In this episode of The Money Mentor Podcast, we sit down with Stacey & Brad, alongside with Chantal, to unpack a powerful transformation that shows what’s possible with the right system, support, and accountability. Before joining Infinity, Stacey & Brad had a $430k home loan, no budget, no structure, and no investment strategy. Like many families, they refinanced their home to purchase a car and were living without a clear financial plan or direction. Since joining Infinity in March 2024, their journey has been life changing. They sold their home, upgraded into their dream family home, dramatically reduced their home loan while building redraw, purchased two investment properties, and created a sustainable FFF that supports their family of four (plus pets!), all while feeling calm, confident, and in control. With consistent monthly accountability, clear outcomes, and the support of the Infinity community, Stacey & Brad have completely reshaped not just their finances, but their family life and mindset around money. 👉 Watch the free webinar to start your journey: https://bit.ly/43V2jKN

## Transcript

[0:00] Just the facts from where we started to now having like a multi-million dollar property portfolio is absolutely wild.
[0:07] In 18 months and you haven't sacrificed too much for it.
[0:12] No.
[0:12] You've changed probably some thinking and some habits, but they're all for the better.
[0:18] Money isn't rude of all evil, the fucking lack of it is.
[0:20] Not money, the lack of understanding money.
[0:23] When I put that into emphasis, when I realised that psychological effect and how it hit our family, I have to be in the fucking way.
[0:29] You're welcome.
[0:38] Hey guys, I'm Chantal, team leader of the Relationship Managers here at Infinity and I've got the amazing Brad and Stacey from Victoria with us.
[0:49] Hello guys, welcome.
[0:50] How are you?
[0:51] Good, thank you.
[0:52] Awesome.
[0:52] How's your day been?
[0:53] You got to have a chat with G earlier?
[0:55] Yep.
[0:55] Yep, that went really well.
[0:57] Excellent.
[0:57] Did you get any new one-liners?
[1:00] No, I don't think I got any.
[1:03] Just rolling out the same ones.
[1:04] Yep.
[1:05] Yeah.
[1:06] Same old G. Yeah, perfect, perfect.
[1:08] What you see is what you get.
[1:10] Look, just wanted to have a bit of a chat with you guys today about your journey with Infinity, but sort of focusing on how it's been in terms of...
[1:20] the budgeting side and rapid repay and how that's all worked for you because it must have worked for you because you're here and you're happy and you're smiling and we're in a really good position it's a quick snapshot where were you before you joined infinity with debt level and investments and where are you at now so pre infinity we had a property was bought for 440 we still had 430 left on the mortgage when we started with infinity how did you have a property you bought for 440
[1:47] at 0430 after four years how did that happen uh because i was a genius and i refinanced the mortgage to buy a car oh ouch yeah it's okay when we know better we do better yeah but um yeah then brad came into the picture and we sort of pulled our resources together um
[2:07] We signed up with Infinity and they restructured the mortgage.
[2:12] We unlocked some equity and then we got our first property at our first REM.
[2:17] That was 2024.
[2:18] Yeah.
[2:21] Now we've got two.
[2:22] Fantastic.
[2:23] And what's the debt level like now?
[2:26] So we've sold our initial property.
[2:30] We bought a new property.
[2:33] That mortgage started at $495 and it's currently at $221.
[2:36] So that's $270-odd thousand dollar pay down?
[2:38] Yes.
[2:45] Wow, that's incredible.
[2:46] Since January?
[2:48] How did you do that?
[2:50] Magic.
[2:51] It's like that sometimes.
[2:52] Pulled it off that money tree.
[2:54] Yeah, fantastic.
[2:55] No, we, yeah, we sold the old property.
[3:00] We sold a couple of things around the house, just going through the shed and finding stuff that we don't need, doesn't get used.
[3:06] Yeah.
[3:07] just collecting dust and yeah, just really knuckling down.
[3:11] Fantastic.
[3:12] Budget.
[3:13] Ah, that's what I was looking for.
[3:14] Magic word.
[3:15] Yeah, following the system.
[3:16] So talk to me about the budget.
[3:17] Did you have a budget before infinity?
[3:21] Graham says no.
[3:23] Right, if you had a budget and didn't stick to it, anyone want to finish the sentence?
[3:28] It was a, uh, pay all the bills and then whatever was left, spend it.
[3:35] We had a bills account that we put money in every fortnight to make sure everything was covered and then everything else just got spent.
[3:43] What did you spend on?
[3:45] Crap.
[3:47] It's terrible when you think about it, isn't it?
[3:49] Yeah, you just buy superfluous shit that you don't need.
[3:53] I was a big one for it.
[3:55] I used to just buy stuff to make myself feel happy.
[4:01] It's that little dopamine hit every time you tap the card.
[4:04] Yeah.
[4:05] And so do you miss that?
[4:06] No.
[4:08] Not at all.
[4:09] How come what's changed?
[4:09] Because you get a bigger dopamine hit when you can go to REM and buy a property.
[4:14] Yeah.
[4:14] Fantastic.
[4:16] And when you're paying down the mortgage, you're being purposeful with your money and you can see that what you're now doing works.
[4:22] It becomes a game.
[4:23] Like we got our pay in last week and we're at $97,000 in the redraw.
[4:31] And I'm like, oh, I just want to transfer that extra three grand just to get us over the line.
[4:36] We've got to wait till next pay though.
[4:38] So I'm just like, oh.
[4:39] But those milestones are incredible and that's what helps keep pushing you along.
[4:44] Yeah.
[4:45] So seeing, yeah, another $3,000 and you've got $100,000 in redraw, which is incredible.
[4:52] Two investment properties, you've upgraded your home.
[4:55] Yeah.
[4:56] So what has having a budget looked like for your family?
[5:01] Like what is your FFF if you don't mind sharing?
[5:05] We started at $750.
[5:06] Yep.
[5:07] And then with Ellie we've been able to get it down to $600.
[5:12] And what's the family dynamic, the make-up of the family there?
[5:16] So we've got us, we've got two kids at home and then the menagerie of animals.
[5:23] So two dogs and a cat.
[5:25] And so 600 now?
[5:27] Yep, 600 now.
[5:28] Doable?
[5:28] Easy?
[5:29] Oh, it's easy.
[5:30] We've had like 100 bucks left over at the end of the fortnight.
[5:33] I just push it straight into the mortgage.
[5:34] I'm like, it doesn't get spent.
[5:36] It's going.
[5:37] Yeah, by the time we meal prep and everything like that, as well as doing 60 Strong, so that's kind of helping us a bit too.
[5:46] Yeah.
[5:47] Health-wise and money-wise as well.
[5:51] And we still do stuff like maybe one week we'll put 50 bucks aside.
[5:55] So the next week we can take the kids to the movies or like if there's an event that we want to go into, we'll actually like put it as we're going to go do that.
[6:05] So, so you haven't really missed out on anything?
[6:08] No, no, no, not at all.
[6:11] And what do the kids think about this new sort of strategy?
[6:18] I don't think much has really changed for them.
[6:21] Like occasionally they'll get frustrated.
[6:24] It's more so around like, can you buy me more Fortnite, Bieber?
[6:28] No, you don't need that.
[6:32] But just around daily living stuff, like they still get everything they need.
[6:36] Like they're not going without anything.
[6:38] So it hasn't really changed much for them in their space.
[6:44] And hopefully I guess that...
[6:46] the sort of slow down on spending like fort fortnight whatever it is those games etc slow down filters through that they will learn not through immediate gratification yeah um so everything's been easy structures in place obviously you've got a team that has helped with that do you guys think
[7:10] that you ever would have been in this position to investment properties, paying down the mortgage, not too far away from a hundred thousand dollars.
[7:17] Could you guys have done that without the team you've got?
[7:21] Not a chance.
[7:21] No, no way.
[7:23] No.
[7:23] Everything we've been able to create is because we joined Infinity.
[7:28] Like it was the best investment in us and our finances, like our future, our family that we've ever made.
[7:36] And it hasn't been hard.
[7:39] It's not hard at all.
[7:41] Like you literally have people holding your hand.
[7:44] Like it's okay.
[7:45] Just do it a little step at a time.
[7:48] It's not a massive change all of a sudden.
[7:50] Follow the process.
[7:51] Yeah.
[7:52] And if you've got questions, what do you do with those?
[7:54] You just ask your RM.
[7:56] Like anytime.
[7:56] We just text Ellie.
[7:58] Anything.
[7:59] And she's amazing.
[8:00] She'll just tell us what we need to know.
[8:02] Or if she doesn't know the answer, she'll go find someone that does know the answer.
[8:06] Yeah.
[8:08] or like even just the Facebook page, the community page that we've got.
[8:12] If you have questions, stick them up on there.
[8:14] And there's like, what, 4,000 people in the Facebook group?
[8:19] So many people will come and help you with a question.
[8:21] Like it's just a massive community and team there to back you every minute of the way.
[8:26] The Infinity community is incredible.
[8:30] I met you guys at our Levantine Yarrow Valley community event, which was fantastic.
[8:36] So many like-minded people in there.
[8:38] Yeah.
[8:39] Tell me about your experience with just being a part of that because it can be a difficult journey if people around you don't know what it is exactly you're trying to do and may not have the faith that you do.
[8:53] Yeah.
[8:53] I think if you were trying to do it by yourself,
[8:58] it would be really hard to keep up the momentum and everything.
[9:03] But with the community, like going to events and meeting people from our area who are doing the exact same thing as us, it's really inspiring.
[9:14] And to see how far people have actually been able to take their own journeys and...
[9:19] And it kind of, yeah, it's really cool to see how amazing everyone else is and everyone's like, what's the word?
[9:30] They're like supporting you and trying to push you to do better.
[9:33] Well, in polite society, people don't typically broadcast, oh, I owe this much money on my home loan or I have these many investment properties.
[9:42] We've got a massive tall poppy.
[9:45] issue with the Australian society in general but our infinity community is not like that at all not at all like everyone's like how many properties did you get oh my god cool I got this many and then we're just like celebrating it together yeah and no matter what anyone else has got there's no jealousy it's just it's a pat on the back like that's freaking awesome yeah and then it kind of wants inspires you to think well we could do that yeah it just makes
[10:17] And what's been your biggest win so far with Infinity, would you say?
[10:19] Financial freedom.
[10:24] Oh, don't say that.
[10:25] They will slap you.
[10:28] I guess having a plan, I think.
[10:32] Yeah, as in, yeah, that's what I meant.
[10:34] Yeah.
[10:35] Yeah, and knowing that you can work towards more than you probably ever, I don't want to put words in your mouth, but more than you thought was possible.
[10:44] I think our biggest win is that we know 100% that our family will never have to go without a roof over their head or without food in the cupboard.
[10:56] We've set us up to the point where that's not something that we have to worry about and that's not something my kids have to worry about.
[11:04] And is that something, you know, that's been a fear prior to infinity?
[11:10] Yeah.
[11:11] Like something in the past and, you know, not wanting to repeat the past sort of thing?
[11:16] Yeah.
[11:17] Yeah.
[11:17] Like Brad, you were in commission housing growing up.
[11:21] Yeah.
[11:22] And then when I was a kid, there was a point where we were homeless and we used to always get food hampers.
[11:29] So we've kind of both come from that experience where we've seen that hardship and how much it affects kids.
[11:38] And as soon as I was able to, I was obsessed with just being able to own my own house so I could put a roof over my son's head.
[11:46] And then now to where we are, like we've got investment properties.
[11:50] If something happens, we don't need to stress about anything.
[11:53] Like if a tire goes on the car, it doesn't matter, we just take it out of the redraw.
[11:58] Like if the,
[11:59] Cat gets sick and needs an operation.
[12:01] We just take it out of the retail.
[12:02] It's fine.
[12:03] Like we don't have to worry about sacrificing food to pay those expenses that might or do crop up when they happen.
[12:14] Yeah, because we can't guarantee that.
[12:17] things will always go to plan and perfection in our budgeting and our life.
[12:22] There's gonna be things that pop up, but you guys have kind of let that stress go because you're sticking to the budget A, B, because the structure is right.
[12:31] And you've got surplus funds if you need it, but for now they are working hard against that bad debt.
[12:39] And I think kind of got a little bit of what you were saying, Stacey, you've moved from that mindset of,
[12:46] scarcity and and wanting to make sure you provide for your family to now actually be in a position where you'll be looking at generational wealth for them yeah so that that that goal that you thought was going to be the be all and end all is just the beginning yeah now it's got to mold their minds so they keep it going yeah
[13:04] Totally, totally.
[13:05] We want the next generation of, gee, don't let them hear all the swearing and stuff.
[13:09] I think that's what they like the most.
[13:12] Probably, probably.
[13:13] So how does it feel to be in this position?
[13:17] You've only been with us since March last year, so we're probably 18 months in.
[13:23] Yep.
[13:24] And you've already had these great achievements.
[13:26] How does that feel?
[13:27] Yeah.
[13:28] Yeah.
[13:30] Yeah, like it's not real.
[13:32] It's like you kind of pinch yourself.
[13:37] Yeah, it's a good feeling.
[13:39] I think just the fact from where we started to now having like a multi-million dollar property portfolio is absolutely wild.
[13:48] In 18 months and you haven't sacrificed too much for it.
[13:53] No.
[13:53] You've changed probably some thinking and some habits.
[13:57] But they're all for the better.
[13:58] Yeah.
[13:59] We haven't...
[14:00] I don't think there's anything we've actually sacrificed.
[14:03] Like, it's more so just been getting rid of the shit that we don't need, that we thought we needed.
[14:12] And if you could start your infinity journey again, would you do anything differently?
[14:18] Um...
[14:21] I think we maybe go a little bit harder, a little bit faster.
[14:25] So, yeah, I hear that a lot.
[14:29] Do you think the reason you didn't was just sort of nerves or maybe not belief in yourself?
[14:33] What was it that kind of maybe held you back a little bit?
[14:39] I think we were just a bit hesitant to reach out to the team and ask for help.
[14:47] Yeah.
[14:48] We kind of felt like a burden asking for help at the start.
[14:53] So we probably didn't talk to our first RM as much as we should have.
[14:58] Whereas since we've been with Ellie, she's been pushing us like booking your monthly accountability meeting and just keeping in touch with us and making sure we're on track.
[15:09] So it's been good to sort of
[15:11] have her initiate those engagements.
[15:14] So we don't feel like we're bothering her.
[15:17] She's like, no, no, no, you need to come and talk to me.
[15:20] Absolutely.
[15:21] As an RM, you want to talk to your clients.
[15:23] It's, you know, it's, it's really a privilege to be part of the journey.
[15:26] Talk to me about the monthly accountability meetings.
[15:29] What does that look like?
[15:30] What's involved?
[15:32] What do you guys take from it?
[15:33] Oh, I love them.
[15:35] They're so good.
[15:37] I love seeing everybody's wins like they do.
[15:40] These people have bought three properties or these people bought four properties.
[15:45] And it's just like a massive celebration every month.
[15:47] Like this is what's coming up.
[15:49] This is what we're doing.
[15:52] Have you guys got your tickets yet?
[15:55] Oh, important question.
[15:56] Have you got your tickets yet?
[15:57] We have got our tickets.
[15:58] Oh yeah.
[15:59] Got your costumes or your outfit?
[16:01] No, not yet.
[16:02] Not yet.
[16:02] Okay.
[16:04] And what about your check in meetings with Ellie, your relationship manager?
[16:07] What does that look like?
[16:09] They're great.
[16:10] Yeah, we kind of look forward to them, don't we?
[16:12] I do.
[16:12] Yeah, absolutely.
[16:14] I love seeing her just go through our statements and she's like, oh, yeah, everything's looking good.
[16:20] It's like, what's this?
[16:20] I was like, oh, that was this, this, this, and this.
[16:22] And she's like, okay.
[16:25] So it's good.
[16:26] And look, it's not too restrictive.
[16:27] It's your money after all.
[16:28] You set your budget.
[16:29] Yeah.
[16:30] We kind of just will highlight areas that we might see slippage that could be tidied up, but it sounds like you guys are pretty well onto that.
[16:38] And you've got to live life.
[16:40] Yeah.
[16:40] It is absolutely not a no fun policy.
[16:43] This is infinity after all.
[16:44] It's too much fun.
[16:46] There must be fun.
[16:49] Fun, but it's got to be smart.
[16:51] Yeah.
[16:52] So those meetings with Ellie...
[16:56] on occasion, is there ever nervousness?
[17:00] Is one of you a little closet spender?
[17:03] No, no, I think we're both pretty good.
[17:06] Yeah.
[17:06] I think, yeah, at the start it probably took us a little bit to get in the habit of like not spending for that instant gratification.
[17:13] But now we're both pretty much on track.
[17:16] Like we don't go and spend, we just don't go to the shops if we don't need stuff.
[17:20] Like there's no point just walking through there for the fun of it.
[17:24] Yeah.
[17:25] It's just a pretty simple, like that's not a big change.
[17:28] It's a simple mindset shift.
[17:31] Yeah.
[17:32] You don't need to because I think you said that before, you bought things to make you feel good.
[17:36] Yeah.
[17:37] Yeah.
[17:37] Because we worked hard and we deserved it.
[17:42] And you do, but you also deserve a great future.
[17:45] So, you know, you guys are setting yourselves up for that and setting the family up for that.
[17:49] So congratulations because we give you the path and the design, but you guys actually have to do the work and work
[17:55] and push down there and obviously follow up when you are looking to to go harder yeah we had that conversation in the Yarra Valley about yeah we want to we want to go again we need to to look at what we need to do and then came through to the team got you you know new docs new assessment and off you went back to REM
[18:18] Yeah, we weren't taking it for an answer.
[18:20] I was like, I'm going back to REM.
[18:23] And you said something before about REM, about having a REM hangover, and I was like, oh, I don't know.
[18:28] But you didn't mean from drinking too much.
[18:30] What did you mean?
[18:31] What do you mean by having a REM hangover?
[18:34] Just the higher you get from REM, like being around everyone that's so supportive and so goal-driven and motivated and doing all the same things.
[18:44] Yeah, everyone like yourself, basically.
[18:47] Yeah, you just feed off their energy and it's just such a phenomenal experience to be around five, six hundred people that are all in the same energy space.
[19:03] I describe REM to some people like it's a vibe.
[19:06] And I know that sounds really vague, but it is when you've been.
[19:09] Yeah.
[19:10] You know what that's like.
[19:11] The energy is incredible.
[19:14] education I imagine not being your first room you probably still picked up bits and pieces that were presented in terms of the education and you know there's value in that alone absolutely like every step of the way the master class the webinar like there's so much education that infinity gives out and you're always picking up something new or something you can do a little bit different just to tweak your strategy to get you to where you want to go faster up
[19:42] Sounds like big ticks for you guys.
[19:44] Yeah.
[19:45] Life is good.
[19:46] Life is great.
[19:47] And just a shout out, I read some notes, Stacey's lost a whopping amount of weight.
[19:52] So the, you know, the mindset change from what you're doing with finances sort of flows through and can become quite holistic in you guys, you know, meal prepping, doing all those things are smart for budget, but obviously great for health as well and teaching the kids.
[20:07] Yeah.
[20:08] Yeah, well, I think it's good.
[20:10] Like Graham's very much health focused as well as wealth.
[20:14] Like you've got to have your wealth and you've got to have your health.
[20:18] And just having a community that's not just about finance, like everyone's looking for a holistic well-being.
[20:27] We're doing the 60 Strong Challenge at the moment.
[20:30] So there's hundreds of people all together who are meal prepping and exercising every day and 10,000 steps and all this stuff.
[20:39] And it's just like we're doing it as a team with...
[20:42] our mortgage broker.
[20:45] It sounds weird, doesn't it?
[20:46] But it's a community and I love that.
[20:49] Yeah, we want to support you as a community.
[20:51] We want support for the financial gains and the debt reduction, but the health improvements as well.
[20:58] I'm so glad you guys are taking advantage of it.
[21:00] It's there.
[21:01] It's something that we know goes hand in hand.
[21:03] So well done.
[21:05] Congratulations.
[21:07] And lastly, what would you say to someone who was maybe thinking about joining Infinity but sitting on the fence?
[21:14] It's a free webinar.
[21:15] Like seriously, it's free.
[21:18] You just do it.
[21:19] I feel like there's so many sceptics out there.
[21:23] Yeah, there is.
[21:25] But nah, it's in all honesty, I think when we were looking at paying and signing up for the masterclass, I was studying a bachelor degree.
[21:35] And every unit of the bachelor degree is like $1,500 in its cost.
[21:43] And I figured that I would get more value out of doing a two-day masterclass than I would doing some of the units that are mandatory in a bachelor degree.
[21:55] And we did.
[21:57] And I would pay for infinity 100 times over.
[22:03] because of the value that we've gotten out of it.
[22:07] And hopefully, I guess, hand in hand, the learning.
[22:10] You know, you've had some great financial gains, but you've learnt.
[22:14] Yeah, that was the big thing.
[22:16] Just learning about money, learning how to use money properly.
[22:21] And are you confident with money now?
