[0:00] Speaker 1: Madeline is on the phone today for a first date
[0:01] Speaker 1: follow up and she's getting ghosted by a guy named Jesse.
[0:04] Speaker 1: So in a few minutes, we'll call him and see
[0:06] Speaker 1: if he'll tell us why he's ghosting her and maybe
[0:08] Speaker 1: get her a second date. But before we do that, Madeline,
[0:11] Speaker 1: why don't you tell us why you think you're getting ghosted?
[0:14] Speaker 2: I think it's because at the end of our date,
[0:16] Speaker 2: I accidentally sucker punched him in the nuts. Oh, well, that.
[0:21] Speaker 1: Could be it. You said sucker punch, too. Yeah, that
[0:25] Speaker 1: could be a reason. You said accidentally, so maybe not.
[0:29] Speaker 1: If you did it on purpose, definitely, but how'd that happen?
[0:33] Speaker 2: No, I did not intentionally punch this man.
[0:36] Speaker 3: Okay.
[0:37] Speaker 1: No.
[0:39] Speaker 2: You know, the date was actually.
[0:41] Speaker 3: Really, really good.
[0:42] Speaker 2: We had drinks and then we got this delicious food.
[0:47] Speaker 2: We were talking for hours and I thought there was
[0:51] Speaker 2: definitely chemistry. But then when we get to his car,
[0:56] Speaker 2: we had that like horrible first date moment where you
[0:59] Speaker 2: don't know what.
[1:00] Speaker 3: You're supposed to do.
[1:00] Speaker 2: Like, is it a hug? Is it a kiss? a handshake. Like,
[1:05] Speaker 2: do we just say goodbye? Like, co-workers? You know, it
[1:08] Speaker 2: was like, Jesse started basically moving towards me, and I just,
[1:13] Speaker 2: I couldn't tell what he was doing. And for some reason,
[1:16] Speaker 2: it was like, I glitched. And my brain was like,
[1:20] Speaker 2: go for a handshake! So, awkwardly, I just, like, stepped
[1:24] Speaker 2: my hand out. At the exact moment, he opened his
[1:27] Speaker 2: arms and stepped toward me for a hug. And so.
[1:34] Speaker 2: I don't know if you can tell over the phone,
[1:36] Speaker 2: but like, I can be a little awkward sometimes. Like
[1:39] Speaker 2: I didn't exactly like stick my hand out. I just
[1:42] Speaker 2: kind of like rushed it forward directly into his berries.
[1:51] Speaker 2: It was like, I got him good. He literally just
[1:58] Speaker 2: like immediately bent over a little. It was like, I mean,
[2:03] Speaker 2: I started apologizing, which somehow made it worse. But, you know,
[2:07] Speaker 2: then I was like, I was asking, like, OK, so
[2:10] Speaker 2: do you still want the hug? He was like, maybe,
[2:14] Speaker 2: maybe give me a second. I was like, oh, my God,
[2:17] Speaker 2: I want to die. I wanted to die. It was
[2:20] Speaker 2: so awkward.
[2:22] Speaker 1: It sounds like it. Did you recover after that or
[2:25] Speaker 1: did that just how the date ended?
[2:28] Speaker 2: No, thankfully we did hug, but now it was like, okay,
[2:31] Speaker 2: it felt like I was hugging somebody after a minor, like,
[2:34] Speaker 2: workplace injury.
[2:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, super fragile.
[2:38] Speaker 3: It was awkward.
[2:40] Speaker 2: And then I texted him afterwards saying like, okay, I
[2:42] Speaker 2: had a great time. And I apologized again for pretty
[2:45] Speaker 2: much assaulting him. And he was like, oh, well, I'm okay.
[2:50] Speaker 2: But when I texted the next day asking if he
[2:52] Speaker 2: wanted to go out again, it was like, okay, nothing.
[2:55] Speaker 2: And so I'm just thinking, like, maybe he's concerned he
[2:58] Speaker 2: can no longer ever be a future father.
[3:00] Speaker 5: I have no clue.
[3:01] Speaker 1: Oh, no. Madeline is on the phone, and she's getting
[3:04] Speaker 1: ghosted by a guy named Jesse. So we're about to
[3:06] Speaker 1: call him and see if he'll tell us why he's
[3:08] Speaker 1: ghosting her and maybe get her a second date. But first, Madeline,
[3:11] Speaker 1: why don't you give us a quick recap again of
[3:13] Speaker 1: why you think you're getting ghosted?
[3:14] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[3:16] Speaker 2: At the end of the date, he went in for
[3:18] Speaker 2: a hug. I... had a brain glitch for some reason,
[3:22] Speaker 2: went to shake his hand, but accidentally punched him in
[3:25] Speaker 2: the nuts.
[3:28] Speaker 3: Like bad.
[3:28] Speaker 1: All right. Well, let's see if that is the reason
[3:32] Speaker 1: you're getting ghosted.
[3:33] Speaker 2: Here we go.
[3:34] Speaker 1: I'm going to dial this phone number right now.
[3:38] Speaker 3: Hello?
[3:41] Speaker 1: Hi, may I speak to Jesse, please?
[3:43] Speaker 2: Yes.
[3:44] Speaker 1: Hey, Jesse, how are you? This is a radio show.
[3:46] Speaker 1: It's called The Jubal Show.
[3:47] Speaker 6: Hi, Jesse.
[3:47] Speaker 1: I'm Nina. Hi, I'm Victoria. And my name is Jubal.
[3:50] Speaker 1: How are you?
[3:50] Speaker 6: I'm okay.
[3:53] Speaker 3: What's going on?
[3:55] Speaker 1: You sound scared. Yeah, not much. Have you ever listened
[3:58] Speaker 1: to the show before?
[3:59] Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I have.
[4:02] Speaker 1: Okay, cool. Well, maybe you've heard of First Aid Follow-Up.
[4:05] Speaker 1: That's the segment where If you end up ghosting somebody
[4:08] Speaker 1: after a date, they can email us to call you
[4:12] Speaker 1: and find out why you're ghosting them. And that would
[4:14] Speaker 1: be why we're on the phone with you, Jesse.
[4:16] Speaker 2: Okay.
[4:20] Speaker 1: And we got an email about you from Madeline, who
[4:23] Speaker 1: I guarantee you remember going on a date with because
[4:25] Speaker 1: she told us a situation on how she accidentally punched
[4:28] Speaker 1: you somewhere. Very special to you. Yeah. on accident, and
[4:33] Speaker 1: she thinks that might be why you're ghosting her, but
[4:35] Speaker 1: would you mind telling us why you're ghosting Madeline?
[4:38] Speaker 5: Well, it's I didn't feel comfortable explaining it on the radio,
[4:46] Speaker 5: but if she emailed you, she wants to know, okay, well,
[4:49] Speaker 5: she took her.
[4:50] Speaker 6: Shoe off in the middle of dinner, handed it across
[4:53] Speaker 6: the table, and asked me to smell it.
[4:56] Speaker 1: No, she didn't. Wait, what? To smell her shoe? Wait,
[4:59] Speaker 1: why though?
[4:59] Speaker 2: Oh, come on. That's why?
[5:02] Speaker 1: That? Hey, Jessie, that's Madeline. She's actually on the phone
[5:06] Speaker 1: and wants to talk to you.
[5:07] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[5:08] Speaker 1: Madeline, what?
[5:09] Speaker 3: Madeline?
[5:11] Speaker 2: Seriously, is that the reason? Like, what?
[5:16] Speaker 1: Wait, why did you do that?
[5:17] Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, the smell test to see if he
[5:23] Speaker 2: would like, you know, if he can roll with the
[5:27] Speaker 2: ups and the downs of life, you know? What does
[5:29] Speaker 2: that mean?
[5:31] Speaker 1: I don't know this test.
[5:33] Speaker 6: But you say ups and downs. I mean, you took
[5:36] Speaker 6: your shoe off and asked me to smell it. The
[5:38] Speaker 6: fact that you even have to ask. Like, is that
[5:42] Speaker 6: the reason?
[5:43] Speaker 3: Tells me we experienced that whole moment very differently.
[5:46] Speaker 1: Were you guys at dinner and she took her shoe
[5:50] Speaker 1: off and asked you to smell it? Is that what happened?
[5:51] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[5:54] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[5:54] Speaker 3: It's in the middle of dinner. She takes her shoe off.
[5:58] Speaker 6: And look, we're in a nice restaurant and you start
[6:01] Speaker 6: asking me if I smell anything.
[6:04] Speaker 3: And then you say, oh, my God, is that me?
[6:06] Speaker 3: And you proceed to take off your shoe and ask
[6:09] Speaker 3: me to smell it.
[6:10] Speaker 5: Oh, no.
[6:11] Speaker 3: Listen, I thought it was a joke. I wanted to lie.
[6:14] Speaker 3: I thought it was a joke at first until I
[6:15] Speaker 3: realized you were not joking.
[6:17] Speaker 2: Maybe she's totally comfortable with you. I don't know. Yeah, exactly.
[6:23] Speaker 2: I don't even know why you're acting like that. It
[6:24] Speaker 2: was this crazy big thing. Like, you didn't even smell it.
[6:28] Speaker 2: You said no.
[6:29] Speaker 3: Yeah, why would I want to smell your nasty shoe? Why?
[6:36] Speaker 3: I barely know you.
[6:37] Speaker 2: What did you say, Madeline? Curiosity, you know, adventurous nature.
[6:45] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[6:45] Speaker 4: Why not?
[6:46] Speaker 1: So is this something that you do on dates, Madeline?
[6:49] Speaker 1: You see if some of your date will smell your shoe?
[6:51] Speaker 2: Well, I sometimes kind of like to think that, like,
[6:55] Speaker 2: if a guy is willing to, like, smell something that's
[7:00] Speaker 2: intimate or just, like, do something a little weird, then, like, okay, cool,
[7:05] Speaker 2: he's going to be up for it. whatever life throws
[7:09] Speaker 2: at us in the future. And I was just kind
[7:11] Speaker 2: of testing to see like, cool, like the smell test.
[7:14] Speaker 2: Is he like cool with whatever? Or is he kind
[7:17] Speaker 2: of like more proper? And like, all right. Then I
[7:20] Speaker 2: put my shoe back on and I smelled it myself.
[7:23] Speaker 2: I was like, all right, I'll just, it's really not
[7:26] Speaker 2: that weird.
[7:27] Speaker 1: What is it?
[7:30] Speaker 3: Like a weird power testing? Like, Hey man, smell my
[7:33] Speaker 3: shoe and see if I do it. What is this?
[7:37] Speaker 2: I mean, maybe a little bit, maybe kind of. But realistically,
[7:40] Speaker 2: it's like you can't tell sometimes if you smell because
[7:43] Speaker 2: you're surrounded by yourself. So I was like, wait, it's
[7:47] Speaker 2: not something weird. Is that my shoe? Because realistically, it's like.
[7:52] Speaker 2: I'm curious. And I didn't, like, shove it in your face.
[7:55] Speaker 2: I handed it to you. You know, but like I said,
[7:58] Speaker 2: you didn't even smell it because you said no.
[8:01] Speaker 3: Madeline, you handed me your shoe while I was eating calamari.
[8:04] Speaker 3: I'm not smelling your shoe over appetizers.
[8:06] Speaker 4: Oh.
[8:08] Speaker 2: It wasn't touching the calamari. Like, I smelled it myself,
[8:12] Speaker 2: and it wasn't me, and your calamari was fine.
[8:15] Speaker 1: To whom?
[8:17] Speaker 3: To whom?
[8:17] Speaker 2: Who?
[8:21] Speaker 3: I was trying to be.
[8:22] Speaker 2: Consistent by giving it a round instead of actually handing
[8:27] Speaker 2: it to you. Like, if my feet smelled and you
[8:29] Speaker 2: were sitting there suffering through the entire day, that would
[8:32] Speaker 2: have been worse.
[8:33] Speaker 1: Well, I think your feet would be under the table
[8:36] Speaker 1: in your shoe. Maybe not really the first whiff.
[8:41] Speaker 6: I wasn't smelling anything until you handed me a shoe.
[8:45] Speaker 3: Period. I wasn't. I wasn't smelling anything.
[8:48] Speaker 2: But did it smell? The question was, did it smell?
[8:52] Speaker 2: You know?
[8:53] Speaker 3: It didn't smell. It didn't smell. It did not smell.
[8:55] Speaker 2: Well, you didn't smell it. So in any case, what's
[9:00] Speaker 2: the big deal?
[9:02] Speaker 4: The fact that you handed it to me in the
[9:05] Speaker 4: first place. I don't understand how you're not registering. Why
[9:08] Speaker 4: did I even need to be involved in what you
[9:11] Speaker 4: believe to be a smelly shoe? Did you not just
[9:15] Speaker 4: want to.
[9:15] Speaker 3: Do that in your head first?
[9:17] Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
[9:18] Speaker 3: It's a date, not a podiatry consultation.
[9:22] Speaker 2: Excuse me? What did you just call me?
[9:26] Speaker 1: What? No, that's a foot doctor.
[9:29] Speaker 5: I said podiatry consultation.
[9:32] Speaker 3: Consultation podiatry.
[9:35] Speaker 5: That's it.
[9:36] Speaker 2: Okay. Wow. Classy. I cannot believe that you called me
[9:39] Speaker 2: a podiatrist.
[9:40] Speaker 1: Do you know what a podiatrist is?
[9:45] Speaker 2: I do. I'm just not stooping to your level and
[9:49] Speaker 2: I would never do that. I would never be a podiatrist.
[9:51] Speaker 2: That's disgusting.
[9:53] Speaker 1: They make a lot of money.
[9:54] Speaker 2: I do know what it means, but I am not
[9:57] Speaker 2: stupid to your level. Of course I know what a
[10:00] Speaker 2: podiatrist is. It's someone who has sex with another person
[10:04] Speaker 2: for money. And no, I'm not a podiatrist.
[10:07] Speaker 3: Oh, wow. Wow. I do not sleep around.
[10:12] Speaker 1: Madeline, would you like, or Jesse, would you like to
[10:14] Speaker 1: go on another date with Madeline? We will pay for it.
[10:16] Speaker 1: Not that you're a podiatrist, but we'll pay for it.
[10:19] Speaker 3: That is an easy no. That is an easy no.
[10:21] Speaker 3: If it wasn't easy before, it's easy now.
[10:24] Speaker 5: That's an easy no.
[10:25] Speaker 2: Just so you know, I have never been so insulted.
[10:28] Speaker 2: And for the record, I do not sleep around. And certainly,
[10:33] Speaker 2: I am not a podiatrist for money.
[10:36] Speaker 1: Got it.
[10:37] Speaker 2: Yes.
[10:37] Speaker 3: Wow, wow, wow.
