[0:00] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hi everyone, I'm Vincent Joe.
[0:01] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Hi, I'm Kathy Reed.
[0:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I'm Allison Reed.
[0:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hi, I'm Ashley.
[0:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hi, I'm Grace.
[0:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're from the Hidden House.
[0:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I am Martin Rettie.
[0:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hello everyone, how are you?
[0:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Thank you very much.
[0:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're going to see you tomorrow.
[0:15] \[SPEAKER_00\]: This week in Skatey.
[0:25] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Welcome to this week in Skating, the weekly podcast bringing you the latest news from the world of figure skating.
[0:31] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Bear your hosts, Daphne, Gina, and Mateo.
[0:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Welcome to another episode of This Week in Skating.
[0:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It is Gina and Mateo this week.
[0:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're giving Daphne a break, though she was just talking our ear off before we started recording.
[0:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So she doesn't really take a break per se.
[0:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She's still involved in this somehow.
[0:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We are all too passionate, and we try to keep away from it, but it's impossible.
[0:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right, and especially with the fact that we have the Olympic qualifier this week, the skate to Milano or whatever you want to call it, Chinese Neville Horn.
[1:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, we're seeing all different names for this event, but this is the big event that we've been waiting for pretty much since worlds engine in the spring, and then we had Lombardi atrophy, which I was watching this week.
[1:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know you were too Matteo.
[1:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And we don't have a JGP this week, but we did have one this past week, so it's just a lot going on, but it's not a busy week for sure.
[1:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, for sure.
[1:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we'll get started with some general skating news.
[1:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Unfortunately, we have to start with some sad news.
[1:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Austria figure skater, Julia Marie Geiser has died in a car crash in Selzberg.
[1:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The 23-year-old was riding her bike along a path when she was struck by a truck, turning right near an intersection.
[1:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She died at the scene.
[1:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Julia finished 7th at the 2025 Austria National Championships.
[2:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now,
[2:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Italy's Sarah Conti posted photos of her with Julia.
[2:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She posted an Italian and it was translated to there are no words just unbelievable pain.
[2:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I will never forget your smile.
[2:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You'll be in my heart forever.
[2:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Unfortunately, we had some more sad news today with Matilda Ferrari, a promising 15-year-old figure skater for Italy.
[2:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She was hit and killed by a truck today in Trento.
[2:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: she was crossing the street to get to her bus stop to get the bus for school when she was hit.
[2:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So some said news that we had to pass along both tragic accidents and so we are sending our thoughts in prayers to both skaters and their families as well as the skater skating community you know who knew these skaters very well.
[2:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yes, we hope not to hear news like these anymore because it's being quite a busy year when it comes to these news and it's not what we want to talk about But sadly, when these things happen, we just have to deal with this and as Gina said, we are sending our fourth employers to their families and friends And we are a community that is always strong together, so we'll We'll remember the skaters going forward
[3:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So moving on entries for the Denny's 10 Memorial have been announced.
[3:19] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's a Changer Series event for men, women and high stands.
[3:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So in the men, there's going to be Nika, a Gaze Mikhail Shazarov, Yuwan Chan, Jason Chan, Tarashinohara and other skaters, of course.
[3:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: In the women, we are also going to see Meddling Shizas, Hain Lee, Haisen, Yudon, and Yosefin Lee.
[3:37] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And in the dance, Alicia Fabian, Paul Ayer, Diana Davies, and Gleb Smokin.
[3:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Owen Brown and Gage Brown, and Leon Nessett and Arsim Markillof.
[3:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, Nika Velonan has received his German citizenship, so great news for him, and of course, Manerva, they will be able to compete at the Olympics.
[3:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yes, and it's going to be quite interesting.
[4:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: While we're going to talk about Sarah Kuntin, Nika Velonachi, later, but I cannot wait for the Paris event.
[4:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Anyway, talking about pairs, Lucretzo Vicariamatirgarisa have been assigned to skate America.
[4:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And we will talk about them in a little bit too, because we do have some news on them from Lombardia.
[4:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Luca Pursard has withdrawn from Skate Canada.
[4:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We are hearing that there is a possible injury there.
[4:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He still has another assignment in Finland.
[4:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're not sure if he will withdraw from that.
[4:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And finally, Haru Kakyuchi has been assigned to host sports at NHK Truffy.
[4:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, championship level, single session tickets are on sale for the US championships.
[4:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Jason Brown was in St.
[4:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Louis over the weekend promoting the event.
[4:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now in case you haven't seen the schedule, all four free skates will be split this year.
[4:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Friday, January 9th will be the pairs and women split and then Saturday, January 10th will be dance and men split.
[5:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know how deaf me and I feel about that, but that's how it is and we just have to go with it.
[5:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The senior events also start on Wednesday, January 7th, and End on Saturday, compared to Thursday, and Sunday, and we're going Thursday through Sunday.
[5:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But Sunday this year will be the Olympic team announcement and show.
[5:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So,
[5:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll have to see what that is, we haven't heard exactly what that is, but if you haven't gotten your tickets, we'll have a link in the show notes.
[5:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You say, it's probably going to be quite a show isn't it?
[5:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: To find out who's going to make your Olympics him.
[5:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But it's definitely.
[5:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Shall we move on to Lombardia Trophy which we mentioned quite a few times.
[5:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, so did we both buy the live streamer were you watching it?
[5:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So I didn't because I had quite a few things going on.
[5:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But I think you know these days it's quite easy to then find videos if most are skating that happens.
[5:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So I did watch this not life clearly,
[6:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I would have never known because I thought we were texting while it was going on and I thought you were watching it at the same time.
[6:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, I'm kind of following online and even when you follow online, it's almost like you can visualize what's happening and you feel like you're there.
[6:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you remembered that I was meant to go there, but I had to change my plans last minute because of too many commitments going on.
[6:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But I felt like I was there in Bergen when we'd all have done.
[6:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right, I know you wanted to be there, but yeah, I was watching most of the competition live.
[6:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I decided to buy the live stream.
[6:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think I bought the live stream the last few seasons for Lombardia.
[6:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So yeah, I want to share a couple little facts before we break.
[6:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: into the actual skating.
[6:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Team USA women and men both drew the same placement for the short program.
[6:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They posted about the coincidence on social media.
[6:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So Sarah Everhart was, um, she skated 6th in the short program, Alyssa Liu skated 7.
[7:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then Max Namaugh skated 6th in the short program
[7:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: skated seventh and they showed um they had a photo from the actual draw um which was kind of fun uh we learned a little bit about Lucritia Bakari and Mateo Grease um golden skate posted that they withdrew not for injury Lucritia told Goldman skate that Mateo just became a dad and I think we mentioned that on the podcast that he
[7:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: is a new father and he wanted some days off so they could so he could spend time with his new family so they will start their season in Nebelhorn.
[7:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So this is good news for them because we know they sat out last season with Lucritia having an injury so looking forward to seeing them in two weeks in Nebelhorn.
[8:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, Mateo, I want you to talk about this shot that you found online with Laranaki Gootman's water bottle.
[8:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yes, I had to take a photo because someone actually hit posted this water bottle with squid game on and why did I have to do that because we know that a certain host that is not here with us today is obsessed with that show.
[8:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you will remember that Lara skated on Squid Game last year in her show program, which was quite phenomenal.
[8:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And seeing the boss bottle there of course made a lot of people's smile and we had to share that with Daphne.
[8:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, she was very excited for that photo.
[8:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know if she'll get to see.
[8:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yes, she will get to see Lara Naki Gootman in Lake Pleasant.
[8:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now whether Lara will have that water bottle in Lake Pleasant remains to be seen.
[8:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Maybe we shall
[9:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: kind of message Laura and say, please bring that water bottle for a certain this week in skating host.
[9:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, but yeah, that was I liked seeing that photo in our chat.
[9:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, one thing when I was watching.
[9:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The metal ceremonies is I noticed the metalists did not receive metals.
[9:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They got a trophy and then there's big box And I'm like what's in the box?
[9:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so I was determined to figure out what was in the box So I messaged FSO's photographer Giata who was in Lombardia taking photos for figure skaters online and I said
[9:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What's in the box?
[9:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And she got me the answer.
[9:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The box was from Oficinia, Profumo, Pharmacutica.
[9:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Boy, I don't know how my Italian is.
[9:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I better practice my Italian.
[9:52] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Almost.
[9:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Mateo, I'm gonna need some lessons.
[9:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: My Italian teacher right now was gonna not be happy with me.
[9:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Look, I've activated for you.
[9:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oficinia, Profumo, Parma Céutica.
[10:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh.
[10:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, very good.
[10:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You did better.
[10:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I don't quite good.
[10:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I got out of the show.
[10:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[10:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, it contained in that box face cleansing water rose in a face cream and I'm guessing they were the sponsor of Lombardia because their logo was in the kissing cry.
[10:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So if you were watching and you saw that logo I'm guessing they were a sponsor.
[10:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So in case you were wondering what was in the box.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There you go.
[10:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were going home with some skin care
[10:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, we'll move on now to the men, and we'll start with the men.
[10:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We got to see Ilia Malinen's new programs for the first time, but no new costumes.
[10:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was wearing his...
[10:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: God, warm-ups.
[10:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He's told, I believe, golden-skate, that he hopes to have them for grand-pre-friends and that there's been a sizing issue.
[10:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So hopefully he gets that all taken care of and we can see those costumes in France.
[11:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, he had a 13-point lead after the short program.
[11:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like his short program.
[11:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just think it was some parts where a little bit sloppy in the step sequence, especially in the step sequence.
[11:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So just clean it up a little bit and I think it's a great program.
[11:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now in the free skate, Iliya had to go to the boards as they started playing the wrong music for his free skate.
[11:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were playing hummus free skate music.
[11:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: His free skate Iliya's free skate does include voiceovers and it is voiceovers of Iliya speaking and he says this program is very personal.
[11:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He says he tells his story.
[11:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, fans have been sharing their thoughts and feelings about his programs on social media and Ilya has been making social media posts in response to fans comments and I just basically want to say sometimes we don't necessarily like a program but maybe we need to see it a little bit more to really have
[12:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: you know, a thought or a feeling on it.
[12:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And this was the first time we're seeing this program.
[12:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, you know, fans, it's, I know we all have opinions and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but sometimes, you know, for skaters, especially if it feels like it's a personal program, they may, you know, find that it's hard to hear some negative responses about that program.
[12:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you're absolutely right because it's the start of the season, but it's still in big season as well.
[12:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So put yourself in Elias shoes.
[12:37] \[SPEAKER_01\]: He's coming out with a program, as you said, it is quite personal to him.
[12:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And he brings his heart and soul to the eyes, skating that program.
[12:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Let's give him time to see what that will develop into because that's exactly what we always see every season.
[12:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There are programs that are ready from the start.
[12:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: programs that develop throughout the seasons and so it programs that mature at the end of the season and I'm very often you will remember we the three of us say oh we wish that I can keep the program for the new season because it's only blossomed at the end of the season so it's always a process that we have to trust and we have to support the skaters
[13:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And if you don't like something, you don't have to look to watch it.
[13:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Just skip it.
[13:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I think.
[13:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right.
[13:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We all are not going to like every program a skater does.
[13:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We all have different tastes and we all like different things.
[13:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we're never always going to like a program by a skater.
[13:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But moving on from that part, we'll actually talk about what he did out there on the ice.
[13:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Iliya landed four quads, no quads, so but he did a quad-zalkow and triple-esque soul sequence that earned 21 points alone.
[13:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He won the event by more than 20 points, winning his second consecutive gold at Lombardia.
[13:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, Ciata shared that when he skated, the entire arena was full of people and you could barely walk.
[13:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's a small arena to begin with so you can just imagine that there was a lot of people there wanting to see Ilya Now you Makageama who was in second after the short program had a solid free skate and here's a program that
[14:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think we're just going to keep seeing it develop throughout the season where, by the time we are in Milan, are going to say this is going to be a masterpiece.
[14:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's already showing that, and I am already loving this program, and I've only seen it.
[14:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: twice, you know, via, via, via, you know, a video.
[14:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I look forward to seeing it in person.
[14:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, human landed two quad jumps, though his quad total loop was called on the quarter, and he received a negative GOE for his triple axle.
[14:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So he won, the silver, his second consecutive silver medal at Lombardia trophy.
[14:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, I know Mateo saw this program.
[14:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I have to go back and see it.
[14:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Nikolai Memalov, Italy who was in fourth after the short program took the bronze medal.
[15:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He landed a quad lutz in his free skate.
[15:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He is looking really good right now.
[15:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So,
[15:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: congrats to Nikolai for taking a medal in his home country Shansato who was in who sat in eighth after the short program had the fourth best free skate to move up to fourth overall.
[15:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now Adam C. Ho-Himfa had three falls in the free skate but finished fifth overall.
[15:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This was the first time we were seeing his programs because he debuted them at French masters but as we told you the live show got stopped.
[15:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: when Adam skated.
[15:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we never got to see the program.
[15:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So this was the first time we got to see them.
[15:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Calmira, who was in third after the short program struggled in the free skate, he finished 10th in the segment to finish 6 overall.
[15:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Max Namov competed for the first time since he lost his parent's slash coaches in January.
[15:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He finished in 9th place.
[16:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Right, that was very interesting, wasn't it?
[16:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And almost the pre-element peak, skating itself.
[16:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But let's move on with the women's field.
[16:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So you will have seen a required a few things happening between the shorts and the free skates.
[16:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So in the short program, Alisa, you actually see what's quite a funny, she fell going out to skate for luckily, and she just stood up again.
[16:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And she started the program with her opening pose.
[16:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: she just left and continued.
[16:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So it was a back-loaded short program.
[16:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She had a creepy-loaded, creepy-loaded, creepy-loaded at the end.
[16:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That was underratated and step-out.
[16:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And she said that this program, this short program, is a sequel to last year's short program, and it has the same feel.
[16:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Obviously, as well, getting to the same RCS, Lofi.
[16:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She ended up in first place after the short program.
[16:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Sarah Everhardt has added the tripologues and tripologues combination to her program keeping last year's revered ends and she used to do the tripologues tripologues last year so she was actually second after Alyssa Liu and in third place we had Jephan Zvioren Semioshi which actually ended up winning the free skate and winning the entire event
[17:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So that was she actually managed to deliver quite a beautiful pre-programmed there.
[17:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She attended the co-toleup but it was downgraded and let's remember that she's getting to the same free skate that she had last year.
[17:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So let's see how she will be able to present these throughout the season with the big jumps that she's also got in there.
[17:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Amina Kayov-Japan was in her first senior season and she took home the silver medal with a personal best free skate and total score.
[17:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So she was in fifth place after a short program, but she skated beautiful free skate to a cover off it's a wonderful world and she tried to attend a triple axel but fell on it.
[17:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Sarah, Everhard, ended up winning the bronze medal.
[17:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She's actually skating to poor things, which I find really good Eugene as well, liked it very much.
[18:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It allows her to be a bit more expressive because that's something that she needs to work on.
[18:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She only stepped out of the people's South Korea, but otherwise the program was quite well presented.
[18:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I actually liked the attention to detail in the program as well.
[18:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I'm not quite sure whether you watched the movie, but the dress that she had,
[18:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Reminds of one of the dresses that Emma Stone has in the movie so the attention to detail is there and I personally quite enjoyed it Yeah, I enjoyed it too.
[18:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I have not seen the movie.
[18:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I was wondering what the dress You know resembled but I think you told us in our chat um about it, but yeah, I think it
[18:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: a lot of detail with this program and again it is allowing her to kind of be like a character and be a little bit more expressive.
[18:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I look forward to seeing it as it develops this season.
[18:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: exactly and it's going to be quite a bustle in the U.S.
[18:54] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Women's Field isn't it?
[18:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: There's so many good skaters.
[18:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For sure, I think I texted and said can we send four to the Olympics?
[19:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Exactly.
[19:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Talking about U.S.
[19:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: skaters, so we said at least I knew it was first after the short program in the free skates you should have been at her Lady Gaga program.
[19:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: which we know Daphne is going to like because it does have a darker feel to it and we are ready to set that address is absolutely spot on for Alyssa.
[19:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She had a triple-loots triple-toll of combination that was under-resated and she dabbled her second triple-loots into dabbled, so she finished the skating fifth place and unfortunately she dropped out of the pod you
[19:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: While the show program was strong, the free program looked like it was still rather new for Alyssa and it's as we said before, though, it's the start of the season, so she's got time to work on it.
[19:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She already said that she's got work to do it, so we are sure that she will come back strong because we know Alyssa really well, she's a fighter and she's also someone that has enjoyed enjoying skating, so I don't think that she's going to be let down by dropping out of the podium at Lombardia traffic.
[20:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Let's mention the one with creative programs.
[20:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So we talked about her voice a bottle, but Laura Nakikutman, obviously, the building her Jo's program, which is fantastic.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's so original.
[20:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is it good?
[20:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh my gosh.
[20:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think we all liked it.
[20:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Daphne included, Daphne shared it on her Facebook page.
[20:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's how much Daphne liked it.
[20:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So yeah, it's a good program.
[20:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Again, the attention to detail as well is amazing, isn't it?
[20:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because it starts with her playing the shark role, basically.
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And at some point, if you look at the spins, she's got the arm bent, almost as if it were a fin of a shark, that is sheeps into more of a notion, you know, let's say less threatening music.
[20:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And did you notice that at the end, she's on the eyes in a certain pose, any media, she has said she looks like the mermaid in Copenhagen, you know the famous Satchi.
[20:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: because that's exactly the final pose, so I thought the program was so cleverly built and I cannot wait to see it in person.
[21:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Let's not forget as well, she's getting really well, didn't she?
[21:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because she had a score that was quite high and she's a skater that has got so much potential.
[21:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I want to see what happens at Euro's these year because there are so many good skaters, but definitely she's there in the rankings now to push for a medal.
[21:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So let's see.
[21:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: well let's move on to pairs and I just want to remind people pairs was not part of the challenge or event it was just an international competition so that means scores did not count as I issue personal best so again just a reminder because people were saying oh they had you know a really good score they got a new personal best no they didn't because it didn't count but in the
[21:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Boy did Sarah Conti and Nicoloma cheese show.
[21:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They are ready and well-prepared trained.
[22:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were the leaders after the short program, and I think we texted and said, wow, like just wow.
[22:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like they're ready.
[22:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, and you know, if they skate like they did, um, this weekend, especially after that short program, I would say there could be fighting for a medal at the Olympics.
[22:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For sure.
[22:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: In the free skate, they almost went clean, they had trouble with the exit of the final lift.
[22:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I saw it right away, I was like, oh, Nikola, what's happening there?
[22:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But they won the event single handed by more than 27 points.
[22:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Rebecca Jolardi and Filippo Ambracini were second in all segments, a little bit of trouble with some of the side by side jumps in the throws in both programs, but they easily were the second place team.
[22:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The new Czech Republic team of Anna Valese who previously skated with Manuel Piazza of Italy and Martin Bedar who previously skated with Anna Duskova were third.
[23:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This was only the second event of their partnership, and they will compete this week at the qualifier, hoping to get a spot for the Czech Republic.
[23:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I have to say, I did watch the metal ceremony for this event, of course they were playing the Italian National Anthem, and Anna, who is...
[23:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: from Italy, all of them, all three, so the Sarah and Niccolo and Rebecca and Felipo and Anna were all singing the Italian National Anthem, even though Anna skates now for the Jack Republic, I found that very cute, so.
[23:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You can not keep the Italian away from me so they can you.
[23:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We know that from a certain someone who's hosting the show,
[23:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Anyway, let's move on to that.
[23:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Definitely hopefully we'll get to talk about dance and staffs out here.
[23:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I know.
[23:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's actually, I have to say, of course, the Ice Dance is Daphne's territory.
[24:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I'll work with Daphne and Ice Dance.com as well.
[24:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So I'm glad for what's to be able to lead on these.
[24:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So let's start.
[24:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: For the first time since 2016, we have a new Ice Dance winner at Lombardia Trophy.
[24:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: and it's also the first time since the start of the firmware, you are roughly at the winner at the ice density vent is not from Italy, and then look at the fact that the 2015 edition and there was no ice density vent prior to that.
[24:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So after the redum then there were only 0.39 points.
[24:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Separating calorie number, ask when done in Razzic, and ever paid a logon by, who both skated to Thunderstruck and skated back to Bag, so that was quite interesting.
[24:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Cuttering up both calls and stealing, and to me, try to ask you where in third, with big costumes for the Bag Street Boys, there were quite a regional costumes, where in day.
[24:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But let's look at the freedom.
[24:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So Katarina and Daniel's freedom is a flamingo, skating to Malagenia, so it's a music that we've seen a few times before in Iceland.
[25:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Katarina, Maskova has a very long red skirt that's a bit distracting in a way, depending on how you like it or not.
[25:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But it's something that she actually knows quite well, because she has an equally long skirt in their last senior junior skaters, I remember in their rhythm dance.
[25:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I went back to church, she had a full dress back then, well now she's got a red skirt and a black top, if I remember well.
[25:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, yeah, and it was a little, it made me nervous, especially in the choreographic slide where he picks her up by the skate and the skirts go in everywhere.
[25:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know these skaters are pro with these long skirts, but someone watching at home gets a little nervous that it's gonna get caught in the skate, and they're gonna fall and get hurt, so.
[25:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Let's see, they run dramatically.
[25:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: They handle that, yes.
[25:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So, the score to a while for them to come up on the screen, but there were 30 in the free skate and finished second overall.
[26:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Our unready looks into the protocols, and so that they only did two choreographic elements and they lost a lot of points on the choreographic character step sequence, and did three short leaps instead of a combo.
[26:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: the winner of the event where ever paid and look and buy, this is the second time that the winner at a Challenger event, they won autumn classics in 2023.
[26:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Do you know what do you think of their Lion King?
[26:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Do you like it as much as I do?
[26:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, so I think where a Daphne loves it too.
[26:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Daphne told me in like plus, as you know, you're gonna like this Lion King free dance and I was bummed that I didn't get to see it in person.
[26:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think that was the first thing I texted to Daphne, Daphne after they skated us and oh my god, I love this Lion King program.
[26:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, especially, I think I have noticed, and I don't know about anybody else, but I think they do their character step sequence along the long end of the boards.
[26:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So they're going instead of right in front of the judges, I think they go the long end.
[27:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not 100% sure I have to watch it again, and this is the first time I really got to see it, other than a fancam on from late-classed.
[27:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: think that is the case, which you don't usually see, you usually see the character step sequence kind of going in front, you know, of the judges.
[27:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I'll have to pay attention for that again, but I do love this program.
[27:28] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, it's so beautiful.
[27:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It really suits them completely, I think.
[27:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: In third place and other American team, so we mentioned before a Catarina will constrain and Dmitriy Sereski, they finished second overall in the freedoms, but remained in third place within the bronze medal.
[27:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Just quickly mentioning Natasha Lagush and Odno Kaffar France, finished him.
[27:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: for plays followed by Victoria Manion Carlos Ruffley's Berger of Italy in fifth place and there's something interesting that happened to an Italian team there so Julia Paulina and Andrea too but with with through after the freedoms and they're actually going to be a qualifier this week so we're still not quite sure why that happened we found out that they were at the practice, freedom's practice in the morning but then they withdrew from the bend and yeah we are
[28:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Curious now, they're still leased it to go to the qualifier event, but hopefully we'll find something out because we don't know Yeah, we'll just have to wait and see what happens
[28:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, I think we did a good job recapping Lombardia.
[28:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Let's move on to the Junior Grand Prix in Bangkok.
[28:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll start with the men.
[28:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It was nice to see 2010 Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysechak awarding the medals to the men and I standsers.
[28:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, his wife is from Thailand.
[28:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I believe he also hosted the US team at a dinner after the event as well.
[28:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I saw some photos on social media.
[28:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: While the winner of the men's event was Rio Nikata of Japan, this is his second gold medal of the season so he has qualified for the Junior Grand Prix final.
[29:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Silver went to Team USA's Patrick Blackwell, he landed two quads in two triple axles in his free skate, which was a tribute to his friend Spencer Lane, who we lost in the DC plane crash.
[29:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He posted that he will be competing at the Junior Grand Prix in Azerbaijan, so he's looking to try to qualify for the JGP final.
[29:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And bronze went to New Zealand, Jan Howley, so that is a quick recap of the men's event.
[29:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Looking at the women, gold went to Japan's Mao Shimada, so she hasn't lost a competition at the Junior level since 2020.
[29:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's wow, and she's still a junior, which is crazy.
[29:52] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Exactly.
[29:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So in the free skate, she attended a quad tour, but fell and under her say it is, and she also under her say it at her triple axel.
[30:01] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But overall, she finished in first place.
[30:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Actually, it's got a few points margin where normally you see quite a large points margin between Maori and the second one.
[30:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She will then compete at the final Junior Grand Prix event in the last action in Junior Grand Prix event in the United Arab Emirates So hopefully she will qualify again to the final as usual and we will see what she will be doing there in silver position Where there was another Japanese cater may Okada This is her second medal this season after winning gold in Rika and in bronze Jionggyul Wang of Korea This is her first Junior Grand Prix medal
[30:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We also want to mention Hannah Buff of Australia, who finished in fourth place.
[30:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She landed two triple axles, but accidentally did four combinations.
[30:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So the final one was invalidated and she is the first Australian woman to land a triple axle.
[30:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[30:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: To do four combinations, you don't realize that the next one gets invalid.
[30:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They did, oh my gosh.
[30:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[30:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: While moving on to pairs, this is the second to last pairs of
[31:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And gold went to China's Ru Go and Yuan Zang with their second, this was their second Junior Grand Prix medal this season, they got silver and inkara, they have qualified for the Junior Grand Prix final.
[31:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Silver went to Jasmine D'Rosers in Kieran and Thrasher of Canada, and bronze went to Sophia Jarmic and Luke Wattowski of the United States, this is their first JGP medal.
[31:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were eighth and in Kara a few weeks ago.
[31:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're coached by 2024 Olympic team bronze medalists, sign mission up here.
[31:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Regan Moss and Jacob Gavalvi deserve a shout out for their fourth place finish.
[31:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now this team has competed three weeks in a row.
[31:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They competed at JGP in Kara, then John Nixon and now in Bangkok.
[31:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So three different countries, two, with three different time zones, so props to them, and their coaching team, Trudy Altman's, but they finished fourth, and that is just crazy.
[32:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You've been competing for three weeks, and you're not just talking going from one city to another, work-talking countries, that with different time zones, just crazy, crazy, so props to them.
[32:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Now, moving on to Iceland, gold was won by the American team of Hanamaria Avoyan and Daniel Veselukin.
[32:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: This is their first Junior Grand Prix gold medal.
[32:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Silver and bronze actually repissed the result in Ankara for the other Junior Grand Prix.
[32:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So in silver position, we had Charlie Anderson and Kaiden Dozen of Canada and in bronze medal position, Lia Yan and Louis Vargasorn of France.
[32:51] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So this is everything for the Junior Grand Prix.
[32:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: As we said, remember that there's no Junior Grand Prix this week.
[32:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But let's move on to King quickly about 25 national solo dance final.
[33:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: In the senior category, Gold went to Brooke, Tavz, who won her first national championship.
[33:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She's won Gold in 2021 and 2023 and Silver in 2022 and 2024.
[33:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Brooke, actually posted on Instagram that she's doing one more competition at the international level and then she will be moving to the other side of the board.
[33:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So we're very sorry and said to hear that but happy that we could witness all that she could deliver for solid ends and we are sure that she will still continue to advocate for the discipline.
[33:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: In silver medal position, Amal Israilova, she also competed in the International Solo Pasterndense event and won gold for the second year in a row.
[33:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: In bronze medal position, Lucas Apelle, this is his first bronze medal after winning two golds and a silver-dlessed three years.
[33:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: The future medal went to Dessie Ho-Wing Mosley, who won the Junior title last year.
[33:56] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Now, in the junior field, Gold went to Violet Jan, silver to Evan Bird's bronze to Marlin McCoy sprung and putter to Jessica Burns.
[34:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, you can check our show notes for the Colorado Springs invitation, the NQS and non-qualifying event, as well as the carousel classic NQS and non-qualifying event.
[34:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, moving on to upcoming events for the week, I think we already mentioned this, but did you know that it's the skate to Milano, Chinese, Nebelhorn, Olympic qualifier, whatever you want to call it.
[34:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: In Beijing, China, there are five Olympic spots to be awarded in the men's event, 27 competitors competing in that event.
[34:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: In the women's event, five Olympic spots to be awarded, 25 competitors competing, pairs only three spots, but 11 teams competing.
[34:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: dance.
[34:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There are four spots and 19 teams competing.
[35:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now as a reminder, there will be individual neutral athletes looking to get a spot to women in two men, none in the pairs and the dance event.
[35:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, a couple other things to note, as you're watching this Olympic qualifier, for the men, France is looking for a third spot.
[35:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For in Swapano, we'll compete for that spot.
[35:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Korea and Kazakhstan are also looking for a second spot.
[35:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For the women, we are going to get to see Luna Hendrix.
[35:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She is competing to try to get the second spot for Belgium.
[35:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Estonia is also looking for a second spot.
[35:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And Estasia Gabonava is also competing to get a spot for Georgia after she failed to make the free-skated worlds and did not qualify a spot at world.
[35:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, some big names competing in the women's event trying to get some spots there.
[35:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: For pairs, Team USA is looking for the third pair spot in Audrey Shin and Belage Nage will compete for it.
[36:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Japan is also looking for a second spot.
[36:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: In dance, Ellison Reed and Solius Ambrouvicius are looking for a spot after not being able to get a spot at worlds.
[36:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Keep in our fingers crossed for them, especially after she got her citizenship, so she is able to compete at the Olympics for Lithuania, but we have to hope they get that spot.
[36:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Italy, Spain, and Georgia are looking for a second spot.
[36:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: With pairs and dance, there could be a spot available closer to the Olympics, as there are rumors for pairs that a pairs team that already qualified a spot has split.
[36:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: This country also had the possibility of earning a second spot, but they're not sending another team to the qualifier So we'll have to wait and see what happens with this spot.
[36:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's also the citizenship status with the dance team Yuka or Yara and you know, Perrinan
[37:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're not giving up the spot just yet and they're trying to get Yuka citizenship in time So will you just have to wait and see basically you haven't told January to give up your spot if you're not going to use it So we could be finding out teams are going to the Olympics, you know a month before So there is a live stream
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: for the qualifier.
[37:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's heard it's going to be available for everybody via YouTube and I believe some hosts who usually do the Junior Grand Prix and since there's not a Junior Grand Prix this week, we'll be the commentator.
[37:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we might be hearing from our Can Ready and Ted Burton.
[37:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: this weekend.
[37:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we will definitely all three of us will be on the podcast next week to chat about the Olympic qualifier.
[37:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, that is the big event happening this week.
[38:00] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We're also going to have links in our show notes for Syvanya Jorgia Tia, which is going to take place in Quebec, make for food for classics, which is a Nankue as in Minnesota, challenge cap final NQS for dense in Pennsylvania and skate Cleveland, which is a Nankue as in
[38:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So moving on to online updates and articles, I'm just gonna mention, we have a few articles with a number of different skaters.
[38:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're just gonna put them all in our show notes.
[38:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We went a little long with our recaps, so we're not gonna keep you any longer, talking about articles, just check them out.
[38:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, there's an article with Max Nama, Patrick Blackwell, Uno Engage Browns, our wood, Alex Lapski, just go and check them all out in our show notes.
[38:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So we made it, Tina.
[38:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We didn't.
[38:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We didn't.
[38:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I know, we did.
[38:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I didn't want to go any longer with our online updates.
[38:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I'm just like, hey, people, go check them out in our show.
[38:55] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We've got to do it sometimes, though, isn't it?
[38:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because it's good to talk about events and we can just lose ourselves, chatting forever and ever, but we have to draw the podcast to an end.
[39:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And as you know, we always do that by talking about our social medias.
[39:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So, starting with this Recon skating, don't forget to check our merchandise available in our work page.
[39:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: As always, I'm here recording with my tweets mark, which is fantastic and I love it.

[39:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, over at FSO, I'm continuing the new pairs team series, and I posted last week a feature on US Junior Team Gabrielle Kaplan and Carter Griffin.
[39:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I will have the fourth feature in this new pairs team series coming on Wednesday this week.
[39:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, as we mentioned, Giyada, Giyada was taking photos for me at Lombardia Trophy, so all her photos are online.
[40:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I posted the latest in Scott's Legend series with Alyssa Sysney today, so that is up online.
[40:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I will have coverage in photos from the Olympic qualifier this week as well.
[40:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Right, I think we are fading to you.
[40:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think we're ready for the Olympic Wall of Fire.
[40:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I think so too.
