[0:00] Let's go back, time warp, 2022.
[0:02] Yeah.
[0:02] All right.
[0:04] What were you doing with your money?
[0:06] All sorts.
[0:07] We didn't even know what we were doing.
[0:08] We couldn't even track.
[0:09] Honestly, I couldn't even answer.
[0:11] We had things going left, right and centre.
[0:15] Just no concept of any savings at all.
[0:19] We were literally just pretty much living.
[0:21] Pay would come in.
[0:22] A week later, it's gone.
[0:23] It's just all the minimum payments.
[0:26] The card, the zip pay, the loan.
[0:29] Everything just gone.
[0:30] Once that went, I started using my laditry card to pay for things.
[0:33] So it's literally just like a spin cycle in your washing machine.
[0:36] Yeah, and it was just a cycle that we felt that we couldn't get out of.
[0:40] And I honestly didn't know if we ever would.
[0:42] Like, it took us for joining Infinity to have that structure for us to be able to make those, like, impactful changes.
[0:50] Money isn't rude of all evil.
[0:51] The fucking lack of it is.
[0:52] Not money.
[0:53] The lack of understanding money.
[0:55] When I put that into emphasis, when I realised that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I FDB in the fucking way.
[1:01] now watching the money man talk podcast with graham home you're fucking gone see ya
[1:12] Welcome back to another episode of the Money Mentor and the Changing Lives Financially podcast.
[1:17] We have two very special guests today.
[1:19] This is their first time, so I'll be a little bit gentle.
[1:22] Are we nervous?
[1:23] Slightly, yeah.
[1:24] A little bit.
[1:26] Well, don't be nervous.
[1:28] It's my first time as well.
[1:31] So why don't we welcome everyone to Dylan and Jade.
[1:33] Welcome.
[1:34] Thank you.
[1:34] Thank you.
[1:35] Thanks.
[1:35] How long have you been with Infinity?
[1:38] Be coming up two years around November this year.
[1:41] Okay.
[1:41] And who was the instigator?
[1:43] That was me.
[1:44] That was Dylan.
[1:45] Oh, okay.
[1:45] Okay.
[1:46] Why were you the instigator?
[1:48] I was just having to scroll on my Facebook and I just saw one of your cool posts.
[1:53] Yeah.
[1:54] And I watched it and once I saw it, I was all in.
[1:58] Yeah, I was all in.
[1:59] What is this bullshit?
[2:00] Well, he was pretty much sold straight away and then had to convince me because I was a bit more sceptical.
[2:07] But yeah, with Dylan, there was no, like he was straining.
[2:11] So yeah.
[2:12] But once he kind of explained it all to me, he won me over with it.
[2:15] And then we were both on board from there.
[2:17] So yeah.
[2:18] Yeah.
[2:18] Tell us a little bit, whoever wants to take control here, tell us a bit about yourselves, how old you are, roughly where you're from, any kids, any pets, all that sort of jazz.
[2:27] Yeah.
[2:28] So I'm originally from the UK, so I've lived in Australia for... Where's your accent?
[2:33] I know, it's gone.
[2:34] It's gone.
[2:34] People don't believe me.
[2:35] They probably thought it was so sexy back in the day.
[2:37] People don't believe me.
[2:38] They think I'm lying.
[2:39] I'm like, no, really I'm not.
[2:41] But yeah, eight years in Australia.
[2:43] So we... And Dylan's from Adelaide anyway, so all his family are in Adelaide.
[2:49] But my immediate family is all back in the UK.
[2:51] So we've got a...
[2:53] four year old she turned four last week Isla so and yeah since coming to Australia I've pretty much just lived in Adelaide we've obviously built our house there and we've got a Labradoodle as well called Bailey so he's three so as expensive as a child yep pretty much yep lucky we got him before we had Isla so yep okay but yeah so that's pretty much us yeah
[3:20] Okay.
[3:21] Now, pre-Infinity, obviously, doing scrolling, you're like, yeah, okay, cool, I've got to look at this.
[3:26] Tell us about your finances.
[3:28] Roughly, how much was the mortgage?
[3:30] Did you have car loans, credit loans, I don't know, after pay?
[3:34] What was the situation?
[3:35] Yeah, so we had a home loan, 385,000.
[3:38] Okay.
[3:39] And we were pretty pumped because we weren't in Australia for too long.
[3:44] I returned home and I wasn't home for too long and then we got our first house, built a nice house, not far from where I grew up as a young person.
[3:51] And we did all that before COVID too.
[3:53] So we kind of... And we got the Home Builder grant too, which is nice and handy.
[3:58] So yeah, we thought we were doing pretty well.
[4:00] But then it started off, you know, we were, you know, struggling, struggling financially.
[4:06] Okay.
[4:07] Okay.
[4:07] ended up picking up a second job.
[4:09] So once you got the loan, built the house, and then you had like bills and rent that started to get a bit tight?
[4:14] Yeah, absolutely.
[4:15] And stressful, like very stressful.
[4:17] Because we just had, with our home loan, it was two separate payments.
[4:22] So they weren't zinced to come out at the same time.
[4:25] So they had like the land loan and the building loan?
[4:28] Yeah, so like we'd have enough in for the first payment.
[4:30] And they didn't put that together for you at the end?
[4:32] No, no.
[4:33] It was separate.
[4:33] Arseholes.
[4:34] Just to make it difficult.
[4:35] F2B!
[4:37] So two separate, and it was so bad you said you got a second job, Dylan?
[4:40] I did get a second job and I still didn't feel like it helped at the time.
[4:44] It's helped now, but at the time because I wasn't structured very well and I had money going through different accounts, latitudes, latitude credit cards.
[4:53] So the mortgage was $385,000, one latitude credit card?
[4:58] We had one each.
[4:58] We had one each.
[4:59] A one each?
[5:00] Yeah.
[5:00] So how much did that total?
[5:02] Probably close to $15,000.
[5:03] I upped it towards the end to be able to come and do Infinity.
[5:08] Right, okay.
[5:08] But it was around the 15 grand between us.
[5:11] And then what about like personal loans, car loans, any of that?
[5:16] I had a car loan and Jade had a car loan too.
[5:18] So we had the full shebang, like normal everyday family.
[5:21] Home loan but split in two, your land loan, your build loan, which is shit because they're different days, like you said, to pay them.
[5:26] That caused me a lot of stress.
[5:27] Yeah.
[5:28] And then you've got two credit cards, 15 grand.
[5:32] Then you've got car loan each, very normal.
[5:36] How much were the car loans, do you remember?
[5:37] Mine was almost...
[5:38] I had about five grand left.
[5:39] Jay was over 20.
[5:40] 20, yeah.
[5:41] So that hurts.
[5:42] Yeah.
[5:43] And then any other loans or personal loans or anything?
[5:46] Because we got a new house.
[5:47] We, you know, use interest-free things.
[5:50] to get furniture for our new house because we literally moved in and had nothing.
[5:54] Right.
[5:54] Outdoor blinds would do the outdoor area.
[5:55] So you're going to do like the store card, right?
[5:57] Yeah.
[5:58] Okay, interest free for two years or something on the lounge.
[6:00] Just to be able to purchase.
[6:01] I don't use the money properly, Graeme.
[6:03] I got it with the right intentions, but then I used buying coffees with it.
[6:06] Oh, okay, okay.
[6:08] Well, I sent monies and yeah, that was for the bigger purchases for the house after pays.
[6:13] So this is a pretty, this is a real, I love this story because it's real, right?
[6:18] Young couple, first time.
[6:20] Yeah.
[6:20] Yay, great Australian dream.
[6:22] Yeah.
[6:22] Turns into almost great Australian rort.
[6:24] Yeah.
[6:25] You're loaded with car loans, credit cards each.
[6:28] interest-free finance that you start paying interest on, you're starting to use the card for coffee and food.
[6:33] Like, you're just consumed with interest expense.
[6:36] And you wonder where all your money goes.
[6:37] It's not the principal you borrowed.
[6:39] It's the interest on top that you're not aware of.
[6:41] And we had a young child too.
[6:42] Ola was...
[6:43] When we moved into the house, Ola was only about six months old.
[6:46] So she was still a baby, really.
[6:47] So you're on maternity leave still?
[6:49] Yeah.
[6:49] So I had about six months off work.
[6:51] So, yeah.
[6:52] Okay.
[6:53] So it was tight.
[6:55] How would you describe...
[6:57] day to day, I mean, it was enough to get a second job, right?
[7:00] But how would you describe day to day living six months into being in the house with all of those debts?
[7:08] We, yeah, I mean, we were just, I was a bit more, I mean, obviously me having six months off maternity leave, I was very mindful of what I was spending because I wasn't having that income.
[7:18] So I would try and, you know,
[7:22] kind of save where I can on things or be mindful of, oh, we can't go out three days in a row because we'd spend too much money.
[7:27] So, you know, we'd have to have some days at home just to kind of break it up a little bit.
[7:32] But yeah, it was really tight, yeah.
[7:35] So it was, yeah, such a stress.
[7:37] And obviously having a baby, they need so many things as well.
[7:41] Kids are expensive as it is.
[7:43] So, you know, there was things that, it wasn't even things that I would need, it would be things that I would need.
[7:47] So, yeah.
[7:48] Okay.
[7:49] So when did you join Infinity?
[7:52] So I would have done the two-day masterclass around October, November.
[7:57] It would have been.
[7:58] Last year.
[7:59] Yeah.
[7:59] The year before.
[8:00] Year before.
[8:01] 23.
[8:01] 23.
[8:02] Okay.
[8:03] 23.
[8:04] And a shitload of debts on top of the home loans.
[8:09] And expenses coming left and right.
[8:11] Yeah.
[8:11] So 385.
[8:12] So what's the loan balance today?
[8:14] So October, November, you said so.
[8:16] We're nearly coming on a two-year anniversary?
[8:18] Yes.
[8:18] Yeah.
[8:18] Okay.
[8:18] Very close to it.
[8:19] What's the home loan balance today?
[8:22] So around $313,000, $314,000.
[8:25] So about $70,000 gone in two years.
[8:28] Yep.
[8:29] $385,000, $315,000.
[8:31] Roughly, yep.
[8:32] And what about, that's huge.
[8:35] Massive.
[8:35] Well, we've got over $80,000 in the region at the moment.
[8:38] Oh, thank you.
[8:39] Excuse fucking me.
[8:40] Take your own horn.
[8:42] Well done.
[8:43] You've been very proud of it, clearly.
[8:45] Thank you.
[8:46] What about cars, interest-free loans, credit cards?
[8:50] What about all that?
[8:52] So that's all paid off now.
[8:53] Like car loan for me, I own the car.
[8:55] So like completely.
[8:57] So that was about 20 grand two years ago.
[8:59] Yeah.
[8:59] So if we go through the list here, so we paid off about 20 grand on the car.
[9:03] Credit cards cut up, done, finished.
[9:06] How much?
[9:07] Over 15.
[9:08] So 20 grand, 15, so 35.
[9:09] Yeah.
[9:11] Dylan actually got another car, so he got a more economical car.
[9:16] So sold his old car and now has his current car.
[9:20] We had the Hummer count as well.
[9:22] That was around over five grand.
[9:23] Okay, so $40,000, yeah.
[9:25] Yep, yep.
[9:26] And any other little bills like we had, you know, like afterpays, that type of little things here or there.
[9:31] A couple of grand.
[9:31] Yeah.
[9:32] A couple of, yeah.
[9:32] So $45,000.
[9:33] Because you get a set limit anyway.
[9:35] Yeah, it's around the $45,000.
[9:36] $40,000, $45,000 of bad debt gone.
[9:38] Yep.
[9:38] Yep.
[9:39] And $80,000 ahead of your mortgage, you're saying in regals.
[9:42] Yes, yep.
[9:43] He's fucking killing it.
[9:46] He's absolutely killing it.
[9:47] Thank you, yep.
[9:48] Now, have we had any life at all in the last two years since we started that?
[9:53] Because really, that's 45 grand plus the 80 you told me is in your redraw.
[9:57] Yep.
[9:57] That's $125,000 you guys have got ahead in two years.
[10:03] Yep.
[10:03] So, I don't know what the fuck you were doing with your money two years ago.
[10:06] We don't even know.
[10:07] I'm not going to make any excuses for you.
[10:09] So that's like you've really on the two incomes, young couple, you've got to head 60 grand a year.
[10:16] Yeah.
[10:16] Because you've obviously got the right structure, but you're saying you don't.
[10:19] I know what you're spending your money on.
[10:20] Yeah.
[10:21] But have you guys had any weekends away or any holidays in the last two years since we started?
[10:27] Yeah, we've had like weekends away.
[10:29] We've gone to places like within South Australia.
[10:33] We've had days out as families, more family days out together.
[10:36] Any holidays?
[10:38] We went to London, so Christmas last year.
[10:42] I went back home for Christmas and New Year, which was really lovely.
[10:45] So we went for a month.
[10:46] A month?
[10:47] Yeah.
[10:49] We went to Copenhagen and Denmark for a few nights while we were over there.
[10:51] So you're doing okay.
[10:52] Yeah.
[10:53] Like we had a week in Europe, you know, so it was pretty cruising.
[10:55] You're not even in six different ways.
[10:57] Yeah.
[10:57] So not only have you absolutely changed your financial position, you had 80 grand in redraw, cleared 45 grand of debt, you've smacked out 125 grand of principal, gone, and you've had a month in Europe.
[11:11] Yep.
[11:13] Where do I sign up?
[11:16] So for people, because we get so many young couples watching this like, I just pay more.
[11:23] I just this.
[11:24] And they really should.
[11:25] They keep sending messages and like, oh, we're struggling.
[11:27] It's like, watch the fucking free webinar.
[11:29] We're not going to talk to the thousands of messages.
[11:31] Watch the free shit.
[11:32] That's why we built it.
[11:33] Yeah.
[11:34] Yeah.
[11:35] What?
[11:35] Let's be honest.
[11:35] Let's go back.
[11:36] Time warp 2022.
[11:38] Yeah.
[11:38] All right.
[11:40] What were you doing with your money?
[11:42] All sorts.
[11:43] We didn't even know what we were doing.
[11:44] We couldn't even track.
[11:45] Honestly, I couldn't even answer.
[11:47] We had things going left, right and centre.
[11:51] Just no concept of any savings at all.
[11:54] We were literally just pretty much living.
[11:57] Pay would come in.
[11:58] a week later it's gone.
[11:59] Like there was, it was just all the minimum payments.
[12:02] Yeah.
[12:02] The card, the card, the zip pay, the loan, like just everything just gone.
[12:06] And once that went, I started using my laditory card to pay for things.
[12:09] So like to buy, we had no money.
[12:11] Groceries from water.
[12:12] Groceries, coffees, lunch.
[12:13] Yeah.
[12:13] So it's literally just like a spin cycle in a washing machine.
[12:16] Yeah.
[12:17] And it was just a cycle that we felt that we couldn't get out of.
[12:20] and I honestly didn't know if we ever would like it it took us for joining infinity to have that structure for us to be able to make those like impactful changes okay yeah now if you go back then honestly and be like yep were we spending money on takeaway and shit or were you blowing money as well as the minimum payments or was it just the minimum payments consuming you
[12:45] Blowing money and the minimum.
[12:46] Just having money scattered for everywhere didn't help.
[12:49] But we don't know what we were doing.
[12:51] We were just, if we want it, we buy it.
[12:53] There was no instinct.
[12:55] Okay, so you get paid and you go, cool, payday, we're going to the cafe.
[12:59] Yeah.
[12:59] Or we're going, buying, I don't know, breaking egg roll on the way to a cop.
[13:03] Yeah, new pair of shoes, like whatever, yeah.
[13:05] So just no sense of financial management.
[13:08] No.
[13:08] I brought a place actually with five of my latitude car.
[13:11] Dylan It's in the past It's in the past Yeah Yeah Okay So Today So we're So we're 80 grand ahead of the redraw Mm-hmm All Most of the debts are all gone and cleared Yeah Um What else have we done?
[13:29] Any investing?
[13:30] Anything at all?
[13:30] What are you saying?
[13:31] Yeah, so we were lucky enough to have some equity in our place that we built.
[13:37] And yeah, Infinity helped us get two investment properties in Melbourne, Victoria, which is exciting.
[13:43] Interesting.
[13:45] Looking forward to it.
[13:46] So we're waiting for those to finish over the next couple of years, right?
[13:48] Yeah.
[13:49] Yeah.
[13:50] Very close to finishing.
[13:53] What if we undid that and put you into a place on the Gold Coast?
[14:01] That sounds exciting.
[14:03] It's something we could have a chat about.
[14:05] Instead of the river view, the ocean view.
[14:07] Yeah.
[14:08] That sounds nice.
[14:10] Yeah.
[14:10] What do you reckon?
[14:11] I reckon that sounds... Yeah.
[14:12] There's a grenade for you.
[14:15] That's an interesting thought, yeah.
[14:17] Yeah, so we'll talk about that offline, but there's your surprise and grenade for today.
[14:21] Yeah.
[14:21] So maybe we don't...
[14:24] do the two in Victoria.
[14:26] Maybe we just do one in Queensland.
[14:28] Yeah.
[14:28] I don't know.
[14:30] Yeah.
[14:30] Potentially.
[14:31] A little grenade for you.
[14:32] That sounds good.
[14:32] I've whipped up a little strategy in the background.
[14:34] Okay.
[14:36] Excited to see.
[14:37] Yeah, we'll talk about that offline.
[14:38] Yeah.
[14:39] So, at the moment, we've got two investment properties being built.
[14:43] Yes.
[14:44] We're killing it on the redraw.
[14:46] Talk to me about...
[14:48] your day-to-day operation as far as a household now, before you would just buy shoes, buy food, whatever,
[14:56] what's your budget now how do you manage it break this down for people at home because i know hundreds of thousands millions of young couples are going to see this on spotify usually like wow that's just a normal young couple like us we felt exactly like we had sheets up as curtains when we bought our house we were we were putting interest-free fridges and washing machines so talk to us about today how do you run the finances today since we've helped you
[15:20] So now we've got obviously a weekly budget that we would stick to, which is obviously at a set amount.
[15:25] And even just in terms of like groceries, like we'll sit down at the end of the week and we'll plan out, you know, what we're going to have for the week.
[15:32] But we're also in terms of groceries, we're buying things that, you know, we can kind of bulk cook really in a way.
[15:39] So you're meal prepping?
[15:40] Meal prepping, yeah.
[15:41] And what's your weekly food fuel fund?
[15:44] 540.
[15:44] 540.
[15:45] 540 for the three of you and the Labrador, or four.
[15:48] Yeah, he's, yeah.
[15:49] Yeah.
[15:50] So, 540 a week.
[15:51] So, you're managing to do all the groceries, do the meal prep, petrol in the cars.
[15:55] Yeah.
[15:55] That's 540 a week.
[15:57] Yeah.
[15:57] And do you find that you can hit that pretty meticulously or does it vary a bit or?
[16:03] We're pretty good with it.
[16:04] So, I have tried other numbers.
[16:05] I've tried 600, 550.
[16:07] 540 seems to be working.
[16:09] That's the sweet spot for us.
[16:10] It seems to be working pretty good.
[16:11] Really?
[16:11] out an extra 10 20 bucks date night maybe yeah okay so fight so you've played with a bit gonna 600 and then there's money left over and like oh well we just blew money we didn't need yeah that's right yeah so 540 finding is like it gets you through the week week on week on week and you're not tempted to go crazy yeah correct okay fair call yeah how long have you how long have you been able to hit that sweet spot now because obviously over the last two years you've played with it a little bit
[16:37] We've probably been on that 540 for close to 12 months, I reckon.
[16:40] Yeah, pretty consistently.
[16:42] So you're pretty comfortable now in a groove.
[16:44] Yeah.
[16:44] And so all the bills, you just get coming in, that's all covered.
[16:47] You're 80 grand ahead of it.
[16:48] Yeah, no stress with that at all.
[16:49] So do you have to think about when a bill's due now?
[16:53] no that's that's that's we yeah like if everyone at home they're like shit my car rego's coming up i've got to pay my electric my money and they're worried about paying do you worry about bills at all no no they just come out automatically we know we've got the you know the money in there ready to go right if i need to go and buy some new tires i know there's money there for that too what happened two years ago two and a half years ago if you needed new tires today
[17:16] Probably a latitude card.
[17:17] Or we'd sell stuff.
[17:18] Honestly, we'd sell things to make the money up, like if we could.
[17:22] So if there was credit on the card, it was on the card.
[17:25] Yeah.
[17:25] If no credit on the card, we'd be selling what we can.
[17:27] All right, we're selling the PS5 and we're putting tyres on the car.
[17:30] Yeah.
[17:30] I'd hate to look at the statements of that latitude card, Graham.
[17:33] I had all sorts of interesting stuff on there.
[17:35] Yeah.
[17:37] Do you find in your friends and family group, is this pretty common for your age or uncommon, do you think?
[17:44] Well, I find a lot of people don't have budgets when I just general people that, you know.
[17:48] Do you even talk about money with friends?
[17:51] Yeah, we do.
[17:52] There is obviously people that are very like, they don't want to hear it or, you know, like they are very sceptical and they don't want to talk about money.
[18:00] Like that's not a conversation they want to have.
[18:02] And then there's people that have that curiosity.
[18:04] But even just talking to people, we've both noticed that lots of people yet don't have a budget and they couldn't tell you
[18:11] what they're spending their money on or where it's going.
[18:13] Like exactly how we were before infinity.
[18:16] Like everything's going in and out.
[18:17] That's really common within our like friend and family group.
[18:20] So it's pretty, pretty common today's society.
[18:22] People just like it's get paid.
[18:24] Yeah.
[18:24] Pay for it.
[18:25] Oh shit, there's nothing left.
[18:26] Instant gratification.
[18:27] Yeah.
[18:28] Correct.
[18:29] Yeah, absolutely.
[18:29] Okay.
[18:31] Talk to the people at home.
[18:33] So obviously you guys have had a drastic turnaround.
[18:37] It involved a couple of key things because young people, I know young people are going to flock to this, but like, shit, this is us, right?
[18:43] Like hundreds of thousands of people are going to see it.
[18:45] Talk to how hard was it?
[18:48] I mean, obviously you come and did the free webinar.
[18:51] Did you try any of the free webinar stuff yourself or you just straight into the masterclass?
[18:56] Oh, just straight in.
[18:56] You're like, nah, fuck, just, okay.
[18:57] I knew you guys could help us.
[18:59] Okay, so then...
[19:01] So obviously masterclass made sense.
[19:03] You've then applied to be a client.
[19:04] You've become approved.
[19:06] How hard was it when we sat down with you and went, right, what we're going to do is do this and you're going to have this much to, you tell us, oh, we think we need 600, 700.
[19:15] We need this to function each week.
[19:17] How hard was it for you guys to listen to that and to take that on board?
[19:21] Was it hard?
[19:22] Was it easy?
[19:24] It's a big change.
[19:24] You're just spending everything.
[19:26] But then again, I imagine if all of a sudden you're comfortable, right?
[19:30] Yeah, so we obviously, it wasn't as hard as what some people think.
[19:33] Once Infinity helped us get rid of all the other bills on the outside, that helped us a lot.
[19:39] Okay, so once the cards, once all that shit was gone, and it was just the home loan payment.
[19:44] You simplified it for us.
[19:45] Right, okay, so home loan's got to be covered.
[19:47] We need money each week to function.
[19:49] So how long did it take you guys to go, okay, 600, 600, 550.
[19:56] How long did it take you to go, oh shit, there's five grand in redraw?
[19:59] Not very long at all.
[20:01] Was it weeks, months?
[20:02] Less than months.
[20:03] I reckon I've seen your message of the DM grand.
[20:05] Yeah, I remember.
[20:06] Look at this.
[20:06] But I sold my Calais.
[20:07] Sure.
[20:09] You put that in there and all of a sudden, within less than 10 weeks, I had over 10 grand in the account.
[20:14] I'm like, jeez, I haven't seen that for a while.
[20:16] Mm-hmm.
[20:17] So does that become a bit motivating in a sick and twisted kind of way?
[20:20] Absolutely.
[20:20] I think I've got another message.
[20:21] I've said, Graham, I've got an addictive person.
[20:25] It was a lot more empowering and I think a lot more empowering and we just were full straight in with it really.
[20:35] Dylan, you obviously found Infinity.
[20:38] Who's driving?
[20:40] Are you equally pushing this together now?
[20:42] Is one of you managing the money?
[20:43] What's happening today for you guys?
[20:47] I would say we're pretty much on the same page with it all.
[20:50] Yep.
[20:50] But I would say Dylan is the one that will do all the calculations.
[20:53] Okay.
[20:53] So he's like the calculator man.
[20:55] He will be...
[20:55] So you're the minister for finance.
[20:57] Yeah.
[20:58] So he will be...
[20:59] He will do a lot more... Like we're both on the same journey.
[21:01] We're not doing it together.
[21:02] But he will calculate things all the time.
[21:05] So I'll see him... And you just take his word for it.
[21:06] Yeah.
[21:06] Cool.
[21:07] Sweet.
[21:07] I can see the balance.
[21:08] And I can see the results as well.
[21:10] So yeah.
[21:11] Yeah.
[21:11] Do you guys, how often now are you talking about money together versus, okay, well actually go back 2023 when you started, I'm assuming 2022, there was a lot of talk about shit.
[21:22] How do we pay this bill?
[21:24] Can that fit on the card?
[21:25] Yeah.
[21:25] Fuck.
[21:26] Like I'm assuming there was a lot of negative money talk.
[21:28] Absolutely.
[21:29] A lot of stress.
[21:30] Yeah.
[21:31] A lot of negativity.
[21:32] Yeah.
[21:32] How, I'm assuming when you talk about money now, it's more positive and it's different, but how often, cause you would have talked about money a lot, but in a negative sense.
[21:40] Yeah.
[21:41] I'm assuming that's positive.
[21:42] How often do you talk about money now?
[21:45] We pretty much talk about it, but like you said, it's in that kind of positive light.
[21:50] And we'll, I mean, we can see the results for ourselves, but we will still like check in with each other and have those conversations.
[21:55] And there isn't that level of stress there.
[21:58] And I think because we've changed our mindset and I think that was the biggest thing is shifting our mindset.
[22:03] So like it took a long time for me
[22:05] to get used to a budget because it's not something that I've ever done.
[22:08] So it was pretty much, I think, easier for Dylan to jump on the budget quicker than me.
[22:14] Okay.
[22:15] Because I would spend quite a lot more than he would.
[22:18] So I really had to kind of just personally kind of like... Reign yourself in.
[22:22] Yeah, rein myself in, have that self-control and, yeah, kind of change my mindset around it all.
[22:28] So that took for me a few months.
[22:30] But now I think...
[22:32] Yeah, as I say, we're on the journey together and we're kind of thinking the same and we're in that kind of growth mindset now.
[22:38] So as a couple.
[22:39] So when you say growth mindset, obviously a couple of years ago, it was like, fuck, how do we pay the bill?
[22:43] Rob Peter to pay Paul.
[22:44] Yeah.
[22:45] Would you talk to us about people listening at home to go, okay, so if I get the right advice, have the right structure and the right strategy...
[22:52] I can be 125 grand ahead.
[22:54] There might be 80 grand ahead.
[22:55] There might be 150.
[22:56] But you guys are statements, documented, verified, 125 grand of debts, gone.
[23:02] Yeah.
[23:02] Right?
[23:02] Yeah.
[23:03] So the next step now, you're talking about growth mindset.
[23:06] So you come from scarcity, right?
[23:07] Like, shit, how do we pay the bills?
[23:09] Putting shit on a latitude card to eat, petrol, whatever.
[23:13] Talk about this growth mindset you mentioned.
[23:15] What's that?
[23:16] Explain that to people at home.
[23:17] Because you've come from scarcity, we're fucked.
[23:19] Yeah.
[23:20] What do you mean by growth mindset?
[23:22] I think now we're having that structure in place, we can see the possibilities really.
[23:28] The world is your oyster.
[23:29] We're striving for goals.
[23:31] We're setting goals together.
[23:32] Goals were never a part of the picture before.
[23:35] So now we're kind of making those goals together as a family and looking to the future on how we can keep striving and improving our financial goals.
[23:45] So you've got, I guess, maybe much bigger financial goals now?
[23:48] Two years ago, I don't think we would.
[23:50] We wouldn't be in this position.
[23:51] Correct.
[23:51] Yeah.
[23:52] Okay.
[23:52] No way.
[23:52] Because I remember when you sent me a message, you're like, dude, like going back to the UK, taking it, like we never would have been able to afford to do this.
[24:00] Like it was pretty emotional.
[24:01] It was a dream, really.
[24:01] I mean, the message going, fuck, this is pretty cool, right?
[24:03] Like it was a distant dream before, but like it was just amazing that we was able to, you know, sort our finances out and make that a reality.
[24:10] And like for me to go home after eight years was huge.
[24:13] Like...
[24:14] I mean, you know, I've had family come out to Australia, but just to see people that haven't been able to travel out, you know, my grandma and things like that, I just have that quality family time was, yeah, it was beautiful.
[24:26] So what would you say to any other young couple that are tuning into this at home that are struggling right now and they've got the cards, they've got the cars, they've got the interest-free finance, your position two, three years ago.
[24:38] What are some tips, not Graham, because I mean I can do a lot, right?
[24:41] Yeah.
[24:41] Jane, what would you tell the people listening at home to look at?
[24:46] You need to try and have a bit of discipline.
[24:48] No instant gratification straight away, just borrowing your money.
[24:52] I thought working two jobs was just going to fix the problems, but it didn't.
[24:56] So I've learned that you need to have a good budget.
[25:00] That doesn't mean you can't do things that you want to do, but it's in a plan.
[25:04] Work with your partner, so you're all on the same page.
[25:07] Teamwork is a big thing too.
[25:08] You need to work as a team.
[25:10] Because if you're not on the same page, and that was an analogy that you shared, I think, back on the webinar, where if you're not the kind of horse analogy where you've got one person pulling it and leading it, and then you've got the other person just falling behind, you're not going to get anywhere if you're not doing it together.
[25:27] It's like I said, people share bodily fluids, but they don't share bank accounts.
[25:30] There's a couple of things you shared during that thing, Graham.
[25:33] I actually printed them out and stuck them on a wall for two.
[25:35] I think the horse when I talk about the Clydesdales I used to talk about one Clydesdale can pull X amount of thousand pounds or kilograms right two Clydesdale put five of them together trained communicating trained
[25:50] they pull like a gazoo i'd have to dig it out i used to use that years ago yeah yeah it's a great i've got a picture of that on our so when she get ready she knew we'd be on it's actually it's an oldie bit of goodie i don't use it anymore but it's like yeah if you get one clidesdale or two but if you get a couple and they're all trained and they're all pulling in the same direction it absolutely it's like 10 times the amount of weight they can pull so yeah it's a really good analogy actually
[26:14] What about how, because it is confronting, right?
[26:18] If you know you're using interest-free cards for groceries and fuel and, you know, you're slipping anything anywhere, pretty confronting.
[26:27] How important would it be for them to sit down and just get a highlighter and go through the statements?
[26:31] Super important.
[26:32] Otherwise, you're just not going to get out of your situation.
[26:36] I find that companies are quite happy to give you credit, even when you probably shouldn't have credit.
[26:40] And we're probably in that position too.
[26:41] Yeah, just because you get it doesn't mean you should have it.
[26:43] That's right.
[26:44] Yeah.
[26:44] And that's the danger.
[26:46] They don't really care at the end of the day.
[26:47] Yeah, correct.
[26:48] Yeah.
[26:49] Tell me, if we go back to that time and you were literally just slipping things into the card...
[26:55] Do people really deserve to go, oh, we've had such a big week.
[27:00] Let's order pizza tonight and put it on the card.
[27:04] Or, oh, you know what?
[27:06] We deserve it.
[27:06] We've had a big month.
[27:07] Let's go out for dinner or a wafer.
[27:10] Do they really fucking deserve to continue to put their family in that position?
[27:13] You've been there.
[27:13] It's a terrible idea.
[27:14] Yeah, no.
[27:15] But you do do it, right?
[27:16] You guys did it.
[27:17] Yeah, of course.
[27:17] Two years in, I know how bad that was and I can see why we were in that position.
[27:22] Yeah.
[27:22] But now I think, like, having the structure we have, we, you know, you can still do all the fun things and you're not, you know, you're not restricted.
[27:30] You can't, you can still get your takeaways or you can still go out for your... You can still go away to the weekend.
[27:34] Correct, yeah.
[27:34] It doesn't have to be miserable, like... No.
[27:37] But Monday to Sunday... Yeah.
[27:39] The normal week is pretty normal, right?
[27:41] Yeah.
[27:41] Yeah, very correct, yeah.
[27:43] So you guys are on 540, okay.
[27:44] So you don't worry about bills anymore.
[27:46] You've got two properties that are being built for you right now.
[27:49] Yeah.
[27:49] You've cleared all the other... Oh, pfft.
[27:52] fuck did you think you would have been here two years ago no way but i mean we were looking back at our how our finances used to be like when we actually sat down and like dylan said went through statements and things and and highlighted things like it was actually embarrassing like i was so embarrassed and even to talk to people about money it was just embarrassing because we knew what financial position we were in and we just it was just uncomfortable like i'm
[28:15] Whereas now we're, you know, we're happy on the journey that we're on and we're making progress and we're seeing the results.
[28:21] We just want to share that with everyone.
[28:23] Yeah.
[28:23] But not everyone's prepared to listen to it.
[28:25] Correct.
[28:25] You still get people that are sceptical.
[28:27] It's part of it.
[28:28] But I knew you meant well.
[28:29] When, as soon as I saw some of your content, I wasn't a sceptic.
[28:32] I was all in.
[28:32] Yeah.
[28:33] As soon as I could get everything sorted, I was all in.
[28:35] You see, I share, the team share for me when you're doing that.
[28:38] But like, you get these messages.
[28:40] I shared one the other day and it's like,
[28:42] Hey, I'm like 80 grand ahead of my loan.
[28:44] Someone last night, they're like, hey, we're $15,000 ahead of our loan in 1.5 months from your free webinar.
[28:51] You know what I think's funny?
[28:52] If people just fucking listened and actually tried, but they listened and go, ah, scam brought too good to be true.
[28:59] Australia is so fucked for this tall poppy scam.
[29:02] It's free.
[29:03] It's a fucking free webinar.
[29:06] Now what you do with the information is,
[29:08] It's up to you.
[29:08] It determines the outcome.
[29:09] Yeah.
[29:10] I get messages from people.
[29:11] I share them.
[29:11] I black out the names.
[29:12] I could ask them to show the names.
[29:14] They're real DMs.
[29:14] You can see them.
[29:16] I'm 80 grand ahead.
[29:17] I'm 15 grand ahead.
[29:18] I'm $300 ahead.
[29:19] Like, these are real people that got something for fucking free that's life-changing and valuable.
[29:26] Yeah.
[29:26] But there's people out there.
[29:28] And it's like, oh, well, enjoy being broke for the rest of your life, you fucking idiot.
[29:32] Best thing I did is just take your word for it and just go on the ride and look two years later.
[29:36] Numbers don't lie.
[29:37] And that's the key, right?
[29:39] You look at your statements before, you look at your statements now, it's pretty clean, it's very structured.
[29:44] The interesting thing is you guys can go do whatever the fuck you want.
[29:48] You can leave this session now and go out for an amazing lunch.
[29:51] I mean, you're 80 grand ahead of your loan, you've cleared 120. Who fucking cares?
[29:56] That's true.
[29:56] You can do what you want.
[29:58] It's so true.
[29:58] You can splurge.
[29:59] It's true.
[30:00] But you're not.
[30:01] We don't.
[30:01] We don't.
[30:02] Why?
[30:02] We still got that.
[30:03] Because you used to.
[30:04] Yeah, we did.
[30:05] We used to.
[30:06] So when you used to, when I say, oh, takeaway, junk, whatever, you know, new PlayStation, but you used to splurge a bit that you could afford to.
[30:14] But now you can actually afford to, you could go today down to the marina here on the Gold Coast and have a fucking fancy lunch and a bottle of champagne and 10 cocktails.
[30:24] You could go spend a fortune.
[30:25] Why don't you?
[30:27] We've learned more about discipline and the long goal.
[30:30] And we're in a great position now, but we know following, you know, infinity's advice for the next, you know, little while we can get even better opportunities.
[30:38] And we also like don't want to, you know, like you said before, like we don't want to, we're in a team, we don't want to let each other down.
[30:44] Like we want to be...
[30:44] So you're holding each other accountable.
[30:46] We want to be, yeah, we do.
[30:47] Correct.
[30:48] Yeah, we hold each other accountable most weeks.
[30:50] So where to from here?
[30:51] We've got the two investment properties underway.
[30:54] What's the goal?
[30:55] What's the big picture goal and dreams here?
[30:57] Number one would be to pay off a home loan, which we will... Yeah.
[31:01] I'll make that happen.
[31:02] Me and Jay will make that happen in the next few years.
[31:03] That's a non-negotiable.
[31:04] And what's the date for that?
[31:06] Well, I'm 35 and a half, so I'm having that planned.
[31:09] If I just keep working the way we are, that will be gone before I'm 40.
[31:13] And what's home worth today?
[31:15] Well, it's around $380,000, but Kat just told us downstairs it's actually around $900,000.
[31:20] The home?
[31:20] Yeah.
[31:21] Where we live.
[31:21] And there's about $80,000.
[31:23] So how much did you pay?
[31:24] You owed $385,000 when you first got it.
[31:26] Yeah.
[31:27] But it's worth how much today?
[31:29] Kat just told me $900,000.
[31:30] $900,000.
[31:31] Yeah.
[31:31] Okay, $900,000.
[31:32] But we're down to $310,000 or $50,000.
[31:34] Yeah, early threes.
[31:35] Early threes.
[31:36] Okay.
[31:37] So you've got a shitload of equity.
[31:40] You want to pay the house off in the next five years, you said?
[31:44] Potentially.
[31:44] If we don't sell any investment properties down the track, they'll speed that up.
[31:47] But if we continue how we are now, it'll be about four or five years.
[31:50] So it would have been about a six, seven-year journey to clear that 385.
[31:54] Yeah.
[31:55] But really, with all that other debt we had, it was over 400.
[31:59] Yeah.
[32:00] Correct.
[32:00] Yeah.
[32:01] Yeah.
[32:01] So that's wild.
[32:03] Yeah, it's... And we were also talking as well just before, like, what would it look like not having the home loan anymore?
[32:11] Like, it's so normal for us to have it.
[32:13] So to not have it, it would be like, wow, you know?
[32:17] Like, what do you do now?
[32:19] So...
[32:19] So what's the...
[32:20] So a big picture goal would be home loan gone in the next four or five years?
[32:24] Yeah, correct, yeah.
[32:25] A couple of investments.
[32:26] Let's just assume we just keep them, whatever, we don't sell them.
[32:28] Yeah.
[32:29] Any other goals?
[32:30] Yeah.
[32:31] We want to get married, so that will be something that we will do next year.
[32:36] Yeah.
[32:37] Congratulations.
[32:38] Thank you.
[32:39] So, we've been engaged for a little while, so definitely time to...
[32:42] It's time.
[32:42] Time for the wedding, yeah.
[32:44] Okay.
[32:45] And then we do want to extend our family down the track as well, but ideally wedding first and then maybe another addition to our family.
[32:54] Very good.
[32:55] Very good.
[32:56] So, a few more years after that.
[32:58] So for young, whether young or old doesn't matter, but I know a lot of young people are going to relate to this.
[33:05] I want to dig a bit deeper.
[33:08] What inside you, Dylan, was like, besides just seeing it on social media, what was the, we are fucked?
[33:14] What was the trigger?
[33:15] Because I tend to find people don't come to me when they think they're doing so amazingly well.
[33:20] And even though they think they are, I fucking can destroy their position to make it better, right?
[33:24] When they do come.
[33:25] What was the pain point?
[33:27] Or there was lots of things, you know, like not being able to, you know, put petrol in my car.
[33:33] But there was, you know, all there's...
[33:34] So it was bad?
[33:35] Yeah.
[33:36] It was bad.
[33:36] There was one time when I was, you know, a few times I'd be working and that split loan would come out.
[33:41] I'd be on shift and I'd have no money and I knew the other part of the loan would be coming out.
[33:47] And I'll be checking my bank because it wasn't coming out of my, you know, where the pay was coming in.
[33:52] I had to move the money across, but the money wasn't there to be moved across.
[33:54] So I'm thinking, I don't know what's going to happen first.
[33:57] So you were living in a constant state of financial stress.
[33:59] Constantly.
[34:00] Literally for food, for fuel, for the payments.
[34:04] Yeah.
[34:05] So that was the trigger.
[34:06] It was fucking bad.
[34:08] And then we obviously had the little one on the side.
[34:09] I said, well, you know, I have to do something about it.
[34:11] Yeah.
[34:12] We've got to, yeah.
[34:13] We wanted to, you know, and that's, I think, our motivator now is our family and having Isla.
[34:19] That's kind of what drives us as well, is, like, we want to give her opportunities and we want to show her the correct way to do things and kind of almost help set her up as well for her future.
[34:29] Yeah.
[34:30] Because we didn't have that.
[34:31] So growing up, whereas we want to give that to Isla.
[34:33] So like I, growing up, I watched my mum struggle with money all the time.
[34:38] Like, you know, she was a single parent, me and my sister, like we had to go without things because she didn't have enough money.
[34:44] So, and she was in a job that probably didn't pay very well, but you know, we just kind of may do.
[34:49] So that's another reason that we wanted to change our life and be in a different position to what we kind of grew up in.
[34:56] You should be bloody proud of yourselves, guys.
[34:58] Thank you.
[34:58] Thank you.
[34:59] When was the last time you remember stressing about money?
[35:03] Before I made Affinity.
[35:04] It was, yeah, years ago now.
[35:05] It seems like a distant memory.
[35:07] Yeah, it does.
[35:08] It does.
[35:08] Yeah, years ago.
[35:09] Okay.
[35:10] But it was bad?
[35:12] Really bad, yeah.
[35:14] Okay.
[35:14] Because I only see the positive messages now.
[35:16] Hey, we're doing this.
[35:17] And hey, go to the UK.
[35:18] You kind of forget about all the negative stuff.
[35:20] Every couple of months, it was like, hey, gee.
[35:22] And I'm like, wow, this is cool.
[35:24] Yeah, he'll tell me his message.
[35:25] Yeah.
[35:26] But obviously, I wasn't around for all the bad times.
[35:29] Yeah.
[35:29] Yeah.
[35:30] You helped us get out of them situations.
[35:32] Absolutely.
[35:33] You offered your knowledge and expertise and we followed.
[35:36] Yeah.
[35:37] Yeah.
[35:38] Talk to me about, obviously our business is a bit unique.
[35:42] So people might be thinking, how do you manage all of this?
[35:44] And so we're a bit unique where we give you that full-time relationship manager and financial coach, right?
[35:49] Yeah.
[35:50] How does that help or guide or hinder or how annoying is it having somebody there looking over your shoulder day to day?
[35:57] we love it or yeah i really enjoy it we both do and i think having that person that you can relate to but also it's motivating because that person will then again help keep you accountable um and they're always there for a chat you know a check-in um it's nice to have that extra additional support so you don't feel like you're just doing it by yourselves like you've got that person there in your corner to to help you and yeah kind of guide you as well so
[36:23] Do you think that that's probably a bit of the secret sauce as well?
[36:26] Yeah, absolutely.
[36:27] If we set this up and went, right, here you go, like most finance companies.
[36:31] Yeah.
[36:32] When, here you go, guys, here's your new structure.
[36:33] Yeah.
[36:34] Do you think you're probably more likely to revert back to what you were doing and failing?
[36:37] Oh, 100%.
[36:37] Yeah, we would have.
[36:39] It's so easy to go back into bad habits.
[36:41] Yeah, I figured out years ago that's the secret.
[36:42] That's that ongoing, yeah, it costs us money, but that ongoing person to talk to you every week or two or each month even...
[36:49] And you just know they're watching, you know.
[36:52] You know, they know if you're out of budget, they know how well you can be going.
[36:57] Yeah.
[36:57] So, yeah.
[36:58] So, if you have had, you know, a couple of tough weeks or they're the ones that can kind of bring you back, help you put you back on track.
[37:05] And same if you aren't following it or, you know, you're not doing the right thing, they're also very quick to pull you up on that as well.
[37:12] Like, you know, what's going on?
[37:13] Like...
[37:15] We just saw Dean downstairs and Dean was like, I had a look at, you know, your bank statements and the last few months we've been smashing.
[37:22] I was like, yeah, I have.
[37:23] We're on that consistent train, which is good.
[37:26] So we've had a bit of a dip in February.
[37:28] I'm assuming when you first bought the land and built the house and I'm assuming you didn't have that interaction with your broker or the bank.
[37:35] No.
[37:36] It was just done.
[37:37] It was just like a family friend broker.
[37:39] Here's a number.
[37:39] Call this guy.
[37:40] He's retired now.
[37:42] Okay.
[37:44] So, yeah, he got us all approved and we were lucky.
[37:48] We saved up a little bit of money.
[37:50] We saved about 50, 60 grand that we put originally onto our house, which was obviously...
[37:54] So you did save...
[37:55] You had great financial habits.
[37:57] Yeah.
[37:57] And then for some reason you got the house and just it all went to shit.
[38:01] We just splurged.
[38:02] Like we got the house and it was just a massive splurge on everything.
[38:06] Because we just wanted to.
[38:06] It's safe to say most of us know how to do this.
[38:09] Yeah.
[38:09] We just choose not to.
[38:11] Yeah.
[38:12] Or we can do it in spurts but on our own, oh, we deserve it.
[38:16] We're pretty bad at doing it on our own.
[38:18] yeah yeah okay well you guys should be really bloody proud of yourselves and we'll do another part to this to let everyone know what we do with the portfolio and the structure and the plans which we'll talk about off air excited to hear about that yep um but i wonder if you guys have got any questions for me
[38:37] Well, I've been thinking, Jay, you know, you can see that we're pretty eager type of people.
[38:40] We've done everything you said for the last couple of years.
[38:44] Where do you think Jade and I could get to if we kept following your advice?
[38:47] And actually, you know, a little while.
[38:48] I'm only 35 now.
[38:49] Jade's a little bit younger than me.
[38:50] Yeah, look, I mean, if you look at people that have been working with me since we started in 2012, you've got people with 20 properties, 23, 16, 8, 9, you know, it depends on the circumstances.
[39:02] Yeah.
[39:03] A few things will play into that.
[39:06] factor into that, i.e.
[39:07] second child.
[39:08] Yeah.
[39:09] Maternity, time off work, reduced income.
[39:12] Obviously we're doing a little to not increase expenses.
[39:14] So we're not taking on new credit cards or new toys and that sort of stuff.
[39:19] So if we don't increase our expenses, if we keep our expenses stable and we keep our income where it is and we don't have more expenses, we're fine.
[39:28] But we've got a wedding coming up, it's gonna cost money and potentially another baby.
[39:33] So that's gonna cost money.
[39:35] So it's really about factoring those things in because they're the life things.
[39:38] They're important.
[39:39] Start a family.
[39:40] Increase the family.
[39:42] Get married.
[39:43] But those are things that do slow us down.
[39:45] Because obviously, let's just pick it up.
[39:47] Say you spend 50 grand on a wedding.
[39:49] I don't know.
[39:49] Could be heaps more these days.
[39:51] I don't know.
[39:52] Well, that 50 grand in the top tax bracket, you've got to go and earn 100 to pay half of it in tax to spend 50 on the wedding.
[39:59] It doesn't mean don't spend it.
[40:01] But then you've got to earn 100 to get 50 to just go pay for the wedding.
[40:06] Yeah.
[40:06] And then that income's gone.
[40:08] Plus you've got to live that year.
[40:10] So it's very, very hard to save net income.
[40:16] What I mean is you get your income, you pay your tax, and then in your net income, you've got to live, pay your bills, pay your expenses, your groceries.
[40:24] There usually isn't much left, which you guys have proven there is if you're structured, right?
[40:29] Yeah.
[40:29] So you guys are getting ahead over 60 grand a year, give or take.
[40:32] Yeah.
[40:32] So we could say, right, if we, to model that, if we spent $60,000 on a wedding and a honeymoon, then we would have lost a year's worth of progress.
[40:42] Yeah.
[40:42] Does that make sense?
[40:43] It does.
[40:43] It makes sense, yeah.
[40:44] So it's not too difficult to model, if that's fair.
[40:47] But then if we're to have a wedding...
[40:49] and to have another child, and to have six or 12 months out of work, and a reduced income, then we might be, say, two to three years behind.
[40:58] Because we might lose 60 grand for the wedding.
[41:01] We might not get ahead 60 grand that year as well.
[41:05] So it's just working out the math of it for you guys.
[41:10] But again, getting married and having children is a positive speed bump.
[41:15] It's where to from there.
[41:17] and how sharp and aggressive you are from there.
[41:19] But then you have childcare fees, school, and those sorts of things as well.
[41:22] All the added things.
[41:23] A bit double because obviously we got one and, you know, that's childcare fees aren't cheap.
[41:27] Yeah, so you don't want to delay these things for age and health and all that sort of stuff, but you just want to be as structured as you can.
[41:34] Like Bec and I haven't started a family because we're super structured.
[41:37] yeah right make sure medically we're okay do tests or yeah sweet but we're super super structured yeah before we're about to start trying for a family yeah because we just got some things that we wanted to do and that's just our decision yeah because most people unexpected or have two three four kids at a young age and they struggle for the rest of their lives yeah we're the opposite we're like super structured on it
[41:59] No one's right, no one's wrong.
[42:01] People go, oh, that's stupid.
[42:02] Well, hey, our kids will have every opportunity in the world.
[42:05] Correct.
[42:06] Yeah, I'll be a bit of an older parent, but I don't think I had the maturity 10 years ago to actually raise a child the way I would now.
[42:16] So I feel like, this is my personal opinion and people around me, that I'd be a much better father now than I would have been 10 years ago or 20 years ago.
[42:26] So those things, but they're easy to model, if that's fair.
[42:29] So we can model and be like, well, this will do this and that will do that.
[42:32] And then so, but those things will slow us down.
[42:35] But they're positive speed humps.
[42:38] But obviously once we have two, three dependent children, the banks crunch us for the next 15, 18 years.
[42:44] It really stunts that wealth creation journey.
[42:47] Then our wealth creation tool is to pay that debt down and get that equity up in the home so that then as income increases or the children get older, then we can start investing again.
[42:57] Sure.
[42:58] But yeah, we'll be able to expand as much as our income, less our expenses allow us.
[43:05] Right.
[43:05] Okay.
[43:05] And any life events.
[43:06] Okay.
[43:07] Yeah.
[43:07] Cool.
[43:08] Sky's the limit.
[43:09] Yes.
[43:09] But we just need to be really strategic, which is what we're going to talk about off air.
[43:12] Yeah.
[43:13] There were a couple of things come up that I'm like, ooh, this could be really good.
[43:16] Cha-ching.
[43:17] Like, let's go here instead of here.
[43:19] There's a few little moving parts.
[43:21] Nice.
[43:21] Yeah.
[43:21] And things are always evolving.
[43:23] Yeah.
[43:23] So when they're evolving, it's like, hey, what if we did this?
[43:26] Mm.
[43:27] We thought this was, this is better.
[43:28] What if we did this now?
[43:30] Mm.
[43:30] Yeah.
[43:30] So those sorts of things, which we'll chat about off air.
[43:32] And then we'll do a part two of this.
[43:34] Nice.
[43:34] Sounds good.
[43:35] Excited.
[43:36] Yeah.
[43:36] Yeah.
[43:36] You should be really proud of yourselves, guys.
[43:38] Thank you so much.
[43:39] Yeah, we are.
[43:41] And sharing your story, like putting yourselves out there for people to go, is really powerful.
[43:47] So thank you because if there's one other young couple or any couple that hear this and be like, shit, that's us, there's hope, right?
[43:54] And you turned it around like that.
[43:57] So you should be really bloody proud of yourselves.
[43:59] Thank you.
[44:00] Cheers.
[44:00] Thank you.
[44:00] Well done, guys.
[44:01] Thanks.
[44:02] You're fucking gone.
[44:03] See ya.
