## Transcript

[0:27] SPEAKER_01: Yes, welcome back, pretenders.
[0:30] SPEAKER_01: We are back for day five of the daily pods leading into the men's Iron Man World Championships here in Nice.
[0:37] SPEAKER_01: I don't know if we're uh if we're quite as fresh as we were four days ago, but we're as pumped up as ever.
[0:42] SPEAKER_01: And I'm joined once again by the second greatest triathlet of all time, the 20-time Iron Man 70.3 champion Sam Appledon.
[0:50] SPEAKER_04: Number two.
[0:51] SPEAKER_04: Uh, it's good to be back.
[0:52] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it does feel like uh kilometer 30 on the marathon.
[0:56] SPEAKER_04: The the uh you know the fatigue is hitting, but uh the end is in sight.
[1:00] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, it's good to be here, Jack.
[1:01] SPEAKER_01: The penultimate day, so make make the most of it while we're here.
[1:04] SPEAKER_01: And as always, the fastest swimmer in Trithlon, although he's only ranked number three in the world, and the most opinionated man in Trithlon, Greg Harper.
[1:12] SPEAKER_03: Hey Jack, Sam, good to be here, and thanks for having me yet again.
[1:16] SPEAKER_03: I wouldn't know what it's like to be a kilometer thirty of a marathon because I'm too scared to do an Iron Man, but uh I'll take your word for it, Sam.
[1:23] SPEAKER_01: I was I went for a run today as well, and it was super hot.
[1:26] SPEAKER_01: I was like, I want to go for a run roughly at the time when they'll be doing the marathon just to get like a feel, and I ran out on the course and it was so hot.
[1:34] SPEAKER_01: So if it's conditions like it was today, it rained yesterday and then it was really hot today.
[1:39] SPEAKER_01: Either way, I think it'll be super brutal conditions out on the marathon.
[1:42] SPEAKER_04: What was the temperature, Jack?
[1:43] SPEAKER_04: Because I know la uh two years ago for the men it was pretty warm.
[1:46] SPEAKER_04: Like didn't it get up to high 20s or even 30 degrees?
[1:49] SPEAKER_04: Is it supposed to be that um that warm again this weekend?
[1:52] SPEAKER_01: Well, today it got up to like 27, but it felt a lot hotter.
[1:55] SPEAKER_01: It's weird because I remember when I came for camp here in the build-up to it last year, the temperature would say that it was like 30, but it would feel like it was 35 or 36.
[2:05] SPEAKER_01: So it always feels hotter here than what it says, and it got up to about 27.
[2:09] SPEAKER_01: And then it's predicted to rain on the Saturday and even into the Saturday evening, but then on race day, it'll be like one of those cloudy mornings where the sun comes out later and get up to like 24, 25 degrees, but quite high humid humidity.
[2:22] SPEAKER_01: So I think it could actually be quite hard on the marathon.
[2:25] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and then you always get the sun, like the heat reflecting off the road as well.
[2:29] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, like actually on the road when you're running, it's generally hotter than like the ambient air temperature as well.
[2:34] SPEAKER_03: So yeah, it could be a warm one.
[2:36] SPEAKER_03: It's about 75 degrees uh out there for the freedom unit listeners, by the way.
[2:41] SPEAKER_01: I reckon it's one of those run courses where it's like so it's out, back, out, back.
[2:47] SPEAKER_01: And I think a lot of people will be really good for the first out and back because it's quite fast.
[2:52] SPEAKER_01: So you can get moving, but expect quite a like a few blow-ups in the in the last out and back.
[2:59] SPEAKER_01: I reckon it'll be one of those things where no one gets close to negative splitting and there's a lot of carnage on the last out and back.
[3:05] SPEAKER_01: So keep an eye on that.
[3:06] SPEAKER_01: Um, all right, we're gonna start the show today exactly like we did yesterday.
[3:10] SPEAKER_01: It's super fun.
[3:12] SPEAKER_01: Uh, that's reading some of your Spotify comments and just you know, giving our take on it.
[3:16] SPEAKER_01: Uh there were so many, like it's so hard to um go and pick them.
[3:20] SPEAKER_01: So sorry if we don't get to yours.
[3:22] SPEAKER_01: And a lot of you commented it on yesterday's, but it was after we'd already recorded.
[3:26] SPEAKER_01: So um just remember that we might not have actually seen it in time.
[3:30] SPEAKER_01: Uh I'll start us off.
[3:32] SPEAKER_01: Daniel Cope says, Can we get a Jack Kelly alternate commentary stream for the Iron Man World Championships this week?
[3:38] SPEAKER_01: Would love to.
[3:39] SPEAKER_01: I all I can do is ask Iron Man tomorrow.
[3:42] SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go and talk to the media team.
[3:44] SPEAKER_01: I'll ask the question, they'll probably say absolutely not, or pay us$100,000 and you can, but I'll ask the question.
[3:51] SPEAKER_01: That's all I can do.
[3:52] SPEAKER_03: So they would shut it down, right?
[3:54] SPEAKER_03: If you started streaming it on your YouTube, but you you could do like a oh, I'm on YouTube and we're just having a chat, but that's kind of the extent of it, right?
[4:02] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
[4:02] SPEAKER_01: We could do a watch along where it's not on the screen, but if we put the coverage on the screen, which is actually technically quite hard to do, but if we did do it, they would just ban it straight away and we'd get a copyright strike on YouTube.
[4:14] SPEAKER_01: And Iron Man might re-ban me.
[4:16] SPEAKER_01: Because remember in 2023, uh Andrew Mesick banned me from all Iron Man events for lifetime, but here I am in Nice in 2025.
[4:25] SPEAKER_04: I've got a funny one, then and Jack, this has actually been on my mind for quite some time, and I've never approached you about it.
[4:32] SPEAKER_04: But Chris Reed, Chris Reed comments Jack being sensitive about the pronunciation of Uruguay and then somehow managing to add a Y into Caspar Stornes is so good.
[4:47] SPEAKER_04: Jack, can you just pronounce Caspar's last name for me, please?
[4:50] SPEAKER_01: Casper Stoyners.
[4:57] SPEAKER_04: Is that inside uh information on how to actually pronounce it?
[5:00] SPEAKER_04: Or um are you just adding that why in for some flavour?
[5:03] SPEAKER_01: I just say it exactly how Casper says it, and I figure he knows it's been his lot his name for his lifetime.
[5:08] SPEAKER_01: And just to clear up the record, Apo, I wasn't like I wasn't uh upset about Uruguay.
[5:14] SPEAKER_01: I didn't know how it was said.
[5:15] SPEAKER_01: Like I geography is a real weak point of mine.
[5:17] SPEAKER_01: I didn't know that Wales and Scotland were a different place, and Dan David McNamee still doesn't talk to me about it uh because I called him I can't even remember, I called him Welsh or Scottish.
[5:26] SPEAKER_01: He's the other one of whatever I called him.
[5:27] SPEAKER_01: I thought that was the same thing.
[5:28] SPEAKER_01: So geography is like my big blind spot.
[5:31] SPEAKER_01: I don't know anything about it.
[5:32] SPEAKER_01: I was genuinely curious whether it was Uruguay or Uruguay.
[5:36] SPEAKER_03: All right.
[5:37] SPEAKER_03: I got uh good to see Apo.
[5:39] SPEAKER_03: This is from Sam Brand.
[5:40] SPEAKER_03: Good to see Apo not sitting on the fence again.
[5:42] SPEAKER_03: However, he says Chipotle is better than GYG again.
[5:46] SPEAKER_03: I'll follow Hayden Wilde and unfollow the pod.
[5:50] SPEAKER_03: Now I gotta clarify, or you mentioned GYD, GYG.
[5:56] SPEAKER_03: What is that?
[5:57] SPEAKER_03: And is that like an Australian thing?
[5:59] SPEAKER_03: Because I didn't actually know what you guys are talking about.
[6:02] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a um it's an Australian version of Chipotle, as you would uh pronounce it, Greg.
[6:07] SPEAKER_04: I say Chipotle, but um it yeah, it's kind of just a ripoff of Chipotle, and uh I don't think it's quite as good.
[6:15] SPEAKER_04: Um Jack, what are your thoughts on the Chipotle versus GYG?
[6:19] SPEAKER_01: I think they're different.
[6:19] SPEAKER_01: Chipotle, the Australian saying, I feel is plainer, but more consistently good.
[6:26] SPEAKER_01: Whereas Guzman is a bit more it's a bit more adventurous, but you can order the wrong thing.
[6:32] SPEAKER_01: But if you get a good day and the right order at Guzman y Gomez, it's it's better than Chipotle, but I would agree that the baseline of Chipotle is quite a bit better.
[6:41] SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that gets us both unfollowed by Sam, but Aiden, there you go.
[6:45] SPEAKER_01: Maybe you've got a new follower.
[6:46] SPEAKER_01: Uh all right.
[6:49] SPEAKER_01: Uh Simon says, guys, just watch KB, that's Christian Blumenfeld's latest YouTube video.
[6:55] SPEAKER_01: Uh and unless I misunderstood something, it looks like he really did complete that big session.
[7:00] SPEAKER_01: Y'all, so he must be American, have an explanation for that, or am I tripping?
[7:05] SPEAKER_01: Uh okay, yeah, that was a different session.
[7:07] SPEAKER_01: They did do another big session that Christian finished, but uh can confirm that the the mega mega session on Sunday, KB did eleven kilometres and Gustav did 32 kilometers.
[7:18] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, jury's still out on whether Christians fit or fucked, I reckon.
[7:22] SPEAKER_03: So this session from his YouTube was like what two weeks out?
[7:25] SPEAKER_03: So like they it it seemed like it was pretty similar, right?
[7:29] SPEAKER_03: I mean, so are they doing massive sessions like that, kind of back-to-back weekends going into the race?
[7:34] SPEAKER_01: And they did it last year as well, Greg.
[7:36] SPEAKER_01: They do like a it's all they usually do it on a Sunday and they do a big ride into a big brick and they do always do like a progression run, usually with like 30-minute intervals or 10-minute intervals or stuff.
[7:46] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, they do quite a few of them, and he he did hit one two weeks out, but didn't hit the one one week out.
[7:50] SPEAKER_03: Well, and they're also doing like track work and spikes like in between those two work.
[7:54] SPEAKER_03: Like, yeah, I mean, they obviously do a lot of hard work, but it seems like most people would be able to handle like one of those in the last week, two weeks, and they're doing two plus other sessions too.
[8:04] SPEAKER_03: So if Christian is a bit fucked, as we said, it's you know, they've been doing some some crazy stuff in the last couple weeks.
[8:11] SPEAKER_04: This is their first um world championships when they're all coaching themselves as well.
[8:15] SPEAKER_04: So it'll be interesting to see, you know, if there's if they've kind of yeah, nailed it with the self-coaching or if um Olav had the magic, the miters touch, as they say, but uh yeah, interesting nonetheless.
[8:29] SPEAKER_01: What's your prediction on that, Apo?
[8:30] SPEAKER_01: Will they be better without Olav Alexander Boo on their team or better with him?
[8:34] SPEAKER_04: I mean, I never want to write off the Norwegians, they've proved time and time again that they're um you know, they're the best.
[8:41] SPEAKER_04: Um, and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Christian, Gustav, and Kasper like sweep the podium.
[8:49] SPEAKER_04: Um but yeah, I think I think they'll all be up there fighting for yeah, definitely top five.
[8:54] SPEAKER_01: And this leads us to our next comment.
[8:56] SPEAKER_01: Jack, Apo, can you give me a one-word answer in quotation marks?
[9:00] SPEAKER_01: Apo proceeds to give a 200-word answer.
[9:02] SPEAKER_01: Hashtag goat fence hitter.
[9:04] SPEAKER_01: Apo, will the Norwegians be better with Olav as their coach or self-coach?
[9:11] SPEAKER_04: Better.
[9:13] SPEAKER_01: There you go, Oliver Steenholt.
[9:15] SPEAKER_01: That one was just for you.
[9:16] SPEAKER_01: Put the pressure on him and you can get him to crack.
[9:18] SPEAKER_01: He's also he's riding that hive coming off the fence with Hayden Wilde and getting us unfollowed on Instagram still.
[9:23] SPEAKER_01: He's wearing that like a badge of honor, don't you worry, in the group chat.
[9:27] SPEAKER_04: It's gone to my head.
[9:28] SPEAKER_04: It's gone to my head.
[9:30] SPEAKER_04: All right, I've got one from Mamoon.
[9:32] SPEAKER_04: I don't understand the hype on Sam Laidlow.
[9:34] SPEAKER_04: 100% can win, he already has, but this season doesn't tell us anything.
[9:39] SPEAKER_04: He won Roth in a field full of pretenders.
[9:43] SPEAKER_04: Fighting words.
[9:44] SPEAKER_04: Take that.
[9:45] SPEAKER_04: And don't get me started on Iron Man Leads, where the strength of field was 45.
[9:50] SPEAKER_04: He dodged the big races.
[9:52] SPEAKER_04: Hot take.
[9:52] SPEAKER_04: If Laidlow was at Frankfurt, he would have finished eighth, and the discussion would be totally different.
[9:57] SPEAKER_04: The guy is world class, but he hasn't shown much this year.
[10:01] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so Apo.
[10:02] SPEAKER_01: In 2023, the year that Sam Laidlow won the Iron Man World Championships on this course in Nice, he also went to challenge London and won that with a strength of field of 76.
[10:14] SPEAKER_01: So lower than either of his strength of fields of the race he won this year.
[10:18] SPEAKER_01: The other race he won that year was Challenge Grand Canaria, and the strength of field of that was 85.
[10:23] SPEAKER_01: Pretty similar.
[10:24] SPEAKER_01: But again, it didn't really have that many big hitters.
[10:27] SPEAKER_01: It had Matthias Margier, Antonio Benito Lopez, Patrick Lang, but Patrick Lang, we know he doesn't do much on the end.
[10:33] SPEAKER_01: That was his best performance of the year.
[10:35] SPEAKER_01: I would say very similar field to Challenge Roth.
[10:38] SPEAKER_01: And then he also went to Challenge Roth in 2023 and he came eighth.
[10:43] SPEAKER_01: Do you guys remember that where he blew up on the marathon?
[10:45] SPEAKER_01: He was kind of good for the swim bike, but then blew up.
[10:48] SPEAKER_01: Magnus, Patrick, Ben Canute, Daniel Backgard, Joe Skipper, Bradley Vice, Jason Paul all beat him.
[10:54] SPEAKER_01: So that's definitely a worse result than his Roth this year.
[10:57] SPEAKER_01: He then DNF'd at Singapore at the PTO Open, which was his last race before the Iron Man World Championships, and he DNF'd at Lanzarote.
[11:04] SPEAKER_01: Remember where he had that like liver issue or something?
[11:06] SPEAKER_01: So I think on paper he had a better year this year winning Roth and Leeds than he did in 2023, and he still managed to win the Iron Man World Championships.
[11:16] SPEAKER_01: So we know with Sam Laidlow it doesn't matter what he's done for the rest of the year.
[11:20] SPEAKER_01: Because last year he won London T-100, which was awesome, and then had that massive run battle with Martin Van Rield in Ibitha a few weeks later and blew up in Kona.
[11:28] SPEAKER_01: So you would have said he'd had a pretty good year up until that point.
[11:31] SPEAKER_01: But Sam Laidlow just gets it right on a day and can be absolutely hit or miss for the rest of the year.
[11:37] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
[11:38] SPEAKER_04: And I mean, the guy knows how to win on this course.
[11:42] SPEAKER_04: The best indicator of his performance this weekend is probably his past performances here.
[11:47] SPEAKER_04: And yeah, like you said, he rocks up to world championship races, the one-day events when it matters, and he usually, like besides Kona last year, where he was having a great race until the run, like he performs on these big stages.
[12:01] SPEAKER_04: So I think you'd be silly to rule him out.
[12:03] SPEAKER_04: I mean, there is a little bit of a question mark around him, but yeah, you you'd be silly to rule out the guy that won it two years ago and has known to peak on these world championship races.
[12:14] SPEAKER_03: Well, and some of those big hitters at the world I mean, Patrick Lang's been similar too.
[12:18] SPEAKER_03: Like he's had years where it was freaking last year, no one's really picking him to win.
[12:22] SPEAKER_03: He just like kind of runs away with it.
[12:24] SPEAKER_03: So, you know, peeking for an Iron Man at the perfect time in the season doesn't mean you have to have this perfect lead up, too.
[12:32] SPEAKER_03: So we can't discount him.
[12:34] SPEAKER_03: He's proved us wrong before.
[12:35] SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do a deep dive on Sam Laido after this as well.
[12:38] SPEAKER_01: So stay tuned for that.
[12:39] SPEAKER_01: Because I think we kind of general consensus might see him as the favorite, but maybe we're gonna debate that in about 15 minutes or so.
[12:46] SPEAKER_03: Alright, Jason Limbert is bringing uh a weird question to the table.
[12:51] SPEAKER_03: I'm not sure I really agree with it, but here we go.
[12:53] SPEAKER_03: With Australia being the undoubtedly the goat triathlon country in the world, do you see a possibility of all three Aussies starting the marathon in the top 10?
[13:02] SPEAKER_03: All very impressive cyclists just depends on the swim deficits.
[13:07] SPEAKER_01: Can I quickly reframe this question a little bit?
[13:09] SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna go off and say that yeah, they probably could, but maybe not.
[13:13] SPEAKER_01: One of them might have a bad day.
[13:14] SPEAKER_01: That's that question answered.
[13:15] SPEAKER_01: Here's the real question.
[13:17] SPEAKER_01: In your opinion, who is the greatest triathlon nation of all time?
[13:23] SPEAKER_01: I think it's probably between Germany, America, and Australia.
[13:28] SPEAKER_01: Great Britain may be up there as well.
[13:29] SPEAKER_01: It's probably those four.
[13:31] SPEAKER_01: In your opinion, one word, who is it?
[13:33] SPEAKER_03: Australia.
[13:34] SPEAKER_03: Great Britain.
[13:36] SPEAKER_01: Australia.
[13:37] SPEAKER_03: Uh Maddie Roo How many um how many Olympic golds do you guys have?
[13:43] SPEAKER_01: Uh we got a few.
[13:47] SPEAKER_01: Maddie Roo asks.
[13:53] SPEAKER_01: Can we please hear more about what Greg's dad does on the internet asking for a friend?
[14:03] SPEAKER_01: Now, Dean Harper, I do apologize yesterday for maybe insinuating that you do some dodgy things with your social media.
[14:11] SPEAKER_01: I don't actually know what he does on the on the internet, but we do have his son here on the podcast.
[14:16] SPEAKER_01: So, Greg, what does Dean Harper actually do on the internet?
[14:20] SPEAKER_03: Um, he reads news headlines and consumes triathlon content.
[14:25] SPEAKER_03: And I think that's about it.
[14:28] SPEAKER_03: It takes him a while to read it.
[14:30] SPEAKER_03: He's gotta put on his glasses.
[14:31] SPEAKER_04: It's all above board, is what Greg's saying.
[14:33] SPEAKER_04: Nothing to worry about.
[14:35] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's obviously some Australian above board.
[14:38] SPEAKER_03: I don't know what that means.
[14:39] SPEAKER_04: Okay, I've got one here from MT Passavento.
[14:44] SPEAKER_04: Germany over Norway is a terrible take.
[14:47] SPEAKER_04: This is going back to yesterday's rankings of the countries.
[14:50] SPEAKER_04: You've got two world champions who are close to their prime shape versus a dude who will blow up on the run, presuming he's talking about Schomburg, and Patrick who might not be even in the top ten based on his year this year.
[15:03] SPEAKER_04: What do you guys think?
[15:05] SPEAKER_03: We we just touched on it.
[15:06] SPEAKER_03: Like, that's such a that's a bad question and a terrible take, if I'm being honest.
[15:10] SPEAKER_03: Like, based on his year last year.
[15:12] SPEAKER_03: I mean, we watched Patrick win the world title last year after a mediocre year, too.
[15:17] SPEAKER_03: So like and there's seven other dudes in Germany who are actually pretty good, so it's actually not a terrible take.
[15:23] SPEAKER_03: Sorry to say MT, you have a terrible take.
[15:27] SPEAKER_01: Okay, Sabrina Crothel.
[15:30] SPEAKER_01: I've sorry if that's wrong.
[15:32] SPEAKER_01: Um TTH is the GOAT, but I'm offended we are pretenders.
[15:37] SPEAKER_01: Are we really all in the same category as Marquart?
[15:40] SPEAKER_01: Also loving the daily pods, keeping me entertained while I pret pretend to train.
[15:44] SPEAKER_01: That's a that is a mad drive by to Matt Marquart there.
[15:48] SPEAKER_01: I don't know why why Sabrina single thing.
[15:51] SPEAKER_04: He's just coping strays.
[15:53] SPEAKER_01: He just kept the drive by there for no reason.
[15:55] SPEAKER_01: Uh, but yes, Sabrina, you're a pretender.
[15:57] SPEAKER_01: Everyone listening is a pretender.
[15:59] SPEAKER_01: Me, Apo, and Harper.
[16:01] SPEAKER_01: Well, actually, Apo's probably not, but me and me and Greg Harper, both pretenders.
[16:04] SPEAKER_01: Uh we're wear it with pride.
[16:07] SPEAKER_04: Okay.
[16:08] SPEAKER_04: I've got one from JWS, which is quite interesting.
[16:11] SPEAKER_04: On behalf of the TTH community, I demanded deep dive on the athlete from French Polynesia.
[16:17] SPEAKER_04: Where does he train?
[16:18] SPEAKER_04: How did he manage to hone his bike skills for a hundred and eighty kilometer time trial in the middle of the Pacific?
[16:24] SPEAKER_04: Now, we actually read this question and we were intrigued ourselves.
[16:29] SPEAKER_04: So we did a little bit of digging on this athlete.
[16:32] SPEAKER_01: And um his athlete being Benjamin Zorgonotti, by the way.
[16:35] SPEAKER_04: Yes, thank you, Jack.
[16:36] SPEAKER_04: He um so we qualified at IMAN New Zealand uh with the fastest swim.
[16:42] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, look out for him.
[16:44] SPEAKER_04: He could be uh could be in in that front group.
[16:47] SPEAKER_04: Um and yeah, fourth place.
[16:49] SPEAKER_04: And we also raced him at Oceanside, Greg.
[16:51] SPEAKER_04: Um I don't have much recollection of racing him there.
[16:55] SPEAKER_04: Did you uh did you see him out on course?
[16:57] SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, I mean I saw him as he probably passed me on the bike.
[17:00] SPEAKER_03: I mean, I saw everyone appa.
[17:02] SPEAKER_03: I was first out of the water and got 33rd place.
[17:05] SPEAKER_03: And yeah, you know, I I it's funny because he he he's ranked 149 in the world.
[17:12] SPEAKER_03: Uh 14th place at Oceanside, 17th place at Iron Man, some European name I cannot um pronounce.
[17:19] SPEAKER_03: Um I'm looking at his uh Instagram right now.
[17:21] SPEAKER_03: So he he says he's from Tahiti, which is you know one of the islands in the French Polynesia, and uh that's kind of all I know about the guy.
[17:28] SPEAKER_03: I might have to give him that Instagram follow.
[17:30] SPEAKER_01: Isn't it funny how close you both were to greatness on that day in Oceanside?
[17:34] SPEAKER_01: And you didn't even realize you had no idea that greatness was that close to you.
[17:39] SPEAKER_01: A fun fact about Benjamin Zorgnotti is he actually has his own Wikipedia page.
[17:44] SPEAKER_01: So this is very helpful, and I'll read to you exactly what the Wikipedia page says.
[17:50] SPEAKER_01: Benjamin Zorgnotti, born 26th of September 1994, is a French Polynesian triathlete and long distance runner who has represented French Polynesia at the Pacific Games and Pacific mini games.
[18:02] SPEAKER_01: Zorgnotti was born in Toulon in France and trained in engineering.
[18:07] SPEAKER_01: He has been doing triathlon since he was six years old.
[18:10] SPEAKER_01: He worked for Airbus in Toulouse before focusing on triathlon full time.
[18:15] SPEAKER_01: At 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, he won silver.
[18:19] SPEAKER_01: At the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, he won gold in the triathlon and aquathon.
[18:24] SPEAKER_01: Wow, gold medalist uh in the same category as Jan Fredino.
[18:27] SPEAKER_01: In June 2022, he came 12th at the African Triton Cup at the 2022 Pacific minigames in Saipan, he won gold in the 5,000 metres half marathon triathon and aquaton.
[18:39] SPEAKER_01: He won four gold medals in four different events.
[18:42] SPEAKER_01: This guy's a beast.
[18:43] SPEAKER_01: I reckon, like, let's just make it official right now that Benjamin Zorgonotti, he is our favorite athlete on the Trithon hour.
[18:51] SPEAKER_01: Like, he is the cult hero of the Triton hour from now on, and everyone on the weekend just has to follow Benjamin Zorgonotti and see how he goes.
[18:59] SPEAKER_01: Like, let's just get around him.
[19:01] SPEAKER_03: I love it.
[19:02] SPEAKER_03: You know, he's he's underrated, but he won't be after this weekend.
[19:05] SPEAKER_01: And everyone go and follow him on Instagram, Benjamin Z O R G N O T T I.
[19:12] SPEAKER_01: Go and follow him and just make him be like, why do I have like 500 new followers out of nowhere?
[19:17] SPEAKER_01: What has happened yet?
[19:18] SPEAKER_01: It'll be super funny.
[19:20] SPEAKER_01: So please go and follow Benjamin Zorgnotti on Instagram.
[19:26] SPEAKER_03: Friend of the show.
[19:28] SPEAKER_03: Um, okay, my comment.
[19:30] SPEAKER_03: Longtime pretender, first time commenter.
[19:33] SPEAKER_03: Why isn't Apo at Nice?
[19:35] SPEAKER_03: I thought old guys were meant to transition to Iron Man.
[19:39] SPEAKER_03: And we have a sub comment.
[19:40] SPEAKER_03: A 20 time 70.3 champion knows his strengths.
[19:43] SPEAKER_03: By the way, that was Scott Gibson.
[19:45] SPEAKER_03: Thanks for the first comment.
[19:46] SPEAKER_03: SSB made that next one.
[19:48] SPEAKER_03: And our very own, the late Justin Reale comments, he prefers to beat up on the little guys here in the USA.
[19:56] SPEAKER_04: So is that Justin admitting that he's a little guy?
[19:59] SPEAKER_04: Is that uh is that a self-admission, Justin?
[20:02] SPEAKER_04: Surprising from him, eh guys?
[20:06] SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, I mean, I qualified for Nice.
[20:09] SPEAKER_04: Um, I decided not to go.
[20:11] SPEAKER_04: It's just not a race, I think, that suits me.
[20:14] SPEAKER_04: And um, yeah, I mean, training for an Iron Man is hard and it's uh yeah.
[20:21] SPEAKER_04: I just don't I didn't think I had had it in me to train for an Iron Man and race at the level that I wanted to race at.
[20:28] SPEAKER_04: Um so yeah, I'm all kind of going in on next year for uh for Kona.
[20:32] SPEAKER_04: Um so I'm gonna do an Iron Man at the end of the year and yeah, I just wanted to focus on kind of keeping it a little bit closer to home and race some uh yeah, in North America, do some 70.3s and uh pick on the little guys a little bit.
[20:46] SPEAKER_03: No, build that confidence for next year.
[20:47] SPEAKER_03: Now, can I just ask you one question, Napo?
[20:50] SPEAKER_03: When did you make this decision not to go to Nice?
[20:52] SPEAKER_03: And like it seems like maybe you're having a better year than you had originally thought.
[20:56] SPEAKER_03: I mean, there were some talks of retirement at the beginning of the year for you.
[20:59] SPEAKER_03: So like give us like a 30-second snapshot of like how it's evolved, and now you seem like you're gung-ho for Kona next year.
[21:05] SPEAKER_04: Well, yeah, at the start of the year, I just kind of looked at the calendar and I kind of wanted to pick races that suited me and suited my strengths, and um yeah, I think I've always naturally preferred the 70.3 distance over the Iron Man distance.
[21:17] SPEAKER_04: It's um Iron Man takes a lot out of my body, and training for an Iron Man and preparing for one is hard.
[21:24] SPEAKER_04: And historically I've been an athlete that thrives on lower volume.
[21:28] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I kind of just looked at the calendar and was racing to my strengths and yeah, picking races that I thought I could do well at.
[21:36] SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, because it is I am running a business at the end of the day, you know.
[21:39] SPEAKER_04: I need to have value for my sponsors for myself and um earn a living.
[21:44] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, I mean it there's definitely a financial aspect to it as well as a kind of yeah, physical one as well.
[21:51] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, a lot goes into the planning of the season, and yeah, I just planned it kind of around my strengths and races that I thought I could do well at.
[21:58] SPEAKER_01: Espin Wagner.
[22:00] SPEAKER_01: Comments.
[22:00] SPEAKER_01: Awesome with the daily pods.
[22:02] SPEAKER_01: Seems like Jack has completely written off Christian Blumenfeld.
[22:05] SPEAKER_01: I think that's a big mistake.
[22:07] SPEAKER_01: He hates losing and was really pissed after Kona last year.
[22:10] SPEAKER_01: He looks fit, hungry, and fast.
[22:13] SPEAKER_01: Hope Patrick is with is with him in T2, so we get to see the run battle of ages.
[22:18] SPEAKER_01: I didn't I don't think I had fully written him off.
[22:20] SPEAKER_01: I was questioning is he fit or fucked?
[22:22] SPEAKER_01: Is he has he been um losing a bit of weight for the race?
[22:25] SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna go out a lim out on a limb and give a strong opinion here.
[22:28] SPEAKER_01: I am ruling Christian Blumenfeld out for winning this race on the weekend.
[22:33] SPEAKER_04: Ooh.
[22:35] SPEAKER_04: That is a serious statement.
[22:40] SPEAKER_04: I think Christian's gonna win.
[22:42] SPEAKER_04: I think he's fooling everyone.
[22:43] SPEAKER_04: He's in the form of his life, and he's gonna win.
[22:47] SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna stay right on the fence and say, I don't know, guys.
[22:50] SPEAKER_03: We'll see when comes race day.
[22:55] SPEAKER_03: Now, speaking of fence sitting, Tom Murphy says there's a massive fence built in the middle of TTH this week, and it's made of potential top 10 finishers.
[23:05] SPEAKER_03: Get off the fence, Jack.
[23:07] SPEAKER_03: Predict a top 10 with 10 people, not 50.
[23:11] SPEAKER_01: I'm just not predicting the top 10.
[23:13] SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're gonna talk about the guy who I think's gonna win the race next, though.
[23:17] SPEAKER_01: So I'll give you that.
[23:18] SPEAKER_01: But top 10, I don't know.
[23:20] SPEAKER_01: I also I read this comment, Greg, and I went back and I like I went back and look listened over the episodes while I went for a run and a couple of walks around Nice this morning, and I have said the least amount of people that could finish top ten.
[23:32] SPEAKER_01: Greg's actually said the most.
[23:34] SPEAKER_01: Papo's number two, and I'm number three.
[23:36] SPEAKER_01: So, what was the guy's name who commented again, Greg?
[23:38] SPEAKER_03: Uh Tom Murphy.
[23:40] SPEAKER_03: Enemy of the show.
[23:43] SPEAKER_01: I could go hard here, Tom, but get your facts straight.
[23:47] SPEAKER_01: Okay.
[23:47] SPEAKER_01: Alex Lee Walmsley, long time pretender.
[23:50] SPEAKER_01: Love that.
[23:51] SPEAKER_01: Loving this week's pods and hoping we get the same come to Kona time.
[23:55] SPEAKER_01: Oh, we're getting it's a big week.
[23:56] SPEAKER_01: I think by Kona we could be back in the mood, but right now we're uh we're all getting a bit tired.
[24:01] SPEAKER_01: You've made it much easier to get up early and drive to the pool this whole week so I can listen.
[24:05] SPEAKER_01: Are you guys watching every second of the swim coverage?
[24:09] SPEAKER_01: Uh, or are you waking up 30 minutes later and skipping through some of it?
[24:13] SPEAKER_01: Maybe I'm just a bad swimmer who doesn't know what I'm looking at.
[24:16] SPEAKER_01: It's funny you ask this, Alex, because when one when we finished the recording of day four yesterday, we literally had this exact same conversation once we hit stop stop on the recording.
[24:26] SPEAKER_01: So what are you guys gonna do?
[24:27] SPEAKER_04: Well, it's the middle of the night for me.
[24:29] SPEAKER_04: I think it starts at 10 o'clock and we'll run through to 7 a.m.
[24:34] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, the timing is pretty rough.
[24:37] SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm probably gonna wake up maybe at like 3 or 4 a.m.
[24:41] SPEAKER_04: and just watch the last three hours.
[24:43] SPEAKER_04: Um so I'll probably catch the tail end of the bike and the run.
[24:46] SPEAKER_04: Um, I'm not committed enough to stay up all night and watch uh watch the race, but uh yeah, I'll probably wake up, flip flick through the swim and the bike, um, you know, fast forward a little bit and then jump in when they hit the marathon.
[25:02] SPEAKER_03: I'm still on the fence a lot of that today.
[25:05] SPEAKER_03: If I'm gonna wake up.
[25:06] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, it's like 12.30 or 1 for me.
[25:08] SPEAKER_03: I I see I like watching the swim.
[25:10] SPEAKER_03: I really like watching the dynamics, and I hate it when they like cut away from the swim because I'm I'm very interested in seeing like who's shuffling around and who's leading.
[25:18] SPEAKER_03: Not that they would appropriately call the person who's leading, but I think I'll probably get up early and try to catch it or wake up early and watch the race on delay without going on my phone, which is how I and then I can't text Jack, but maybe I can kind of catch up, and that seems to be a good move for me.
[25:35] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll watch every second of the entire race like I do every race, and I'll I'll message everyone about it because I'm a like unashamed nerd who kind of just if I if I'm in bed, I'll just like be awake anyway, wondering what's happened.
[25:49] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, I'll watch it all.
[25:50] SPEAKER_01: Uh if you want to message me about the race, shoot shoot the triathon hour uh or my personal Instagram uh DM and I'll get back to you because I like talking about it.
[25:57] SPEAKER_01: Uh Bowen B comments, are we going to get Jack's body analysis of Jarn Fredino's latest post?
[26:05] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so um it's not his latest post anymore, it's now his second latest post.
[26:09] SPEAKER_01: If you want to go over to Instagram, search Jan Fredino and get it up.
[26:12] SPEAKER_01: I I'll do a little bit of a uh of an analysis here.
[26:16] SPEAKER_01: Okay, so the first slide, we have Jarn Fredino, shirt off, board shorts on, rise and hat on.
[26:22] SPEAKER_01: In his right hand, he's holding a stand-up paddle board.
[26:25] SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then he's kind of looking at his watch.
[26:28] SPEAKER_01: So it's it's a little bit of a watch promotion, but he's also just saying, hey, look at me, I'm casual.
[26:33] SPEAKER_01: The point of this post isn't me with my fake tanned body and like 15 pack.
[26:38] SPEAKER_01: It's just that I'm looking at the watch, I'm an outdoorsy guy.
[26:41] SPEAKER_01: And then the next slide, it's uh Jan standing up on the paddleboard, kind of being like, Look at me, I'm a fit ripped dude in retirement.
[26:49] SPEAKER_01: I still do outdoorsy things.
[26:50] SPEAKER_01: I live in the mountains.
[26:51] SPEAKER_01: Look how rich and luxurious my lifestyle is and how shredded I am.
[26:55] SPEAKER_01: The next slide, the next slide, it's a close-up of the watch, but really it's not, it's nothing to do with the watch.
[27:01] SPEAKER_01: It's look how veiny my arms are that have the watch on them.
[27:05] SPEAKER_01: My body fat is as low as ever, lower than yours.
[27:07] SPEAKER_01: I'm a contender, you're a pretender.
[27:09] SPEAKER_01: The next one, a zoomed out kind of shot of yarn, mid-paddle on the paddle board, biceps, triceps, both looking massive, showing, hey, I've also been going to the gym.
[27:20] SPEAKER_01: And once again, look at me.
[27:21] SPEAKER_01: I live a rich, luxurious life on the lake, mountains in the background.
[27:25] SPEAKER_01: I'm better than you.
[27:26] SPEAKER_01: And then the next slide, it's just a full big shot of that lake to once again just reinforce how good my lifestyle is.
[27:33] SPEAKER_01: That's my analysis of Jan Fredino's latest Instagram post.
[27:36] SPEAKER_04: It's just not fair, is it?
[27:37] SPEAKER_04: I mean, my wife's on Instagram.
[27:39] SPEAKER_04: Come on, Jan, she can't be seeing that and then looking at me.
[27:44] SPEAKER_04: All right.
[27:45] SPEAKER_04: There is a lot of comments about uh where is Ari Clau?
[27:50] SPEAKER_04: And I mean, I don't want to think about how many email addresses Ari has had to set up to leave these comments.
[27:57] SPEAKER_04: But um, you know, people want justice for Ari, but I think the truth is that he's not allowed back on the pod until he can secure his first 70.3 podium.
[28:08] SPEAKER_04: So, you know, you might be waiting a little bit while.
[28:11] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's 100% true, Apo.
[28:13] SPEAKER_01: Um, Justin got banned because he ate on a Patreon podcast.
[28:16] SPEAKER_01: So it was so annoying and it pissed so many people off that we said, we can't have you on anymore, Justin.
[28:21] SPEAKER_01: And then Ari, he's got banned because he just like he was just caring too much about the podcast.
[28:26] SPEAKER_01: He wasn't training, he was sleeping in late, and we said, This isn't good for you.
[28:30] SPEAKER_01: You need to go up, you need to go back to the drawing board, you need to wake up early, you need to put in the work.
[28:35] SPEAKER_01: And until you do that, you're not welcome back on the podcast.
[28:38] SPEAKER_01: So, Justin, he needs to uh he needs to have a look in the mirror, and he's got a lot of him in his house and just evaluate some of his actions.
[28:45] SPEAKER_01: And Ari just needs to get better.
[28:47] SPEAKER_01: So if they do that, they'll be welcome back.
[28:50] SPEAKER_01: Okay, boys, let's move on.
[28:51] SPEAKER_01: And by the way, thank you so much for all of your comments.
[28:54] SPEAKER_01: We've been like overwhelmed by how many of you commented the last two days on the Spotify.
[28:59] SPEAKER_01: We send messages about it in the group chat.
[29:00] SPEAKER_01: We think it's awesome.
[29:01] SPEAKER_01: We think so many of the comments are funny.
[29:03] SPEAKER_01: We haven't read a few today because we thought a few were controversial.
[29:06] SPEAKER_01: So keep the controversial ones coming.
[29:07] SPEAKER_01: And if we don't read them out, just know that we laugh about them on the group chat and discuss them there.
[29:12] SPEAKER_01: Uh if you want to have your comments or questions or any of your thoughts, statements, whatever it is, uh read out on the podcast tomorrow for us to talk about, then comment them on this episode.
[29:23] SPEAKER_01: And uh, yeah, if it's good enough, we'll we'll uh we'll we'll talk about it exactly like we did the ones today and yesterday.
[29:29] SPEAKER_01: Our next topic, though, it's Sam Laidlow.
[29:31] SPEAKER_01: So he's kind of our last big hitter that we haven't done a deep dive on before the race.
[29:37] SPEAKER_01: He was the champion here last time.
[29:39] SPEAKER_01: He led off the bike last year in Kona.
[29:41] SPEAKER_01: He came second the year before that at Kona.
[29:43] SPEAKER_01: I see him as the big favorite.
[29:45] SPEAKER_01: That's why I've left him till last.
[29:46] SPEAKER_01: What do you guys think about that statement?
[29:50] SPEAKER_04: I mean, we touched on it earlier.
[29:51] SPEAKER_04: I do think there's some question marks.
[29:53] SPEAKER_04: Like, how fit has he been able to get?
[29:56] SPEAKER_04: I know he said he won Roth on a with a CTL of 115.
[30:02] SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, I know CTL isn't everything, but for Iron Man, it is a pretty good measure of fitness.
[30:08] SPEAKER_04: Um, and 115 is quite a low CTL for someone like Sam, who I'm presuming probably gets up to close to like 160 to 180 for his world championship races.
[30:19] SPEAKER_04: So it depends how much he's been able to train and if that kind of fatigue that he was having, that um underexplained or unexplained underperformance has left him, or is he still carrying a little bit of that?
[30:31] SPEAKER_04: And has he been able to get the training in required?
[30:34] SPEAKER_04: Because we know Roth and Leeds, you know, this is another step up.
[30:38] SPEAKER_04: Iron Man World Championships, you can't come in with any weaknesses.
[30:41] SPEAKER_04: So yeah, there is some question marks from from my end.
[30:44] SPEAKER_04: I don't I wouldn't put him as my favorite, but I would definitely put him up there in the top three.
[30:50] SPEAKER_01: And for those playing at home, Apo, CTL, it's just an acronym for chronic training load or critical training load.
[30:57] SPEAKER_01: And it's just a measure basically of how much you've trained.
[31:00] SPEAKER_01: So it takes into account like um volume, duration, intensity, all of that.
[31:05] SPEAKER_01: And the higher the number, the more you've been doing, basically.
[31:08] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's your average T it's your average daily TSS of the last six weeks, I think, if I've got that right.
[31:15] SPEAKER_04: Yep.
[31:15] SPEAKER_04: Um, so yeah, and I mean the higher it is, the more training you've obviously done.
[31:20] SPEAKER_04: And while it's just a number and an algorithm, it doesn't mean everything, it is a pretty good gauge of how much volume you've been doing.
[31:27] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and like they'll always tell you that CTL isn't technically like it ha it actually isn't a measure of fitness, it's just purely a measure of consistency, duration, and intensity of your training, and that your body's response to training isn't directly correlated with it.
[31:44] SPEAKER_01: But we know, and it's it's just been so proven time and time again, that generally speaking, if you're training more harder, and consistently, you're gonna be better, aren't you?
[31:53] SPEAKER_03: Yes, exactly.
[31:54] SPEAKER_03: Yep.
[31:55] SPEAKER_03: I think your statements a a big favorite.
[31:58] SPEAKER_03: I don't know if he's a big favorite, but he's a favorite, right?
[32:01] SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's uh there's kind of four of them, is what we talked about.
[32:04] SPEAKER_03: I mean, maybe five, but you just can't discount him.
[32:08] SPEAKER_03: You know, if Sam wins, no one will be surprised.
[32:11] SPEAKER_03: He's not, you know, his uh sickness at the earlier of the year, you know, we had some questioning if it was legit or not.
[32:18] SPEAKER_03: Um it seems like it was, but it seems like he's been in a good groove since Iron Man Leeds too.
[32:23] SPEAKER_03: And he obviously knows how to prepare for the big stage, and he steps up.
[32:28] SPEAKER_03: You know, I mean not let's not forget, he rode 357 at Kona last year.
[32:32] SPEAKER_03: Did he overbike?
[32:33] SPEAKER_03: Potentially, but that's insane considering the the the course record was like 404 from WOREF, and then it was like 401 from Laylo, and then now he's going 357.
[32:44] SPEAKER_03: So he's been stepping up his game, and look for him to no doubt be on the podium tomorrow or on Sunday.
[32:51] SPEAKER_01: And he forwent his T100 contract this year to go all in on the Iron Man World Championships as well, because clearly he felt like last year doing T100 and winning the Iron Man World Championships don't go hand in hand.
[33:03] SPEAKER_01: Whereas this year, like we talked about earlier in the Spotify comments, is that it's pretty similar to what he did in 2023.
[33:10] SPEAKER_01: It may be it might be a little bit better and he's raced a little less, but it's kind of similar.
[33:16] SPEAKER_01: Do we think that him being fresher, not having raced as much is a good thing, or do you think that he's going in a little underdone?
[33:24] SPEAKER_04: No, I think Yeah, I mean, you see people just peak for these single-day events, like Patrick's done it, um, Jan used to do it, like Jarn used to barely race as well.
[33:35] SPEAKER_04: And you know, I don't think you need to race a ton to be great at the world championships.
[33:41] SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, and Sam has proven that he does know what it takes on these single-day events.
[33:46] SPEAKER_04: I mean, my question to you guys does he need to come into T2 alone by himself with a gap in order to win this, or can he win this on the run if he comes in with other people?
[34:01] SPEAKER_03: I think he can win it on the run.
[34:03] SPEAKER_03: I mean, if he comes in with Magnus per se, I think he could outrun Magnus.
[34:08] SPEAKER_03: I also think Magnus could outrun him, too.
[34:10] SPEAKER_03: So I think both of those guys would probably back their run, though.
[34:13] SPEAKER_03: I mean, unless the training hasn't gone well.
[34:15] SPEAKER_03: I think Sam's Sam's going out there probably in his mind.
[34:18] SPEAKER_03: He's like, if I can run 234, I'm winning this race no matter what, right?
[34:24] SPEAKER_03: I mean, it seems like that would be his mindset.
[34:25] SPEAKER_03: He's not like, hey, let me run 240 and and win this in six minutes off the bike.
[34:29] SPEAKER_03: He's like, I'll get four minutes, save a bit, and if I can run 234, no one's gonna touch me.
[34:35] SPEAKER_03: So I'd that would be my mindset if I were Sam too.
[34:39] SPEAKER_03: Like continue to work on your strength, but get that run dial down.
[34:43] SPEAKER_03: I think he will he'll back himself.
[34:44] SPEAKER_03: I mean, I think champions do.
[34:45] SPEAKER_03: Can you really have an can you really win an Iron Man World Champ if you don't think you can like win a head-to-head run battle?
[34:51] SPEAKER_03: I mean, you have to have confidence there.
[34:53] SPEAKER_01: I think that he can beat quite a lot of people who could come into T2 with him.
[34:57] SPEAKER_01: I think, like Greg just said, a showdown between Magnus and Laidlow on the run coming into T2 together would be the best.
[35:05] SPEAKER_01: I don't know if there's a better outcome for the race than that.
[35:08] SPEAKER_01: That is about as fun as it gets because they would both back each other, I think.
[35:12] SPEAKER_01: I think Magnus would be more confident, but I think Laidlow would be all like not far off, like pretty confident that he could beat him as well.
[35:19] SPEAKER_01: I think he could beat Jonas Schomberg on the run, although Jonas would would probably like take a lead early, and it would be Laidlow having to catch up as Jonas fades.
[35:28] SPEAKER_01: I think he could beat Martin Van Riel, like not all the time, but on this day, I think he could because I think Martin's run volume has been quite low, although that's a battle I'd love to see.
[35:40] SPEAKER_01: I think he could beat Cam Worth, I think he could beat uh Matt Marquart.
[35:44] SPEAKER_01: I don't think he could beat Christian, Gustav or Patrick Lang if they're at their best.
[35:50] SPEAKER_01: They're kind of the three who could be somewhere in the vicinity.
[35:53] SPEAKER_01: I think he's he's probably got a good battle on his hands with Leon Chevalier and Rudy Von Berg.
[35:58] SPEAKER_01: So I don't just see his avenue to win coming into T2 by himself.
[36:03] SPEAKER_01: However, I do think that's what he's going to try and do.
[36:06] SPEAKER_01: I think at some point Sam Laidlow is going to try and turn the screws a little bit on the bike and and ride away with it and come into T2 by himself.
[36:14] SPEAKER_01: Because even though it's not the only way I think he can win it, it's the easiest way for him to win it.
[36:19] SPEAKER_04: He's a confidence athlete, right?
[36:21] SPEAKER_04: He he thrives on getting that gap on the bike.
[36:25] SPEAKER_04: I think the once he builds that momentum, he's very hard to beat.
[36:30] SPEAKER_04: I think he wants that gap.
[36:31] SPEAKER_04: He wants to put everyone under pressure, and I think that's when he races his best, when he's off the front doing his own thing.
[36:38] SPEAKER_04: So I think he does want to get off the bike by himself.
[36:41] SPEAKER_04: It's just whether or not other people are gonna go with him and yeah, he's gonna tow in, you know, a Schomburg or somebody else into T2.
[36:49] SPEAKER_03: Well, he and you said he he thrives on that kind of confidence and aggressive style racing.
[36:53] SPEAKER_03: He said in an interview that I saw, he's like, I'm I'm going under eight hours, whether it's enough to win or not.
[36:59] SPEAKER_03: So I mean that's six and a half minutes faster than his last year.
[37:03] SPEAKER_03: Where does that come from?
[37:04] SPEAKER_03: I mean, where do you think that would come from in his race for him to execute and have the best race?
[37:09] SPEAKER_03: You think it's mostly on the run?
[37:11] SPEAKER_03: You think it's a minute on the bike, five minutes on the run?
[37:13] SPEAKER_03: I mean, where does he find that time?
[37:15] SPEAKER_01: I think he finds it everywhere, Greg.
[37:16] SPEAKER_01: I think they swim faster.
[37:18] SPEAKER_01: I think the swim will be fast this year, maybe like 30 seconds to 90 seconds, somewhere in that vicinity.
[37:23] SPEAKER_01: So he'll get he'll get a little bit back there.
[37:25] SPEAKER_01: I think he fully expects himself to run faster because he had a very he like so think of the course as like four laps.
[37:31] SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's out, back, out, back.
[37:34] SPEAKER_01: Think of them as four different stretches.
[37:35] SPEAKER_01: He was very good for three and he struggled on the way back home from the airport to the finish line.
[37:40] SPEAKER_01: So I think he sees a very easy avenue to gain two, three, four minutes on the marathon.
[37:46] SPEAKER_01: And I think on the ride, I think he's better now.
[37:49] SPEAKER_01: He was crazy good in 2023, but I just think about what he did at London and Kona last year and Roth this year.
[37:55] SPEAKER_01: I just I think he's better.
[37:56] SPEAKER_01: So I think um I think he'll make it up everywhere, and I think he might have more company this year as well.
[38:02] SPEAKER_01: He had Clement Ming Yong, who kind of made the move in 2023.
[38:05] SPEAKER_01: Sam went with it, and then Sam attacked Clement as Clement blew up.
[38:09] SPEAKER_01: But I think this year he could have Jonas Schomburg doing suicidal things and Martin Van Riel there as well, and you know, maybe our boy Benjamin Zorgnotti will give him a pull at some point as well and and help him break that course record.
[38:23] SPEAKER_03: 100%.
[38:24] SPEAKER_03: Well, we kind of talked about his keys to victory, and his I guess potential threats to him not winning are just some guys too close off the bike, right?
[38:32] SPEAKER_03: I mean, the Patricks, the Christians, the Gustavs.
[38:35] SPEAKER_03: I mean, he just needs kind of a buffer on those guys.
[38:37] SPEAKER_03: But you know, if he's at the front of the race with a bit of a buffer, even with those guys, he's gonna be in the money and in the hunt.
[38:44] SPEAKER_03: And uh the champions, if you've won before, do you think that makes it easier to win again?
[38:50] SPEAKER_03: Like you're like, hey, I've done this before, I can win.
[38:52] SPEAKER_03: Like, do you think you have a mental edge over someone, or is that person who's gotten second or third, are they like hungrier to take the top step?
[38:59] SPEAKER_04: I mean, he knows what it takes to win, right?
[39:02] SPEAKER_04: So I wouldn't say coming second or third makes you hungry.
[39:06] SPEAKER_04: I think everyone's as hungry as e each other.
[39:09] SPEAKER_04: But Sam knows what it takes to win, and he has shown that he doesn't really have a weakness.
[39:15] SPEAKER_04: Yes, he's not as strong as Patrick or Christian or Gustav on the run, but he's still a great runner.
[39:21] SPEAKER_04: And it wouldn't surprise me to see him running that mid-230s.
[39:25] SPEAKER_04: It just depends how big is that gap to those Uber runners.
[39:28] SPEAKER_04: He probably needs five minutes, I would think, at least, on someone like Christian and Patrick.
[39:34] SPEAKER_04: It just depends if the yeah, chips play in his favour.
[39:39] SPEAKER_01: I think that the the like the potential threats to him not winning this race come from the people behind working together.
[39:46] SPEAKER_01: So there's so many strong cyclists now.
[39:49] SPEAKER_01: I think the gap between the best and the worst is smaller than what it was in 2023.
[39:54] SPEAKER_01: And I think in 2023 Sam Lalo took advantage of a time where he was by far the best cyclist on that day.
[40:02] SPEAKER_01: I think his gap between um, let's say he has the fastest bike split.
[40:05] SPEAKER_01: I don't think he'll have as big a gap to second as what he did in 2023.
[40:10] SPEAKER_01: And I do think a lot of that chase group coming from behind are just strong now, like Hogan Hagen and Wirth and Lange and Marquatt and Von Berg.
[40:19] SPEAKER_01: There's just so many strong cyclists that could work together.
[40:22] SPEAKER_01: And if they do work together, and a few of them, like say if Gustav and Christian are in there as well, then they just become more threats, I think, because they get to save some energy at certain places, but like up on that plateau, it's a long, straight drag where if you're at 10 metres, it actually does really help, and it goes for quite a long time, and then that takes you into the descent.
[40:40] SPEAKER_01: So I think the like groups behind him are his threat.
[40:44] SPEAKER_01: And yeah, like like we've all said, if Patrick Lang's within striking distance, if Christian and Gustav are within striking distance, yeah, that makes even Magnus Dittlib.
[40:52] SPEAKER_01: I think that makes his day tough.
[40:54] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, for me, I think he's uh in my opinion, he's the number one favorite.
[40:58] SPEAKER_01: If there was a betting market for this race, I think he would be the odds-on favorite.
[41:02] SPEAKER_01: But the groups behind could have a lot to say.
[41:07] SPEAKER_01: The single hardest thing about training is being consistent.
[41:10] SPEAKER_01: And there's nothing more frustrating than when you want to be consistent or you've finally found some consistency and you get yet another running-related injury like Achilles pain, a stress fractural reaction, runner's knee, or some plantar fasciitis.
[41:23] SPEAKER_01: That's exactly where lever can help.
[41:25] SPEAKER_01: Lever is a tool that allows you to keep training while reducing impact so you can recover, rebuild, and stay on track with your running.
[41:32] SPEAKER_01: Lever is a bodyweight support system that attaches to your treadmill and can remove up to 45 pounds or 20 kilos of your body weight while you run.
[41:40] SPEAKER_01: By reducing impact, it helps you train through little niggly injuries, safely rebuild after some time off running, and increase your mileage without fear of breaking down.
[41:50] SPEAKER_01: And it's not just for rehabbing, although that is a great use for it, it's also a tool for performance.
[41:55] SPEAKER_01: What many people don't know is that seven of the top 11 women at the 2024 Iron Man World Championships used Lever to train and recover in the lead up to the race, including the world champion.
[42:07] SPEAKER_01: Lever is lightweight, it's portable, and connects with a digital scale so you can dial in exactly how much load you want to take off while you run.
[42:15] SPEAKER_01: Exclusive to the triath on our listeners, you can use the code TTH to get you 20% off your lever system.
[42:23] SPEAKER_01: Um, to do that, just visit levermovement.com and start running smarter today.
[42:28] SPEAKER_01: Get consistent in your running.
[42:30] SPEAKER_01: It's the main thing that will get you running faster.
[42:35] SPEAKER_04: All right, shall we move on to topic number three?
[42:39] SPEAKER_04: We did have this question in the Spotify comments, and funnily enough, we already had something like this planned.
[42:45] SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna do a bit of a a bingo card or a or a yes-no.
[42:49] SPEAKER_04: So you guys, I'm gonna ask you some questions, and we can just say either yes or no, or if you guys wanted to stop and chat on it a little bit, we can.
[42:58] SPEAKER_01: And before you start, Apo, what we want is for you guys to play along at home as we do it.
[43:03] SPEAKER_01: So Apo's gonna ask a question.
[43:05] SPEAKER_01: They're Apo's non-fence sitting questions, so you're not allowed to sit on the fence with any of your answers while you're playing along.
[43:10] SPEAKER_01: And Apo will answer a question.
[43:12] SPEAKER_01: We have to give a yes or no.
[43:14] SPEAKER_01: We might discuss a few of them, but maybe we won't.
[43:17] SPEAKER_01: And then we'll wait and see what happens on the weekend and we'll come back and revisit it.
[43:21] SPEAKER_04: All right, here we go.
[43:22] SPEAKER_04: So we'll go um Greg first, then Jack, and then I'll answer.
[43:25] SPEAKER_04: So we'll go one, two, three.
[43:27] SPEAKER_04: All right, let's start off with the swim.
[43:29] SPEAKER_04: Lead swim group is eight people or less.
[43:33] SPEAKER_04: Greg?
[43:34] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[43:35] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[43:36] SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say yes as well.
[43:38] SPEAKER_04: Christian Blumenfeld is one of those eight.
[43:41] SPEAKER_04: No.
[43:42] SPEAKER_01: No.
[43:44] SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say yes.
[43:47] SPEAKER_01: You could just you could literally hear Apo trying to sit on the fence then, and he just he you could literally hear, he's like, This is my statement.
[43:55] SPEAKER_01: I can't sit on the fence, I can't sit on the fence, I can't sit on the fence.
[43:57] SPEAKER_01: He was fighting with that.
[43:58] SPEAKER_01: Well done, Apo.
[44:00] SPEAKER_04: Jonas Schomberg drops everyone in T1, so he's obviously going to be in that group of eight, and he gets to the main climb alone.
[44:08] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[44:09] SPEAKER_01: No, but great question.
[44:11] SPEAKER_04: I'm going to say yes.
[44:13] SPEAKER_04: He's going to just send it.
[44:14] SPEAKER_04: He's going for it, baby.
[44:21] SPEAKER_03: No.
[44:22] SPEAKER_03: Laido's going to put on socks and Schumberg.
[44:24] SPEAKER_03: You know, he's a T1 guard, dude.
[44:27] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's a T1 guard.
[44:29] SPEAKER_04: He's going to drop a 230 kilometer and uh and just go for it.
[44:33] SPEAKER_01: He's been doing it his whole life.
[44:34] SPEAKER_01: Wow, yeah.
[44:35] SPEAKER_01: Love that.
[44:36] SPEAKER_01: That's going to be really interesting to follow.
[44:38] SPEAKER_04: Matthew Marquart will cramp in T1.
[44:41] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[44:43] SPEAKER_01: No, I think he I think this is the day.
[44:46] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[44:49] SPEAKER_04: Leon Chevalier's chance to win the race will be over after his swim deficit.
[44:55] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[44:57] SPEAKER_04: Oh yes.
[45:00] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[45:01] SPEAKER_04: His chance to win.
[45:03] SPEAKER_04: I still think he can get on the podium.
[45:06] SPEAKER_04: Same outfit.
[45:07] SPEAKER_04: Alright, I got a I got a couple of over-unders.
[45:10] SPEAKER_04: Sam Long's gap out of the water will be over or under six minutes.
[45:16] SPEAKER_04: Under.
[45:18] SPEAKER_01: Uh over.
[45:20] SPEAKER_01: Or under.
[45:22] SPEAKER_04: I'm going to say under as well.
[45:24] SPEAKER_04: Cam Worth's swim gap is over or under five minutes.
[45:29] SPEAKER_04: Under.
[45:30] SPEAKER_01: Way under.
[45:31] SPEAKER_01: Way, way under.
[45:32] SPEAKER_04: I think Cam's going to swim in that main chase pack.
[45:35] SPEAKER_04: He's going to have the swim of his life.
[45:37] SPEAKER_01: Wherever Christian is, Cam Worth will be there.
[45:39] SPEAKER_04: So in that top eight then?
[45:41] SPEAKER_04: You think Cam's going to be in that top eight?
[45:42] SPEAKER_01: No, you think that.
[45:44] SPEAKER_01: I don't think that.
[45:45] SPEAKER_01: I think he'll be in that next group.
[45:46] SPEAKER_01: I think he'll be with Magnus, Christian, Gustav, Cam.
[45:49] SPEAKER_01: I think it'll be a big, strong bike pack.
[45:51] SPEAKER_01: And that's the threat to Sam Lei, though, by the way.
[45:54] SPEAKER_04: Alright.
[45:54] SPEAKER_04: Let's move on to the bike.
[45:56] SPEAKER_04: Five or more crashes, including someone from that front group.
[46:00] SPEAKER_04: I'm going to say no.
[46:02] SPEAKER_01: No, no.
[46:03] SPEAKER_01: Two.
[46:04] SPEAKER_01: Two would be my line.
[46:05] SPEAKER_04: I'm going to say no as well.
[46:07] SPEAKER_04: A main player gets a questionable penalty.
[46:11] SPEAKER_04: No.
[46:12] SPEAKER_01: God, it's Iron Man, so you want to say yes, don't you?
[46:15] SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah.
[46:16] SPEAKER_01: Uh no.
[46:19] SPEAKER_04: I'm going to say yes.
[46:22] SPEAKER_01: If you were going to guess that, though, who do you think it who do you think it'll be?
[46:25] SPEAKER_04: Um Rudy Von Berg.
[46:28] SPEAKER_04: Oh, poor Rudy.
[46:30] SPEAKER_04: No, I like Rudy.
[46:31] SPEAKER_04: I like Rudy.
[46:32] SPEAKER_04: He's an easy target, Rudy.
[46:34] SPEAKER_04: I'll tell you why in a couple of questions.
[46:36] SPEAKER_04: I don't want to spoil the upcoming questions.
[46:38] SPEAKER_04: A podium contender has a mechanical that will ruin their race.
[46:43] SPEAKER_04: So it could be a flat, could be gearing.
[46:46] SPEAKER_03: No.
[46:48] SPEAKER_03: But I think there will be some mechanicals.
[46:50] SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's it's new new bikes and techs and wheels and things.
[46:54] SPEAKER_03: I it it's not gonna flow perfectly for all these main guys.
[46:58] SPEAKER_01: Happened to Annie Haug last year.
[46:59] SPEAKER_01: Her race was over at a T1, remember where she had that uh I think it was a tube issue in the end or something.
[47:04] SPEAKER_01: Like she had a slash tire and then she couldn't figure it, like she couldn't figure a tube out.
[47:08] SPEAKER_01: Um I'm gonna go no, not one of the big favorites.
[47:12] SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go no as well.
[47:14] SPEAKER_04: Christian Blumentfeld will throw up more or less than five times on the bike.
[47:23] SPEAKER_03: I heard he's doing 180 grams per hour, so I'm gonna say more.
[47:28] SPEAKER_01: I think no, zero spew for Christian Blumenfeld.
[47:32] SPEAKER_01: Vomit free since 2024.
[47:34] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
[47:35] SPEAKER_04: I think he's got that under control.
[47:37] SPEAKER_04: There'll be blatant center rule violations on the descent.
[47:41] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[47:42] SPEAKER_01: Yes, I think almost every single athlete will cross the center line, and every single athlete who's competing for the win will cross the center line.
[47:50] SPEAKER_04: I agree, there'll be blatant center center line violations, and I think that's where Rudy gets his questionable penalty.
[47:57] SPEAKER_01: Wow, yeah, he'll go all across the road for sure.
[48:01] SPEAKER_04: Sam Laidlow comes into T2 alone and in the lead.
[48:05] SPEAKER_04: No.
[48:06] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[48:07] SPEAKER_04: Yes.
[48:10] SPEAKER_04: Okay.
[48:12] SPEAKER_04: Someone in the top five spends nine minutes in the red zone on Race Ranger.
[48:17] SPEAKER_01: Shout out Vincent Louis.
[48:20] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, is he racing?
[48:21] SPEAKER_03: Uh it's interesting with the climbing, so uh I'll just say yes, even though are we gonna see it?
[48:29] SPEAKER_03: Who knows?
[48:30] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, are we gonna get the um race ranger data?
[48:34] SPEAKER_04: Probably not, but uh you know that one was a bit of a joke question.
[48:38] SPEAKER_01: No, we won't get the race ranger data.
[48:39] SPEAKER_01: Iron Man don't play like that.
[48:41] SPEAKER_01: Andrew Messik wanted to though, remember that story I was telling?
[48:43] SPEAKER_01: But no, Scott Gro's too nice.
[48:46] SPEAKER_04: Alright, on to the run.
[48:48] SPEAKER_04: Three or more men run sub 230.
[48:52] SPEAKER_04: No.
[48:53] SPEAKER_01: No.
[48:54] SPEAKER_04: No.
[48:55] SPEAKER_04: I think one will.
[48:56] SPEAKER_04: I think there'll be one sub 230.
[48:58] SPEAKER_01: And who do you think it'll be?
[48:59] SPEAKER_04: Matt Hansen.
[49:01] SPEAKER_01: Greg?
[49:02] SPEAKER_01: Do you think anyone will?
[49:03] SPEAKER_03: Jason.
[49:04] SPEAKER_03: Well.
[49:05] SPEAKER_03: And I think one of the Norwegians will.
[49:07] SPEAKER_03: I I don't know who though.
[49:08] SPEAKER_03: One of them will.
[49:09] SPEAKER_01: I got a gut feeling that no one will break it.
[49:11] SPEAKER_01: But if if someone does, I reckon Jason is a great chair.
[49:16] SPEAKER_01: And I think Patrick and Gustav are the next two, most likely.
[49:20] SPEAKER_04: I just think that front look like the main players are just riding too.
[49:24] SPEAKER_04: Like the Patrick's, Gustav, Christian, they ride so hard, and like running 230 off coming off with a chance at the win is so hard, you know.
[49:34] SPEAKER_04: But I think guys like Jason and Matt, who can have a bit more of a measured approach on the bike and focus more on the run, can you know knock out that sub 230.
[49:43] SPEAKER_01: If Christian is on a good day, I just can't say anything good about it now because I've gone out and declared that I think he'll have a bad day.
[49:50] SPEAKER_01: So I can't I can't just like contradict myself.
[49:52] SPEAKER_01: But if Christian's on a good day, he's the kind of guy who I reckon could be on 225 pace for a long, long time.
[49:59] SPEAKER_01: Like 30k and still on 225 pace.
[50:02] SPEAKER_04: Alright, next question.
[50:03] SPEAKER_04: Patrick Lang will have the fastest run.
[50:06] SPEAKER_04: I'm backing my boy Jason West, so no from me.
[50:09] SPEAKER_01: I think yes.
[50:11] SPEAKER_04: I think no.
[50:12] SPEAKER_04: I think Matt Hansen.
[50:14] SPEAKER_04: 2023 Laidlow went 807.
[50:18] SPEAKER_04: This year, the top three will all go sub eight hours.
[50:22] SPEAKER_04: No.
[50:23] SPEAKER_00: Yes.
[50:24] SPEAKER_04: I think no.
[50:25] SPEAKER_04: I think the winner will, and second and third will be just over eight.
[50:29] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I see.
[50:30] SPEAKER_01: I reckon it definitely I I think two will for sure.
[50:33] SPEAKER_01: Laidlow and Patrick Lang.
[50:35] SPEAKER_01: And I think Magnus might as well.
[50:37] SPEAKER_01: And I think Gustav could as well.
[50:38] SPEAKER_01: I here's the thing.
[50:39] SPEAKER_01: Apple, I reckon four or five might.
[50:42] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[50:42] SPEAKER_04: I mean it's it's yeah, I mean, definitely the potential, right?
[50:47] SPEAKER_04: All right.
[50:48] SPEAKER_04: Someone gets an outside assistance penalty for a spectator running next to them.
[50:54] SPEAKER_04: I'm going no on that.
[50:56] SPEAKER_01: No, Christian Hoganhags learn his learning's lesson there.
[50:59] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'm going no.
[51:00] SPEAKER_04: Like, there's no way Iron Man will let that happen again, right?
[51:03] SPEAKER_01: Well, do you guys think do should I run next next to Benjamin Zorgnotti on the marathon and give him slits all day?
[51:10] SPEAKER_04: No, we want Ben to do well.
[51:12] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but the camera's not going to be on Ben, let's be honest.
[51:16] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, give him some carbs, bro.
[51:18] SPEAKER_03: Help him out there.
[51:18] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay.
[51:19] SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna crew for Ben on the run all day.
[51:23] SPEAKER_04: Alright.
[51:24] SPEAKER_04: Next question.
[51:25] SPEAKER_04: The winner will be someone who has not won an Iron Man World Championship title before.
[51:30] SPEAKER_04: Can't believe I haven't said his name yet.
[51:32] SPEAKER_03: Uh Jonas Schoenberg, so that's a yes from me.
[51:35] SPEAKER_01: No.
[51:36] SPEAKER_04: I also think no.
[51:37] SPEAKER_04: I think somebody's gonna claim another title to add to their uh trophy room.
[51:42] SPEAKER_04: Neither Christian or Gustav will be the first Norwegian across the line.
[51:46] SPEAKER_04: Love the question, but I'm gonna say no.
[51:48] SPEAKER_01: No, I think Gustav for me.
[51:50] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think it will either be Christian or Gustav, but it would be, I don't know.
[51:55] SPEAKER_04: I think I've been seeing some rumblings that these other Norwegians that I'm not too familiar with actually are really, really strong.
[52:01] SPEAKER_01: So they are.
[52:03] SPEAKER_01: They're both super strong, both great cyclists.
[52:06] SPEAKER_01: One of them was a professional cyclist, and yeah, they're and then one Alp Duez.
[52:11] SPEAKER_01: They're they're both very, very good cyclists and pretty decent, all right, all-round triathletes.
[52:15] SPEAKER_01: I think they'll both do better than we expect, but I still think good.
[52:18] SPEAKER_03: One of them's swim deficit, though, is gonna be 10 minutes from the looks of it.
[52:23] SPEAKER_01: I agree with that.
[52:25] SPEAKER_04: The lead of the race changes more than twice on the run.
[52:29] SPEAKER_04: The fan in me, I'm just gonna say yes.
[52:31] SPEAKER_04: So more than twice.
[52:32] SPEAKER_03: That means there's gonna be three lead changes minimum.
[52:35] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I mean, Jonas will lead, he'll he'll back off, he'll retake the lead, he'll back off, and then he'll take it at the end.
[52:40] SPEAKER_03: I mean, it's just classic Schomburg, that's how he does.
[52:43] SPEAKER_01: I actually think it's a good shout that Schomberg could come into the lead and then Laido overtakes him and then Patrick Lang overtakes him.
[52:50] SPEAKER_01: But I'm gonna say no.
[52:51] SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna say no, because I just I'm back in Sam Lalo.
[52:54] SPEAKER_01: I think so.
[52:54] SPEAKER_01: I think he'll come in either by himself or with Schomberg, and then no one will take it off him.
[52:58] SPEAKER_01: But Patrick Lang's coming, Magnus is coming, Gustav's coming.
[53:01] SPEAKER_01: I think it's not a crazy shout.
[53:03] SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say yes.
[53:05] unknown: Yes.
[53:06] SPEAKER_01: Yep.
[53:07] SPEAKER_01: That would be good.
[53:08] SPEAKER_01: That'd be so good to watch.
[53:09] SPEAKER_04: The winner of the race faces extreme post-race shoe drama.
[53:15] SPEAKER_04: Is Hayden racing?
[53:20] SPEAKER_01: Dean Harper's listening, shaking his head right now.
[53:25] SPEAKER_04: So that's just a little joke, one.
[53:27] SPEAKER_04: You don't really have to answer that.
[53:28] SPEAKER_01: Although, on this, has this been public knowledge yet?
[53:31] SPEAKER_01: Because I got told, and I don't know if it's true, but I got told by multiple people that Hayden Wilde has been told he's not gonna get a slot at the Iron Man 70.3 World Championships because he didn't qualify, he did T100 races.
[53:44] SPEAKER_01: I think then he him and his team approached Iron Man and asked, and I've been told that Iron Man have told him he had lots of chances, like he could at Ungeelong or whatever, at the start of the year, so they're not gonna give him a slot.
[53:54] SPEAKER_01: Is that common knowledge?
[53:56] SPEAKER_04: It's the first I'm hearing of it.
[53:58] SPEAKER_04: Um, but I do somewhat agree.
[53:59] SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, if if he wanted to do the Iron Man 70.3 world champs, he did have ample opportunity to qualify.
[54:07] SPEAKER_04: Um my question is, do you not get a slot for getting second at the previous year's 70.3 worlds?
[54:14] SPEAKER_01: I think you still have to validate, right?
[54:15] SPEAKER_01: Like you still have to go and do a race.
[54:17] SPEAKER_04: Hmm, interesting.
[54:19] SPEAKER_01: So I think I think he doesn't get a slot and he still had to go and go and get a slot this year or in the qualifying period.
[54:24] SPEAKER_01: So yeah, if that's true and he doesn't get a slot, you are or get a wild card, you heard it here first.
[54:30] SPEAKER_01: No matter what you see on Instagram with a breaking news post, this is where you heard it, pretenders.
[54:36] SPEAKER_04: Alright.
[54:37] SPEAKER_04: Last one.
[54:38] SPEAKER_04: Seven or more in the top ten are European.
[54:42] SPEAKER_04: No chance.
[54:44] SPEAKER_01: Oh, I think this is I think that's right around it.
[54:48] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I yes, yes.
[54:50] SPEAKER_04: I think yes as well.
[54:51] SPEAKER_04: I think there's gonna be yeah.
[54:54] SPEAKER_04: I think there'll be seven or more of the top ten are European.
[54:57] SPEAKER_04: There's six Americans.
[54:59] SPEAKER_03: Doesn't make sense.
[55:00] SPEAKER_01: The the math isn't math ain't I think Rudy Von Berg, Cam Worth are are two real chances to top ten.
[55:10] SPEAKER_01: Like I expect both of them to top ten.
[55:12] SPEAKER_01: Who else do you expect that's not a European to top ten?
[55:14] SPEAKER_04: I think Riddle and Weiss have the those shots.
[55:18] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
[55:18] SPEAKER_04: I think Brad Weiss has a chance.
[55:20] SPEAKER_04: I don't know about Riddle.
[55:21] SPEAKER_01: I mean I don't think Riddle does.
[55:23] SPEAKER_04: I could see him in that kind of around 15 Benjamin.
[55:26] SPEAKER_01: Benjamin Zorgnotti, probably not a huge chance.
[55:31] SPEAKER_01: He was born in France as well, so that's a and it's French Polynesia, so that's an interesting little uh you know, is he actually French?
[55:38] SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, like I don't know.
[55:41] SPEAKER_01: I I just think I think it will be Cam and Rudy, but I don't I don't think Marquart will, but he potentially could run up into it.
[55:49] SPEAKER_01: Jason West could potentially run up into the top 10, as could Matt Hanson.
[55:53] SPEAKER_04: I think Nick Thompson if they unleash the 230, I could see like slot slotting into that 10th slot.
[56:00] SPEAKER_03: Sam Long, Mark Whart, Hansen, or Jason West.
[56:03] SPEAKER_03: Don't you think one of them will kind of run their way into the top 10?
[56:06] SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
[56:06] SPEAKER_01: I think Jason West or Matt Hanson are huge chances.
[56:09] SPEAKER_01: And I do expect Sam Long to have a good run, but I think they'll all be around that mark.
[56:13] SPEAKER_01: Like I think there'll be lots of non-Europeans from 7th to 20th, but I just think there could be seven Europeans in the top ten.
[56:20] SPEAKER_01: Like I'm backing Laylo and Magnus and Christian and Gustav and Leon and there's just so many.
[56:27] SPEAKER_04: Are we calling uh UK um part of the Europe or are they um they outside of Europe?
[56:35] SPEAKER_01: Brexit.
[56:36] SPEAKER_01: I forgot about Brexit.
[56:37] SPEAKER_01: I was in my head, I was thinking of the UK as Europe, but they're not anymore, are they?
[56:42] SPEAKER_04: No.
[56:43] SPEAKER_04: There's a bit of a grey area there, so yeah.
[56:46] SPEAKER_01: Do they just um I know we're not really that kind of podcast, but what's the consensus over in England?
[56:52] SPEAKER_01: Are they like happy that they they left the the EU, like overwhelmingly, or are they are they do they wish they were back?
[56:58] SPEAKER_04: Jack, I have no fucking idea.
[57:04] SPEAKER_01: I have no idea either.
[57:05] SPEAKER_03: We'll get skipper on for the political commentary on the uh tomorrow, hopefully.
[57:09] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you're from the UK or England or whoever actually left the EU, comment on the Spotify tomorrow and let us know.
[57:15] SPEAKER_01: Are you happy about it or do you wish you were back?
[57:17] SPEAKER_01: Because we have no idea.
[57:19] SPEAKER_04: Just so we can inform everyone and uh and let the listeners know.
[57:23] SPEAKER_04: That's why they come to this podcast.
[57:25] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
[57:25] SPEAKER_01: The triton hour, and then in the offseason, the political hour.
[57:29] SPEAKER_01: Uh, good good note to wrap it up on, boys.
[57:31] SPEAKER_01: Uh wow, day five, done and dusted of the daily pods.
[57:35] SPEAKER_01: I actually question whether we'd get here at some points, but these, the in my opinion, Apo and Greg, these have been the funnest podcasts we've ever done on the Triton Hour.
[57:43] SPEAKER_01: I've never had more fun doing podcasts, and we're five days in.
[57:46] SPEAKER_01: Tomorrow is our last episode, our final episode.
[57:49] SPEAKER_01: So six episodes in the week.
[57:52] SPEAKER_01: We hope you guys have all enjoyed it.
[57:54] SPEAKER_01: Uh, so it's your last chance if you want to get involved.
[57:56] SPEAKER_01: We want to be interactive with you.
[57:58] SPEAKER_01: We love how many of you have been listening to these.
[58:01] SPEAKER_01: The numbers are like crazy.
[58:02] SPEAKER_01: They're the highest the podcast numbers have ever been.
[58:04] SPEAKER_01: So we thank you for that.
[58:06] SPEAKER_01: It does also make us think we might have to do it again for Kona, but we need at least a week off before we can decide.
[58:11] SPEAKER_01: So if you want to get involved, we want to hear from you.
[58:13] SPEAKER_01: Comment on the Spotify, leave your questions, leave your statements, take the piss out of Greg, go for it.
[58:18] SPEAKER_01: Uh, and we'll see you again tomorrow for day six and our final day of every day doing a podcast in the lead up to the Men's Iron Man World Championships.
