## Transcript

[0:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Five, my name is Gabrielle Delman and you're listening to This Week in Skating.
[0:20] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Welcome to This Week in Skating, the weekly podcast bringing you the latest news from the world of figure skating.
[0:26] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Here are your hosts, Daphne, Gina, and Mateo.
[0:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Today's guest is an Olympic gold medalist, world bronze medalist in a two-time Canadian national champion.
[0:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: After the twenty-eight-teen Olympics, our guest took a break from skating to focus on her mental health.
[0:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: After she returned to skating, she dealt with numerous injuries that impacted her results.
[0:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But at the end of June, she competed in her first competition, wrote more open, six months after ankle surgery, and she will compete in a few weeks at the Philadelphia Summer Championships.
[0:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we are excited to welcome Gabby Dalman to this weekend skating.
[1:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hi, Gabby.
[1:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm so glad you are here.
[1:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Hi, thank you so much for having me.
[1:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, when I saw the results of the broadmore open, I said, Gabby's gonna come back here and I told her before we started recording that we might have like good luck coming on this podcast because we brought
[1:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Alyssa Lu on the podcast when she announced she was coming back and then she became a world champion.
[1:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So Gabby, I'm hoping that's going to continue for you this season.
[1:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Please, I wait.
[1:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I welcome all the live, all the good vibes, everything.
[1:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So can you give us an update on where you kind of are right now?
[1:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Are you training in Colorado Springs?
[1:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I am training in Colorado Springs.
[1:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was more of, hey, let's try it out for the summer because especially after my first surgery, I knew on the really hard days where I need to be motivated because I might be in pain or just like not having a great day because I've had a lot of setbacks that I need to be somewhere where like I always felt like I had to be on and I always felt like I needed to be good to feel like
[2:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: there and I need to be somewhere there's always triple triples and just the pace is moving fast.
[2:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it helped that I've known Amber for thirteen going on fourteen years.
[2:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so I was like, you know what, this might be a perfect chain of change of scenery and just the perfect opportunity and just have a friend there to be pushed and have someone who has the same goal.
[2:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And we made the decision a few weeks ago that I will be here most of the year leading up to the Olympic season.
[2:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So who are you working with in Colorado Springs?
[2:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So my head coach is still on my behalf, back in Canada, and then I work with Tammy and David in Colorado, so they are also going out in front of my coaching team.
[2:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So what's it like training in altitude?
[2:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like that's a question you always have to ask me.
[2:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, you can't be out of shape, which is another thing I love here because, yeah, you have to be in shape.
[3:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Otherwise, you're like, I still gasped for air.
[3:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let's put it that way.
[3:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[3:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So it's almost like double training for years and it.
[3:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[3:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I remember my first two weeks here.
[3:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was struggling to breathe and everyone's like just drink water and I was like, no, no, I need like oxygen.
[3:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like someone get me like an oxygen mask.
[3:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like I've seen that at competitions, oxygen masks.
[3:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's that's crazy.
[3:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was a thing when four continents was here and had.
[3:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[3:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Didn't be that one.
[3:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And honestly, that's fine.
[3:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I remember seeing that and be like, oh, no.
[3:43] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So we don't the work here doing.
[3:44] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You got your programs already.
[3:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And who choreographed them for you?
[3:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So my short is done by Keaton Weaver.
[3:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And my long is done by Lauren Echo.
[3:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, great.
[3:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[3:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're not going to share what they are yet.
[4:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My short is to pink.
[4:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm here.
[4:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's also it's a very fast pace fun upbeat program.
[4:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I really resonated with me because it was like I've already one of the lyrics says I've already seen the bottom.
[4:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So there's nothing to fear because I've been at the very top and with all the injuries I've been at rock bottom.
[4:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then after my second surgery, I was like, oh, rock bottom has a basement.
[4:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's cool.
[4:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it was like very resonated with me.
[4:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then my long I don't like repeated this about a handful of times.
[4:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I went back to Samson and Delilah.
[4:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was a crowd favorite.
[4:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I loved it.
[4:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And never got it to moment because I only competed it about three times three four times.
[4:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, you know what, I think we should go back to this and where it was like, I love that.
[4:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I went back to Samsung Delilah for my long.
[4:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, good.
[4:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's a good choice.
[4:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What did it mean to you to compete following your recent surgery?
[5:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We're going to talk about the injuries and how you just keep coming back.
[5:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I mean, you were six months after your most recent surgery that you competed.
[5:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So what did it mean to get back on the ice and to have that first competition?
[5:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Even if it was just competing that short program.
[5:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It meant a lot.
[5:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was a long time coming, and especially, it only been six months in surgery, like, really, and it had a walk, a skate jump, changed training locations, altitude, like, there were a lot of factors, but I just knew I needed to get out there.
[5:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And that wasn't the program.
[5:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, we didn't do the triple flip.
[5:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We didn't, like, fine tune everything.
[5:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: In a way, but I was like, you know what, I need to get the toe toe out.
[5:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I need to like, just get back out there.
[5:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's been about two and a half years since I've really competed.
[5:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was like, I need to line up a lot of summer competitions.
[5:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Make sure I'm ready.
[5:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So competing up broad, more getting a short out there.
[5:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That early in June, I don't think I've ever competed that early.
[6:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If I'm being honest, there was parole.
[6:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But it was like, okay, this is where I'm at.
[6:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's a very good starting point.
[6:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let's build from here.
[6:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And if you already got any goals for the coming season, because we know for instance, Cape Canada International has got a TBC spot.
[6:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So... Question mark.
[6:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, I'm in the dark, but it's definitely a goal.
[6:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's definitely something that I would love to work towards and hopefully prove that I can be honored enough to have that spot and get back on the ground free circuit after two and a half years.
[6:41] \[UNKNOWN\]: Yeah.
[6:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now you're going to do both programs in Philadelphia when you compete.
[6:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes, I will.
[6:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[6:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What's next after Philadelphia?
[6:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, you're saying this is really early.
[6:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Are you going to then kind of slowly take a break?
[6:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I mean, no, no break.
[6:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I can be in Philadelphia.
[6:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Then I have a week off.
[7:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then I fly home, August, eleven.
[7:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I compete at the summer skate in Waterloo that weekend.
[7:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then from there, we're just this season.
[7:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's just going to be
[7:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: How many times can I get out, really get going?
[7:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I said, it's been two and a half years.
[7:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I haven't done nationals in three years, so it's like, okay, try to get out as many times as you can.
[7:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes, it's a long season, but I need to get that feeling back.
[7:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, you said you haven't competed in two and a half years, three years for a national.
[7:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I do, as summer competition each year, but it's not like doing fine.
[7:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[7:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I'm getting re-injured.
[7:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, did my first summer competition?
[7:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: tour on my ligaments did the same summer competition two weeks later broke my ankle the same one.
[7:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it was like need to get it moving again.
[7:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, like I was gonna ask you just about these injuries that you've had.
[7:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, you just have had one after another.
[7:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like you feel like you're back and then you're something else's caused you to be out again.
[8:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Can you just kind of fill us in on this like road to recovery that you've had to kind of go through with injury after injury after injury?
[8:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I mean, my first one.
[8:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Um, was I was in a car accident on my way to training back in twenty twenty two.
[8:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And that took a real hit on me.
[8:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I got sidesteped on the four one in Toronto and just was working through, but then I got to a point where my sports doctor was just like, you got to get pulled off the ice like you need time to recover because I was just pushing.
[8:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then got back into training was feeling good.
[8:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Was competition ready and
[8:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The last jump in my long, which happened via combo were a jump sequence.
[8:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Just slipped off a takeoff edge and opened up in the air and just landed on the ankle wrong and ended up tearing everything in it.
[9:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I don't know how I finished that program.
[9:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Does I remember stepping on that ankle and I was like, oh, I can't put any weight.
[9:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I still have three elements left.
[9:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, just finished, just finished.
[9:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So then found out, okay, if you want to get back on the Xbox,
[9:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Surgery is the best way to go.
[9:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We need to like get that ankle supported, get those tight ropes in.
[9:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[9:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Surgery went bad.
[9:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Surgery ended up leaving the surgery with like two fractures because the tight ropes snapped.
[9:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, oh my God.
[9:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't think after my first surgery, I had stepped in a gym or on the ice in about six months.
[9:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I ended up getting severely depressed.
[9:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was so
[9:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't know where my skating was.
[9:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was telling my parents I don't know what to do.
[9:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, this injury is going to make a break me.
[9:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm either going to come back, the strongest I've ever been, or it's going to be my breaking point.
[9:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I got back.
[9:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We kept the hardware in.
[9:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was training and things were kind of back, but I was still on some pain from the hardware because of my boot.
[10:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It kept rubbing against the hardware.
[10:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Compete it, summer skate, got it done, was like okay, that was great stepping point, let's move on.
[10:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I just happened to each later, did a clean short, did a clean long, was warming up for my second long of the day, slipped off a loop tape off.
[10:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then I looked at my coach, I kind of laughed for sex, I was like, oh, I just did that.
[10:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then you just see my face go like blank.
[10:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was like, oh no, I just think like I broke my go like something's wrong.
[10:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And mom of all, I had fractured my ankle again.
[10:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And they were like, the hard we're needed to come out because right where fractured it was right where the hardware ended.
[10:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, hey, what?
[10:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm not going to be able to do the rest of the season.
[10:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It really sucks, but my main focus is on a big year.
[10:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So let's take the hardware out and like really work on my mental and get ready for when it comes off.
[11:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So this time after surgery, I think I was in the gym.
[11:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Sorry, I'm just asking double-triggered, but I think it was in the gym like a week after my surgery, even with a soft cast on.
[11:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I was like, okay, it's go time.
[11:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like we rested.
[11:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We're still in the soft cast.
[11:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like you can't put weight on it, but like start doing some upper body.
[11:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Start.
[11:26] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Still for them.
[11:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: What do you do?
[11:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I still have three limbs as my dad said.
[11:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, I need to, I need to get going.
[11:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And yeah, I.
[11:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Mentally and physically feel like I did in twenty seventeen twenty eighteen and I've just been working and I have my vision boards I have my posters of my goals and what I need to do and what I need to get done and just the visualization and and the change of like training environment to really push me and yeah I honestly can't say I have felt like this since twenty seventeen twenty eighteen
[12:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: just hearing you tell every thing.
[12:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's what you went through.
[12:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[12:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And to top it all off, like, it's my landing ankle for a lot of people that don't know, like, I not only land on it.
[12:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's my loop flip and let's take off.
[12:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, it takes a lot of beating.
[12:24] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[12:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Did you actually ever want you to give up and move on from skating?
[12:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because you went through so much, but did that forever come into your head and be so strong for you to almost listen to it?
[12:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, after my first surgery, I think when I first got back on the ice from about end of April to mid-June,
[12:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was pretty much crying every single day.
[12:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was in pain.
[12:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was rebuilding muscle because the worst thing after surgery is rebuilding all the muscle you lost and especially when it's my Laney foot.
[13:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So like rebuilding muscle I wasn't able to walk on it for some days because like my muscles were just like so tight and tense and I literally said to my parents like
[13:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Every other day I was like, I was like, this is like, I'm getting close to my breaking point.
[13:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm getting close to getting close.
[13:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I always knew in the back of my mind, I was like, would imagine how much stronger you're gonna be if you come back from this.
[13:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you are so tough.
[13:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, pain is pain is only temporary.
[13:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, you're gonna get through it.
[13:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You're gonna get through it.
[13:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But no, there were days where I was like, I don't know if I can do this.
[13:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, but I just have a great support system and everyone was like,
[13:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, it's gonna suck, but you can do it.
[13:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You can do it.
[13:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And that's what truly helped me.
[13:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I was gonna say you've shown a lot of resilience and determination through these past couple of seasons where you've had these injuries.
[13:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And where do you think that comes from?
[13:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Where do you use that resilience and that determination come from?
[13:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think it definitely comes from both my parents, but also when I was a little girl, I'm very hedged, strong, I'm not gonna lie.
[14:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was eight years old when I said, I was gonna go to the Olympics and I was gonna win a gold medal.
[14:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I said, that right to my parents and I wasn't afraid to say that in interviews when I was younger.
[14:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was always like, okay, now I gotta, now I gotta prove it.
[14:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I knew when I was eight, the first Olympics that could go to is twenty-fourteen.
[14:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I know what I'm capable of and I know the best players
[14:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: and the world, the goats, always go through the hardest times and you need to go through the hardest times to hit the peak of the mound.
[14:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I just keep remembering, Caleb, the hard days are gonna end, but it's how you handle them.
[14:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is what's gonna make you better.
[14:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I mean, you said you wanted to be, go to the Olympics and win a gold medal.
[14:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What you did?
[14:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So what is that thing that you're working for now?
[14:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What is that thing that all of these injuries and all these subjects that you've had?
[14:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What is that thing that's like, okay, this is what I'm after?
[15:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, there's two.
[15:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's one has, I have a lot of reasons to go to Italy personally and like family, friendwise.
[15:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But for me, it's just like, there's two things.
[15:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: One, I want to do everything I can and look back with no regrets.
[15:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But also two.
[15:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, a Canadian woman has never, for singles, has never gone to three Olympics.
[15:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So like, you created history by being the youngest Olympian.
[15:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Why not create history by being the only Canadian woman to go to three?
[15:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Because everyone, all of us are going down to me, Caitlin Osmond, join our shed.
[15:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We've all going down to.
[15:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: A Canadian woman has not done three.
[15:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So, I mean, I like creating history.
[15:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I like being in the books.
[15:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Why not be more?
[15:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right?
[15:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Exactly.
[15:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Why not?
[15:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And your gold medal was a team gold medal.
[15:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You, I mean, individual gold medal.
[15:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, individual medal.
[15:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: After a lesson, that girl killed it.
[16:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That girl's an icon.
[16:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I will never say never after someone taking time off and not competing or coming out of nowhere.
[16:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No one can ever say like nothing ever again.
[16:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: She was actually very specific when she came on the podcast about the importance for her to get away from the skating to then come back to the skating and she was saying that she was enjoying it so much more because she came back with a different level of maturity but also different approach to skating.
[16:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And that's something, of course, that we see more and more as an important element in figure skating, mental health, listening to yourself.
[16:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So how do you actually deal with that?
[16:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Because you mentioned you have a board there, you said with your goals on science.
[16:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: How do you actually work on a mental health, given all you went through it?
[16:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I'm not July.
[16:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm like a list that when I had my first surgery, figure skating was not talked about in my house.
[16:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It was not on TV.
[16:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't even know what happened at the nationals, worlds, nothing.
[17:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I kind of looked at the results for worlds, but I really need to like, not to be anywhere.
[17:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, I had even unfollowed a bunch of people who were my close friend.
[17:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it was because I just needed that big of a break from social media, from skating, needed to stay away.
[17:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But once I came back, I saw vision boards were trending and I was like, you know, I'm very big into manifesting.
[17:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm very big into like what you speak.
[17:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, the universe will come to you and the universe listens.
[17:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: God listens and everything.
[17:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, you know what?
[17:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let me make a vision work, but it's not typical one.
[17:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I used all a lot of old pictures of myself from Olympics when I was in my top peak shape when I had one nationals when I podium with Caitlin at Worlds.
[17:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: when I won my team then.
[17:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So there's a lot of like stuff you would see on a normal vision board, but there's a lot of like me at my peak.
[18:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I was like, this is what I need.
[18:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And this is what we're going to get back to.
[18:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like you have your goals.
[18:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, you need to do whatever it takes to get that.
[18:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And that's how I'm looking at it now.
[18:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I started getting back into that around.
[18:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I want to say,
[18:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: November, I knew I needed to start doing this, so that after my surgery in December, that I went into an Olympic year and I was like, hey, you keep your head down.
[18:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You focus on what you need to do.
[18:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The rest is outside noise and just ignore it.
[18:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now you are, um, you're a mature skater.
[18:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're not, you're younger yourself anymore.
[18:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm not even saying I'm one of the older ones.
[18:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You're what I am.
[18:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm not even being the baby to the grandmas.
[18:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My dad likes to call it.
[18:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I won't call you a grandma, but you're one of the mature older skaters.
[18:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So a lot of younger skaters look up to you.
[19:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so for someone who has gone through what you've gone through, what advice do you give to a skater who is seeing themselves
[19:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: at rock bottom who are having injury after injury and just like can't get back what would you give advice would you give them seeing how you are kind of on the other side now coming back and in trying to go after those goals of yours I mean my advice is to know like
[19:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: First of all, when to hit rock bottom, you can only go up.
[19:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's kind of like the short sweep, funny way to say it.
[19:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But the deeper, the deeper answer would be, do not be hard on yourself.
[19:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like everyone has bad days, but like, like success is roller coaster.
[19:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like, it's crazy.
[19:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's ups, downs, twists, loops.
[19:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And you just have to be very gentle with yourself.
[19:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And you have to know like, these hard days are not always gonna last.
[20:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like time always heals.
[20:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And if you just like give yourself that grace and that passion that we all should give ourselves more is you can get through it.
[20:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it's going to get better.
[20:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You just have to give yourself that time and grace.
[20:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But trust me, you will come not only out on the other side, but you will be stronger from it.
[20:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And you'll look back and be like, wow, if I can get through that and I thought that was my worst day, I can handle a lot more that's throwing up me.
[20:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like trust me, I thought, especially this year, I thought I was the crappiest time.
[20:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I had rebroken my ankle, my grandfather passed away.
[20:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I got told I needed another surgery going into an Olympic year and I was like, can you know what?
[20:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If this is what God's gonna throw me, this is what life's gonna throw at me.
[20:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Just imagine what I can say when I reach the other side.
[20:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So that would be my advice.
[20:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There is another side and it does get better with time.
[21:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, and this is fantastic advice actually to kids.
[21:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[21:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't always take my own advice sometimes, but I'm very good at giving them.
[21:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel the same way.
[21:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But it seems like when you listen to yourself, your cheap things is an ace.
[21:16] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So you said, well, you were young, you were saying, Olympic, medal, and you got it.
[21:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So now you're telling yourself, I need to get to the Olympics.
[21:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think I should just listen to myself more.
[21:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It makes my life easier, you know?
[21:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And so
[21:31] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, you know, you probably have quite a lot of support around you, but what we want you to touch on is your fun days.
[21:36] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You have a very strong, supported fun days.
[21:38] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You were incredibly popular.
[21:40] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You're still very popular.
[21:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Your name comes out every now and then a company goes like, when is she coming back?
[21:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Thank God.
[21:47] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So, what does it feel for you to have such a, you know, to be so popular and to have fun's loving you?
[21:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It honestly means the world to me.
[21:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, I would not be anywhere without not only my friends and family, but my fans.
[22:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And especially when I have a bad day or and I have a great competition and like I feel their support and their love.
[22:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm like, you know what, like, okay, get there right, like keep moving.
[22:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like it's one back competition.
[22:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like what I do is an easy.
[22:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, oh my god, anyone could be like, oh, she did this.
[22:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She was an awful, like, competition.
[22:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's like,
[22:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Do you want to go try?
[22:25] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Because this isn't easy for me.
[22:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Trust me.
[22:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Trust me.
[22:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't have fun on my competition either.
[22:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But no, they mean the world to me.
[22:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I have the greatest fans.
[22:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I love reaching out to them as much as possible.
[22:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I love hearing their feedback.
[22:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I do have a few fans where I message personally.
[22:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I'll be like, hey, just to let you know, like, this might come out about me before you even find out.
[22:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, give them a little sneak peek, you know?
[22:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I feel like because I've been in the public eyes since I was thirteen.
[22:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm twenty seven now.
[22:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I do feel like I kind of grew up with them.
[22:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I feel like work a lot closer.
[23:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: like skater fan base then some of the other ones maybe because I have had them for so long and they're honestly just the greatest in the world like to anyone listening I love you I would not be here without you and I appreciate every single of you.
[23:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean I was seeing when you came back it brought more that they were there was tweets going around.
[23:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean your fans have stuck with you
[23:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: through the highs and the lows.
[23:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You've got a great fan base.
[23:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It means the world, especially to know that I'm not forgotten.
[23:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It means everything because I've been out for a while.
[23:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've been out, but my fans, I'm back.
[23:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Our promise.
[23:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We're working hard every day.
[23:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We're grinding.
[23:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We're keeping our focus.
[23:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We're back.
[23:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You heard it right here on this podcast.
[23:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She's back.
[23:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: She's back.
[23:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I feel like you see, you're already making a difference because you've got a clear vision.
[23:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So fingers crossed you're going to be able to achieve what you want to achieve.
[23:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But by sharing all you're sharing now, you're already making a lot of difference because someone will be listening out there and getting inspired by your words.
[24:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Maybe someone has got a similar situation and they, you know, like you, maybe they're home crying every day and they will be like, hold on, you can do it.
[24:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Maybe I can do it as well.
[24:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So you're already making an input there, which is great.
[24:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I'm not a person that likes to be outside her comfort zone.
[24:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, I'm an introverted, extroverted.
[24:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, normally I'm very introverted, I'm extroverted when I'm around people and stuff like that.
[24:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So for me, like, I'm sacrificing everything right now.
[24:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, everything's coming out of pocket.
[24:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm up to move not only training facilities, but countries.
[24:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm away from all my supports as a back home.
[24:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My parents, my brother will be turning her up for his show this year.
[24:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So it's literally me and my dog.
[24:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I'm literally like, you know what?
[24:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Unfortunately, I have sacrificed a lot to get my dream and to get my goal and to achieve it and to get this where I want to go.
[25:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And if that's what I got to do,
[25:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's what I gotta do.
[25:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And sometimes for people who are listening, who don't know what they're doing and they kind of feel stuck, take that leap of faith.
[25:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I didn't, I was very hesitant, but I was like, you know what, this is what I have to do.
[25:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I did it, and I honestly can say I'm very proud of it, and I think it's one of the best decisions I've made, is trusting myself and having my amazing head coach and other coaches in Canada, but also my amazing team here.
[25:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: and just having so much love and support with everyone combined.
[25:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I was going to ask a little bit more about because you've got your team in Canada and your team in Colorado Springs.
[25:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How often are you going back and forth?
[25:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I will be going like if I have a competition on the week, I'll be going back the week before.
[25:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: to Canada and really working with them.
[25:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm very much in contact with my head coach, Michael Hostrom, Canada.
[26:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He gets texts pretty much every day of what I did, what's going on.
[26:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And so that's more how the dynamical work is all be there.
[26:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So Michael Hostrom pretty much be with me at, I'd say, nine, five percent of my competitions.
[26:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Tammy will be coming with me to Philadelphia.
[26:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Actually, he has a ton of leather skaters there.
[26:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So we're just worked better.
[26:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But it's very good and they're in contact with each other and it's just a very great team that I'm so grateful to have.
[26:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I'm truly truly grateful to have such wonderful coaches.
[26:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And talk about, I mean, Colorado Springs, you kind of mentioned your been friends with Amber for a long time.
[26:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What's it like training with some of these top skaters?
[26:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And you're getting to see these triple triples coming out and, and quads and things and, you know, it's a really intense environment.
[26:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How is that for you and how is that helping you?
[26:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's great.
[26:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It honestly makes me feel like, like I said, back in twice, seventeen, twenty, eighteen,
[27:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: where I was at my peak training with have a user and all that, like, seeing all that and feeling like, Katie, you have to be on every single day.
[27:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So you can feel like, for me, like, I feel mid.
[27:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know, I feel mid.
[27:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, I want to feel pushed every single day.
[27:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I want to see, like, if I step out of messing up and see, like, either kids landed and swish and be like, okay, now you, you gotta go fix that, like, ASAP.
[27:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You can't be the one to fail.
[27:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You can't be the one that did this.
[27:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You need to be on.
[27:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it's just great.
[27:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I've said Amber and I have been friends with thirteen going on for fourteen years.
[27:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: She's such a wonderful person.
[27:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like inside and out an incredible athlete and incredible skater.
[27:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I'm just so grateful not to only
[27:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: train with her but to be her friend and just see her every single day get advice, talk to her and it's just great to have someone who has the same goal as you to be there with you and the best is like we're representing different countries but they're two big countries so to have that push together and to be there and like you also have candy and you have
[28:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: at least who have up-and-comers who just did Milwaukee from June, you're like, it's intense, fast-moving sessions.
[28:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It gets fast-paced, but it's so good.
[28:18] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's so incredible to turn there.
[28:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, really glad that it's all going well.
[28:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: We also had Amber on the podcast a while ago, and she was incredibly inspiring.
[28:27] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you can, you can definitely feel when you, when you spend a bit of time with her, that she is golden dust, really.
[28:32] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So to work with her must be fantastic, really.
[28:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I can imagine.
[28:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's one of the biggest honors and privileges if I'm being completely honest.
[28:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like I'm very honored and privileged and lucky every single day to turn with such
[28:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: an incredible person and athlete.
[28:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now I was going to ask you competed in Miss World Canada pageant process and you won the title of Miss Ontario.
[28:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Are you still doing any pageant?
[28:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I did do that.
[28:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I did.
[28:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I have been asked to come back.
[29:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That is a TV determined.
[29:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I wouldn't put it out.
[29:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Definitely not something I'm focusing on, but I definitely wouldn't put it out.
[29:12] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But yeah, I did pageant because
[29:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I wanted to see what it was like and I was like, I can't preach about certain things if I've never gone outside my comfort zone and tried it.
[29:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: As people know, I've had an eating disorder in the past.
[29:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm not very body confident.
[29:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I was like, you know what?
[29:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let's try it.
[29:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Did I like walking in six inch heels at a bikini?
[29:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No.
[29:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Did I do it?
[29:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yes.
[29:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I wouldn't put it out.
[29:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You never know.
[29:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[29:44] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, I like sparkles.
[29:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: There's a TRR involved.
[29:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Definitely wouldn't put it out.
[29:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We might see me back in a few years.
[29:50] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's experiences, isn't it?
[29:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm not a liar, I really liked it.
[29:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I love skating, but like, after skating, who knows, you might see me on the Miss World or Miss Universe, care, to stage and try to sprinkle in that area.
[30:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And while you were not skating, were there other things that you worked on?
[30:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Like, new hobbies or stuff that you picked up, while you couldn't skate and train?
[30:15] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've done track in the past.
[30:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My father is a track coach.
[30:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My father's incredible.
[30:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He is not only a wonderful man, a father, incredible teacher.
[30:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's also an incredible basketball coach, a track coach, and he's actually my office coach.
[30:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So, yeah, that man's my superman.
[30:34] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So he puts up with a lot of my body.
[30:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm how he deals with me some days.
[30:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Especially if I'm a little tired after training and I'm in a little spunky mood, but he's always there.
[30:45] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I stay with my mom.
[30:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And your brother is he still skating?
[30:49] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My brother is doing what's the show?
[30:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know.
[30:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's doing some show in Europe.
[30:53] \[SPEAKER_00\]: He looks like a friend.
[30:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, he's doing a show in Czech.
[30:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He'll be there for like five months.
[30:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm so proud of him.
[31:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: and everything he's done.
[31:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And I don't know when I'll see my brother.
[31:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm hoping I see him before Olympics and before Nationals and stuff.
[31:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So maybe like Christmas time, you know?
[31:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[31:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[31:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Cause YouTube we're both skating at the same time.
[31:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was doing pairs there for a little bit.
[31:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I was just wondering what he was up to.
[31:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, no, he's doing shows right now and he's just enjoying life.
[31:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, Gabby, we like to end our episodes when we have time doing some fun questions.
[31:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We throw in some of these fun questions.
[31:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We ask the skaters the same questions.
[31:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Every time we do an interview here, there's one question at the end that we've kept through all of our seasons, but this is our season four, so we've changed up a few of these questions.
[31:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[31:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm excited.
[31:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: All right.
[31:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So here we go.
[31:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If you were a fruit, which would you be and why?
[31:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like a pineapple.
[32:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[32:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know why that was so fast to you.
[32:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like it's just like,
[32:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It looks like deceiving on the outside.
[32:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It looks like a hard, like, rough fruit, but it's so sweet and tender on the inside.
[32:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And it's like one of those, like, you see a different from face value, but once you get to know it and stuff, you're like, oh my god, this is actually incredible.
[32:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know what I mean?
[32:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[32:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's great answer.
[32:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know why they came in my head so fast.
[32:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Do you like pine, I'm guessing you're like pineapple.
[32:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I do, but I prefer raspberries.
[32:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know how long that came in my head.
[32:42] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I have a pill that said like be a pineapple, wear a crown because I feel like the top is a crown.
[32:48] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You know, I was thinking exactly about that because I was in Spain two weeks ago and I wear these dancers in this square that one of them had a pineapple on the head like that as you're describing.
[32:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So I was visualizing you.
[32:59] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I love it.
[32:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I love it.
[33:00] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Let's go with it.
[33:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Guys, watch me.
[33:02] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My next Instagram picture is the pineapple.
[33:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Just for you guys.
[33:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So the next question is, what's the most awkward thing you've ever done?
[33:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Most are creasing every day.
[33:14] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm oh God.
[33:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh God.
[33:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Try other sports where it's baseball.
[33:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: It's golf.
[33:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm horrible at golf.
[33:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Don't hit better every single time we try it.
[33:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think those be pretty embarrassing.
[33:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've actually pushed doors that say pull.
[33:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Those are something I do a little spin.
[33:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah, I'd say golf and like rock the walk the wrong way or like push the door the wrong way.
[33:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[33:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, if you were an ice skate, would you be the left skate or the right skate?
[33:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: The right.
[33:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Is that your take off?
[33:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, that's my landing.
[33:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[33:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think that's just because I always tie an untie my right first.
[34:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I always have to like do my right skate first.
[34:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[34:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think that's why.
[34:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, okay.
[34:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Interesting.
[34:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So what is your go to guilty pleasure song?
[34:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My go to guilty pleasure song.
[34:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Ooh.
[34:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Or it can be artists.
[34:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If there's somebody that you're constantly like listening to, you're going to guilt.
[34:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, everyone knows I like love Taylor Swift.
[34:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Right a die.
[34:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But also my right a die is also Justin Bieber.
[34:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[34:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, that's a good one is whenever I'm in a bad room.
[34:32] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You know the song you're welcome from the Moana sounds.
[34:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Yeah.
[34:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And the Sims maybe.
[34:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: word by word, word by word.
[34:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know why, but there's something just about the like, you're welcome and the little like, yeah.
[34:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Isn't that Lin Manuel Miranda singing this song?
[34:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: No, no, she didn't even John sing.
[34:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, the random one.
[34:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Well, throw the movie.
[34:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[34:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[34:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[34:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[34:58] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Between John's and things and there's just something about like, it's cheekiness and everything.
[35:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I love it.
[35:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay.
[35:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Everyone says I'm a cheeky person.
[35:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm like, I'm not, I'm not about it.
[35:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I love it.
[35:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Off to say that one.
[35:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: All right.
[35:12] \[SPEAKER_01\]: If a director wanted to make a movie about you, which actor would you want to play at you in a movie?
[35:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like Selena Gomez or Milit Funez would be good.
[35:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've also been told like with like my smoking makeup, I look like a Madison beer, like a Milit Funez.
[35:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like both big options.
[35:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Good choices.
[35:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, they're choices.
[35:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I would say it's in damn, but I don't think I would ever have the budget for her.
[35:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, we didn't say anything about budget.
[35:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We just said if some director wanted to make a movie about you.
[35:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So it's not, I don't think it's coming out of your pocket.
[35:47] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I feel like the way just Selena Gomez and Miela Kunas are with their like cheeky personalities and the way they can play on it.
[35:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think they would really represent me.
[35:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I would say one of those two.
[35:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[35:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're granted three wishes.
[36:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What are they?
[36:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And you can ask for more wishes.
[36:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, three wishes, three wishes, three wishes.
[36:08] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I mean, like, world peace and world hunger is like kind of a give it, right?
[36:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Um, very pageant like, I say.
[36:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, three wishes.
[36:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I don't even, I honestly don't know.
[36:29] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's so hard.
[36:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's not even the last question that's the hard one that everyone says.
[36:35] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh God.
[36:37] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh God.
[36:39] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I would just say, like, yeah, World Hunger Peace, but I would also just say, like, that everyone, I wish that everyone gets to live like their best life and do what they want to do.
[36:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: One.
[36:56] \[SPEAKER_04\]: What's the second?
[36:57] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I was just not gonna injure them.
[36:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Is that a great one?
[36:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's awesome.
[37:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's a nice little break.
[37:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then yeah, my third research is just I wish to make people proud of me and just like inspire them.
[37:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I wish to inspire people and show them that anything is possible even when the world tells you or is completely feels completely against you that you can achieve your dream.
[37:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Okay.
[37:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Those are my sounds really cheesy, but I don't know.
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm a hard one.
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Great.
[37:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That's great.
[37:29] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[37:30] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm scared for this last one.
[37:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I really should go go to that.
[37:33] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's good.
[37:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, it's got the number three in it still.
[37:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, it does have number three in itself.
[37:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Do you want me to do this one?
[37:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I already want to take.
[37:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Go for it.
[37:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I know it's a favorite.
[37:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It is my favorite.
[37:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We've had this one since season one and it can cause some skaters to get like
[37:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Tie it up about it a little bit.
[37:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh no.
[37:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, you're stuck on a deserted island with three skaters, past or present.
[37:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Who would you be stuck on the island with?
[38:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Now, you can either be on the island just to be on the island, have a good time, or you need to figure out how to get off the island.
[38:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay, if I'm on the island, off the top of my head is Amber.
[38:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Amber's talking with me.
[38:17] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My girl, you're talking with me.
[38:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, who is the end of another one?
[38:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'd say, have your Fernandez because we were a great friend, we'd stand together.
[38:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We know how to handle each other.
[38:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We know our strengths and weaknesses.
[38:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And then.
[38:36] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Okay, this is the tricky one.
[38:41] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My middle name is named after Shalengorn.
[38:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But I'm born on my favorite figure skated during the Sheds birthday.
[38:48] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So I'm caught and caught.
[38:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, you can have both of them.
[38:52] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I would either do both, but if I had to pick one, I would go join me.
[38:55] \[SPEAKER_04\]: So be doing her shut, have your financials, and we're glad.
[38:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think it would be my final answer.
[39:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And that would be just to have a good time.
[39:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You're not trying to get off the island.
[39:04] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, I love you.
[39:05] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I've been on a deserted island.
[39:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't think I'm going off.
[39:10] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I can't really don't think I would be able to get off.
[39:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: If there was any way for being to get off, I'm calling my father and been like, ah dad, can you help me?
[39:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't know what to do.
[39:21] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Like, yeah, how do I do this?
[39:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, when the skaters try to name their skaters that they, you know, need help getting off the island, the biggest one we've had is Keegan Messing.
[39:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're all say Keegan Messing is gonna get off the island.
[39:40] \[SPEAKER_04\]: That's a good one.
[39:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because I guess, you know, living in Alaska, he's got the skills to get people off an island.
[39:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, to survival skills.
[39:50] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, hundreds of percent.
[39:51] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My house go off to keep an eye seeing like surviving in Alaska, like that TV show on Netflix could never, could never.
[40:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Who else would be like a very, I think Amber would be great.
[40:06] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think that Belle will probably solve for Rey off.
[40:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I can't remember who she said.
[40:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, because one thing that she shared with us, yeah, she was saying that having learned a lot of lessons going to competitions, she brings things like extra stockings and stuff like that, because she knows that other skaters might need that.
[40:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So she was saying that she has access from these extra that and I'm thinking that would be perfect on the island because I'm thinking beforehand, what could we need?
[40:31] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh yeah, I'm the same.
[40:33] \[SPEAKER_04\]: My friends call me the mom of the group because like I'm like Mary poppins with my personal opinion.
[40:38] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I like I like to have everything.
[40:41] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You'll be fine on the island with Amber then.
[40:43] \[SPEAKER_04\]: But no, I think my choices are not only to have a good time.
[40:46] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think I think before us could easily try to get off my own.
[40:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think so.
[40:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I really do too.
[40:53] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Grab some coconut tree, chopping down, make yourself a raft.
[40:58] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Maybe pineapples, you know what I know.
[40:59] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, child pineapple.
[41:01] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I don't take the leaves from the coconut trees and you make a little sale.
[41:09] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Take seaweed to tie the knots to connect everything.
[41:13] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think I could do it.
[41:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[41:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like this question.
[41:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's why this question, it just, I never know.
[41:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This way, wait, he's here, and then the three wishes.
[41:23] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is a way to do another three wishes.
[41:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, Jason Brown, it took him forever.
[41:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He just kept going.
[41:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, Jason, do you have any, and he's like, no, I can't give you an answer.
[41:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I literally had to wait like three months until I was at Nationals with him and I recorded a special little thing in Nationals with his three answers.
[41:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He finally came up with three and it was Keegan Messing and I think he said maybe I think he had Michelle Kwan in there because he said someone would miss Michelle Kwan so they would come after us and you know and so I mean like the thoughts that people put in Namhat I can't even remember Nam was one, two, three right off the bat.
[42:03] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I mean, Joe's a doctor, so you have that.
[42:07] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Having would bring the good vibes, but he also knows when you get stuff done.
[42:11] \[SPEAKER_04\]: You have Amber, who's gonna bring the extra equipment and make sure like everyone's taking care.
[42:16] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And yeah, me, who's like, okay, this is our set plan.
[42:19] \[SPEAKER_04\]: We need ABCD to build.
[42:20] \[SPEAKER_04\]: This is how we'll do it.
[42:22] \[SPEAKER_04\]: And you out like the, you got the muscles from all four of us.
[42:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think we're a great team.
[42:27] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I think it's a great team.
[42:28] \[SPEAKER_04\]: Oh, absolutely.
[42:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well done.
[42:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You survived that question.
[42:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, we want to thank you Gabby for joining us today.
[42:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We are so excited to see you back and we wish you all of the best this season.
[42:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, go after it.
[42:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, just make us proud.
[42:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, make yourself proud too.
[42:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And yeah, so can't wait to see what you accomplish this season.
[42:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[43:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[43:02] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And as I said before, you inspired a lot.
[43:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Thank you for sharing all you shared.
