[0:57] Speaker 1: should be wearing to all the brands you need to
[0:59] Speaker 1: be looking out for this summer. It was a really
[1:01] Speaker 1: fun episode. We talked about all things from footwear to
[1:05] Speaker 1: hats to boob sweat. It was a lot of fun.
[1:07] Speaker 1: We got a lot of styling tips, so let's get
[1:09] Speaker 1: into it. Jessica, Welcome, to the Nothing to Wear Pod.
[1:13] Speaker 2: Hello, We're very.
[1:15] Speaker 1: Excited to have you here today. But before we jump
[1:17] Speaker 1: into the topic we're here to talk about. There's two
[1:20] Speaker 1: questions that I love to ask all new guests to
[1:22] Speaker 1: the pod. The first one is can you describe your
[1:26] Speaker 1: style in three words?
[1:27] Speaker 4: It's a hard ask, but I'm actually so excited for
[1:30] Speaker 4: this question, and I like, I had to really think
[1:32] Speaker 4: about it because it's very interesting. So I thought about it,
[1:36] Speaker 4: sat with it, and I would describe my style as fluid, elevated,
[1:42] Speaker 4: and evolving.
[1:43] Speaker 3: I love that evolving is such a good word.
[1:46] Speaker 4: Yeah, I feel evolving because I'm always, like I feel,
[1:49] Speaker 4: I'm very classic.
[1:50] Speaker 2: I like to dress very classic, but I'd like to.
[1:52] Speaker 4: Dip my toes in trends as well, so and I think, like,
[1:55] Speaker 4: especially being plus sized, I like to experiment as well
[1:59] Speaker 4: in those sort of trends, and I feel like that's
[2:01] Speaker 4: why it's always evolving as well evolving.
[2:04] Speaker 1: I love that what items make up ten percent of
[2:06] Speaker 1: your wardrobe that you wear ninety percent of the time.
[2:11] Speaker 4: I think for me it is a basic cotton tea
[2:15] Speaker 4: like me too.
[2:16] Speaker 2: I'm really wearing one today.
[2:18] Speaker 4: I think for me, I like to sort of style
[2:20] Speaker 4: them back with like the more elevated pieces that I
[2:23] Speaker 4: have in my wardrobe. So like, you know, I could
[2:25] Speaker 4: wear some sort of like suited pants or like today,
[2:28] Speaker 4: like I'm wearing like a satin bias cut skirt, and
[2:31] Speaker 4: I think it's really fun to sort of layer those
[2:33] Speaker 4: pieces with those items just to sort of elevate them
[2:36] Speaker 4: abe more. But it's like comfy because I always wear
[2:39] Speaker 4: I wear them to the like cotton shirts, to the
[2:41] Speaker 4: gym everywhere else as well, So it's like a staple
[2:43] Speaker 4: that I wear in so many different ways in my wardrobe.
[2:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, a good quality tea is just one of those
[2:48] Speaker 1: like versatile pieces and you can throw on for really
[2:50] Speaker 1: any occasion. I love the exactly what you were saying,
[2:53] Speaker 1: like dressing down dressier pieces. So I love even like
[2:56] Speaker 1: an embellish skirt, throw on a T shirt and immediately
[2:59] Speaker 1: it's kind.
[2:59] Speaker 3: Of wearable for every day. Love that.
[3:01] Speaker 1: Okay, So before we jump into talking about all things
[3:05] Speaker 1: sort of summer fashion, I wanted to get a little
[3:07] Speaker 1: bit of insight into you and your career. So first
[3:11] Speaker 1: let's get back to the beginning. So you've done a
[3:13] Speaker 1: lot of modeling and content creation. How did this sort
[3:16] Speaker 1: of all start for you.
[3:18] Speaker 2: Well, it kind of like had this like slow evolution
[3:22] Speaker 2: in a way.
[3:22] Speaker 4: So I was working for a fashion retailer in a
[3:27] Speaker 4: retail store for many years, and I always loved fashion
[3:32] Speaker 4: and always had a passion for it. And while working
[3:34] Speaker 4: in that retail store, there was a modeling competition. It
[3:38] Speaker 4: was called the United Curves Model Search, and so I
[3:41] Speaker 4: entered that modeling competition and I got in the top
[3:44] Speaker 4: ten and I.
[3:45] Speaker 2: Just thought that was wild.
[3:45] Speaker 4: So that was Australia wide and I thought, oh, my goodness,
[3:49] Speaker 4: is this happening. And that sort of is what escalated
[3:52] Speaker 4: my career into modeling. I then started creating content on
[3:56] Speaker 4: social media, sharing my outfits. It became a bit of
[3:59] Speaker 4: a passion of mine because it was a bit of
[4:01] Speaker 4: a pain point as well, Like I was like, yeah,
[4:03] Speaker 4: I want to wear cool clothes and I want to
[4:05] Speaker 4: see people like me represented in the media things like that.
[4:08] Speaker 4: So it became a passion of mine to start sharing
[4:12] Speaker 4: my I guess fashion inspiration. So then content creation then
[4:17] Speaker 4: naturally led into me being signed with an agency. So
[4:20] Speaker 4: then I started modeling more professionally and that sort of
[4:23] Speaker 4: escalated there and then naturally, just being in that space
[4:28] Speaker 4: I had gained like a lot of connections. I was
[4:31] Speaker 4: a part of a Facebook group called the Founding fifty,
[4:35] Speaker 4: which is now the career path I've gone for. I'm
[4:38] Speaker 4: now working for a clothing label called de Gale and
[4:42] Speaker 4: so their size is fourteen to twenty four and so
[4:45] Speaker 4: now I work for a clothing brand, running their social media,
[4:48] Speaker 4: doing their content creation and influencer partnership. So it's a
[4:52] Speaker 4: really exciting space to be in. So it kind of
[4:55] Speaker 4: like marries up with everything I do in I guess
[4:58] Speaker 4: the modeling and fashion.
[4:59] Speaker 3: World as yeah, I love that.
[5:01] Speaker 1: And when it comes to fashion, obviously you're in the
[5:03] Speaker 1: fashion industry, you'll work in fashion, You're always kind of
[5:06] Speaker 1: around it. What is it in particular that inspires you.
[5:10] Speaker 4: I just think I want to break the ceiling. I
[5:12] Speaker 4: just want to keep breaking that ceiling that I feel
[5:15] Speaker 4: like for so many years, there's like this misconception that
[5:19] Speaker 4: people who are above a size fourteen don't want to
[5:22] Speaker 4: participate in trends or don't want, you know, to wear
[5:25] Speaker 4: what everybody else is wearing. So I think that's where
[5:28] Speaker 4: my main drive is is like no, I just really
[5:31] Speaker 4: want to sort of keep challenging that barrier.
[5:33] Speaker 1: Yeah, and you talked a little bit about there being
[5:36] Speaker 1: gaps in terms of your experience of fashion prior to
[5:39] Speaker 1: kind of entering the industry.
[5:41] Speaker 3: What have sort of been.
[5:42] Speaker 1: The highs and the lows of being in the Australian
[5:46] Speaker 1: fashion industry from your experience, I think.
[5:48] Speaker 4: The highs have definitely been that there has been such
[5:52] Speaker 4: a huge progress, Like there has been massive progress in
[5:56] Speaker 4: the space, and you do see a lot of brands
[5:58] Speaker 4: extending their sizes, which is really exciting to see. But
[6:03] Speaker 4: in that same breath, when those brands do extend their sizes,
[6:07] Speaker 4: they get backlash like it's not like it's not good enough.
[6:09] Speaker 4: But I think we should keep celebrating the progress. And
[6:13] Speaker 4: I think that's like where that high and low comes in,
[6:15] Speaker 4: as you can see that progress happening. Yeah, like is
[6:18] Speaker 4: it happening fast enough? Like maybe not, but I think
[6:21] Speaker 4: we should like reflect and say it is happening. There
[6:24] Speaker 4: are people responding, there are brands that are trying to
[6:29] Speaker 4: do better. But I think as well, there's also the
[6:32] Speaker 4: lows is when when there is a plus sized brand
[6:35] Speaker 4: that sort of brings out I guess clothing that is,
[6:39] Speaker 4: I guess what women have been asking for. But then
[6:42] Speaker 4: there's that backlash like oh, the price points too high,
[6:45] Speaker 4: or there's always that sort of like you know, that
[6:48] Speaker 4: hard sort of ground where it's like, well, this is
[6:50] Speaker 4: what we were asking for. We've made a products like
[6:53] Speaker 4: you know, for me, I love brands like Dish, but
[6:55] Speaker 4: they they they do stop a size sixteen. So you know,
[6:59] Speaker 4: when a brand like like de Gale does release I
[7:02] Speaker 4: guess trends that are similar in line, there is that
[7:05] Speaker 4: sort of like that that would be something that would
[7:07] Speaker 4: be hard if there's that sort of backlash saying that
[7:09] Speaker 4: the price points unattainable or things like that. So I
[7:12] Speaker 4: think there's like so many highs like their progress, but
[7:14] Speaker 4: I guess that is that bit of the low sort
[7:16] Speaker 4: of trying to navigate that.
[7:18] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[7:18] Speaker 1: Well, I love that idea of like as you've put it,
[7:21] Speaker 1: sort of celebrating progress and not necessarily perfection and really
[7:25] Speaker 1: encouraging brands to continue to become more diverse.
[7:29] Speaker 3: And yeah, I love that idea. Today you're going to.
[7:31] Speaker 1: Be talking about we really want all your fashion tips
[7:33] Speaker 1: and all of your insights. We're going to be talking
[7:35] Speaker 1: about all things summer. It's February, it's very hot, and
[7:41] Speaker 1: I think it is a struggle to one stay on
[7:44] Speaker 1: top of what the summer trends are, but also dress
[7:48] Speaker 1: for hot weather. That is a challenge for a lot
[7:50] Speaker 1: of people. So we're going to be talking about all
[7:52] Speaker 1: things like picking the right fabrics, footwear, different silhouettes. So
[7:56] Speaker 1: first up, let's start with fabrics. Yeah, we're always told
[8:00] Speaker 1: to wear natural fibers like cotton and linen and things,
[8:03] Speaker 1: but sometimes I do feel like fabrics like cotton do
[8:07] Speaker 1: kind of hold on to sweat and cling a little bit.
[8:09] Speaker 1: I'm curious for you, what are your personal go to
[8:13] Speaker 1: fabrics for the summertime.
[8:15] Speaker 4: I think for me, linen and cotton divas, like that's
[8:19] Speaker 4: where I tend to sort of always gravitate towards. But
[8:23] Speaker 4: I think there's also you know, if you do want
[8:26] Speaker 4: to sort of wear fabrics that aren't as breathable, I
[8:29] Speaker 4: think that's that's what it ties back to, Mike. I
[8:31] Speaker 4: love to wear like a cotton tea, Like, if my
[8:34] Speaker 4: bottoms aren't necessarily a more breathable fabric, I sort of
[8:38] Speaker 4: like to sort of layer or pair it with an
[8:41] Speaker 4: item that might help have that sort of air flow
[8:43] Speaker 4: and breatheability. So I think I do sort of always
[8:47] Speaker 4: gravitate more towards the linens and cottons, and I think
[8:50] Speaker 4: like the weave and everything makes a huge difference to
[8:54] Speaker 4: in terms of like the airflow. So it just really
[8:57] Speaker 4: depends on how tight or how thick the fabric is too.
[8:59] Speaker 4: But I do feel cotton and linen are definitely your
[9:03] Speaker 4: go to for summer.
[9:04] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for sure to stay cool.
[9:07] Speaker 1: I would agree linen for me is like top choice
[9:09] Speaker 1: for summer. A random one for me also is like
[9:12] Speaker 1: this sounds crazy, but marino wool. I know that's usually
[9:15] Speaker 1: associated with winter time, but like a very thin sort
[9:19] Speaker 1: of marino wool, Well.
[9:21] Speaker 2: It's the same as like the wool blankets. They keep
[9:24] Speaker 2: you cool.
[9:24] Speaker 4: And yes, like I think there is definitely a space
[9:29] Speaker 4: for like knits and wool in summer.
[9:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, sort of worn correctly agreed.
[9:33] Speaker 1: I think it's one hundred cent of what you were saying.
[9:34] Speaker 1: It's to do with the thickness how it's woven. And
[9:37] Speaker 1: like reno wol's a great one because it, like thermoregulates,
[9:39] Speaker 1: so it keeps you cooler in the summer.
[9:41] Speaker 3: I think that's like something that sounds.
[9:42] Speaker 1: Ridiculousleft on, yeah, yeah, one hundred percent is left on. Yeah, Okay,
[9:47] Speaker 1: So we talked about fabrics. What about the cut of
[9:51] Speaker 1: an item when it comes to summer, we want airflow.
[9:54] Speaker 1: What are the specific silhouettes that you sort of gravitate towards.
[9:58] Speaker 4: What I'm seeing a lot lately is they're like the
[10:02] Speaker 4: long tunics yep, And they're not a lot of them
[10:04] Speaker 4: aren't necessarily cotton or linen. They are they might be
[10:08] Speaker 4: like a viscos or a polyesa, just say, but because
[10:12] Speaker 4: they have like a side split or they have something
[10:15] Speaker 4: in there that's going to sort of promote that airflow.
[10:17] Speaker 4: So I think when you're looking at certain cuts, you know,
[10:20] Speaker 4: if you have a T shirt that has the little
[10:21] Speaker 4: side splits, or you have sort of like a boat
[10:24] Speaker 4: neck tee that sort of shows a bit of shoulder,
[10:26] Speaker 4: like you know, heat rises. So I think like if
[10:28] Speaker 4: we're being mindful of how sort of like the air
[10:31] Speaker 4: is going to escape and like when it's sort of
[10:34] Speaker 4: coming out of our bodies, so to speak, I think
[10:36] Speaker 4: that's really important in terms of cuts of like different items.
[10:39] Speaker 4: So I think that's like where it ties back, Like
[10:42] Speaker 4: if I am going to wear a top like that
[10:43] Speaker 4: that is a bit longer, I do look for those
[10:46] Speaker 4: little splits and those little things that are going to
[10:48] Speaker 4: create a bit of movement, airflow, not too tight.
[10:52] Speaker 2: Things like that.
[10:53] Speaker 3: It's a great tip as all.
[10:54] Speaker 1: I think it doesn't have to be like obviously we
[10:55] Speaker 1: talk about fabric, we talk about cut. It could be
[10:58] Speaker 1: either all like you could have you know, if the
[11:00] Speaker 1: material is not necessarily one that's super breathable, the cut
[11:03] Speaker 1: and you're saying things like a slit or the way
[11:05] Speaker 1: that the material is cut make it huge difference in
[11:07] Speaker 1: terms of whether it's going to make you really hot
[11:09] Speaker 1: during the day.
[11:10] Speaker 4: Yeah, and like a line flowy dresses things like that. Yeah,
[11:13] Speaker 4: definitely things that I look out for.
[11:14] Speaker 2: Love that.
[11:15] Speaker 1: And are there any particular Aussie brands that you feel
[11:18] Speaker 1: like are really nailing the breathable, lightweight sort of styles
[11:21] Speaker 1: that we should be wearing during summer.
[11:22] Speaker 4: Oh my gosh, there's a couple I think like for
[11:26] Speaker 4: me personally at the moment, I love I love brands
[11:29] Speaker 4: like Vagary the label. They do beautiful, flowy dresses, gorgeous
[11:33] Speaker 4: for summer. I do find that, Like I've got pieces
[11:35] Speaker 4: from them that just repeat every summer because they're.
[11:37] Speaker 2: Just a perfect throum on. Yeah.
[11:40] Speaker 4: Commonry also do a lot of like beautiful sort of
[11:44] Speaker 4: linens and stuff and cottons as well, like your poplin
[11:47] Speaker 4: sort of cotton teas, things like that. Other brands that
[11:50] Speaker 4: I don't necessarily shop at but I think are doing
[11:53] Speaker 4: really well are brands like Sneaky Link Verge Girl, seeing
[11:58] Speaker 4: them pop up everywhere and sort of seeing those sort
[12:00] Speaker 4: of like you know, cotton shirt trends over like you know,
[12:03] Speaker 4: a sequince skirt for exams ample, and I think, like
[12:08] Speaker 4: that's a really cool way to sort of play with fashion.
[12:10] Speaker 4: But I think you could still be quite cool in
[12:13] Speaker 4: a skirt like that, So I think they're doing it
[12:16] Speaker 4: really well at the moment.
[12:17] Speaker 1: What are some really simple styling tips that you feel
[12:21] Speaker 1: like can really elevate an outfit during summer?
[12:24] Speaker 4: Honestly, I think it's cliche, but accessories. I think accessories like,
[12:29] Speaker 4: for example, I have this really plain linen dress. It's
[12:34] Speaker 4: just sort of like MAXI sort of dress, and it
[12:37] Speaker 4: does It's just plain white linen, and so to really
[12:40] Speaker 4: elevate it, like I'm loving the scarf trend, like rapping
[12:43] Speaker 4: a staff around the waist, or you know, the bangles,
[12:47] Speaker 4: big chunky bangles at the moment, chunky necklaces. I think
[12:51] Speaker 4: you know, your beaded necklaces. If you have these like
[12:53] Speaker 4: really interesting sort of elements to your outfit, I think,
[12:57] Speaker 4: you know, if you have a really plain outfit, that's
[12:59] Speaker 4: the way you can sort of really elevate a look.
[13:02] Speaker 1: I was going to say, the necklace you're wearing today,
[13:04] Speaker 1: it's like kind of two layers.
[13:06] Speaker 3: It's a statement necklace. I love it.
[13:08] Speaker 2: Pick this one up from Tacuba.
[13:10] Speaker 4: Actually, yeah, I was very nice. Just caught my eye
[13:13] Speaker 4: and I was like, yeah, you're coming home with me.
[13:14] Speaker 1: I love it. I love it so much so and
[13:17] Speaker 1: I agree. I think when it is summer and it's hot,
[13:21] Speaker 1: fuss free dressing is often the way that I personally go,
[13:24] Speaker 1: and so dressing in a way that's lightweight, but then
[13:27] Speaker 1: throwing on accessories is like the best way to still
[13:30] Speaker 1: feel like you're put together and still a fashion girl.
[13:32] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, same.
[13:33] Speaker 1: There's obviously trends that come and go. What is the
[13:36] Speaker 1: fashion trend this season that you're like most excited about
[13:39] Speaker 1: that gets you really excited that you're excited to be
[13:42] Speaker 1: a part of.
[13:43] Speaker 4: I'm actually obsessed with the sequence, like, which is a
[13:49] Speaker 4: little bit crazy for me because I am a little
[13:51] Speaker 4: bit more of your sort of classic minimalists at times.
[13:55] Speaker 4: But I'm seeing that, I'm like, that's something I can
[13:57] Speaker 4: sort of dip my toes in again. Like I think
[14:00] Speaker 4: that goes back to like my evolving fashion style where
[14:03] Speaker 4: I see that and because like today I'm wearing a
[14:05] Speaker 4: satin by Cuts with a tea. I see myself wearing
[14:09] Speaker 4: something like that because it's something that I'm already loving,
[14:11] Speaker 4: and I think sequence always come back, They're always having
[14:14] Speaker 4: a moment. So I'm very conscious of like not sort
[14:17] Speaker 4: of like jumping on a trend like just because and
[14:20] Speaker 4: so I really need to sit and think about how
[14:22] Speaker 4: I'm going to incorporate it into.
[14:23] Speaker 2: My into my wardrobe. Right, it does excite me.
[14:26] Speaker 4: It's something that I feel will sort of you know,
[14:29] Speaker 4: even like if you have it ears down to come
[14:31] Speaker 4: that could be the young people want to go to
[14:33] Speaker 4: a as a mermaid to address up party, something you
[14:35] Speaker 4: can rewear exactly. I think it's just one of those
[14:38] Speaker 4: items that I think are fun.
[14:39] Speaker 1: Is that your usual approach to sort of trends? Like
[14:41] Speaker 1: there are so many trends, micro trends that come up
[14:43] Speaker 1: every single year. Obviously we both work in fashion. What
[14:46] Speaker 1: is your sort of approach to like seeing a trend,
[14:48] Speaker 1: whether you invest in it, and are you someone who
[14:50] Speaker 1: generally buys into trends?
[14:51] Speaker 4: Yeah, I dip in and out. Like I think, there's
[14:54] Speaker 4: been times where I can't participate in a trend, which
[14:57] Speaker 4: is interesting because it's not I guess in my size
[15:00] Speaker 4: or like things like that, which is For example, the
[15:03] Speaker 4: scarf trend was one that I really wanted to be
[15:06] Speaker 4: a part of Restore. I went into I put a
[15:08] Speaker 4: scarf around my waist and it wasn't big enough. And
[15:11] Speaker 4: so I was actually sitting in the office a couple
[15:13] Speaker 4: of months ago and I turned to Jamie, our designer,
[15:16] Speaker 4: I went, Jamie, I need a scarf.
[15:18] Speaker 2: I need a scarf. I just want.
[15:20] Speaker 4: I really loved the sort of silhouette that it gave
[15:23] Speaker 4: and I really wanted to participate in that trend. And
[15:25] Speaker 4: in my head, a scarf is something that has multi
[15:28] Speaker 4: uses and it's something that I really wanted to incorporate
[15:31] Speaker 4: in my wardrobe.
[15:32] Speaker 2: So I turned to her.
[15:33] Speaker 4: And I said, please, can you please design a scarf
[15:35] Speaker 4: for us plus sized divas?
[15:37] Speaker 2: I think I need one?
[15:38] Speaker 4: And she did it, and so I'm so excited for that,
[15:41] Speaker 4: and I think it's a type of garment that anyone
[15:44] Speaker 4: could actually buy, because you know, I have a friend
[15:46] Speaker 4: that isn't plus size that she tried on it.
[15:48] Speaker 2: It looked beautiful as a little tie dress on her,
[15:50] Speaker 2: and I'm like, oh my goodness.
[16:01] Speaker 1: So when it comes to summer, we all know the
[16:04] Speaker 1: dreaded boob sweat.
[16:06] Speaker 3: It's an ever happens to us all.
[16:09] Speaker 1: Is there a specific bra or bra lette that is
[16:12] Speaker 1: breathable but supportive that you like?
[16:15] Speaker 4: Yeah, I really love Nala, So I know that they
[16:20] Speaker 4: use sort of like a like a bamboo type fabric,
[16:24] Speaker 4: and so do booty. Booty and Nala are problem I
[16:27] Speaker 4: go to for like breatheability, comfort, everything, So whether you prefer,
[16:33] Speaker 4: I guess, an underwire or not, they have like both
[16:37] Speaker 4: those options at Nila, which I love, but I feel
[16:39] Speaker 4: like it's very moisture wicking, those sorts of materials similar
[16:42] Speaker 4: to sort of active wear and things like that. So
[16:45] Speaker 4: they're definitely my go tos for for undergarments in summer,
[16:49] Speaker 4: just for that breatheability. I don't tend to really go
[16:51] Speaker 4: for any of like the lazy ones. I like to
[16:54] Speaker 4: go for comfort.
[16:55] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I'm the same. Comfort is like number one,
[16:57] Speaker 1: especially during summer. Yes, the bandu tops and things I
[17:01] Speaker 1: love too. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean comfort. Yeah you're
[17:04] Speaker 1: saying it's very important to me too when it comes
[17:07] Speaker 1: to dressing in any sort of way. But even like footwear,
[17:10] Speaker 1: very very important to have a comfortable shoe. I feel
[17:14] Speaker 1: like in summer sometimes I love a sneak. I'm a
[17:16] Speaker 1: sneaker girl like through and through, but I find during
[17:18] Speaker 1: summer it can be a little warm and not necessarily
[17:21] Speaker 1: like my number one.
[17:22] Speaker 3: Shoe of choice.
[17:23] Speaker 1: What about for you, like, what are you loving this
[17:25] Speaker 1: time of year on your feet?
[17:27] Speaker 2: Can I just say I am so happy that thongs
[17:29] Speaker 2: are back?
[17:31] Speaker 1: Me too, Let's say it again, thongs.
[17:33] Speaker 4: Are back, songs are back, like, I'm into it, and
[17:37] Speaker 4: even the little kitten heels.
[17:38] Speaker 1: We're both wearing a pair of little kitten hill shades.
[17:43] Speaker 2: Obsessed.
[17:45] Speaker 4: I am not one to sort of like care that
[17:47] Speaker 4: my dogs are out in the office. Same I could
[17:50] Speaker 4: tell us I'm glad that I work in an office
[17:52] Speaker 4: space that isn't as corporate we can sort of have
[17:56] Speaker 4: fun with fashion.
[17:56] Speaker 2: But as soon as I saw like thong was coming.
[17:59] Speaker 4: Back, like your archies and all those really cool fun colors,
[18:02] Speaker 4: I was like, yeah, that's my that's my jam. But
[18:05] Speaker 4: I think my old turn and it would probably I've
[18:08] Speaker 4: been loving like the mesh ballet flats as well, and
[18:11] Speaker 4: sort of like any of like those fishnets sort of
[18:13] Speaker 4: mules and things like that. Love so I think they're
[18:15] Speaker 4: really cool alternatives. But I think as well, like, yeah,
[18:19] Speaker 4: sort of soft leather slides, like if you're looking for
[18:21] Speaker 4: something more like for an all day where comfortable, like
[18:25] Speaker 4: I think like looking at like sort of like your
[18:26] Speaker 4: Birkenstocks and things like that, your Fishermen sandals that have
[18:29] Speaker 4: a bit more of that support. Yeah, Franky four a
[18:34] Speaker 4: really great brand call sort of comfortability in terms of
[18:37] Speaker 4: like sandals that look really elevated, So definitely might go
[18:41] Speaker 4: to there.
[18:41] Speaker 1: Yeah, there's so many good options that I love that,
[18:43] Speaker 1: but I love that we've aligned on.
[18:44] Speaker 3: It like a old sandal.
[18:47] Speaker 1: Love it. And Okay, we've talked about a bunch of things, fabrics, silhouettes, shoes.
[18:54] Speaker 1: When it comes to dresses, obviously a summer sort of staple.
[18:58] Speaker 1: Flowy dresses are really everywhere during the summer. What are
[19:01] Speaker 1: some of the brands that you're personally loving right now
[19:03] Speaker 1: that do like the flowy airy dress really well.
[19:07] Speaker 4: I have a dress from Fate the label that it's
[19:11] Speaker 4: a cotton rib at the top and it has like
[19:13] Speaker 4: that little V V line and then that real a
[19:16] Speaker 4: line skirt.
[19:17] Speaker 1: I love that.
[19:18] Speaker 4: That is probably one of my favorite dresses that I
[19:20] Speaker 4: have in my wardrobe because its same again, like can
[19:23] Speaker 4: pop it on. It's just effortless, and I think that's
[19:26] Speaker 4: probably like my if I could say, my number one
[19:29] Speaker 4: dress that I have on rotation all the time is
[19:32] Speaker 4: that one, because yeah, what.
[19:33] Speaker 3: Color did you say it was?
[19:34] Speaker 2: It? It's white. It's just plain white.
[19:36] Speaker 4: I'm not a big print girl, like I do have
[19:38] Speaker 4: a few different prints, but I'm very particular on my prints.
[19:41] Speaker 4: But you will see me wearing a lot of sort
[19:43] Speaker 4: of neutral colors. I'm not very neutral girly.
[19:46] Speaker 2: And then I find that I accessorize with my colors
[19:49] Speaker 2: and makes it like my bag and things like that.
[19:52] Speaker 2: I tend to be more printed or again like a
[19:54] Speaker 2: printed scarf for.
[19:55] Speaker 3: A little accent.
[19:57] Speaker 1: I love that. I mean I'm a neutral girlie as well.
[20:00] Speaker 1: And summer's usually a time that's often associated with like
[20:03] Speaker 1: right pops of color. Oh you can have a little
[20:05] Speaker 1: bit more fun. So like for the neutral girl us
[20:07] Speaker 1: out there, what is a way that you can kind
[20:10] Speaker 1: of incorporate And you talked a little about accessories. Yeah,
[20:12] Speaker 1: the best way to incorporate pops of color if that's
[20:15] Speaker 1: not usually sort of the palette that you go for.
[20:18] Speaker 4: I think definitely like keep in mind, like I think
[20:20] Speaker 4: keeping in mind sort of what your sort of favorite
[20:24] Speaker 4: color is in terms of like your tone, like what
[20:26] Speaker 4: you want to.
[20:26] Speaker 2: Wear, if you sort of like buy accessories in that color.
[20:29] Speaker 4: Like if I know at home, I have a lot
[20:31] Speaker 4: of I have some like yellow shoes for example. Like
[20:34] Speaker 4: if I see like a shirt that has like yellow
[20:36] Speaker 4: elements in it, I'll be like, Okay, that's going to
[20:38] Speaker 4: fit back with my white skirt or you know, I
[20:42] Speaker 4: like to sort of think about what I've already got
[20:45] Speaker 4: at home that has color in it, and if I
[20:46] Speaker 4: see something in that color, I'm like, that's going to
[20:48] Speaker 4: mix a match perfectly. Or colors that go together, like
[20:51] Speaker 4: I love pink and red together things like that. Yeah,
[20:54] Speaker 4: So I think just I'm not afraid, like if you're
[20:58] Speaker 4: a mutuale dresser, like having that little bit of dopamine
[21:01] Speaker 4: in your accessories and in those little elements. So if
[21:04] Speaker 4: you see like a pair of sunglasses that have like
[21:07] Speaker 4: red rim and things like that. I think that's how
[21:09] Speaker 4: you can sort of add in those sort of pops
[21:11] Speaker 4: of color and detail through like fun accessories.
[21:14] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[21:15] Speaker 1: I also love that tip, the idea of shopping colors
[21:17] Speaker 1: that you already like, because then I think oftentimes you
[21:21] Speaker 1: are if you are sort of chasing whatever color might
[21:23] Speaker 1: be in season right now or everyone else is wearing
[21:26] Speaker 1: the seasons do cycle through, And I think a really
[21:28] Speaker 1: great way to do it is buy colors that spark
[21:31] Speaker 1: joy for you personally, and that's something that you can
[21:33] Speaker 1: rewear for seasons to come.
[21:34] Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree love that.
[21:36] Speaker 1: I mean talking of the color of the year or
[21:38] Speaker 1: color of the seasons, there's obviously a lot of talk
[21:41] Speaker 1: about what that is for summer in your opinion, like
[21:44] Speaker 1: what's the color of this summer or the color that
[21:46] Speaker 1: we're going to be seeing everywhere on everyone.
[21:48] Speaker 4: I think like your buttery yellow and your soft blue. Yes,
[21:53] Speaker 4: I think are going to be those colors, which excites
[21:56] Speaker 4: me as a neutral girl because I think they pair
[21:58] Speaker 4: so well with neutral colors. So even like you're soft
[22:02] Speaker 4: blue with brown, like for your choky you know your
[22:05] Speaker 4: girls who love that chocky brown color, I think blue
[22:08] Speaker 4: looks beautiful both yellow and brown, to be honest. So
[22:11] Speaker 4: I think that's definitely the color of the summer, and
[22:13] Speaker 4: I'm seeing that color sort of coming in everywhere at
[22:17] Speaker 4: the moment.
[22:17] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean blue.
[22:19] Speaker 1: I remember like spring summer twenty six, like all across
[22:22] Speaker 1: the runways there were so many blue accents and things
[22:25] Speaker 1: and the pairing of like brown and blue.
[22:27] Speaker 3: So I agree with you on that. I think that
[22:28] Speaker 3: color is going to be everywhere this summer.
[22:30] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[22:30] Speaker 1: And also like, yeah, yellow and like a buddy yellow
[22:32] Speaker 1: and a light blue kind of feel neutral adjacent what
[22:36] Speaker 1: you were saying.
[22:37] Speaker 2: Yes, one hundred percent.
[22:38] Speaker 1: They don't really feel like bright pops of colors to me,
[22:40] Speaker 1: and something that feel like really easily integratable into any
[22:44] Speaker 1: sort of wardrobe.
[22:45] Speaker 4: Yeah, especially if you have like a chocolate brown bag
[22:47] Speaker 4: for example. I feel that's like another dark element to
[22:50] Speaker 4: add to sort of like the light that you're playing with.
[22:52] Speaker 4: I think, you know, sometimes black can be really harsh,
[22:55] Speaker 4: and so I think like those browns, browns still having
[22:59] Speaker 4: a moment as well this summer.
[23:00] Speaker 2: Yeah, I can, I can notice.
[23:01] Speaker 4: So I love that brown still incorporates and goes with
[23:04] Speaker 4: those colors.
[23:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love that.
[23:07] Speaker 1: Okay, So I want to talk a little bit about
[23:09] Speaker 1: your work at DeGale. We spoke about it a little
[23:12] Speaker 1: bit today, but obviously doing content and community management.
[23:16] Speaker 3: Talk to me a.
[23:16] Speaker 1: Little bit about the work that you do there and
[23:19] Speaker 1: also why it's so important to you.
[23:21] Speaker 4: Yeah, so that goes back to the founding fifty. I
[23:24] Speaker 4: was a part of that Facebook group and so a
[23:26] Speaker 4: little bit more about that is they got a bunch
[23:28] Speaker 4: of women together in this Facebook group before they even
[23:31] Speaker 4: launched the brand, and I was actually a part of
[23:33] Speaker 4: that group. They did like teams meetings where everyone gave feedback,
[23:37] Speaker 4: like so it was women who were above a size
[23:39] Speaker 4: fourteen sort of just giving feedback about what we want,
[23:42] Speaker 4: what we want to see in fashion and what I
[23:47] Speaker 4: guess what needs to sort of change in the space.
[23:50] Speaker 4: And so that really excited me being a part of
[23:52] Speaker 4: that group and being a part.
[23:53] Speaker 2: Of that process.
[23:55] Speaker 4: And you know, I didn't think that I like didn't
[23:58] Speaker 4: think that it was going to go anywhere from there.
[24:01] Speaker 4: But one day DeGale slid into my DMS and was like, Hey,
[24:06] Speaker 4: we'd love to chat to you further. So I sort
[24:09] Speaker 4: of met with them and they're saying, look, we're looking
[24:11] Speaker 4: for someone to sort of champion our brand and be
[24:14] Speaker 4: that face of the community, because I do like we
[24:17] Speaker 4: do have a bit of a community online in that
[24:19] Speaker 4: sort of curve space, and they just wanted someone to
[24:22] Speaker 4: sort of champion that, and so I feel it's almost
[24:26] Speaker 4: like sort of like an ambassador for the brand as well,
[24:29] Speaker 4: Like when I come online, like people sort of relate
[24:32] Speaker 4: to that, So it's sort of like that community. That's
[24:34] Speaker 4: where that sense of community comes from. So when I
[24:37] Speaker 4: joined the team, they were looking for someone to sort
[24:39] Speaker 4: of manage the socials, and obviously, with my content creator
[24:43] Speaker 4: background as well, I sort of brought that to the table.
[24:46] Speaker 4: So I get to have a lot of fun in
[24:48] Speaker 4: that space. So obviously there's all the admin work, all
[24:51] Speaker 4: that sort of stuff, but I think my main role
[24:53] Speaker 4: there is like that community engagement and also that content
[24:58] Speaker 4: creation piece, So I love We just recently did the
[25:01] Speaker 4: holiday hotline and we got like this old.
[25:03] Speaker 2: Vintage phone and everything, so I get to.
[25:05] Speaker 4: Be really creative with that and I just absolutely love
[25:08] Speaker 4: that element of it because I am a very creative
[25:11] Speaker 4: person at Hearts, So that's like my main role there
[25:15] Speaker 4: is creating content creating like maybe like strategies as well.
[25:19] Speaker 4: So like marketing strategies or I also like I think
[25:22] Speaker 4: I like to like really I wear many hats, yep,
[25:25] Speaker 4: I wear many hats because I even help like with
[25:28] Speaker 4: design feedback, and I love that too, So I'm very
[25:31] Speaker 4: much involved.
[25:31] Speaker 2: It's a very like tight knit team.
[25:33] Speaker 1: And I guess you talked about you come from a
[25:35] Speaker 1: content creation background, being in that sort of industry yourself
[25:39] Speaker 1: and doing that for your own personal brand. How does
[25:41] Speaker 1: that sort of affect how you create content for a
[25:44] Speaker 1: brand like Degel, for example.
[25:47] Speaker 4: I think what I love is I don't feel like
[25:50] Speaker 4: they let me just be myself as well, and so
[25:52] Speaker 4: we're like we've created a few funny tiktoks, and I
[25:55] Speaker 4: think it's really like, I think it's fun that they
[25:57] Speaker 4: let me just be my own personality in that space
[26:00] Speaker 4: as well. And a lot of my content is very similar,
[26:03] Speaker 4: like in terms of like how I create content is
[26:06] Speaker 4: very similar for the brand and for my own personal
[26:08] Speaker 4: brand too in terms of like, you know, how we
[26:11] Speaker 4: do like the close up shots and all these like
[26:13] Speaker 4: beautiful like visuals in sort of the videos and things.
[26:17] Speaker 4: So I think it's very like, very much similar.
[26:21] Speaker 1: Being someone who works in content creation and fashion, you're
[26:24] Speaker 1: sort of in the space where you're always seeing kind
[26:26] Speaker 1: of what brands are doing. What are the brands that
[26:29] Speaker 1: you think are doing really well when it comes to
[26:32] Speaker 1: size inclusivity, whether that's to do with represent representation and
[26:35] Speaker 1: campaigns or talking about stocking white range of sizes. What
[26:39] Speaker 1: are the brands that you think are like really at
[26:41] Speaker 1: the forefront and doing it well.
[26:42] Speaker 2: I think at the moment, I see a lot the
[26:45] Speaker 2: Lalla Bi Club.
[26:46] Speaker 3: I love the very Yeah.
[26:48] Speaker 4: I think they always sort of using diverse models. I
[26:51] Speaker 4: see that Fate the label as well. I think you
[26:54] Speaker 4: always see sort of that diversity in their in their
[26:57] Speaker 4: campaigns or in their modeling too. And I just recently
[27:00] Speaker 4: saw Booty do a big campaign and I thought it
[27:03] Speaker 4: was beautiful and I love the diversity there as well.
[27:06] Speaker 4: So that's like from brands that I sort of had
[27:08] Speaker 4: my eyes on because you know, I follow them because
[27:11] Speaker 4: they stock my size. But that's something that's always coming
[27:14] Speaker 4: up on my feet and it brings me a lot
[27:16] Speaker 4: of joy when I see that.
[27:17] Speaker 1: Yeah, And obviously there's been a lot of change in
[27:20] Speaker 1: the industry over the years, whether that be fast enough
[27:23] Speaker 1: or not, there's been progress, at least over the last
[27:26] Speaker 1: several years. What do you think, though, is the biggest
[27:29] Speaker 1: misconception when it comes to fashion currently.
[27:33] Speaker 4: There's this misconception that all women don't want to participate
[27:35] Speaker 4: in a trend or don't want to sort of wear
[27:37] Speaker 4: what someone else who you know is a size ten
[27:41] Speaker 4: might be wearing.
[27:41] Speaker 2: Like for me, I'm like, I want a sequence skirt,
[27:44] Speaker 2: Like I don't mind showing a bit of my legs.
[27:46] Speaker 3: Like.
[27:46] Speaker 4: I think that's probably like the biggest misconception, and I
[27:49] Speaker 4: think like that's not only just in the fashion industry.
[27:51] Speaker 4: I think like even individuals have a long way to
[27:54] Speaker 4: go in their own confidence because for so many years
[27:57] Speaker 4: they haven't I guess, had that representation and so they
[28:00] Speaker 4: might be a little bit scared to participate in those
[28:04] Speaker 4: trends or dress a certain way because of maybe how
[28:08] Speaker 4: they think that it's going to be perceived or yeah,
[28:10] Speaker 4: things like that. So I think that's probably like the biggest,
[28:14] Speaker 4: the biggest one.
[28:15] Speaker 2: And I think, yeah, it still has a lot of
[28:17] Speaker 2: There has been a lot of progress, as we said,
[28:19] Speaker 2: but I think they has to do a lot to do. Yeah,
[28:22] Speaker 2: So I.
[28:22] Speaker 4: Think visibility and having more sort of like bodies in
[28:27] Speaker 4: campaigns and things like that is just going to help
[28:29] Speaker 4: people to sort of really own their personal style as
[28:33] Speaker 4: well then feel that they can sort of like not
[28:36] Speaker 4: have to be in one box.
[28:37] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[28:37] Speaker 1: I mean that's the importance of representation is sometimes you
[28:39] Speaker 1: have to see it to know something as possible. Yeah.
[28:41] Speaker 1: I think when you grow up not seeing any representation
[28:44] Speaker 1: with yourself in the media and campaigns and fashion, it's.
[28:47] Speaker 3: Not something you even know you can try, you know. Yeah.
[28:50] Speaker 1: So what are some of the changes that you would
[28:53] Speaker 1: personally like to see moving forward in the fashion industry.
[28:56] Speaker 1: Obviously we've talked about there being progress and that the
[28:58] Speaker 1: fact that there's more to be done. What's one thing
[29:01] Speaker 1: that you just would really like to see change.
[29:03] Speaker 2: I think just general accessibility.
[29:06] Speaker 4: I think you know that there is even the element
[29:08] Speaker 4: of maybe a price point not being accessible. So maybe
[29:12] Speaker 4: there has to be more brands that do sort of
[29:14] Speaker 4: offer I guess an accessible price point, Like I know
[29:18] Speaker 4: you do have your brands like your Target and things
[29:20] Speaker 4: like that, so I think it'd be really important for
[29:23] Speaker 4: those sorts of brands to sort of look into, I guess,
[29:28] Speaker 4: being a little bit more explorative with their styles.
[29:31] Speaker 2: I think Target do it really well.
[29:33] Speaker 4: I think Target's one of my favorite sort of like
[29:35] Speaker 4: more budget brands, but I think there's definitely space to
[29:38] Speaker 4: sort of include be more inclusive, not only in size,
[29:41] Speaker 4: which I know we've talked about a bit, but also
[29:43] Speaker 4: just in sort of accessibility in all aspects, so and
[29:46] Speaker 4: even just mindful in sort of designs as well and
[29:50] Speaker 4: wear ability and things like that. There's a few different
[29:53] Speaker 4: sort of things that I think sort of need that improvement.
[29:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, there as well.
[29:57] Speaker 1: And like being able to access trends at all different
[29:59] Speaker 1: price points. I think that's important for sure. It's very expensive,
[30:15] Speaker 1: how hundred of these twenty five percent before we finish off.
[30:19] Speaker 1: Something we do every time on the Pod is bougie
[30:22] Speaker 1: and budget yep.
[30:23] Speaker 4: I mean, I'm gonna be honest, I'm in my budget era.
[30:27] Speaker 1: Okay, love that for you.
[30:29] Speaker 4: Literally, Like I do have bougie things that are on
[30:32] Speaker 4: like my wish list, but I think there's nothing personally
[30:34] Speaker 4: that I have purchased for myself that is on like
[30:37] Speaker 4: a real bougie price tag. Okay, but if if, if,
[30:40] Speaker 4: if I could and just tomorrow, like no question, yep.
[30:43] Speaker 4: There's this pair of mesh mules from a brand I'm
[30:48] Speaker 4: probably gonna butchers.
[30:50] Speaker 2: A liar yep.
[30:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, yepay them.
[30:53] Speaker 2: Love them.
[30:54] Speaker 4: It's like a choppy burgundy sort of color. Yeah, I
[30:57] Speaker 4: love them and love that. I saw a photo of them.
[30:59] Speaker 4: I have been dreaming of them, so that would probably
[31:01] Speaker 4: be my bougie pick.
[31:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, A liar's got incredible shoes. Yeah, nothing I can afford.
[31:06] Speaker 1: We can dream from a fine.
[31:08] Speaker 4: I'm with you, but I'm like, they're beautiful. But there's
[31:10] Speaker 4: definitely I've seen Jupes. I've seen Jupes like so it's
[31:13] Speaker 4: definitely something that yep is definitely budget friendly if you sort.
[31:17] Speaker 3: Of want to go there, but you can find jubes.
[31:19] Speaker 2: Yeah, love that.
[31:20] Speaker 1: Okay, I'll do my bougie and then we can move
[31:22] Speaker 1: on to budget. So my boujie not actually that bougie,
[31:25] Speaker 1: but Dish has this chocolate silk skirt, so like silk,
[31:30] Speaker 1: I think perfect for summer. We talked about natural fibers
[31:33] Speaker 1: and how breathable they are. This one's around two hundred
[31:35] Speaker 1: and twenty nine dollars, really beautiful, really wearable. I'm a
[31:39] Speaker 1: real chocolate brown kind of girl, and we talked a
[31:41] Speaker 1: little bit about how that's still really trending this summer.
[31:44] Speaker 1: So that's one that I will be buying and adding
[31:46] Speaker 1: to my wardrobe, and a silk skirt is just so versatile,
[31:49] Speaker 1: even not during summer winter, for really any sort of season.
[31:53] Speaker 3: It's something that goes with everything.
[31:54] Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree, Like in come winter, you'll see me
[31:57] Speaker 4: wearing my silk or satin skirts with blazers, yes, yes.
[32:00] Speaker 3: Even jumpers over top.
[32:01] Speaker 2: Yes.
[32:02] Speaker 3: So versatile.
[32:03] Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, do you want to do your budget?
[32:06] Speaker 4: Yeah? My budget at the moment. One of my favorite
[32:11] Speaker 4: shoe brands is Therapy Shoes, So I find that they
[32:15] Speaker 4: sort of dip in those trends. So if you are
[32:17] Speaker 4: liking those sort of kitten heels, bomb sandals, things like that,
[32:20] Speaker 4: they are nailing it with the colors and everything at
[32:22] Speaker 4: the moment. So if you're sort of again looking for
[32:25] Speaker 4: that budget friendly footwear brand, I think Therapy is fantastic.
[32:29] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[32:29] Speaker 1: I love that. Own so many pairs of Therapy shoes,
[32:31] Speaker 1: really affordable and really hold up well. Yes, I've got
[32:33] Speaker 1: pairs that I've had for years.
[32:35] Speaker 3: Yeah, I love that brand.
[32:37] Speaker 1: Okay, my budget we talked about Lalla by Club Mine
[32:40] Speaker 1: is a sun hat forty nine ninety five. It's kind
[32:43] Speaker 1: of a Gingham print hat. It's got these two little
[32:46] Speaker 1: I don't know what you call these ribbons.
[32:48] Speaker 3: On the side.
[32:49] Speaker 1: I think a hat is such a summer staple and
[32:51] Speaker 1: it's so underrated because it's something you need every weekend
[32:54] Speaker 1: you go out pop it on, one for sun protection,
[32:56] Speaker 1: but two just for like fashion. I think it's a
[32:58] Speaker 1: fun way to add a little interest, little pop of color. Yeah,
[33:02] Speaker 1: and it feels like a fashion galie item you can
[33:04] Speaker 1: throw on. So yeah, that's mine. I feel like that's one.
[33:07] Speaker 1: It's not too expensive that you can pick up that.
[33:09] Speaker 3: I feel like you would. Yeah, kind of all through
[33:11] Speaker 3: the summer.
[33:11] Speaker 2: Yeah, gorgeous.
[33:12] Speaker 4: I love that I have a few of those sort
[33:14] Speaker 4: of straw hats things like that, Like I can't go
[33:17] Speaker 4: to the beach without it, Like I do not want
[33:19] Speaker 4: sunburn on my scalp. No, thank you, Yeah, guys, literally, Lily,
[33:23] Speaker 4: And it's hard. Like I know there are SPF brands
[33:26] Speaker 4: out there that you can spray your scalp, but your
[33:28] Speaker 4: hat is your shore way.
[33:29] Speaker 1: Yes, I agree, And I love that, Like larger brim
[33:32] Speaker 1: hats are now really trendy and in again, so.
[33:36] Speaker 2: Oh I love that.
