## Transcript

[0:01] SPEAKER_02: Welcome to Saints Alive, where we take you with us to meet God's most heroic followers.
[0:07] SPEAKER_02: The Saints were just ordinary boys and girls who allowed God's love to transform them into real life superheroes.
[0:14] SPEAKER_02: Their love for God changed our world.
[0:17] SPEAKER_02: Did you know that God has sent you here to become a saint?
[0:20] SPEAKER_02: It's up to you to choose love over fear, to be courageous, faithful, and kind.
[0:26] SPEAKER_02: The choice to become a saint won't be easy, but it will be worth it.
[0:30] SPEAKER_02: So listen closely and open your hearts.
[0:32] SPEAKER_02: These real life tales of the saints from the past may just inspire you how to live your story.
[0:38] SPEAKER_02: Let's go on this adventure together.
[0:48] SPEAKER_02: Hey guys, from everyone here at Saints Alive, we hope and pray you are having a beautiful summer.
[0:54] SPEAKER_02: This is a special public release of Saint Catherine Drexel that was released as part of this past year's Hallows Kids Lent Challenge, The Little Way.
[1:05] SPEAKER_02: Welcome back.
[1:06] SPEAKER_02: Today we'll hear more of the story of St.
[1:08] SPEAKER_02: Catherine Drexel, but first, let's listen in and see what the Buckley family is up to.
[1:27] SPEAKER_10: Can someone turn on the lights?
[1:29] SPEAKER_10: I can't see a thing.
[1:30] SPEAKER_10: I'm trying.
[1:31] SPEAKER_10: I I think this light is out.
[1:33] SPEAKER_01: Oh shoot.
[1:34] SPEAKER_01: This one is too.
[1:36] SPEAKER_01: Bathroom light isn't working either.
[1:38] SPEAKER_10: Well, that settles it.
[1:39] SPEAKER_10: We've lost power.
[1:41] SPEAKER_01: Yes, this is epic.
[1:43] SPEAKER_01: Look who the optimistic one is now.
[1:45] SPEAKER_10: I'll call the landlord and see what they can do.
[1:47] SPEAKER_10: Be right back.
[1:48] SPEAKER_01: Oh, a spooky candlelight.
[1:51] SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness, you are too much.
[1:54] SPEAKER_01: I have an idea.
[1:55] SPEAKER_01: Why don't we all cuddle up on the couch with the candlelight?
[1:58] SPEAKER_01: And you can tell us more of the story of St.
[1:59] SPEAKER_01: Catherine Drexel.
[2:01] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and tell the spooky part.
[2:04] SPEAKER_03: Hate to break it to you, kiddo, but this is not a spooky story.
[2:07] SPEAKER_03: Aw.
[2:08] SPEAKER_03: Okay, where was I?
[2:10] SPEAKER_03: Well, time passed as it does, and Little Kate was growing up.
[2:36] SPEAKER_02: The girls especially looked forward to spending their summers at the family farmhouse in Torsdale, just outside of the city.
[2:50] SPEAKER_07: I just absolutely love it here, Mama.
[2:53] SPEAKER_05: Isn't it beautiful?
[2:56] SPEAKER_05: Nothing like some fresh air and sunshine.
[2:59] SPEAKER_05: It's perfect.
[3:00] SPEAKER_07: I think we should call it Saint Michelle.
[3:02] SPEAKER_07: And why is that?
[3:04] SPEAKER_07: Well, I imagine we'll be spending a lot of time here altogether.
[3:07] SPEAKER_07: And that way we can ask St.
[3:08] SPEAKER_07: Michael the Archangel to protect us.
[3:11] SPEAKER_02: As the girls grew older, they were given several responsibilities on the farm.
[3:15] SPEAKER_02: Kate, who was very clever and practical, served as St.
[3:18] SPEAKER_02: Michelle's housekeeper, where she oversaw the employees and even learned to manage the finances.
[3:24] SPEAKER_02: She was a banker's daughter, after all.
[3:26] SPEAKER_02: But what Kate loved most was teaching Sunday school catechism classes to the young children of the neighboring families?
[3:43] SPEAKER_07: Okay, everyone! Okay, everyone, settle down.
[3:48] SPEAKER_07: Now, does anyone remember the last thing that Jesus told his apostles before he ascended into heaven?
[3:57] SPEAKER_08: Um, um, that he loved them?
[4:00] SPEAKER_08: That he would never forget them?
[4:02] unknown: Ah, yes.
[4:04] SPEAKER_07: Well, those things are certainly true.
[4:07] SPEAKER_07: But I'm thinking of something a little bit different.
[4:11] SPEAKER_07: I'll give you a hint.
[4:12] SPEAKER_07: Jesus gave them a very important task.
[4:16] SPEAKER_08: Oh, I remember now.
[4:18] SPEAKER_07: He gave them a mission! Yes, that's right.
[4:22] SPEAKER_07: He said, Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations.
[4:27] SPEAKER_07: Baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
[4:35] SPEAKER_08: How did they ever make disciples of all the nations?
[4:39] SPEAKER_08: That sounds impossible.
[4:41] SPEAKER_07: Yes.
[4:42] SPEAKER_07: Now, that is an excellent question.
[4:46] SPEAKER_07: Jesus knew it would be difficult for his disciples, but he also knew it wasn't up to just them.
[4:52] SPEAKER_07: In fact, I think Jesus was also talking to you.
[4:56] SPEAKER_07: To me?
[4:57] SPEAKER_07: Yes.
[4:58] SPEAKER_07: To each one of us.
[4:59] SPEAKER_07: We are all called to share the word of God with everyone we meet and wherever we are.
[5:07] SPEAKER_07: Even here?
[5:08] SPEAKER_07: On the farm?
[5:10] SPEAKER_07: Especially here, my dear.
[5:13] SPEAKER_07: Wherever there is a need.
[5:19] SPEAKER_02: As the seasons changed and the years flew by, Kate grew from a young girl into a young lady.
[5:26] SPEAKER_02: So much so that when she finished school and celebrated her 20th birthday, Kate's parents decided it was time for her to make her formal entrance into society.
[5:37] SPEAKER_08: Aren't you excited, Kate?
[5:39] SPEAKER_08: This is going to be such a glorious party.
[5:41] SPEAKER_08: You know, sometimes it's hard being the youngest.
[5:44] SPEAKER_08: By the time I'm old enough, you and Elizabeth will have taken all the good suitors.
[5:49] SPEAKER_07: Oh goodness, slow down, Louise.
[5:52] SPEAKER_07: It's just my debut, not my wedding day.
[5:55] SPEAKER_07: Plus, I'm not so sure I even want to get married.
[6:00] SPEAKER_07: Maybe God is calling me to something else.
[6:03] SPEAKER_07: There's always religious life, you know.
[6:05] SPEAKER_08: Oh, Kate, don't be silly.
[6:07] SPEAKER_08: Besides, if you joined the convent, you would never get to wear such a gorgeous dress, and I must say, oh, you look absolutely darling in it.
[6:14] SPEAKER_08: Give it a twirl.
[6:16] SPEAKER_02: Kate forced a smile and obliged her little sister, but as she looked at herself in the mirror, she wasn't really thinking about the dress, or even the party, for that matter.
[6:30] SPEAKER_01: I'm Sarah.
[6:31] SPEAKER_01: I love her dress.
[6:33] SPEAKER_01: It's so beautiful.
[6:44] SPEAKER_02: Kate winced at the memory of the poor little girl whom she had played with all those years ago, standing so frail and helpless in her tattered clothes at their doorstep.
[6:56] SPEAKER_07: It just doesn't make any sense.
[6:58] SPEAKER_07: How could I want for nothing and have everything at my fingertips when so many others are in so much need?
[7:08] SPEAKER_06: Kate?
[7:10] SPEAKER_06: It's time, my dear.
[7:12] SPEAKER_06: Come and greet your guests.
[7:15] SPEAKER_02: Kate made her way downstairs to join the party and spent the evening politely mingling with the hundreds of guests in attendance.
[7:23] SPEAKER_02: Excuse me, Kate.
[7:25] SPEAKER_09: May I have this dance?
[7:33] SPEAKER_00: Allow me, won't you?
[7:39] SPEAKER_05: Come along now, Kate.
[7:41] SPEAKER_05: I'd like you to meet a fine young gentleman in the dining room, Mr.
[7:45] SPEAKER_05: Robert.
[7:49] SPEAKER_04: Mr.
[7:50] SPEAKER_04: Mr.
[7:50] SPEAKER_04: Rob Mama! Are you all right?
[7:55] SPEAKER_04: Oh, yes, dear.
[7:57] SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm quite all right.
[8:02] SPEAKER_07: Oh, sit down, Mama, please.
[8:04] SPEAKER_07: Let me get you something to drink.
[8:06] SPEAKER_07: Papa! I think we better call the doctor.
[8:17] SPEAKER_06: Are you sure, Doctor?
[8:20] SPEAKER_00: I am so sorry, Emma.
[8:23] SPEAKER_00: But I'm afraid there's nothing we can do.
[8:26] SPEAKER_00: It's cancer.
[8:30] SPEAKER_02: Terminal.
[8:31] SPEAKER_02: For the next three years, Emma Drexel suffered in pain from her diagnosis.
[8:38] SPEAKER_02: As her health continued to decline, Kate stayed faithfully by her side, nursing her sick mother and attending to her every need.
[8:50] SPEAKER_07: You look rather pale today, Mama.
[8:52] SPEAKER_07: How are you feeling?
[8:56] SPEAKER_06: Oh, I'm fine, dear.
[8:59] SPEAKER_06: Just a little tired is all.
[9:01] SPEAKER_06: I couldn't quite sleep last night.
[9:04] SPEAKER_07: Why not?
[9:05] SPEAKER_06: Well, I had a strange dream.
[9:11] SPEAKER_06: In the dream, there was a locked door.
[9:16] SPEAKER_06: And you were with me.
[9:19] SPEAKER_06: So I asked you for the key.
[9:23] SPEAKER_06: And then you told me.
[9:25] SPEAKER_06: Well, that Jesus holds the key.
[9:33] SPEAKER_06: You said it was the door of his heart.
[9:36] SPEAKER_06: And that he would open it for all those who knock.
[9:43] SPEAKER_06: It made me think that the Lord wants to take me home.
[9:48] SPEAKER_06: Mama.
[9:51] SPEAKER_06: But listen to me.
[9:53] SPEAKER_06: Sweetheart.
[9:55] SPEAKER_06: The dream felt so real.
[10:00] SPEAKER_06: And I just have this feeling that the Lord is also asking something of you.
[10:07] SPEAKER_06: That He has a different door for you to walk through.
[10:13] SPEAKER_06: I only wish I could be there to see where He will lead you.
[10:20] SPEAKER_07: Mama, you will always be with me.
[10:24] SPEAKER_07: And I promise that wherever the Lord calls, I will follow Him.
[10:30] SPEAKER_07: I learned that from the best, after all.
[10:58] SPEAKER_09: What's with the downcast faces?
[11:00] SPEAKER_01: Mama's just telling us a really sad story.
[11:03] SPEAKER_01: Well, it's not over yet.
[11:05] SPEAKER_03: Don't worry, it gets better.
[11:07] SPEAKER_03: I'll hold you to it.
[11:08] SPEAKER_03: Can you finish tomorrow?
[11:09] SPEAKER_03: Yes.
[11:10] SPEAKER_03: Trust me on this one.
[11:12] SPEAKER_03: It's a great ending.
[11:13] SPEAKER_10: Alright, well, now that we have some power, who wants some of Dad's famous pasta?
[11:19] SPEAKER_03: Me! I do! Pasta sounds perfect.
[11:26] SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much for listening today.
[11:29] SPEAKER_02: Make sure to tune back in tomorrow.
[11:39] SPEAKER_02: Thanks for listening to the second part of St.
