## Transcript

[0:27] SPEAKER_00: Yes, welcome back, everyone.
[0:29] SPEAKER_00: And guess what?
[0:30] SPEAKER_00: It's Kona week, baby.
[0:32] SPEAKER_00: And it's 3 a.m.
[0:34] SPEAKER_00: here in Melbourne.
[0:35] SPEAKER_00: I'm more tired than I've ever been.
[0:36] SPEAKER_00: Shout out Dean Harper.
[0:38] SPEAKER_00: Daylight savings has cooked me.
[0:39] SPEAKER_00: I didn't know the times had changed.
[0:41] SPEAKER_00: I woke up an hour early.
[0:42] SPEAKER_00: I'm just, I don't even know if I'm going to make it to Kona.
[0:45] SPEAKER_00: Also, speaking of people who aren't going to make it places, Sam Appleton's not here.
[0:49] SPEAKER_00: He's well over 50 days into his no carbs before Kona preparation.
[0:53] SPEAKER_00: And he's just so skeletal and tired and fatigued, and his iron's so low that he couldn't make it to the podcast because he either had to pick Kona or the podcast.
[1:02] SPEAKER_00: So he's picked Kona, so no Apo this week.
[1:05] SPEAKER_00: However, Malachi Cashmore does appear to be here, and you wouldn't believe it because for three weeks straight, he's had internet problems, computer problems.
[1:15] SPEAKER_00: He went missing like the Titan submersible, but it looks like you're back, Malachi.
[1:20] SPEAKER_04: I thought I was coming really close to being kicked off, to be honest.
[1:23] SPEAKER_04: And my mum came into my room after my amazing performance today, which we're going to spend a large amount of this podcast talking about.
[1:30] SPEAKER_04: She comes into my room, she's like, I've got you this computer, and it's literally from about 1970.
[1:36] SPEAKER_04: The video quality is actually horrible.
[1:39] SPEAKER_04: I could probably code the pixels myself, but apparently the Wi-Fi works pretty good on it, so I'm excited to actually take part this week.
[1:46] SPEAKER_00: I'm going to completely ignore that thing you said about that PB that you might have ran today, because that is not something I want to talk to talk about.
[1:53] SPEAKER_00: And I purposely left it out of the introduction.
[1:56] SPEAKER_00: I do have a negative introduction today, though, Malachi.
[1:58] SPEAKER_00: Well done for that 105 half marathon, by the way.
[2:01] SPEAKER_00: And that's Vicky Holland, who I strongly believe is the worst person alive.
[2:05] SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
[2:06] SPEAKER_00: Vicky, I would say it's good to have you here, but it's bloody not.
[2:10] SPEAKER_02: Um I mean, you've stumped me a little bit.
[2:13] SPEAKER_02: Have I offended you this week, Jack?
[2:15] SPEAKER_02: What's going on here?
[2:16] SPEAKER_00: Yes, you have actually, and you know you have, so why are you playing dumb?
[2:19] SPEAKER_02: I don't know what you're talking about, Jack.
[2:22] SPEAKER_02: Please enlighten enlighten the world.
[2:24] SPEAKER_00: Malachi has a flight book today.
[2:26] SPEAKER_00: Greg has a flight book today.
[2:27] SPEAKER_00: Apo has a flight book today.
[2:29] SPEAKER_00: I have a flight book today.
[2:30] SPEAKER_00: Where are you?
[2:32] SPEAKER_02: I've got a flight booked, it's just not going to go now.
[2:36] SPEAKER_02: Jack, this is a new news though.
[2:38] SPEAKER_02: Come on, you've had a whole year to get your head round this.
[2:42] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't know what this is like.
[2:44] SPEAKER_00: I don't know what a comparison is, but you know, like just because I knew it was coming doesn't make it any easier.
[2:49] SPEAKER_00: In fact, today I've woken up really angry at you and quite upset.
[2:54] SPEAKER_02: Okay, I'll take I'll take those emotions, I'll let you process them.
[2:57] SPEAKER_02: I all I can say is if it makes you feel any better, I already have FOMO and you guys haven't even gone yet.
[3:03] SPEAKER_02: Um, seeing the things that you put in the group about stuff that you're gonna get up to, and when we were talking about the marathon last week and all of that, like I want to be there, I do, but um, it's not gonna happen, not this year.
[3:14] SPEAKER_02: May maybe next year.
[3:16] SPEAKER_00: Let's be honest, let's be really, really honest here.
[3:18] SPEAKER_00: We would be so much more fun than your boring husband Reese and your boring kids on your bloody close friend's Instagram story.
[3:25] SPEAKER_02: Don't you dare! No, no, won't have that.
[3:28] SPEAKER_02: That's not fair.
[3:29] SPEAKER_02: My family holiday is gonna be great, although probably more exhausting than if I came to Kona.
[3:33] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
[3:34] SPEAKER_00: Shout out Reese.
[3:35] SPEAKER_00: Reese listens.
[3:36] SPEAKER_00: Um, so that's why I said that.
[3:37] SPEAKER_00: And uh, yeah, Malachi and Vicky and Apo in spirit, if he does manage to make it through the flight without dying of starvation.
[3:45] SPEAKER_00: Um Greg called me during the week, and I've been keeping this guy this a secret from you.
[3:50] SPEAKER_00: He said that he was feeling quite undervalued on the podcast.
[3:54] SPEAKER_00: And a quote that he gave me, Vicki and Malachi, was that I carried the podcast, and I just asked him, I said, Greg, what do you need from us?
[4:02] SPEAKER_00: How can we fix this going forward?
[4:04] SPEAKER_00: So um from this moment onwards, this is how Greg Harper will be introduced into the podcast.
[4:36] SPEAKER_00: The most controversial, most opinionated man in trial, the man who writes himself when no one else does.
[4:43] SPEAKER_00: Greg, motherfucking half eye.
[4:52] SPEAKER_01: It's an honor for you guys to be here with me.
[4:55] SPEAKER_01: And thank you for that lovely introduction, Jack.
[4:57] SPEAKER_01: God, that song hits.
[4:59] SPEAKER_01: I think you can play that song at any time, and you would just be like, okay, I think my life's going pretty good at the moment.
[5:04] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's good to have you here, mate.
[5:05] SPEAKER_00: John Cena and you do have a few similarities, both uh bad boys in your respective scenes.
[5:10] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's uh he's one of my favorite guys, and uh I look up to him a lot, so I appreciate you playing that song.
[5:16] SPEAKER_01: And um, I was just I wanted to throw just a little bit of shade at Vicky myself, because I think Vicky's just scared to actually go to the real biggest race in Traffon, Kona.
[5:27] SPEAKER_01: You know, she's like she's done the whole Olympics thing, but like she's just she would she would just like feel bad being there, you know?
[5:32] SPEAKER_01: She doesn't really have that like pedigree of of results, so she doesn't really fit in quite with that that Kona crowd, the biggest race in the sport.
[5:40] SPEAKER_00: Imposter syndrome, you think, for Vicky.
[5:42] SPEAKER_02: Why would why would you throw that shade at me, Greg?
[5:45] SPEAKER_02: We all know that you're an Olympics lover.
[5:47] SPEAKER_02: We all know that you're actually on Team Olympics.
[5:49] SPEAKER_02: Just because you're going to Kona tomorrow, don't try and flip it now.
[5:53] SPEAKER_02: We all know that you know what is the pinnacle.
[5:57] unknown: St.
[5:58] SPEAKER_01: Anthony's baby.
[6:00] SPEAKER_01: There we go.
[6:02] SPEAKER_02: Right distance, but you know.
[6:05] SPEAKER_00: I do kind of think this might have some validity, Greg's theory here.
[6:09] SPEAKER_00: Like, Vicky is the first person to wake up at 2 a.m.
[6:12] SPEAKER_00: for some shitty short course race that three people watch, or like gets asked to commentate some random race that no one's gonna be at, or go to bloody Singapore with the T100.
[6:21] SPEAKER_00: She's there, but as soon as Kona comes around, that she's known about all year, she suddenly has to plan an Emily vacation that exact week.
[6:29] SPEAKER_00: It does seem like she's kind of avoiding it because if she did go there, she would feel like a complete imposter and wouldn't be able to tell people about her Olympic medal because they would have no idea what it is, and they would ask her how many times she's finished Kona and she'd have to be like, Oh, well, I never actually quite made it into long course, spent all my career focusing on short course.
[6:48] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, maybe I left it a little bit too late, and she just doesn't like maybe her ego can't can't quite deal with that, Greg.
[6:54] SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what I was thinking when when I brought it up.
[6:57] SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, it makes sense now.
[6:58] SPEAKER_01: And did you did you did you know that Vicky's vacation is actually uh she's going to Maui, which is uh the other island in Hawaii?
[7:06] SPEAKER_01: That's the that's the kicker here.
[7:11] SPEAKER_02: You have to excuse me, guys.
[7:12] SPEAKER_02: I'm just making some notes because I think I'm gonna need to take all this to my therapist.
[7:16] SPEAKER_02: Um some pretty deep stuff here that I'm gonna have to unpack.
[7:20] SPEAKER_02: And uh, some of it may be true, some of it may have just been projected on me, but I'm gonna have to figure it out.
[7:25] SPEAKER_00: You know what?
[7:25] SPEAKER_00: If you did come to Kona, Bob Babbitt would be a great person to sit down and discuss your feelings with.
[7:30] SPEAKER_00: So empathetic.
[7:31] SPEAKER_00: He can be my therapist.
[7:33] SPEAKER_00: He could help you work through all of this stuff.
[7:34] SPEAKER_00: And it is quite a change for the podcast because usually we get in and I just brown nose you for an hour and a half.
[7:42] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, well, you have really upset me, but I will get over it because I'm getting to hang out with my boys this week.
[7:46] SPEAKER_00: So that's gonna be fun.
[7:48] SPEAKER_00: Um, speaking of Kona, that's the point of this podcast, Greg, Malachi, and Vicky.
[7:53] SPEAKER_00: We're gonna do uh a quick, punchy 30 to 40 minutes just chatting about Kona.
[7:57] SPEAKER_00: Um, we've got daily podcasts coming up.
[7:59] SPEAKER_00: We're doing some other stuff as well, that's like the big stuff we're doing in Kona.
[8:03] SPEAKER_00: Uh, we might talk about it at the end of the show.
[8:05] SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'll see how I feel, but kind of want to keep it a secret as well.
[8:09] SPEAKER_00: Um, so let's jump into some Kona chat, guys.
[8:12] SPEAKER_00: I was thinking we would start with what are we all like very specifically most looking forward to in the race this weekend?
[8:21] SPEAKER_00: Greg, did you want to kick us off?
[8:22] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we can I can go first because you're gonna hate it the most.
[8:26] SPEAKER_01: So then you could probably just move on from it.
[8:28] SPEAKER_01: Uh the swim dynamics.
[8:30] SPEAKER_01: I just I love watching a swim and how it like plays out.
[8:34] SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's just really gonna set the tone for the day.
[8:36] SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm curious to see like if Taylor swims with Lucy and who in the men's race is kind of like racing hard from the gun and who wants to take a shot.
[8:45] SPEAKER_01: So I mean, I'm I'm excited for the whole race.
[8:47] SPEAKER_01: And yes, we're gonna be there, but I just like the nuances of it, and I feel like it like kind of sets the tone for the day and see like, okay, now we know who's gonna be really aggressive, like what's Laidlow's plan today, and we can all sit here and speculate, but I just kind of like the those moments where it starts and you're like, oh, here we go.
[9:03] SPEAKER_01: So it's really everything, but I'm gonna say swim dynamics just to make Jack upset because I don't know if you guys know this.
[9:08] SPEAKER_01: He hates talking about swimming.
[9:11] SPEAKER_00: What about in the men's race, Greg?
[9:13] SPEAKER_00: Do you think there's like a key moment out of the swim where if we see a time gap or if we see a person with another person, it means someone's days made or or broken?
[9:23] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I mean it's really that like that front group and whether maybe Christian is involved or how far back uh he is with that group and how like motivated they are.
[9:34] SPEAKER_01: But you know, it just Kona's one of those races that's so hard and so long.
[9:41] SPEAKER_01: Um sorry.
[9:43] SPEAKER_01: And I I just don't think the sw the swim matters a lot, but it's just it who can get to the finish line by themselves the fastest.
[9:50] SPEAKER_01: It's just like I don't think no one no one's mate race is lost in the swim in Kona based on dynamics.
[9:56] SPEAKER_01: I just think it's just too too hard and too exposed of a race.
[10:00] SPEAKER_01: Like you'll still you'll still do well even if Christian's three minutes back or he's 90 seconds back.
[10:05] SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't know if it's gonna make or break.
[10:07] SPEAKER_01: Um because the gaps I feel like in Kona 2 usually aren't they're not 45 seconds in between the podium finishers.
[10:14] SPEAKER_01: It's it's kind of bigger than that normally.
[10:16] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[10:16] SPEAKER_04: Not last year, maybe, but do you not think it's more than it's more than two groups now, it's three, because you've got the group chat group heading off the front, then you've got the main group, and then you've got Christian and everyone behind.
[10:29] SPEAKER_04: So it's more the time gap Christian to the main group, and then also what's the group?
[10:33] SPEAKER_04: He'll be in that main group though.
[10:34] SPEAKER_04: Sam Laidlow, Schomburg, Martin Van Riel.
[10:37] SPEAKER_01: He'll be with them though, don't you think?
[10:38] SPEAKER_01: It kind of depends.
[10:39] SPEAKER_01: Like if there's six guys off the front, or it's probably more like ten, and then there's gonna be a main group of like twenty.
[10:44] SPEAKER_01: Like maybe there's a little split.
[10:45] SPEAKER_01: Like Christian's gonna be in there.
[10:47] SPEAKER_04: No, but compared to previous years, like last year's not last year's race, 2024 race, when Sam Laidlow rode off the front, he had nobody with him.
[10:55] SPEAKER_04: Whereas this time round, he's gonna have actually some people with him who are willing to push, like your Schomburg's and maybe Martin Van Riel, depending on how he's feeling.
[11:03] SPEAKER_04: So you've not just got one person off the front, you've actually maybe got a couple that are gonna tow the front group even faster.
[11:10] SPEAKER_04: So Blumenfeld being 90 seconds down is actually more of a big worry to him.
[11:15] SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, it's a wor of course, it's it's all a worry.
[11:17] SPEAKER_01: Like he doesn't want to be behind these guys, but you know, I you know, I was talking about the swim dynamics, I don't think it's gonna like whether it's two minutes or ninety seconds or two thirty, like I think it's gonna be kind of similar.
[11:29] SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Kristen's gonna try to make his way up or you know, not bleed five more minutes just before he starts the run.
[11:36] SPEAKER_00: This is preempting something I'm gonna talk about later, so I'll leave my opinion here and instead I'll just transform it to mine.
[11:43] SPEAKER_00: I yeah, what I'm very specifically looking forward to is this exact thing, like what KB's gap out of the water is, and if he ever makes it to the front of the race on the bike, or whether he just never sees the front of the race until potentially on the run or not at all.
[11:57] SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm also really looking forward to Gustav Eden's bike because I don't think Gustav's gonna be anywhere near the front in the swim.
[12:03] SPEAKER_00: He might not even be with Christian, he might have to come back from from you know 30, 45 seconds down on Christian, or he might be with him.
[12:10] SPEAKER_00: Either way, I think Gustav Eden is gonna have to take a lot of responsibility for his own race and Christian Blumenfeld's race if either of them on a podium.
[12:18] SPEAKER_00: And so I'm really looking forward to seeing what Gustav Eden we get on the bike.
[12:22] SPEAKER_00: And then what is Taylor and Lucy's lead into T2 is the next biggest thing I'm looking forward to.
[12:28] SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna I'm not even saying will they have a lead into T2.
[12:32] SPEAKER_00: I'm saying what is their lead into T2 because I genuinely believe they could have like six to eight minutes on maybe one solo person, like a Solvay, and like 12 to 14 minutes on a on a bigger chase group with maybe Laura and Kat.
[12:46] SPEAKER_00: Like I think I think that Taylor and Lucy could do some seriously, seriously deadly things on the bike course in uh Kona in in five days' time.
[12:54] SPEAKER_02: That's my uh the big one that I'm excited about, and it's just simply to see them go head to head again.
[12:59] SPEAKER_02: Like when Taylor and Lucy are both in the race together, it's usually pretty exciting and they do build big leads.
[13:05] SPEAKER_02: And obviously, last year there was the just the dramatics of them both pulling off the course at various points.
[13:11] SPEAKER_02: So I just want to see what they're both capable of.
[13:13] SPEAKER_02: I don't think they'll make the same mistakes again.
[13:15] SPEAKER_02: I think they will both finish, but will they be able to finish one-two, or will they actually not quite get there if they have to take a percentage or two off as they did or from what they did last year?
[13:27] SPEAKER_02: So that for me is probably the most exciting battle, if you like, that we've got coming.
[13:32] SPEAKER_02: And I just want to, as well as that, echo what you said about um I guess this it's the swim bikers versus the bike runners for me in the men's race that is the intriguing thing, right?
[13:43] SPEAKER_02: We've spoken about that potential swim group and we've spoken about swim bike group and that potential bike to run group, particularly on the run side with like the Christian, for example, in that group.
[13:52] SPEAKER_02: And where is it, where's it gonna shake out?
[13:54] SPEAKER_02: And that I think is really exciting.
[13:55] SPEAKER_02: It's probably gonna be a battle of those two groups all day long, and that's it's gonna be fun to track, even though I'll probably be on an aeroplane at the time.
[14:03] SPEAKER_02: Um, and then the first final one, Gustave, like just what's Gustave gonna do?
[14:08] SPEAKER_02: Like, I I agree with what you're saying, Jack.
[14:10] SPEAKER_02: It's you know it's it can be exciting to see what he does on the bike specifically, but I'm just quite excited to watch Gustave all stop.
[14:16] SPEAKER_02: Like, I think we all know when Gustaf is in shape, he does really cool stuff and he can win the thing.
[14:23] SPEAKER_02: And I think all year he's been getting into better and better and better shape, and I think he's probably thinking he's ready.
[14:30] SPEAKER_02: Like, I think he looks calm and confident.
[14:32] SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's always a pretty jokey kind of guy anyway, but I get a sense that he's sort of ready, and so that means it's gonna be pretty exciting to watch him as well.
[14:40] SPEAKER_01: You guys both talked about Taylor and Lucy, like kind of oh, what's the gaps?
[14:44] SPEAKER_01: Do you guys envision them together?
[14:46] SPEAKER_01: Like, what's what's your what's your envision envisionment?
[14:49] SPEAKER_01: I don't think that's a word.
[14:50] SPEAKER_01: What is your vision for those two?
[14:52] SPEAKER_01: Like Albeit Vision.
[14:55] SPEAKER_01: Just shorten it, vision's good.
[14:57] SPEAKER_01: I'm not well.
[14:58] SPEAKER_01: I'm not well today.
[14:59] SPEAKER_00: No, my envisionment is that uh Taylor Taylor is every chance to drop Lucy, but I don't think Lucy will want to let that happen.
[15:07] SPEAKER_00: I I think Lucy would destroy our race to make sure that Taylor doesn't drop her.
[15:12] SPEAKER_00: And we've seen this multiple times now.
[15:14] SPEAKER_00: We saw it play out at Kona last year where Taylor rode up to Lucy and then Lucy stayed with Taylor.
[15:19] SPEAKER_00: And we saw it at Ma Bayer at the 70.3 worlds last year, where Taylor tried really, really hard to drop Lucy up the main climb.
[15:27] SPEAKER_00: And despite um how hard Taylor rode, she she wasn't able to drop Lucy.
[15:32] SPEAKER_00: And you guys saw a couple of weeks ago just how fast Taylor Nib rides her bike uphill at Nice.
[15:38] SPEAKER_00: No one was anywhere near her.
[15:39] SPEAKER_00: So I think Lucy has proven that if there is someone in professional long course female triathon that can hold Taylor's wheel when Taylor is at 10 out of 10 fitness, it's Lucy Charles Barclay.
[15:51] SPEAKER_00: I do not believe there's another woman in this field who would be able to hold onto Taylor's wheel if Taylor was riding with them on the Queen K this weekend.
[15:59] SPEAKER_00: I think Lucy's the only person capable of it, as amazing as Laura and Solvay and Kat and Marjolaine and Daisy Davis or um uh go on, give us another name.
[16:10] SPEAKER_02: I've literally You've done loads of names.
[16:11] SPEAKER_00: Well, maybe maybe Rebecca Andabry, Vicky.
[16:17] SPEAKER_02: Brutal.
[16:18] SPEAKER_00: I was like, can I even make this joke at this point?
[16:20] SPEAKER_00: I feel bad for Rebecca.
[16:21] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, don't throw shade at Rebecca.
[16:23] SPEAKER_02: I literally don't even know her.
[16:24] SPEAKER_00: I know it's a joke about you, that not not Rebecca.
[16:27] SPEAKER_00: That's why I literally paused and was like, I shouldn't say this.
[16:30] SPEAKER_02: But I just feel bad because I wouldn't, I'm like, does she think we're getting at her?
[16:33] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it's got nothing to do with her.
[16:35] SPEAKER_00: I actually feel guilty for saying that.
[16:36] SPEAKER_00: But anyway, it's said now.
[16:37] SPEAKER_00: Um shout out Rebecca.
[16:39] SPEAKER_00: Hopefully we meet each other at Cona and uh and have a laugh about this.
[16:42] SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I I just think that if anyone can hold Taylor Nib's wheel, it's Lucy Charles Barclays, the too long don't read of what I was just saying, and that's an intriguing battle in and of itself.
[16:52] SPEAKER_00: Maybe does Taylor come into T2 by herself or does Lucy drop Taylor?
[16:56] SPEAKER_04: No, Taylor is coming in by herself without a doubt.
[17:00] SPEAKER_04: You said oh, she's in 10 out of 10 fitness.
[17:03] SPEAKER_04: I think she's probably in 11 out of 10 by fitness with that um UCI Worlds TT.
[17:08] SPEAKER_04: I think people really underrated that performance compared to the people she was racing.
[17:12] SPEAKER_04: And then the Marbella, no not Marbella, where was Worlds Lucy?
[17:17] SPEAKER_04: Up that climb.
[17:18] SPEAKER_04: That was actually incredible.
[17:20] SPEAKER_04: So I think although Lucy's missed the race, just the gap between Taylor and the rest of the field.
[17:26] SPEAKER_04: I think I'd be willing to put a lot of money, probably all my life savings, like£50 or so, on Taylor coming in to transition by herself, or if Lucy is with her.
[17:36] SPEAKER_04: I mean Lucy's obviously gonna be in flying shape, missing 70.3 worlds, but I think you'd have to be pretty silly to try and ride with Taylor on this occasion.
[17:46] SPEAKER_02: I sort of agree.
[17:48] SPEAKER_02: I think uh I actually think Taylor won't swim with Lucy this time.
[17:52] SPEAKER_02: Um so I think she will similar to last year, we'll have to catch her, and she will catch her, and I think Lucy will probably stay with her for a little bit, but I think Taylor will make it a mission to go really hard, and then Lucy's got a decision to make.
[18:05] SPEAKER_02: Like the smart decision is probably to not go with her and to back her run, uh, given that she is a more proven iron distance runner at this point.
[18:15] SPEAKER_02: Uh, but whether she will or not, we'll guess we'll wait and find out and see.
[18:18] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and I think it also comes down to last year's race.
[18:21] SPEAKER_04: Although they'll have trained and they'll have gone through all the the like I don't even know what the word for it is, like running through it in their head, the playing back of last year's race.
[18:31] SPEAKER_04: They're definitely gonna have like a 1% that's telling them just keep it a bit more controlled.
[18:35] SPEAKER_04: And I I'm just gonna mention my point because before we move on, I'm interested to see how many male pros Taylor Nib overtakes as she comes absolutely flying down the Queen K.
[18:46] SPEAKER_04: Because did she catch any last year?
[18:49] SPEAKER_04: I'm not sure.
[18:49] SPEAKER_04: No, there weren't any last year.
[18:51] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that would have been hard.
[18:52] SPEAKER_04: They're in the same race.
[18:53] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that would have been pretty impressive if she caught some a year in advance or a year behind.
[18:58] SPEAKER_02: They've been there for a whole year.
[19:00] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there should be no pro at that point.
[19:02] SPEAKER_01: Sam Appleton 2023 still on the bike horse or whatever year that was.
[19:06] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[19:08] SPEAKER_00: That is a good question, though.
[19:09] SPEAKER_00: Like, will the male pros at the back of the pack impact the women's race at all?
[19:13] SPEAKER_00: Will Taylor or Lucy and Taylor catch them?
[19:16] SPEAKER_00: Like, potentially could that be kind of like a a moto at the front of a men's race in a North American 70.3 with Taylor catching some uh some guys who she can latch onto.
[19:25] SPEAKER_00: But you kind of think if she catches them, she just blows straight past them, doesn't she?
[19:29] SPEAKER_00: So I like that, Malachi.
[19:30] SPEAKER_00: I like that.
[19:31] SPEAKER_00: I'm curious to see that myself.
[19:33] SPEAKER_02: Uh I had one other one which I forgot to mention, and it was simply how fast is Julie Darren gonna run?
[19:38] SPEAKER_02: Because the form she was in in Nice was pretty scintillating.
[19:41] SPEAKER_02: I mean, she ran what was it about 113 half there, 113-0 or something.
[19:45] SPEAKER_02: It was scary.
[19:46] SPEAKER_04: Nothing on my 105 today, though.
[19:47] SPEAKER_02: Okay, so comparing yourself to a woman, that's great.
[19:50] SPEAKER_02: Um probably not great for your career ambitions.
[19:54] SPEAKER_04: You haven't seen her real then?
[19:56] SPEAKER_02: I actually have.
[19:58] SPEAKER_02: Oh god.
[19:58] SPEAKER_02: Um, getting yourself cancelled again, Malachi.
[20:01] SPEAKER_02: Um, no, I I just think if she can if she's in that kind of form over the half and she's prepped for Kona, which I'm pretty sure that's what the whole year's been about for her, then I think it could be pretty exciting.
[20:13] SPEAKER_00: Do you think that she's the most likely to break the marathon course record of on in the women's race?
[20:18] SPEAKER_00: Oh yes.
[20:20] SPEAKER_04: What is the marathon course record?
[20:21] SPEAKER_04: 347.
[20:22] SPEAKER_04: Surely she's smashing.
[20:23] SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's the conditions, isn't it?
[20:25] SPEAKER_02: Like, you know, it's easy to say, oh, she could run quicker than that, but it's of course it's the conditions and how brutal a day we get next weekend.
[20:33] SPEAKER_02: Um, but for me right now, she is the most likely.
[20:37] SPEAKER_01: Wait, one my last thing, my last thing is I just can't wait to talk about course records all week.
[20:42] SPEAKER_01: I like swim course records, bike course records, run course records.
[20:46] SPEAKER_01: Let's do age group records in each age group, swim, bike, and run.
[20:51] SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna set up a booth and it's just gonna be like, come talk to me about course records, and I'm just gonna sit there all day, every day, and that's all I'm gonna do, Kona.
[20:57] SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Jack, I'm not doing the pods.
[20:58] SPEAKER_01: I just want to talk about course records.
[21:00] SPEAKER_04: We should set up, you know, that guy that goes to colleges and he has like a sign.
[21:05] SPEAKER_04: Come negotiate with me.
[21:06] SPEAKER_04: We've got Greg with a paper sign.
[21:08] SPEAKER_04: Tell me course records are worth talking about.
[21:10] SPEAKER_04: I like that.
[21:12] SPEAKER_01: That's actually a good idea, dude.
[21:13] SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna put that on my ideas list.
[21:15] SPEAKER_00: There's so many things we could do, like change my mind about with Greg, because he just has so many strokes in the comments.
[21:21] SPEAKER_00: Let's think about the best one and actually make this booth down on a lead drive or uh near the uh near the expo this week.
[21:28] SPEAKER_00: I think people would love that.
[21:29] SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
[21:40] SPEAKER_00: Unless you've been living under a rock, you already know that precision fuel and hydration make the best gels and electrolyte tablets in the game.
[21:48] SPEAKER_00: So, whatever you're training for, make sure you're using precision fuel and hydration to support your training.
[21:53] SPEAKER_00: And use the discount code TTH15 to get 15% off your first order through their website.
[21:58] SPEAKER_00: And when you do that, Please, we would love it if you could tell Prestigion that you heard about them through the Triton Hour.
[22:05] SPEAKER_00: It's easy to do, easy to fill out when you purchase anything on their website.
[22:21] SPEAKER_00: The next thing I wanted to talk about, guys, is I wanted all of us to just take a stab in the dark about something or multiple very specific and unexpected things that are probably realistic, like not that like a dolphin will come and eat Lucy Charles Barclay, like she's out in the front of the swim like Mala like Malachi had written down until I said no, it has to be specific and realistic, Malachi.
[22:44] SPEAKER_00: Um that will happen in the race this year.
[22:47] SPEAKER_00: Because you know how there's like multiple things that happen every year that no one predicted, like Taylor Nimb collapsing at at uh 39 kilometers into the run last year.
[22:54] SPEAKER_00: No one predicted that before the race started, but it happened.
[22:57] SPEAKER_00: So um I'll start us off.
[22:59] SPEAKER_00: I think that Magnus Ditliv, who everyone now thinks is no good and is done, turns back the clock, and he is the person responsible for riding Gustav and KB back to the front of the race.
[23:12] SPEAKER_00: Because everyone's thinking Sam Laidlow and Jonas Schomberg and Matthew Marquite and Jamie Riddle and all these hitters are going to be off the front of the bike and KB and Gustav are going to struggle behind.
[23:22] SPEAKER_00: But I think Magnus Ditlib is going to put on his Superman cape and it'll be like um yeah, it'll be like 2019 all over again.
[23:29] SPEAKER_00: This guy, who is he?
[23:30] SPEAKER_00: Like, and people will forgotten who he is because he hasn't been good for two years.
[23:33] SPEAKER_00: And I think that the the comeback of Magnus Ditliff is happening this week.
[23:36] SPEAKER_00: And I also think that Cat Matthews, I think her Achilles stuff is gonna pop back up at some point in the marathon, and there's gonna be a situation where it's like Kat Matthews is walking and like she just looks like she's limping.
[23:49] SPEAKER_00: Because I don't I don't know if you have Achilles stuff that's so bad, and then a couple of weeks later um you expect to get through a marathon, like you might like you just have to get lucky almost for that to happen, I think.
[23:59] SPEAKER_00: And and even though I think Kat's probably the best marathon runner in the sport, depending on what Julie Duron can do, I don't know.
[24:06] SPEAKER_00: I just I put myself in her position and she's got both Achilles that are neakly, not just one, and I just think that's such a brutal thing to go into Kona with.
[24:14] SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see a a double Achilles step off the course Cat Matthews.
[24:19] SPEAKER_02: I mean, at least she's balanced.
[24:20] SPEAKER_02: She's got both Achilles there.
[24:22] SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's probably very very little consolation.
[24:26] SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's the sort of thing you make a joke about, especially when someone is in Kona week now and they've got two niggling Achilles.
[24:33] SPEAKER_02: But yeah, on uh you're absolutely right.
[24:35] SPEAKER_02: She is at this moment the most proven um and therefore fastest marathon runner in female Iron Man, no question.
[24:44] SPEAKER_02: But there is a huge question over what she'll be able to do this week because of that injury that she's got.
[24:51] SPEAKER_02: So yeah, it's not it's not a complete stretch that that might happen by by any means.
[24:56] SPEAKER_02: Um I will do a couple.
[24:59] SPEAKER_02: I said uh Patrick Langer gets stuck by a jellyfish, a la Daniela Reef, 2018, and it turns him into having an insane race because he gets all the adrenaline rush of a of a jellyfish thing, and he turns back the clock and he's back on the podium.
[25:15] SPEAKER_02: So there you go, that's uh that's that's one for you.
[25:18] SPEAKER_02: Uh and the second one I went for is a bit of a generic boring one, but just that the run course record will go down.
[25:25] SPEAKER_02: Uh uh, both sexes, and I think Bloomy and Daron are the are the two that are gonna do it.
[25:30] SPEAKER_00: You should have seen for everyone listening at home Greg's face when Vicky said that, and like a big like signal.
[25:36] SPEAKER_00: Sulkinic sign.
[25:38] SPEAKER_01: I like how this is my favorite part.
[25:40] SPEAKER_01: Vicki's trying to mend the fences with Patrick Wang for the podcast.
[25:44] SPEAKER_01: Like that's selfless fiction.
[25:46] SPEAKER_01: We appreciate that.
[25:47] SPEAKER_01: Um, Patrick, friend of the show.
[25:49] SPEAKER_01: We hope you get stung by a jellyfish and get on the podium um this weekend on Catholic hour.
[25:53] SPEAKER_01: And Vicky Holland said that she hopes you get stung by a jellyfish so you can have a good race.
[25:57] SPEAKER_01: Kind of weird, but whatever.
[25:59] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, surely we just hope he has a good race minus the jellyfish.
[26:02] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but that wasn't the name of the jellyfish sting.
[26:06] SPEAKER_02: The segment was weird stuff that could happen that no one predicts, but yet will happen.
[26:12] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I like it.
[26:13] SPEAKER_00: Um, yeah, will he have to pee on his own jellyfish sting like um Danielle did in 2018?
[26:18] SPEAKER_02: Did she have to do that?
[26:19] SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
[26:19] SPEAKER_04: That's just part of triathlon racing, though, isn't it?
[26:22] SPEAKER_04: Peeing on yourself.
[26:22] SPEAKER_04: That's just normal.
[26:23] SPEAKER_00: That's a good point.
[26:24] SPEAKER_04: Even if you haven't been stung by a jellyfish.
[26:26] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but at least in Coney you can tell people you only pee on yourself because you got stung by a jellyfish.
[26:30] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, true.
[26:31] SPEAKER_04: Usually I have to find a jellyfish in the run course to try and pee myself.
[26:35] SPEAKER_04: Try and like sting with.
[26:36] SPEAKER_04: Anyway, I'm gonna move on.
[26:39] SPEAKER_04: So uh I I've got a couple of things.
[26:42] SPEAKER_04: The first one is that there'll be a 30-minute segment on Matthew Marquis being a doctor and leading the men's race as the USA athletes.
[26:50] SPEAKER_04: Because I was I was watching the race back on the turbo the other day, the whole the whole eight hours of the 2024 race, and they really bang on about the USA leading USA pros, like the top five USA, because obviously it's in America, but man, they're gonna have so much fun with Matthew Marquis and all his doctors and saving cancer and all that.
[27:11] SPEAKER_04: And he probably will saving cancer.
[27:14] SPEAKER_04: That's something that's really bad for me.
[27:17] SPEAKER_01: I want to save cancer.
[27:21] SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean.
[27:23] SPEAKER_04: Um the the second one is Greg's really gonna like this, but an age grouper is gonna beat the swim course record.
[27:30] SPEAKER_01: That's just so it's just so fucking wrong, it's unbelievable.
[27:32] SPEAKER_01: Like that record's not gonna be broken.
[27:34] SPEAKER_04: What's wrong about it?
[27:35] SPEAKER_04: Dude, they they will because they just one of them is just gonna absolutely smash it and have a little sit-down in transition.
[27:41] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they just get out, don't they, and then it's sit down once they've done the swim.
[27:43] SPEAKER_01: Sam asked you the one obliterated that record last time in perfect conditions and is way faster than anyone who's showing up to the races.
[27:50] SPEAKER_01: So that record's pretty untouchable, and that's will not happen at all.
[27:55] SPEAKER_01: Unless they're literally an Olympic swimmer, which they're probably not because they can't qualify for Kona.
[27:59] SPEAKER_01: But that record's untouchable.
[28:01] SPEAKER_01: So wrong.
[28:03] SPEAKER_04: Okay.
[28:04] SPEAKER_02: Well, my final one is we kind of already covered it, but I just say you looked a little bit like a schoolboy who just got told off then.
[28:13] SPEAKER_02: Just sort of your head went down.
[28:17] unknown: Okay.
[28:18] SPEAKER_04: Trying to bring original thoughts to this podcast and talking points, and Greg's just shoot me down.
[28:24] SPEAKER_04: You get used to that.
[28:25] SPEAKER_01: I I did agree, I didn't I didn't tell you this on your last segment.
[28:28] SPEAKER_01: Um, you were talking about I don't remember what, but I agreed with it.
[28:33] SPEAKER_01: But Vicky came in and agreed really too quick, and I didn't I didn't speak up.
[28:36] SPEAKER_01: I just want to say I agree with your last point.
[28:38] SPEAKER_01: That point though, bad.
[28:39] SPEAKER_01: But go ahead and talk about a friend of the show, Patrick Lang.
[28:42] SPEAKER_03: Okay.
[28:43] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was just gonna do a little bit on Patrick Lang because everybody seems to forget about him every single year when he doesn't race Kona, and then he comes and wins.
[28:52] SPEAKER_04: So I think he's gonna come back and win again, even though everyone has written him off.
[28:58] SPEAKER_00: I think that's the weirdest thing about our relationship with Patrick.
[29:01] SPEAKER_00: No one talks about Patrick all year, and we bring him up every single episode, and yet he still hates us.
[29:07] SPEAKER_00: Like, we're the only place that talks about you, and then watch this, watch this.
[29:11] SPEAKER_00: If he does win on the weekend, Malachi, everyone will suck up.
[29:14] SPEAKER_00: Everyone who has a podcast will say, Oh, oh, you can't doubt Patrick Langer.
[29:18] SPEAKER_00: He hasn't been mentioned on anyone else's podcast or YouTube literally once in 2026.
[29:23] SPEAKER_00: We bring him up every single week, and trust me, we'll be listed in his haters.
[29:27] SPEAKER_00: Like, we're keeping Patrick's career alive outside of Kona.
[29:30] SPEAKER_00: He goes and does his thing at Kona and he gets some sponsors, and then we carry the flame the rest of the year.
[29:35] SPEAKER_00: So at some point, Patrick Langer has to give us some credit for this.
[29:39] SPEAKER_04: I think he actually owes us some of that Erdinger sponsorship money, or maybe a couple of beers at least.
[29:44] SPEAKER_01: People don't realize what we do for the money and like the motivating we do for our athletes.
[29:49] SPEAKER_01: It's just like we're out here for everyone else.
[29:51] SPEAKER_01: You're welcome, everyone.
[29:53] SPEAKER_01: Um should I get into mine?
[29:55] SPEAKER_00: Rebecca Anderbury might win kinda this year.
[29:58] SPEAKER_01: Nah, you gotta get through Sarah's fence first.
[30:00] SPEAKER_01: Um Apos.
[30:04] SPEAKER_01: She's actually done quite well though.
[30:06] SPEAKER_00: She's been so good since we talked about her on the podcast.
[30:09] SPEAKER_00: I'm telling you, like literally another example of it.
[30:12] SPEAKER_01: It's like an anti-curse, this podcast.
[30:14] SPEAKER_01: Like, if if Greg's like sorry, I don't know why I'm talking to third person.
[30:17] SPEAKER_01: If I'm like talking shit on you, like that's a good thing.
[30:19] SPEAKER_01: You're gonna do probably good because I'm an idiot.
[30:22] SPEAKER_01: So like it just warps out for everyone involved.
[30:25] SPEAKER_01: And I'll I'm happily, I'll happily do that.
[30:27] SPEAKER_01: Um Malachi brought up the USA, and I wanted to make all my uh things about USA because um, you know, it's a world champion in the US.
[30:35] SPEAKER_01: So I said that fully, Trevor Foley is gonna ride himself into the top five and end up on the podium.
[30:42] SPEAKER_01: And I would say it's a little bit, I think it could be realistic.
[30:47] SPEAKER_01: He was actually on a crazy day before he crashed, um, what, two years ago?
[30:53] SPEAKER_01: Um, so it's very specific, but I think that's how Trevor gets on the podium.
[30:57] SPEAKER_01: I think that Matthew Marquot will cramp.
[31:00] SPEAKER_01: And I also think that he won't finish his Lego before the race, and it's really gonna mess up his headspace.
[31:12] unknown: What?
[31:14] SPEAKER_00: No, this is quite funny, Vicky.
[31:16] SPEAKER_00: So on Instagram, um, Matthew Marquat, he does two things that me and Greg just find funny, right?
[31:22] SPEAKER_00: So on one hand, he'll like post a reel where he'll be like, if I can get all of this stuff done, trust me, so can you because I'm so busy.
[31:31] SPEAKER_00: And then he'll be, I'm unboxing my new Star Wars Lego and I'm gonna finish this this week.
[31:35] SPEAKER_00: It's like this real contradiction of like, I'm the busiest guy in the world.
[31:38] SPEAKER_00: So if I can get everything done, then so can you.
[31:41] SPEAKER_00: But also, I'm gonna sit here on my couch and finish this really complex Lego for the next next 60 hours.
[31:47] SPEAKER_02: Genuine question, how does he manage to do that?
[31:49] SPEAKER_02: Like, I am actually baffled, like he must operate on a different level to me, because I don't understand how anyone has the time to do Lego, let alone people who are also professional athletes and doing he's not doing well, I was gonna say I was gonna say he's doing a medical degree, but he's done the medical degree, he's doing the next phase, whatever that is in America.
[32:09] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like I don't he's saving cancer.
[32:12] SPEAKER_02: Saving cancer from extinction.
[32:14] SPEAKER_01: Alright, let's be real.
[32:15] SPEAKER_01: He works like a part-time job, and he's a coach athlete.
[32:17] SPEAKER_01: Like okay, literally all of us do that, but okay, go ahead.
[32:22] SPEAKER_02: I mean, like, what are you a little bit jealous over there about?
[32:25] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I am jealous.
[32:26] SPEAKER_01: He's not good.
[32:27] SPEAKER_01: I want to be as good as him.
[32:29] SPEAKER_04: So I'm taking a demon of light throwing shade, so I think he's gonna win now.
[32:34] SPEAKER_00: Vicky, can you make that cat noise again?
[32:36] SPEAKER_00: I don't know if I've been caught up.
[32:37] SPEAKER_02: I'm a little bit self-conscious now.
[32:39] SPEAKER_02: I don't know if I want to do it.
[32:40] SPEAKER_01: It wasn't good.
[32:41] SPEAKER_01: It was good.
[32:45] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I've got the egg.
[32:46] SPEAKER_02: I've got the egg.
[32:48] SPEAKER_01: Oh no.
[32:49] SPEAKER_02: Mother kind of hold up for your mother.
[32:51] SPEAKER_04: Never do that again.
[32:53] SPEAKER_00: 50% of people are uh are turned on right now, and 50% I feel ashamed of myself.
[32:58] SPEAKER_00: I'm not gonna lie.
[32:59] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, everyone has their thing, Vicky.
[33:11] SPEAKER_00: If you're not using Nomeo in 2026, it's like not using an iPhone in 2016.
[33:16] SPEAKER_00: It's just time to catch up with the rest of the world.
[33:19] SPEAKER_00: The way you use Nomeo is on your big key training days, when you have a key training session, take it two to three hours before that training session.
[33:26] SPEAKER_00: And then on your race days, take it the night before you go to bed, and then three hours before the race on race morning.
[33:34] SPEAKER_00: Trust me, Nomeo works.
[33:36] SPEAKER_00: Everyone is using it.
[33:37] SPEAKER_00: There's a reason why.
[33:38] SPEAKER_00: So go and buy some Nomeo for yourself and try.
[33:50] SPEAKER_00: I'll move us on.
[33:52] SPEAKER_00: Um, someone that we're all really optimistic about, and someone that we're worried is probably the word, less optimistic about.
[34:00] SPEAKER_00: Not pessimistic, somewhere between worried and pessimistic about.
[34:04] SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm really optimistic about Gustav Eden.
[34:08] SPEAKER_00: I just his his performance at Nice at the 70.3 worlds finishing fourth went so under the radar.
[34:14] SPEAKER_00: Like he was so good and he was and he was strong late, and he just looks fit.
[34:19] SPEAKER_00: I reckon Gustav is the number one athlete in triathlon that you can do the eye test on.
[34:25] SPEAKER_00: Look at them, and you'll be able to tell how fit they are.
[34:28] SPEAKER_00: It's kind of like the Lance Armstrong um test from the the secret race, if people have listened to that book.
[34:33] SPEAKER_00: It's like they would just look at people and then they would go and pitch pinch their body fat as like a really toxic way to see if they're fit or not.
[34:40] SPEAKER_00: But I actually think you can do this with Gustav because I think he likes to live his life.
[34:44] SPEAKER_00: So you can you can see in Gustav's body, has he been a monk in training camp for six months, or has he been chilling out with his girlfriend and relaxing and not training as much?
[34:53] SPEAKER_00: And I look at him and I go, Oh, this is monk, Gustav Eden.
[34:57] SPEAKER_00: So I'm so optimistic about his race.
[35:00] SPEAKER_00: And my worried, it looked this is a personal one for me.
[35:03] SPEAKER_00: So um I obviously used to coach Penny Slater.
[35:06] SPEAKER_00: Um we worked together when she came seventh at the Iron Man World Championships, and I truly believe Penny is the caliber of athlete who could finish on the podium at Kona.
[35:16] SPEAKER_00: And I always said to her, I think Kona is the race that suits you more than Nice, and yet you finish seventh at Nice.
[35:22] SPEAKER_00: So I really, really think that she should finish on the podium at Kona in some point in her career.
[35:27] SPEAKER_00: But I'm just worried that she is gonna have a tough day.
[35:30] SPEAKER_00: And I think the trip to Australi from Australia to Kona is really tricky if you don't get it right.
[35:35] SPEAKER_00: I think you should go out there a long way ahead, like three, four weeks ahead.
[35:38] SPEAKER_00: Uh so I'm a little worried about Penny, just from a personal perspective, because I want to see her have a really good day.
[35:43] SPEAKER_04: I don't think there's any need to slate her though.
[35:51] SPEAKER_04: Okay, I'll move on to mine.
[35:52] SPEAKER_04: No?
[35:53] SPEAKER_04: Okay, so my most optimistic, and I put this in the group chat a couple of times.
[35:59] SPEAKER_04: Have you only just got my joke?
[36:01] SPEAKER_00: Oh, just laughing at how no one laughed at it.
[36:04] SPEAKER_00: Like everyone just sits there awkwardly in silence.
[36:07] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but it's good because you'll edit it to make it sound like I'm really funny, won't you?
[36:11] SPEAKER_04: Insert laugh track here.
[36:13] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
[36:14] SPEAKER_04: Put some like fake laughing in, please.
[36:16] SPEAKER_00: That's quite funny.
[36:17] SPEAKER_00: It was good, Malachi.
[36:18] SPEAKER_00: I quite enjoyed it.
[36:19] SPEAKER_04: Thanks, yeah.
[36:20] SPEAKER_04: So my most optimistic is Kieran Linders, and I put his name in the group chat because he got really annoyed and Cam Main, because they kind of come together from their Iron Man Texas results earlier in the year.
[36:32] SPEAKER_04: And I think did we well, not we, but you, Jack, you put a post on about the top 30 athletes for Kona, and they weren't even on there, even though they came like 13th and 14th in Texas, which everyone was banging on about it being a world-class field.
[36:50] SPEAKER_04: So I just think Kieran Linda's, and I guess it comes alongside with Cam Main.
[36:55] SPEAKER_04: I don't want to put them in the same boat, but I think they're gonna do way better than everyone's expecting.
[37:00] SPEAKER_04: That's my most optimistic.
[37:02] SPEAKER_04: You shaking your head, Greg.
[37:04] SPEAKER_01: Well, I just feel like the UK boys are all like sensitive.
[37:07] SPEAKER_01: Like they're like, they're all upset that Jack didn't posted it, and then you know, like you guys have this like tight little knit group, and it's like we can't talk and smack on you guys because you guys are gonna like be like I don't know.
[37:20] SPEAKER_04: Well, the UK is pretty small, and we're all friends here.
[37:23] SPEAKER_04: Every single one of us lives basically next door.
[37:25] SPEAKER_04: So if you insult one of us, we will fight back.
[37:28] SPEAKER_04: So I I took it personally as well.
[37:30] SPEAKER_04: I was also mad that Jack didn't put Kieran and Cam in the top 30.
[37:34] SPEAKER_01: I like the Kieran Linders one though.
[37:36] SPEAKER_01: He uh I feel like he could be sneaky, he can he'll run, he'll probably run well.
[37:40] SPEAKER_01: So if he yeah executes a good race.
[37:42] SPEAKER_01: I think that's a good one actually.
[37:43] SPEAKER_04: He was so sneaky in 2024 because he was on the he was in the front pack literally the whole way into T2 and he didn't get mentioned once because no one knew who he was.
[37:55] SPEAKER_04: He was just like hiding there.
[37:57] SPEAKER_04: And then he where did he come?
[37:58] SPEAKER_04: Was it fifth, sixth?
[38:01] SPEAKER_04: But he did he had a really good race and nobody even mentioned him until he came down the finish line.
[38:05] SPEAKER_04: So I just also wanted to give him some some screen time as well.
[38:09] SPEAKER_00: Those rankings, those rankings I did weren't actually about Kona, by the way.
[38:13] SPEAKER_00: They were the gut feel power rankings.
[38:15] SPEAKER_00: They were like, what is everyone's gut feel on where the best Iron Man athlete is in the world right now?
[38:20] SPEAKER_00: And yes, Kieran and Cam did get quite upset about that.
[38:23] SPEAKER_00: But I actually posted a reel that had a lot of views about Kieran one day, and he didn't even he didn't even say thank you for that.
[38:30] SPEAKER_00: So um yeah, I feel like it's balanced out now.
[38:33] SPEAKER_00: And I think he finished eighth at Kona that day, Malachi, off the top of my head to answer your question.
[38:38] SPEAKER_04: Um so a great performance.
[38:40] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's good.
[38:40] SPEAKER_00: Kieran will be good at Kona.
[38:42] SPEAKER_00: I think Kieran is suited to Kona as well, the way the race plays out.
[38:46] SPEAKER_00: Um I think he's really smart in how he races, which I think benefits you in Kona.
[38:50] SPEAKER_00: I I fully expect Kieran to be somewhere from fifth to fifteenth in the race.
[38:55] SPEAKER_00: I'd be very, very shocked if he was further down the field than that.
[38:58] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he's a good championship racer.
[39:00] SPEAKER_04: Um so on to my most worried, and this might I don't want this to come across like badly, but it's Daisy Davis.
[39:07] SPEAKER_04: And it's not like for I'm actually worried about her, it's just that she's been really good all year and is gonna be racing for probably podium top five on her first time in Kona, and I'm worried that she'll get really excited and absolutely blow up and die.
[39:24] SPEAKER_04: I'm not saying that she should do that, but I'm just like she's gonna be racing with like super high expectations, and I'm I'm scared.
[39:32] SPEAKER_04: I'm actually worried.
[39:33] SPEAKER_02: So, do you you think like her relative inexperience combined with her excitement is possibly gonna make her come a cropper?
[39:42] SPEAKER_02: Is that what you're saying?
[39:43] SPEAKER_04: I think it's it's similar to how I mean I'm nowhere near Daisy Davis level, but if I was to go and race Kona and I knew I was gonna be near the front out of the swim, I'd be worried for myself that I'd get super carried away and then just absolutely blow up and do a Taylor nib and just collapse.
[39:59] SPEAKER_04: So I'm I'm worried, but it's not for any bad reason, just that she's gonna be near the front and may get carried away.
[40:05] SPEAKER_01: I like that.
[40:06] SPEAKER_01: That's a smart.
[40:07] SPEAKER_01: All right, hey Malachi, great, too optimistic, and most worried.
[40:11] SPEAKER_01: I think those are excellent, and you're a champion of the podcast.
[40:14] SPEAKER_00: Now he did say he did just say that Daisy Davis was gonna be near the front of the race, though.
[40:19] SPEAKER_00: He does realise like Lucy Charles Barclays here, Taylor Nibbs here.
[40:22] SPEAKER_00: Like Daisy's not gonna be near the front of the race at any point.
[40:25] SPEAKER_00: And if anything, this is a race where she can kind of like settle in and do her own thing, I reckon.
[40:29] SPEAKER_04: No, she will be near the front.
[40:30] SPEAKER_04: She's gonna come out, she's not gonna be with with Taylor and Lucy, but she'll be in that main pack.
[40:34] SPEAKER_04: Like, she's no like Cat Matthews swimmer.
[40:37] SPEAKER_04: She's gonna be like, she's gonna be up in the middle.
[40:39] SPEAKER_04: Sure, of course.
[40:40] SPEAKER_04: She did like Vicky did the claws do the noise part.
[40:44] SPEAKER_00: Vicky just did the claws on the chat, but she didn't do the noise part.
[40:47] SPEAKER_02: Vicky, do the noise part.
[40:49] SPEAKER_02: Like, might have been a bit cuty over there.
[40:51] SPEAKER_02: That's all I'm saying, Malachi.
[40:55] SPEAKER_04: She she's a good swimmer.
[40:57] SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
[40:58] SPEAKER_01: I'm done with that.
[40:58] SPEAKER_01: Speaking of good swimmers, my optimistic is Taylor Nib.
[41:02] SPEAKER_01: I think she's just gonna dominate this race, and I want to see her dominate it.
[41:04] SPEAKER_01: And you know, it this is kind of an easy one because she's been racing so good, but I'm just so optimistic.
[41:09] SPEAKER_01: And I feel like Taylor takes learnings really well.
[41:13] SPEAKER_01: So what she did last year, like she just didn't come into this year, and she's just gonna be like, I've checked every single box to make sure I that's not happening, and I'm gonna do what I need to do to win this race.
[41:24] SPEAKER_01: So uh that's what I think kind of who Taylor is.
[41:27] SPEAKER_01: Um most worried.
[41:29] SPEAKER_01: I'm going Christian Blumenfeld.
[41:32] SPEAKER_01: And here's why.
[41:34] SPEAKER_01: I'm just worried about like I'm worried about his mindset a little bit.
[41:38] SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you guys watched the fighting chance video that they put out, and he he made this ploy.
[41:44] SPEAKER_01: He's like, Sam Laidlow, don't pull Martin Real around on this bike course.
[41:49] SPEAKER_01: It's just like, why do you care what other people are doing, Christian?
[41:52] SPEAKER_01: Like he he's so confident to me, Christian, but I feel like he lacks this like last little bit that he's fully confident that he can win this race, and he thinks that other people's dynamics might prevent him from winning.
[42:04] SPEAKER_01: So that's why I'm a little bit worried about it.
[42:06] SPEAKER_01: And I'm also just worried about it, because we're we're boys.
[42:09] SPEAKER_01: First, like mental health if he gets second place again.
[42:12] SPEAKER_01: Like, he's gonna be down bad.
[42:14] SPEAKER_01: And he's just gonna like, I feel like he's gonna be so sad, even though it's so amazing.
[42:18] SPEAKER_01: I just like I'm worried for him.
[42:20] SPEAKER_01: I just want him to be happy and healthy in his life.
[42:22] SPEAKER_01: And if he gets second, I think he's not gonna be, he's not gonna be feeling good, and it's gonna be a sad sight to see.
[42:28] SPEAKER_00: It does give me the vibe that he there's only so many seconds in these big races that Christian can handle before he goes from this like happy, bubbly, nothing affects him, to he snaps and he murders Casper, Gustav, Olaf Alexander Boo, cops a bullet in the back of the head.
[42:43] SPEAKER_00: Like, I reckon it goes from the happiest, friendliest guy on the planet to everyone around him.
[42:48] SPEAKER_00: He's dead.
[42:49] SPEAKER_00: Wow.
[42:52] SPEAKER_01: So I'm telling you, dude, it's like he's all smiley, but it's just like it's just gonna be a snap, you know.
[42:57] SPEAKER_01: You know where Lionel used to say he races for anger.
[42:59] SPEAKER_01: So Christians can be like, all right, 2027, I race angry now and I hate everyone.
[43:04] SPEAKER_01: And hey, maybe that would be the secret to his success.
[43:06] SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Jack, I think uh, I think you might be on something there.
[43:09] SPEAKER_02: Alright, well, my most optimistic is Lucy Charles Barclay, probably for the similar reasons Gregor's to you said with Taylor.
[43:17] SPEAKER_02: Like, I just think she won't have left any box unchecked for this race.
[43:22] SPEAKER_02: We already know she flew out of Kona to avoid any potential interruptions with the hurricane with the storm that was coming.
[43:29] SPEAKER_02: Private skipped private chair.
[43:31] SPEAKER_02: There you go.
[43:32] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, can we talk about that?
[43:34] SPEAKER_04: Because I wasn't here last week.
[43:35] SPEAKER_04: Do we know how much she's spent on that thing?
[43:37] SPEAKER_04: Because that is none of your business, Malachi.
[43:39] SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you one thing I know, Malachi.
[43:40] SPEAKER_00: Just rough estimate did not make a dent into her savings account.
[43:43] SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you that.
[43:45] SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, so just another example right there of Lucy doing the right thing for her to get the best performance out.
[43:53] SPEAKER_02: She skips Nice for the exact same reasons, the best performance in Kona.
[43:56] SPEAKER_02: It's it's all about Kona for her this year.
[43:59] SPEAKER_02: And yeah.
[44:00] SPEAKER_02: She had surgery early on in the year, but she's had a pretty good run of things since then, a good return to racing.
[44:06] SPEAKER_02: She seems to have hunkered down and done the training, spent a long time in Lanzarotti again.
[44:10] SPEAKER_02: Like I just think she will be absolutely chomping at the bit, having not been in Nice and watched that championship go on without her.
[44:18] SPEAKER_02: I think that will have fueled her even more.
[44:21] SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I just think she's she's gonna deliver something pretty special.
[44:25] SPEAKER_02: So she's who I'm most optimistic about and then most worried.
[44:30] SPEAKER_02: And I'm torn between thinking this is spin and this is real.
[44:35] SPEAKER_02: But I was listening again to our good friends uh Aaron Royal Yellagines over on All In Trathlon.
[44:42] SPEAKER_02: And Martin was the guest on their show this week, and he was talking about how he's actually just not in a very good place.
[44:48] SPEAKER_02: And he said that he raced in Nice and he thinks that he well, he wasn't well when he raced in Nice, he didn't have a good result there, and that he's taking him a long time to try and recover and he's not feeling very good.
[45:00] SPEAKER_02: So for that reason, I've put in, you know, that I'm worried about him because it's a very hard place now that he's in to try and recover and get into prime shape in less than a week.
[45:08] SPEAKER_02: And obviously the mental impact of just having a really rough few weeks is really hard.
[45:13] SPEAKER_02: But then I got to thinking and I was like, is this just spin?
[45:16] SPEAKER_02: Is he just putting this out there in the public forum?
[45:19] SPEAKER_02: So everybody just goes, Oh, Martin's uh Martin's not been well, he won't pull any turns.
[45:25] SPEAKER_02: Sam Laidlow, don't expect anything from Martin.
[45:28] SPEAKER_02: Don't don't expect him to pull pull turns in that swim bike group, lads.
[45:31] SPEAKER_02: No, don't expect much from him on the marathon.
[45:33] SPEAKER_02: And then he goes and wins the thing.
[45:34] SPEAKER_02: So I'm sort of torn between thinking it was genuine and it was um a very clever ploy.
[45:40] SPEAKER_02: And I hope it was a clever ploy because Martin was on my podium, to be honest, my my podium predictions, but I am a little bit worried.
[45:49] SPEAKER_04: It would be really impressive if he'd gone to 70.3 worlds and just pretended to be ill.
[45:55] SPEAKER_02: I don't think that spin.
[45:57] SPEAKER_02: I think the spin is everything that's happened since then.
[46:01] SPEAKER_04: That's like Sam Laido levels of mind games.
[46:03] SPEAKER_04: Um the other podcasts, I'm not uh I haven't heard of that one.
[46:12] SPEAKER_04: I only listen to the Triathlon hour.
[46:14] SPEAKER_04: Only when you're on it as well.
[46:15] SPEAKER_04: I haven't got any insight knowledge.
[46:17] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I don't listen to it when I'm not here.
[46:19] SPEAKER_04: So this is all the gossip I really get out of triathlon.
[46:22] SPEAKER_04: It's just really informative and such a great podcast.
[46:27] SPEAKER_01: You're already on the podcast, dude.
[46:29] SPEAKER_01: You don't need to like try to keep your spot.
[46:31] SPEAKER_01: You're you're good, dog.
[46:32] SPEAKER_04: But I'm making up for the miss weeks.
[46:34] SPEAKER_04: I'm making sure I don't get fired.
[46:36] SPEAKER_00: Uh if we wanted to fire you, it would have come on the third week in a row when you like didn't show up and had internet issues.
[46:42] SPEAKER_00: We want you here, mate, for those um amazing puns and jokes.
[46:45] SPEAKER_04: I said three words and you left in.
[46:47] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I I didn't tell you guys about this, Vicky and Greg, but we couldn't hear Malachi.
[46:51] SPEAKER_02: No, I didn't hear though when I was so surprised when those three words came on, because I was like, hang on, you didn't say anything.
[46:57] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, then but then because we record locally, so it just records what's going through your computer and not what goes over the Wi-Fi.
[47:04] SPEAKER_00: Um, and we're here.
[47:05] SPEAKER_00: So we're just thinking Malachi's silent, and then I'm doing the edit, and Malachi's trying to answer the questions, and we're just all like completely ignoring that.
[47:14] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I was like, why has everyone been so rude to get it?
[47:19] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but then you know it took like two hours for those four words to upload.
[47:23] SPEAKER_04: So I was just sat there at 10 o'clock at night and Jack phoned me.
[47:27] SPEAKER_04: He woke me up and he was like, Can you press upload on those four words you said?
[47:30] SPEAKER_04: Because it wouldn't work the rest of the podcast.
[47:33] SPEAKER_00: Back to Vicky's point um about Martin Van Riel.
[47:36] SPEAKER_00: Reese Barclay posted something, or maybe Lucy did, and Reese posted on her behalf.
[47:40] SPEAKER_00: I can't remember how it happened, but Reese was involved, and it was that the work was done weeks ago, and that you can't really affect your race and get super fit in the two weeks at Kona leading up to the race.
[47:52] SPEAKER_00: Maybe you can get used to the conditions and do some um top-up work, but the work was done weeks ago.
[47:58] SPEAKER_00: And I think that the people who are going to win this race, the work was done well before 70.3 world championships, wasn't it?
[48:04] SPEAKER_00: So Martin going into 70.3 worlds wasn't going to get that much fitter before Kona.
[48:10] SPEAKER_00: Probably not to the point where it dictates whether he comes 10th or 3rd, or you know, it's not that big a gap.
[48:15] SPEAKER_00: So I think if Martin is fit and healthy and injury free, he's just going to be at the front of the race.
[48:22] SPEAKER_00: Now he might not have that one or two percent needed to win the race, but I'd be shocked, Vicky, if Martin wasn't fighting for a top five all day.
[48:30] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but the that's not the the fitness isn't the question.
[48:33] SPEAKER_02: The f the problem is if you've raced sick and then made yourself worse and to the point where you've buried yourself in a hole that you can't get out of.
[48:41] SPEAKER_02: That's basically what Hayden did earlier this year.
[48:43] SPEAKER_02: And it took him a while, right, to come round.
[48:45] SPEAKER_02: And he has come round very, very well.
[48:48] SPEAKER_02: But he raced sick, he then went to or sorry, he didn't race, he got sick, he then decided to still travel out to San Francisco and race, buried himself in that race, and it took him ages to get over that.
[49:00] SPEAKER_02: And that's the worry, isn't it?
[49:01] SPEAKER_02: Like you put yourself through that really hard effort when you're not well, and it can take a really long time.
[49:06] SPEAKER_02: So I agree with you.
[49:07] SPEAKER_02: He's done the work was done ages ago.
[49:09] SPEAKER_02: I totally agree with that point.
[49:10] SPEAKER_02: I just worry that by racing in Nice when he wasn't well, instead of saying, I desperately want to race this, but it's not the smart decision I'm not going to, I worry that that might have had an effect.
[49:21] SPEAKER_01: But is that really what happened to Hayden, though?
[49:23] SPEAKER_01: Is the thing?
[49:24] SPEAKER_01: Like maybe it was the same shit where he just is like he wanted some Hayden.
[49:29] SPEAKER_02: Are you meant to be making friends with Hayden?
[49:32] SPEAKER_01: No, no, Hayden just had a mess, it's a smart move.
[49:34] SPEAKER_01: He had a massive target on his back, like all year, because he's the best middle business athlete in the world.
[49:38] SPEAKER_01: And we were going into 70.3 worlds, and there's literally people like Dean, like, eh, I don't know if Hayden's gonna win.
[49:43] SPEAKER_01: But because he had like deflected all year, he's like, oh, I'm all sick and stuff, and then he goes and like does four weeks that honestly was quite impressive.
[49:51] SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean he didn't win them all.
[49:52] SPEAKER_01: He didn't win them all, but you know.
[49:55] SPEAKER_02: The other side of the coin then, because like I said, he's either we're either very worried about him or it's total spin, right?
[50:01] SPEAKER_01: Well that's so But that Mart, I don't know Martin, you guys know Martin better than Jack does too.
[50:05] SPEAKER_01: He doesn't really seem like that type of guy to like do that.
[50:09] SPEAKER_01: He seems to kind of like wear his heart on the sleeve a little bit more, but I don't know.
[50:12] SPEAKER_01: Jack, maybe you have some insight.
[50:14] SPEAKER_01: He just doesn't seem like the guy who would be really that elaborate in playing mind games.
[50:18] SPEAKER_01: Like he just wants to show up and race and like do his thing.
[50:21] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Aaron Royal, who Greg absolutely hates, and Aaron hates Greg, that's like they actually hate each other, which is quite funny.
[50:27] SPEAKER_00: So that's why Vicki always brings up the bigger.
[50:28] SPEAKER_00: It's ridiculous as well.
[50:29] SPEAKER_00: Like it pisses Greg off so much afterwards.
[50:37] SPEAKER_00: Why do you always have to do that?
[50:38] SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's so funny.
[50:40] SPEAKER_02: Actually, I quite like Aaron.
[50:41] SPEAKER_02: Screw you, Greg.
[50:43] SPEAKER_01: Pick sides now, Vicky.
[50:45] SPEAKER_01: I've known you for one year and you know Aaron for a decade, but you need to pick my side immediately.
[50:51] SPEAKER_01: And the rest of it.
[50:52] SPEAKER_00: And I've never Yeah, I don't have any insight, Greg.
[50:55] SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
[50:56] SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
[50:56] SPEAKER_00: But let's watch these base with Martin this week and and maybe we can all listen to uh Aaron's podcast, which is the best podcast in triathlon, Greg, and um get some details throughout the week.
[51:17] SPEAKER_00: I love personalized one-on-one triathlon coaching, but I also realize there's so many people out there who aren't ready for that commitment, or maybe more importantly, just can't afford to do it.
[51:29] SPEAKER_00: So if you're one of those people, I have your solution.
[51:32] SPEAKER_00: Go to the app store and download Stamina.

[51:56] SPEAKER_00: So there's really nothing to lose.
[51:58] SPEAKER_00: Go and download Stamina, try it for yourself for a week.
[52:01] SPEAKER_00: And if you love it, keep using it until you're ready to go and commit to a one-on-one coach or can afford it.
[52:17] SPEAKER_00: Guys, we just want to do a short, punchy one today because we've got a week full of podcasts and other content coming your way.
[52:23] SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna end it with a list and then we've got a few little things that we want to clean up and chat about, and then we'll wrap it up and we'll all fly to Kona and we'll be in your ears every single day, as best we can, unless Greg gets eaten by a shark.
[52:36] SPEAKER_00: Um, my list is the top five biggest mistakes people make going into their A race for the year.
[52:44] SPEAKER_00: Honourable mention is they travel like dummies.
[52:47] SPEAKER_00: I think if you've got one race that you care about all week and you've got to get on a flight to do it and travel across the world or across your country, just do the travel right.
[52:56] SPEAKER_00: Like wear a mask, don't worry about how it feels or how you how you look.
[52:59] SPEAKER_00: Buy a little hand sanitizer thing, use it every five to ten minutes.
[53:03] SPEAKER_00: Don't eat stupid food on an airplane that you're not used to.
[53:06] SPEAKER_00: Like, just do the travel right, make some sacrifices during that travel that you might not want to.
[53:12] SPEAKER_00: Like, it's the only travel that really matters for the year.
[53:14] SPEAKER_00: You can get sick or you know, feel shit in the stomach on any other travel, it doesn't matter.
[53:19] SPEAKER_00: So just don't travel like a dummy.
[53:21] SPEAKER_00: Number five, the first one on the actual list though, is they focus too much on things they can't control.
[53:28] SPEAKER_00: Like they constantly check the weather app, or they're looking at their competitors' race times, or you know, if it's an age grouper, like, oh, who's this person in the race, or this person, or this person, or don't worry.
[53:40] SPEAKER_00: Just focus on yourself.
[53:42] SPEAKER_00: Because at the end of the day, the same thing happens after every time you start a race and get into a race, you realize it doesn't matter what's going on around you.
[53:51] SPEAKER_00: It's all about how you feel on the day and what you do on the day.
[53:54] SPEAKER_00: So stop focusing on things you can't control.
[53:57] SPEAKER_00: Number four, worrying about what other people are doing at all times throughout the year, especially people who are doing their key race.
[54:06] SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of goes into number five, but it's a little bit different because people become a bit obsessed about their A race, so they will go on Strava too much and stalk other people they're knowing they know on Strava who are doing their race, or like maybe they've got friends who are doing the race, so they look at what they're doing and they try and copy it, or they worry about, oh, should I be doing that?
[54:24] SPEAKER_00: No, stop worrying about what other people are doing.
[54:27] SPEAKER_00: Go back to point number five, which is just focus on yourself.
[54:30] SPEAKER_00: At number three, they begin a self-sabotaging behavior and it comes out of nowhere.
[54:36] SPEAKER_00: They might suddenly start getting nervous about their race, so they start binge eating or overeating out of nowhere, or maybe they under eat because they think they've got to be skinnier, or maybe they start over hydrating because it's a hot race and they just drink way too much during race week and they start smacking electrolyte tablets like they're going out of sale.
[54:53] SPEAKER_00: Um, or maybe they stop drinking caffeine because they want to bring it back into the race, and then they start drinking too much caffeine a few days out from the race, and then their stomach's fucked, or you know, whatever it is.
[55:03] SPEAKER_00: They don't sleep enough due to stress, or they you they start sitting on their phone all day because they're so stressed and and and trying to take their mind off the race, or they start ghosting their training partners and not replying to their friends, or start being an asshole to their husband or wife.
[55:18] SPEAKER_00: Um Yeah, I just think so many people start being weird and start self-sabotaging when a big race is upon us.
[55:25] SPEAKER_00: So don't self-sabotage, just live as close to your normal life as possible for as long as possible up to your big race.
[55:32] SPEAKER_00: At number two, they think about everything with fear and anxiety as the drivers in what's dictating their emotions rather than opportunity and excitement.
[55:45] SPEAKER_00: Whenever you feel yourself getting fearful or anxious about anything on race week or leading into the race or the night before the race when you're trying to go to sleep, replace it with an excited or optimistic thought that will really change everything about how you see the race.
[56:02] SPEAKER_00: And at number one, they talk too bloody much about their race, especially to people not in their team.
[56:09] SPEAKER_00: Stop fucking talking about your race.
[56:12] SPEAKER_00: Like you can talk your race to death, and before you know it, you've used up all this nervous energy that could have been used more productively on race day.
[56:20] SPEAKER_00: Try your best to forget that your race exists, apart from just, you know, a little bit of chat here and there, and you know what's going on, but like I said in an earlier point, just try and live your life as normally as possible for as long as possible, and stop talking about your race 24-7 because it doesn't make you race better, it almost exclusively makes your race worse.
[56:38] SPEAKER_04: Can I can I add a point zero?
[56:40] SPEAKER_04: Because we kind of covered it before when you were talking about Martin and the work being done like two weeks before, you're not going to get like literally any fitter in two weeks before your race by overtraining and doing stuff.
[56:53] SPEAKER_04: So if your race week's going like really bad, it's super stressful, and external factors like Jack was talking about, the best thing you can do is just sit back and relax rather than being stressed out and using all that mental and physical energy.
[57:05] SPEAKER_04: So if you get to race week in Kona and you've spent all day at the expo and you got sunburnt, just you know, maybe don't do the bike session in the evening, just chill out, enjoy watching the turtles and all that.
[57:16] SPEAKER_04: That's what I'm going to be doing next week.
[57:17] SPEAKER_01: I feel like this list was the I coach Ari Clau and Greg Harper list.
[57:23] SPEAKER_02: And I feel slightly attached.
[57:25] SPEAKER_02: Which ones do you identify with the most?
[57:27] SPEAKER_01: Is it all of them?
[57:28] SPEAKER_01: Number two is like specifically at me, because Jack is just like, you're like fearful, you're like a scared little boy.
[57:34] SPEAKER_01: Like, oh, here's the bike, like you're scared.
[57:36] SPEAKER_01: And it's it's true to be honest.
[57:38] SPEAKER_02: That's why you want to be able to do that.
[57:39] SPEAKER_01: But the self-sabotage stuff is like that's 100% Ari.
[57:43] SPEAKER_01: He's just like, Jack has to like play a father figure in our lives, and like, yeah, but anyway, that's just a little insight to the Jack Kelly method.
[57:50] SPEAKER_01: But I will say, Jack is quite a good coach, and I feel like he reads athletes quite well.
[57:55] SPEAKER_01: So uh, those are some good things uh that you listed off, Jack.
[57:58] SPEAKER_01: So thanks for sharing that knowledge.
[58:00] SPEAKER_00: And Vicky obviously wouldn't know because she's never raced long-distance triathlon in her life and is therefore a loser.
[58:05] SPEAKER_00: And I hate her.
[58:07] SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Jack.
[58:08] SPEAKER_02: I love you too.
[58:10] SPEAKER_00: All right, that's the podcast done for today.
[58:12] SPEAKER_00: Guys, we're doing daily podcasts in Hawaii on the big island of Kona.
[58:17] SPEAKER_00: Um, we're really excited about it.
[58:18] SPEAKER_00: The pods might not be the biggest focus of our week.
[58:21] SPEAKER_00: In fact, they're not the biggest focus of our week.
[58:23] SPEAKER_00: We're still gonna try and pump them out for you.
[58:25] SPEAKER_00: We're gonna try and give you 30 to 45 minutes of real high octane fun every day.
[58:29] SPEAKER_00: Malachi, Greg, myself, Apo, we're gonna be sitting there on a couch together just talking shit.
[58:34] SPEAKER_00: We might get an athlete to float in every now and then.
[58:37] SPEAKER_00: But that's not what we've been spending our time on.
[58:39] SPEAKER_00: We've been planning other stuff that we're gonna do throughout the week, you know, like Greg and Apo having a boxing fight on the Wednesday night, for example, and potentially doing a marathon on the on the bit worried about that, like actually fighting.
[58:51] SPEAKER_00: Oh, the the more worrying thing is that like 700 people clicked that they were in Kona and want to come and watch it.
[58:56] SPEAKER_00: So we might have like a legit police situation enhanced.
[58:59] SPEAKER_04: Like, I think I'd be so good.
[59:02] SPEAKER_04: We need to get like a DJ and we can have the the soundtrack that you played at the start.
[59:06] SPEAKER_04: Get your chum scene as well.
[59:08] SPEAKER_04: We can have that and we can roll.
[59:10] SPEAKER_04: Oh, this is gonna be so good.
[59:12] SPEAKER_00: I'm worried that it's gonna become something that could land us all in jail, and I don't think we want to be in in jail during this week.
[59:18] SPEAKER_00: So yeah, I know we have to think about what we're gonna do there.
[59:21] SPEAKER_00: But I'm kind of dancing around what we're actually gonna do because I'm not gonna tell you yet.
[59:26] SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you once we've started it, but we're doing fun stuff this week and we are making a lot of content that you're gonna be able to watch.
[59:32] SPEAKER_00: I think it's gonna be the best content we've ever made, it's just not podcasts, so keep an eye on this space.
[59:37] SPEAKER_00: Um, guys, I wanted your opinion on two things quickly.
[59:41] SPEAKER_04: Wait, one second.
[59:42] SPEAKER_04: Can we just go back to that?
[59:43] SPEAKER_04: We're making content and it's not podcasts, and it's the best thing we've ever made.
[59:47] SPEAKER_00: I didn't sign up for any kind of content that's why you're talking about pornography.
[59:52] SPEAKER_00: No, no, Malachi, we don't want to have sex with you.
[59:54] SPEAKER_00: I didn't say that word.
[59:55] SPEAKER_00: Well, I can't speak about what Greg wants to do with you.
[59:57] SPEAKER_00: Whatever you guys do in your own bedrooms during the week at Hawaii is your own business.
[1:00:01] SPEAKER_00: I don't care.
[1:00:02] SPEAKER_00: But I will not have a camera there.
[1:00:03] SPEAKER_00: Unless you want me to.
[1:00:04] SPEAKER_01: Malachi posts his own bedroom on the internet for 80,000 people to see, so it's like him and his girlfriend underneath.
[1:00:10] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, were you and your girlfriend actually naked in that reel?
[1:00:13] SPEAKER_04: Well, I had to blur out no, she had a bra on, but it was just the straps down.
[1:00:18] SPEAKER_04: So she was clothed, but then I I was editing it and there was a bit of a slip, so there is a blur.
[1:00:23] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you you did a if you want to go follow me on Instagram.
[1:00:27] SPEAKER_00: You did a real good job of flooring.
[1:00:28] SPEAKER_04: Your girlfriend is very relaxed.
[1:00:30] SPEAKER_02: You're very lucky.
[1:00:32] SPEAKER_02: She's she's doing a lot for you and your content, that's all I can say.
[1:00:35] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but she's coming to Kona for free, so who's laughing now?
[1:00:38] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, okay, fair.
[1:00:39] SPEAKER_00: Oh, Vicky and Malachi.
[1:00:41] SPEAKER_00: I've got one more test before we wrap it up.
[1:00:43] SPEAKER_00: Malachi, tell Vicky and Greg your girlfriend's name.
[1:00:48] SPEAKER_00: Eve.
[1:00:49] SPEAKER_00: Greg, spell Malachi's girlfriend's name.
[1:00:53] SPEAKER_01: Eve.
[1:00:58] SPEAKER_04: Vicky?
[1:00:59] SPEAKER_04: You're so wrong.
[1:00:59] SPEAKER_04: How could you be so?
[1:01:01] SPEAKER_02: Um I know because I've seen it.
[1:01:02] SPEAKER_02: Um, but it's Irish, Eve.
[1:01:04] SPEAKER_02: So it's like A O I B H E or something like that.
[1:01:09] SPEAKER_02: Is that right?
[1:01:10] SPEAKER_04: Yeah, close enough, just about the E on the end.
[1:01:12] SPEAKER_01: But you just make shit up if you're Irish?
[1:01:15] SPEAKER_01: Like, what the fuck, man?
[1:01:16] SPEAKER_02: I'm like, there we go, let's just defend a whole nation.
[1:01:19] SPEAKER_02: Off your pop, Greg.
[1:01:21] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[1:01:21] SPEAKER_04: I mean, like, what the I mean, she's not even Irish.
[1:01:24] SPEAKER_04: Her accent's so British.
[1:01:25] SPEAKER_04: She's proper posh and all that.
[1:01:27] SPEAKER_04: So she you can insult her all you want, but the Irish might not like it.
[1:01:30] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, actually, I don't I'm Irish are they're there's I feel like they're they're fighters, so I don't know.
[1:01:35] SPEAKER_02: There'll be a lot of Irish people in New York, Greg.
[1:01:37] SPEAKER_01: So I'm everyone in New York degree.
[1:01:39] SPEAKER_02: So I know, but you live in New York, so I'm just saying, watch out.
[1:01:42] SPEAKER_01: My neighborhood's Italian, though, not Irish.
[1:01:44] SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I had a couple of questions I was gonna ask you guys.
[1:01:46] SPEAKER_00: I'll ask you on the first podcast.
[1:01:47] SPEAKER_00: Let's wrap it up there with Greg having offended an entire nation, particularly an entire nation that have gangsters in his own city and are probably now gonna come and kill him.
[1:01:55] SPEAKER_00: Malachi, Vicki, Greg, particularly Malachi and Greg.
[1:01:59] SPEAKER_00: It was such an honor and a privilege to have you here today.
[1:02:01] SPEAKER_00: I can't wait to see you both this week.
[1:02:03] SPEAKER_00: And Vicky, I hope you enjoy your stupid family home.
[1:02:06] SPEAKER_01: I enjoy Malai, Vicki.
[1:02:07] SPEAKER_01: Beautiful island.
