Ever wondered why a specific shade of blue or a weird shoe suddenly takes over your social feed? Welcome to the ultimate Spring 2026 fashion cheat sheet. [0:08] Speaker 1: You're listening to a MoMA mea podcast. Whoever said orange
[0:16] Speaker 1: is a new pink with seriously.
[0:18] Speaker 2: Disturbed laurels spraying groundbreaking?
[0:21] Speaker 1: Oh my god, you have to do it. You live
[0:23] Speaker 1: for fashion.
[0:26] Speaker 3: Hello, and welcome to Nothing to Wear, the podcast that
[0:29] Speaker 3: solves fashion problems and levels up your wardrobe. I'm Tamara Holland.
[0:33] Speaker 3: I am the fashion editor here at Mama Mia.
[0:35] Speaker 4: And I'm listen to picket, trend forecaster and content creator.
[0:39] Speaker 4: Each week we talk all things fashion, helping you decide
[0:42] Speaker 4: what is and isn't worth investing in.
[0:44] Speaker 2: Hello, my friend Holland missed you. I missed you too.
[0:49] Speaker 2: I was away last week. We had lovely Chelsea feelings
[0:52] Speaker 2: we did.
[0:52] Speaker 3: She's amazing, brought her sparkly energy as always and all
[0:55] Speaker 3: her fashion knowledge and entertainment knowledge, which we need on
[0:58] Speaker 3: this show.
[0:59] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[0:59] Speaker 4: So I did miss talking all things Copenhagen Fashion Week
[1:02] Speaker 4: with you, but I loved listening to you on the phone.
[1:04] Speaker 1: I know, And you know what We're kind of going
[1:05] Speaker 1: to touch on at a little bit.
[1:07] Speaker 3: Going to talk about Copenhagen specifically, but we are going
[1:09] Speaker 3: to get into some trends that we definitely saw at Copenhagen.
[1:13] Speaker 1: That's a lot of the street style girlies.
[1:14] Speaker 3: But before we get into it, a few months ago
[1:18] Speaker 3: on this show, we discussed a very controversial shoe.
[1:21] Speaker 4: Yes we I think Vogue called it the circumcised shoe, the.
[1:26] Speaker 3: Circumcised shoe and had a few names. You called it
[1:28] Speaker 3: a pell cup, hill cup shoe. Okay, So Chanelle at
[1:32] Speaker 3: the Cruise Show debuted this shoe that went immediately viral
[1:37] Speaker 3: and it was essentially like yes, a heel cup and
[1:40] Speaker 3: it was toeless, like basically the toes are out. That's
[1:43] Speaker 3: the whole idea. And we debated, would anyone wear this shoe?
[1:46] Speaker 3: I have some news for you. Somebody has worn.
[1:49] Speaker 2: The shoe, Tell me who and where.
[1:52] Speaker 3: So it was the divine Margaret Quali. So she's in
[1:55] Speaker 3: a movie with jacob Elaordi our Australian prints and at
[1:59] Speaker 3: the Red Carpet in London. So for the premiere of
[2:02] Speaker 3: the movie. She of course is a Shanelle ambassador. So
[2:05] Speaker 3: she was wearing this divine embroidered black Chanel dress and
[2:08] Speaker 3: she had the shoes or the half shoes, and that
[2:12] Speaker 3: went like bananas.
[2:15] Speaker 2: Half that we spoke about.
[2:16] Speaker 4: Okay, who is there actually a consumer for this shoe?
[2:19] Speaker 4: But then if there is, where are they wearing it?
[2:21] Speaker 4: We spoke about potentially Bali or Fiji, but on a
[2:24] Speaker 4: red cart.
[2:24] Speaker 3: I know it's ballsy, isn't it. Everyone was saying the
[2:27] Speaker 3: dogs are out, dogs, get your dogs out.
[2:31] Speaker 1: I just love. Do you know what I love the
[2:32] Speaker 1: most about this?
[2:35] Speaker 3: Margaret Quali is famously going through a divorce with her
[2:39] Speaker 3: soon to be ex husband Jack Antonov, and this is
[2:41] Speaker 3: just the ultimate diversion.
[2:43] Speaker 1: It's a genius level that thought in that theory.
[2:46] Speaker 4: I love.
[2:47] Speaker 1: Don't talk about my divorce, talk about my feet.
[2:49] Speaker 4: Yeah, so that's a trend that Chanel came out with.
[2:51] Speaker 4: We are here to talk about trends today, aren't we?
[2:53] Speaker 4: And it is trends for spring at twenty twenty six.
[2:57] Speaker 4: And also what I guess shoppers are expecting to see
[2:59] Speaker 4: in store because it is spring now exactly.
[3:02] Speaker 3: Yeah, we're in the season. We're ready as shop. Obviously,
[3:05] Speaker 3: we're going to go through a lot of stuff for
[3:07] Speaker 3: this episode. Talk about what's in in terms of silhouette,
[3:10] Speaker 3: in terms of color, shape, what you'll be seeing. Of course,
[3:14] Speaker 3: with the cost of living crisis, we know you're not
[3:16] Speaker 3: going to buy everything. This is just kind of a
[3:18] Speaker 3: taster the things that you might want to yet that's
[3:20] Speaker 3: for me, yep, I'm going to invest in that. No,
[3:23] Speaker 3: not for me so much. And I think we're even
[3:24] Speaker 3: going to weigh in on the things that we actually
[3:27] Speaker 3: ourselves are going to add to our.
[3:28] Speaker 1: Wardrobe or may have already, so things we're going to
[3:30] Speaker 1: pass on.
[3:31] Speaker 4: And the funny thing with trends, everything feels like it's
[3:33] Speaker 4: trending at once, right with TikTok and social media, So
[3:37] Speaker 4: like what you said, you sort of pick and choose
[3:38] Speaker 4: what you like. But hopefully with our insight and knowledge
[3:41] Speaker 4: into the industry for those who are unfamiliar, I've been
[3:45] Speaker 4: in trend forecasting for years now, working in London at WGSN,
[3:49] Speaker 4: which is one of the major trend forecasting agents. But
[3:52] Speaker 4: hopefully we can bring a bit of insight into where
[3:54] Speaker 4: these trends that are come from and why they've come about.
[3:57] Speaker 4: Now in spring twenty twenty six, so hopefully you might
[3:59] Speaker 4: learn something as well.
[4:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, let's kick off with colors, because I feel like
[4:03] Speaker 3: every season, especially I mean definitely for autumn, winter, with spring, summer,
[4:08] Speaker 3: we're all really invested in what's like the color of
[4:11] Speaker 3: the season. You have so much knowledge in this area
[4:14] Speaker 3: as a trend forecaster, and I'm really curious to know
[4:16] Speaker 3: what you're seeing and what you've been seeing coming through
[4:19] Speaker 3: in terms of color trends, So like, what are the
[4:21] Speaker 3: big ones we're going to be shopping and seeing.
[4:24] Speaker 4: So starting off with colors, there's a few colors that
[4:27] Speaker 4: are about but I guess where we come up with
[4:30] Speaker 4: colors and where that sort of comes from.
[4:31] Speaker 2: We're not sort of just pulling the colors that we like.
[4:34] Speaker 1: Right how sometimes I do, but you have a little
[4:38] Speaker 1: more context. I'd glad that you bring.
[4:40] Speaker 4: Yeah, there is a thing called the three x three
[4:42] Speaker 4: theory when you're looking at trend forecasting and predicting colors.
[4:46] Speaker 4: So WGSN, which is the major forecasting agent, they come
[4:50] Speaker 4: up with a color of the year. So this year
[4:53] Speaker 4: is transformative tier, which we've spoken about a lot on
[4:56] Speaker 4: the pod. Next year's luminous blue. Looking at twenty twenty
[5:00] Speaker 4: eight is radiant Earth.
[5:02] Speaker 1: What is luminous blue.
[5:04] Speaker 2: It's almost like.
[5:05] Speaker 4: An extension of transcorive teal, which we'll speak about, so
[5:08] Speaker 4: you'll see they sort of merge into one another. But
[5:11] Speaker 4: where these colors are coming from, it's almost like an
[5:13] Speaker 4: overarching macro cultural lens of what's going on. So, for example,
[5:18] Speaker 4: right now, transformative till this turquoise, which we'll get into,
[5:21] Speaker 4: is meant to feel tranquil, calming through this like technological
[5:25] Speaker 4: change and challenge that we're feeling as a society. It's
[5:28] Speaker 4: meant to bring calmness. And they think it's a color
[5:31] Speaker 4: that consumers and shoffers will resonate with and want to
[5:34] Speaker 4: purchase into. So that's what we're seeing transformative till. Then
[5:37] Speaker 4: you see that and you look for verification on the runway.
[5:40] Speaker 4: So we both knew turquoise was going to be a thing,
[5:43] Speaker 4: So you look for this three by three theory, So
[5:46] Speaker 4: you look for, for example, New York Fashion, we you
[5:49] Speaker 4: look for three designers who have three looks in that color.
[5:53] Speaker 4: That almost gives it verification and confirmation that that color
[5:56] Speaker 4: is really going to be a trend of the season.
[5:58] Speaker 1: Is this where that's saying three is a trend kind
[6:01] Speaker 1: of comes.
[6:02] Speaker 4: Potentially because you are looking for it, and it's a
[6:04] Speaker 4: little bit harder than you think. Right, there's always going
[6:07] Speaker 4: to be lots of colors on the runway, but seeing
[6:10] Speaker 4: three designers have three specific looks in that color takes
[6:15] Speaker 4: actually a lot.
[6:16] Speaker 2: So that really cements it as the color.
[6:18] Speaker 4: So with all of that said, turquoise is really the
[6:21] Speaker 4: color of spring and the season.
[6:23] Speaker 2: Would you say, would you agree?
[6:25] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[6:25] Speaker 3: And I think it's this what I've been seeing is
[6:27] Speaker 3: it's not necessarily like your grandma's turquoise. It's more of
[6:31] Speaker 3: like a bright poppy. It's almost like our low color,
[6:35] Speaker 3: like a little bit brighter and more like punchy turquoise.
[6:40] Speaker 4: It's a more modern version of till cult Geier for
[6:43] Speaker 4: Spring twenty six have a really beautiful reference that we
[6:46] Speaker 4: can include if you're watching at home. But yeah, this
[6:48] Speaker 4: turquoise we're going to see everywhere. I personally really like
[6:52] Speaker 4: the color and I'm definitely going to be wearing it.
[6:54] Speaker 4: I love as well, just the pairing, even the red
[6:57] Speaker 4: that you've sort of got now, like that turquoise paired
[6:59] Speaker 4: next to like it a.
[7:00] Speaker 1: Bright red red. It's beautiful. You're seeing like there's.
[7:03] Speaker 3: A lot of color blocking this season, which we'll talk
[7:05] Speaker 3: about a bit more than it's about, is really bold color,
[7:08] Speaker 3: unexpected color combinations.
[7:10] Speaker 2: So true.
[7:11] Speaker 4: So maybe if you liked the pops of hot pink,
[7:14] Speaker 4: or you're thinking what could be that pop of color,
[7:16] Speaker 4: turquoise could be the answer. I like this visual that
[7:19] Speaker 4: I heard the other day where it's a pof of
[7:21] Speaker 4: color or a whisper of color, and that's where I
[7:24] Speaker 4: think the next color comes in, and that's a dusty rose.
[7:28] Speaker 4: And I feel like this will be the next butter cream.
[7:30] Speaker 4: Everyone loves butter cream. That's not going I love butter cream.
[7:33] Speaker 4: It's beautiful. I think I just love saying the word
[7:36] Speaker 4: butter cream. Yeah.
[7:36] Speaker 3: Butter yellow obviously has been hanging around first a few
[7:40] Speaker 3: like really almost two years now.
[7:42] Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, So I think dusty rose will be this
[7:45] Speaker 4: new butter yellow. We've seen it at the spring summer
[7:48] Speaker 4: twenty six Chanel Mark, Jacobs, Zimmerman, Chloe Valentino. It was
[7:52] Speaker 4: everywhere and even locally we've seen it. Currently with the
[7:55] Speaker 4: spring drop of age, they've got this really beautiful dusty rose.
[7:59] Speaker 3: I'm loving like a bright hot pink. I'm loving a
[8:02] Speaker 3: sherbet pink. And I'm excited about dusty pink as well
[8:05] Speaker 3: because it's just with it, you know, with olive skin.
[8:07] Speaker 3: I feel like that works quite well. The yellow not
[8:10] Speaker 3: not as much for me, yeah, washes me out, you know,
[8:13] Speaker 3: and just on the yellow. It is staying around this
[8:15] Speaker 3: spring everyone. So we love to coin a name.
[8:17] Speaker 4: So from butter cream yellow, it's now lemon sorbet yellow.
[8:21] Speaker 3: Of course, it's very evocative. It's giving, like Italian holiday, and.
[8:26] Speaker 4: That's almost that's a really great reference town that's sort
[8:28] Speaker 4: of bit so that butter cream is a bit warmer, softer,
[8:31] Speaker 4: creamier color, so it's got the warmer undertones. This new
[8:34] Speaker 4: lemon sawbet's got the cooler undertones. So it's brighter and lighter.
[8:39] Speaker 3: I can see lemon sorbet across silks and satin's, you know, lace,
[8:43] Speaker 3: that kind of thing. It lends itself more to those
[8:45] Speaker 3: sort of light, springy materials.
[8:48] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[8:48] Speaker 4: So the last color I want to mention is this
[8:50] Speaker 4: earthy red tone. Red's pretty predictable to see in spring summer, right,
[8:55] Speaker 4: there's always going to be a red. It's like florals
[8:58] Speaker 4: for spring brown.
[8:59] Speaker 1: She says, I'm wearing red. I'm feeling very self aware
[9:02] Speaker 1: right now. But yeah, Tomato.
[9:03] Speaker 3: It was Tomato Girl summer and red was Red's hung
[9:06] Speaker 3: around just like yellow. I mean, it's been so everywhere
[9:10] Speaker 3: and I'm loving it, sick, But like, what is the
[9:12] Speaker 3: evolution of.
[9:13] Speaker 2: This earthier redness?
[9:15] Speaker 4: We see a really great reference with Lacoste spring summer
[9:18] Speaker 4: twenty six and I think this is just sort of
[9:20] Speaker 4: predicting or moving forward to this radiant earth color that
[9:24] Speaker 4: I mentioned for twenty twenty eight.
[9:26] Speaker 2: I think we're just.
[9:26] Speaker 4: Moving towards this earthier color, and it's just the evolution
[9:30] Speaker 4: of this tomato red.
[9:32] Speaker 1: Okay, so it's a deeper red.
[9:34] Speaker 4: Deeper red, burnt red. Dare I say burnt red? But
[9:37] Speaker 4: what are you seeing, tam in terms of prints and fabrics.
[9:40] Speaker 3: I mean, there's still a lot of like bold, bright
[9:44] Speaker 3: stripes around, but where for autumn winter it was a
[9:47] Speaker 3: lot of that like striped top that's massively viral striped top,
[9:52] Speaker 3: the focus has shifted down to pants now, so for
[9:56] Speaker 3: the European and American spring summer there have been striped
[10:01] Speaker 3: pants everywhere.
[10:02] Speaker 1: I think this is a.
[10:03] Speaker 3: Really interesting one because traditionally stripe pants through a bit
[10:07] Speaker 3: of a hard cell for a lot of women with
[10:09] Speaker 3: different body shapes. You know, there's a vertical stripe, there's
[10:12] Speaker 3: a horizontal stripe. Vertical stripes can be quite elongating, but
[10:15] Speaker 3: they are a hard sort of print squear, yeah, but
[10:20] Speaker 3: they can look absolutely fantastic. So I think it's just
[10:23] Speaker 3: about the cut of the pant. The cut that I'm seeing,
[10:26] Speaker 3: it's more like a wide leg pant, a loose, wide
[10:29] Speaker 3: leg pant in a bright stripe.
[10:31] Speaker 1: So I'm excited about that. Yeah, I think I'll take
[10:33] Speaker 1: that one on.
[10:34] Speaker 4: Yeah, I think I'll miss that one. It's a bit
[10:37] Speaker 4: of a statement, isn't it.
[10:38] Speaker 1: Definitely?
[10:39] Speaker 3: This is where I've been talking about this a little
[10:41] Speaker 3: bit in the content I've been doing for AMEA, and
[10:43] Speaker 3: also I think we mentioned it on the show recently.
[10:45] Speaker 3: I talked about fun jeans having this moment, but it's
[10:48] Speaker 3: fun pants in general, and that's going to be reflected
[10:51] Speaker 3: in a few of the other print trends that we'll
[10:52] Speaker 3: talk about. It's this shifting of focus from the fun
[10:55] Speaker 3: top to the fun gene or the fun pant. So
[10:59] Speaker 3: we're seeing like those silk taffeta pants in bright colors.
[11:02] Speaker 3: We're seeing barrel jeans in prints, this kind of thing.
[11:05] Speaker 3: So the stripe pant is another version of that, whether
[11:08] Speaker 3: really eye catching statement element of your outfit is on
[11:11] Speaker 3: the bottom half front from the top.
[11:13] Speaker 4: I love that, tam because another trend we'll be seeing
[11:15] Speaker 4: in terms of Prince of Fabrics is denim, and I
[11:18] Speaker 4: find obviously denim like denim jeans, jeans and a nice top.
[11:23] Speaker 2: I love that version, but you a jeans girl, do
[11:26] Speaker 2: you know.
[11:26] Speaker 3: I've had to really face up to this lately and
[11:28] Speaker 3: realize that ultimately I'm not. I so appreciate a great gene,
[11:33] Speaker 3: and I have some gens in my wardrobe that I
[11:35] Speaker 3: always feel really good in, but on a day to
[11:37] Speaker 3: day basis, I just don't live in denim, not the
[11:39] Speaker 3: way that you do.
[11:40] Speaker 2: Which you know why the stripe pant resonates more with you.
[11:43] Speaker 1: It is because I want a fun pants, so.
[11:45] Speaker 4: You'll be in the stripe pants. I'll be in denim.
[11:47] Speaker 4: Denim for spring. As a print, it's again not particularly groundbreaking,
[11:51] Speaker 4: it's just more prevalent and seeing it so much on
[11:53] Speaker 4: the runway, which I find fascinating. I heard someone once say,
[11:56] Speaker 4: I think they worked in marketing for Mark Jacobs. Never
[11:59] Speaker 4: put denim on the runway. It doesn't make sense, like
[12:01] Speaker 4: it's not groundbreaking. But at the same time, we're seeing
[12:05] Speaker 4: innovation in denim, I guess more just creatively with sort
[12:09] Speaker 4: of embroidery, some prints, some cuts and colors dyed denim,
[12:14] Speaker 4: and that's what we're going to be seeing in spring,
[12:16] Speaker 4: which I love.
[12:17] Speaker 2: So there's two things with denim.
[12:18] Speaker 4: It's either like a recession indicator, they say, I don't
[12:21] Speaker 4: know if it is that, or partly that slash just
[12:23] Speaker 4: a cultural interest, you know. Obviously with the Y two
[12:26] Speaker 4: K and we speak all the time about jeans and
[12:28] Speaker 4: a nice top. I think both are just working in tandem.
[12:31] Speaker 4: But it is just a nice state for that people
[12:33] Speaker 4: are buying in spring. Another one I'm seeing is plaid
[12:36] Speaker 4: or check time.
[12:38] Speaker 3: I've seen so much reporting on this at the moment.
[12:40] Speaker 3: This is the new This has been trickling in for
[12:44] Speaker 3: years now. It was really embedded a couple of years ago,
[12:48] Speaker 3: literally at a Bataga Venetta show, Matthew Bluzzy when he
[12:51] Speaker 3: was the designer before he designed for Chanelle, did a
[12:54] Speaker 3: plaid shirt made of leather and it was like a
[12:57] Speaker 3: cultural reset. Do you remember this moment? It was worn
[13:00] Speaker 3: by Kate Moss and everyone just went plaid.
[13:03] Speaker 2: Again, you know.
[13:03] Speaker 3: And since then it's been a few years and it's
[13:06] Speaker 3: just been trickling, trickling, and now it's having that moment.
[13:09] Speaker 4: Plaid check tartan. Plut's just the North American wave of
[13:13] Speaker 4: saying tartan.
[13:14] Speaker 3: Yeah, tartan feels very traditional doesn't it now? I think tartan,
[13:18] Speaker 3: I think like reds and greens and Scottish.
[13:21] Speaker 4: And that's sort of it's been around since seventeen hundreds. Like,
[13:25] Speaker 4: I love the history of plaid, and of course we
[13:27] Speaker 4: can't mention clab without Vivian westword burbery.
[13:31] Speaker 1: Yes, but yeah, it has history.
[13:33] Speaker 4: Yes, But in terms of the history in the seventeen hundreds,
[13:37] Speaker 4: it was actually banned in the UK for wearing plaid
[13:40] Speaker 4: or tartan because there was a civil war between the
[13:43] Speaker 4: Scots and Britain and Britain one and they're like, well,
[13:46] Speaker 4: we're going to suppress the Scots. Everyone's band from wearing
[13:49] Speaker 4: plaid and tartan, and with that it's just created this
[13:53] Speaker 4: rebellion energy and people started wearing it and it created
[13:56] Speaker 4: almost like a patriarchy and this sort of rebellious side
[13:59] Speaker 4: of tartan and plaid. So you know that sort of
[14:02] Speaker 4: Indie Slee's rock. We're wearing a bit of tartan as well.
[14:06] Speaker 1: Is that why punk is so associated with plaid?
[14:09] Speaker 2: It was rebellious energy, isn't it.
[14:11] Speaker 4: Yeah?
[14:11] Speaker 3: And it still kind of carries out now, doesn't it,
[14:13] Speaker 3: Even just in a check shirt feels a little bit grungy,
[14:16] Speaker 3: so cool, so lots of plaid. We're also going to
[14:19] Speaker 3: see camo, so this has already been in the market
[14:22] Speaker 3: for winter. I like this one. I think it's more
[14:25] Speaker 3: of a micro trend. I don't think it's going to
[14:27] Speaker 3: have a lot of staying power. We're seeing a lot
[14:29] Speaker 3: of really cool camo and khaki pants at the moment,
[14:32] Speaker 3: some cool khaki jackets, but it's not like I don't
[14:35] Speaker 3: think we're going to be seeing like khaki dresses and
[14:37] Speaker 3: things like that. It's like a bit of a flash
[14:39] Speaker 3: in the pan, but it is definitely a cool way
[14:40] Speaker 3: to update your wardrobe in the moment.
[14:43] Speaker 4: Would you say, like we've seen the cowprint, the zebra print,
[14:46] Speaker 4: it's now camo.
[14:48] Speaker 3: Definitely, definitely just like the print of the moment. Yeah,
[14:51] Speaker 3: so I wouldn't invest heavily in a Camo piece at
[14:54] Speaker 3: the moment, but I bought a pair of Camo track pants,
[14:58] Speaker 3: some cheapies from Best and Less. They've got a red
[15:01] Speaker 3: stripe down the side, and they're just like a you know,
[15:04] Speaker 3: easy accessible way to work the trend into mine wardrobe.
[15:07] Speaker 4: I bought a long sleeve, tight camo top from cotton
[15:10] Speaker 4: On that I just sort of wear with loose, baggy tawn.
[15:13] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[15:13] Speaker 1: C it's just a little accent.
[15:15] Speaker 4: Yeah, We've got plenty more spring trends to unpack after
[15:18] Speaker 4: the break. Okay, so that's looking at some of the
[15:35] Speaker 4: prints and fabrics. What are you seeing tam with the
[15:37] Speaker 4: silhouettes and cuts.
[15:40] Speaker 3: So, something that it would be remiss of me not
[15:43] Speaker 3: to mention is that the lower hems and the lower
[15:47] Speaker 3: waistlines are sticking around.
[15:49] Speaker 1: Definitely.
[15:50] Speaker 3: It's a real kind of nineties minimalist post Carolyn Bissett
[15:56] Speaker 3: Kennedy focus like that. We're still seeing a lot of this.
[15:59] Speaker 4: Yeah, so yeah, you're featuring the low rise midi scirit exactly.
[16:03] Speaker 3: Yeah, that exact shape is going to be everywhere. It's
[16:07] Speaker 3: been coming in and coming in. We've seen the likes
[16:09] Speaker 3: of you know, yeah, Hailey Bieber's your Kendall Jenner's, your
[16:13] Speaker 3: KaiA Gerber's wearing this style and I think that's just
[16:17] Speaker 3: so like emblematic of a big trend to come and
[16:19] Speaker 3: it's definitely filtered into the stores. Yeah, a lot of
[16:23] Speaker 3: Australian brands and designers are playing with that silhouette at
[16:26] Speaker 3: the moment, hand in hand with the midi skirts.
[16:29] Speaker 1: Bermuda shorts. Another one where I'm like, oh, I just
[16:33] Speaker 1: got to get over the light.
[16:34] Speaker 3: I swear a year ago, I was on this podcast
[16:36] Speaker 3: saying I can't do it. I can't do it, and
[16:37] Speaker 3: I'm like almost there.
[16:40] Speaker 2: It's this exposure therapy. I've read those.
[16:42] Speaker 4: I was like, oh, I don't know about that, and
[16:44] Speaker 4: now like I'm all into it. It's just funny that
[16:46] Speaker 4: you just familiarize yourself with it.
[16:48] Speaker 3: That's the fun thing about fashion, isn't it. You might
[16:51] Speaker 3: hate it the first time you see it. It takes
[16:52] Speaker 3: a little while.
[16:53] Speaker 4: The lower hands, so yeah, the jaws, the midi skirts,
[16:56] Speaker 4: but also just a longer mini skirt as well, which
[17:00] Speaker 4: I'm really enjoying.
[17:01] Speaker 1: Oh that's cool. Not so mini mini.
[17:03] Speaker 2: Yeah, not the micro Okay, love that.
[17:06] Speaker 3: And then also we were talked about Bermuda shorts, but
[17:09] Speaker 3: also this huge moment for Little Track shorts. This is
[17:12] Speaker 3: the added US track short that Zoe Kravitz just made
[17:17] Speaker 3: immediately viral when she wore them out in New York.
[17:19] Speaker 3: That's had a huge trickle down effect on the market.
[17:22] Speaker 3: We've seen added US shorts have a massive resurgence, and
[17:26] Speaker 3: now lots of brands are playing in that space with
[17:28] Speaker 3: little side stripe shorts. Yeah, we're seeing silk versions. We're
[17:32] Speaker 3: seeing lots of those little lace shorts. It's all kind
[17:35] Speaker 3: of in the same in the same style, isn't it.
[17:38] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[17:38] Speaker 3: So I think if you're a more feminine girl, or
[17:40] Speaker 3: you're kind of looking for that energy versus rather than
[17:43] Speaker 3: the sporty energy of an added us short, you could
[17:45] Speaker 3: go for the lace that style instead or the silk shot.
[17:48] Speaker 4: And maybe you are someone that's more inclined to a
[17:51] Speaker 4: shorter sort of mini skirt, this is where you could
[17:53] Speaker 4: do like the mini short instead because everything else is
[17:56] Speaker 4: that longer ham.
[17:56] Speaker 3: See, I would absolutely do a shorter short over it.
[18:00] Speaker 3: Like as a shorter girl, I find a shorter short
[18:03] Speaker 3: is more my speed.
[18:05] Speaker 4: And I'm loving that sporty staying around like it's so good.
[18:08] Speaker 4: I was sort of looking into it, thinking, oh, is
[18:10] Speaker 4: it on its way out? But it's more just one
[18:13] Speaker 4: of these buzzwords for fashion. It's just elevating, isn't.
[18:16] Speaker 2: Isn't it? But it isn't.
[18:17] Speaker 4: I think the whole look of sporty spice is on
[18:21] Speaker 4: its way out. It's this sporty sheep which will continue
[18:24] Speaker 4: to rise. And it's like you mentioned Zoe Kravis pairing
[18:27] Speaker 4: it with a heel.
[18:28] Speaker 3: Or whatnot, Yes, exactly, not the new balance, that's right,
[18:31] Speaker 3: Rather than a sneaker, it's it's that more like, yeah,
[18:33] Speaker 3: it's evening shorts, yes, yeah, even dare we say? And
[18:38] Speaker 3: in terms of what's sticking around, let's move on to accessories,
[18:42] Speaker 3: the bandana yes so yeah, so the bandana scarf, whether
[18:46] Speaker 3: it be the belt, bandana scarf, that's sticking around. I'm
[18:49] Speaker 3: happy about that. I like when a micro trend has
[18:52] Speaker 3: a little bit more longevity.
[18:53] Speaker 4: Right, a micro trend turns to a macro trend, and
[18:56] Speaker 4: that's what we're seeing. And to think we were here
[18:57] Speaker 4: maybe a year ago, being like, oh are we going
[18:59] Speaker 4: to do that? It felt a little bit funny wearing
[19:01] Speaker 4: the bandana belt. It feels so normal now just do
[19:04] Speaker 4: you feel normal again?
[19:05] Speaker 3: Exposure therapy and I almost put one on this morning
[19:09] Speaker 3: with my outfit.
[19:10] Speaker 1: Did you go?
[19:11] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[19:11] Speaker 1: I'm really playing, still playing with it and enjoying it.
[19:14] Speaker 3: And it's moved from just bandanna belts to fringe, you know, belts,
[19:18] Speaker 3: throwing anything around, any piece of material around your waist
[19:21] Speaker 3: really just to give that waste definition and a bit
[19:23] Speaker 3: of a visual point of interest to your outfits.
[19:26] Speaker 4: True, it's really great, isn't it In terms of cost
[19:29] Speaker 4: of living. It's just such a nice way to change
[19:31] Speaker 4: and mix up an outfit without doing too much.
[19:33] Speaker 3: You can go to Kmar honestly and they are really
[19:36] Speaker 3: onto it. You can get you know, a fabric belt,
[19:39] Speaker 3: a bandanna, whatever you need. I would just say I
[19:42] Speaker 3: would like to see some in bigger sizes, like you know,
[19:44] Speaker 3: if you've got a bandana around your neck, like in
[19:47] Speaker 3: terms of stretching that to fit around your waist.
[19:49] Speaker 1: Let's get some bigger scuf yeah, you know, putting that
[19:52] Speaker 1: out to the market.
[19:53] Speaker 4: But also the silk band data around the head so
[19:56] Speaker 4: worn classically as a band data almost that Like I
[19:59] Speaker 4: guess would you say pirate bandana pirates everywhere at Covidhagen
[20:04] Speaker 4: every second goal, but also just around.
[20:06] Speaker 2: The as well, just scars in general as an accessory.
[20:09] Speaker 3: Yeah, love it. The influence of bandana as a print.
[20:12] Speaker 3: At Paisley, we're really seeing an accessories. So we're seeing bags,
[20:17] Speaker 3: which is great. You know, just other sort of hints
[20:19] Speaker 3: of Paisley coming through as well, which is fun. Onto
[20:22] Speaker 3: other styles of bags that I'm loving. I'm going to
[20:25] Speaker 3: call it like an evening bag for daytime, so it
[20:28] Speaker 3: might be beaded, it might be a silk sort of
[20:30] Speaker 3: pouch bag, a little drawstring bag, just something that you
[20:33] Speaker 3: traditionally associate with evening but carrying that for day and
[20:38] Speaker 3: it's almost it's kind of.
[20:39] Speaker 1: Got a vintage energy to it.
[20:41] Speaker 3: And if you're looking for one, I do have a
[20:43] Speaker 3: few recommendations coming up in Boogie to Budget, but just
[20:46] Speaker 3: as a tip, look on Etsy, look in vintage stores.
[20:49] Speaker 3: This is where you find the real deal.
[20:51] Speaker 2: Come.
[20:51] Speaker 3: But yeah, I love a little beaded or embellished bags,
[20:54] Speaker 3: a velvet, that kind of thing that's really fun. And
[20:56] Speaker 3: then we're also seeing really large bucket bags.
[21:00] Speaker 1: Having a moment.
[21:01] Speaker 3: I recently saw a photo of Dua Lipa carrying this
[21:04] Speaker 3: massive I think it was from the Chanelle Cruise, I
[21:07] Speaker 3: want to say massive Chanel bag shaped like a sort
[21:11] Speaker 3: of triangle bucket. Yeah, and I was like, oh, we're
[21:13] Speaker 3: having a capacious bag.
[21:15] Speaker 4: Yes, sum I'll tell you a brand that's being slightly
[21:19] Speaker 4: revived here in Australia, Mimco. They had their thirtieth anniversary
[21:22] Speaker 4: and they've got these big bucket bags as well.
[21:24] Speaker 2: They look quite well.
[21:25] Speaker 3: Love that, yeah, so it's like a beach bag really,
[21:27] Speaker 3: but that you're carrying for day.
[21:29] Speaker 2: Nice.
[21:29] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's cool.
[21:31] Speaker 4: I'd love to talk about the shoe that we'll be
[21:33] Speaker 4: seeing in spring, and I think that's definitely the song
[21:35] Speaker 4: that's sticking around on the flip flop and the heel
[21:38] Speaker 4: kitten flip flop.
[21:40] Speaker 1: Yeah, that's not going anywhere. They're just a little bit.
[21:42] Speaker 1: They're they're evolving a little bit.
[21:44] Speaker 3: We're still seeing jelly shoes still having a big moment,
[21:47] Speaker 3: but I'm seeing more excessorizing of your shoes.
[21:50] Speaker 1: So there's shoes with.
[21:52] Speaker 3: Beads on them, like a strappy thong with beads. I
[21:55] Speaker 3: recently was having a look at I think Betts has
[21:59] Speaker 3: a style. I'm pretty sure Alias May has some like
[22:02] Speaker 3: this is a very like Y two K inspired shoe
[22:05] Speaker 3: that's coming through with the beads on it.
[22:07] Speaker 4: It sound very like the Chanelle spring Summer twenty seven.
[22:11] Speaker 4: So if I was looking at next year, do you
[22:12] Speaker 4: remember how they had the little beating on the hill.
[22:15] Speaker 1: Oh yes, yeah, yeah, that influence is coming through.
[22:18] Speaker 2: Yeah cool, Yeah, that longevity.
[22:20] Speaker 3: There, and then even seeing things like thongs that people
[22:23] Speaker 3: are accessorizing with like rings on them. And studs and stuff.
[22:27] Speaker 3: So it's about personalizing your shoes. That's still around, but yeah,
[22:31] Speaker 3: jelly shoes are everywhere. The List Index, which is a
[22:34] Speaker 3: quarterly ranking of the hottest items in fashion according to
[22:39] Speaker 3: search data and social media mentions on list the platform,
[22:43] Speaker 3: they recently announced there.
[22:44] Speaker 1: I think it was their Q two list. You're loving
[22:47] Speaker 1: me with this data. They're like, oh, yeah, give me
[22:50] Speaker 1: the data.
[22:51] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[22:52] Speaker 3: So they released their top ten products and I think
[22:54] Speaker 3: number three was the Skim's jelly shoe. So Kim Kardashian's
[22:59] Speaker 3: brand came out with a jelly shoe that has just
[23:01] Speaker 3: gone absolutely gangbusters. It's literally like an invisible PBC shoe
[23:07] Speaker 3: and it's got little holes, little ventilation holes dotted around
[23:11] Speaker 3: the bottom of the shoe, and basically the idea is
[23:15] Speaker 3: that you can walk in the water in them. So
[23:17] Speaker 3: people are people are walking in them and then videoing
[23:20] Speaker 3: what happens when you walk out of the water, and
[23:22] Speaker 3: they like just spout little water fountains out.
[23:24] Speaker 1: Of your shoes.
[23:26] Speaker 3: But that's not one of the most desirable shoes on
[23:29] Speaker 3: the BARKA I don't know.
[23:31] Speaker 4: Six months ago, remember tread footwear as a trend, so
[23:34] Speaker 4: core moving into tread footwear.
[23:36] Speaker 2: That sounds exactly like that's what that is.
[23:38] Speaker 3: It's a water shoe, and people are on Reddit like
[23:40] Speaker 3: you can't really wear them a's a water shoe.
[23:42] Speaker 1: I think that was easy.
[23:43] Speaker 2: See gosh, it actually happened. Yes, Jay, I like that.
[23:47] Speaker 4: Havianas are still around and they've got their kidd in
[23:49] Speaker 4: here that they've come out with slightly weird.
[23:51] Speaker 2: Have you seen it? It's very weird? I said, slightly,
[23:53] Speaker 2: it's very weird.
[23:54] Speaker 3: I got a press release for this and I was like,
[23:56] Speaker 3: I knew they were coming and then I was like, oh,
[23:58] Speaker 3: I didn't expect it to look like that.
[24:00] Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's like this whole weird shoe epidemic that
[24:05] Speaker 4: we're still in, right.
[24:07] Speaker 1: Yeah, they're getting weirder and weirder.
[24:09] Speaker 2: Absolutely, they're getting so strange.
[24:12] Speaker 3: So just to explain, it's not the Haavana's heel. It's
[24:16] Speaker 3: not quite what you expect. It is their first I
[24:19] Speaker 3: believe it's their first heel or that I'm aware of.
[24:22] Speaker 3: It's got a kitten heel, and then it's got Instead
[24:25] Speaker 3: of the toes all being exposed like you might expect
[24:28] Speaker 3: of a healed thong, the big toe is covered over
[24:31] Speaker 3: with rubber, Yes, big question mark for me, like cool,
[24:35] Speaker 3: And we saw them at Copenhagen Fashion Week. I think
[24:37] Speaker 3: they were seeded through PR so they had some campaigns
[24:40] Speaker 3: going on with some of the girls attending to wear
[24:42] Speaker 3: these shoes and debut them in the market. Look, I
[24:45] Speaker 3: think they're interesting. I like that they took a swing
[24:47] Speaker 3: and did something different. But will they pop off on
[24:50] Speaker 3: the market like the thongs have been recently.
[24:53] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[24:53] Speaker 2: And it's it feels slightly like a marketing gimmick, doesn't it.
[24:56] Speaker 2: Like brands.
[24:57] Speaker 4: No, they get this exposure and they're talked about if
[25:00] Speaker 4: they're slightly strange.
[25:01] Speaker 2: The Tabby shoe, well.
[25:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, the skim shoe is really good is a good
[25:05] Speaker 1: example of that.
[25:05] Speaker 3: But they have sold out worldwide, so that's a that's
[25:08] Speaker 3: a safe bet for them, Like they're going to reissue
[25:11] Speaker 3: those shoes. I want those shoes. I don't know why,
[25:13] Speaker 3: but I do.
[25:15] Speaker 2: Well, I want the Havia kidney. There you go.
[25:17] Speaker 3: Speaking of accessories, Lucinda, if my memory serves me correctly,
[25:22] Speaker 3: it was like thirty four weeks ago on this show
[25:27] Speaker 3: that you predicted that maximalist accessories were about to go
[25:31] Speaker 3: like nuts.
[25:32] Speaker 1: On the market.
[25:33] Speaker 3: You were so right, like that is alwa're seeing now,
[25:36] Speaker 3: So all credit to you. It's like you know something
[25:39] Speaker 3: we don't.
[25:40] Speaker 2: As a crystal fall.
[25:43] Speaker 4: So maximalist accessories quite maximalism as well. So if you
[25:47] Speaker 4: want to sort of dip your toe into the maximalist trend,
[25:49] Speaker 4: you do it via an accessory sculptural handbags as well.
[25:53] Speaker 4: We're having their moment last year and we'll continue into
[25:56] Speaker 4: spring summer twenty six.
[25:57] Speaker 3: Did you say quiet maximalist. Yeah, that's such a oxymoron,
[26:01] Speaker 3: isn't it? So not quiet luxury, quiet maximalm So like
[26:04] Speaker 3: a low key way of being a maximalism.
[26:07] Speaker 4: Actually, right, So it's a way of trying out because
[26:10] Speaker 4: maximalism can be quite extravagant, right, and an eccentric eclectic.
[26:14] Speaker 1: If it's your whole outfit.
[26:16] Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think people are yearning bits of that,
[26:19] Speaker 4: and I think we all look at say Copenhagen street
[26:22] Speaker 4: style and love it, but it almost feels a little
[26:24] Speaker 4: bit too much for Australia's culture and Australia's.
[26:27] Speaker 1: Style more laid back.
[26:28] Speaker 3: We kind of want to unpick it a little bit,
[26:31] Speaker 3: and I select some bits from that rather than just
[26:34] Speaker 3: do the whole look.
[26:35] Speaker 2: So that's the sentiment there.
[26:36] Speaker 4: So you try out via so quote unquote maximalist successories
[26:41] Speaker 4: and a great example is the sculptural handbag. So whether
[26:45] Speaker 4: that be the goldfish handbag or the beaded weird.
[26:48] Speaker 3: Or like the weird shoe like this is yeah, or
[26:51] Speaker 3: the cool that the hat we were talking about a
[26:52] Speaker 3: little bandanner.
[26:53] Speaker 1: It's like it's getting in a little accent.
[26:55] Speaker 2: That's right. Pillbox hats one that I'm doubling down on.
[26:58] Speaker 4: But I feel like in Australia, like we're talking about
[27:00] Speaker 4: packenhagen where a bit like you'd be an early adopter
[27:02] Speaker 4: of a trend to wear the pillbox.
[27:04] Speaker 2: Hat out and about Sydney.
[27:06] Speaker 3: I don't think i've seen in anyone. Yeah, I'd love to,
[27:08] Speaker 3: but it's just not our energy.
[27:10] Speaker 4: I just think you might like events, the races and
[27:13] Speaker 4: it's a piece of millinery. But in terms of like
[27:15] Speaker 4: out and about, I feel like you can and it's there.
[27:18] Speaker 2: It's just you're going to be that early adopt Just.
[27:20] Speaker 3: The irony with Australian style is like in Copenhagen they
[27:23] Speaker 3: wear more. In Australia we wear less, Like how.
[27:26] Speaker 1: Much less can we wear? So we're not going to
[27:28] Speaker 1: be adding a billbox hat. You know, we're going to
[27:30] Speaker 1: be stripping it back.
[27:31] Speaker 3: So it's just I think the what did you call it,
[27:34] Speaker 3: quiet maximalism suits us a lot better.
[27:36] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[27:38] Speaker 3: So one more micro trend that I want to bring
[27:40] Speaker 3: for accessories is the zigzag headband.
[27:43] Speaker 1: Have you been seeing this around? What do I mean?
[27:46] Speaker 3: I would think that would bring something up from your past.
[27:48] Speaker 3: It's like, okay, if you're a millennial or you lived
[27:51] Speaker 3: in the time of Y two K fashion the first
[27:53] Speaker 3: time around, there was a specific style of headband that
[27:55] Speaker 3: everyone wore. It was a zig zag shape getting so
[28:01] Speaker 3: you'd put it in your hair, push it back and
[28:03] Speaker 3: it would give your hair like a zig zag shape.
[28:07] Speaker 3: And it's such a niche thing, like a niche memory
[28:11] Speaker 3: for me. But I mean, it just brings it all
[28:13] Speaker 3: back thinking about it now. I had a few of
[28:15] Speaker 3: these when I was I don't know, a teenager. But
[28:18] Speaker 3: recently we saw Meumu, the high end brand, revived these
[28:22] Speaker 3: on the runway. Chloe seven Year modeled for the brand
[28:24] Speaker 3: and was seen wearing one of them on the on
[28:26] Speaker 3: the runway, and then Haley Bieber was in the campaign
[28:30] Speaker 3: for Meumu recently wearing a zigzag headband.
[28:33] Speaker 1: She obviously took some home from the shoot. She's been
[28:35] Speaker 1: wearing them around in the street style look.
[28:38] Speaker 3: She's been posting on Instagram wearing zigzag headbands. Then I
[28:42] Speaker 3: clocked Kendall Jennaer wearing a zigzag headband. They are happening,
[28:47] Speaker 3: and I just the way these are going to be everywhere.
[28:49] Speaker 4: I see them already on TikTok, just like Creators but
[28:53] Speaker 4: gen Z creators wearing them.
[28:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, I love that.
[28:55] Speaker 2: It's wait to find one.
[28:57] Speaker 1: At That's an easy one to dip.
[29:01] Speaker 2: The zig zag headband.
[29:02] Speaker 4: Yeah, I thought you were meeting maybe like a print
[29:04] Speaker 4: or something, but I know, not.
[29:05] Speaker 3: Like a Mazzoni zigzag pri nothing that extravagant.
[29:09] Speaker 1: So there you go.
[29:10] Speaker 4: Speaking of Mew Mew and some stranger trends that we're
[29:14] Speaker 4: going to be seeing in spring summer, they had the
[29:16] Speaker 4: Apron models walking down the runway wearing Aprons and quite
[29:21] Speaker 4: like this cottage core vibe to them Spring Summer twenty
[29:24] Speaker 4: six And that brings me onto my sort of stranger
[29:26] Speaker 4: trend that I've been seeing and I'm calling it meadow core.
[29:30] Speaker 2: I've actually just come up with that name myself. I'll
[29:32] Speaker 2: like it, but I feel like.
[29:34] Speaker 4: It's an extension from cottage Core. It feels very like
[29:38] Speaker 4: little house on the prairie. The smock dresses, the balloon sleeves,
[29:43] Speaker 4: cotton poplin, the matching little shorts and top, the little
[29:48] Speaker 4: bows down the front, frill lace.
[29:50] Speaker 2: You can get the vibe. Right.
[29:51] Speaker 4: Maybe you're baking some bread, you're living out in a cottage.
[29:54] Speaker 1: It's giving trad white Okay, you're giving.
[29:57] Speaker 4: Yeah, you're picking the apples outside of your cottage. And I
[30:00] Speaker 4: find it is funny this correlation with trad wife. I
[30:03] Speaker 4: think it's the lens you put on it.
[30:05] Speaker 2: See.
[30:05] Speaker 4: I think it's this dreamy gayeism that people are yearning
[30:08] Speaker 4: that they see meadow Core being. But I think people
[30:11] Speaker 4: are sort of associating with trad wife because of the
[30:14] Speaker 4: baking of the bread or this like similar lifestyle. But
[30:18] Speaker 4: I don't see that at all. I don't associate it
[30:20] Speaker 4: with tradwife.
[30:21] Speaker 1: It's more of just an aesthetic, isn't it.
[30:23] Speaker 2: Yeah, And that's right.
[30:24] Speaker 4: This is just a nice little word to tie up
[30:26] Speaker 4: this whole look, which, again, in terms of wearing cotton
[30:30] Speaker 4: white cotton in spring and summer, isn't necessarily groundbreaking. It's
[30:34] Speaker 4: more just We're seeing a lot of it, and it's comfortable,
[30:36] Speaker 4: it's practical, it's easy to wear, it's flowy, it's not
[30:40] Speaker 4: too tight.
[30:41] Speaker 3: I would say almost, you know how, like for the
[30:44] Speaker 3: last few years it's been all linen dresses and separate.
[30:48] Speaker 3: I think what you're saying is going to be this
[30:50] Speaker 3: like white roderiy anglaise, that kind of thing, Like this
[30:53] Speaker 3: is going to be the next iteration of that that's
[30:56] Speaker 3: everyone wears so true.
[30:57] Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, and even with your little cotton headband, your bandado. Yeah,
[31:02] Speaker 4: it's quite cute and it's feminine without being too romantic
[31:05] Speaker 4: as well.
[31:06] Speaker 3: I like that because the thing is you might not
[31:08] Speaker 3: want to be in like a floral maxi dress. This
[31:12] Speaker 3: is like, this is slightly I think this is Chica.
[31:14] Speaker 3: The little white baby dold dress.
[31:16] Speaker 4: Yeah, sort of the prairie Fi'm done, sort of like
[31:19] Speaker 4: Prisian vibe, isn't it just like that.
[31:21] Speaker 3: Little basket bag and yeah, yeah, yeah, you're you're painting
[31:25] Speaker 3: a nice picture and that I'll take.
[31:26] Speaker 4: You through to summer as well. So it's just like, yeah,
[31:30] Speaker 4: maybe it's not the linen matching set. It is this
[31:33] Speaker 4: beautiful smock dress or the little cotton shorts and top.
[31:35] Speaker 3: Jane Burkin, Yeah, isn't it. It feels very like Jane Berkin.
[31:39] Speaker 2: An easy styling just getting the matching shorts on top. Cute, cute,
[31:43] Speaker 2: it's cute. Love that.
[31:44] Speaker 1: Yeah. Brands that do that well. Posse Yes does that
[31:47] Speaker 1: really well, Dish guys.
[31:49] Speaker 4: Go look at the spring summer twenty six Lee Matthews.
[31:52] Speaker 4: They're all about this. Yeah.
[31:54] Speaker 1: Okay, that's a good tip.
[31:55] Speaker 4: So, and they're quite elevated brands, but I think we'll
[31:57] Speaker 4: start seeing it within like the cotton Ons and whatnot
[31:59] Speaker 4: as well.
[32:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, definitely. It's an accessible trend. So the one
[32:03] Speaker 3: I want to bring my challenging trend.
[32:06] Speaker 1: Is bored shorts. Are you ready for board?
[32:09] Speaker 2: Sure? So.
[32:10] Speaker 3: Do you remember when Margo Robbie was photographed at Sydney
[32:15] Speaker 3: Airport wearing that Bear Park outfit. She had a long
[32:18] Speaker 3: sleeve black cotton t shirt on and she had long
[32:22] Speaker 3: line black Bermuda shorts like silky the Bear Park outfit
[32:28] Speaker 3: that just was seen around the world. That was like
[32:30] Speaker 3: a reset, like everyone, Oh my gosh, so many tiktoks
[32:34] Speaker 3: that recreating that recreated. I think I have as well,
[32:37] Speaker 3: maybe not the Bermuda's you know that gave a lot
[32:39] Speaker 3: of people a new idea for how to how to
[32:41] Speaker 3: you know, dress in separates. So the effect of that short,
[32:45] Speaker 3: apart from its selling out for Bear Park, we've seen
[32:47] Speaker 3: longer line bermuda shorts, but rather than the structured ones
[32:50] Speaker 3: that we might be used to, that's sort of given
[32:52] Speaker 3: way too softer bermuda shorts, longer line sort of past
[32:56] Speaker 3: the knee, and then that has then spawned this emerging
[33:01] Speaker 3: trend for the revival of actual board shorts. So I'm
[33:05] Speaker 3: talking about like the long boardies that you know your
[33:09] Speaker 3: dad wears from Billabong. These are gonna be a fashion
[33:13] Speaker 3: item and the really early adopters are wearing them now.
[33:16] Speaker 3: So a few of my references Lara Worthington, She's got
[33:21] Speaker 3: a great like if you follow her on Instagram. She
[33:23] Speaker 3: has another Instagram where she just shares her own stuff,
[33:28] Speaker 3: keeps a TikTok yes, and she has on her Instagram
[33:31] Speaker 3: she has like one of those group chat themes, yeah,
[33:34] Speaker 3: where she says a lot of like quick outfit selfies
[33:37] Speaker 3: and things like that, a bit more behind the scenes,
[33:39] Speaker 3: and this is where I saw her wearing her board shorts.
[33:42] Speaker 3: So these were like Hawaiian print bodies. This is like
[33:45] Speaker 3: really that style. Leandra Medine Cohen, who we might remember
[33:49] Speaker 3: as the man.
[33:50] Speaker 1: Repeller she used to be called.
[33:52] Speaker 3: She's just a massive fashion influencer and taste maker. She's
[33:57] Speaker 3: been wearing a lot of board shorts of different sort
[33:59] Speaker 3: of lengths. There's some bodies in one of the new
[34:01] Speaker 3: Free People collections I'm seeing.
[34:03] Speaker 2: And this is all just like above the knee.
[34:05] Speaker 1: This is at the knee, at the knee.
[34:07] Speaker 3: Yeah, this is like almost a men's board short, Hawaiian print.
[34:11] Speaker 1: Low rain, low rise with the lace up waist. So
[34:15] Speaker 1: this is going to be around Are you going to
[34:17] Speaker 1: would you go there?
[34:18] Speaker 2: Yeah? I think I will.
[34:19] Speaker 4: I can see these on you and that's so I
[34:23] Speaker 4: used to wear these gosh as a kid.
[34:25] Speaker 1: Between Yeah, we all wore them, but the bee.
[34:28] Speaker 4: Yeah they were long and a bit daggy, sort of
[34:31] Speaker 4: like we were saying with this, what would I wear
[34:33] Speaker 4: them with? Probably just a flat haviana and a white singlet.
[34:36] Speaker 3: Yeah, that's cool the way you're yeah, that is that's
[34:38] Speaker 3: probably the template.
[34:39] Speaker 2: My head went to. Do I follow that sporty She
[34:42] Speaker 2: can wear it with a heel, but it's not quite that.
[34:44] Speaker 2: It's more I feel, how well is it?
[34:46] Speaker 1: I think it's going to get there.
[34:48] Speaker 3: I reckon getsh Maybe we'll be talking on this podcast
[34:51] Speaker 3: in a year and we'll be wearing board shorts with heels.
[34:53] Speaker 3: Another reference for you, actually, I saw someone on the
[34:56] Speaker 3: runway at Australian Fashion Week. I went to the Hanson
[34:58] Speaker 3: and Gretel show and they had board shorts of this style.
[35:01] Speaker 3: I also, when I posted about this on my Instagram,
[35:04] Speaker 3: the designer for the label Blanca and a peterra sh
[35:07] Speaker 3: she messaged me saying she was designing a pair for
[35:09] Speaker 3: blank at the moment. I hope I haven't given away
[35:11] Speaker 3: her design plans, but she was like, low key, I'm
[35:14] Speaker 3: literally designing some right now.
[35:17] Speaker 4: Interesting again, are you an early adopter wearing it this
[35:19] Speaker 4: spring summer or maybe it'll be a next year twenty seven? Yeah,
[35:23] Speaker 4: I wonderfully seeing people in the pillbox haart and board shots.
[35:26] Speaker 1: Wow, that's a look.
[35:29] Speaker 4: All right, Well let's look at ins and outs, what's staying,
[35:32] Speaker 4: what's going this spring?
[35:34] Speaker 2: Yes?
[35:35] Speaker 3: I think this is important because it's like stuff is
[35:37] Speaker 3: still around from last year and you don't want to
[35:40] Speaker 3: just obviously throw out your entire wardrobe. Like I made
[35:43] Speaker 3: good purchasing decisions last year and the year before.
[35:46] Speaker 1: I'm not ready to let go off, yeah for sure.
[35:48] Speaker 3: So yeah, in terms of the things that I'm still seeing,
[35:52] Speaker 3: definitely still seeing graphic teas. I'm wearing one today. I'm
[35:55] Speaker 3: wearing a big graphic tea, oversized tea. I'm never going
[35:57] Speaker 3: to let these go. But it's kind of evolved, you
[36:00] Speaker 3: know how the last year or two it's been sort
[36:03] Speaker 3: of like vacation inspired, like resorting.
[36:07] Speaker 1: Kind of prints.
[36:07] Speaker 3: Yea, it's more pivoting into words now, So I'm seeing
[36:11] Speaker 3: brands do like slogans and fun words and things like that.
[36:15] Speaker 4: Yeah, and vintage as well. Okay, so graphic teas is
[36:18] Speaker 4: still in and that's cool. Yeah, Still that's funny because
[36:21] Speaker 4: I've got oversized teas in mind.
[36:22] Speaker 3: Yeah, oversized teas, yeah sure, yeah, like a big boxyr tea.
[36:26] Speaker 3: Also a lot of plain ones, like they don't need
[36:28] Speaker 3: a graphic or a print on them in a color,
[36:30] Speaker 3: in a plane, like they're not going anywhere.
[36:32] Speaker 4: And I think that just leans into this whole oversized
[36:35] Speaker 4: nature that's sort of we're going on. This is a
[36:37] Speaker 4: trend just being flowy, comfortable, practical.
[36:40] Speaker 1: Absolutely so here for it.
[36:42] Speaker 2: Capris they're staying.
[36:44] Speaker 1: Capris are like they're just getting bigger.
[36:46] Speaker 2: They because it's funny.
[36:47] Speaker 4: I actually thought this would be a flash in the pan,
[36:49] Speaker 4: but no way, Jose, They're around.
[36:53] Speaker 3: What else, So anything with a kind of lace detail
[36:55] Speaker 3: I think I mentioned before, like the little lace shorts.
[36:58] Speaker 3: We saw a lot of the asymmetrical lace camis dresses
[37:02] Speaker 3: and like bias cut skirts around last season.
[37:05] Speaker 1: They're not like out of fashion, they're just I.
[37:08] Speaker 3: Think we're just seeing it more in shorts and even
[37:11] Speaker 3: these Bloomer pants. I mean, yeah, that is a bit
[37:13] Speaker 3: of a micro trend, the Bloomer But I like the
[37:15] Speaker 3: idea of a pant with a lace.
[37:17] Speaker 1: Hem on it.
[37:18] Speaker 3: Yea, yeah, yeah, so that's sticking around. And if you
[37:20] Speaker 3: bought a sheer pant or a lace pant last year, definitely.
[37:25] Speaker 1: Still fit those out.
[37:26] Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, especially with a longer line tunic or an
[37:29] Speaker 3: oversized tee on top.
[37:31] Speaker 2: Western Western touches are staying around.
[37:33] Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, I love that.
[37:35] Speaker 4: I like and I think as well, it's sort of
[37:37] Speaker 4: the pieces from Western are foundational pieces.
[37:40] Speaker 2: Like the jeans.
[37:41] Speaker 4: The Western jeans that you smoke about on the pod
[37:43] Speaker 4: fringing is kind of pretty classic in terms of for detail,
[37:46] Speaker 4: so it's easy to stick around just to highlight on
[37:49] Speaker 4: the word touches, don't go ahead to toe Western, just
[37:52] Speaker 4: whether it be a slight accent.
[37:54] Speaker 1: It's funny.
[37:54] Speaker 3: I've been watching a lot of Ella Langley, listening to
[37:57] Speaker 3: a lot of Ella Langley, the American country singer lately
[38:00] Speaker 3: and just loving her look and I'm so inspired, Like
[38:04] Speaker 3: every time I see her in you know, the boots
[38:06] Speaker 3: and the cool little like all that Western inspired turquoise
[38:09] Speaker 3: jewelry and stuff.
[38:10] Speaker 1: Showing something to me, I'm like, I want a dress
[38:12] Speaker 1: like that.
[38:13] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, the big belts. I'm sure she's having an
[38:16] Speaker 2: influence on the train.
[38:17] Speaker 1: She definitely is.
[38:18] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I'd say she's been influential in bringing that
[38:21] Speaker 3: look back. We mentioned it, you know, in the accessory section.
[38:24] Speaker 3: But wrong shoes, the wrong shoe theory that's still around
[38:28] Speaker 3: this spring and just ramping up, Like we said for you.
[38:31] Speaker 3: That might just be a pair of flip flops with
[38:33] Speaker 3: a tailored pant or it might be a more extreme
[38:36] Speaker 3: version of a shoe paired with something unexpected. So that's
[38:39] Speaker 3: still sticking around.
[38:41] Speaker 4: Do you know what I'm loving as well? The barrel
[38:42] Speaker 4: jeans with a little ballet flat. So that's silhouette. So
[38:47] Speaker 4: I used to wear like the straight leg or a
[38:48] Speaker 4: barrel jean with like a chunky sneaker. But I'm enjoying
[38:51] Speaker 4: that ballet flat that I used to find that looked
[38:53] Speaker 4: a bit odd, but it became a bit of a
[38:55] Speaker 4: trend and I feel like that's sticking around here.
[38:57] Speaker 3: Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I love that
[38:59] Speaker 3: as well. I was a real slow adopter of ballet
[39:02] Speaker 3: flats and I'm just now getting into them. And you know,
[39:06] Speaker 3: they go really naturally, I think with a wider tapered jean.
[39:10] Speaker 1: Yeah, it makes a lot of sense.
[39:12] Speaker 2: All right, Well, what's out then?
[39:15] Speaker 3: I hate doing this, but I'm going to say only
[39:18] Speaker 3: because you proposed an alternative Linen in general, I mean,
[39:23] Speaker 3: linen is like a perennial summer staple. Of course, you
[39:26] Speaker 3: can still wear a linen shirt, and some are a
[39:27] Speaker 3: beautiful flowy linen skirt.
[39:29] Speaker 1: But I just think we've had like a lot of.
[39:32] Speaker 3: Linen separates and dresses, and I think it's just going
[39:35] Speaker 3: to move towards, like we said, that lightweight cotton and poplin.
[39:39] Speaker 3: We're just seeing like a move away from everything linen
[39:42] Speaker 3: for sure.
[39:43] Speaker 4: Yeah, so I think something that's out is the Mocker browns,
[39:47] Speaker 4: the color of the year.
[39:48] Speaker 2: I know you love Mocker brown Oh oh my god.
[39:50] Speaker 1: I don't take this personally. I think it's time to go.
[39:52] Speaker 2: Don't you think it's exhausted. It's time. It was the
[39:55] Speaker 2: color of the year, was it last year? The year
[39:57] Speaker 2: before that? Mocker Moose?
[39:59] Speaker 4: The brands that still have like there's brands dna Is Browns,
[40:03] Speaker 4: think Camilla and Mark have just come out with like
[40:05] Speaker 4: an espresso color. So if you still browns, it's there.
[40:08] Speaker 4: Of course, it sort of falls in that the neutral family.
[40:12] Speaker 4: But just in terms of brown everything that's definitely out,
[40:15] Speaker 4: I'd lean more towards the dusty rose.
[40:19] Speaker 1: Can I put forward an alternative.
[40:20] Speaker 3: I'm seeing a lot of reporting right now that's just
[40:22] Speaker 3: saying black and white, Like we're so this is what
[40:26] Speaker 3: this is the.
[40:27] Speaker 1: Pendulum of fashion swinging.
[40:28] Speaker 3: It went browns, that color family, right, neutrals, and now
[40:32] Speaker 3: it's going back to classic black and white again. And
[40:35] Speaker 3: it's so funny because you know, maybe a year or
[40:37] Speaker 3: two ago, I was like, I can't imagine wearing black.
[40:39] Speaker 3: I can't imagine wearing black. It's brown now, And then
[40:43] Speaker 3: now I'm like, oh black again. You know, I want
[40:45] Speaker 3: to be wearing black and I want to be wearing white,
[40:47] Speaker 3: and I just think this is you know, we get,
[40:48] Speaker 3: like we've said a few times in this EP, it's overexposure.
[40:51] Speaker 3: We get so used to it. We crave something different.
[40:54] Speaker 3: So absolutely keep wearing brown. I mean, I have so
[40:57] Speaker 3: many great chocolate brown pieces in my wardrobe. I think
[40:59] Speaker 3: they do a slightly different job to that kind of
[41:01] Speaker 3: latte MoCCA, like late mocka, I'd more align with the
[41:05] Speaker 3: quiet luxury movement. Like chocolate brown I feel like is
[41:08] Speaker 3: a bit hardier, yeah, and has a bit more longevity.
[41:12] Speaker 3: And then I just think black feels fresh again. I
[41:14] Speaker 3: mentioned that outfit the Margo Robbie war that was full
[41:17] Speaker 3: black head to toe, and I'm seeing lots of black
[41:20] Speaker 3: head to toe on like chik women I follow, and
[41:22] Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, that looks so fresh.
[41:24] Speaker 2: Even in the runways spring summer, black and white everywhere.
[41:27] Speaker 1: Yeah, big time.
[41:29] Speaker 3: After the break, we're spilling the tea on what's staying
[41:31] Speaker 3: and what's going this spring.
[41:48] Speaker 1: Let's talk about the things in our.
[41:50] Speaker 3: Own wardrobes that were hanging on to and the things
[41:52] Speaker 3: that were ready to let go of.
[41:54] Speaker 1: To part with.
[41:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, this is so funny.
[41:57] Speaker 4: I'm actually doing an evay live tonight selling all my stuff.
[42:01] Speaker 2: I've got like eighty pieces, like an because of You.
[42:04] Speaker 4: A live auction. It's massive in Asia and it's sort
[42:07] Speaker 4: of just picking up now. So giving it a go
[42:09] Speaker 4: and I've got eighty pieces. It'll be really interesting. I'll
[42:11] Speaker 4: let you know how it goes.
[42:12] Speaker 1: Eighty pieces.
[42:13] Speaker 2: Everything a lot to get through, right, But that's how
[42:16] Speaker 2: fast it is.
[42:17] Speaker 4: It just goes really really fast. Because do you sell
[42:19] Speaker 4: your clothes as well?
[42:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm selling some items on ebays.
[42:22] Speaker 2: Yeah, now that I'm actually thinking about it.
[42:24] Speaker 4: So what I'm getting rid of in my wardrobe, I'd
[42:26] Speaker 4: say a lot of occasion wear dresses and tight dresses,
[42:31] Speaker 4: sort of talking about that larger flowia silhouette. I'm moving
[42:34] Speaker 4: away from skin tight naturally and everything that I wear.
[42:38] Speaker 4: I think that's following the trends and wear fashions heading,
[42:42] Speaker 4: but also just my lifestyle and age as well.
[42:45] Speaker 3: You do have a lot of like cocktail dresses and
[42:47] Speaker 3: things in your wardrobe, don't you, So you're ready to
[42:49] Speaker 3: kind of move away from that a little bit.
[42:51] Speaker 2: And sort of the one piece styling, Like I've got
[42:54] Speaker 2: lots of these.
[42:54] Speaker 4: Yeah, like you said, cocktail mini dresses that you style
[42:58] Speaker 4: through accessories, where I'm sort of liking two pieces now.
[43:01] Speaker 3: Separate some things has really taken over an evening. Where
[43:04] Speaker 3: hasn't it from dresses?
[43:05] Speaker 1: That's interesting?
[43:07] Speaker 2: Good call? What are you selling.
[43:09] Speaker 1: Something that I'm really ready to part with?
[43:11] Speaker 3: And this might be a bit controversial to say, but
[43:14] Speaker 3: I'm just I think I'm done with skirt. I saw
[43:16] Speaker 3: something on social media recently that made me think about it.
[43:20] Speaker 3: This woman was saying, I think on a podcast she
[43:22] Speaker 3: was saying, you just don't have to wear skirts anymore
[43:25] Speaker 3: if you don't want to, And I was like, so true,
[43:27] Speaker 3: And then my brain just went, huh, Like do I
[43:29] Speaker 3: ever really resonate with skirts?
[43:31] Speaker 1: Not really.
[43:32] Speaker 3: I kind of wear them, you know, when I feel
[43:34] Speaker 3: like I'm going to the beach or something and I
[43:35] Speaker 3: really need but I then again, it's like a sarong
[43:38] Speaker 3: or something. I live two meters from the beach, so
[43:40] Speaker 3: I just chuck on a sarong and walk over there.
[43:43] Speaker 3: But like when I'm going out, when I'm in my
[43:45] Speaker 3: day to day, when.
[43:46] Speaker 1: Do I ever need a skirt? It shorts? It's pants?
[43:49] Speaker 2: Yeah? Good, I like that.
[43:53] Speaker 1: It's very expensive, how wondred percent.
[43:58] Speaker 3: Well, since we've made room in our wardrobes, should we
[44:01] Speaker 3: get into bougie and budget where we talk about three
[44:03] Speaker 3: things that we are looking at on the market, One
[44:07] Speaker 3: at the more affordable end of the spectrum, one that's
[44:09] Speaker 3: sort of in that mid range spectrum, and then one
[44:12] Speaker 3: that's a splurge our bougie.
[44:15] Speaker 1: What have you got this week?
[44:16] Speaker 2: Mine?
[44:16] Speaker 4: So, speaking of that meadow core vibe, I've got some
[44:19] Speaker 4: smock dresses slash like baby doll. Just a beautiful white,
[44:22] Speaker 4: crisped cotton dress. So looking at my bougie. So it's
[44:26] Speaker 4: from the bram Pioni and Australian classically swimwear brand. But
[44:29] Speaker 4: they've got some really beautiful dresses. This is a Guardina
[44:32] Speaker 4: dress for three hundred and eighty dollars. Okay, yeah, beautiful
[44:36] Speaker 4: smock style dress, beautiful embroidery. My mid is a Savo skirt,
[44:41] Speaker 4: another Australian brand, really beautiful cotton dress. This one's got
[44:45] Speaker 4: a V shape at the front for one hundred and
[44:48] Speaker 4: thirty eight dollars.
[44:48] Speaker 2: It's got some ruffling as well.
[44:50] Speaker 4: So just sweet cute dresses for summer, just to throw
[44:54] Speaker 4: on like you were saying down.
[44:55] Speaker 2: To the beach. And my last is Trusty Glassans.
[44:59] Speaker 4: I love a Glassans and this is a popular beautiful
[45:02] Speaker 4: smock dress for forty nine ninety nine.
[45:05] Speaker 1: Oh it's an amazing fifty dollars.
[45:07] Speaker 2: Yeah for a nice little cute spring dress. There you go.
[45:10] Speaker 3: Love that You've inspired me to get one. I just
[45:12] Speaker 3: have to choose now. So I'm calling this like the
[45:15] Speaker 3: cool bag of the season. It's a nylon pouch bag right,
[45:19] Speaker 3: very nineties coded, either with a draw string handle or
[45:23] Speaker 3: just like a thin strap handle. My budget is from
[45:26] Speaker 3: a brand that I've shopped before and I really love
[45:28] Speaker 3: their bags. It's called bag You. They work with recycled
[45:32] Speaker 3: nylon and leather, so this is the draw string bag.
[45:35] Speaker 3: It comes in lots of colors, are red, which is
[45:38] Speaker 3: really great, but I really love just the classic black.
[45:41] Speaker 3: It's eighty dollars and it's just a small nylon bag
[45:44] Speaker 3: with a draw string. It's kind of that paper bag shape,
[45:47] Speaker 3: all right. Yeah, really cute. So that's my budget for
[45:50] Speaker 3: my mid range. It's a brand on Netaporter called Valesque.
[45:54] Speaker 3: It's the fear leather trimmed nylon tote bag and it's
[45:57] Speaker 3: three hundred and thirty dollars. So this is like a
[45:59] Speaker 3: rectangle shape bag, again, very nineties minimal shape with a
[46:04] Speaker 3: It's a nylon bag in red with a simple thin
[46:08] Speaker 3: leather strap. I just saw Haley Baber carrying a similar style.
[46:12] Speaker 1: I'm going to need one of those.
[46:14] Speaker 2: Cute.
[46:14] Speaker 3: Yeah, And then for my bougie I've gone to the
[46:17] Speaker 3: source of this trend, which is Prata. Of course, if
[46:19] Speaker 3: you're going to invest in a nylon bag, I mean, yeah,
[46:22] Speaker 3: Prata is the answer. So this is the Prata wish
[46:26] Speaker 3: Re nylon drawstring clutch bag. It's one thy one hundred
[46:29] Speaker 3: and ninety two dollars, which is a lot for nylon,
[46:32] Speaker 3: but you're also buying Prada, is it.
[46:34] Speaker 4: Yeah, but it's also affordable for a luxury hem yeah somewhat.
[46:37] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[46:38] Speaker 3: So this is like a ruby red color, a deeper
[46:40] Speaker 3: red color nylon drawstring clutch bag. It's got that signature
[46:45] Speaker 3: triangle Prita Pluck logo on the plane for exactly Yeah,
[46:49] Speaker 3: that logo is expensive. This is one of those if
[46:52] Speaker 3: you know, you know, kind of classic this time in
[46:54] Speaker 3: your wardrobe and I feel like you would have it
[46:56] Speaker 3: forever or you'd hand it down.
[46:58] Speaker 2: Yeah, you know. So nicely.
[47:00] Speaker 3: Yeah, well that was a lot of information, a big
[47:03] Speaker 3: trend download.
[47:04] Speaker 1: Obviously, you don't have to shop everything you heard.
[47:07] Speaker 3: There might be some things that you really respond to,
[47:09] Speaker 3: like us, some things that you're not as keen on,
[47:11] Speaker 3: but like I'm definitely inspired to shop from my spring
[47:13] Speaker 3: wardrobe and have a look at the things from last
[47:15] Speaker 3: year that I'm keen to get out again.
