In this episode of "The Money Mentor," we speak to Dennis and Mary, who have flown in from their home in Western Australia's Pilbara to join Rachel for a chat about their remarkable journey over the past year. Relative newcomers to the Infinity community, in just a few months Dennis and Mary have turned their financial fortunes around. Before Infinity, they were working and earning well but could not seem to get ahead. They were in their 50s with $22,000 in credit card debt, an oppressive 30-year mortgage on the family home and were constantly worried about the future. They knew property was the answer, but when they sought advice, they were offered nothing but roadblocks. Then they found Infinity, and for the first time, someone showed them it could be done. With a clear plan in place, they cleared their debt, restructured their mortgage, and now have two investment properties, and the future looks bright. Dennis and Mary share their story of hope, and be warned, it gets emotional. Their story is proof that with the right advice, dedication, and faith in the process, anything is possible. [0:00] We've done $100,000 off the home loan in one year.
[0:04] Yeah.
[0:05] We've got a couple of investment properties.
[0:07] With your home combined, you're sitting on nearly $2.3, $2.4 million in property portfolio.
[0:13] Did you think it was possible?
[0:14] No.
[0:14] You've been told no before at every angle.
[0:16] Yeah.
[0:17] I've got goosebumps because one of the goals was having three investment properties.
[0:22] I'm going to get emotional.
[0:25] Sorry.
[0:27] No, you are totally fine.
[0:30] You're just going to make me start.
[0:34] One of the goals that I wrote down was having three investment properties.
[0:39] One each for each child.
[0:42] We've got two, you know, and what you just said then really resonated home.
[0:50] Just know that we're on the right track, that we've made the right decision.
[0:54] Thank you for sharing that.
[0:55] That's going to resonate with a lot of people.
[0:57] And I think what I've always loved about your journey is that you always were questioning things before infinity.
[1:03] Like there's got to be something more.
[1:04] We want to set the kids up.
[1:05] We just don't know how.
[1:06] We just need help.
[1:07] And there's a lot of wrong information out there that you were getting a lot of no's.
[1:11] Right.
[1:12] But then you eventually led yourself to here.
[1:15] All you needed was the plan and you could execute it.
[1:18] And you did it.
[1:19] Yeah.
[1:21] Money isn't the root of all evil, the fucking lack of it is.
[1:23] Not money, the lack of understanding money.
[1:26] When I put that into emphasis, when I realised that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I FDB in the fucking way.
[1:32] You are now watching the Money Mentor podcast.
[1:38] 14 years in remote Western Australia, Dennis and Mary gave up proximity to family, to community, to the ordinary life, because they were building towards something better.
[1:49] They just didn't have a plan.
[1:52] Then came the moment that stopped them.
[1:55] The boys were sharing the room, so it was like, no, no, they're getting bigger now, so we need to upsize.
[2:01] A new mortgage, a 30-year term, and the realisation that if nothing changed, they'd still be paying it off well into their 80s.
[2:10] Good income, nothing to show for it.
[2:14] The credit card sitting at 22,000.
[2:17] Every pay cycle spent before it started.
[2:22] Infinity gave them something 14 years of hard work hadn't.
[2:25] A structure built around what they actually wanted.
[2:29] And for the first time, they were building it together.
[2:32] We worked better together.
[2:33] So much stronger, so much faster.
[2:35] We knew that nothing could stop us, nothing could hold us back.
[2:38] The Prado sold and the equity redeployed.
[2:42] The credit card cleared.
[2:43] That credit card hurt my soul.
[2:45] Yeah, we heard you.
[2:46] I bought out the credit card.
[2:47] We chopped it up.
[2:49] The mortgage restructured and two investment properties under construction.
[2:54] And now, a dream that goes beyond just them to leave something that lasts.
[2:58] One of the goals that I've ever done was having three investment properties, one each for each child.
[3:04] Dennis and Mary didn't work this hard to end up with nothing to show for it.
[3:08] This is how they made it count.
[3:12] Welcome back to the Money Mentor Podcast, where we have our latest episode of changing lives financially.
[3:17] Today, we have the beautiful couple, Dennis and Mary.
[3:20] Hi, guys.
[3:21] How are we doing?
[3:22] Hello.
[3:22] Hi.
[3:22] How are we feeling?
[3:24] A bit nervous?
[3:26] You'll be absolutely fine.
[3:27] We've had a big trip to get here from Pilbara, WA.
[3:31] We're going to start off with you guys telling us all about yourselves, your family, your journey before infinity, the house, everything.
[3:38] Tell us everything before you met infinity.
[3:40] Yeah.
[3:42] Cool.
[3:42] You go.
[3:43] Yeah, so we made the big trip off before heading to the Pilbara.
[3:49] We started off in Melbourne.
[3:52] Worked in construction.
[3:54] So it was probably the first time I've ever heard of, like with apartment buildings and property and stuff like that.
[4:01] So we made the move from New Zealand just to make like anyone would migrate to another country.
[4:08] So the first trip was New Zealand to Melbourne.
[4:10] New Zealand to Melbourne.
[4:11] Yep.
[4:12] And then, yeah, we were there for...
[4:14] Eight months.
[4:15] Yeah.
[4:16] Eight for a little bit.
[4:17] Yeah.
[4:17] Eight months there.
[4:19] And then we had an opportunity to come up to the Pilbara because it was just, yeah, we were just chasing, chasing the money.
[4:26] We wanted to, yeah, it was all for just chasing that.
[4:30] So doing it for work.
[4:31] For work.
[4:31] Yeah.
[4:31] Yeah.
[4:32] Opportunities.
[4:33] Opportunities.
[4:34] Yeah.
[4:35] It was only supposed to be for two years.
[4:37] That was original plan.
[4:38] That's how it always starts.
[4:39] Two years and then what, 15 years later?
[4:41] Yeah.
[4:43] Still there.
[4:44] Still there.
[4:45] We ended up purchasing our first property, our home, because it was... Cheaper to buy than to rent.
[4:54] To rent, yeah.
[4:55] Yeah, the rent was just crazy.
[4:57] Crazy.
[4:59] And that's because of the infrastructure that's in that area.
[5:02] Yeah.
[5:03] Yeah.
[5:04] Supply and demand.
[5:05] Yeah, there weren't many housing.
[5:07] And if there were any, you think you were considered lucky to get, you know, a rental property to be able to rent there, to live there.
[5:15] And that was your first home in Australia that you purchased?
[5:18] Yes.
[5:18] Yeah.
[5:19] And how much did we purchase for?
[5:20] It was a pretty small house.
[5:23] Yeah.
[5:24] It was $195,000.
[5:26] Yeah.
[5:27] So we thought, wow, that's pretty good.
[5:29] That's a pretty good deal.
[5:30] We got help to get into that property in regards to like for a deposit, stuff like that.
[5:36] So we're quite lucky.
[5:38] And then a couple of years after that, three years, we had to get, we had to upsize because our three kids were getting older and bigger.
[5:48] Yeah.
[5:48] Yeah.
[5:50] So we did, yeah, so we're in a three-bedroom, three-by-one, and then so we decided, oh, let's look for a. Three-by-two.
[5:56] Sorry, three-by-two.
[5:57] Because we've got three kids.
[5:59] Yes, three kids.
[6:00] The boys were sharing a room, so it's like, no, no, they're getting bigger now, so we need to upsize.
[6:05] So we ended up getting another property.
[6:08] We sold that one and then got into the considering.
[6:11] We wanted to keep it, but our broker said that we couldn't take.
[6:15] Yeah, we thought we could keep that existing place and get another one and rent that.
[6:20] Oh, so you almost made that silly mistake of keeping the old home to buy the new one.
[6:24] Yeah.
[6:24] And we're thinking, I'm sure we can do it.
[6:27] And then we got told no.
[6:29] No.
[6:29] What was the thought process behind wanting to keep the old home?
[6:32] Because it's so common, right?
[6:34] Yeah.
[6:34] That people want to hold on to the old home so then upsize without realising they're loading themselves with more bad debt than they need to.
[6:41] So what is the thought process behind that?
[6:43] Because we always wanted investments.
[6:45] We thought that was a strategy.
[6:46] Yeah.
[6:47] There wasn't really much thought process.
[6:49] It was more like, okay, let's keep this one.
[6:51] It just means two instead of one.
[6:52] Yeah.
[6:53] You know, we can afford it.
[6:54] We'll make the incomes.
[6:55] I'm sure the incomes there.
[6:58] We were able to tidy up a little bit of debt, but we still had the bad, sorry, bad debt.
[7:02] Bad debt there.
[7:03] So, and we're thinking, oh, if we can get into this property, we can do property.
[7:08] But, yeah, it didn't work out.
[7:12] But at the same time, I was looking at traditional businesses.
[7:16] So, yeah.
[7:18] I knew there had to be a side hustle from what we were doing.
[7:22] So I was looking at a few things.
[7:25] I was looking at a laundromat.
[7:27] Oh, yeah.
[7:28] Franchise businesses.
[7:29] Franchises.
[7:31] So the laundromat thought that would be the bee's knees.
[7:35] And then I was looking, it was more myself looking at other, I think it was a freight business.
[7:44] Yeah.
[7:44] Yeah.
[7:45] Then I could run from the side, but the cost of that was just, yeah, it was pretty expensive.
[7:52] And then there's, like, I could think of other things like clothing or just something on the side I could do.
[7:58] You're quite ambitious.
[7:59] You wanted to do something more.
[8:01] We knew we had to have a side hustle in that there, but it just wasn't, it just meant our time meant it was just exchanging more of our time into making that additional income.
[8:15] And wanted to do property at the same time.
[8:18] Knew that property would probably be the way to do it because, but the strategy as far as how to structure that.
[8:23] You had no idea.
[8:24] We didn't know yet.
[8:25] No idea.
[8:25] We needed help.
[8:27] So the way we came across Infinity was we were in the home now, our current home now, and we're in the house.
[8:36] I was looking at actually someone else online.
[8:38] So I listened to him, but then all of a sudden, and Finney just popped in.
[8:41] I was, I didn't know how.
[8:42] On the socials.
[8:43] On the socials.
[8:44] I wasn't very big on social media.
[8:47] I always left that to Mary to handle that side of it.
[8:50] So yeah, then G just kept popping up.
[8:53] And I was considering this other one to go for.
[8:57] But the thing that really struck me with G was just his honesty and just the directness.
[9:02] Plus it helped because the other guy was wearing like a suit and tie and everything.
[9:06] And we had this guy with a t-shirt and, you know, and his mouth.
[9:09] Jeans on and a hat.
[9:10] Yeah, the way he was talking, I was like, whoa, this guy's, you know, straight down and narrow.
[9:15] And then just over time, just started listening to him.
[9:19] And I actually did the webinar by myself.
[9:21] Okay.
[9:22] Yep.
[9:24] because at that time I'd taken up on myself to look after the finances.
[9:29] So it's just one of you, you just left it.
[9:31] All to Dennis to do, yep.
[9:33] But I took that, we agreed that, look, I'll take it on because at the time the kids were younger and she had enough on her plate.
[9:40] So I thought, look, I'll take it up.
[9:41] Yeah, you carry different loads, right?
[9:43] Yeah.
[9:44] So, yeah, and that was the plan to start looking at other things because on a couple of occasions Mirrored would ask,
[9:50] okay, what are we doing?
[9:52] You know, where are we at?
[9:54] And I'll just say anything just to get her off my back because knowing that, you know, as long as the bills were paid.
[10:00] Mortgages were paid.
[10:01] Mortgages were paid.
[10:03] Utilities were paid in advance.
[10:05] like we were months in advance and I thought, man, we're doing it.
[10:08] You're doing so good.
[10:09] We're doing so good while our money's sitting with them.
[10:12] Yeah.
[10:13] Be like, oh, you learn interest is calculated daily.
[10:16] And we're actually losing on saving interest.
[10:20] And that's why it was, and that's what sort of, a couple of things from the webinar that G was pointing out that, you know, why is your money sitting with someone else?
[10:28] Don't you think it's, his questions, his capacity to ask questions
[10:34] That you were already thinking.
[10:35] That you were already thinking and you were actually finding yourself answering those thinking, oh, crap.
[10:42] Oh, yeah.
[10:43] Okay.
[10:43] But then it wasn't until you verbally said it that you've actually heard yourself saying it and be like, oh, shit, this guy's onto something.
[10:50] Yeah.
[10:51] And it's like, it doesn't matter how many books you read, how many other podcasts you listen to, he hit it pretty much straight in between the eyes and...
[11:00] I was like, oh, I better do something here.
[11:04] And a couple of factors were involved in there.
[11:05] Like the kids were getting older slowly.
[11:08] One by one, the kids were starting as the kids were getting older.
[11:11] They were finishing high school.
[11:12] So again, I was still looking at the side hustle thinking, but always coming back to property.
[11:17] Yeah.
[11:18] Yeah.
[11:19] And then G started sounding so good each and every time I started watching him.
[11:25] But what made me go through that webinar, and I had to do it by myself because I thought, no, let's, I'll suss it out first.
[11:32] Because I knew Mary trusted me that whatever we were going to decide to do, it was the interest of the family for us to get better.
[11:38] Yeah.
[11:40] um, moving forward.
[11:43] So yeah, I watched the webinar and my gosh, just a lot of the questions and the structure that he had gone through, um, a few of the key areas in that were like the money back guarantee.
[11:55] Um, I wanted to test that out.
[11:57] Um, um,
[11:58] Because you're just at webinar stage right now.
[12:00] You haven't even got to masterclass yet.
[12:02] No, not even the masterclass yet.
[12:03] Oh, that's going to be fun.
[12:04] I'll totally work with you.
[12:06] So, and then just some of the strategies that he went with.
[12:11] When I was looking at a lot of the other, because there was a few of them, they all started popping up.
[12:18] So you try this.
[12:20] I even tried to, I was looking at being a buyer's agent as well.
[12:23] I was thinking, how can you be a buyer's agent when you're living remotely?
[12:26] Yeah.
[12:27] I'm not just supposed to like show them housing.
[12:29] But I didn't know too much what was involved in buyer's agent.
[12:31] So, but I knew I had to do a side hustle.
[12:34] So real estate, oh yeah, that'd be my foot into the property side of it.
[12:38] Get the inside.
[12:39] No.
[12:40] But then one of the, I got interviewed over the phone.
[12:44] And the buyer's agent, and I thought I'd test them out, and I said, okay, I think they used the person that they were representing as being successful.
[12:51] I said, okay, how successful are they?
[12:54] How many properties do they have?
[12:55] What's the value of their total properties that they have in place?
[12:59] They couldn't really answer me.
[13:01] So that was important to you to know how they were doing and what they were trying to sell you on.
[13:05] It was really important.
[13:06] Yeah.
[13:07] I always felt that if you're going to be looking –
[13:10] for someone that you want to be and, you know, want to move ahead or you want to be at, you need to, they need to be at that level, but they weren't.
[13:17] So that buyer's agent idea went out the door for me, basically because I judged it on who I was talking to at that time.
[13:26] But going through the webinar, that was probably one of the first two things, two, three things that I really, that really struck me out of,
[13:32] G's presentation was that he went through all his properties, everything, the value.
[13:38] And I was like, great.
[13:39] He's ticked that box for me.
[13:40] Yeah.
[13:41] Yeah.
[13:42] Shows you the addresses, values.
[13:43] Shows you the addresses, values and that, that, that, that was great.
[13:46] That, that really hit home for me.
[13:49] Um, another point in there was the posture that he had and used it like he would give you the tips.
[13:55] And I love the way he said, oh, you can do whatever you want with it.
[13:57] I don't give a fuck.
[13:59] I don't give a, sorry, I don't give a damn.
[14:01] Oh, you can do it.
[14:03] It's totally fine.
[14:05] You can do whatever you want with it.
[14:06] You know, I don't care if you're going to do it.
[14:07] I don't need you.
[14:08] You need me.
[14:10] Again, I was like, okay, cool.
[14:12] That's one thing.
[14:13] Another one that took off the box there.
[14:15] And then the last part was, oh, and if you're married, you're going to do it with your partner.
[14:19] I was like, cool.
[14:20] You're like, oh, I haven't ticked that box yet.
[14:23] No, but I thought, yeah, no, fair enough.
[14:25] But I'll get her on board.
[14:26] But I'll tick that as well.
[14:27] So straight after the webinar, I booked the masterclass.
[14:31] We booked it and I roped Mary into it.
[14:33] I said, look, this is what we're going to be doing.
[14:36] I want you to go.
[14:37] You're going to spend an entire weekend with this guy.
[14:39] You have no idea who he is.
[14:41] But I gave her some advice notice.
[14:44] And I just said, look, can we book those two days out?
[14:49] I've had a look at this thing.
[14:50] I think this is what we need to do.
[14:52] But I need you to go through it.
[14:53] Have a listen to it.
[14:54] If you're not comfortable with the idea, then forget about it.
[14:57] We won't do it.
[14:58] Because I felt that.
[15:01] I worked better with her support.
[15:03] Of course, yeah.
[15:04] And this was for us moving forward.
[15:06] So we needed to be on the same page because I didn't think it would be right for us to
[15:11] for me to try something where if she wasn't on board with it, it just wasn't fair.
[15:17] And how did you feel in that moment when he came to you with that?
[15:20] Well, he actually would.
[15:22] What he'd do is he'd go to bed early because he started really early.
[15:27] So he'd put the podcasts on TV.
[15:29] So I'd be on my phone.
[15:30] So it was like subliminal messages.
[15:32] And I'm like, this sounds really good.
[15:35] And he did it for like a whole week.
[15:37] And I'm like, yeah.
[15:41] But it all made sense with all the podcasts.
[15:43] I can't remember their names, but we could relate to each couple's story.
[15:48] Just the real stories of the clients.
[15:50] Yeah.
[15:51] Yeah.
[15:51] So I was like.
[15:52] It's funny because a lot of people start with the podcast before they even think about the webinar.
[15:55] Yeah.
[15:56] And he did tell me to watch the webinar, but I don't know, for some reason.
[15:59] I was like, just watch it.
[16:00] And I knew you should stop it.
[16:01] So I just played it.
[16:02] I went, goodnight.
[16:04] Goodnight.
[16:06] but I'd always you know be listening to it and I knew this was it I knew it was going to be for us but I just needed to make sure Mary was on board yeah because we work together we work better together yeah so much stronger so much faster you know it was just we knew that nothing could stop us nothing could hold us back we were just
[16:26] Probably just a few things I had to tweak because I'd been doing the finances on my own.
[16:30] It just meant sort of relearning stuff.
[16:33] Oh, okay, this is what we're doing.
[16:35] Because it was before that, it was like, no, just make sure everything was done out of the way that we didn't want for us to worry about.
[16:42] So we can just carry on in regards to like paying bills and anything that was coming up, anything that had to do with school, with the kids schooling.
[16:50] It was like, how much was it?
[16:51] Great, done, pay, out of the way.
[16:54] Let's just move on.
[16:56] That was our structure before infinity.
[16:58] So you just paid for things when it came up.
[17:00] You just had no real structure on any of that side of things, yeah.
[17:06] Yeah, we just, yeah, Bill came to us, we paid it.
[17:10] That was it, no questions asked.
[17:11] Then carry it on.
[17:12] And if we had to do trips, we had our credit card, we'd be like, oh, let's pay some of the credit card.
[17:18] Yeah, that credit card hurt my soul when I first saw that.
[17:23] Yeah, we heard you.
[17:25] Get rid of that credit card.
[17:27] Oh, my gosh.
[17:28] It was so good getting rid of that.
[17:29] Yeah.
[17:29] I think that was our first meeting with you.
[17:31] Yeah.
[17:32] After we'd registered, I think.
[17:34] You're very subtle.
[17:35] You didn't like say.
[17:37] Yeah, we were like, after our meeting with you, we were like, I think she wants us to get rid of that credit card.
[17:43] Do you think she wants us to get rid of the credit card?
[17:46] Yeah.
[17:46] Yeah.
[17:48] Because we were thinking like pay it over like six months or something and we were like, but we can pay it off now.
[17:54] Yeah.
[17:55] Yeah.
[17:55] Yeah.
[17:56] That was an immediate for me.
[17:57] I needed that gone.
[17:59] Yeah.
[17:59] Yeah.
[17:59] No, you did say that.
[18:01] I need that gone, guys.
[18:02] As soon as you can, we're like, when you mean now or later on?
[18:05] Should we?
[18:06] So we're discussing it.
[18:07] And then we just thought after we'd finished with you on that first meeting, it was like, no, let's get rid of it.
[18:11] So I pulled out the credit card and then we chopped it up.
[18:15] I think we sent your photo.
[18:16] Yeah.
[18:17] Texted you a photo.
[18:17] It said gone.
[18:18] It was like literally right after the meeting too.
[18:20] I was stoked.
[18:21] Yeah.
[18:21] Like, you know, this is what we've been asking for and let's do it.
[18:26] They're telling us this is what to do.
[18:28] We'll do it.
[18:28] You know, why are we prolonging it?
[18:31] Why?
[18:31] They're telling us do this.
[18:34] Let's do it.
[18:35] So that's the mentality we've carried on from then.
[18:38] Yeah.
[18:38] Yeah.
[18:39] So talk to me, talk me through the masterclass since we finally did the webinar.
[18:42] We've got Mary on board now.
[18:44] Then we finally did a masterclass.
[18:46] So talk me through that weekend and how you felt during that weekend.
[18:49] Oh, we were so excited.
[18:50] We were excited.
[18:51] Didn't know what to, yeah, I didn't know what to expect.
[18:54] I was excited because I knew Mary would get it.
[18:57] Yep.
[18:57] Um, yeah.
[18:58] She's a lot smarter than me.
[18:59] She'll pick up things real quick.
[19:00] And I knew straight away it'll be like, no, no, let's go through it.
[19:04] There was some of the stuff that he had in the webinar through the masterclass was similar, which I remembered.
[19:09] I could see Mary's, like, just her body language was like, started getting, you know, she was getting more and more into it each time.
[19:17] I was really excited.
[19:19] Then afterwards she'd be, like, asking questions.
[19:20] Hey, what about this one?
[19:21] I'm like, what?
[19:22] I was like, Dennis, you've done good.
[19:23] You've done so good.
[19:25] Actually, yeah, I did.
[19:26] I was like, why did it take you so long to decide for us to do this?
[19:29] I was like, oh, really?
[19:31] You've wasted so much time.
[19:33] Yeah, no, but it was, yeah, straight after the master class.
[19:38] What did we do?
[19:39] Yeah, we couldn't sleep on Saturday night.
[19:43] It was expensive, but the money was there.
[19:48] It was just how we prioritised it.
[19:50] Or structured our money.
[19:51] Yeah, structured our money.
[19:52] Well, it depends how you look at it too, right?
[19:53] Because if we show you the numbers and we're like, you'll pay more off your home loan in two to three months than you've done an entire year and you make back your investment within one to two months, it's basically free.
[20:05] Yeah.
[20:05] Yeah.
[20:06] Yeah.
[20:06] Yeah.
[20:08] So we break those numbers down for you.
[20:09] And so what did it feel like doing the out-of-deck calculator yourselves on your numbers?
[20:14] Because we see, you know, show you lots of examples of, you know, a $750,000 loan or a $500,000 loan.
[20:19] But what did it feel like doing your own numbers on the Masterclass?
[20:21] It was so good.
[20:23] It blew us away, eh?
[20:24] I think Mary got more excited than I did.
[20:27] Basically because I'd seen it in a webinar and one of the amounts was, you know, was that $500,000, which is what our loan was currently then.
[20:33] Yeah.
[20:33] Yeah.
[20:34] When I saw G work through the numbers, I went, oh, that makes sense.
[20:38] I said, hell yes, 30 from to seven, between seven to ten.
[20:42] And then when we saw Mary go through that exercise in the masterclass, she was so excited and I was thinking, yes, yes.
[20:50] Let's do it.
[20:51] And then, yeah, so we, it was, yeah, no, it was so good.
[20:55] The rapid repay, that was so good.
[20:58] Because you guys were quite loaded with debt when we first met you.
[21:01] Very much.
[21:01] Just over 80% loan to value ratio on the home.
[21:04] We had the credit card.
[21:05] We had the really expensive car loan as well.
[21:07] Yeah.
[21:08] So there was a lot of restructuring for you guys when you first came on board.
[21:11] Yeah.
[21:11] Yeah.
[21:12] And we didn't quite have a deposit on investment property at that time, but we put that plan in place.
[21:18] So talk to me about that plan and how you guys felt in that first meeting, hearing it.
[21:22] Well, we actually thought we had to pay off our mortgage first before we could get investment property.
[21:27] And then we had our meeting with you and then you said, give us a plan.
[21:32] And we were like, Oh my God, we can do this.
[21:34] And so, and when you said, how do you feel about selling the Prada?
[21:38] We were like, yep, let's sell it.
[21:40] Yeah.
[21:41] Yeah.
[21:41] That's what I thought you'd fight me on the most.
[21:43] I was like, they live regional.
[21:44] They're not going to want to downsize the big car.
[21:47] And I was like, but I can see the benefit it's going to give them.
[21:50] Dennis did ask me after the masterclass.
[21:52] He was like, how would you feel if they said to sell the Prado?
[21:55] Because we didn't really have any assets.
[21:57] Yeah.
[21:57] We didn't spend money.
[21:59] We spent all our money on travel.
[22:00] Travel.
[22:01] Yeah.
[22:01] Food.
[22:02] Travel was a lot.
[22:02] Alcohol.
[22:03] Yeah.
[22:05] So you did ask me, how would you feel if Infinity asked us to get rid of the Prado?
[22:12] We were like, let's do it.
[22:15] It's just the car we can always get our dream car later.
[22:18] Yep.
[22:19] Yeah.
[22:20] But now it's like car's a car.
[22:22] Yeah.
[22:23] Because you're seeing now what those decisions have done for you moving forward because you have now been able to build the equity in the home through rapid repay, few restructures, getting rid of the credit card, downsizing the car.
[22:37] So now get your first property in your personal name within the first 12 months of working with us.
[22:42] Yeah.
[22:42] How does that feel?
[22:44] So excited.
[22:45] It was so good.
[22:45] It was so quick because it was straight after our meeting with you, then we got the follow-up emails after that.
[22:51] It was like, congratulations for your first property.
[22:53] Well, like, huh?
[22:55] Because prior to, like, after the webinar, prior to the masterclass,
[23:02] There was a few steps, there was a few challenges that G put you through.
[23:04] You say, look, challenge you.
[23:05] If you want to try to test this out, but still go to whoever you're working with.
[23:10] Yeah, your team.
[23:12] Don't execute this off your own bat.
[23:14] Please seek advice who you're working with.
[23:17] I said, oh, that makes sense.
[23:18] So I went back to our broker.
[23:21] And I said, hey, we've been in the property for almost two years.
[23:25] I said to him, Hey, I'm looking at restructuring my loan started using the magic words for the, I didn't.
[23:31] Yeah.
[23:32] Um, let's, can we look at restructuring our loan?
[23:35] And he goes, oh, okay.
[23:37] Um, he just asked, well, why would you want to do that?
[23:39] I said, oh, because we want to get into investment.
[23:41] We want to start investing in properties.
[23:44] And then he goes, no, um.
[23:47] Well, sorry, he just, he said, oh, let's have a look at your figures.
[23:52] And then he goes, he came back and said, he came back and he said, oh, no, it's still a bit early for you guys.
[23:58] And I was like, oh, I thought it would have been a piece of cake.
[24:02] But that sort of got me thinking, oh, probably we're not ready for it.
[24:06] But did he tell you how?
[24:08] It's easy to get to that conclusion that you're not ready for it, but did he tell you how to get to the next step?
[24:13] No.
[24:13] No.
[24:14] To no plan?
[24:15] No.
[24:15] No.
[24:16] And that's what I thought would happen is that he'll go through, oh, look, no, you're not ready yet, but if we look at doing this, this, like it's structured, like how Infinity does it, like they'll,
[24:28] I was like, okay, we'll go back to the drawing board.
[24:32] And then that even during the masterclass listening then was like, no, let's do this.
[24:38] I said, stuff the burger.
[24:40] So fuck that guy.
[24:42] Let's just do this.
[24:43] Let's just do this.
[24:44] And then lo and behold, it wasn't even straight after our first meeting with you.
[24:49] And then it was a couple of weeks after that.
[24:51] We had two properties signed up.
[24:53] And I was like, hold on.
[24:55] How did that happen?
[24:56] I said to me, look at this.
[24:57] Look at this.
[24:57] We've got these properties.
[25:00] So one was to the super and then throw equity.
[25:03] And it's super fun.
[25:04] Oh, my goodness.
[25:04] There's a good story for that one, too.
[25:06] We were told not to consider.
[25:12] So previously by financial planner, you were told, no.
[25:15] Yeah, by then.
[25:16] He goes, yeah, no.
[25:17] Oh, it's a bit.
[25:19] Our accountant, eh?
[25:21] We inquired with our accountant to get into property with our super.
[25:25] And he was like, oh, it's really complicated.
[25:28] Too much paperwork.
[25:28] It'll cost you a lot of money.
[25:30] There's a lot of paperwork.
[25:31] So we just left it.
[25:33] So he's just heard you because of paperwork?
[25:35] Yes.
[25:36] He goes, oh, it's a bit long.
[25:37] It's a bit of a long process.
[25:39] So, no, it was really encouraging.
[25:40] Yeah.
[25:42] You just get no's from all angles, really.
[25:45] Like, so, okay, let's work again.
[25:47] So how do we, where do we go from here?
[25:48] So it was, so if we just took the no or that, you know, that advice from most people, we wouldn't have done anything.
[25:56] We would have been really deflated, right?
[25:57] Because did the accountant even offer a plan of like, here's what you could do with your super?
[26:02] No.
[26:02] So there was still no follow-up?
[26:04] No.
[26:04] Wow.
[26:05] No, not after that.
[26:06] And that's what I mean, like, when we signed up,
[26:09] with infinity and sat with you and you gave us that structure from then it was just like it was a blur it was like the phone kept pinging sign this sign that and i'm like
[26:20] That's all we had to do, just sign things.
[26:21] Just sign it, yeah.
[26:23] It was easy, straightforward.
[26:24] I didn't bother reading it because it was like far out.
[26:27] We're trusting these guys.
[26:29] We're trusting infinity to, you know, set us up.
[26:32] That's what we're asking for, you know, help us.
[26:34] And you're telling us to do this, do that.
[26:37] We'll do it.
[26:38] It's just do it, put it in place.
[26:40] We didn't, yeah, I don't know.
[26:42] We didn't really sit down and read through the fine print.
[26:44] We're like, no, we trust these guys.
[26:47] We were desperate, I think.
[26:49] Yeah.
[26:50] At our age, we were like, we need to do something.
[26:52] Yeah.
[26:53] Yeah.
[26:53] We run it out of time.
[26:55] Yeah.
[26:55] We didn't have the time to sort of trial out something, trial and error.
[27:00] It just wasn't there for us.
[27:02] We were like, no, we wanted to leave where we were currently and have something to show for it.
[27:06] Yeah.
[27:07] Yeah.
[27:08] And that's why we kept on, onto our, like, wanting to buy property, buy our first home.
[27:13] And we didn't want to let that go until we had something to prove, to show that, you know, all our hard years of working and blood, sweat and tears of living away in a remote area, you know, away from family.
[27:23] Because you're quite far from your family because you've got Tongan heritage.
[27:27] You chose the furthest side of Australia to be from your family.
[27:32] Yeah.
[27:32] Yeah.
[27:33] Yeah.
[27:34] And we chose that.
[27:35] Yeah.
[27:35] Because we knew.
[27:36] And.
[27:37] Um, you know, we, we wanted to, to be in a better place.
[27:41] Yeah.
[27:41] We just, we knew we could work with it.
[27:43] You know, we had really strong work ethics, you know, there wasn't an issue with that.
[27:47] We just needed someone to show us how.
[27:50] Yeah.
[27:51] We were hungry.
[27:52] We were ready.
[27:53] We just needed.
[27:54] Just didn't know how to do it.
[27:55] The goals were there.
[27:56] And I had some of these silly goals, just stuff that would just give you goosebumps.
[28:03] Be like, really?
[28:04] Yeah, why not?
[28:04] Let's just think of it.
[28:06] Let's just think of, you know, let's dream about it.
[28:08] Yeah.
[28:09] Yeah, the goals are always there.
[28:11] It was just the plan we needed in place for us to be put in front of us and just be told, look, follow us.
[28:17] Yep.
[28:18] We were waiting for someone.
[28:19] We needed someone to hold our hands and walk us through that process there.
[28:24] And that's what we've been given.
[28:25] Yeah, we've just been so excited.
[28:29] Can't wait.
[28:30] Yeah.

[28:45] When Changi asked us if we could, you know, you want to do a podcast, would you consider doing a podcast?
[28:51] We were like, huh?
[28:54] Us?
[28:55] We're not worthy.
[28:57] We've only just joined.
[28:58] Yeah, you've only been around for a year, but you've had an incredible year because what did the home loan start at?
[29:04] Five.
[29:05] Like 5.35?
[29:06] Yeah.
[29:07] Yeah.
[29:08] And where are we now?
[29:12] 430 something.
[29:14] We've done $100,000 off the home loan in one year.
[29:18] Yeah.
[29:19] That's huge.
[29:21] Yeah.
[29:21] Do you remember what your numbers were on the masterclass of what you were doing in one year prior?
[29:27] It's all a blur now, Rachel.
[29:29] You're like, we look at what we're doing now.
[29:32] But if we look at the example.
[29:33] Sorry, our repayments were because it was one day, it was one month that we looked at our mortgage repayments and I said to Mary, look at this, we've only paid...
[29:43] We've paid what 200 bucks off the, off the principal and this is in the month.
[29:47] Yeah.
[29:47] And the rest of the five grand of it was, was interest.
[29:49] And we were like, Oh, this is not going to work.
[29:52] Cause you were so highly leveraged against your home as well.
[29:55] You had quite a high interest rate too, which obviously we teach you on the masterclass.
[29:59] It's not always about interest rate with the right structure and budgeting plan, but when you're living just minimum repayment to minimum repayment, that interest is huge on a loan like that.
[30:08] And we didn't fix it at first because we understood that if we left it at variant, we could like up the ante, pay more than what was.
[30:17] So I understood probably one thing from it was do not fix it, just have it at variant, and then we can just pay it down quicker.
[30:25] And then it was just, yeah, going from there.
[30:29] That was another reason why we needed to look at it because we were like, man, this is just, we're working hard for our money to go somewhere else.
[30:37] Yeah.
[30:37] Somewhere.
[30:37] Yeah.
[30:38] Yeah.
[30:40] Fuck the banks.
[30:43] No, that was just, yeah, that really, yeah, that was so good after that masterclass.
[30:49] Putting everything in process, selling the Prado.
[30:54] We sat the kids down and we said, look, we're going to have a budget.
[30:58] How'd they take it?
[30:59] They were like, we took them out to the marina and we had a barbecue and said to the kids, we've joined this financial strategist company.
[31:08] They're going to help us, you know, pay our mortgage off and pay
[31:14] And I said, we've got a food budget that we're going to keep too.
[31:18] Because we were so used to like coming home.
[31:20] You guys were big spenders.
[31:22] Don't remind us.
[31:25] And the kids were like, the boys were like, are we okay?
[31:29] Do you not have any money?
[31:31] And we're like, we have money.
[31:32] That's the issue.
[31:33] We're just not spending it wisely.
[31:35] Yeah.
[31:35] Yeah.
[31:36] But, yeah, they've been really impressed.
[31:38] And our daughter asked why we were coming here and we told her and she was like, wow.
[31:44] So they were quite inquisitive.
[31:46] That's good.
[31:46] Yeah.
[31:46] Yeah.
[31:47] And encouraged as well.
[31:49] That's really, really good.
[31:50] And how have they found now the process now that they're a year in?
[31:54] What's their perception and their thoughts on it now?
[31:57] Do you share the successes with them?
[31:58] We have it in detail, hey.
[32:01] What we sort of drip feeding it to them because we felt that unless we, for example, like for this trip here to the podcast, our youngest was asking, Oh, where are you going?
[32:12] Where are you going?
[32:13] Then it was like, okay, great.
[32:15] If we can explain something like that, it'll sink in more.
[32:19] So it was just, we're just picking out our times and went to open up to them and let them know.
[32:25] But they do know that we're on this journey.
[32:27] We're involving them now.
[32:29] Yeah, we feel that they're ready now in regards to just the information that we can give them.
[32:35] I guess just talking to them a little bit more often of what we are doing and why we're doing it.
[32:41] But I think it's just more the why we're doing it.
[32:44] It's for them.
[32:47] Yeah, we're always saying it's for them.
[32:48] You know, it's for you guys.
[32:50] You guys won't understand it now, but...
[32:53] you'll get it sooner or later.
[32:54] So just, and I think they trust us that, yeah, that we're on a good thing.
[33:00] Yeah.
[33:00] Have they felt like they've missed out at all with the budgeting?
[33:05] I don't think so.
[33:07] No, we eat.
[33:08] If not better, then there's always food in the house.
[33:14] Yeah.
[33:14] We just don't go out as often.
[33:16] Yeah.
[33:17] Yeah, we don't go out as often.
[33:20] Having home-cooked meals.
[33:21] I mean, it's probably, it used to be almost every second day that would go takeaways.
[33:26] Now it's like every, probably once a month.
[33:30] Hardly.
[33:30] Yeah, probably once a month if we're lucky.
[33:33] But if anything, like we'd cook a home-cooked meal, and I think the kids would appreciate that more than just takeaways.
[33:42] But, no, I don't think they've missed out more.
[33:44] If anything, they'll be, yeah, I think they'll be more appreciative of what mum and dad are doing.
[33:49] Yeah.
[33:50] And how have you guys found the budgeting?
[33:51] Because that was a big change for you guys at the beginning.
[33:54] I had to have a pretty stern conversation in our first meeting about the spending.
[34:00] Yeah.
[34:01] I think we knew that.
[34:02] We just needed someone to tell us.
[34:05] Yeah.
[34:06] Which is.
[34:06] It was, yeah.
[34:08] It was up there.
[34:09] Yeah, we knew we were spending a lot.
[34:12] Yeah, the budgeting.
[34:14] More than we needed to.
[34:15] Yeah, we knew we had to pull it in.
[34:19] Just how much was obviously working through with you and what to do there.
[34:25] Um, yeah.
[34:26] And how have you found the relationship with your relationship manager?
[34:29] Cause you know, I set the plan, but he's the one, you know, making sure it's all actually happening and you're following through and reporting back to me.
[34:36] Oh, Chang is really good.
[34:38] No, he's awesome.
[34:41] He's really relatable.
[34:43] Yeah.
[34:44] So good having someone there that you can bounce things off.
[34:47] Yeah.
[34:48] And who's in your corner batting for you.
[34:51] Yeah, he's your biggest supporter, right?
[34:52] Yeah.
[34:52] He wants these goals just as much as you guys do.
[34:55] You know, I think just having someone there, just sort of have something like a, you know, a soundboard.
[35:02] I think just having him there and just knowing that, you know, okay, now we're on the right track.
[35:06] um he's very subtle as well and when he tells us like oh you're visiting the k-mart we're like okay really you would look at the camp oh yeah that's right um um but no he's yeah he the support is tremendous yeah having your arm there having him there has just helped us a lot yeah yeah
[35:29] does help.
[35:29] Yeah, I mean we do have each other we're accountable to each other but also having someone outside of that really sort of strengthens that, galvanises that plan to our success.
[35:44] And how has it changed your relationship now?
[35:45] Because it used to be all you managing all the finances.
[35:48] Mary, are you doing a little bit more now?
[35:50] Because you would have full visibility now.
[35:51] You want to know how much is left in the FFF each week.
[35:54] How much you've paid off.
[35:56] Yeah.
[35:56] See that home loan go down.
[35:58] Yeah.
[35:59] It makes it go.
[36:00] Worth it going to work.
[36:01] Like you feel like you're working towards something.
[36:04] Yeah.
[36:05] Yeah.
[36:06] Something real.
[36:06] Yeah.
[36:07] Yeah.
[36:08] It keeps you very motivated.
[36:09] Um, and you don't feel like work's so much of a chore anymore because you're like, it's now giving us further purpose.
[36:15] Cause we know where the money's going towards our future.
[36:17] I had a couple, I did on podcast yesterday and they said, you know, one of the first things we said to you in our first meeting was get us to retirement and a comfortable one.
[36:25] Cause they were in their early sixties.
[36:27] And then now that they've been seeing the plan, they've bought four properties.
[36:30] They're like, we're not going to retire.
[36:32] Just keep us going, Rachel.
[36:34] We just want to keep going because now he's like, it doesn't feel like a chore anymore.
[36:37] It doesn't feel like a race to the finish line.
[36:40] I'm like, now I know what I'm achieving with my money that I'm earning.
[36:44] Yeah.
[36:44] Yeah.
[36:44] That's exactly how we felt before infinity, actually.
[36:47] Yeah.
[36:49] Like we were just working, going through the motions and, yeah, we just felt like we weren't going to achieve anything.
[36:56] I think just having that budget, being able to like work together on something and like every week it's like, okay, how much have we got on the FFF?
[37:04] And then we'll just ask questions.
[37:06] Is that SMB or FFF?
[37:09] I'll be like, FFF, okay, no, or SMB.
[37:12] So just that discussion, the communication between us to now is for myself has been really strong.
[37:20] Yeah.
[37:21] And holds me accountable as well because I'm so used to just thinking in my head to myself, but now I'm like, no, I need to verbalize that.
[37:27] And say, oh, do you think it's then?
[37:30] And then, yeah, then Mero would just say, oh, no, we need to go.
[37:34] Okay, cool.
[37:35] Yeah.
[37:35] All right, done.
[37:36] And if we're both not sure, then we're like, Sam, okay.
[37:38] Yeah, quick text to Sam, the third wheel of the relationship.
[37:45] But no, yeah, and that's in that side of it.
[37:48] But having that budget there and just having something, knowing that there is a set amount and then be like, great, let's go.
[37:55] Yeah.
[37:55] Go for it.
[37:57] um and it's it's been really good because then we look at how much is left and be like oh no let's just leave it we'll you know if it's we know we're gonna go over we're like no no we'll leave it go to the next one so go to the next week when it's going to drop so um it just makes us think more of our purchases thinking it through a lot more you're a lot more mindful now yeah yeah and it's become a habit now yeah yeah yeah
[38:23] But you're excited about it too, right?
[38:25] Very much.
[38:26] A lot of people can put a bad spin on the word habit, but it's something that's exciting you.
[38:31] Would you even maybe think it's this new side hustle because you were chasing a lot of side hustles before?
[38:37] Well, that's the other thing.
[38:38] We thought that we had to do a side hustle and get a third form of income, but we didn't.
[38:44] Yeah.
[38:45] We had to just restructure what we're currently doing.
[38:48] Yeah.
[38:48] Definitely.
[38:49] Because like...
[38:50] When he was looking at franchise businesses, we shared the same email.
[38:54] So I would see emails coming in.
[38:55] Hello, Dennis.
[38:56] Thank you for inquiring about blah, blah, blah, franchise.
[38:59] And I'm like, what the heck is this?
[39:01] And be like, we need to look at something.
[39:03] And I'm like, I don't have time.
[39:05] I only have time to go to my nine to five and come home.
[39:09] And so when we looked at infinity and we thought, this will be perfect.
[39:14] It's just we don't have to do anything extra.
[39:16] It's just changing our habits and just working with the income that we have at the moment.
[39:23] Yeah.
[39:24] Isn't that crazy, though, that doing something so simple as a restructure is buying your time back?
[39:29] Yeah.
[39:29] Because, you know, again, we show on the masterclass as an example, if you're paying a home loan off, a 30-year home loan in 10 years, you've just bought yourself 20 years because you're not paying back four grand, five grand a month to the bank, times up by 12 months in the year, times by 20 years.
[39:44] Yeah.
[39:45] It's a lot of money back in your pocket that's not going to the bank.
[39:48] I know, right.
[39:49] Yeah.
[39:49] Yeah.
[39:50] Then you can redeploy to better things.
[39:52] You guys said travel was really important to you.
[39:54] Yeah.
[39:54] So that's something.
[39:55] Does that look like you'll get to do more of that in the future with this plan?
[39:58] We're hoping that it'll...
[39:59] We'll get back to that.
[40:00] Yeah.
[40:01] Because we used to travel back home to NZ every year.
[40:04] Yeah.
[40:05] And it would cost us at least 10 grand.
[40:08] Yep.
[40:09] That was just flights.
[40:11] That was just flights.
[40:12] And flights alone.
[40:13] Then we still had, you know, accommodation if we were going to get that extra.
[40:16] Then there was we love food.
[40:19] So there was food and drink.
[40:22] So that would be like 20 grand maybe on the trip each time.
[40:26] And you're doing it every year.
[40:28] Every year.
[40:28] Most of it would go in the credit card.
[40:31] Yeah.
[40:33] So hopefully we haven't planned anything because our focus at the moment is this.
[40:40] Yeah.
[40:41] We're still new to the process.
[40:43] You want to give it the time it needs.
[40:45] We've already done 100K in one year.
[40:47] So it's definitely that light at the end of the tunnel is definitely there.
[40:50] Yeah.
[40:52] Yeah, exciting.
[40:53] It's so exciting.
[40:54] And we were just given the tools.
[40:58] We had everything there.
[41:00] Like the side hustle now.
[41:01] Yeah, it was like, oh, I don't need that side hustle.
[41:05] Just needed to tighten up our current situation.
[41:07] Mindset.
[41:08] Yeah.
[41:09] Change our mindset.
[41:10] Mindset, yeah.
[41:12] Do you feel less stressed as well now?
[41:14] Yes.
[41:14] Yeah.
[41:14] Actually, that thing I showed you today.
[41:18] Oh, yes.
[41:19] It was just something we're having breakfast and Mary showed me, showed me a snippet of downloaded something from, from Google.
[41:26] It's like a definition on financial, financial wellness.
[41:32] And it outlines what we're doing with Infinity.
[41:34] There's no association or anything.
[41:36] Yeah.
[41:36] It's just something you randomly found.
[41:38] It's something that I came across, yeah.
[41:40] Randomly found.
[41:41] And it just spoke briefly about your current financial situation as a reflection on your current habits.
[41:50] See, Infinity changed our habits from what we were currently doing to what we are now and what we were given.
[41:57] We were hungry for that.
[41:58] So there was no questions asked.
[42:01] We just did it.
[42:04] It just didn't make any sense to question it because, hello, we asked.
[42:08] We asked for it.
[42:09] This is what you've given.
[42:10] So we followed it.
[42:11] And we were just having breakfast.
[42:14] And when Mary showed it to me, it was like, man, this is exactly what we're doing.
[42:18] It was a good conversation.
[42:20] Because when we look back, money was a thing of stress for us.
[42:25] Yeah.
[42:26] We just didn't want to admit it.
[42:27] Yeah.
[42:28] Well, do you think like credit card use is normalized?
[42:30] Yes.
[42:31] Like in society?
[42:32] So much so.
[42:32] It really is.
[42:33] Yeah.
[42:34] And how easy was it to get over $20,000 on a credit card?
[42:38] Yeah.
[42:40] Too easy, I think.
[42:43] Yeah.
[42:44] It was like just automatic.
[42:45] Yeah.
[42:45] Yeah.
[42:46] Automatic and thinking, oh, yeah, no, we'll pay it back.
[42:48] Yeah.
[42:49] We'll pay it back later.
[42:50] And then the next month rolls around.
[42:51] And the next month.
[42:52] Oh, we haven't paid that.
[42:53] Oh, yeah, no, next month.
[42:55] Yeah.
[42:55] So, yeah, it was normalized.
[42:58] Yeah.
[42:59] We didn't really think anything of it.
[43:01] Yeah.
[43:03] And how did it feel when it was finally completely gone after a very few short months with infinity?
[43:08] Oh, it was a relief.
[43:11] Because we cut it up after my first meeting, but there was still a balance on it.
[43:14] Yes.
[43:15] So we still had to get rid of that.
[43:16] Yeah.
[43:17] And we didn't consolidate it because I didn't want to use any equity in the home.
[43:20] We wanted to really use that for the property.
[43:22] So you had that slog to pay it out.
[43:24] So how did it feel when it was finally gone?
[43:27] It was like.
[43:28] Why did it take us this long?
[43:32] Why?
[43:33] We felt like, that's why Rachel told us to get rid of that card.
[43:38] You know, and the slogan, you know, interest calculated daily.
[43:43] Yeah.
[43:43] I was like, far out.
[43:44] We've been thinking that.
[43:46] I think also when we paid it off, we didn't realize that.
[43:51] I don't know how it works.
[43:52] We paid it off after the date, after the 55 days.
[43:58] Oh, like the interest-free period that you had?
[44:00] Yeah.
[44:00] A lot of people use that as like a strategy where it's like, oh, we'll leave everything in the offset account for up to 55 days and then we'll pay that off.
[44:07] Yeah.
[44:07] But you end up paying it off and it's ended up being way more than you thought it was going to be.
[44:11] Yeah.
[44:12] So we...
[44:13] Paid off the balance and we thought it was all done.
[44:16] But then we got a statement the next week and it said that we had owed another $200, which was interest.
[44:26] And we were so pissed off.
[44:28] We were so angry.
[44:29] We were like, we've paid this.
[44:31] Because I rang them and I said, hey, you'd given us a balance.
[44:35] We've paid it on that day.
[44:37] uh what's this extra and she goes oh the interest is calculated daily and i just heard that in my back of my mind and i just went you motherfuckers and say okay we'll just paid it and i said to it very hard we'll just pay it get rid of it see and that's that was the thing it was we just paid it and left it then thought no be done with it done it's gone i think there's i think we've still got one cent in the account i'm sure i don't know how that works we've paid it off
[45:03] As in like they owe you one cent?
[45:05] Yeah, one cent.
[45:06] So maybe I should call them and say, hey.
[45:09] We'll take our cent back and close it, please.
[45:12] Interest calculated daily.
[45:14] No.
[45:15] Knowing we got rid of that was like a step forward towards our goal.
[45:19] Getting rid of that and it was great.
[45:22] Next one.
[45:22] You had an expensive credit card too.
[45:24] You had NAMEX.
[45:25] And Amex is always charged.
[45:27] Well, we were on it for the point's sake.
[45:30] I wasn't going to out you like that.
[45:33] I was waiting for you to do it.
[45:36] That's some good perks.
[45:37] That's about it.
[45:39] When you go over our house, it'll be like, oh, Visa or whatever.
[45:42] And be like, Amex?
[45:43] Oh, sorry.
[45:44] We'll pay an extra 2.5%, 3% on all of our transactions.
[45:50] Yeah.
[45:50] So it was like, yeah, we got, yeah.
[45:52] Yeah.
[45:53] Yeah.
[45:53] Got rid of it.
[45:56] And then now, so fast forward, we've got a couple of investment properties, as you said, one in the personal name, one in your super fund.
[46:02] So with the house, your home combined, you're sitting on nearly $2.3, $2.4 million in property portfolio.
[46:09] How does that make you feel?
[46:10] Did you think it was possible?
[46:12] No.
[46:12] You've been told no before at every angle.
[46:14] Yeah.
[46:15] I've got goosebumps because we talked about having the goals in place.
[46:18] Yeah.
[46:19] One of the goals was having three investment properties.
[46:22] I'm going to get emotional.
[46:26] You'll make me get emotional too.
[46:31] Sorry.
[46:32] No, you are totally fine.
[46:33] You're just going to make me start.
[46:40] Sorry.
[46:42] No, take your time.
[46:42] Take your time.
[46:45] Yeah.
[46:49] Have some water if you need to.
[46:50] Oh, I'm going to swell up.
[46:53] I have an ugly cry.
[46:54] Sorry.
[46:55] Like I said, Kim Kardashian has an ugly crowd too, and she's gorgeous.
[47:01] See, we always had the goals in place.
[47:04] And one of the goals that I wrote down was having three investment properties, one each for each child.
[47:13] We've got two.
[47:15] You know, and what you just said then really resonated home thinking, par out.
[47:25] We're getting there.
[47:28] No, take your time.
[47:32] Yeah, it just resonated that.
[47:36] That's why I was so convinced.
[47:43] Oh, thanks.
[47:44] Thank you.
[47:45] Thank you.
[47:47] All right.
[47:57] All right, back here.
[48:00] Yeah, so just having the goals in place, having always believed in having your goals written out because for some reason, somewhere, somehow, something will happen and your stars will fall in line.
[48:13] I've always been a big believer in that, having it written down, having them written down, and then just going through just exactly what you've just said then.
[48:23] Yeah.
[48:26] Just know that we're on the right track, that we've made the right decision.
[48:34] So, yeah.
[48:36] I'm a bit exookie.
[48:37] Sorry.
[48:38] Thank you for sharing that.
[48:39] That's going to resonate with a lot of people.
[48:41] And I think what I've always loved about your journey is that you always were questioning things before infinity.
[48:46] Like there's got to be something more.
[48:47] We want to set the kids up.
[48:48] We just don't know how.
[48:49] We just need help.
[48:50] And there's a lot of wrong information out there that you were getting a lot of no's, right?
[48:55] But then you eventually led yourself to here.
[48:58] All you needed was the plan and you could execute it.
[49:01] And you did it.
[49:02] Mm.
[49:03] And now we do have the three properties.
[49:05] One is the home, of course, but we're building towards the next steps and what's going to happen from there.
[49:10] And I think the best takeaway from that is, you know, we've got a lot of changes with our government, you know, and we've just had our most recent federal budget announcement and there's not some not so great things, right?
[49:22] And at any moment they can make decisions that impact us in a big way.
[49:25] But...
[49:27] you've got to make those decisions to change your future for your family because no one else is going to look after you.
[49:32] Yeah.
[49:33] Because they're not.
[49:34] Yeah.
[49:35] I don't want to get too political, but, you know, they're just going to make their decisions what they think is best, but we may not always agree for our family.
[49:41] So you're doing that for your family.
[49:44] And you're still early in your journey.
[49:45] You've got a big journey still ahead of you.
[49:48] So what do you feel is next?
[49:51] Yeah.
[49:55] Whatever you have in place, to be honest.
[49:58] More property investments.
[50:01] More property investments.
[50:03] And then we want to, like, we love traveling when the kids were younger and we want to get back into that, like, you know, being able to travel.
[50:14] And then now the kids, they're all basically working and can afford to pay their own way.
[50:20] So to some extent.
[50:22] So it'd be like having them be a part of this journey as well is what we're looking forward to.
[50:28] We want them to fulfill their goals and dreams as well.
[50:33] And for us.
[50:34] We can only show that by doing it ourselves.
[50:36] Yeah.
[50:37] We've set the example and then we go from there.
[50:41] So, yeah, and it's just working together with, you know, with you and your team.
[50:47] We know we're in a good space.
[50:49] Do you think this is also going to help you help your kids achieve those dreams that they do have, whether it be education, investing themselves?
[50:56] 100%.
[50:57] 100%.
[50:57] Yeah.
[50:58] Yeah.
[50:58] No, definitely.
[50:59] Yeah.
[51:00] And do they seem happier because mum and dad are happier?
[51:02] Yes.
[51:03] Yes.
[51:04] Yeah, I think so.
[51:05] Yeah.
[51:06] We had our youngest son drop us to the airport yesterday, and he was like, what's this trip for?
[51:14] He was asking a lot of questions.
[51:15] And so Dennis explained to him that it's with Infinity, and then you guys had invited us to do a podcast, and he was impressed because he doesn't say much, our youngest, but he was quietly impressed.
[51:30] Yeah, he was.
[51:31] And I think proud.
[51:32] Yeah.
[51:33] We talk to each one of them, the different personalities.
[51:39] Yeah.
[51:41] And I think we're encouraged that the way we talk to them and bring them out on their, especially where they're at in their lives, we try and instill what we've learned so far to them and that they can instill it.
[51:54] Yeah.
[51:55] um so the two remaining at home are paying board we got them the paying board and um it was actually we sent them a copy of our fff yep to to all to them and said hey look guys this is our budget this is what it looks like for us yeah just to let you guys know what we're how our financial structure looks like as well as the letting them know that with you know with the properties as well the two ips
[52:19] That we've got as well.
[52:20] So it's bringing them in, just making them, without having to bog them too much, it's just instilling in them, oh, this is what mom and dad are working on.
[52:27] Whether they take it upon themselves, we hope they do.
[52:30] Yeah.
[52:31] But at least having that structure, that financial structure in place, which is helping us out immensely, you know, a lot.
[52:39] I think having them pay board is such a good thing to teach them discipline and responsibility because who's going to benefit from what you're building?
[52:48] They're the ones that are going to benefit.
[52:49] So they're now helping mum and dad build that even sooner, even stronger.
[52:54] And it's very hard as island parents.
[52:56] We don't charge our kids.
[52:59] Like they just stay at home.
[53:01] Yeah.
[53:01] But we're like.
[53:02] You're trying to teach them good habits.
[53:04] Yeah.
[53:05] Yeah.
[53:05] Which I think is really good because we live in a totally different world that they're growing up in compared to I did, compared to yourselves, you know.
[53:13] Everything's we want it now, we get it now, and everything's quick on social media.
[53:16] That's great gratification.
[53:18] Yeah.
[53:18] Not there.
[53:19] It is absolutely not there at all.
[53:22] Yeah.
[53:22] So you should be very proud.
[53:24] What are you the most proud of as a couple?
[53:26] Yeah.
[53:30] I'm proud of our kids.
[53:31] Yeah, proud of our kids.
[53:33] Proud of what we've achieved in the last year, I think, more so than what we were doing before.
[53:40] I don't know.
[53:40] I think maybe it was meant to be that we went to Poor Headland because I don't know if we would have been...
[53:49] hungry to look for something yeah a vehicle that would help us to financial freedom yeah you just should have found it sooner dennis yeah i know i was like why didn't you make us do this earlier and we've lost two years now you're here now and you guys are doing so incredible i think just keep the momentum up and you know you're just going to keep growing on what you've already built so you should be so proud and i'm so proud of you guys thank you thank you for having us
[54:15] Thank you for taking us on, of course.
[54:17] Yeah, thank you for taking us on.
[54:18] After we did the masterclass, we went to Bali.
[54:21] It was a trip that was planned prior.
[54:24] And we were so nervous on the trip because we were like, we haven't heard from them.
[54:28] Yeah, we haven't heard.
[54:28] They're probably not going to take us on as clients.
[54:33] Then we came back and then we heard...
[54:35] We got the email and we were so happy.
[54:37] We were so excited and relieved.
[54:41] I've still got that email too.
[54:42] Yeah.
[54:43] Yeah.
[54:44] I keep everything.
[54:45] I can't remember what we see.
[54:46] But I could not ignore, I just could not ignore those bang statements.
[54:49] I'm like, these guys have no equity in their homes right now.
[54:53] You know, typically you'd be the type of client that'd go, like your broker did, not right now, guys, come back later.
[54:58] But I was like, I can't, I'm not going to give up on these guys.
[55:01] We're going to put this plan in place.
[55:02] Yeah.
