In this episode of The Money Mentor Podcast, we sit down with Tracy & Steve to explore one of the fastest turnarounds we’ve ever seen at Infinity, proof that when you commit, trust the process, and take action, financial change can happen almost instantly. Tracy & Steve first discovered Infinity through research and recommendations, looking for real guidance after years of feeling stuck. Before joining, they were juggling: A home loan of $85k (including caravan, car & renovation debt), $30k credit card limit, $33k owing on a previous investment property loan, no budget and constantly dipping into redraw and offset accounts. Despite working hard, they weren’t moving forward and they knew something had to change. After joining Infinity in May 2025, everything shifted quickly. Guided through the process and later attending REM, they made confident decisions and took back full control of their finances. Their transformation has been remarkable: Paid their home loan down to $0 — in just 3 months, closed old accounts and cancelled all credit cards, sold their caravan and one car, purchased 4 investment properties (including 1 in SMSF), started sweeping monthly and building strong habits and set a sustainable FFF budget of $500/week. Tracy & Steve’s story is proof that when you stop guessing and start following a proven strategy, financial freedom comes faster than you think. 👉 Watch the free webinar to start your own journey: https://bit.ly/43V2jKN

## Transcript

[0:00] Yeah, so we sold that, paid that straight off the loan, which brought it down.
[0:07] And then we went to REM.
[0:12] And then when we got back from REM, we decided that was it.
[0:20] We only used one car.
[0:22] We had two cars.
[0:24] And we sold the car and paid the mortgage off.
[0:29] Anyway.
[0:30] Money is the root of all evil.
[0:31] The fucking lack of it is.
[0:32] Not money.
[0:33] The lack of understanding money.
[0:35] When I put that into emphasis, when I realized that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I have to be all the fucking way.
[0:41] You are now watching the Money Mentor Podcast with Graham Holmes.
[0:45] Graham Holmes.
[0:45] Graham Holmes.
[0:46] Graham Holmes.
[0:47] You're fucking gone.
[0:50] See ya.
[0:52] Hey guys, I'm Chantal, team leader of the relationship managers here at Infinity and I have got the wonderful Tracy and Steve all the way from WA here with us.
[1:00] Welcome guys, how are you?
[1:01] Good, thanks.
[1:03] And you guys are pretty new to our Infinity family.
[1:05] You have just sort of come on board April, May this year, is that right?
[1:10] Yes.
[1:11] What made you seek out some help?
[1:14] What made you choose Infinity?
[1:16] Well, it was actually me.
[1:21] I was thinking we need to get this loan paid off.
[1:25] We're coming up for retirement age, even though we don't want to retire.
[1:32] Not yet anyway.
[1:34] But thinking like if we pay off our loan, what do we do with our money?
[1:42] I don't want to just stick it in the bank because they don't give you nothing.
[1:46] So I was scrolling, would you believe, on Facebook and seeing G. Thought.
[1:56] who's this guy?
[1:57] He's swearing like a trooper.
[1:59] And I'm thinking, oh, I like this guy.
[2:03] So I kept watching, kept watching.
[2:06] And then I found him on the podcast and I was watching his podcasts and did that for a couple of weeks.
[2:12] And then Steve came in and said, what the hell are you watching?
[2:19] And I was telling him about it and I says, I'm going to sign up for this class.
[2:23] I'm going to sign up for this masterclass.
[2:25] He says, how much?
[2:27] And I said, it's not very expensive.
[2:29] I'm just going to do it.
[2:30] Anyway, I did it because...
[2:33] I do what I do and forced him to watch.
[2:39] Perfect.
[2:39] This is the tale as old as time.
[2:42] I've heard it from a lot of people.
[2:45] Yeah.
[2:46] So what did you take from the masterclass?
[2:48] What was kind of like the aha moment, oh, we need to pursue something?
[2:53] The simplicity of it.
[2:55] Because it was in layman's terms, so to speak, understandable.
[3:00] So it made it easier, especially me, I'm not a finance kind of guy.
[3:04] And it just resonated, the way he was talking, the way others were talking about it.
[3:09] And it just clicked.
[3:11] It was that moment.
[3:13] why aren't we doing it?
[3:16] Yeah.
[3:16] So it was just, yeah.
[3:18] After the first day, it was like, we're doing this.
[3:20] Yeah.
[3:21] And I think a lot of people will say it's like, once you learn that, you can't unlearn it.
[3:25] Exactly.
[3:25] So you've got to pursue.
[3:26] You've got to continue and actually go ahead and enact it.
[3:29] Yeah.
[3:30] So what was your sort of financial position prior to Infinity?
[3:35] Well, I didn't think it was that bad actually until I learnt what I learnt.
[3:44] I confirm, your position wasn't too bad.
[3:46] Yeah, okay, cool.
[3:48] So we had a $130,000 mortgage on the house that we live in and we carried over a loss from an investment property that we had over in Perth.
[4:03] We had.
[4:04] Um, sold there.
[4:06] lost money.
[4:09] So that was about $180 all up.
[4:14] So yeah, so it wasn't that bad.
[4:18] And what were you doing with your money?
[4:22] Spending it.
[4:22] Yeah, wasting it.
[4:24] What were you spending it on?
[4:25] I don't know what we were spending it on.
[4:27] Just bills and food and clothes.
[4:31] Quite a bit.
[4:32] We were going out for meals and
[4:35] Yeah, we tend to go out for meals a lot rather than
[4:40] like partying and stuff.
[4:41] We don't do that anymore.
[4:42] We're over that now.
[4:45] The recovery time's just not good.
[4:47] I don't mean, you know, just buying shit.
[4:49] I don't know.
[4:51] I honestly don't know.
[4:53] And you had had investments because you were saying you carried over a debt.
[4:56] Yes.
[4:57] A loss.
[4:58] We actually had five investments that we had picked.
[5:05] Nobody helped us pick them.
[5:07] Yeah.
[5:08] And I think that's the difference.
[5:11] We got to the point where we'd had enough.
[5:15] There was no structure in the way we were doing it.
[5:19] Yeah.
[5:21] We just bought because we were told, oh, you're only too much money.
[5:25] Not good areas, you know, not things that needed work.
[5:31] And we just got to the end of it and thinking, you know, why are we just spending all our money on this?
[5:38] Because we felt like we were asset rich and money poor because all our money was going into the negative gearing of the investment properties.
[5:50] And property is a great strategy, but it's got to be the right property.
[5:53] Yes.
[5:54] And we definitely didn't have the right properties because we didn't have the people around us to help us choose the right properties.
[6:02] And that's, I think, is key here.
[6:05] I think this might be why you joined Infinity.
[6:09] Exactly.
[6:09] Yes.
[6:11] Okay, fantastic.
[6:12] So what's changed?
[6:14] It's only been a few months that you've been with us.
[6:16] I don't know.
[6:16] So where are you guys at now?
[6:18] Oh, my God.
[6:18] Yeah.
[6:21] We had a caravan.
[6:23] We sold that.
[6:25] We sold that as straight after Masterclass.
[6:29] Was that?
[6:30] That was our aha moment.
[6:31] Okay, cool.
[6:32] I was going to ask, was that a hard decision?
[6:34] No, definitely not.
[6:36] One year we didn't even use it once, had cobwebs on it because we were always at work.
[6:42] I like to work.
[6:43] I'll work at home.
[6:46] Yeah.
[6:48] Yeah, so we sold that, paid that straight off the loan, which brought it down, and then we went to REM.
[7:01] And then when we got back from REM, we decided that was it.
[7:09] We only used one car.
[7:10] We had two cars, and we sold a car.
[7:16] And paid the mortgage off.
[7:18] So the mortgage is now zero.
[7:19] Do you think, because I think it's quite common, people kind of come in a little bit conservatively, like, we'll just see how this all happens.
[7:28] And then you come to REM and you look at, whoa, like this is incredible.
[7:32] We can do more.
[7:33] We can go a bit harder.
[7:34] We can sell that car.
[7:35] Yeah.
[7:36] It's not actually too much of a sacrifice.
[7:39] And it's like we're stepping up another gear.
[7:41] Exactly.
[7:41] Yeah, yeah.
[7:42] Well, it was just sitting in the garage.
[7:44] Yeah.
[7:46] I drove to work in one car and he had a work car.
[7:52] So it basically sat in the garage.
[7:55] It's crazy when you say it out loud, isn't it?
[7:57] At the time you think, oh no, we might need it at some point.
[8:00] But the reality is.
[8:01] It's like a step back moment and you actually take it all in and you realise you take more knowledge, take more, it's like, I don't know what's the word, more of a keen eye on what is actually going on and then that's when you make your decisions.
[8:16] I think it's opportunities.
[8:17] You then you can see these other opportunities.
[8:19] Hey, we don't need that.
[8:21] We could get rid of it.
[8:22] We can make do with this.
[8:23] Yeah.
[8:24] Well, we actually, when we went to REM, we spoke to our strategist and we said to him, we've sold the caravan.
[8:35] Can we get a better investment?
[8:37] And we actually got a better investment.
[8:41] opportunity at REM.
[8:42] You upgraded from a one bedroom to a two bedroom because you had sold the caravan.
[8:48] Already.
[8:49] That's fantastic.
[8:50] Yeah, we were so excited.
[8:52] Yep.
[8:52] So excited.
[8:53] We just see a new lease on Lifeside this week.
[8:55] That's a cliche.
[8:57] So a few months down, no more bad debt.
[9:00] No.
[9:01] How many investments?
[9:03] Four.
[9:06] Awesome.
[9:07] And a budget?
[9:08] A budget, 500.
[9:10] How's that going?
[9:11] Great.
[9:13] We usually have leftovers, which we just accumulate.
[9:18] And at the moment I'm using leftovers to buy Christmas presents.
[9:22] Gold star.
[9:23] Rather than taking it out of my other account.
[9:26] Yeah.
[9:26] Yeah.
[9:27] So... And that change to having that FFF.
[9:32] So you know how much you've got to spend every week.
[9:34] Yeah.
[9:35] Is that difficult?
[9:36] Nope.
[9:37] It's not been difficult, but it's been an eye-opener because the money that we're actually sweeping onto the loans is the same amount that I used to sweep every month on the credit card.
[9:56] So I don't actually know where the other money is coming from that we actually...
[10:03] are using.
[10:04] I have spoken to many clients before and they're like, is it magic?
[10:08] Like how?
[10:10] But we don't earn a lot of money.
[10:12] We're not big earners.
[10:14] I'm in administration and Steve runs a warehouse.
[10:19] So we don't earn huge amounts of money.
[10:22] So for us to do a 6k sweep every month,
[10:28] is just amazing because that's what we used to spend on our credit cards every month.
[10:33] So it comes down to the structure you're set up, correct?
[10:37] Yes.
[10:37] You're focused on budget and you've got, you set yourself your $500 FFF and you know you've got that to spend every week and you're not even spending that much.
[10:45] Yes.
[10:46] And being more purposeful and not buying the shit as you admitted earlier.
[10:52] And all of that is how you're able to continue to invest.
[10:56] Yeah.
[10:57] And upgrade.
[10:58] Yeah.
[10:59] And I can still take the grandson to McDonald's or, you know, every now and again and stuff like that.
[11:05] Or buy him a toy or he's into stickers at the moment.
[11:09] So, you know, stickers are cheap.
[11:10] So we go to buy stickers.
[11:13] And we're not about, like, you set your budget.
[11:16] Yeah.
[11:16] Yeah.
[11:17] So we're not about dictating to you.
[11:19] how much you're allowed to spend.
[11:20] If we see it's a little bit loose or excessive or lavish is one of my words, we might suggest that we rein it in.
[11:28] But I love the fact that you're using those surpluses to go towards the Christmas expenses.
[11:33] Yeah.
[11:34] So that you can maximize what you've got.
[11:38] And I think it can be more motivating.
[11:40] When you start to see that amount grow, you sweep every month.
[11:44] How does that feel, sweeping the money every month?
[11:47] It's amazing watching that balance go down is awesome.
[11:53] Yeah.
[11:54] So now we're working on the loss.
[11:56] The investment loss, yes.
[11:58] We're tidying that up.
[12:00] We are hoping to have that finished by January, end of January, which would be incredible.
[12:07] How will that feel though?
[12:08] Because, I mean, that's probably been a bit of a burden.
[12:10] It's been a bit of a weight on you.
[12:11] Oh, definitely.
[12:11] We've carried that for five years.
[12:14] Yeah.
[12:15] Yeah.
[12:16] That loss.
[12:17] Well, you guys are off to a flying start, that's for sure.
[12:21] Has there been anything tricky along the way?
[12:26] The only thing that's been tricky is the time difference between you guys and Perth.
[12:33] That's the only thing that has been tricky for us.
[12:37] We'll either start work early so we can finish early for ma'am and that sort of thing.
[12:45] Or I will mainly talk to Sam on the phone or text message because we don't get to sit down together
[12:55] And talk to Sam.
[12:56] Yeah.
[12:56] But it's all doable.
[12:58] Yeah.
[12:58] Yeah.
[12:59] Yeah.
[12:59] We just make different changes.
[13:02] Sam's your relationship manager.
[13:04] Yeah.
[13:04] And when you have questions, how do you communicate with him?
[13:08] I flick him a text message.
[13:09] Perfect.
[13:10] Have you got five minutes?
[13:11] Can I ring you?
[13:12] Yeah.
[13:13] And what sort of things are you asking?
[13:16] What do you need the guidance on?
[13:19] Well, the last question I asked him is once I finished paying this investment off,
[13:25] What do I do with my excess?
[13:26] Where do I sweep it?
[13:29] And he said that you call it the vault.
[13:33] So we've got to open another account, which is good for me because I don't want it to build up where our salary goes because that just makes me feel like I've got more money to spend.
[13:46] And you do.
[13:47] It is your money, but absolutely psychology of money.
[13:50] Gee talks about it a lot.
[13:51] If it's there, you're likely to spend it.
[13:54] If we just move it over to another place, you're likely to get excited to continue to grow that so you can keep investing.
[14:01] Yeah, we want to get another investment.
[14:04] It's good because it gives us goals now.
[14:07] We want to invest more, so we're not going to get there if we don't invest.
[14:10] If we don't stick to a system and invest.
[14:13] Follow the rules.
[14:14] Yeah.
[14:15] Follow our rules.
[14:16] We've put the rules in place, really.
[14:18] Well, that's it.
[14:18] We've given you kind of the map and shown you the path, but it's you guys that do the work because you spend the money.
[14:24] You either tap, tap, tap a rule or you don't.
[14:25] Yeah.
[14:27] So what you've managed to do in this short time is really impressive.
[14:31] You mentioned the man before, the monthly accountability meetings.
[14:34] Yeah.
[14:36] What do you think of those?
[14:37] Yeah.
[14:38] Um, it's pretty good.
[14:41] Yeah, it's, it's good how people get on there and tell them tell us all what they're doing.
[14:48] And so, you know, we can pick up tips and all those sorts of things.
[14:52] And we talk about meal prepping and
[14:56] Yeah.
[14:57] Are you in the Facebook group?
[14:58] Yes, definitely.
[15:00] Are you a keyboard warrior or just an observer?
[15:05] I do now and now.
[15:06] I like to encourage people.
[15:08] I do read it.
[15:09] Yeah.
[15:10] I like it, but yeah.
[15:11] You won't really type anything on there?
[15:13] I don't really.
[15:13] I'm not a big fan of Facebook in a lot of ways, so...
[15:18] I take interest in that.
[15:20] I like to encourage people as well.
[15:23] I think the Facebook group is fantastic because as a community, we're actually here to encourage and support each other.
[15:30] There's no nasty people.
[15:31] No.
[15:32] And, you know, you've come to REM.
[15:33] You would have met people, more people from WA and people from all around and then you see what they're doing and you're like, oh, we met that people.
[15:40] We've got friends.
[15:42] We've made friends with people from Perth.
[15:45] through REM.
[15:45] Fantastic.
[15:46] Yeah and we still keep in contact through Messenger and stuff so.
[15:49] And you came to our community catch-up at Cottesloe when it absolutely bucketed down rain on us.
[15:56] It was incredible.
[15:57] It was supposed to be nice and sunny.
[15:59] Yeah no that was great.
[16:01] That was phenomenal.
[16:02] That was fantastic.
[16:03] We had a great time and you're there in a room or
[16:07] in the Cottesloe Hotel in the bar with so many people who are like-minded and it's just easy to communicate, chat.
[16:15] And the amount of people that just talk about their finances.
[16:19] I mean, we're really from a generation where you don't talk about finances.
[16:24] You don't tell people what you've got or, you know, how much you spend or stuff like that.
[16:32] That's just.
[16:33] I like to think now it's just numbers.
[16:37] Yeah.
[16:37] Isn't it?
[16:38] It doesn't mean it's not a show of my worth or your worth or anything.
[16:41] It's just numbers.
[16:43] It's encouraging to see other people succeed as well, you know, like when you see their sweeps as well.
[16:48] It might not be a huge sweep, but it's a sweep, you know, and that's something that's, you know, you've achieved something.
[16:52] And it's a change to what they would have been doing with their money.
[16:54] They would have all been buying shit as well.
[16:55] Exactly.
[16:56] Yeah, exactly.
[16:58] Yeah.
[16:58] Yeah.
[16:59] The community is invaluable in that way because it's...
[17:03] I mean, it's encouraging.
[17:04] I love it.
[17:04] That's what it's all about, you know.
[17:05] I love it.
[17:06] I love the community.
[17:08] I love it how everybody helps each other, pats everybody on the back.
[17:14] There's no jealousy or anything like that.
[17:21] It's just fantastic.
[17:23] We obviously putting on these big events and stuff is quite expensive and, you know, fun.
[17:30] It is so important to Beck and G that we have these events for you guys.
[17:34] It would be much more profitable if we didn't, but we see the value that you get from them and they're so important to us.
[17:41] We actually, as a team, love coming to them just to be there and interact as well.
[17:46] Yeah.
[17:47] We love the team.
[17:49] We just love them.
[17:50] Yeah.
[17:52] So I know that you're only relatively new here.
[17:57] If you could start your journey again.
[17:59] Would there be anything you'd do differently?
[18:01] Yeah, start 20 years ago.
[18:03] True.
[18:04] I know, isn't it?
[18:05] I think that's everybody's answer.
[18:08] But, yeah, start 20 years ago and talk to each other more about finances because Steve's never been interested.
[18:16] I've always paid the bills.
[18:18] I've always done the money.
[18:21] He just goes to work and puts food on the table basically.
[18:25] Yeah.
[18:26] And it's always done that for us and the kids and not that I have never not worked.
[18:32] But I guess a lot of people's mindset is, well, we're paying our bills.
[18:37] Yeah.
[18:38] We're doing okay.
[18:39] But the problem is they don't realize what other opportunities that they could take advantage of because no one's told them.
[18:47] Exactly.
[18:47] And then now you're realizing, you know, what's done is done.
[18:51] I know it's sad to feel like we all could have done this so much earlier.
[18:55] Exactly.
[18:55] But hey, from now on, how much more can we do?
[18:59] And it's not to be greedy.
[19:01] It's to grow to the best possible position you can be in and then you've got more choice.
[19:07] We want to live comfortably in our retirement.
[19:11] We don't want to live on the pension.
[19:14] I don't honestly think the pension's going to be there when we retire, you know, the way the government talks.
[19:21] But I don't know.
[19:23] I just don't want to have to worry about living on such a small amount.
[19:29] you know, still being able to go on holidays and stuff.
[19:32] When the job's over and done.
[19:34] Yeah.
[19:35] You know.
[19:36] I think choice.
[19:37] Yeah.
[19:38] I just want to have choice.
[19:39] What do I do?
[19:40] Do I continue working?
[19:40] Because I like it.
[19:41] Because apparently.
[19:42] Apparently.
[19:43] I love my job.
[19:44] Tracy still really likes it.
[19:46] Not sure.
[19:46] You haven't really weighed in too much on that one.
[19:49] My boss tells me I'm not allowed to retire.
[19:51] Okay.
[19:52] Fantastic.
[19:53] Well, I came from working for the council, doing a crap job, so to speak, and I was given an opportunity by Tracy's boss.
[20:02] And now the production manager likes to call me the warehouse manager, but the manager titles of it.
[20:09] Not used to that yet.
[20:10] So, yeah, so I run the warehouse and it's computer work, which I can't say I've really done.
[20:17] And there's hands-on as well.
[20:19] So, like, they're TAing for technicians and all that kind of thing.
[20:23] So my job aspect is amazing.
[20:25] You know, I get to do a variety of things.
[20:28] So it keeps me...
[20:29] You've learnt a lot, haven't you?
[20:31] I have.
[20:31] Yeah.
[20:32] Yeah.
[20:33] Being as old as I am.
[20:34] And it's enjoyable.
[20:35] Yeah.
[20:35] It's enjoyable to go to work.
[20:36] We enjoy.
[20:37] It goes to shame.
[20:37] You can always change your scenario.
[20:39] It's never too late sort of thing.
[20:41] Exactly.
[20:41] People join infinity at all different points in their life and it's never too late.
[20:45] I did say to the boss when I was doing my, what do you call it, review.
[20:51] Yeah.
[20:51] And I said, of all the years I've worked, this is the best job I've ever had.
[20:57] most satisfaction that I've ever had in a job.
[21:00] Oh, you know your boss is going to watch this, don't you?
[21:02] Well played.
[21:03] Well played, Steve.
[21:04] Well played.
[21:05] Yeah, no, I mean.
[21:07] He knows about this, our boss.
[21:10] He's all for it.
[21:12] Yeah.
[21:13] No.
[21:13] Yeah.
[21:14] Sounds great.
[21:16] Any final words?
[21:17] If people were kind of sitting on the fence about whether or not to join Infinity, what would you say to them?
[21:23] Watch all the podcasts.
[21:24] I mean, if you see our podcast, send us a message.
[21:28] We'll talk to you.
[21:29] No dramas.
[21:30] We'll give you the information you'd want.
[21:32] Yeah.
[21:33] But at the end of the day.
[21:34] Watch the webinars.
[21:34] Yeah, watch the webinars.
[21:36] But at the end of the day, it's you who has to make the decision if you think it's worth for you or not.
[21:40] And like I say, we made that decision and we can't, we don't look back, you know, we're just going forward with this and it's just amazing.
[21:49] Well, you've made huge progress in a few months.
[21:52] I look forward to seeing what your 12-month review looks like.
[21:56] I can't wait for that either.
[21:58] Yeah.
[21:58] Fantastic.
[21:59] Yeah.
[21:59] Like I say, we've got them goals and.
[22:01] We're working on those, knocking those goals now.
[22:03] Well done, guys.
[22:05] Yeah.
[22:05] Well, thank you so much for your time.
[22:07] Thank you.
[22:07] Thank you very much.
[22:08] Look forward to, yeah, seeing the next podcast.
[22:11] Yes.
