52] So your goals now have changed from feeling like you're in survival mode to now legacy.
[19:57] That's a word I love because that's now something you're going to be able to pass on.
[20:01] What sparked do you think that shift now?
[20:03] Of course, paying out the home loan, but is there anything else you've achieved with Infinity that's also helping that legacy?
[20:09] Well, we've got three investment properties so far.
[20:13] So far, yeah.
[20:14] So one through our now very compliant SMSF and two in our personal name.
[20:20] So two of the properties are in Victoria and one here on the Gold Coast.
[20:26] Yeah.
[20:26] So that's amazing.
[20:27] Something we never thought we would have is investments.
[20:31] So that's pretty cool.
[20:32] And I look forward to getting some more actually.
[20:34] I'm really excited.
[20:35] Because that's something huge to celebrate.
[20:37] Yes.
[20:37] Going from feeling like you would never even pay the home loan off to now we've paid the home loan off in less than 12 months.
[20:44] And how actually are we going to celebrate that?
[20:47] I'll probably have a say strip at the end of...
[20:50] Well, we are planning one for the end of next year, but I don't know, maybe a sneaky trip to Darwin to Bali is easier.
[20:56] Yes.
[20:56] So maybe when we pay off the mortgage, we might just do a long weekend.
[21:00] Oh, we can go a bit higher than that.
[21:01] Come on, Bali's too easy.
[21:03] Well.
[21:04] You've paid the home loan off.
[21:05] True.
[21:06] True.
[21:07] We'll have to think about it.
[21:09] I'm happy to go bigger than Bali.
[21:12] Kieran's right on board now.
[21:13] Because home loans paid off.
[21:16] A couple of investment properties.
[21:17] Originally in my mind it was like, oh, we'll just have all the kids over for dinner.
[21:21] We'll buy takeout that night and have a drink.
[21:23] But maybe that's aiming too low.
[21:26] Yeah, I think we need to go a bit higher.
[21:28] Casey and Lenny, your inspiration.
[21:30] You've seen what they've done over here.
[21:31] They're going to Canada this Christmas, white Christmas, yeah.
[21:33] So do we plan a 2026 white Christmas?
[21:36] Oh, man, he definitely doesn't like the cold.
[21:38] I don't like the cold.
[21:39] Okay, fair enough.
[21:39] So we need some heat.
[21:40] So Europe might be a nice one in our winter.
[21:44] Once you've moved to the Gold Coast, we don't really have cold winters.
[21:46] Portugal, Spain.
[21:47] Yeah, the Croatian coastline is pretty specky.
[21:51] Yeah.
[21:51] We'll do that.
[21:53] I know I've always, Europe's also one of my bucket list things.
[21:56] I've always wanted to do that La Tomatina festival where you go and they put all the tomatoes out on the street and you throw them at each other.
[22:03] Yes.
[22:04] I could see you two doing that.
[22:05] Yeah, that's better than running with the bulls.
[22:08] Yeah, I would definitely not do that.
[22:10] Yeah.
[22:10] Yeah.
[22:11] All right, maybe we need to aim a bit bigger.
[22:15] Sometimes it's really hard to get out of that small-mindedness actually.
[22:19] No, it's so true, right?
[22:20] So you come on thinking we're just going to pay off the mortgage, maybe we'll be lucky enough to get one investment property but –
[22:26] You far exceeded, I think, those goals.
[22:29] Yes.
[22:29] Do you think Infinity has been able to really shift that mindset a little bit for you or broaden those goals?
[22:35] During the masterclass, I can remember G was talking about paying stuff off with cash.
[22:41] So we bought our car with cash.
[22:42] Of course we had the money there.
[22:44] We did renovations with cash.
[22:46] We don't use visas or anything.
[22:49] Had no debt really except the mortgage.
[22:51] Yes.
[22:51] We were so proud.
[22:52] We were so proud.
[22:53] I think, oh, yeah, we're doing good.
[22:55] Listen to what he's going to say now.
[22:57] We're patting ourselves on the back for paying cash.
[22:59] And I turned to Deb and I said, I think he just called us a digger.
[23:04] And he's, yeah, so just that sort of mindset and just, you know, just getting that education now.
[23:09] Yeah.
[23:10] And I know it's said a lot.
[23:11] You don't know what you don't know, but it's.
[23:13] It is what it is, you know.
[23:14] So like just learning that's been great.
[23:17] And it's a continual journey of learning for me.
[23:19] I'm not – Deb's better at the figures and all that kind of stuff and the concepts.
[23:23] But I just have to go into the school thing and look at the app and let's waterfall again and keep going through it.
[23:28] Yeah.
[23:28] And just sort of learning that sort of stuff.
[23:29] Well, like you said, there's a lot we teach in that two-day master class, right?
[23:33] Yeah.
[23:33] So it's a lot to take in.
[23:35] But that's what's really cool about what we do.
[23:37] We do have that online platform that if you feel like you need that master class refresher, you jump on and it's right there.
[23:42] Yeah.
[23:44] How do you think that's helped with the journey and the mindset, the resources we provide?
[23:49] Well, as you said, you just got something to go to.
[23:51] You just hop in the search bar, waterfall and bang, it came up.
[23:54] And I could read through it and I went, oh, I get it now.
[23:57] It's all the stuff I still don't get.
[23:59] But, you know, it's good.
[24:01] The resources are there if you want to tap into it.
[24:02] The Facebook group as well, tap into that, use the search bar.
[24:05] Yeah, it's amazing.
[24:07] So it's good.
[24:08] Even REM last month, our first REM, we grasped some new things as well.
[24:12] Like we'd probably heard it three or four times.
[24:14] But just in that moment, it was like ding, ding.
[24:16] The little nuggets again.
[24:17] Yeah, we get it.
[24:19] Yeah.
[24:20] Yeah.
[24:21] And how did you feel seeing the bank balance and you're looking at it going, as of Christmas, we're bad debt free?
[24:28] Oh, it feels amazing.
[24:31] Like it's almost surreal.
[24:33] Yeah.
[24:34] I was going to say surreal.
[24:35] I don't know if it's quite sunk in yet, but yeah, it's amazing.
[24:39] Yeah.
[24:40] That's why we need a big celebration.
[24:41] Yeah.
[24:43] You've convinced me.
[24:44] That wasn't too hard.
[24:47] We're just going to find where and then get you to the Gold Coast.
[24:49] Yeah.
[24:50] Yeah, like even when we first thought, oh, maybe we'll move back to Queensland in, you know, I guess we're thinking five to seven years.
[24:58] Okay.
[24:58] And Kieran first started looking at properties and going, oh, they're so expensive.
[25:02] Like we still had that, oh, I don't think we can.
[25:05] But I think that we've had that shift as well now.
[25:07] Yeah, I think so.
[25:08] I was looking anywhere between Butterham Heads and Ballina.
[25:11] Okay.
[25:11] Anywhere along East Coast.
[25:14] So that's kind of my vision board.
[25:15] I keep looking at real estate.
[25:16] Well, I never used to look at real estate before.
[25:18] No.
[25:18] It wasn't even on the radar.
[25:19] You didn't think it was possible?
[25:20] No.
[25:20] Yeah.
[25:21] No, no way.
[25:22] It would have just made me more depressed, I think.
[25:24] So I look at that's more sort of vision board.
[25:26] I keep looking and saying, babe, what do you think of this?
[25:28] So we've gone from maybe a unit on a beach to, no, we definitely want a house and we want a here and these are the reasons why.
[25:33] So that's just starting to expand our vision with it.
[25:35] Yeah.
[25:36] Yeah, it's really good.
[25:36] We actually believe there's more possible.
[25:39] Yeah, 100%.
[25:39] Yeah.
[25:40] Wow.
[25:41] So which part of the investment journey do you think surprised you the most with Infinity?
[25:48] Oh, that's a good question.
[25:52] Probably just how kind of easy it is, really.
[25:56] That's exactly what I was going to say.
[25:57] Yeah, I'd say how easy it is because go back to the elephant on the peg, you don't know any different and you're just doing that same old routine and you're stuck in that rut.
[26:06] So, yeah, I'm surprised how easy it is.
[26:10] I mean, you've got a team of experts essentially at your fingertips, you know, a text, an email, you get a response straight away and you've got people that are finding properties that
[26:21] you know, they know a lot more than what we do about the property market.
[26:25] So just having that security of the team and the knowledge of the team is amazing.
[26:31] But also the depth that the team will go for you.
[26:33] Like, so when we did REM, G said something about the Sell Up Money Superfund and we thought, oh, I've got a question for our financial advisor now.
[26:41] Mm-hmm.
[26:42] And he was here.
[26:43] So we thought, we'll go see him in the break, caught up with him, and said, oh, could we do this, this, and this?
[26:49] And he goes, let's look into it.
[26:50] And then so we ended up having to email Toby, a financial guy, and then we just included everyone in the team.
[26:57] Yeah.
[26:57] But they said, send this through, this through, and this through.
[27:00] And they said, you can't do that yet because of these reasons.
[27:02] But the depth that they went to, just for that one question that went ping in my head,
[27:06] Yeah.
[27:07] That's just... We could have been fobbed off, to be honest.
[27:11] But the depth that they went to, I just really appreciated that.
[27:14] Yeah.
[27:14] Yeah, it was good.
[27:16] It was really good.
[27:17] So you feel like your whole team, because we give you a finance strategist, we give you a wealth strategist, a relationship manager, you've got a G, money mentors, you feel like the whole team really bends together.
[27:28] Yes, absolutely.
[27:28] To then lay out that strategy for you so it makes sense.
[27:31] Yes.
[27:32] Just got to get the team to come up to Darwin now and do a community event.
[27:35] Oh, have we not hit Darwin?
[27:36] I don't think we have yet.
[27:37] That'd be good.
[27:38] Yeah, we might have to rally a few more of you so we can get a community event going.
[27:41] Yeah, that'd be awesome.
[27:43] On community events, how do you find that has helped your journey with Infinity?
[27:47] Because we do give back a lot with those community events and Christmas party, which hopefully will get you to next year, the real estate masteries, the monthly accountability meetings.
[27:57] Talk to me about that as part of your journey.
[28:00] Well, it was interesting for us as well, that part of the journey, because we've
[28:06] Our previous jobs were church background people.
[28:09] We were pastors in a church.
[28:11] And- Is that what you went to Darwin for?
[28:14] Yes.
[28:14] So, which is obviously very community based.
[28:18] And we've just, for different reasons, we've moved away from that now.
[28:23] When we first saw this, it was a little bit scary because it,
[28:27] We weren't sure, you know, people say it's a cult.
[28:31] Yes, we hear that a lot.
[28:32] And in some ways it was a lot like the church community as well, but better.
[28:39] Not that you're calling church a cult, but like... No, no, I'm sorry.
[28:42] No, I didn't mean that at all.
[28:43] But it was a little bit terrifying for us at first, actually.
[28:47] But the more that we're getting, allowing ourselves to be involved and just following along on socials, really, and seeing how much people love the community feel and everything, it's encouraging for us.
[28:58] And we're keen to reach out to a few more Infinity people.
[29:01] We met some people from Darwin at REM and exchanged numbers and stuff.
[29:06] So hopefully we'll catch up with them.
[29:07] And then when you guys come up and do a community event... You'll have more.
[29:10] We'll be keen to be part of it.
[29:12] That was a bit of a step-by-step process for us.
[29:14] Yeah, we probably backpedaled a bit.
[29:16] And probably, to be honest, would have been the reason I probably didn't want to do REM initially.
[29:20] Okay.
[29:21] I thought, well, no, I just can't do this just yet.
[29:23] You know, let's just sit back and watch, suss it out, see how fair dinkum these guys are.
[29:28] And then we started getting some runs on the board and then seeing what you actually do.
[29:32] You're believing it actually is working.
[29:34] Yeah, because we'd done so many, oh, let's do this, and it didn't work.
[29:37] Yeah.
[29:38] It would have been easy to go, let's just do this.
[29:40] But...
[29:40] Let's just sit back and watch a bit.
[29:42] And people are genuine.
[29:44] Like we've learnt to pick frauds I guess over the years.
[29:48] So we sort of stand back and watch for a little while.
[29:50] Well you feel like you've come from experience with that side of things unfortunately.
[29:54] That's right.
[29:54] Yeah we've got a pretty good bullshit radar.
[29:56] Yeah.
[29:58] And yeah everyone is just so genuine.
[30:01] It's just really great.
[30:02] Yeah.
[30:03] So talk to me about your FFF.
[30:05] Now that we are bad debt free, we're still going to stick to the plan on sticking to a budget and our food feel fun?
[30:11] Absolutely.
[30:12] Yeah.
[30:13] We were just talking to Ellie about that recently, our RM Ellie, and said we're pretty comfortable with our FFF.
[30:21] Like it's little, but there's just the two of us.
[30:24] And I think seeing what we have achieved, we want to just continue on and we're not missing out on anything.
[30:31] So still having fun, still going out, date nights, still having date nights.
[30:36] Not really.
[30:37] We didn't go out much, to be honest.
[30:40] Um, I don't know.
[30:42] Kieran prefers my cooking.
[30:43] Yeah, I do actually.
[30:44] Yeah.
[30:45] That's actually really sweet.
[30:46] I like that.
[30:47] So we have, you know, weekend breakfasts on the veranda and stuff like that.
[30:50] And that's cool for us.
[30:51] I, we both have jobs that involve a lot of people.
[30:54] Like I'm in a management executive management sort of role.
[30:58] So people all the time.
[31:01] Kieran's around people all the time.
[31:02] So weekends are precious.
[31:05] Yeah.
[31:05] Us and family mostly.
[31:07] Yeah.
[31:07] And occasionally friends.
[31:08] And I work a lot of weekends as well.
[31:09] So yeah, to have a weekend at home and then to go out and eat food that's not as good as Debs anyway.
[31:15] Oh, isn't that beautiful?
[31:16] Yeah.
[31:18] It was all right.
[31:20] That's good.
[31:20] You're sticking to FFF.
[31:22] We still plan to keep doing that because that's where the waterfall strategy comes in, right?
[31:25] We've paid off the homes.
[31:26] Now we can maybe tackle another one.
[31:29] What does that look like now for you?
[31:31] We crunch the numbers there.
[31:32] Are we doing an updated strategy?
[31:34] We're not sure what happens now.
[31:37] Like we're sort of like, oh, what do we do when we've paid it?
[31:40] Because I don't think it'll be several months yet before we've got to start paying off any of our investment properties because they're being built.
[31:47] Yes, of course.
[31:48] Yeah.
[31:48] So it's like, what do we do with all that sweet money now?
[31:52] We just build it up.
[31:53] We'll have our white Christmas.
[31:54] Yeah.
[31:55] Well, we won't want to spend it all.
[31:56] Or a bike.
[31:57] No.
[31:58] Kieran wants a new push bike.
[32:00] Oh, push bike.
[32:00] I thought you were going to say motorbike.
[32:02] No.
[32:02] A push bike that's $7,000.
[32:04] That's a second one.
[32:06] It keeps him nice and healthy, doesn't it?
[32:08] Yeah, true.
[32:09] Okay.
[32:09] Can we back to work?
[32:11] No.
[32:11] Save money on fuel?
[32:12] No?
[32:13] Okay.
[32:14] Now, you mentioned you were a part of the church and you ran churches.
[32:19] How do you feel like this journey now, and especially now being debt-free, helps you with giving back?
[32:23] Because I know that's very big with the church.
[32:26] Yeah, absolutely.
[32:27] We love what you guys do with the...
[32:30] The Kmart Wishing Tree.
[32:31] Kmart Wishing Tree.
[32:32] The Salvation Army.
[32:32] All of that sort of thing.
[32:33] So, yeah, probably again, it was another thing we shied away from for a little while after the church.
[32:42] It was still important to us, but some of the values that we held didn't align with...
[32:50] Anyway, yeah, but being part of a community that wanna genuinely help people in need.
[32:56] You felt that was quite important to you.
[32:58] Very, very important and very much aligns with our values, our personal values.
[33:02] What we do.
[33:03] Yeah, so awesome.
[33:06] And yeah, we got involved this year, donated, and we weren't here to do the shopping for the Christmas party, but we dropped some gifts off to our local Kmart in Darwin.
[33:18] Yeah.
[33:18] Amazing.
[33:19] And took one of my grandsons along, the eldest one.
[33:23] How did that go?
[33:24] He's only three, but he's a pretty smart three.
[33:28] And I told him what we were going to do and I said, well, go and buy – you help me pick a present for a little boy who maybe wouldn't get something for Christmas.
[33:36] Otherwise, he said, okay, Grandma, but then you'll buy me something, okay?
[33:40] So he got it, but he wanted something out of it as well.
[33:44] But it's a start, right?
[33:45] Absolutely.
[33:45] We're starting from quite a young age.
[33:47] So have we started to see a shift with the kids and grandkids with what you're maybe able to teach them or what you've been able to achieve?
[33:56] I think they're probably sitting back and watching at the moment, to be honest.
[33:59] They'll probably watch this podcast too.
[34:01] Yeah, they'll see this.
[34:02] Yeah, I think...
[34:08] For a couple of them it probably seems too far for them at the moment.
[34:11] So they're just at the moment they're just saving, saving.
[34:13] And they're both, the ones that haven't got a house, they're both doing that.
[34:17] So that's all they can do at the moment.
[34:21] But yeah, I think they'll definitely come to us and go, how would you do it again?
[34:24] Yeah.
[34:25] If you had to start from scratch.
[34:26] So yeah.
[34:28] Yeah.
[34:28] But what do you think with what you're creating is going to do for them long term?
[34:33] Oh, hopefully that's going to set them up.
[34:35] Yeah.
[34:36] You know, we can help.
[34:37] Maybe not the kids, but the grandkids.
[34:39] Definitely the grandkids, yeah.
[34:40] Yeah.
[34:40] For the future, yeah.
[34:42] Okay.
[34:43] Now, as we've talked about, your debt reduction was very, very quick, less than 12 months.
[34:48] What do you think was the biggest thing that you focused on that accelerated that so much?
[34:54] Because you've really just done it with budgeting.
[34:57] it was sticking to the budget and I think you know previously our mindset was we've got to put this much here for our bills and this much here if we want to go on a holiday now where now everything's going yeah on the mortgage um and we can access it if we hit an emergency but it's working so much better for us yeah
[35:17] reducing the mortgage and reducing that interest that we're paying than it ever would in a savings account.
[35:23] Yeah.
[35:23] And did you feel like when you were running those multiple savings accounts, it was so easy to spend it, and now that shift has changed in the mindset?
[35:32] I think we're pretty good.
[35:33] Because of the church background, we're on very ordinary money.
[35:37] Yeah.
[35:38] So we had to, you know, be careful.
[35:40] So I can remember one stage, there's a certain account that I think they call it splurge, and you get, at one stage you're getting $12 a fortnight, and that was it.
[35:47] So my splurge on me was going to...
[35:49] It was $12.
[35:50] Yeah, my splurge is... That was between us, $6 each.
[35:53] $6 each, a fortnight.
[35:55] Oh my goodness.
[35:55] So my splurge was going down to the Shell server and getting a $2 coffee.
[36:00] Literally.
[36:00] Crazy stuff.
[36:01] Yeah.
[36:01] So we've never been big spenders.
[36:03] Now I understand why we only want to do Bali.
[36:06] Yeah, that's right.
[36:07] That makes a lot of sense now.
[36:08] Yeah, so see, there's still some mind shift.
[36:11] That's what I'm saying.
[36:11] The blinkers are starting to come off.
[36:12] So our periphery is changing, but it's like...
[36:16] Yeah.
[36:16] Yeah.
[36:16] But I still think having some of those habits is really important, right?
[36:20] Yeah, absolutely.
[36:21] You do want to celebrate that you're debt free now and start to really look at what's next.
[36:25] But I think still having those principles is still very important, right?
[36:29] Because you're going to keep those habits long term and you'll pass those on to the kids and grandkids.
[36:34] Yeah, yeah.
[36:35] And even though we've probably got a little bit more money to spend on Christmas this year, it's – you think about it, they've got so much already and it's like – you just don't want to be adding for the sake of adding.
[36:48] Yeah.
[36:48] It brings no value to anybody, so –
[36:50] Yeah, you start to think about what's really valuable and really important.
[36:54] You probably start to think maybe more experiences than things that you buy them and they can appreciate that a bit more as well.
[37:00] Yeah, and Casey and Lenny actually said that on their podcast.
[37:02] Like I think they asked the kids, what did you get last year?
[37:05] I can't even remember.
[37:06] You know what I mean?
[37:07] That's right.
[37:08] Hence the experience they're about to go on, I think.
[37:10] Yeah.
[37:10] I was speaking to Lenny at REM and he said, yeah, we're going soon.
[37:14] Yeah, it's this Christmas.
[37:15] Yeah.
[37:15] Yeah.
[37:16] Which they've just had an incredible journey.
[37:18] Yeah, it's great.
[37:19] Just like you guys and that's why you need to celebrate it.
[37:21] But you guys are very busy.
[37:23] You do have a lot of kids, a lot of grandkids.
[37:26] You've obviously been able to fit all of this into the mad family life.
[37:30] What would you say to other couples who may say they don't have time for any of this or time to manage their money the way you guys have?
[37:36] I'd just say make it a priority.
[37:38] Absolutely.
[37:38] Like we're in our mid-50s and I sort of talk to the guys at work that are the 25-year-olds who are right up to my age.
[37:44] And I say just have a crack.
[37:45] Look at the webinar.
[37:46] There's no obligation.
[37:47] Just have a look at it and then decide what you want to do from there because, yeah, you need to make it a priority.
[37:54] Because I know what it's like to feel depressed over this stuff.
[37:57] Yeah.
[37:57] And I say to the guys, like even the guys, the couple you had before us, I'm thinking, oh, man, I wish we were doing it at their age.
[38:03] I hear that a lot too.
[38:05] That is what it is.
[38:07] We're at where we're at.
[38:09] But the future's bright, so that's good.
[38:11] Yeah.
[38:11] Would you feel more empowered or powerful?
[38:14] What would you say your feeling is on all of this now and your journey or where you're at?
[38:18] Just the confidence.
[38:20] Confidence.
[38:20] That's a good one.
[38:21] Yeah.
[38:23] What else would you say?
[38:25] I think, you know, we live in a world of instant gratification, but you've just got to look beyond that.
[38:30] Like you don't have the time.
[38:31] It gives you time in the long run.
[38:33] It's a really good way to put it.
[38:35] Yeah.
[38:36] So put in the hard work now.
[38:39] You actually not, I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.
[38:42] No.
[38:42] And even the bike thing, I do want a new bike down the track.
[38:45] But we were looking at it after we paid the house off.
[38:49] But I don't want that now, probably until we move.
[38:51] Okay.
[38:51] You've actually changed your mind on that?
[38:53] Yeah, just because it could be seven or ten grand, I'm sort of thinking, keep chipping away at what we're doing and those years might shrink from five to seven, you know what I mean?
[39:00] Yeah.
[39:01] And buy the bike I want for the Northern Rivers Rail Trail.
[39:05] Yeah.
[39:06] So when we move there, so.
[39:07] And what's a better hire, Kiran?
[39:09] Be on a cycling downhill or watching that mortgage disappear?
[39:12] Oh, they're both good.
[39:16] But one enables the other, so.
[39:18] Oh, great answer.
[39:20] That was a great answer.
[39:22] And what feels more satisfying to you?
[39:26] between cycling down a hill no no just in general no paying off the mortgage is super satisfying to me and like like you think it's giving you freedom to be able to go out with the girls a bit more and say yes to things a bit more yeah definitely it's definitely done that and it's you know it's so funny since we've like I've
[39:51] work in the place I work but since we joined infinity I've had two promotions um which came with two pay rises which was pretty cool and just a few and a car and petrol provided and things like so all of these things just seem to fall in place yeah because I think our focus changed you
[40:13] mindset changing right manifesting is a big thing yeah and the power of positivity and you get back on you put out i think i the confidence moved across to my workplace as well so they saw something different in me as well and gave me more opportunity so it's not just your finances that you're changing this is deb who wasn't going to talk on the podcast by the way like she hasn't oh keep going dad you do all the talking today
[40:39] No, but I think, yeah, it's not just your finances that you're changing when you work with Infinity.
[40:44] It changes just about every area of your life.
[40:48] I love that.
[40:49] Yeah.
[40:49] That's really cool.
[40:50] I think it helps you start to advocate for yourself more.
[40:53] Yeah.
[40:53] Not just with your money and being able to ask for things, but it's like you said, it gives you that confidence to go, no, I deserve more.
[41:01] I can do more.
[41:02] Yeah.
[41:03] Which sounds funny from just a financial coaching kind of strategy, sort of what you guys do.
[41:07] Yeah.
[41:07] Because it almost sounds like with you saying that, that we've been schooled up to say a lot of this stuff.
[41:12] We haven't.
[41:12] We're just saying... Now we're just letting you go.
[41:14] Yeah, yeah.
[41:15] It's genuinely changed our life.
[41:18] We weren't given anything to say.
[41:20] We weren't told what to believe.
[41:22] Did our own sort of looking it up, listening to podcasts, joined, and the runs are on the board, mate, you know.
[41:28] Mortgage has paid off December 18th.
[41:30] Numbers don't lie.
[41:31] Yeah, numbers don't lie.
[41:32] It's just mathematics, you know.
[41:33] So it's definitely changed.
[41:36] For me, it's just hope for a better future.
[41:39] That's it.
[41:40] Yeah.
[41:40] And, well, looking, you know, let's look 20 years into the future or 10 years into the future.
[41:44] What do you hope your grandkids would be able to say about Nat and Pop?
[41:49] They set us up for life.
[41:52] I just think that they led the way, that they learned the hard way.
[41:56] We've had more hits than Elvis really with a few things.
[41:59] More hits than Elvis, I like that.
[42:01] But you've just got to keep going.
[42:04] I say to my kids, if I had any of them in the room now, I said, it's not how you start.
[42:08] And they go, yeah, Dad, it's how you finish.
[42:09] Yeah.
[42:10] So we're going to finish well.
[42:11] We didn't start great.
[42:13] Had a few bumps along the road.
[42:15] But I think particularly my son, Jack, he'd like that one.
[42:19] He goes, you know, it's not how you start, it's how you finish.
[42:22] I like that.
[42:22] Yeah.
[42:23] Well, what does that finish line look like for you?
[42:26] What does the next five or ten years look like for you?
[42:29] I just think keep working, doing what we're doing, stick to the strategy, stay engaged with you guys.
[42:34] I think that's important.
[42:37] You know, I've got no issue sending a text and humbugging and we call it humbugging in the Northern Territory.
[42:42] So, like, just, you know, just ask a question.
[42:44] There's no dumb question.
[42:46] So for me, the next five years is just working, doing what we're doing, keep chipping away at it.
[42:52] And I think, again, that vision is going to change for us.
[42:55] You know, we don't know exactly what it looks like yet.
[42:57] We'd love to add more property to our portfolio.
[43:01] I don't know how or when that's possible but that's your...
[43:05] Exactly.
[43:05] Well, the home's only paid off so I think it's strategy review time.
[43:09] Yeah.
[43:10] Absolutely.
[43:10] We'd love that.
[43:12] I like that because you kind of were talking a little bit about like how do we slow down but now that you're in this journey and you're seeing it and you're starting to build, are you kind of feeling okay to keep working if it means doing more?
[43:25] Yeah, and I don't think it's out of a greed mindset either.
[43:27] It's just out of a practicality kind of way that this is just how you do it, you know.
[43:34] Yeah, it's not a want, want, want mindset, to be honest.
[43:38] It's just it's helping people.
[43:41] Yeah, that's right.
[43:42] You know, it's helping us to help people as well.
[43:44] I think that perception's changed for us as well.
[43:45] Like building wealth might have almost been a dirty word before, whereas now...
[43:51] Yeah, landlords get a hard stick, don't they?
[43:54] But we need people buying homes.
[43:56] Yeah.
[43:56] We are so far behind in the demand that there's some people that just can't afford to do it.
[44:01] And if we can buy them to put a roof over their head, isn't that a good thing?
[44:05] Yeah.
[44:06] Yeah.
[44:07] Absolutely.
[44:08] Yeah.
[44:09] Now, if you would describe your Infinity Journey as a movie title, what do you think it would be called?
[44:15] Oh, gosh.
[44:19] No pressure if you don't have one because I've got one up my sleeve.
[44:21] Have you?
[44:22] Yeah.
[44:27] Actually came up with this one myself.
[44:28] It's not a movie that's already around.
[44:30] How do you like from veranda blues to cash flow views?
[44:35] I think that's your new motto.
[44:38] You said something about veranda blues.
[44:39] I was thinking of a current or a movie that's been already.
[44:41] I'm trying to think what would it sort of – a metaphor.
[44:44] You can come up with one or, yeah, you can –
[44:47] Yeah, Veranda Blues.
[44:48] To what was it?
[44:49] To what?
[44:49] What was it?
[44:50] From Veranda Blues to Cashflow Views.
[44:54] Yeah, I'll take that.
[44:55] Yeah, that.
[44:55] There you go.
[44:55] There's a new family motto.
[44:57] I'm not going to use die hard or anything.
[44:59] No.
[44:59] Yeah.
[45:00] Been there, done that.
[45:04] Awesome, guys.
[45:04] Well, thank you so much for sharing your story.
[45:06] Do you have any questions for me at all?
[45:10] Yeah.
[45:11] I was going to ask you, people our age, I guess, how do you balance risk aversion versus wanting to go, excuse me, balls to the wall and hard?
[45:25] Like how do we balance that?
[45:28] Obviously you guys help out, but how hard can we go at our age?
[45:33] It's a good question.
[45:34] We've got to look at everything holistically.
[45:35] That's the most important thing, right?
[45:37] And we've got to also ensure you're invested in the timeframe.
[45:41] The timeframe's everything.
[45:43] Now, thankfully we can work with banks if you're wanting to still look at lending that won't discriminate.
[45:50] Pending the overall scenario.
[45:51] So while you are working in the age that you are, if we can build you up as much as we can now with a strong asset position, banks are more likely to lend to you later on in life.
[46:01] You know, you probably would have heard from Lou on the masterclass.
[46:04] He's like 72 now and the banks are still giving him money.
[46:07] Yeah.
[46:07] And that's because of what he built when he could when he was a bit younger.
[46:11] And it all just comes down to holistically, so the numbers make sense.
[46:15] Are we bad debt free?
[46:16] Well, there's a tick for you guys.
[46:18] What assets did we acquire while we were working or a little bit younger?
[46:22] And how long are we willing to work?
[46:24] Because we need the income to be able to borrow money.
[46:27] as well there needs to be some kind of income coming in whether it's from superannuation cash flow from properties or a little bit of your employment income and how long are you willing to do that then we come up with that plan for you so really sky's the limit it depends on how fast and hard you want to go yeah right well that's good to know
[46:48] That was a good question.
[46:49] That was a really good question.
[46:50] Thank you for sharing.
[46:52] No worries.
[46:52] That's a nice question.
[46:53] Well, thank you so much, guys.
[46:55] I really appreciate it.
[46:55] I think we need a part two, so we need to look at that strategy.
[46:58] Yes, please.
[46:58] So I think that's in your future.
[47:00] And let's look at that holiday too.
[47:02] Okay.
[47:02] Sounds like a plan.
[47:04] You've been told.
[47:05] Excellent.
[47:06] Thanks, Rosanne.
[47:06] Thank you.
[47:07] You're fucking gone.
[47:08] See ya.
