[0:00] Speaker 1: Meg is on the phone today for a first date
[0:01] Speaker 1: follow up, and she's getting ghosted by a guy named James.
[0:04] Speaker 1: So in a few minutes, we're going to call him
[0:06] Speaker 1: and see if he'll tell us why he's ghosting her
[0:07] Speaker 1: and maybe get her another date. But first, Meg, how
[0:10] Speaker 1: long has it been since you heard from James?
[0:12] Speaker 2: Here's the deal. We live in the same building. So
[0:14] Speaker 2: I actually saw him. Yeah, I know.
[0:17] Speaker 3: So I see him in the elevator all the time.
[0:19] Speaker 3: So I actually saw him like this morning. And it's
[0:23] Speaker 3: a little bit awkward just because of all of this.
[0:25] Speaker 3: So but I haven't heard like he hasn't. kind of
[0:28] Speaker 3: followed up by a text or phone which is what
[0:30] Speaker 3: I was kind of waiting for you know what I mean.
[0:32] Speaker 4: Yeah so did you reach out to him other than
[0:35] Speaker 4: seeing him in the elevator yeah.
[0:37] Speaker 3: So I I was sort of expecting a call um
[0:40] Speaker 3: and then this morning when I saw him I just
[0:42] Speaker 3: kind of was like I have to say something because
[0:44] Speaker 3: I haven't heard from him so I just said like
[0:47] Speaker 3: hey you know do you want to go for dinner
[0:48] Speaker 3: sometime and he basically said I'll get back to you
[0:51] Speaker 3: which I feel like is a bad sign.
[0:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, probably not the best. Yeah, exactly. Right.
[0:59] Speaker 2: But it was so great.
[1:00] Speaker 3: Like we went to this trivia night that he had
[1:03] Speaker 3: been telling me about because, you know, I had seen
[1:05] Speaker 3: him in the elevator.
[1:06] Speaker 2: We'd make small chat all the time.
[1:08] Speaker 3: I actually have a tiny confession that I would kind
[1:11] Speaker 3: of plan to be in the elevator when he was there.
[1:13] Speaker 4: Yeah. Been there.
[1:17] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[1:19] Speaker 2: I was like, oh, if I keep running into this guy.
[1:21] Speaker 6: So, yeah.
[1:22] Speaker 2: So I like running.
[1:23] Speaker 3: Into him and we were chatting and he had told
[1:26] Speaker 3: me what this trivia night. And then finally he asked
[1:28] Speaker 3: me out, which I was really psyched about. And we
[1:31] Speaker 3: just like had this great night. We even went back
[1:33] Speaker 3: to his place afterwards.
[1:35] Speaker 4: Well, did something happen? Did anything actually go down on
[1:38] Speaker 4: the date that may have made it a little bit
[1:40] Speaker 4: awkward or that you felt like was a turning point?
[1:43] Speaker 2: Well, here's obviously I have been. analyzing this for days
[1:46] Speaker 2: because it's all I can think of. Yeah.
[1:49] Speaker 3: So the only thing, so I started to go, okay,
[1:51] Speaker 3: maybe it was this because like my sister, she's going
[1:55] Speaker 3: through a bit of a bad kind of breakup right now.
[1:58] Speaker 2: She's a single mom. So she's having a hard time.
[2:01] Speaker 3: She did call me a couple of times.
[2:03] Speaker 2: Oh, it might've been like three or four times when
[2:05] Speaker 2: we were on the date.
[2:07] Speaker 3: And I did answer because I just knew, you know,
[2:11] Speaker 3: and at the time I wasn't thinking, I was like, oh,
[2:13] Speaker 3: I've got to answer.
[2:13] Speaker 6: It's my sister.
[2:14] Speaker 2: You know, she needs me.
[2:15] Speaker 3: But I'm kind of wondering, did that kill the vibe?
[2:18] Speaker 3: And does he think I'm rude, you know, for answering.
[2:20] Speaker 2: The phone so much? And then I'm like, if he
[2:23] Speaker 2: did that to me, yeah, would I be a little pissed?
[2:25] Speaker 2: So I'm wondering if that's it.
[2:27] Speaker 1: Did he say anything about it or did he seem
[2:29] Speaker 1: annoyed by that?
[2:30] Speaker 3: OK, full disclosure. One of them may have come when
[2:33] Speaker 3: we were kind of making out a little bit. So
[2:36] Speaker 3: I guess he seemed a little annoyed when that got
[2:38] Speaker 3: cut off.
[2:40] Speaker 2: But he didn't say anything. It was just kind of.
[2:43] Speaker 3: I kind of feel like, I guess, yeah, that was
[2:44] Speaker 3: kind of the end of the night sort of thing. So,
[2:46] Speaker 3: but he didn't say anything about it. Like he just
[2:48] Speaker 3: was like, okay, you know, good night.
[2:50] Speaker 1: Meg, why don't you catch everybody up on your situation? Yes.
[2:53] Speaker 6: Okay.
[2:54] Speaker 3: So I went out with this amazing guy, James, who
[2:56] Speaker 3: lives in my building. I see him all the time
[2:58] Speaker 3: in the elevator. He finally asked me out. We had
[3:00] Speaker 3: a great time. There was even some makeouts, but it's
[3:05] Speaker 3: been like, oh my God, it's been weeks now.
[3:06] Speaker 2: He has not responded to my last text.
[3:09] Speaker 3: And I've recently seen him in the elevator and basically said, hey,
[3:12] Speaker 3: do you want to go for dinner sometime? And he
[3:14] Speaker 3: basically said, I'll get back to you, which doesn't feel positive.
[3:18] Speaker 5: Yeah.
[3:19] Speaker 6: All right.
[3:20] Speaker 1: And the reason you think you might be getting ghosted
[3:22] Speaker 1: is because you kept answering your phone, right?
[3:25] Speaker 2: I did.
[3:26] Speaker 3: My sister kept calling during the date and she's having
[3:28] Speaker 3: a tough time.
[3:28] Speaker 2: So I did keep answering my phone. Well, yeah, to
[3:31] Speaker 2: be honest.
[3:32] Speaker 1: All right. Well, are you ready for us to call
[3:34] Speaker 1: him and see if I tell us why?
[3:35] Speaker 2: Oh, God. Yeah, I think I'm ready. I'm nervous, but
[3:37] Speaker 2: I'm ready.
[3:37] Speaker 6: Yeah.
[3:38] Speaker 1: Here we go.
[3:39] Speaker 4: Hello?
[3:43] Speaker 1: Hi, may I speak to James, please?
[3:45] Speaker 6: Yeah, this is James.
[3:48] Speaker 1: James, how you doing, man? My name is Jubal. I'm
[3:50] Speaker 1: calling from a radio show. It's called The Jubal Show.
[3:52] Speaker 4: Hi, James. The show's here, too. I'm Nina.
[3:54] Speaker 1: Hi, and I'm Victoria. How are you?
[3:56] Speaker 6: Hey, I'm good. What's up?
[3:59] Speaker 1: Not much. Have you heard the show before?
[4:00] Speaker 6: Ever? Is this something to do with, like, first dates
[4:07] Speaker 6: or something?
[4:08] Speaker 1: Yes actually it does we do it yeah we do
[4:12] Speaker 1: a segment on the show it's called the first date
[4:13] Speaker 1: follow-up it's where if you go out on a date
[4:15] Speaker 1: with somebody and you end up ghosting them they can
[4:17] Speaker 1: email us to get you on the phone and ask
[4:19] Speaker 1: why so we got an email about you from somebody
[4:21] Speaker 1: that's why we're.
[4:22] Speaker 6: Calling oh my god i actually have heard your stuff
[4:26] Speaker 6: before oh my god.
[4:28] Speaker 1: Thank you you know about me yes we got an
[4:30] Speaker 1: email about you okay are you ghosting somebody yeah you
[4:34] Speaker 1: have any idea who Uh.
[4:36] Speaker 6: Yeah, honestly, I'm pretty sure I know who you're talking about. Yeah.
[4:39] Speaker 1: Okay. Who do you think it is? Uh, is it Meg? Yes,
[4:44] Speaker 1: it is Meg. She said she really liked you a
[4:46] Speaker 1: lot and she's confused.
[4:47] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[4:48] Speaker 6: All right. Here's the story. So, I mean, yeah, honestly,
[4:51] Speaker 6: we did have a great date. I had a good time. Um,
[4:55] Speaker 6: the real deal breaker for me, and this might sound
[4:59] Speaker 6: like a small thing, but it's big to me. Uh,
[5:01] Speaker 6: she let it slip that she doesn't like dogs. And
[5:04] Speaker 6: that is a huge deal breaker for me.
[5:07] Speaker 4: Do you have a dog?
[5:08] Speaker 6: No, I don't have a dog right now. We're not
[5:11] Speaker 6: allowed to have dogs in our buildings, but I'm planning
[5:15] Speaker 6: on buying a house someday. And I definitely am getting
[5:18] Speaker 6: a dog when I buy a house. I grew up
[5:19] Speaker 6: with dogs. I love dogs. It's just something I can't
[5:23] Speaker 6: live without having in my life.
[5:26] Speaker 4: I wonder what she would say, though, if you were like,
[5:27] Speaker 4: I need to have dogs.
[5:29] Speaker 2: But what did she say?
[5:29] Speaker 4: Like she said, like she absolutely hated dogs.
[5:31] Speaker 1: She just didn't like them. She's allergic to them.
[5:34] Speaker 6: Well, she was complaining about one of her friend's dogs
[5:38] Speaker 6: and just kind of complaining about the smell and the
[5:42] Speaker 6: mess that it makes all the time. And just kind
[5:44] Speaker 6: of like was like, you know, complaining about this one dog,
[5:47] Speaker 6: but then like, let it get to the point of like,
[5:51] Speaker 6: and that's because of that. I don't like dogs at all.
[5:53] Speaker 6: And that for me was like, well, you're going to
[5:54] Speaker 6: judge all dogs based off this one dog. That is
[5:57] Speaker 6: not for me. That's just not for me, man.
[5:59] Speaker 1: So that's it. Just that she doesn't like dogs.
[6:01] Speaker 6: That is honestly, yeah, it's a huge deal breaker for me.
[6:04] Speaker 6: Like you like, sure, you could you could tolerate dogs,
[6:07] Speaker 6: but I got to have a dog and I can't
[6:10] Speaker 6: foresee myself having a future with somebody who just can't
[6:12] Speaker 6: live with a dog in their life.
[6:13] Speaker 4: I mean, everybody's got their thing. I've never met anybody
[6:16] Speaker 4: that doesn't like dogs.
[6:17] Speaker 2: Yeah, I haven't either.
[6:18] Speaker 3: But also, I do want to say like devil's advocate,
[6:21] Speaker 3: like it could be maybe her friend just really is bad,
[6:24] Speaker 3: like not great at taking care of her dog.
[6:26] Speaker 1: Is that like bad to say?
[6:28] Speaker 6: I can see that. But, you know, then you then
[6:30] Speaker 6: you like you got to feel some pity for that
[6:32] Speaker 6: dog and not just complain about it. You talk to
[6:35] Speaker 6: your friend, right? It was just a total deal breaker
[6:38] Speaker 6: for me. The way you had to hear it. I
[6:40] Speaker 6: don't know. It's tough to say the things that she
[6:42] Speaker 6: was saying because it was it was a gut.
[6:44] Speaker 1: Punch to me. Maybe we should just ask her because
[6:46] Speaker 1: she is on the phone listening and wants to talk
[6:47] Speaker 1: to you.
[6:49] Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
[6:51] Speaker 2: Hi, James.
[6:53] Speaker 6: Hey, yeah, hey, I forgot about this part.
[6:58] Speaker 2: I can't believe this.
[7:00] Speaker 5: Like, my God, if I had like 100 guesses, I
[7:03] Speaker 5: would never guess this is why you're ghosting me.
[7:06] Speaker 6: Listen, it's just like, this is why I didn't want
[7:10] Speaker 6: to bring it up. It feels like a little thing
[7:12] Speaker 6: to a lot of people, but it's a big thing
[7:13] Speaker 6: to me. It's a big part of my life. And,
[7:15] Speaker 6: you know, I really did feel like we had some
[7:18] Speaker 6: chemistry and, you know, and But, but just, it's a
[7:22] Speaker 6: hard no for me. It's a real deal breaker.
[7:25] Speaker 2: But oh my God, we did.
[7:27] Speaker 4: Listen, I agree.
[7:28] Speaker 5: I think we had like amazing chemistry, including on that night,
[7:31] Speaker 5: like the buildup to our first date, all that stuff.
[7:34] Speaker 3: And, I guess I'm just like, okay, what if it
[7:36] Speaker 3: was like, I'm okay. I could learn to be okay
[7:39] Speaker 3: around dogs. Like I just wouldn't like pet them. If
[7:42] Speaker 3: I was around a dog, I could be okay with dogs.
[7:44] Speaker 2: Not that I think they're evil. I just don't like them.
[7:48] Speaker 3: They're like, they, I do think they're messy and there's
[7:50] Speaker 3: always dog hair everywhere and like whatever.
[7:52] Speaker 2: But I mean, does that change?
[7:54] Speaker 6: This is what I'm talking about. This is what I'm
[7:57] Speaker 6: talking about. This is a no for me. Absolutely not.
[7:59] Speaker 6: Like you can't even get through a sentence without saying
[8:02] Speaker 6: something negative.
[8:05] Speaker 5: I mean I guess but like it could be worse
[8:07] Speaker 5: I just feel like there's so many worse things like
[8:09] Speaker 5: it's not like I'm like a murderer or like a
[8:11] Speaker 5: stalker and like and I would like those are real
[8:14] Speaker 5: reasons to not be with somebody I just feel like
[8:17] Speaker 5: I don't know.
[8:18] Speaker 6: Someone who doesn't like dogs could be a.
[8:20] Speaker 5: Murderer oh my god um okay so I just feel
[8:25] Speaker 5: like this is such I mean is that a thing
[8:27] Speaker 5: like where you like don't trust people who don't like
[8:29] Speaker 5: people say that and I'm like what does that even
[8:31] Speaker 5: mean like you don't trust people who don't like dogs
[8:32] Speaker 5: like I.
[8:34] Speaker 6: Absolutely don't trust people who don't like dogs. That is
[8:37] Speaker 6: a hard line. Absolutely don't. You know, I was thinking
[8:41] Speaker 6: it might have been fun for a one night stand,
[8:43] Speaker 6: which is why I let it get as far as
[8:44] Speaker 6: it did. But I'm kind of done at this point.
[8:47] Speaker 6: It's a hard no for me.
[8:49] Speaker 3: Wow okay and now knowing that you were just like
[8:51] Speaker 3: hanging on for one night stand starts to make it
[8:54] Speaker 3: feel like a no for me too so that was
[8:57] Speaker 3: a little a little much to hear so what do
[9:00] Speaker 3: i and now if this is great we live in
[9:02] Speaker 3: like what am i.
[9:03] Speaker 2: Supposed to do when i see you in the elevator
[9:04] Speaker 2: we can ignore all.
[9:05] Speaker 6: Of this and well i don't know you know what
[9:09] Speaker 6: time i ride the elevator every day maybe you can avoid.
[9:11] Speaker 1: Getting in the elevator with me james would you like
[9:14] Speaker 1: to go on another day with meg we'll pay for
[9:15] Speaker 1: it no thank you OK, I mean, I.
[9:19] Speaker 2: Thought, yeah, if I mean, we could get together and
[9:21] Speaker 2: talk it out in person and not like this.
[9:24] Speaker 6: No, thanks. I do not want to be murdered.
[9:29] Speaker 1: All right. Well, I guess you got your answer, Meg
[9:31] Speaker 1: and James. Thanks. Thank you for telling us.
[9:34] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[9:35] Speaker 6: Thanks. I really do like the show.
[9:37] Speaker 1: Thanks.
[9:37] Speaker 4: Thank you.
