[0:00] Speaker 1: Ridiculous Crime. It's a production of iHeartRadio.
[0:03] Speaker 2: Elizabeth and Saren. Oh my god, if I got a
[0:08] Speaker 2: question for you, girl, do you know what it's ridiculous?
[0:10] Speaker 3: I do you look like you?
[0:12] Speaker 4: It's yeah, I was reading it and making faces. It's
[0:17] Speaker 4: we've gotten this from a couple listeners. But it's a
[0:22] Speaker 4: It's not a mashup unless you count the human body and.
[0:28] Speaker 3: Beef.
[0:31] Speaker 2: Depends on how they're combined.
[0:33] Speaker 3: Okay, So there's this guy in his forties.
[0:36] Speaker 4: You know, people listen to the TikTok and all about
[0:40] Speaker 4: all sorts of things, and I think one of the
[0:43] Speaker 4: worst things that they listen about.
[0:45] Speaker 2: Is like healthy advice.
[0:47] Speaker 4: Yeah, dietary advice, oral health stuff. Suddenly everyone's got whatever
[0:53] Speaker 4: condition and they self right, and then there are all
[0:57] Speaker 4: these like diets of like, well, you know, drink this
[1:00] Speaker 4: tea and you'll poop yourself.
[1:01] Speaker 3: Oh gon be great.
[1:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, So because I want to do that, poop myself.
[1:05] Speaker 3: I love that.
[1:05] Speaker 2: That's how I feel helpful.
[1:06] Speaker 3: So remember Atkins was like.
[1:09] Speaker 2: Yeah, that was like I eat all the meat, right.
[1:10] Speaker 3: Eat all the meat, like bacon it up.
[1:12] Speaker 2: Then he I have a heart attack.
[1:13] Speaker 3: No carbs. I think he did. Actually, so this guy
[1:15] Speaker 3: in his forties.
[1:16] Speaker 4: He saw these online things about how you have to
[1:19] Speaker 4: eat like a high fat, meat heavy diet and that you'll,
[1:24] Speaker 4: you know, transcend into a body of an Adonis and
[1:28] Speaker 4: the mind of a genius. So he did that, and
[1:32] Speaker 4: every single day for eight months, he ate.
[1:35] Speaker 2: How can you think anything you do every day, like
[1:38] Speaker 2: we're going to eat the same thing every day every
[1:39] Speaker 2: eight month, eight months, How can you imagine that's gonna
[1:42] Speaker 2: be good? I mean, like, just come on, man, But.
[1:44] Speaker 4: You know what he ate every day eight months? Six
[1:48] Speaker 4: to nine pounds what of cheese, stix of butter and hamburgers,
[1:55] Speaker 4: ham murgers. I'm gonna guess the no bun so just
[1:58] Speaker 4: like ground.
[1:59] Speaker 2: So in total to nine pounds of all these things cheese.
[2:02] Speaker 2: So we're talking like two pounds of per meal.
[2:04] Speaker 4: Essentially two pounds.
[2:07] Speaker 2: Two to three pounds per meal like ground ba more
[2:10] Speaker 2: than a quarter pounder, right, because that's a quarter of
[2:12] Speaker 2: a pound. He's got to four quarter pounders to get
[2:15] Speaker 2: up to a pound. And then that's that's it, says
[2:19] Speaker 2: cooking it down.
[2:20] Speaker 3: So he lost weight.
[2:21] Speaker 4: Yeah, he had increased energy and improved mental clarity.
[2:26] Speaker 3: However, then he went to the hospital.
[2:29] Speaker 2: Because his cholesterol was through the roof hands.
[2:33] Speaker 4: The palms of his hands, his elbows, and the soles
[2:35] Speaker 4: of his feet were covered in these like smooth yellowish
[2:38] Speaker 4: nodules like deposits. A picture is fast, it's it's cholesterol.
[2:44] Speaker 2: It's actual cholesterol, just pooling itchlesteroleterol. It leaked out of
[2:49] Speaker 2: his arteries and veins.
[2:50] Speaker 4: His cholesterol levels exceeded one thousand milligrams per desolater and
[2:55] Speaker 4: that his baseline is two ten to three hundred normal
[2:58] Speaker 4: cholesterol ranges or low two hundred, and so we had
[3:03] Speaker 4: it's called zam philasma sure lesterol deposits that build on
[3:08] Speaker 4: the skin, and so it happens like one percent of
[3:11] Speaker 4: women in point three percent of men that if you
[3:14] Speaker 4: have this, you get yellow growths on your eyelids near
[3:18] Speaker 4: the nose.
[3:19] Speaker 3: But it means that, like.
[3:20] Speaker 4: You know, your heart's really struggling because you got a
[3:22] Speaker 4: lot of the cholesterol you need cholesterol, but not all
[3:25] Speaker 4: of the cholesterol.
[3:26] Speaker 2: Yeah, you need all the things. You need fat, you
[3:28] Speaker 2: need salt, you need cholesterol. Nothing is bad. It's the house.
[3:31] Speaker 4: He went so hard in the paint that it was
[3:34] Speaker 4: coming out of his hands, and the pictures are so gnarly.
[3:38] Speaker 4: But it's like I'm just thinking, like he must have
[3:41] Speaker 4: smelled terrible.
[3:43] Speaker 2: Oh my god, yes, well that cholesterol. Beef dogs loved him,
[3:48] Speaker 2: and cheese dogs are licking the skin.
[3:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, he's just I am become cow.
[3:52] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[3:53] Speaker 3: Yeah, oh god, dogs, You're right. That is ridiculous. Thank
[3:59] Speaker 3: you very much. What's your ridiculous takeaway?
[4:02] Speaker 2: Wow, he's going to need a moment to recover from.
[4:07] Speaker 3: I literally was reading the news article about it.
[4:09] Speaker 4: And realized I was making this really bad face, like
[4:13] Speaker 4: a stink face, And then I got to the pictures
[4:16] Speaker 4: you're making it now?
[4:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, if you got a second, I got one. It's
[4:21] Speaker 2: not nearly as gross, but it's ridiculous.
[4:23] Speaker 3: I appreciate that.
[4:24] Speaker 2: Elizabeth. If I say the words psychic detective, what do.
[4:28] Speaker 3: You picture a psychic detective?
[4:31] Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Well today I have a story for you
[4:34] Speaker 2: that will answer the question of what is the answer
[4:37] Speaker 2: to that question? And I guarantee it's ridiculous.
[4:41] Speaker 5: I love this.
[5:02] Speaker 2: This is Ridiculous Crime, a podcast about absurd and outrageous capers,
[5:08] Speaker 2: heist and cons. It's always ninety nine percent murder free
[5:11] Speaker 2: and one h hundred percent ridiculous.
[5:14] Speaker 3: Amen.
[5:15] Speaker 2: Oh, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, We've covered so many strange stories. We've
[5:19] Speaker 2: had psychic horses, We've had pet detectives.
[5:22] Speaker 3: Yep.
[5:22] Speaker 2: Today I want to tell you a story that combines those.
[5:25] Speaker 2: For a psychic detective.
[5:26] Speaker 3: Is it a horse?
[5:27] Speaker 2: No, but it's not like a how it sounds. The
[5:30] Speaker 2: detective is not a psychic. Instead, he investigates fake psychics.
[5:34] Speaker 4: Oh yes, yes, like a dude dude Bro I talked about.
[5:38] Speaker 2: Exactly, dude Bro, just like him. This is Bob Nierguard.
[5:43] Speaker 2: He's dude. Bro's a colleague, okay, colleague. Yeah, my man
[5:47] Speaker 2: Bob is a real old school detective. Like he dresses
[5:50] Speaker 2: like an old school gum shoe he does. Yeah, his
[5:52] Speaker 2: heroes are my man Sam Spade, like the Humphrey Bogart versus.
[5:56] Speaker 3: Is he like current modern day.
[5:58] Speaker 2: Yes, he is a like two thousand teens and two
[6:01] Speaker 2: thousand oughts.
[6:02] Speaker 3: Anywhere, like a door, but not in a Milady way.
[6:06] Speaker 2: Like snap brim. Humphrey bock Art felt like, you know.
[6:09] Speaker 3: He pull it off.
[6:11] Speaker 2: It's abatable, you know, like he pulls it off.
[6:14] Speaker 3: For him.
[6:14] Speaker 2: I would say this, his attitude is right for it.
[6:17] Speaker 2: He pulls it off.
[6:18] Speaker 3: I love that.
[6:18] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean like I would recommend that he go
[6:21] Speaker 2: fully into it, get himself like one of those Borcelino
[6:23] Speaker 2: nice like Italian like felt like crushed, the kind of
[6:28] Speaker 2: you know Humphy bo Art would have worn. Yeah, exactly,
[6:30] Speaker 2: but whatever, we don't even I'm not even sure if
[6:31] Speaker 2: you have those types of hats available to the average
[6:34] Speaker 2: person anymore. You know, I don't like they have to
[6:36] Speaker 2: like travel to Italy. Yeah, you gotta like really go
[6:39] Speaker 2: around to like the Chappoe shop.
[6:40] Speaker 4: I think most men I'm looking to useer and should
[6:43] Speaker 4: just go buy all their clothes in Italy, oh, because
[6:46] Speaker 4: I mean everyone has the resources for that totally.
[6:48] Speaker 2: And I've got a lot of reasons to France, to
[6:50] Speaker 2: travel outside of the States and to get out able
[6:54] Speaker 2: to maybe get myself some outfits, some new fits.
[6:57] Speaker 3: I'm looking to get deported something.
[6:59] Speaker 4: I don't know where to where they would deport me,
[7:01] Speaker 4: but I mean I don't anticipate it.
[7:03] Speaker 3: Yeah it's coming.
[7:04] Speaker 2: If they deported me, I'd have to be sent in pieces.
[7:07] Speaker 2: Some go here, some go there.
[7:08] Speaker 3: Likewise here.
[7:11] Speaker 2: So my man, Bob Niguard as I said, his personal
[7:15] Speaker 2: style is a trench coat clad detectives right the snap
[7:18] Speaker 2: brim Fedora. So picture that and then also I'll tell
[7:22] Speaker 2: you about the man inside the outfit with the clothes
[7:25] Speaker 2: don't make Bob Niguard was once a cop. Not only that,
[7:28] Speaker 2: he was born in Queens, raised in Long Island, and
[7:30] Speaker 2: became a cop for the NYPD. Nice, yeah, transit cop
[7:34] Speaker 2: work in the subway in the eighties when it was
[7:38] Speaker 2: like the like, yeah, the rough eighties. Like people were like, yes, exactly,
[7:42] Speaker 2: a little post Curperco, post Bernie Getz, you know, like
[7:46] Speaker 2: right just just after that. But like this is like
[7:49] Speaker 2: when you had the Guardian Angels, right, like those guys
[7:52] Speaker 2: cruising around.
[7:53] Speaker 4: And they hadn't cleaned up Times Square yet.
[7:54] Speaker 2: No, yeah, no, this was still grimy and cracky and shows, yeah,
[7:58] Speaker 2: the whole bit. Yeah. As Bob Nygard said of his
[8:02] Speaker 2: time as a transit cup Weather, I got along with
[8:06] Speaker 2: the criminals better than I did with my colleagues. I
[8:08] Speaker 2: was like oil and water at the police department. So
[8:10] Speaker 2: we got a real loose cannon here, Elizabeth, real cowboy.
[8:13] Speaker 2: I know how you love them now. Despite being a
[8:16] Speaker 2: superco two point zero, he does credit his time behind
[8:19] Speaker 2: the Blue Line from making him into the private dick
[8:22] Speaker 2: that he would become. As he put it, quote, I
[8:24] Speaker 2: wouldn't be the PI I am today without all the
[8:26] Speaker 2: lessons I learned on the street. Yeah, life on the street. Now,
[8:30] Speaker 2: late in his career as a cop, he began to
[8:32] Speaker 2: focus on crime that he would later focus on as
[8:34] Speaker 2: a PI. Bob worked insurance scams, sweetheart swindles, Spanish prisoner cons,
[8:40] Speaker 2: fortune telling, grifters, and this is how Bob decided to
[8:43] Speaker 2: join up with the National Association of Bunco Investigators. You
[8:47] Speaker 2: need to get a membership.
[8:49] Speaker 3: For the Yeah, like yesterday.
[8:51] Speaker 2: I know, right, I didn't even know it was the thing.
[8:52] Speaker 2: But now I'm like, I gotta get you a gift
[8:54] Speaker 2: membership of Bunco Investigator.
[8:57] Speaker 4: All right, Well I have that badge Nabi.
[9:00] Speaker 2: Okay, you do have the Special Investigator mat certified.
[9:04] Speaker 3: Dude, I'm gonna start carrying that with me.
[9:06] Speaker 4: I don't know why you don't, because I used to
[9:08] Speaker 4: be worried i'd get arrested for having it.
[9:11] Speaker 3: Now it's gonna save.
[9:12] Speaker 2: Me, yes, exactly. You go out there and fight law
[9:15] Speaker 2: in order to know.
[9:17] Speaker 6: So.
[9:18] Speaker 2: After Bob retired from being a cop, then he did
[9:20] Speaker 2: what so many retired New York cops too. Elizabeth he
[9:23] Speaker 2: moved to Florida, specifically Boca Raton, Florida. I don't I
[9:26] Speaker 2: don't think any boat because I know he got bored.
[9:29] Speaker 2: And then once he got bored, he went back to
[9:31] Speaker 2: what he did best. He started investigating scams, cons grifters,
[9:35] Speaker 2: and Florida has plenty of those. So he decided, I'm
[9:38] Speaker 2: gonna go pro. There's enough of a market here. So
[9:41] Speaker 2: he took a PI test, got himself a license, and
[9:44] Speaker 2: now here he was the same as Magnum p I
[9:47] Speaker 2: my man Jim Rockford was a licensed private investigator.
[9:50] Speaker 3: You were short shirts under the trench.
[9:52] Speaker 2: That would be amazing, showing like thigh me.
[9:57] Speaker 3: Trend like sir, please sure, oh dear wait leave it open.
[10:00] Speaker 2: So the paradise that he picked wasn't Hawaii in the
[10:03] Speaker 2: eighties or La in the seventies. He picked Florida in
[10:05] Speaker 2: the early odds. That's when he starts his career right.
[10:07] Speaker 2: The work paid well. He earned about five grand case.
[10:11] Speaker 2: Sometimes in complicated affairs, he might charge as much as
[10:14] Speaker 2: twenty percent of what he recovered. Okay tonb a lot.
[10:17] Speaker 2: You know her minded my man Travis McGee, the fictional detective,
[10:21] Speaker 2: I like, yeah, he was a salvage consultant. He took
[10:24] Speaker 2: fifty percent of what he recovered. So this guy, Bob's
[10:26] Speaker 2: a deal.
[10:27] Speaker 4: Yeah, Travis mcgee'e, you do, I know, right? I think
[10:30] Speaker 4: everyone's got to have like a detective.
[10:32] Speaker 2: Who's their detective?
[10:33] Speaker 4: Their mine would be bosh, yes, lash, Yes, that's.
[10:38] Speaker 2: Very creating for you.
[10:39] Speaker 4: Greatest book series, greatest TV show.
[10:41] Speaker 2: I got to get into this. I have them. You
[10:43] Speaker 2: gave me a few. I gotta read them, to read them.
[10:45] Speaker 2: So where well? Oh yeah, Bob, he decides to become
[10:47] Speaker 2: a psychic detective. Why, great question, listen, thank you.
[10:51] Speaker 3: I was just wondering that he started.
[10:53] Speaker 2: To investigate the sort of crime as he'd done as
[10:55] Speaker 2: an NYPD cop. Right, so then you know, with the
[10:58] Speaker 2: plenty of work, he's like, okay, two thousand and eight,
[11:00] Speaker 2: I'm going to become a psychic detective. His first case
[11:04] Speaker 2: hooked him. It was a doozy Elizabeth. It was a Wednesday.
[11:06] Speaker 2: Bob was thirsty as a sailor on shore leave, so
[11:09] Speaker 2: he spent some shoe leather taking the short hike over
[11:12] Speaker 2: to his favorite watering hole, a neighborhood bar still happy hour,
[11:15] Speaker 2: Bob ordered his first drink now before he knew it.
[11:18] Speaker 2: Bob's chatting with a pair of dames, eager to hear
[11:20] Speaker 2: about his days as a New York detective. He's impressed
[11:23] Speaker 2: in the Florida ladies with some of his war stories
[11:25] Speaker 2: from his days on the street. The dames amused. Bob
[11:28] Speaker 2: gave them one of his business cards in case they
[11:30] Speaker 2: ever needed a private dick to help them out sometime,
[11:33] Speaker 2: wouldn't you know, Elizabeth. It wasn't long before one of
[11:35] Speaker 2: the women called him, like, not long at all. Fifteen
[11:39] Speaker 2: minutes after Bob left the bar, the woman asked him
[11:42] Speaker 2: if he would meet her somewhere discreet. He asked her
[11:46] Speaker 2: where she had in mind. She named a gas station
[11:49] Speaker 2: the mobile on the corner. So it turns out it
[11:51] Speaker 2: wasn't a love connection. Instead, she needed a PI. The
[11:54] Speaker 2: woman was a doctor. She sounded embarrassed about the fact
[11:58] Speaker 2: that she needed his help. Recalls The doctor said, quote,
[12:01] Speaker 2: I didn't want to say this in front of my friend,
[12:03] Speaker 2: but a psychic has taken over ninety thousand dollars from me.
[12:06] Speaker 2: Whoa yeah, whoa yeah, like reached into her pocket and
[12:09] Speaker 2: took it. No, not exactly, so this is how much
[12:12] Speaker 2: it takes. Before she realized she's being conn ninety grand
[12:15] Speaker 2: that was her line, right, So Bob he agrees to
[12:18] Speaker 2: take the case, and this was his first case. The
[12:21] Speaker 2: psychic was a woman named Gina Marie Marx. She was
[12:23] Speaker 2: a Florida psychic, well known notorious fortune teller in the
[12:27] Speaker 2: Miami area.
[12:28] Speaker 4: She'd be a notorious Miami fortune teller.
[12:31] Speaker 2: Is so suitable for you, Like you go to your
[12:33] Speaker 2: high school reunion. What are you doing, Elizabeth? Well, I'm
[12:35] Speaker 2: a notorious fortune teller in the Miami area.
[12:38] Speaker 3: I can think of all sorts of things.
[12:40] Speaker 5: Well.
[12:40] Speaker 2: She'd written the book Oh by the Way, under her
[12:42] Speaker 2: pen name Regina Milbourne, which reminded me of your pen name,
[12:45] Speaker 2: Regina corn Tower. Yeah, so I was like, wow, you
[12:48] Speaker 2: two are like, am I her? Yeah? I was kind
[12:51] Speaker 2: of wondering. I was going to I'm confused, but I
[12:53] Speaker 2: saw pictures. I was like, Okay, that's not Elizabeth. Okay,
[12:56] Speaker 2: yeah no, But anyway, using the name pen name Regina Milbourne,
[13:00] Speaker 2: South Florida psychic, she writes this book called Miami Psychic
[13:02] Speaker 2: Confessions of a Confidant. Most of it was lies, apparently,
[13:06] Speaker 2: I don't know. So the doctor told Bob that she
[13:08] Speaker 2: first went to visit this psychic after she came to
[13:11] Speaker 2: believe that a coworker had placed a curse on her.
[13:14] Speaker 2: According to the doctor, her coworker, I'm assuming a nurse
[13:17] Speaker 2: buried a piece of rotting meat and the curse was
[13:19] Speaker 2: causing her life to deteriorate, just the same as the
[13:22] Speaker 2: meat was underground. Also, she was worried that the curse
[13:25] Speaker 2: would eventually lead her to being deported from the United States.
[13:28] Speaker 2: Those are the fears that the psychic starts to leverage, right,
[13:31] Speaker 2: She says, Oh, I can lift this curse, but of
[13:33] Speaker 2: course it'll cost her. The doctor agrees. The psychic tells her,
[13:37] Speaker 2: you need to do whatever I say. So she's like,
[13:39] Speaker 2: we need to do a cleansing ritual. She was supposed
[13:41] Speaker 2: to rub an egg while she chanted magical words, and
[13:44] Speaker 2: then she was supposed to wrap up like thousands of
[13:46] Speaker 2: dollars inside of a silk handkerchief. Then she was to
[13:49] Speaker 2: give the handkerchief, the egg, and the thousands of dollars
[13:53] Speaker 2: to the psychic to be blessed at a sacred altar
[13:55] Speaker 2: located in Hollywood, California.
[13:57] Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that's the most sacred of places.
[14:00] Speaker 2: Just that sentence alone should tell you something.
[14:02] Speaker 6: With a.
[14:05] Speaker 2: Wall exactly so. But this wasn't all. The doctor also
[14:11] Speaker 2: needed her to burn special candles to release the curse,
[14:14] Speaker 2: and that those would also be an up charge. The
[14:16] Speaker 2: doctor gave the psychic her credit card info to pay
[14:18] Speaker 2: for all of it.
[14:19] Speaker 3: Those candles better small gag.
[14:20] Speaker 2: Oh, I'm telling you, and long burning, I hope. So
[14:23] Speaker 2: after she finished telling Bob her said sad tale of whoa,
[14:26] Speaker 2: she asked the psychic detective to get her justice.
[14:28] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[14:29] Speaker 2: Now she was not the first or the only victim
[14:31] Speaker 2: of this infamous South Florida psychic. As Bob investigates and
[14:34] Speaker 2: starts getting into the case, he learns as another victim,
[14:37] Speaker 2: a young attorney Miami who was built out of three
[14:39] Speaker 2: hundred and twelve thousand dollars. That's more than three times
[14:43] Speaker 2: more than the doctor. We got a doctor and an attorney,
[14:46] Speaker 2: yes together between them four hundred grand, just two victims. Wow,
[14:50] Speaker 2: an attorney and a doctor. Now, just like with the doctor,
[14:52] Speaker 2: the psychic GenAm remarks, had the young attorney run the
[14:55] Speaker 2: same psychic therapy with the egg and the thousands of dollars?
[14:58] Speaker 2: You know what, I haven't given you a proper d
[15:00] Speaker 2: tails of the old egg business. Please the victims were
[15:02] Speaker 2: supposed to take an egg and rub it all over
[15:04] Speaker 2: their naked body.
[15:05] Speaker 3: That would be it was in front of the psychic
[15:07] Speaker 3: or just.
[15:08] Speaker 2: At home at their discretion. That would be the first
[15:11] Speaker 2: step to undo the voodoo curse.
[15:12] Speaker 3: Right, whimper, no, no, maybe.
[15:16] Speaker 2: Close your eyes. I'm gonna rob it. I'm robbing it.
[15:19] Speaker 2: So this would be the first step to unlock the
[15:22] Speaker 2: voodoo curse that she was under, and she believed that
[15:24] Speaker 2: there had been placed on her by her childhood Haitian maid.
[15:29] Speaker 2: So she did as instructed to rub the egg on
[15:31] Speaker 2: her naked body and brought it back to the psychic,
[15:33] Speaker 2: who then took the egg, cracked it, and Elizabeth, a
[15:35] Speaker 2: live black spider crawled out of the cracked eggshell. What boom?
[15:40] Speaker 2: That did it? The lawyer knew she was cursed, right.
[15:42] Speaker 4: You know, I'd be thinking I have such an ego
[15:44] Speaker 4: that I'd be like, I'm stronger than any of your curses.
[15:47] Speaker 3: I curse you, you know, curse what's curses over here?
[15:52] Speaker 3: But then you do the whole spider coming out of
[15:54] Speaker 3: the egg.
[15:54] Speaker 2: I lose it worked on That little magic trick was
[15:57] Speaker 2: proof of the curse for her too. So the psychic
[16:00] Speaker 2: informs the young attorney that she's possessed. Right, and then
[16:02] Speaker 2: she had not one, not two, but ninety nine evil
[16:05] Speaker 2: spirits inhabiting her body, Elizabeth, and exactly right, and soon
[16:09] Speaker 2: being rich. Ain't one right her one of her ninety
[16:13] Speaker 2: nine problems anyway. Now, Gina Marie Marks is about to
[16:15] Speaker 2: take up all this woman's money. But that is unless
[16:18] Speaker 2: my man, Bob Niguard can stop her. Now, let's take
[16:20] Speaker 2: a little break. We'll use How about this, You use
[16:23] Speaker 2: your psychic powers and after these messages, we'll see if
[16:25] Speaker 2: you can divine correctly how Bob Niguard gets justice.
[16:28] Speaker 3: Oh, I'm gonna work on that, all right, Elizabeth, We're back,
[16:51] Speaker 3: Yes we are.
[16:52] Speaker 2: How you enjoined Bob Niguard.
[16:53] Speaker 4: I love this. I'm loving this so far. But I
[16:56] Speaker 4: want a little Niguard my life.
[16:57] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[16:58] Speaker 6: So.
[16:58] Speaker 2: In twenty eighteen, Bob Niguard gave an interview to the
[17:01] Speaker 2: outlet Skeptical Inquirer, which I need to get a membership too.
[17:05] Speaker 3: Is a magazine.
[17:06] Speaker 2: It's exactly what it sounds like. It's a website devoted
[17:08] Speaker 2: to parsing fact from fiction. I love this right, It's
[17:10] Speaker 2: like with a fox molder like desire to know if
[17:12] Speaker 2: the truth is out there, I have that. In his interview,
[17:15] Speaker 2: Bob Niguard was asked, quote, do you go into every
[17:18] Speaker 2: case with a belief that there can't possibly be anything
[17:21] Speaker 2: real regarding the psychic in question? Or are you open
[17:23] Speaker 2: to finding out someone actually has the paranormal powers they
[17:26] Speaker 2: claim to have? And you know, based on his decades
[17:29] Speaker 2: as a New York cop and his decade as a
[17:31] Speaker 2: PI in Florida, Bob had a ready answer. He said,
[17:35] Speaker 2: and I quote, I'm open minded. I'm absolutely one hundred
[17:38] Speaker 2: percent open minded. I don't believe in it. I don't
[17:40] Speaker 2: believe anyone has ever been able to prove they have
[17:42] Speaker 2: psychic ability since the beginning of recorded time. But I
[17:45] Speaker 2: always look at things with an open mind.
[17:47] Speaker 3: I love it. I'm right on track with him.
[17:50] Speaker 2: The reason he remains extra suspicious is due to what
[17:52] Speaker 2: all he's seen and heard does. Bob explained the ones
[17:55] Speaker 2: that I investigate. When I first screened the call and
[17:57] Speaker 2: the person tells me about the case, it almost just
[18:00] Speaker 2: jumps out at me. Where all the lies are. The
[18:03] Speaker 2: modus operandi is very evident to me right from the start,
[18:06] Speaker 2: and there are patterns tall Marks. If you will start
[18:09] Speaker 2: the person off at a nominal fee, have a progression
[18:12] Speaker 2: of fees, create a sense of dependency, create a siege mentality.
[18:16] Speaker 2: It's a lot of the same things that you would
[18:18] Speaker 2: see from a cult leader to gain control over his followers.
[18:22] Speaker 2: So boom, now back to tack attack attack exactly, but
[18:26] Speaker 2: also just like destabilize, like separate from all family and people,
[18:30] Speaker 2: all that stuff. Right. But in the case of Gina
[18:32] Speaker 2: Marie Marks, this is definitely her mo Yeah, now where
[18:35] Speaker 2: were we? Oh, that's right, the doctor scammed by her,
[18:38] Speaker 2: and so also was a young attorney to the tune
[18:40] Speaker 2: of four hundred grands. So according to the young attorney,
[18:43] Speaker 2: she experienced nearly the same story as the doctor. Again,
[18:45] Speaker 2: there was cursed meat. Again it was buried. In the
[18:49] Speaker 2: case of the young attorney, yes, she was told that
[18:51] Speaker 2: her former haiti made from childhood, had buried an animal
[18:55] Speaker 2: carcass on the girl's parents property. But then, to make
[18:58] Speaker 2: her spell extra potent, she'd buried the other half of
[19:01] Speaker 2: the carcass high up on a mountaintop in Columbia, the
[19:05] Speaker 2: country Columbia. So the haiti goes to Columbia.
[19:09] Speaker 4: She somehow transported half of a dead what animal?
[19:12] Speaker 2: Yes, and okay, to a mountaintop in Columbia.
[19:16] Speaker 4: Someone tells you this, and like I said, I should
[19:18] Speaker 4: give you ten to curse you back, like double treble.
[19:23] Speaker 4: Your curse for touching this, your curse for doing that.
[19:26] Speaker 2: Now you're everyone's curse, your whole family cursed. So well. Anyway,
[19:30] Speaker 2: this psychic right, she's she is able to get this
[19:33] Speaker 2: past this poor attorney or about to be poor attorney.
[19:37] Speaker 2: And the psychic tells her that she needs thousands of
[19:39] Speaker 2: dollars to lift this curse, and specifically, she'd need to
[19:42] Speaker 2: travel to Colombia track up to that exact mountaintop to
[19:46] Speaker 2: remove the curse. Sure, yeah, she wouldn't just need airfare,
[19:49] Speaker 2: hotel rooms of per DM. No, the psychic would also
[19:51] Speaker 2: need some special GPS equipment to locate the exact BURI
[19:55] Speaker 2: of course, the meat from the curse. Of course, I
[19:58] Speaker 2: guess the spirits are going to give her precise GPS coordinates.
[20:01] Speaker 2: I don't know how this works anyway. One month afterwards,
[20:04] Speaker 2: the young attorney pays for the track to Columbia. The psychic,
[20:07] Speaker 2: Gina remarks, contacts the young attorney to let her know
[20:10] Speaker 2: she made the trip. I got back from Columbia, and
[20:13] Speaker 2: it was hellish. According to the psychic, she claimed that
[20:15] Speaker 2: she witnessed her trail guide die right before her eyes.
[20:21] Speaker 2: Do you want to you want to guess how? They
[20:23] Speaker 2: shouldn't be laughing, But I think it's a lie, so
[20:25] Speaker 2: I think I can laugh. Do you know how the
[20:28] Speaker 2: trail guide died right before her eyes? He was killed
[20:31] Speaker 2: by a giant mosquito. I assume it means he was
[20:36] Speaker 2: bitten and died from sickness, and not that he was
[20:38] Speaker 2: like carried off like a giant, coming down.
[20:44] Speaker 3: Like an eagle pulling a fish from the river.
[20:47] Speaker 2: Exactly. Now, you may be wondering about the curse itself. Well,
[20:51] Speaker 2: despite the jungle hike and the GPS coordinates and the giant.
[20:54] Speaker 3: Mosquito, large mosquito, the psychic told.
[20:57] Speaker 2: The young attorney she needed to do some more psychic
[21:00] Speaker 2: battle to get her fully free of the ninety nine demons.
[21:04] Speaker 2: There's ninety nine of them. So also she had good news.
[21:07] Speaker 2: The young attorney was secretly among one of the select
[21:10] Speaker 2: few who were called to save the world.
[21:12] Speaker 3: Oh that's great coincidence.
[21:14] Speaker 2: He's even better than that, Elizabeth, because she was part
[21:16] Speaker 2: of an ultra secret group known as the Group of Twelve.
[21:20] Speaker 2: It was so ultra secret that the Young Attorney didn't
[21:22] Speaker 2: even know she was a member. The Group of Twelve
[21:26] Speaker 2: was an ultra secret cabal that was representative of the
[21:29] Speaker 2: twelve Disciples of Jesus Christ.
[21:31] Speaker 3: I'm part of it, you know.
[21:33] Speaker 2: It has number seven. The young Attorney was key to
[21:35] Speaker 2: the group's future, since one day she would have twins,
[21:39] Speaker 2: and not just any old twins, Elizabeth. One of her
[21:41] Speaker 2: children would usher in the apocalypse. Oh fun, you probably
[21:46] Speaker 2: guessed it. One of her twins would be the newly
[21:48] Speaker 2: returned Savior, the prophesied Messiah come back to Earth to
[21:52] Speaker 2: do battle against the Antichrist. Just come to earth, depending
[21:55] Speaker 2: on how you view the whole story. Sure, now, that
[21:58] Speaker 2: must have been a lot to hear from this poor woman.
[22:00] Speaker 2: I mean, one day you're rubbing an egg on your
[22:02] Speaker 2: naked body, trying to lift a curse, get free of
[22:04] Speaker 2: your ninety nine demons. The next day you find out
[22:06] Speaker 2: you're gonna be mother to Jesus two point zero. Yeah,
[22:08] Speaker 2: that's heavy, right. Also, imagine just the the poor other twin,
[22:11] Speaker 2: who isn't Jesus the return like that kid? Yes, and
[22:18] Speaker 2: I'm jeff this is my son Jesus Junior, my other boy. Hi,
[22:21] Speaker 2: I'm Jeff, I'm Chef. So yeah, you got like this
[22:24] Speaker 2: one's like, is the twins special at all? It also
[22:28] Speaker 2: is it identical twins? Like you look like Jesus, but
[22:30] Speaker 2: you've got none of the powers.
[22:32] Speaker 3: Well then you're like go around pretending you're Jesus.
[22:36] Speaker 2: Or is it like that they're paternal twins but they
[22:37] Speaker 2: don't look alike and you're like, oh, yeah, god's his father.
[22:40] Speaker 2: My dad's Greg, you know.
[22:42] Speaker 3: Like praternal twins and he's you know.
[22:48] Speaker 2: You imagine your twin brothers performing miracles, life of the party,
[22:51] Speaker 2: this one.
[22:52] Speaker 3: Walking on the water.
[22:52] Speaker 2: Everybody loves them, and you're like, oh, I'm a shepherd.
[22:55] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, but maybe he excels an other thing.
[22:58] Speaker 2: This is true. Maybe you're right, I shouldn't.
[22:59] Speaker 4: It's like Jeff is a master of the harpsichord and
[23:04] Speaker 4: like his tunes just you know, unite.
[23:06] Speaker 2: The world totally. They make the heavens come alive here
[23:10] Speaker 2: on earth. Music, Well mind, psyche Gina remarks. She convinces
[23:15] Speaker 2: his young attorney that she's going to be the new Mary,
[23:17] Speaker 2: the mother of the next Jesus. But at this point
[23:20] Speaker 2: the attorney is like, Okay, I'm starting to have some doubts.
[23:24] Speaker 2: So eventually the deaths blossom into rational thoughts and this
[23:27] Speaker 2: is when she hires Bob Niguard to come and get
[23:30] Speaker 2: her money back. So now he's got two clients trying
[23:34] Speaker 2: to get him to track down the same scammer. Bob
[23:37] Speaker 2: takes a trip to find the childhood maid who first
[23:39] Speaker 2: placed the curse, and would you believe it, he found
[23:41] Speaker 2: her because the psychic told the attorney that her Haitian
[23:44] Speaker 2: maid was dead, and turns out she was very much
[23:46] Speaker 2: still on this side of the grass, and Niguard spoke
[23:49] Speaker 2: with her. Not only that, he filmed the conversation, brought
[23:52] Speaker 2: it back and he played it for the young attorney
[23:54] Speaker 2: so she could like believe everything she sees.
[23:56] Speaker 4: Right, this giant mosquitos exactly, I want this pictures, pictures.
[24:02] Speaker 2: It didn't happen. So that is what she now. She
[24:05] Speaker 2: faces the truth, right, she's she's been conned. There's no
[24:07] Speaker 2: doubt about it. And here's what I haven't told you yet.
[24:10] Speaker 2: There was way more than the naked egg rubbing. And
[24:12] Speaker 2: then she was tricked into doing to lift this curse.
[24:15] Speaker 2: As Bob Nigart learned in his investigation. By the way,
[24:19] Speaker 2: so the young attorney had to keep a spit jar
[24:22] Speaker 2: under her bed. She had to spit in it all
[24:24] Speaker 2: the time, and it was covered in a black pillow case.
[24:26] Speaker 2: And this was to ward off evil spirits.
[24:28] Speaker 6: Right.
[24:29] Speaker 2: She also was only.
[24:29] Speaker 3: Supposed to eat red potential suitors.
[24:33] Speaker 2: Friends, suitors, roommates. She was also only supposed to eat
[24:36] Speaker 2: red fruits. Okay, I don't know, but for whatever reason,
[24:40] Speaker 2: but it's supposed to be symbolic of blood. Sure, I
[24:42] Speaker 2: don't know if she was like only eating red fruits,
[24:44] Speaker 2: like she wasn't eating bread, but that's what I read.
[24:47] Speaker 4: I could do only red fruits of the fruit that
[24:49] Speaker 4: I would eat.
[24:50] Speaker 2: If the flesh was red. But like what if they're.
[24:52] Speaker 4: Like, yeah, so, like really good strawberries and aren't white
[24:54] Speaker 4: in the center.
[24:56] Speaker 2: You know, or pomegranate, dragonfruit, yeah, watermes start fruit, one
[25:01] Speaker 2: of those.
[25:01] Speaker 4: Ones red, a deep red watermelon.
[25:03] Speaker 2: That'd be good.
[25:04] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[25:05] Speaker 2: So, But beyond the fruits and the spit jar, she
[25:08] Speaker 2: was all supposed to give her psychic tissue and bodily
[25:11] Speaker 2: fluid samples such as hair clippings. You're in samples, So
[25:15] Speaker 2: right there, I'm gonna have my dots. If you're exactly
[25:19] Speaker 2: if you're psychic asking for a poop sample, I'm like, okay,
[25:22] Speaker 2: wait a minute. Also, she gave the young attorney some
[25:25] Speaker 2: old tricks, the kind you might give to a high
[25:26] Speaker 2: school wrestler who's trying to cut weight before a big match. Yeah.
[25:29] Speaker 2: She told her to rub a special gel all over
[25:31] Speaker 2: her naked body. I guess this is after the eggs
[25:35] Speaker 2: a lot of naked body, and then wrap herself in
[25:36] Speaker 2: a clear plastic cling wrap, like like sand wrap. Yeah,
[25:40] Speaker 2: and then go jogging for six miles with no imagin're
[25:44] Speaker 2: supposed to put on like a tracksuit or slats. I
[25:47] Speaker 2: guess the idea is that demons are much like me.
[25:50] Speaker 2: They don't like to jog, and you're gonna get rid
[25:52] Speaker 2: of demons if you jogging. So the psychic Geena remarks
[25:55] Speaker 2: a right, she goes for broke. She tells the attorney
[25:57] Speaker 2: to at one point to lie down on her floor
[25:59] Speaker 2: like she's on an imaginary crucifix, and to recite prayers
[26:03] Speaker 2: to prepare herself as preparation to be the mother of
[26:05] Speaker 2: Jesus two point zero. And lastly, she told her, you
[26:08] Speaker 2: need to stop taking birth control girl, because you need
[26:10] Speaker 2: to get pregnant for the law, and so, you know,
[26:13] Speaker 2: because you're going to bring back the Princess Peace. I
[26:15] Speaker 2: don't think so. No, yeah, no, she's gonna have to
[26:18] Speaker 2: go find like she's got God. You know, he's you know,
[26:21] Speaker 2: she's a husband per se in this case, you know,
[26:24] Speaker 2: it's gonna the holy Holy Inseminator. So after she'd been
[26:28] Speaker 2: through all this and thoroughly fleeced as I said, she
[26:30] Speaker 2: turns to Bob Niguard, right, psychic detective who's already working
[26:34] Speaker 2: the same perp for a different client, so now he's
[26:35] Speaker 2: working them both. Takes four years of investigating, four years. Yes,
[26:40] Speaker 2: he turns over his evidence, sixty five thousand dollars worth
[26:42] Speaker 2: of fraud that he can track down, and he gives
[26:44] Speaker 2: him to the Briard County DA to pursue. They pursue
[26:47] Speaker 2: with charges. Then Geinaber remarks, goes on the run, and
[26:50] Speaker 2: the rest warrants issue. The psychic pulls a new magic trick.
[26:53] Speaker 2: She disappears. Yeah, she's now wanted, by the way, in
[26:56] Speaker 2: multiple states. She's faced justice in other states prior to this.
[26:59] Speaker 2: I'm just leaving out for the cleanliness of the story,
[27:03] Speaker 2: but Bob Niguard, psychic detective, is the one who brings
[27:06] Speaker 2: her to justice. The PI was there when she was
[27:08] Speaker 2: finally caught it, so he put it attractor to New York,
[27:11] Speaker 2: tractor to Phoenix, tractor to King's Beach, California. He's bouncing
[27:15] Speaker 2: around the map, right, and then finally he caught up
[27:17] Speaker 2: to her again in Florida. Though. But rather than me
[27:20] Speaker 2: tell you about it, Elizabeth, close your eyes and I'd
[27:24] Speaker 2: like you to picture it. Lizlie, It's twenty seventeen and
[27:28] Speaker 2: you are presently at the Miami International Airport. You are
[27:32] Speaker 2: seated at the gate waiting to board a flight to Barcelona, Spain.
[27:36] Speaker 2: You've been there before, had a beautiful time, and you've
[27:38] Speaker 2: been looking forward to going back. You've been invited to
[27:41] Speaker 2: travel to Barcelona to take part in a book festival.
[27:43] Speaker 2: A novel you wrote has been translated into Spanish and
[27:46] Speaker 2: become a bestseller in a second language. The whole thing
[27:49] Speaker 2: amuses you. Never did you think any of this would
[27:51] Speaker 2: happen when you wrote your novel about dog trainers in
[27:54] Speaker 2: the San Diego area and your journey to become a
[27:56] Speaker 2: stripper who doesn't take off any of her clothes. It's
[27:58] Speaker 2: a comical novel with the tie at sloths. We wear
[28:01] Speaker 2: robes anyway. At the moment, you're waiting for your flight,
[28:05] Speaker 2: as you eavesdrop on the folks seated near you, a
[28:07] Speaker 2: writer's habit, if ever there was one. As you scan
[28:10] Speaker 2: the crowd, you hear an announcement over the pa your
[28:12] Speaker 2: flight will begin boarding, sir. Then you see it, a
[28:16] Speaker 2: man in a snap brim fedora staring at you. He
[28:19] Speaker 2: looks like a noir detective who stepped right off the
[28:21] Speaker 2: pages of a Sam Spade mystery book. As you check him,
[28:25] Speaker 2: you get the feeling he's maybe not staring at you.
[28:28] Speaker 2: You casually turn and see these looking past you at
[28:32] Speaker 2: a woman who's also wearing a fedora. Interesting, you think,
[28:35] Speaker 2: you wonder if they know each other. Maybe they're both detectives.
[28:37] Speaker 2: There's a man with her. He looks to be her husband,
[28:40] Speaker 2: based on how they're somewhat short with each other. They
[28:42] Speaker 2: look nervous, a little worried. Maybe the noir detective is
[28:46] Speaker 2: clocking their every move. Then it hits you, oh, he's
[28:49] Speaker 2: a cop or a PI. He's clearly watching them. Then
[28:52] Speaker 2: you remember where you saw him and that same woman before.
[28:56] Speaker 2: It was at the TSA security line. They were in
[28:58] Speaker 2: line near you. The husband and wife were fighting then too.
[29:01] Speaker 2: The airline staff is getting ready at the gate. Now
[29:04] Speaker 2: they're almost ready to start boarding the plane. You watch
[29:06] Speaker 2: the man and the snap brim fedora as he checks
[29:08] Speaker 2: his watch. Then he cranes his neck to see if
[29:11] Speaker 2: anyone is approaching. At least that's what it looks like.
[29:14] Speaker 2: Then you spotted what the man in the fedora must
[29:16] Speaker 2: have been looking for. Two Miami Dade Sheriff's deputies emerge
[29:20] Speaker 2: from the crowd. They're headed right for your gate. Oh
[29:24] Speaker 2: it's about to get good, you think to yourself. He
[29:26] Speaker 2: watched the two deputies. They walk right up to the
[29:28] Speaker 2: woman in the white fedora and her husband. She looks
[29:31] Speaker 2: up at them, and you listen intently. As the deputies
[29:34] Speaker 2: introduce themselves. They asked the woman to stand up. You
[29:38] Speaker 2: turn to see the man in the snap brim fedora
[29:41] Speaker 2: practically leap out of his seat. He walks over to
[29:43] Speaker 2: the deputies. He reaches them just as one of the
[29:46] Speaker 2: deputies says to the woman, we have a warrant for
[29:48] Speaker 2: your arrest. You need to come with us. The look
[29:51] Speaker 2: on her face is priceless. The man in the snap.
[29:54] Speaker 2: Brim Fedora introduces himself to the deputies as Bob Nygard,
[29:57] Speaker 2: psychic detective. It was him who called them to report her,
[30:00] Speaker 2: he says. The deputies thank them for his service. Then
[30:03] Speaker 2: you hear Bob say, you see that total look of
[30:06] Speaker 2: shock on her face. That's the look of justice. So
[30:10] Speaker 2: there you go what it feels like when Bob Nyguard
[30:12] Speaker 2: gets justice. Now, I think my man Samsbay would have
[30:15] Speaker 2: been a little had a snappier line. Perhaps it probably
[30:17] Speaker 2: been like she'd the look of a girl who someone
[30:20] Speaker 2: just stole her birthday cake right out of her hands,
[30:22] Speaker 2: And I was that jerk right now. Jeana Marimarks had
[30:26] Speaker 2: been caught by Bob Nyguard for a third time. At
[30:29] Speaker 2: this point, she was tried, sentenced, and convicted to six
[30:31] Speaker 2: years in prison. Trying to catch her over and over again.
[30:36] Speaker 2: He's finally this is the time, bit center, Yeah, this
[30:39] Speaker 2: is literally he gets his first case and then is
[30:42] Speaker 2: his repeater.
[30:43] Speaker 6: Yah.
[30:44] Speaker 2: Now, if you're wondering, it's not always easy to get
[30:46] Speaker 2: justice for the vics of these fraudulent fortune tellers, because one,
[30:50] Speaker 2: there aren't many laws to apply in the state of
[30:53] Speaker 2: New York. There is an old law that makes prognostication
[30:56] Speaker 2: and sooth's saying a misdemeanor, but it's like a five
[30:59] Speaker 2: hundred dollars fine, maybe three months in jail if the
[31:01] Speaker 2: judge wants to be a hard ass. But if the
[31:03] Speaker 2: psychic milks the victim for enough money, they can cross
[31:06] Speaker 2: over into grand theft or possible larceny. And if that happens,
[31:09] Speaker 2: then a fortune teller can catch real time like up
[31:11] Speaker 2: to twenty five years in the state pen if a
[31:12] Speaker 2: judge really wants to throw the book at him.
[31:14] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[31:14] Speaker 2: Now, but this is always once again, if the DA
[31:16] Speaker 2: even wants to pursue the case to get it before
[31:19] Speaker 2: the judge, which they often don't because you don't make
[31:21] Speaker 2: many political points or smart headlines for busting a psychic.
[31:24] Speaker 5: Right.
[31:24] Speaker 2: In fact, he can actually look silly and trivial. Yeah, So,
[31:27] Speaker 2: as Bob Niguard would point out to the folks at
[31:29] Speaker 2: the DA's office that quote, the women who are part
[31:32] Speaker 2: of these criminal enterprises commit fortune telling, fraud, sweetheart swindles, shoplifting,
[31:36] Speaker 2: an insurance fraud. It's organized crime and usually a family affair.
[31:41] Speaker 2: So he's trying to make it like it's like I'm
[31:43] Speaker 2: like mob families organized crime. It's a family affair. I'm like,
[31:46] Speaker 2: do they have omerica? And is there a code of silence?
[31:49] Speaker 3: Yeah?
[31:49] Speaker 2: So the FBI has come to Bob Nayguard and ask
[31:52] Speaker 2: for his help when they're dealing with psychics. Oh wow,
[31:54] Speaker 2: Oh yeah. And he's also told them no, just flat
[31:58] Speaker 2: out to their face, like I ain't helping you some
[32:00] Speaker 2: like former city cop beef with the FEDS who like
[32:02] Speaker 2: love to take a collar from a good cop. No,
[32:05] Speaker 2: it's not that, it's just a principled refusal. Bob Nigard
[32:08] Speaker 2: told the FBI that the bureau was missing the bigger
[32:11] Speaker 2: point and he wouldn't work with them untill they understood it. Essentially,
[32:14] Speaker 2: he cautioned the g men and I quote, I don't
[32:16] Speaker 2: know if psychic powers exist. I told the FBI that
[32:18] Speaker 2: they are approaching the problem the wrong way. What's at
[32:21] Speaker 2: the heart of psychic fraud theft, larceny fraud. He's like
[32:26] Speaker 2: a real cop cop, so Bob reframed for the FBI
[32:29] Speaker 2: how fortune tellers can be seen as real criminals and
[32:32] Speaker 2: not as these like harmless for really, you know, milking
[32:35] Speaker 2: the rubes for a quick, harmless hey day. Yeah, so
[32:38] Speaker 2: Bob told the FBI. Quote the psychic forces someone to
[32:41] Speaker 2: buy a very expensive watch to quote turn back the
[32:44] Speaker 2: hands of time, and promises destroy the watch with a
[32:47] Speaker 2: hammer or throw it into the ocean. And in fact
[32:49] Speaker 2: neither destroys the watch or throws it into the ocean.
[32:52] Speaker 2: There's no crime. But if that psychic takes the watch
[32:54] Speaker 2: to a pawnshop and gets cash for it, that's fraud.
[32:57] Speaker 2: That's theft. Boom. So he's like trying to go like,
[33:01] Speaker 2: here's the parameters for the crime. You know, there are
[33:03] Speaker 2: specific components. But once you cross lines, Yeah, nail on
[33:07] Speaker 2: with real, real charges.
[33:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, that'll stick.
[33:10] Speaker 2: Boom. Over his first forty cases, he brought enough evidence
[33:14] Speaker 2: that led to the prosecution of twenty five different charlatans
[33:17] Speaker 2: and phony fortune tellers.
[33:19] Speaker 3: Nice.
[33:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, Bob was able to recover three million dollars over
[33:22] Speaker 2: the first forty case. He's still working, he's still doing
[33:24] Speaker 2: his thing. Yeah, he's a psychic detective. You don't want
[33:26] Speaker 2: to mess with. Shut your mouth. I'm just talking about Bob.
[33:31] Speaker 4: When you every time you say Bob Niguard, I keep
[33:33] Speaker 4: thinking of doctor Richard Niguard.
[33:35] Speaker 3: This interest parks and rec.
[33:38] Speaker 2: Uh huh is it crossing like wires in your head.
[33:41] Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, well, Elizabeth, let's take another little break
[33:44] Speaker 2: and after these messages to see if you can guess
[33:46] Speaker 2: the next client I'll tell you about from the Bob
[33:48] Speaker 2: Niguard casebook. I'll give you a hint. It's a cosmic
[33:51] Speaker 2: con job, like literally cosmic, as in from space.
[33:55] Speaker 7: Oh, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, we're back.
[34:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, we're you.
[34:19] Speaker 2: Ready to hear it? From the another case from the
[34:21] Speaker 2: Bob Nygard casebook, zaren am, I give you the phony
[34:26] Speaker 2: Stolen Meteorite Caper?
[34:28] Speaker 3: Oh? I like this right?
[34:29] Speaker 2: Okay again. This story starts with a woman having a
[34:31] Speaker 2: bad one psychic spots her sees dollar signs in her suffering.
[34:36] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[34:36] Speaker 2: In this case, the young woman a thirty something with
[34:38] Speaker 2: a master's degree, but who'd recently gone through a bad breakup.
[34:41] Speaker 2: Now she was living alone in New York, babbling persistent depression.
[34:45] Speaker 2: One night, she manages to get herself out of the
[34:47] Speaker 2: house to go see a friend for dinner. She's like
[34:49] Speaker 2: at seventy seventh Street on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
[34:52] Speaker 2: She stepped off the curb and nearly walks into this
[34:55] Speaker 2: other woman who's like bustling by a very strange woman
[34:58] Speaker 2: died bad die job. Her name is Velvet, Elizabeth. Guess what?
[35:02] Speaker 2: Velvet was a psychic?
[35:04] Speaker 3: Oh really?
[35:04] Speaker 2: And and she could see in this young woman's eyes that,
[35:07] Speaker 2: as she said, right there in the street after bumping
[35:09] Speaker 2: into her, there's something wrong with you. I see darkness
[35:12] Speaker 2: surrounding you. So the young woman paused. She listened to
[35:15] Speaker 2: the stranger's warning of ominous portent. But then the psychic
[35:19] Speaker 2: told her that she could save the young woman. She
[35:22] Speaker 2: could fix the dark aura all around you. She promised,
[35:25] Speaker 2: we can help. Now. She hands the young woman a flyer,
[35:31] Speaker 2: and being a New Yorker, the young woman had been
[35:33] Speaker 2: handed many flyers and felt the scam energy coming. But
[35:36] Speaker 2: she took the flyer anyway and pretend promised I might
[35:40] Speaker 2: stop by, thanks, And then she had rushed off to
[35:42] Speaker 2: meet her friend for dinner. Now, all during the meal,
[35:45] Speaker 2: the words there's something wrong with you, a dark aura
[35:48] Speaker 2: kept repeating in her mind. Right, there's something wrong with you.
[35:52] Speaker 2: We can't help. Guess what happens next, Elizabeth, She you
[35:56] Speaker 2: must be psychic, that's right, I am. She fished the
[36:00] Speaker 2: flyer out of her purse, and she makes up her
[36:02] Speaker 2: mind to go see Velvet with the bad hair ed eye.
[36:05] Speaker 2: When she went to the fortune teller spot, she gets
[36:07] Speaker 2: introduced to the big boss, Lady Betty Vlado. Now what
[36:10] Speaker 2: happens next would result in the sixth case from the
[36:13] Speaker 2: files of Bob Niguard, the Phony Stolen Meteorite Caper. The
[36:18] Speaker 2: year was twenty thirteen. When the young woman contacted the
[36:20] Speaker 2: psychic detective. She looked online for help after being scammed.
[36:24] Speaker 2: One name kept popping up, Bob Niguard. You need Bob Niguard.
[36:28] Speaker 2: By the time she hired him, she was already down
[36:30] Speaker 2: fifty grand to Betty Vlado and Velvet. Remember what Bob
[36:34] Speaker 2: said about a psychic making you buy watches, Yeah, this
[36:38] Speaker 2: is the case where that comes from.
[36:39] Speaker 3: Oh okay.
[36:40] Speaker 2: The idea was that the psychic would use watches to
[36:43] Speaker 2: turn back time. Yeah, like just like like yeah, if
[36:48] Speaker 2: I could turn back task.
[36:50] Speaker 3: So like literally their analog watches.
[36:53] Speaker 2: Yes, they're going to turn They're gonna wind the time backwards.
[36:57] Speaker 3: You know what. Curse me, curse you.
[36:59] Speaker 2: So that was the deal. The young one was supposed
[37:01] Speaker 2: to buy not one, but two Rolexes.
[37:06] Speaker 4: That's the you know, because you need the smooth second hand.
[37:11] Speaker 2: Demons appreciate the smooth secondhand motion. They get yess exactly,
[37:15] Speaker 2: they're terrified, but it doesn't click, like, how is this magic.
[37:17] Speaker 3: Happening only from a rollie? That's all you can do.
[37:22] Speaker 2: The time pieces were going to be purified, of course,
[37:25] Speaker 2: through prayer, chanting, ritual baths. And then also, yeah, exactly,
[37:31] Speaker 2: well you since you were kind of, you know, like
[37:33] Speaker 2: joking earlier about the demons appreciating the smooth second hand
[37:37] Speaker 2: It's apparently Betty Volado told her that quote, cheap materials
[37:40] Speaker 2: would lead to cheap results. You try to get the best,
[37:45] Speaker 2: you know you do. So the plan wasn'ts like it
[37:47] Speaker 2: would take the two rolexes up to a sacred lake
[37:49] Speaker 2: in Pennsylvania. There she would perform a ceremony to turn
[37:54] Speaker 2: back time, and she would dunk the Rolexes in the
[37:57] Speaker 2: sacred lake, and then that would break the curse. I
[37:59] Speaker 2: think she said she'd like toss him into him, like
[38:01] Speaker 2: you know, the sword and like throwing it into.
[38:03] Speaker 3: The No, no, she's like, I threw him in there
[38:07] Speaker 3: there in the center of the lake.
[38:08] Speaker 2: Wank wank center. So when that failed to fully remove
[38:12] Speaker 2: the curse, Betty Volado said, don't you worry girl. She
[38:14] Speaker 2: had a new ritual ready to clear up any residual
[38:17] Speaker 2: demon presence in her. She told the woman she needed
[38:20] Speaker 2: a space rock. Oh, but not just any old moon rock.
[38:23] Speaker 2: I mean, anyone get a moon rock, steal those anyway. No,
[38:26] Speaker 2: she need to get her hands on a meteorite. That
[38:28] Speaker 2: would do the trick. And when you know what, the
[38:30] Speaker 2: psychic had a line on a meteorite for us. It's easy, Yeah,
[38:33] Speaker 2: she was. It was hot, it was stolen. It was
[38:35] Speaker 2: a hot rock. The meteorite was stolen from NASA by
[38:38] Speaker 2: someone in Betty Volado's social circle. She knew an insider
[38:41] Speaker 2: at NASA. Hey, I know a guy I got no guy,
[38:44] Speaker 2: get you, Yeah, I do. I bet I got it
[38:47] Speaker 2: from like a jeweler.
[38:48] Speaker 3: So it's a little bit different.
[38:50] Speaker 2: Anyway. The cost for this hot rock was fourteen five
[38:53] Speaker 2: hundred dollars day. Yeah. When the young woman scoffed at
[38:56] Speaker 2: the stolen meteorite, Betty Volado calmed any concern she may have.
[39:00] Speaker 2: How did she do that? Great question, Elizabeth? With the
[39:03] Speaker 2: combined power of Oprah Winfrey and Donald Trump, the fortune
[39:09] Speaker 2: teller said it was well known amongst those in the
[39:12] Speaker 2: know that both Trump and Oprah credit their phenomenal success
[39:16] Speaker 2: to quote meteorites.
[39:18] Speaker 3: Oh yeah, totally.
[39:20] Speaker 2: I don't know if they ward off evil spirits or
[39:22] Speaker 2: they means whatever it was. I couldn't find the answer
[39:26] Speaker 2: for Elizabeth, but the rationale is something that the young
[39:29] Speaker 2: woman went for. She's like, totally, I need a meteor
[39:32] Speaker 2: so media Metia Rachel good enough for Gail's best friend
[39:37] Speaker 2: or good enough for her. So she bought the fourteen
[39:39] Speaker 2: thousand dollars hot rock from NASA from her psychic and
[39:42] Speaker 2: get this, Elizabeth, there was no change in her depression.
[39:45] Speaker 2: Oh yeah, the demons, the curse, it all held strong.
[39:49] Speaker 2: Finally she becomes skeptical. She had her meteorite evaluated and
[39:54] Speaker 2: a gemologist told her it was actually a chunk of
[39:56] Speaker 2: quartz crystal oh mys and price tag about three hundred
[40:00] Speaker 2: and fifty dollars.
[40:01] Speaker 3: Wow.
[40:02] Speaker 2: Paid fourteen five hundred for it.
[40:04] Speaker 3: Wow.
[40:04] Speaker 2: So after Bob Niguard handed evidence over to the DA
[40:07] Speaker 2: in this case enough for them to prosecute Betty Vlado,
[40:10] Speaker 2: as a reward, the young woman gave him the phony meteorite.
[40:13] Speaker 2: It's a keepsake from the case. So if you go
[40:16] Speaker 2: and you see Bob and you go to his living room.
[40:17] Speaker 2: There you will see the conversation starter out just on display,
[40:21] Speaker 2: a trophy from his times in the streets, the reminder
[40:24] Speaker 2: of justice delivered.
[40:25] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[40:26] Speaker 2: Now, if you're wondering, the big Boss psychic Lady Betty
[40:28] Speaker 2: Vlado was tried, convicted, and sentenced to one to three
[40:31] Speaker 2: years in prison. She did one full year behind bars. Now,
[40:34] Speaker 2: next up we have the Peaches Stephens affair.
[40:36] Speaker 3: Peaches Stephen's affair.
[40:38] Speaker 2: Right like this, So Bob Niguard rumpled p I would
[40:42] Speaker 2: put it. Quote, Yes, Peaches Stevens. She was out of
[40:45] Speaker 2: the New Orlando area. She ripped off my client. I
[40:48] Speaker 2: got involved in the case and it went to the
[40:49] Speaker 2: Orlando State Attorney's office, but they wouldn't even return our
[40:52] Speaker 2: phone calls. They even kicked her out of the office.
[40:55] Speaker 2: I wanted to help this woman, but I had no
[40:56] Speaker 2: idea how I was going to because the Orlando State
[40:59] Speaker 2: at Turnerney's office wouldn't prosecute the case. I was at
[41:02] Speaker 2: my wits end. So what does Bob do to get justice? Elizabeth?
[41:07] Speaker 2: Back to Niguard. My phone rings and that's a producer
[41:10] Speaker 2: from the Anderson Cooper Show. They read about me and
[41:13] Speaker 2: wanted to know if there were any cases I wanted
[41:15] Speaker 2: to publicize. I told my client, if we're gonna have
[41:18] Speaker 2: any shot, it's gotta be going on the show. Yeah. So,
[41:22] Speaker 2: not only that, he has a very specific plan to
[41:24] Speaker 2: get the attention of the State's Attorney's office, as Bob
[41:27] Speaker 2: puts it, So I said to the producer, I'll let
[41:30] Speaker 2: my client go on the show, but only on one condition.
[41:33] Speaker 2: If Anderson promises he'll let her take the microphone and
[41:36] Speaker 2: blast the Orlando State Attorney's Office for not doing their job. Now, Elizabeth,
[41:41] Speaker 2: as you know, the producers love that kind of conflict.
[41:44] Speaker 2: They booked his client and she did indeed blast the
[41:47] Speaker 2: State Attorney's office. Back to Bob. Within a few days
[41:50] Speaker 2: of that airing, the psychic was under arrest, and it
[41:52] Speaker 2: wasn't long after that that my client had her one
[41:55] Speaker 2: hundred and thirty six thousand dollars back. This is what
[41:58] Speaker 2: we call a happy ending now, believe it or not,
[42:00] Speaker 2: That's only part of his legal fights against the psychic,
[42:03] Speaker 2: Peaches stevens Oh Now, just like Gena Marie Marks, Bob
[42:07] Speaker 2: Nyguard was called out by multiple former clients to get justice.
[42:10] Speaker 4: That's so crazy when he has all these people complaining
[42:13] Speaker 4: about the same person.
[42:15] Speaker 2: Is it Peacha Stevens. So Peaches Stevens was a classic
[42:19] Speaker 2: street level con artist. She could read people with just
[42:21] Speaker 2: the look. When she saw a young woman walking in Manhattan,
[42:24] Speaker 2: Peaches approached the thirty one year old woman and said
[42:26] Speaker 2: to her, I am a psychic, and I see spirits
[42:28] Speaker 2: swirling around you that must dwell inside your body. Oh
[42:31] Speaker 2: it sounds like sound familiar. The young New Yorker was
[42:34] Speaker 2: taken aback. But it was New York and people said
[42:36] Speaker 2: weird stuff to other people all the time, and they're
[42:38] Speaker 2: always looking to work some angle, a con whatever. So
[42:41] Speaker 2: but the psychic was persistent, persuasive. She even seemed genuinely
[42:45] Speaker 2: worried about the young woman. She said, I see you
[42:48] Speaker 2: have three evil spirits inside of you. Now, technically she
[42:51] Speaker 2: had two adult spirits and one of the spirits was
[42:53] Speaker 2: pregnant with an evil baby spirit two and a half.
[42:56] Speaker 2: So depending on how you count, yeah, when does the
[42:59] Speaker 2: baby spirit become its own spirit? So the young woman
[43:03] Speaker 2: paused to listen to what else Peaches Stevens saw in her.
[43:08] Speaker 2: She had some good news for the young woman. The
[43:10] Speaker 2: Sayakak told her, I see something special in you you
[43:13] Speaker 2: were born under a lucky star. So that's what I
[43:19] Speaker 2: thought too. So the reason why the young woman was
[43:21] Speaker 2: willing to listen was that she'd begun to doubt herself
[43:23] Speaker 2: after a bitter divorce. She also had job stress, She
[43:27] Speaker 2: had a bad ankle from an old injury. This woman
[43:30] Speaker 2: was hobbled in so many ways, right, So I remember
[43:32] Speaker 2: Peaches can read a person. So Peaches convinces the young
[43:35] Speaker 2: woman to come with her to get something to eat
[43:37] Speaker 2: and to talk more. They go to a Chipotle. This right,
[43:43] Speaker 2: it reminded me of you're always like Chipotle is pretty good,
[43:46] Speaker 2: Like I heard that when I was reading it. And
[43:48] Speaker 2: the fast casual Mexican restaurant. The two women continued talking
[43:52] Speaker 2: and they bonded because remember Peaches is pretending that she
[43:54] Speaker 2: cares deeply, and the woman is like, nobody's cared for
[43:56] Speaker 2: me in a long time. I live in the city,
[43:57] Speaker 2: anonymous and alone. So at the end of the meal,
[44:00] Speaker 2: Peaches gives the young woman a flyer for her psychic shop.
[44:03] Speaker 2: He's like, you need to come over, it's right by NYU,
[44:05] Speaker 2: and she's like, okay, I will not. A week later,
[44:07] Speaker 2: the young woman takes the trip over to see Peaches Stevens.
[44:10] Speaker 2: When she's there for her first visit, the psychic tells
[44:13] Speaker 2: her that she can sense what's wrong, right, what it
[44:15] Speaker 2: all stems from. It's the young woman's stepmother's fault. She said, yes,
[44:19] Speaker 2: oh my god, yes, she placed a curse on you. Yes,
[44:22] Speaker 2: because you know the old adage Elizabeth went in doubt
[44:25] Speaker 2: blame a woman in America. I mean, it's just anyway,
[44:28] Speaker 2: some time passes, the two get to work to undo
[44:30] Speaker 2: this curse. And you know what that means? Strip down,
[44:33] Speaker 2: rub an egg all over yo body. I don't know.
[44:37] Speaker 4: And I still if I went to someone they said
[44:39] Speaker 4: there's a curse on you, I'd be all right.
[44:40] Speaker 3: So what are we going to do to curse this person?
[44:42] Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, get aggressive, move the curse like no, I
[44:44] Speaker 4: want a more powerful.
[44:45] Speaker 2: Throw the curse on them, multiple curses, the curses of
[44:49] Speaker 2: a thousand years.
[44:50] Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly, get me a crone curse, do this.
[44:52] Speaker 2: I want one that lasts for like her grandchildren. So
[44:55] Speaker 2: in this case, Peaches did the egg rubbing herself. Peaches
[44:58] Speaker 2: rub the egg, honored this woman's head to all over
[45:01] Speaker 2: her body to gather her energy. And then same thing,
[45:04] Speaker 2: she cracked the egg. You wanted to guess what came
[45:05] Speaker 2: out this time?
[45:06] Speaker 4: Spider?
[45:07] Speaker 2: No, live black spider. Nope, it was a dead baby snake.
[45:13] Speaker 2: This is dead baby snake. So Peaches had the yeah,
[45:18] Speaker 2: I know right. I was like, I didn't want to
[45:20] Speaker 2: tell you, but I had had to just for the variety.
[45:22] Speaker 2: So Peaches then add the young woman brought it to
[45:26] Speaker 2: I don't know, Yeah, she've had had one. Sometimes she's
[45:28] Speaker 2: got a market because people know how to get meteorites,
[45:30] Speaker 2: dead baby snakes. They got a whole black market. We
[45:33] Speaker 2: don't know about Elizabeth. So the young woman at this
[45:35] Speaker 2: point is told by Peaches to spit into a jar, like,
[45:37] Speaker 2: did you bring your spit jar? No, here, spit, I've
[45:40] Speaker 2: got a jar you can spit into. So, just like
[45:42] Speaker 2: with Gina Mariemarks, she goes and she has a woman's spit,
[45:45] Speaker 2: but in this case we know exactly the process. She
[45:47] Speaker 2: had her spit into clean water that's in this jar.
[45:50] Speaker 2: And when as soon as this woman spit hit the water,
[45:52] Speaker 2: apparently it thickened into this mass and it turned into
[45:56] Speaker 2: like a bloodlike blobby mass. I don't know how she
[45:59] Speaker 2: did this, but apparently like changed colors and consistency and
[46:03] Speaker 2: turned into like a gross mass. And then the Peaches
[46:06] Speaker 2: gasp and said it's proof of the curs.
[46:08] Speaker 6: Right.
[46:08] Speaker 2: So then luckily Peach is new just what to do.
[46:10] Speaker 4: Though, she is just like buying out all of the
[46:13] Speaker 4: magic shop stuff.
[46:15] Speaker 3: Yes, exactly, just mix it up.
[46:17] Speaker 2: Got a couple of amateurs, a couple like dragon candles.
[46:20] Speaker 2: So she tells her, you know, do you have fourteen
[46:22] Speaker 2: thousand dollars? Apparently this is the number, so it's a
[46:25] Speaker 2: very specific amount. These uh, these spirit workers like they
[46:28] Speaker 2: have very specific amounts the spirit world requires them to receive.
[46:32] Speaker 2: This help is that we need exactly. Also, it kind
[46:36] Speaker 2: of reminds me. Do you hear the old George Carlin
[46:38] Speaker 2: bit where he's like talking about God needs money?
[46:41] Speaker 3: Right?
[46:41] Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, God loves you and he needs money. He
[46:45] Speaker 6: always needs money. He's all powerful, all perfect, all knowing
[46:49] Speaker 6: and all wise. Somehow just can't handle money.
[46:53] Speaker 2: So anyway, apparently the whole spiritual world is like that,
[46:56] Speaker 2: because demons also need money. Sure, yeah, everybody needs but
[47:00] Speaker 2: you know, anyway, the young woman does as she's told,
[47:02] Speaker 2: she gets money, and the money she's gathered it wasn't enough.
[47:05] Speaker 2: Peach is like, I know, you can do better. Than this.
[47:08] Speaker 2: So eventually the young woman wires Peaches ten large. Peach
[47:11] Speaker 2: is like this is a start. Then she's like, well,
[47:13] Speaker 2: what did you need more? And we're almost four more grand.
[47:16] Speaker 2: So then Peaches gets her to send her twenty one
[47:19] Speaker 2: and twenty five dollars in gift cards to sax fifth
[47:22] Speaker 2: Avenue and one for Bloomingdale's. Demons like the shop girl.
[47:25] Speaker 2: Don't don't you judgmental? They like they like a good
[47:27] Speaker 2: clean fit, They like expensive fashions. Demons are repulsed by non.
[47:32] Speaker 3: Luxury goods, a little demonic.
[47:34] Speaker 2: I remember, better materials, better results, you can pay for exactly,
[47:38] Speaker 2: you know. So the demons they also wanted a Cardia watch,
[47:41] Speaker 2: so the young woman thought it seven nine dollars Cardier
[47:44] Speaker 2: watch for Peaches and the spiritual battles. I guess the
[47:47] Speaker 2: demons were scared off by the diamond encrusted bezels because
[47:50] Speaker 2: in the smooth motion. Because eventually, after four years of fighting,
[47:55] Speaker 2: the demons were still inhabiting her soul. They had released
[47:58] Speaker 2: some of their grip, but you shoot not free of
[48:00] Speaker 2: the curse. The young woman tabulated all the money she'd
[48:02] Speaker 2: given to Peaches over their time together. It was thirty
[48:05] Speaker 2: two large. Goodness by this time was twenty fourteen. So
[48:08] Speaker 2: she tries to contact Peaches and she's like the numbers disconnected.
[48:12] Speaker 2: The next year, the young woman searches for help online.
[48:14] Speaker 2: Whose name does she find. Yeah, Bob Niguard, psychic detective.
[48:18] Speaker 2: I love him now, as a young woman recalled, I
[48:21] Speaker 2: was determined to get justice. Bob Niguard gave me instant
[48:24] Speaker 2: relief because I stopped feeling so helpless, and he did
[48:27] Speaker 2: not pass judgment on me.
[48:29] Speaker 4: He's like, better than these psychics. You're healing their totally
[48:32] Speaker 4: their psychic needs.
[48:33] Speaker 2: They're actually helping them. Yeah, she's making them feel somewhat
[48:36] Speaker 2: like heard here Ford, Yeah, and then like some justice valid.
[48:40] Speaker 2: He's also like Etceterrin. He's gonna give you the instant relief.
[48:43] Speaker 3: Yes.
[48:44] Speaker 2: So unlike the NYPD whom she had already contacted, Bob
[48:47] Speaker 2: took her case seriously, as she put it, Bob called
[48:50] Speaker 2: me when I got back from the police station, and
[48:52] Speaker 2: he offered to take her case for a percentage of
[48:54] Speaker 2: the recovered fraud. Yeah, they give me a cut of
[48:56] Speaker 2: that thirty two large. And he did as he promised.
[49:01] Speaker 2: Though he's good to his word. Bob worked her case.
[49:03] Speaker 2: He chased leads down rain soaked noir alleys. He haunted
[49:06] Speaker 2: the streets decorated with pools of light cast by lonely
[49:09] Speaker 2: street lamps. He tracked down Peaches Stevens.
[49:12] Speaker 3: Did he play a saxophone?
[49:14] Speaker 2: A lot of sax solos? Finally he located her in Florida,
[49:18] Speaker 2: of all places, gives a bunch of snowbirds. They said
[49:21] Speaker 2: they worked in New York. They go down to Florida.
[49:23] Speaker 2: He followed her and her husband to a Denny's on
[49:26] Speaker 2: Highway US one in a town called Lighthouse Point, and
[49:29] Speaker 2: then he called in for backup. Sounlike the NYPD, the
[49:32] Speaker 2: Florida cops sprang into action. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's
[49:36] Speaker 2: deputies zoomed over to the Dennis. They arrived in time
[49:39] Speaker 2: to catch the psych Just after she finished off to
[49:42] Speaker 2: her Rudy two dy fresh and fruity breakfast, she was
[49:45] Speaker 2: arrested outside of a CVS drug store right next door.
[49:48] Speaker 3: Brands like.
[49:51] Speaker 5: Good.
[49:52] Speaker 2: She gets charged with grand theft because they did what
[49:54] Speaker 2: Bob said. He said, Look, it's a real crime. She
[49:56] Speaker 2: gets charged with grand theft. Her victim, the young woman
[49:59] Speaker 2: she walked away with almost no anger at Peaches Stevens.
[50:02] Speaker 3: Really, I know, right.
[50:04] Speaker 2: Instead, she felt sorry for her. She grasped that Peaches
[50:08] Speaker 2: was the product of a family of criminals, born into
[50:10] Speaker 2: the life, never questioned who or how many people she
[50:13] Speaker 2: was hurting as a young woman. Said I occasionally feel
[50:16] Speaker 2: a mixture of resentment and pity. Peaches was indoctrinated into
[50:19] Speaker 2: her lifestyle as a child and raised to be a
[50:21] Speaker 2: con artist. It's pretty that that's her life, and I
[50:25] Speaker 2: got to hand it to her. I agree with that
[50:28] Speaker 2: Peaches Stevens has only ever really known crime. She was
[50:31] Speaker 2: born into it, and it is It's kind of sad,
[50:33] Speaker 2: you know so, But hold up, this is not where
[50:35] Speaker 2: the story of Bob Niguard is. I have a couple
[50:38] Speaker 2: more for you. Did you notice that all these victims
[50:40] Speaker 2: were women?
[50:41] Speaker 3: Yes, they did.
[50:42] Speaker 2: I don't want you to get the idea that only
[50:44] Speaker 2: women fall for this hogswoggle. Men go hard for this scam. Two, however,
[50:49] Speaker 2: that will require a whole other episode, because we have
[50:51] Speaker 2: different themes of manipulation and I want us to focus
[50:53] Speaker 2: on thoseabe. So I'll be back next week with Part
[50:56] Speaker 2: two from the case Book of Bob Niguard. Psychic detective.
[51:00] Speaker 3: I love it.
[51:00] Speaker 2: So what's our ridiculous takeaway here?
[51:03] Speaker 4: Oh my goodness, I think I hate these predators who
[51:09] Speaker 4: we're going after people who are just really going through it.
[51:12] Speaker 2: Yes, thank you.
[51:13] Speaker 4: You know, And it's like they there are other outlets
[51:17] Speaker 4: that are more difficult to work in. So like, if
[51:20] Speaker 4: you're really having this hard time, therapy would be helpful,
[51:24] Speaker 4: but it requires a lot of self reflection and work,
[51:26] Speaker 4: and it's it's not just a magic fix. And so
[51:30] Speaker 4: these are people who are having such a hard time
[51:31] Speaker 4: and they're looking for help and they're told do X y.
[51:34] Speaker 3: Z and it'll be fixed.
[51:35] Speaker 4: Yes, And you can blame your state of mind on
[51:38] Speaker 4: this curse or on this thing. And I find that
[51:41] Speaker 4: so predatory and disgusting. So that's my takeaway, Sarah.
[51:47] Speaker 2: Oh wow, I'm just ye you're on a road. Well,
[51:51] Speaker 2: thank you for asking. My ridiculous takeaway is that I
[51:56] Speaker 2: really want a Rudy to d fresh and fruity.
[51:58] Speaker 4: When you said Denny, it was like, I would love
[52:03] Speaker 4: breakfast for dinner.
[52:04] Speaker 2: Yes, same, I'd love some like a good diner dinner
[52:10] Speaker 2: that's a breakfast. But also I did have a real one,
[52:13] Speaker 2: which is that the specificity of all their requests are
[52:16] Speaker 2: always so interesting to me, like that I want to rolllex,
[52:19] Speaker 2: I want to Cardie watch. It's always like this, always
[52:21] Speaker 2: expensive stuff. I mean, like the fact that it's so
[52:24] Speaker 2: patterned and like, obviously this works. So this is a
[52:27] Speaker 2: narrative that they figured out that it's almost like a
[52:29] Speaker 2: magic spell that you were casting bit by bit by bit.
[52:32] Speaker 2: It's just kind of interesting to me that actually does
[52:34] Speaker 2: have the properties of what they want. Yeah, ultimately it's horrendous,
[52:38] Speaker 2: but it is a magic spell.
[52:39] Speaker 4: I'm going to open a business where I'm an empowering
[52:43] Speaker 4: curse person. So if someone's like I'm cursed, I'm like, let's.
[52:46] Speaker 2: Let's let's curse them.
[52:47] Speaker 3: Let's curse them. And now you're in charge, We're.
[52:50] Speaker 2: Gonna be throwing spells. We're gonna be casting curses. Get
[52:53] Speaker 2: ready for some forward action. We're getting aggressive, no defense,
[52:56] Speaker 2: all offense.
[52:57] Speaker 3: That's my mindset right now.
[52:58] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[52:59] Speaker 4: It just it's like I'm not going to be a victim.
[53:01] Speaker 4: I'm just gonna and I'm not gonna complain. It's on
[53:03] Speaker 4: you all gas, everybody look out.
[53:05] Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, you in the mood for a talk pack.
[53:09] Speaker 3: Yes, I'm in the mood for it. Talk.
[53:13] Speaker 2: Oh oh my god, super.
[53:20] Speaker 3: I love cheat.
[53:24] Speaker 8: Hi Sarah, hy Elizabeth, this is kit your favorite ridiculous
[53:26] Speaker 8: first suitmaker. I wanted to tell you about this woman
[53:30] Speaker 8: named Opal Covey that my ASL class in college was
[53:33] Speaker 8: super obsessed with for some reason. She ran for mayor
[53:35] Speaker 8: in Toledo on a platform of building an amusement park
[53:38] Speaker 8: in a water park and is also a self proclaimed prophetess.
[53:41] Speaker 8: It looks like she did a little pro wrestling thing
[53:43] Speaker 8: in twenty nineteen, kind of a wacky ride. I feel
[53:45] Speaker 8: like it's up your alley, totally look into it. All right,
[53:48] Speaker 8: let's be bye.
[53:49] Speaker 3: Oh that's fantastic.
[53:51] Speaker 4: You know, there was a guy who every now and
[53:53] Speaker 4: then runs for mayor in Oakland and he wants to
[53:55] Speaker 4: build like a water park at Lake Merritt.
[53:57] Speaker 2: Why are the water parks? Why is that always the town?
[54:00] Speaker 4: Alma, like, you know, to go back and reference parks
[54:03] Speaker 4: and rec.
[54:03] Speaker 3: Yes, the character who oh yes.
[54:06] Speaker 4: You know his downfall was as a teen being mayor
[54:10] Speaker 4: and starting some like snow land whatever.
[54:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, don't do.
[54:13] Speaker 2: It, don't but thank you for that. That's a great recommendation.
[54:17] Speaker 2: And also to all the listeners, we've been getting some
[54:18] Speaker 2: really good recommendations recently. Thank you all, We really appreciate it.
