## Transcript

[0:02] A listener production.
[0:06] Wilhelm, this is our remembering project.
[0:08] Yep, where a random day of the year is selected and we look up the run sheets from all our shows from across the years to find any we did on that day.
[0:17] Over 20 years, that's about 2,500 shows and roughly 26,000 talk breaks.
[0:22] Today, we pick one.
[0:24] One talk break only and try to remember what happened based on what was written down on the run sheet from that day.
[0:29] As always, we've got podcast Mike with us here for any technical stuff.
[0:32] Hello.
[0:32] Mike, what date was randomly chosen today?
[0:35] Hello.
[0:35] It's the 18th of August.
[0:37] OK, then, it's Hamish go.
[0:39] Let's kick this off and find out what years Ham will take us back to and see if we remember anything from those years.
[0:47] This is Hamish and Andy's Remembering Project.
[0:54] Ando, 18th of August, another date rich in Hamish and Andy history.
[0:58] Great.
[0:59] Across the years.
[1:00] We've done, by my count, six shows on the 18th of August across the decades.
[1:07] Today's Rememberings...
[1:10] have a musical thread through them.
[1:12] Oh, all of them.
[1:13] I think all of them.
[1:14] Or some of the biggest ones.
[1:15] Some of the biggest ones.
[1:16] It just so happens to be that way.
[1:19] I must admit, I mean, I think we both did, but I loved having people on to see them play.
[1:24] Like, see?
[1:25] That's not the music I'm talking about.
[1:28] But I did.
[1:29] I did love that.
[1:30] That was always very special.
[1:31] There was that feeling, particularly when people went on to be huge and you see them on the way up, Mike, when you see someone there with just an acoustic guitar and you're like, oh, this person's good.
[1:41] But the difference was you loved having great musicians on the show.
[1:45] You take a musician over a star.
[1:47] Oh, absolutely.
[1:47] So there were sometimes people on the show that were famous and had done that part really well.
[1:51] Yep.
[1:52] And then could perform.
[1:54] Yep.
[1:54] But then there were other people on the show who were like, oh, I really feel like I'm seeing a musical genius.
[1:57] Yes.
[1:58] Those people, and they perhaps didn't have the massive profile of like a big star.
[2:03] But that was always very, very cool.
[2:05] I, what we've got from today is probably a bit more than the other end of the spectrum.
[2:10] Of skill?
[2:11] Because it's more, well, it's musical based.
[2:14] You'll see what I mean in a sec.
[2:15] But 18th of August, 2008, of course, if you're a sports fan,
[2:21] You'd know that was during the Olympic Games in Beijing.
[2:25] Oh, wow.
[2:25] You'd also know that that day the women's medley relay team had taken gold in the pool and we had with us in the studio, I believe, Liberty got Liesl Jones, Emily Seabom and Jess Shipper.
[2:39] So Steph Rice wasn't in the medley.
[2:41] I don't think she was.
[2:41] Well, is that the medley team or is that?
[2:43] That sounds like the medley team to me.
[2:46] Libra Tricket, Liesl Jones, Emily Seabomb, Jess Shipper?
[2:49] I think so.
[2:49] Yes.
[2:50] I think you're right because Shipper was Butterfly.
[2:52] Yes.
[2:52] Or Backstroke.
[2:53] Who was Backstroke?
[2:54] I think Seabomb's the main backstroke.
[2:56] Anyway, Mark.
[2:57] I don't know why we're looking.
[2:58] You've never been less… Sports is not my forte.
[3:00] Never been less prepared.
[3:01] But what level Pokemon…
[3:05] Does a Charmonkey evolve at?
[3:08] What's a really strong Pokemon really reliable?
[3:12] Well, if we're talking water Pokemon, maybe like a Squirtle's a good choice.
[3:16] So this is like... Or a Lapras.
[3:18] Imagine a team made of just Squirtles and Laprases and that's what Australia had at the Olympics and that's why we won gold.
[3:24] Pretty good.
[3:25] Yeah, well, the best actually, Mike, because that's what gold means.
[3:28] Anyway, those guys were in on that show and I remember they were there, like wet hair out of the pool.
[3:32] We were having a great time.
[3:32] We were...
[3:33] broadcasting next to the bird's nest in Beijing.
[3:36] It was an incredible time, wasn't it?
[3:37] It was awesome fun.
[3:38] And we had no legal right to be there because we didn't hold, our radio station didn't hold the rights to the Olympics so we couldn't say that word.
[3:46] Couldn't say the word Olympics.
[3:47] So we were at the Games in Beijing and there was just a lot of… Festival of sports.
[3:52] A lot of trying to get around.
[3:54] In a major city in China.
[3:55] Trying to get around saying that word.
[3:56] But every day on the show, this was the musical bit,
[3:59] I don't have audio from this but I wanted to ask you a question.
[4:01] Every now in the show we would do a thing called unknown anthems.
[4:03] Yes.
[4:03] So we would make up an anthem for a country…
[4:07] which now looking back, I probably just relied on sort of lazy stereotypes.
[4:10] Yeah, and probably verging on racist, I would say.
[4:13] Absolutely.
[4:13] These days you'd be nervous playing them.
[4:15] But it would be like a well-known song.
[4:18] So like say Chad, the small African nation of Chad, would be to the tune of Michael Jackson's Bad.
[4:23] So I remember that anthem was, you know, you know we're Chad, we're Chad.
[4:27] You know it.
[4:28] Vatican City to Paradise City.
[4:31] Take me down to the Vatican City where the grass is green and the girls are nuns.
[4:37] Right?
[4:37] Did they compete in the Olympic Games, the Vatican?
[4:39] That didn't bother us when we were coming up.
[4:41] We needed an unknown anthem that day.
[4:43] We wouldn't have many athletes.
[4:44] No, they wouldn't.
[4:45] And there'd be a lot of hoisting up the dresses to run.
[4:51] It's tough.
[4:51] It's tough if you're at Vatican City.
[4:53] The pole vault has a crossbar on it because you're on a giant crucifix.
[4:56] So it's tricky.
[4:58] All of the Vatican City sports are tricky.
[4:59] But...
[5:01] What was today's?
[5:02] It was China itself.
[5:04] Isn't it interesting the way the political climate's changed?
[5:05] Because we felt it was just great fun being in Beijing or whatever, but unfortunately with the way, like, international relationships are these days, you'd feel an element of nervousness being in China and going...
[5:15] I don't want to say the wrong thing.
[5:17] We didn't feel any of that in 2008.
[5:18] It was awesome fun.
[5:20] The Chinese government was just super welcoming.
[5:23] Everybody was really friendly.
[5:24] It was a great time.
[5:26] We had a frog's bum.
[5:27] I ate a frog's bum around the corner from our accommodation.
[5:29] Yeah, we had a lot of stuff that wasn't a traditional...
[5:33] food but what is really I mean it's just as weird to eat cow as a frog I suppose when you think about it so it just comes down to your cultural sensitivities but we would often we were friends with some of the people that work in the Channel 7 broadcast and they were all like in the nice hotels in the centre of Beijing like whatever it was like the Four Seasons or something and they weren't allowed to eat outside their hotel
[5:51] for fear of food poisoning or perhaps our weak Australian stomachs not being accustomed to the more robust street food of Beijing.
[5:59] But we were saying like miles out.
[6:02] We were out in like, you know, we're in the Parramatta of… Barely in China still.
[6:06] Yeah.
[6:07] I think we're in Taiwan.
[6:09] It was so far out of the city.
[6:11] And, you know, all the restaurants we were eating at, there was no English menus or whatever.
[6:15] It just wasn't a touristy area.
[6:17] Yeah.
[6:17] And when we would bring our friends from Channel 7 over, they would get really nervous and be like, we've been told we're not allowed to eat this stuff.
[6:22] We can't eat with you.
[6:23] We can't eat this stuff because we were just eating something on a stick.
[6:25] Yep.
[6:26] And it was great fun.
[6:27] So that day we had China's anthem on.
[6:31] I can't remember what song.
[6:32] I can't remember.
[6:32] And I've got the title and I still don't know what it would be.
[6:36] It's Three Cheers for China.
[6:39] Is that a song?
[6:40] Maybe we made an original.
[6:41] Three Cheers for China.
[6:42] Three Cheers.
[6:43] Like.
[6:45] Did we make an original?
[6:46] No.
[6:46] Why would you?
[6:48] When you've got, I mean, China's not a difficult word to rhyme with.
[6:51] No.
[6:52] I cannot remember at all what that song was.
[6:57] Maybe, Mike, if he Googles three.
[6:59] Three cheers for, it sounds like an old-timey.
[7:03] It does, doesn't it?
[7:03] There's a three cheers for America or three cheers for five years by May Day Parade.
[7:11] No, no, no.
[7:12] None of that's working for us.
[7:16] I think we have to press on.
[7:18] We've got to press on.
[7:19] Yeah.
[7:20] I'm sorry.
[7:21] My mind's a bit distracted because I'm trying to make China fit into Final Countdown by Jenny.
[7:25] The China Countdown.
[7:28] It doesn't really work.
[7:29] But I'm like, what is it?
[7:32] Hey there, Delilah.
[7:34] Three cheers to China.
[7:35] That's it.
[7:37] That is it.
[7:39] That's it.
[7:40] That three cheers is throwing me off.
[7:41] Why are we thinking three cheers?
[7:44] What are we from the 40s?
[7:49] And China, you've put on a hell of a game and we're going to give you the highest honour.
[7:53] Three cheers.
[7:55] Right, right.
[7:57] Yeah, it was to Hey There Delilah by the plain white T-shirts.
[8:00] Is that what they were called, those guys?
[8:02] Something plain white T's.
[8:03] Plain white T's.
[8:04] And that song was very big in 2008.
[8:06] That's it.
[8:07] Three cheers for China.
[8:09] You feel nice and you are pretty.
[8:12] Not as quite a grimy type of dirty city as they'd have you believe.
[8:18] Yeah, that's great.
[8:18] Yeah.
[8:19] All right, well done.
[8:20] That's really scratched an inch.
[8:21] Okay.
[8:22] When we got moved from Saturday morning show to the drive show,
[8:29] Our boss at the time, Craig Bruce, sat us down.
[8:34] Talking about, hey, just step up.
[8:36] You're now going to be a drive-thro to your show.
[8:37] Let's think about the kind of content that you want to do.
[8:39] What do you want to be known for?
[8:40] And he said, give up the songs, mate.
[8:43] Really?
[8:44] He said, no more songs.
[8:46] Because you're not the scared weird little guys.
[8:48] You're not the scared weird little guys.
[8:51] You're not the scared we're little guy.
[8:53] I mean, you look at Three Years for China and you go, you're out of point.
[8:56] Yeah, there we are, seven years later, still ignoring the advice.
[8:59] Well, fast forward one year after that, we're still ignoring the advice.
[9:03] Good.
[9:03] Because in 2009...
[9:06] In 2009, on the 18th of August, we were doing a wonderful show where that year we were gearing up to go on the American Caravan of Courage.
[9:15] The first time we'd done the Caravan of Courage outside of Australia, we'd already gone like left to right across Australia, bottom to top.
[9:21] We decided...
[9:22] We'd love to do America.
[9:23] Start in Miami on the east coast, bottom of the east coast, or drive all the way across the south, end up in Las Vegas.
[9:28] Drive in a caravan and… Stop in where we feel.
[9:31] We upgraded to an RV.
[9:32] We went to an RV.
[9:33] Sorry, I shouldn't say upgrade.
[9:34] Caravan, people are very specific about… Sorry, sidestep.
[9:36] Sidestep to an RV.
[9:38] And, yes, everywhere we stopped along the way, we would broadcast back to Australia.
[9:43] Obama had just been elected.
[9:44] Yes, we van was the catch cry of the, you know, of the trip.
[9:48] We were so excited.
[9:50] And from somewhere it came that we sort of wanted a purpose for the trip, Mike.
[9:54] We wanted sort of like, well, what are we going to do at the end when we make it to Vegas?
[9:59] And someone wrote in and said, hey, did you know they've invented actual hoverboards, right?
[10:04] Like real live hoverboards and you can get one but they're $10,000.
[10:09] I think so.
[10:10] Like, okay.
[10:11] Well, something – they're about sort of $5,000 or $6,000, $7,000 US.
[10:13] Yeah.
[10:14] So we came up with an idea.
[10:16] What if we had a telethon to raise $1,000, okay, $1,000 in this telethon to then take to Las Vegas and double up once and double up twice?
[10:27] We set it up, Mike, like a telethon would be for the Royal Children's Hospital or something like that.
[10:32] And callers could only pledge 10 cents.
[10:34] So everyone's maximum 10 cents.
[10:36] We're like, we just need 10,000 people across the two hours.
[10:40] The telethon ran for two hours, four to six one afternoon.
[10:42] We had like a phone area.
[10:44] Yep.
[10:45] And we had celebrities come in.
[10:46] Like Michael Klim, I think, came in to man the phones.
[10:50] The break I've got here is you're in the telly room, Andy.
[10:54] And Daryl Braithwaite is about to sing a rejigged version of Horses, but about our hoverboard.
[11:05] The 18th of August, 2009.
[11:07] We will fly three inches high Due to a propeller that blows out in the sun
[11:23] laughing, having fun It will be owned by the people's show And if the situation should keep us separated You know the world won't fall apart And you will free the beautiful board that hovers inside your heart Can't you hear them?
[11:52] she cries so loud you're right on water oh you make us proud that's the way it's gonna be few inches from the ground
[12:16] And if you're full, I'll pick you up, I'll pick you up.
[12:21] That's the way it's gonna be.
[12:23] You're gonna be a little darling.
[12:26] We're gonna ride along the power bar, yeah, yeah.
[12:32] Two inches from the ground.
[12:37] And if you fall, I'll pick you up.
[12:40] I'll pick you up.
[12:41] Everyone, come on.
[12:42] That's the way.
[12:43] It's a feeling dark.
[12:46] I can hear it.
[12:48] You're riding on the hoverboard.
[12:51] Yeah, yeah.
[12:53] You ain't just from the ground, little darling.
[12:58] Oh.
[12:59] And if you fall, I'll pick you up.
[13:01] I'll pick you up.
[13:02] Take it on, Daryl.
[13:04] That's the way.
[13:12] Oh, yeah.
[13:13] That's so nice.
[13:42] A few inches from the ground now.
[13:48] Yes, if that doesn't make people dig shallow and pledge ten cents.
[13:54] Thank you, Daryl.
[13:55] So we can get 10,000 pledges by the end of the show.
[13:59] So when we're in America on the caravan of courage, we leave in four days, we can bet that $1,000 and turn it into $9,000 and buy a hoverboard.
[14:07] Mate, take it from me, because I'm...
[14:09] A little bit too emotional.
[14:11] That is a country coming together with one of Australia's greatest musicians.
[14:15] Make sure you pledge.
[14:15] HamishandAndy.com.
[14:19] Wow.
[14:20] Wow.
[14:20] How?
[14:21] I mean, gamble responsibly.
[14:25] Get another example of gambling on the show.
[14:28] I mean, he went for it, didn't he?
[14:30] He did.
[14:31] I remember you assigned yourself, I'll go and do the backing.
[14:33] You did a great job probably towards the end.
[14:36] Am I doing the backing there?
[14:37] That was you doing the backing.
[14:39] I remember you going.
[14:40] You went in and said, I want to do, I know how to do it and I sing in a band and I know where to come in.
[14:46] Because I was like, should we both do it?
[14:48] And like, you've got to know exactly where to come in.
[14:51] Probably sounds like me.
[14:52] And then that second one, you were giving it real top eight Australian eyes.
[14:57] off on your own vibrato.
[14:59] Well, I mean, I thought...
[15:00] But then at the end, we all joined in.
[15:02] He's a guitarist.
[15:03] No, I think it was you.
[15:04] I'll take that.
[15:05] Mike, you actually were on a singing scholarship at school.
[15:09] Half.
[15:11] That was the maximum you could get.
[15:12] Okay.
[15:16] You couldn't, they didn't give full.
[15:18] Full level half-forward.
[15:20] Gotcha.
[15:21] And, well, how did you rate my backing vocals?
[15:23] Well, at first I was like, oh, is that Andy?
[15:24] But then it was like really good.
[15:26] And I was like, no, it must be the guitarist.
[15:28] There you go.
[15:29] I thought you did it because you'd written the lyrics and you're like...
[15:32] I don't want the cameras to be confused with the new ones.
[15:34] Maybe.
[15:35] I mean, I'll claim it, but no, I'm not sure.
[15:38] But my worry was when Daryl said everybody together, that's, I thought, when we all came in.
[15:42] Yeah, that's what I thought too.
[15:44] And that proved Craig Bruce's thought, I think, that we shouldn't be singing.
[15:50] Now, you're not going to believe this, but I think I've got a moment that tops even that.
[15:53] No way.
[15:54] After this.
[15:56] All right, so let's just draw a little trajectory here musically.
[15:59] 2008, you had the hit song Three Years for China to the tune of Hey There Delilah, right?
[16:04] Yeah.
[16:05] Oh, they can't do any better.
[16:06] Yeah.
[16:07] One year later, there we are with the hoverboard song, Daryl Braithwaite.
[16:10] Okay.
[16:10] Okay.
[16:10] That's enough.
[16:11] That's it.
[16:12] This show has given everything could ever give musically.
[16:16] The 18th of August in 2010 was a day that were living in for me.
[16:21] It was the day of the Frank Stallone concert.
[16:23] No way.
[16:24] We just loved that day.
[16:26] We loved singing on that day, didn't we?
[16:28] That was just a musical day for us.
[16:30] So for the people that are listening to this show, I assume most people come to the show with a fair bit of like, you know, backstory to it.
[16:37] We brought out Frank Stallone, Sylvester Stallone's brother.
[16:39] I think we… We mentioned this in one of the other shows.
[16:41] We'll cover other parts and stuff of it.
[16:43] But this was the actual day of the gig.
[16:44] We brought him out to the Forum to play in Melbourne.
[16:47] Huge sellout.
[16:48] The Frank effect was in full force.
[16:50] Contractually, he had to play, because there was a song called Far From Over.
[16:54] We made it.
[16:54] That was the song we'd been playing so much on the radio.
[16:57] It's a great song.
[16:58] It's a great song.
[16:58] We said, you're opening with it.
[17:00] Yep.
[17:00] You're closing with it.
[17:01] And we'd like one in the middle.
[17:03] We want one in the middle, and it's your encore.
[17:06] He had to play that song four times.
[17:07] Yeah.
[17:10] The day was amazing.
[17:12] So we actually did the show that day, I remember, from underground at the Forum, like the backstage at the Forum.
[17:18] We were getting ready for the gig.
[17:19] Cackling Jack, like Jack who now pushes the buttons on the podcast, he reformed his high school band to open, Last Chance.
[17:27] But we started, from memory, he was playing at the gym
[17:33] at lunchtime or recess.
[17:34] Yeah, the only time Last Chance played in year 11 or something, they played at lunchtime and they didn't get a good slot.
[17:40] And the gym doors weren't even open yet.
[17:42] Yep.
[17:43] So they played it to an empty auditorium before they could get the doors open.
[17:47] I think because, yeah, we tried to recreate a similar thing but because I think back in Jack's high school days, there were so many bands that wanted to play at lunchtime, you had to play at your slot and you like had to keep it tight between like 1 and 1.45.
[17:58] Right.
[17:59] So they were the one o'clock band.
[18:01] So literally there was like...
[18:03] starting up and then the doors opened.
[18:05] So that's what we wanted to recreate.
[18:07] Yes.
[18:07] So he played to a largely empty forum.
[18:09] Completely empty.
[18:10] And then people raced down to the front to recreate the Last Chance's last gig.
[18:16] So this is taken from that show that day.
[18:17] So we're getting ready for Frank's performance that night.
[18:20] The phone topic was when have you been horrifically underprepared in honour of Jack?
[18:24] Yeah.
[18:25] Not a joke because he was panicking going, we haven't.
[18:27] Because they wanted to do Single Ladies.
[18:29] Remember they played Single Ladies by Beyonce?
[18:31] They played a punk version of Single Ladies.
[18:33] Oh, right.
[18:34] And he's like, we haven't rehearsed it, we haven't done it.
[18:35] He was panicking, panicking.
[18:38] What I want to play everybody here is the audio from the parade.
[18:41] We blocked off a city street and we had a parade for Frank.
[18:45] Yes.
[18:45] The Lord Mayor, Robert Dahl.
[18:46] The Lord Mayor of Melbourne blocked off a street for us.
[18:49] Unveiled a plaque earlier on in the morning.
[18:51] Yep.
[18:52] That's since been stolen.
[18:53] Yeah.
[18:54] Yeah, it got jimmied off not long after.
[18:56] It was just liquid nails done to the side of… Of ACDC Lane, I think.
[19:01] But, yes, it was a plaque and we had a small curtain that we opened the plaque.
[19:05] So, a bunch of amazing listeners I remember on the show, like a Mustang, a convertible Mustang group, they rang up and they said, look, we'll provide the cars, like a collectible American car club.
[19:16] So, we're sitting in the back of a convertible with Frank.
[19:19] A singular bagpiper for no…
[19:20] I think a guy rang up and said, I can bagpipe.
[19:23] We said, we'll put that in the parade.
[19:24] We love that.
[19:24] And the piper led the parade out.
[19:26] And then so kind of in little Collins or little Flinders Lane, I think it was, Flinders Lane, in Melbourne, if you're familiar with the city, we just sort of drove around the corner from the forum.
[19:36] One block of Flinders Lane blocked off.
[19:39] Thousands of people turned up.
[19:42] You and I thought the joke might be no one being there.
[19:44] Yes, we were like, isn't this funny to block off a street?
[19:46] But you didn't need to because...
[19:48] you could just drive normally and slowly down the street.
[19:51] Frank, I mean, I still don't know how Frank felt about this whole trip because we were sitting there going, how hilarious is this, Frank?
[19:59] But he also had this air of, this seems about right.
[20:02] Yeah.
[20:03] So I think because I think the whole thing was he thought, we thought,
[20:08] that he was basically as big as Bieber.
[20:11] Yes.
[20:12] So he's sitting there going, oh, shit, I can't tell these guys that I'm actually not this big in America.
[20:16] Yeah.
[20:18] He thought he had to keep up appearances to us in case we turned around and went, hang on a sec, wasn't your last gig at a bar and grill when no one was listening?
[20:27] I mean, I'm not trying to say that to insult him, but I think we understood that but we were like, we want to celebrate you in Australia.
[20:32] Yeah.
[20:33] We also booked the billboard, the biggest billboard at the corner across from Flinders Street Station.
[20:40] So when he came out, he's seen thousands of people come and celebrate him as he's going down the street that's locked off.
[20:48] And then when he came out of that, he saw a big billboard himself.
[20:51] Yeah.
[20:51] which is what a lot of radio stations do.
[20:53] They actually buy the billboard that the presenter can see.
[20:57] Quite famously in Sydney when Kyle and Jackie were on Today FM Breakfast, you can see the billboard out the building from where you do the show.
[21:04] And even if no other billboards were purchased around Sydney at the time…
[21:07] There'd be a big Colin Jacky at the moment.
[21:09] Eddie Maguire gets the same track.
[21:10] Yeah, does he?
[21:11] So you walk out and you go, yep, there I am.
[21:13] Still on it.
[21:16] Let's pick up.
[21:17] So this is the parade?
[21:18] This is audio from the parade.
[21:20] I mean, it might be a mess, but I'd love to relive it.
[21:24] The 18th of August, 2010.
[21:25] 2010.
[21:28] We're one block away from where the parade commences.
[21:31] We're in the back of the Mustang.
[21:32] This is the hero vehicle for the parade.
[21:34] Thanks, Chris.
[21:35] Chris, thank you.
[21:36] No worries at all.
[21:38] Have you ever been in a parade before, Frank?
[21:40] Actually, no.
[21:40] Okay, well, I've done a lot of Easter bonnet parades, so you just stick by me if you need any advice.
[21:44] It's not great parade conditions, is it?
[21:46] This is like the St. Paddy's Day parade in New York.
[21:49] It's freezing.
[21:50] It's okay.
[21:50] Well, unfortunately, we've got no choice.
[21:53] Paraders ready!
[21:56] We've got a police escort here.
[21:57] Police ready.
[21:59] Just need a nod from the cops.
[22:00] We're ready.
[22:01] We're pulling out.
[22:02] Police are nodding.
[22:03] Dear Frank Parade spectators, we are 15 seconds away from official waiving duties.
[22:14] Everybody at home, we're just about to get to the parade area.
[22:17] There would be about 100 people I can see.
[22:18] There's a lone bagpiper.
[22:20] The lone bagpiper is in front.
[22:22] Attention, lone bagpiper.
[22:25] Warm your pipes.
[22:26] We are approaching the people of Melbourne.
[22:29] Welcome to the pre-commencement party of the parade for Frank Stallone.
[22:35] Once we cross this intersection, we will be in official parade mode.
[22:39] There's a protestor.
[22:39] We will be waving.
[22:40] Looks like there's a protestor sitting down on the...
[22:43] Whether he wants Frank to kiss him or something.
[22:45] There's someone lying across the road.
[22:47] Chris, dear Piper, you have permission to sweep the protestor out of the line.
[22:51] It's just a speed hunt, guys.
[22:53] It's okay.
[22:54] All right.
[22:55] Speed by.
[22:55] Here we go.
[22:56] We're approaching commencement of the parade.
[22:59] Big Ed Piping!
[23:00] Ladies and gentlemen!
[23:02] Ladies and gentlemen!
[23:03] We are now commencing the parade!
[23:05] The parade is silent!
[23:06] This is the parade!
[23:08] Mr Frank's delight, everybody!
[23:10] Hey!
[23:10] As Chris and his black Mustang hit a top speed of three kilometres an hour, we realised that what looked like 100 people at first was more like 1,000.
[23:18] This parade had really taken off.
[23:21] It's a good idea!
[23:21] Frank!
[23:21] Hey!
[23:22] Oh, these girls crying.
[23:23] These girls crying.
[23:26] They cannot believe it.

[23:44] Frank!
[23:45] Frank!
[23:45] Frank
[23:47] Franklin.
[23:47] Hey, so great to be here.
[23:49] Thank you.
[23:51] Wow.
[23:51] We did not expect a turn out like this.
[23:53] This is fabulous.
[23:54] Thank you, everybody.
[23:55] See you tonight.
[23:58] Yeah.
[24:02] A great example of a crowd builds a crowd as well.
[24:05] I reckon there's probably 500 people that have come for the way and then everyone's like, what's going on over there?
[24:12] Yeah, and also because it's like Swanston Street, which probably gets like 1,000 people every 10 seconds walking along it.
[24:19] Just the fact that we've created a bottleneck just automatically built up more of a crowd.
[24:24] But, yeah, again, now I remember listening back to it that it was like, yes, we were doing a mini parade one block, so... Yep.
[24:32] Probably the only parade in history where someone's on the megaphone yelling, commence parade.
[24:37] And we are in the parade.
[24:39] Then, all right, cease parade.
[24:41] The other thing I remember him saying, which I had no idea what he meant at the time, but he said, I feel like Limburg.
[24:47] And I went, all right.
[24:49] Is that what he said?
[24:50] Yeah.
[24:50] Yeah, right.
[24:51] And since you recommended me a book, actually, and now I know who Lindbergh is.
[24:56] Yeah, first person to fly across the Atlantic.
[24:58] And was just huge.
[24:59] It was the biggest celebrity of all time.
[25:00] Biggest celebrity of all time.
[25:01] So when he's like, but when he said that to two 25, six-year-olds.
[25:04] Yeah, it was a pretty deep cut, like, to go, oh, of course, the most famous aviator of the 20s.
[25:12] That's what we're all here for on a hit music station.
[25:16] Great remembering.
