[0:02] SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Saints Alive, where we take you with us to meet God's most heroic followers.
[0:08] SPEAKER_00: The Saints were just ordinary boys and girls who allowed God's love to transform them into real life superheroes.
[0:15] SPEAKER_00: Their love for God changed our world.
[0:18] SPEAKER_00: Did you know that God has sent you here to become a saint?
[0:21] SPEAKER_00: It's up to you to choose love over fear, to be courageous, faithful, and kind.
[0:26] SPEAKER_00: The choice to become a saint won't be easy, but it will be worth it.
[0:30] SPEAKER_00: So listen closely and open your hearts.
[0:33] SPEAKER_00: These real life tales of the saints from the past may just inspire you how to live your story.
[0:39] SPEAKER_00: Let's go on this adventure together.
[1:10] SPEAKER_06: That's the game.
[1:28] SPEAKER_13: Keep your chin up.
[1:33] SPEAKER_13: But we haven't won this entire season.
[1:36] SPEAKER_13: We played our best.
[1:38] SPEAKER_13: You had a great game.
[1:40] SPEAKER_13: Two goals.
[1:41] SPEAKER_13: Besides, I love soccer, but there are much more important battles to be fought and won.
[1:49] SPEAKER_02: Maybe so.
[1:50] SPEAKER_02: But they lost those things.
[1:54] SPEAKER_02: Speaking of battles.
[1:56] SPEAKER_02: My mum and dad are at it again.
[2:00] SPEAKER_02: They've been fighting consistently ever since we moved from Bristol.
[2:04] SPEAKER_02: Most days I don't even want to go home.
[2:07] SPEAKER_13: I'm so sorry, brother.
[2:09] SPEAKER_13: Come to my house for a beat.
[2:11] SPEAKER_13: We can play some video games and I have to show you a website I'm working on.
[2:16] SPEAKER_13: Plus, if you're with me, my mom might even make us a Nutella snack.
[2:20] SPEAKER_13: My favorite.
[2:21] SPEAKER_13: That sounds great.
[2:22] SPEAKER_13: I'll call my mum when I get to your house.
[2:25] SPEAKER_13: Adio, grab your bag.
[2:27] SPEAKER_13: It's only a 10-minute walk.
[2:34] SPEAKER_02: Looks like we have to run.
[2:37] SPEAKER_13: It's really coming down.
[2:39] SPEAKER_13: What do we do?
[2:41] SPEAKER_13: Follow me.
[2:48] SPEAKER_02: Of course you choose a church.
[2:51] SPEAKER_02: You know there's like three cafes we could have gone to.
[2:54] SPEAKER_13: Yes, but none of them have him.
[2:57] SPEAKER_13: My best friend.
[2:59] SPEAKER_02: Hey.
[3:00] SPEAKER_13: Do you know the priest?
[3:02] SPEAKER_13: Hey.
[3:03] SPEAKER_13: I thought I was your best friend.
[3:06] SPEAKER_13: You are my best friend, this side of heaven.
[3:10] SPEAKER_13: But I'm talking about Jesus.
[3:13] SPEAKER_13: He's here in that tabernacle, waiting for us to spend time with him.
[3:17] SPEAKER_13: I should have known.
[3:18] SPEAKER_02: Well, tell your best friend to stop this storm so we can play some video games.
[3:25] SPEAKER_13: It will calm down soon enough.
[3:27] SPEAKER_13: It actually reminds me of a story.
[3:30] SPEAKER_02: Alright.
[3:32] SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
[3:33] SPEAKER_02: Hmm.
[3:34] SPEAKER_02: While we wait on the rain, I'll listen to your story.
[3:37] SPEAKER_02: I know you want to tell it, so I'm all ears.
[3:40] SPEAKER_13: Okay, let's sit right here in the front pew, right by the tabernacle.
[3:47] SPEAKER_13: After all, Jesus is a big part of this story.
[3:54] SPEAKER_13: It happened about a hundred years ago in Colombia when our grandfathers were just young boys.
[4:34] SPEAKER_13: Seagulls floated carefree in the air over the ocean, enjoying the soft breeze.
[4:40] SPEAKER_13: Beneath them, waves gently lapped the shore.
[4:44] SPEAKER_13: Overlooking this peaceful scene, Father Larando, the parish priest, was engrossed in teaching his daily catechism class.
[4:58] SPEAKER_09: When Jesus entered into the boat, his disciples followed him, and behold, a great tempest arose in the sea, so that the boat was covered with waves.
[5:09] SPEAKER_09: But Jesus was asleep.
[5:11] SPEAKER_09: And they came to him and awakened him, saying, Lord, save us, we are perishing.
[5:16] SPEAKER_09: And Jesus saith to them, Why are you fearful, O ye of little faith?
[5:23] SPEAKER_09: And then, rising up, he commanded the winds and the sea, and there came a great calm.
[5:30] SPEAKER_09: The man wondered, saying, Who is this whom even the winds and the sea obey?
[5:42] SPEAKER_12: Jose, he wasn't asking you.
[5:44] SPEAKER_12: This is just part of the story.
[5:47] SPEAKER_09: Yes, Jose, you're right.
[5:49] SPEAKER_09: Jesus is the Lord, and he truly still the storm at sea.
[5:54] SPEAKER_09: You are a great listener.
[5:57] SPEAKER_09: You all were great listeners.
[6:00] SPEAKER_09: Well, that is all I had planned for today.
[6:03] SPEAKER_09: Class dismissed.
[6:05] SPEAKER_09: Thank you, and see you all tomorrow.
[6:10] SPEAKER_09: Anna, may I speak with you for a moment?
[6:13] SPEAKER_12: Um sure.
[6:16] SPEAKER_12: Ose wait outside.
[6:18] SPEAKER_12: I'll be right there.
[6:20] SPEAKER_09: I know your little brother has a habit of interrupting.
[6:24] SPEAKER_09: But you need to be more patient with him.
[6:28] SPEAKER_09: He looks up to you more than you know.
[6:31] SPEAKER_09: What a blessing it is to be a big sister.
[6:36] SPEAKER_12: I know.
[6:37] SPEAKER_12: Sorry, father.
[6:40] SPEAKER_09: I know it's been difficult for you and your family.
[6:43] SPEAKER_09: It's been almost a year since your brother went missing at sea.
[6:48] SPEAKER_09: I knew Pablo well.
[6:50] SPEAKER_09: He was a good young man.
[6:52] SPEAKER_09: Did you know I gave him Holy Communion that day, just before he went out fishing?
[6:59] SPEAKER_09: Come to think of it, I gave him his first Holy Communion when he was a boy.
[7:05] SPEAKER_09: And his last.
[7:07] SPEAKER_12: Father, may I be honest with you?
[7:11] SPEAKER_09: Of course.
[7:14] SPEAKER_12: I just I don't find comfort in God or a religion anymore.
[7:22] SPEAKER_12: Since Pablo died, I I don't feel God at all.
[7:29] SPEAKER_12: It seems he must not be here.
[7:36] SPEAKER_12: There or anywhere.
[7:40] SPEAKER_12: If you let him if you let him.
[7:47] SPEAKER_09: Oh my daughter.
[7:49] SPEAKER_09: What believer has not felt what you feel?
[7:53] SPEAKER_09: Jesus himself felt abandoned as he hung on the cross, crying, Father, why have you forsaken me?
[8:00] SPEAKER_12: But if Jesus was God, why did he feel that way?
[8:05] SPEAKER_12: He could have done something.
[8:07] SPEAKER_12: He could have done something for Pablo.
[8:11] SPEAKER_09: Jesus showed us that even he in his humanity felt our loneliness and abandonment.
[8:26] SPEAKER_09: Do you remember the story from today?
[8:32] SPEAKER_09: Yes.
[8:34] SPEAKER_09: What was Jesus doing during the storm at sea while the apostles were frantic and panicking?
[8:40] SPEAKER_12: Sleeping.
[8:42] SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
[8:44] SPEAKER_09: They forgot Jesus was with them and that the storm was no match for his power.
[8:50] SPEAKER_09: You must know that Jesus is always in our hearts.
[8:54] SPEAKER_09: But sometimes we let him fall asleep.
[8:59] SPEAKER_09: Go.
[9:00] SPEAKER_09: Wake him up.
[9:03] SPEAKER_09: He is waiting for you to wake him up so he can show you his power.
[9:13] SPEAKER_12: Pablo believed he must have called on the Lord to save him from that storm.
[9:20] SPEAKER_12: Why did the Lord not answer him?
[9:22] SPEAKER_12: Or me.
[9:26] SPEAKER_09: Not all of our whys can be answered in this life.
[9:30] SPEAKER_09: But to awaken the Lord is to trust him.
[9:33] SPEAKER_09: As Jesus said in the garden before he was to die, begging God to find another way, he gathered the courage to say, Not my will be done, but thine.
[9:45] SPEAKER_09: Remember, Jesus has all of the past, the present, the future, and eternity in his hands.
[9:53] SPEAKER_09: He makes all things work for good for those who love God.
[9:58] SPEAKER_09: All things, Anna.
[10:01] SPEAKER_09: Not just happy things.
[10:03] SPEAKER_09: Trust Jesus, Anna.
[10:06] SPEAKER_09: Trust him to be beside you and work all things to your good.
[10:12] SPEAKER_09: Now, you and Jose run along home.
[10:15] SPEAKER_09: Give my love to your family.
[10:19] SPEAKER_12: I will.
[10:21] SPEAKER_12: Thank you, Father.
[10:25] SPEAKER_11: Hey, what was that all about?
[10:28] SPEAKER_12: Just Father Laurando teaching me to be a better sister.
[10:32] SPEAKER_11: Impossible!
[10:35] SPEAKER_12: You know what I'll always be though?
[10:37] SPEAKER_11: What?
[10:39] SPEAKER_12: A faster sister.
[10:40] SPEAKER_11: Yeah, right.
[10:41] SPEAKER_11: On your mark.
[10:43] SPEAKER_11: Get set.
[10:44] SPEAKER_11: Go.
[10:46] SPEAKER_06: Ha ha.
[10:49] SPEAKER_11: Are you gonna try to run faster?
[11:06] SPEAKER_11: And that race is one.
[11:10] SPEAKER_10: It's about time you two got home.
[11:13] SPEAKER_12: Well, I gave you a head start.
[11:17] SPEAKER_04: I thought I heard you too.
[11:19] SPEAKER_11: Papa, you're home!
[11:22] SPEAKER_04: Ah, there's my boy.
[11:24] SPEAKER_04: I wanted to see you and your sister before I have to head out.
[11:28] SPEAKER_04: I know.
[11:29] SPEAKER_04: How's my little girl?
[11:31] SPEAKER_12: Not so little, Papa.
[11:34] SPEAKER_04: You'll always be little to me.
[11:37] SPEAKER_04: What did Father teach you today at class?
[11:39] SPEAKER_11: It was so cool.
[11:55] SPEAKER_04: What happened then?
[12:01] SPEAKER_04: No.
[12:02] SPEAKER_04: Did they wake him up?
[12:05] SPEAKER_04: Then what happened?
[12:12] SPEAKER_04: That is amazing.
[12:21] SPEAKER_12: Sort of hard to believe.
[12:28] SPEAKER_10: Even when we weren't there.
[12:30] SPEAKER_10: Even when we can't always understand.
[12:34] SPEAKER_12: Well, it's sort of hard to believe.
[12:40] SPEAKER_12: Jesus was here.
[12:49] SPEAKER_04: Come here.
[12:50] SPEAKER_04: I know you're in pain.
[12:53] SPEAKER_04: It's been hard on all of us.
[12:56] SPEAKER_04: But Pablo knew his job was dangerous.
[12:59] SPEAKER_04: And he he loved it.
[13:01] SPEAKER_04: He was afraid of nothing.
[13:03] SPEAKER_04: So he knew the Lord.
[13:04] SPEAKER_04: And so do we.
[13:05] SPEAKER_04: So we have nothing to fear.
[13:10] SPEAKER_12: I can't bring myself to pray.
[13:13] SPEAKER_12: Father Lorondo says I need to wake up Jesus in my soul, just the way the apostles did in the Pope.
[13:20] SPEAKER_12: But I just can't.
[13:24] SPEAKER_04: It's like crossing a desert on foot.
[13:27] SPEAKER_04: Grief takes time to heal.
[13:30] SPEAKER_04: Don't lose your hope.
[13:32] SPEAKER_04: I love you, little one.
[13:35] SPEAKER_12: I love you too.
[13:39] SPEAKER_04: And you know who else loves us?
[13:43] SPEAKER_10: Oh.
[13:44] SPEAKER_04: Mama! Look what she has for you.
[13:51] SPEAKER_10: Jose.
[13:52] SPEAKER_10: Wait until Papa says grace.
[13:56] SPEAKER_04: In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
[14:03] SPEAKER_11: What's happening?
[14:04] SPEAKER_11: Oh no! What do we do?
[14:06] SPEAKER_05: Quickly, under the table.
[14:07] SPEAKER_05: It's an earthquake.
[14:08] SPEAKER_05: Come in.
[14:09] SPEAKER_05: My love, coming.
[14:20] SPEAKER_10: Ah! Ah! Look at this bleeding!
[14:26] SPEAKER_05: I'm I'm okay.
[14:28] SPEAKER_05: I'll be okay.
[14:29] SPEAKER_05: Stay stay where you are.
[14:34] SPEAKER_05: Stoop my love, Stu.
[14:35] SPEAKER_05: Hold my head.
[14:42] SPEAKER_13: The airs continued to quake, spasm and shattered all around them.
[14:47] SPEAKER_13: Trees crashed to the ground, ouses splintered, and wagons toppled over, spilling fruit and wares all over the street.
[14:55] SPEAKER_13: Horses broken free of the reins galloped and reared about the town in panic and confusion.
[15:03] SPEAKER_13: After ten minutes of violent tremors, everything became still once more.
[15:23] SPEAKER_12: Do you think that it's over?
[15:26] SPEAKER_10: I'm not sure.
[15:28] SPEAKER_10: Oh, your leg looks terrible.
[15:30] SPEAKER_10: Can you walk?
[15:33] SPEAKER_05: I I don't think so.
[15:36] SPEAKER_05: I can't bear wait on it.
[15:39] SPEAKER_05: Wait, we're not out of the woods yet.
[15:42] SPEAKER_05: Come outside.
[15:43] SPEAKER_05: Look! The birds.
[15:46] SPEAKER_05: They're flying inland away from the coast.
[15:53] SPEAKER_05: The waves.
[15:55] SPEAKER_05: Not normal.
[15:57] SPEAKER_05: Something's coming.
[16:12] SPEAKER_01: Time away!
[16:13] SPEAKER_05: The tide is going out! I'm gathering! None of us will! The wave will overtake us!
[16:23] SPEAKER_11: We have to go to the church! Jesus will save us!
[16:29] SPEAKER_03: My little one! Out of the box of babes! You're right.
[16:35] SPEAKER_03: Go to the church.
[16:37] SPEAKER_03: It is our only hope.
[16:38] SPEAKER_12: But but what about you?
[16:40] SPEAKER_12: You you can't walk.
[16:42] SPEAKER_04: I need you and Jose to run ahead.
[16:46] SPEAKER_04: Anna?
[16:47] SPEAKER_04: Anna, it is time.
[16:49] SPEAKER_12: What do you mean?
[16:50] SPEAKER_04: It is time.
[16:52] SPEAKER_04: Wake him.
[16:55] SPEAKER_04: Jesus is waiting for you to awaken him in your heart.
[16:59] SPEAKER_04: So go to the church.
[17:01] SPEAKER_04: God will show us his power.
[17:03] SPEAKER_12: Okay, I will go.
[17:05] SPEAKER_12: Run, Jose, run.
[17:13] SPEAKER_13: Anna and Jose ran as fast as their legs could carry them.
[17:17] SPEAKER_13: All along the way, the roads were strewn with fallen trees, broken wagons, and confused animals.
[17:25] SPEAKER_13: Shattered and ruined houses lined the streets.
[17:28] SPEAKER_13: But they ran on, calling to their neighbors as they went.
[17:32] SPEAKER_12: To the church! We have to go to the church!
[17:36] SPEAKER_11: Let's stay in the church! Are they crazy?
[17:40] SPEAKER_11: Running towards the ocean?
[17:42] SPEAKER_11: The wave will swallow us all!
[17:44] SPEAKER_00: No! They're right! Follow them! God will save us! Quickly! Everybody! Run!
[18:00] SPEAKER_13: While the town of Timarco followed Anna and Jose, Father Larondo was praying fervently before the tabernacle.
[18:09] SPEAKER_09: Lord, it was you who shut up the sea with doors when it burst forth from the womb.
[18:15] SPEAKER_09: And it was you who said, Thus far shall you come, but no farther.
[18:21] SPEAKER_09: And here shall your proud waves stop.
[18:25] SPEAKER_09: Lord, do not forsake your people.
[18:29] SPEAKER_09: You have made the sea and everything in it.
[18:32] SPEAKER_09: Preserve us from this most bitter end.
[18:38] SPEAKER_12: Father! Father Lerondo!
[18:42] SPEAKER_09: What are you all doing here?
[18:44] SPEAKER_12: Father! I did what you asked! Jesus is awake! He is awake in my heart.
[18:51] SPEAKER_12: You must lead us on a procession to the beach.
[18:55] SPEAKER_12: God is our only hope.
[18:59] SPEAKER_08: To the beach?
[19:02] SPEAKER_08: To the beach?
[19:04] SPEAKER_08: Yes.
[19:07] SPEAKER_13: To the beach.
[19:10] SPEAKER_13: Father quickly dressed in his finest vestments, consumed the hosts in the tabernacle, and set the large host in the golden monsters.
[19:21] SPEAKER_13: Then he turned to his flock.
[19:25] SPEAKER_09: Let us go, my people.
[19:27] SPEAKER_09: Let us go toward the beach, and may God have pity on us.
[19:34] SPEAKER_13: As he stepped out of the church, the monsterans gleamed brilliant in the morning light.
[19:40] SPEAKER_13: The townspeople, young and old, healthy and haggard, followed their priests closer behind, consoled only by the presence of their Eucharistic Lord.
[19:51] SPEAKER_13: As they turned on to the beach, they met an eerie sight.
[19:56] SPEAKER_13: A great open expanse of sand and seaweed lay before them.
[20:01] SPEAKER_13: Fish flopped about looking for water.
[20:04] SPEAKER_13: In the distance, the sea water was quickly receding, as if being swallowed up by the earth.
[20:12] SPEAKER_13: Then a distant roar began to sound.
[20:15] SPEAKER_13: Out of the depths of the ocean, a black wall of water surged and rose on the horizon.
[20:31] SPEAKER_13: Hungrily racing toward the shore, eager to consume all in its path.
[20:36] SPEAKER_13: Father Larondo, holding the monster in high, yelled out for his people to hear.
[20:46] SPEAKER_07: Helper in troubles.
[20:49] SPEAKER_07: Therefore, we will not fear when the earth shall be troubled and the mountains shall be removed into the heart of the sea.
[20:59] SPEAKER_13: The wave gathered size and strength.
[21:02] SPEAKER_13: The town's people stood transfixed by fear, their feet as steel as stones in the sun.
[21:09] SPEAKER_13: Father Lorondo, however, straining against a strong gale, strode along toward the water, gripping the monstrous tight.
[21:22] SPEAKER_01: Jesus.
[21:26] SPEAKER_01: Be with us now.
[21:30] SPEAKER_01: Save us.
[21:32] SPEAKER_01: We are perishing.
[21:42] SPEAKER_13: The wave had formed a towering wall above them, and they knew only seconds remained before they were drowned.
[21:58] SPEAKER_12: Not my mother.
[22:01] SPEAKER_12: I trust you, Jesus.
[22:07] SPEAKER_13: Father traced the sign of the cross with the host.
[22:12] SPEAKER_13: And then the water hesitated, slowered, and paused as if recognizing its creator.
[22:31] SPEAKER_13: For a breathless moment, the wall of water stood over them.
[23:07] SPEAKER_13: As a defeated army before a triumphant king.
[23:12] SPEAKER_11: It's a miracle, it's a miracle, it's a miracle, it's a miracle, it's a miracle! It's a miracle!
[23:18] SPEAKER_06: It's a miracle! It's a miracle!
[23:24] SPEAKER_13: Father Lorondo turned back towards his people, his eyes wet with tears, still holding the Lord aloft in the monstrance.
[23:34] SPEAKER_13: The sea water lapped now playfully around his ankles.
[23:39] SPEAKER_01: Oh my dear people! The Lord has spared us this day!
[23:48] SPEAKER_07: Why?
[23:49] SPEAKER_07: Why were we fearful?
[23:51] SPEAKER_07: Oh we of little faith.
[23:55] SPEAKER_13: He thrust the monstrance even higher.
[23:58] SPEAKER_01: Who is this?
[24:01] SPEAKER_01: Even the winds and sea obey.
[24:10] SPEAKER_13: The people quietly knelt down on the cool damp sand in adoration.
[24:15] SPEAKER_13: Silence reigned for a moment on the beach.
[24:19] SPEAKER_13: All gazed at the Lord who rescued them.
[24:26] SPEAKER_13: Then from the crowd, a small voice was heard.
[24:32] SPEAKER_12: Jesus! Jesus, it is you.
[25:13] SPEAKER_13: Father Lorondo received letters from as far away as Europe asking for his prayers.
[25:20] SPEAKER_13: Wow.
[25:21] SPEAKER_02: I wish we could still write to him.
[25:24] SPEAKER_02: Maybe he can help my family.
[25:27] SPEAKER_02: Help my mum and dad patch things up.
[25:30] SPEAKER_13: Father Lorondo may not be here, but courage, Joe, my friend.
[25:35] SPEAKER_13: I am here.
[25:36] SPEAKER_13: Ha.
[25:38] SPEAKER_02: Well, I hope you can be of more help than on the football field.
[25:42] SPEAKER_13: Hey! I set you up for those goals.
[25:46] SPEAKER_13: Oh, I had to beg you for the ball.
[25:48] SPEAKER_13: Well, I gave you two things today: the ball and a good story.
[25:54] SPEAKER_13: That you did.
[25:55] SPEAKER_00: Maybe.
[25:56] SPEAKER_02: No promises, but just maybe.
[25:59] SPEAKER_02: I'll stop in here from time to time when the storms get rough at home.
[26:03] SPEAKER_02: And I'll remember your story.
[26:06] SPEAKER_02: You hear that?
[26:07] SPEAKER_02: What?
[26:08] SPEAKER_13: He's quiet.
[26:10] SPEAKER_13: The storm has stopped.
[26:12] SPEAKER_13: I guess the Lord is telling us to be on our way.
[26:18] SPEAKER_13: Hmm.
[26:19] SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of glad that storm rolled in.
[26:23] SPEAKER_02: Me too.
