[1:11] Speaker 1: host Lye Campbell is away again this week, so I'm
[1:14] Speaker 1: joined by the fabulous Lucinda. Hello, my friend and we're
[1:18] Speaker 1: going to talk today about party season. Event season.
[1:21] Speaker 5: It's on, It is on, and it is safe to
[1:24] Speaker 5: say it's just that time of year again where our
[1:26] Speaker 5: calendar is getting full and choc a block of events,
[1:29] Speaker 5: and not only is that daunting, but it can get
[1:31] Speaker 5: really expensive.
[1:32] Speaker 3: There's so many things on.
[1:33] Speaker 5: You've got hens, parties, birthdays, work functions, baby shallows.
[1:38] Speaker 3: The list goes on, and it's.
[1:39] Speaker 5: So hard trying to find not only a really nice outfit,
[1:43] Speaker 5: but an event appropriate outfit. Yeah, so today we want
[1:46] Speaker 5: to look at event dressing and our tips on how
[1:48] Speaker 5: we can get around it without overspending.
[1:51] Speaker 1: Absolutely more money for champagne. All right, let's get into it.
[1:56] Speaker 1: So the first thing I want to talk about is
[1:58] Speaker 1: a bit of a contentious topic. It's what I'm calling
[2:01] Speaker 1: the death of the going out top. I wrote about
[2:03] Speaker 1: this for Mamma Mia recently. It was based on the
[2:07] Speaker 1: evidence that I'm seeing and you're actually wearing one today,
[2:10] Speaker 1: my friend. It's the rise of the basic singlet or
[2:13] Speaker 1: the basic tea flipping that formula that we're used to
[2:17] Speaker 1: of jeans and a nice top. Right, we're all internalized nies.
[2:21] Speaker 3: That was the naughties, wasn't it. Up with that.
[2:23] Speaker 1: We grew up with that, but now like we're flipping
[2:26] Speaker 1: that and it's like nice bottoms and a basic tea, right,
[2:31] Speaker 1: like a beautiful midi skirt or a you know, a
[2:34] Speaker 1: great elevated gene with a basic tank, exactly the way
[2:36] Speaker 1: that you've started today. I don't know if this is a.
[2:38] Speaker 3: Coincident actually wear this knowing that we talk about it.
[2:41] Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, I love that. So what do you think?
[2:43] Speaker 1: Is it really the death of the going out top
[2:46] Speaker 1: or is it just a fat well?
[2:48] Speaker 5: I think it is not necessarily the death of the
[2:50] Speaker 5: going out trend. But we are seeing more and more
[2:53] Speaker 5: celebs and taste makers wearing the white tank. It's all
[2:57] Speaker 5: over TikTok as well. So the whole white tank theory.
[3:01] Speaker 1: Wait, explain explain that to me.
[3:02] Speaker 5: So there's a creator called Childish Sambino side note, I
[3:06] Speaker 5: love that name.
[3:07] Speaker 1: That's funny where.
[3:08] Speaker 5: She said if you walk into an event in a
[3:11] Speaker 5: white tea and still be the sheakest, flyiest girl in
[3:14] Speaker 5: the room, you really are that girl.
[3:17] Speaker 1: You're that girl trying to be that girl, making that
[3:21] Speaker 1: tea look like a hundred bucks d a million bucks.
[3:25] Speaker 5: And then there's this all this chat around on TikTok
[3:27] Speaker 5: around where is the best white tea from? Like, it
[3:30] Speaker 5: is so hard to find a really good basic white tea.
[3:33] Speaker 1: Okay, so let's break it down a little bit further,
[3:35] Speaker 1: because like the pinpoint for this for me was like
[3:38] Speaker 1: Kendall Jenna and Kylie Jenner went to a basketball game
[3:41] Speaker 1: and they were both wearing plain white tanks. For me,
[3:44] Speaker 1: that was like the kickoff of this trend and it
[3:45] Speaker 1: went viral, like Kendall Jenna wears a four dollar Haynes
[3:48] Speaker 1: singlet looks more expensive than anything you own, And it
[3:51] Speaker 1: was like, Okay, that's all well and good, but how
[3:53] Speaker 1: do we make a white singlet look like a million bucks?
[3:56] Speaker 1: How do we be that girl? I feel like I
[3:59] Speaker 1: wasn't joking, Like your outfit it looks amazing, but how
[4:01] Speaker 1: have you put that together? How can we style a
[4:03] Speaker 1: really basic top and actually still give it flair if
[4:06] Speaker 1: we're going to a party without feeling like we're underdressed.
[4:10] Speaker 3: Well, firstly, it all starts with the white tank.
[4:12] Speaker 2: Right.
[4:13] Speaker 5: Finding the perfect tank I find actually quite difficult. I've
[4:16] Speaker 5: gone through so many and just all the different cuts,
[4:18] Speaker 5: and there's a lot of discussion on TikTok about where
[4:21] Speaker 5: the best white tank is from. I find I get
[4:24] Speaker 5: a lot of mine from cotten on Rosalie Russian. The
[4:27] Speaker 5: influencer mentioned that's where she gets hers from, and I
[4:30] Speaker 5: definitely love them.
[4:30] Speaker 3: They're cost effective. I think it's two for thirty.
[4:33] Speaker 1: Most of minor from there as well. I love Rosali
[4:35] Speaker 1: as well. I'll buy anything she mi, so that's good
[4:38] Speaker 1: to know.
[4:38] Speaker 5: Garage clothing was another one anthropology, like more of the
[4:42] Speaker 5: thin strap. I don't mind not wearing a bra, but
[4:45] Speaker 5: if you can find a nice white tank that you
[4:47] Speaker 5: feel confided in, that's a really good start. And the
[4:50] Speaker 5: bra or of any sort of loge that you can
[4:52] Speaker 5: wear underneath, I find that quite challenging because I've.
[4:54] Speaker 3: Actually got my brass strip showing. I'm hiding it with
[4:56] Speaker 3: her at the moment.
[4:57] Speaker 1: Is that intentional?
[4:58] Speaker 3: No, I don't mean to.
[4:59] Speaker 5: I guess it can be intentional, but I find that
[5:01] Speaker 5: quite hard trying to find the right bra under the
[5:04] Speaker 5: white tank as well, and then making the bottom your
[5:07] Speaker 5: statement piece. So I'm actually wearing the Deering World jeans
[5:12] Speaker 5: that I spoke about on the pod.
[5:13] Speaker 3: It was last week.
[5:14] Speaker 5: Yeah, them in the indigo color, and they've got like
[5:18] Speaker 5: a slight flare at the bottom.
[5:19] Speaker 3: Well, they're they're called straight, but I think there's a
[5:22] Speaker 3: little bit of it.
[5:22] Speaker 5: I can see a little bit of a flare, yeah,
[5:24] Speaker 5: And partnering with this like snake skin belt as well,
[5:27] Speaker 5: So you just make the bottom your statement and that's
[5:30] Speaker 5: where your eye is going to the gaze of your
[5:31] Speaker 5: eye is going to go to the bottom. So it's
[5:33] Speaker 5: the jeans, the belt, and then a nice boot as well.
[5:36] Speaker 5: But like you said, middi's are really big this season.
[5:38] Speaker 5: We're seeing remember the days of like the mini skirt,
[5:42] Speaker 5: so memu spring summer twenty two.
[5:44] Speaker 3: Do you remember those really small.
[5:46] Speaker 1: Do I remember? Oh boy, we unpacked them here.
[5:50] Speaker 5: And those hemlines are just getting longer and longer and longer. Yeah,
[5:54] Speaker 5: they're sort of coined that awkward knee length skirt.
[5:56] Speaker 3: Have you seen them?
[5:57] Speaker 1: Hate it?
[5:58] Speaker 3: And all the wearing those as well.
[6:00] Speaker 1: I know I'll get there, but like, give me a little,
[6:02] Speaker 1: give me a minute. I just can't wear like a
[6:04] Speaker 1: shapeless pencil skirt right.
[6:06] Speaker 5: Now, and then even down to the midi and then
[6:08] Speaker 5: to the maxi. And there's a I think called the
[6:10] Speaker 5: hemline in index theory. Have you heard of that Yeah, yeah,
[6:13] Speaker 5: and it's a sign that you could be going into
[6:15] Speaker 5: a recession the longer that hemline gets. Yeah, when you
[6:18] Speaker 5: look at Mi Andmu spring Summer twenty twenty four last year,
[6:22] Speaker 5: they were showing that awkward knee length. So to go
[6:25] Speaker 5: from the mini in twenty twenty two to twenty twenty
[6:28] Speaker 5: five showing that awkward knee length, it's pretty drastic when
[6:31] Speaker 5: he says.
[6:32] Speaker 1: Something, yeah, yeah, I want to challenge us a little
[6:35] Speaker 1: bit on the top. Okay, if we can just dig
[6:37] Speaker 1: in a bit further, because I have this theory that
[6:40] Speaker 1: I learned from a creator that I learned from a
[6:43] Speaker 1: fashion stylist called fefe Milm who's a friend of the
[6:47] Speaker 1: Pod and a friend of MoMA Mea. Feefee talks about
[6:50] Speaker 1: tabletop dressing. She says that you know, most commonly when
[6:54] Speaker 1: you're going to an event, obviously, unless it's like a
[6:56] Speaker 1: suare where you're standing up the whole time. You know,
[6:58] Speaker 1: if you're going out to dinner, if you're on a date,
[7:01] Speaker 1: you're going to be like showing the top half of
[7:03] Speaker 1: your outfit the most, right, So she's said to keep
[7:08] Speaker 1: the focus on the top half of your outfit, whether
[7:10] Speaker 1: it's through an interesting neckline or jewelry or whatever. So like,
[7:13] Speaker 1: how do we make the top half of our outfit
[7:16] Speaker 1: if we're just wearing a singlet interesting or do we
[7:18] Speaker 1: need to?
[7:19] Speaker 3: I don't know if we need to.
[7:20] Speaker 5: It's that understated cool that the white tank is bringing
[7:24] Speaker 5: to your outfit. It could be a nice statement necklace
[7:27] Speaker 5: and we're seeing the big chunky necklace having that resurgence.
[7:30] Speaker 3: It could be through the headscarf. We're seeing a lot
[7:32] Speaker 3: of any headwear as well, even for.
[7:34] Speaker 1: Me, Like you're inspiring me with your glasses, and I
[7:36] Speaker 1: feel like if it's like a daytime event, maybe it's
[7:38] Speaker 1: like kick ass pair of shades or something.
[7:40] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[7:41] Speaker 5: I even had a trucker hat I was gonna wear
[7:42] Speaker 5: with this outfit. I was giving like a little bit
[7:44] Speaker 5: of Western.
[7:46] Speaker 1: I'd love to see that next time.
[7:48] Speaker 5: But yeah, it could be through the eyewear or the
[7:50] Speaker 5: hat or But yeah, I do like.
[7:52] Speaker 3: The idea of just keeping it understated.
[7:53] Speaker 5: I do like that tabletop theory, but it is literally
[7:56] Speaker 5: just flipping that on its head.
[7:57] Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. We're going on under the table, all right.
[8:00] Speaker 3: So it's interesting that tabletop.
[8:03] Speaker 5: Most what you're seeing is just that top part of
[8:06] Speaker 5: your outfit if you're if you are.
[8:07] Speaker 3: Out for dinner or whatnot.
[8:09] Speaker 5: Why number three is actually around don't forget outerwear. So,
[8:13] Speaker 5: I know we're coming into spring summer. It is warming
[8:16] Speaker 5: up and the days the sun is out, even today,
[8:18] Speaker 5: it's beautiful. But as soon as that sun goes behind
[8:21] Speaker 5: a cloud or the sunsets, it can get chilli.
[8:24] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[8:24] Speaker 5: I think a lot of us spend so much time
[8:26] Speaker 5: and detail preparing our outfits and then you just grab
[8:29] Speaker 5: a coat on the way out, the weather changes and
[8:31] Speaker 5: then you're covering up this beautiful outfit that you spend
[8:34] Speaker 5: time on. So one of my biggest tips is just
[8:38] Speaker 5: consider your outerwear in spring summer and actually style it
[8:43] Speaker 5: with your outfit.
[8:44] Speaker 1: So how would we do what's an example of how
[8:46] Speaker 1: to do that? Do you think?
[8:47] Speaker 5: So just taking it into consideration, is it investing in
[8:51] Speaker 5: a lightweight trench or more like a cropped bomber or
[8:55] Speaker 5: a cropped jacket. If you are doing say the white
[8:58] Speaker 5: tank theory and showing some sort of middi skirt, it
[9:00] Speaker 5: is the crop could work really well because then yes.
[9:03] Speaker 1: I'm seeing a lot of these funnel neck jackets around
[9:05] Speaker 1: and I love the idea of that, like hitting at
[9:07] Speaker 1: the waist and then having a longer hemlne. I think
[9:09] Speaker 1: that's chic.
[9:10] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I always consider out ofwear.
[9:13] Speaker 5: It's such a shame when you just you cover it
[9:15] Speaker 5: up for the whole event. Yeah, and it's in a jackie,
[9:17] Speaker 5: you don't really like it was one from winter or something.
[9:19] Speaker 3: It doesn't go with the outfit. You could style it in. Yeah.
[9:22] Speaker 1: You could even do like a blazer with a belt
[9:24] Speaker 1: over the top to create some shape if you're doing Yeah,
[9:27] Speaker 1: like I think that's a good hack.
[9:28] Speaker 5: Yeah, So considering the event and what's on show, whether
[9:32] Speaker 5: it be tabletop or if it's out ofwear. So just
[9:35] Speaker 5: considering where you're going and what people will be seeing.
[9:38] Speaker 1: Yeah, she's smart, She's thought about it. Okay, I want
[9:41] Speaker 1: to talk about what do we think is like the
[9:44] Speaker 1: party dress or like the piece of the season that
[9:47] Speaker 1: we're going to see everywhere, Just like on a pervy level,
[9:50] Speaker 1: I love. I mean, you're a trend forecaster. I like
[9:52] Speaker 1: to predict, Like you know, I do a lot of
[9:54] Speaker 1: writing about the trends that are coming. So I'm always
[9:56] Speaker 1: very curious about this when summer rolls around. There's like
[10:00] Speaker 1: last year, for example, I feel like it was these
[10:02] Speaker 1: bright printed sets that everyone was wearing. The year before
[10:05] Speaker 1: that we had like the linen Maxi, right, everyone was
[10:09] Speaker 1: wearing a white or black leading dress. What do you
[10:12] Speaker 1: think is the style for this year?
[10:13] Speaker 5: So I think we're going to be seeing a lot
[10:15] Speaker 5: more muted tones. I remember a couple of seasons ago.
[10:18] Speaker 5: It's like the red remember red was big in summer,
[10:20] Speaker 5: that clowlah blue. It's that mocker brown, pistachio, that powder pink.
[10:25] Speaker 3: Or bubblegum pink, whatever you want to call it.
[10:27] Speaker 5: But in terms of like the fabrications, the lace, which
[10:30] Speaker 5: I think you've spoken about as well. Yeah, and playing
[10:33] Speaker 5: around with layering, almost intentional layering. So we saw a
[10:37] Speaker 5: lot with Copenhagen, but we're seeing a lot more of
[10:39] Speaker 5: that within our style and separates will be seeing but
[10:42] Speaker 5: not so much matching separates.
[10:44] Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, We're moving on from the sets into more
[10:47] Speaker 1: of like a not much so.
[10:51] Speaker 5: Buying a top buy not just buying that occasional dress,
[10:54] Speaker 5: buying the middi skirt, buying the short, you know, and
[10:58] Speaker 5: then the top, and then you can style it in
[11:00] Speaker 5: different ways, so it's not just opting for that one dress.
[11:04] Speaker 1: Yes, totally. I think separates are going to be huge.
[11:06] Speaker 1: I've seen a lot around, like when I've been shopping,
[11:09] Speaker 1: like a Dish Nude, Lucy Verge girl Sabo, like lots
[11:13] Speaker 1: of the brands that I personally scroll often too often.
[11:16] Speaker 1: Maybe it's like a strapless top paired with almost worn
[11:19] Speaker 1: like a tunic over pants, and that's this kind of
[11:23] Speaker 1: like really undone easy glamour, you know, and I love that.
[11:27] Speaker 1: I think it's like speaks to like the death of
[11:30] Speaker 1: sort of rigid, really rigid structured tailoring, and it's moving
[11:34] Speaker 1: towards this kind of feeling of ease, and it's really
[11:38] Speaker 1: coming through in the colors. Like you said, it's more muted.
[11:41] Speaker 1: It's like less like flashy, ah dopamine dressing, and it's more.
[11:44] Speaker 3: Like relaxed, chic and comfortable.
[11:47] Speaker 1: Yes, comfort.
[11:47] Speaker 3: So it's keen. What I was wearing last week on
[11:49] Speaker 3: the poot.
[11:50] Speaker 5: Actually it was a mini dress by it's actually in
[11:53] Speaker 5: my bougie so I'll talk about it later. But it
[11:55] Speaker 5: was a Maggie Marilyn mini dress, and it's an occasion dress.
[11:59] Speaker 5: I can wear it out and about to parties and whatnot.
[12:02] Speaker 5: But I had it styled with just a pair of
[12:04] Speaker 5: white dish pants and I was wearing it around the city.
[12:06] Speaker 5: So things like that where you're mixing matching and it's
[12:09] Speaker 5: intentional layering, which you wouldn't often do that.
[12:12] Speaker 3: We wouldn't be doing that a few years ago.
[12:14] Speaker 1: No, definitely.
[12:15] Speaker 3: It feels very new, Yeah.
[12:17] Speaker 1: But then also very old somehow, very like two thousands,
[12:20] Speaker 1: but in an elevated way, because I can go very wrong,
[12:24] Speaker 1: can it not?
[12:25] Speaker 3: So yeah, and it's nice. Maybe it's not.
[12:27] Speaker 5: As skin hugging or body hugging. I think it's just
[12:31] Speaker 5: those layers and just feeling comfortable.
[12:33] Speaker 1: Definitely, Definitely, I love it. Okay, let's move on. So
[12:37] Speaker 1: what else are you bringing to the table?
[12:38] Speaker 5: So one way, because it does get expensive, The whole
[12:42] Speaker 5: whole event season can get not just overwhelming, but expensive.
[12:46] Speaker 5: So one of my tips to save money is it
[12:50] Speaker 5: sounds obvious, but shop your friends or faith influences wardrobe.
[12:54] Speaker 5: So I'll start with friends first. If you've got some
[12:57] Speaker 5: close friends. I have two friends. We're all similar sizes,
[13:00] Speaker 5: and we really do share our wardrobe. I'm not a
[13:03] Speaker 5: big sharer. I hate sharing when we go out for
[13:05] Speaker 5: restaurants to dinner and sharing meals, and I don't like
[13:08] Speaker 5: sharing my day to day wardrobe. I probably wouldn't share
[13:10] Speaker 5: these jeans or things that you have on constant rotation,
[13:13] Speaker 5: but those occasion pieces I'm more than happy to share.
[13:16] Speaker 5: And my friends and I would kind of consciously buy
[13:19] Speaker 5: a look from maybe a more expensive brand like Harris
[13:22] Speaker 5: Taffa or Mateo. I'd buy the skirt, a friend would
[13:27] Speaker 5: buy the top, and then the other friend would buy
[13:28] Speaker 5: a jacket, so they still work in silent these pieces.
[13:32] Speaker 1: That's sorry, my mind is blown. What do you mean
[13:35] Speaker 1: you all just like buy it pie?
[13:37] Speaker 3: Yeah, so Bear Park.
[13:38] Speaker 5: I bought the Dolly skirt, and then my friend bought
[13:41] Speaker 5: the sheer top, and then another friend bought the Mateo jacket.
[13:44] Speaker 3: We all wear them individually, but if someone has an event,
[13:48] Speaker 3: they can go, hey, can.
[13:49] Speaker 5: I borrow that look and we all have that entire outfit,
[13:52] Speaker 5: which would have cost us maybe I don't know, two grand,
[13:55] Speaker 5: but we're able to just save money by buying those
[13:58] Speaker 5: select pieces.
[13:59] Speaker 1: What kind of coordination does this require? Is there a
[14:01] Speaker 1: dedicated group chat? How are you doing it? Tell me
[14:04] Speaker 1: all the thing?
[14:04] Speaker 3: Well, it's one of those things. How often are we
[14:07] Speaker 3: going to events at the same time?
[14:08] Speaker 2: Like?
[14:09] Speaker 3: Really, unless we're all going out to a dinner.
[14:11] Speaker 5: It's those events where it's just their event, maybe with
[14:14] Speaker 5: their family, it's their sort of work party or whatnot.
[14:17] Speaker 3: So that's a way to do it. But if you're
[14:18] Speaker 3: different sizes.
[14:19] Speaker 1: And I love about you, just drop that in, Like
[14:21] Speaker 1: that's a casual thing we all do. Like I could
[14:24] Speaker 1: just never like you're so type A and I'm so not,
[14:27] Speaker 1: but that's amazing. Yeah, if you want a whole look
[14:30] Speaker 1: and you could do that with friends, that's an option. Yeah,
[14:33] Speaker 1: But if you are different sizes, it's sharing those accessories
[14:37] Speaker 1: like hats or bags. We know that sculptural bags are
[14:40] Speaker 1: having a moment this spring summer.
[14:42] Speaker 5: That's a piece that you're not going to wear a lot.
[14:44] Speaker 5: Share those, swap those with friends.
[14:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, fun. Yeah, I love that.
[14:48] Speaker 5: And also if you've got friends that maybe used to
[14:52] Speaker 5: work with or you know, your buddies, you used to
[14:55] Speaker 5: be best mates at work and then you haven't seen
[14:57] Speaker 5: each other for six years you've moved on, reach out
[14:59] Speaker 5: to those people. What I've done in the past actually
[15:02] Speaker 5: is DMed a friend that I used to work with
[15:04] Speaker 5: and say, hey, I love the jacket you're wearing. Is
[15:07] Speaker 5: there any chance you know I can give you a
[15:08] Speaker 5: hundred bucks and I can borrow it from you and
[15:10] Speaker 5: then I'll dry clean it.
[15:11] Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's genius.
[15:14] Speaker 3: It's like that where your friends slash acquaintances.
[15:17] Speaker 1: Okay, what about friends from high school?
[15:22] Speaker 3: Okay, so we're going there. We went to school together,
[15:24] Speaker 3: we went to school.
[15:25] Speaker 1: Together, and now we're like reconnecting your later life.
[15:28] Speaker 3: And then also with content creators that you follow.
[15:31] Speaker 5: I have had people message me saying, hey, would you
[15:33] Speaker 5: be willing to sell that Venroy skirt?
[15:36] Speaker 3: Would you be willing to sell that? Mate?
[15:37] Speaker 1: I've had that too, and I never quite know what
[15:39] Speaker 1: to say.
[15:40] Speaker 5: Yeah, well I've done it and I either sell it
[15:43] Speaker 5: or just give it away if it's been gifted to
[15:45] Speaker 5: me and I'm done with it.
[15:47] Speaker 1: Yeah. On the topic of saving money, I want to
[15:49] Speaker 1: talk about like shopping smarter for party season, like where
[15:52] Speaker 1: we should maybe spend where we can save the pieces
[15:55] Speaker 1: that we can rewar. So I'm feeling like I want
[15:58] Speaker 1: to save on accessories. So I think this is just
[16:01] Speaker 1: a really smart one is like buy one shoe or
[16:05] Speaker 1: one statement, yeah bag or something that's going to see
[16:09] Speaker 1: you through the whole season, so not necessarily like it
[16:12] Speaker 1: could be a fun style that you compare with lots
[16:14] Speaker 1: of different outfits, but it's probably better to go with
[16:16] Speaker 1: a more neutral option for that mile age.
[16:19] Speaker 5: Do you agree, As much as it's really fun buying
[16:22] Speaker 5: like different fancy shoes, it's not worth it, is it?
[16:26] Speaker 1: I don't know, because like people, the thing is it
[16:28] Speaker 1: doesn't matter rewear as much as you want totally, but
[16:31] Speaker 1: like you know that people know that you've worn it, yes,
[16:34] Speaker 1: or you know what. I feel like, it doesn't like, yeah,
[16:37] Speaker 1: you get that excitement of wearing it the first time.
[16:40] Speaker 1: Then again, I'm going to challenge myself on that because
[16:42] Speaker 1: like my wedding shoes, I bought from Low Florandal years
[16:46] Speaker 1: ago and they were like my favorite thing that I've
[16:49] Speaker 1: ever spent money on, and I knew I wanted them
[16:51] Speaker 1: for my wedding and I've worn them to almost every
[16:54] Speaker 1: major event since. And they're not like a subtle, subdued shoe.
[16:58] Speaker 1: They're like gold lammy in a bow, like a stacked heel,
[17:02] Speaker 1: and they always make my outfit. So maybe do buy
[17:06] Speaker 1: the statement piece, but make sure it's something that does
[17:08] Speaker 1: team with lots of you know, like maybe it's not
[17:11] Speaker 1: red because.
[17:11] Speaker 5: You might be a shoe person. I'm not necessarily a
[17:15] Speaker 5: shoe person. So I can get by with just like
[17:17] Speaker 5: a standard shoe that I can get through the whole
[17:20] Speaker 5: spring summer with.
[17:21] Speaker 3: But if you really love a shoe and it is.
[17:22] Speaker 5: A statement piece, like that, own it and that is
[17:25] Speaker 5: your piece, your statement piece throughout the spring summer.
[17:28] Speaker 3: Totally.
[17:29] Speaker 1: But the only thing is, like people will tell me,
[17:30] Speaker 1: they'll be like, oh, you're in those shoes again, and
[17:32] Speaker 1: I'm like, can you Yeah I am.
[17:34] Speaker 5: There's all those sites now where you can rent the
[17:36] Speaker 5: bags as well.
[17:37] Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe that's an option.
[17:39] Speaker 1: Yeah, in terms of where to spend, I think you
[17:41] Speaker 1: can get more mileage out of your pieces by spending
[17:44] Speaker 1: on separates. Like we said, not one statement dress, right,
[17:49] Speaker 1: it's just this is obvious. But like you buy a
[17:51] Speaker 1: great midi skirt, you can wear that in multiple ways
[17:54] Speaker 1: rather than putting all your eggs in that one basket. Yeah.
[17:57] Speaker 5: I'm still learning this though, because you do see them
[17:59] Speaker 5: online and they're fun. Yeah, want to get the fun
[18:02] Speaker 5: party dress, but you're right, they end up you wearing
[18:05] Speaker 5: once and then you think you could wear it again.
[18:07] Speaker 3: But you want something.
[18:08] Speaker 1: Fresh one, get the fun party pants. Get like a
[18:12] Speaker 1: black lace pant or something that you can style by
[18:15] Speaker 1: day with like an oversized tea and then like dress
[18:18] Speaker 1: it up with a satin shirt or a blazer, like
[18:20] Speaker 1: there's just so many or a tunic, like we said,
[18:22] Speaker 1: there's so many more opportunities.
[18:23] Speaker 5: For sure, And if you are going to invest in
[18:26] Speaker 5: the occasion dress, do something like the Maggie Maryland that
[18:29] Speaker 5: I was wearing last week.
[18:30] Speaker 3: We can share it.
[18:30] Speaker 5: Here where it is just as it's navy d navy
[18:33] Speaker 5: almost black, so you can get that wear out.
[18:36] Speaker 3: Of it in the mileage.
[18:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, and then I'm just going to touch on re
[18:39] Speaker 1: wearing as well. I think something you can do is
[18:41] Speaker 1: like look at what the key trend was for last year,
[18:44] Speaker 1: Like obviously your eyes moved on. You want something new,
[18:46] Speaker 1: but don't like discard that great linen maxi that you
[18:50] Speaker 1: bought last year or two years ago. Like if you
[18:52] Speaker 1: have a basic white maxi dress, you know in linen,
[18:56] Speaker 1: there are so many ways to do that now for
[18:59] Speaker 1: this season, you could just like do it with a
[19:01] Speaker 1: you know, a flip flop this time and a great
[19:03] Speaker 1: like I said, a great pair of statement shades or
[19:05] Speaker 1: a different like different jewelry or something like, just don't
[19:08] Speaker 1: like dis regard it because it feels like that's not dated,
[19:12] Speaker 1: that doesn't date nothing.
[19:13] Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right, and things don't date that quickly. We
[19:16] Speaker 5: still can be wearing last seasons. That's probably a really
[19:18] Speaker 5: good point to save money. Like things we have to
[19:21] Speaker 5: be okay with wearing last season and it's just yeah,
[19:25] Speaker 5: over consumption is something we need to all be aware of.
[19:28] Speaker 5: I actually saw someone online where they're a dish Maxi dress.
[19:31] Speaker 5: I think it was from last year doing that Bandanna
[19:33] Speaker 5: trend over the top.
[19:34] Speaker 3: Oh that's such a good See.
[19:37] Speaker 1: I'm going to do that when I like, I could
[19:38] Speaker 1: do that this weekend. I've got something coming up just
[19:40] Speaker 1: at the pub. Yeah, just adding that little bit of
[19:42] Speaker 1: print around your way it looks different, yeah, or like
[19:44] Speaker 1: a Rafia hat or something like that, just to update it.
[19:48] Speaker 5: And on the whole over consumption and spending. Another tip
[19:52] Speaker 5: is gamifying thrifting. So rifting sort of turned into this
[19:58] Speaker 5: cool social game. So you get social clout and currency
[20:02] Speaker 5: from saying that something's thrifted, and you're almost proud of
[20:05] Speaker 5: saying that something is thrifted. Now and it isn't this
[20:08] Speaker 5: niche anymore. I feel like when we were at school,
[20:10] Speaker 5: there was like a small group of people that would
[20:12] Speaker 5: shop vintage and it was very sort of tumbler era
[20:16] Speaker 5: almost you just associate it with the fifties sixties sort of.
[20:20] Speaker 3: Pencil skirts that they'd get from Vinie's or whatnot.
[20:22] Speaker 5: Ye true, But now with so much consumption, you go
[20:26] Speaker 5: to Vinnie's. I went last week, and it's just last
[20:28] Speaker 5: year's stuff. Like we were saying, I've bought a Meca
[20:30] Speaker 5: Bridge green dress that I'm going to wear to a
[20:32] Speaker 5: Christmas party.
[20:32] Speaker 3: Amazing. So it's not as like moth granny stuff like
[20:36] Speaker 3: we think it is.
[20:37] Speaker 5: Yeah, there's some really great stuff you can get from
[20:39] Speaker 5: op shops and Vinnie's. So try and make a game
[20:42] Speaker 5: out of it and create a whole look. I encourage
[20:44] Speaker 5: you to try and create a look all from Vinnie's
[20:47] Speaker 5: and then that's a talking point at your party. You've
[20:50] Speaker 5: thrifted this whole outfit for under one hundred dollars.
[20:52] Speaker 1: That's amazing.
[20:53] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[20:54] Speaker 1: Yeah, what about the shoes? Would you throw shoes?
[20:56] Speaker 3: Great shoes? The other day?
[20:58] Speaker 5: They were just these little white sort of Mary Jane's
[21:01] Speaker 5: that I got. Shoes are always going to be harder
[21:03] Speaker 5: at Vinnie's with the sizes and whatnot, But definitely there's
[21:06] Speaker 5: some beautiful shoes at Vinie's.
[21:08] Speaker 3: There's lots of great pieces.
[21:10] Speaker 5: So I even think we should do a post together
[21:12] Speaker 5: where we pull a whole lot of occasion style dresses together,
[21:16] Speaker 5: all looks, and.
[21:17] Speaker 3: We share it on the Nothing to Wear. Absolutely.
[21:19] Speaker 5: Yeah, show that you can create occasion style pieces from secondhand.
[21:24] Speaker 1: Well, I find that My hack for this has always been, like,
[21:27] Speaker 1: go to the like bougie suburbs and go to their
[21:30] Speaker 1: op shops, because that's where like the bougie people get
[21:33] Speaker 1: rid of their olds last season dresses, like I did
[21:37] Speaker 1: the same thing. I literally got, you said, a Beckonbridge dress.
[21:39] Speaker 1: It just like clocked its memory for me. I got
[21:41] Speaker 1: a Beckonbridge dress in my size. I still wear it.
[21:44] Speaker 1: This was like eight years ago. I still wear it now.
[21:46] Speaker 1: I wore it to a wedding like last year, and
[21:49] Speaker 1: it was just this perfect classic Maxi dress with like
[21:52] Speaker 1: a really low V and I think I got it
[21:54] Speaker 1: for like eighty bucks, which it's not like it's twelve dollars,
[21:57] Speaker 1: but it was like previous season and yeah, so going
[22:01] Speaker 1: to the more affluent areas shopping their garbage. No, I'm
[22:05] Speaker 1: going to the more affluent areas and like shopping there.
[22:09] Speaker 1: I think, you know, hey, it could work for you
[22:11] Speaker 1: can really find some gems.
[22:12] Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, sure.
[22:13] Speaker 1: I'm a massive fan of op shopping and thrifting, So yeah.
[22:16] Speaker 5: Don't be afraid to shop secondhand. And also, just don't
[22:20] Speaker 5: get wrapped up in the pressure of events. I'm really
[22:23] Speaker 5: guilty of this. I think with the cost of living
[22:26] Speaker 5: at the moment, and everyone's talking about the event and
[22:29] Speaker 5: getting excited, and you might hear they're buying a new dress,
[22:32] Speaker 5: so you feel you should buy a new dress. And
[22:34] Speaker 5: then it's not just the outfit. It might be you're
[22:37] Speaker 5: getting a blow dry, were nails done. It all adds
[22:40] Speaker 5: up and it can feel really stressful. So don't get
[22:43] Speaker 5: caught up in the pressure. You're there to enjoy the
[22:45] Speaker 5: occasion whatever that may be a baby shower, hens. And
[22:49] Speaker 5: if you are getting stressed out by say the dress code,
[22:53] Speaker 5: decode it. So ask ask the person who's hosting the event.
[22:57] Speaker 1: Right, There's no shame in that. People feel weird about
[22:59] Speaker 1: asking and I'm like, no, they invited you. They want
[23:02] Speaker 1: you to be like potentially, they want you to be
[23:04] Speaker 1: on brief And there's.
[23:05] Speaker 5: Some really like ambiguous arbitrary dress codes out there, even
[23:09] Speaker 5: for my wedding, I had lounge wear, which I didn't
[23:12] Speaker 5: really know what it meant means so cool then, like
[23:14] Speaker 5: I just thought it would be cool to put on
[23:15] Speaker 5: the invitation. But there's some like space cadets or coastal
[23:19] Speaker 5: try and like narrow it in a little bit more,
[23:22] Speaker 5: or it's perhaps providing a mood board.
[23:25] Speaker 3: So this is flicking out too.
[23:27] Speaker 5: If you're hosting an event this season, some tips on
[23:29] Speaker 5: how you can make your guests feel comfortable, yeah, providing
[23:33] Speaker 5: thinking about the dress code, how important is it for
[23:36] Speaker 5: the event? So do you really need a say, coyote
[23:40] Speaker 5: ugly as a thing where it really will require everyone
[23:44] Speaker 5: to go buy a new outfit, or could you just
[23:46] Speaker 5: get away with having touch of cowboy. I think touch
[23:49] Speaker 5: of is a really nice tip if you want to
[23:52] Speaker 5: have people dressing up or have a bit of flair
[23:54] Speaker 5: without going all out and buying an outfit.
[23:56] Speaker 3: Touch of red, touch of white, touch of disco.
[23:58] Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, Yeah. I love that you could do touch
[24:01] Speaker 1: of Cody ugly today for example, Yeah, like in a
[24:03] Speaker 1: chik way, no shade, Like, I love your outfit, but
[24:08] Speaker 1: I'm really appreciating the snakes in the book.
[24:15] Speaker 5: In terms of people feeling stressed at events. I used
[24:18] Speaker 5: to work in events, and one of the mindsets that
[24:21] Speaker 5: we used to always think about when planning the dress
[24:24] Speaker 5: code is planned for the least confident person in that room.
[24:28] Speaker 5: So just say you're planning a hen's party, and this
[24:30] Speaker 5: is for anyone out there who may be planning that
[24:32] Speaker 5: for a friend or sister for the end of the year.
[24:35] Speaker 5: Don't choose, say, a coyote ugly if you know there's
[24:39] Speaker 5: going to be mum's mother in law's aunties there who
[24:41] Speaker 5: are just going to find that really uncomfortable. So yes,
[24:45] Speaker 5: there'll be like a small group of people who would
[24:47] Speaker 5: love that theme, But just try and choose a theme
[24:49] Speaker 5: that everyone will love and then the least confident person
[24:53] Speaker 5: they will make the whole day or experience better because
[24:56] Speaker 5: everyone's on that same vibe and same page. I also
[24:59] Speaker 5: found it really interesting there was a recent poll that
[25:02] Speaker 5: found that eighty percent of people would rather be overdressed
[25:04] Speaker 5: than underdressed. But the kicker was they still end up
[25:08] Speaker 5: playing it safe because they don't feel confident or not.
[25:10] Speaker 1: I was gonna say, I'm sorry, I don't believe that
[25:12] Speaker 1: for a second. No, I think most people would rather
[25:15] Speaker 1: be underdressed the overdressed. Yeah, no way, I counter that point.
[25:19] Speaker 1: I don't know. I question is sace.
[25:20] Speaker 2: No.
[25:21] Speaker 1: I just think people are so much more chill about
[25:23] Speaker 1: what they wear now. Gen Z's more chill about what
[25:25] Speaker 1: they wear. I don't know who you're polling there.
[25:28] Speaker 3: I'll give you an example.
[25:29] Speaker 5: I went to an event last year and Kelly mccurran
[25:33] Speaker 5: was actually there, and it was for a brand and
[25:34] Speaker 5: make a beauty brand, and she was. It was at
[25:36] Speaker 5: this beautiful dinner and everyone was dressed up, and I
[25:39] Speaker 5: remember walking in seeing her and she looks so beautiful
[25:42] Speaker 5: in heels and whatnot. I played the cool I don't
[25:44] Speaker 5: really care. I'm in sombers and I wish I was
[25:47] Speaker 5: dressed up for that occasion because it was just such
[25:50] Speaker 5: a beautiful setting surrounded by everyone else dressed up. So
[25:53] Speaker 5: but I think to your point, I agree with you.
[25:56] Speaker 5: It could be a generational thing. I don't think gen
[25:58] Speaker 5: Z's are dressing up like we are.
[26:01] Speaker 3: The millennials are not at all.
[26:03] Speaker 1: No, No, I think it's a very different approach to events,
[26:07] Speaker 1: like I've been to events with you know, both feels
[26:10] Speaker 1: funny to break down the generations, but all generations like
[26:12] Speaker 1: you go to a wedding and you've got like a
[26:13] Speaker 1: cross section of gen Z, millennials, sillennials, gen X, whatever,
[26:18] Speaker 1: and I always find it's that younger generation that has
[26:21] Speaker 1: the most like flexibility on what like a dressy look is.
[26:27] Speaker 1: Or maybe that's just like how I am interpreting it.
[26:31] Speaker 3: Also, where the trends are going, aren't they? Yeah?
[26:33] Speaker 5: Fair talking about what we're like, we're talking about the
[26:35] Speaker 5: skirts and the white tank like yeah, right, so yeah,
[26:39] Speaker 5: I don't know where.
[26:39] Speaker 1: That's very that's very cash or go back to the
[26:43] Speaker 1: source on that. Just challenge them. No, I didn't mean
[26:46] Speaker 1: to make it into like a whole thing, but I
[26:48] Speaker 1: just yeah, I find that really curious because I think
[26:50] Speaker 1: most people generally, if you ask them, like on the street,
[26:52] Speaker 1: would you rather be overdressed to an event or underdressed?
[26:55] Speaker 1: I mean maybe just for the anxious quotient of those
[26:57] Speaker 1: of that audience like me, I'd be like underdressed, don't
[27:02] Speaker 1: look at me.
[27:04] Speaker 5: Well, there's some tips I just find, Yeah, this time
[27:07] Speaker 5: of year is stressful, but plan for these events.
[27:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, listen back, study all our tips. There'll be a
[27:13] Speaker 1: test on it next week to tell if you want
[27:16] Speaker 1: to borrow any of our stuff, not the anxious person
[27:19] Speaker 1: being like, oh no, they're.
[27:20] Speaker 4: All it's very expensive, how hundred.
[27:34] Speaker 1: All right, let's roll into bougie and budget. Let's do
[27:37] Speaker 1: like the event dressing edition, something on your wish list
[27:40] Speaker 1: or maybe something that you've recently bought.
[27:42] Speaker 5: Okay, well, my bougie is a dress I've recently bought.
[27:47] Speaker 5: It was what I was wearing last week. It's the
[27:48] Speaker 5: Maggie Marilyn. It's called the dress all the bad boys like,
[27:54] Speaker 5: but it is. It was an investment. It was eight
[27:58] Speaker 5: hundred and ninety five dollars, okay, but I, like I said,
[28:01] Speaker 5: I wore it here in the city. I wore it
[28:03] Speaker 5: with a pair of pants. I find it's incredibly versatile.
[28:06] Speaker 5: It's Maggie Marilyn, so you're buying New Zealand Esqustralia. But
[28:11] Speaker 5: the thing I love about this dress, and it's almost
[28:13] Speaker 5: a little tit within this bougie is I got it
[28:16] Speaker 5: from a store in Barrel called the Wildstone. But they're
[28:19] Speaker 5: online as well, but they have the exclusive dress. So
[28:22] Speaker 5: you can't get this dress on Maggie Maryland's site at
[28:24] Speaker 5: the moment. So that's a really nice I'm sure there's
[28:27] Speaker 5: other sort of stores that do this as well. But
[28:30] Speaker 5: I love that I'm the only one with that dress.
[28:32] Speaker 5: Whoever else is wearing it. It's a unique dress for
[28:35] Speaker 5: the moment until it's released on Maggie Maryland's website.
[28:38] Speaker 1: So is it like a pre order situation or they
[28:40] Speaker 1: only had a certain amount in store or how does
[28:42] Speaker 1: that work?
[28:43] Speaker 3: They know they only have they have stock in their.
[28:45] Speaker 5: Store, but they're just doing an exclusive deal with this
[28:47] Speaker 5: Wildstone store, which is quite a nice yeah, because I
[28:51] Speaker 5: do find sometimes with events season, just say, sir, you
[28:55] Speaker 5: get used to the print, like we were saying, and
[28:57] Speaker 5: then everyone suddenly got the same dress and you're familiar
[28:59] Speaker 5: with that style or cut.
[29:01] Speaker 1: And then it gets like duoped all over and everyone's
[29:03] Speaker 1: got it.
[29:03] Speaker 5: So it's sort of nice knowing that I've invested in
[29:05] Speaker 5: a piece that not many people have right now and
[29:08] Speaker 5: it can kind of stretch and get that mileage through
[29:10] Speaker 5: this event season.
[29:11] Speaker 1: It's really special. Like I saw you in it, I
[29:13] Speaker 1: was like, damn, it's got a little heart cut out
[29:15] Speaker 1: at the back. Yeah, it's like a little cute sort
[29:18] Speaker 1: of yeah feature I've never seen before. It's very special.
[29:22] Speaker 5: Dark navy if you've done your color analysis. Like me,
[29:25] Speaker 5: I'm not meant to be wearing black, but I still
[29:27] Speaker 5: love like a little black dress.
[29:28] Speaker 3: Dark navy is just a nice substitute.
[29:30] Speaker 1: That's the answer to it. There you go, you're so organized.
[29:33] Speaker 1: I've not done my colors. I'm just like, I assume
[29:35] Speaker 1: I don't know brown. Okay, I so my bougie. I've
[29:40] Speaker 1: been looking for a relaxed maxi skirt for you know,
[29:44] Speaker 1: I'm short girl, so I don't wear that many maxi skirts.
[29:47] Speaker 1: But I found one on the Frankie shop from Netaporte
[29:51] Speaker 1: that I absolutely love. It's like the brief for me
[29:53] Speaker 1: was simple and flowy, but not boho. Okay, I don't
[29:57] Speaker 1: want it to steer boho. I wanted to still feel
[29:59] Speaker 1: modern and minimalist. So it's called the ason aees On
[30:03] Speaker 1: Jersey Maxi skirt. It comes in two shades, so a
[30:06] Speaker 1: cream and a tork. I love them both, but I'm
[30:09] Speaker 1: thinking maybe the cream for me because I do wear
[30:11] Speaker 1: a lot of that color. It's two hundred and sixty dollars.
[30:14] Speaker 1: It's like a slightly lower waist silhouette. An elastic yeah,
[30:19] Speaker 1: so just no structure, really flowy, ill of it, beautiful.
[30:22] Speaker 1: Dress it up. Dress it down fun.
[30:23] Speaker 3: Do you think you'll commit to it?
[30:25] Speaker 1: Probably not, I don't know. I love the Frankie Shop.
[30:30] Speaker 1: I've never regretted buying from there, So yeah, I'm feeling
[30:33] Speaker 1: very strongly inclined. If it's not that one, it's going
[30:35] Speaker 1: to be something like that.
[30:37] Speaker 5: Yeah, I love that. Yeah, my budget is playing within
[30:41] Speaker 5: that out of web space. So a suggestion for a
[30:44] Speaker 5: spring lightweight jacket that you can wear throughout spring.
[30:48] Speaker 3: It's thirty dollars.
[30:50] Speaker 5: It's called the cropped Ivory button down a outerwear piece
[30:55] Speaker 5: for spring. It's a lightweight button down jacket from Liness.
[30:59] Speaker 5: So the RFP was eighty nine but at the time
[31:02] Speaker 5: of filming thirty dollars.
[31:03] Speaker 3: So it's on sale now. It's ridiculous and it's just
[31:06] Speaker 3: that cropped in ivory. It'll probably go beautiful with your
[31:10] Speaker 3: it would.
[31:10] Speaker 1: I was just thinking that we got an outfit girl.
[31:12] Speaker 5: And if you don't want to invest too heavily in
[31:15] Speaker 5: this sort of outerwear piece for spring, you want to
[31:17] Speaker 5: actually invest more in the outfit that you're putting together,
[31:20] Speaker 5: it could be a really nice option.
[31:21] Speaker 3: And Ivory goes with everything. It's a nice white color.
[31:24] Speaker 1: You can wear that with jeans, Yeah, so many different
[31:26] Speaker 1: things I love that might just have to add that
[31:29] Speaker 1: to my cart. Okay, so we talked about tank tops earlier.
[31:32] Speaker 1: It's my belief that not all tank tops are created
[31:35] Speaker 1: equal there some are just better than others. And yes,
[31:37] Speaker 1: I've shopped from Cottonam before. I've got some really good cheapies.
[31:41] Speaker 1: But I did find a sort of mid like I'm
[31:43] Speaker 1: going to call it. I'm still calling it budget because
[31:45] Speaker 1: it's under fifty dollars. So it's from a brand called
[31:49] Speaker 1: bass Baysee, which was founded by a Melbourne fashion designer
[31:53] Speaker 1: and influencer that I follow called Efie CAATs. She does
[31:57] Speaker 1: really great wardrobe basics, elevated basics, and I absolutely love
[32:01] Speaker 1: this tank. It's the Cassier tank in white. It's forty
[32:05] Speaker 1: nine ninety five. It's perfect for what we were talking
[32:07] Speaker 1: about teaming with, like a statement in bellish midti skirt
[32:10] Speaker 1: or jeans. Yeah, I'm going to try.
[32:13] Speaker 3: This one from this brand before I have.
[32:15] Speaker 1: Yeah, I love the t's They're quite oversized, but yeah,
[32:18] Speaker 1: I haven't bought a tank before, so I'm definitely pulling
[32:21] Speaker 1: the trigger on this one. It comes in lots of
[32:23] Speaker 1: different colors, but I'm going to go for I think
[32:24] Speaker 1: I'm going to do.
[32:25] Speaker 5: This as well, because I get the ads all the
[32:27] Speaker 5: time for this brand and they do look really great.
[32:30] Speaker 3: I just haven't committed.
[32:31] Speaker 1: Yes, I have a NIT from there that I wear
[32:32] Speaker 1: a lot, and like, yeah, I have really good quality,
[32:35] Speaker 1: great danim as well. Nice Yeah, check it out as well.
