[0:04] SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the Miracle Hunters.
[0:06] SPEAKER_00: Today, Mia and Paul are over at their friends Brad and Grace's house for a movie night.
[0:11] SPEAKER_00: But before the movie gets started, they'll hear an incredible true miracle story.
[0:16] SPEAKER_00: Let's listen in.
[0:30] SPEAKER_07: This is taking forever.
[0:34] SPEAKER_07: It's been two minutes.
[0:35] SPEAKER_07: Sorry, but explain to me again why are you guys doing everything old school?
[0:41] SPEAKER_08: Because my dad gave up instant gratification for Lent.
[0:45] SPEAKER_08: And now we have to pay the price.
[0:47] SPEAKER_01: You mean reap the benefits?
[0:50] SPEAKER_07: Wait, what do you mean you gave up instant graduation?
[0:54] SPEAKER_01: Gratification.
[0:55] SPEAKER_07: Right, that.
[0:56] SPEAKER_01: Well, I can't give it up entirely, but I'm doing my best to slow down this Lent, be patient, and have life less instant than normal.
[1:06] SPEAKER_01: It's good for the soul to wait on things, work on things, rewind VCRs, make popcorn over the stove.
[1:13] SPEAKER_08: Ah, this is gonna be a long Lent.
[1:16] SPEAKER_07: What's a VCR?
[1:17] SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
[1:19] SPEAKER_07: It's like a DVD, but older and fatter.
[1:23] SPEAKER_07: Okay, well, I don't mind waiting.
[1:25] SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I'm fine with it too.
[1:27] SPEAKER_08: Hey, I need to test out my new comedy set on you guys anyway.
[1:31] SPEAKER_08: Ugh, here we go again.
[1:33] SPEAKER_08: Alright.
[1:34] SPEAKER_08: Let me get situated here.
[1:36] SPEAKER_08: This bit is called knock knock jokes.
[1:39] SPEAKER_08: Oh jeez.
[1:40] SPEAKER_08: Knock knock.
[1:42] SPEAKER_08: Who's there?
[1:43] SPEAKER_08: Tank.
[1:44] SPEAKER_08: Tank who.
[1:45] SPEAKER_08: You're welcome.
[1:46] SPEAKER_08: Booom.
[1:51] SPEAKER_07: Man.
[1:52] SPEAKER_07: Tough crowd.
[1:53] SPEAKER_07: Dad jokes are for dads.
[1:55] SPEAKER_07: No offense.
[1:56] SPEAKER_01: None taken.
[2:00] SPEAKER_08: I need some hope here.
[2:02] SPEAKER_01: I have no idea, but you should ask for Our Lady of Nock's intercession.
[2:10] SPEAKER_01: Who?
[2:11] SPEAKER_01: Our Lady of Nock! Oh, don't tell me you don't know this story.
[2:16] SPEAKER_01: We don't know this story.
[2:17] SPEAKER_08: And now you're gonna tell it.
[2:19] SPEAKER_01: You bet I am.
[2:21] SPEAKER_01: Bret, your sit-down routine will have to wait.
[2:23] SPEAKER_01: This story has to be told.
[2:26] SPEAKER_01: It all started on August 21st, 1879, in the small village of Nock, Ireland!
[2:47] SPEAKER_05: Hey! Hey! Go to the chapel! You're going to go and see this! What in heaven's name?
[2:56] SPEAKER_05: You must go to the chapel! You must come to see the miraculous lights! Capital?
[3:02] SPEAKER_05: Lights?
[3:02] SPEAKER_05: What lights?
[3:04] SPEAKER_05: Which careful?
[3:06] SPEAKER_05: They're lights! Beautiful visions that have to be seen! Please, please, you must come! In the porn red?
[3:16] SPEAKER_04: Well, he could use a good watch, couldn't he?
[3:19] SPEAKER_04: Oh, please, come on, Patrick, you must come! I'm coming!
[3:24] SPEAKER_01: And so, together with a small group of villagers, little Patrick ran toward the chapel.
[3:30] SPEAKER_01: The rain continued to pour down and the sun quietly slipped behind the hills as it sat, making it almost impossible to see.
[3:38] SPEAKER_01: And it until they rounded the corner.
[3:42] SPEAKER_01: And there, just ahead of them, were brilliantly clear white lights glowing on the able wall of the church.
[4:03] SPEAKER_05: See, I told you.
[4:05] SPEAKER_05: I told you.
[4:07] SPEAKER_05: Look at him.
[4:10] SPEAKER_05: Just look at him.
[4:16] SPEAKER_01: In reverent wonder, the villagers approached the lights and fell to their knees, for there, above the lights, stood the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph, Saint John, and an altar with a lamb on it.
[4:36] SPEAKER_07: Wow.
[4:37] SPEAKER_01: Later on, fifteen witnesses described the apparition with the same details.
[4:43] SPEAKER_01: The Blessed Mother was dressed in white robes with a golden crown on her head that had a single rose.
[4:49] SPEAKER_01: Saint Joseph was next to her, bowing his head respectfully toward Mary.
[4:54] SPEAKER_01: To the left of Our Lady stood Saint John, who held an open book and appeared to be preaching, but no voice was heard.
[5:01] SPEAKER_01: And then there was the small lamb on a plain altar with a cross just behind it.
[5:07] SPEAKER_01: The witnesses watched and prayed for over two hours.
[5:11] SPEAKER_01: And though they were soaked in rain, the visions never appeared wet.
[5:16] SPEAKER_08: That's amazing.
[5:17] SPEAKER_08: Isn't it?
[5:18] SPEAKER_08: Okay, that was pretty epic.
[5:20] SPEAKER_08: But Dad, his popcorn's still not bobbing.
[5:23] SPEAKER_01: Hey, I never said the story was over.
[5:25] SPEAKER_01: We had to fast forward a little bit.
[5:28] SPEAKER_01: 293 years later.
[5:42] SPEAKER_06: Oh Sandra, I can't believe you're dragging me out here.
[5:47] SPEAKER_06: Don't be such a bore, Marion.
[5:50] SPEAKER_06: That'll be fun.
[5:52] SPEAKER_06: But you know I have two left feet.
[5:56] SPEAKER_06: Nonsense! You love to dance.
[6:06] SPEAKER_01: The year was 1972.
[6:09] SPEAKER_01: Marion Carroll was young, beautiful, and bright eyed as she stepped onto the dance floor in the small town of Athlone, Ireland.
[6:16] SPEAKER_01: She took in the back room the dancing couples and let herself smile as she started to sway into the music.
[6:29] SPEAKER_06: I think I'm getting the hang of it.
[6:38] SPEAKER_02: Oh I'm sorry.
[6:38] SPEAKER_02: I didn't mean to fall into my nerves.
[6:43] SPEAKER_06: Yes.
[6:45] SPEAKER_02: The name's Jimmy.
[6:46] SPEAKER_06: Marion.
[6:47] SPEAKER_02: Marion.
[6:48] SPEAKER_02: Would you like to dance with me?
[6:52] SPEAKER_06: Yes.
[6:55] SPEAKER_06: Yes, I would.
[7:17] SPEAKER_01: Yep.
[7:17] SPEAKER_08: Blah.
[7:18] SPEAKER_08: A love story?
[7:19] SPEAKER_08: Grace already got a pick Seven Brothers for Seven Brothers last week.
[7:23] SPEAKER_08: Seven brides.
[7:24] SPEAKER_08: You know my hay mask.
[7:26] SPEAKER_01: Well, this is a love story you're gonna like, trust me.
[7:33] SPEAKER_01: Soon, Marion and Jimmy were married and welcomed two beautiful children.
[7:38] SPEAKER_01: They lived a simple, happy life together.
[7:40] SPEAKER_01: But shortly after their wedding, Marion became very sick and was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
[7:47] SPEAKER_01: Over the course of the next 17 years, her health declined.
[7:52] SPEAKER_01: By 1989, she had no power over her legs or her right arm.
[7:57] SPEAKER_01: She suffered from epilepsy, kidney infections, and had lost most of her sight.
[8:03] SPEAKER_01: She was bedridden and required a wheelchair or stretcher to be moved.
[8:07] SPEAKER_01: Despite the weight of this cross, Jimmy's love for Marion only grew as he cared for her each day.
[8:18] SPEAKER_02: There you are, ready for the day.
[8:20] SPEAKER_06: Thank you, Jimmy.
[8:22] SPEAKER_02: You're as beautiful as a day, my dear.
[8:25] SPEAKER_02: You want to see her.
[8:27] SPEAKER_06: That would be lovely.
[8:43] SPEAKER_02: Any idea what that's supposed to mean?
[8:47] SPEAKER_06: He mentioned visiting the knock shrine again.
[8:51] SPEAKER_02: Oh do you want to go?
[8:56] SPEAKER_06: Not particularly.
[8:58] SPEAKER_02: We can make a day of it.
[9:00] SPEAKER_02: I could go with you.
[9:01] SPEAKER_06: Well, I wish you could, but the trip is planned for the third.
[9:06] SPEAKER_06: You work that day, don't you?
[9:09] SPEAKER_02: Yes, well, let me phone the doctor in, see what he thinks.
[9:12] SPEAKER_02: It may do you well, Mayor.
[9:26] SPEAKER_01: Though Marion's doctor wasn't keen on her making the journey, and Marion herself didn't really have a desire, the pieces fell into place, and the trip was planned.
[9:36] SPEAKER_01: And so, with the help of her caregiver Anne, and her ambulance driver, Jerry, Marion was brought to the shrine of Our Lady of Nock, just 50 miles north.
[9:46] SPEAKER_01: It was a cool day on September 3rd, 1989, and the shrine was bustling with visitors, young and old, coming to see the place where Mary had appeared many years before.
[9:56] SPEAKER_01: Busy day here.
[9:58] SPEAKER_01: At least the weather held up.
[10:00] SPEAKER_09: You comfortable there?
[10:02] SPEAKER_06: I'm just fine, Jerry.
[10:03] SPEAKER_06: Thanks.
[10:05] SPEAKER_06: I feel like I'm making such a scene coming in here on a stretcher.
[10:11] SPEAKER_09: Oh, don't you worry about that.
[10:13] SPEAKER_06: Well, where would you like to start?
[10:15] SPEAKER_06: Do you mind bringing me over to the chapel?
[10:18] SPEAKER_06: I'd like to pray in front of the statue of Our Lady for a moment.
[10:24] SPEAKER_06: Of course.
[10:35] SPEAKER_08: Perfect.
[10:36] SPEAKER_08: Thank you, Anne.
[10:38] SPEAKER_08: Of course, take your time.
[10:40] SPEAKER_08: Or you'll be sitting right over there.
[10:46] SPEAKER_06: Oh blessed Mary.
[10:52] SPEAKER_06: You are a mother.
[10:55] SPEAKER_06: You know the heart of a mother.
[11:00] SPEAKER_06: Please.
[11:04] SPEAKER_06: I know my time on this earth won't last much longer.
[11:11] SPEAKER_06: Watch over, Jimmy, for me.
[11:16] SPEAKER_06: And watch over my children.
[11:19] SPEAKER_06: I need you to protect them.
[11:23] SPEAKER_06: Guide them.
[11:25] SPEAKER_06: Comfort them in a way only a mother can when I gone.
[11:33] SPEAKER_01: And while Marion was praying for Jimmy at the chapel, he was praying for her at home.
[11:41] SPEAKER_02: Lord, I come to you to ask for a miracle.
[11:45] SPEAKER_02: But I wouldn't give to dance with Marion one more time.
[11:49] SPEAKER_02: Please, please heal Marion.
[11:52] SPEAKER_02: Heal her completely.
[11:54] SPEAKER_02: Take me instead, but give me a miracle.
[11:58] SPEAKER_06: Glory be to the Father and to the Son.
[12:01] SPEAKER_02: And to the Holy Spirit.
[12:03] SPEAKER_06: Amen.
[12:12] SPEAKER_01: In time, the crowds began to trickle into the beautiful chapel and Mass began.
[12:16] SPEAKER_01: Nothing was out of the ordinary until the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
[12:26] SPEAKER_01: Marian received the body of Christ, and it was in this moment that she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her heels.
[12:35] SPEAKER_01: It only lasted seconds, but as the pain in her heels began to leave, so did the pain in the rest of her body.
[12:56] SPEAKER_06: No, nothing at all.
[13:00] SPEAKER_08: Am I right?
[13:01] SPEAKER_08: If you wanted to stay for the Eucharistic recession, we can go if you're tired.
[13:08] SPEAKER_08: No.
[13:09] SPEAKER_08: Let's stay.
[13:12] SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm sure.
[13:14] SPEAKER_01: When the Mass had ended, Marion watched in reverent wonder as Jesus and the Eucharist was processed around the quiet chapel.
[13:21] SPEAKER_01: She closed her eyes in prayer until the priest was right in front of her, the monstrance held high in his hands.
[13:30] SPEAKER_01: And then something happened.
[13:41] SPEAKER_01: A magnificent feeling of hope swelled within her.
[13:45] SPEAKER_01: Then she heard a tender voice speak four words.
[13:51] SPEAKER_06: Get up and walk.
[13:56] SPEAKER_06: And Jerry, I need you to do something for me.
[14:04] SPEAKER_06: Of course.
[14:05] SPEAKER_09: Anything.
[14:06] SPEAKER_06: I need you to unstra my legs from the stretcher.
[14:14] SPEAKER_08: I don't understand.
[14:17] SPEAKER_06: Please.
[14:19] SPEAKER_06: I can't explain it.
[14:20] SPEAKER_06: I just I know I need you to unstrap my legs.
[14:26] SPEAKER_01: With trepidation, Anne and Jerry tenderly unstrapped Marion's legs from the stretcher.
[14:32] SPEAKER_01: It had been three years since she'd been able to walk, and her legs were small and atrophied.
[14:39] SPEAKER_01: But as they released the straps, her feet swung down to the floor.
[14:44] SPEAKER_01: And then Marion lifted herself up, stood, and walked.
[14:57] SPEAKER_05: Oh Marion!
[14:59] SPEAKER_09: It's a miracle.
[15:01] SPEAKER_09: A miracle, I tell you!
[15:03] SPEAKER_01: Marion Carol was completely healed.
[15:07] SPEAKER_01: She walked without any stiffness.
[15:09] SPEAKER_01: Her sight was restored, and she moved her entire body without any pain.
[15:16] SPEAKER_01: Tears of joy and gratitude slipped down her cheeks as she prayed before the blessed sacrament.
[15:25] SPEAKER_05: Thank you, Jesus.
[15:35] SPEAKER_06: Thank you, Jesus.
[15:36] SPEAKER_06: Oh my Lord, Jesus.
[15:38] SPEAKER_06: Thank you, thank you, sweet Jesus.
[15:43] SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
[15:45] SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
[15:46] SPEAKER_06: Oh my Lord.
[15:47] SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
[15:50] SPEAKER_01: That day and not, the hearts of all in the chapel were filled with the same joy and peace of the 15 villagers that first saw the apparition all those years ago.
[16:08] SPEAKER_09: Marion, I think it's time we head home.
[16:11] SPEAKER_09: There's a certain someone that will want to hear about this.
[16:17] SPEAKER_06: Let's go home.
[16:21] SPEAKER_09: Yes.
[16:22] SPEAKER_06: I have an idea.
[16:24] SPEAKER_06: Say not to Jimmy.
[16:27] SPEAKER_06: We'll surprise him.
[16:30] SPEAKER_09: Surprise might be an understatement.
[16:32] SPEAKER_09: Now let's get you home.
[16:34] SPEAKER_09: Looks like it'll be your last ride in an ambulance.
[16:51] SPEAKER_01: When Marion arrived home, Jimmy stood by the door waiting for her.
[16:55] SPEAKER_01: With a wink, Jerry wheeled Marion down from the ambulance in her wheelchair and brought her inside.
[17:03] SPEAKER_01: Well, Mayor?
[17:04] SPEAKER_01: I was knocked.
[17:07] SPEAKER_06: Why would anyone bother going down there anyway?
[17:11] SPEAKER_02: Well, I'm glad you're home.
[17:12] SPEAKER_02: Can I get you something to eat?
[17:14] SPEAKER_06: Jim?
[17:15] SPEAKER_02: Yes?
[17:17] SPEAKER_02: What?
[17:18] SPEAKER_02: What is it?
[17:19] SPEAKER_06: Something wonderful has happened today.
[17:22] SPEAKER_02: Oh and what's that?
[17:24] SPEAKER_06: I Jimmy.
[17:28] SPEAKER_06: I can walk.
[17:30] SPEAKER_06: Look.
[17:35] SPEAKER_03: You can walk.
[17:37] SPEAKER_03: Mary, you're walking! You're walking!
[17:42] SPEAKER_06: It's America, Jimmy! I have no pain anywhere.
[17:49] SPEAKER_03: I'm ailed completely.
[17:54] SPEAKER_03: It's America! Oh Lord, thank you! All these years of suffering, my prayer's been answered.
[18:02] SPEAKER_03: Thank you, Jesus.
[18:04] SPEAKER_06: Jim, I just have one question for you.
[18:10] SPEAKER_03: Ask away.
[18:12] SPEAKER_03: Would you like to dance with me?
[18:16] SPEAKER_03: Yes.
[18:17] SPEAKER_03: Yes, I would.
[18:35] SPEAKER_07: Wait, did you make this story up?
[18:38] SPEAKER_01: Not one bit.
[18:40] SPEAKER_01: It's all true.
[18:42] SPEAKER_01: Wow.
[18:43] SPEAKER_01: So, what happened to Marion and Jimmy after that?
[18:46] SPEAKER_01: After she was healed, Marion devoted her entire life to sharing the story of her miraculous healing to share the hope of Christ.
[18:53] SPEAKER_01: She's still alive today.
[18:55] SPEAKER_01: She and Jimmy just celebrated 50 years of marriage.
[18:59] SPEAKER_01: And in 2019, her healing was confirmed as a miracle.
[19:03] SPEAKER_07: I bet they still dance together.
[19:05] SPEAKER_01: You know what, Grace?
[19:07] SPEAKER_01: I bet they do.
[19:09] SPEAKER_08: Okay.
[19:10] SPEAKER_08: I'm gonna ask our Lady of Nok to help me with my sit-down comedian routine.
[19:14] SPEAKER_01: Hey! And that was a miracle story, right?
[19:17] SPEAKER_07: Yep, add it to the miracle jar.
[19:20] SPEAKER_01: You see that?
[19:21] SPEAKER_01: Did you guys see that?
[19:23] SPEAKER_01: See, now that is what patience gets you.
[19:27] SPEAKER_08: The smell of burnt popcorn?
[19:29] SPEAKER_01: The joy of watching the popcorn pop! Alright.
[19:34] SPEAKER_01: Let's go watch that movie.
[19:36] SPEAKER_01: I bet the VCR is just about ready.
[19:40] SPEAKER_07: It better be! My clothes are going out of style.
[19:53] SPEAKER_00: What an incredible miracle story! Thank you so much for listening.
[19:57] SPEAKER_00: If you can think of any friends or family in your life who might want to listen to this challenge too, please help us spread the word by clicking the share button that will pop up at the end of this session.
