## Transcript

[0:02] A listener production.
[0:06] Wilhelm, this is our remembering project.
[0:08] Yep, where a random day of the year is selected and we look up the run sheets from all our shows from across the years to find any we did on that day.
[0:17] Over 20 years, that's about 2,500 shows and roughly 26,000 talk breaks.
[0:22] Today, we pick one.
[0:24] One talk break only and try to remember what happened based on what was written down on the run sheet from that day.
[0:29] As always, we've got podcast Mike with us here for any technical stuff.
[0:32] Hello.
[0:32] Mike, what date was randomly chosen today?
[0:35] It's February 24th.
[0:36] Okay, then.
[0:38] It's Hamish go.
[0:39] Let's kick this off and find out what years Hamish will take us back to and see if we remember anything from those years.
[0:47] This is Hamish and Andy's Remembering Project.
[0:54] Yes, Ando.
[0:55] Welcome back to the bloody Rememberatorium.
[0:58] Here we go.
[0:59] Going to do some big remembering.
[1:00] Mind me the first show.
[1:02] Yeah, I'm just saying welcome back for this show.
[1:03] Okay.
[1:04] Yeah, I know we should record him out of order.
[1:06] I'm an idiot.
[1:07] I am an idiot, but I do know we record him out of order.
[1:10] Anyway, bit of an interruption there from the lead.
[1:12] I'm just trying to technical me.
[1:14] Nah, some bloody good stuff coming up, mate.
[1:16] We're going to remember this shit out of it.
[1:18] Coming up after this, remember or die.
[1:21] Who will win a classic lead dog versus H-bomb?
[1:26] It's not a, you know, triple M drive show.
[1:28] We don't need to.
[1:30] Start the shows like that.
[1:32] We're only a few seasons in.
[1:33] We're still figuring it out.
[1:34] That's true.
[1:34] It could be that.
[1:35] Well, it won't be that now since that test didn't go.
[1:38] I was blocking.
[1:40] Okay, so Feb 24.
[1:42] A lot of things happened on Feb 24.
[1:45] Here's a fun fact.
[1:46] You know how sometimes we like to do the fun fact?
[1:47] Because I would have thought the start of a year, are we coming out guns blazing or are we just easing into it?
[1:53] It's just long enough into the year that we've had to start doing something.
[1:59] It's not Jan 24.
[2:00] We usually come back middle of January, you know, end of January.
[2:04] You definitely don't, yeah, you have a slow walk up.
[2:07] Yep.
[2:07] Having said that, the Feb 24,
[2:09] 2005, 6, 7 and 8, no shows.
[2:11] So we did enjoy a sleep in after Christmas for those years.
[2:15] Then we started kicking things off.
[2:17] A couple of them, before I get to what I want to talk about for this particular episode, that was one of the years in 2009, that was the year that we were getting ready to take the tall ship across.
[2:29] That we were well and truly into the swing of our plan to take the tall ship to Tasmania.
[2:33] Do you remember who we got to bless the crossing?
[2:39] Oh, right.
[2:39] Because remember, whenever you do anything on radio, you need about four weeks of nonsense lead-up content.
[2:45] You don't just do the thing.
[2:47] No, you can't do the thing.
[2:47] Someone writes a jingle.
[2:49] Yep.
[2:50] You know, we've been through this, I think, before.
[2:52] You call up Thirsty Merc.
[2:53] They pretend to be checking the calendar.
[2:55] They come down and play the farewell show.
[2:57] Yeah.
[2:57] So you have four weeks of admin that you're getting content out of.
[3:00] Yeah.
[3:01] So we would have got a blessing.
[3:03] Was it Jesse Martin or something?
[3:04] Was it someone… That's a great one.
[3:05] That's a great guess.
[3:06] I would never have remembered this.
[3:07] It's one of those ones where you look at the run sheet.
[3:09] I'm looking at the run sheet for the old.
[3:11] Sean, I'm like, oh, yeah, that absolutely seems what we would have done.
[3:13] And if people don't know, we took a tall ship from Melbourne to Hobart.
[3:17] It was meant to be a barrel of laughs, but everyone got sick.
[3:21] It was a huge hurricane.
[3:21] Well, on this very show, I was pushing to rename the ship and everyone was calling up going, it's bad luck you can't rename the ship because we called it the Tawley Shore.
[3:29] That's right.
[3:30] And I renamed it anyway.
[3:32] And there was a lot of like, oh, you can't do that.
[3:34] It's bad luck.
[3:34] Turns out it was.
[3:35] We almost died.
[3:36] So fun one to go back on.
[3:39] David Boone blessed the crossing.
[3:41] Really?
[3:42] David Boone.
[3:43] That's amazing.
[3:44] Australian cricket legend.
[3:44] You probably don't even know who David Boone is, Mike.
[3:46] No.
[3:47] I thought it might have been Lord Mayor John Soe or something.
[3:50] We needed a Taswegian to bless it.
[3:53] You needed like a host country to bless it, not a leaving.
[3:56] David Boone's a famous cricketer.
[3:58] Okay.
[3:58] He was portly with a moustache and famous for drinking a hell of a lot, breaking the record for the amount of beers drunk from Melbourne to London.
[4:07] Before that.
[4:08] Isn't it amazing?
[4:09] He'd be one of the greatest cricketers of all time, but then one generation later someone just goes…
[4:13] Cool.
[4:17] And what else did you like doing with your time?
[4:20] I mean, he's now the match referee.
[4:22] Oh.
[4:23] This is not getting any more interesting.
[4:25] That's cool.
[4:25] So if you want to follow his more current stuff.
[4:28] He's now interested in upholding the rules and making sure the ball's the correct shape.
[4:32] Yeah.
[4:33] Don't Google it, Mike.
[4:34] We've told you all the interesting stuff.
[4:36] Okay, so that was… That surprised me.
[4:39] That was 29.
[4:39] Because Boonie doesn't do much.
[4:41] 2009.
[4:41] Then after 2009, like, that was such a fun adventure.
[4:43] That was like a big… That was a big deal.
[4:46] Obviously, we came back the next year and went, how do we match that?
[4:49] Like, you know, you want to keep excitement levels high for the duration of the show.
[4:52] Yeah.
[4:53] In 2010, somehow we did match it.
[4:55] We were giving away a bull.
[4:57] Oh.
[4:58] From a stock and land, which is the agriculture newspaper, they had to win a bull raffle.
[5:03] That's right.
[5:04] You had to fill out.
[5:05] And we just assumed we'd win it because we tried to rig it.
[5:07] We flooded it.
[5:08] We bought thousands and thousands of copies of the stock and land.
[5:11] Our plan was we would win the bull, then we would give it away in a secondary raffle.
[5:16] Yes.
[5:16] I think we had from memory about 80% of the tickets.
[5:18] Yeah.
[5:19] We encouraged all our listeners to go to this one stock of land magazine and try and fill out a form on our behalf so we could win the bull.
[5:28] Do you know it was like early days GameStop, Dogecoin, market manipulation, but with the raffle for a bull.
[5:36] And we didn't win it.
[5:38] We didn't.
[5:38] We assumed we would.
[5:41] We thought this bull was a lock, Mike.
[5:43] On the day, we were like, and when do we get our bull?
[5:45] And then the guy's like, well, no, Noel and Carol Phillips won it.
[5:51] They were like, oh, we hadn't actually anticipated that outcome.
[5:56] So that was a big… I would love to at some point speak to someone from Stock and Land magazine and go, was it rigged?
[6:03] Yeah.
[6:04] Because they didn't want… And the same way that, you know, in America the share market doesn't want people to be able to manipulate the share price like GameStop and…
[6:12] And the things that people just get on Reddit forums and they don't want that.
[6:16] No.
[6:16] But it's powerful.
[6:17] That's very powerful.
[6:17] And we were very powerful trying to win that bull.
[6:19] And I think you're right, Ando.
[6:20] I think unbeknownst to us, we were quashed.
[6:22] So it wasn't that that I've picked because that was a big letdown.
[6:26] What I've picked is from 2014.
[6:27] Oh.
[6:28] This is what I believe to be the very first of something that's given us joy over the years, so much joy.
[6:34] But I reckon the first one of these had something special in it.
[6:37] Mm-hmm.
[6:38] It was our first ever rattle your rivals call.
[6:44] Is it to my brother and his mate?
[6:45] I think.
[6:46] So it was to one of your brother's mates?
[6:49] Yeah.
[6:49] I think we did a series of them maybe in the one show.
[6:53] It was the lead up to our like annual cricket match.
[6:57] Your brothers had a team called the Beamers.
[6:59] Yep.
[7:00] You were captaining our team, which was the Mancads.
[7:02] Yes.
[7:03] So, you know, 11 versus 11 just like, you know, at a domestic cricket ground on the weekend.
[7:08] All old friends.
[7:09] Yep.
[7:10] But, you know, yeah, your brothers are your level.
[7:12] Our year level.
[7:12] Yep.
[7:12] Yep.
[7:13] And it was fierce.
[7:14] I mean, the rivalry was fiercer than anyone could play, like, games-wise.
[7:18] And so the idea was to lull someone who I can't remember who we're called, but lull them into a false sense of security.
[7:25] I'm not sure which one you've got.
[7:26] It may be a mega mix of all of them, but...
[7:29] We ring someone.
[7:30] It's pretty mean.
[7:31] Very mean.
[7:32] That's how we rattle them.
[7:33] You ring someone and tell them that something great is happening in their life.
[7:38] Tailor-made to them.
[7:40] And then right when they can't believe that basically something they've dreamt of for ages is coming true, you tell them that their team sucks, which is the beamers sucking in this case.
[7:52] Which is this, that stings to hear.
[7:54] And then it unravels in their brain to go, oh.
[7:58] If they're saying that, I haven't won the showcase.
[8:02] Let's have a listen.
[8:03] This is the first one.
[8:03] Actually, before that, we might just hear from the sponsor.
[8:06] Oh, my God.
[8:07] Yeah, do that.
[8:09] Sorry, I was too excited to get into the Rattle Your Rivals.
[8:11] All right, here we go.
[8:11] As far as we can tell, the very first ever Rattle Your Rivals call where we tried to completely demoralize a member of the opposition cricket team from the Beamers.
[8:23] The 24th of February, 2014.
[8:28] We've got a new man coming to the team.
[8:30] A new man the other team won't know.
[8:32] It's Danny.
[8:32] He does our sound for us here.
[8:34] He's our audio genius.
[8:36] Look, we get Danny to actually work his way through the whole of the Beamers team.
[8:41] Is this a waste of their time?
[8:42] Yes.
[8:43] Is this an immature thing for us to be doing by wasting their day, essentially calling up to say, Beamers suck?
[8:50] Maybe.
[8:51] Are we still happy we did it?
[8:54] Yeah.
[8:55] Definitely.
[8:56] It's what we needed to give us the edge.
[8:58] Cam Lee and his brother and Zoo Fight band member.
[9:02] Hello, Cam speaking.
[9:03] G'day, Cam.
[9:03] It's Sam from... Hey, mate.
[9:04] How are you going?
[9:05] Yeah, pretty good.
[9:06] How are you?
[9:07] Not so bad, not so bad.
[9:08] Good.
[9:08] Now, Cam, as you know with Lions, we run festivals and we're looking to run a couple of shows around Melbourne Cup.
[9:17] Yeah.
[9:18] What's Zoo Fight's schedule like around that time of year?
[9:21] Yeah, we're looking pretty good at this stage, yeah.
[9:23] Yeah.
[9:24] Yeah, because it's going to be a few gigs, so it might be maybe a Friday, Saturday, Sunday night sort of thing.
[9:30] Yep.
[9:31] Would that be something you guys would be up for?
[9:33] Yeah, we'd be fairly interested in that, mate.
[9:34] Yeah, definitely, definitely.
[9:36] That's the other thing.
[9:36] We will negotiate price a bit later.
[9:38] Yep.
[9:40] One thing that's probably worth pointing out is the Beamers suck.
[9:45] The Beamers suck.
[9:46] Yeah, right.
[9:50] You heard the man, Cam.
[9:54] Baker, Managing Director.
[9:57] Andrew speaking.
[9:58] Yeah, g'day, Andrew.
[9:59] It's Alex Gray from marketing at Giant Bikes.
[10:01] How are you?
[10:01] Yeah, good, mate.
[10:02] Yourself?
[10:03] Yeah, not too bad.
[10:04] So firstly, we're looking to be, I guess, a bit more interactive with our social followers online, and we want to have a, I guess it's like a new selling system where we can sort of sell every individual part of our bike.
[10:19] Yeah.
[10:20] Sorry.
[10:20] What?
[10:21] I also, I've got, sorry, someone else is just saying here, beamers suck.
[10:25] Yeah.
[10:26] No.
[10:30] Oh, you bastard.
[10:32] Hello, it's Nathan.
[10:35] Yeah, g'day, Nathan.
[10:36] It's Ben Andrews from Flash Entertainment.
[10:38] How are you going?
[10:39] Great, Ben.
[10:40] Yeah, good.
[10:41] I saw you MC recently at a Melbourne Tigers match.
[10:46] Is that correct?
[10:47] Yeah, that'd be me.
[10:49] Yeah, great.
[10:49] I was wondering, look, we're looking to do a few behind-the-scenes sort of videos at a few upcoming music festivals, and we were wondering if we could get you in for these gigs.
[11:01] It sounds great.
[11:02] Yeah, and they are paid gigs as well.
[11:05] Yeah, great.
[11:06] Also, Beamers suck.
[11:11] Say again?
[11:12] The Beamers suck.
[11:13] Yeah.
[11:16] You suck, Beavers!
[11:17] Sorry, mate.
[11:19] Hang up.
[11:20] Tim Santamaria, Jobless.
[11:22] Hello, Tim speaking.
[11:24] Yeah, g'day, Tim.
[11:24] It's Dave Fulton from Admin at Cricket Australia.
[11:27] How are you going?
[11:27] Good.
[11:28] Well, yourself?
[11:29] Yeah, good, good.
[11:29] Now, we heard that you were interested in working within admin for the ICC World Cup.
[11:35] Is that correct?
[11:36] Yeah.
[11:37] Yeah, great.
[11:38] Basically, what we've got coming up is it's like a player liaison role.
[11:41] Okay.
[11:42] We think you'd be a pretty good candidate for it.
[11:45] It does start in July.
[11:46] Sure.
[11:48] Also, the Beamers suck.
[11:54] Did you get that?
[11:55] Yeah, yeah, I got that.
[11:57] Yeah, I got that.
[11:58] Message delivered.
[12:00] There you go.
[12:01] The psychological edge for us, Ham.
[12:03] I wish we could do it all day, every day.
[12:05] Except, unfortunately, there's only 11 guys in the team.
[12:08] However, there's still one more we were able to get.
[12:10] The fellow's called Mike Hutchins.
[12:11] Lovely guy.
[12:12] He's got a great software business, financial modelling business.
[12:15] Runs himself.
[12:16] Runs himself.
[12:16] That is going from strength to strength.
[12:18] We thought today it'd be great to call him or get Danny to call him as someone from Macquarie Bank.
[12:23] Which is, I mean, I think if you're running your own business in the financial world, this is a big deal.
[12:27] Absolutely.
[12:28] And let's see how he responds to a good news call from Macquarie Bank when it ends with the fact that his cricket team sucks.
[12:37] David.
[12:38] Yeah, how you going, mate?
[12:40] Yeah, good, mate.
[12:40] Have we met before directly?
[12:42] Oh, no, we haven't.
[12:43] No, no, I'm in Sydney.
[12:45] Oh, cool, cool.
[12:46] No, I've sort of had many friends through Macquarie, and I've sort of known quite a few people from Macquarie over the years, but I've been AWOL for quite a few years doing this software, and I'm sort of coming out of a hole now and keep on forgetting who I've met and who I haven't.
[12:57] No, that's fine, mate.
[12:58] No, we definitely haven't met.
[13:00] Well, basically, at Macquarie, we're looking to form a few new sort of partnerships.
[13:06] Yeah.
[13:07] with financial modelling companies and that's what you do, isn't it?
[13:12] Absolutely, yeah.
[13:12] Yeah, great.
[13:13] What we're essentially trying to do is build large investment partnerships with sort of smaller-based companies like yours.
[13:20] Yeah.
[13:21] Yeah.
[13:22] But I mean, so with regards to, because I mean, we're basically a company that has historically, we've historically been a business modeling company.
[13:30] I actually used to work at Citigroup at Solom Subbani in investment banking.
[13:33] And I left to focus purely on the modeling role because one of the big clients, which was back then was TXU.
[13:39] Okay.
[13:39] Yeah, yeah.
[13:40] But TXU, basically, I was doing a lot of M&A with TXU and they...
[13:44] They loved the modelling I was doing.
[13:45] And I didn't think that the modelling was being addressed properly because I was obviously doing IMs and due diligence and data rooms.
[13:51] And I was like, somebody should be doing this as a standalone skill.
[13:54] And we actually released a program about three or four weeks ago.
[13:58] Actually, I'll just stop you there.
[14:00] Beamers suck.
[14:03] The Beamers suck?
[14:04] Yeah, Beamers suck.
[14:05] Yeah.
[14:05] What do you mean?
[14:06] Beam is stuck.
[14:08] How can you say that?
[14:09] Because it's the truth.
[14:11] You're going down, Hutch.
[14:12] Hang on, Josh.
[14:13] It's just a joke.
[14:14] Oh, my God.
[14:15] Beam is stuck.
[14:19] Oh, jeez.
[14:20] Better than I remembered.
[14:22] I mean...
[14:24] I can't even remember the game, but they had every right to come out and just attack us.
[14:29] I don't know whether we won or not.
[14:31] I can't remember.
[14:32] I think we got them because it never got to 4-1.
[14:37] No, it didn't.
[14:37] And we know, and I mean, look, you know, first of all, running rivals, great success.
[14:42] We owe a lot to Danny, really.
[14:44] That was a masterclass.
[14:46] He was a bit out of his depth when the financial modelling came out.
[14:48] Danny's going to stop you.
[14:50] Beamer's like, this is a joke.
[14:51] Yeah.
[14:52] It was a long pitch from the financial bubbling.
[14:55] But eight years later, we still love it.
[14:58] They come in all the time on the regular podcast.
[15:00] We love doing them.
[15:01] Love a round of the arrivals.
[15:03] We realise, though, in those cricket games, because we drink during the game, no one's ever won fielding.
[15:10] Second.
[15:11] Because you drink, you spend the whole time while you're batting, just drinking, drinking, drinking.
[15:15] Then you get out in the field to field second and you can't catch the ball, go through your legs, clunking off your head.
[15:21] That's basically, we should all just get together and toss the coin.
[15:25] Toss the coin.
[15:26] That's basically what we're getting together for those games.
[15:28] Great remembering.
[15:29] Really good remembering.
