## Transcript

[0:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Hi, this is Alyssa Liu and you're listening to this week in stating.
[0:21] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Welcome to this week in Skating, the weekly podcast bringing you the latest news from the world of figure skating.
[0:27] \[SPEAKER_00\]: Here are your hosts, Daphne, Gina, and let's say it.
[0:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Before last season took off, we were the first media outlet to welcome Alyssa Lou back to the Skating World.
[0:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Since then, her return season ended up being a collection of important results, including her first world title, one in Boston, in front of an incredibly supportive home crowd.
[0:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: After some shows in the summer time, she is now getting ready for the new season, which includes your Olympic Games in Milano.
[0:56] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So we're excited to welcome Melissa back to this week in Skating.
[0:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Welcome back, Melissa.
[1:03] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're so glad to have you back with us.
[1:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, we were the first ones.
[1:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Gina and I were a little surprised.
[1:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, why?
[1:12] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, why is nobody talking to Melissa?
[1:16] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And then it was like, right after I came out,
[1:19] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, oh, the other media.
[1:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But we now think that this podcast has something to do with bringing good luck.
[1:33] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So we just had a skater on who's making a comeback to Gabby down in some, hoping we told her, okay, it works for a son, hoping it works for Gabby.
[1:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're all about the positive, good, awesome vibes, spreading that to everyone.
[1:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let's see important thing.
[1:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes.
[1:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So Alyssa, your comeback season, how would you describe it?
[1:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I got everything that I wanted to get out of it.
[2:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just didn't expect, you know, all the medals.
[2:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And obviously the world title, I did not expect that.
[2:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But um,
[2:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: it pretty much the season went exactly how me and my team planned it to just program wise and I got to put out two programs I really liked so that was really cool and they got a ton of my programs got ton of visibility which was also one of my goals just because I want to you know more people to see my art I guess but um yeah I was a lot busier than I expected so that was another big thing but yeah all in all it was a really good season I think
[2:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's interesting, because you mentioned your popularity and popularity of our programs and we remembered that Lofi actually reposted.
[2:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[2:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I love Lofi's skating, which was quite phenomenal, wasn't it?
[2:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, oh my god, I love Lofi.
[2:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And she actually loves watching skating.
[2:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I thought that was really cool.
[2:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And yeah, I mean, it's so awesome to just have the artists that you skate to, you know, recognize your competitions and your programs.
[3:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm just so lucky that Levi is super receptive and um, you know, she's very supportive.
[3:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So talking about your comeback season here, um, what did you learn from this season?
[3:23] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Was there something that stuck out into, you know, like, what did you learn from it?
[3:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Basically.
[3:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How to manage my time better?
[3:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think, um, obviously I learned
[3:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, I progressed physically at my ability was, but I think I just learned how to stay present more and like I remember every competition I did basically and before when I was skating, it wasn't like that.
[3:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I think through the last season, I learned more I guess
[4:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: more mental abilities type of thing.
[4:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's pretty much it.
[4:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, I can think of at least.
[4:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, listen, if you had to look at your first senior season a few years ago and you're coming back here, how would you say that you've changed as both a skater and a human?
[4:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh my god, like these are two, several eyes.
[4:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like I've lived a million lives honestly.
[4:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I don't really remember too much from before.
[4:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm not gonna lie, but I think part of it is the staying present and wanting to, you know, do what I do every day.
[4:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like every day I'm not dreading, you know, stepping on the ice, which was something I did all the time before.
[4:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I like life a lot better.
[4:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, I have really good friends and right now it's summer so they're all home from college.
[5:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I've been hanging out with them like every day.
[5:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And yeah, I'm just, I'm just a lot happier this time around.
[5:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, there's such a big difference.
[5:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I like skating now.
[5:22] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Isn't that good to feel that way to say you like skating?
[5:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because like I don't have to force no one has to force me to train you know like I want to train like I like training more than anything in this proc process I guess.
[5:39] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, I was just thinking if you had a chance to go back before your retirement would you still do it?
[5:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, one hundred percent.
[5:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I'm saying?
[5:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, I needed the retirement.
[5:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If I didn't retire, not only would I have been like a horrible skater like in the end, like I would not have progressed, you know, it would have been downhill.
[5:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But, you know, as a person, I would have also just
[6:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: digress, you know what I'm saying?
[6:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's, yeah, it's a scary thought.
[6:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Me not retiring.
[6:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I hope that life time that that's never happened.
[6:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, no, I, I wouldn't say anything.
[6:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I would just let it go with the flow.
[6:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I'm saying?
[6:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think everything worked out.
[6:25] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sometimes you have to take
[6:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: a step away.
[6:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I think we talked about this in the last podcast with you.
[6:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sometimes you have to step away.
[6:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, in order to rebuild that appreciation again.
[6:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, in order to build yourself back up, you know, you can always restart.
[6:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But if you're in the same spot, that's you're not really giving yourself a platform to restart.
[6:46] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I'm saying?
[6:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[6:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[6:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[6:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think it's important to know yourself and recognize that.
[6:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[6:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And sometimes we're in a hard big thing.
[6:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And especially when you're doing the same thing every day, sometimes you don't have a moment to stop and think for yourself or think, what am I doing?
[7:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Where do I want to go?
[7:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And you don't have time to reevaluate.
[7:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I remember really well, luckily at that point, I think COVID really helped me see that actually because everything stopped.
[7:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I, you know, understand what was happening.
[7:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[7:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think COVID changed a lot of things for people.
[7:23] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, not just in the way of isolation, but that forced time to maybe confront some of your thoughts and feelings that you kind of push out
[7:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I can.
[7:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't want to deal with.
[7:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[7:39] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So I want to talk about Boston.
[7:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Have you watched your programs back from Boston at all?
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yes.
[7:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I did.
[7:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I watched my skate almost immediately after because I want to like see how it looked, you know?
[7:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And if I receive it well, you know, because sometimes I'll look at a program back.
[8:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll be like, oh, no.
[8:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But no, I really like my Boston programs.
[8:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You look like you were having the time your life felt there honestly.
[8:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I was in the photography pit and just your whole aura just seemed like you were out there having a blast.
[8:23] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I know for me, I was with the media and once you got to that last jumping pass, I was like, oh my god, this is this is the program and I can't stand in the media.
[8:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm not supposed to get up and stand and clap, but I did.
[8:40] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, it was amazing.
[8:43] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I mean, that was probably the highlight of the world championships.
[8:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I think that when we came back and did our recap, Daphne and I were like,
[8:54] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Not mention Alyssa in this recap.
[8:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because you had, I mean, we talked about your season a little bit.
[9:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You started strong and you built, like, throughout the season.
[9:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It wasn't.
[9:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You started here in state.
[9:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It was like, climb to get there.
[9:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And it was, you know, it for us, it was cool to see where you started and where you were at the end because
[9:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: we interviewed you so early on and so for us it was cool to say yeah no like you really got a trust process and I think that's the best way to build like this because you can't stay like this forever you know and I mean that's unrealistic so you know me and my team we'd plan for around nationals and worlds if I was going to be sent world but we were mostly thinking nationals you know peak at nationals
[9:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So, yeah, I mean, I pick that world's, but... What's just where you should have?
[9:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Right, I was in the time of almost good time.
[9:57] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It's interesting, because I'm listening to you, and I'm thinking, okay, she's incredibly structured and look how discipline she's been for the entire season.
[10:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yes, there was this recent skating magazine article where you were on the Colorado.
[10:08] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you said, you love chaos.
[10:10] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So how chaotic is your life right now?
[10:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I guess I do.
[10:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I kind of thrive in it, you know?
[10:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, yeah, I hate things that are, you know, static and things that don't change.
[10:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I need variety in my life.
[10:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It keeps my brain going.
[10:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think there's something to be said for the spontaneity of things sometimes and just having a lot going on.
[10:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You don't have
[10:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: the time to rest really like not rest is in physical rest but like your brain you're just going and whatever is coming and sometimes that can be a good thing oh yeah no definitely like I have ADHD and so my brain is always kind of you know active and I've a ton of siblings so when I'm home it's it's chaotic and I think just I really do thrive in that environment so
[11:10] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Speaking of this article, I was reading it in the quote, Philip said, he tried to talk you out of your comeback, but you convinced him you could do it.
[11:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Have you ever told him after you won worlds maybe, like, I told you so?
[11:25] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Like, oh, no.
[11:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You could do this.
[11:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, no, no.
[11:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: He was so right for that because, like, I was in such a bad place in skating the last time and he didn't want that to happen again.
[11:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So he was just reevaluating me to see
[11:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If I truly was in a good place to come back and you know, start because if I came back for the wrong reasons, it would have, I would have spiraled again.
[11:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know what I'm saying?
[11:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I would have repented the pattern.
[11:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So he was really just trying to get my psych.
[11:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[11:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[11:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You seem to have, I mean, in your coaching team, especially with the reactions because I mean,
[11:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: at Worlds it was pretty it was pretty cool just the excitement that he and Massimo had at the boards when you were skating like it was very very fun to watch and that reactions after to like the hugs and everything can you describe that relationship that you have with them because for your coach to say
[12:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, maybe you shouldn't come back or try to talk you out of it just to make sure you're in that place.
[12:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How does your relationship with them help you continue to grow and move forward?
[12:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, like, they are really good people and they also understand that skating isn't everything.
[12:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, what I mean, they're not those type of coaches where it's kind of all or nothing, I guess.
[12:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're not strict necessarily like I have my own self-discipline so no I don't need someone else to discipline me and they understand that obviously
[13:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They know when things are like too much and so it's kind of whatever formula we have it works and you know like they have their own lives too So their whole life isn't skating either, which is also great because Honestly, it's almost too extreme There's so many people out there that are just like focused on like skating and they have those horse blinders and they just keep looking forwards, but they don't see what's around them
[13:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And that can be suffocating to me just because I used to be in that spot and now I'm not obviously I can love this for and I came back and but I still have that mindset of I'm not really in this sport, do you know what I mean?
[13:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So yeah, it just feels like we're
[13:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: every day it's a new project with them.
[13:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And yeah, I mean, they never get mad at me.
[13:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They never raise their voice.
[13:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, we're all adults.
[13:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's no need for that.
[14:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So yeah, they just are really good coaches.
[14:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[14:06] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That sounds incredibly healthy.
[14:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[14:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It sounds incredibly healthy.
[14:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I think one thing we mentioned COVID a little bit ago,
[14:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: For me personally, COVID, what it helped me do is realize that I needed a better balance in my life with not just focusing on work or, you know, just one or two things, but having a much broader fuller life.
[14:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And I think having that and not being tunnel visioned
[14:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: is a really positive thing.
[14:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and also because you just learned so much from the outside, you know, when you're in that bubble, like it's hard to see what you're missing.
[14:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But when you step out of it and look at it from the outside, it's so much better.
[14:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[14:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And like another thing.
[14:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They're not like weird about food or body which a lot of coaches in this sport really toxic and you know they'll tell their skaters and they'll be inaccurate too like they'll talk about nutrition and they don't know a thing about nutrition and like It's crazy out here, but they're not like that so that's it's also you know healthy in that way And yeah, I mean their professional coaches um
[15:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: they don't try to get into anything else.
[15:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's some other coaches try to do.
[15:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That makes sense.
[15:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I think it does.
[15:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I think it does.
[15:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think sometimes it's hard for people to stay in their lane and focus on the things that they're doing that and let a nutritionist or a conditioning coach like focus on those things.
[15:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's they know like the experts like it takes a team of people that
[15:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Let the coaches and choreographers coach and create the programs, but let a nutritionist work on making sure that you're getting the number of calories you need to be an athlete.
[16:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Exactly.
[16:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[16:03] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Great as well.
[16:04] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So you said it.
[16:05] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Have these great team you're working with.
[16:07] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But also, I guess it was quite nice for you to be back as part of Team USA with the other skaters that are part of Team USA.
[16:14] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And you know, achieving the top three top five, sorry, for all the three women from the USA and at the world.
[16:21] \[SPEAKER_01\]: That was it.
[16:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[16:24] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's in the right.
[16:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[16:26] \[SPEAKER_04\]: He's so amazing.
[16:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We did awesome.
[16:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[16:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I don't remember in recent years the U.S.
[16:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: woman being in this position going into.
[16:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think we're so new.
[16:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And even like outside of me, Amber and Isabel, even though like we placed that world super well, it's like there's so many others on to me who say that are also really good.
[16:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's so cool.
[16:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, there's a great depth.
[16:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's really continued to grow.
[16:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and that's really exciting.
[17:00] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So after worlds you, I mean, I don't know if I could have kept up with what you were doing.
[17:06] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You were doing stars on ice, then you were doing like Olympic promos in California, and then you were in Keynes, and what have you been doing since?
[17:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: The season ended.
[17:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, let's talk about that actually by camera.
[17:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because to be honest, I it's been spent a lot.
[17:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So after World Team trophy ended, there were shows and stuff like that.
[17:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There was like no time to relax, you know, kind of write on to the next.
[17:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So yeah, I'd start my store and then a few other shows here in there.
[17:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: that we see, you know, for a social satellite, it was so cool.
[17:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: The sets were, I mean, obviously, their professionals, their, you know, they work on movies and films and animations and it's, we kind of got that treatment.
[17:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So it was really awesome.
[17:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've never done anything like that because the last Olympics, you know, was a COVID Olympics, so it was a lot more restricted.
[18:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We didn't do as much as they usually would.
[18:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, I went to France for the cons, yeah, cons lines festival.
[18:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I also went to New York because I had the Harlem Gala and then I had some other like
[18:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: media stuff there.
[18:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then what did I do?
[18:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't remember.
[18:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I went to lawyer firm show, which was really cool because I trained there during COVID.
[18:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I got to go back.
[18:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I did promo in St.
[18:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Louis.
[18:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I got to see the arena where nationals will be held.
[18:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, throughout the first pitch, right?
[18:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes, I did.
[18:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I did throughout the first pitch.
[18:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, he was a busy two days.
[18:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Really fun.
[18:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Then I did the ad this event called the Gold Gala, which was awesome.
[19:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Guys, it was awesome.
[19:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I also met Lin here.
[19:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was the first time we met.
[19:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then what else?
[19:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: How are it?
[19:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I went to Rome for a week to train with Mossmo, because he was there.
[19:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so
[19:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: me and fill up.
[19:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We went over there to see him get my programs done.
[19:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, my, oh, and then I went to Liverpool, obviously, and I saw my family.
[19:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That was like sort of vacation.
[19:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, I've been camping like last weekend.
[19:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[19:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, I don't really.
[19:42] \[SPEAKER_05\]: This is all sounding like a where in the world is a little
[19:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh my gosh.
[19:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: See you finally got like a little downtime like to go camping into the beach and Liverpool.
[19:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[19:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's good to get a little rest because this upcoming season is going to be, I mean, you know, although it was a COVID like a limbic season.
[20:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So this is going to be a little bit different because.
[20:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I guess so.
[20:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[20:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And hopefully, you know, an Olympics without a non-covid Olympics.
[20:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Right.
[20:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[20:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Where the whole.
[20:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because that in itself was.
[20:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, no other Olympics we've ever seen.
[20:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and it's crazy.
[20:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Everyone tells me, like, do you enjoy it?
[20:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm like, wait, yeah.
[20:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Was I not supposed to enjoy it?
[20:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, it was really cool to me, even though it was a COVID Olympics.
[20:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, this just means the next Olympics is going to be that much better.
[20:42] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, you mentioned your preparation for the new season.
[20:46] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So how is that going?
[20:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh yeah, okay.
[20:49] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So we kind of almost got two programs.
[20:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Not really.
[20:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We don't have any like a facial cut for music yet.
[20:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like me, a loss.
[20:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've just been editing the music ourselves, like really rough cuts.
[21:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Trying to get it to work.
[21:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We haven't confirmed my programs because honestly, I still haven't.
[21:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't even know if I...
[21:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, we're still like tweaking things and so we'll have to see, but I mean they're pretty cool so far.
[21:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, I want to say something about that because I think fans are like, everybody should be announcing their programs.
[21:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's July.
[21:27] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And why don't we have programs from this person and this person and that person?
[21:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I feel like you guys are still working out those things to make sure you have the right program for this season.
[21:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[21:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Also, it's my summer video for me.
[21:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's still my summer.
[21:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm so on vacation.
[21:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, finally getting that break because everything was so crazy.
[21:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, and you need that.
[21:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I mean, the downtime is good.
[21:55] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, and I mean, I don't think I even announced my programs like around this time last year.
[22:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I think it was way later.
[22:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, so early.
[22:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: What am I for being stunned like?
[22:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, because I mean, it's still early like most of the juniors.
[22:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, it's like started the season is going.
[22:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It started.
[22:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: We're moving.
[22:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, the, well, that's a beautiful horrible.
[22:26] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Listen, doesn't even know the season started.
[22:29] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You guys, like a condition.
[22:33] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So like the qualifying season for the US started like,
[22:37] \[SPEAKER_03\]: July first, like that's when it kicks off.
[22:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Well, seniors, some are competing.
[22:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[22:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Here's what they're competing.
[22:46] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's the end to us.
[22:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It's the next.
[22:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[22:49] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[22:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[22:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[22:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: See, like, last year around this time, I was, I didn't have my, you know, programs set.
[22:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And we created, actually, wait, I, too, free skates, basically.
[23:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, first one was completely scrapped, so we had to stir over.
[23:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um, and that's just like how it goes.
[23:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So that's why I don't announce things because like, yeah, like, what if I change my mind?
[23:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: But it's almost like having a tailor made dress isn't it?
[23:13] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You've got to make sure it fits you.
[23:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And if it doesn't, you're then you're going to be uncomfortable in it.
[23:18] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So that's why you're putting all the energy coming up with what works for you.
[23:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: what you feel comforted with and you know you you did it last year taking your time and these year you're heading into your lane big season so even more so you want to be a hundred and ten percent sure that you got the right thing yes you know yeah I think it's okay if people haven't announced music yet I know that
[23:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Fans are just excited.
[23:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is the Olympic year.
[23:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And of course, they want to know if people in announcing like their music already.
[23:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Some singles.
[23:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, some singles.
[23:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Some of the Japanese skaters have announced their music.
[23:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They've been the ones that
[23:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: have really been on top of it.
[24:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, Alyssa's mind is being blown right now.
[24:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wait, I didn't know people were like, they show their programs.
[24:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They have them on right now like we're ready.
[24:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, it's like they're short.
[24:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I would just love to their last year's programs because like.
[24:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But Alyssa, again, I think it's their process.
[24:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like that's their process.
[24:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And they're trusting their process and that it's just different.
[24:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It just honestly shows it's different for everyone.
[24:45] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[24:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Exactly.
[24:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[24:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: This is what there's no deadline.
[24:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: No, don't you just have to have your programs ready by champs camp.
[24:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, not even.
[24:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't have my program ready by champs camp last year.
[24:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yeah, I didn't.
[24:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was almost a little angry about that, but I was like, what am I like?
[25:02] \[SPEAKER_02\]: One, I don't even have the stamina to do a program.
[25:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I didn't have my stamina to do my programs yet.
[25:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I couldn't even do one.
[25:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's important for people to just be on their own process, own process, own play with their coaches.
[25:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Instead of trying to live up to someone else's expectation at that point.
[25:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because it's too difficult, this season is too intense as it is.
[25:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So yeah, I don't think forcing yourself to be ready is the one you're not.
[25:34] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's not.
[25:35] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's better to be
[25:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, things can change.
[25:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Things can grow and change.
[25:41] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I don't think you don't have to bring it until competition.
[25:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So, right, it's fun.
[25:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Exactly.
[25:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And again, when you see a program at the beginning of the season and then you see it at the end, there's so much that changes in tweaks and grows, that I always find it fun.
[26:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's amazing.
[26:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, to see all those changes.
[26:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And because it's not just like elements or
[26:08] \[SPEAKER_03\]: little nuance.
[26:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's just like the whole expression of it changes because the comfort level is there.
[26:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I think.
[26:17] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, one of the questions that we had was actually, do you feel any pressure entering into your Olympic season?
[26:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I hope that after what we were just looking about, you don't feel pressured now.
[26:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No.
[26:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, we're, I don't.
[26:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, no.
[26:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I actually don't really feel pressure for the Olympics.
[26:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, like obviously, I'd like to do clean programs there, because that's like, you know, the perfect performance of
[26:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: you know, your abilities and your program, you know.
[26:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, I would like to show my programs to their best quality.
[26:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, that's up to, you know, how my stamina is and how my consistency is.
[26:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And, you know, in the moment, so we'll have to see.
[27:02] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, you're two grand pre-assignments.
[27:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: You have a couple of China in Skate America.
[27:07] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I want to talk about Skate America because you were heading to Lake Plessid, which was your first JGP.
[27:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I was there.
[27:15] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Definitely was there for that.
[27:18] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And there was a very different elicid than.
[27:21] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So if you even thought about that, going back to like, kind of wear it, all kind of started.
[27:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I did not even hear that was my first date.
[27:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay.
[27:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Wow.
[27:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: No, I didn't know that.
[27:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Honestly, I don't remember like plus and that much.
[27:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I just remember when I was there last time.
[27:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I saw Rainbow in the sky.
[27:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Until you know what, it often rains in like, placid.
[27:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: At least every year when I go, there's always this torrential downpour on one day and a rainbow.
[27:54] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Wow.
[27:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like, I swear, it's, I think it's a good sign.
[27:58] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think it's a good sign.
[28:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's good vibes.
[28:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I actually funny because like, I didn't really want to do Skate America because, you know, like, I want to travel.
[28:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But
[28:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I really wanted to do Japan because I loved Japan.
[28:13] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, but I did also, but I got a cup of China, which is what I wanted.
[28:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So that was cool.
[28:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I got one, Grand Prix that wanted.
[28:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it kind of just worked out.
[28:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Because I think there's something about like, they shouldn't send everybody like to the same Grand Prix because they want right.
[28:31] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll stop equal chances of going to the fight.
[28:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes.
[28:34] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Well, don't forget that the Grand Prix family is going to be in Japan, so maybe that's a good push for you to qualify for it.
[28:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, so then okay, wait, I don't know why I didn't think you still have a chance.
[28:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm fine.
[28:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm fine.
[28:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm fine.
[28:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[28:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But you know, they brought me.
[28:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They said that I was allowed to go Bob's setting if I go to Skate America.
[28:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They were like the Bob's setting there and they were like, don't you want to Bob's set?
[29:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, wait a little bit.
[29:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I finally like fully defined.
[29:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll go to Skate America.
[29:09] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Okay, I'd like to see her Bob Slay after Skate America.
[29:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I thought if I'm not Bob Slay, let's put some pressure on you as for your skating right now.
[29:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They better get me on a Bob Slay.
[29:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yep.
[29:22] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And not on the stationary one that's on main.
[29:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No, they better not.
[29:29] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They need to get you on a real one.
[29:31] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And if they don't get John one in like classed, then there you go.
[29:35] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Oh, fix is where your Bob sled.
[29:39] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was from a Bob sledding.
[29:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean the Bob sled.
[29:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, bring me to the Bob sled.
[29:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Here's a good question.
[29:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Are we maybe going to see a triple axle this season?
[29:53] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[29:54] \[SPEAKER_04\]: I'm hundred percent.
[29:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I mean, I was, I can do triple axel like in practice.
[30:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Although I will say I haven't practiced it for like a couple months.
[30:05] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I haven't really been training because like I've been doing so much.
[30:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, last season I was learning them in practice.
[30:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Obviously I didn't, I wasn't gonna do it in my program.
[30:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, and like in my my thought process is well, if I was able to do them last year with, you know,
[30:29] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Last season was a struggle for me just because I was getting back into the rhythm.
[30:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I was like if I can do it then I'm gonna be able to do it this season.
[30:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So that's why I feel pretty confident in doing it in a program.
[30:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I wasn't really training it.
[30:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, I was just doing it here and there for fun.
[30:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like literally I was training my programs every day and it was hanging so much of my energy.
[30:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, I can't do to black souls right now because I'm tired.
[30:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But every now and then I'll be like, I have some energy left over.
[30:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Let's just do a few axles.
[30:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It'd be like not even once a week.
[31:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I would do them like every other week, not even.
[31:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I want you know, but I started learning them so quick.
[31:09] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So that's why I'm
[31:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: excited I guess to start doing them for real for real because um yeah they're really fun to do yeah what about the quads any quads coming back oh no yeah I haven't tried a quad for years um and I don't feel right now that I'm in a place where I'm strong enough to do quads um
[31:36] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, it's, there's constant impact and doing them so much.
[31:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Like, the, the, in the risk of so high.
[31:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I'm just not at that spot where I feel like my body can handle it.
[31:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So I'm not going to do them.
[31:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[31:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that's right.
[31:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You said already yourself where you know yourself.
[31:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[31:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like why would I start doing quads and then hurt myself?
[32:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[32:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[32:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'll do them on the harness, but that's, that's it.
[32:06] \[SPEAKER_01\]: In terms of the goals for the new season, so when we spoke with you last year before the last season started, you were very clear, you said I want to have good programs, I want to be able to go through them and I want to keep trading to push myself every time I get on the ice.
[32:20] \[SPEAKER_01\]: And I guess it's a tick, tick, tick to all of these goals.
[32:22] \[SPEAKER_01\]: You've done it.
[32:25] \[SPEAKER_01\]: It feels like you're very much able to, you achieved all of them.
[32:30] \[SPEAKER_01\]: If you've got any goals for the new season, yet.
[32:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Honestly, the same things.
[32:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I'm not really good programs that are received well by everybody.
[32:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I mean, that's to me that's like the whole point of skating, like having cool programs.
[32:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's like being a singer and not having good songs.
[32:47] \[SPEAKER_02\]: You know, like, what is the point?
[32:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[32:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So when we talked to you last fall, you're starting a managed school being a psychology major at UCLA.
[33:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: How did that go?
[33:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Well, it was my sophomore year of school.
[33:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I lived in my dorm for three weeks before I realized my return was when I was on the way back from NHK.
[33:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I would be on the plane.
[33:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And that didn't work out.
[33:17] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And they couldn't, you know, I can't do the mentor many other time.
[33:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then one of the classes I was trying to get, I couldn't get off the wait list for it.
[33:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So many people wanted that class and got to it before I did.
[33:28] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I was like, man, this is not working out.
[33:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I deferred the quarter and I've kind of just been deferring the quarter since.
[33:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I think I'm going to put in an official gap here because yeah, I'm kind of feeling home right now.
[33:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I kind of like home.
[33:43] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, and you're home with your dad and your siblings, right?
[33:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah.
[33:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So what's it like being home with your family?
[33:50] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I know you're really close with your family.
[33:52] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[33:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, oh, it's great.
[33:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's like, I've no complaints.
[33:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's fun all the time.
[33:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And there's always going to be one person that's down to do something with me, you know, at least one.
[34:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What thing you did talk about last year?
[34:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And we, I mean, it was so much fun.
[34:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: when you were backpacking in the Himalayas.
[34:13] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Have you done anything since, like, any fun little trips like that?
[34:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Okay, this is a hard topic because I was supposed to go again this year, but it's all nice at the same time.
[34:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I already have a contract for Starter Nice.
[34:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I had to do Starter Nice.
[34:32] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I was.
[34:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: They weren't going to do a trek to another part of the Himalayas, where there's more lakes and stuff like that.
[34:42] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's a harder trek and I really want to do it, but couldn't do it because if you wait any later, like that was the time to go, because wait any later, there are leeches that you don't want to see.
[34:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I, I had to start a nice, which was fun too.
[35:01] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So like, I'm not gonna complain.
[35:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But yeah, I mean, I've done a ton of hikes this year.
[35:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Just like with my friends kind of around area.
[35:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I saw a seal in the wild for the first time, which was so cool.
[35:18] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're so cool.
[35:19] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They are.
[35:21] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, where I live, we see them if you take a boat trip out, because I live in Maine.
[35:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And if you take like a coastal boat out, you see them.
[35:31] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, my God.
[35:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's, it's, they're so, the babies are so cute.
[35:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And the little groups, it, yeah, you see them on rock formations.
[35:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: They're so long, too.
[35:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know, yes, they echo.
[35:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You're like, what they do.
[35:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, they do.
[35:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Especially when there's no real acoustics, it's just like,
[35:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[35:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's wild.
[35:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I love it though.
[35:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[35:53] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, during camping, I also went white water rafting.
[35:57] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I was pretty fun.
[35:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I did two days of that.
[35:59] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We do it every year.
[36:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And it's really fun.
[36:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's really, there's an element of danger with that.
[36:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I love swimming.
[36:11] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I love the water.
[36:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So
[36:14] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, when I come with you.
[36:20] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, you'll get back to climbing the Himalayas.
[36:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes.
[36:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, yes.
[36:24] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, I will.
[36:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah.
[36:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Next year, that's what I'm I'm been telling like the group.
[36:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Tell the people that stars are nice to make sure the tour does not.
[36:34] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I actually was.
[36:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I was like, maybe I can go if I just skip a couple of shows, but
[36:40] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's not the concept allowed.
[36:42] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No.
[36:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: No.
[36:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Sometimes being an adult is difficult because you have to make choices.
[36:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I know.
[36:51] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And they never tell you this.
[36:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: If someone told me if you come back to skating, you're going to miss the next trek in Nepal.
[37:00] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm just kidding.
[37:03] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm playing in a non-play.
[37:04] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But no, next year, or maybe that year after that, I'll do it.
[37:07] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's always time.
[37:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: There's always time.
[37:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Is there another adventure that you'd like to go on?
[37:15] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Because I'm sure that being on the human, like tracking manalays, you, it might have inspired you to think about some other places that you'd like to
[37:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: go to me.
[37:25] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I want to learn how to surf really bad.
[37:27] \[SPEAKER_02\]: We'll boogie boarding a lot, but I love, I love the idea of surfing.
[37:35] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I want to try that.
[37:37] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I don't know where like what beach in California would be best to do that.
[37:41] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Obviously, I'd need an instructor or something to help me out.
[37:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But
[37:45] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, that's an adventure that I would like to do.
[37:48] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Or I want to go back to Thailand.
[37:50] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I went when I was younger for like a competition.
[37:54] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But I didn't really get to see much of the area because this was when I would my coach would like force me to skate every day so I couldn't take a day off.
[38:06] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And because of that, I was missing all the fun stuff that everyone else was doing.
[38:10] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I want to go back and kind of just explore.
[38:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And I heard there's good zip lining there.
[38:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So I want to do this.
[38:16] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, the planning is really fun.
[38:18] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I've done it once, so I feel like ever since I did it.
[38:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It just stayed in my head.
[38:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I want to do it again.
[38:23] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah, me too.
[38:24] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I kind of want to do that.
[38:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I haven't.
[38:27] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm afraid of heights, but it's one of those things where I feel like I'm not going to jump out of an airplane, but I'm not going to bungee jump.
[38:36] \[SPEAKER_03\]: But the zip lining I feel like is stable.
[38:38] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Something stable I could do that would kind of tick a box for me.
[38:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: So I feel like I want to do it.
[38:44] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I did it once.
[38:45] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Oh, did you enjoy it?
[38:47] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm moving cruise.
[38:48] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Whoa.
[38:49] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Yeah.
[38:51] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was one of those cruises that had the zip line and I did it.
[38:55] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I also had a really bad sunburn.
[38:58] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So when they put the harness on, I was like burning.
[39:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But it was fun.
[39:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I mean, you didn't know the ship was really moving.
[39:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It wasn't like when it was like a really rocky day that I zip line.
[39:09] \[SPEAKER_05\]: But it was just from one end to the other.
[39:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: It was kind of cool.
[39:12] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, well, that is cool.
[39:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So I would yeah, I'd zip line over.
[39:17] \[SPEAKER_05\]: I'm not jumping out of planes.
[39:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I feel like one G jumping would hurt.
[39:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: That's the only like I want to go.
[39:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yeah, I would never go bunchy jumping like that.
[39:26] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It just looks like our roots.
[39:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yes, I feel like my ankles would never recover.
[39:32] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, like it pulls you back up like up
[39:35] \[SPEAKER_01\]: I know why you're about to eat her because I feel like I will be one of them that will be there and go like Geronimo and John and then regret it.
[39:43] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, yeah, I think I would do it and then just be praying that it's over.
[39:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, I imagine your body would just be pulled and like, perhaps just crushing your eggs.
[39:59] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it's like no.
[40:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, it seems a little scary to me.
[40:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think there's a planning or something I could do.
[40:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Definitely.
[40:07] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think that could be fun.
[40:09] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[40:09] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Not a thing I wanted to ask a lady.
[40:11] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So, now that we are recording, we are, I think, three weeks away from your birthday.
[40:15] \[SPEAKER_01\]: Have you got any plans for that day?
[40:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Not really.
[40:20] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I kind of want to invite all my friends over and just throw a function or something.
[40:26] \[SPEAKER_02\]: But, um, yeah, I don't really have any
[40:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: plans yet i don't really plan anything for my birthday you know um yeah i don't really celebrate it i do but not really you know what i mean yeah we'll see we'll see well we really appreciate you coming back on with us and talking about last season and this coming season and everything else has been going on
[40:55] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And Gina, do you want to introduce the fun questions again?
[40:58] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Well, she should know that we do have fun questions.
[41:01] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Don't worry.
[41:02] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I can't remember this.
[41:03] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yes, but don't worry.
[41:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: We're not going to ask you that one question about the deserted island because you already answered that question.
[41:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, yeah.
[41:10] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[41:11] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So we have a couple different ones.
[41:14] \[SPEAKER_05\]: So the first one is if you were a fruit, which would you be and why?
[41:22] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I mean, I would probably be a mango, only because I eat so many, you know, we're like a lot of where you eat, I would be a mango.
[41:30] \[SPEAKER_03\]: What is the most awkward thing you've ever done?
[41:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Honestly, every time I have to give a speech, I don't have stage for it or anything.
[41:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I'm just really bad at talking sometimes and I never get a good script.
[41:43] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And so what I really want to say, it's not written now and I just kind of ramble about something off topic and it's always awkward.
[41:52] \[SPEAKER_03\]: That's something I feel like I'm still working on like rambling.
[41:56] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I also forget kind of the plot like I forget what I was supposed to talk about and so I just start talking about something and I try to circle back until I realized, wait, what was the original?
[42:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: So that also gets awkward because when I end my sentence, it doesn't make any sense.
[42:16] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I usually end up going on what we call little tangents.
[42:20] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like I'll go off on a topic and then again try to circle back and like you said, where was I going with this place?
[42:28] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think it's very common.
[42:30] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Or I do, is I'll walk into a room and go, why did I just walk into that room?
[42:34] \[SPEAKER_05\]: Yeah, so to do in that room.
[42:37] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And I'm just doing something completely out.
[42:39] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yep, you know.
[42:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You know what?
[42:40] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I've gotten used to if that happens to me, I just grab it on the water.
[42:44] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like out of the fridge.
[42:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'm like, I'm just gonna grab water.
[42:47] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I'll just go stay high.
[42:48] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It'll be a good thing.
[42:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Be hydrated.
[42:50] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's summer.
[42:51] \[SPEAKER_03\]: You need to be hydrated.
[42:53] \[SPEAKER_01\]: So the next question is if you wear a nice cage, would you be the left-skate or the right-skate?
[42:58] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, uh, the left.
[43:01] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And the final one, your granted three wishes.
[43:04] \[SPEAKER_05\]: What are they?
[43:05] \[SPEAKER_05\]: And you can't ask for more wishes.
[43:08] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh, one, just like do whatever I want.
[43:15] \[SPEAKER_02\]: It's so broad though, that's like too good of an ask.
[43:19] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Anyways, I welcome that.
[43:21] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Um,
[43:23] \[SPEAKER_02\]: I would ask to... Honestly, know how to shape shift.
[43:30] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Yes!
[43:33] \[SPEAKER_02\]: These are all like supernatural tasks, but I guess that's okay.
[43:38] \[SPEAKER_02\]: And then three, I would... Oh, I would ask to keep my memories forever.
[43:44] \[SPEAKER_02\]: Oh.
[43:45] \[SPEAKER_03\]: And so nice.
[43:46] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Oh, I like that one too.
[43:49] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah, because I feel like as you get older, you start to forget and then someone will remind you of something and you are like, how did I ever forget that?
[44:00] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Like it was such a cool thing, but you still.
[44:04] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[44:05] \[SPEAKER_03\]: I think our brains just get overloaded sometimes with everything that we're supposed to remember.
[44:11] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Yeah.
[44:12] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Even if I make a hundred lists, it's never enough.
[44:14] \[SPEAKER_03\]: It's never enough.
[44:17] \[SPEAKER_03\]: Thank you, Alyssa, for coming back on and talking to us and good luck this season.
