Greg and Ali share how they rebuilt their financial lives after coming from difficult past relationships and a pile of debts that included credit cards, car loans, and a heavy mortgage. After joining Infinity they learned to budget strategically, attack debt with precision, and shift their entire approach to money. Ali’s disciplined mindset from her military background and Greg’s willingness to embrace structure became the backbone of their progress. Their efforts paid off, they eliminated their mortgage, cleared their debts, and built a portfolio of six investment properties. Now heading to Newcastle for Ali’s job promotion, they’re focused on creating stability, generational wealth, and a financial foundation their children can inherit. They credit the Infinity's education and support for transforming not just their finances, but their future. 👉 Follow the link https://bit.ly/43V2jKN to watch the free webinar and start your Infinity journey now!

[0:00] So mortgage was $646 to be pretty precise, you said.
[0:04] What's the mortgage balance today, three years later?
[0:07] Zero.
[0:07] We don't have mortgage.
[0:09] No mortgage?
[0:10] No.
[0:10] No mortgage.
[0:11] No mortgage.
[0:13] Okay.
[0:14] So no mortgage.
[0:16] No mortgage.
[0:16] Congratulations.
[0:17] Thank you.
[0:18] Money is the root of all evil.
[0:19] The fucking lack of it is.
[0:20] Not money.
[0:22] The lack of understanding money.
[0:23] When I put that into emphasis, when I realize our psychological effect and how it hit our family, I have to be in the fucking way.
[0:30] You are now watching the Money Man Talk podcast with Graham Holm.
[0:34] Graham Holm.
[0:34] Graham Holm.
[0:35] Graham Holm.
[0:40] Welcome back to another episode of The Money Mentor.
[0:43] And today we have two very special guests on our Changing Lives Financially series.
[0:46] We have Ali and Greg.
[0:48] Just Greg for you, by the way.
[0:50] How are we, guys?
[0:51] Good, thanks.
[0:52] We're good, thank you.
[0:53] How are you?
[0:54] I can't complain.
[0:54] Bec doesn't like to listen.
[0:56] So I'm always great.
[0:58] I'm always great.
[0:59] You always say the same thing.
[1:00] This might be amazing.
[1:01] Smart man.
[1:01] Smart man.
[1:03] He has me, that's right.
[1:05] Very smart, man.
[1:05] There you go.
[1:07] So for everyone at home tuning in, maybe we'll start with your background.
[1:11] So give us a little background of who you are, where you're from, and we'll go from there maybe.
[1:17] Well, I am South America, came to Australia 20 years ago.
[1:21] I'm 45 years old with two little kids.
[1:26] Okay, beautiful.
[1:27] He's practically Australian now.
[1:29] I, yeah, yeah.
[1:31] Unless you're angry, then that South American is in big trouble.
[1:34] Yeah, yeah, we don't say any F words, we say different.
[1:39] Yeah, that's even scarier.
[1:41] Yeah.
[1:42] Everything sounds more aggressive in South America.
[1:44] Absolutely, it does.
[1:46] Or is.
[1:47] Have you learnt any?
[1:48] Little bits.
[1:49] Little bits?
[1:50] You know all the bad words.
[1:52] Most of them.
[1:53] I get told them a fair bit.
[1:56] Okay, good.
[1:58] So two young children.
[2:00] Yes, we have a 15-year-old boy and... 15 months.
[2:04] 15 months, sorry.
[2:05] And a four-year-old girl.
[2:07] Okay.
[2:08] Yes.
[2:08] Beautiful.
[2:08] Okay.
[2:09] Greg?
[2:11] Obviously, my name's Greg.
[2:13] I'm 49.
[2:14] Yeah.
[2:16] Background, born and bred Australia.
[2:18] Yep.
[2:19] Never left Queensland.
[2:21] Never left?
[2:21] Never left.
[2:22] Brisbane.
[2:23] Brisbane boy.
[2:24] Send you on a holiday to Tasmania or something?
[2:25] That's it.
[2:26] Okay.
[2:28] So yeah, that's pretty much me.
[2:30] Cool.
[2:31] How long, when did you guys meet?
[2:34] It was around COVID.
[2:36] Yeah, it was 2019, age of 2019, yes.
[2:41] Yeah.
[2:42] And then we pretty much separated from previous marriage, going through some financial kind of problems as well.
[2:54] Yeah.
[2:55] Yeah, and then from there we did pretty quick because we laid in 40s back then and we know exactly what it takes to be in a relationship, a bit serious relationship, and we had some personal plans as well.
[3:10] So you guys are a fresher relationship.
[3:12] Yeah, we were, yeah.
[3:14] Like four or five years now happily married?
[3:18] Well, yes, yes, very, very happy.
[3:19] Oh, I thought you were going to say, well, we're married.
[3:21] I don't know about happy.
[3:24] Happily married.
[3:25] With equestasis.
[3:27] No, we're very happy.
[3:28] I feel like we walk together very good as we're a good team together.
[3:33] Good.
[3:33] That's important.
[3:34] That's what's important, yes.
[3:36] So pre-Infinity, you guys had a decent-sized mortgage.
[3:40] How much was a mortgage?
[3:41] Six-something?
[3:42] About $6.46 to be exact.
[3:45] Okay.
[3:45] Yes.
[3:45] Good.
[3:46] Yeah.
[3:46] So decent-sized mortgage.
[3:47] Yes.
[3:48] And you're Brizzy?
[3:49] Brizzy, yeah.
[3:49] Yes.
[3:50] Okay.
[3:51] Young family, six foot, okay.
[3:53] And what about like credit cards, car loans?
[3:56] Did you have investments?
[3:58] No investments.
[4:00] Credit cards, yes, a bit of debt there.
[4:05] Shares.
[4:06] So a little bit of investment.
[4:08] Well, yeah, a little bit of investment there, just sitting.
[4:10] Okay, okay.
[4:12] Cool.
[4:13] So, and then when did you find, actually, were you sort of, how were you guys going financially?
[4:18] Were you smashing it?
[4:19] Were you just making minimum payments?
[4:21] Obviously young family, two young kids, maternity leave.
[4:24] How were things financially back then?
[4:26] Minimum payments.
[4:27] Okay.
[4:28] Because that's all you need to do, right?
[4:29] Yep.
[4:30] Credit card debt?
[4:31] Was it clearing each month?
[4:32] It was clearing each month.
[4:34] Okay.
[4:37] you get on that track of putting everything into a certain account and then putting it all on credit and then getting your bonus points or whatever else.
[4:45] And at the end of the month, you clear the...
[4:48] So, yeah, that was there as well.
[4:49] And, yeah, car loans has... We had different bank accounts as well.
[4:54] Separate?
[4:55] Separate, yes.
[4:56] Ooh.
[4:57] I, myself, I had about- But you had two babies.
[4:59] What do you share bodily fluids, but not bank accounts?
[5:01] Well, back then we, we literally, I was, when I met Infinity, came across Infinity, we were singles, but we planning to have a kid.
[5:12] Ah, okay.
[5:12] Gotcha, gotcha.
[5:13] So you guys were earlier on in the relationship.
[5:15] So what was that?
[5:16] Was that 2021, 22?
[5:20] 21 I think when he first found Infinity.
[5:23] When did you sign up with us?
[5:25] 22.
[5:25] 22, okay.
[5:26] So you did some research for a while?
[5:29] I did.
[5:29] Okay.
[5:31] Creeping on us for a year or so?
[5:32] Very, very skeptical.
[5:34] Okay.
[5:35] South America background, I'm not sure if it is people that come from overseas as well have to start again.
[5:41] with your finance, you're very careful.
[5:44] I was very careful to invest or anything.
[5:47] But I always wanted to.
[5:49] I always been other seminars, different people with the same concept of your business.
[5:56] But I never really felt that I was safe.
[5:59] Right.
[6:00] Never really felt that I like, can I trust this?
[6:02] Something wasn't clicking.
[6:04] Nothing was clicking.
[6:05] It was literally like, okay, come across two weekends.
[6:10] I came to Gold Coast once with this lady.
[6:13] And then she pretty much the same idea.
[6:16] But then she would say, you do your ball.
[6:19] After that, I would be like, okay, I have a bit of saving, but what do I do next?
[6:24] Yeah, okay.
[6:25] So that's why I always, when I came across with...
[6:28] So you've done a lot of research, lots of events, lots of learning, just hadn't pulled the trigger, just wasn't quite right.
[6:35] I wasn't, yeah, I wasn't confident that I could, like, okay, this money was very hard to get.
[6:40] And I'm not going to trust in not everyone to actually deal with it.
[6:45] So when I find your come across facing bulk scrolling, you came, and then I start listening.
[6:54] That was the first instance that I saw you.
[6:56] I was like, okay, I'm going to follow this guy.
[6:58] I'm going to see this business, see what's the concept.
[7:02] Start listening to some podcasts from family that had a bit of my background as well.
[7:06] It's like I can relate it to this family.
[7:08] So I did a bit of research, and I waited, and I watched it.
[7:12] And I saw a lot of people saying, like, it's changing my life.
[7:15] and that's when came greg came went into my life i mentioned it and then that's when i first invited him like you need to see this right and that's when so he did a fair bit of homework sat on it for a while kept watching it studying it learning it and then came together and okay let's have a look at this together but i was always from the old school you had your principal
[7:39] resident and you just pay that off.
[7:41] Investments come maybe 30 years later when you paid you.
[7:46] So I wasn't on the same page, so to speak.
[7:51] But when he said, you need to jump in on this, that's where we're at.
[7:56] When we went in the date, one of the questions was like, what do you want to – I was pretty much reporting to him, like what do you want to be in five years?
[8:04] Right.
[8:05] So I'm not – You made a list and you were checking it twice.
[8:08] Yes, exactly.
[8:09] Yes.
[8:10] This is where I want to be.
[8:11] Okay.
[8:11] And I say, like, I want to have investment properties.
[8:14] And he's like, I never had more than one property.
[8:17] What are you talking about?
[8:18] I was like, we need to do something then.
[8:21] And that's when I pretty much educating Greg.
[8:25] So you're the skeptic, but you're also driving it.
[8:28] Yes.
[8:28] Okay.
[8:29] So, okay.
[8:30] That's interesting.
[8:31] Okay.
[8:32] So you found us a lot earlier, but you came to us formally in like October, like late 22, right?
[8:39] Yes.
[8:40] And then what did you guys set up as your food, fuel and fun?
[8:43] Do you remember?
[8:45] Yeah.
[8:47] I think originally it was about 510.
[8:49] Okay.
[8:50] Yes.
[8:51] But with the extra additions to our family, it increased.
[8:54] Yep.
[8:54] And during maternity leave, we dropped it back again.
[8:58] Okay.
[8:58] Because...
[8:59] So where does it sit today?
[9:01] It's about 610 at the moment.
[9:02] 610.
[9:03] Okay.
[9:03] And I still think that is a bit over.
[9:06] Okay.
[9:07] Well, let's...
[9:08] So mortgage was 646 to be pretty precise, you said.
[9:12] What's the mortgage balance today, three years later?
[9:15] Zero.
[9:16] We don't have mortgage.
[9:17] No mortgage?
[9:18] No.
[9:18] No mortgage.
[9:19] No mortgage.
[9:22] Okay.
[9:23] So no mortgage.
[9:24] No mortgage.
[9:24] Congratulations.
[9:25] Thank you.
[9:27] Now, did we sell any cars, toys, win lotto?
[9:32] How did we get there?
[9:34] It was a bit of everything, to be honest.
[9:38] It wasn't a magical thing.
[9:40] Yeah.
[9:40] It was a lot of, we had a bit of savings.
[9:44] Also had a little bit of savings where I came from.
[9:47] But it came across with my background as a military.
[9:52] Yes.
[9:53] Through the service, 10 years plus service, we get, you know, injuries and stuff like that.
[9:59] So we get a bailout.
[10:00] Yeah.
[10:01] it's a kind of like a thank you for your service and that really gave a little bit of us help but it was more in concept of like a mindset changed before that
[10:17] So we did a bit of work before everything came up with the lump sum, to be honest.
[10:22] Yeah.
[10:23] So would you say it was half-half, you had a big lump sum, and then you attacked the rest over the last couple of years?
[10:28] A hundred percent.
[10:30] Okay.
[10:30] Well, I sold the shares that I had, and that all went straight onto the mortgage.
[10:34] And you had some savings, which we put straight off the mortgage.
[10:37] And even prior to, I guess, the payouts, we were smashing down our...
[10:43] When we started with Infinity, we weren't ready to go on the rapid repay because we'd just got a mortgage with TheftPak.
[10:51] So we had to get it down to a certain point before we could kick into that.
[10:54] But we were still pretty regimented in the way we were attacking our budget and all that sort of stuff as well.
[11:00] Okay.
[11:02] And so no mortgage today?
[11:04] No.
[11:04] Well done.
[11:05] Thank you.
[11:06] It's crazy.
[11:07] It is.
[11:07] It's crazy, right?
[11:09] Yes.
[11:11] So, tell me, no mortgage today, does it feel real or does it feel a bit like pinch yourself a little bit?
[11:21] Pinch yourself.
[11:22] Yeah.
[11:23] Doesn't feel real yet.
[11:24] Have you stopped to celebrate or have you processed or are you just kind of like...
[11:30] Well, I kind of, like, we don't stop, pretty much.
[11:35] Like, I feel the mentality is there.
[11:38] And when the information came, like, you're mortgage-free, we just took, like, another day, literally.
[11:46] It was like, it was a celebration.
[11:48] Another day in paradise.
[11:49] But we're still in business, yeah.
[11:51] It's like Christmas or Easter.
[11:53] Yep, continue on.
[11:55] It's not one day that it breaks.
[11:56] I think the work is every day.
[11:59] And it's good to know, but if we, you put, we celebrate a little bit on the day, but I was like, okay, tomorrow we have to go back and to work and we have to, you know, do what we have to do.
[12:10] So, and what about investing?
[12:12] You've done any investing along the way?
[12:16] Yep.
[12:16] Yes.
[12:17] We've got six properties now.
[12:19] Six.
[12:20] Six.
[12:20] Plus the home.
[12:21] Plus the home.
[12:22] In three years.
[12:23] In three years.
[12:24] Yep.
[12:25] So no debt on the mortgage, help with a bit of pay up, but a lot of other hustle as well.
[12:29] Yeah.
[12:29] Six new investment properties.
[12:31] Mm-hmm.
[12:32] Yes.
[12:33] Come on.
[12:34] Yeah.
[12:34] A load of shit.
[12:35] Going crazy.
[12:35] I know.
[12:36] I know.
[12:38] But it is reality and it's hard to believe.
[12:42] We're still like, okay, it's really working.
[12:46] What are we doing?
[12:47] And we just want to continue.
[12:50] It's amazing what we achieve.
[12:52] What's the big goal then?
[12:54] If you want to say, want to continue, like you've already got six.
[12:57] Mm-hmm.
[12:58] Continue where?
[13:00] What's the plan?
[13:03] My point of view, I'm talking about me.
[13:05] It's my legacy with my kids.
[13:08] I feel like this is more important than anything.
[13:11] Family comes first.
[13:12] But I feel like I missed that if I just had my family to have the education before.
[13:19] You know, my grandparents passed to my dad, to mum.
[13:22] My dad passed to me.
[13:24] That made my life so much easier.
[13:26] Yeah.
[13:26] And the knowledge, the wisdom that you give us, passing to our kids and their future, that's what I want to achieve.
[13:35] Like, they be... Because they don't teach in school this.
[13:38] No, no.
[13:40] We learn Pythagoras' theorem.
[13:42] I know to stop, drop and roll if I'm on fire, but I've never been on fire.
[13:46] Yeah.
[13:47] But we didn't learn some basic financial principles.
[13:50] Look, we do.
[13:51] They're in the curriculum, but there's no application of it for people at that age.
[13:57] You know what I mean?
[13:59] At 16, 17, you don't know how to apply all the things.
[14:01] Maybe 10% off, 20% off on a shopping spree, but the rest of it doesn't make sense.
[14:06] There's no real world application of it, I found, for me growing up.
[14:10] But they teach you a whole lot, you know, play the recorder or stop dropping.
[14:14] There's all this other shit, right?
[14:15] They're meant to be life skills, but it's not.
[14:18] And they really need to – that's why so many people homeschool.
[14:21] They need to revamp that whole curriculum to make it more life relative for people to actually go, oh, that's cool.
[14:28] I want to retain that information as opposed to just memorise something in a textbook.
[14:32] So it's a bit sad.
[14:34] Okay.
[14:35] Well, for me, it's continued to –
[14:36] Learn.
[14:37] Yeah.
[14:37] I've learnt so much being with Infinity.
[14:40] Yeah.
[14:41] My financial literacy is... Much higher.
[14:45] Much higher.
[14:45] I'm still learning every time.
[14:47] Yeah.
[14:47] I'm still learning every day.
[14:49] Yeah.
[14:50] To create a legacy for our kids.
[14:52] Yeah.
[14:53] Pass that knowledge on.
[14:54] Yeah.
[14:54] There's other families in the community that have got their kids involved now, which is a goal for us.
[15:00] Yeah.
[15:00] It's an absolute goal for us.
[15:01] Okay.
[15:01] I mean, our kids are four and one now.
[15:03] Yeah.
[15:04] But...
[15:05] We want to sit.
[15:06] So we want to create that generational literacy and knowledge and generational wealth now, pass that through.
[15:12] It's still being, you know, because we're just normal family.
[15:17] We, you know, we will wake up five o'clock in the morning, come back, pick up kids for the daycare, child then, then bath then, and go and repeat and repeat and repeat.
[15:29] But it's just with the foot on the ground as well.
[15:32] I don't want to have, I want them to understand everything is hard to get.
[15:36] Because if it is easy, it's easy to go as well.
[15:39] You have to be, you have to learn.
[15:42] Like, especially with my background, when I come from a place that I consider as third world country or second world country, that you have really to, you know, work massively.
[15:55] hours and you don't even get what you get here.
[15:58] It's so easy.
[15:59] It's hard.
[16:00] I wanted them to understand that too.
[16:01] So what are some of the things, when you think back on the journey, when we say, oh, I was just old school, just get your home, pay it off.
[16:11] You know, a lot of South American countries, it's impossible to even own a home.
[16:14] You know what I mean?
[16:14] Like, forget it, right?
[16:15] And if somebody does, it's generational debt that's passed down, right?
[16:19] Exactly, yeah.
[16:20] It's very difficult.
[16:22] What are some of the things that you've learned?
[16:24] We say learning.
[16:25] What are some of the things you've been learning along this journey since we've started?
[16:28] Like, share that for people at home.
[16:31] budgeting is really important.
[16:33] Okay.
[16:35] Not spending your money on just shit.
[16:36] Okay.
[16:38] So previous to, were you just like, oh, well, we earn it, spend it, earn it, spend it, whatever?
[16:44] I had, like I said before, credit cards, afterpay, whatever else.
[16:48] Yeah.
[16:49] I've got seven pairs of Jordan sitting in the cupboard that are quite in dusk.
[16:55] Yeah.
[16:57] So, yeah, budgeting is massive.
[16:59] Yeah.
[17:00] Just being smart with your money.
[17:01] Yeah.
[17:02] Really.
[17:02] Yes.
[17:03] Meal prep.
[17:04] Yeah.
[17:05] We met another family in the community.
[17:08] Our first REM in July 24.
[17:11] They chatted to us about meal prep.
[17:17] And they'd like, we bought a Thermomix.
[17:19] And it's, you know, it's good because you just buy ingredients for that particular recipe.
[17:23] Right.
[17:23] That's saved us.
[17:25] Fortune.
[17:26] Fortune.
[17:26] I mean, you're just buying, buying, buying the cabinets.
[17:29] I mean, you've got an initial outlay on the Thermomix.
[17:31] Yeah.
[17:33] We're not buying 15 lots of ingredients for 15 meals.
[17:37] Crap in the cupboard and then order ingredients.
[17:38] Yeah, it's long term.
[17:39] It saves us and also for the health of the family as well.
[17:42] What do you eat?
[17:43] It's fresh.
[17:44] Yeah.
[17:45] Okay, so budgeting and meal prep, and there's two very important things that go hand in hand as well, right?
[17:49] Because if you're meal prepping, it helps the budget, and if you're budgeting, it helps meal prepping as well to make sure you're sticking to the budget.
[17:55] Yes.
[17:56] What else have you learned along the way?
[17:58] What have you found that's been instrumental?
[18:01] Has it been difficult to align on the budgeting and meal prepping and things, or it's brought you closer together?
[18:08] I think closer together.
[18:10] Yes.
[18:11] It's a lot easier to plan stuff with two little kids.
[18:13] You don't have much time.
[18:14] It's a lot easier to plan.
[18:18] We talk about things now.
[18:20] We used like, I would buy, I would stop after work, I would buy something on my own, bring home.
[18:25] He would buy what he likes to eat and bring home.
[18:28] Now we actually, we sit and we're like, next week what are we going to do?
[18:32] So you're planning things together now.
[18:34] So brought a family together as well.
[18:36] And yes, that definitely...
[18:39] Okay.
[18:40] And what's the... A little birdie tells me there's a few things happening at the moment.
[18:45] Yeah.
[18:46] What's happening at the moment?
[18:48] Are we in the chat?
[18:50] We're...
[18:52] So Ali has got a promotion.
[18:56] Congratulations.
[18:57] Thank you.
[18:57] And we're relocating from Brisbane to Newcastle for a period of three years.
[19:01] Yep.
[19:01] Yes.
[19:02] To go to her promotion, obviously.
[19:05] Yep.
[19:06] So we're in the process of selling our PPR at the moment.
[19:10] Okay.
[19:12] So we're going to...
[19:13] So we're mortgage free and we're selling our PPR.
[19:16] It's all cash.
[19:16] Exactly.
[19:17] Okay.
[19:18] So we'll be moving to Newcastle and using defence housing.
[19:23] So there's a bit of a save there as well.
[19:26] Okay.
[19:27] So sky's the limit, hopefully.
[19:29] I was going to say, what does that mean?
[19:31] We don't know what it means.
[19:32] We're excited to know what it means.
[19:33] We're waiting for life right now.
[19:37] What it means is we have no home loan debt to service.
[19:41] We don't have a crazy rent.
[19:43] We're going to have defence housing, supplement housing to go into for the next three years.
[19:48] So for the next three years, we have a pretty strong borrowing capacity.
[19:52] So depending on whether you want to build on the current six or not, or other investments or other asset classes, it means promotion, better income, better pay package.
[20:02] Then potentially what it means is more investments.
[20:07] Sounds good to me.
[20:08] Plus you've got all the cash from the sale of the house.
[20:10] Absolutely.
[20:10] That's right.
[20:11] Yes.
[20:11] So six could turn into 12.
[20:14] Yes.
[20:15] Or eight.
[20:16] Fingers crossed.
[20:16] Or seven.
[20:17] Yes.
[20:18] Or 14.
[20:20] So ultimately for us, we haven't yet had that dream home.
[20:24] No.
[20:24] Right.
[20:25] So eventually that's where we want to be.
[20:27] But in the meantime, it's building the wealth.
[20:30] Yeah, we use that wealth building over the next couple of years again, while you're in defence housing and that senior role.
[20:36] Then we use the wealth we can create over the next three years.
[20:39] And fortunately, timing for you guys, sadly, housing crisis, construction crisis.
[20:46] not enough homes, cost of living pressures, we're in a period of supply demand, we don't have enough supply, we have way too much demand and we can't produce more supply quick enough, then it's highly like we have continued growth for a couple of years, which means you get to keep building, keep acquiring, and then finish that three years and then decide from there.
[21:06] But then it's like, well, we might just sell those investments to fund the dream home.
[21:11] we may stay here we may relocate but i guess the key the key word there is probably choice you're gonna have that choice which is great from the from the decisions we make today we should have the return to make that choice in a couple years time it's pretty exciting it is it is not i mean not for the moving part that's always annoying but yeah and with two small kids it's going to be a challenge but it's exciting it is exciting yeah it really is it's a good opportunity
[21:38] Because we literally concentrated three years, we know we're going to go hard.
[21:42] Yep.
[21:43] That's the ultimate.
[21:45] That's the plan.
[21:47] It's very good, too, to have that.
[21:49] I mean, it's not short-term, it's not long-term, but to have that mid-term, like, right, three-year plan.
[21:54] This is what we're doing.
[21:56] This is where we're staying.
[21:58] We're going to see it through.
[21:59] Because a lot of people aren't prepared to see through a year or two, let alone the seven to ten, we'd suggest.
[22:09] But expect good growth.
[22:11] Yes.
[22:12] But after the three years, if you ask, like, what do you want to do, we want to concentrate on our family.
[22:20] I feel like family is so important to us.
[22:22] And we've done it.
[22:24] We already have what we want, which is two beautiful kids.
[22:29] But we wanted to, you know, literally settle in a place that they can...
[22:35] to raise them and not be moving all the time because that's the idea.
[22:39] It's hard in the military, right?
[22:40] Because you're constantly moving around and yeah.
[22:43] It is, yes.
[22:44] We give a lot.
[22:46] Yeah.
[22:46] We give a life and you know, but it's things in return, but it's so much that you can give.
[22:52] But what's your priority is the money or is the stability in your family?
[22:58] So tell me what would be the perfect outcome?
[23:00] What would life look like in three years time?
[23:06] I think Alini wants to go part-time.
[23:08] Okay.
[23:10] Our four-year-old's got some developmental issues.
[23:13] He's autistic.
[23:14] Yeah.
[23:15] So we want to...
[23:16] It's hard.
[23:17] Yeah.
[23:17] And when I say, like, we're a normal family here, we're talking...
[23:21] I might get emotional, but she, you know, every day is a challenge with her.
[23:26] We don't know what her future looks like.
[23:28] And we're doing everything we can to support her and our little son.
[23:34] But I always thinking like, she's gonna get an age that the bullying will come because that's society, isn't it?
[23:41] And I wanna be in a position that I will be the mother there to support her.
[23:45] So when you say like, Ali, you can keep going, investing and stuff, but money comes really, I want to be in the position three years to be on that age that I should be five, six.
[23:57] It's good now that you've done that investing and paid off the more, you know, you've really set that foundation you need or want.
[24:05] You've set that foundation now, guys.
[24:07] Like you've got that behind you.
[24:08] So you can then pull back and focus on her, focus on family, which is good.
[24:14] It's really important.
[24:16] That's good.
[24:16] That's a good goal.
[24:17] I mean, it would be great to just go, I don't need to work.
[24:21] I never thought about that, Graeme.
[24:23] I really came from a background that, you know, we work hard.
[24:27] We have bad minimum in South America.
[24:30] Life is very hard there.
[24:32] So I have that kind of, when people are like, oh, you joined the military, that's nothing.
[24:37] The umbilical cord was already broke, cut it off.
[24:41] You move country, you move from the other side, you have to start.
[24:45] I was a full qualified nurse when I came from.
[24:49] I had a master and stuff like that.
[24:51] I came to this country from zero.
[24:53] No English, had to clean, have to work in constructions and stuff like that.
[24:58] So to be in a position that I am now,
[25:02] It took a lot.
[25:04] Oh my, just, it had blood because a lot of injuries.
[25:09] I had a lot of tears and I had a sweat.
[25:12] So when I trusted your company, your business to manage my finance, it means so much to me.
[25:21] And that's what I wanna be when you say like, what is your goal?
[25:26] I just wanna have a normal life, you know,
[25:29] But I be comfortable.
[25:31] I don't want to, you know, walk to live.
[25:35] I want to live to work.
[25:36] To work to work or the other way around.
[25:37] Spend time together as a family.
[25:39] Exactly.
[25:41] So, okay.
[25:43] Where do you think you want to be based?
[25:45] Say three years time, finish that deployment, that's a comment.
[25:48] You want to stay there, you want to move?
[25:50] Where do you want to be?
[25:52] We've spoken about this.
[25:53] We'd like to be on the Gold Coast, somewhere near the water.
[25:56] Yep, okay.
[25:59] If there were any drops to three days, she can be a reservist in the tree still.
[26:03] Yep.
[26:04] And there's Kois in the Gold Coast.
[26:06] Yeah, okay.
[26:08] There is Kanangara, there is Robina, and I still can do anything, you know, other kind of jobs, that's fine.
[26:14] But we never think about stopping.
[26:17] We always, until death comes, that's the only setting we have.
[26:22] Until we have mental health and stuff that we can do it, we will be doing it.
[26:28] Okay.
[26:28] Yep.
[26:29] So, okay, so perfect world.
[26:32] So home's gone now, debt free.
[26:34] You owed the 646, we paid that off.
[26:37] The home's probably worth a lot, lot more.
[26:39] We won't get into exactly what it's worth, it's worth a lot, lot more.
[26:41] You're gonna have a whole bucket load of cash shortly.
[26:44] We've got six investments at the moment.
[26:47] We can build off that as well.
[26:48] We can look at a couple of different strategies, but in three years time ideally, then a long time in the service as well, and blood, sweat and tears together.
[26:56] ideally we'd be back home to settle in the Gold Coast for school ages and lifestyle somewhere near the water you say you know walk down the beach in the morning sport one of Ali's goals in life was to live on the water okay quality life okay well we probably just need to look at the strategy now to make that happen
[27:16] That's not that hard.
[27:19] And just a little bit of a settled school for the kids.
[27:24] So that's why the move now is good because we're not ripping them out of schools and all that.
[27:30] So that's the ultimate goal.
[27:32] Yeah, okay.
[27:34] We're going to have to do a part two to this because I want to sit down in like six or 12 months once the house is sold and then the moves happened and we sort of set the dust settles there and you're into a bit of a routine with family.
[27:46] And then we can share with what we've decided to do from here onwards.
[27:50] I think that's going to be really cool because you're in this cool, crazy place of being debt free on the home, built the portfolio, now picking up and relocating and starting all over again.
[28:01] But that's a bit exciting.
[28:02] It is exciting.
[28:03] Because now we go, well, what are we going to build from there?
[28:05] We've got this huge, solid foundation.
[28:07] Yeah.
[28:08] What's next from there?
[28:09] Yeah.
[28:10] And also we just, we did a little bit of changing cars.
[28:15] Yep.
[28:15] In regards to like we downgraded the car that we had for a hybrid.
[28:21] Yeah.
[28:22] Just, you know, things like this that we've been doing.
[28:24] Just doing little things to save a bit of money.
[28:26] Save, you know, things that we...
[28:28] Anything that we have, like, ideas with the other podcasts, other families, we get into it.
[28:35] And we try on our own reality, things like that.
[28:38] Implement it.
[28:39] Exactly.
[28:40] Yeah, so...
[28:41] Are you coming to the Christmas party?
[28:42] Absolutely.
[28:43] Ah, finally.
[28:44] Did you donate yet?
[28:46] Yes.
[28:46] Yes, we did.
[28:48] Make sure you bring your presents on the day.
[28:49] Bring presents.
[28:50] We smashed the donation target.
[28:52] Absolutely.
[28:53] So now it's like we've got to get 5,000 presents donated.
[28:56] That's the target now.
[28:57] Yeah, we'll be here.
[28:58] I don't think that'll be a problem in this community.
[29:00] I don't think it'll be a problem.
[29:01] We have an amazing, amazing community.
[29:04] So, but while I've got you, have you got any questions for me?
[29:07] Do you want to pick my brain on anything?
[29:11] I'm interested to know where this Infinite HQ is going.
[29:15] The gym?
[29:16] Yeah.
[29:17] Already done.
[29:17] It's down at Burley.
[29:18] Yeah, nice.
[29:19] Yeah.
[29:19] So it was actually because Beck and I, if you remember, we share pretty much everything.
[29:23] We'd bought the house next door on the river to our house.
[29:27] And we were looking at renovating and, you know, build a McMansion and the dream home to raise our children and start a family next year and that stuff.
[29:34] And when we looked at the costings of that, I couldn't process it.
[29:40] I'm not a fan of knockdown rebuild, you know, Renault, sure, we've got the financial means.
[29:45] But when I looked at the costs, I think the cost of living pressures, people are struggling in the world right now in society and that sort of stuff.
[29:52] And to look at what we would, when we're going to renovate, it was actually going to be cheaper to knock down and start again.
[29:58] Because we were joining two basements and big rooftops.
[30:02] And I couldn't fathom that.
[30:04] You know, we talk about how we paid 8.7 for one, 7.2.
[30:08] Like, you're talking, you know, 16, 17 million dollars to destroy.
[30:12] It didn't sit well with me.
[30:14] Whereas beautiful independent family homes for somebody else.
[30:20] So we then, obviously in that process, because it was going to take a couple of years to build and we had plans being drawn up.
[30:24] We then obviously set up the health hub down in Burley.
[30:28] And we just set it up for Bec and I initially privately.
[30:31] But now we're obviously going to start doing some community client stuff.
[30:34] It's kind of an us and community.
[30:36] but not open to the public, obviously.
[30:39] But yeah, that's just getting finished construction, paint, little bits and pieces at the moment as we speak.
[30:44] And we've just gone and bought a new house.
[30:46] Oh, congratulations.
[30:48] Yeah, we're just in the process now.
[30:50] So because we moved to Burley on the beach.
[30:52] Wow.
[30:52] We were going to stay there while we did all the reno in it.
[30:55] And then the reno turned into a knockdown rebuild and it's just got out of hand.
[31:00] So I just can't justify the money.
[31:01] I'm like, cool, they're two beautiful homes to sell to other families to enjoy.
[31:06] Yeah.
[31:06] And we'll go just do what we want to do.
[31:08] So...
[31:09] We're in our own little transition phase at the moment.
[31:13] Yeah, nice.
[31:13] So it'll be next year before the dust settles for us now.
[31:16] So, yeah.
[31:17] What else do you want to pick my brain on?
[31:21] The only other real stuff is... Like, I know we've got the no mortgage and the six investments.
[31:28] Yeah.
[31:28] And you've already briefly touched on it.
[31:30] We'll catch up in the next six to 12 months because we're in an interesting position.
[31:35] But when we do sell our PPR...
[31:39] we're really keen or excited to know where that puts us, as in what plans or whether there's a plan A, plan B, plan C. There'll be plan A, B, option one, option two, option three, and we can start reverse engineering that now before you've even sold.
[31:57] Because the agent's going to be saying, oh, look, we think we're going to get about X dollars for it.
[32:01] So we can start that process now.
[32:03] We can start building a strategy and go, right, if we get, just make up a number, $1 million, right, for the home.
[32:09] We owe nothing.
[32:10] That's cash less the agent's fees, et cetera.
[32:12] There's no capital gains tax.
[32:14] We can then use that cash plus the current portfolio, all of the equity, all of the income, the new job.
[32:20] And we can look at that and create the new serviceability and tell you exactly what else we can do right now.
[32:26] Okay.
[32:26] And we can do that now.
[32:28] yeah that would be great we can start i do i do like on the on the memes when you do the the whiteboard session i do well that's what in my head i just was doing whiteboard i'm like right that one's gone these six day what can we and that's exactly where my brain's because we can literally get your team to do that today yep sounds amazing we'll start the ball today yeah
[32:48] We have this kind of, me and Craig has a bit of a joke in regards to when we see other families, that it's not in infinity doing things like renovating or a 12 years old house in the renovating.
[33:02] And we just look at each other like, imagine what Graham would say about this.
[33:05] Well, it works for some people.
[33:07] We know exactly what you say, but yes.
[33:09] Yes, it was like, it's so much that you gave indirectly knowing because you have so many families.
[33:19] But if you ask me, like, literally, if you tell me right now, we're not doing this tomorrow, we would be like, what are we going to be, what do we do with life, literally?
[33:30] Oh, you mean Finity?
[33:31] Yes.
[33:32] Oh, you want me to sack you?
[33:33] No.
[33:34] Oh.
[33:35] I was telling... We're scared of that.
[33:37] If you tell us...
[33:39] If you said to us, what would you do without infinity?
[33:42] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[33:43] Like, guys, you and your own booth.
[33:46] Yeah, yeah.
[33:47] We would have no idea what we'd do.
[33:49] We would shit ourselves.
[33:51] I've actually asked that in a few points.
[33:52] I'm like, what would happen if infinity didn't exist tomorrow?
[33:54] People started crying and shit.
[33:55] I was like, oh, I'll sit down.
[33:56] I would freak out, literally, yes, because...
[33:59] The support we get from the infinity staff is beyond... Amazing.
[34:05] I get off the phone talking to either anyone here.
[34:09] Yeah.
[34:11] And I said to Ellie the other day, I said, fuck, I love talking to these guys.
[34:14] You just get off the phone and you're just like.
[34:18] They all deeply care.
[34:20] Absolutely.
[34:20] And they're all doing, I was saying to someone before the podcast, I've seen Emily shared her sweep the other day.
[34:26] Karen just got her first time.
[34:28] Couple's team just got their third, fourth investment.
[34:30] They're all doing what we teach off the back of what Beck and I teach and what we do.
[34:35] So it's all organic because everybody's a product of the product.
[34:40] We do what we suggest, what we advise.
[34:43] That helps because you're talking to someone who is budgeting, who is reducing debt, who is investing, you know, all of those different phases and team members.
[34:51] It wasn't always like that.
[34:54] We've had some horrific turns of staff over the years.
[34:57] Like any business, it's overnight success and everyone can do it better in the industry.
[35:01] Sweet.
[35:02] But I've been in this for 25 years now that you have an insurance.
[35:06] It's only really the last few years that it's just fucking nailed it, to be honest.
[35:11] And we've still got clients like Doug and Letitia from 2012, 2013,
[35:18] Not a lot of businesses keep clients for 12, 13 years, 14 years, you know.
[35:22] So it's cool.
[35:25] It's fun.
[35:25] It's good.
[35:26] You know, the Craigs and Kims, it's coming on 10 years now.
[35:29] Steve and Sue Ann's, all these people.
[35:31] So Megan's and Jeremy's, it's nice to hear that.
[35:36] But luckily we're not going anywhere anytime soon.
[35:40] Yeah.
[35:41] you guys should be really proud of what you've achieved really really proud and uh let's we're gonna book a part two but let's get to work today on where to from here so that way before you even sell and move you know exactly what it looks like
[35:57] Absolutely.
[35:57] Because what we could do today, knowing what it looks like, I'm confident would be a lot more expensive next year.
[36:05] So let's say, for example, we turn the six into four, to ten, add four.
[36:10] If we were to go buy four more properties today, if we didn't do that today and we do it in April next year, they will be substantially dearer just based on supply and demand.
[36:20] Whereas if we know that we're going to sell and move and we can go do that and we have that capacity...
[36:26] We can do that now at today's market value.
[36:28] Yes.
[36:28] Fantastic.
[36:29] Rather than wait.
[36:31] Yes.
[36:31] Oh, we'll wait until we move.
[36:32] Well, why?
[36:33] Yeah.
[36:34] So let's start that now.
[36:37] Let's start that today, this week.
[36:39] And then when are you moving?
[36:40] 8th of January.
[36:43] Okay.
[36:44] So we've got some time.
[36:45] Home on the market.
[36:46] Yes.
[36:46] Get that sold.
[36:47] Get relocated.
[36:49] Okay.
[36:49] Perfect timing.
[36:52] Yep.
[36:52] That's rock and roll.
[36:53] That's amazing.
[36:55] We, we out of, yeah, we can't believe it.
[36:59] We're still literally walking on clowns, like literally, because the family, they support you guys.
[37:05] It's one in one experience that was telling Greg with, you know, all the contacts that we have coming, the accountability that you guys give us, like, hey, you can do better, or that's what you should be doing.
[37:18] I think it's the secret sauce is the accountability, the relationship managers.
[37:23] It's not, you know, there's some amazing people in my industry, but the large facet just sells a product or service, which is great.
[37:29] Like they tell you how to get a tricky loan approved or get you a bit of extra money.
[37:33] But once the loan settles, it's kind of done.
[37:36] You know, you email them and say, oh, hey, can I change my pay?
[37:38] Like what we do is very unique.
[37:40] That's okay.
[37:41] People get upset in the industry, but it's very unique.
[37:44] Right.
[37:44] And we've been doing it for a long time.
[37:47] And it's also the ongoing learning experience.
[37:51] Yeah.
[37:52] Your focus is not to just give you this information and just rest.
[37:57] No.
[37:57] We're learning stuff every month.
[37:58] Yeah, we have to keep putting information.
[38:00] Keep letting you listen to the economists.
[38:02] Keep letting you listen to the accountants.
[38:04] Because it might take you three or four interactions with the economist or the financial planner or the account to actually pick up on that accounting opportunity
[38:14] We go, oh, maybe we should be exploring that with our tax or maybe we should look at that with our super.
[38:19] They're all things that actually take a bit of time to resonate.
[38:23] So that's why we have such a focus on that in the Facebook group and school, but even the MAMs and that to keep putting all the experts in front of you.
[38:32] And eventually the penny will drop.
[38:34] And then once you get that level of financial literacy, then you can take action on that next thing.
[38:40] You can't do everything at once.
[38:41] It's too overwhelming, right?
[38:42] Exactly.
[38:43] But once you've got that knowledge base and you understand it, then you can move to the next thing.
[38:47] So, yeah.
[38:48] I think those things, that accountability and that ongoing commitment to keep teaching you, they're sort of two of our secret sources, really.
[38:57] And that's how we came on board.
[39:00] That's exactly how everything started.
[39:03] Because a lot of people doing that concept of business, but we never thought like that.
[39:08] Like, okay, I'm doing that on my own?
[39:11] Yeah, where to from here?
[39:13] No one passed me.
[39:14] I understand how...
[39:16] tax and stuff now you're telling me, but how do I start it?
[39:21] What is the first step?
[39:22] And with Infinity, I felt that I had my help hold it.
[39:27] Like, okay, come, we'll be with you.
[39:29] You know, and we take into account really for all, you know, we can improve this or that.
[39:35] So it's education, it's like a university of kind of, you being teach in the same time that you acting.
[39:44] The more you understand, the more you'll be able to excel.
[39:46] Exactly.
[39:46] And confidently.
[39:47] Yes.
[39:48] You make informed, educated financial decisions, not just emotional ones.
[39:52] Oh, maybe, you know, it helps.
[39:54] So it gives you more confidence.
[39:56] Yes.
[39:57] Well, it's been a pleasure.
[39:58] Thank you for sharing.

[40:11] I'm looking forward to it.
