In this episode of "The Money Mentor," Rachel sits down with Jeff and Denise, two healthcare professionals who, on paper, had done everything right - solid careers, no bad debt, and a cherished family home they'd built themselves. But after decades of hard work, they couldn't shake the feeling they weren't actually getting anywhere. They'd tried to chart their own course - selling an investment property just before it took off, setting up an SMSF with the wrong guidance, and absorbing endless books and podcasts that left them with more confusion than clarity. Then six years ago, Denise found Infinity, and Jeff, seeing the shift in her thinking, was quickly on board too. Denise likens their old approach to driving with an old paper map for directions, unsure if you're even headed the right way. With Infinity, she says, it's more like having a chauffeur - you simply say where you want to go, and they figure out how to get you there. The results speak for themselves: credit cards cleared, a proper budget in place, four investment properties, and a fully paid-off family home. They haven't stopped living either, travelling extensively with full confidence and zero guilt. Jeff and Denise share their story of success and how finding Infinity gave them access to expert advice and changed their family’s forever. ## Transcript

[0:00] So you've had a finance strategist, a wealth strategist and a relationship manager.
[0:04] We have a very different service offering to a lot of people in the industry.
[0:07] So why is it so important for you guys to have so many different people in your team?
[0:11] I explained it like when it was just us doing it, it's like Jeff's driving and I'm sitting there with an old map trying to give us directions and, you know, go a few wrong directions.
[0:24] When you've got, you know, your relationship finance strategist and your wealth strategist working for you, you're getting chauffeur driven.
[0:31] You kind of tell them where you want to go and they show you how to get there.
[0:35] Yeah, and they'll sort of tailor it to what you want but never overstretch you.
[0:40] Yeah.
[0:41] Yeah.
[0:41] Which is always a very important thing.
[0:43] And when you're working full-time, you know, earning an income and finance isn't your business, it's very hard to be across all of those things.
[0:51] So that's where it became really easy and, you know, being able to link in with them and ask questions.
[0:56] I feel like we're being chauffeur-driven but we're still directing where we want to go.
[1:01] We just have a lot of people helping us get there.
[1:03] Someone else is...
[1:05] you know, changing the tires or whatever.
[1:07] That's a good analogy.
[1:08] I like it.
[1:10] Money isn't root of all evil.
[1:11] The fucking lack of it is money.
[1:14] The lack of understanding money.
[1:15] When I put that into emphasis, when I realize that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I FDB all the fucking way.
[1:28] Jeff and Denise did almost everything right.
[1:31] Two careers in healthcare, no real debt, and still somehow they felt like they were getting nowhere.
[1:38] Three adult kids, a home they'd built themselves, but no momentum or strategy.
[1:44] Mistakes were made.
[1:45] They'd sold an investment property right before the growth came, set up an SMSF with someone who didn't really understand property, read the books, listened to the podcasts, and ended up with more conflicting opinions than clarity.
[1:58] They had income.
[1:59] They had assets.
[2:01] What they didn't have was a plan that actually connected the two.
[2:05] What they needed was structured guidance built around their actual position.
[2:11] Then came Infinity to do just that.
[2:15] Before they knew it, the credit cards were cleared.
[2:18] They put a real budget in place, purchased four investment properties, and their home, mortgage-free.
[2:24] And they never stopped living.
[2:26] Extensive travel, full confidence, no guilt.
[2:30] And now the conversation has moved beyond their own retirement, with two of their children on track to join Infinity by the middle of next year.
[2:39] Jeff and Denise didn't need to start over.
[2:42] They just needed a plan.
[2:46] Welcome back to the Money Mentor Podcast, where we have another episode of Changing Lives Financially.
[2:51] Today, we have the lovely couple, Jeff and Denise.
[2:54] How are we guys?
[2:55] Good, thank you.
[2:56] How are you?
[2:56] I'm amazing.
[2:57] So happy to have you guys here.
[2:59] Thank you.
[2:59] We're feeling a bit nervous, a bit excited.
[3:01] Yes.
[3:01] A bit of both.
[3:02] A bit of both.
[3:03] Like I said, it's all about you guys and your story that you're going to share with the community.
[3:07] So tell me, let's start off with telling me a bit about yourselves and your family, the dynamics, all the journey before infinity.
[3:14] Okay, well, we met at university.
[3:17] That was just on 35 years ago now.
[3:19] We've been married for 29 years.
[3:22] We live in Sydney.
[3:23] We've got three adult kids, 26, 24 and 22.
[3:27] And we've got two dogs, a Cavoodle and a miniature Grudel.
[3:30] You look like a very close family too.
[3:32] Yes, yes, we are.
[3:34] We do a lot together.
[3:36] And then our journey basically is before infinity, we always had an interest in property.
[3:46] We did a lot of book reading, book reading.
[3:50] and listening to podcasts with things like The Wrong Foot Investor.
[3:55] And we tried to basically, we had bought property, sold property, not necessarily the right or wrong way.
[4:03] Like we didn't manage to make money on it, but it was always difficult while we worked full time.
[4:09] Like our jobs aren't in finance, they're in health and finance.
[4:14] finding the time and the effort required to actually really be on top of it was difficult.
[4:19] Yeah.
[4:20] Because you had a home at this stage when you were really getting into that.
[4:23] When did you buy a home?
[4:23] So we bought it when we were younger.
[4:25] So we actually worked a couple of jobs, you know, five days a week to save for a wedding and a deposit.
[4:31] And then we got our dream home.
[4:32] It was our goal at the time.
[4:34] And we were going to fill it with kids and, you know, and we're there ever since.
[4:38] Yeah.
[4:38] So instead of our PPR.
[4:39] So you only had the one home.
[4:40] One home, yeah.
[4:41] Yeah.
[4:41] So I always tell Denise instead of our PPR, it was our PPE, you know, primary place of entertainment.
[4:49] So, yeah, with the three kids it's filled it up nicely.
[4:53] Yeah, and then as we said, we did have a couple of properties that we'd kind of tried to get some advice with.
[5:00] One of them sold for exactly what we bought it for.
[5:03] How long did you have it for?
[5:05] Oh, about 15 years.
[5:07] Oh, wow.
[5:07] But just in a no-growth area, it didn't really work for us at all.
[5:11] And then we had also bought one.
[5:14] In the Brisbane area, which we kept for probably longer than we should, we did make money on it that we were able to help pay off our principal place of residence at the time.
[5:28] So you already had that mindset that that was something you would do if you sold it?
[5:32] Yeah.
[5:32] We wanted to sell it by a certain age, you know.
[5:35] And I think the time we sold it, it was a single mum living in that place at the time and we wanted to help her as well, you know, and she ended up buying the place.
[5:43] Oh, wow.
[5:44] So it was waiting for her to get her finances in order, you know, just to give her the time to do that.
[5:48] So it was good to do.
[5:50] So it worked out well for both of us.
[5:52] Yeah, yeah.
[5:52] And so that's all we'd really done at our journey at that point.
[5:55] We'd bought the home, had a mortgage, and then the two investment properties.
[5:59] Yeah, so we, as I said, we sold one of them, which was in rural New South Wales, and then the Brisbane one.
[6:07] We did have a financial advisor that helped us with our super, so we did set up a super, self-managed super fund.
[6:14] Yep.
[6:16] We were the one that instigated property conversations with him.
[6:19] So they didn't suggest it to you?
[6:21] No.
[6:21] And we were very high risk at the time because we wanted properties instead of shares, so we had to sign this paperwork to say, you know, you're a high risk client, just so you're aware of that.
[6:30] Put it all back on you.
[6:31] Yeah, yeah.
[6:32] He was honest.
[6:33] He said he has no expertise in property.
[6:35] So he got somebody else to come in and offer us properties.
[6:38] He did help us set up the trust as we needed to and things like that and was very helpful that way.
[6:45] But, yeah, he was very open.
[6:47] I don't have this expertise, so you could just sign the high-risk category and take the onus that it's useful.
[6:53] That it's on you guys.
[6:54] Yeah.
[6:55] Yeah.
[6:55] So, yeah, we had kind of actually made some steps in the right direction.
[7:01] Well, we think, yeah.
[7:02] We definitely had property in mind.
[7:06] But we still knew there was more, if that makes sense.
[7:08] So I spent a lot of time listening to podcasts and trying to read books and trying to find out information and we'd have discussions around it, but we just didn't quite know how to get there.
[7:20] Yeah.
[7:20] Okay.
[7:20] Talk to me about having three kids, very busy healthcare careers.
[7:23] What did life look like from a managing our money perspective?
[7:27] Did we budget?
[7:28] Was that a word we ever spoke about?
[7:30] No, it's not something we spoke about.
[7:31] We weren't frivolous with our money, but we didn't have a strict budget.
[7:35] And if we wanted something, we'd get it because we sort of had the money there.
[7:38] Yeah.
[7:40] Because you don't know, we had a certain amount of money coming out for the mortgage each month, and that's just what we knew we had to have money for.
[7:48] And so there was really no budget.
[7:49] That minimum of payment.
[7:50] Yeah.
[7:51] I mean, the kids were heavily involved with sport and that sort of thing, so a lot of time went to that.
[7:56] And a lot of money really went to that.
[7:57] Like we had three national swimmers.
[8:00] That's incredible.
[8:01] They did a lot of travelling.
[8:03] Yeah, not cheap.
[8:04] Yeah, a lot of competitions and things like that.
[8:07] So there was a lot of money.
[8:09] Like no regrets because I think sport and time management and things were great assets.
[8:14] They were all very happy, healthy type thing.
[8:17] We just paid what we needed to pay.
[8:19] Yep.
[8:20] And we had a little bit of savings but it wasn't,
[8:24] in the position that we are in today.
[8:25] Yeah.
[8:27] Where they weren't spoiled.
[8:28] We didn't buy them a lot of toys and things like that unnecessarily, but they didn't go without either.
[8:33] Yeah, they didn't go without either.
[8:34] Yeah, yeah.
[8:36] And talk to me about the journey leading up to then finding Infinity because you'd kind of done some things on your own, as you said, trying to do that research on your own and finding the time to do it, meeting some advisors.
[8:46] How did you find Infinity and what did all that look like?
[8:48] Yeah.
[8:49] That was just an issue.
[8:51] So I'm the one who found Infinity.
[8:53] So I, a couple of years ago, as I said, we both work in health, I took a job or a cancer centre opened up in Dubbo, which is where I grew up in my hometown.
[9:03] So I convinced my husband.
[9:05] or asked him nicely what he thought about if I took a job in Dubbo.
[9:08] Yeah.
[9:09] My parents, they were separated but they both still lived in Dubbo and it just gave me an opportunity to see them a bit more often because I could see them weekly rather than... Yeah.
[9:19] And our kids were a bit older.
[9:21] And to get out there I basically take a train each week, each direction.
[9:26] It's just a cheaper form of transport.
[9:28] Yeah.
[9:29] And I would listen to podcasts and...
[9:33] read books and stuff.
[9:34] And then- Great way to spend the time, right?
[9:36] Yeah.
[9:36] And Graham come up in the feed, you know, once you start listening to those podcasts and that.
[9:40] So I was out in Dubbo, so I listened to the webinar and I could see value in it.
[9:47] So signed us up.
[9:49] He hadn't even sat it yet.
[9:52] But then we talked about it the next morning because it went quite late.
[9:55] It wasn't, you know, because Graham was on and it was once a, you know, wasn't as often an hour.
[10:02] You can get them on 24-7.
[10:04] You know, it was you had to be on when you're on.
[10:06] It went late because he gets excited and talks through the topic.
[10:09] And so the next morning I spoke to Geoff about it and said that I'd signed us up.
[10:15] And he was on board with it because we did want to, you know, investigate what else we could do.
[10:21] And then we talked about the fact it was a two-day masterclass.
[10:26] But, you know, he was quite happy to sit through it and see what we could do.
[10:30] Yeah, and initially, you know, you're not sure if it's a scam.
[10:32] Like everyone else, you think, you know, this is too good to be true.
[10:36] Yeah.
[10:36] What's the catch?
[10:37] And you're trying to look for things like that, you know.
[10:39] When we went with the barefoot investor or the wrongfoot investor, you know, we got a pillow at the time, you know, and that's probably the only thing we got out of it.
[10:46] Oh, but somebody mentioned this in the podcast yesterday and I was like, because I read this pre-Working for Infinity and Finding Infinity and it made me remember that, yes, he does talk about a pillow in this book.
[10:55] Yeah, because you meant to get a good night's sleep.
[10:56] Yeah.
[10:57] But how can you get a good night's sleep if you're financially stressed?
[10:59] Yeah.
[10:59] You know, it just doesn't make sense.
[11:01] Yeah.
[11:02] So, yeah, initially thought it was a scam.
[11:04] And then when we got into the weekend, it was, yeah, it just made sense.
[11:08] Yeah.
[11:08] So simple.
[11:09] And what made you trust the decision after Denise did the worm nub on her own?
[11:15] Well, I suppose both of our goals are aligned, you know, and so I trust that, you know, she'll do the right thing for us and for the family.
[11:22] And the information that was coming through was just matter of fact.
[11:26] Yeah.
[11:27] You know, so it was actually quite interesting.
[11:29] Yeah.
[11:29] And quite simple.
[11:31] And when you hear the stories as well, you know, it just makes it more real.
[11:34] More real?
[11:35] Yeah.
[11:35] Yeah.
[11:36] Because these podcasts weren't like a couple of years ago, they weren't around, if that makes sense.
[11:40] So it was really you had the webinar and then the masterclass.
[11:44] So that's one of the benefits of these podcasts, because if you listen to one and you're still trying to decide, you can at least go through some of the podcasts and hear some real life stories.
[11:54] Of who's done it before.
[11:56] Yeah.
[11:56] It makes it a bit easier to take that next step.
[11:58] Yeah.
[11:59] So was it listening to some of the testimonials that got you over the line from webinar to masterclass or was there something else?
[12:04] No, they weren't really available.
[12:06] It was more just it kind of made sense from the little bit that I'd learned from books and things like that.
[12:11] And it was like, yeah, it does make sense.
[12:13] Let's have a go and see what happens.
[12:16] And yeah, Jeff was on board when I broke the news.
[12:19] We're going to do it.
[12:19] You've signed us up for something.
[12:21] Yeah.
[12:21] So what month did you do the webinar?
[12:24] We did it in May and then did the masterclass in May as well.
[12:28] Okay, so you did it pretty quick.
[12:29] Yeah, very much quick, one after the other.
[12:32] The webinar was fantastic in that.
[12:34] And then we were both on board.
[12:36] We signed up straight away and, you know, fingers crossed, we became lucky enough that we became clients.
[12:43] And then really we were in a bit of a...
[12:46] Holding pattern for nearly 12 months because we had bought the property in Brisbane by ourselves prior to Infinity.
[12:55] We kind of hadn't done it the right way.
[12:57] And so- So it wasn't structured properly.
[13:00] It wasn't structured properly.
[13:01] And we were really waiting for that to go through and build so that then Infinity could, the build to finish so Infinity could help us structure it the right way and then give us a bit more leverage.
[13:12] So we went from no mortgage to a little bit of a mortgage, you know, and I suppose we were happy with that because we didn't know any different and we thought that's what we had to go through.
[13:21] Yeah.
[13:21] And then, you know, Infinity started helping us through the process.
[13:25] Yeah.
[13:26] And let's go back to the masterclass and sitting that full two day weekend.
[13:29] As you said, you had to convince him it was a two full day weekend because there's a lot of content in there.
[13:35] What were some of like the light bulb moments that both of you had during that weekend?
[13:38] For us, it wasn't more like because we kind of had very little mortgage or we'd already paid the mortgage off.
[13:45] We knew that we were, let's say,
[13:48] Not – we weren't really worried about our money because we were in a comfortable position.
[13:53] You know, paying your mortgage off is what most people are, you know, aiming for in life.
[13:58] Striving for, yeah.
[13:59] So I think that was probably let's kind of realign our budget and get, you know –
[14:08] things back on track and so we could invest a little bit better and create more opportunities for the kids.
[14:13] Yeah.
[14:13] If that makes sense.
[14:14] And for us later on.
[14:16] And one of the things I really liked is that even though we talk about Triple F and that everybody budget was their own, like you actually sit there and work out your own numbers and stuff, but you could see where the leaky buckets were and which was really eating out and that because we didn't have any restraints, we didn't have...
[14:35] any debt, you know, big debt at that point in time that we were worried about.
[14:40] And so just going back into having a budget and sticking to it and then just watching the savings grow was one of our big things for us, but also how to leverage our equity in our current property to get us into the market for more.
[14:55] Like...
[14:57] there were a few really big moments there that we were like, oh, we haven't quite done this right.
[15:02] Yeah.
[15:03] And then one of the other ones that I sat in the masterclass because I had got our kids into a property together.
[15:12] And they didn't have enough for a deposit themselves, but if they put it all together, they did.
[15:17] So I had got them into a property together and Gee was sitting there saying, don't get it.
[15:25] And I was like, you shouldn't intertwine it all.
[15:28] Which we've found out the failures with that a little bit later, but we can explain in a little while.
[15:34] And also selling what's not working and making the changes there because once you have two properties you're happy with it and it'll just do its own thing.
[15:42] But if it's not working and it's not working to help you, then sell it.
[15:47] As Grant would say, sell those dogs and get something else.
[15:50] So, yeah, it was actually interesting to see.
[15:52] Yeah.
[15:53] Okay.
[15:53] And then you've obviously liked what you saw on the weekend.
[15:57] You've then signed up to work with us.
[15:58] Talk me through what your strategy journey looked like, what it was like working with the team, how you felt during that process.
[16:05] Supported.
[16:06] Yeah.
[16:06] Well supported because, you know, we trusted the team and it sounds silly to say, but, you know, given it's such a short time, but we knew what direction we wanted to go to.
[16:17] They were across that as well and they were helping us to achieve that.
[16:20] So really whatever they said to do to help us achieve that goal, yeah, we were happy to do.
[16:26] Yeah.
[16:27] Yeah.
[16:27] Yeah.
[16:28] And so you've had a finance strategist, a wealth strategist and a relationship manager.
[16:32] Why do you feel it was so important to have those three different people?
[16:35] Because you've got a pretty big team that you're paired with.
[16:38] Why, you know, because, and they each do something different.
[16:40] Why is it so important for you guys to have so many different people in your team?
[16:44] I explained it.
[16:46] Like when it was just us doing it, it's like Jeff's driving and I'm sitting there with an old map trying to give us directions and, you know, go a few wrong directions.
[16:57] When you've got, you know, your relationship finance strategist and your wealth strategist working for you, you're getting chauffeur driven.
[17:04] You kind of tell them where you want to go and,
[17:07] And they show you how to get there in a good process.
[17:10] Like that's their strength.
[17:12] This is what they do every day.
[17:13] And when you're working full time, you know, earning an income and finance isn't your business, it's very hard to be across all of those things.
[17:21] So that's where it became really easy and, you know, being able to link in with them and ask questions.
[17:27] And that's the thing.
[17:28] If you don't get it the first time, you just ask a question or they're very quick to get back to you and help you get back into the process or keep a line.
[17:36] So...
[17:37] I feel like we're being chauffeur driven but we're still directing where we want to go.
[17:42] We just have a lot of people helping us get there.
[17:44] Someone else is, you know, changing the tyres or whatever.
[17:48] That's a good analogy.
[17:49] I like it.
[17:50] And Emily's been great because she keeps us on track.
[17:52] And it's to the point where you don't want to let your relationship manager down because they're doing and the team is doing so much in the background.
[17:58] Yeah.
[17:59] You want to stick to the process because, yeah, you just don't want to let them down.
[18:03] do them proud and they're happy with you every month that you check in with them.
[18:06] They're not cracking the whip.
[18:07] That's right.
[18:08] I think the other thing is, you know, if we wanted to do something different with our strategy, so the longer we went on with the team and the process, if we were thinking about doing something different, they'd always work out a way to either say, yes, you can do that or no, you can't do that.
[18:22] So we can be as aggressive as we like.
[18:24] or we can, you know, be as tame as we like.
[18:27] So it really depends on the individual and they'll sort of tailor it to what you want, but never overstretch you.
[18:33] Yeah.
[18:34] Yeah.
[18:34] Which is always a very important thing.
[18:37] So you'd like that you can have those ideas or those thoughts, you know, together and then you can come to the team.
[18:41] We're going to say, no, that doesn't work from a numbers perspective or yes, it does.
[18:45] Or maybe it's going to be 12 months time.
[18:47] Do you think that's because I mean, we have a very different service offering to a lot of people in the industry.
[18:52] So do you find that to be a key difference?
[18:56] I think it's really important, you know, that sometimes you come up with the ideas, but they can tell you how to get there if that's what you really want, how to get there.
[19:05] And even, you know, people may think meeting monthly with your relationship manager is like, really, like originally in the first couple of years, we would meet monthly with Emily and
[19:16] Now it's more we actually meet probably three monthly because we're on track and it really just becomes habit and process.
[19:23] Yeah.
[19:24] But if we need anything at any time, we can message her and we would get a message back that day.
[19:28] Yeah.
[19:29] You know, she's very responsive.
[19:31] The team are very responsive.
[19:32] So it's not like they definitely help you get on track and make it your habit.
[19:36] Yeah.
[19:36] But it's not like it has to be every, you're not, oh, this is your time, whatever, you check in.
[19:44] And once you get into the process and you get a little bit further on, you're driving it as much as you want to.
[19:50] They just keep you in track.
[19:52] Yeah, yeah.
[19:54] And why do you think it's so important to still budget even though you're debt free on the home?
[20:00] Look, it's important because we've got our goals now and we're very goal-oriented as well and so we like ticking those things off.
[20:08] Yeah.
[20:09] And then you look at everything you do, you know, and with the budget, like this week, you know, with Denise's birthday earlier on in the week, we got very close to, you know, using up all our triple F and you're just thinking about different things and, you know, do you really need it?
[20:24] You know, can this be put off till next week?
[20:26] You know, so it makes you think a lot harder because...
[20:29] you want a lot more.
[20:31] Yeah.
[20:31] And, you know, sometimes it's not all about just properties that you want.
[20:35] You know, we've done a few overseas trips and that, which we've been able to save for.
[20:40] Later this year we are actually taking the whole family over to Africa.
[20:43] It's paid for already.
[20:45] We had that discussion with our relationship manager.
[20:47] This is what we wanted to do.
[20:49] You know, when you hear about how many, like,
[20:53] experiences you get with your kids and things like that.
[20:55] And listening to other podcasts give you those ideas, you know, what can we do and that.
[21:00] And it's not all about spending money on them and that sometimes is, you know, just doing a trip and that.
[21:06] And we have done a few overseas trips.
[21:08] We did Europe for seven weeks, which was quite good.
[21:13] And even with that trip, you know, we had a budget and we were working the process.
[21:19] Unfortunately, we did have to come back early
[21:24] But we didn't have to worry about the money side of things at all.
[21:27] You know, there was always money there to... You felt prepared financially for the... Yeah, so much prepared.
[21:31] Yeah.
[21:32] You know, so there was no risk there.
[21:34] We managed to get back in time, so... We can take a moment if you need at any point.
[21:41] No.
[21:41] Yeah.
[21:42] Yeah, but it's created opportunities for us.
[21:45] And as we said, we had, even though something happened, we were able to get back and not worry about how we were going to get back and, you know, with the kids, we're now kind of trying to educate them into where they could be into the same position.
[22:00] Yeah.
[22:00] And, you know, if we can get them in very early, that will be great.
[22:03] Fantastic.
[22:04] Yeah.
[22:05] How have the kids responded to mum and dad's journey with Infinity?
[22:08] Really well.
[22:08] Yeah.
[22:09] Do you talk to them in detail about what you're doing?
[22:11] Openly now.
[22:12] Yeah.
[22:12] Before it was a bit of a taboo subject.
[22:14] Yeah.
[22:14] I think it is with most people.
[22:15] Yeah.
[22:17] But yeah, openly with the kids, we talk about our finances and where we're going with it so they know what we're up to.
[22:23] They know about investment properties.
[22:24] They know about our budgeting.
[22:25] They've started that process as well.
[22:27] Oh, that's awesome.
[22:28] Yeah.
[22:28] So we're slowly getting them into the vein of things.
[22:31] But yeah, they're responding quite well.
[22:33] Yeah.
[22:34] So like our oldest who's out of home already, he actually did the webinar and masterclass in January.
[22:41] So he got in and after they evaluated him, because he's been in his own business for just under 12 months.
[22:47] Yeah.
[22:48] It was recommended that he needed another BAS statement just to help them get through.
[22:52] So to hold off to July.
[22:53] To verify the income, yeah.
[22:54] And then at that point there, they said, here's your money back.
[22:59] You know, it's better in your account than ours for the moment.
[23:02] Come and see us in July.
[23:04] Yeah.
[23:04] So, you know, it wasn't a no, it was hold this and make it work for you at the moment and then come and see us when you've got the paperwork to support what we need to do, which was fantastic.
[23:15] Our daughter, who is just working after her degree,
[23:19] Basically, she has her little triple F that she has each week and saves the rest of her money.
[23:24] So I think once they sell their property, once it gets sold, she'll have enough for another deposit.
[23:31] So that will be fantastic and hopefully we'll get her into infinity at that point in time.
[23:36] So just to be able to have those open conversations and to give them the financial literacy so early, you know, as I said, they're 26, 24 and 22.
[23:45] That will be great.
[23:45] Yeah.
[23:47] And then the youngest is getting there.
[23:50] Once he has his deposit back from the house, I will probably put that into the fund.
[23:55] Yeah, because we're selling the house that they all bought together with your help.
[24:01] Look, they've made a little bit of money, but it will help the oldest free up his borrowing capacity so him and his partner can do what they need to do now.
[24:10] Yeah, and even with our daughter, you can see the barriers.
[24:13] So she said, oh, I've only got this much.
[24:14] I can only do this.
[24:15] I might not go out, you know.
[24:17] So they're starting to limit what they do as well based on what they can afford or what they, you know, limit themselves to.
[24:22] Yeah.
[24:23] So that's encouraging.
[24:24] Yeah, they're starting to get some really good mindset shifts, little education nuggets, which is good.
[24:30] How do you feel like as their parents knowing that they're already on, they've already got that head start but they're taking it as well?
[24:36] Yeah.
[24:37] I'm so proud of them.
[24:38] And because of their age, the potential that they've got with any young person is just exponential almost.
[24:46] Yeah.
[24:46] Yeah.
[24:47] If you're enjoying this story and want to set yourself up for financial freedom as well, it all starts with our free 45-minute educational webinar.
[24:56] Click the link below this video to begin your journey today.
[25:00] Why infinity?
[25:01] Because you said you were looking at things yourselves beforehand and looking at advisors.
[25:05] Why infinity?
[25:07] Why did we top everyone else?
[25:09] Well, it's the support that you get.
[25:11] I mean, Graeme, listen to Graeme, he was just very down to earth, very matter of fact, you know, and it was a case of, well, you know, this is what we do, this is what you should do, it's up to you whether you want to do it or not.
[25:21] So there wasn't ever a push to do that.
[25:24] But the knowledge it gave us and since joining the support, it's been, yeah, been phenomenal.
[25:30] Yeah, how it was explained and breaking down the pieces was, you know, very interesting.
[25:36] You know, it made it simple for everybody to understand it.
[25:39] It wasn't, you know, a rocky road or anything.
[25:42] It was just pretty clear cut, this is here and we've got this team to support you.
[25:47] So it made a very easy decision for us.
[25:50] Okay.
[25:51] Was there anything about Infinity that surprised you after you joined?
[25:54] I think the first REM.
[25:59] That was very surprising.
[26:00] Yeah.
[26:01] We'd like to tell everybody that Louis did make us wait 12 months.
[26:05] Oh, my goodness, you're the second couple that's just outed him.
[26:08] No, no, he was good.
[26:10] We're supporting him.
[26:11] It took us 12 months to go to a REM, but the first REM was very eye-opening and it was a great experience.
[26:17] I've got to say, I think that's the first time he's ever actually waited.
[26:20] So we're not outing him.
[26:21] He's okay.
[26:22] Yeah, he's good.
[26:23] He's good.
[26:24] So, yeah, it was very good.
[26:26] And also just because that was the first time you're really in that community because the whole community events and school and that have only just started to come, you know, more on platforms now.
[26:37] Yes, yeah.
[26:38] So.
[26:38] back then it was just good to get in the community, talk to people about your finance, your money and things like that.
[26:44] So just how open people were and how everybody is really supportive of your successful story.
[26:52] It doesn't matter where you are on your journey, everybody's very supportive.
[26:55] So it's that part of it, the REM and the supportive community was really surprising, I think.
[27:02] Yeah.
[27:03] And even with that support, you know, at our second REM, you know, we were able to
[27:07] calm some nerves down.
[27:08] People are coming back and saying, oh my gosh, I can't believe I bought so many properties.
[27:11] But you just got to trust the process, you know, and it's what we went through when we first, that was one of the surprises, you know, oh, you come back and you've got these properties and you didn't expect to come out with that.
[27:21] But then just settling people down, just based on the knowledge that you have.
[27:24] And again, having someone been through that process, it makes it a lot easier as well.
[27:28] So yeah, talking to the different...
[27:31] different members of the community has been invaluable as well.
[27:35] Okay.
[27:35] And the other thing is even with REMS and that, like everybody doesn't come back with the same property.
[27:41] There are properties all over Australia.
[27:44] There are different types of properties.
[27:45] Some of them are apartments, some of them are houses, dual occupiers.
[27:48] So it's like it wasn't a cookie cutter, this is one fit for all.
[27:53] Very strategy specific.
[27:54] Yeah, everybody.
[27:55] It was very, and that was reassuring that, you know, it wasn't just, oh, we're all, we're just selling this.
[28:02] And that's, you know, which is how we'd felt before.
[28:04] We were actually given a bit more opportunity and, oh, yeah.
[28:09] selection basically, and other people were coming back with different ones that fitted their strategy.
[28:15] That was reassuring, I think, for me.
[28:16] Yeah.
[28:17] We do a lot of Q&A at the Real Estate Masteries as well, where you actually get to put your hand up or maybe if you feel a bit shy, you can put it in.
[28:25] We've got a box that's usually there and we'll answer those questions.
[28:28] Did you ever get involved in anything like that?
[28:29] Or we just kind of sit back, listen?
[28:31] We usually have our testimonials at the Real Estate Mastery as well.
[28:34] What was that like for you guys?
[28:35] Yeah.
[28:36] I'm normally a sit-back, listen type person.
[28:39] I did ask a few questions on the last one because we've been to two REMs now.
[28:44] And like some of the – even with the testimonials, some of them are very different.
[28:49] So one of the questions I ask is how many of you are keeping spreadsheets?
[28:53] I think Steve and somebody else was on the testimonial thing and I was like, oh, I'm not keeping spreadsheets.
[29:01] We need to be keeping spreadsheets.
[29:03] But no, even that part of the journey is very much as to how much you want to, you know,
[29:08] be, you know, hold the magnifying glass over it or, you know, not.
[29:13] Yeah, because we're anti-spread shit here.
[29:15] I just want to make that very clear.
[29:17] We've got all of our amazing portals that do it for you.
[29:20] So, yeah, no, but some people still.
[29:22] Yeah, I would like it.
[29:23] do themselves a disservice of using it.
[29:25] So, yeah.
[29:26] Yeah.
[29:27] And even like I listen to even being in the journey four years on, I still listen to every podcast that drops.
[29:34] You know, I sit there and wait for it.
[29:36] It's really bad when it's daylight savings that we have to wait the extra hour.
[29:39] Oh, the extra hour.
[29:41] But I really do enjoy listening to the podcast and everybody's story is very different and you hear something like somebody was talking about the fund.
[29:49] So we have put money into the fund.
[29:51] Yeah.
[29:52] But, you know, you know those things are there, but sometimes it's just a reminder and when you have those listening to those things, that's good.
[29:59] And that's one of the other things, you know, when you went the last ram, they were talking about the fund and things like that.
[30:06] where the first one I don't really think it was available.
[30:09] So we've seen how Infinity has expanded on that journey as well.
[30:13] And, yeah, so it's exciting to be able to have products available to us that we wouldn't know otherwise.
[30:19] Yeah.
[30:20] Well, you said, you know, Infinity is always expanding.
[30:22] We're always trying to expand on our service offering of what you give you, whether it is the investment side or if it is, you know, educational content, monthly accountability meetings, school, the community events.
[30:34] Why do you think it's important for the team that you're working with or the company you're working with to continuously have that interaction with you?
[30:40] Because a lot of companies will do what they need to do at the beginning and say, okay, we might review in 12 months or come back in a couple of years.
[30:47] But you guys kind of get us all
[30:49] We're in your face all the time.
[30:51] What has that done for you guys personally and for your family and why do you think it's so important?
[30:55] It's just a constant education, you know, helps you think about little things, you know, change your direction, change what you're doing, how you can do things differently, you know, with your triple F. Could you bring that down a little bit?
[31:07] Is there someone doing something differently that has reduced it as a result?
[31:12] So I think things like that.
[31:14] Yeah, and as I said, even though like when you do the master class or even at REM, there's a lot of information and sometimes you just don't get it all in the first time round.
[31:23] Yeah, that's a good point.
[31:24] And even on school, you know, they break it down now and you can look at it hour by hour and, you know, revisit certain things, which is good, or you listen to a podcast and somebody will talk about something and you think, oh, yeah, let me look into that a little bit more and you can reach out to your team and get a bit more information on it.
[31:41] So those sort of things, and as I said, just that everyday education that just reminds you of things that you have already been taught but you don't actually absorb everything the first time around.
[31:53] Yeah.
[31:54] So it just helps you just look at things a little bit differently.
[31:58] Yeah.
[31:58] So you're not sick of us yet?
[32:00] Seeing us all over the place all the time.
[32:02] We're just hoping you don't get sick of us anytime soon.
[32:05] We do hope that we can, you know, do a little bit more investing and we really enjoy the team and the journey and the community that it is.
[32:13] Yeah.
[32:13] The transition initially was interesting because you think, you know, initially it's a scam and then after the mask you don't want to miss out.
[32:20] So then you obviously miss out and you go, I hope they pick us, I hope they pick us.
[32:24] So it's a quick mindset change.
[32:27] Yeah, because we do that approval process to ensure that whoever we take on, we know we can do an absolutely ripper job and that you're committed, we're committed, right?
[32:35] Because it's a partnership now, now that you've signed up.
[32:37] So that's why that process is very important.
[32:39] But you're right, it does become a little bit like that.
[32:42] And I know when we post about our events and somebody might not be able to come or somebody went to a REM last month and we're about to have another one and they're like, oh, my God.
[32:49] oh my gosh, I've got FOMA, I want to go again.
[32:51] You know, it's definitely, I love the experiences we do for our clients.
[32:57] I think that's just so special.
[32:58] You know, not just with the education side of things, like we ran a Friday night meeting just to go through the budget, which is an extra, you know, value add for our clients.
[33:07] But it's also...
[33:08] Christmas parties and the community events and stuff, which I think is just really special.
[33:12] But even like I unfortunately was travelling so I didn't get the opportunity to listen to the... What's on school now?
[33:19] Oh, I know.
[33:20] I was very happy to see that it had dropped and that I had the opportunity to go back and re-listen to it even though I couldn't sign in on the time.
[33:29] at the time.
[33:29] And then even like the monthly ma'am's just reiterating what's available, you know, the community events, they're all keeping you engaged in the process.
[33:38] And, you know, people are there that you can talk to and testimonials are there, you know, Merrigan, Jeremy, Nat, all great, you know, people that you can have conversations with.
[33:49] So that's fantastic.
[33:51] And then also with Infinity, we have both done health things as well.
[33:57] Yes, you've also been involved in some of our fitness.
[34:00] We did.
[34:01] Basically, there was the 75 Hard Challenge, which I did.
[34:05] To be really transparent, I'd just signed up for a holiday to Japan and I thought I would really try hard to win something.
[34:12] Why, you didn't over there.
[34:13] No, no, no, to how I could help pay for Japan.
[34:15] Oh, pay for it, yeah.
[34:16] I was going to win something and that was going to be – I didn't win, but I won within myself.
[34:21] Yeah.
[34:22] There was a health transformation.
[34:23] I felt healthier.
[34:24] Yeah.
[34:25] and better in mind.
[34:27] And I did that kind of efficiently at the time with Infinity where Jeff did the 60 Strong.
[34:34] He didn't sign up with either Nick or Casey.
[34:36] He just did it himself during the process.
[34:39] So I went through 75 with Denise for support.
[34:43] Yeah.
[34:43] So that was also good.
[34:44] And then, yeah, just did the 60 Strong.
[34:46] So, yeah, again, both have been, yeah, wonderful.
[34:49] You're going to do another one?
[34:50] We've got another one coming up.
[34:51] We probably will.
[34:52] So we can put you in for some prize money.
[34:54] Yeah.
[34:56] We'll try.
[34:56] But even if you don't win, you're a winning anyway.
[34:59] Of course.
[34:59] You know, as I said, from a health perspective, it just makes you refocus, look at your finances as well.
[35:05] You know, you read, you know, something each day or listen to a podcast.
[35:10] Yeah.
[35:10] You do your steps.
[35:11] It's quite good.
[35:12] You know, it just kind of gets you reengaged into the process and yourselves as a family and what you're doing.
[35:19] life, you know, the important things in life.
[35:21] It's not just about making wealth.
[35:23] It is about your health as well and looking after yourself.
[35:25] Yeah.
[35:26] And that, which is fantastic.
[35:28] Did that surprise you that Infinity did stuff like that?
[35:32] Yes.
[35:33] Like, I've come to make money.
[35:34] Why are you making me go and exercise?
[35:36] Yeah, yeah.
[35:37] But it's also good sharing in the community because progress and, you know, and that motivates you even more to do it.
[35:43] So, yeah, that was surprising as well.
[35:46] Yeah.
[35:47] So I love that you guys did it though.
[35:48] I definitely want to push you guys to do the June one.
[35:51] But sign up with one of the coaches because then you are in the running to win some of the prize money, which will, you know, help with whatever your goals are.
[35:58] I know you said you paid for Africa, but maybe a bit more spending money.
[36:02] Yeah.
[36:03] I also have Canada, Alaska somewhere on my trip list, but maybe it will help me with a deposit for that or something.
[36:09] Yeah, there you go.
[36:10] There you go.
[36:11] Why is travel so important to you guys?
[36:14] I don't know.
[36:15] Like we kind of want to travel overseas while we consider ourselves young, if that makes sense.
[36:22] We do still want to do a bit more around Australia.
[36:25] Maybe when we're older.
[36:27] Yeah.
[36:28] We figure if something happens, it's more likely to happen when we're older, so we'd rather travel while we're young.
[36:36] But it's also good just to take time out, reward yourself.
[36:39] Yeah, I agree.
[36:39] At the end, you know, you do work hard for what you've got.
[36:43] And, you know, you are sticking to a process and, you know, it's just making those little wins memorable, you know, and sitting back and appreciating what you've actually gained over the year.
[36:54] Yeah.
[36:54] Which is good.
[36:55] I think that's a big misconception, right, is a lot of people think of the budgeting side of things and they think we're going to miss out.
[37:01] We're not going to be able to go on holidays.
[37:02] We can't say yes to the kids on some things, but
[37:05] I think, and what you guys have definitely proven with being able to do these holidays is that it's about focusing on what's important and not spending our money on what's not.
[37:13] Yeah.
[37:14] Yeah, and it's about life.
[37:15] Yeah.
[37:16] You know, you want to live it, love it.
[37:17] You've got your hard moments.
[37:19] You've got to contain yourself at some times, but you've got to also celebrate the small wins.
[37:23] Absolutely.
[37:23] And the big ones.
[37:24] Yeah, but the kids are excited for Africa.
[37:26] Yeah, they are.
[37:27] Because my mum and dad paid for everything.
[37:30] This time, yes.
[37:31] Oh, they're very lucky.
[37:32] Yes.
[37:33] I don't know if we'll take them overseas again.
[37:35] Next time will be us.
[37:37] Just you two?
[37:37] Yeah.
[37:37] But, you know, we're looking forward to the experience.
[37:41] We do try to do, like, weekend trips with the kids, trying to get everybody's calendars aligned.
[37:46] Aligned, yeah.
[37:47] It's a bit difficult.
[37:48] And then even more recently we started Family Date Night, which I did post on school.
[37:53] Oh, I love that.
[37:53] So we did a painting one recently where we all had to paint somebody else in the family.
[37:58] Yeah.
[37:59] How did that turn out?
[38:00] Look, we all sat around the table for a good hour and a bit.
[38:04] We're not artists.
[38:04] We're not artists, that's for sure.
[38:06] That was a bit of fun, though.
[38:07] Yeah, it was good fun.
[38:09] It was a lot of fun and it was enjoyable just, you know, spending time with the kids and that.
[38:13] So it's not all about, you know, big dinners or big trips or things like that, you know, just spending time each when you get the opportunity is good.
[38:24] I think the other thing that resonated with me coming into Infinity was we're family focused, you know, and that's through home life, that's through work.
[38:32] And having Jay reiterate that as well as the Infinity family, that was good to hear.
[38:37] Yeah.
[38:37] That was reassuring.
[38:38] And then as we got into it, you can see the community work, you know, and everyone's supportive of each other.
[38:44] You know, everyone's journey is different as we've spoken about.
[38:46] But yeah, there's no jealousy.
[38:48] There's, you know, you can do this.
[38:49] Have you done this?
[38:50] Yeah.
[38:50] There's always people questioning each other just to make you better.
[38:53] Yeah.
[38:53] And like helping each other with like, somebody put something up the other day where they were like, we've just taken on some foster kids.
[38:59] Is it, can anybody help us, you know, with some resources or, um, we want to extend the house.
[39:04] They didn't want, couldn't, they're in their strategy.
[39:06] They couldn't do renovations.
[39:07] So some tradies are getting together.
[39:08] Like, it's just so beautiful to see how everybody helps each other like that.
[39:13] Yeah.
[39:13] When moments like that come up.
[39:15] I just think that's special too.
[39:18] Even with the Salvation Army Christmas appeal, like when we talk to people about infinity, it's one of the big selling points.
[39:27] I actually tell people, you know, this group raised $1.1 million, you know, for the Salvation Army.
[39:33] They did the Kmart wishing tree.
[39:35] There's a lot of giving back.
[39:37] It's not all about giving.
[39:38] just making money for yourselves, even though you get into a position where you actually feel, you know, willing or able to, you know, give back to other people, which is really good.
[39:50] It gives you opportunity.
[39:51] Yeah.
[39:52] Do you feel like you're able to do that now with a bit more ease?
[39:55] Yeah.
[39:56] Because of the opposition?
[39:57] Yeah, definitely.
[39:57] Yeah.
[39:58] Like when we go out and that generally if we saw a Salvation Army person there, say we're going to the football and I saw them, I would actually contribute something because I figure we're going out, someone else is doing it tough.
[40:10] But when you see, you know, the Salvation Army and that, we would donate more now definitely because we're in a lot better position and able to do it and you want to help other people.
[40:20] Yeah.
[40:21] Which is fantastic.
[40:21] Yeah.
[40:21] I love that you said that it's one of your selling points when you talk to people about it.
[40:25] Yeah, definitely.
[40:26] Yeah, that's lovely.
[40:27] Like how much you give back or how much you give back.
[40:29] Yeah.
[40:30] Like you're not just saying, oh, it's just budgeting and investing.
[40:34] That was one of your selling points.
[40:35] Yeah, it is.
[40:36] And as I said, we've been lucky enough to convert a few friends as well, and so that is one of the selling points.
[40:43] And then usually we say to them, go and listen to a few podcasts first and then watch them.
[40:48] the webinar because I think, you know, starting with the webinar, sometimes it just seems too money focused, but when you can actually see how much it's changed.
[40:58] The human side behind it.
[40:59] Yeah, that's right.
[40:59] And then they watch it, it's been quite good.
[41:01] So it's been good to be able to help.
[41:03] Yeah.
[41:04] And I think, yeah, because I've seen our journey as well, it makes it more real.
[41:07] Yeah.
[41:08] And takes it out of that whole, you know, mystery box.
[41:11] Yeah.
[41:11] Yeah.
[41:12] Yeah.
[41:12] And do you feel open talking about it with people?
[41:15] Because like you said, it's quite a taboo subject.
[41:17] Usually everyone wants to keep everything close to the chest.
[41:20] Yeah, that's right.
[41:20] It depends on the person.
[41:21] Yeah.
[41:22] Like if we pick up on something, then we might ask a question, but we don't push it.
[41:27] You know, we're not openly talking about it.
[41:31] If they're interested in listening, we'll direct them to the free webinar.
[41:34] Yeah.
[41:34] you know, start off with.
[41:35] But like I said, they've seen us go through the process and, you know, whenever they come up with problems, it goes, well, you know, you've seen what we've achieved.
[41:42] So, you know, have a look at the free webinar.
[41:45] Make your mind up for yourself.
[41:46] And do it, yeah.
[41:47] Because you can't force people to do it.
[41:48] Oh, of course, yeah.
[41:49] So, yeah.
[41:49] Yeah, it's just interesting to see what a lot of society is like, even when you're, you know, showing them exactly what you're doing and what you've achieved, still people are like, oh, I don't know, too good to be true, a bit of a scam.
[42:00] Or you're in a cult, that's a new one we keep getting.
[42:02] Yeah, it's a cult.
[42:03] Yeah.
[42:04] And, you know, when you first talk about, you know, you have a budget, they're like, I don't think I can stick to a budget.
[42:11] And then you're kind of like, but it's your budget.
[42:13] Yeah.
[42:13] Like they're not telling you what you have to do.
[42:16] It's your budget.
[42:17] You're going to work it out for yourself.
[42:19] But, yeah, we just kind of generally just gently nudge them a few times.
[42:25] And, you know, somebody might say that, oh, I did listen to that.
[42:29] And then you go into the conversation again.
[42:31] Yeah.
[42:32] Like it's very hard when you know that you have a real treasure that you want to share with people.
[42:37] But generally it's not a topic that everybody talks about and it's hard to share.
[42:43] Yeah.
[42:43] What you've really been able to achieve.
[42:45] It's quite funny.
[42:46] It's a stigma to talk about money.
[42:48] It's just, yeah, it's quite strange.
[42:49] But I think we're slowly starting to break that because a lot of like you said, you've been lucky enough to convert some friends and.
[42:55] I think a lot of our community is slowly getting to be like that as well.
[42:58] And now I usually share that one of my passions is helping the parents because then you're going to teach your kids.
[43:06] Your kids get the head start because I never really had a head start.
[43:09] So I wish I had parents that could have met infinity.
[43:13] So that's something I'm very passionate about.
[43:14] So the more we can do that, the more we're going to, it's going to have that ripple effect for the kids of our community as well.
[43:19] Yeah, that's right.
[43:20] Well, as I said, our kids are in their 20s and you just think if you get into Infinity now, imagine where you're going to be at 35 or 40.
[43:29] Exactly.
[43:29] You know, we're early 50s, so we kind of, well, we actually got it late 40s is when we joined Infinity, so that's great.
[43:37] And we're in a good spot, but at the moment, imagine if you had got it at 25.
[43:42] I know.
[43:43] You start to like picture where you'd be.
[43:46] Yeah.
[43:47] And let's talk about your investing journey.
[43:49] So you've got a very impressive portfolio that you've now been able to build with us over the last couple of years, which is $7 million you've been able to build.
[43:56] Did you, one, think that was going to be possible or you'd ever get to that point?
[44:00] And two, how are we feeling about it now?
[44:01] Yeah.
[44:02] Yeah, I did think we'd get to that point, you know, so quickly as well.
[44:06] And feeling excited to see what the other opportunities are, you know, and where we can go with this because we don't really have an end goal.
[44:14] Yeah.
[44:15] You know, whatever we do, we'll support the kids, you know, after we're long and gone.
[44:21] But, yeah, the properties that we've got and then even in super selling those two and getting another two better quality properties, I suppose, was just another step in the right direction.
[44:32] Yeah.
[44:33] Yeah.
[44:33] No, it's very exciting to have the portfolio that we have.
[44:38] I guess, as I said, the kids know, we know.
[44:41] This will be the first time broader people know.
[44:44] Yeah.
[44:44] Yeah.
[44:45] It is exciting and we definitely would not be in this position without Infinity because we wouldn't have had the knowledge to be able to leverage what we've been able to leverage or using equity.
[44:57] Yeah.
[44:58] Even in, as I said, our self-managed super fund, we really drove that with our financial advisor the first time around.
[45:05] and being able to sell that and leverage again and make our super work that little bit harder for us or really it's not really working hard, it's doing the work for us, getting the baker bake.
[45:16] And, yeah, we're looking forward to just, you know, comfort realistically.
[45:21] And it's not about being able to spend a lot of money later.
[45:25] It's just not having the worries or having opportunities to make decisions, you know.
[45:29] Yeah.
[45:29] And not being reliant on super or forced to maybe downsize the home.
[45:34] either.
[45:35] Yeah.
[45:35] Yeah.
[45:36] We don't really have a retirement plan yet other than...
[45:39] I was going to ask what does retirement look like for you guys?
[45:42] We're not sure of the age.
[45:43] We've spoken about that a fair bit.
[45:45] But we still enjoy our jobs.
[45:46] We still can travel and, you know, we can still invest a little bit more.
[45:51] So we're just trying to maximise our potential.
[45:54] But I suppose it's all based around the grandkids.
[45:56] Yeah, okay.
[45:57] We don't have any.
[45:58] I was going to say, when is that going to happen?
[46:01] There's no pressure for our kids.
[46:03] They all know.
[46:03] They keep telling us the two dogs at the moment are our grandbabies.
[46:07] Yeah.
[46:08] Practice with them.
[46:09] But, yeah, we just want to be able to have the opportunity to, like family is important to us, that when we have grandkids or, you know, if life changes for... You want to be very present.
[46:20] Yeah, we do want to be present and want to be available and...
[46:24] having that opportunity will be great.
[46:25] Like, as Jeff said, we like our jobs at the moment.
[46:28] You know, like giving, we're in a profession where we give back to people every day, which is really nice.
[46:35] But our family is really our first priority.
[46:38] Yeah.
[46:39] Yeah.
[46:40] And did it surprise you were able to build that portfolio without really having to sacrifice?
[46:44] I mean, you're still going on holidays and you don't feel like you're going without.
[46:48] Yeah, no, that's right.
[46:49] It was surprising.
[46:51] And like I said, getting those so quickly, it was incredible.
[46:55] We couldn't believe it.
[46:56] You know, after the first REM.
[46:57] Yeah.
[46:57] You know, walking away with three at the time.
[46:59] Yeah.
[47:00] It was, yeah.
[47:01] And it's really, if you're sticking to the process, the process is not hard.
[47:05] Yeah.
[47:06] It is really, it becomes a habit and you just follow the process and things line up for you.
[47:12] Yeah.
[47:12] And as I said, and then you listen to a podcast and you think, oh, maybe there's something else there and you'll have a chat with your team and see if it's available to you or how you get that.
[47:21] But, yeah, no, we're very happy with how quick it's all happened.
[47:24] As I said, our portfolio has definitely probably tripled in the last four years, which is amazing, but also with very little effort from us, you know, and as I said, we're in the car being chauffeured.
[47:39] I love that analogy.
[47:40] Yeah.
[47:41] And for us it's a process all the way through.
[47:42] So, you know, when you first have kids you get used to a certain process.
[47:45] Yeah.
[47:45] They go through school and swimming and whatever sport they do.
[47:48] So there's all changing processes all the time.
[47:50] So Denise moving to Dubbo was another big one for us.
[47:54] Another process, yeah.
[47:55] Getting used to that.
[47:57] And so this was just another one.
[47:58] And once you're in the vein of change and then accepting change and then following it, you know, it's a lot easier.
[48:05] Yeah.
[48:06] You were always very property focused though.
[48:08] Why have you always felt like property was always going to be part of your, your wealth creation strategy?
[48:16] I always like bricks and mortar, you know, because it's something real.
[48:19] Shares for me fluctuates a lot.
[48:21] We've still got diversity that way, which we're thinking about changing as well, and that's through Super.
[48:27] But I think having the physicality of it and the fact that, you know, you listen to Doc Wilson and it goes up, you know.
[48:34] Yeah.
[48:35] So there's always that sort of assurity.
[48:37] So, yeah, that's it for me.
[48:40] For me, it was probably.
[48:43] It's one of those.
[48:43] My mum predominantly was a single mum and we did move around a lot and we were housing commission.
[48:49] So it wasn't until later in life that she actually bought a property and she, you know, owned it and that was great for her.
[48:57] She did really well.
[48:57] She finally got that security.
[48:59] She did.
[49:00] Yeah.
[49:00] There wasn't a lot of security and things like that.
[49:03] So for me, property is a security blanket basically.
[49:06] Yeah.
[49:06] So that was mainly for the principal place of residence and that was
[49:10] But I can also see, like, shares, when you're not, as I said before, finance is not our strength, it's not our career.
[49:20] We do have literacy now in that process thanks to Infinity.
[49:24] But when you're not really sure, property just was a little bit more easier to guide through than shares.
[49:32] Yeah.
[49:33] And, you know, as markets happened and things like that, it's a little bit more solid and you need to be able to prepare and wait in that process.
[49:42] But we could see it, you know, and, like, it's tangible.
[49:45] I think that's one of the things that were the reason why we went that way.
[49:50] Awesome.
[49:53] What would you say to somebody who might be thinking of joining Infinity but are still umming and ahhing?
[49:58] Yeah.
[50:01] Free webinar, listen to people having conversations, the podcasts.
[50:05] Because we've got a lot of testimonial podcasts now.
[50:07] Yeah.
[50:07] Yeah.
[50:08] And just they're normal families, you know.
[50:10] It's something where no one's special, you know.
[50:13] We still work hard and do what we have to do.
[50:15] But it's just everyday people.
[50:17] And if the majority of, I mean, all of the community can do it, you know, and it's tested and it's proven, you know, the proof is there.
[50:26] Yeah.
[50:26] And even if you just listen to the webinar, there's a lot of key points that would help people without going to the next step.
[50:32] If you were worried about taking the next step, you know, you get a lot of information, free information from the webinar.
[50:39] When, like, I've got a lot of young people at work and I'm starting to have conversations about finance with them.
[50:45] And, you know, one of them said, oh, I might try to buy a property.
[50:49] I'll say, yeah, but...
[50:50] Can I just ask you to go to now, go to the webinar and have a little bit more, get the team to help you.
[50:56] Yeah.
[50:57] I'm not saying what you're going to do isn't going to work, but it could become a lot easier for you and the opportunities that it can create.
[51:06] you know, is substantially a big difference.
[51:10] As I said, I know where we were when we didn't have Infinity versus now and how many bigger opportunities or doors that have been opened for us.
[51:18] As I said, it's not just about one type of property.
[51:21] There's a big range of property.
[51:22] There's a big range of location.
[51:24] There's a fund.
[51:26] And infinity help you do all those steps.
[51:28] So, yeah, that's, I kind of say, instead, well, we were talking about it.
[51:33] Instead of having your little homemade toolbox, you now have the synchro set, you know, the whole set there to help.
[51:39] Full of amazing analogies.
[51:40] I love it.
[51:41] But yeah, you know, like you can tinker and that and try yourself, but there's a whole toolbox there to help you.
[51:48] And that's the thing.
[51:49] That's awesome.
[51:50] Do you guys have anything for me?
[51:52] I have a question if I can.
[51:54] Yeah.
[51:55] So obviously I have three kids.
[51:58] Two have been through university and have hex debts.
[52:01] So one of them is at a situation where she's working now, she has quite a high hex debt but also will be in a position to have a deposit for property.
[52:12] Yeah.
[52:13] Which way would you tell her to go?
[52:15] Oh, good question.
[52:16] Cause it's very strategy specific, very borrowing capacity specific.
[52:20] And there's a, there's a few different lenders that'll say, Oh, look, if you could pay it off in a year, we won't even include it in your borrowing capacity.
[52:26] Um, obviously that's something we'd have to run from a numbers perspective if that's possible, depending on the level of how big it is.
[52:32] Um, but otherwise, yeah, the lenders do include it as part of your liabilities.
[52:37] Um, and it is of course based on how much you earn.
[52:39] So yeah.
[52:40] That's obviously ATO government driven of how much a percentage of your wage you've got to pay every year to pay it back.
[52:46] So the banks, of course, factor that in as well.
[52:48] So we've got to look at the strategy and say, okay, if it's going to impact their ability to buy a property, when do we buy that property?
[52:55] Do we put the deposit down for something that's maybe two years away, three years away?
[52:59] And then we focus on paying the HECS debt off?
[53:02] Yeah.
[53:02] So we improve the borrowing capacity or do we just focus on the savings?
[53:07] So there's a few things we'd have to look at from that perspective, but it's, yeah, very individual based.
[53:12] So can't give you an exact answer, but there are definitely options.
[53:18] And one from me, we spoke about friends and family and getting them involved.
[53:23] You having worked with Infinity and seeing multiple people in multiple situations on multiple journeys, how do you manage that communication with family and friends?
[53:35] It's a good question.
[53:36] I think especially being in the position I'm in now that I'm more the face of becoming the face of the business along with G, a lot of trust is being easily built through that as well.
[53:48] But then again, you just sharing your journey, the podcasts, building that trust with people.
[53:54] It's so easy, I find.
[53:57] because I've got quite a few friends now that are a part of it and then they talk to people and then because their friend knows me, it's quite easy for them to get involved.
[54:06] But I think the more I can share just education, not even talking about the webinar, it's more just talking about, oh, this is what I do for my clients or this is what I've done for a client before, that I think helps them in their decision-making process as well.
[54:21] Okay.
[54:21] Yeah, it's a good question.
[54:23] Awesome.
[54:24] Anything else?
[54:25] No, nothing for me.
[54:26] Okay.
[54:26] Thank you so much, guys.
[54:27] I really appreciate you being on and sharing your story because that will definitely help some more people thinking about joining.
[54:32] Yeah, thanks for having me.
[54:33] No worries.
[54:35] You're fucking gone.
[54:36] See ya.
