## Transcript

[0:00] We never made any headway into that 30 year mortgage.
[0:02] After 20 years, we still had 21 or 22 years to go.
[0:05] Even the real estate agent said, are you sure you want to sell this?
[0:08] This is in a very good location.
[0:10] And no, we're gonna do it.
[0:11] It hung over us.
[0:12] It just really hung over us.
[0:14] Like that was a terrible decision to make.
[0:17] That weight lifted very quickly from October to April and whatever it was.
[0:22] We paid something like $70,000 off our principal.
[0:25] Now we've done more of that through rapid repay than what we would have done in years.
[0:33] Welcome back to the Money Mentor Podcast.
[0:35] I am your host, Rachel Howlett.
[0:37] We have another episode of Changing Lives Financially.
[0:40] Today we have Andrew and Angela.
[0:43] How are we, guys?
[0:44] Well, thank you.
[0:44] How are we feeling?
[0:45] Good.
[0:46] Yeah, really good, thanks.
[0:47] Not nervous?
[0:47] No.
[0:48] Megan and Jeremy put us at ease.
[0:50] Oh, they're awesome.
[0:51] They'll always do that.
[0:52] But it's really cool.
[0:52] We actually had a little interview at your first REM at the end of last year.
[0:56] So it's really cool that you're here to do a bit of a full length podcast to see how far you've come since joining Infinity.
[1:02] But we're not going to start there.
[1:03] I want to start before Infinity.
[1:05] Talk me through where you are in life, finances, investing, house, everything.
[1:11] I want to know everything.
[1:12] Yeah.
[1:13] Yep, so Ange and Andy have just moved from Adelaide.
[1:15] We live in the Adelaide Hills now.
[1:16] We met 22 years ago at the Police Academy.
[1:20] We're with South Australia Police.
[1:21] Because you're both police officers.
[1:22] Yes.
[1:22] Yep.
[1:24] Andy was 20.
[1:25] I was 27.
[1:26] So I got my claws into him.
[1:28] Got a nice young buck for yourself.
[1:30] He originally came for five years but then met me and I think he's still trying to find a way to come back.
[1:34] He's originally from Queensland.
[1:36] So, yeah, so we've been there ever since.
[1:39] We've got two boys.
[1:39] Yeah.
[1:41] 15 and 17 almost.
[1:44] And, yeah, we moved in pretty soon after we got together.
[1:50] About four weeks after we got together we went to – Wow, that's very – Yeah, we got posted to the far north of – She didn't muck around at all.
[1:55] No, no.
[1:56] She did not.
[1:57] I will say on that point when we got together, Andrew already had a house.
[2:00] Yeah.
[2:00] So we joked because I was only 20, 21.
[2:03] She brought a house to the relationship and I brought a milkshake maker.
[2:06] So –
[2:08] Made good milkshakes, yeah.
[2:09] So if anything ever went bad, there was going to be no milkshakes for Angela.
[2:12] But, yeah, so that's how we started with one house that Angela already had.
[2:16] Yeah.
[2:16] So we moved to the far north of South Australia, put our finances together straight away, like literally four weeks into the relationship.
[2:22] Yep.
[2:23] Wow.
[2:24] And our claim to fame is we've never argued about finances.
[2:27] We've always had the same goals.
[2:29] We weren't very good at completing those goals, which is why we're here.
[2:38] not been like other stories where we've bought and hold and held.
[2:42] Yeah.
[2:43] We did a lot of buying and selling.
[2:45] We bought a lot of houses.
[2:46] We sold a lot of houses.
[2:47] We don't have, like, paralysis by analysis.
[2:54] If we want to move, we move.
[2:55] If we don't like the house, we sold and we bought a new one.
[2:59] Our goal was always to...
[3:01] Be mortgage-free.
[3:02] Yeah.
[3:03] We just never executed it right.
[3:05] Because were you always upgrading?
[3:06] Like what was the thought process?
[3:07] Yeah, there was a little bit of upgrading.
[3:09] As our boys, when Oscar, our youngest, got a bit bigger, we wanted to upsize.
[3:16] So we went and bought another property and sold our principal place and then –
[3:25] started the 30-year loan again.
[3:27] Yeah.
[3:27] And then we've done that multiple times.
[3:29] So instead of constantly refinancing, you were constantly buying and selling and restarting again.
[3:33] Yeah, we never made any headway into that 30-year mortgage.
[3:35] We were kind of, after 20 years, we still had, excuse me, 21 or 22 years to go on our mortgage.
[3:42] So that was kind of where we were at of an overall look at it when it came to that we're not ever going to pay this off.
[3:50] Yeah.
[3:51] And that's where we were when infinity sort of came up.
[3:56] Do you remember what your average mortgage was every time you did that?
[3:59] Did it keep growing, increasing each time?
[4:02] Yeah, it did.
[4:02] Yeah, it did.
[4:02] Yeah.
[4:03] So I think, I mean, my first house I bought land and built for $160,000, which... Do you never do that now?
[4:12] No.
[4:12] I mean, I was a single girl at the time and that was a lot of money and there when Andrew jumped into the relationship, when we got together, sorry, that kind of released a bit of the burden there.
[4:22] And, yeah, we sold houses.
[4:24] We're gypsies.
[4:25] We like change.
[4:26] I should have married an army man.
[4:27] Yeah.
[4:29] No disrespect.
[4:31] We'd love change.
[4:31] If we ever went for a drive, you know, within South Australia, we liked a town, hey, let's move here.
[4:36] And we kind of couldn't do that work as well.
[4:38] So we could transfer wherever we wanted.
[4:41] Yeah, that flexibility, yeah.
[4:42] Where we went wrong was in the sort of property stakes was we'd move and we'd go, oh, we like this town, we're going to buy there.
[4:50] And then so we'd buy even though we had subsidised property
[4:53] So instead of maybe paying down our mortgage on our place in Adelaide, we would go there and go, oh no, we like this now.
[5:01] So then we'd buy there and then you'd go 30 year term.
[5:04] Again.
[5:04] Again.
[5:05] Yep.
[5:05] And then you'd kind of try and make some extra repayments, but it was nothing like we shouldn't.
[5:10] We're making no headway into it at all.
[5:11] Yeah.
[5:12] And I have to kind of take ownership there.
[5:14] We always, every time we bought a different house or we moved, we always had a goal.
[5:19] We moved to South East, South Australia in Mount Gambier.
[5:24] We bought a house there.
[5:25] Sorry, we actually had a house by the beach here in Adelaide.
[5:29] And we went to Mount Gambier.
[5:31] We went in police housing.
[5:32] And the goal was let's stay here, pay the mortgage off.
[5:35] The people renting our house will help us pay our mortgage.
[5:37] And we'll do that for five years and we will be mortgage free.
[5:40] And that was the goal.
[5:40] Yeah.
[5:41] And within how long of us being there?
[5:43] Probably nine months we'd sold that and bought locally and we're out of the Adelaide market.
[5:48] We're in a regional market.
[5:49] Yeah.
[5:50] Our 30-year term started again and.
[5:54] But it was always me.
[5:55] I would always come up with some new decision and because we don't fight about finances, we don't fight anyway, he never really.
[6:03] He's just like, let's give it a crack.
[6:04] Yeah, he's going to challenge me, which sounds bad, but he's like, okay, yeah, let's do it.
[6:07] Like he's just such an easygoing guy, but it was.
[6:11] To our detriment, not to say he was at fault, but it was always moving.
[6:14] I get what you're trying to say because a lot of people say we always fought about finances and that's obviously such a terrible thing that a lot of people do.
[6:21] It's one of the biggest reasons why people get divorced.
[6:23] But then there is that other end of the spectrum where it's like maybe you're too relaxed.
[6:27] You're not questioning those decisions a bit more and you're like, happy wife, happy life.
[6:32] Yeah, and I went against my instinct.
[6:34] My instinct was not to sell that beachside house in Adelaide.
[6:37] I thought it would do well.
[6:40] and then I personally went against my instincts.
[6:43] I thought, okay, well, we can – and sort of found a way to justify it.
[6:46] Yeah.
[6:47] We did have our place in Mount Gambier and the beach side for a while, and then we sold the beach side one and then moved back to Adelaide six months later and needed to buy another house.
[6:56] Wow, there was so much movement.
[6:57] So we did it again.
[6:58] But the problem with me is I never really until infinity thought of –
[7:04] Debt as good debt, bad debt.
[7:05] Yes.
[7:05] It was always just one consolidated debt.
[7:07] If it was a million dollars, it choked me.
[7:10] Yeah.
[7:11] Andy and I come from two very different backgrounds as far as our family is concerned, whereas his family made decent money, had their own business.
[7:19] Money was never really spoken about, nor was he educated in that field.
[7:23] It was just we spent, we went on holidays.
[7:25] It was there, we're okay.
[7:26] Yeah.
[7:27] My family was completely different.
[7:28] We didn't have money.
[7:29] My mum had to budget down to the cent.
[7:33] Yeah.
[7:33] She lived the philosophy of infinity as far as the budget, knew what went in, what went out.
[7:39] It's very stringent but didn't have that –
[7:42] investment knowledge.
[7:44] Couldn't go much further than that.
[7:45] Couldn't go.
[7:46] One to two but couldn't.
[7:47] Were they quite stressful?
[7:49] And to this day money gets spoken about every visit, every conversation.
[7:55] And for me it was quite a heavy thing on my chest.
[7:59] I didn't want to live like that.
[8:00] And whilst the strategy we're doing now is exactly what my mum has been preaching for the past 50 years and she'd kill me if she knew I was doing this, she doesn't know.
[8:11] What she did was out of necessity.
[8:12] Yeah.
[8:12] And I didn't want to live like that.
[8:14] Yeah.
[8:14] We earned good money.
[8:15] Because there's two different ways you can do a budget.
[8:18] Yes.
[8:18] Right?
[8:19] Again, out of necessity, no choice.
[8:20] It's hard.
[8:22] Anxiety, paycheck to paycheck.
[8:24] And when you're sitting in that, it just feels like everything's so hard.
[8:27] Yeah.
[8:27] Or there's the way you guys are doing it now where it just feels so calm and freeing and light.
[8:32] Yeah.
[8:32] Yeah.
[8:33] And with the FFF, we adjusted that very quickly because of the very clear strategy that we now had as a result of becoming members of Infinity.
[8:44] We went away from it going, we now know what we're doing and the FFF is perfect.
[8:50] part of that.
[8:50] You have structure.
[8:51] So it hasn't been difficult to adjust because we know what we're doing or where we're heading.
[8:56] And we've been pretty all over the place with zero investment strategy for 20 years and now we've got a very clear picture on where we're going.
[9:05] So we just fall in line with what needs to be.
[9:08] It's just one piece of the puzzle that we follow.
[9:10] Yeah, and it feels good.
[9:11] Yeah, really good.
[9:13] We don't worry about money anymore at all.
[9:16] And when it gets to the end of the week and we're due a top-up on our FFF, if we've had a bad week, usually it's because I've spent too much on coffee.
[9:24] But all in all, we've just adjusted to it so quickly.
[9:28] And it just, okay, well, there's a purpose for this.
[9:31] If this story has inspired you to take control of your financial future, your journey starts with our free educational webinar.
[9:38] Click the link below this video to get started today.
[9:41] Because talk me through 2019 with that really bad financial decision that happened to your family.
[9:46] So we owned a beachside property that we bought in 2012.
[9:50] Yeah.
[9:52] For a pretty good price that people would be, you know, well before anything went silly in the property stakes.
[9:59] And we held on.
[9:59] We lived in it.
[10:01] And then we wanted a country change and we moved to Mount Gambier.
[10:05] And so we held on to that for seven years.
[10:08] And then in 2019 we decided, no, it was April 2019 we went.
[10:15] Ange wanted to sell it and I was against it for a little while.
[10:19] And then I understood her argument that let's simplify life.
[10:23] We don't need all these debts.
[10:24] Yeah.
[10:25] And I thought, oh, I think it's going to do well.
[10:27] That was that fear of the debt that was creeping in.
[10:29] And even a real estate agent said, are you sure you want to sell this?
[10:32] This is in a very good location.
[10:34] And we went, no, we're going to do it.
[10:37] So that was April 2019.
[10:40] We sold it.
[10:42] And then at the end of 2019, I think it was October, we decided that our life in Mancambia, we needed a change.
[10:50] Yeah.
[10:51] And we had to move back to Adelaide.
[10:54] Yeah.
[10:54] Yeah.
[10:55] So for the next few years after that, it hung over us.
[11:00] It just really hung over us.
[11:01] Like that was a terrible decision to make.
[11:04] We were living in a house, a principal place, a residence house, which we'd purchased in 2020 that we didn't love.
[11:12] And in an area that was...
[11:14] that we didn't love and we had this beachside thing just down the road that we'd just sold and looked at somewhere back and it hung over our head like a dark cloud.
[11:23] COVID happened and so prices skyrocketed.
[11:27] It just absolutely boomed in Adelaide.
[11:29] I think we sold it for like $700,000 and something thousand and then, you know, you'd go on real estate and it was worth $1.6,000, $1.7,000 and we would have been mortgaged.
[11:38] Yeah, it made about $180,000 in seven years.
[11:41] Prior to that, yeah.
[11:42] And then it kind of doubled in...
[11:45] for like three or four years and we were like we could own that outright if we'd just stuck to our original plan.
[11:51] Really hung over our head like a dark cloud for probably four years and then.
[11:57] Just couldn't reconcile with it.
[11:58] We just couldn't.
[11:59] And so from then before we found Infinity, we would sit on the couch and just discuss how to make extra money.
[12:06] Yeah.
[12:07] You know, we worked full time, two kids growing up, let's get another job, let's do this.
[12:12] Just...
[12:13] My mum used to always say it's not how much you earn, it's what you spend.
[12:16] And I used to be like, oh, are you talking about, woman?
[12:18] Like it is how much you earn.
[12:20] Yeah, like it doesn't make any sense.
[12:21] It makes no sense whatsoever.
[12:23] And then, yeah, one day we were scrolling and Graham came up.
[12:29] Found infinity.
[12:30] And, yes.
[12:31] He's hard to ignore.
[12:32] He is very hard to ignore and, yeah, for the better because it's been the best thing we've ever done.
[12:38] Yeah, so talk me through that process.
[12:39] Who found Infinity First?
[12:41] Yep.
[12:41] So I found Graham, I think it was about a year before we actually signed up.
[12:46] Yeah.
[12:47] Just Facebook scrolling and I watched the webinar and I watched it in the bedroom and he was in the lounge room and I was listening to him and he wasn't as outgoing as what he is now, but he was still, you know, quite loose.
[13:01] And so I was watching it and...
[13:03] So was this about 2024?
[13:03] Yeah.
[13:05] Yeah, probably.
[13:06] Maybe, yeah, 2024.
[13:07] And I remember listening to it going, oh, Andy's never going to go for this guy.
[13:11] He's going to think he's a vlog.
[13:12] No, no.
[13:13] So I did speak to him about it and at the end when he spoke about the cost...
[13:18] We just went, no, it's too much because money was such an issue anyway.
[13:21] It was, you know, it's a decent amount of money, but like any good service, you have to pay for it, right?
[13:26] So we just put that to the wayside.
[13:27] And then, yeah, about a year later, again, we had a bit of a social media hiatus.
[13:31] We didn't go on there and then go back on there.
[13:35] Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling.
[13:36] And there he is again.
[13:37] Yeah, algorithms, you're very good at that.
[13:42] And so I listened to the webinar and I was watching it and Andy was sitting on the opposite side of the lounge room and, oh, Brian was out there.
[13:50] He was dropping F-bombs everywhere.
[13:51] So you're watching the webinar again?
[13:53] Yes.
[13:53] Yeah.
[13:54] And I'm thinking, oh, God, like I really liked what he had to say.
[13:58] It made sense.
[13:59] I'm not an academic person.
[14:00] I don't understand, you know, massive words and numbers.
[14:04] I'm quite a simple girl.
[14:06] But I understood this.
[14:08] It really made sense.
[14:08] And I never really understood money, obviously.
[14:10] You know, we didn't do well with it, but it made sense.
[14:14] And so I'm thinking, oh, please, please, please, just tone it down.
[14:16] I need Andy to like you.
[14:18] And Andy was sitting there and he was doing something else.
[14:20] I remember him just like, are you listening?
[14:22] Are you not?
[14:23] And then he looked up and he goes, I like this guy.
[14:26] I just went, gotcha, done.
[14:28] Yes.
[14:29] Got ya.
[14:30] So then we signed up for the masterclass.
[14:33] Yep.
[14:34] And Andy probably told this story.
[14:36] Yeah, that was pretty early on in the masterclass.
[14:40] I can't remember the exact order of things, but it was the rapid repay to me just instantly made sense.
[14:48] And I was like, oh.
[14:49] And that's not necessarily a difficult concept, but I kind of just got it, right?
[14:54] Yeah.
[14:54] It clicked in my head.
[14:55] Well, it's never been explained to you before, ever.
[14:58] No.
[14:58] Right?
[14:58] So even though, yes, now that we know it, we're like it's so simple, but the frustrating thing is that nobody else is telling you about it.
[15:05] Correct.
[15:05] Nobody else is mapping it out.
[15:06] Correct.
[15:06] Yeah.
[15:07] And it's almost sort of like –
[15:09] How did we not figure this out for ourselves?
[15:11] But who cares?
[15:12] We now know it.
[15:13] So that was a moment where I thought, oh, there's something in this.
[15:16] And I remember that at some point I was like, I'm sold.
[15:20] We're doing – we need to do this.
[15:22] Yeah.
[15:22] And it might be the self-managed super fund thing was – and when Graham explained the leverage, that absolutely solidified it for me.
[15:33] Yeah.
[15:33] I was – and I'm aware of everything that's happening with the federal government, but the
[15:38] The leverage on the self-managed super fund for me was huge.
[15:41] Yeah.
[15:42] I was like this could be – this could totally change the course of our – the rest of our lives financially because –
[15:49] it works.
[15:50] Because you guys have very secure jobs, very solid jobs with government.
[15:54] You've got good super as well.
[15:56] Why did the self-managed super fund side of things be such a lightbulb moment for you, you know, because you would have had good super at retirement.
[16:04] Why did you want to see beyond that?
[16:06] It was the leverage factor.
[16:07] So when he explained, you know, if you made 10% on your super balance, yeah,
[16:14] then you'll get X amount.
[16:15] But then if you use that to buy a property worth more than that and you get even at 5% to 10% growth.
[16:23] It's still better than 10% on invested funds.
[16:24] It's still better than 10% on an amount.
[16:26] That's right.
[16:29] So that was it.
[16:30] That was the moment that I was like, we're doing this.
[16:34] Yeah.
[16:34] Yeah.
[16:35] It was actually quite exciting.
[16:38] It was very exciting to sign up when you thought, okay, we've got a really clear plan.
[16:43] We're going to have a clear plan.
[16:44] Yeah.
[16:45] And at that moment, that weight that hung around us for that bad decision to sell our house was,
[16:52] lifted very quickly very quickly yeah and we just felt like we could get on with it it's like oh that's done now yeah felt like you had hope again yeah and there was a podcast i can't remember which one it was that they spoke about and when he said sell that dog you know like people do it like yeah it just really well i we were both able to just cut it loose yeah it's a decision we made it doesn't matter we're now on the right trajectory and
[17:16] And it seems so heavy because people go through tragedy, you know, loved ones die.
[17:23] People go through it a lot worse but that really sat on our chest.
[17:28] Yeah.
[17:28] We just could not.
[17:29] But that's your heart, right?
[17:30] Yeah.
[17:30] Like you don't want to minimise what's hard for you because you're right, everybody's got their thing but everybody's got their heart and it's just as important as somebody else's heart.
[17:39] Yeah.
[17:40] I just felt we couldn't move forward and like many people out there, Andy and I have...
[17:45] Worked long hours, difficult scenarios.
[17:48] You're also on like opposite shifts, yeah.
[17:50] Opposite shifts.
[17:50] So from, yeah, from the day we met, before we even had children, opposite shifts.
[17:56] Yeah.
[17:56] Three days off every five weeks.
[17:58] When we had kids, it was high fives in the car park, you take this kid, I go to work, dinner's on the stove.
[18:05] Yeah, pass each other in the night.
[18:06] We pass a lot of notes.
[18:07] Well, Ange passed me a lot of notes.
[18:09] And we would just – we were both almost like single parents.
[18:13] Yeah, together.
[18:14] Because – and then one of us was always on nights.
[18:16] So, you know, a third of the time one of us was on night shift.
[18:20] Yeah.
[18:20] So we've got – Yeah, but we didn't want to part.
[18:22] And that's when infinity – it all just kind of came together.
[18:26] We don't want that for our children.
[18:28] If you want to choose to be in the police or any other job where you live like that, do it because of choice.
[18:34] Yeah.
[18:34] And Graeme and you guys speak so heavily about that word.
[18:37] Do it because you want to, not because you have to.
[18:40] We want to give our children not just his money, you know, do whatever you want, but we want to give them just the choice to do
[18:48] Live the way you want to live without that stress of finance and whether that's us giving them money at the end when we're no longer here or just the tools or infinity.
[18:57] And on that point, the boys are old enough now being, you know, 17, 15 age that they have an understanding.
[19:06] Yeah.
[19:07] Far greater at that age just through asking me questions.
[19:10] I don't know about mum, but just through asking me questions about, okay, so what are you actually doing?
[19:15] And just explaining it.
[19:16] So you're bringing them into it.
[19:18] Their financial literacy was better now as a teenager than what we were at 40.
[19:23] Isn't that nuts?
[19:24] It is.
[19:24] Just through exposure to seeing what we're doing.
[19:27] We didn't hide anything from them as to what we were doing with Infinity.
[19:30] We told them everything we were doing.
[19:32] And they were asking.
[19:33] And so their literacy is already, financial literacy, already better than what ours was 18 months ago.
[19:38] Which is what I love about what we do is that ripple effect.
[19:41] Like obviously we're helping you guys love that part of it, but then you've got the kids you can hand it down to as well and they're going to have a leg up because I know when I was at school, I didn't get any of this.
[19:52] Even when I did, I did an economics class and I was very passionate about love that and I still was not set up in the way that Infinity has been able to do for me at all.
[20:02] So now we get to create different generations.
[20:04] Yep.
[20:05] Absolutely.
[20:05] And they've already started showing signs of it.
[20:07] They really have.
[20:08] Our eldest lad, Archie, he's pretty good with his money.
[20:11] He doesn't want to part with it.
[20:13] He doesn't want to part with it.
[20:16] He'll probably live at home for a very long time then.
[20:18] That's all right.
[20:19] We're living in a nice big house.
[20:19] Oscar's a little bit different.
[20:21] Money burns a hole in his pocket.
[20:22] Yeah.
[20:24] He likes spending, but we'll rein that in.
[20:26] He's still young.
[20:28] They've got it, yeah.
[20:29] So that's a really nice thing as a parent.
[20:31] We can teach them all things about life, especially as a dad to teenage boys.
[20:35] Yeah.
[20:37] That financial literacy is going to be a very big.
[20:40] So valuable.
[20:41] Valuable gift that we can pass on to them.
[20:44] I think that's what Infinity does so well.
[20:46] It's not a boring subject even for the kids.
[20:48] You've got your community events, which we brought them to, and they've met people and they've watched the podcast.
[20:53] So you've really come in from all angles and targeting every generation.
[20:58] The kids actually look at Infinity and go, wow, this is pretty cool.
[21:02] We understand why you're a part of it rather than, oh, mum, this is boring.
[21:06] Oh, they're saying no or they're on a budget.
[21:08] Yeah, yeah.
[21:08] But you know what?
[21:09] We don't say no.
[21:10] That's...
[21:10] I don't know.
[21:11] You're not missing out.
[21:12] They're not missing out.
[21:12] They're not missing out.
[21:13] We don't, yeah, we don't have to say no because they don't ask for a lot but what they do ask for, you know, we budget for and.
[21:19] And just make it work.
[21:20] Make it work, yeah.
[21:21] Yeah.
[21:21] It's great.
[21:22] So we've got a few light bulb moments that we had during the master class.
[21:25] You really like the rapid repay, the leverage with your super.
[21:29] How long did it take from doing the webinar to then doing the master class?
[21:33] Was there much time in between or did we just jump straight in?
[21:35] No, I think.
[21:36] No, the first one we could.
[21:37] Yeah.
[21:38] I think it was October, like a matter of weeks.
[21:40] I think there was a session straight away.
[21:42] So, yeah, we've done like everything in our life.
[21:44] We make a decision where you go with it.
[21:47] This one was a good one.
[21:48] And what was your home loan balance when you came into the master class?
[21:52] 5-10.
[21:53] 5-10.
[21:53] And do you remember what your out-of-debt result was when you crunched your own numbers on the Saturday?
[21:58] Five years, four months.
[21:59] Five years and four months.
[22:00] Yeah.
[22:00] Did you believe it at first?
[22:02] No.
[22:03] That's a wild nod.
[22:03] I thought it was ambitious.
[22:05] Yeah.
[22:06] But then also the way that it had been explained, I'm like, but I believe it.
[22:10] Yeah.
[22:10] Like it's ambitious, but that's doable.
[22:12] Yeah.
[22:12] And you kind of get determined since it's determination to go, okay, well, we're going to see if we can beat that.
[22:16] You get competitive with yourself.
[22:17] Yeah.
[22:18] Yeah.
[22:18] Yeah.
[22:19] So we've signed up to work with Infinity.
[22:21] That was about October 2025.
[22:22] Yeah.
[22:22] Correct.
[22:24] Talk me through what your first 90 days looked like.
[22:28] Well, thanks to Louis, it was a whirlwind.
[22:32] You're totally fine getting him in trouble on my podcast.
[22:36] We got invited to the November REM.
[22:39] Yep.
[22:40] Yes.
[22:42] And we went in, and I've watched many podcasts before, we went in going,
[22:47] paid the money.
[22:48] We're going to...
[22:49] These guys know what they're doing.
[22:51] We clearly don't.
[22:53] We are not going to go against anything they say.
[22:56] So you felt very confident straight away.
[22:58] Absolutely.
[22:58] Okay.
[22:59] And if I can just name drop, I watched Bill and Sarah's podcast.
[23:03] Oh, yeah.
[23:03] And I know everyone says they've got that one podcast that they listen to.
[23:06] Yeah.
[23:07] That woman, Sarah, if you're watching, hi.
[23:10] She was so passionate.
[23:13] Yeah.
[23:13] She...
[23:14] I was...
[23:15] I wasn't crying but I was, she really got it for me.
[23:18] She, the passion she had for Bill and her family and what Infinity did, after watching that podcast, I just went, this is the real deal.
[23:25] And I must admit up to that point I went, are they actors?
[23:29] Is this real?
[23:30] She really.
[23:31] God, we've got a lot of actors now.
[23:32] Yeah, you've got a lot.
[23:34] You've got a lot.
[23:36] She sold it for me.
[23:37] So when I watched her podcast, I said to Andy, if we go do this, we have to go all the way.
[23:42] We cannot be abrasive.
[23:46] say no to anything we have to go in.
[23:47] So, yeah, November REM, sorry to digress, and we went to all the seminars and listened to, you know, talked to people and listened to everyone, met Jeremy and Megan, and then we met with Luke, our wealth strategist, and we were...
[23:59] I remember saying to Ange on that point...
[24:02] By that stage I was so, I believed it and I understood the process.
[24:06] I said, whatever he comes at us with, we're saying yes.
[24:09] We're just doing it.
[24:10] Yeah.
[24:11] I'm not going away and thinking about it.
[24:13] Whatever he comes at us with as options, we're going to go with because we absolutely trust this process.
[24:19] So that was an exciting – I actually don't – I'm a pretty level-headed bloke, but after that wealth strategy meeting I actually needed a moment just to calm myself because I was like – it was a real moment for me to go, okay, this is actual tangible – a tangible plan that's going to change.
[24:38] And so Ange wanted to party at –
[24:40] Ram and I'm like, I'm just going to go back to the room for a minute.
[24:43] I just need to decompress.
[24:44] Yeah, I just need to decompress.
[24:45] I'll see in a bit.
[24:47] And, yeah, that was a very, that was a moment I'm actually never going to forget when we were sitting in there and he was showing us what our opportunities were, I thought.
[24:55] Yeah.
[24:55] It takes a lot to knock him down.
[24:58] Yeah.
[24:58] But that was a real fork in the road moment for us.
[25:00] And I don't remember a lot.
[25:01] I've got such the world's worst memory, but I will remember that for the rest of my life.
[25:05] Yeah, sorry.
[25:05] So what do you mean by it was a fork in the road for you?
[25:08] Well, we were just heading down one bad road, just one bad decision after another after another.
[25:15] And when we sat down with Luke and he told us what we could do
[25:19] And we did.
[25:20] We signed on the total line.
[25:23] We just knew we were going to be fine from that.
[25:25] And we were never not going to be okay because, like you said, we had fantastic super.
[25:29] You know, even if we lived paycheck to paycheck, so to speak, but we always knew we had more money coming.
[25:34] It was never like, are we going to feed the kids?
[25:36] And we went on a holiday every year with the boys.
[25:38] Yeah.
[25:38] So we did all those things.
[25:40] Certainly weren't hard done by, but you just felt like you never got ahead.
[25:42] Like every story that comes to us, you never felt like you got ahead.
[25:46] But...
[25:47] This was just a real moment in time where I went, yeah, this is it.
[25:53] This decision is right for us.
[25:54] It's easy.
[25:57] We can stick to it.
[25:58] We're not being deprived of fun and life and money.
[26:01] This is a real strategy, something that we've never had before, that we can stick to and pass on to the kids.
[26:08] Do you remember how many properties you walked away with from that, Rem?
[26:11] Oh, yeah.
[26:12] Four.
[26:13] Did you believe that that would have been possible?
[26:16] No.
[26:16] We already had an investment.
[26:17] Because you had one in Queensland already.
[26:19] Yeah, we did have one.
[26:20] So you kind of dipped your toe into investing before.
[26:23] Well, on that point, we kind of understood a vague concept of what we should do, buy a property, hopefully it grows, hold on to it for a while, sell it, pay your CGT and then –
[26:39] do whatever, but we didn't really know where.
[26:42] Yeah.
[26:43] We didn't know how long we were going to hold onto it for.
[26:48] So we never – it was more the strategy that we lacked.
[26:50] Yeah.
[26:51] We understood the concept of investing.
[26:52] We tried to do the right things but we didn't have the strategy on what, where or for how long or those aspects.
[27:01] But we went in because, again, normal people have one principal place and one investment property and that's a lot of our problems.
[27:07] And they just think, that's it, I've succeeded.
[27:10] I'm tapped out as well.
[27:11] And a lot of people do tap themselves out because they don't have the strategy and the structure.
[27:15] Yeah.
[27:15] Yeah.
[27:16] But when we walked out with two in our super and two in personal plus the one we already had and our principal's funders.
[27:21] Because we haven't recommended selling that because that's in Queensland and we're happy with that at the moment.
[27:26] Yes.
[27:26] In fact, we said to Luke, can we just get rid of it because we think we made a bad investment decision for growth.
[27:32] And he said, no, no, no, just calm down.
[27:34] Yeah.
[27:34] So like when you know what we're doing, you don't really know what you're doing.
[27:37] And he did that politely.
[27:38] I was going to say he's quite a polite person.
[27:41] He was very polite, but he's just like, just relax.
[27:43] Yeah.
[27:44] Because we thought, oh, maybe if we sold that we could buy something else that was better, had better prospects.
[27:50] But yeah, he was really good about that.
[27:53] But it comes down, again, to strategy, doing it strategically.
[27:56] Yeah.
[27:57] And we don't do the – like, you do amateur research on where you should buy and then you're going in against other people to try and secure something.
[28:06] So we didn't – yeah, we didn't execute that plan very well.
[28:09] Yeah.
[28:11] But then you've walked away with four new ones.
[28:13] Yeah, and then we decided to sell our own house.
[28:16] Yeah, so let's talk through that decision because you'd gone through years of just buying and selling and increasing the home loan and exit and entry costs and then you've come to us to get this plan and you've gone, oh, we'll sell the house and build the dream home.
[28:30] Yeah, that was a moment that I was the one that was the catalyst for this and it was such a typical Ange and Andy thing where the house that we'd purchased in 2020 had done really well recently
[28:43] from a capital growth through COVID.
[28:44] Yep.
[28:45] It wasn't our dream home.
[28:46] It was an old home that had issues with it.
[28:49] And I remember doing the laundry because Andrew's trained me incredibly well over 20 years.
[28:57] So I was doing the laundry and we didn't even have anywhere to put her clothes.
[29:02] Like we had these small walkers.
[29:05] A walking wardrobe.
[29:05] Small cupboard.
[29:06] Oh, yeah, yeah.
[29:07] I just remember thinking, this is ridiculous.
[29:08] A woman needs a good walk-in wardrobe.
[29:11] I had one drawer, he had five.
[29:13] Yeah, and a small little wardrobe each.
[29:14] So, thanks.
[29:16] And that's really good of you.
[29:18] Throw me under the bus.
[29:20] So they, anyway, that was the moment I said, we need to get rid of this.
[29:24] Like, I'm done with this.
[29:26] Like, I'm done with this house.
[29:27] I want to sell it.
[29:29] And up in the Adelaide Hills where we've...
[29:32] now moved to and are renting and about to build.
[29:35] Yep.
[29:35] I just wanted to get out of Adelaide and have our sort of area away from the city because our boys were going to school in the city.
[29:43] We both worked in the city.
[29:45] Yeah.
[29:45] So we're fighting traffic every day to get to and from work.
[29:48] I just had enough of it.
[29:49] But it was actually the lack of wardrobe space.
[29:52] Folding my needs.
[29:52] I was like, you know what?
[29:54] And I've done a little bit of my own research with where we're building and thought I actually think there's merit to this.
[30:00] Yeah.
[30:01] And because of infinity I thought.
[30:03] It's possible.
[30:04] We might be able to actually sell this house and buy, lend, and build.
[30:09] Yep, be mortgage-free.
[30:12] So that was the first thing, and I thought, well, before we go to a real estate agent, I had a number in my head that I thought would be what it would take to achieve that, and then we got more than what we expected.
[30:26] So we haven't got quite the right numbers, the confirmed numbers in for the build, but –
[30:32] So still a work in progress?
[30:34] Yeah.
[30:34] We think we're going to – there'll be nothing unless we go super extravagant on our selections or something we're going to own it outright.
[30:42] Would you have thought before Infinity you'd be able to do it all at the same time?
[30:46] No.
[30:46] The investing, the selling of the home, building?
[30:49] We would never have sold it, I don't think, because we were so worried about making another bad decision.
[30:55] We would have had paralysis by analysis.
[30:57] Yeah.
[30:57] So, oh, what if we sell that one?
[30:59] And it's not right.
[31:00] And then we're buying in the same market.
[31:03] We're paying stamp duty again.
[31:05] We don't even want to know how much stamp duty we paid and real estate agents are over.
[31:08] Yeah.
[31:09] Our 20 years.
[31:10] Won't add salt to that wound.
[31:11] Yeah, let's just avoid that.
[31:13] So we probably wouldn't have had the confidence to do it before, but because we'd looked at everything and we had this plan, we thought, no, no, we can actually do this.
[31:21] And this rapid repay can be really rapid.
[31:23] Well, because you're going to do that anyway.
[31:25] Despite not having the mortgage at the moment, you still can do an element of it to prepare yourself for when we finally do settle on that land and the build cost.
[31:34] And we are.
[31:35] Correct.
[31:35] Exactly.
[31:36] So we spoke to our RM, Connor, about that and it's a bit clunky at the moment with how we've set it up.
[31:43] It's not in the true form because we're waiting to settle.
[31:46] Yeah.
[31:47] But we're just doing our sweep.
[31:48] Yep.
[31:49] We're still with our FFF.
[31:51] We haven't gone.
[31:51] Still sticking to it.
[31:52] Still sticking to everything.
[31:53] Just going, well, the more we sweep, the more we're guaranteed to not have a debt on that property by the time it's finished.
[32:00] We actually settle and it's built.
[32:02] Yeah.
[32:02] Yeah.
[32:03] Absolutely crazy.
[32:04] Now, can you promise me this is going to be the last home?
[32:06] No.
[32:07] No, I don't think so.
[32:11] We kind of have shifted in the last – since probably in the last few couple of months, three months, we've got a new kind of goal that we want to achieve.
[32:21] And it's not an extravagant goal, but we want to have our house in Adelaide and Ange's family, and she's from Adelaide,
[32:29] And we've lived there for over two decades.
[32:32] But we also want to have a property in Queensland where I'm from.
[32:35] Yep.
[32:36] Not as a holiday home or anything.
[32:38] Just we want to have two houses that we can go between.
[32:40] Do you want to go in between?
[32:41] Okay, I can settle on that.
[32:42] Yeah, yeah.
[32:43] As long as we're not doing it all the time in Adelaide.
[32:45] No, no, no, no.
[32:46] We just want to, like, Adelaide winters are notoriously crap.
[32:49] Yeah.
[32:50] And when it gets cold and wet and rainy, we want to come up to here.
[32:54] That makes sense.
[32:54] We can do that.
[32:55] So the principal place in Mount Barker, Adelaide Hills, that's the last one there.
[32:59] We're not selling that.
[32:59] No, we're done.
[33:00] So we just want another house here.
[33:02] Not quite sure how that will work but just want to follow the sun.
[33:05] But, you know, that's in retirement years.
[33:07] Yeah.
[33:07] Yeah, that's not tomorrow.
[33:08] That's something we can work towards.
[33:09] Yeah, that's not tomorrow.
[33:09] But that's kind of if we had two homes that we owned outright that we could go between the two.
[33:14] Yeah.
[33:16] Oh, that's okay.
[33:16] That absolutely can be on the vision board.
[33:18] I'm fine with that.
[33:19] Yeah, yeah.
[33:20] And that's a relatively new plan.
[33:22] I wanted to live in Italy for a while in retirement.
[33:24] We discussed that for a while.
[33:26] We can't wash that.
[33:27] Yeah, we can't wash that.
[33:29] We'll go between the two states.
[33:30] It would be great.
[33:31] Yeah.
[33:31] Yeah.
[33:32] Awesome.
[33:33] And let's talk through the SMSF because you've been very fortunate enough to have gone through the process early enough before these changes that the government has made to be able to secure too.
[33:43] How do you feel about what this government has done in the last couple of months?
[33:48] Yeah.
[33:50] I just thought it was atrocious.
[33:51] Yeah.
[33:54] The leverage factor, and, you know, we've spent two decades working
[33:59] for our community, and yes, they place and we've got good super, but we're the ones that are going to be self-funded in retirement, right?
[34:06] So we're not going to need a cent from the government, and with the leverage we're going to be in a position where we can.
[34:14] The fact that they have removed this is...
[34:20] Such a bad strategy, in my opinion.
[34:21] Yeah.
[34:22] Not only do you affect the individuals with their investments and being self-reliant in retirement.
[34:30] Yep.
[34:31] Which we should be encouraging.
[34:32] Correct.
[34:33] Yeah.
[34:34] With an ageing population, the more people that aren't dipping in, the better, but also...
[34:40] the industry, the construction industry, if there's less built, then you're putting more pressure on prices.
[34:46] Not that I'm an expert on this.
[34:47] And supply.
[34:49] And supply.
[34:49] Which we're already so far behind on.
[34:50] All those sorts of things.
[34:51] I thought it was atrocious and probably could have been – I understand if you – super funds are buying existing properties in the price range that first home buyers would be wanting.
[35:05] Yeah.
[35:05] I understand that argument.
[35:08] I don't know how many first home buyers are purchasing the properties that we purchased through our self-managed super fund.
[35:16] It'd be next to no one.
[35:17] Yeah.
[35:18] It probably is no one.
[35:20] So it's a horrendous policy that needs to change.
[35:22] Well, you know, one of the members of parliament recently said, oh, we've only had 4,000 SMSFs borrow in the last year.
[35:31] And those numbers are so wrong to start with.
[35:34] But even on the flip side, like let's say they're right and it's 4,000.
[35:38] Is that still not a good thing that we're getting 4,000 new homes into the market when we're already so far behind on supply?
[35:45] Yeah.
[35:46] It just baffles me what they've done.
[35:48] But, you know, I know it's definitely a time at the moment where everybody's very, very scared.
[35:53] They don't want to do anything.
[35:54] They're sitting and watching.
[35:55] What would be advice you'd give to people that would, you know, be looking at the budget and looking at these changes going, we're just not going to do anything?
[36:01] That's a really good question.
[36:02] In regards to super or in regards – In general, because even with negative gearing having changed and capital gains tax, you know, a lot of people just sit and going, I just won't do anything now.
[36:12] I'm too scared.
[36:13] What advice would you give to them?
[36:14] Sign up to infinity.
[36:17] Let them do the heavy lifting.
[36:18] I know that sounds – but that's exactly – like go to people that actually know what they're talking about.
[36:22] So –
[36:24] With Infinity, you have people that are doing the research that know.
[36:27] Graham knows the markets.
[36:31] He knows the finance industry.
[36:33] Yeah.
[36:34] So go to people that actually know.
[36:35] Yeah.
[36:36] Don't have a guess yourself.
[36:37] And everything that you read and from what I read in the media is all sensationalised or – Oh, you're only going to be told one part of the story.
[36:45] Oh, you're not going to be told the whole part.
[36:46] Yeah.
[36:46] So don't educate yourself through the media is the first part.
[36:49] Yeah.
[36:49] I read an article from – That's good advice.
[36:51] From –
[36:53] a property investment source recently that was basically like, now's the time to buy.
[36:57] Yeah.
[36:57] So buy now.
[36:59] So that's one person's opinion.
[37:02] Everyone's got one.
[37:03] Yeah.
[37:03] I'd go –
[37:06] go to the people that actually know what they're talking about.
[37:08] So you think it's still important to consider investing options, wealth creation options, debt reduction options, despite all the noise that's going on right now?
[37:16] Definitely.
[37:16] Without a doubt.
[37:17] And the debt reduction, who would say no to that?
[37:19] Yeah.
[37:19] At absolute minimum, right?
[37:21] Yeah.
[37:21] But even the investment strategy, the other point is you're not buying something and flipping it straight away.
[37:26] So there's lots of days in the market that it's going to play out.
[37:30] Yeah.
[37:30] And who knows what the policy is going to be in three years' time, five years' time.
[37:34] Yeah.
[37:36] you know.
[37:37] See, that's good.
[37:38] You've hit the nail on the head of a very important message there where it's like we've been through so many cycles.
[37:44] You don't know what's going to happen next year.
[37:46] You don't know what's going to happen the year after that.
[37:48] And all of this could be reversed again.
[37:50] Correct.
[37:50] You know, there could be hopefully under government.
[37:53] Yeah.
[37:54] But the good thing we've found with Infinity is that every time there has been that little bit of a bump in the road, you guys have sent out an email saying, right, guys, we're going to do a Zoom meeting.
[38:03] We're going to explain it all to you.
[38:05] We're going to, you know, iron it all out, let you know what's going on.
[38:09] Because like me, this isn't my realm.
[38:12] I don't really, I listen to the news and I go, I don't understand what they're saying.
[38:15] I understand every individual word, but when they speak in the way they do, I just don't understand it.
[38:20] So that's Andy's field.
[38:21] But you guys come at us and...
[38:24] put it in layman's terms, simplify it for us, and you do walk away going, oh, okay, I get it.
[38:28] It makes sense now.
[38:29] They've told me I shouldn't worry and I'm not going to worry.
[38:31] When Graham and you start worrying, that's when we'll worry.
[38:34] Yeah, absolutely.
[38:36] And I sat in on the super –
[38:39] Information meeting.
[38:40] Yep, that we did, yeah.
[38:42] I walked away.
[38:43] And I know that was sort of targeted with the people that were sort of maybe sitting on the fence and things like that, but I still got a lot out of that.
[38:47] Yeah.
[38:49] And the message with all these things that happen is just be calm.
[38:54] Yeah.
[38:55] Stick to your strategy.
[38:57] Keep paying down.
[38:58] Keep doing your sweep.
[38:59] Everything's going to be fine.
[39:00] We're always going to try to find the opportunity for you.
[39:03] Yeah.
[39:03] Correct.
[39:04] And talk to me about your boys because you're saying you've brought them into the fold, you've talked to them about what you guys are doing and we were just talking about how important that is and they're going to have a bit of a leg up.
[39:16] How are they finding the FFF?
[39:18] How has their mindset changed around all this type of stuff?
[39:21] Great.
[39:21] Look, we're very fortunate.
[39:22] They're not, they've never asked for a lot, you know, it takes a lot for me to say, hey, let's go get some clothes.
[39:28] They don't ask for things and big brand things.
[39:32] But what, one thing we have done, I mean, the youngest one just got a job and the oldest one has a job as well, but we give them $20 a week out of our FFF and say to them,
[39:43] Look, no more, you know, mum and dad go to the petrol station and you want a sausage roll and a nice coffee, so we tack that on.
[39:48] If you want that, you use... You budget for it.
[39:51] Yeah, and $20 for teenagers.
[39:53] For those types of incidentals, it's a lot of money.
[39:56] If you don't want the lunch that I'm packing for you that day, you want a tuck shop, you pay for it.
[40:00] So...
[40:02] That's their little part to play in our FFF and they're doing really well to the point where they no longer buy that sausage roll and the ice coffee because they don't want to save the money.
[40:13] But, yeah, they've taken to it really well.
[40:15] They understand the big picture.
[40:17] I'm very fortunate they take after him.
[40:19] They're very, very intelligent boys for their age.
[40:21] I was never that smart.
[40:23] Still not.
[40:24] But they understand it and they're happy to just, you know, go with the flow and ride this crazy life that is ours and, yeah, look forward to what's going on.
[40:34] Just root mum and dad on.
[40:35] Yeah.
[40:35] Yeah.
[40:36] Yeah, they –
[40:38] They'll get it.
[40:39] They'll get it.
[40:39] And once they get it, they're still a bit younger talking about, okay, what's your strategy going to be?
[40:44] Yeah.
[40:44] But even just through exposure, they're seeing the concept, they understand the spin aspect and the save aspect.
[40:50] So they'll be fine.
[40:52] Yeah.
[40:53] And I even said to the boys, you know, for your 18th birthday or your 21st probably more so.
[40:57] You know, I'll give to you.
[40:58] We'll do the masterclass if you guys are still around doing that type of thing or ready to do something.
[41:03] Yeah, and we'll pay for that as your 21st present.
[41:05] That's an awesome present.
[41:07] Yeah, onward to backwards for you.
[41:08] And, you know, they don't sit there and go, oh, really?
[41:10] Well, we want this.
[41:11] They're like, yeah, that sounds really cool.
[41:12] They're really open to it.
[41:13] Definitely.
[41:14] Yeah, that's awesome.
[41:15] And before Infinity, you had, like you said, you kind of dipped your toe into investing a little bit.
[41:20] There was a lot of that mindset around wanting to get ahead, but we just weren't.
[41:24] We felt like we're on the hamster wheel.
[41:25] You were also doing barefoot investing with your banking, as Jay calls wrong foot investing.
[41:31] Why do you think the simplified structure we have is so much better than the barefoot investing structure?
[41:37] It worked for us at the start and I've heard you say that.
[41:39] It really did.
[41:41] It's always good to start somewhere because it gets you talking about money together, gets you thinking about money and doing something.
[41:47] And it got us thinking about where our money was going.
[41:50] So we always had money for holidays.
[41:51] We always had money for food and savings but just never felt like you got ahead.
[41:58] That's the difference with infinity.
[41:59] We still have these little pockets of money here and there and things
[42:03] But we are getting ahead and even in the short time we've been with Infinity, we're already so much further along than we were 22 years together doing our own thing.
[42:12] That's the difference.
[42:13] Yeah.
[42:14] Yeah, before we'd sold our house with the rapid repay method, so from October to April or whatever it was, we paid something like $60,000 or $70,000 off.
[42:27] Yeah.
[42:27] Our principal.
[42:27] Now, we'd done more than that through the rapid repay method
[42:32] Than what we would have done in years.
[42:33] Yeah.
[42:34] Yeah.
[42:35] And the barefoot investor was good to save for a holiday, but we never smashed our mortgage.
[42:44] Because he doesn't talk about mortgages.
[42:46] Yeah, we never smashed our mortgage.
[42:47] And we're paying the interest calculated daily, as I've heard before.
[42:51] everyone say.
[42:52] Yeah.
[42:52] It's calculated daily and we're paying this interest year in, year out, and every time we set the 30-year mark.
[42:57] So, like, what we'd achieved before we'd sold our house, I was like, I couldn't believe it.
[43:02] Yeah.
[43:02] Like night and day.
[43:04] Yeah.
[43:04] Unbelievable.
[43:05] Unbelievable.
[43:06] Yeah.
[43:06] And what does the future look like now for you both?
[43:09] Like this room.
[43:10] I know we know that.
[43:11] We've got the Queensland property in mind.
[43:14] What else are we hoping to achieve?
[43:15] Where do we think we're headed now?
[43:17] Yeah.
[43:18] Look, we have discussed that.
[43:19] I mean, this might change.
[43:21] We're not that couple that want to keep going, keep going, keep going, more, more, more.
[43:26] If you told us this is what it was going to be for investment properties and have our house paid off and perhaps another home here, that would be more than enough for us.
[43:34] But you'd be happy.
[43:35] We'd be happy.
[43:36] Yeah.
[43:37] I actually put something on the...
[43:39] a community Facebook page a little while ago saying that I was financially free and I hadn't paid my mortgage off then, but the shackles.
[43:47] Wow, you already had felt like that was an actual mantra that you could believe.
[43:51] Yeah, and the response I got from the community from that was I still had a mortgage.
[43:56] I had four other mortgages down the track.
[43:58] I still had an investment property.
[44:00] Sorry, we had an investment property and all those debts still were there, all the bills, all the school fees.
[44:06] But just that pressure of no longer thinking about, oh, I've got a bill.
[44:10] How am I going to pay that?
[44:11] Well, because you said you guys don't even know when payday is anymore.
[44:14] Don't even know when payday is.
[44:15] Yeah, I love that.
[44:15] And we were people who were counting down the seconds to payday.
[44:19] How much do we get this week?
[44:20] You know, what can we buy?
[44:22] What can we do?
[44:23] Where can we go?
[44:23] Like we thought about money all the time.
[44:27] Yeah.
[44:28] And even when we weren't thinking about money, it was in the back of your head.
[44:31] Yeah.
[44:32] Now we don't even think about it.
[44:34] And that is financial freedom.
[44:36] Yeah.
[44:37] Not being mortgage free.
[44:38] You can have financial freedom and still have a mortgage.
[44:40] Yeah.
[44:40] That's huge.
[44:41] I'd never ever.
[44:41] No, I love that.
[44:42] That's, yeah.
[44:43] It's cool to feel that way when you know there's still debt.
[44:46] Yeah.
[44:47] It's still there and there's still things we've got to work towards, but you just feel that weight off the shoulders.
[44:52] And I was crying when I wrote that Facebook post because it was, that's real.
[44:55] Yeah.
[44:56] You can definitely have financial freedom and still have mortgages.
[44:59] Yeah.
[45:00] Yeah.
[45:00] That's massive.
[45:01] And now with the new build as well, let's say we, you know, once we finalize our build contract and our price and we are debt free from, you know, selling the old home and then also doing our budgeting and our sweeps.
[45:13] you will start the waterfall strategy.
[45:15] You're going to pay.
[45:15] Yeah, that's exactly right.
[45:17] Investment property.
[45:17] And we were, I was actually wondering about that.
[45:19] It's a little bit down the path before.
[45:21] But I thought, okay, well then let's just smash.
[45:23] But that's your next step.
[45:24] Yeah, let's just smash the next one.
[45:25] We're already at that waterfall strategy.
[45:27] And I remember when I did the masterclass, I'm like, oh, that's going to be miles away.
[45:30] Yeah.
[45:31] So I paid attention, but not really.
[45:33] I'll have to go back and read this.
[45:34] You're like, yeah, cool concept.
[45:35] Yeah.
[45:35] We're not there.
[45:36] We're not there.
[45:37] So I'm going to have to go back and look at that and go, how does that actually work again?
[45:40] So I understand the basics of it, but yeah, and then which one do we do and all those sort of questions.
[45:45] Yeah.
[45:46] So...
[45:47] Yeah, that's exciting.
[45:48] That is very exciting.
[45:49] We have made – Yeah.
[45:50] Yeah, I know we keep going on about it, but, like, the fact that we're talking about that now, that's where we're at.
[45:55] Not even a year into your journey with infinity.
[45:57] That was in total last year.
[45:58] Yeah.
[45:58] You're not even a year in yet.
[46:00] Crazy.
[46:00] No, that's very exciting.
[46:01] You're being, like, on a big catapult, you know?
[46:02] Yeah.
[46:04] Yeah.
[46:04] It is.
[46:05] And even just from watching the podcast all those months ago and going, oh, God, that just seems so far away.
[46:10] And we always said, oh, I want to go on a podcast, I want to go on a podcast.
[46:14] But we thought we had to be in infinity for three, four, five years to get there and the fact that you guys have been
[46:23] like I said, catapulted us forward as fast as we have.
[46:28] But it's good to see every point in a journey, every part of a journey and every different side of a journey.
[46:34] And I think that's what you guys are so different to the next person.
[46:37] But like I said at the beginning, we'll definitely be having you back for part two because you're not a year in yet.
[46:42] So I want to know where you're going to be in another year.
[46:44] Yeah.
[46:44] And that's exciting.
[46:46] There's a lot of things to happen in the next year.
[46:50] So, yeah, we're pretty, yeah, we love it.
[46:53] And thinking back to when you found us in 2024 but didn't actually sign up until 2025, how do you feel about that year?
[47:00] I don't want to use words like wasted or, you know, but do you wish you had done it sooner?
[47:06] Yeah, of course.
[47:07] Oh, I've got so many regrets.
[47:08] That's just another one to add to the list.
[47:10] You do, but I think...
[47:12] If this, the last six months had gone a lot slower than what they have, I'd be like, oh, my gosh, what we could have done in that year.
[47:19] But because we've already done so much in nine months.
[47:21] Move so quick, yeah.
[47:22] Yeah, I just go, oh, whatever.
[47:23] It's a good perspective, actually.
[47:25] Yeah, I have to.
[47:25] And that's one thing Infinity has done is I was always such a negative Nelly about money and regrets back then, but now it's like,
[47:33] Oh, whatever.
[47:33] It's fine.
[47:34] It's like you said, you forgot about the home we sold and everything just felt lighter and now you don't even think about it anymore.
[47:40] And, you know, we wasted a year, so to speak, but we've got so many more to look forward to.
[47:43] You can't look back anymore.
[47:45] That's a perfect perspective.
[47:46] I love it.
[47:47] Well, guys, thank you so much for coming in.
[47:49] Is there anything else you want to add before we wrap up?
[47:51] I think we're good.
[47:52] No, not really.
[47:53] We're very...
[47:56] appreciative of what we've been given from Infinity and the advice and the coaching and the relationships were built.
[48:04] So we just feel incredibly fortunate that we've found you guys.
[48:09] Yeah, this is different.
[48:11] Yeah.
[48:11] It's better.
[48:12] Well, we love having you part of the family.
[48:13] Thank you so much for coming in and I look forward to part two.
[48:16] Yes, so do I.
[48:17] Thank you.
