[1:15] Speaker 3: Well? Are they playing county fairs.
[1:18] Speaker 2: I think they are.
[1:19] Speaker 3: I hope they're doing something.
[1:20] Speaker 2: I don't know.
[1:21] Speaker 3: God speed, Cherry Pop and Daddies.
[1:23] Speaker 2: I stop getting the newsletter.

[1:25] Speaker 2: Yeah, I still got all the stickers on my car. Okay,
[1:30] Speaker 2: that's a good one. That is that is very ridiculous. Now,
[1:34] Speaker 2: how about another ridiculous one. A dude who's down on
[1:37] Speaker 2: his luck, feeling a little stuck, and he needs to
[1:39] Speaker 2: make a quick score of big cash. The best idea
[1:42] Speaker 2: he can come up with is to kidnap a famous
[1:44] Speaker 2: person's child and hold that kid for ransom. Oh, the
[1:46] Speaker 2: famous person who's kid he decides to grab is Frank Sinatra.
[1:52] Speaker 2: You're like, wait, what, why would you possibly? There's so
[1:54] Speaker 2: many other celebrities of kids to take. Bro that is
[1:56] Speaker 2: like probably the worst.
[1:57] Speaker 3: Celebrity bad life choice.
[1:59] Speaker 2: You know, his friends are like mob bosses like brot bit. Anyway,
[2:03] Speaker 2: So as dumb as this plan sounds, things go even
[2:05] Speaker 2: wilder than you might imagine. This is a strange cast
[2:08] Speaker 2: of characters. We've got Sam Giancana, mob boss. We got
[2:10] Speaker 2: jaygar Hoover, head of the FBI. We've got Jan from
[2:13] Speaker 2: Jan and Dean. Yeah, and uh, this one will surprise you.
[2:18] Speaker 2: So you're ready to hear about the dumb lucky kidnapping
[2:21] Speaker 2: of Frank Sinatra Junior.
[2:22] Speaker 3: Bring it on.
[2:42] Speaker 2: This is Ridiculous Crime, a podcast about absurd and outrageous
[2:46] Speaker 2: kpers heists and cons. It's always ninety nine percent murder
[2:50] Speaker 2: free and one hundred percent ridiculous. Okay, it's the nineteen sixties.
[2:55] Speaker 2: In fact, it's the start of the nineteen sixties, and
[2:57] Speaker 2: the coolest men in the world are the rat Pack.
[3:00] Speaker 2: You know where the rat Pack are, right?
[3:01] Speaker 3: Yes?
[3:02] Speaker 2: Who are they?
[3:03] Speaker 1: Me?
[3:03] Speaker 3: You and your dog out, producer Dave.
[3:08] Speaker 2: And also Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior.
[3:11] Speaker 2: We're a swell group, right, So they were in nineteen
[3:15] Speaker 2: sixty like the Kreme de la Creme, the coolest people.
[3:17] Speaker 2: They're movie stars. They are singing all around the world.
[3:21] Speaker 2: They are carousing all the time in Vegas. They're living
[3:25] Speaker 2: up the high life. That pretty much everybody who equates
[3:28] Speaker 2: as like, you know, the playboy lifestyle. That's them at
[3:31] Speaker 2: the time when America is at it's peak prosperity. So
[3:34] Speaker 2: basically you're standing being the coolest men. It's the peak
[3:37] Speaker 2: of America's history.
[3:39] Speaker 3: It the rat pack top of the heap.
[3:43] Speaker 2: I'm kidding. So their lifestyle gets turned into a film,
[3:47] Speaker 2: you know, the film as Ocean's Eleven. That film pretty
[3:50] Speaker 2: much captures a vibe that is stayed America's idea of cool.
[3:55] Speaker 2: You know, it is like pretty much, you know, Steven
[3:57] Speaker 2: Soderberg has made a career out of kind of aping
[3:59] Speaker 2: the feel of that concious. Maybe not exactly the visuals,
[4:02] Speaker 2: but the feelings, and you know.
[4:04] Speaker 3: Good for him, but the elixir of it.
[4:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a good word. I like that. They're elixir
[4:08] Speaker 2: of cool them anyway. So the same year, Frank Sinatra
[4:11] Speaker 2: also made a big switch from Capitol Records and he
[4:14] Speaker 2: started his own record company, Reprise Records. And Reprise ended
[4:17] Speaker 2: up being one of the first record companies that an
[4:20] Speaker 2: artist had as an independent holding. So they were like,
[4:22] Speaker 2: I now have my own record company. Before Frank Sinatra,
[4:26] Speaker 2: nobody could do that. And they, you know, they were
[4:28] Speaker 2: involved in all the you know, Paola and these scams,
[4:30] Speaker 2: and it was like everybody know, the Mob was involved.
[4:32] Speaker 2: The music industry was and remained really shady, right, So
[4:36] Speaker 2: he tried to kind of take control. So he gets
[4:38] Speaker 2: the Mob to back him, and he gets the reprise
[4:41] Speaker 2: records of his own. Eventually he sells it for a huge,
[4:43] Speaker 2: like huge windfall for him. It works out great. So
[4:46] Speaker 2: now everybody else starts wanting to do it. It doesn't
[4:48] Speaker 2: go badly right now. I don't know. I grew up
[4:51] Speaker 2: in a house where my dad revered Frank Sinatra, so
[4:53] Speaker 2: I heard him and the Temptations and the Four Tops,
[4:56] Speaker 2: and like, I basically heard Motown and Frank Sinatra and
[4:58] Speaker 2: Dean Martin and Sammy Davis and you're actually all of
[5:00] Speaker 2: them all the time. From my father, he.
[5:03] Speaker 3: Was just at one.
[5:04] Speaker 2: Just he just put the needle on on the records
[5:06] Speaker 2: five record five record players make him compete, and I
[5:09] Speaker 2: had to just dance in front of each one and
[5:11] Speaker 2: amuse him and his friends. No, this is not at all.
[5:14] Speaker 2: So he would just be playing Frank Sinatra, and to
[5:16] Speaker 2: me that was like the height of cool. Basically it
[5:18] Speaker 2: was Motown and the Rapack. Those are the two ideas
[5:20] Speaker 2: of cool.
[5:21] Speaker 3: Sorr, I'm just dance. What did you do to comphony of
[5:26] Speaker 3: all these competing songs? Dance there?
[5:28] Speaker 2: Come on, your uncle wants to see you move. So
[5:32] Speaker 2: but like, I have no idea what other people like,
[5:34] Speaker 2: how they view like Frank Sinatra. To me, he is America.
[5:37] Speaker 2: But what is he to you? Like, when I say
[5:38] Speaker 2: Frank Snatcher, what do you think of.
[5:41] Speaker 3: I think of Las Vegas most certainly, and I kind
[5:44] Speaker 3: of was he like a Palm Springs fixture.
[5:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, late later in life, a house of.
[5:48] Speaker 3: Frank Sinatra that I always think of, where he's like
[5:51] Speaker 3: in like a Kashmir Cardigan.
[5:54] Speaker 2: Mm hmm, yeah, that's late life Frank swanming around. So
[5:57] Speaker 2: you know, like sixties peak Frank, late life Frank. Did
[6:00] Speaker 2: you know anything of like, you know, Academy Award winning
[6:02] Speaker 2: fifties Ava Gardner, Frank or forties Tommy Dorsey's Okay, So
[6:09] Speaker 2: do you think of him as being like a central
[6:11] Speaker 2: figure in American history? Oh? Certainly, Okay, Yeah, that's good
[6:14] Speaker 2: because he was, you know, he helps get Kennedy elected?
[6:16] Speaker 3: Is that the right answer?
[6:17] Speaker 2: What if I said no, I would have just gotten
[6:19] Speaker 2: up and left.
[6:20] Speaker 3: Thank god I answered correctly no.
[6:23] Speaker 2: But like you know, like, and I want everybody who's
[6:25] Speaker 2: unaware that it seems silly, but Frank Snatcher was a
[6:28] Speaker 2: central figure of American history in so many ways, right,
[6:31] Speaker 2: So keep in mind that's the person that this guy
[6:35] Speaker 2: decides to kidnap his son. Now, what's meet our kidnapper? Yes,
[6:40] Speaker 2: twenty three year old Barry Keenan is a California kid.
[6:44] Speaker 2: Grew up in LA. His father's a stockbroker. Goes to
[6:46] Speaker 2: like UNI High in Santa Monica. He has what we
[6:49] Speaker 2: call a comfortable.
[6:50] Speaker 3: Life, right, yeah, sure.
[6:52] Speaker 2: Post World War two fifties is his childhood.
[6:55] Speaker 3: Ouzsy and Harriet very Ouzzy.
[6:56] Speaker 2: And Harriet very much like you know La during the
[6:59] Speaker 2: boom the aerospace industry. So it's just like, oh, go
[7:02] Speaker 2: go and jets anyway.
[7:04] Speaker 3: So jets.
[7:06] Speaker 2: He's like best friends is with Dean Torrance. This is
[7:09] Speaker 2: his kid, right. Dean Torrance turns out to be later
[7:12] Speaker 2: on be the other half of the surf music duo
[7:15] Speaker 2: Jan and Dean. He's also friends with Nancy Sinatra. These
[7:20] Speaker 2: are the kind of kids he's growing up with. You know,
[7:22] Speaker 2: he's in high school, he just gets you an idea.
[7:24] Speaker 2: He goes off, leaves high school, you know, graduates, goes
[7:26] Speaker 2: to UCLA. He's a bruin, doesn't really have it in
[7:29] Speaker 2: him to do the college life. He's like, I don't
[7:32] Speaker 2: drop out. His dad's like he's not a bruin, and
[7:34] Speaker 2: he's like his father's like, look, son, we need to
[7:37] Speaker 2: get you set up in life. So here's some stock
[7:40] Speaker 2: tips and some money to get you started, and why
[7:42] Speaker 2: don't you go and make yourself a fortune? And he does.
[7:45] Speaker 2: The dude goes out, he digs money from his dad.
[7:47] Speaker 2: At age twenty one, he's the youngest member of the
[7:50] Speaker 2: LA Stock Exchange.
[7:51] Speaker 3: Wow.
[7:51] Speaker 2: By age twenty two, he is now a real estate developer.
[7:55] Speaker 3: Dang Barry.
[7:55] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, Barry is killing it right, But unfortunately life
[8:00] Speaker 2: it's all about change. So Barry has a real early
[8:03] Speaker 2: peak and then crashes, real hard, real quick. Right. It's
[8:06] Speaker 2: a lot of stress. You know. He's going to leading
[8:08] Speaker 2: a go go active lifestyle, a busy on mygal lifestyle,
[8:11] Speaker 2: and it just couldn't keep up. So he starts to
[8:14] Speaker 2: lose money and then that leads to basically stress, which
[8:18] Speaker 2: leads to an episode of mental illness, and he starts drinking.
[8:20] Speaker 2: He starts doing more drugs. He gets injured. They gets
[8:23] Speaker 2: in a car accident after a dog runs across the street,
[8:25] Speaker 2: and then he starts having to do Perkidan. So he's
[8:27] Speaker 2: trying to, like, you know, manage the pain. It's very common.
[8:30] Speaker 2: You hear about it now. But back then people weren't
[8:32] Speaker 2: really thinking about him as the victim. It's just like, oh,
[8:34] Speaker 2: now you got a drug problem, bro. So anyway, while
[8:37] Speaker 2: he's dealing with all of this, his father starts losing
[8:40] Speaker 2: his fortune. Oh yes, it gets real bad. So he decides, oh, man,
[8:44] Speaker 2: I need to do something to save myself, save my family.
[8:47] Speaker 2: You know what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna get two
[8:50] Speaker 2: hundred and forty thousand dollars. That's what I need. He
[8:53] Speaker 2: just picks this number, two hundred and forty thousand dollars. Now,
[8:55] Speaker 2: it just to translate, that's about two million dollars in
[8:58] Speaker 2: today's money.
[8:59] Speaker 3: I think those people would be like, you know what
[9:01] Speaker 3: I need. I just need two million dollars to get
[9:03] Speaker 3: everything running on track.
[9:04] Speaker 2: My family be saved, I'd be saved. Mam would just
[9:07] Speaker 2: finally smile, Dad would finally talk to her.
[9:09] Speaker 3: Again, would finally loved me. Exactly two million.
[9:13] Speaker 2: Also, by the way, you have to keep in mind
[9:15] Speaker 2: old Barry. Remember I said thing about the little bit
[9:17] Speaker 2: of an episode of mental illness. God told him his
[9:20] Speaker 2: plan of how to get this money. So he's like,
[9:22] Speaker 2: I need two to forty thousand dollars. He puts the
[9:24] Speaker 2: prayers up, and God's like, I hear you, Barry, here's
[9:26] Speaker 2: the answer.
[9:27] Speaker 3: So did he have like auditory hallucinations you think.
[9:30] Speaker 2: I don't know if it's internal, like you know, if
[9:32] Speaker 2: he was hearing God's voice, like the little voice inside
[9:34] Speaker 2: and saying that's God telling him, or if you's literally
[9:36] Speaker 2: hearing your voice outside of himself.
[9:38] Speaker 3: He's like, I see, if I see a seagull in
[9:40] Speaker 3: the next five minutes, it means that God wants me
[9:43] Speaker 3: to get twenty fourty.
[9:46] Speaker 2: I wouldn't put that past it.
[9:47] Speaker 3: And then it's all God, God, and like steals his
[9:49] Speaker 3: French fries. He's like, I knew it. God, Thanks God,
[9:51] Speaker 3: thank you so much.
[9:52] Speaker 2: So God's like, here's the plan, Barry. You need a
[9:54] Speaker 2: kid nap a kid. Make the kid somewhere's famous. But
[9:58] Speaker 2: by the way, it can't be a woman, and it
[9:59] Speaker 2: can't be a it's got to be young. When I
[10:01] Speaker 2: say a kid, I'm talking like you know, a swinging cat,
[10:03] Speaker 2: you know.
[10:04] Speaker 3: And he's like, well, I don't want kidnap a kid.
[10:06] Speaker 2: Yeah, first, kidnap a kid now, because it's God, though,
[10:09] Speaker 2: you know, there's always gonna be restrictions. God's like, kidnap
[10:11] Speaker 2: a kid. But here's how you have to do it.
[10:13] Speaker 2: Otherwise I'm gonna be mad. You know what I do
[10:15] Speaker 2: when I get mad? Anyway, that he makes a deal
[10:18] Speaker 2: with God and he's like, all right, let's do this God.
[10:21] Speaker 2: And so now he's like, you know, who do I kidnap?
[10:24] Speaker 2: It's nineteen sixty three, You're looking around. Who would you kidnap?
[10:28] Speaker 2: Whose kid would you kidnap?
[10:29] Speaker 3: Rather? I was I keep thinking of terrible things to say.
[10:35] Speaker 3: Sixty three. I mean, I'm thinking of vulnerable JFK. Junior.
[10:39] Speaker 2: But aside from that, that's a rough one.
[10:41] Speaker 3: I'm so sorry about that. Sixty three. Who would I kidnap?
[10:45] Speaker 3: Maybe Frank Sinatra's kidnap.
[10:47] Speaker 2: I'm taking John Wayne's boy.
[10:49] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, right, he was as tough in real life.
[10:52] Speaker 2: No, I don't that's what I'm taking his kid. I'm
[10:54] Speaker 2: thinking he would pay through the nose. I'd take him
[10:56] Speaker 2: to Mexican couple come find me, broh.
[10:58] Speaker 3: Yeah, you gotta go with the cash and maybe not
[11:00] Speaker 3: the swiftest.
[11:01] Speaker 2: No, and somebody who's gonna be a little bit like scared.
[11:03] Speaker 2: But then also maybe like FBI is need to get
[11:05] Speaker 2: involved to like complicate things so I can like get
[11:07] Speaker 2: them thinking they're gonna help them, he thinks, and then
[11:09] Speaker 2: I just you know, here's your kid back, and I
[11:10] Speaker 2: take the money. So Barry, he's like, okay, nineteen sixty three,
[11:16] Speaker 2: I need to get someone famous. It's got to be
[11:18] Speaker 2: a kid. But it can't be a baby, can't be
[11:21] Speaker 2: a woman. I know Bob Hope's kid. I'll take a
[11:24] Speaker 2: child Tony Hope. Yeah, Tony Hope, that's Bob Hope's kid.
[11:29] Speaker 3: Anyway, I learned Tony Hawk's stunt double Tony Hope.
[11:32] Speaker 2: Bro So Tony Hope is like, you know this, you know, nice,
[11:37] Speaker 2: nice enough kid. He thinks he's probably worth you at
[11:39] Speaker 2: least two hundred and forty thousand dollars, right sure. And
[11:42] Speaker 2: he's like, but you know what, Bob hopes, he's a
[11:44] Speaker 2: g He's like over there in Vietnam. I guess you know, Maggie,
[11:47] Speaker 2: this would be Vietnam, over there entertaining the troops. You know,
[11:50] Speaker 2: he's an all American guy. I can't take his kid.
[11:52] Speaker 2: He doesn't need that hassle.
[11:53] Speaker 3: And the man knows how to wheeld a golf club.
[11:56] Speaker 2: This is very true. So he's like, you know, I
[11:58] Speaker 2: need somebody who's a little tougher, who can take it,
[12:00] Speaker 2: who understands how the world is, And if I take
[12:02] Speaker 2: the kid, they won't just crumble and fall to pieces.
[12:05] Speaker 2: So he's like, you know, who can do it, Frank Sinatra,
[12:07] Speaker 2: I'm taking his boy.
[12:09] Speaker 3: Wow.
[12:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, But you have to understand this is interesting because
[12:13] Speaker 2: he grew up with Sinatras. Oh yeah, right now.
[12:16] Speaker 3: He grew up in Nancy Sinatra, and he heard boots
[12:18] Speaker 3: were made for walking.
[12:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's just what they're gonna do.
[12:21] Speaker 3: One of these days. These boots won't walk all over you, buddy.
[12:23] Speaker 2: Oh, let me watch my step. So Nancy Sinatra is
[12:28] Speaker 2: so tight with this dude Berry, she would like have
[12:30] Speaker 2: him in the car that Frank would drive. So Frank
[12:33] Speaker 2: would drive like Nancy and her girlfriends down to like
[12:35] Speaker 2: a party or whatever, and he would be in the car.
[12:38] Speaker 3: So he was Frank.
[12:40] Speaker 2: He's that close to the family. He's not just like
[12:42] Speaker 2: I see him occasially at my school. He's like, I'm
[12:44] Speaker 2: in the station.
[12:45] Speaker 3: I wasn't that his first choice? Inside job? Baby? Why
[12:47] Speaker 3: would you go for Bob Hope.
[12:50] Speaker 2: So he decides like, you know, uh, I'm gonna I'm
[12:53] Speaker 2: gonna get this kid. I know where he is. This
[12:55] Speaker 2: shouldn't be too hard and Frank can take it. He's tough,
[12:58] Speaker 2: he's a he understands, you know, because basically, remember he's
[13:02] Speaker 2: got a deal with God. But he also very Keenan
[13:05] Speaker 2: thinks of this as a business deal. He's like, hey, Frank,
[13:07] Speaker 2: he knows the mob, he knows how. It's a business deal.
[13:10] Speaker 2: It's not personal.
[13:11] Speaker 3: He went to he's in his early twenties or mid
[13:13] Speaker 3: twenties at this point. He goes to school with Nancy.
[13:17] Speaker 3: How old is the boy? He's nineteen, so he's not
[13:21] Speaker 3: really a kid.
[13:22] Speaker 2: Well he is in America. No, maybe a son of
[13:25] Speaker 2: wealth is nineteen.
[13:26] Speaker 3: That's a minor.
[13:28] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm taking legally. You're you're the daughter of a lawyer.
[13:30] Speaker 2: So you're thinking, oh, he's nineteen, and I'm like, no,
[13:33] Speaker 2: I'm a.
[13:33] Speaker 3: I'm also thinking it nineteen. I don't know a nineteen
[13:36] Speaker 3: year old man.
[13:37] Speaker 2: Well, well, you know, basically, if he say nineteen year
[13:42] Speaker 2: old man, it just doesn't me.
[13:43] Speaker 3: I like, I like describing it, all right.
[13:46] Speaker 2: I have you ever seen a picture of he looked
[13:47] Speaker 2: because his father was very baby faced when he was
[13:50] Speaker 2: very young, and he followed in his father's footsteps of
[13:53] Speaker 2: being very baby faced. So if you look at them,
[13:54] Speaker 2: he looks like a teenager.
[13:56] Speaker 3: So I like imagine him babyface, meaning he's bald and
[13:59] Speaker 3: has one curl, Yeah, the top of.
[14:00] Speaker 2: His head like the baby, and he's wearing a suit
[14:03] Speaker 2: and there's the baby's head in the passive fire.
[14:06] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just like that's.
[14:08] Speaker 2: Like he's on the edge of tears all the time
[14:10] Speaker 2: that he's looking around for. Yeah, he's moody right now.
[14:16] Speaker 3: He's a diaper change.
[14:18] Speaker 2: So my man, Barry Hewan, he's got his plans set,
[14:21] Speaker 2: he's got his target set. He's decided Frank can take it.
[14:24] Speaker 2: So now it is time to put his plan into action.
[14:28] Speaker 2: And I'll tell you all about that after this short break. Okay,
[14:51] Speaker 2: So Elizabeth, yes, you're an amateur kidnapper.
[14:54] Speaker 3: I'm an amateur pretty much.
[14:56] Speaker 2: But let's say you're looking to go pro as a kidnapper. Okay,
[14:59] Speaker 2: where would you turn? What would you what would be
[15:00] Speaker 2: your first move?
[15:02] Speaker 3: I want to go pro as a kidnapper.
[15:05] Speaker 2: You want to get paid? Get that brad Son? Where
[15:08] Speaker 2: you How are you gonna do it?
[15:09] Speaker 3: You know, I don't know. I maybe like try and
[15:14] Speaker 3: get a mentorship, going find apply for an apprenticeship program,
[15:20] Speaker 3: with another kidnapping outfit.
[15:21] Speaker 2: Is there a kidnapper guild?
[15:23] Speaker 3: Everything? You know?
[15:24] Speaker 2: Well, Barry goes to the library.
[15:26] Speaker 3: Oh, that's that's okay.
[15:28] Speaker 2: Right, He reads books, he reads newspaper articles. He really
[15:31] Speaker 2: focuses on j Edgar Hoover in the article because back
[15:34] Speaker 2: then Jaeger Hoover was writing newspaper articles because he was
[15:37] Speaker 2: trying to win over the populace to the idea of
[15:39] Speaker 2: the FBI. So in the thirties and the forties, he's
[15:41] Speaker 2: writing updates about like, you know, shootouts with bank robbers
[15:44] Speaker 2: and like, oh, we almost got a you know, top
[15:46] Speaker 2: machine gun, Kelly, we're after Babyface Nelson and he got away.
[15:50] Speaker 2: And then he's like, this is why you need the FBI, right,
[15:52] Speaker 2: And then also they have like the g Man on
[15:53] Speaker 2: the radio. It's like a whole advertising campaign for the
[15:56] Speaker 2: FBI essentially. Anyway, he loves these articles.
[16:00] Speaker 3: Berry's just hitting the microfiche.
[16:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's in the microfiche in the library, going give
[16:05] Speaker 2: me all the Jagger Hooper I can get, right, But
[16:07] Speaker 2: he doesn't just limit himself to Hoover. He also goes
[16:09] Speaker 2: all the way back to a real high point of
[16:12] Speaker 2: kidnapping biblical time, is this where.
[16:15] Speaker 3: He gets the notion of God telling him no, God
[16:17] Speaker 3: already told them that. Let me hit the reference book.
[16:20] Speaker 2: Yeah, let me let me check the blueprint. So he's like, well,
[16:24] Speaker 2: he wants to know, like basically why kidnapping works, but
[16:27] Speaker 2: importantly why it also fails. He wants to know, like
[16:29] Speaker 2: when kidnappings have gone wrong. Smart guy, smart guy. I mean,
[16:33] Speaker 2: you know, for somebody who's like, you know, edging on reality,
[16:35] Speaker 2: it's a smart approach. So once he schooled on kidnapping
[16:40] Speaker 2: and he feels like I got to handle on that,
[16:41] Speaker 2: He's like, Okay, now I need some money. So where
[16:44] Speaker 2: is he gonna go? Where are you gonna go to get.
[16:47] Speaker 3: Some money to fund my kidnapping?
[16:49] Speaker 2: Exactly? It's a tough one. He can't go to the
[16:50] Speaker 2: bank for a loan, So.
[16:51] Speaker 3: Get a job at a soda fountain and hard work
[16:54] Speaker 3: and bootstraps. I don't know, rob.
[16:57] Speaker 2: Somebody October in nineteen sixty three, He's like, let me
[16:59] Speaker 2: hitt my best friend.
[17:01] Speaker 3: Wait yan, but hold on, how great would it be
[17:03] Speaker 3: if he broke into Sinatra's house and stole money in
[17:06] Speaker 3: order to sell the kidnapping of his kid Just putting
[17:10] Speaker 3: that out there Barry has a missed opportunity.
[17:12] Speaker 2: I'll just put something else out there. You just wait,
[17:14] Speaker 2: oh boy till October nineteen sixty three, calls up his
[17:18] Speaker 2: friend Dean Torrents of Jan and Dean. He's like, Dean,
[17:22] Speaker 2: my man, I got a business opportunity for you.
[17:25] Speaker 3: Dean's like, too busy right in surf him.
[17:28] Speaker 2: No, He's like, because you have to understand. Remember when
[17:30] Speaker 2: I said he became an investment broker, and at twenty
[17:33] Speaker 2: one and so forth he was given He was taking
[17:36] Speaker 2: his parents' money, his friend's parents' money, his friend's money,
[17:39] Speaker 2: and making money for them on investments. He made a
[17:41] Speaker 2: ton of money for Dean Torrance because Dean Torrents had
[17:43] Speaker 2: money after making poppets like Surf City. So he's like, oh,
[17:46] Speaker 2: I'll take that invest it. So Deane's like, do you
[17:49] Speaker 2: want to do? What is it? He's like actually curious
[17:51] Speaker 2: to know, and he's like, I got this great new
[17:53] Speaker 2: business plan. You're gonna love it. It's a big money earner. Right.
[17:56] Speaker 2: So Barry's like, hey, Dean, meet me at USC and
[17:59] Speaker 2: he's like all right. So they meet over there and
[18:02] Speaker 2: he's like, Okay, now I'm going to tell you this plan,
[18:04] Speaker 2: but hear me out, don't interrupt me, just wait till
[18:07] Speaker 2: the end, then interrupt with whatever you got to say.
[18:10] Speaker 3: This is like when you tell me a story exactly.
[18:12] Speaker 2: I'm like, just wait till the end. So he's like, Okay,
[18:15] Speaker 2: here's the plan. He lays it out to him. I'm
[18:17] Speaker 2: gonna take Frank Sinatra's son and I'm gonna ransom him off,
[18:20] Speaker 2: and I'm gonna make a bunch of money and then
[18:22] Speaker 2: we'll all be fabulously wealthy and I'll save my family.
[18:24] Speaker 2: He's like, this is your plan. Okay, No, he's like,
[18:28] Speaker 2: you know, to be quite honest, he kind of like
[18:31] Speaker 2: plays along and I quote, yes, that all sounds great, Berry,
[18:35] Speaker 2: very entertaining. But what happens if you get caught. That's
[18:39] Speaker 2: a reasonable thing, right, It's like the most honest question,
[18:41] Speaker 2: the best question to ask. Barry has an answer. He's like,
[18:43] Speaker 2: I'm prepared for that, bro well, Dean, and I quote,
[18:47] Speaker 2: I'm not going to get caught. That's not part of
[18:50] Speaker 2: the plan. I'll have such an iron clad alibi.
[18:54] Speaker 3: My plan if I get caught is just tonight, not
[18:56] Speaker 3: get caught.
[18:57] Speaker 2: I've got that checks taken care of. So he's like Okay,
[19:01] Speaker 2: well lay it on me. What's your alibi? And he's like, well,
[19:03] Speaker 2: you know, I'm gonna go to uh you see La
[19:06] Speaker 2: Bruins game, and everybody will see me there and then
[19:09] Speaker 2: they can just say that's where I was. He's like,
[19:11] Speaker 2: that's your plan. Okay, all fifty thousand people are gonna
[19:14] Speaker 2: be your eyewitnesses. Deal. So Dean's like, you know what,
[19:18] Speaker 2: and I quote, I'll tell you what. This is too
[19:21] Speaker 2: bizarre for me to even relate to, but I will
[19:23] Speaker 2: give you five hundred bucks. Now you try to get
[19:25] Speaker 2: your life together and let me know how things go.
[19:28] Speaker 2: So Dean, also, by the way, has he's like, you
[19:30] Speaker 2: think like he has never spoken about this publicly. He has.
[19:33] Speaker 2: He's willing to talk about the time he financed Franks
[19:35] Speaker 2: an under juniors kid down and he recalls and I quote,
[19:39] Speaker 2: I don't think I ever took him seriously. It was
[19:41] Speaker 2: so insane. Yeah, that's like kind of his defense.
[19:43] Speaker 3: Got this like friend who's not all there.
[19:45] Speaker 2: And kind of it's his best friend from high school.
[19:48] Speaker 2: So he's like, look, I'm doing well well in surf music.
[19:51] Speaker 2: You used to be doing well with the baby.
[19:54] Speaker 3: Get you back on me alone.
[19:55] Speaker 2: Yeah. So then He's like, Okay, now I got my money,
[19:58] Speaker 2: got my steed money, got five hundred bucks. Now it's
[20:00] Speaker 2: time to put my plan into actions. He's like, I
[20:03] Speaker 2: need to go get a team together. His first ask
[20:05] Speaker 2: old high school buddy Joe.
[20:07] Speaker 3: Amslon Barry's eleven.
[20:09] Speaker 2: Totally Barry's eleven. The dude is an Abalony Diver, professional boxer.
[20:13] Speaker 3: Wait, that's the most amazing peak California employment. I saved
[20:18] Speaker 3: that that resume. What do you do? Abaloni Diver, also
[20:23] Speaker 3: a professional boxer.
[20:25] Speaker 2: By the way, really struggling with the employment. His wife's like, look,
[20:29] Speaker 2: you get a job or you get out, so and uh,
[20:33] Speaker 2: my man, Barry's like, hey, man, I got a one
[20:35] Speaker 2: hundred bucks a week. If you want to be part
[20:37] Speaker 2: of my heist, He's like, cool, I'm into it, right,
[20:41] Speaker 2: So he agrees to the heights for one hundred dollars
[20:42] Speaker 2: a week.
[20:43] Speaker 3: Then he's like five weeks of employment.
[20:46] Speaker 2: He's like, I need also somebody who cues a tough guy, right,
[20:50] Speaker 2: somebody who can, like, you know, really bring this home.
[20:52] Speaker 2: So he's like, oh, I know my mom's ex boyfriend.
[20:55] Speaker 3: Oh he brought it home.
[20:57] Speaker 2: So he's this forty two year old World War ti veteran,
[21:00] Speaker 2: a navy man, and he's like, hey, John Irwan, you
[21:03] Speaker 2: want to help me. Kid have Frank Sinatris Junior. And
[21:05] Speaker 2: he's like, hmmm, well, how much is in in it
[21:09] Speaker 2: for me? He's like he tells them on hundred bucks
[21:12] Speaker 2: a week. He's like, all right, I'm.
[21:14] Speaker 3: Now we're down to two and a half weeks.
[21:16] Speaker 2: Of employment exactly. Well, this is our team. So they're like, okay,
[21:20] Speaker 2: let's get to it now. Their first attempt is that month.
[21:23] Speaker 2: They decide in October nineteen sixty three, we need to
[21:25] Speaker 2: go grab You can't pay him that You've done the math,
[21:28] Speaker 2: it's right there. So he's like, all right, I need
[21:30] Speaker 2: to move. But he's got a problem. Barry's got kind
[21:34] Speaker 2: of a big problem.
[21:35] Speaker 3: He fell in love, oh Berry.
[21:37] Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's wondering, how do I tell my girl
[21:39] Speaker 2: that I'm gonna steal Frank Sinatris son and make us
[21:42] Speaker 2: some big money. She may not be into that, that may
[21:45] Speaker 2: scare her away, that may be what the kids of
[21:47] Speaker 2: the future will call her red flag. I don't know.
[21:49] Speaker 3: That would be the best Reddit Relationships post from either
[21:54] Speaker 3: one of them.
[21:55] Speaker 2: Because I want to steal Frank Sinatra.
[21:57] Speaker 3: Junior it would be like Reddit relationship, like my boyfriend
[22:01] Speaker 3: keeps disappearing for periods of time and I think he's cheating,
[22:05] Speaker 3: and then the update, well it turns out he was
[22:07] Speaker 3: trying to kidnap Frank Sinatra, not cheating.
[22:11] Speaker 2: So his girlfriend Pam surprises us. All she's into it.
[22:15] Speaker 3: She's like what, oh, Pam's a writer.
[22:18] Speaker 2: Let's get that dude. I'm telling you, I'll drive right.
[22:21] Speaker 2: So they're like all lined up and they go heading
[22:24] Speaker 2: over to Arizona because Frank Sinatra Junior is gonna be
[22:26] Speaker 2: playing the Arizona State Fair.
[22:28] Speaker 3: Wait, playing the Arizona.
[22:29] Speaker 2: Singing he's a musician.
[22:30] Speaker 3: Oh goodness, Oh.
[22:31] Speaker 2: Yes, I forgot to tell you that, following in the
[22:33] Speaker 2: footsteps of his father. He is a musician, and he's
[22:36] Speaker 2: eighteen sensation at nineteen.
[22:38] Speaker 3: It's like he's Shacob Dylan.
[22:39] Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. This is a really good comparison. Actually is
[22:42] Speaker 2: good me. You like, he's like, you know, basically conjuring
[22:46] Speaker 2: that feel and people are like, oh, it's just they love.
[22:49] Speaker 3: This and he's playing the Arizona State Fair.
[22:51] Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a part of a generational issue there, because
[22:54] Speaker 2: you have to remember it's nineteen sixty three, and not
[22:56] Speaker 2: a lot of people are like, you know what I
[22:57] Speaker 2: would love right now is a young Frank Sinatra kind
[23:00] Speaker 2: of missed his window there. His father really hit it though, anyway,
[23:03] Speaker 2: So he uh, Barry, Pam and the gym, and uh,
[23:08] Speaker 2: we've got Jim Irwin.
[23:09] Speaker 3: It sounds like you're making up.
[23:13] Speaker 2: Joe. So Joe John or John Wamsler, John Herwin, Pam
[23:20] Speaker 2: and Barry. They all go cruising over to Arizona, but
[23:23] Speaker 2: they decided to abort mission because Barry he's like, you know,
[23:26] Speaker 2: he's basically freaked out about the fact he touched a
[23:28] Speaker 2: phone and he went to like, do somethings like I
[23:30] Speaker 2: touched the phone, if I left fingerprints, we gotta leave,
[23:34] Speaker 2: and so like, okay, Barry. So then they drive back
[23:37] Speaker 2: to l A and he's like, okay, guys, I know
[23:40] Speaker 2: that that probably didn't seem cool how I freaked out,
[23:42] Speaker 2: but I trust me. I got a really good plan.
[23:45] Speaker 3: Like he basically thought he left this oven.
[23:47] Speaker 2: On exactly, and everyone was like, oh, man, I don't
[23:50] Speaker 2: know about this. He's like, look, we'll grab him here
[23:52] Speaker 2: in l A. And they were like, Barry, I don't know, bro.
[23:54] Speaker 2: He's like, look, guys, trust me, this is gonna happen.
[23:57] Speaker 2: It's gonna be amazing, it's gonna be magical. We're gonna
[23:59] Speaker 2: do this. How about this. Put on your best suit.
[24:01] Speaker 2: We're going to the Ambassador And they're like what It's like, yeah,
[24:03] Speaker 2: do it up, man. So they go and they put
[24:05] Speaker 2: on their best suit. They go down to the Ambassador
[24:07] Speaker 2: Hotel where Frank Sinatra Junior is performing and they get
[24:15] Speaker 2: to watch him headline a like nightclub act, and sitting
[24:19] Speaker 2: a few tables away from them is Frank Sinatra's senior
[24:22] Speaker 2: Dean Martin and Sammy Davis. Do you think that's a
[24:25] Speaker 2: whole rap pack?
[24:26] Speaker 3: That's why people went to that show because they thought
[24:28] Speaker 3: they did, and that's.
[24:29] Speaker 2: Why Frank Sinatra went to that show because that exact
[24:32] Speaker 2: same reason. So anyway, now his guys are like, oh,
[24:35] Speaker 2: it's ordained, we're gonna do it. We're gonna take that
[24:38] Speaker 2: man's son.
[24:38] Speaker 3: That was their seagull sign.
[24:40] Speaker 2: They decided, right, Frank.
[24:42] Speaker 3: Sinatra flies across this room and steals my French fries.
[24:49] Speaker 3: It's on. Remember I'm channeling Barry here.
[24:53] Speaker 2: He's not playing with him. It's amazing. So now remember
[24:57] Speaker 2: their alibi is they're gonna go to a Ucla foot
[25:00] Speaker 2: So they set the day they're gonna kidnap Berry on
[25:03] Speaker 2: a Friday. Go to the UCLA football game on a Saturday.
[25:05] Speaker 2: Everyone will see them. They like, how could they kidnap
[25:07] Speaker 2: them on Friday? If they're at a UCLA game on Saturday, bro.
[25:10] Speaker 3: Nothing can happen twenty four hours exactly.
[25:13] Speaker 2: So that's their plan, and they set the day for Friday,
[25:15] Speaker 2: November twenty second, nineteen sixty three. Oh yeah, So plans
[25:21] Speaker 2: get interrupted when JFK gets assassinated that day in Dallas.
[25:25] Speaker 3: Oh boy, So.
[25:27] Speaker 2: Frank Sinat Your Junior show gets canceled that night, and
[25:29] Speaker 2: Barry's like, damn it, man, this is not fair. This
[25:32] Speaker 2: is just not fair. So anyway, he's really upset and
[25:36] Speaker 2: he's like, but I'm not gonna give up on the dream.
[25:39] Speaker 2: He's like, I've i refuse. This is my moment, right.
[25:43] Speaker 2: So he's like, Okay, I'm gonna have to go up
[25:45] Speaker 2: to uh Tahoe because he sees that's where Frank Sinatra
[25:49] Speaker 2: Junior is going to be performing in December. He's like, okay,
[25:52] Speaker 2: it's a perfect place to grab He's out there at
[25:53] Speaker 2: the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I can just go up. There's
[25:55] Speaker 2: all those little back roads. I can drive down to Reno,
[25:57] Speaker 2: I can drive down to San Francisco. There's no way
[25:59] Speaker 2: to say stop me. I could go south in the
[26:01] Speaker 2: ninety nine. This is great.
[26:02] Speaker 3: I got December in the in Tahoe. Okay.
[26:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, but he's thinking, you know, he's he's from you know,
[26:07] Speaker 2: down south, so he doesn't really know that it's going
[26:09] Speaker 2: to be most likely snowy, icy. He's not thinking about that, right.
[26:13] Speaker 2: But he calls up his mom's actually he's like, hey,
[26:15] Speaker 2: John Irwin, you want to go up north to Tall.
[26:17] Speaker 2: He's like, bro, I got a job. I gotta, I gotta.
[26:18] Speaker 2: I got work as a house painter. I don't need
[26:20] Speaker 2: your hundred dollars a week. He's like, okay, just don't
[26:22] Speaker 2: tell anyone I'm doing this, Okay. So then he goes.
[26:25] Speaker 2: He grabs up his buddy Abaloney dive return boxer Joe Amslern.
[26:28] Speaker 2: He's like, hey Joe, let's go north. And he's like,
[26:30] Speaker 2: oh man, I can't. My wife's about on me. I
[26:32] Speaker 2: haven't been able to collect in the Abaloney, haven't fought Anyboddy.
[26:35] Speaker 2: I mean just things are tough. And he gets some
[26:37] Speaker 2: work He's like, yeah, there's construction jobs. People are building casinos.
[26:40] Speaker 2: Let's go up to Tahoe. And he's like, all right, bet,
[26:42] Speaker 2: let's go.
[26:43] Speaker 3: He's all, where are your abaloney short shorts?
[26:46] Speaker 2: Exactly. So the finally they drive north and they're going
[26:50] Speaker 2: up there and they get to Tahoe and all of
[26:52] Speaker 2: a sudden, Joe notices on the marque at Harris Casino.
[26:55] Speaker 2: Frank's not your junior now headlining the whatever room. He's like, bro,
[26:59] Speaker 2: what's up with you? Just brought me here to grab
[27:01] Speaker 2: Frank Sinatra Junior. You're not getting construction jobs. He's like, yeah,
[27:04] Speaker 2: that's true. We're doing it, man, we're doing it. So
[27:08] Speaker 2: I will be back in one moment to tell you
[27:11] Speaker 2: the mad cap grabbing of Frank Sinatra Junior. It's December eighth,
[27:37] Speaker 2: nineteen sixty three. We're just weeks after the assassination of JFK.
[27:42] Speaker 2: The nation is mourning, but Frank Sinatra Junior is like,
[27:45] Speaker 2: the show must go on. So he's out there at
[27:47] Speaker 2: Harris Casino getting ready to perform. J Yeah, Frank Sinatra Junior.
[27:51] Speaker 2: So then we enter to the scene Barry and Joe
[27:56] Speaker 2: Amsler Abaloni dive return boxer who sure charts. They pull
[28:00] Speaker 2: up into the Sierra Nevadas and they decide, you know what,
[28:04] Speaker 2: we're gonna do this thing. After they have a little
[28:06] Speaker 2: falling out about the fact that Joe was lied to
[28:08] Speaker 2: by Barry, he's like, all right, I'm here though, let's
[28:11] Speaker 2: do this. So they pull up in their sixty three
[28:13] Speaker 2: Chevy and Paula and now, mind you, they have to
[28:17] Speaker 2: like get his routine down. So like for about a
[28:19] Speaker 2: week they just kind of shade Frank Sinatra Junior. They're like,
[28:22] Speaker 2: you know, tracking them. Now we've spent that week up.
[28:25] Speaker 2: Now we are at December eight, So for the last
[28:28] Speaker 2: week they've been.
[28:29] Speaker 3: There doing the most dangerous game exactly.
[28:33] Speaker 2: Wanted to know all of his routines. Where is anything
[28:35] Speaker 2: he does? Right? So now they got it down. So
[28:36] Speaker 2: they pull up in their sixty three Chevy and Paula,
[28:39] Speaker 2: cut the lights and they go, okay, it's the moment.
[28:41] Speaker 2: Let's do this. He's like, you're ready, Joe, He's like,
[28:44] Speaker 2: I don't think I am. And he's like, well, here's
[28:46] Speaker 2: an unloaded gun, let's do this. I sorry, God, he
[28:51] Speaker 2: gives an unloaded gun. He doesn't trust Joe with bullets,
[28:54] Speaker 2: so then he has bullets in his gun. He's like, hey,
[28:56] Speaker 2: let's go in there. So Barry it's like, you know what,
[28:58] Speaker 2: I got an idea, I'll be a man. So he
[29:00] Speaker 2: takes a wine box, fills up with pine cones he
[29:02] Speaker 2: gathers from like just trees, and goes up and knocks
[29:05] Speaker 2: on the door.
[29:05] Speaker 3: It's like a Martha Stewart.
[29:07] Speaker 2: Yeah. He's like, I gotta delivery.
[29:09] Speaker 3: Exactly here are the pine cones.
[29:10] Speaker 2: Got the pine cones? You know their decorative?
[29:12] Speaker 3: What if he opens the door and Frankie Junior's like, oh,
[29:15] Speaker 3: I've been waiting on those and just like starts chewing
[29:17] Speaker 3: them up.
[29:18] Speaker 2: It's like thank good, Like they.
[29:20] Speaker 3: Didn't know he had noticed that he only eats.
[29:22] Speaker 2: Pine pine cones and that's why he's such a beautiful voice.
[29:25] Speaker 2: So he goes up and he knocks on the door
[29:27] Speaker 2: and he's like, hey, Joe be cool, ready, okay, knock knock,
[29:30] Speaker 2: and then frank stunts Junior rich kid did? He is
[29:32] Speaker 2: like come in? So they push open the door and
[29:35] Speaker 2: walk in with the pine cones like delivery, sir. He's
[29:37] Speaker 2: like set him down over there. He sets him down
[29:39] Speaker 2: and he's like, Joe, come on in, and he tries
[29:41] Speaker 2: to pull out his gun, but he can't get his
[29:42] Speaker 2: gun out of his pocket, so the two of them
[29:44] Speaker 2: are both fumbling. One guy's got the unloaded gun, he's
[29:46] Speaker 2: aiming it at them, the other one's got his gun
[29:48] Speaker 2: into the pocket. Barry finally gets the gun out of
[29:50] Speaker 2: his pocket, forces it into Frank Sinoutter Junior's face and
[29:52] Speaker 2: is like, all right, this is a robbery, right, Because
[29:56] Speaker 2: he's decided he doesn't want it to think it's a kidnapping,
[29:57] Speaker 2: so he doesn't tell him it's a kidnapping. He's like,
[30:00] Speaker 2: don't make any noise and nobody will get hurt. And
[30:02] Speaker 2: he just keeps repeating this over and over again, and
[30:04] Speaker 2: Junior is like, okay, now, mind you. I left at
[30:06] Speaker 2: a key detail. When they burst into the room, Frank Sinatra,
[30:09] Speaker 2: Junior and his trumpet player, this guy Fast. They're hanging
[30:14] Speaker 2: out in their underwear eating fried chicken.
[30:17] Speaker 3: As you do.
[30:18] Speaker 2: You know, just before the show was trying to sea
[30:23] Speaker 2: draws your trumpet player eating some fried chicken.
[30:25] Speaker 3: That sounds lovely, right, So.
[30:26] Speaker 2: They're just sitting there now in their underwear, eating fried chicken,
[30:29] Speaker 2: with guns in their faces.
[30:31] Speaker 3: Eating they do.
[30:33] Speaker 2: He literally continues he takes a bite of thigh. He's like,
[30:36] Speaker 2: what's going on, man, that's incredible. So then he's like, look,
[30:39] Speaker 2: give us some money, and he's like, no, he's made
[30:41] Speaker 2: the terrible mistake of trying to rob musicians. The trumpet
[30:43] Speaker 2: players like, bro, I don't got any.
[30:44] Speaker 3: Yeah, I got good luck wear.
[30:49] Speaker 2: You don't want to know why. So he's like, I
[30:51] Speaker 2: got twenty bucks. Frank's and not juniors like here, I
[30:53] Speaker 2: got twenty bucks. And then the reason why they decided
[30:55] Speaker 2: to rob him is because Barry is spent up all
[30:57] Speaker 2: their money. They don't have gas money to make it
[30:59] Speaker 2: back to La. They need this monch. So then once
[31:03] Speaker 2: they get done robbing him, then they go okay, now
[31:05] Speaker 2: back to kidnapping.
[31:06] Speaker 3: So they go, okay, this is a side quest.
[31:10] Speaker 2: I'm it's amazing. So they tell the dude Foss, the
[31:13] Speaker 2: trumpet player, Look, you're gonna stay here. Bro, we're gonna
[31:15] Speaker 2: tie you up ten minutes after we leave, you can
[31:18] Speaker 2: go tell people that we took Frank Sinat your junior.
[31:20] Speaker 3: He's like, you tie him up with a ten minute yeah, limit. Yeah,
[31:24] Speaker 3: So it happens after ten minutes.
[31:26] Speaker 2: I don't know. They just wanted a head start. So
[31:29] Speaker 2: they thought he's a man of dignity and honor.
[31:31] Speaker 3: He's not gonna get caught because he's not gonna get
[31:33] Speaker 3: caught exactly.
[31:35] Speaker 2: This is all part of the plan. I don't know
[31:36] Speaker 2: why you have questions. So they shuffle Frank's not your
[31:39] Speaker 2: junior out of the room. They go and they take
[31:41] Speaker 2: him down to the sixty three Chevy and Paul toss
[31:43] Speaker 2: him in back blindfold them. They get ready to go
[31:45] Speaker 2: and they're like, oh, forgot the gun. He has to
[31:49] Speaker 2: go back upstairs fetch his gun. And he sees that
[31:51] Speaker 2: Foss is like trying to get free, like, bro, I
[31:53] Speaker 2: thought I told you. He's like, okay, look, just give
[31:55] Speaker 2: me five minutes. And he goes like okay, I'll give
[31:57] Speaker 2: you five minutes. Like O cool. So then he leaves.
[31:59] Speaker 2: He's exactly. So then they go run back downstairs and
[32:04] Speaker 2: he's like all cool. And they get in the car
[32:06] Speaker 2: and Joe is not taking off, Joe stowing the car
[32:08] Speaker 2: sitting there. Joe's like, man, we got really got to
[32:10] Speaker 2: get out of here. So they're like, oh cool, and
[32:13] Speaker 2: he's like, hey, Frank's not your junior. Be cool, bro,
[32:16] Speaker 2: just just be cool. And he's like, what's going on.
[32:18] Speaker 2: You guys rob me and you kidnapped, but what's really
[32:20] Speaker 2: going on. It's like, so this is a quote from
[32:23] Speaker 2: Barry and I quote. We're in the car maybe three
[32:27] Speaker 2: or four minutes. I say, Frank, what we should do
[32:29] Speaker 2: is make you look like you're drunk. So here, take
[32:32] Speaker 2: these sleeping pills, numb you tall to be precise, take
[32:35] Speaker 2: a swig of this whiskey. And Frank, he was very cooperative.
[32:38] Speaker 3: I love this. That's for so many reasons. One what
[32:43] Speaker 3: we should do is kidnappers kidnapping is makes you look drunk,
[32:48] Speaker 3: like He's gonna be like, oh yeah, Tot's like that,
[32:50] Speaker 3: let's do. And then they're like, here, take the take
[32:53] Speaker 3: these pills and some whiskey. He's like, don't go ask exactly.
[32:59] Speaker 2: And the Franks at Junior did have to be kind
[33:01] Speaker 2: of like convinced because they told him, look, we got
[33:03] Speaker 2: these guns and if anything happens, if cops show up,
[33:05] Speaker 2: there'll be gunfire and you might get shot by the cops.
[33:08] Speaker 2: We don't want that to happen. He's like, that's true,
[33:10] Speaker 2: give me the booze, right, But.
[33:11] Speaker 3: If I'm like kidnapped and shoved in the back of
[33:13] Speaker 3: a really cool looking sixties three well, I imagine brand new.
[33:16] Speaker 3: They shoved me in there and they've got guns in
[33:18] Speaker 3: my face. I'm going to say, can I have those
[33:21] Speaker 3: pills in that whiskey? Because I just want to check
[33:23] Speaker 3: out on this one right now.
[33:24] Speaker 2: That's what Joe Antler's doing.
[33:25] Speaker 3: Kill myself. But I'm like, I, I you know, lights
[33:30] Speaker 3: out London. I want to go to sleep. I don't
[33:32] Speaker 3: want to see this, and then you can deal with
[33:34] Speaker 3: my limp body as you try and move me around.
[33:37] Speaker 2: Just pour me in the foot well and I'll be fine.
[33:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, So did Joe hit up the pills and whiskey.
[33:42] Speaker 2: Yeah. Joe and Frank are passing back through at the
[33:44] Speaker 2: bottle because they're both a little tense right now, right,
[33:46] Speaker 2: they're just he's not sure this is going to go.
[33:48] Speaker 3: Well, this is amazing.
[33:49] Speaker 2: So Foster the trumpet player works himself free. He runs
[33:52] Speaker 2: down to the manager. He's like, look, they grab Frank's
[33:53] Speaker 2: not your junior. Manager's like, what was he going to
[33:56] Speaker 2: get killed?
[33:57] Speaker 3: Was he still eating a piece of chicken?
[33:59] Speaker 2: I got his teeth, Like, I'm telling him everyone, just second,
[34:02] Speaker 2: this is some good chicken. So anyway, if the manager
[34:04] Speaker 2: calls to the you know, the sheriff. The Sheriff's like, what,
[34:07] Speaker 2: I'm gonna get killed by Frank Sinatra. So everyone's afraid
[34:09] Speaker 2: of getting killed by Frank Sinatra. So they shut down
[34:11] Speaker 2: the roads, they shut down the freeway. He has all
[34:13] Speaker 2: these deputies going like block off any exits and they
[34:16] Speaker 2: do it fast enough. He's like, I want you boys
[34:19] Speaker 2: out there because I don't think they got out of
[34:20] Speaker 2: the out of this area. There's no way. It's only
[34:22] Speaker 2: been like five ten minutes. So he sends his guys,
[34:24] Speaker 2: I was sawed off shotguns and pistols into the dark
[34:27] Speaker 2: and cold, and goes go find me the kidnappers of
[34:29] Speaker 2: Frank Sinatra Junior, and uh. The sheriff is right of
[34:32] Speaker 2: one thing. They have not left the area.
[34:37] Speaker 3: They all take pills.
[34:38] Speaker 2: No pull over. Barry's like, you know what, man, I
[34:41] Speaker 2: told you. I got the plan. I thought of everything.
[34:43] Speaker 2: He says, I just need to put these snow chains on.
[34:45] Speaker 3: Oh my god.
[34:47] Speaker 2: He does, but he gets the snow chains on you.
[34:50] Speaker 2: They're driving along and they're like he notices in the
[34:53] Speaker 2: distance these headlights and he's like, oh, that's a police roadblock.
[34:56] Speaker 2: So he pulls over. He's like, I just need the
[34:57] Speaker 2: time to think. Guys, I didn't think about this part.
[35:00] Speaker 2: And they're like, okay, that's cool. Cool. He's like, okay,
[35:03] Speaker 2: here's my plan. The cops think that there are three
[35:06] Speaker 2: people because one's one is Frank Sinatra and the two
[35:09] Speaker 2: are the kidnappers, so they're looking for a car with
[35:11] Speaker 2: three people. Joe, you need to get out, okay. Now, meanwhile,
[35:17] Speaker 2: a blizzard has started to fall. The snow is gone.
[35:19] Speaker 2: There's like a light snow at first, and now it's
[35:22] Speaker 2: starting to build. Now we're getting actual blizzard conditions. And
[35:24] Speaker 2: he's like, Joe, run out into the blizzard.
[35:26] Speaker 3: And Joe is in his abaloney hunting outfits.
[35:29] Speaker 2: He's like barefoot and a good whiskey drunk at.
[35:33] Speaker 3: This and that's it, and he's slurring his speech, so he's.
[35:36] Speaker 2: Like, okay, he runs out into the knife, right. So
[35:42] Speaker 2: then Barry gets out starts working on the car tire chains,
[35:45] Speaker 2: and then these cops pull up. They're like hey. Harry's like,
[35:53] Speaker 2: what's going on, officer? And the cops are like, hey, man, uh,
[35:56] Speaker 2: what are you doing. He's like, oh, just fixing my
[35:58] Speaker 2: chains car. Dre's like oh yeah, just out looking for
[36:00] Speaker 2: some people. And then he's like cool. And then the
[36:02] Speaker 2: cops get back in their protrol car and drive down.
[36:04] Speaker 3: The road just out looking for some people.
[36:06] Speaker 2: He's like, yeah, but you're not it apparently, So Barry's like, hey,
[36:09] Speaker 2: Frank junior, nice job. But he playing along.
[36:12] Speaker 3: You're like, I'm just drool all down exactly. He's soiled himself.
[36:20] Speaker 2: He's like, okay, now we need to get out of here.
[36:22] Speaker 2: And so Frank's on a junior's like, well, what about
[36:24] Speaker 2: Joe And he's like okay, fine, way, Frank's not your
[36:29] Speaker 2: seniors worriting about the kidnapper. He's like, we need to
[36:31] Speaker 2: go save Joe. He's like, okay, fine, Frank, calm down his.
[36:35] Speaker 3: Drug and induced he thinks of Joe.
[36:38] Speaker 2: Yeah. So he gets out there, he's like oh screaming
[36:41] Speaker 2: and shouting into the darkness and he's like hey, hey,
[36:43] Speaker 2: and then Joe comes running back. Joe's like, oh, man,
[36:47] Speaker 2: I ran into a fence post. I knocked myself house
[36:49] Speaker 2: for a while.
[36:50] Speaker 3: Stop it. Yeah, did he legitimately.
[36:53] Speaker 2: Ran into the fence post knocked himself out. Then he
[36:56] Speaker 2: comes to and then runs back when hears his name
[36:57] Speaker 2: being shouted into the darkness.
[36:59] Speaker 3: So then this is a con brother exactly.
[37:01] Speaker 2: So then he gets backed. He's like, look, we got
[37:03] Speaker 2: the same problem, though, Joe. You can't be here. You
[37:05] Speaker 2: gotta be in the trunk. He's like, but I'm so cool,
[37:08] Speaker 2: and he's like, to get in the trunk, Joe. Joe's
[37:10] Speaker 2: like okay. So Joe gets in the trunk. Now they're
[37:12] Speaker 2: got his drive down to a roadblock and then he's
[37:15] Speaker 2: like hey, officers, and this cops is like, pull that
[37:18] Speaker 2: his shotguns. You get out of that car. Because he
[37:20] Speaker 2: doesn't know that these He just sees a car coming
[37:22] Speaker 2: at him and he's like, yeah, they decided this must
[37:24] Speaker 2: be the kidnappers. And then and you know, Berry's like, hey, man,
[37:27] Speaker 2: cool down. I don't know what the problem is. We
[37:29] Speaker 2: already got searched. And there's other cops like, oh, yeah,
[37:32] Speaker 2: I searched him, don't worry about it. He's like, I
[37:34] Speaker 2: don't know about that. He's like, no, I don't care.
[37:36] Speaker 2: I'm gonna search you again. He's like, you can't do that, man.
[37:39] Speaker 2: He's like the other cops like it's cool man. He's like,
[37:41] Speaker 2: all right, let him go.
[37:43] Speaker 3: What is going on? When people just tell someone something
[37:45] Speaker 3: and it becomes true.
[37:46] Speaker 2: Exactly that's how it works. Wow. Now they're off to
[37:50] Speaker 2: LA and uh, you know, they get into the dark
[37:53] Speaker 2: of the night as the blizzard is falling, and they
[37:55] Speaker 2: turn on the radio and they hear Frank's not your junior,
[37:57] Speaker 2: it's been kidnapped. And then the news is He's like, wait,
[38:00] Speaker 2: you guys kidnap me, man, I thought we were just
[38:02] Speaker 2: on a road trip. He doesn't quite understand what's happening
[38:05] Speaker 2: to him, right, So then Frank Sinatra has to listen
[38:08] Speaker 2: to his dad because they're playing Frank Sinatra music because
[38:10] Speaker 2: his son's been kidnapped. So then he just listen to
[38:12] Speaker 2: Frank Sinatra tunes that they drive south in California and
[38:15] Speaker 2: they've gotten away with it. So what comes next, I'll
[38:17] Speaker 2: tell you after this very very short break. So what
[38:39] Speaker 2: comes next? Well, for these three young men, it's basically
[38:41] Speaker 2: a road trip south. I mean they're having some fun.
[38:43] Speaker 2: They're chucking down some pills or drinking some boos or
[38:45] Speaker 2: listening to Sinatra tunes. It's basically like that scene from Swingers.
[38:48] Speaker 2: It's just like all right. So then they get back
[38:50] Speaker 2: to LA and reality finally sets in for poor Frank
[38:53] Speaker 2: Sinatra Junior. He's like, wait, a minute. You guys totally
[38:55] Speaker 2: took me like out of like I have a show
[38:57] Speaker 2: to play, and like, this is messed up. Man. They're like, okay, yes,
[39:00] Speaker 2: we kidnapped you. What's your dad's numbers? We can get
[39:02] Speaker 2: some money for you. And he's like, I'm not telling
[39:04] Speaker 2: you my dad's number. They're like, no, you have to,
[39:06] Speaker 2: and he's like, I'm not doing it, and they're like,
[39:08] Speaker 2: I didn't think about this part of the plan, so
[39:10] Speaker 2: I have no answer. So he's like Joe hit him.
[39:13] Speaker 2: He's like, I'm not hit them. He's ever, no, buddy, man,
[39:14] Speaker 2: I'm not going to mess it up. Yeah, we're cool,
[39:16] Speaker 2: and so they're actually really getting tight pill pals. Yeah, exactly.
[39:21] Speaker 2: So Frank Tinw's like, yeah, I'm a tough guy. Ain't
[39:23] Speaker 2: gonna tell you my dad's number.
[39:24] Speaker 3: They're like, goddamn, wait, doesn't he know, Nancy? Why can
[39:27] Speaker 3: you be?
[39:27] Speaker 2: Like well, Frank was around right, So luckily he's like, well,
[39:32] Speaker 2: I've already had some bad news, so I got some
[39:34] Speaker 2: time to kill. I need to go back up to
[39:35] Speaker 2: Tahoe because I didn't pay off the hotel bill.
[39:39] Speaker 3: You can't just go ahead and not pay it.
[39:42] Speaker 2: Well, no, then they'll know it's him. He's worried, right,
[39:44] Speaker 2: He's like, they'll have the idea that he has this
[39:46] Speaker 2: hotel that's never built.
[39:47] Speaker 3: Anyway, well, the way things are working, call him and
[39:49] Speaker 3: tell him you paid it well, in said.
[39:50] Speaker 2: He calls Dean Torrance and he's like, Dane, I need
[39:52] Speaker 2: five hundred dollars more because I got Frank Sin not
[39:54] Speaker 2: your junior down and head like. He's like whoa, whoa wait,
[39:56] Speaker 2: you did it. And he's like, yeah, it's like, okay,
[39:59] Speaker 2: you need he did. Stop calling me, right man. So
[40:03] Speaker 2: but he's like, when here's five hundred dollars, never call
[40:05] Speaker 2: me again. He's like, thanks, I needed the money, and
[40:07] Speaker 2: he drives back up to Tahoe, pays off his hotel bill,
[40:10] Speaker 2: and he takes Pam, his rich girlfriend, with him. She
[40:12] Speaker 2: actually ends up paying most of the hotel bill. He
[40:14] Speaker 2: needs the five hundred dollars so you can pay gas
[40:15] Speaker 2: and not have to ask Pam for money for gas.
[40:17] Speaker 2: I guess. They actually spend the day skiing after they
[40:19] Speaker 2: pay off the hotel bill, and then they then they
[40:22] Speaker 2: drive back down South.
[40:23] Speaker 3: Oh.
[40:24] Speaker 2: Meanwhile, once he's back in La, he discovers Barry discovers
[40:29] Speaker 2: that Joe and Frank Junior've gotten real tight and they're
[40:31] Speaker 2: they're kind of like, basically they don't want to go
[40:33] Speaker 2: through with it anymore. And He's like, what the hell, man,
[40:36] Speaker 2: It's like, you guys, okay, look, so he got he's
[40:39] Speaker 2: got to call in the outside ringer again. He calls
[40:41] Speaker 2: his mom's ex boyfriend. He's like, John Row and I
[40:43] Speaker 2: need you to come in and be tough for me.
[40:44] Speaker 2: He's like, okay. So the old wol War two veteran
[40:47] Speaker 2: comes in. They're like, look, I found out Frank how
[40:49] Speaker 2: to get ahold of Frank Sinatra. He's got this casino,
[40:52] Speaker 2: this hotel in Reno he's staying at, and everybody's been
[40:55] Speaker 2: talking about on the news. I'm just gonna call there.
[40:57] Speaker 2: And then you asked to talk to Frank.
[40:58] Speaker 3: Did he have the cal Neiva?
[41:00] Speaker 2: He owned the calnd with Sam g and Connham.
[41:02] Speaker 3: That's right.
[41:03] Speaker 2: He was like bask of the front person for it,
[41:06] Speaker 2: and so yes, good job, darn They all. Yeah. You
[41:09] Speaker 2: see that in the Godfather they have the whole scene
[41:11] Speaker 2: up and tile that's kind of like a nod to
[41:12] Speaker 2: the calend Even so, now Barry's like, okay, I can't
[41:16] Speaker 2: really count on Joe, but at least he'll hopefully keep
[41:18] Speaker 2: Frank sinout your junior safe in the hideout while John
[41:21] Speaker 2: Irwin and I go take care of this come on
[41:23] Speaker 2: Mama's ex. And so they go and they're like, okay,
[41:25] Speaker 2: let's call Frank Senior. They call up the hotel and
[41:27] Speaker 2: Frank Stiner was like, okay, these are the kidnappers. Let
[41:29] Speaker 2: me hear from him right, And he's like okay, boom,
[41:33] Speaker 2: hey Frank, we got your boy. And they're like what.
[41:35] Speaker 2: Frank's freaks out. He's like, I'll give you a million
[41:38] Speaker 2: dollars from my son. And he's like, oh, just a second, Frank,
[41:41] Speaker 2: you're geting ahead of yourself. We're gonna call you at
[41:43] Speaker 2: this Chevron station and they give him an address. They
[41:45] Speaker 2: go go there, we'll call you in a couple of
[41:46] Speaker 2: minutes and he's like okay, so then hang up. So
[41:49] Speaker 2: then Frank, you know you're in an FBI agent, drive
[41:52] Speaker 2: off to that Chevron station. Meanwhile, John Irwin calls the
[41:55] Speaker 2: Chevron station. He's like, hey, frank'sina you're there. The guy
[41:58] Speaker 2: working at the gas station's like, uh no, hangs up, Frank.
[42:02] Speaker 2: So Jon Irman calls back, Hey is Frank Sinatra. There
[42:06] Speaker 2: this guy at the gas station. He's like, what the hell, pal,
[42:07] Speaker 2: He's like, listen, pal, Mister Sinatra is not in the
[42:10] Speaker 2: habit of taking calls at the chevron station hangs up.
[42:13] Speaker 2: Then a car pulls up. Out steps Frank Sinatra. The
[42:18] Speaker 2: dude from the Chevron station's like what. He's like, Hey,
[42:20] Speaker 2: I'm Frank Sinatra. Have I had any calls?
[42:22] Speaker 3: Oh?
[42:23] Speaker 2: Man, can you imagine that moment for that too. He's like,
[42:26] Speaker 2: gets called one call to call three. Just Frank is
[42:28] Speaker 2: Frank Sinatra. There's Frank Sinatra. Hey, I'm Frank Sinatra. Any calls?
[42:32] Speaker 3: Oh my god.
[42:33] Speaker 2: So you know that guy, he's been getting free drinks
[42:36] Speaker 2: for life on that anyway, Irwin calls again. Frank gets
[42:39] Speaker 2: this call and he's like, Hey, I'm Frank Sinatra. He's like,
[42:41] Speaker 2: thank goodness. And so then now he's like, Frank's like, look,
[42:44] Speaker 2: I'll give you a million dollars, my boy. He's like, no,
[42:47] Speaker 2: Barry only wants two hundred and forty thousand dollars. So
[42:51] Speaker 2: they low ball Frank Sinatra and the hass for two
[42:55] Speaker 2: hundred and forty thousand dollars according to their plan. He
[42:57] Speaker 2: goes here's the deal. You need you get an FBI
[42:59] Speaker 2: courier to go to a payphone in La and then
[43:02] Speaker 2: we'll call that payphone and tell him to go to
[43:03] Speaker 2: another payphone, and then we'll call that payphone, and then
[43:05] Speaker 2: we'll go to another payphone and we'll call that payphone,
[43:08] Speaker 2: and we'll keep doing that till we decide that you
[43:10] Speaker 2: can go to the right drop And he's like okay,
[43:13] Speaker 2: So then they do this. They set up this drop
[43:15] Speaker 2: and on December eleventh, the money is left by the
[43:17] Speaker 2: FBI at a drop spot on Sunset Boulevard. Joe Amsler
[43:21] Speaker 2: and Barrier driving around and looking for the drop spot,
[43:24] Speaker 2: they see the money's there between two school buses in
[43:26] Speaker 2: a black bag, just like they ask. He goes, Joe
[43:29] Speaker 2: get out, grab the money. Joe gets out, he sees
[43:33] Speaker 2: something doesn't feel right. Joe just runs away, just.
[43:35] Speaker 3: Takes off, just like in the Woods.
[43:37] Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. Barry's like, ah man, So now he drives,
[43:40] Speaker 2: he drives around the block, he finds parking, he gets out,
[43:44] Speaker 2: he goes to get the money. He goes like, you
[43:46] Speaker 2: know what, I saw these like ice cream trucks and
[43:48] Speaker 2: like all these cabs. I was like those guys are
[43:50] Speaker 2: the FBI. I don't care. I'm getting the money. He
[43:52] Speaker 2: goes and gets some money. Anyway, drives away, right, he
[43:54] Speaker 2: gets away with it. Meanwhile, John Erwin's like I've had it.
[43:56] Speaker 2: I'm done with this. So he's like, Frank, get in
[43:58] Speaker 2: the car. He calls Frank Senior. He's like, look, i'm
[44:00] Speaker 2: taking your boy. I'm giving him back to you. You'll
[44:02] Speaker 2: find him on this overpass over the four or five
[44:05] Speaker 2: freeway and he's like click, hangs up. It's like, Frank Junior,
[44:07] Speaker 2: get in the car. We're going cozy drives. He drops
[44:10] Speaker 2: Frank Junior off on the overpass over the four or five.
[44:12] Speaker 2: He's like get out. It's like okay, and he just starts,
[44:15] Speaker 2: you know, running off on his own. Meanwhile, Frank Senior
[44:18] Speaker 2: is looking for him, driving around, but Frank Junior doesn't
[44:20] Speaker 2: know to wait there, so he runs to bell Air
[44:25] Speaker 2: and the security guard season's like hey, Frank Junior, and
[44:28] Speaker 2: he tries to get him past all the reporters and
[44:30] Speaker 2: he takes them all the way to his house. The
[44:32] Speaker 2: family rejoices. Everything is golden now so far, all is good.
[44:36] Speaker 2: Everything is worked. The press which has been after Frank
[44:39] Speaker 2: Sinatra's senior for being mob affiliated. Also for like you know,
[44:44] Speaker 2: basically there's a whole issue about the the Kennedy's. Basically
[44:46] Speaker 2: Bobby Kennedy was going after him for the mob stuff,
[44:49] Speaker 2: and so he was looking bad about this. Now he's this.
[44:52] Speaker 3: Poor father incredible.
[44:54] Speaker 2: And also he worked with the FBI. The FBI is like, oh,
[44:56] Speaker 2: we're tight with Frank. It's cool. He loves at the house.
[44:58] Speaker 2: Oh yeah. So now of a sudden, all his problems
[45:01] Speaker 2: go away. So he's actually kind of been done a
[45:03] Speaker 2: solid by Barry. Berry's like, look, just like God said,
[45:06] Speaker 2: everybody wins. So he's like convinced everything's cold, and he's like, okay,
[45:11] Speaker 2: let's go celebrate. So Barry and Joe go back to
[45:13] Speaker 2: their hideout. They take all the money they got, They
[45:15] Speaker 2: throw it on like the ground.
[45:16] Speaker 3: And roll around.
[45:17] Speaker 2: I quote literally, we all we laid all the money out,
[45:20] Speaker 2: danced on it, lit cigarettes with it, did all the
[45:22] Speaker 2: things we'd seen in the movies. We had a money war,
[45:24] Speaker 2: throwing wads of bills at each other.
[45:26] Speaker 3: I think I figured out why Barry's business acumen wasn't
[45:30] Speaker 3: so hot. Yeah, I think we've made he lit the
[45:32] Speaker 3: money on fire to light cigarettes.
[45:33] Speaker 2: With Yeah, you ever done that? You don't? You know,
[45:35] Speaker 2: smoke cigarettes?
[45:36] Speaker 3: You know?
[45:37] Speaker 2: Yeah? Anyway, and I'm.
[45:38] Speaker 3: Not a moron would steal money, like get money then
[45:41] Speaker 3: light it on fire.
[45:42] Speaker 2: It's very much like, you know, a cartel dream I
[45:44] Speaker 2: think some young boys have. Anyway. John Irwin's like, look,
[45:50] Speaker 2: I'm out. I'm so dumb with you guys.
[45:52] Speaker 3: Yes.
[45:52] Speaker 2: So he's like, I'm forty two, I'm a navy vet.
[45:54] Speaker 2: I ain't got time for this. So he's like, I'm
[45:56] Speaker 2: going to New Orleans and I'm gonna go be safe
[45:59] Speaker 2: and happy there. So he goes like, first I gotta
[46:01] Speaker 2: go see down my boy, my brother down in San Diego.
[46:04] Speaker 2: So he pops down to San Diego. He's like, hey,
[46:07] Speaker 2: my brother, I'm leaving the area. I gotta go to
[46:09] Speaker 2: New Orleans. But first I want to tell you a
[46:11] Speaker 2: little secret, a little funny story. What your brother's been
[46:13] Speaker 2: up to. I grab Frank's not your junior. I did
[46:16] Speaker 2: it me and my friends. I got all this money,
[46:18] Speaker 2: been that wild. His brother's like, are you kidding me?
[46:22] Speaker 2: You can't do that. Frank Sinatra's boy, He's like, okay,
[46:25] Speaker 2: well I'm tired. Let me just take a nap and
[46:27] Speaker 2: I'll get out of your hair. He's like, okay, So
[46:29] Speaker 2: he lays down to go to sleep. His brother immediately
[46:32] Speaker 2: calls the cops. The cops show up and arrest him.
[46:34] Speaker 3: So his brother has a higher allegiance to Frank's.
[46:37] Speaker 2: Exactly, his brother snitches on him. He's like, look, I
[46:39] Speaker 2: gotta look out for Frank. So then now we got
[46:42] Speaker 2: Joe Joe Amsler. He gets popped by he's like playing
[46:45] Speaker 2: chess by at a friend's house. He's playing chess, yes,
[46:49] Speaker 2: And then Barry eventually gets arrested at his girlfriend's place.
[46:52] Speaker 3: So Pam.
[46:53] Speaker 2: They all, yeah, dear old Pam. So they all now
[46:55] Speaker 2: have to go to court cases. The trials last for
[46:57] Speaker 2: about four weeks. Barry refuses to plead guilty by insanity
[47:01] Speaker 2: because he's like, no, I meant to do this, God
[47:04] Speaker 2: told me to do it. I don't know what you
[47:05] Speaker 2: people are talking about. And so his lawyers put forward
[47:07] Speaker 2: this other whack theory that is Frank jun junior. This
[47:11] Speaker 2: is a hoax. He arranged this, he was in on it,
[47:14] Speaker 2: and they put this out and they say this before
[47:15] Speaker 2: the press, which is messed up because now for the
[47:17] Speaker 2: rest of.
[47:17] Speaker 3: His life Frank's smart.
[47:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, it is crazy smart, but he doesn't get the
[47:21] Speaker 2: guys off. They go down for seventy five years each. Whoa,
[47:24] Speaker 2: oh yeah. But the one good thing is I have
[47:26] Speaker 2: to get Frank Junior credit. When he goes up on
[47:28] Speaker 2: the witness stand, he says the truth, the whole truth,
[47:30] Speaker 2: and nothing but the truth. He even admits that I
[47:33] Speaker 2: hope you guys get away with This is one of
[47:35] Speaker 2: the quotes he admits to in court. So that's part
[47:38] Speaker 2: of the reason why he kind of messes himself up
[47:40] Speaker 2: because he says that. Before the hoax gets put forward anyway,
[47:43] Speaker 2: he gets burned. The three guys all get sentenced to
[47:46] Speaker 2: seventy five years plus life for Amsler and Barry. Irwin
[47:51] Speaker 2: only gets seventy five years anyway. Eventually the people are like,
[47:53] Speaker 2: that's cruel, unusual, ridiculous. It gets tracked down to three
[47:56] Speaker 2: and a half years for Amsler and Irwin, four and
[47:59] Speaker 2: a half years for Barry, cut.
[48:01] Speaker 3: From seventy five and a half years. They're like close enough.
[48:05] Speaker 2: By nineteen sixty eight, Barry is out. By nineteen eighty three,
[48:08] Speaker 2: he's got a fortune of seventeen million dollars. Remember he
[48:11] Speaker 2: was good at business. Yeah, he just needed that two
[48:13] Speaker 2: hundred and forty thousand dollars he could get back on top.
[48:16] Speaker 3: It sounds like Barry was just going through a time.
[48:19] Speaker 3: He was spinning out a little bit.
[48:20] Speaker 2: Real rough time for him.
[48:21] Speaker 3: Wow. Anyway, I feel like we've all known a Barry.
[48:24] Speaker 2: I think I've known a few Berries.
[48:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[48:26] Speaker 2: I just tried not to be a Barry.
[48:28] Speaker 3: Just don't be a Berry.
[48:29] Speaker 2: So eventually he opens a substance abuse clinic for other
[48:32] Speaker 2: addicts to get clean. He wants to put his fortune
[48:34] Speaker 2: to good use. In the late nineties, though, interestingly, Barry
[48:37] Speaker 2: and Frank Sinatra Junior used to see each other Beverly
[48:39] Speaker 2: Hills social like events like you know, fundraisers and so forth,
[48:42] Speaker 2: and they would seeach other across the room. They never talked.
[48:44] Speaker 2: They would just yeah, they woul They'd give each other
[48:46] Speaker 2: a nod and like a friendly like maybe you remember
[48:49] Speaker 2: that trip wild time. So Frank Sinatra he died in
[48:54] Speaker 2: nineteen ninety eight. At his funeral, his youngest daughter, Tinam,
[48:57] Speaker 2: she slipped ten dimes into his pocket because she knew
[49:00] Speaker 2: that her dad always carried ten dines on him at
[49:02] Speaker 2: all times. This was like something that really meant something
[49:05] Speaker 2: to her, and she chalked it up to the kidnapping
[49:08] Speaker 2: and a quoteen of Sinatra. I think it came from
[49:11] Speaker 2: Frankie's kidnapping. Maybe before he never wanted to get caught.
[49:13] Speaker 2: Not able to make a phone call, he always carried
[49:16] Speaker 2: ten dimes.
[49:17] Speaker 3: Wow.
[49:18] Speaker 2: Nice. I just like that as a father.
[49:20] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, And I mean he's Frank Sinatra. He could
[49:23] Speaker 3: just say to someone.
[49:24] Speaker 2: Call, yeah, hey, big Jilly, get that phone. Yeah.
[49:27] Speaker 3: You don't even need a payphone. You just walk into
[49:29] Speaker 3: any establishment or someone's home.
[49:31] Speaker 2: Hey, I'm Frank Sinati.
[49:32] Speaker 3: Bank Sinatra kicks in your front door like I need
[49:35] Speaker 3: to make a phone call. You're like, yes, mister Sinatra,
[49:37] Speaker 3: can I get you anything else? You start mixing drinks.
[49:40] Speaker 2: Panickings, anything for your two hood friends.
[49:43] Speaker 3: If you're like hiding all your avalony hunting equipment, be cool,
[49:47] Speaker 3: be cool.
[49:47] Speaker 2: Cool. So what's a ridiculous takeaway from this one? Oh?
[49:50] Speaker 3: Wow? I think that again. Everybody knows Barry like some
[49:55] Speaker 3: of the ridiculous stuff that he pulls off, and his'
[50:00] Speaker 3: really stuck on that. I'll give you a million dollars
[50:03] Speaker 3: you know I need. All I need is two forty.
[50:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the number I wanted. I'm going to low
[50:07] Speaker 2: by your friend. The Lord told me this is a
[50:10] Speaker 2: business deal. I'm a businessman.
[50:11] Speaker 3: I mean, why wouldn't you just be like, yeah, that'll work.
[50:15] Speaker 3: Did he feel like maybe if he was honest about
[50:18] Speaker 3: how much he.
[50:19] Speaker 2: Needed that all he needed? He didn't want any more.
[50:21] Speaker 2: He wanted to keep to his deal.
[50:22] Speaker 3: So he's not really greedy and he's on a mission
[50:24] Speaker 3: from God. Yeah he was in seagulls.
[50:28] Speaker 2: My ridiculous takeaway is wasn't life wild before cell phones?
[50:31] Speaker 3: Oh?
[50:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, so much of this could be settled.
[50:34] Speaker 3: I love the screaming into the chevron station thing like, yeah,
[50:38] Speaker 3: that's a totally free.
[50:40] Speaker 2: Or Joe almost dying in a blizzard just because they
[50:42] Speaker 2: don't have cell phones.
[50:45] Speaker 3: Joe, I feel like we're two kids talking about a
[50:47] Speaker 3: movie and all our favorite scenes. But Joe running into
[50:50] Speaker 3: a fence post is the chef's kiss on this one,
[50:53] Speaker 3: especially because in my mind he's dressed like he's abaloney
[50:56] Speaker 3: diving and he's in the snow. So I like that lot.
[51:00] Speaker 3: But yeah, Joe, Joe just is his own thing. Is amazing.
[51:05] Speaker 2: Joe is just a spectacular being.
[51:07] Speaker 3: So we all know a Barry don't be a Barry.
[51:09] Speaker 2: Don't be a Barry. Try to be a Joe, but not.
[51:11] Speaker 3: One hundred percent, because like, if you're going to run
[51:14] Speaker 3: into the woods, don't run into a fence post. I
[51:17] Speaker 3: also like that Joe be friends Frank Samatra Junior. They're
[51:21] Speaker 3: just like doing drugs, chilling out.
[51:24] Speaker 2: When he gets back to the hideout, they've like worked
[51:26] Speaker 2: out like hole like dances and they're like, what it's
[51:29] Speaker 2: like a thing they had like a dance routine.
[51:31] Speaker 3: Wait, please, before we start this again, watch what we
[51:34] Speaker 3: came up with, like one, two, three exactly.
