Hollywood icon Morris Chestnut joins the R&B Money Podcast for a conversation about more than three decades of film, television, music, and longevity. Morris takes us back to the role that changed everything—Ricky Baker in Boyz n the Hood—and reflects on working with John Singleton, becoming a leading man in Hollywood, and building a career that would eventually include classics like The Best Man, The Brothers, Two Can Play That Game, Think Like a Man and The Best Man Holiday. Navigating Hollywood as a leading man, being labeled a sex symbol, staying disciplined, and what it takes to remain relevant for more than 30 years. And there’s an R&B Money connection happening right now: Morris returns as attorney Corey Cash for Season 4 of Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt, while Tank makes his debut as a series regular, playing wealthy R&B artist Eric Cropper—a longtime client of Jax whose problems become central to the new season. #RnBMoney See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

[0:39] Speaker 1: Stumped down. Came through here godly. Yeah, yeah. With his
[0:43] Speaker 1: cream on. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He acted like he was
[0:47] Speaker 1: like one of the most beautiful men who already lived
[0:50] Speaker 1: in the world, man. I think he won one year. Jay,
[0:53] Speaker 1: he's alive. What? He's alive! Ricky! Ricky! That's hilarious. Listen,
[1:01] Speaker 1: we normally do the long intros, but I don't want
[1:03] Speaker 1: to label before you long, man. The man is here.
[1:06] Speaker 1: The best man. V. Chestnut is what they call him.
[1:09] Speaker 1: Morris Chestnut! In the building! Yes! Thank y'all for the intro, man.
[1:14] Speaker 1: I'm quitting. I'm quitting. I don't even... Come on! I
[1:16] Speaker 1: don't like a lot of attention. Thank y'all. Cut it out!
[1:19] Speaker 1: We didn't brought the boy back to this. Yeah! Yeah! Morris,
[1:24] Speaker 1: my brother. Yes, sir. I mean, we've been doing this
[1:27] Speaker 1: a month of Sundays. You know, I remember at one point,
[1:31] Speaker 1: you know, I had a couple hit records on the radio, Jay.
[1:34] Speaker 1: A couple hit records. And what you thought you was doing?
[1:38] Speaker 1: You know, I thought I was doing it. Okay? You
[1:41] Speaker 1: know what it means. And then. You know, and so
[1:43] Speaker 1: we doing the celebrity basketball game, and I know the
[1:47] Speaker 1: ladies is here to see me. You know what I'm saying?
[1:49] Speaker 1: In your mind. Because I got hit songs, and I
[1:52] Speaker 1: can hoop. You understand what I'm saying? I'm athletic, as
[1:55] Speaker 1: they like to call it. It's time to call the names.
[1:59] Speaker 1: You understand what I'm saying? They said celebrities. I'm like,
[2:02] Speaker 1: just be careful where you put me in the lineup,
[2:04] Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? Because whoever come after me...
[2:06] Speaker 1: Them screams might not be as crazy. It's like when
[2:08] Speaker 1: they had graduation and they'd be like, you know, just
[2:11] Speaker 1: everybody just clap a little. Just clap a little. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So,
[2:15] Speaker 1: you know, I wanted to strategically be in the right
[2:17] Speaker 1: position so I wouldn't shade nobody after the fact. You
[2:20] Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? You know how the celebrities can
[2:22] Speaker 1: be a little, you know. So he announced my name
[2:25] Speaker 1: and the ladies screamed. You know, I go out there
[2:28] Speaker 1: and I run to the center of the court. I
[2:29] Speaker 1: show them a little bit of a six pack because
[2:31] Speaker 1: I have that on me. Wait, wait, wait. You run
[2:34] Speaker 1: to the court and pull up your shirt? Center court
[2:36] Speaker 1: and pull up my shirt, Jay. That's what I do.
[2:41] Speaker 1: That's the only reason why I'm here. And I get
[2:44] Speaker 1: the screams, I get the love that I know I
[2:47] Speaker 1: am due, that I am warranted. And then they're going
[2:51] Speaker 1: to call another fella's name. I'm like, well, good luck
[2:53] Speaker 1: to this guy. He's my friend, but I was like,
[2:56] Speaker 1: I don't know how this is going to go. Give
[2:59] Speaker 1: it up for Morris Davis. Chestnut! So y'all like Morris? Yeah.
[3:11] Speaker 1: I'm cool. Oh, man. He proceeds to steal all the
[3:16] Speaker 1: love and screams. Apparently, he looks better than me. People Magazine, man. Apparently,
[3:25] Speaker 1: I should shave all my hair off and just rock
[3:28] Speaker 1: the cold seat. I told you. Niggas don't listen. Fuck you, Jerry.
[3:36] Speaker 1: The vision board is right here. Bro, you are just,
[3:43] Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you are just a living legend, brother.
[3:47] Speaker 1: Just iconic in so many ways, man. More so, I think,
[3:51] Speaker 1: you know, we're going to get to all the talent
[3:55] Speaker 1: and the success and all of these things, man. But
[3:58] Speaker 1: from what I've known about you from the beginning is
[4:01] Speaker 1: you You are just a stand-up human being. Thank you, man.
[4:04] Speaker 1: Just a beautiful brother, man. And so we salute that
[4:07] Speaker 1: more than anything, especially in this place. You know what
[4:10] Speaker 1: I mean? As it pertains to you being a family
[4:13] Speaker 1: man and keeping all of those things in its proper
[4:18] Speaker 1: perspective and honoring them the way you do. Like that
[4:21] Speaker 1: to me, brother, that's the study material. Thank you, man.
[4:26] Speaker 1: That all of us men, especially black men, Need to
[4:29] Speaker 1: subscribe to, man. So I just want to give you
[4:30] Speaker 1: those flowers off the top. Thank you. We're watching you differently. Yeah,
[4:35] Speaker 1: for sure. For sure. You know what I'm saying? Great
[4:38] Speaker 1: example for all of us, brother. Yes. Yes. Now let's
[4:42] Speaker 1: go back to the beginning, man. Okay. Let's... Let's start in,
[4:47] Speaker 1: because this is you Southern California born, right? Southern California
[4:50] Speaker 1: born and raised. Give me the street. Okay, so I
[4:53] Speaker 1: was born in L.A. and I was raised in Cerritos. Okay.
[4:58] Speaker 1: But I've always been in California. Cerritos Auto School. Yeah,
[5:00] Speaker 1: Cerritos Auto School. That's where people know I'm from. That's
[5:03] Speaker 1: where people know I'm from, Cerritos Auto School. I'm really
[5:05] Speaker 1: from California, bro. No, it's a commercial, bro. Oh, yeah.
[5:10] Speaker 1: I've been playing on the radio. For years. And that's
[5:13] Speaker 1: how you know what Cerritos is. That's the only way
[5:15] Speaker 1: somebody knew where Cerritos was, unless you were like in
[5:20] Speaker 1: the area. So back in the day... We had a
[5:23] Speaker 1: skating rink called Skate Depot. So people would come from
[5:26] Speaker 1: Long Beach, Compton, Carson, all the surrounding areas. I think
[5:30] Speaker 1: it was like Friday nights. Yeah, I'm from the Bay Area.
[5:34] Speaker 1: And what I learned really early is when you go
[5:36] Speaker 1: to new cities, you don't go to they skating rink.
[5:39] Speaker 1: It's way too much going on. A lot going on
[5:41] Speaker 1: at the skating rink. I'm going to come to L.A.
[5:44] Speaker 1: and go to somebody's skating rink. I ain't been to
[5:47] Speaker 1: World on Wheels. You ever been to World of Warcraft?
[5:50] Speaker 1: Hell no. I went during kids' times. Yo, you went?
[5:53] Speaker 1: I went during kids' times. Oh, right, right, right, right.
[5:56] Speaker 1: Special event times. Niggas just don't be like, you want
[5:59] Speaker 1: to go skate? Nah. Right, right, right, right. Even where
[6:02] Speaker 1: I'm from in Maryland, D.C. I thought I got the setup.
[6:05] Speaker 1: Skating rings is always where it was. They couldn't wait.
[6:09] Speaker 1: Back in the day. Back in the day, yeah. But
[6:11] Speaker 1: I respected that, you know, the other people around Southern
[6:13] Speaker 1: California went there, but no. No, you were not. All
[6:15] Speaker 1: I know about is Cerritos Auto Square. That's what I
[6:17] Speaker 1: know about. Okay, yeah. And what was the call out
[6:21] Speaker 1: for you as a kid in terms of like the
[6:24] Speaker 1: arts of it all? See, that's a great question. It's
[6:28] Speaker 1: interesting when I look back on it. So for me,
[6:32] Speaker 1: what it was, was, so I was, I played football.
[6:36] Speaker 1: I didn't play basketball growing up as a kid. I
[6:38] Speaker 1: didn't play basketball until, pick up basketball until I was,
[6:41] Speaker 1: couldn't play football anymore. So I was playing high school
[6:44] Speaker 1: football and I was in, I was in advanced classes,
[6:47] Speaker 1: but I was never doing the work. So I was
[6:49] Speaker 1: a C student in all my classes. And I had
[6:54] Speaker 1: one of my advanced English classes in 11th grade. We
[6:57] Speaker 1: had to do a scene. And I did the scene.
[7:00] Speaker 1: My English teacher was like, oh, that was really good.
[7:03] Speaker 1: I thought that she was just trying to encourage me
[7:05] Speaker 1: to do better, to get better than a C, BIA
[7:08] Speaker 1: or whatever. And then, so then I was in 11th grade.
[7:12] Speaker 1: Then I graduated my first year in junior college. And
[7:15] Speaker 1: then my neighbor down the street, he came to the
[7:18] Speaker 1: house one day and was talking. He said, yeah, man.
[7:20] Speaker 1: He said, yeah, I was in Mrs. Meadows' class. And
[7:23] Speaker 1: he said, we got these scenes and she brought you up.
[7:25] Speaker 1: I was like, Mrs. Meadows brought me up? He's like, yeah.
[7:29] Speaker 1: And she said that you were one of the best
[7:30] Speaker 1: seniors she had seen. And I was like, oh, okay.
[7:34] Speaker 1: All right. That's cool. That's cool. And so at that point,
[7:38] Speaker 1: I was going to a junior college. Were you playing
[7:40] Speaker 1: football at the junior college? I know. So my thing was,
[7:42] Speaker 1: for me, was if I never got a scholarship, I
[7:45] Speaker 1: wasn't going to try to walk on it. It was done.
[7:47] Speaker 1: It was done. Because football is too brutal. You got
[7:49] Speaker 1: hell weeks. And it was just a thing to where–
[7:53] Speaker 1: you're just not good enough, you know? And so I
[7:56] Speaker 1: was looking for something else to do. So my first
[7:57] Speaker 1: year in junior college, I was always looking at the
[8:00] Speaker 1: occupations manual handbook to where they say, okay, a pharmacist
[8:03] Speaker 1: makes 56,000 a year. I was always looking at, then
[8:07] Speaker 1: a friend of mine in my English class and not
[8:09] Speaker 1: my English class. And yeah, he wasn't my English class.
[8:11] Speaker 1: He said, come take them out in this play. So
[8:13] Speaker 1: I said, okay, I went and checked them out in
[8:16] Speaker 1: this play. And literally I had, this was my second
[8:19] Speaker 1: date with this chick. And, um, And I took her
[8:23] Speaker 1: to the play and I'm like, he was doing his thing.
[8:26] Speaker 1: He was doing his thing on stage. And I'm like,
[8:29] Speaker 1: I'm looking at her. She's like mesmerized. Oh, she was
[8:31] Speaker 1: into it. She was into it. She was into it.
[8:33] Speaker 1: I was like, okay, okay. And then that combined with,
[8:37] Speaker 1: you know, my boy down the street telling me that,
[8:38] Speaker 1: you know, my English teacher said, I said, okay. So
[8:40] Speaker 1: the next semester I, uh, I, I took an acting
[8:44] Speaker 1: class in junior college and, um, and just started pursuing
[8:48] Speaker 1: it from there. The interests of the woman, um, in
[8:51] Speaker 1: said activity. That's always part of it. Always. That's always
[8:57] Speaker 1: part of it. We don't come with a woman. Why
[9:00] Speaker 1: are we doing it? But, you know, it's funny, too,
[9:03] Speaker 1: because the interesting thing, too, because I was, you know,
[9:06] Speaker 1: I talked to my mother the other day and I
[9:07] Speaker 1: started thinking back And so I was, so I'm not
[9:13] Speaker 1: really like of the group of friends that I ever had.
[9:16] Speaker 1: I'm never really the one that's like, cause we grew
[9:18] Speaker 1: up when bagging, you know, you bag, everybody bag. And
[9:21] Speaker 1: I was the one that was trying to instigate. So
[9:23] Speaker 1: everybody stay off me. Right. Cause I can have no,
[9:26] Speaker 1: I never had no jokes. Right. So I'll be, if
[9:28] Speaker 1: you said a joke about him, Oh, so you keep,
[9:31] Speaker 1: keep you going. But I was never like the, the,
[9:34] Speaker 1: the kid with the attention, the kid with the jokes,
[9:36] Speaker 1: I kind of was just like there, you know, I was,
[9:38] Speaker 1: you know, I was, decent football player whatever and then
[9:42] Speaker 1: um but when i was talking to my mother the
[9:44] Speaker 1: other day i realized that she she was telling me
[9:46] Speaker 1: about years when i was in elementary school i did
[9:50] Speaker 1: this i did this thing in church you know i
[9:52] Speaker 1: just got up and recited something i did it at
[9:54] Speaker 1: the last minute i said oh yeah i did do
[9:56] Speaker 1: that and then i thought back and me and me
[9:59] Speaker 1: and a buddy of mine, but in my elementary school, no,
[10:04] Speaker 1: it was junior high school. We did this thing to
[10:06] Speaker 1: where we did a dance to Michael Jackson. So I
[10:09] Speaker 1: was like, okay, I did, I did do that with him.
[10:12] Speaker 1: And then the buddy of mine in high school, we
[10:15] Speaker 1: were in like this talent show to Roxanne Roxanne, you know,
[10:19] Speaker 1: back in the day. So I was like, I was
[10:20] Speaker 1: doing all those- You were finding your way. I was
[10:23] Speaker 1: just doing them, but not- Not knowing it was- Not
[10:26] Speaker 1: knowing that it was something, yeah. But what really triggered
[10:30] Speaker 1: it though, even before I saw my dude in the
[10:33] Speaker 1: play that was in my English class, was when he
[10:35] Speaker 1: told me, because I really didn't know what I was
[10:37] Speaker 1: going to do. You know, I was working at the bank.
[10:39] Speaker 1: I thought I was going to have a career in banking.
[10:41] Speaker 1: You was the educated brother from the bank. I was
[10:43] Speaker 1: working as a bank teller. Well, no, but see, there's
[10:45] Speaker 1: something to that though. So when I was working at
[10:51] Speaker 1: the bank, so it was right at the time to where,
[10:55] Speaker 1: so I have always, thanks to my mother, my mother
[10:58] Speaker 1: was a grinder and she always had multiple jobs, but
[11:01] Speaker 1: I always had a job that was paying more than
[11:03] Speaker 1: minimum wage when I was coming up. I started out
[11:06] Speaker 1: with Sears, whatever minimum wage was, I was $ 2 over.
[11:09] Speaker 1: And then when I started working at the bank, when
[11:14] Speaker 1: the bank was, they were phasing out full-time tellers. So
[11:17] Speaker 1: they were phasing out full-time tellers. So instead of the
[11:19] Speaker 1: wage being, you know, $ 6 an hour, that's like 15. So,
[11:24] Speaker 1: and then back in the day, the banks, when I
[11:27] Speaker 1: was coming up, they would close at three, Monday through
[11:29] Speaker 1: Thursday and six o'clock on Friday and one on Saturday.
[11:32] Speaker 1: So you had, I always had my Friday nights and
[11:34] Speaker 1: my Saturday and my whole weekends. And I was making
[11:36] Speaker 1: more than just a, you know, just a regular minimum
[11:38] Speaker 1: wage job. So yeah, so I was, I was at
[11:40] Speaker 1: the bank. So I just figured that I figured that my,
[11:44] Speaker 1: I thought I was going to be like a bank manager.
[11:46] Speaker 1: I was just going to go up the thing. But
[11:48] Speaker 1: then when, yeah, so that's how it happened. And so
[11:53] Speaker 1: what is your first acting moment? What is your first, like,
[11:56] Speaker 1: once you start getting in this acting class, like what's
[11:59] Speaker 1: the first thing you do? Don't tell us. What do
[12:01] Speaker 1: they do? What do you do? So me and my boy,
[12:03] Speaker 1: so I had a couple of dudes from my acting class.
[12:06] Speaker 1: We say, hey, let's try this. You know, we started
[12:08] Speaker 1: going out trying to get agents and stuff. And so
[12:11] Speaker 1: I got an agent and here's where I knew this
[12:15] Speaker 1: is what I wanted to do. So I got an
[12:18] Speaker 1: agent and he was sending me out on stuff. And
[12:20] Speaker 1: so I went to an audition for A Different World. Now,
[12:25] Speaker 1: in this audition, it was in the cafeteria. The girls
[12:28] Speaker 1: are at the cafeteria line and I'm back there serving food.
[12:32] Speaker 1: And the girls walk by and I was one line.
[12:35] Speaker 1: I was supposed to smile and say hi. So I
[12:38] Speaker 1: did that in the audition. I smiled and said hi.
[12:40] Speaker 1: And so that was it. My agent called me a
[12:44] Speaker 1: couple of days later. He says, they want to put
[12:45] Speaker 1: you on a veil, which they want to check and
[12:47] Speaker 1: see if you're available for those dates. And they said,
[12:49] Speaker 1: if you do the job, it's going to pay $ 1, 500
[12:51] Speaker 1: per week, this, that, and the other. All I heard
[12:54] Speaker 1: was $ 1, 500. I was like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
[12:56] Speaker 1: I said, how much? I said, $ 1, 500 a week? He said,
[12:59] Speaker 1: I said, so he said, yeah, $ 1, 500 per week. You
[13:02] Speaker 1: get this, you get that. And I was like, okay.
[13:03] Speaker 1: So I'm going to start doing the math. So I'm like,
[13:06] Speaker 1: wait a minute, wait a minute. So if I'm saying hi...
[13:10] Speaker 1: For $ 1, 500 a week. Yeah, yeah, yeah. What's Dwayne Wayne doing? Right, right.
[13:19] Speaker 1: What are they getting? So I said, oh, I got
[13:22] Speaker 1: to go after this. And so that was it. That
[13:24] Speaker 1: was really what. That was what. So at first we
[13:27] Speaker 1: were just kind of having fun. Oh, let's try it.
[13:28] Speaker 1: Let's go down to Hollywood. Let's do some stuff. But
[13:31] Speaker 1: when I heard that, I was like, oh, yeah, yeah.
[13:32] Speaker 1: I got to go after this. So did you land that?
[13:35] Speaker 1: They wrote the script. They wrote that rollout. So I
[13:38] Speaker 1: did not get that, but they wrote that rollout. I
[13:40] Speaker 1: didn't get that. And then, um, and then I just started,
[13:43] Speaker 1: I started just auditioning. So I auditioned. And what's the
[13:47] Speaker 1: first one you got? So, so what I did was
[13:51] Speaker 1: back in the day, they used to have a thing
[13:53] Speaker 1: called the drama log. So the drama log every Thursday night,
[13:56] Speaker 1: they would have, well, it would come out on Fridays,
[13:59] Speaker 1: but they would have like auditions for movies, auditions for,
[14:03] Speaker 1: you know, TV shows. Most of it was non-union. So
[14:07] Speaker 1: I started booking those. I was booking student films, but
[14:09] Speaker 1: the first, my first SAG card was the television version
[14:13] Speaker 1: of Nightmare on Elm Street. It was a, it was
[14:15] Speaker 1: a TV show that came on at like, 2 o'clock
[14:18] Speaker 1: at night, and it didn't have a regular cast. Each
[14:24] Speaker 1: episode had a new cast because they would kill the cast. Gotcha.
[14:27] Speaker 1: They killed you. They killed me. No, no, no. Yeah,
[14:30] Speaker 1: they killed me. You're black, so I know they killed you.
[14:32] Speaker 1: That was definitely when they killed me. They killed me.
[14:35] Speaker 1: But the episode was about my father, and he was
[14:38] Speaker 1: investing in me. I was just a young athlete, and
[14:41] Speaker 1: he was investing in me, and because of whatever stuff
[14:43] Speaker 1: he had did, they took me from him, so they
[14:45] Speaker 1: did kill me. Yeah, but that was my sad card.
[14:48] Speaker 1: That was my sad card. So, athlete from the beginning.
[14:51] Speaker 1: Athlete from the... Well, yes, because at that time, now,
[14:57] Speaker 1: there was a... You know, it was kind of like
[14:59] Speaker 1: the gang explosion. Like, a lot of roles were like
[15:02] Speaker 1: gang roles. I would never get those. You know, I auditioned,
[15:05] Speaker 1: I would never get them. And then, you know, there
[15:07] Speaker 1: were a couple things throughout there, but, you know, but
[15:10] Speaker 1: when it came to the athlete, you know, I would
[15:13] Speaker 1: get those parts. What's a role that... you didn't get
[15:16] Speaker 1: that you can remember that people that you might've auditioned
[15:19] Speaker 1: for early on, which could you, could you had it
[15:22] Speaker 1: been rocketing colors? No, I wouldn't be rocking colors. I would,
[15:27] Speaker 1: I do remember I got close on, there was a Friday,
[15:31] Speaker 1: the 13th role brother was in Friday, the 13th. I
[15:35] Speaker 1: got close on that role. I didn't get it. And
[15:38] Speaker 1: then there were a lot of stuff I auditioned for,
[15:40] Speaker 1: but I, you know, that is cause I ended up
[15:42] Speaker 1: going to, I mean, everything, when I was first starting
[15:45] Speaker 1: out as an actor, everything was just so, I was
[15:47] Speaker 1: taking in everything. I remember there were a couple of
[15:49] Speaker 1: times when I did go back to a different world.
[15:52] Speaker 1: And I'll never forget, when I went to this audition,
[15:55] Speaker 1: Martin wasn't Martin yet, but he was there at the audition.
[15:58] Speaker 1: And he was in outside, you know, everyone's got their
[16:00] Speaker 1: papers outside. And of course, he's holding court with all
[16:03] Speaker 1: the commies and everything. So there were roles on a
[16:06] Speaker 1: different world that I didn't get. There were a lot
[16:07] Speaker 1: of roles that I didn't get. Wow, for sure. Mommy,
[16:19] Speaker 1: let's get to the roll. Come on, buddy. We got
[16:22] Speaker 1: to go there. You did get. We got to go there. Oh,
[16:24] Speaker 1: you got the roll of rolls. Boys in the hood.
[16:29] Speaker 1: Boys in the hood. Yeah. Yeah. How? Yeah, you got
[16:34] Speaker 1: to walk us through that process, bro. So, you know what?
[16:38] Speaker 1: For me, I think it was four years before you
[16:40] Speaker 1: and I talked about that. So, what happened was this. So,
[16:45] Speaker 1: I had been going... So, I started... So... when I
[16:48] Speaker 1: went to that acting class at junior college, it was
[16:50] Speaker 1: Long Beach city junior college. So I said, okay, I'm
[16:53] Speaker 1: getting some pretty good notices here. So let me go,
[16:55] Speaker 1: let me go into Holly closer into Hollywood and see if,
[16:59] Speaker 1: you know, see if I, you know, if they think
[17:01] Speaker 1: I got it, Marla Gibbs, who was the, who was
[17:05] Speaker 1: on two, two, seven and, and the Jefferson's back in
[17:08] Speaker 1: the day, she had an acting class that was in
[17:11] Speaker 1: Leimert park, right, right in the hood. And so, but,
[17:15] Speaker 1: Her thing for the acting class was she had everybody,
[17:18] Speaker 1: everybody from TV shows actually teaching the acting class. So
[17:21] Speaker 1: I said, you know what? Yes. I said, you know,
[17:22] Speaker 1: I got to get in that class. These are people
[17:24] Speaker 1: who are working in the industry. I got to get
[17:26] Speaker 1: in front of them so they can give me direction
[17:28] Speaker 1: of what I need to do. So I started going
[17:31] Speaker 1: to I started. It was called Crossroads. I was going
[17:32] Speaker 1: to Crossroads in Leimert Park. And then I then I
[17:35] Speaker 1: ventured even more into Hollywood. So flip to I get
[17:38] Speaker 1: an audition for a movie. And Jackie Brown was the
[17:42] Speaker 1: cast director. I go in there, I meet with Jackie Brown.
[17:45] Speaker 1: I get the, I get the call back and then
[17:47] Speaker 1: they call me back to go and meet the director.
[17:50] Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, cool. I got called back before. So, okay, cool.
[17:52] Speaker 1: I got to be ready for this call back. So
[17:54] Speaker 1: I go in and it's, the director is my age,
[17:58] Speaker 1: you know, it's not like this old dude with glasses
[18:00] Speaker 1: on just sitting like this. It's like, Hey man, what's up?
[18:03] Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, what's up? You know, game boy
[18:04] Speaker 1: with everything. Um, and so, you know, I do the
[18:07] Speaker 1: audition and, um, with John Singleton, God rest his soul,
[18:12] Speaker 1: late great John Singleton. And at the end of the audition,
[18:16] Speaker 1: he grabs my hand, says, thanks for coming in. He
[18:19] Speaker 1: holds it just a little bit longer. I was like, okay, oh, cool. Okay, cool.
[18:23] Speaker 1: So I said, okay, I think he liked me. And then,
[18:26] Speaker 1: so then my agent calls and said, hey, they want
[18:30] Speaker 1: you to do a screen test. I was like, oh, okay. Now,
[18:33] Speaker 1: I hadn't done a screen test before. I'm like, okay,
[18:35] Speaker 1: all right. I'm getting closer. I'm getting closer. So a
[18:37] Speaker 1: screen test, big high. So I'm thinking I'm going to,
[18:40] Speaker 1: you know, and at this time it's just a movie.
[18:42] Speaker 1: I don't know it's Columbia. I don't recall. But I
[18:45] Speaker 1: just know it's a Hollywood screen test. And so I'm thinking,
[18:48] Speaker 1: so where am I going? Am I going to, you know,
[18:50] Speaker 1: Warner Brothers? I think you're going to a lot. I
[18:51] Speaker 1: think I'm going to a lot. Yeah. And he says, yeah,
[18:55] Speaker 1: the screen test is at this place, Crossroads Studio in,
[18:59] Speaker 1: you know, Leimert Park. And that's where I had already studied.
[19:03] Speaker 1: But at first I was like, Crossroads? Is this a
[19:07] Speaker 1: real movie? I mean, why are we going to Crossroads
[19:10] Speaker 1: for a screen test? But John, what I didn't know
[19:13] Speaker 1: at the time, John wanted to keep everything in South Central.
[19:17] Speaker 1: And so I went and it was like home because
[19:19] Speaker 1: I had already been working out there at Crossroads. Yeah.
[19:24] Speaker 1: And then I did a screen test and got the part.
[19:26] Speaker 1: Who are you screening? Who are you testing with? Was
[19:28] Speaker 1: it somebody from the movie or just? No, no, it was.
[19:32] Speaker 1: So there was a bunch of us around. I don't
[19:34] Speaker 1: think I ever I don't recall ever testing with Cuba
[19:37] Speaker 1: because in the first. So the first audition for it,
[19:40] Speaker 1: we all all the all the male leads read for
[19:43] Speaker 1: Cuba's part. And then when I came back, they had me,
[19:47] Speaker 1: as Ricky, but I don't recall. I think I just
[19:49] Speaker 1: went on there and I just went in there and
[19:51] Speaker 1: went on tape. I don't recall screen testing with anybody
[19:54] Speaker 1: other than the cast director. I have vivid memories of
[19:57] Speaker 1: all of that. I learned, I learned a lot, even
[19:59] Speaker 1: just from, I learned a lot from people and about
[20:02] Speaker 1: people being around the, uh, going to auditions and hearing
[20:06] Speaker 1: people talk and everything, but I learned a lot. Um,
[20:09] Speaker 1: but yeah, so I don't, I don't think it was
[20:10] Speaker 1: with you. I think it was just with John at
[20:12] Speaker 1: that point too. How old are you at this? When you,
[20:14] Speaker 1: when you both boys in the hood? I think I'm 18.
[20:15] Speaker 1: I think I'm 18. 18, 19. I think I'm 19.
[20:17] Speaker 1: I graduated at seven. I graduated high school at 17.
[20:18] Speaker 1: And then one, two. Yeah. I'm about, 1920, I think
[20:27] Speaker 1: it was 1920, yeah. Yeah. Wow. Give me the feeling
[20:30] Speaker 1: when you get the call from your agent and he says,
[20:36] Speaker 1: or she says, man, he says, you booked, boys and girls.
[20:42] Speaker 1: So at that time, I was honestly happy to book anything. Mm-hmm.
[20:48] Speaker 1: I'm just glad to have a job. Yeah. You know,
[20:50] Speaker 1: I'm in the union, I'm an actor, and I can
[20:52] Speaker 1: say I'm working as an actor. You got a speaking part.
[20:53] Speaker 1: You got a speaking part. You're going to get a
[20:56] Speaker 1: little bit of money. But, so when they ran down
[21:00] Speaker 1: the list of who was in the movie, so back then,
[21:02] Speaker 1: when I did Boys in the Hood, movies were huge.
[21:06] Speaker 1: Movies had huge movie stars. You had Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson,
[21:12] Speaker 1: and all the big movies that people were going to
[21:14] Speaker 1: the theater to see had huge movie stars. So... I'm saying, okay. So,
[21:18] Speaker 1: wait a minute. Okay. So, yeah, some people know Ice Cube. Okay.
[21:24] Speaker 1: But this other dude that lead, this Cuba dude, nobody
[21:26] Speaker 1: know him. I mean, Cuba had holding deals, but the
[21:28] Speaker 1: world didn't know Cuba at the time. Right. And then
[21:32] Speaker 1: Amelie in the movie. And then, yeah, I mean, this
[21:36] Speaker 1: guy Fishburne was in a movie when he was a
[21:38] Speaker 1: young kid. And then he was in Pee Wee's Playhouse. So,
[21:41] Speaker 1: I'm literally thinking it's like, look, I'm just glad I
[21:45] Speaker 1: have a movie. I don't know if anybody's going to
[21:47] Speaker 1: see this. but I'm just glad to be in the movie.
[21:51] Speaker 1: And then no one knew who Nia was. No one
[21:53] Speaker 1: knew who Angela was. No one who knew Regina was.
[21:56] Speaker 1: It was just one of those things to where it's
[21:58] Speaker 1: like all these people were. So I'm just glad to
[22:00] Speaker 1: be working and being in the movie. Breaking new stars. Yeah,
[22:02] Speaker 1: he broke new stars, but I didn't realize that at
[22:03] Speaker 1: that time because in addition to that, there was an 18-year-old, 19-year-old,
[22:07] Speaker 1: 20-year-old kid that's directing the movie. That's directing the movie
[22:11] Speaker 1: that I went to the screen test at Crossroads in
[22:14] Speaker 1: Leimert Park. So it was like... It was just one
[22:16] Speaker 1: of those things where I wasn't thinking of it at
[22:18] Speaker 1: the time. But what, for me, I was taking that
[22:21] Speaker 1: as a learning experience as well. So when I was
[22:23] Speaker 1: on set, it was a situation where I was just
[22:27] Speaker 1: trying to learn and see how things are done. And
[22:30] Speaker 1: I'll never forget, so we were in a double banger.
[22:31] Speaker 1: So a double banger is, there's the trailers that have
[22:35] Speaker 1: two rooms on them. You got double bangers, you got singles,
[22:37] Speaker 1: you got triple bangers, all that. But a honey wagons.
[22:40] Speaker 1: But Cuba's room was right next to mine. And it
[22:44] Speaker 1: was to the point to where, because Cuba had, he
[22:47] Speaker 1: had done TV shows. He had done MacGyver and stuff
[22:49] Speaker 1: like that. He was on a holding deal at the studio.
[22:51] Speaker 1: So he was way far ahead of where I was.
[22:54] Speaker 1: And I was always asking him questions. I was always
[22:57] Speaker 1: asking him questions. And when you're in a double banger,
[22:59] Speaker 1: you could hear like, If I'm in my room, I
[23:02] Speaker 1: can hear if your door opens and you're coming out.
[23:04] Speaker 1: So every time Q was door open, I'd come out.
[23:06] Speaker 1: I was just happy to be there. What's up, man?
[23:10] Speaker 1: Where you at? Oh, you craft stuff? I'm going there, too. Right?
[23:13] Speaker 1: And I'll never forget one time. One time, I was
[23:20] Speaker 1: in my trailer. Q was door open. I came out.
[23:23] Speaker 1: He came, he went back. He's like, I can't deal
[23:27] Speaker 1: with this cat today. But it was just one of
[23:30] Speaker 1: those things to me where I was just, I was
[23:31] Speaker 1: just so just happy to be there. Just so just,
[23:34] Speaker 1: because I've done a lot of independent movies and movies
[23:35] Speaker 1: that will never see the light of day. And I
[23:37] Speaker 1: was just happy to be in a movie. And y'all
[23:38] Speaker 1: were in the middle of the hood. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
[23:40] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah. We actually shot in LA, South Central. Yeah,
[23:43] Speaker 1: for real. How was that as far as like, right,
[23:46] Speaker 1: because we all come from wherever we come from and
[23:49] Speaker 1: it changes. It's insane. Like the community changes when things
[23:55] Speaker 1: are going on from a video shoot to a movie set.
[23:58] Speaker 1: So I know there were people hanging around. There were
[24:01] Speaker 1: people just not realizing that they're in the way, but
[24:04] Speaker 1: being in the way. Yeah. So that did happen. So
[24:08] Speaker 1: we had people on set and John was from the area.
[24:13] Speaker 1: So he had people there on set to help us.
[24:16] Speaker 1: But it really was after, you got to remember, nobody
[24:20] Speaker 1: knew us. So after it's like, oh, y'all doing a movie?
[24:24] Speaker 1: And I could be standing right there. Who, you know, oh,
[24:26] Speaker 1: this dude's in a movie? Oh, okay. All right, I'm out.
[24:28] Speaker 1: They go and do something else because you're not seeing
[24:30] Speaker 1: any stars. You're seeing somebody on a set, you know.
[24:33] Speaker 1: But they did want to see Ice Cube, though. You know,
[24:37] Speaker 1: Ice Cube was still, he was Ice Cube at the
[24:39] Speaker 1: time with N.W.A. Yeah. For sure. Yeah. At any point
[24:42] Speaker 1: while you're shooting this movie, does it click for you
[24:46] Speaker 1: at any point that you're doing something special? Mm-hmm. Or
[24:52] Speaker 1: you're just you're just in it while I'm shooting. Yes.
[24:56] Speaker 1: Not one time. Not not one single time. Because, again,
[25:03] Speaker 1: no one was in the movie that, you know, there
[25:07] Speaker 1: were huge. I'm telling you, there's when movies were huge
[25:10] Speaker 1: at the time, you know, and they had huge stars
[25:13] Speaker 1: and none of us were huge at the time. And
[25:16] Speaker 1: then it was. And to me, it was just like,
[25:18] Speaker 1: I'm learning. Okay. And what, what can I get next?
[25:20] Speaker 1: You know, what's the next thing I'm gonna do after that?
[25:23] Speaker 1: So I was always, I've always been trying to say,
[25:24] Speaker 1: what can I get after this? Let me learn here
[25:26] Speaker 1: and see what the next thing is going to the next.
[25:28] Speaker 1: So at no point did I think the, did I
[25:32] Speaker 1: think the movie was going to be big, you know,
[25:34] Speaker 1: and matter of fact, I never forget my agent called
[25:38] Speaker 1: me at the time. He goes, yeah, that, that the
[25:40] Speaker 1: movie that you did, you know, it's going to be
[25:42] Speaker 1: in a, in a, in a, in a cam film festival,
[25:44] Speaker 1: a calm film festival. I was like, I said, where
[25:46] Speaker 1: is that? He said, oh, it's in France. I said,
[25:49] Speaker 1: it's in France. I said, damn, they gonna short here though, right?
[25:56] Speaker 1: Not even knowing that that's a huge deal. Yeah, they
[25:59] Speaker 1: got to short here because I got to- They gonna
[26:01] Speaker 1: play that match down at the theater, right? At that time,
[26:06] Speaker 1: they don't even know what France is. Exactly. France, right
[26:09] Speaker 1: here on the map. I'm telling you, man. What they
[26:11] Speaker 1: doing over there? Exactly. I'm not even knowing. So I'm like, dang, yeah.
[26:16] Speaker 1: So I was like, yeah, yeah, you guys can have
[26:18] Speaker 1: it here, but- You know, so, oh, okay. Cool. So
[26:20] Speaker 1: I didn't even know. Yeah. I gotta ask you a question, though.
[26:24] Speaker 1: Because if I don't, my whole neighborhood is going to
[26:26] Speaker 1: be mad at me. Why didn't you zigzag? He made
[26:31] Speaker 1: a post about that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. People ask me
[26:32] Speaker 1: that all the time. The hood is going to be
[26:34] Speaker 1: mad at me, man. I have to ask. He was fast. Yeah,
[26:38] Speaker 1: I was fast. Listen, man. I was doing what they
[26:42] Speaker 1: told me. And now, listen, trust me. I remember those scenes.
[26:47] Speaker 1: You know, I remember those scenes for different reasons. But,
[26:49] Speaker 1: I mean, I had a really good time, you know,
[26:51] Speaker 1: with those scenes. Because, you know, it was fun. Got
[26:54] Speaker 1: the run. But that particular scene was nerve-wracking because... So
[26:58] Speaker 1: they put these squibs on you, which are basically mini
[27:01] Speaker 1: explosives to make it seem like you got shot. Okay.
[27:03] Speaker 1: So again, my first movie. So I had a squib
[27:06] Speaker 1: here and I had a squib here. Yeah. So the
[27:11] Speaker 1: stunt guy and explosive guy, you go, okay, come on.
[27:13] Speaker 1: So here's what you're going to do. So we're going
[27:15] Speaker 1: to put this here and then, you know, we're going
[27:16] Speaker 1: to hit this button over here and it's going to explode.
[27:18] Speaker 1: It's going to pop out. And then we're going to
[27:20] Speaker 1: put one, then one's here because I got the stuff on.
[27:22] Speaker 1: He said, now make sure. make sure you don't hold
[27:26] Speaker 1: your head down because it's going to explode. You got
[27:28] Speaker 1: to keep your head up. And so I'm like, okay.
[27:30] Speaker 1: All right. All right. So, so I remember trying to
[27:32] Speaker 1: focus on it. You got cameras going. I was like, Oh,
[27:35] Speaker 1: I cannot mess this up. And I can't look down
[27:37] Speaker 1: while I'm running because I'm having this. So it was
[27:40] Speaker 1: a lot of things like that going on. And then, um,
[27:43] Speaker 1: I think we did that like two or three times.
[27:45] Speaker 1: And then the next, it was like, it was literally,
[27:49] Speaker 1: it was two, like two days later. wearing syrup and
[27:56] Speaker 1: food coloring all over my clothes, which was the most
[27:59] Speaker 1: uncomfortable thing in the world. But, you know, it was
[28:02] Speaker 1: just still fun to be on a movie set. Yeah. Bro, like,
[28:07] Speaker 1: that movie is etched in my childhood. You know what
[28:11] Speaker 1: I mean? Because we all grew up with friends who
[28:17] Speaker 1: maybe died too early. Yeah. You know what I mean?
[28:19] Speaker 1: For whatever reason. I think the tough part for me
[28:22] Speaker 1: was that your character didn't survive, right? Because I think
[28:28] Speaker 1: it was very much realistic, but it was a reminder
[28:35] Speaker 1: of how hard it is to get out. And I
[28:38] Speaker 1: think some of us were looking for the fairy tale
[28:43] Speaker 1: story of, oh, he becomes a star athlete or he
[28:46] Speaker 1: goes to college. Like, I mean, I guess just the
[28:51] Speaker 1: wild part of me was like, all right, well, I
[28:53] Speaker 1: guess he got his boy some cheeks. you know what
[28:56] Speaker 1: I mean like he definitely used you he definitely used
[28:59] Speaker 1: you dying to get some cheeks I don't think he
[29:01] Speaker 1: was gonna get no cheeks no other way that and
[29:03] Speaker 1: the punching she was like man I might.
[29:06] Speaker 2: As well he going through it you know what I
[29:10] Speaker 2: mean so but and it was you know I think
[29:13] Speaker 2: looking back on I think as a kid me watching
[29:15] Speaker 2: it I was like it was cool to see the homie,
[29:18] Speaker 2: you know, that worked at the mall, you know, go
[29:20] Speaker 2: off to college or whatever he was supposed to do.
[29:22] Speaker 1: But like, I really wanted to see the star athlete
[29:26] Speaker 1: get to the bag and really, you know what I'm saying?
[29:29] Speaker 1: Like maybe change the community a little bit, but that
[29:33] Speaker 1: was the tough part. That was bittersweet for me. It
[29:37] Speaker 1: was like, damn man. Like, yeah, you know, some people
[29:40] Speaker 1: do make it out, but you really hope that that
[29:43] Speaker 1: person with that talent get out. Get out. Right. You
[29:46] Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? It's just, you know, my own
[29:49] Speaker 1: hood fairy tale. Yeah. Right. You know? Right, right, right, right.
[29:52] Speaker 1: It burst a hell of a bubble for sure. Man, bro.
[29:55] Speaker 1: It was true. I think that was, I think that
[29:57] Speaker 1: was like, from a movie standpoint, like that was the
[30:00] Speaker 1: first real piece of trauma. Yeah. No, that couch scene.
[30:03] Speaker 1: That couch scene, bro. Yeah. Oh, man. I'm talking like,
[30:10] Speaker 1: we were in the theater sick as kids. Sick. I
[30:17] Speaker 1: couldn't audit that. That played in my mind often because
[30:21] Speaker 1: it's just where we're from, bro. And One or two
[30:27] Speaker 1: bad decisions that probably aren't even yours. Mm-hmm. Yep. Yeah.
[30:31] Speaker 1: Can change the outcome. Yeah. For everybody. Yeah. Everybody's life.
[30:36] Speaker 1: And it's funny that you mentioned that too, because so
[30:40] Speaker 1: after I did, so I did my pretty nightmares. I
[30:42] Speaker 1: told you it came on at like two o'clock in
[30:44] Speaker 1: the morning. One time I was out, I got recognized.
[30:46] Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, someone recognized me. But after that,
[30:49] Speaker 1: of course, it was when boys and hood came out
[30:52] Speaker 1: and I was in this gym and And I was
[30:55] Speaker 1: in the gym in Long Beach. And, you know, I
[30:59] Speaker 1: was working out with one of my boys. But it
[31:00] Speaker 1: was one of these gyms. At the time, you know,
[31:02] Speaker 1: people keep to yourself, you know, in the gym. And
[31:04] Speaker 1: then one of the brothers in the gym came up.
[31:08] Speaker 1: We've never talked to nobody. Very, you know, just, you know,
[31:11] Speaker 1: he's a strong brother, built brother, whatever. And he came
[31:15] Speaker 1: up to me. He's like, yeah, you was in that movie.
[31:19] Speaker 1: I saw that movie. He said, yeah, man, I cried
[31:22] Speaker 1: in that movie. He said, I cried. And I was like, wow.
[31:24] Speaker 1: Because he was one of these cats that was very
[31:26] Speaker 1: stoic all the time in the gym, just getting it.
[31:28] Speaker 1: I was like, wow. So I was thinking, like, this
[31:30] Speaker 1: is kind of powerful. And then, you know, all the
[31:32] Speaker 1: other people started telling me about it. So I was like, yeah,
[31:34] Speaker 1: so to that point, it touched a lot of people.
[31:36] Speaker 1: A lot of people. Absolutely, bro. Good work, brother. Thank you, man.
[31:39] Speaker 1: All you guys, man. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cube was... incredible
[31:43] Speaker 1: Cuba should Cuba's great Cuba should I think Cuba should
[31:46] Speaker 1: have got nominated me personally but yeah it was a
[31:48] Speaker 1: good movie yeah for sure for sure no he did
[31:50] Speaker 1: a this is when you you know you always and
[31:54] Speaker 1: I think as black people too like we always kind
[31:56] Speaker 1: of like audit things like oh well this wasn't this
[31:58] Speaker 1: and that I can't find that in Boys in the
[32:00] Speaker 1: Hood I couldn't personally I couldn't find anybody's character I
[32:04] Speaker 1: was like well why they cast such and such you
[32:07] Speaker 1: know what I mean that movie just felt like everybody
[32:11] Speaker 1: was cast in the right parts you know what i
[32:14] Speaker 1: mean and the movie was just it was amazing bro
[32:16] Speaker 1: thank you man and to that point i want to
[32:18] Speaker 1: just give a shout out to to john i true
[32:21] Speaker 1: john i think is truly just a genius when it
[32:24] Speaker 1: comes to that because for sure you know even in
[32:27] Speaker 1: that film because even while we were filming it was
[32:29] Speaker 1: like he like had his game boy or whatever it
[32:31] Speaker 1: was at that time maybe it was a game boy
[32:32] Speaker 1: or whatever the handheld game and he'd be like okay
[32:36] Speaker 1: action and you watch the scene. Okay, do that. And
[32:38] Speaker 1: while it's set up, he's going right back to his
[32:39] Speaker 1: game boy. But he knew in the casting process who
[32:46] Speaker 1: he was hiring, who he was putting together. because, you know,
[32:50] Speaker 1: it's just amazing for all, I mean, Nia, Cube, Fish, Angela, Regina,
[32:56] Speaker 1: all of us still be working today. Everybody became something serious.
[33:00] Speaker 1: Ice Cube. Ice Cube. Everybody became something serious. Yep, yep, yep.
[33:05] Speaker 1: So he knew, he had a vision. He had a
[33:08] Speaker 1: vision for that. For real. For sure. You know, the
[33:11] Speaker 1: great thing, man, and I think that obviously as I
[33:15] Speaker 1: got older and then you actually did become the star
[33:19] Speaker 1: football player. Yes, that's true. You know what I mean?
[33:23] Speaker 1: That's true, that's true. Connecting your movies has been like, huh.
[33:28] Speaker 1: That's true. That's a great, that's a great segue. You
[33:32] Speaker 1: know what I mean? That's really good. You know. I
[33:36] Speaker 1: like that. That's good. Yeah. It was cool to see, like,
[33:41] Speaker 1: and I'm sure as creatives and the writers and directors,
[33:45] Speaker 1: I'm sure when they were writing these movies later on,
[33:48] Speaker 1: they were like, oh, Yeah. That's how to put these
[33:51] Speaker 1: pieces together. Yeah. You know what I mean? And with
[33:54] Speaker 1: some of the same castmates. Yeah. Yeah. You know what
[33:57] Speaker 1: I mean? Like, yeah. Knee along. Knee along. Yeah. And
[33:59] Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like it's, it's, it just
[34:01] Speaker 1: started to connect, but bro, another classic. The best man, bro. Classic. Yeah. Yeah.
[34:08] Speaker 1: The best man we got to see, Ricky, he changed
[34:11] Speaker 1: his name to Lance. This is when I had my
[34:13] Speaker 1: first beef with him though. Over best man? I didn't
[34:16] Speaker 1: know him yet. Why, you auditioned with a best man?
[34:17] Speaker 1: But I had a beef with her. Did you audition? No,
[34:19] Speaker 1: I didn't audition. Okay. Okay, I didn't audition. I got
[34:21] Speaker 1: to know what the beef is then. But I'm sitting
[34:23] Speaker 1: in the movie with, you know, with a particular young lady. Oh, okay. Okay,
[34:27] Speaker 1: what do you think? And, you know, we're watching a movie,
[34:28] Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying? Best man, you know what
[34:30] Speaker 1: I'm saying? Go see the good movie, you know what
[34:31] Speaker 1: I'm saying? Date night, you know what I'm saying? I'm
[34:33] Speaker 1: going to probably get something after. It's a date night movie.
[34:35] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? Yeah, yeah.
[34:37] Speaker 1: And so there's the scene in the club bar or whatever,
[34:42] Speaker 1: and Ann comes walking around. Lance Sullivan. Lance Sullivan. And
[34:50] Speaker 1: all I hear is When I say every woman in
[34:53] Speaker 1: this theater losing their mind. Yeah. And the girl next
[34:58] Speaker 1: to me, she was trying to hold it in. Yeah.
[35:01] Speaker 1: But it slipped out. I said, mmm. I feel like
[35:05] Speaker 1: he had one of these type of outfits on, too. No,
[35:07] Speaker 1: he had them in the trench. In the trench, yeah,
[35:09] Speaker 1: in the trench. I don't know how many. He was
[35:12] Speaker 1: waved up. It's part of the same closet, though. It's
[35:15] Speaker 1: part of the same closet. I looked at her and said,
[35:17] Speaker 1: you all right? You need something? Can he help you
[35:22] Speaker 1: with something? That's hilarious. I play football. That was one
[35:25] Speaker 1: of those moments where as a celebrity or as a star,
[35:28] Speaker 1: you know what I mean, in whatever space you're in,
[35:42] Speaker 1: You want that kind of walk-in love. Yeah. Whether you
[35:46] Speaker 1: walking in the club, you know what I'm saying? Whether
[35:49] Speaker 1: you walking on stage, wherever. That's the kind of love
[35:56] Speaker 1: every man dreams about. You just walked in and it
[36:01] Speaker 1: went crazy? Yeah. What? That's another role that almost didn't
[36:06] Speaker 1: happen to, though. Yeah. So Malcolm didn't write me for
[36:10] Speaker 1: that part. I had to audition for that part. And
[36:14] Speaker 1: it's funny how things happen. So people think I worked
[36:18] Speaker 1: all the time, but what happened was after I did
[36:21] Speaker 1: Boys in the Hood, I did a TV show. Now
[36:23] Speaker 1: back then, I did a sitcom, no less. So back then,
[36:27] Speaker 1: you either did movies or TV shows, right? There was
[36:29] Speaker 1: no going back and forth, but I had an agent
[36:32] Speaker 1: at the time and me not knowing anybody in the industry.
[36:35] Speaker 1: I had an agent at the time. I was like,
[36:36] Speaker 1: he just wanted to get me to get me working,
[36:38] Speaker 1: get me working. So he put me into, uh, to
[36:40] Speaker 1: the sitcom. Then it got canceled. And then there was
[36:42] Speaker 1: a drop here. So I said, man, I said, and
[36:45] Speaker 1: I was going to auditions. I wasn't really booking. And
[36:47] Speaker 1: so I said, uh, I gotta get better. So I
[36:49] Speaker 1: went to an acting class and I was working on
[36:50] Speaker 1: some technique in the acting class, but So came time
[36:54] Speaker 1: to audition for the best man, audition for the best man,
[36:58] Speaker 1: got a call back. I think I got, I think
[37:01] Speaker 1: I had to come back twice and then I got
[37:03] Speaker 1: the job. But what I found out later, and we
[37:06] Speaker 1: talk about this all the time. So it was me
[37:10] Speaker 1: getting that role was between me and another actor. This
[37:13] Speaker 1: actor was much taller than I was. And Malcolm wanted
[37:20] Speaker 1: that role to be physically imposing. And Malcolm Lee, the director,
[37:25] Speaker 1: of course. And so I hadn't heard from him in
[37:28] Speaker 1: a while. What I later found out was he was
[37:32] Speaker 1: debating between me and this other actor and his wife, Camille.
[37:37] Speaker 1: Thank you, Camille, for giving me the role. His wife said, Malcolm,
[37:39] Speaker 1: you better go ahead and cast Morris. And then the
[37:43] Speaker 1: rest is history. So I thank Camille for that. Great. Wow. Yeah.
[37:48] Speaker 1: Incredible movie, bro. Incredible movie. And another movie that took
[37:53] Speaker 1: people to another level. Oh, man. A million percent. You
[37:55] Speaker 1: know what I mean? Cast very well. Yeah. Cast very well.
[38:00] Speaker 1: And again, so from Boys in the Hood, Cuba went
[38:04] Speaker 1: on to win an Oscar. Of course, Angeline Fish did too.
[38:07] Speaker 1: But then from The Best Man, Terrence went on to
[38:10] Speaker 1: get nominated for an Oscar and All of us are
[38:12] Speaker 1: still working to this day, so it was a great
[38:15] Speaker 1: eye by Malcolm Lee who just put all the pieces together.
[38:18] Speaker 1: You've been part of pieces that, like, when they come on,
[38:21] Speaker 1: you don't turn away from them. Oh, yeah. Thank you.
[38:24] Speaker 1: No more. To this day. Thank you. I'm unfortunate. Do
[38:27] Speaker 1: you feel like doing The Best Man, though, is what
[38:29] Speaker 1: kind of took you into this space of, for lack
[38:31] Speaker 1: of a better term, of heartthrob? What it did was...
[38:34] Speaker 1: Was that the movie that, now, you being outside, changed? That, so... Yes.
[38:43] Speaker 1: So when I did Boys in the Hood, people would
[38:46] Speaker 1: recognize me and notice me and come up to me.
[38:49] Speaker 1: But yeah. So what what the best man did, this
[38:52] Speaker 1: was the first time I had experience. I was doing
[38:54] Speaker 1: I did think I was in Baltimore. I was in
[38:57] Speaker 1: Baltimore doing some Ray Lewis at the time. And the
[39:01] Speaker 1: best man was out and I went to a mall
[39:05] Speaker 1: and I'm just, you know, normally. Yeah. And it was
[39:07] Speaker 1: and it was crazy. That was the first time that
[39:09] Speaker 1: and then I had I've had I had other. actresses
[39:12] Speaker 1: who were slightly older would come and say, oh, you know,
[39:15] Speaker 1: you can be my leading man. So that was the role.
[39:19] Speaker 1: So that was that was the role that I think
[39:23] Speaker 1: people people took me. They started not thinking of me
[39:27] Speaker 1: as Ricky, but thinking of me as a leading. man. Yeah.
[39:30] Speaker 1: For sure. The mall Tess. Listen, that is what happens
[39:34] Speaker 1: in music. Oh, really? What? You seen your artist in
[39:39] Speaker 1: the mall. You went to the mall not knowing. Yeah.
[39:42] Speaker 1: I went to the mall. Looking for it. Looking for it.
[39:46] Speaker 1: Let me see. Let me see what it do. Check
[39:49] Speaker 1: my temperature. Check my temperature. I learned that from Genuine. Yeah,
[39:53] Speaker 1: I'm hot. Oh, is that right? He was the mall man. Oh, really? What?
[39:58] Speaker 1: Every time he went to the mall, I went. Shit.
[40:01] Speaker 1: really i carried all the footlocker bags and got fake
[40:05] Speaker 1: jewelry at the kiosk that's hilarious yeah that's um it's
[40:15] Speaker 1: so it's so many things brothers uh two can play
[40:19] Speaker 1: at that game yeah yeah yeah um The brothers. Brothers
[40:24] Speaker 1: was crazy. The brothers. That was a fun one. That
[40:27] Speaker 1: was a fun one. Yeah. Yeah. Worked with me. Classics, bro.
[40:41] Speaker 1: What do you attribute, right, your longevity to? So it's
[40:47] Speaker 1: a couple things. I won't say it's just one thing.
[40:49] Speaker 1: So I think that... Okay, part of it is that
[40:57] Speaker 1: when you go from Ricky and you have Lance, in
[41:02] Speaker 1: those powerful movies, I was the character in the movie
[41:08] Speaker 1: that everyone was rooting for. Like you said, you wanted
[41:11] Speaker 1: Ricky to see. And movies are powerful. You go in
[41:14] Speaker 1: there with that dark screen and no distraction from your
[41:17] Speaker 1: phone and all you can see. So people root for me.
[41:20] Speaker 1: They were rooting for, you know, they're rooting for Lance
[41:23] Speaker 1: and the best man. Oh, is he going to get
[41:24] Speaker 1: through the wedding? And, you know, and they can relate.
[41:27] Speaker 1: So I think I've had these characters that people really
[41:29] Speaker 1: kind of root for. But in addition to that is
[41:35] Speaker 1: I always still try to get better, try to get
[41:37] Speaker 1: better every time out, still see acting coaches and things
[41:40] Speaker 1: of that nature. And then I think first and foremost
[41:44] Speaker 1: for me, which I think has taken me further than anything,
[41:47] Speaker 1: is I've always treated people with respect, regardless of what
[41:51] Speaker 1: level that they are. You could be a PA on
[41:57] Speaker 1: a movie set or a TV show or the head
[42:00] Speaker 1: of the studio. I'm cool and cordial with everybody. And
[42:03] Speaker 1: I think that that has taken me a long way.
[42:06] Speaker 1: And it's not a calculated thing. It's just who I am.
[42:08] Speaker 1: But that has gone... that's gone. Cause I've looked back
[42:14] Speaker 1: on things to where it's different. Even when I was
[42:16] Speaker 1: at these, you know, different agencies and I was still
[42:19] Speaker 1: cool with, you know, the, uh, the desk guy at
[42:21] Speaker 1: the agency and we, you know, friends. And then when
[42:24] Speaker 1: he comes up, he's, you know, Hey, Mo, come over here.
[42:26] Speaker 1: We want to take care of you and help me
[42:28] Speaker 1: get jobs. And even, uh, you know, PAs, you know,
[42:31] Speaker 1: they go from being a PA to a huge writer
[42:34] Speaker 1: or showrunner. Hey, Mo, can you, so that, that, that's
[42:38] Speaker 1: carried me a long way because, uh, Quite frankly, a
[42:42] Speaker 1: lot of people in this industry, in our industry, they
[42:46] Speaker 1: don't have respect. They just really get on sets and
[42:51] Speaker 1: they really just focus on themselves. I don't blame anybody
[42:57] Speaker 1: for the way that they act. Plus, you get on
[42:59] Speaker 1: a movie set or a TV show and they're catering
[43:02] Speaker 1: you for everything. Sometimes people just You know, people just
[43:07] Speaker 1: take it differently. You still got to have some humility. Yeah.
[43:10] Speaker 1: And I've seen it with you with my own eyes, right?
[43:13] Speaker 1: Like I was, before we started filming, I was like, man,
[43:16] Speaker 1: the last time I saw you, you shut my sister's way.
[43:18] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I'm like, all right, meet
[43:22] Speaker 1: and greet. But no, but how, how accommodating you were
[43:28] Speaker 1: to everyone that was there and all of my sister's
[43:31] Speaker 1: friends and my, you know, my family members who, you know,
[43:35] Speaker 1: they're like, oh, this is, that's more chestnut wedding or not.
[43:39] Speaker 1: I need my picture. You know what I'm saying? But
[43:41] Speaker 1: just how you handled it. And I just had, it
[43:45] Speaker 1: made me have even more respect for you. You know
[43:47] Speaker 1: what I mean? Because I've seen people in those same
[43:50] Speaker 1: situations get funny style. Yeah. Yeah. And to that point
[43:54] Speaker 1: for me, you know, when it, when it comes to
[43:57] Speaker 1: people have supported me throughout all these years. Yeah. Um,
[44:02] Speaker 1: I always make that a priority for them because trust me,
[44:07] Speaker 1: there have been numerous times, numerous times where, you know,
[44:12] Speaker 1: I'm taking a red eye, you know, I get in
[44:14] Speaker 1: on a red eye. All you want to just get
[44:15] Speaker 1: to the hotel and go to sleep and be, Hey,
[44:17] Speaker 1: can I get a picture? Hey, and I'll do it anyway.
[44:20] Speaker 1: And because that's the only chance they may get to
[44:25] Speaker 1: meet someone that they've been supporting for all these years.
[44:29] Speaker 1: They've been watching this movie, that TV show, time and
[44:32] Speaker 1: time again. And truly, I mean, and I know this
[44:37] Speaker 1: may be cliche, but without the fans, we ain't nothing.
[44:42] Speaker 1: We are absolutely nothing. So for me... I make it,
[44:46] Speaker 1: I make a priority to, you know, okay, I'll do
[44:49] Speaker 1: the picture. Even though a lot of times I don't,
[44:51] Speaker 1: not a lot of times, but there are moments where
[44:53] Speaker 1: it's really hard for me to do it, but I
[44:55] Speaker 1: do it anyway. I'm human. Exactly. Exactly. Yeah, for sure.
[44:59] Speaker 1: I think range is a great part of it too.
[45:01] Speaker 1: Great conversation. Talk to me about Watson. Oh, oh yeah.
[45:05] Speaker 1: So Watson, Watson was a, was a very, very challenging job.
[45:09] Speaker 1: You know, I played doctors before. Um, this one was
[45:13] Speaker 1: a little different in the sense that we're working with
[45:16] Speaker 1: a lot of rare medical conditions and, um, and just
[45:21] Speaker 1: the way the whole thing, the whole show worked out.
[45:24] Speaker 1: So I met with the producer, uh, on a general
[45:29] Speaker 1: and he literally, he was like, he was running down this,
[45:31] Speaker 1: like he said, he's a big producer, uh, And he
[45:33] Speaker 1: had a lot of shows going, a lot of stuff
[45:35] Speaker 1: in development. So he said, this is what we got
[45:37] Speaker 1: in development. And he's like, yeah, we got this show
[45:40] Speaker 1: about this doctor who was in the Sherlock Holmes universe.
[45:43] Speaker 1: And I just said, I never thought that they would
[45:45] Speaker 1: come to me with that. And because it was Sherlock
[45:48] Speaker 1: Holmes universe, it was TV, and I didn't think they
[45:51] Speaker 1: were going to do it. I didn't think they would
[45:52] Speaker 1: make the character black. And so then about six months later,
[45:58] Speaker 1: I got the call. I got the call, hey, they're
[46:00] Speaker 1: interested in you for... You know, the Stevie show. Yeah.
[46:06] Speaker 1: And and I went and did it. You know, it
[46:08] Speaker 1: was great. I loved it. I love this show. I
[46:10] Speaker 1: love the cast. It's a very it's a very cerebral show.
[46:14] Speaker 1: It's a show that you really have to pay attention to.
[46:17] Speaker 1: And I think that's part of the I think that's
[46:19] Speaker 1: part of the challenge is why we only got two seasons,
[46:21] Speaker 1: because it's not a show they can just turn on
[46:24] Speaker 1: in the background and follow it. if you miss certain
[46:27] Speaker 1: aspects of the first and second act, you're kind of
[46:29] Speaker 1: lost for the third act. Yeah, but it was, that
[46:33] Speaker 1: show right there, it was a very, very difficult show,
[46:35] Speaker 1: but it was definitely rewarding. And speaking of more range,
[46:39] Speaker 1: you're also a lawyer. I can't wait to get to
[46:46] Speaker 1: this part. Show called Reasonable Doubt. Oh, yes. Yes. You
[46:51] Speaker 1: know what? All I can say is this. I do
[46:56] Speaker 1: want to talk about this. You got to see it.
[47:01] Speaker 1: You got to see it because, okay, so I literally,
[47:05] Speaker 1: so when you do a network show, it is, I mean,
[47:10] Speaker 1: it's grueling. You know, it's grueling, especially when you're the
[47:12] Speaker 1: lead of a network show. You really don't have a
[47:14] Speaker 1: life because you're filming all week. On the weekends, you're
[47:17] Speaker 1: just going over lines, going over lines, going over lines.
[47:19] Speaker 1: We did 20 episodes, second season. So I was coming
[47:22] Speaker 1: to Reasonable Doubt. I'm on fumes when I come to
[47:28] Speaker 1: Reasonable Doubt. I'm on fumes. And I know who's in
[47:32] Speaker 1: the show, and I know who's in the show. I
[47:33] Speaker 1: know Sir Tank is in the show. And so I'm like, okay, cool, cool, cool. So...
[47:41] Speaker 1: My very first scene of shooting this season of Reasonable
[47:45] Speaker 1: Doubt is with Tank. Oh, that's dope. But see, here's
[47:50] Speaker 1: the part about it. So I was on Reasonable Doubt
[47:53] Speaker 1: for a couple seasons before. And I know the whole routine.
[47:56] Speaker 1: But I'm telling you, when I say I'm exhausted, I'm really,
[47:59] Speaker 1: really tired. And I'm there. I'm on set. Tank got
[48:04] Speaker 1: great energy, you know, great energy when I come to set.
[48:07] Speaker 1: But that's not what does it. What gives me, literally,
[48:11] Speaker 1: what gives me, what gives me like, what gives me like, oh,
[48:15] Speaker 1: we own something. His first scene that you and I
[48:18] Speaker 1: saw the other day, the scene that I did with Tank,
[48:22] Speaker 1: I just, I just watched him the whole time because
[48:25] Speaker 1: he carried the scene. And he carried the scene and
[48:29] Speaker 1: did an incredible job. I'm like, Oh, so this is
[48:32] Speaker 1: what we're doing. This is what we're doing. Okay. But
[48:36] Speaker 1: that was important. So, again, and I say this. So, again,
[48:42] Speaker 1: he killed me in the scene. Cut it out. He did.
[48:46] Speaker 1: He killed me in the scene. He killed me in
[48:48] Speaker 1: the scene because throughout the whole season, though, I'm a
[48:52] Speaker 1: team player, but throughout the whole season, him and Emi Asi,
[48:57] Speaker 1: their dynamic and what he brings, it really makes me
[49:01] Speaker 1: excited to see the scene. That day gave me really,
[49:04] Speaker 1: because I was exhausted. I was really exhausted throughout the
[49:07] Speaker 1: whole time, but I was like, oh, okay, because Tank
[49:09] Speaker 1: can go. I'd never seen him act before. That was
[49:13] Speaker 1: my first time. So he is Denzel Jr. Jr. Yeah,
[49:17] Speaker 1: he could be. He could be. No, no. Listen, and listen. Ah!
[49:22] Speaker 1: From the chestnut himself. I might have some. People know,
[49:26] Speaker 1: I don't just say things. I don't just say things like,
[49:31] Speaker 1: Me personally, I just don't say things instead of saying
[49:34] Speaker 1: something just to say it. Very talented actor. Very talented actor.
[49:38] Speaker 1: I'm really looking forward to seeing some of the stuff
[49:40] Speaker 1: we talked about that he did when I wasn't there.
[49:43] Speaker 1: But from, I'm telling you, Most of the scenes, you know,
[49:47] Speaker 1: him and Emi Ashi were just, you know, shitting on
[49:50] Speaker 1: me all day. They were going after Corey, but I
[49:54] Speaker 1: really did enjoy, like that scene, I really did enjoy
[49:58] Speaker 1: watching Tank do his thing. And then watching them together,
[50:01] Speaker 1: I was really a spectator in most of the scenes
[50:04] Speaker 1: with them. And it was like very impressive, very impressive.
[50:07] Speaker 1: Because Emi Ashi, I think, I'd say Cuba should have
[50:09] Speaker 1: won or been nominated for an Oscar. I think Emi
[50:15] Speaker 1: Ashi should be nominated for an Emmy for this season. 100%. Yeah, 100%. Oh, man,
[50:20] Speaker 1: I'm excited. Listen, I'm not lying. You should be. He
[50:24] Speaker 1: kills it. I'm not just saying that. He does a
[50:27] Speaker 1: great job. A great job. I think I even told
[50:29] Speaker 1: him a couple times, man. I said, man, you're doing
[50:32] Speaker 1: your thing. We was on the set and I was like,
[50:35] Speaker 1: I didn't sleep that night. Because. You was excited? I'm
[50:39] Speaker 1: about to sing with Morris. You know what I'm saying?
[50:42] Speaker 1: We even know I'm Morris. I'm on a Sunday. You
[50:44] Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? You know what I'm saying? I'm
[50:46] Speaker 1: going to hang out with him. And I'm like, I'm
[50:49] Speaker 1: getting ready to be in a scene with Morris Chestnut. Yeah.
[50:53] Speaker 1: I'm like, shit. I was in the trailer when I
[50:56] Speaker 1: was putting makeup on. It's like, you feel good? I
[50:59] Speaker 1: feel great. It's going to be great. And then he
[51:03] Speaker 1: just comes walking on set. And you know just that walk-in?
[51:07] Speaker 1: He got the walk-in. He got the walk-in, man. Anybody
[51:13] Speaker 1: ever offer you a record deal? For the walk-in, huh?
[51:18] Speaker 1: Just put together some compilation of walk-in music for Morris Chestnut.
[51:22] Speaker 1: He walked on set with his suit on and his
[51:24] Speaker 1: tablet and all your... That's it. There he go. That's him.
[51:34] Speaker 1: But I got to say, though, too, because it was
[51:35] Speaker 1: like I was telling you the other day. So for me,
[51:39] Speaker 1: when we did the scene, you can't really talk. I
[51:43] Speaker 1: don't want to talk too much about it for the
[51:45] Speaker 1: cameras because I'm not sure when it's going to be out.
[51:46] Speaker 1: It's going to be out after or before? Before. Before.
[51:49] Speaker 1: Because we're October 6th. Yeah, before. Okay, before. So I'm
[51:53] Speaker 1: not going to say exactly too much. But when we
[51:54] Speaker 1: did the scene, the audience, I didn't want my character
[52:00] Speaker 1: to get upset. And you guys will understand the dynamic
[52:03] Speaker 1: between me and this cat. I mean, this cat, I'm
[52:07] Speaker 1: really excited for people to see him. So I didn't
[52:09] Speaker 1: want my character to be upset. I didn't want him
[52:12] Speaker 1: to be able to get me to do that. And
[52:15] Speaker 1: then the way the scene ended, Dang. I got to
[52:21] Speaker 1: give it up. I got to give it up. And
[52:23] Speaker 1: it was killing me. It was killing me. And then
[52:26] Speaker 1: one time I did a take. One time I did
[52:28] Speaker 1: a take and I pulled, you probably didn't know this.
[52:29] Speaker 1: One time I did a take and I pulled it back.
[52:32] Speaker 1: I pulled back whatever we had. I pulled it back
[52:35] Speaker 1: and then Anton came over to me and he's like, yeah,
[52:38] Speaker 1: Rama liked it the other way. So I was like, okay,
[52:42] Speaker 1: all right, cool, cool, cool. I think that energy, people
[52:45] Speaker 1: are going to understand the energy and people are going
[52:46] Speaker 1: to realize like, Morrison actually fight. Well, no, I'm telling
[52:51] Speaker 1: you what people don't realize. Yeah. This man got talent, man.
[52:54] Speaker 1: I'm really, I'm really excited to see. Cause I think,
[52:57] Speaker 1: I think, I think what he, what he does in, in,
[53:00] Speaker 1: in this, I think a lot of great things are
[53:02] Speaker 1: coming for real. Yeah. That's dope. And it sounded like
[53:05] Speaker 1: you kicked his ass, but whatever. I'm just listening. I'm
[53:08] Speaker 1: talking about like his energy. He gave some different energy.
[53:14] Speaker 1: I mean, listen, y'all don't say too much. Yeah. Yeah,
[53:17] Speaker 1: I wasn't saying too much. You see it. When you
[53:19] Speaker 1: see it, I sound like Tank got his ass kicked,
[53:21] Speaker 1: but whatever. And honestly, look, normally, normally like in situations,
[53:25] Speaker 1: so like when you tell people, when you tell people,
[53:27] Speaker 1: one of the things why I don't like talking to
[53:29] Speaker 1: people when you go to a movie, you tell people, oh,
[53:31] Speaker 1: that movie was so great, so great. You go to
[53:33] Speaker 1: a movie, it's like, Okay, it was good, but it
[53:35] Speaker 1: wasn't that. Or you tell people, oh, that movie was horrible.
[53:37] Speaker 1: It was garbage. You can go on with the expectations. Okay,
[53:40] Speaker 1: it wasn't that bad. I don't mind saying that with
[53:43] Speaker 1: this because when they see the overall, when they see
[53:47] Speaker 1: the overall, the way he did, there's no way not
[53:51] Speaker 1: to be impressed by it, for sure. No, that's great.
[53:53] Speaker 1: I can't wait. Yeah, yeah. No, no. It's going to
[53:55] Speaker 1: be entertaining. It's going to be entertaining. But I got
[53:57] Speaker 1: to ask you something real quick. Uh-huh. Because I don't,
[54:00] Speaker 1: you know, listen, I'm getting older, so I don't know
[54:02] Speaker 1: if I'll ever get my chance. But People Magazine, most
[54:08] Speaker 1: beautiful man in the world, brother. Most handsome man. What
[54:11] Speaker 1: do they call it? Is it beautiful? Is it handsome?
[54:14] Speaker 1: Sexiest man alive. I don't know if I've been called that, man. Never. So,
[54:19] Speaker 1: you know, like I said, I'm getting older, so my
[54:21] Speaker 1: clock might be running out on People Magazine. Bro, when...
[54:27] Speaker 1: They call you and tell you that you're considered the most,
[54:30] Speaker 1: what is it? One of them? No, no, no, no, no.
[54:33] Speaker 1: I wasn't the most. Nah, bro. I was in the book. Nah,
[54:36] Speaker 1: fuck all that. You being humble. You on the R.B.
[54:39] Speaker 1: Money Park. We're going to say you was the one. Right?
[54:42] Speaker 1: When they call you and tell you you're the sexiest
[54:45] Speaker 1: man in the world, what do you say to your wife?
[54:48] Speaker 1: You say, hey, baby, you married right. You did the
[54:51] Speaker 1: right thing. I can say this. I mean, the one
[54:57] Speaker 1: thing about my wife is that, so my wife, we're
[55:02] Speaker 1: the same age. but she literally looks like she's like 25.
[55:07] Speaker 1: And she's never had, there's no point, there's that no
[55:11] Speaker 1: point that I can flex on her because she, she
[55:15] Speaker 1: always gets attention. She is the flex. She is the flex.
[55:17] Speaker 1: She always gets attention. She always, she always on me.
[55:19] Speaker 1: But to respond to that, honestly, so in this industry,
[55:25] Speaker 1: the one thing that I personally have never forgotten is
[55:28] Speaker 1: who I was before. before I came into the industry. Now,
[55:35] Speaker 1: growing up in elementary school, high school, I always had girls.
[55:41] Speaker 1: I always had girls, but I didn't have like, oh,
[55:44] Speaker 1: this is the, the baddest chick at this school is
[55:48] Speaker 1: this chick. I never got her. I would get the
[55:51] Speaker 1: one beneath her. So I always, the one thing, so
[55:54] Speaker 1: for me, it's always been the one thing I never
[55:59] Speaker 1: focused on in this industry Is the adulation and what
[56:03] Speaker 1: people are saying, because I've seen it in the past
[56:07] Speaker 1: with other people. You get so focused on what people
[56:11] Speaker 1: are saying and then you're you're you are controlled by that.
[56:17] Speaker 1: You need them to say something, but then if they
[56:19] Speaker 1: don't say something, then you feel bad. And me knowing
[56:24] Speaker 1: that this is the acting game. It's not a modeling game.
[56:27] Speaker 1: All that stuff is great. The way I see it,
[56:30] Speaker 1: whatever gets me my next job. If people want to
[56:33] Speaker 1: pigeonhole me and see me as the leading man, the heartthrob,
[56:36] Speaker 1: or whatever, great. But what I need to do is
[56:40] Speaker 1: I need to focus on the work. Because I see
[56:42] Speaker 1: people who come and You know, they just want to
[56:46] Speaker 1: just focus on just being the good-looking guy. And they're
[56:50] Speaker 1: so focused on that, they don't really focus on the work.
[56:52] Speaker 1: And then, you know, it's harder to get work. Yeah.
[56:56] Speaker 1: And they don't end up on the Walk of Fame. Yeah. Yeah.
[56:59] Speaker 1: I mean, because there's that. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know
[57:02] Speaker 1: what I mean? Yeah, that was fortunate. Yeah, that was fortunate. No,
[57:07] Speaker 1: that was on my mother, though. That was all my mother.
[57:09] Speaker 1: That was all my mother right there. You keep a— you
[57:13] Speaker 1: do your best to keep. steady amongst amidst everything that
[57:19] Speaker 1: you know is up and down and turbulent with all
[57:22] Speaker 1: of this like you do a great job like every
[57:25] Speaker 1: conversation every conversation we've had like you're you're and the
[57:28] Speaker 1: other part too that i think is great too is
[57:30] Speaker 1: that you're always you're always looking for more answers more
[57:35] Speaker 1: information a million percent always a million percent and we'd
[57:39] Speaker 1: be on set man he just I was picking his
[57:42] Speaker 1: brain about a lot of stuff. Yeah. And I'm like,
[57:44] Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, that's the other part to where your
[57:47] Speaker 1: cells are just going to keep regenerating. You keep looking
[57:49] Speaker 1: young is because you, you, you're still a student. I'm
[57:53] Speaker 1: a student of a couple of things. I'm a, I'm
[57:56] Speaker 1: a student of life, you know, because you're always learning.
[57:59] Speaker 1: And the one thing with tank, and again, the one
[58:01] Speaker 1: thing with tank is tank is a true artist with
[58:05] Speaker 1: a wealth of, knowledge and resources. I normally don't talk
[58:10] Speaker 1: that much, especially when someone's enrolled. Luckily we were in
[58:12] Speaker 1: the courtroom scene. You know, I wasn't doing that when
[58:14] Speaker 1: we were in the other scenes, but maybe it was
[58:16] Speaker 1: in the courtroom scenes when we were listening. That was
[58:17] Speaker 1: my opportunity to really talk to you and ask you
[58:19] Speaker 1: all those questions because Tank has a lot. Tank has
[58:22] Speaker 1: a lot. He got a lot in the tank, you
[58:25] Speaker 1: know what I'm saying? He got a lot in the tank.
[58:27] Speaker 1: So I was just trying to draw for him. And
[58:28] Speaker 1: then even hearing, you know, his perspective on things and,
[58:33] Speaker 1: And that is me. I'm always just inquisitive. You know,
[58:37] Speaker 1: I'll never forget one time I was walking down the street.
[58:40] Speaker 1: I was walking down the street. It was in New York.
[58:42] Speaker 1: And I was walking down the street. A whole bunch
[58:43] Speaker 1: of people on the street. There was this, unfortunately, it
[58:46] Speaker 1: was a homeless person. You know, just, you know, he
[58:50] Speaker 1: was laying on with the blanket and everything. And just
[58:55] Speaker 1: as I was walking by, he was like, what did
[58:57] Speaker 1: he say? People should never get married. And I said, okay.
[59:02] Speaker 1: I kind of slowed down and paused because I wanted
[59:05] Speaker 1: to hear his perspective on why he thought people should
[59:09] Speaker 1: never get married. married. Because for me, again, you know,
[59:13] Speaker 1: I've learned so much in life. And the main thing
[59:16] Speaker 1: I know is I damn sure don't know everything. You
[59:19] Speaker 1: know what I mean? And I'm always still learning it.
[59:21] Speaker 1: Anybody can teach you something, whether it's the homeless man
[59:23] Speaker 1: on the street or it's a five-year-old kid. Anybody with
[59:27] Speaker 1: a different perspective on the world or any subject can
[59:31] Speaker 1: teach you something. So that's why I'm always listening for things. Always. Yeah.
[59:35] Speaker 1: They're very inquisitive. We got something for you to listen to. Okay.
[59:47] Speaker 1: You know what I mean? We got some jams. Okay. Okay. Oh, yeah. Oh,
[59:55] Speaker 1: I thought that was going to be something. It's going
[1:00:01] Speaker 1: to be something. Brother Morris Chestnut. The Black Superman, as
[1:00:12] Speaker 1: we call you. The soundtrack to our lives. Music has
[1:00:22] Speaker 1: been in all of your movies. But I also know
[1:00:27] Speaker 1: that you love movies, music, I'm sorry, music to your soul.
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: And the people want to know. What they want to know.
[1:00:35] Speaker 1: Here on the RB Money Podcast. Come on. What is
[1:00:38] Speaker 1: your top five? Okay. Your top five. Yeah. Yeah. Top five.
[1:00:55] Speaker 1: Your top five. Come on. R & B singers. R &
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: B songs. We've got to know. Before you go. We're
[1:01:03] Speaker 1: on this show. For the most they want to know.
[1:01:08] Speaker 1: In your top five. Yes. Come on, dog. Right, right, right, right, right.
[1:01:22] Speaker 1: Top five. Your top five. Yeah. All right, all right,
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: all right. Fresh about to rain. Come on, dog. So
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: that's a very tough question. Let me set you up, Mo.
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: Let me set you up. Okay. Fresh out the rain.
[1:01:57] Speaker 1: You got to cut. Your top five R & B singers. Okay. Yeah.
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: So does this include groups? Whatever you want. Okay. You
[1:02:08] Speaker 1: more as chestnut, brother. Okay. Okay. So I thought about this.
[1:02:13] Speaker 1: knowing I was coming on the show. So different artists
[1:02:18] Speaker 1: have different meanings because some of the artists, I enjoy
[1:02:22] Speaker 1: their work, but some of the artists really, really resonated
[1:02:27] Speaker 1: with me when I was growing up. So, and coming
[1:02:30] Speaker 1: up in the game. So what a lot, so I'll say,
[1:02:34] Speaker 1: and this is in no particular order. Okay. So the
[1:02:37] Speaker 1: first one I will say, so going back to the
[1:02:40] Speaker 1: story with the bank, so this is a quick story.
[1:02:41] Speaker 1: So when I was at the bank, I asked my
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: manager at the bank, Hey, can I go for this audition? So, Oh,
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: of course they love me at the bank. Oh yeah,
[1:02:48] Speaker 1: you can do whatever time you need to go for
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: your audition. Cool. So I went for the audition. I
[1:02:53] Speaker 1: came back and she was like, um, a couple of
[1:02:57] Speaker 1: days later, she goes, Hey, did you ever get that part?
[1:02:59] Speaker 1: I was like, no, no, I didn't get the part.
[1:03:03] Speaker 1: And she goes, well, listen, when you're done with the
[1:03:06] Speaker 1: acting thing, you know, we, we, we love you here.
[1:03:08] Speaker 1: You can stay here. I was like, okay, thank you. But,
[1:03:12] Speaker 1: I thought to myself, I was still young. I'm like,
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: when I'm done with the acting thing, you know, they don't,
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: she don't think I'm gonna make it. And it was
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: a very, it was a comment that was very innocuous.
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: She didn't mean anything by it. She was just trying
[1:03:26] Speaker 1: to be nice. And so that at that point is
[1:03:30] Speaker 1: when I knew I would never tell anybody that I
[1:03:33] Speaker 1: had an audition if I didn't have to. I would
[1:03:36] Speaker 1: never even tell people I was in the industry. To
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: this day, numerous people around me, close to me, be like,
[1:03:42] Speaker 1: we don't know what you're calling me. We don't know
[1:03:44] Speaker 1: we're not going to have a show out until we
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: see it on TV. Because I just don't tell people.
[1:03:49] Speaker 1: But that being said, going to top five artists, one
[1:03:54] Speaker 1: of my top artists is, and I'll bring it full circle,
[1:04:00] Speaker 1: is Anita Baker. So one of the reasons why Anita Baker,
[1:04:05] Speaker 1: so when I was going on these auditions, And when
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: I wasn't getting these parts, so you go on these auditions,
[1:04:11] Speaker 1: especially being young, you put yourself out there. You auditioning
[1:04:14] Speaker 1: for these people and you really want it and you
[1:04:16] Speaker 1: really want it. And, you know, it's all emotional. Some
[1:04:19] Speaker 1: roles are emotional, some auditions, but it was always exhausting.
[1:04:23] Speaker 1: And then when I wouldn't get them, of course, I
[1:04:24] Speaker 1: would get down. So what I used to do a
[1:04:29] Speaker 1: lot back then is I would have songs, R &
[1:04:36] Speaker 1: B songs, be my positive affirmation to me. So when
[1:04:41] Speaker 1: I would, I would basically sing the songs to myself
[1:04:46] Speaker 1: and I was a huge Anita Baker fan. And, and
[1:04:49] Speaker 1: one of my songs by her was the best thing yet,
[1:04:52] Speaker 1: because at the end of it, you know, she would
[1:04:55] Speaker 1: have this, this whole power. You're so wonderful. You're so beautiful.
[1:05:00] Speaker 1: It was a positive, positive affirmation over and over again.
[1:05:04] Speaker 1: And so Anita Baker with numerous songs, but, Anita Baker's
[1:05:09] Speaker 1: one of them, for sure. Got you through them tough times.
[1:05:13] Speaker 1: Anita and a few people, but Anita, I would listen
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: to Anita a lot. I would go to my car.
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: Even when I would go to auditions, I knew I
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: didn't do a good job. And then, you know, no
[1:05:24] Speaker 1: one in the world. I mean, there's so many songs
[1:05:27] Speaker 1: by Anita. I would just listen to and just sing
[1:05:30] Speaker 1: to myself that would keep me going because I couldn't
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: talk to anybody. So Anita's one, one of them. Even
[1:05:36] Speaker 1: going back... So this is a group that I courted
[1:05:42] Speaker 1: my wife to their first album. We would always listen
[1:05:47] Speaker 1: to the first album way back in the day, and
[1:05:49] Speaker 1: it was Jodeci. As you should. Come on. Jodeci. You
[1:05:53] Speaker 1: court with that. You can't do no wrong. You can't
[1:05:56] Speaker 1: do no wrong. Jodeci. And that was just on repeat, repeat, repeat. Cassette, CD, repeat, repeat, repeat.
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: Always playing it. So, so, so Jodeci is, is one.
[1:06:11] Speaker 1: And then I would have to go in terms of,
[1:06:15] Speaker 1: in terms of R & B. I got to go
[1:06:17] Speaker 1: for the songs that resonated throughout my life. And I always,
[1:06:20] Speaker 1: of course, the songs that resonate with me the most
[1:06:24] Speaker 1: are the ones that I apply to what I'm going
[1:06:26] Speaker 1: through in my life. And Boys and Men has some
[1:06:29] Speaker 1: really strong songs. Come on. Come on. That, that, that
[1:06:34] Speaker 1: would resonate. That's three, right? Yeah, that's three. That's three. Now,
[1:06:41] Speaker 1: the next one is a very honest, it's very honest.
[1:06:46] Speaker 1: It's not no lie or nothing. The next one, it
[1:06:49] Speaker 1: would be Tank. Come on. And it's no lie. So
[1:06:53] Speaker 1: you got some songs. I'm not going to say which
[1:06:55] Speaker 1: ones they are. You got some songs that really resonated
[1:06:58] Speaker 1: with me. Really, I was a huge, I'm a huge fan.
[1:07:02] Speaker 1: Really resonated with me at moments. And the one thing that,
[1:07:07] Speaker 1: one thing that I loved about Tank's music that, that
[1:07:11] Speaker 1: I don't know if, I don't know if you could
[1:07:13] Speaker 1: do it today. There was so much vulnerability in your songs.
[1:07:17] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? In a sense to where,
[1:07:20] Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, I guess, you know, I
[1:07:22] Speaker 1: guess the younger generation now feels like if a dude
[1:07:25] Speaker 1: is vulnerable, he's a simp or whatever they call it.
[1:07:28] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? But back in our day,
[1:07:30] Speaker 1: that's what we would do. All the songs were about that.
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: All the songs were about that. And that's what I read.
[1:07:35] Speaker 1: So Tank has a few songs that are like a
[1:07:38] Speaker 1: really heavily played, like really heavily played. I never told
[1:07:42] Speaker 1: you that, but that's true. I feel like that's coming
[1:07:46] Speaker 1: back though too though. Cause there are certain artists that are,
[1:07:49] Speaker 1: I feel like the ones that are the most vulnerable
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: of the younger artists are having the most success. Young
[1:07:54] Speaker 1: fellas like Rod Wave. Yeah. Oh, I'm not familiar with him. Oh,
[1:07:56] Speaker 1: you got to tap into him. Oh, really? He sings,
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: but it's leaning more toward, it feels like rap music,
[1:08:03] Speaker 1: but he's singing. Okay. But it's very emotional. Is it
[1:08:06] Speaker 1: R & B? Or is it hip hop? It is.
[1:08:09] Speaker 1: It is. It's like hip hop and R & B.
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: It toes the line of melodic rap. Yeah, it's melodic rap. Okay. Okay.
[1:08:15] Speaker 1: But it's very emotional. It's emotional. And he's speaking his truth. Yep.
[1:08:20] Speaker 1: Speaking is true. Or even a Brett Fias. You know
[1:08:23] Speaker 1: what I mean? I haven't heard of him. Oh, you
[1:08:25] Speaker 1: got to tap in, bro. Don't worry, we'll put you in.
[1:08:27] Speaker 1: So where are they playing these cats now? I mean,
[1:08:32] Speaker 1: that's another thing that's hard. Yeah, now it's like you
[1:08:34] Speaker 1: got to kind of kind of find and discover these things.
[1:08:37] Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? These young fellas are doing arenas, though.
[1:08:40] Speaker 1: Are they really? Oh, yeah. I'm just out of touch
[1:08:42] Speaker 1: because on, you know, whenever you go to Pandora or whatever,
[1:08:46] Speaker 1: you put in your artist in a similar song, so
[1:08:49] Speaker 1: it's all from my generation. I'm not really sure who
[1:08:51] Speaker 1: the dude got. And, you know, I got you guys. Well,
[1:08:53] Speaker 1: I got Chris on there, too, but I still haven't
[1:08:55] Speaker 1: heard them on his either. Oh, yeah. You probably don't
[1:08:57] Speaker 1: know if you heard them. I don't know if I
[1:08:59] Speaker 1: heard them? Yeah. Okay. You probably heard some Brent on there.
[1:09:01] Speaker 1: You definitely heard some Brent on Chris. Oh, really? Okay.
[1:09:03] Speaker 1: So I'm going to start paying more attention to that.
[1:09:07] Speaker 1: It's starting to connect, man, with that younger generation. And obviously,
[1:09:10] Speaker 1: you know, I got a 19-year-old son, so I'm hearing
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: what he's playing, too. I'm like, oh. You and your feelings.
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: I like this. I see it coming around. Okay. Okay.
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: And I got one left. And there are a lot of,
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: let me just say this. There are a lot of
[1:09:26] Speaker 1: honorable mentions because I'm an R & B. I love
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: all R & B. But the one that's left is
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: the one. And I'm not considering Michael and all those cats.
[1:09:35] Speaker 1: I think it's more pop or whatever. Do that. Huh?
[1:09:39] Speaker 1: Let Morris be Morris, man. Is that bad? No, I'm
[1:09:42] Speaker 1: not saying it's bad. You said he could be Morris.
[1:09:44] Speaker 1: Mike is one of us, brother. He's R & B. No,
[1:09:47] Speaker 1: he is. He's just the most popular R & B guy.
[1:09:50] Speaker 1: You consider Michael's music R & B? Yes. Okay. Yes.
[1:09:55] Speaker 1: I just consider it to be so high level and
[1:10:01] Speaker 1: more palatable for the world that they just bought into it.
[1:10:07] Speaker 1: But that is... from a singing standpoint, from the musicianship
[1:10:12] Speaker 1: to the live musicians, that is R & B music
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: to me. Quincy Jones did jazz and R & B.
[1:10:20] Speaker 1: And when he did Michael Jackson, they did R &
[1:10:22] Speaker 1: B at the highest level. This is my opinion of it. No, no, no, no, no.
[1:10:26] Speaker 1: I can respect that. I'm thinking that... I can say this. PYT?
[1:10:33] Speaker 1: I can say this. I am... probably one of the,
[1:10:38] Speaker 1: everyone can probably say this, probably one of the biggest
[1:10:40] Speaker 1: Michael Jackson fans ever. He is, he will, is, and
[1:10:46] Speaker 1: will always be my favorite entertainer ever. I love this music.
[1:10:57] Speaker 1: His music had, for whatever reason, didn't resonate with me.
[1:11:05] Speaker 1: Even like, With some Hank song. Right. When you say
[1:11:09] Speaker 1: Anita Baker and that type of thing, is there a
[1:11:12] Speaker 1: different feeling connected to it? A million percent. Because like
[1:11:16] Speaker 1: I say, look, I have moments with, you know, me
[1:11:19] Speaker 1: and my boy, we singing Michael, but it's not, it's not,
[1:11:22] Speaker 1: you know, and I love Michael Jackson, but it's not
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: resonating with like those songs. It just doesn't for me. Now,
[1:11:30] Speaker 1: great songs. PYT is great. I can probably... I can't
[1:11:35] Speaker 1: sing it, but I can try to break down the
[1:11:36] Speaker 1: lyrics for you right now, the whole song, forwards and backwards.
[1:11:40] Speaker 1: But it didn't, I can't really think of, and I
[1:11:48] Speaker 1: don't know all of them, but I can't really think
[1:11:50] Speaker 1: of any Michael songs to where I'm going through it
[1:11:53] Speaker 1: and dealing with it, and I'm hearing it on the
[1:11:55] Speaker 1: radio or hearing it on my thing and say, that's
[1:11:59] Speaker 1: what I'm feeling right now. And it hit me right here,
[1:12:02] Speaker 1: just like that. You've been married for a long time,
[1:12:04] Speaker 1: so you probably ain't had your Dirty Diana's in a
[1:12:06] Speaker 1: long time. But see, I think the next artist I'm
[1:12:10] Speaker 1: about to say covers the Dirty Diana. Bring it home, boys.
[1:12:13] Speaker 1: Bring it home. I'm going to bring it home with
[1:12:17] Speaker 1: who I think everyone, well, not everyone says he's a king,
[1:12:20] Speaker 1: but I think he's a top You know, one time.
[1:12:22] Speaker 1: Here's R. Kelly. I think, for me, you know, he,
[1:12:27] Speaker 1: I will say he, in my opinion, he's the top cat. R.
[1:12:32] Speaker 1: Kelly's the top cat. I ain't mad at you. Yeah,
[1:12:35] Speaker 1: I just. Rob is Rob. Your list is incredible. Your
[1:12:38] Speaker 1: list is incredible. voicing me and Joe to see Anita Baker. Kindles.
[1:12:42] Speaker 1: And remember all of these, and all of these, Robert Kelly.
[1:12:48] Speaker 1: All of these, I'm telling you, they have, they have
[1:12:50] Speaker 1: music and multiple songs that really like resonate. For sure.
[1:12:54] Speaker 1: For sure. Top five R & B songs. Songs. Okay.
[1:12:59] Speaker 1: That's going to be, so I got to put again, again,
[1:13:03] Speaker 1: I'll go with, now all of these songs are not,
[1:13:07] Speaker 1: something that just resonated with me is this song. I
[1:13:09] Speaker 1: just said, that's a really nice song. But I got
[1:13:11] Speaker 1: to say, best thing yet, Nita Baker. Yeah. I have
[1:13:14] Speaker 1: to say this song. There was a song. So with
[1:13:17] Speaker 1: me is I always, if there are negative things about
[1:13:22] Speaker 1: an artist, I always just let it go. You know,
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: even if I had a beef with an artist, I'll
[1:13:28] Speaker 1: always let it go because I can still respect what
[1:13:31] Speaker 1: they do. So one of my favorite songs that I
[1:13:34] Speaker 1: had a major part in my life was Crazy Love.
[1:13:37] Speaker 1: by Brian McKnight. Why are you laughing? Now the streets
[1:13:44] Speaker 1: want to know. What's that? I said, because now the
[1:13:47] Speaker 1: streets want to know. What's that? You was meeting with
[1:13:49] Speaker 1: Brian McKnight? Oh, no, no, no. No, everybody knew about it. Well,
[1:13:52] Speaker 1: a lot of people, we knew about it. It just
[1:13:54] Speaker 1: came from the court. I don't have anything outside. We
[1:13:58] Speaker 1: were playing in the league. And of course... A lot
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: of underlined Ds in that league, man. Yeah. So we're
[1:14:06] Speaker 1: playing in the league and now you guys know I'm
[1:14:10] Speaker 1: not a baller, but I would play defense. I can
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: hit occasional shots. Yeah, yeah. So the team that I
[1:14:15] Speaker 1: was on, they would always, they were, whoever was on
[1:14:19] Speaker 1: the other team, like one time I had to go
[1:14:20] Speaker 1: on air and they were like, yo, go in there
[1:14:22] Speaker 1: and shut Aaron down. It didn't happen. You was Tony Allen. Yeah,
[1:14:25] Speaker 1: I was Tony Allen. I was Tony Allen. And so,
[1:14:30] Speaker 1: this was like the last public outburst I had, I think. But, so,
[1:14:34] Speaker 1: they put me on Brian. And I already knew Brian
[1:14:37] Speaker 1: because we had played somewhere before and You know, Brian,
[1:14:41] Speaker 1: you know, he could play, but he really thought highly
[1:14:44] Speaker 1: of his game, right? And so I think he felt
[1:14:47] Speaker 1: that it was... No, no, he could... No, what? So
[1:14:51] Speaker 1: I really think he felt somewhat disrespected of them putting
[1:14:56] Speaker 1: me on him. The audacity. The audacity of putting me
[1:14:58] Speaker 1: on him. Y'all gonna put Ricky on me? Exactly, exactly.
[1:15:02] Speaker 1: But see, I had already played against him before, but
[1:15:04] Speaker 1: I knew... so brian would never go he couldn't go
[1:15:07] Speaker 1: left yeah it was his right to the jump shot
[1:15:09] Speaker 1: his right yeah was quick as hell you could take
[1:15:13] Speaker 1: it away and he would still go right it was
[1:15:16] Speaker 1: quick as hell but i knew that so we were
[1:15:19] Speaker 1: playing it was an intense game and and he uh
[1:15:22] Speaker 1: he was getting frustrated he was getting frustrated and and
[1:15:25] Speaker 1: it just it just got to a point to where
[1:15:28] Speaker 1: it got to a point I knew he was frustrated
[1:15:31] Speaker 1: because he wasn't scoring like he was normally scoring. Because
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: I was just, I'm like, I'm not moving from your right.
[1:15:36] Speaker 1: I'm going to stay here. You can jab. You can
[1:15:38] Speaker 1: do whatever you need to do. I'm not going nowhere.
[1:15:40] Speaker 1: And then when you do that move, I'm going to
[1:15:42] Speaker 1: step in front of you. And then, you know, it
[1:15:45] Speaker 1: got to the point to where, so he got frustrated.
[1:15:47] Speaker 1: And then he got a little physical. And then the refs,
[1:15:50] Speaker 1: I felt that the refs started giving him calls. You know,
[1:15:52] Speaker 1: they started catering to Brian. So it was just a little,
[1:15:56] Speaker 1: you know, it was just a little, one time he
[1:15:58] Speaker 1: got frustrated and it was just like a little shoving
[1:16:01] Speaker 1: back and forth. And then, and then they teed me up.
[1:16:07] Speaker 1: They teed me up. And I was like, all right, cool. Yeah,
[1:16:11] Speaker 1: tee me up. Go tee me up. You know what
[1:16:14] Speaker 1: I'm saying? Not like you were doing anything to get
[1:16:18] Speaker 1: teed up. I don't know why they did that to me. Listen,
[1:16:21] Speaker 1: I was on it, but I was playing good defense
[1:16:23] Speaker 1: on it. I was playing good defense on it. But
[1:16:24] Speaker 1: it was just one of those things to where, you know.
[1:16:27] Speaker 1: He got chippy. It got chippy. It got chippy. And
[1:16:30] Speaker 1: like I said, I don't have any beef with them.
[1:16:31] Speaker 1: And you still listen to Crazy Love. There it is.
[1:16:33] Speaker 1: Crazy Love was, Crazy Love was, it was, it was,
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: it was, it played a part. I don't want to
[1:16:39] Speaker 1: say what the part was, but it played a part
[1:16:41] Speaker 1: in my life, a significant part in my life. So
[1:16:45] Speaker 1: Crazy Love, Crazy Love was one of the songs. One
[1:16:47] Speaker 1: song I love is, I'm not sure if it's, and
[1:16:51] Speaker 1: I just like the lyrics of the song, is Dangerously
[1:16:55] Speaker 1: in Love. Woo! The lyrics, the lyrics on that song,
[1:17:01] Speaker 1: when you just really just sit and listen and hear
[1:17:05] Speaker 1: what she's saying and the meaning behind it. Yep. That
[1:17:09] Speaker 1: right there, that right there is one of my all
[1:17:11] Speaker 1: time favorites. I would say, so this is another, I
[1:17:14] Speaker 1: didn't have any, any type of emotional connection to that one.
[1:17:17] Speaker 1: I just love the lyrics. I do have an emotional
[1:17:19] Speaker 1: connection to Maxwell has a woman's work. Yeah. Yeah. I
[1:17:26] Speaker 1: have an emotional connection to that song. I was in
[1:17:31] Speaker 1: Fiji when something happened to me in Fiji, and I
[1:17:34] Speaker 1: realized that something happened back here with one of my
[1:17:37] Speaker 1: best friends and whatever it's like. So that's one. So
[1:17:39] Speaker 1: how many is that? Is that three? That's four. Okay.
[1:17:45] Speaker 1: So another song I had an emotional connection. So we
[1:17:49] Speaker 1: used to really hang out at this place called the Yamaha.
[1:17:53] Speaker 1: And when we would go there, we would listen to Luther.
[1:17:57] Speaker 1: And House Is Not A Home was a really, really,
[1:18:00] Speaker 1: really strong song. But the whole album with Creep and
[1:18:03] Speaker 1: all that song was So, yeah, so I'll say Luther
[1:18:06] Speaker 1: because he's one of my favorite artists. Listen, I have
[1:18:09] Speaker 1: so many favorite artists. I mean, that's why I said
[1:18:11] Speaker 1: top five. No, top five is tough. That's how she
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: was about to give us a Just Me and You, Tony, Tony, Tony,
[1:18:16] Speaker 1: since that played such a... You know, when that played
[1:18:19] Speaker 1: in the movie, it was like, ah! So, yeah, so
[1:18:23] Speaker 1: those things, look, I have, there are artists and songs
[1:18:26] Speaker 1: that I like that, you know, that I've seen in
[1:18:30] Speaker 1: movies that, you know, are cool for the movies, but...
[1:18:33] Speaker 1: but you know, Oh, you know, I do have one.
[1:18:36] Speaker 1: I can't, I can't, I can't, I'm not going to
[1:18:40] Speaker 1: say which song it is. I can tell you guys
[1:18:41] Speaker 1: off the air. I'm not going to say which song
[1:18:44] Speaker 1: it is, but it's, by Tyrese. And I'm not going
[1:18:47] Speaker 1: to say which song it is, but he has a
[1:18:49] Speaker 1: song that really resonates for me as well. But I
[1:18:52] Speaker 1: don't want to say that on the air. Okay. Absolutely.
[1:18:55] Speaker 1: All right. Let's make an R & B Voltron. All right. Okay.
[1:18:59] Speaker 1: This is where we make your super R & B artists.
[1:19:03] Speaker 1: And you decide where you're going to get the vocal from.
[1:19:06] Speaker 1: The performance style. Okay. The styling of the artists. The
[1:19:11] Speaker 1: passion of the artists. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay. Okay. And
[1:19:16] Speaker 1: could this one be a great actor? Can he act?
[1:19:19] Speaker 1: And if he can act, what role you want to
[1:19:20] Speaker 1: see him in? Let's go. Let's go. Okay, so where
[1:19:23] Speaker 1: are you going to get the vocal from? One vocal.
[1:19:25] Speaker 1: Of all the five? No, no. Of anybody? Of anybody.
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: You're making a super R & B artist. You're building
[1:19:31] Speaker 1: them in the lab, and you're picking one vocalist from
[1:19:35] Speaker 1: the beginning of time. What one vocal do you want
[1:19:38] Speaker 1: for your super R & B artist? One singer. I
[1:19:43] Speaker 1: would have to say she has some incredible songs. I
[1:19:49] Speaker 1: love a lot of her songs. I would have to
[1:19:52] Speaker 1: say Whitney Houston. The voice. I got to take Whitney.
[1:19:59] Speaker 1: One of the greatest of all time. Yeah, I got
[1:20:01] Speaker 1: to take Whitney. Okay. Whitney for the voice. Whitney for
[1:20:04] Speaker 1: the voice. Performance style on stage. Michael Jackson. I mean, Michael,
[1:20:09] Speaker 1: my favorite entertainer of all time. Mack. Yeah, yeah. Whitney
[1:20:13] Speaker 1: voice performing like Michael is nuts. Styling. The drip of
[1:20:19] Speaker 1: the artist. Who got the walk-in clothes? Who got the
[1:20:26] Speaker 1: fly walk-in clothes, man? Yeah. Wow. Wow. Performance-wise, who... So,
[1:20:40] Speaker 1: if the clothes you see them on stage with, maybe
[1:20:42] Speaker 1: you see them in magazines and stuff, and they got the,
[1:20:45] Speaker 1: you know, all of it. Or they're recognizable for their drip.
[1:20:50] Speaker 1: So I'm trying to think if, I mean, we're going
[1:20:57] Speaker 1: back in the day. I mean, you know, if I
[1:21:00] Speaker 1: go with some of the artists, I would say Jodeci's drip.
[1:21:04] Speaker 1: Huge Jodeci, man. I would say that drip. They had
[1:21:07] Speaker 1: the style. Stylistically, they were there. I know, you know.
[1:21:11] Speaker 1: Black leather in the desert. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:21:14] Speaker 1: I love that. I would say that. It was Timbaland Boots.
[1:21:17] Speaker 1: It was Timbaland Boots. But emotional song. It was the
[1:21:21] Speaker 1: edge with the emotion. I'm telling you. Because people always
[1:21:23] Speaker 1: get that confused about Jodeci. Right. When they're trying to
[1:21:26] Speaker 1: be Jodeci. The song's too aggressive. Jodeci sang love songs.
[1:21:29] Speaker 1: Love songs. Oh, for sure. Yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure.
[1:21:32] Speaker 1: And were they actually Timberlands? I think they were more
[1:21:34] Speaker 1: of like a leather constructionist boot. I don't think they
[1:21:37] Speaker 1: was rocking Tims, bro. No, I think they was Tims.
[1:21:38] Speaker 1: We have to go back on this. I got to.
[1:21:42] Speaker 1: Feeling those was Tim, Black Tims, Black Leather Tims. They
[1:21:44] Speaker 1: were Tims for sure. Because that was a thing. It
[1:21:47] Speaker 1: might have been a lug. It might wouldn't have been.
[1:21:49] Speaker 1: It could have been a lug. I might wouldn't have been.
[1:21:50] Speaker 1: It's a style. It's a style. It's a style. It
[1:21:53] Speaker 1: could have been a lug. I was like, I was
[1:21:56] Speaker 1: looking at some old pictures. I'm like. Or just a
[1:21:58] Speaker 1: straight industrial. Industrial. Yeah, yeah, yeah. We coming to work. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay.
[1:22:04] Speaker 1: We got to look at that. We got to look
[1:22:06] Speaker 1: at that. Pull that up. That could be it. Okay.
[1:22:08] Speaker 1: The passion of the artist. The heart of the artist.
[1:22:11] Speaker 1: Like who means it? Oh, like who means it? Who
[1:22:14] Speaker 1: means it? Who gonna win the thing? When they sing it,
[1:22:17] Speaker 1: you feel it in your soul. I have to go. Wow.
[1:22:32] Speaker 1: I'm gonna go with Tank. Come on, man. I'm gonna
[1:22:35] Speaker 1: go with Tank. It's either you or Nita, but you know,
[1:22:43] Speaker 1: I'll go with Tank. I'll go with Tank. Can we
[1:22:46] Speaker 1: do this? Do whatever you want. Can I go Passion because...
[1:22:51] Speaker 1: Can I go Tank Tyrese? You can. I'll go Tank Tyrese.
[1:22:56] Speaker 1: Because I resonate with some of his songs too. Of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Absolutely.
[1:22:59] Speaker 1: And again, you know, for me, when you talk about
[1:23:03] Speaker 1: the passion and what resonates, you guys really resonate for me,
[1:23:08] Speaker 1: you know, Cause the moments, you know, in your songs
[1:23:12] Speaker 1: that I'm really, really feeling. Um, and, and you guys, yeah,
[1:23:16] Speaker 1: I was, I'll go, I'll go tank Tyrese. Yeah. And
[1:23:20] Speaker 1: what role are you casting this super artist for? What
[1:23:26] Speaker 1: role am I casting this artist for? Ooh. Well, okay.
[1:23:33] Speaker 1: I'll say this. There's one of my favorite artists that
[1:23:36] Speaker 1: I didn't mention that I go way back being a
[1:23:40] Speaker 1: fan of, but in this type of movie, because it
[1:23:44] Speaker 1: has the range of everything, and I love this artist,
[1:23:48] Speaker 1: I would have to go, I would cast that person,
[1:23:51] Speaker 1: because I want to see the range, in Purple Rain,
[1:23:55] Speaker 1: a Purple Rain remake. because we have all of the emotion.
[1:24:02] Speaker 1: If people don't see, that's what made that soundtrack so
[1:24:04] Speaker 1: tricky because you're following the story and you engage and
[1:24:07] Speaker 1: then he's hitting you with all these songs. So that's
[1:24:10] Speaker 1: what I would do. Yeah, that was good. I like that.
[1:24:13] Speaker 1: I like that. Yeah, who's one of my favorite artists
[1:24:15] Speaker 1: of all time as well, of course. And I didn't
[1:24:17] Speaker 1: want to just say that. You consider Prince R & B?
[1:24:23] Speaker 1: Now I'm just giving you a hard time. So, listen. See,
[1:24:30] Speaker 1: Prince's music resonates with me. I definitely say he's definitely
[1:24:34] Speaker 1: an R & B artist. And I think probably... I
[1:24:42] Speaker 1: think maybe, you know, of course, I think he's R &
[1:24:44] Speaker 1: B artist. But when I think about, of course, some
[1:24:47] Speaker 1: of his songs, yes. But he has such a unique sound.
[1:24:51] Speaker 1: And maybe when I'm thinking R & B, I'm just
[1:24:53] Speaker 1: thinking just you got that sound that, you know. Yeah,
[1:24:57] Speaker 1: the sound exchange. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. He's more, I would
[1:25:01] Speaker 1: say to me, he's an R & B rock star.
[1:25:05] Speaker 1: Michael Jackson is an R & B pop star. Yeah, okay, okay, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. No,
[1:25:12] Speaker 1: that's good. That's a good way to see it because,
[1:25:14] Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I go back to Prince. Because
[1:25:16] Speaker 1: now Beyonce is an R & B pop star. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:25:23] Speaker 1: I mean, not to say the song still can't resonate.
[1:25:24] Speaker 1: I mean, I love Beyonce too, but, man, I go
[1:25:27] Speaker 1: Prince with all, I go way back with Prince. Like,
[1:25:31] Speaker 1: songs people ain't even heard of, like Head and all
[1:25:34] Speaker 1: those other songs. It's crazy. Oh yeah, you tapped in.
[1:25:36] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely. We got one more thing for you. Sure, sure, sure.
[1:25:40] Speaker 1: Come on. That ain't right. Play it, fucker. I ain't
[1:25:49] Speaker 1: saying no names. Come on. I ain't saying no names.
[1:25:52] Speaker 1: I ain't saying no names. I ain't saying no names.
[1:25:55] Speaker 1: Who you was? Who you was with? I love that.
[1:26:05] Speaker 1: I love that. I love that. You put him in
[1:26:09] Speaker 1: your list. He's showing off, bro. He's showing off. He's like, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1:26:24] Speaker 1: Morris put me in this. He put me in his top.
[1:26:27] Speaker 1: He put me in his top. For real, for real,
[1:26:30] Speaker 1: for real. Very important part of the show where you
[1:26:34] Speaker 1: tell us a story, funny or fucked up, or funny
[1:26:38] Speaker 1: and fucked up. The only rule to the game is
[1:26:42] Speaker 1: Morris Chestnut, the walk of fame, can't say no names. Okay,
[1:26:47] Speaker 1: so funny, I don't, funny. I'll just say, I have
[1:26:52] Speaker 1: two stories that are kind of similar. Okay. Not as similar,
[1:26:55] Speaker 1: but they're kind of different approaches of me and Puppet.
[1:26:59] Speaker 1: I'm somewhat, I'm an introvert. I'm a very big introvert.
[1:27:02] Speaker 1: I'm at my most comfortable when I'm at home doing nothing,
[1:27:07] Speaker 1: sitting on the couch. So there was, so, but of course,
[1:27:13] Speaker 1: you know, I've gone to parties and things like that.
[1:27:14] Speaker 1: But I said, you know, Sometimes I'm going to go
[1:27:17] Speaker 1: out and I know I've heard people say, oh, they
[1:27:22] Speaker 1: said you like this. People felt, I've heard sometimes people
[1:27:25] Speaker 1: because I don't say anything. Oh, you think y'all, but
[1:27:27] Speaker 1: I don't. When you know me, I'm just real, you know,
[1:27:30] Speaker 1: I'm cordial. And so I said, you know, so there
[1:27:33] Speaker 1: was this party that I went to. I said, you
[1:27:36] Speaker 1: know what? You know, when I see somebody, you know,
[1:27:40] Speaker 1: that I respect and I like this stuff, I'm just
[1:27:41] Speaker 1: going to go up and tell them, hey, you know,
[1:27:43] Speaker 1: I really like your stuff. Yeah. And normally, I would
[1:27:49] Speaker 1: kind of just wait. And if I saw someone, they'd smile.
[1:27:51] Speaker 1: I'd say, oh, OK. We would talk. But if I
[1:27:53] Speaker 1: don't make eye contact with them, I wouldn't go up
[1:27:55] Speaker 1: to them. Because you never know in this game. You
[1:27:56] Speaker 1: just never know. Never know. And there was a rapper,
[1:28:00] Speaker 1: very popular rapper. So I saw him. So I just
[1:28:03] Speaker 1: went up to him. I walked up to him. Hey, man,
[1:28:05] Speaker 1: you know, bro, I really like you. You got some
[1:28:07] Speaker 1: good stuff. And he went, just like that. He didn't
[1:28:14] Speaker 1: even reply? Didn't reply. Wow. He just looked at me. Oh, man.
[1:28:21] Speaker 1: And looked away. I was like, okay. And this was
[1:28:26] Speaker 1: me trying to say, okay. You know what I'm saying?
[1:28:28] Speaker 1: Trying to break out my shell. Yeah. I'm like trying to,
[1:28:32] Speaker 1: you know. And so that happened then. And something that,
[1:28:36] Speaker 1: this happened about last year. I'm at the UFC. And
[1:28:41] Speaker 1: this is, so that was my thing where I just
[1:28:43] Speaker 1: want to make sure I make eye contact with somebody
[1:28:45] Speaker 1: before I at least say something. Before I say something because,
[1:28:48] Speaker 1: and listen, I respect this. And, you know, people can
[1:28:49] Speaker 1: be going through, it's not about me. They could be doing,
[1:28:51] Speaker 1: they'd be going through anything. And so I was at,
[1:28:55] Speaker 1: I went to a UFC fight. It was with CBS. And,
[1:28:58] Speaker 1: you know, we were all, Yeah, there's a whole bunch
[1:29:00] Speaker 1: of people from the shows are sitting in the aisle.
[1:29:04] Speaker 1: Someone comes up. He walks in. I see he's talking
[1:29:08] Speaker 1: to everybody. But I'm talking to my wife. I'm doing something.
[1:29:11] Speaker 1: I see him at the last minute. He's talking to everybody.
[1:29:13] Speaker 1: I see him come in, but I'm still talking to
[1:29:14] Speaker 1: my wife. And then he's talking to this person like
[1:29:17] Speaker 1: three wheels in front of me. And then he walks
[1:29:22] Speaker 1: by me. I'm like three seats away from the aisle.
[1:29:26] Speaker 1: So he doesn't walk by me, but he walks by
[1:29:28] Speaker 1: the aisle. Mm-hmm. And so I said, oh, that was
[1:29:30] Speaker 1: such and such. You know, I was a fan. I
[1:29:33] Speaker 1: should have said something. I was like, well, you need
[1:29:35] Speaker 1: to look at me. So I'm like, okay. I just
[1:29:37] Speaker 1: want to make sure because I'm right there. Because I
[1:29:39] Speaker 1: am right there. And if you see me, hey, what's up?
[1:29:42] Speaker 1: But hey, look. So then in the middle of rounds,
[1:29:46] Speaker 1: you know, you have the fights and you have the rounds.
[1:29:48] Speaker 1: In the middle of fights, not the rounds. So in
[1:29:50] Speaker 1: the break for the next fight, the person gets up.
[1:29:52] Speaker 1: He comes back to talk to that person again. Now,
[1:29:55] Speaker 1: I know he knows that I'm there. And, you know,
[1:29:58] Speaker 1: I'm a fan. So he's talking to the person, I'm
[1:30:00] Speaker 1: gonna look, and I'm not gonna interrupt this conversation, but
[1:30:03] Speaker 1: I'm looking over there to see what he's gonna say,
[1:30:05] Speaker 1: but he never looks my way. So I'm like, okay, okay,
[1:30:10] Speaker 1: no problem. Listen, I don't judge anybody. He's in a
[1:30:13] Speaker 1: conversation or whatever. So I just don't say anything. And then,
[1:30:19] Speaker 1: so it's me, my wife, and then another actor who's
[1:30:22] Speaker 1: not black sitting next to my wife. And so in
[1:30:26] Speaker 1: between another fight, The guy comes up again, talking to
[1:30:31] Speaker 1: the person who's just in that general area. I look
[1:30:34] Speaker 1: over there. Okay. I mean, he's not looking at me,
[1:30:39] Speaker 1: but he's there. Maybe I should say something, but I
[1:30:41] Speaker 1: don't know because I'm already pumping it because, you know,
[1:30:43] Speaker 1: what happened to me with that one rapper. I'm always
[1:30:45] Speaker 1: tentative now, you know? And sure enough, so I just
[1:30:50] Speaker 1: don't say anything. And me and my wife are just there,
[1:30:52] Speaker 1: just chilling, waiting for the rounds. And then he literally said,
[1:30:56] Speaker 1: What's up to the person that was sitting next to
[1:30:59] Speaker 1: my wife who was not black? And so I was like,
[1:31:03] Speaker 1: for sure he wants me to say something because this
[1:31:07] Speaker 1: person is not saying anything to him either. But he
[1:31:11] Speaker 1: sees me there and I know he knows me, but
[1:31:14] Speaker 1: he said something to that person. So after he said that,
[1:31:17] Speaker 1: I said, hey, what's up, such and such? He said, oh, yeah,
[1:31:21] Speaker 1: what's up, Maura? I was like, okay. Still, I don't judge.
[1:31:26] Speaker 1: So then, so literally, the very next morning, we get
[1:31:31] Speaker 1: on the flight to go back. I'm already sitting there.
[1:31:37] Speaker 1: I'm sitting next to my wife here. He comes on
[1:31:40] Speaker 1: the plane. And I'm like, okay, I'm, you know, look,
[1:31:44] Speaker 1: I'm just going to go up. I feel like almost 100%
[1:31:47] Speaker 1: sure that he only said what's up to that person
[1:31:50] Speaker 1: because he knew I was there and I didn't say
[1:31:52] Speaker 1: what's up to him. I feel 100% sure. So I said,
[1:31:55] Speaker 1: you know what? I see this person coming on the plane.
[1:32:00] Speaker 1: So he came out and looked at me, kept going
[1:32:05] Speaker 1: straight to his seat and sat down just like that.
[1:32:08] Speaker 1: And I was like, Okay, I guess you don't want
[1:32:11] Speaker 1: me to. I don't know. But, listen, I'm still a fan.
[1:32:14] Speaker 1: I'm still a fan. I'm still a fan. What are
[1:32:17] Speaker 1: you doing to the chestnut, man? I don't know. Look, man,
[1:32:21] Speaker 1: I don't know what that is. Because I never met
[1:32:25] Speaker 1: either one of them before, you know? Right. I never
[1:32:28] Speaker 1: met either one of them before. It was probably like
[1:32:31] Speaker 1: when I had that beef with you and I didn't
[1:32:32] Speaker 1: know you. You know what I'm saying? You would have
[1:32:36] Speaker 1: said what's up, though. You would have still said what's up, though.
[1:32:38] Speaker 1: I probably would have said what's up, but not with her.
[1:32:40] Speaker 1: Not if she was with me. You know what I'm saying?
[1:32:42] Speaker 1: I would have avoided you at all costs. And that's
[1:32:46] Speaker 1: the crazy part, bro, because you're so cool. You're such
[1:32:48] Speaker 1: a humble person. And I think that resonates even if
[1:32:53] Speaker 1: someone doesn't know you. 100%. Your aura is of someone
[1:32:57] Speaker 1: who is just a cool cat. You know what I'm saying? Like,
[1:33:00] Speaker 1: so I can't, that doesn't, that doesn't make sense to
[1:33:02] Speaker 1: me at all. Listen, I like to, I like to
[1:33:05] Speaker 1: think so. And listen, and I, and I'm the first
[1:33:08] Speaker 1: person in every situation, you know, I don't just assume
[1:33:12] Speaker 1: it's about me. Oh, you hating. I don't know. I
[1:33:14] Speaker 1: don't assume all that, you know, because, you know, they
[1:33:15] Speaker 1: could have been in a bad mood that day or
[1:33:17] Speaker 1: who knows. But, you know, I, Sometimes I do, things
[1:33:24] Speaker 1: have gotten back to me before when I am in
[1:33:26] Speaker 1: situations and just because I don't say anything, maybe people
[1:33:31] Speaker 1: take that a certain kind of way because both of them,
[1:33:36] Speaker 1: I'm sure both of them are used to people coming
[1:33:38] Speaker 1: up to them. Just right off the bat. I don't
[1:33:41] Speaker 1: understand the rapper. I don't know why he just looked
[1:33:44] Speaker 1: at me and looked away. I don't know, but yeah.
[1:33:47] Speaker 1: So I ain't saying no names, but that's what it was.
[1:33:50] Speaker 1: That's what it was. Well, that's wild. I don't like it.
[1:33:52] Speaker 1: I don't like it. I don't like it. Brother Morris Chestnut, man,
[1:33:59] Speaker 1: we thank you, brother. Absolutely. Thank you, man. You're etched
[1:34:04] Speaker 1: into our childhood, our livelihoods. And again, like I said
[1:34:10] Speaker 1: at the beginning, man, you're just an example, brother. Thank you.
[1:34:14] Speaker 1: You're just an example, man, of just being a dope
[1:34:16] Speaker 1: human being, being awesomely talented. having real values, real morals
[1:34:22] Speaker 1: still since day one. And we commend that, man. We
[1:34:25] Speaker 1: commend all of that. We commend the work. The continued success.
[1:34:29] Speaker 1: Thank you. Y'all got the liquor going. Yes, yes. We

[1:34:36] Speaker 1: Come on, man. Send it to the... Yeah, you're going
[1:34:39] Speaker 1: to need it. Sable Bourbon. Oh, yeah. I just took
[1:34:43] Speaker 1: it out the car. I'm going to bring it. I'll
[1:34:45] Speaker 1: bring you something by. You got any bourbon? You shipping?
[1:34:48] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[1:34:48] Speaker 1: Okay, okay, okay. It's our brother's bourbon, man. All right,
[1:34:52] Speaker 1: all right. All right, all right. I'll bring a bottle by.
[1:34:54] Speaker 1: I'll bring a bottle by. But yeah, man, we just...
