# They Had $1M in the Bank… But Were Doing It Completely Wrong | Benji & Cherry | CHANGING LIVES S4E67

Benji and Cherry had $1 million sitting in the bank and a $750,000 mortgage they never paid off. They weren't struggling, and that was the problem. The cash sat there earning interest they were taxed on while they kept paying interest on the home loan, and Cherry was sceptical of Infinity from the start, convinced anything that sounded this good had a catch in it. What changed her mind was seeing their super broken down and realising what retirement would actually look like if they carried on exactly as they were. In this episode they talk about paying the home loan off straight away, why they still stick to a weekly budget now that they don't have to, and the 10 year goal Benji is not shy about. ## Transcript

[0:00] You came to us still with a mortgage on 750.
[0:02] 750, yeah.
[0:03] But you had a million dollars of cash in the bank.
[0:05] Yeah.
[0:06] On paper, it looked fucking fantastic.
[0:08] I thought we were doing all right, and when he put our super together and said, okay, if we don't do anything else, we wouldn't have had what you would need to spend a year.
[0:17] Yeah.
[0:17] That freaked me out.
[0:19] There was an intermittent moment there where I fucked up.
[0:22] But anyway...
[0:23] One of the biggest things was getting our finances, making sure we've got a steady, solid base.
[0:27] Because that's what broke you up.
[0:28] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[0:29] I discovered Graham.
[0:30] It's got a man crush on Graham.
[0:32] I was a bit sceptical, you know?
[0:34] I'm always a believer of if it feels too good to be true, it has to be.
[0:38] So you signed up, you've been assigned me as your finance strategist.
[0:42] During this whole process, it's been awesome because now I actually understand stuff.
[0:46] We've paid off the home loan straight away and we've significantly reduced dad's debt as well.
[0:51] What for you guys being in that position were your biggest takeaways?
[0:54] So it was...
[0:58] Welcome back to the Money Mentor Podcast.
[1:00] I am your host, Rachel Howlett.
[1:01] We have another episode of Changing Lives Financially.
[1:04] Today I have the awesome Benji and Cherry.
[1:08] How are you guys?
[1:09] You're finally on a fucking podcast.
[1:11] We've been trying to get here for months.
[1:12] Yeah.
[1:12] Yeah.
[1:13] Very good.
[1:14] Very good.
[1:14] Thank you.
[1:15] Yeah.
[1:16] And awesome to see you again.
[1:18] Yeah.
[1:18] It's always so good to see you guys.
[1:20] We're going to talk about your journey, what led you to where you are today.
[1:24] But I want to go back before that, before you even met Infinity and where you were at in life, finances, everything.
[1:30] Tell me everything.
[1:31] We're a little bit different to your common story.
[1:34] But we grew up in Tassie and we've been together since we were little.
[1:40] And we bought our first property when we were early 20s.
[1:44] 20s, yeah.
[1:45] It was a freestanding villa.
[1:48] Two-bedroom.
[1:49] Yeah, it was a new one, relatively new.
[1:51] It was a couple of years since being built.
[1:54] Yeah.
[1:54] And we lived in that for six months and then we bought our second one, which is the same, a freestanding villa, and this one was an absolute shitbox.
[2:02] Dive.
[2:02] Absolute dive.
[2:03] It was ex-housing commission, ex-government housing.
[2:08] Yeah.
[2:09] And, yeah, they'd been heavily smoking in it for probably the last 20-odd years.
[2:13] It was feral.
[2:14] It was absolutely feral.
[2:15] It was feral.
[2:15] Yeah, the walls were stained and we – so that was our first taste of renovation.
[2:21] Yeah.
[2:21] And you bought that because you wanted to reno?
[2:23] Yeah.
[2:23] Well, it needed to but it was in our price range.
[2:27] Yeah, because we – so we were a little bit cheeky I suppose.
[2:32] We bought them separately.
[2:33] So we both got the first-time buyers.
[2:36] So we got two first-time buyers games.
[2:38] I think it was $14,000 back then.
[2:39] No, you did it the right way.
[2:40] You weren't together all the time.
[2:41] That's right.
[2:41] Yeah, that's right.
[2:43] But we hadn't been together very long.
[2:45] Yeah, we weren't.
[2:45] So we had bought one.
[2:46] So you weren't actually considered de facto?
[2:48] No.
[2:49] No.
[2:49] And so we were sort of not pressured but Dad was very much instrumental on us getting into the property market early.
[2:56] Yeah.
[2:56] Which is lucky, thankfully.
[2:57] Yeah, we're very thankful for that.
[2:59] Yeah.
[3:00] But that was our first taste of renovation.
[3:02] So we ripped out the kitchen, the bathroom, the laundry, pulled walls out, redid the carpet, the paint.
[3:07] Absolutely, everything, toilet, everything.
[3:09] Everything.
[3:09] So one of my close mates ran his own building company and we used him and we did a lot of it ourselves.
[3:16] We were fortunate actually.
[3:18] Yeah, and we had that.
[3:21] So we had them for a few years and then at the time we owned a restaurant so we were running that and then we bought a nightclub as well and we were running both of them.
[3:30] And working other jobs on the side.
[3:32] Yeah.
[3:32] So just try and make ends meet.
[3:34] Money hungry.
[3:34] And just pay off mortgage and put some savings into our account and –
[3:38] Yeah, but you always had the hustle mentality.
[3:40] We were hustling.
[3:41] Yeah.
[3:41] We were hustling from a young age.
[3:43] Doing that made us hate people.
[3:46] So hospitality just ate away at us.
[3:49] So we decided to sell up.
[3:53] My business partner was the same one that owned the company, the building company that helped us renovate.
[3:59] We agreed to sell them off and we decided we wanted to go and work in the mine so we moved up to Queensland up in Mackay.
[4:06] We moved up north.
[4:07] Yeah, we didn't end up going in the mines.
[4:08] We were lucky enough to get on together into a major construction project.
[4:16] Yeah.
[4:17] She's laughing.
[4:18] I'm laughing.
[4:19] There was an intermittent moment there where I fucked up.
[4:22] But anyway.
[4:24] I was moving up and we went into the mines and I lost my job for losing my temper quite severely.
[4:33] Yeah, that's a bit of a fuck up.
[4:34] Yes, yes.
[4:37] Yeah, we did that for years and then Sherry fell pregnant.
[4:41] Yep.
[4:41] Slept and fell.
[4:45] We had always said that we wanted to raise our family on the sunny coast.
[4:48] So when that happened and Sherry couldn't work anymore, we looked for property on the sunny coast and bought our first property on the sunny coast then.
[4:57] So we – That was our third property.
[5:00] Yeah, third, and we kept all three at that time and did that for a little bit.
[5:06] And then Max obviously came along into our lives and it was mayhem.
[5:10] But I was working overseas and out at this stage and I was on huge money.
[5:14] Yeah.
[5:16] He was away for long periods of time and it was really hard.
[5:19] With a small child that was just born.
[5:22] That's why we've only got one.
[5:24] Wild.
[5:24] Because he was full on, but the money was too good to give up at the time.
[5:30] Yeah.
[5:30] Yeah.
[5:30] Yeah.
[5:32] Cherry just pushed through.
[5:33] Did what we had to do, right?
[5:35] Yeah.
[5:35] But that then gave us a taste of wanting bigger and better and more.
[5:39] Yeah.
[5:39] So it was actually Cherry's father came up and they went to a display home and saw this beautiful display home and she knew exactly what she was doing, got me hook, line and sinker.
[5:48] Yeah.
[5:49] You've got to come and have a look at this house.
[5:51] So lovely.
[5:53] I flew back in.
[5:53] I think it was – I flew in on a Thursday.
[5:56] We had a look at this display home on the Friday and on Saturday we signed contract for land.
[6:01] Yeah, you didn't fucking muck around.
[6:03] That's right.
[6:05] And, yeah, then started looking at buildings.
[6:08] We actually did what Infinity does as such is we then looked at what our mortgage was going to be and because we'd been earning such good money, actually paying off our mortgage was becoming a reality.
[6:25] So we sold our investment properties.
[6:30] Yeah, sold all three including our main residence.
[6:32] Yep, yep.
[6:33] And then use that money to then have a minimal mortgage on that bigger home.
[6:37] Yeah.
[6:39] Which, yeah, we did.
[6:40] And then we got itchy feet again.
[6:44] Actually, no, what happened was our friends across the road put their house on the market and it got a really good price.
[6:52] And they actually built with the same builders as what we had.
[6:54] Yeah.
[6:55] So we were on one corner, they were on the other corner.
[6:57] It was always keeping up with the Joneses.
[6:58] We used to have a laugh about it.
[7:00] Yeah.
[7:00] They're good friends of ours now.
[7:01] Yeah, say that jokingly.
[7:02] Yeah.
[7:02] Yeah.
[7:03] They're really close friends of ours, which is a funny story in itself.
[7:05] So our friend is the general manager of a very well-known airline.
[7:11] Yeah.
[7:11] And we would not have crossed paths.
[7:15] had I not been neighbours.
[7:16] Living in the street, yeah.
[7:17] And now we've become really, really close friends now.
[7:19] So it's a nice story.
[7:21] But they put their house on the market and they got an excellent price for it.
[7:25] And we had an absolute nutcase of a neighbour at the time.
[7:30] So, hey, we were keen to get out of there and we put it on the market.
[7:32] It was on for 24 hours and it sold for 1.4 mil.
[7:36] Jeez.
[7:36] We ended up making $600,000.
[7:38] A lot of money.
[7:39] So you did quite well.
[7:41] Yeah.
[7:42] So that was, if we go back a little bit, it was just as COVID started to go crazy.
[7:47] So everyone was trying to move to the Sunshine Coast.
[7:50] So we got a very good price for our house.
[7:54] We did well.
[7:55] We did very well.
[7:56] I think it was also timing.
[7:58] Yeah.
[7:58] For us it worked really well.
[7:59] Yeah.
[8:00] Yeah, and we always wanted to live by the beach.
[8:03] That was like one of the main goals that we had when we moved to the sunny coast.
[8:06] So we bought an old shitbox and knocked it down and built this beautiful big house.
[8:12] Yeah.
[8:13] That was interesting actually.
[8:14] It was built all on sand.
[8:16] So it was, yeah, the builders had to do a lot of special things to try.
[8:20] Yeah, we had to change the piles.
[8:22] We had screw piles instead of normal ones.
[8:23] Sure, yeah, good foundations.
[8:25] Lots of extra.
[8:26] Added extras that ended up costing us.
[8:28] Yeah, that you didn't realise.
[8:29] A lot.
[8:29] But anyway, it was still okay.
[8:31] Yeah, we loved it.
[8:33] It was great.
[8:34] Ironically, we probably went to the beach twice.
[8:38] We used to go to the beach more when we didn't live there.
[8:40] That's true.
[8:41] That's true.
[8:43] Yeah, and then we separated for a little bit.
[8:48] Is this going back to that little fuck up before?
[8:50] No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[8:54] No, that one.
[8:55] No, that's different.
[8:55] Nothing like that one.
[8:59] One of the main factors there was that she was sick to death and we'd been away.
[9:03] Yeah.
[9:04] And I was too stubborn to.
[9:06] Yeah.
[9:06] Yeah.
[9:06] Agree.
[9:07] Well, it's hard to let go of something you know is like giving you so much from a financial perspective.
[9:12] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[9:13] But that's exactly right.
[9:14] And how do people cope these days anyway?
[9:17] Yeah.
[9:17] A husband doing nine to five and maybe the mum doesn't work very often.
[9:21] Like the expenses of things nowadays, I just don't know how people cope, you know.
[9:27] That's the only reason she wanted to be back.
[9:30] Because noodles taste like shit after six months.
[9:35] Oh, yeah.
[9:37] But we'd also built a terrace property, a three-bedroom terrace to put Benji's dad in.
[9:45] Because we were also looking after dad as well.
[9:48] Yeah, my parents.
[9:49] So he had been living with us.
[9:51] In the house that we sold that we made $600 on.
[9:55] So he was living with us and then... Mum and Dad had a breakup and then Dad wasn't left terribly well financially.
[10:02] Yeah.
[10:04] And that was a scary thing for all of us really.
[10:07] So he lived with us and I just...
[10:10] Felt like he wanted his own space.
[10:11] He never said anything, obviously.
[10:13] He's always grateful, yeah.
[10:14] He's a grown-up, right?
[10:15] Yeah, that's right.
[10:16] Everyone wants their independence.
[10:17] That's exactly right.
[10:19] And we thought, well, we're better off building him something that he feels safe in, we know he's safe in, and we build it close to us.
[10:28] Yep.
[10:28] So at least, yeah.
[10:29] Yeah.
[10:30] So that was good.
[10:30] Yeah.
[10:30] Yeah, it's been good and it's been a very good investment as well.
[10:33] So it's done well.
[10:34] But during that time was when I discovered Graham.
[10:38] So the podcast from both sides.
[10:43] Yeah.
[10:44] Which is a really common story.
[10:46] Yeah, a lot of people are saying that's how they found us.
[10:48] Yeah, it's.
[10:50] it made me go, who the fuck is this guy?
[10:53] Because the way that he spoke and the things that he was saying, he spoke about like if you don't pay tax, you're broke.
[10:59] Yeah.
[11:00] And that was something that I'm not terribly good at articulating that sort of thing, but that was something that I would argue previously and it's the first time I heard someone give that argument really well.
[11:09] Because you'd always believed it.
[11:11] Yeah, absolutely I had.
[11:12] And because you never know where you're at really because people don't,
[11:18] People that are doing well don't really self-promote.
[11:21] That's quite – we're talking about coming into this podcast about talking about ourselves.
[11:24] Yeah.
[11:25] It's not common.
[11:25] So, yeah, we –
[11:29] I just got a man crush on Graham.
[11:33] I was like, who the fuck is this guy?
[11:36] Yeah.
[11:37] And went on a full binge on anything that I could find on Graham.
[11:42] To do with you, yeah.
[11:43] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[11:44] Because I hadn't heard anything about him previously.
[11:46] And we had been looking even before we had separated, like, for someone.
[11:51] It's just such a- Some guidance because we were winging it for such a long time.
[11:54] Yeah.
[11:54] Yeah.
[11:55] We didn't know whether it was the right or wrong thing.
[11:57] We were doing all right but we thought maybe we could do better.
[12:01] Yeah.
[12:01] It can be such an untrustworthy industry.
[12:04] Yeah.
[12:04] I just don't know.
[12:05] There's so many gurus out there and we, during that time as well, I had done other masterclasses and like just little things.
[12:14] They weren't live.
[12:16] They were pre-recorded and they were trying to sell themselves as live and they look at it, they've got like dates in the top corner.
[12:20] So they're actually being like.
[12:21] And it's like, that's not live.
[12:23] And they're like saying, you know, can everyone say yes in the task bar?
[12:27] Mate.
[12:28] Oh, that's awkward.
[12:29] And after the fact too, I got harassed by these different companies trying to sell a product.
[12:36] And that was something after doing so when I had done the webinar
[12:42] It was left in your court.
[12:43] So here's the free information.
[12:45] Use it as you will.
[12:46] Yeah.
[12:46] Do what you like with it.
[12:48] There is also another option of doing a masterclass if you so wish.
[12:52] Yeah.
[12:52] And that was a really refreshing scenario compared to what these other companies had been doing.
[12:57] If this story has inspired you to take control of your financial future, your journey starts with our free educational webinar.
[13:05] Click the link below this video to get started today.
[13:08] I had sat on that for many, many, many months.
[13:11] Yeah, because when did you find it?
[13:12] It would have been like if it was both sides probably 2024?
[13:16] Yeah.
[13:17] Yes.
[13:17] Yeah.
[13:18] I don't know.
[13:18] Something like that.
[13:19] Sure.
[13:19] Yeah.
[13:20] Rachel, you're all right.
[13:20] Yeah.
[13:21] Yeah.
[13:21] Yeah.
[13:21] Yeah.
[13:21] Yeah.
[13:22] Yeah.
[13:22] Yeah.
[13:22] Yeah.
[13:22] Yeah.
[13:22] Yeah.
[13:23] Yeah.
[13:23] Yeah.
[13:23] Yeah.
[13:23] Yeah.
[13:24] Yeah.
[13:24] Yeah.
[13:25] Yeah.
[13:25] Yeah.
[13:25] Yeah.
[13:25] Yeah.
[13:26] Yeah.
[13:45] or whatever the case may be but I couldn't um there was there was nothing negative so when we sorted our shit out and got back together one of the biggest things was getting our finances making sure we got a steady solid base yeah and that we're going because that left us kind of both in limbo at the time we didn't really know where we were at we
[14:05] Because that's what broke you up.
[14:06] So, yeah, you're trying to come back together.
[14:08] Well, we ended up that when we took a while to sell because it was in a higher price bracket.
[14:13] But when we sold the beach house, we did very well out of that as well, which then...
[14:23] Gave us a lot of spending money, I suppose.
[14:25] Yeah.
[14:26] But we're not spenders.
[14:27] Because we'll be very transparent for our listeners.
[14:29] You came to us still with a mortgage on a new property that you did buy, $750, yeah.
[14:34] But you had a million dollars of cash in the bank.
[14:36] Yeah.
[14:37] So you really on paper looked fucking fantastic.
[14:40] Yeah.
[14:41] But we had no idea what to do with it.
[14:43] Yeah.
[14:43] And like at the end goal was like one or two properties.
[14:47] It wasn't until we started watching some of these podcasts and the speeches and whatnot.
[14:51] It was like five or ten properties.
[14:54] What?
[14:55] Yeah.
[14:56] We want that.
[14:56] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[14:58] Afterwards, I'm probably jumping forward a bit here, but so we did the master class and then went to REM and we did that in a very short period of time.
[15:09] But when we ended up purchasing all the properties, I was like, oh, kind of hoped we'd buy more.
[15:15] Oh, I don't know.
[15:17] You know that.
[15:18] We're walking away with five properties.
[15:20] He's like, yeah, but I thought we were going to get ten.
[15:25] We jumped forward a bit there.
[15:26] Backtrack.
[15:27] We'll come back to that.
[15:28] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[15:30] So the master class, there's some really interesting points in that and more information.
[15:37] We found the Q&A were painful.
[15:40] because of all the dumb questions.
[15:43] My God, the patience level is on G. Just common sense stuff, you know.
[15:47] There was some really silly questions in there.
[15:50] And like people asking the exact same question again that had been.
[15:53] So that would be.
[15:54] Like you said, G's so patient with it.
[15:56] He was.
[15:56] He was so patient and went through it again and went through it again.
[15:59] Because now I'm running them like with him.
[16:01] So I'm like seeing what he, I'm on his side now.
[16:04] I'm seeing like what he goes through and I'm like,
[16:07] I can relate now but it's, yeah, we're just so patient.
[16:09] We just go through it.
[16:10] Well, that's a big point.
[16:11] So when we came to you guys and signed up after the masterclass.
[16:16] Because did you ever watch the webinar?
[16:18] Because you'd watched it on your own.
[16:19] No, I hadn't.
[16:20] Yeah.
[16:21] Too sceptical.
[16:21] I was a bit sceptical, you know, because I was like, oh, I think this is a Ponzi scheme or something like that.
[16:27] I'm like, oh.
[16:29] You know, I'm always a believer of if it feels too good to be true, it has to be.
[16:34] Yeah.
[16:34] Like, do you know what I mean?
[16:36] But, yeah.
[16:37] That's, yeah.
[16:38] I was just worried, you know.
[16:40] When you see all these testimonials from people, I suppose you're inclined to be like, nah, there's got to be something here.
[16:49] They're getting paid.
[16:49] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[16:51] And we were obviously in a different position than what a lot of the Infinity clients have been in.
[16:56] So that was something they really appreciated.
[16:59] So when we came to you...
[17:02] There was a really big deal about making sure that the house was kept for dad because we know that we like selling some of the current ones to try and pull the equity.
[17:09] So that was a really big deal and that we worked that out to then end up paying that off as well.
[17:14] So it was that abominable, which I guess starts our waterfall process.
[17:19] Waterfall strategy, yeah.
[17:21] Yeah.
[17:22] Because we'll go back to the masterclass.
[17:23] So you got Cherry on board.
[17:25] You've sat the masterclass together.
[17:26] Yes.
[17:27] What were your biggest takeaways from the masterclass?
[17:29] Because, again, you're looking at this from the lens of like, well, we've got this money in the bank.
[17:33] We can pay the home loan off tomorrow and we can substantially reduce Dad's mortgage as well.
[17:37] Yeah.
[17:38] What for you guys being in that position were your biggest takeaways?
[17:42] So it was the car thing.
[17:45] Really?
[17:46] Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[17:49] We had always been of the impression that you pay the cash.
[17:53] Pay your cash.
[17:54] We don't want that debt.
[17:55] It's shit debt.
[17:56] It's for an asset.
[17:57] It's for a liability that's going down in price.
[18:00] Depreciating asset, yeah.
[18:02] So that was like a mind-blowing moment to be like that.
[18:06] It makes perfect sense when explained.
[18:09] We had two brand-new cars pay cash for it.
[18:12] Yeah.
[18:13] And that's a huge amount of equity sitting there that we can put into something else.
[18:18] Put into a leveraged asset.
[18:19] So when you said, when we did our plan and you said to sell one, I went boom, gone.
[18:24] So you're like, now I've got an electric pushback.
[18:29] Actually, yeah.
[18:31] So good.
[18:33] But, yeah, it was just.
[18:34] That was the main thing, yeah.
[18:36] And breaking things down.
[18:37] So it was for me because I don't understand all the fancy jargon.
[18:42] I'm the smart one.
[18:44] Anyway, but seeing for me, seeing the breakdown and just visualising it going, okay, now I understand that.
[18:54] I understand where it's coming from.
[18:55] You like that we just still everything down.
[18:57] Yeah.
[18:58] That was good for me too because I wasn't doing it justice when I was trying to...
[19:02] Explained the webinar, yeah.
[19:04] Trying to regurgitate what was being said.
[19:05] I was like, it's got this good point but it's just not coming out right.
[19:09] And so the fact that it was explained in layman's terms and went over and over again.
[19:14] Yeah.
[19:15] If we did have a question, like we're not inclined to get involved in that chat bar.
[19:20] But generally the question that we wanted to ask anyway would come up.
[19:23] Yeah.
[19:24] And get answered anyway.
[19:25] And Graeme was very explanatory, wasn't he?
[19:27] Yeah.
[19:28] He explained things in a way that...
[19:31] We could all understand.
[19:33] Yeah.
[19:33] Do you know what I mean?
[19:34] So I really enjoyed that.
[19:37] Yeah.
[19:37] Yeah.
[19:37] Yeah.
[19:38] I'd sent him a message before all this, like just reached out to him and said, just want to let you know that I'm going to be your next success story.
[19:45] And he actually wrote back and he's like, let's fucking go then, bro.
[19:48] He's on that damn phone like all the time.
[19:50] Let's fucking go, bro.
[19:52] Yeah.
[19:52] Sweet.
[19:52] Sweet.
[19:53] Yeah, look at how you're doing the podcast.
[19:55] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[19:56] Yeah, it's cool to be here full circle actually and to be a part of this and to share this side of it because we've, yeah, watched even the most recent ones.
[20:05] Yeah.
[20:06] It's amazing.
[20:07] So even little things like, look, we're not spenders but having a budget.
[20:12] Yeah.
[20:12] Because we're like, budget?
[20:13] Because you said you've always done really well.
[20:15] Like even when I was breaking down all your bank accounts, I'm like they're doing okay.
[20:20] Like you just weren't overspending.
[20:22] You just weren't, you know, bare bones or anything.
[20:24] You were just posting.
[20:25] We didn't have a budget.
[20:26] We never had a budget.
[20:26] Yeah, you didn't have a budget but you weren't like over-the-top spenders either.
[20:31] Like you were okay.
[20:32] But now it's good.
[20:35] Like this happened recently.
[20:38] concert or something you wanted to book?
[20:40] And it was like a substantial amount.
[20:43] I said, just take it out of the Bill's account.
[20:46] Yeah.
[20:46] She's like, no, we're not doing that.
[20:49] It's going out and we can't afford it.
[20:50] And I was like, oh, fuck.
[20:53] We've got $100 left.
[20:54] That's going to do us for a couple of weeks.
[20:55] Because Cherry had a by-name relationship with our postman.
[21:01] Post lady, come on.
[21:04] So there's been times where I'm excited, I'm not home a lot, and they're like, oh, hi, I'm just after Cherry.
[21:10] Like, oh, you just let yourself in, do you?
[21:13] Yeah, sure.
[21:15] So now it's, like they say, it's having that every single dollar.
[21:20] It has a purpose.
[21:21] It does help.
[21:22] Honestly, we subscribe our meat, fruit and veg.
[21:26] That comes every Saturday so I know what we're spending.
[21:29] Subscribe to even toilet paper.
[21:31] Yeah.
[21:35] And Dorian don't either But even like I do So we'd sold our gym Equipment because we're like it's just sitting there Look we can We can stash that money for the next deposit We had a full commercial gym Set up that I used maybe twice
[21:53] It served us very well during COVID because all the genes shut down.
[21:57] And we got a lot more friends during that.
[22:00] We did.
[22:01] We wanted to use it.
[22:03] We went through and just worked out, okay, do we use it?
[22:06] Do we need it?
[22:07] Yeah.
[22:07] Sell, sell, sell, sell.
[22:08] We didn't have toys.
[22:10] We got rid of toys many years ago.
[22:12] Yeah.
[22:13] Because of the huge expense, the sitting there, and we rarely would use them when we did have them.
[22:20] But, yeah, the gym stuff was like we've always gone to the gym.
[22:23] Yeah.
[22:23] But this was another thing that's like, no, we don't need it.
[22:25] Get rid of it.
[22:26] Let's save that money.
[22:27] Because I want to be old and rich.
[22:30] Yeah.
[22:30] Well, not even old, but I'm like, well.
[22:32] But, you know, have that choice to be able to retire maybe early, enjoy life.
[22:37] Yeah.
[22:37] Well, we want to be retired in 10 years.
[22:39] Yeah.
[22:40] And that was another thing with Infinity.
[22:42] We came with a plan that we had thought of and said, is it achievable?
[22:49] And we got, yeah, it is.
[22:51] But you're going to have to go balls to the wall.
[22:52] Yeah.
[22:52] Yeah.
[22:53] Yeah, I thought we were going to do it.
[22:54] Yeah, we threw ourselves to you.
[22:57] We use Infinity Accounting.
[23:00] We use financial planners.
[23:04] Conveyances, lawyers.
[23:07] We set up SMSF.
[23:08] Yeah.
[23:09] Yeah.
[23:10] Mayank was awesome.
[23:11] Yeah, he was great.
[23:13] He actually really made me realise.
[23:15] So I thought we were doing all right.
[23:17] And when he put our super together and said, okay, if we don't do anything else with your super today, you just keep going as you are.
[23:25] He said, we'll work out what you'll have for when you retire.
[23:29] I thought, oh, we'll be all right.
[23:30] And as he broke it down, for today we wouldn't have had what you would need for today to spend a year.
[23:39] Yeah.
[23:39] Well, it's going to end up double pretty much.
[23:41] Yeah.
[23:42] Double.
[23:42] And that freaked me out.
[23:44] That worried me.
[23:45] I was like, well, this is crazy.
[23:47] Like how are people going to survive?
[23:49] Like.
[23:50] The way that he explained it to you and gave us the breakdown was mind-blowing.
[23:54] It was mind-blowing, yeah.
[23:56] He's so great with how he explains stuff.
[23:58] Because we had fallen for all the bullshit that has gone on with the scare tactics put out by the big funds about you don't have enough money, it's all on you, it's all like, and made it look like this...
[24:09] sort of beast that can't be tamed, whereas when it was broken down, it's like why isn't everybody?
[24:14] Yeah, that's right.
[24:15] If you have the funds sitting there available, why isn't everybody?
[24:19] Well, now the government's fucking totaled.
[24:25] Totaled that.
[24:26] So now that's.
[24:28] Well, hopefully.
[24:29] If they get voted out, then it's not going to... Yeah, look, who knows what's going to happen in the future.
[24:32] Who knows, right?
[24:33] Who knows?
[24:33] It's unfortunate of what they've done for the people who might be starting the journey today.
[24:37] Yeah, that's exactly right.
[24:38] Yeah.
[24:39] I'm sure you have a plan.
[24:40] Oh, trust me, Jerry already has a plan.
[24:42] Well, another thing that, like, pissed in the pocket of infinity, when that came out, within 48 hours, we had a meeting planned.
[24:50] Everybody joined on.
[24:51] And there was a footpath forward.
[24:54] Yeah.
[24:54] That we...
[24:55] Everything's so quick.
[24:56] We're fine, obviously.
[24:57] We've been set up, but we sat in that just as a curiosity factor.
[25:01] A bit of an education thing.
[25:02] Yeah, and we're just so impressed that Infinity as a whole, not just Judy, but Infinity as a whole cares about everybody and wants the best.
[25:10] Yeah.
[25:10] Yeah, it's really cool to watch.
[25:13] So going back to the home loan though and where you started when you signed up for the master class and you had this million dollars in the bank, you could have paid off the home loan, you know, before you even met us.
[25:23] Yeah.
[25:23] Why did you have it just sitting there?
[25:25] Why didn't you think to do that?
[25:27] One of our really close friends owns one of the biggest construction companies on the coast and we had planned to do some stuff with him but everything that we kept looking towards kept getting sort
[25:44] factors outside of our control that got pushed.
[25:47] So in the end we just had this money sitting there and it was earning us interest which is a pain in the ass because then we'd get a big tax bill.
[25:53] Yeah.
[25:53] So you're paying interest on the home.
[25:55] Yeah.
[25:55] Trying to earn interest on money that you're paying tax on.
[25:58] Then you're also going to use cash for investing.
[26:00] Completely wrong structure.
[26:02] But we were also, so we had decided we were going to buy two investment units.
[26:09] Yeah.
[26:09] Yeah.
[26:10] for us and our family to use.
[26:12] So we're like, we're just going to have them and we'll do them as like an Airbnb set up.
[26:16] Yep.
[26:16] And because all our families scattered all over the place and as I said, we'll allow it so they can come up.
[26:20] Like a communal area for all of us to get together.
[26:23] But then infinity.
[26:27] Then Rachel came along.
[26:28] Well, we came up with our 10-year goal was to be $20 million in net worth.
[26:36] Yeah.
[26:37] And that I think it came from another one of G's podcasts or discussions like –
[26:43] early, early on because he said most people go, I want to be a millionaire, but a millionaire is not much.
[26:48] What's a million dollars a year?
[26:49] Yeah, that's exactly right.
[26:50] And then all the other side of the spectrum is I want to be worth $100 million.
[26:54] Yeah.
[26:54] That's also ridiculous.
[26:56] Yeah.
[26:57] When I was young, I was obsessed with being absolutely filthy rich, but after being a dad that all changed.
[27:02] Yeah.
[27:03] And $20 million was amazing.
[27:07] Well, it is attainable.
[27:08] It is actually attainable.
[27:09] So how we figure that is like a $5 million owner-occupier, which would be a beautiful house and not too over the top, or like a really nice unit by the beach somewhere.
[27:22] And then if you've got every toy imaginable, so a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, jet skis, literally say a million dollars you spend on that, that's what, 14, 15 million worth of assets still paying you an income in retirement.
[27:41] And we've got lots of nieces and nephews and
[27:45] We really want to be able to help them out as we get older and give them a...
[27:49] So family is a really big thing for you, yeah.
[27:51] Because obviously we're already supporting dad at this point as well.
[27:54] But so your why is family.
[27:56] Yeah, absolutely.
[27:57] Although I hate that term.
[27:58] I know.
[28:00] I know.
[28:01] What you want.
[28:03] But, yeah.
[28:04] Come on.
[28:05] Infinity is not very cliche.
[28:07] You've got to use one cliche.
[28:09] Right.
[28:11] Yeah.
[28:11] But, yeah, yeah.
[28:12] We just want to make sure everyone's...
[28:14] Happy and healthy and looked after.
[28:16] Because they've all had different circumstances as to where they were there and positions that they're in.
[28:22] They've all worked hard.
[28:23] They've all done their thing.
[28:25] Just things may not have worked out how it has for us.
[28:30] Like J.O.
[28:31] says, it feels awesome giving and giving back.
[28:34] Because obviously he shares how he does that.
[28:36] Absolutely.
[28:37] Everybody rises with the incoming tides.
[28:39] Yeah.
[28:40] How's that for Clecia?
[28:41] Yeah.
[28:43] No, I'm kidding.
[28:44] Yes.
[28:45] Yeah.
[28:45] So, okay, you signed up from the masterclass.
[28:47] You've both taken away quite a bit from it even though, like you said from the beginning, you're not our typical infinity clients, but I still think that's really cool because you've taken away something so different from that and you can start that waterfall strategy now.
[29:00] Yep.
[29:00] So you signed up, you've been assigned me as your finance strategist.
[29:03] Yes.
[29:04] We were so stoked because we had seen a bit of you as well.
[29:08] We got the good one.
[29:09] Yeah.
[29:09] We were so stoked that you got allocated to us.
[29:12] Our bond with you was awesome from day one.
[29:14] Straight up from day one.
[29:15] Yeah.
[29:16] Yeah.
[29:16] We were chuffed.
[29:17] Very, very chuffed.
[29:19] Yeah.
[29:19] Yeah.
[29:19] So we've done, we've gone through the whole process, you know, breaking down all of your documents, your tax returns, your financials, looking at a little bit of complexity on your side with the self-employment.
[29:29] But ultimately you said like have to keep dad's house.
[29:32] We've got to pay that off as well.
[29:33] So that was always my main priority is we're going to get you debt free and we've got to get dad debt free.
[29:37] And there was one other that you allowed, which I don't know if G knows about this, but you let me keep my crypto.
[29:44] Yeah, I didn't argue that point too much.
[29:47] Because that got pushed aside.
[29:49] That has done very well and that's like a...
[29:52] a maybe nest egg if it happens i'm not done arguing that point but i let it go for that round it's okay so we've paid off the home loan straight away i was like that million dollars has to go to paying off the home loans we had 750 gone straight away then we've significantly reduced dad's debt as well yeah then our focus was paying down dad's debt yeah and then talk me through what the rest of your first 90 days look like
[30:15] Say.
[30:15] Paperwork.
[30:17] Yeah.
[30:17] Yes.
[30:17] Whatever I can say.
[30:19] Paperwork, emails.
[30:20] But done really well.
[30:22] Yeah, very well.
[30:23] Like most of it.
[30:23] Yeah.
[30:23] Like most of it.
[30:26] So awesome being, like when we gave everything to Infini and said we were all in, you guys took care of everything.
[30:32] Yeah.
[30:33] Simplicity, you know.
[30:34] Yeah, all the like research, everything that we needed to be comfortable with the decisions was already done.
[30:41] Yep.
[30:42] Like I said, we, so at the REM we met Mark.
[30:47] Yeah.
[30:49] And I actually met him by the ice cream machine.
[30:54] When I should have been listening.
[30:56] And we just started chatting.
[30:57] I had no idea who he was and we got along quite well.
[31:00] And then I saw him on stage and I was like, Jerry, that's that guy I was talking about.
[31:05] And after he got off stage, I went and just bear hugged him.
[31:08] I was like, you're going to be my accountant.
[31:11] Yeah.
[31:11] He was like, okay, let's do it.
[31:13] Yeah.
[31:13] Yeah.
[31:14] Yeah, so we ended up using absolutely everything from Infinity.
[31:20] Yeah, because I didn't really love how your tax returns or your tax affairs were being managed at the time, so it was good that, you know, you'd moved over to him.
[31:27] Oh, absolutely.
[31:28] It's been a game changer.
[31:30] Yeah.
[31:30] Honestly, I lost a lot of sleep over my last accountant.
[31:34] Yeah.
[31:34] Because we had a bit of tax debt too.
[31:36] We had to tidy up as well when you first came on board.
[31:38] Yeah.
[31:39] Yeah, so honestly, yeah, Mark's a godsend to be honest.
[31:43] Yeah.
[31:44] He's great.
[31:44] He's a contactable for us all the time.
[31:46] This is probably a bad promo for him.
[31:47] He doesn't want to be contactable.
[31:48] But, like, again, we built a really good relationship with him immediately.
[31:52] Yeah.
[31:52] And he's just been awesome.
[31:54] He has.
[31:54] He would take my call any time.
[31:55] Yeah, he's phenomenal.
[31:56] Yeah, yeah, and just give me advice and I don't get a $300 bill for a two-minute phone call.
[32:01] You know, like, he's just been so good.
[32:04] Everyone from, we cannot praise everyone for infinity enough.
[32:08] I think what's great is you have this umbrella of people that we wouldn't know how to seek.
[32:14] Yeah.
[32:15] But at least you've got this umbrella of people where we just say, here's our stuff and you all work well together.
[32:22] So that takes out a lot of stress.
[32:24] Yeah.
[32:24] A lot of stress and a lot of time too because you're all communicating with one another.
[32:28] Yeah.
[32:29] So it's, yeah.
[32:30] We're confident.
[32:31] We were confident from day one because obviously infinity has such a reputation now to uphold and you wouldn't introduce...
[32:40] shitty people into the organization.
[32:43] So we, yeah, we, and there's options too.
[32:47] Like we didn't have to choose Mark.
[32:48] There's other options, but, you know, there's people that suit certain personalities and we found our tribe.
[32:55] Yeah, that's right.
[32:56] Yeah.
[32:57] Yeah, he's our person.
[33:00] And talk to me because you went to a REM as well within the first 90 days, which I thank Louis for getting that along.
[33:07] Just got that.
[33:09] We wanted that too.
[33:10] I know.
[33:10] You guys are so eager.
[33:13] We made our mind up, let's do this.
[33:15] Let's get in.
[33:16] We just missed the previous REM, which would have got us there like within 30 days or something like that.
[33:21] Yeah, it would have been so fast.
[33:23] But we just missed that because it was difficult for me to have time that would line up.
[33:29] So, yeah, that was a fact of it.
[33:31] We just pushed, pushed, pushed to get there.
[33:33] Yeah.
[33:34] Because also, too, you get FOMO.
[33:36] You start seeing once you're invested in it and you've made the decision, you start seeing the other REMs on.
[33:43] Everyone else's fortune and, yeah.
[33:44] And REM is just such a well-run...
[33:48] It's a vibe too.
[33:49] The vibes, mate.
[33:50] We're being cliché around now.
[33:54] I hate saying that, but it was.
[33:55] It was just everyone there was having fun.
[33:58] Everyone was learning.
[33:59] There wasn't any problematic people there.
[34:04] No one was whinging.
[34:06] I think for me the number one thing was seeing real people.
[34:10] Yeah, absolutely.
[34:11] Talking to real people, having real conversations, you know, similar stories going, wow, like we're all the same kind of people.
[34:18] We've all been put together because of infinity.
[34:21] Yeah.
[34:22] Working out our future.
[34:23] Yeah.
[34:23] And everything was put on, like no expenses.
[34:26] Yeah.
[34:28] We watched some people that don't do well with free alcohol.
[34:33] Or free chocolate bars or free energy drinks.
[34:37] The chocolate.
[34:37] Yeah, I did take a few chocolate bars myself.
[34:40] Do you know if they run out like, I'm not even kidding, by like Saturday midday and we're not even like through the whole event yet and I'm like we've already just eaten them out of all their chocolate.
[34:52] Like it's so crazy.
[34:53] It's crazy.
[34:53] That's crazy.
[34:56] Yeah, I do like a Kit Kat.
[34:57] You do like a Kit Kat.
[34:59] But even our little pack, the generosity from infinity across the board.
[35:04] Even to our room.
[35:05] So the gifts on arrival.
[35:06] Yep.
[35:08] Like we were sent things for our birthday for our congratulations for paying off your mortgage.
[35:16] Paying off our mortgage.
[35:17] Yeah.
[35:18] We don't drink wine and we got sent 26 cartons of wine as a gift from the community.
[35:28] Yeah, a certain property, yeah.
[35:31] It looks really cool in our house.
[35:33] But we got Christmas hampers.
[35:36] When the new energy drinks got released, we got scent samples.
[35:39] Yeah.
[35:40] And not one, like cartons.
[35:42] Yeah.
[35:43] The constant gifts, it's, yeah, you really feel like part of the family.
[35:49] Yeah.
[35:49] Yeah.
[35:51] It doesn't go unnoticed, that sort of thing.
[35:52] Yeah.
[35:53] That's awesome.
[35:54] And so we've paid off the home.
[35:55] That was easy because you had the cash there.
[35:57] Significantly paid down Dad's home.
[35:59] What have we done to date with Dad's home?
[36:01] Yeah.
[36:02] So we sit that now at $100,000 because we have an agreement which is minimal rent to cover that.
[36:10] And so that's evenly geared.
[36:12] So it's not a factor.
[36:14] But it's technically paid off.
[36:15] We just kept the loan off.
[36:16] Yes.
[36:17] Because we want to be able to then debt recycle that where we can just keep using it for further investing.
[36:22] Yeah.
[36:22] Yeah.
[36:24] We're there and we've got five other investment properties.
[36:27] Yeah.
[36:28] And hopefully soon to be six.
[36:29] So we've now saved well and truly over what we were told, what Lukey told us.
[36:34] That you'd be able to save.
[36:35] Let's just be chipping away.
[36:37] We had an argument one day.
[36:38] You're going to ask me for a strategy review, aren't you?
[36:41] I think you do for one anyway.
[36:43] Yeah, I just want more.
[36:44] I just went for a couple of properties to settle and I'm like, come on.
[36:47] Save some more money.
[36:49] We're on FaceTime and he's like, the bloody hell you're doing?
[36:52] I said, oh.
[36:53] Max has some holes in his socks.
[36:55] I'm sewing them up.
[36:56] He's like, buy the kids some new socks.
[36:58] I said, it's not in our budget.
[37:00] Oh, my God.
[37:00] So we were just trying to save a dollar, weren't we?
[37:02] That shows Cherry's age a bit there.
[37:03] She's got her own sewing machine.
[37:08] I love that, though, because you are bad debt free.
[37:10] We've paid off Dad's home as well, but you're still sticking to an FFF.
[37:14] You're still sticking to a budget.
[37:15] We are.
[37:15] Why is that so important?
[37:18] Because we've seen what we can get now.
[37:20] Yeah, and we enjoy the structure, I think.
[37:22] Yeah, I think so.
[37:23] Do we actually need that?
[37:24] We actually don't.
[37:25] That can wait.
[37:26] You're a lot better than me.
[37:29] So because I spend a lot of time away and Cherry's very strict with like meal prepping and doing the right thing, and then I come home and I'm like, we're getting out to dinner.
[37:41] We ate out last night and the night before.
[37:43] So the FFF gets a smashing.
[37:46] When you're only a month.
[37:47] Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[37:49] It accumulates so high.
[37:50] We're on 700 a week.
[37:53] We originally, when we looked at it, we're like, it's going to have to be 800 because, and then you focus down, you're like, come on, guys, it's three of you.
[38:01] Yeah.
[38:01] So we agreed to 700.
[38:03] We're significantly less than that.
[38:05] Yes.
[38:05] Definitely.
[38:05] But what we've been doing is letting that accumulate and instead of sweeping it into the vault, we have been using that for when we have planned holidays.
[38:14] Yeah.
[38:14] So that's our excess.
[38:15] So at least we feel we're.
[38:16] That excess spending.
[38:17] Yeah.
[38:17] Yeah.
[38:17] Yeah.
[38:18] Yeah.
[38:18] And that's been important.
[38:20] Yeah, it's been important because once that, it's funny, but when we spend it, it feels like we're not spending it.
[38:24] It's like, no, that's disposable anyway.
[38:26] Yeah.
[38:27] That doesn't matter.
[38:28] We've already allocated it to the FFF.
[38:29] That's exactly right.
[38:30] And if you're accumulating that for the extra spending money on the holidays, you're not taking it out of the vault, as you said.
[38:35] Yeah.
[38:36] I would like to, it would be interesting.
[38:38] I won't do it, but I would like to be interesting to see how low we actually could go.
[38:44] Why won't we do it?
[38:45] Come on.
[38:45] I think we could.
[38:46] The jury's up for it.
[38:49] There's no immediate need.
[38:51] Like we're so well on track at the moment and we've got everything in place that it's not 100% necessary.
[39:00] I like takeaway food too much.
[39:03] It's never going to be ridiculously low.
[39:05] Like some of the other clients, like unreal how low they can get.
[39:10] Yeah.
[39:10] But we're also very fortunate.
[39:12] We do have a very good income.
[39:13] Yes.
[39:14] Yeah.
[39:15] And you're also bad debt-free as well.
[39:17] So I think that especially when you are because you do work away and you can come home and that can just be like a little indulgence for you.
[39:22] Yeah, but it's nice.
[39:23] You work hard for it, you know, so.
[39:25] Camp food.
[39:26] Yeah, I was going to say the food's probably pretty shit when you're away.
[39:29] Yeah.
[39:30] I've been doing Firefox nearly 15 years.
[39:32] Yeah.
[39:34] Yeah, the salads and toasted sandwiches get a bit rough after a while.
[39:39] But at least we know we could do it.
[39:42] Yeah.
[39:42] We could.
[39:43] But I still think you're sticking to something, right?
[39:45] Yeah, yeah, that's exactly right.
[39:46] Especially when we never had a budget.
[39:48] So I'm actually quite enjoying it because it's like, you know, save that dollar.
[39:53] And how are you navigating FIFA life now?
[39:57] I think because we've got our finances together and we actually sat down and talked like adults.
[40:02] There's been times where we just haven't spoken.
[40:04] Should we talk like adults?
[40:05] Well, you know it a lot.
[40:08] I'm such a child.
[40:09] But it's having that and then putting the structure in place has been awesome for our relationship.
[40:15] Yeah.
[40:15] Also too because...
[40:17] But feeling a part of the finance stuff too because it's always been over my head and I think Benji just thought, well, there's no point talking to you about it because you don't understand.
[40:26] Yeah.
[40:26] But then I was like, well, that's not fair.
[40:28] That's not fair.
[40:29] Help me understand.
[40:30] But I think doing this whole process, it's been awesome because now I actually understand stuff, you know, and it's made me eager to, yeah.
[40:39] I've got the patience.
[40:40] Of a goldfish.
[40:42] So when we were trying to teach Cherry to drive, she didn't get her licence until she was 32.
[40:49] 32.
[40:49] Do you know I still can't drive manual, so I'll put myself in that.
[40:55] Trying to explain something that to me was really simple and Cherry not understanding would do my head in.
[41:03] So we'd end up not even like Cherry's not combative, so, well, sometimes.
[41:08] But she wouldn't argue the point.
[41:10] She'd just go quiet and just leave it.
[41:12] Yeah, shut down.
[41:13] Yeah, and so this has been excellent to have her involved because for a while there too we did have, well, for a huge amount of time, many, many, many years, we had completely separate finances.
[41:23] Yeah.
[41:24] That's something that, you know, every client says with Infinity to you that Graeme says, no, no, no, you've got to be, if you want to be in Infinity, you are doing it as a team.
[41:33] Yeah.
[41:34] What does he really say?
[41:36] There's lots of fucks in there.
[41:39] Share bodily fluids and then share bank accounts.
[41:44] That one.
[41:44] Yes, yes.
[41:45] I just wanted to hear you say it.
[41:49] Well, we don't.
[41:50] We're too old for that.
[41:52] Flat out getting it.
[41:53] Oh, you've done it at least once.
[41:54] That's why the distance is out of there.
[41:56] Don't touch me.
[41:58] So what does the future look like?
[42:01] We're hoping, well, I'm hoping, Cherry's happy on the path where I want 10 properties.
[42:08] I've got it in my head.
[42:09] He's always had it.
[42:11] He's always had that ballpark.
[42:12] Because it entered there because of the doctor couple, that beautiful couple.
[42:19] Oh, Stephen Suen.
[42:20] Yes, yeah.
[42:21] So when they said at REM you can get on top of the two that you own you can purchase five more.
[42:31] I was like, oh, I was hoping I'd get ten.
[42:37] But that's where it went because it made it possible.
[42:39] Like it put in our head that that was possible.
[42:42] Then Kerry-Ann has 20...
[42:46] She had 23 at one point, but we've scaled down to get her penthouse in the room at Main Beach.
[42:51] So good.
[42:52] Just hearing those numbers and seeing it.
[42:53] Actually, that's something that we didn't bring up.
[42:56] In REM, one of the things that I appreciated the most, or two things actually, so one was the data, just raw data from Doc.
[43:04] Yep.
[43:06] And that was your time to shine at Rem at the time.
[43:08] Now you're the king of the castle.
[43:10] I get to do a lot more at Rem now, yeah.
[43:11] But I still have to wrangle him in too, yeah.
[43:13] Yeah, yeah.
[43:14] But was Graeme showing all his properties?
[43:17] Yeah.
[43:18] And showing what he has done himself?
[43:19] Like he walks the walk and talks the talk.
[43:23] He's got it.
[43:25] And that then put it.
[43:27] In our heads, well, mine at least, that this is possible.
[43:30] Yeah.
[43:31] I could be as successful as that.
[43:34] Like, yeah.
[43:35] So really rewarding experience to see that.
[43:38] Yeah, it was.
[43:38] And really appreciated the transparency there, which then goes across the board in everything that we do.
[43:45] Yeah.
[43:46] With Infinity.
[43:46] Yeah.
[43:47] Yeah.
[43:47] Yeah, the data I think is the most important part and him showing what he does and also what a lot of clients do.
[43:52] And, you know, we keep adding to the education as well.
[43:55] And something we've done recently was sharing a story of a property that he'd sold to clients like 10 years ago.
[44:01] I think it's even 12 years ago now that, you know, you had to wait.
[44:05] It was in Queensland.
[44:06] Yeah.
[44:06] Queensland didn't have their, you know, room until probably COVID.
[44:10] And it was like staying the course to see.
[44:13] from here to here to here to here what that property did and those buyers had to be quite patient for a long time but then because they were, they've done so, more than 100% return on investment.
[44:25] So the new cycle too was crazy.
[44:28] So watching all the doom and gloom and the hopium and the doom and gloom and the hopium, watching those cycles, which is actually what's happening right now I reckon.
[44:37] We're in that new cycle now.
[44:38] We're in the doom cycle.
[44:40] At least we understand it.
[44:42] I can't remember.
[44:42] I'll butcher the actual figures here.
[44:44] But it was the three times in the last 30 years that the property markets dipped.
[44:50] You're so close.
[44:50] Four in 39 years.
[44:51] Is it?
[44:53] Yeah.
[44:55] But the maximum dip was 5.5%, I think.
[44:57] Spot on.
[44:58] But the previous year before that was something like 13% to 15%.
[45:02] Yeah.
[45:03] So the steady growth that if you calculate it on average,
[45:09] It speaks for itself.
[45:10] Yeah.
[45:11] And you just have to stay the course.
[45:13] Infinity is not a quick fix.
[45:15] Yeah.
[45:16] If anyone's watching this back and thinking, oh, these stories sound too good or true, it's quick.
[45:21] It's not.
[45:21] I mean, we're, again, in a slightly different situation.
[45:24] But these other people that have been clients for three, four, ten years, like COVID had a massive positive impact for a lot of people with property.
[45:34] We did too.
[45:34] Like our properties obviously went up.
[45:37] during that time and when we sold we made like a $600,000 gain for us was insane because the two properties that we had held for over a decade, we made $100,000 on each of them for a decade and then made $600,000 at the drop of a hat.
[45:53] Yeah, on our family home.
[45:55] Yeah, and we had only had that for two and a half years.
[45:59] Yeah, absolutely.
[46:00] But nobody should be going into property hoping for that, you know, quick money to be made.
[46:05] It takes time.
[46:06] It's always going to take time.
[46:08] I think that's – I did an exercise recently and we now show this at REM as well because, you know, a lot of people are always just looking at that quick fix, that quick money to be made.
[46:17] Yeah.
[46:17] That's what they all want, right?
[46:18] That's what they all think too.
[46:19] You know, a lot of people whinge then about, oh, I've got to put $100 a week into this property, you know.
[46:23] It's like – but then they don't look at the bigger picture of the capital.
[46:26] Yeah.
[46:26] So I've broken down like Megan and Jeremy's portfolio because they've been clients for almost the entire time that Infinity's been around.
[46:31] So they're a great example to show like I think I did it over like an eight-year period for them where they'd made like nearly $2 million on like six properties.
[46:40] Does that show in the end too how much it compounds the longer it goes?
[46:45] Like so it starts off as a little bit and then like the longer obviously you'd spend, you know, just...
[46:51] Yeah, because we can show every year what that property was worth, right?
[46:56] We're looking at over an average six to eight years that they've held these properties for and then they finally sold to start moving on to some other goals because they've moved up here now and they've got a waterfront apartment themselves and wanted to have that paid off.
[47:10] But it's like showing them like when they bought what the rent was, what it was a couple of years later, a couple of years later, and also what the capital was as they went along.
[47:17] You can see your rent constantly went up, your capital constantly went up, and when they sold, they're banking nearly $2 million.
[47:23] Do you really care that you maybe had to put $100 a week into the property?
[47:27] Really?
[47:27] That's a pretty good outcome.
[47:28] It's exciting to watch that.
[47:29] And then that breeds the real push in you again to want to keep going, yeah.
[47:38] Yeah.
[47:38] Absolutely.
[47:38] Is that why we're still pushing forward with FIFO Life?
[47:42] Yeah, there is a horizon there.
[47:44] Yeah.
[47:45] Hopefully.
[47:46] So I've got to get you another three more to get you off my back.
[47:49] We don't want to be working that much longer.
[47:50] Yeah.
[47:51] We want to...
[47:52] Enjoy life.
[47:53] Yeah, enjoy it.
[47:53] Together.
[47:54] Yeah.
[47:55] And not be separated.
[47:55] Because we've started going on.
[47:57] I'm...
[47:58] Cherry loves travelling because I've done FIFO for so long.
[48:02] It does my head in airports.
[48:03] You want a base.
[48:04] Yeah, I like being in it.
[48:07] The house that we've now built is absolutely stunning and I just like being in it.
[48:13] Yeah.
[48:14] But Cherry obviously spends all the time there and likes to be out and about.
[48:16] So she wants to get away, yeah.
[48:17] Well, I'm quite the opposite.
[48:18] I like to go and do so.
[48:19] I cannot.
[48:20] She can't sit still for more than 10 seconds, can't watch a movie, can't wait.
[48:24] So this nice movie.
[48:25] But I have come around a lot there too now.
[48:29] And that's something that, I mean, we just went on a $30,000 holiday to America and it wasn't, that hasn't affected our goals in any way, shape or form.
[48:38] And we're going to Thailand next month.
[48:40] Like it's everything.
[48:43] Everything just feels a lot more secure now and we know that we're headed in the right direction.
[48:48] We know that we've got the backing of infinity the whole way.
[48:52] Yeah.
[48:52] There's a lot more confidence behind what we're doing now.
[48:55] Yeah.
[48:55] And how does your property journey now compare to the property journey pre-infinity?
[48:59] Because you were doing some things on your own.
[49:02] We were.
[49:02] We never realised the potential.
[49:04] We didn't have structure or really.
[49:06] Yeah, we didn't realise the potential either.
[49:08] I'm happy.
[49:08] I'm stoked where we are but I just keep moving the goalposts.
[49:11] Yeah.
[49:11] I just like...
[49:13] I don't really have a goal.
[49:14] It's still the $20 million, but, like, if that's being able to push the needle a bit further again too, then we want to do it.
[49:21] And, like, we have a fairly high risk tolerance now to just go all in because we know what our time horizon is.
[49:30] So, yeah, everything's positive.
[49:33] The whole experience from start to finish besides the Q&A.
[49:39] There's been nothing but positive and we're super excited about where it's going to end up.
[49:44] Absolutely.
[49:45] I think if anyone is worrying or not sure whether to take the leap, I was there.
[49:52] And honestly, it's the best thing we've ever done and I wish we did it earlier, to be honest.
[49:56] That's a regret.
[49:57] Yeah.
[49:57] That we didn't find you earlier.
[49:59] Yeah.
[50:00] And, like, if we had had this sort of structure when COVID had gone and we were able to take advantage of that growth period,
[50:09] We could honestly probably have a $40 million goal.
[50:12] That's probably ridiculous.
[50:13] But maybe have a different goal to work towards.
[50:21] Yeah.
[50:22] It's definitely doable, definitely.
[50:24] And I think anyone thinking of it, just take the leap and just try.
[50:29] Just see.
[50:30] Approach you guys and see how.
[50:32] Take advantage of the free webinar.
[50:35] Free webinar, yeah.
[50:36] It was free and some people might find Graham to be an absolute peanut.
[50:40] Like you may not see everybody.
[50:43] Why do you think you've brought me on board?
[50:45] There are many people in the world who do not like me.
[50:47] So I completely understand that, you know, everyone's not for everyone else.
[50:53] Yeah.
[50:54] But regardless, he's honest.
[50:54] You don't have anything to lose because you will either walk away with some free information that...
[51:01] And make small changes.
[51:02] Yep.
[51:03] Start that way.
[51:03] Yeah.
[51:04] Or you might have found your tribe.
[51:07] You may have really clicked and fully understood some financial information for the first time and then been welcomed open arms into what this is.
[51:18] Amazing.
[51:19] Guys, thank you so much for coming to share your story.
[51:21] Is there anything else you want to add before we wrap up?
[51:23] I just want to thank you.
[51:25] Yeah, absolutely.
[51:26] For everything.
[51:26] For everything.
[51:27] Yeah, definitely.
[51:29] You have always been contactable.
[51:32] You've always gotten back to us.
[51:34] We know how flat out you are because we see all this going on in the background.
[51:40] We really genuinely appreciate our friendship with you.
[51:44] Likewise.
[51:45] Yeah, it's been awesome and you've been a huge part of that.
[51:48] Yeah, you have.
[51:49] Absolutely.
[51:50] Indeed.
[51:50] Very, very thankful.
[51:52] Very thankful.
[51:53] Well, keep at it because I'll definitely want to get you back for a part two just to see how far you've come and if we do get closer to your 10 properties, which we're not that far off.
[52:02] So, yeah.
[52:03] Keep at it, guys.
[52:04] Awesome.
[52:04] Thank you.
[52:05] Thank you so much.
