[0:10] Speaker 1: You're listening to Amma Mia podcast. Mamma Mia acknowledges the
[0:15] Speaker 1: traditional owners of land and waters that this podcast is
[0:18] Speaker 1: recorded on whoever said orange is a new pink with
[0:22] Speaker 1: seriously disturbed laurels for spraying groundbreaking, Oh my god, you have.
[0:27] Speaker 2: To do it. You live for fashion.
[0:31] Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Nothing to Wear. The podcast solves
[0:34] Speaker 1: fashion problems and levels up your wardrobe. I'm Lee Campbell
[0:38] Speaker 1: and every week I sit down with an expert who
[0:40] Speaker 1: helps us work out how to get more out of
[0:42] Speaker 1: the clothes you already own and tells us exactly what
[0:45] Speaker 1: is and isn't worth adding to our wardrobe. Now, as
[0:47] Speaker 1: you know, I've been away for a few weeks and
[0:49] Speaker 1: part of that was a trip to Canada, and I'm
[0:51] Speaker 1: going to tell you a little bit about it at
[0:53] Speaker 1: the end of the episode. And that's why the delightful
[0:55] Speaker 1: Chelsea filled in for me a few weeks ago with Lacinda.
[0:58] Speaker 1: She's one of the new voices you're going to hear
[1:00] Speaker 1: a bit more on the podcast. Chelsea is one of
[1:02] Speaker 1: the entertainment writers here at Mamma Mia and has a
[1:04] Speaker 1: true passion for fashion, sharing her love and shopping hacks
[1:08] Speaker 1: on Instagram. So today I wanted to chat to Chelsea.
[1:11] Speaker 1: She's got some amazing insights about how being Chinese Australian
[1:15] Speaker 1: has shaped her self expression, and we're diving deep into
[1:18] Speaker 1: her wardrobe, almost literally, to find out where she shops,
[1:22] Speaker 1: how she shops, if she's organized, if she's a hoarder,
[1:25] Speaker 1: and the items that she owns that holds the most
[1:28] Speaker 1: sentimental value. So Chelsea, welcome back technically to Nothing to War.
[1:32] Speaker 1: You didn't episode with Lucinda, which I absolutely loved listening to,
[1:37] Speaker 1: But today it's all about you. We're going to get
[1:39] Speaker 1: to know you. So first of all, I get to
[1:41] Speaker 1: ask new guests two questions. Firstly, can you describe your
[1:45] Speaker 1: style in three words? For me?
[1:47] Speaker 2: I can try. I would say comfortable, eclectic, and edgy.
[1:53] Speaker 2: I hate using that word. Well I'm so quirky, but
[1:56] Speaker 2: I feel like it.
[1:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, you know, people, it describes what you're trying to say. Yeah, yeah,
[2:01] Speaker 1: it's something a little bit different. Yes, yes, great, I
[2:03] Speaker 1: like that. Eclectic. I like to be eclectic, but I
[2:06] Speaker 1: think I'm really just an unorganized mess. And so the
[2:11] Speaker 1: theory that we think is pretty true for a lot
[2:13] Speaker 1: of women wardrobe of clothes, but there's ten percent of
[2:16] Speaker 1: that wardrobe that we just wear more than the rest.
[2:19] Speaker 1: What's in your ten percent?
[2:20] Speaker 3: I have this black tank top that I got years
[2:24] Speaker 3: ago on Deepop Damn yep, and probably six days of
[2:29] Speaker 3: the week. That's something that I'm throwing on because it
[2:31] Speaker 3: just goes with everything. And I think more recently, the headband.
[2:35] Speaker 3: I know, it's like kind of come back.
[2:36] Speaker 2: Yeah, I have one or two and I think I
[2:39] Speaker 2: wear it probably seven days a week.
[2:40] Speaker 1: I need to get into a headband because my hair
[2:43] Speaker 1: is at an awkward length through it's always annoying and
[2:44] Speaker 1: in my face. But it doesn't go back to on
[2:46] Speaker 1: a full pony, so it's functional. It is it looks
[2:48] Speaker 1: so cute.
[2:49] Speaker 3: It's also one of those things where like I get
[2:51] Speaker 3: like my fringe or like the front of my head
[2:52] Speaker 3: gets a little bit early.
[2:54] Speaker 2: Same slick it back, throw a heapin on you.
[2:55] Speaker 3: Look.
[2:56] Speaker 1: Oh my god, you need to come on your beauty. Yeah.
[2:58] Speaker 1: I love that. And now I want to know what
[2:59] Speaker 1: that black tank is if you can track it down
[3:01] Speaker 1: and find new ones.
[3:02] Speaker 2: Yeah, I have it in a few colors, but the
[3:05] Speaker 2: black one is the one that.
[3:06] Speaker 1: Just goes with everything. All right. So, as I said, today.
[3:09] Speaker 1: The topic is kind of You. We've done a few
[3:12] Speaker 1: of these in the past. They're more of an in
[3:13] Speaker 1: conversation style episode to get to know you. You're going
[3:17] Speaker 1: to be joining us more on this podcast, which is
[3:19] Speaker 1: very exciting. So I want to know who are you,
[3:24] Speaker 1: What do you love, what do you do in your
[3:26] Speaker 1: spare time, what inspires you? Give us the lowdown on
[3:29] Speaker 1: who you are. Well.
[3:30] Speaker 3: So, I'm the entertainment writer here at Mamma Mia. So
[3:32] Speaker 3: I feel like it comes as no surprise that the
[3:35] Speaker 3: things I love really sort of live in that world.
[3:37] Speaker 2: I love to read, love to write, and.
[3:39] Speaker 3: I love movies and TV, and that's a lot of
[3:42] Speaker 3: kind of what inspires me as well fashion wise, but
[3:44] Speaker 3: just in life, I get a lot of inspiration from
[3:46] Speaker 3: pop culture and what I see on screen, and as
[3:50] Speaker 3: far as fashion goes, I feel like I actually draw
[3:52] Speaker 3: a lot of inspiration from the people in my life.
[3:54] Speaker 3: I have a lot of very fashionable friends, my sister,
[3:57] Speaker 3: my mom. I love looking at all photos of my
[4:00] Speaker 3: mom and my ground hoo and like pulling inspiration.
[4:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay, cool, I love that. Now, listen, you're
[4:07] Speaker 1: a writer and an author. Congratulation and you write so
[4:11] Speaker 1: beautifully about your bicultural experiences. So how has been a
[4:16] Speaker 1: Chinese Australian shaped your identity and your self expression beyond
[4:21] Speaker 1: the words that you write, Because you've written two beautiful books,
[4:23] Speaker 1: you are an incredible poet. But how has it shaped
[4:26] Speaker 1: what you wear and your beauty approach, your fashion, your wardrobe,
[4:30] Speaker 1: how you show up in the world.
[4:31] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's such a lovely question. Well, I mean I
[4:34] Speaker 2: feel like growing up kind of straddling to cultures. You
[4:37] Speaker 2: sort of grew up with.
[4:38] Speaker 3: These two very different lenses, and when you're younger, you
[4:42] Speaker 3: spend a lot of time trying to reconcile those two
[4:43] Speaker 3: things and trying to be one or the other.
[4:46] Speaker 1: Yeah. I was gonna ask if it tests to feel
[4:47] Speaker 1: like one or the other. Yeah.
[4:48] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think growing up it felt that way for
[4:50] Speaker 2: a very long time.
[4:51] Speaker 3: But I think now as an adult, those sort of
[4:55] Speaker 3: two cultures just feel intertwined in you, and I feel
[4:58] Speaker 3: like talking about fashion or beauty, it really trickles into everything.
[5:02] Speaker 3: So I feel like I draw a lot of inspiration
[5:04] Speaker 3: from Hong Kong, where that's where my family is from,
[5:07] Speaker 3: and Ossie fashion, so they're sort of both East and
[5:10] Speaker 3: Western influence, which I think is actually really beautiful.
[5:13] Speaker 1: Well it's the best of both worlds. Really, yeah, I
[5:15] Speaker 1: love that. So we're here to talk fashion and style.
[5:18] Speaker 1: It's called nothing to Wear. So what is your personal
[5:21] Speaker 1: approach to fashion and getting dressed?
[5:23] Speaker 3: I think for me, I'm quite an impulsive person, so
[5:27] Speaker 3: now in my twenty twenty five self, I try to
[5:30] Speaker 3: be quite intuitive with how I shop. I love going
[5:34] Speaker 3: on deep hop eBay, doing like vintage shopping, and I
[5:36] Speaker 3: feel like the bigger ticket items I try to secondhand shop,
[5:40] Speaker 3: and then yeah, for trends, I kind of go the
[5:43] Speaker 3: lower end, but I really shop like piece by piece
[5:46] Speaker 3: instead of having like an ideal look.
[5:47] Speaker 2: I don't really do mood boards and look books and things.
[5:49] Speaker 1: Like that either. I want to be that person that
[5:51] Speaker 1: it feels like too much work. I just see an
[5:53] Speaker 1: item that I like and I go, oh, it's cheap,
[5:55] Speaker 1: I'll buy it all. Oh it's expensive, I wish one
[5:57] Speaker 1: hundred percent.
[5:58] Speaker 2: That's me as well.
[5:58] Speaker 3: I feel like if I see something I'm like, does
[6:01] Speaker 3: this fuck joy? Does this piece of clothing make me excited?
[6:04] Speaker 3: Is it something I can afford? I'll think about how
[6:06] Speaker 3: I'm going to style it with stuff that I own,
[6:08] Speaker 3: and then I'll go ahead and get it. I don't
[6:10] Speaker 3: really think about it in terms of like I want
[6:11] Speaker 3: this look specifical life.
[6:13] Speaker 1: Say yeah, I also think like unless you're a celebrity
[6:16] Speaker 1: or someone that's constantly on camera, I mean misort of
[6:18] Speaker 1: on camera, but it doesn't count. But I just don't
[6:21] Speaker 1: think it looks like, Oh I like that top, it'll
[6:23] Speaker 1: go with enough things. I agree. Yeah, And how much
[6:26] Speaker 1: you said comfortable is one of your words. So how
[6:28] Speaker 1: much does practicality play into what you buy? Maybe it's
[6:32] Speaker 1: you buy it and then ends up in your wardro
[6:33] Speaker 1: when you don't wear it because it's not comfy, versus
[6:36] Speaker 1: wanting to you know, we work in a semi glamorous industry,
[6:40] Speaker 1: versus buying things because it feels aspirational. You know. I've
[6:44] Speaker 1: learned that lesson. It's like, oh, I work in media,
[6:47] Speaker 1: I'll buy this fancy thing and then I just live
[6:49] Speaker 1: in leggings. Yep. Yeah, So have you do you still
[6:51] Speaker 1: struggle with that?
[6:52] Speaker 2: I do a lot.
[6:53] Speaker 3: I think these days I try to be a little
[6:56] Speaker 3: bit more careful with that, because, like you said, I
[6:59] Speaker 3: end up having a wardrobe full of things because they're
[7:01] Speaker 3: not comfortable, I won't wear it.
[7:02] Speaker 1: Samee.
[7:03] Speaker 2: That's like a number one thing for me.
[7:04] Speaker 1: Like they're pretty, but no one sees them.
[7:05] Speaker 3: Yeah, even if it's like it could be the most
[7:08] Speaker 3: beautiful thing in the world, but if I can't. Also
[7:10] Speaker 3: because day to day I'm coming into the office, I'm
[7:13] Speaker 3: writing most of the day, so I'm sitting at my desk.
[7:15] Speaker 2: I really no way I get it.
[7:19] Speaker 3: Yeah, it has to be something that it's kind of
[7:20] Speaker 3: loose fitting on the waist. I can sit in it,
[7:23] Speaker 3: I can eat and do all that. So I feel
[7:25] Speaker 3: like that's like probably a top priority for me. I'll
[7:27] Speaker 3: see something. If I like it, I'll have to think about,
[7:29] Speaker 3: like is this comfortable practically.
[7:31] Speaker 1: I've learned that lesson at a good age. Trust me,
[7:33] Speaker 1: I've only just learnt it, and so I've still got
[7:35] Speaker 1: all the pretty things.
[7:36] Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean it's just it's like that sometimes,
[7:39] Speaker 2: isn't it.
[7:39] Speaker 3: I have like tons of dresses and things that just
[7:42] Speaker 3: or like even like corset type tops.
[7:43] Speaker 2: Yeah, but I mean I love it.
[7:45] Speaker 3: It's beautiful, but just like practically day to day just
[7:48] Speaker 3: not something that I would wear.
[7:49] Speaker 1: I agree with you, Okay, I want to talk and
[7:51] Speaker 1: get your opinion about fashion versus style. Are they different.
[7:57] Speaker 1: What is your opinion on those two terms.
[7:59] Speaker 3: I mean, I haven't given that a whole lot of thought,
[8:01] Speaker 3: but in my opinion, fashion to me feels a little
[8:05] Speaker 3: bit more external, where a style feels more internal and
[8:09] Speaker 3: kind of personal in a way. I feel like fashion
[8:13] Speaker 3: is kind of informed by more external factors, and sometimes
[8:16] Speaker 3: it's maybe what's trending, what's current, or maybe what was
[8:19] Speaker 3: trending at a particular period of time, whereas style feels
[8:23] Speaker 3: deeply personal and I think, you know, I might see
[8:25] Speaker 3: something I might not know if it's in fashion, but
[8:27] Speaker 3: i'll know if it's yea style.
[8:28] Speaker 1: Your stye. Yeah. And they tend to be I think
[8:31] Speaker 1: the things that live in your wardrobe the longest and
[8:33] Speaker 1: have the longest longevity, regardless of if they're an investment
[8:36] Speaker 1: piece or the price, because you're kind of subconscious picked
[8:40] Speaker 1: it rather than going, oh, red shoes, I better get
[8:42] Speaker 1: some red shoes.
[8:42] Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm absent.
[8:44] Speaker 1: I love that. That's a good way to put it.
[8:47] Speaker 1: Talked about shopping, Are we an in real life person?
[8:50] Speaker 1: Are we an online shop? But you mentioned being impulsive?
[8:54] Speaker 1: How do you control that? Do you have some strategies?
[8:57] Speaker 1: How do you go shopping?
[8:58] Speaker 2: So I feel like a bit of both. I feel
[9:01] Speaker 2: like the gen Z and Me is very much like
[9:03] Speaker 2: online love to brows?
[9:04] Speaker 1: Do you pop to get at computers all day? Sometimes
[9:07] Speaker 1: I just accidentally go over to a website.
[9:09] Speaker 2: It's just so much easier.
[9:11] Speaker 3: Also, just for convenience sake, I think, Yeah, that's kind
[9:13] Speaker 3: of how I've shopped for the last I mean several years.
[9:16] Speaker 3: But I have recently started kind of going back into
[9:19] Speaker 3: stores and having that and I love that so much.
[9:22] Speaker 3: I think it also can be like a bit of
[9:24] Speaker 3: a social experience. So I love to go shopping with
[9:27] Speaker 3: my mom y friends and kind of make a day
[9:29] Speaker 3: of it. And the experience of just going in and
[9:31] Speaker 3: trying things on, Yeah, I think is actually a lot
[9:33] Speaker 3: of fun.
[9:34] Speaker 2: So I think a little bit of both.
[9:35] Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I agree with you. I shop online now
[9:37] Speaker 1: more than ever before because life. But when I look
[9:41] Speaker 1: at what I wear the most, it's oftentimes the things
[9:43] Speaker 1: I've bought in real life, because I've seen the fabric,
[9:45] Speaker 1: I've really tried it on, you know, I've got you know,
[9:48] Speaker 1: I do a lot of online returns. I keep a
[9:51] Speaker 1: lot of my online purchases, but the things I really love,
[9:53] Speaker 1: oftentimes what I've touched physically before I've paid the money.
[9:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's so true.
[9:57] Speaker 3: I think like also, nothing can really replicate like being
[9:59] Speaker 3: able to try something. Yeah, And I feel like for
[10:01] Speaker 3: so long I really took that for granted.
[10:04] Speaker 1: Yes, And also I think you have to think a
[10:06] Speaker 1: little bit more, like even if it's just to walk
[10:08] Speaker 1: to the register now on the internet, just press one button. Yeah,
[10:11] Speaker 1: you don't even have to enter your credit cards.
[10:13] Speaker 3: And also crazy, well the shipping, it's you often I
[10:16] Speaker 3: find that I don't know if you're the same. You
[10:18] Speaker 3: tend to add more things to your basket, just like.
[10:21] Speaker 1: Say sixty dollars more to say I came out of
[10:25] Speaker 1: the shower yesterday. My son likes to research things on
[10:28] Speaker 1: my laptop. He's in kindy. He doesn't know what he's doing.
[10:30] Speaker 1: He had gone on too Amazon and bought these toys
[10:34] Speaker 1: because it's just like a big yellow button. He can't
[10:36] Speaker 1: really read, but he goes, you know, playing a video game. Yellow,
[10:39] Speaker 1: Great to the next step, Yellow to the next step.
[10:41] Speaker 1: That's so crazy, it's that easy. And you know, if
[10:44] Speaker 1: you don't have any self control, yeah, yeah, yeah, like me,
[10:47] Speaker 1: so trends yes or no, you'd be across them. Because
[10:51] Speaker 1: obviously you're just across the zeit ghost from a you know,
[10:54] Speaker 1: entertainment perspective as well, So you're always on social media,
[10:56] Speaker 1: always seeing what you know, famous people and non famous
[10:59] Speaker 1: people are doing. Are you into trends? You are? I
[11:03] Speaker 1: hope you are, because I am too. I don't do everyone,
[11:06] Speaker 1: but I feel like it's you meant to be embarrassed
[11:08] Speaker 1: to say I like trend.
[11:09] Speaker 3: I know exactly, like literally exactly what you just said.
[11:11] Speaker 3: I think, yes, I love a trend, but I don't
[11:14] Speaker 3: buy into every single trend.
[11:15] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[11:16] Speaker 3: I think.
[11:17] Speaker 2: For for instance, like when animal print came back, Lombard
[11:20] Speaker 2: print not for you.
[11:21] Speaker 3: No, I love it too. Now have like cowprint shoes,
[11:24] Speaker 3: my bag is left prate, like I.
[11:27] Speaker 2: Love it so much.
[11:28] Speaker 3: I think it's because I've always kind of loved that,
[11:30] Speaker 3: Like there was a period of time when I was
[11:31] Speaker 3: younger that was sort of in as well, and I
[11:33] Speaker 3: kind of kept all the things that I had and
[11:35] Speaker 3: I was really sad when it went out of style. Yeah,
[11:37] Speaker 3: so I think it's more about picking a trend that
[11:39] Speaker 3: you genuinely love and not just because everyone's way.
[11:41] Speaker 1: I agree, And that's a great example. Like you've always
[11:44] Speaker 1: had an affinity for animal print, but you probably didn't
[11:46] Speaker 1: buy much up until recently because it just wasn't around.
[11:49] Speaker 1: But then when a trend comes back or is around,
[11:51] Speaker 1: you've just got more choice. Yep. Agree, Like, for example,
[11:53] Speaker 1: Peplum's everywhere. I don't love peplum. I did it the
[11:57] Speaker 1: first time. I'm not going back there. But if I
[11:59] Speaker 1: was a peplum lover, now I've got heat to choose from.
[12:02] Speaker 1: So it's more just like you can dip in and
[12:04] Speaker 1: out when the tide comes with that trend, but don't
[12:07] Speaker 1: feel like you have to catch every wave.
[12:08] Speaker 3: Yes, And I also think if you're buying it because
[12:10] Speaker 3: you really really love that trend, even when it's no
[12:13] Speaker 3: longer a trend, there's opportunities where you can kind of
[12:15] Speaker 3: style it a certain way.
[12:16] Speaker 1: I just wear it because it makes me happy.
[12:18] Speaker 2: Agree. Agree.
[12:19] Speaker 1: This is an interesting one because I feel like these
[12:21] Speaker 1: two trends, I mean, they're not really trends, but they're
[12:23] Speaker 1: kind of movements are happening at the same time. First
[12:26] Speaker 1: we had quiet luxury, which is still kind of around,
[12:29] Speaker 1: and then now we're seeing maximalism. Do you err on
[12:33] Speaker 1: either side? Are you one or the other? And do
[12:35] Speaker 1: you think they can exist in the same Wardrobel, I'm
[12:38] Speaker 1: the same person.
[12:41] Speaker 2: I think.
[12:41] Speaker 3: Personally speaking, I am like a maximalist girl, like through
[12:45] Speaker 3: and through.
[12:46] Speaker 2: I love like bag.
[12:47] Speaker 3: Charms, phone charms, all charms. I love like I don't
[12:51] Speaker 3: know if fun prints, colors and kind of mismatching. Yes,
[12:55] Speaker 3: I'm a huge fan of that and kind of adding
[12:57] Speaker 3: a little bit of character to an outfit. In saying that, though,
[13:00] Speaker 3: I do think they can coexist, I think, you know,
[13:03] Speaker 3: maybe taking some things from the quiet luxury movement and
[13:06] Speaker 3: like getting really like higher quality foundational.
[13:09] Speaker 1: Pieces because maximalist doesn't have to mean a lot of things. No, yeah,
[13:15] Speaker 1: that's so sometimes people get confused.
[13:16] Speaker 3: Yeah, so I think they definitely can coexist and kind
[13:19] Speaker 3: of take little bits from each movement.
[13:21] Speaker 2: But personally speaking, I do.
[13:23] Speaker 3: I do love that maximalism is kind of having a
[13:25] Speaker 3: little bit of a comeback.
[13:26] Speaker 1: See I'm not either. I wish I was quite luxury,
[13:28] Speaker 1: but I'm just quite classic and boring. But my wardrobe
[13:31] Speaker 1: is maximalist just because I've got so much stuff, but
[13:34] Speaker 1: I don't put it on all together. Maybe thinks how
[13:36] Speaker 1: I need to get more aware out of my things,
[13:38] Speaker 1: just do some more quirky combinations.
[13:40] Speaker 2: Yeah, have some fun with it, you know, Yes.
[13:51] Speaker 1: So talk to me about getting dressed. Do you plan
[13:54] Speaker 1: your outfits the night before? Do you wake up and
[13:57] Speaker 1: just go with the vibes? Do you ever, like do
[14:00] Speaker 1: a Sunday night the whole week ahead? And how long
[14:03] Speaker 1: does it take you from picking the outfit to out
[14:05] Speaker 1: the door?
[14:06] Speaker 3: So, no, there's no planning involved whatso. But I think
[14:10] Speaker 3: I'm a pretty chaotic person, So I just go to sleep,
[14:13] Speaker 3: wake up.
[14:13] Speaker 2: I think. I mean it's weather dependent too.
[14:15] Speaker 1: Do you check it the weather?
[14:16] Speaker 2: I don't check it. I just look out the windows.
[14:17] Speaker 2: You're kind of same.
[14:19] Speaker 1: My husband always checks the weather.
[14:20] Speaker 2: Beginning it was mine, Oh it's gonna be.
[14:22] Speaker 1: Twenty seven today, and I'm like at seven am, I'm cold.
[14:24] Speaker 1: And I get to three pm and I was like, oh.
[14:27] Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm exactly the same.
[14:28] Speaker 3: So I'll just kind of look out the window, check
[14:30] Speaker 3: the vibe in the morning, see how I'm feeling. Yes,
[14:32] Speaker 3: in terms of throwing it together, maybe, I think picking
[14:34] Speaker 3: it generally takes longest, so I'll be like fifteen minutes maybe, but.
[14:38] Speaker 1: It's the least amount of time for that, and then
[14:39] Speaker 1: I get frustrated.
[14:40] Speaker 3: Same and then I'll end up walking out of the
[14:43] Speaker 3: house and something that I hate same.
[14:44] Speaker 1: I'll be like, I hate everything is on the floor,
[14:46] Speaker 1: and then when I get home from work, I'm like, well, yeah.
[14:49] Speaker 2: I'm exactly the same.
[14:50] Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't leave too much time to get ready.
[14:52] Speaker 3: But I also just don't think I'm someone who like
[14:54] Speaker 3: would the night before sit around and be like, oh, yeah,
[14:56] Speaker 3: let's think about what I'm gonna wear yeaheah.
[14:58] Speaker 2: It gotta be the on the day kind of thing.
[14:59] Speaker 1: Interesting. I think about an item sometimes, I like, I
[15:02] Speaker 1: really want to wear those pants this week, Yeah, tomorrow.
[15:04] Speaker 2: And then you style it on the day. Yeah, We'll
[15:05] Speaker 2: figure it out.
[15:06] Speaker 1: Then you wake up and it's pouring rain, You're like, well,
[15:08] Speaker 1: I want to wear my shep hair all right. So,
[15:12] Speaker 1: speaking of getting dressed in your wardrobe, what's your approach there?
[15:16] Speaker 1: Are you a color? Are you a hoarder? Is it organized?
[15:20] Speaker 1: Is it messy? How do you store your things? And
[15:22] Speaker 1: do you have any tips for wardrobe and organization?
[15:26] Speaker 2: I am like the worst person to ask for organizational tips.
[15:29] Speaker 1: Like ever, oh my god, I've met my kindred spirit.
[15:31] Speaker 1: Thank God. Everyone's sitting in that chair is so organized,
[15:34] Speaker 1: and I'm just like why can't I beat it.
[15:36] Speaker 2: I'm just not that I wish I was.
[15:38] Speaker 1: I'm just not.
[15:39] Speaker 3: Yeah, I think my wardrobe is very chaotic. I am
[15:43] Speaker 3: a hoarder. I just I mean, I'm a collector.
[15:47] Speaker 2: Same.
[15:47] Speaker 3: I love that I'm going to use that from now on.
[15:49] Speaker 3: I'm a collector, not a hoarder. Yes, but I find
[15:52] Speaker 3: it really hard to part with clothing. I do try
[15:55] Speaker 3: to every now and then do it a little bit
[15:57] Speaker 3: and do some you know, to clear the space for
[15:59] Speaker 3: new things. Yes, yeah, but it is hard. So I
[16:02] Speaker 3: mean there's probably items in my clothing that I've had
[16:06] Speaker 3: since like early UNI high school.
[16:07] Speaker 1: Yeah. Maybe that speaks to back to the style thing
[16:11] Speaker 1: that you're buying things in your style so you don't
[16:12] Speaker 1: want to get rid of them because they're still useful.
[16:15] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I think liked Yes exactly. I think there
[16:19] Speaker 3: are things that I've had for a long time that
[16:21] Speaker 3: maybe I haven't touched for a little while, but then
[16:24] Speaker 3: there will be an occasion. I know everyone say yeah,
[16:25] Speaker 3: like I'll find a time to wear it, but truly
[16:27] Speaker 3: that feels very real for me. Yeah, and you find something, Yeah,
[16:30] Speaker 3: I'll find something and I'll be like, oh, that still
[16:32] Speaker 3: feels my style. It feels like I could still pair
[16:34] Speaker 3: it with something, So I just find it hard to
[16:36] Speaker 3: throw things away.
[16:36] Speaker 1: I don't think you have to do it as long
[16:38] Speaker 1: as those things still bring you joy and you.
[16:40] Speaker 2: I agree, I agree.
[16:41] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm glad you're not organized like the rest of
[16:43] Speaker 1: as well. Okay, this is fun. Imagine you have an
[16:47] Speaker 1: unlimited budget, but you can only buy one color of clothing, shoes,
[16:54] Speaker 1: accessories for the rest of your life. What color and why?
[16:58] Speaker 2: It's going to be so boring and basic? But it's
[17:00] Speaker 2: got to be black.
[17:01] Speaker 1: Yeah, but you can go to Chanell and buy all
[17:04] Speaker 1: the black Chanels.
[17:04] Speaker 3: Yeah, exactly. You know, the world is your oyster. When
[17:08] Speaker 3: it comes to black, it would yeah.
[17:11] Speaker 1: I think, oh cream, like can we have? Can I
[17:14] Speaker 1: have very.
[17:15] Speaker 2: Variations of the same color?
[17:17] Speaker 1: Okay, well you know off white maybe? I mean black
[17:20] Speaker 1: is very classic. It's a hard one, isn't it.
[17:23] Speaker 2: It is hard?
[17:24] Speaker 3: I think the only thing with white. I think I
[17:26] Speaker 3: spoke about this last time. I don't have a lot
[17:28] Speaker 3: of white.
[17:28] Speaker 1: I have mostly white. Yeah, I don't wear a lot
[17:31] Speaker 1: of black. I think it's my hair, especially when it's
[17:33] Speaker 1: very dark in a bob and then when I wear
[17:35] Speaker 1: a black I feel like I look like a lego
[17:37] Speaker 1: or a floating hand. Okay, but it's the unlimited budget
[17:40] Speaker 1: that threw me because I think oftentimes what holds me
[17:43] Speaker 1: back from experimenting more with color is that I feel
[17:47] Speaker 1: like you need more combinations to put it with ye where,
[17:51] Speaker 1: you know. That's why I try and keep things quite neutral.
[17:53] Speaker 1: I don't try, but that's generally how I get there.
[17:55] Speaker 1: But if I've got an unlimited budget, then I can
[17:58] Speaker 1: buy all the different color combos.
[17:59] Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a question, it is, isn't it.
[18:02] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm going to take black and white off the table.
[18:04] Speaker 1: You have to choose the color.
[18:05] Speaker 2: Okay, it's brown count.
[18:08] Speaker 1: Yeah, Brown's I think round two.
[18:11] Speaker 3: Actually, if I'm not allowed black or white, I brown's
[18:13] Speaker 3: also having quite a quite a moment soft pot.
[18:17] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[18:17] Speaker 3: I just feel like it's still very neutral, but I
[18:20] Speaker 3: don't know something fun about it, you know.
[18:21] Speaker 1: I agree, and it just feels like rich. Yes, and
[18:24] Speaker 1: now we are rich, we can buy all the extensive crowd.
[18:26] Speaker 1: It's so true. What's the one item in your wardrobe
[18:29] Speaker 1: that has the most emotional or sentimental value?
[18:32] Speaker 2: For me? It's jewelry in general. So with fashion, I'm
[18:36] Speaker 2: a little bit more. I don't know.
[18:37] Speaker 3: I'm happy to, you know, try a trend or try
[18:40] Speaker 3: something different. Whereas with jewelry, I'm very very intentional about
[18:44] Speaker 3: what I buy, and I think that really comes from
[18:46] Speaker 3: my mom and my grandma, and they've kind of passed
[18:48] Speaker 3: down different pieces to me, and I try to build
[18:51] Speaker 3: a collection that I wear all the time that I'm
[18:53] Speaker 3: going to keep forever. Yes, Pie, Yeah, it would probably
[18:55] Speaker 3: be like a family piece. There's a like a pearl
[18:57] Speaker 3: necklace my grandma gave me that I wore on my
[18:59] Speaker 3: wedding day and that's just like so so special to me.
[19:02] Speaker 3: So probably like a family piece.
[19:04] Speaker 1: I had a necklace on my wedding day, but I
[19:06] Speaker 1: don't know what I've done with it. Thanks for minding
[19:08] Speaker 1: it was obviously, wasn't. I think my husband like went
[19:11] Speaker 1: to Levisa the day before because someone told him that
[19:13] Speaker 1: you meant to like send something.
[19:15] Speaker 2: Oh my god, that's so cute though.
[19:17] Speaker 1: Okay, a few more questions then we'll get into bougie
[19:20] Speaker 1: and budget. What's your favorite ever purchase you've made.
[19:25] Speaker 3: I would say I think I wore this on the
[19:27] Speaker 3: pod last time. I will just leather jacket. It's kind
[19:29] Speaker 3: of a blazer style leather jacket.
[19:31] Speaker 2: It's very old and worn in.
[19:33] Speaker 1: Black, yes, but they wear in so well.
[19:36] Speaker 3: But I actually got that in Japan at a vintage
[19:39] Speaker 3: store for like twenty dollars or something.
[19:42] Speaker 2: And I've worn it so much.
[19:43] Speaker 3: I wear it almost every day and it was worth
[19:46] Speaker 3: all the hours I spent sifting through those racks.
[19:48] Speaker 1: Oh my god. See, I'm a huge thrifter and I've
[19:50] Speaker 1: been to Japan, but not since thrifting has blown up there.
[19:53] Speaker 2: It's amazing.
[19:54] Speaker 1: I need like four days, two suitcases and go by myself.
[19:57] Speaker 2: You would love it.
[19:58] Speaker 3: It's amazing that just like the kind of variations of styles,
[20:01] Speaker 3: and there's like also like higher end obviously your designer
[20:03] Speaker 3: like luxury.
[20:04] Speaker 1: Yeah, but I still like sifting through the cheap style.
[20:06] Speaker 2: Oh, it's amazing.
[20:07] Speaker 1: And just the volume there because Australia getting great for thrifting,
[20:10] Speaker 1: but we just don't have the population to do the
[20:12] Speaker 1: donation for the thrifting.
[20:14] Speaker 2: Yeah, those whole like areas where like that whole.
[20:16] Speaker 1: It's like a whole street of shops for trench coat.
[20:20] Speaker 1: I think nothing to needs to go onto it. Okay,
[20:22] Speaker 1: last one, what do you think most people misunderstand about style?
[20:28] Speaker 3: I think maybe just some of the rules around fashion
[20:31] Speaker 3: and style. So one of the ones I think of
[20:34] Speaker 3: is that you have to dress to flatter your body
[20:36] Speaker 3: type or what that means, like fluttering, which.
[20:38] Speaker 1: We're really saying slimming, yes, or hiding bits that you
[20:41] Speaker 1: don't like, which is very you know, a magazine hangover
[20:45] Speaker 1: and apologies. I used to work at magazines. But flattering
[20:48] Speaker 1: can just I think flattering should mean what makes you
[20:51] Speaker 1: feel good. Yes, it might be an oversized T shirt.
[20:53] Speaker 2: Yea, yeah, one hundred percent.
[20:54] Speaker 3: I think it's if you feel good in it, then
[20:57] Speaker 3: it works, you know, then it's stylis flattering really?
[20:59] Speaker 2: Is you in a good mood?
[21:02] Speaker 1: Eyes?
[21:03] Speaker 2: Yes, yes, that's probably for me. Like what I feel
[21:06] Speaker 2: like is a little bit still outdated when.
[21:09] Speaker 1: You know, we still use the term because it kind
[21:11] Speaker 1: of gets to the point and we know what we mean,
[21:14] Speaker 1: but it feels outdated. Yeah, yeah, it just feel good fashion,
[21:17] Speaker 1: not slattering fashion. Yeah, you're a wise woman. It's very expensive,
[21:33] Speaker 1: how wondred Let's do boogie and budget. So it's just
[21:39] Speaker 1: anything we've recently purchased or in our wish lists are
[21:42] Speaker 1: in a new season, so you know, there's lots of
[21:44] Speaker 1: thing to choose from do you want to choose your
[21:46] Speaker 1: boogie your budget first.
[21:48] Speaker 2: I'll go with my budget first.
[21:50] Speaker 3: Both the things I've chosen are kind of the same
[21:52] Speaker 3: item but different price points.
[21:53] Speaker 1: Love, but I think it is good.
[21:54] Speaker 3: So my budget is the Zara ripped wide leg midwaist gene. Okay,
[22:00] Speaker 3: And last time I was on the pod, we spoke
[22:02] Speaker 3: about how ripped, Yes, distressing is back, which I love.
[22:08] Speaker 3: That's like a trend that I'm very much for. I've
[22:11] Speaker 3: been waiting, like eagerly waiting for it to come back.
[22:13] Speaker 2: So when I saw it.
[22:13] Speaker 1: On I know I need to get my head around it.
[22:17] Speaker 1: It is yeah, like we're not doing that massive hole
[22:20] Speaker 1: in our knee.
[22:21] Speaker 3: I mean, who knows that may like that make up,
[22:24] Speaker 3: but also these are a jeans are kind of like
[22:26] Speaker 3: a little like just a small step where they elevated,
[22:28] Speaker 3: slightly distressed here and maybe a little bit on the knee.
[22:31] Speaker 2: Then too crazy.
[22:32] Speaker 1: They're not your Grandma's not going to go let me
[22:34] Speaker 1: buy some jeans.
[22:35] Speaker 3: No, So I think these are kind of a little
[22:37] Speaker 3: taster of like a little bit of distressing that still
[22:40] Speaker 3: feels quite tasteful.
[22:41] Speaker 1: Cool. I love that. How much are they?
[22:42] Speaker 2: They are sixty nine ninety five, so not too bad.
[22:46] Speaker 1: And if you don't want to buy a brand new,
[22:48] Speaker 1: go thrifted because that's where all the old distressed ones
[22:51] Speaker 1: are have been donated. Or just buy someone distressing me.
[22:54] Speaker 3: Yes, I was going to say, if you have old
[22:55] Speaker 3: jeans that you never wear anymore, it's a nice just
[22:58] Speaker 3: like make some decisions for them a little bit.
[23:00] Speaker 2: There's like a million tatorials on you too.
[23:02] Speaker 1: Fum. Yeah, Well, my budget is also a pair of pants,
[23:06] Speaker 1: so they're a pair of you to go pants, and
[23:08] Speaker 1: I have last year's version. They're doing an almost identical
[23:11] Speaker 1: version this year, but they're not launched until mid October.
[23:14] Speaker 1: So what I love about the nuclear website is there's
[23:16] Speaker 1: a coming soon. Tab oh I don't know. Yes, it
[23:19] Speaker 1: makes me excited because it also makes me less impulsive
[23:21] Speaker 1: because I go there and think, oh, I can't get them,
[23:24] Speaker 1: and then I think about them. But I have these
[23:26] Speaker 1: pants in kind of like a light khaki olive, and
[23:29] Speaker 1: I have worn them to death, and that is not
[23:31] Speaker 1: to say they're not good quality. I just love them
[23:33] Speaker 1: and I get so many comments on them. So this
[23:35] Speaker 1: season's version is called the Linen Blend Barrel Leg Pants
[23:39] Speaker 1: fifty nine ninety. When I say Linen blend, it's not
[23:42] Speaker 1: that sort of Byron bay Lineny Lineny beach linen. It's
[23:45] Speaker 1: very kind of urban linen. You can wear them in
[23:48] Speaker 1: the city, you could wear them out to drinks. They're
[23:50] Speaker 1: so comfy, they're so good. Fifty nine fifty oh good.
[23:53] Speaker 2: I love a barrel.
[23:54] Speaker 1: Yes, and it's also it's not an extreme barrel, it's
[23:57] Speaker 1: quite it's, you know, a cool but tapered, wearable barrel.
[24:02] Speaker 1: I'm literally going to get a recolor this season because
[24:04] Speaker 1: I wish I did last year. They're so comfy, they're breathable. Wow,
[24:07] Speaker 1: I should be an ambassador your boogie. So you've got
[24:10] Speaker 1: a bougie version.
[24:11] Speaker 3: Yes, So my bougie version is the SUBI Super Serge
[24:15] Speaker 3: trashed again.
[24:16] Speaker 2: Distress.
[24:17] Speaker 3: These are a little bit more distressed, maybe a bit
[24:18] Speaker 3: too much for your taste.
[24:19] Speaker 1: With your taste you watch in three weeks, i'll be
[24:22] Speaker 1: come out.
[24:23] Speaker 2: I love these though.
[24:24] Speaker 3: There's a little bit more distressing on the front, and
[24:26] Speaker 3: I feel like, I don't know, I just I think
[24:27] Speaker 3: it's a part of me that used to wear distress jeans.
[24:29] Speaker 2: I still have all my distress jeans. Like when people
[24:32] Speaker 2: stopped wearing them. I was really sad about it, so
[24:33] Speaker 2: I feel like I still got that. Yeah, and I
[24:35] Speaker 2: can pull them out now and it's trendy again.
[24:39] Speaker 1: Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna work on that. Although why
[24:42] Speaker 1: in my mid forties do I feel like I have to?
[24:45] Speaker 1: But I agree they can look very cool, like even
[24:47] Speaker 1: if you do a distress gene but an oversized fitted
[24:50] Speaker 1: kind of blazer, like you don't have to look like
[24:52] Speaker 1: you're going to this game park.
[24:54] Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's you know what, It's the same
[24:55] Speaker 2: way I feel about.
[24:56] Speaker 3: You know, we talked about peplum before, how I hate
[24:59] Speaker 3: that when it was around back in the twenty tens
[25:01] Speaker 3: and the way it was styled. But I do think
[25:03] Speaker 3: there's some really chic and unique ways to style it
[25:06] Speaker 3: now that we weren't doing.
[25:07] Speaker 1: Agree, and it was agreed. So if there's a trend
[25:09] Speaker 1: that's coming back, forget how you wore it and look
[25:11] Speaker 1: at it with fresh eyes before you write it off. Yes, okay, Well,
[25:15] Speaker 1: my bougie is inspired by I just got back. Actually
[25:19] Speaker 1: you filled in for me, thank you. I was in
[25:21] Speaker 1: Canada for a workstrip. I was in Toronto, which I'm
[25:24] Speaker 1: moving to you by the way, this is my resignation
[25:26] Speaker 1: only joking. I've been to Toronto a couple of times,
[25:28] Speaker 1: but it's just above New York City. It's New York
[25:30] Speaker 1: City without the madness of you know that country at
[25:34] Speaker 1: the moment. And also the dollars pretty much on path
[25:36] Speaker 1: and they were all going into autumn winter. And what
[25:39] Speaker 1: I love to see was because we're seeing so much
[25:42] Speaker 1: summer or spring summer swede here, they're all the chocolate
[25:47] Speaker 1: and tan Swedes are still everywhere in Zara, in h
[25:50] Speaker 1: and m in Mango, and they get cold, cold, cold there.
[25:53] Speaker 1: So if you are thinking about investing in a Swede anything,
[25:56] Speaker 1: do it now. Wear it through summer. Obviously differently, not
[25:59] Speaker 1: to the beach. But we're seeing a lot of Swyede
[26:03] Speaker 1: for the first time in a hot season. But you're
[26:04] Speaker 1: going to invest. So I saw some really cool women
[26:07] Speaker 1: walking around and it was quite warm for the time
[26:09] Speaker 1: of year, so they were in there Swede loafers but
[26:13] Speaker 1: with shorts and a blazer or Swayede loafers with a
[26:15] Speaker 1: cool flowy maxi, which we can do now and then
[26:19] Speaker 1: you can wear them with you U jeans and stuff later.
[26:21] Speaker 1: So I've got a very affordable pair from one hundred
[26:24] Speaker 1: years ago that I wore on that trip, but it
[26:26] Speaker 1: made me realize actually they fell apart on the trip
[26:29] Speaker 1: pretty much. I mean there's some slippery stairs this so
[26:32] Speaker 1: all fell off. Anyway, I want a new pair of
[26:35] Speaker 1: beautiful kind of swayed I'm calling it a loafer, but
[26:39] Speaker 1: they're not really like a business loafer. It's kind of
[26:41] Speaker 1: a moccasin hybrid. My dream pair are the Todd's driving
[26:47] Speaker 1: shoes in Swede, and how.
[26:49] Speaker 2: Much of those they are?
[26:50] Speaker 1: One thousand, two hundred and thirty dollars. I'm always love them,
[26:54] Speaker 1: but I'm still not going to buy them because they've
[26:56] Speaker 1: got that like classic Todd's tread that's like like a
[26:59] Speaker 1: dry They call it a driving shoe, so I know
[27:01] Speaker 1: the base is durable, ye, But I ain't got one
[27:03] Speaker 1: thousand dollars to spend on sweet shoes.
[27:04] Speaker 2: The dollars are steep.
[27:05] Speaker 1: It's crazy, and I'm tough on my shoes. I do
[27:08] Speaker 1: have some fancy pairs, but I often get them on
[27:10] Speaker 1: deep hop.
[27:10] Speaker 2: Yep.
[27:11] Speaker 1: I'm not spending that much money on new shoes, so
[27:13] Speaker 1: in reality, I think I'm going to get the Sense
[27:15] Speaker 1: so Astro too. They are very similar, you know, like
[27:19] Speaker 1: I said, loafery but not business loafer, casual loafer, a
[27:21] Speaker 1: bit of a moccasin two hundred and forty nine okay,
[27:24] Speaker 1: and there's a bunch of different colour suedes. I'm going
[27:26] Speaker 1: to get the kind of darker tan erring on the
[27:29] Speaker 1: side of brown but not chocolate brown. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
[27:31] Speaker 1: I just want to wear them forever. I'm so excited.
[27:34] Speaker 1: A loafer is just I love a loafer. And I think,
[27:36] Speaker 1: you know, we all go oh summer blah blah blah,
[27:38] Speaker 1: but I still come to the office and I've done
[27:40] Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, Sometimes you want a close stow shoe, yeah, agreed.
[27:43] Speaker 1: Sometimes you don't want to wear sandals into me. Sometimes
[27:45] Speaker 1: you don't have a petty Sometimes the ac.

[27:51] Speaker 3: pair of los Chelsea.
