[0:00] We don't have anything to hide.
[0:01] We have more to gain.
[0:03] And it's how we succeed together.
[0:05] And it's a friendship for life.
[0:10] Yeah, definitely.
[0:10] And that's amazing to have someone like you in our corner.
[0:15] to know it was, okay, first we come on board, we're on, we haven't been in seven months.
[0:19] Okay, so that's pretty cool that, you know, we're like, I'm going to meet up and now we stretch it out.
[0:25] Yeah.
[0:25] There's something there, there's trust.
[0:27] Yeah.
[0:27] Money isn't rude of all evil, the fucking lack of it is.
[0:30] Not money, the lack of understanding money.
[0:33] When I put that into emphasis, when I realised that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I have to be in the fucking way.
[0:39] You are now watching the money.
[0:49] Hello, welcome back to the podcast.
[0:52] My name's Connor.
[0:53] I'm a relationship manager here at Infinity.
[0:55] Today I've got the amazing Marion and Jamal in front of me, two of my best clients, favorite clients, awesome people.
[1:01] How are you guys today?
[1:04] Really good.
[1:04] Thank you, Connor.
[1:05] And we're happy to be here sitting with you and actually sitting and not looking at a screen.
[1:10] Do I look better in person or on Zoom?
[1:12] Oh, better in person.
[1:14] Better in person.
[1:14] That's why.
[1:15] I like you.
[1:15] I like you.
[1:16] Screens can make things look different, eh?
[1:18] Exactly.
[1:19] 100%.
[1:21] Awesome guys, again, pleasure to have you here today Today we're just going to get a little bit more about your story, how you've been with Infinity What you were like probably pre-Infinity, how your life and perspective on certain things have changed Which personally I've seen a massive mindset shift with you guys, which is awesome I can't wait for you guys to tell your story and just see how we've obviously worked together from there So to kick it all off, who are you guys?
[1:42] Tell me a little bit about yourself, give me your elevator pitch Tell me more about your pre-Infinity leading up to when you first joined
[1:50] Yeah, well, we're a couple from living up in Brisbane, Redcliffe.
[1:55] I'm Jamal.
[1:55] This is my wife, beautiful wife, Marion.
[1:58] And we have a 17-year-old child, still at home, living with us at school.
[2:05] And both working.
[2:09] I'm a FIFO worker.
[2:10] Marion's a... All-working customer service.
[2:14] Customer service.
[2:15] There you go.
[2:18] And so, um, infinity, prior to infinity, life was, um, groundhog day.
[2:23] He FIFOs week on, week off.
[2:26] And I go to, um, obviously to my office job and that, and it was deja vu, um, go to work, um, go to work.
[2:35] We're tired.
[2:36] Life happens.
[2:37] There's chaos in the world and chaos in the household.
[2:40] Child's going to school.
[2:42] And our spending habits had no budget.
[2:45] Spending habits were like, okay, if I want it, I see it, I buy it.
[2:52] Yeah.
[2:53] I think you've described it to me before as a financial treadmill, just going round and round in circles.
[2:58] Yeah.
[2:59] Never really feeling like you're getting ahead.
[3:01] And who brought you guys to infinity?
[3:03] Who found us?
[3:05] I have to say that was me.
[3:07] Yeah.
[3:07] And I have to say it was, sorry, G, I flicked past your face for months.
[3:11] But one day I decided to stop, and that's where the world changed for us.
[3:15] Time stood still.
[3:17] Joined the webinar.
[3:19] Never, ever had seen you before.
[3:22] Never looked at a podcast to do with Infinity or Money Mentor.
[3:26] Just went straight to the webinar by myself.
[3:29] Jamal was at work, and then –
[3:32] He rang me whilst I was on that webinar and I said, no, hang up, ring me.
[3:36] I'll ring you after this because I'm doing something, I'm learning, and I'll ring you when I finish.
[3:41] So, you know, long story short, that finished, booked us into the master class.
[3:45] He flew back in, had two days, and his Saturday, Sunday, was booked up in a master class.
[3:52] yeah perfect it was awesome yeah enjoyed it three minutes i was hooked yeah three minutes i've been told mary hey well you're making me a coffee bring an empty bucket because i'm not going to the toilet i'm not leaving the tv i was hooked
[4:08] That's awesome.
[4:09] So, that's obviously the start of your journey.
[4:11] How did you guys feel, obviously, not coming from a place where you're budgeting, probably never had somebody in your corner financially by the sound of it?
[4:18] You know, before you met me, before we had our first initial onboarding, how did it feel?
[4:22] What were your thoughts leading into it?
[4:23] Were you a bit obviously scared to see what we would do?
[4:26] Were you obviously super excited, but was there other emotions, nervous, anything?
[4:30] Did you think, question if it was going to work?
[4:32] No, it was there.
[4:33] It was there for me.
[4:34] It was there from the webinar.
[4:35] I was sold on that.
[4:36] G had similar numbers to where we were sitting at in our loan.
[4:39] So one of the examples, and it was like, okay, for me, that's where that penny dropped.
[4:45] It's like, yeah, I get it.
[4:46] And then for myself, when it came to the masterclass, all the other things started dropping, and it's like a jigsaw puzzle.
[4:53] We're all building these pieces, but it was kind of like finishing that whole puzzle.
[4:57] And for us it was connection, authentic, suits, you know.
[5:03] We fit.
[5:04] I feel we're a good fit.
[5:05] And if they think we're a good fit, I think we'll be selected.
[5:11] So –
[5:13] Then it was that wait after the masterclass.
[5:17] But for me, I was sold on the webinar.
[5:18] Yeah.
[5:19] Yeah, awesome.
[5:20] Similar to you, Jamal?
[5:21] I was sold on a masterclass.
[5:22] I hadn't seen the webinar.
[5:24] Yeah.
[5:24] Straight in.
[5:25] Straight in.
[5:26] I didn't skip it.
[5:28] It's just that I wasn't getting that media like she was getting.
[5:31] Yeah.
[5:31] And she was just swiping, swiping G's face.
[5:34] Yeah.
[5:34] Yeah, I wasn't getting it.
[5:35] But when she rang me, told me, hey, your weekend's going to be watching the masterclass.
[5:41] That's where it started for me.
[5:43] Awesome.
[5:43] Yeah.
[5:43] Well, you know, looking pre-Infinity as well to where you guys are now.
[5:46] So, you know, you've got the investment properties underway.
[5:49] You've got, you know, really far ahead on your home loan compared to where you were.
[5:53] It's not like your incomes have drastically changed or changed really at all since prior to Infinity.
[5:57] So what has changed?
[6:01] Mindset.
[6:02] Mindsets, yeah.
[6:03] Yeah.
[6:04] It's changed, though.
[6:05] Yeah.
[6:06] It's real positive.
[6:07] And we can talk about...
[6:10] things deeper than what we're used to.
[6:12] Before it was just, ah, yeah, whatever, you know, just toss it aside.
[6:17] Our relationship with money, that's changed, how we view that, you know.
[6:22] I go to work and work gives me a lifestyle.
[6:25] But now that lifestyle looks different.
[6:27] It's that change of mindset.
[6:28] We've changed the difference of how that money looks and how it's sitting and having a budget and how we work at that and have those goals where they were pipe dreams before.
[6:38] Yeah.
[6:38] So the financial part of it's changed.
[6:42] There's also the emotional journey in it individually and as a family.
[6:47] And it's a huge mind shift because –
[6:52] You're investing, we're investing in ourselves.
[6:55] So now we're learning to deal with some raw emotions, some past emotions, and to bring ourselves to where we are now.
[7:05] And that's in a better place.
[7:06] But it's always going to be evolving because –
[7:09] There's no easy fix.
[7:11] It's a journey.
[7:12] And that strategy, the strategy on how you help us and we have our catch-ups and we can talk our talk when we're having those catch-ups be ourselves and how we can then help.
[7:26] The takeaway is so there's a great takeaway.
[7:29] You know, we're making ourselves accountable.
[7:32] You're seeing that it's all transparent.
[7:35] The other takeaways for us is how we deal with the emotions.
[7:40] Emotionally, how are we changing our relationship with money?
[7:43] It's hard because it's like I used to tap, but now I have to think, you know.
[7:49] So is that a wise thing to go and spend something on?
[7:52] No, it's not in our budget.
[7:54] So that budget's going to give me another house.
[7:57] That budget's going to pay my house off quicker.
[8:00] And that's going to look so much better as we move, but it's all evolving, but for the better.
[8:11] Yeah.
[8:11] And obviously a lot of people would look at a budget
[8:14] as a scary word, no one, no one ever likes to be on a budget.
[8:17] You know, if you look at it more like you guys, you're, you've got structure now within your lives.
[8:21] Do you find, you know, obviously pre-infinity, do you feel like you're living with nothing?
[8:25] Do you feel like you're going without, or do you probably feel like you're probably in more abundance because you're actually thinking about everything you're spending?
[8:33] Thinking about everything we're spending, eh?
[8:35] It's just, look,
[8:37] We've adapted to our budget.
[8:40] For me, it's not a problem.
[8:41] And I can take it down further, eh?
[8:45] You know, but, yeah.
[8:46] I'll make a note of that.
[8:47] Yeah.
[8:47] Yeah, but it's so good because we… Yeah, we talk about it, eh?
[8:51] Yeah.
[8:52] We're always communicating.
[8:53] And we've always been the ones who, you know, yeah, we used to like going out, but now we're not going out and spending ridiculous amounts on alcohol at gigs and things like that.
[9:03] We're actually thinking about where we're going, what we're spending.
[9:06] And we are lucky enough to have the house that allows us to enjoy the eating, the cooking and all that at home.
[9:12] Yeah, at home, yeah, just tripping meals yourselves.
[9:16] It's beautiful.
[9:17] It's wonderful, you know.
[9:19] Yeah.
[9:20] And it's effortless.
[9:21] Effortless.
[9:22] Whereas before it was, oh, we'll just go out, we'll do this.
[9:25] But our going outs were big go outs.
[9:28] So we might go to an event and that event was looking like, oh, it's an easy $400 on alcohol.
[9:36] You know, you go to a event, you're paying for your costs to get there, your stuff to get there.
[9:41] Now it's like, yeah, no, we've seen them, we've done that.
[9:45] How else can we do it?
[9:46] Just being more structured.
[9:47] Structured and just changing up on what's more important.
[9:51] Yeah.
[9:52] Whereas we, you know, there are some things that are, you have goals, you want to see this group or something.
[9:57] We look at it a bit differently now.
[9:58] Yeah.
[9:58] Yeah, awesome.
[9:59] And our spending when we go out.
[10:00] So definitely, and we still get to go out and experience good places.
[10:05] So you still enjoy life.
[10:06] Yeah.
[10:07] You're not eating two-minute noodles seven different ways.
[10:10] We came down here last night from Redcliffe.
[10:12] Yeah.
[10:12] And we brought our own food with us now.
[10:15] How good is that?
[10:16] Would you have ever gone to a hotel with a pre-cooked meal prior to infinity?
[10:20] No.
[10:20] Yeah.
[10:21] Awesome.
[10:22] You know, and it was like, okay, you know, we'll do a way to go for it.
[10:25] It's all good.
[10:26] You know, so things like that.
[10:28] And, but we...
[10:31] I think, you know, it comes down to you're either lazy or you're not.
[10:34] Yeah.
[10:35] Yeah.
[10:35] 100%.
[10:36] Where do you put your time?
[10:37] Yeah.
[10:37] Choose your hard.
[10:38] And where do you put your thoughts?
[10:39] So your time, your thoughts, and everything about you is invested in you.
[10:43] Yeah.
[10:43] And everyone around us, and for me, Jamal, you, Connor, everyone, it's all helpful.
[10:49] Yeah.
[10:50] Yeah.
[10:50] Awesome.
[10:51] As you mentioned before, obviously investing in yourself is, you know, a very big thing.
[10:55] You guys have to make the change as G says, there's no magic in what we do here.
[10:59] So you guys have done that.
[11:00] If you can tell me a little bit about, you know, especially you Jamal, your shift from when you first started infinity or prior to infinity, your relationship with the finances, um, dive a little bit deeper into that, I think, cause you know,
[11:12] if you're open to it, I think before infinity, you weren't really that involved in the finances per se, just weren't, weren't, you know, wasn't much of a thing for you.
[11:20] It was more Marion that took care of it all.
[11:21] But now you guys are super united on that, which is so cool to see.
[11:25] Yeah.
[11:26] No, it's yeah.
[11:27] I look at things differently now, especially on the financial parts.
[11:30] I'm always asking very questions, which is before I didn't care.
[11:35] It was just have a good time.
[11:37] Go to work, do your usual, earn the big money, you know.
[11:42] Work hard, play hard.
[11:43] Work hard, yeah.
[11:44] That was our culture.
[11:45] That was my culture growing up, you know, until affinity came along.
[11:51] It just changed, hey?
[11:52] It changed.
[11:54] And in the short time we've been with them, I've adapted quite quickly to the financial side because, like I said, I'm always asking my own questions.
[12:04] And she breaks it down for me.
[12:06] It's like when I first heard G-Man, he called me because he broke it down to people like me who don't understand big words.
[12:13] Yeah, kept it simple.
[12:14] Yeah, kept it simple.
[12:15] And if I can understand G, well –
[12:19] Any ordinary bloke like me could, eh?
[12:20] Yeah, awesome.
[12:21] Yeah, so.
[12:22] And how would you explain your relationship with your relationship manager?
[12:26] Obviously, how do we work together?
[12:28] Is it as scary as you probably thought having, you know, someone in your corner trying to keep you to a budget?
[12:34] Is it, or are you working quite, you know, with me quite a lot?
[12:37] How would you guys explain it from your perspective?
[12:40] It was, um...
[12:43] It was beautiful to build a relationship with you.
[12:45] Yeah.
[12:45] Okay.
[12:46] So, you know, when you come into infinity, it's like, okay, everything's new.
[12:49] It's scary at the start, eh?
[12:50] Yeah.
[12:51] And it's like, oh, you know.
[12:53] Because he knows everything about you, so we're getting too scared to waste our money on shit, eh?
[12:59] You know?
[12:59] I'm a scary person.
[13:00] What can I say?
[13:01] You can't hide anything.
[13:02] There's nothing to hide.
[13:03] Yeah.
[13:04] And it makes you more honest, you know?
[13:06] It brings out, yeah.
[13:08] Yeah, and it makes you accountable.
[13:09] And there's no need to be accountable because it's about the change and the way and where and how you use your money, what comes in and what goes out.
[13:19] But it's –
[13:21] the relationship is how we're all both the same.
[13:24] You're you, we're us.
[13:25] Yeah.
[13:26] You know, and we love you for you.
[13:28] And that's the amazing thing because we're all human and, you know, we're not, you don't come to us and say this is, it's a working relationship, it's a respectful relationship, and it's a friendly relationship because we're true.
[13:42] So when you're true in a journey, that's where it becomes effortless.
[13:48] Yeah.
[13:49] You know, we don't have anything to hide.
[13:52] We have more to gain.
[13:53] And it's how we succeed together.
[13:55] And it's a friendship for life.
[14:00] Yeah, definitely.
[14:01] And that's amazing to have someone like you in our corner.
[14:05] to know it was, okay, first we come on board.
[14:08] We're on, we haven't been in seven months.
[14:10] Okay.
[14:10] So that's pretty cool that, you know, we're like, I'm going to meet up.
[14:13] And now we stretched it out.
[14:15] Yeah.
[14:16] There's something there.
[14:17] There's trust.
[14:17] Yeah.
[14:18] You guys are, yeah, I know you found your feet.
[14:19] We don't have to, you know, check in as often as much as we want.
[14:22] it's always a good laugh when we do.
[14:24] There's no need to go over it with a fine tooth comb because you've taken it, you've run with it.
[14:29] And again, you've made that change for yourselves, which is super exciting.
[14:32] And, you know, it's only going to say a testament to you guys and what's going to happen in the next couple of years.
[14:36] If you keep focused, when I'm confident you definitely will, which is exciting.
[14:40] I think to wrap it all up,
[14:43] What is being a part of in the Infinity family, now the greater community, obviously you've got your relationship managers, but it's more than just us.
[14:50] It's more than just the staff.
[14:51] It's more than just, gee, we've got the community out there.
[14:54] What does that mean to you being a part of, you know, Christmas parties, community events, REMS, having that, you know, knowing it's more than just you and the people you can pass that on to.
[15:02] As, you know, Jamal, you've got some people at work that you might have, you know, not, you know, they might have had questions.
[15:07] You can push them in the right direction to help them change their life financially as well.
[15:13] I get a few questions asked.
[15:16] But before I answer, I always, if I could, if I can, I bring up Marion.
[15:23] I say, hey, I've got a few people.
[15:25] I ask me, what should I say to them?
[15:27] She said, don't say anything stupid, but just tell them, watch the web.
[15:31] Go watch a podcast because it's all free.
[15:34] And you'll learn so much from it, you know, instead of me trying to spread out something I don't understand.
[15:40] Yeah, so.
[15:42] But affinity is a family.
[15:44] And for us, everyone's got arms open.
[15:47] We all got journeys.
[15:48] Everyone's got individual journeys.
[15:51] And it's not a race to the finish line.
[15:53] It's a supporting race as everyone's running their journey of building.
[15:57] You know, we've all come in in different times to that race.
[16:01] And what it looks like in the end for everyone is different.
[16:05] But the journey is how, you know, every event we go to, everyone's supported.
[16:09] Yeah.
[16:11] And it's not about being better than the next person.
[16:13] It's about being empowering towards the people, the family of infinity, and also taking it outside of infinity because it's a wider reach.
[16:23] You know, we all come from, and I think people that come into infinity and outside, we're all part of a village and communities in different ways.
[16:32] And infinity is there to support people through their financial journey and the help on board.
[16:39] Mm-hmm.
[16:40] But how we do that, it spreads out into the greater good of where we live.
[16:46] And that's all across the communities, Australia, and we've proven it in the way that, you know, as when something such as the great, I think it's great, what Infinity's done for us and how we could during last year when we had the Christmas appeal, that was just effortless, no thought in that.
[17:06] Yeah.
[17:07] And that's how great it is.
[17:08] Everyone gets together.
[17:09] Because what you put back in is what you get out.
[17:11] And it was a no-brainer to say, look what you made us.
[17:16] Well, actually, look how you helped us achieve this goal in a short period of time and how much we can give back and to help someone else.
[17:25] It doesn't have to be...
[17:28] Say, for example, it's giving back outside of infinity, but still a part of infinity.
[17:33] And the villages are so different.
[17:35] There's so many types of villages that we can help and support.
[17:38] And that's what I love about infinity.
[17:39] It's not a closed off thing.
[17:41] It's something that goes deep and better.
[17:45] And it's always about, I believe, for me, it's about growth.
[17:50] yeah awesome and as you know Jamal you normally wear your infinity shirt on your fly out day so it's you know you're obviously proud to be a part of infinity it's almost like repping your sporting team you want to wear it you want people to ask you questions you want to be known so you know it's awesome to have you guys on board I'm super grateful to have been part of your journey and will be part of your journey for hopefully a long time to come as well and thank you very much for your time today you're welcome and we love you being a part of our journey you're the best thanks guys
