[0:01] SPEAKER_00: Drop Your Buffs Drop Your Buffs
[0:28] SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to Drop Your Buffs.
[0:30] SPEAKER_00: I'm Sean Ross.
[0:31] SPEAKER_00: I'm Evan Rosscats.
[0:33] SPEAKER_00: And we are here with a two-time Survivor player,
[0:38] SPEAKER_00: one-time Survivor winner,
[0:39] SPEAKER_00: co-signer of some shade at Sophie Clark.
[0:42] SPEAKER_00: We'll get into that.
[0:44] It's the winner of Survivor 49,
[0:47] our first new era winner to ever appear on Drop Your Buffs.
[0:51] SPEAKER_00: It is Savannah.
[0:53] SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Drop Your Buffs, Savannah.
[0:55] SPEAKER_03: You guys, I'm so excited to be here.
[0:57] SPEAKER_03: I'm not going to lie.
[0:58] It feels a little bit like I'm going into the lion's den,
[1:00] but in a good way.
[1:02] SPEAKER_03: Yes.
[1:03] SPEAKER_03: So don't eat me or anything.
[1:04] I have to say,
[1:05] I always appreciate when,
[1:07] because we can be a little biting,
[1:09] as you might know.
[1:11] but i gotta say there's something that always i can't speak on
[1:13] behalf of sean but
[1:14] for me i get a little defanged when the person that i'm coming
[1:18] for appreciates it
[1:19] and then all of a sudden i sort of like warm up really quickly
[1:22] because i'm a lot of
[1:24] bark but not as much bite in the end so i appreciate the fact
[1:27] that you seem to
[1:28] SPEAKER_02: recognize the humor in what we're attempting to do
[1:32] I mean here's my thing you guys are objectively funny like yeah
[1:37] do I get annoyed
[1:38] sometimes okay yeah sure but like you guys actually are funny
[1:42] so I can't be that
[1:43] mad about it now if you were just on shade and you were just
[1:45] total assholes the
[1:46] entire time and not actually making jokes that are making
[1:48] people laugh I'd probably
[1:49] be like all right fuck these two but like you guys are actually
[1:52] funny so I can't
[1:53] SPEAKER_03: really be that mad about it you know
[1:55] SPEAKER_02: Fair.
[1:56] SPEAKER_02: How have the past few months been for you?
[1:59] SPEAKER_02: You obviously filmed the show a while ago,
[2:01] and what an unusual position you were in where you do these two
[2:06] seasons back to
[2:07] SPEAKER_02: back,
[2:08] Obviously you know how they both went for you but you're seeing
[2:11] a lot of hype
[2:13] around season 50 that is very unique I mean it's obviously a
[2:17] returning player
[2:17] season but I think people were particularly amped because all
[2:20] the time that had
[2:21] gone on between the last all-star season which we do not count
[2:26] winners at war we
[2:27] SPEAKER_02: consider game changers the last all-star season so it's been some time
[2:31] SPEAKER_02: But you go and you do these two seasons pretty much back to back.
[2:34] SPEAKER_02: How much time did you have between?
[2:35] SPEAKER_02: Dude, nine days.
[2:37] SPEAKER_02: It was crazy.
[2:37] SPEAKER_02: Nine days.
[2:38] SPEAKER_02: I know.
[2:39] SPEAKER_02: So now that you kind of had time to process,
[2:42] SPEAKER_02: in a sense,
[2:43] SPEAKER_02: both of these seasons,
[2:44] SPEAKER_02: both of these experiences,
[2:46] SPEAKER_02: how do you reflect on the whole of your time on this show?
[2:49] SPEAKER_01: You know, first of all, I'm so glad I did it.
[2:52] SPEAKER_01: I've been a fan of Survivor since the show premiered.
[2:55] SPEAKER_01: I was seven years old.
[2:56] I was watching Survivor before I really understood what
[2:58] Survivor was really about.
[3:00] SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
[3:01] SPEAKER_01: And I applied for the first time when I was 17.
[3:03] So actually playing the game has been this dream that's been
[3:07] larger of life.
[3:08] that I had for so long and to actually be able to not only live
[3:13] out that dream but
[3:14] to live a once in a lifetime experience twice back to back like
[3:18] that was unreal you
[3:20] know it's so interesting because when you're playing survivor
[3:23] and even afterwards
[3:24] and you're watching everything air for me at least survivor was
[3:27] my entire life it
[3:28] was all-consuming and it was like that in the best ways at
[3:31] times you know survivors
[3:33] SPEAKER_01: fun
[3:33] but it was also really hard at times and I mean Sean you
[3:36] mentioned it at the
[3:37] beginning we will get on into the the co-signing shade and
[3:40] stuff but when people do
[3:41] come for you when it's anything survivor related are you gonna
[3:45] take it personally I
[3:47] mean you probably shouldn't but like am I absolutely you know
[3:50] it becomes your whole
[3:51] life and it is fun but I will say now after about a year I'm
[3:56] happy to be back to
[3:57] SPEAKER_01: like a normal human being who's just just existing in the world
[4:03] Is there any part of you because you get this very rare unique
[4:07] experience of
[4:07] playing back to back seasons you've been asked back so many
[4:11] people who play this
[4:12] game spend their whole lives waiting to be asked back it seems
[4:15] and then you get to
[4:16] play it like with nine days in between is there any part of you
[4:19] that wishes like
[4:20] god i wish that this all-star season was just like a year out
[4:24] or two years out
[4:25] Yes and I mean my biggest thing is if people on my cast from
[4:30] season 50 if they had
[4:31] watched season 49 and saw how I played I really feel like I
[4:35] would have gone further
[4:36] in the game I'm honestly like a great person to work with right
[4:39] I'm loyal to my
[4:40] people like I'm pretty honest as far as the game goes you know
[4:45] I'm lying to people
[4:46] sometimes but like everybody knew in my first season who my
[4:49] closest allies were
[4:50] they knew where I stood and I feel like that's someone really
[4:52] easy to not only work
[4:53] SPEAKER_01: with but also to play against at times
[4:56] SPEAKER_03: And then I think the biggest thing,
[4:57] SPEAKER_03: too,
[4:57] is you want to sit at the end with me because I'm really not
[5:00] that likable.
[5:01] There's always got to be someone at the end of the game who's
[5:04] more just socially
[5:06] SPEAKER_03: better than I am.
[5:07] So if they ever ask me back for a third time,
[5:09] that's my pitch to anyone who's out there.
[5:11] SPEAKER_03: I'm loyal, and I'm not the most likable person either.
[5:15] Well on that note were you surprised in getting the call
[5:18] because you know one of
[5:20] our disappointments I'll speak on behalf of Drop Your Buffs
[5:23] this was a very crowded
[5:25] SPEAKER_02: season for the new era and in particular the fact that for
[5:30] Season 48 and 49 five of these 24 slots where we had hundreds
[5:35] of viable returnees
[5:37] were given to those two seasons two of which were winners I'm
[5:41] just wondering were
[5:42] you at all surprised to see that you were asked back and Rizzo
[5:46] and three people
[5:47] SPEAKER_02: from 48
[5:49] Right so when I was asked back it was the day after our final
[5:53] tribal council so
[5:54] less than 24 hours after I found out I had won season 49 the
[5:58] host asked me to come
[5:59] SPEAKER_01: back for Survivor 50 and I thought I was being pranked
[6:04] At first I'm like there's no way because just a little context
[6:08] before I left to go
[6:09] film survivor 49 we did not know who was cast for survivor 50
[6:13] there had been rumors
[6:15] about who is being talked to and rumors about who might be
[6:17] playing the game but
[6:18] nothing had been confirmed but in those rumors you are hearing
[6:21] about iconic people
[6:23] like I mean like freaking sari and coach who's who are being
[6:26] discussed and debated
[6:27] SPEAKER_01: for example um and in that moment I was just like this is insane
[6:32] I need to do it because before I was a player I was a huge fan
[6:35] and how can you ever
[6:35] say no to being out there and then to learn the release of the
[6:40] cast because the
[6:43] rumors started coming out in between that break between 49 and
[6:47] 50 and so that's
[6:48] when you do start to hear about oh they have contacted all of
[6:51] these people from the
[6:52] SPEAKER_01: new era and some people from the old era
[6:56] It definitely was surprising especially from a fan perspective
[6:59] before I was a
[7:00] player that a lot of the people who were in what is it maybe
[7:03] like the 20s and 30s
[7:05] SPEAKER_01: who had been such a big part of the game they
[7:09] And I'm not gonna lie,
[7:14] knowing that I took a spot,
[7:15] there is a little bit of guilt there.
[7:17] SPEAKER_01: And it's not to say that I didn't deserve to be there,
[7:19] SPEAKER_01: but you do hear about big names who did deserve to be out there.
[7:23] I'll just name,
[7:24] for example,
[7:24] I'm a big fan of Carolyn,
[7:26] who was in,
[7:26] what was she?
[7:27] SPEAKER_01: Season 44?
[7:28] SPEAKER_01: She's New Era.
[7:30] SPEAKER_01: She's an example of another powerful woman.
[7:32] SPEAKER_01: I know she didn't win,
[7:33] but the host did want representation of winners in the game and
[7:38] everything.
[7:39] But an example of someone who I think would have made a fun
[7:42] representation in season 50.
[7:45] SPEAKER_01: I don't know that I necessarily took the spot of someone from,
[7:48] SPEAKER_01: you know,
[7:49] SPEAKER_01: the 30s or the 20s,
[7:50] SPEAKER_01: but I wish that we had been able to include more people for sure.
[7:54] And again,
[7:55] that's spoken as someone who's a fan of the game before I was a
[7:58] player.
[8:00] SPEAKER_00: Well, I want to ask you about this weird period of this nine days because
[8:03] Pre-gaming is such a big aspect of Returnee Seasons and we
[8:07] heard a lot about it
[8:08] with Survivor 50 but you're in this weird position where nobody
[8:12] knows you you have
[8:13] no contact with these people but you've just won and so were
[8:18] you able to do any
[8:19] pre-gaming or how did you see the pre-gaming affect the game in
[8:24] Survivor 50?
[8:25] Dude I was so naive and that is my biggest regret like I wish I
[8:29] would have been in
[8:29] those DMs and I wish because I was a huge fan of people like
[8:32] Rick Devins I talked
[8:33] about Rick Devins in my survivor application video like we have
[8:37] similar Georgia
[8:38] ties his old agent when he used to work in news was my old
[8:42] agent when I used to
[8:42] work in news so I had like that you know kind of connection
[8:45] there I wish I would
[8:47] have but really the only person I talked to was Rizzo and
[8:50] that's just because we
[8:51] SPEAKER_01: shared that season together
[8:53] So coming in,
[8:54] did you find that there had been people,
[8:56] like was that a barrier for you?
[8:59] SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I mean, in those first days?
[9:00] SPEAKER_01: In any returning season,
[9:02] SPEAKER_01: and that's not just for 50,
[9:03] SPEAKER_01: that goes back to like the early like teens and 20s returning seasons.
[9:08] SPEAKER_01: Like people always are maybe not hopping on Zoom,
[9:11] SPEAKER_01: maybe not having a phone call,
[9:14] but they are making those connections that are going to serve
[9:16] them better.
[9:17] And like my biggest piece of advice to any player who ever
[9:20] plays a returning season,
[9:21] like
[9:22] Get on the social media production like tells you not to do
[9:26] that but if everybody
[9:28] else is doing it then like why wouldn't you you know well
[9:31] that's my question I kind
[9:32] of feel like because it is such an inevitability and you say
[9:35] from the teens but
[9:36] SPEAKER_02: this is from the
[9:37] I mean this completely shifted the course of the very first
[9:41] all-star season because
[9:42] of pre-gaming it is one of those kind of like if you can't beat
[9:45] them join them I
[9:46] guess my question to you would be if everyone's doing it do you
[9:50] think it would be a
[9:51] SPEAKER_02: service to the audience
[9:51] SPEAKER_02: Drop Your Buff
[10:19] SPEAKER_02: Drop Your Buffs
[10:43] I think the tricky part though is is that people are connecting
[10:47] who didn't
[10:47] necessarily play together you know what I mean people might
[10:50] have mutual friends who
[10:51] they meet I don't know through like an online game or something
[10:54] like that and they
[10:56] SPEAKER_01: may have never played survivor together but
[10:58] SPEAKER_01: But because of the things that they're doing outside in their real lives,
[11:01] SPEAKER_01: they're making these connections that are going to show up in the game.
[11:04] SPEAKER_01: I feel like production,
[11:05] SPEAKER_01: if they truly wanted to tell a full story,
[11:08] SPEAKER_01: they would somehow figure out a way to bring in that narrative.
[11:14] I just don't know that it's always possible with all the time
[11:17] that they do or don't
[11:18] SPEAKER_01: have in the show.
[11:19] SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
[11:20] SPEAKER_01: It's tough.
[11:21] I do think it's worth like distinguishing like there are alumni
[11:25] like Christian for
[11:26] instance who are very like steeped in the survivor verse and
[11:30] then you have alumni
[11:31] like Angelina for instance less so and so to me it's like I
[11:35] think there could be
[11:35] SPEAKER_02: more cognizance
[11:37] Around like sort of either stacking the deck one way or the
[11:41] other and so you have
[11:43] people that are not deeply connected or a cast full of people
[11:47] who are connected I
[11:49] SPEAKER_02: think that might sort of help because in retrospect now
[11:52] um looking at 50 holistically it does feel like a lot of these
[11:56] off the show
[11:57] relationships really factored into particularly the end game um
[12:01] in ways that I
[12:02] found dissatisfying and I feel like it put someone like you at
[12:05] a disadvantage in
[12:06] terms of finding your footing I think it definitely did and I
[12:10] think also going
[12:11] SPEAKER_01: forward knowing what I know now
[12:14] SPEAKER_01: When I'm watching returnee seasons,
[12:16] SPEAKER_01: I feel like you have to take everything with a grain of salt.
[12:19] Someone who might do really well in a returnee season,
[12:22] maybe they do have an incredible game.
[12:24] I'm not hating on anyone's game,
[12:25] but also maybe they do have connections that were established.
[12:29] It almost makes me a little bit more endeared towards some of
[12:32] the original first seasons.
[12:35] SPEAKER_01: Does that make sense?
[12:36] Yeah yeah totally so you come on to Survivor 50 having just won
[12:41] 49 and you're
[12:42] thrown onto this tribe you say like you're a lifelong Survivor
[12:45] fan and you're
[12:46] thrown on this tribe with Sari and Ozzy and Christian and Jenna
[12:51] Lewis for God's
[12:52] sake so Tiffany talked about imposter syndrome in the finale
[12:56] did you have imposter
[12:57] SPEAKER_00: syndrome in those first days?
[12:59] Dude big time and especially because going into season 50 I had
[13:03] heard rumors that
[13:05] me and Rizzo because we were late additions that we had taken
[13:07] people's spots you
[13:08] know and the rumor mill has it that I took Marianne's spot and
[13:12] you know I will be
[13:13] completely honest like I think Marianne probably would have
[13:15] done better on that
[13:16] SPEAKER_01: starting tribe than I did you know so
[13:18] There is a little bit of guilt there and there is a lot of
[13:22] imposter syndrome right
[13:23] because when you're playing survivor you're playing the game
[13:25] and everything a big
[13:27] part of your survivor experience is sure out there in Fiji but
[13:30] a larger part of
[13:31] SPEAKER_01: your experience in my opinion
[13:33] SPEAKER_01: I think I was really hard on myself coming out of 49
[13:54] In terms of my social game which gets a lot of shit I don't
[13:57] think it's actually a
[13:58] bad social game I actually think it's quite a good social game
[14:01] And I wish that I
[14:03] had the confidence now that I didn't have going into 50 But I
[14:08] mean you're around
[14:08] these legends like of course I'm not gonna walk in and think
[14:11] I'm hot shit when I'm
[14:12] like literally on the same log as Sari and Ozzy and like you
[14:16] know these icons Yeah
[14:19] One of my disappointments with season 50 was an expectation
[14:24] that this was really
[14:26] SPEAKER_02: going to be an epic season of Survivor.
[14:28] And I think that we got reasons to believe that would be the
[14:31] case even when we
[14:32] found out that the cast was going to be ballooned to 24 tribe
[14:35] members for the very
[14:36] SPEAKER_02: first time.
[14:37] but now looking back on it you know we did get the return of
[14:41] the live reunion air
[14:42] SPEAKER_02: quotes live reunion we did get the return of the family visit but kind of
[14:46] unsatisfying we did get the return of the car reward but kind
[14:50] of unsatisfying I'm
[14:52] wondering if you as the Survivor fan had any expectation that
[14:57] the season itself
[14:58] might be more of a retrospective view of the epic scope of this
[15:04] show and the impact
[15:05] SPEAKER_02: that it's had for 25 years
[15:07] Was there any part of you that was like kind of expecting that
[15:09] maybe the challenges
[15:10] were going to be a little bit more epic or that there would
[15:12] have been other things
[15:13] about this season that sort of upped the stakes in a way
[15:17] besides you know the
[15:17] appearance of like Zach Brown yeah no that is such a stop the
[15:21] Zach Brown shade is
[15:22] crazy no that's so funny I will say also I love your questions
[15:28] you ask great
[15:28] SPEAKER_03: questions
[15:31] I mean it's hard to say because to be honest when I was out
[15:34] there playing 50 I was
[15:36] kind of just an autopilot you know what I mean like I wasn't
[15:39] really thinking about
[15:41] I was just trying to operate and like for lack of a better word
[15:44] like survive and
[15:45] get through the experience and get through to the end or as far
[15:49] as I could possibly
[15:50] go and so when you talk about like the different elements that
[15:54] were added or not
[15:55] added to the game like I really wasn't even thinking about a
[15:57] potential family visit
[15:59] or a car reward or I mean I was hoping for a live finale but
[16:02] when I was out there
[16:03] you know you're not really thinking about that you're just so
[16:05] in the moment
[16:06] SPEAKER_01: When I got back to real life,
[16:09] SPEAKER_01: okay,
[16:09] SPEAKER_01: so this was maybe July last year,
[16:11] SPEAKER_01: almost a year ago,
[16:12] SPEAKER_01: after the game had ended,
[16:13] SPEAKER_01: I was on pre-jury,
[16:14] SPEAKER_01: so I didn't know exactly what had happened from the merge forward.
[16:18] SPEAKER_01: Rizzo was one of the first people who I talked to, right?
[16:21] SPEAKER_03: He's giving me all the tea, like, hey, this happened, we saw Mr.
[16:24] SPEAKER_03: Beast out there, we had X, Y, and Z happen.
[16:28] And so we're learning about all of the like almost like weird
[16:32] things that had
[16:32] happened because they sound weird right if you're hearing about
[16:35] it for the first
[16:36] time and you're hearing about it from like and I love Rizzo but
[16:40] I had really only
[16:41] known him for a month at this point I'm like is he fucking with
[16:43] me you know like
[16:43] SPEAKER_03: that's just so bizarre
[16:46] And so I feel like I didn't really have the opportunity to
[16:49] really form these
[16:50] expectations about what 50 would be because I was so focused on
[16:55] my own personal
[16:56] SPEAKER_01: experience and living it in real time.
[16:58] SPEAKER_01: Now that said,
[16:59] SPEAKER_01: as someone who can take a step back and think about it as a fan,
[17:03] SPEAKER_01: I think when you have a big monumental season,
[17:06] SPEAKER_01: it's going to be so hard to meet expectations just because
[17:10] I mean I don't know if you guys are like me but like I was
[17:13] watching Survivor like
[17:14] during the glory days you know like I remember watching like
[17:17] Survivor in the teens
[17:19] that's in my opinion when it was the best I was watching that
[17:21] in real time and it's
[17:23] almost like you know when you're a kid and you're you're going
[17:25] to Christmas morning
[17:26] and you're seven years old like that's like the best memory
[17:28] that you'll ever have
[17:29] right it's almost like this nostalgia that's associated with
[17:31] Survivor I don't know
[17:33] SPEAKER_03: that we'll ever truly be able to get that same feeling back with Survivor
[17:40] SPEAKER_01: And that's not to say that the way that they're doing it is bad,
[17:43] but it is maybe like an indication of like that nostalgia that
[17:47] we have for this
[17:47] SPEAKER_01: show that just,
[17:48] SPEAKER_01: it is a different show.
[17:50] SPEAKER_01: It's a different game.
[17:51] It's so different than I think when it was played during the
[17:54] teens and the single
[17:56] SPEAKER_01: digit seasons,
[17:56] SPEAKER_01: there's more luck involved,
[17:58] SPEAKER_01: there's more twists and turns involved.
[18:00] and I think honestly like we can either like choose to get on
[18:02] board with it or we
[18:03] can say I'm over this show like fuck it I don't want to watch
[18:06] it anymore you know
[18:07] what I mean um and so did I even answer your question or did I
[18:11] just ramble is that
[18:11] annoying no no I'm so sorry I just like went on a little like
[18:17] soliloquy there I
[18:18] SPEAKER_03: honestly forget what you first asked
[18:20] SPEAKER_00: No,
[18:21] SPEAKER_00: but I want to ask about,
[18:22] you're talking about taking a step back and sort of watching
[18:25] the season as it
[18:26] SPEAKER_00: unfolds,
[18:26] SPEAKER_00: and this is so interesting to me because particularly with 49,
[18:30] SPEAKER_00: so you get back,
[18:32] SPEAKER_00: now you've played two seasons,
[18:34] SPEAKER_00: 49 starts to air,
[18:36] SPEAKER_00: and you're getting a very strong winner edit in 49,
[18:40] SPEAKER_00: like it's a very,
[18:41] SPEAKER_00: very strong edit.
[18:43] SPEAKER_00: And yet,
[18:44] SPEAKER_00: of course,
[18:44] SPEAKER_00: there's going to be Haters Online,
[18:47] SPEAKER_00: us included,
[18:48] SPEAKER_00: like I'll put my hand up,
[18:49] SPEAKER_00: right?
[18:50] And then there's sort of like I want you to talk about the
[18:55] feeling of being online
[18:57] as a survivor player watching the criticism come in because
[19:01] you're in this position
[19:02] where you're like I won like I've got a million dollars hitting
[19:05] my bank at some
[19:06] point soon and yet I am feeling some type of way about the fans
[19:12] watching and
[19:12] reacting to this show That's such a good question and I'll give
[19:17] you a little
[19:17] SPEAKER_03: context so
[19:19] Obviously before I went out there I was working in the news
[19:21] industry and when
[19:23] you're on air like that you guys probably get it all the time
[19:26] not because you're
[19:26] bad people or you're bad at your jobs but because people like
[19:28] love to shit on
[19:29] anyone who puts themselves out there in the public whatsoever
[19:32] but I thought I was
[19:33] SPEAKER_03: used to getting you know that they hate DMs or they hate mail or whatever
[19:38] SPEAKER_03: It would happen maybe once a week.
[19:42] And it's never truly that deep when you're getting the emails
[19:45] from 84-year-old
[19:47] SPEAKER_03: Betsy who lives in a small town in bumfuck nowhere.
[19:50] SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
[19:52] SPEAKER_03: And then when you play Survivor,
[19:54] you are exposed to people literally across the world and
[20:00] everybody has an opinion.
[20:02] And you know at first like I think it is easy to take things
[20:04] with a grain of salt
[20:05] maybe you know as you're I used to be a huge redditor so I
[20:07] would be on the reddit
[20:08] like before I was you know a player like I would be one of the
[20:11] people who was like
[20:12] in those chats you know and you start to see your name come up
[20:16] more and more and
[20:17] people I think maybe the hard part is maybe people not
[20:21] understanding and people
[20:22] assuming the worst in who you are and your motives and other
[20:27] people's reactions to
[20:28] SPEAKER_01: you you know not everything that you see on tv is
[20:32] I mean it's you might see one thing on TV and in real life it
[20:37] feels a totally
[20:38] different way and I say this as someone who is like I'm cool
[20:42] with most of the
[20:43] people from both casts okay um and to see all of this talk and
[20:48] this discourse
[20:49] online especially about how I'm a mean girl and a mean you know
[20:52] just mean girl um
[20:54] SPEAKER_01: I didn't like that because I don't think I am a mean person.
[20:56] I think I'm a person who might be a little abrasive at times
[21:00] when they're starving.
[21:01] SPEAKER_01: I think I'm someone that might,
[21:02] SPEAKER_01: you know,
[21:02] SPEAKER_01: do whatever it takes to win a game,
[21:04] SPEAKER_01: including,
[21:04] SPEAKER_01: yeah,
[21:05] SPEAKER_01: steal your idol.
[21:05] SPEAKER_01: I don't really care.
[21:06] SPEAKER_01: Like if it's a million dollars on the line,
[21:07] SPEAKER_01: like I don't really care if that's,
[21:09] SPEAKER_01: you know,
[21:09] SPEAKER_01: the most becoming behavior or not,
[21:11] SPEAKER_01: you know,
[21:12] SPEAKER_01: like we all signed up to play a game and to have people
[21:15] Like I'm not even kidding dude it's like every single day
[21:17] multiple times a day not
[21:19] just people talking about me online but like coming into my DMs
[21:22] or into my comments
[21:23] and telling me about how awful of a person I am like it can
[21:26] start to weigh on you I
[21:28] don't care who you are but like it can be so heavy sometimes
[21:30] and I feel like
[21:31] there's no escape and then I'll say this about a couple weeks
[21:34] after I got kicked
[21:35] SPEAKER_01: off of season 50
[21:37] It really stopped people forget they move on they find someone
[21:40] new to hate so it's
[21:42] been a really honestly a nice past couple of months and
[21:44] everything even knowing
[21:47] that I did win and that I had money on the way like those
[21:51] people's words can just
[21:52] be so like insane sometimes and it was everything from
[21:58] Savannah's mean to like
[22:00] SPEAKER_03: Drop Your Buffs
[22:10] Yeah well I do want to ask you about sort of a recent statement
[22:13] that Aubrey made
[22:14] that I thought was really powerful and just both the sentiment
[22:18] but also how she
[22:19] articulated it she said quote people love me people hate my
[22:22] face I'm a flop it's
[22:24] fine you can call me whatever you want at this point your 82
[22:27] year old mom can leave
[22:27] a voice memo pissed about me I appreciate the love I appreciate
[22:32] the not love if
[22:33] SPEAKER_02: you're going to take the good you've got to take the bad um
[22:37] Which I think is so true but one thing that I observe for many
[22:41] new era players is
[22:43] an inability to log off and I have to tell you as someone who
[22:47] gets shit on online a
[22:49] lot and I can take it I also don't look at it anymore and I
[22:53] know you're mentioning
[22:54] sometimes it comes in your DMS and you're forced to look at it
[22:57] but like I think I
[22:59] SPEAKER_02: don't see a lot of people
[23:01] in positions like this that recognize that it is somewhat of a
[23:05] choice to choose to
[23:07] participate in the discourse and sometimes I feel like people
[23:11] and this extends just
[23:12] beyond Survivor alumni but they kind of like existing in this
[23:15] place of aggrieved
[23:17] because it gives them a purpose and a sense of feeling like
[23:20] they have been done
[23:21] wrong to as opposed to just recognizing the nature of the beast
[23:25] and so it's
[23:26] SPEAKER_02: interesting to hear you talk about that shift in the fandom that happened
[23:31] in losing out so quickly at 50 and how people end up kind of
[23:35] being nicer when
[23:36] you're a loser versus meaner when you're a winner but my
[23:40] takeaway as you were
[23:41] saying that was like wow that's such a healthy perspective and
[23:45] also there's
[23:46] something kind of congruent about your experience of being a
[23:50] winner and a loser and
[23:52] I'm wondering if you feel like having both of those kind of
[23:55] gave you an equilibrium
[23:56] SPEAKER_02: in your holistic experience on the show
[23:59] I absolutely think so 100% I feel like I can empathize and
[24:02] relate to people who
[24:03] have done so well in this game but also like I know what it's
[24:06] like to be a loser
[24:06] and I know what it's like to be a big loser too okay I got 23rd
[24:09] place out of 24
[24:10] people like that's not really the thing that you're putting
[24:13] there on your resume
[24:14] you're the only person to ever play American Survivor and get
[24:16] 23rd place I'm kind
[24:18] SPEAKER_03: of iconic in that way totally
[24:20] Let me say this because Aubrey I love her she was one of the
[24:25] people who I talked to
[24:26] during my season 49 experience there were a few different women
[24:30] who I reached out
[24:30] to when I was having a really hard time because I mean honestly
[24:33] dude like what you
[24:35] SPEAKER_03: said like
[24:36] It can be almost like a drug to read about yourself and I know
[24:39] that sounds so
[24:40] self-centered I'm just being very real with you like you see
[24:43] you might see like one
[24:44] good comment and you're like okay like I'm gonna keep reading
[24:46] and then you start to
[24:46] see the bad ones and you're like oh my god wait but I can't
[24:49] stop looking because
[24:50] I'm already in so deep Aubrey was one of the people who I had
[24:54] so many conversations
[24:55] SPEAKER_03: with during during 49 and also part of 52
[24:59] who was someone else who is a woman who isn't always a soft
[25:02] woman she can also seem
[25:04] a little abrasive at times and I say that with like all the
[25:06] love in my heart
[25:06] because like I we're both Scorpios like I get it you know we
[25:10] love abrasive women we
[25:12] do we really do um and having other women especially who have
[25:16] gone through this
[25:17] before and who have had similar edits and personas and being
[25:20] able to talk to them
[25:21] SPEAKER_03: and say hey like
[25:22] SPEAKER_03: How the fuck do I get through this?
[25:23] SPEAKER_03: Like, what have you done?
[25:25] SPEAKER_03: Like, am I going crazy here?
[25:27] SPEAKER_03: And just having someone say, hey, I see you.
[25:30] SPEAKER_03: What you're going through is normal.
[25:32] Don't read the comments you need to log off because seriously
[25:35] we all need reminders
[25:36] sometimes um it it was so powerful and I mean like Aubrey was
[25:40] one of those women um
[25:41] I talked to Kenzie a lot the winner of 46 because she she got
[25:45] some shit during her
[25:45] season two and she was like a huge resource for me and then
[25:48] also Dee from 45 and 50
[25:50] um she was another person who like was just so empathetic and
[25:54] and you know they get
[25:55] SPEAKER_03: the mean girl
[25:58] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, so you're talking about all of these great former
[26:03] SPEAKER_00: Players that you could reach out to, winners.
[26:06] SPEAKER_00: Now there's another winner tied up with you, and that is Sophie Clark.
[26:10] SPEAKER_00: Because on,
[26:11] SPEAKER_00: I think it was the second or third recap we did of Survivor 49,
[26:16] SPEAKER_00: I Was Away,
[26:17] SPEAKER_00: Evan brought in Sophie Clark.
[26:19] SPEAKER_00: And she had some things to say.
[26:20] She had some feelings on the direction of the new era,
[26:24] what was going on with 49.
[26:26] SPEAKER_00: And then we get a comment on the post from Torch underscore Snuffer.
[26:30] That says,
[26:31] why pick a better ex-player to do the recap if they're just
[26:34] going to be negative?
[26:35] SPEAKER_00: Don't watch.
[26:37] SPEAKER_00: Now, the identity of Torch Snuffer, that's a saga.
[26:40] SPEAKER_00: If anybody wants to go back to that, we can go back to that.
[26:43] SPEAKER_00: But likes are public, right?
[26:45] SPEAKER_00: And so Sophie and yourself liked the comment,
[26:48] SPEAKER_00: which then we,
[26:49] SPEAKER_00: of course,
[26:50] SPEAKER_00: put on the Jumbotron,
[26:51] SPEAKER_00: on Drop Your Buffs.
[26:52] SPEAKER_00: And so that becomes public.
[26:55] SPEAKER_00: I'm curious whether you want to comment at all on Sophie's recap.
[27:00] SPEAKER_00: But also, did you talk to Sophie after?
[27:03] SPEAKER_03: You know, I haven't actually talked with Sophie.
[27:06] SPEAKER_03: And I think it's because I don't have anything against Sophie.
[27:09] SPEAKER_03: I don't think she has anything against me either.
[27:11] SPEAKER_03: Maybe she does.
[27:11] SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
[27:13] SPEAKER_03: But when I saw that comment in real time, I'm like, oh my gosh.
[27:17] How dare another survivor player come for our season she hasn't
[27:22] even seen all of it
[27:23] yet and I think also as someone who won the season I feel a
[27:26] sense maybe like a
[27:27] larger part of the season because I know I'm going to be a big
[27:29] part of it and so
[27:31] SPEAKER_03: was I taking that personally like her recap yeah
[27:34] SPEAKER_03: Should I have not taken it personally?
[27:36] SPEAKER_03: No,
[27:36] I shouldn't have But I think that just goes to show I was very
[27:39] green I didn't
[27:41] really know what I was getting into And I think now that I've
[27:44] played the game twice
[27:45] And I'm hoping to be on recap episodes As season 51 comes up I
[27:49] want to feel the
[27:50] SPEAKER_03: freedom to talk my shit
[27:52] Sophie Clark is an incredible player and it almost hurts more
[28:00] to hear it from
[28:00] someone who is actually very good at the game versus maybe
[28:04] someone who was a 23rd
[28:05] SPEAKER_03: boot or something like that.
[28:10] I haven't talked to her I think it's because every time I've
[28:12] been in the same area
[28:13] with her it's been for a big event like I saw her at the
[28:16] Survivor 50 live show or
[28:18] whatever and it was just like there was so much going on you
[28:21] can't really talk to
[28:22] like anyone and have a meaningful conversation but I'd love to
[28:26] get to know her and
[28:27] SPEAKER_03: I have nothing nothing to say bad about her at all
[28:30] So on that front,
[28:32] were you listening to the Drop Your Buffs recaps of Season 49?
[28:36] SPEAKER_02: Because I don't know if you're a regular listener of ours,
[28:39] SPEAKER_02: but I pretty much memory hole everything in life,
[28:43] SPEAKER_02: but especially when it comes to New Era Survivor.
[28:46] SPEAKER_02: But if you were listening,
[28:48] I imagine it would have been painful because I don't remember
[28:51] enjoying Season 49
[28:53] SPEAKER_02: particularly.
[28:54] That's okay now that you know me and now that we're on good
[28:56] terms maybe you'll like
[28:57] it more I will say after I would say probably around like the
[29:02] second or third
[29:02] episode of our season I really stopped listening to all
[29:05] podcasts except for like
[29:07] there was one podcast that I would listen to that I've just
[29:10] like listened to since
[29:11] SPEAKER_03: forever and
[29:12] Pretty nice to us so I'm like alright like I'm not gonna get my
[29:15] feelings hurt that
[29:16] much listening to it but it really goes again to like cutting
[29:19] out some of the noise
[29:20] and like people are entitled to their own opinions people can
[29:23] hate on me that's
[29:24] okay but maybe it's not best for my my mental state to be
[29:28] listening to all of that
[29:29] SPEAKER_03: you know what I mean
[29:30] yeah yeah I think that like just to be clear here though I am
[29:36] not a fan of new era
[29:37] survivor um I have not liked a single season of the new era but
[29:42] I will state that I
[29:45] think in retrospect because you're talking about being
[29:47] reflective I can be
[29:48] reflective here as well first of all I think we overall have
[29:51] tried to soften a bit
[29:53] SPEAKER_02: um in our approach Sean would you agree
[29:55] SPEAKER_02: Drop Your Buffs Drop Your Buffs Drop Your Buffs Drop Your Buffs
[30:18] Where I understand more sometimes and I think there's obviously
[30:21] nuance here I think
[30:22] sometimes those people like myself who are aggrieved are
[30:26] aggrieved with like the
[30:27] way that the show is cut together now and edited as opposed to
[30:31] the player so I
[30:32] think like in looking at Aubrey's win for instance I'm among
[30:35] the people who like I
[30:36] just think that like we were spoon-fed this winner's edit and I
[30:40] don't think it was
[30:41] SPEAKER_02: a particularly satisfying win
[30:43] SPEAKER_02: But I also don't blame Aubrey for that.
[30:46] I just think that some wins land better from a television
[30:51] narrative perspective in
[30:52] SPEAKER_02: terms of the story that was told.
[30:55] It's why I think we love seeing...
[30:59] Who's a winner that we love the overall story from?
[31:02] SPEAKER_02: Well,
[31:03] I think Sophie Clark is a great example because that's somebody
[31:06] who comes from
[31:07] SPEAKER_00: behind and has this fulsome story.
[31:11] Yes but I yeah but so I think that that's something that I
[31:15] think is unfortunate in
[31:16] terms of some of the fans I don't feel are able to delineate
[31:20] their disdain for how
[31:23] someone was how their story was shown as opposed to the person
[31:27] and I will say
[31:28] grievances with season 49 aside I don't and I can say this now
[31:32] maybe you're like
[31:33] SPEAKER_02: roll a tape and
[31:35] Sound Different um but I feel like any uh a lot of my
[31:38] frustration was more just in
[31:40] terms of the story of season 49 as opposed to like you the
[31:43] human being let me ask
[31:45] you then because I'm a little bit curious um what if there's a
[31:48] winner who doesn't
[31:49] necessarily have that satisfying of a winning game and I'm not
[31:52] calling out anyone
[31:53] I'm not talking about me I'm not talking about Aubrey or anyone
[31:55] in particular but
[31:56] SPEAKER_03: how would what's the best way to handle that
[31:58] that's a great question i think that like and i can speak on my
[32:01] own behalf sean you
[32:02] can have your answer i don't really care about the winner of
[32:05] the season i care
[32:07] about like the narrative storytelling and i think the reason
[32:10] why micronesia is
[32:13] remembered the way it is is because you have this narrative and
[32:16] by the way it comes
[32:17] SPEAKER_02: in at like
[32:18] SPEAKER_02: Drop Your Buffs
[32:33] So to me or even like right now like I'm watching Survivor
[32:36] Australia season four
[32:38] shout out it's fucking incredible but I'm just I'm loving these
[32:43] like contingencies
[32:44] of like watching David and Lou convince it's a seven to two
[32:48] vote and they are on
[32:50] the two and they're able to spin it I love shit like that
[32:53] that's what I remember
[32:55] As far as like satisfying winners like was um Amber Berkich a
[32:59] satisfying winner no
[33:01] is it a great season of television yes um that's kind of where
[33:05] I come down on it
[33:06] Sean okay that makes sense yeah I think I feel similarly I've
[33:09] I've always said that
[33:11] I don't love the finale is probably my least favorite episode
[33:15] of a survivor season
[33:16] SPEAKER_00: and
[33:16] SPEAKER_00: Because I don't really care how it ends.
[33:19] SPEAKER_00: I care about the journey of getting there.
[33:21] SPEAKER_00: And I think it's in the relationships,
[33:24] SPEAKER_00: the micro moments,
[33:25] SPEAKER_00: the twists and turns,
[33:26] like the really fun votes that you can get that you can really
[33:31] feel satisfied.
[33:31] Like Fully Satisfied By Survivor Season And Yes The Winner
[33:36] Could Play A Role In
[33:38] That But Almost Like If The Right Person For You Doesn't Win
[33:42] That Almost Makes It
[33:42] Even Then It Becomes Lore Right If Like Like You Can Rehash The
[33:46] Season Over And
[33:47] Over And Like What Went Wrong So I Do Feel Like I Look At It
[33:51] More Holistically And
[33:52] SPEAKER_00: I Think The Problem With
[33:54] more like most of the new era is really in the storytelling
[33:58] right like if the
[33:59] storytelling has moved from I think being whole like holistic
[34:04] over the course of a
[34:05] season to episodic so that people can jump in and that that has
[34:09] been going on for a
[34:09] very long time that's that goes back way before the new era but
[34:13] I'm seeing it more
[34:14] and more here where it's things like you look at for example
[34:18] Survivor 41 and
[34:19] SPEAKER_00: Erica's win right like that is such a great example of
[34:22] SPEAKER_00: We didn't see this person until the merge, right?
[34:25] SPEAKER_00: And that's a problem.
[34:26] SPEAKER_00: I think that's a real problem with storytelling.
[34:29] SPEAKER_01: That's a really interesting take.
[34:31] Sorry,
[34:31] I love how you brought it up into almost like episodes versus
[34:35] like the whole season.
[34:36] SPEAKER_03: Sorry,
[34:36] SPEAKER_03: I've never really heard about that or thought about that,
[34:39] SPEAKER_03: but I think that's really interesting and really insightful.
[34:41] And I will say too like if I were to do the to tweak season 49
[34:47] in your favor it's
[34:48] like I needed a counter attack on the three of you that felt
[34:52] like it held weight
[34:54] because it's not denying the fact that you you did play a great
[34:58] game okay let's
[34:59] SPEAKER_02: just state that outright you are a deserving winner like that's not the
[35:02] conversation but from a narrative storytelling perspective I
[35:06] would have loved if
[35:07] SPEAKER_02: you had faced a huge adversary like
[35:10] Ika Jonathan that you were able to take out that would have
[35:13] been like yes our girl
[35:15] finally got that big punch in whereas it felt like you were a
[35:19] superior player
[35:20] against inferior castaways and that is shade right that is
[35:25] shade um and so that
[35:27] just made it such where again it's like I would have loved you
[35:30] to have people for
[35:32] SPEAKER_02: you to really battle against which is why
[35:35] SPEAKER_02: When 50 was working,
[35:37] SPEAKER_02: which we would say is especially in that first half of season 50,
[35:41] SPEAKER_02: it was exciting to watch and say,
[35:43] SPEAKER_02: okay,
[35:44] there are pockets of small groupings that are happening and
[35:47] larger voting blocks,
[35:48] SPEAKER_02: but it really feels like there are viable people playing the game here.
[35:52] SPEAKER_02: And I think I just miss,
[35:53] SPEAKER_02: and I've yet to see this with New Era Survivor,
[35:56] SPEAKER_02: where it's like I just don't ever feel like there are
[35:59] These big contingencies of sides that I really feel like it
[36:03] could swing either way.
[36:04] SPEAKER_02: I need the Terry Dietz to the Auris.
[36:08] SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
[36:09] SPEAKER_03: That's so interesting.
[36:11] SPEAKER_03: First of all, thank you for the very sweet compliment.
[36:14] SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
[36:15] SPEAKER_03: I know you're not just saying that to be nice, but thank you.
[36:18] SPEAKER_03: I appreciate it.
[36:19] SPEAKER_03: And I wonder too...
[36:22] If you didn't know that I was coming back for 50 and that I had
[36:26] won 49 maybe you
[36:28] were spoiled maybe you weren't but a lot of people were spoiled
[36:30] as my season was
[36:31] starting I wonder if the game would have been more satisfying
[36:34] then because it truly
[36:36] SPEAKER_03: did feel like
[36:37] SPEAKER_03: Drop Your Buffs
[37:06] SPEAKER_01: I don't mean from a gameplay perspective.
[37:21] I'm talking about from like a character perspective were you
[37:24] just craving some more
[37:26] people on 49 that felt like they were like that just from a
[37:29] narrative that they're
[37:30] like oh these are interesting people that are trying to take me
[37:34] out of the game
[37:35] again I see I see what you're saying yeah um you know that's
[37:39] that's actually so
[37:39] interesting and it's something that I probably haven't thought
[37:42] about because I was
[37:44] the main character and selfishly like I I like to be the main
[37:47] character you know
[37:48] SPEAKER_03: what I mean um
[37:50] SPEAKER_01: But I see what you're saying and I think there is a lot of merit to maybe
[37:54] showcasing more sides and more aspects of the people who
[37:58] absolutely were on the
[37:59] SPEAKER_03: other side.
[38:00] SPEAKER_03: If it makes our season seem stronger, I'm all for it.
[38:03] SPEAKER_03: Let's bring it on.
[38:04] SPEAKER_03: Let's do it.
[38:05] SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
[38:06] SPEAKER_03: And I don't know.
[38:08] SPEAKER_03: I appreciate that.
[38:09] SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's interesting.
[38:11] We're talking about the winner edits and you had this really
[38:15] strong winner edit and
[38:16] then you compare it to the winner edit that Aubrey got in
[38:19] season 50 and like Evan
[38:21] mentioned earlier it was spoon fed to us but I would say it was
[38:24] only really spoon
[38:25] fed to us in the last 4 or 5 episodes I don't agree with that I
[38:30] kept bringing up in
[38:31] the recaps how we would check in on Aubrey in the early parts
[38:34] of the season we
[38:35] SPEAKER_00: would check in on Aubrey
[38:36] but it wasn't until the end that it was like Aubrey's the only
[38:39] one talking about
[38:40] winning the game she's the only one talking about going to the
[38:42] end but we got the
[38:43] co-wrong like redemption narrative earlier on maybe maybe a
[38:49] little bit like welcome
[38:51] SPEAKER_00: Savannah to Drop Your Buffs no I love it
[38:54] SPEAKER_00: But to me,
[38:55] SPEAKER_00: I felt like until that last handful of episodes,
[39:00] SPEAKER_00: Aubrey had a weak winner edit,
[39:02] SPEAKER_00: whereas you throughout 49 had a strong winner edit.
[39:06] I wonder if you like for your I'm curious for your perspective
[39:10] on comparing the two edits.
[39:14] SPEAKER_03: It's so interesting because Aubrey's edit
[39:17] I mean neither of both of us had similarities in our edit in
[39:20] that our edits showed
[39:22] our flaws you know what I mean I remember coming out of season
[39:26] 49 and I was talking
[39:27] with Rizzo and Soph and we were talking about how I was
[39:31] probably gonna get like
[39:31] this wonderful edit that was gonna make me just seem so
[39:34] wonderful and perfect and
[39:35] SPEAKER_03: all this stuff
[39:36] And you see the show and you see exactly how I can come across
[39:39] and how that can be
[39:40] positive to some people sure but to a lot of people out there
[39:43] there's a lot of
[39:43] qualities about me that can rub someone the wrong way right and
[39:46] I think you kind of
[39:47] saw that in Aubrey's edit as well in the beginning of the game
[39:49] you know you see
[39:50] that she's at the bottom and you see that maybe her
[39:53] conversations with others are
[39:54] SPEAKER_03: rubbing people the wrong way
[39:56] I'm curious if that's like an attempt on productions part to
[40:00] like maybe showcase
[40:02] people in a more like comprehensive way or something like that
[40:07] maybe show some of
[40:08] those flaws quote-unquote there as far as our games go though I
[40:13] think my game in 49
[40:15] SPEAKER_03: was just it was loud you know like you had
[40:19] SPEAKER_03: Drop Your Buffs
[40:36] It's interesting because again with my edit for 49 like one of
[40:39] the first things I
[40:39] say is like this is going to be the easiest million I will ever
[40:42] make and that was I
[40:43] think in the trailer or something like that if that doesn't
[40:45] scream winners edit
[40:46] like I don't know what else does and with Aubrey's like I don't
[40:49] remember what her
[40:50] first confessional was or anything like that but I remember a
[40:53] big part of her
[40:54] SPEAKER_01: beginning of the game it was
[40:56] Her talking about you know seeming like she was having a hard
[40:59] time out there right
[41:01] and that's not typically how we see our winners start their
[41:04] game I think I saw an
[41:07] interview with Aubrey where she was saying she like was sick or
[41:08] something the first
[41:09] you know week or something so that might be reason for it but I
[41:15] don't know if that
[41:15] answers your question completely but there definitely is like
[41:18] some similarities
[41:19] there but also like the the differences I think are just kind
[41:22] of a result of the
[41:23] SPEAKER_01: way that we we played our games
[41:26] I noticed that earlier in this interview you referred to the
[41:29] host as the host and
[41:31] in fact you started to say his name and corrected yourself
[41:33] midway and I'm just
[41:34] curious um are you what's that about well I thought don't you
[41:39] guys say that we do
[41:41] we do yeah I want to be like you guys I'm on your podcast I'm
[41:43] in your house I'm
[41:45] SPEAKER_03: trying to obey the house rules
[41:46] SPEAKER_02: Okay, fair, fair, fair.
[41:48] If you come to my apartment,
[41:49] you're taking your shoes off,
[41:50] you know what I mean?
[41:51] SPEAKER_03: Totally, totally.
[41:53] Okay,
[41:53] I want to know about the Season 50 reunion special,
[41:58] or sort of what could have been.
[42:00] SPEAKER_02: I think what was so exciting at the prospect of a Season 50 reunion...
[42:06] SPEAKER_02: Drop Your Buff
[42:35] Don't like each other something that I think a lot of the fans
[42:38] miss about this show
[42:39] because there is a kumbaya nature to the new era in general um
[42:45] were you expecting
[42:48] the fireworks that I know people like coach promised in the
[42:52] lead-up to the reunion
[42:54] First of all,
[42:54] coach is going to say whatever coach wants to say,
[42:56] you know what I mean?
[42:58] SPEAKER_03: No, I wasn't.
[42:59] SPEAKER_03: And I think it's just a sign of the times with the way that Survivor is.
[43:03] SPEAKER_03: Like,
[43:03] SPEAKER_03: you know,
[43:04] SPEAKER_03: when I grew up watching the show,
[43:05] SPEAKER_03: like it wasn't a show that was marketed towards kids.
[43:08] SPEAKER_03: It was a show that was marketed towards,
[43:09] SPEAKER_03: I don't know,
[43:10] SPEAKER_03: like the American public,
[43:11] SPEAKER_03: but mostly like adults,
[43:12] SPEAKER_03: right?
[43:13] SPEAKER_03: Put the kids to bed.
[43:14] SPEAKER_03: Yes, it's 8 o'clock.
[43:16] SPEAKER_03: They need to get out of here, get out of the living room.
[43:19] SPEAKER_03: But I think in today's day and age,
[43:21] we see so many references to this being a family show and
[43:24] especially direct
[43:25] SPEAKER_03: messaging to children,
[43:26] SPEAKER_03: right?
[43:27] And just because of that,
[43:29] I don't think production,
[43:30] I don't think they want the drama.
[43:32] you know like I think they want things to be very like happy
[43:36] and maybe a little bit
[43:37] softer um and it just speaks to like how that audience and
[43:41] their goals for the
[43:42] audience has changed over the years um that being said I'm a
[43:47] Real Housewives fan I
[43:48] love how they do their reunion shows so I wish we had like Andy
[43:52] Cohen or someone
[43:53] come on and he can ask like the hard questions and make some
[43:56] people cry and sweat
[43:58] SPEAKER_03: and just you know put put their what is it the
[44:01] Beat to the Flames whatever it is if you had the opportunity
[44:05] there's a famous
[44:06] segment that Andy Cohen does I think it's typically done at
[44:10] BravoCon called Squash
[44:11] the Beef where he takes two housewives that have some sort of
[44:15] feud and puts them
[44:16] face to face in the effort to try and quash it if you were Andy
[44:19] in this scenario
[44:20] with the season 50 cast who would be your first choice in terms
[44:24] of two players that
[44:25] SPEAKER_02: you want to get on stage to attempt to squash the beef honestly
[44:30] I hope it doesn't get me in trouble probably Jenna and Sari oh
[44:35] yeah I just feel
[44:36] like that would make the best TV and I know Jenna was an early
[44:39] boot and I know Sari
[44:40] did really well but I feel like if you want fireworks Jenna is
[44:43] someone who does not
[44:44] SPEAKER_03: hold back she'll speak her mind and Sari also she's someone who doesn't
[44:50] Like she's gonna stand up for herself and I thought that their
[44:53] relationship was
[44:54] really interesting on the island and I feel like honestly I
[44:58] know we have some some
[44:59] dramatic people in our cast right but I feel like that is where
[45:02] you would see the
[45:03] biggest sparks fly also maybe like if we could get a three-way
[45:09] with Christian Mike
[45:10] SPEAKER_03: and Angelina I feel like that would be really fun too
[45:13] Yeah I think that was such a sad missed opportunity an
[45:16] unfortunate scheduling issue
[45:18] because like how great would that have been if they even would
[45:21] have done it the
[45:22] thing about though the the sort of like family nature of the
[45:24] show and Savannah you
[45:25] can probably relate to this because Evan's a pandemic binger of
[45:30] Survivor I'm like a
[45:31] day one-er and it's like I was 14 I was 14 watching Sue Hawk
[45:37] like rip Kelly
[45:38] SPEAKER_00: Wigglesworth a new one that was family view
[45:41] Right Like kids can take a lot more than I think we give them
[45:45] credit for Well it
[45:46] was so funny like when I was young I have very like strict
[45:49] parents growing up and
[45:51] growing up they would make me run out of the room whenever
[45:53] Richard Hatch was naked
[45:54] on TV or there was people kissing or anything like that so like
[45:58] you know the kids
[45:59] SPEAKER_03: can enjoy the show but just have them do a little cardio in between the
[46:01] SPEAKER_03: inappropriate you know fiery scenes and we're all gonna be fine Yeah Yeah
[46:07] I am curious you know there's a lot of talk about the 39 days
[46:12] versus the 26 do you
[46:15] wish that if you had it your way especially as being this
[46:17] longtime fan do you wish
[46:19] that you would have the opportunity to play a 39 day game yeah
[46:23] I actually do um and
[46:24] it's so interesting I feel like they almost are different types
[46:27] of games like
[46:28] especially when you think about the social game right because
[46:30] with 39 days like
[46:32] SPEAKER_03: you're
[46:33] SPEAKER_03: And again,
[46:33] SPEAKER_03: this comes from people who say I don't have a great social game,
[46:35] SPEAKER_03: whatever,
[46:36] but you have to have a decent social game to make it further in
[46:39] 39 because if
[46:40] SPEAKER_03: you're annoying or if you're rubbing people the wrong way,
[46:42] SPEAKER_03: they're gonna vote you out for those petty reasons.
[46:44] SPEAKER_03: With 26 days, I know that's really just, what, 13 days difference?
[46:49] SPEAKER_03: Doesn't sound like a lot, but in the game- It sounds like a lot to me.
[46:52] SPEAKER_03: Well,
[46:52] when you're going to Tribal Council almost every night after
[46:54] you get to the merge,
[46:55] SPEAKER_03: there's stuff happening so quickly.
[46:58] SPEAKER_03: It forces you to think a little bit differently about the game, I think.
[47:01] Can I just say though it's like didn't God create the world in
[47:04] like 7 so 13 is a
[47:06] lot like that's like people being like oh it's just 13 days and
[47:09] like that's a long
[47:10] time Evan I didn't know you were so spiritual We'd have to
[47:14] check in with Shannon
[47:15] Fairweather on that one Probably she's the expert now Or Mark
[47:19] Burnett Or Mark
[47:21] Burnett yeah But anyway sorry I cut you off what were you
[47:24] saying I don't care now
[47:25] you're fine again this is your house I'm just a guest I don't
[47:29] want a steamroll
[47:30] No you're fine oh my god I love a little steamroll but I think
[47:34] I don't know what I
[47:34] was saying oh I would have loved to play 39 Days they're never
[47:39] going to go back to
[47:39] that though I mean it's all about the bottom line now you know
[47:41] what I mean like
[47:42] it's the money yeah who among those old school names that were
[47:48] being floated for 50
[47:49] that didn't make it on to 50 were you most excited for oh my
[47:53] god Jerry on the
[47:55] SPEAKER_03: season would have actually been like insane like oh my god
[48:00] SPEAKER_03: And maybe Colby would have had a story Yeah, right?
[48:04] Exactly I think especially with Jerry She was painted as such a
[48:09] villain when her
[48:11] SPEAKER_03: seasons aired originally
[48:12] She really wasn't doing anything like crazy villainous though I
[48:16] feel like she was
[48:16] just like a woman who was outspoken and in some moments you
[48:21] know I could see a
[48:22] little bit of myself in her you know and I would love to see
[48:24] her play in today's
[48:25] modern day where people aren't necessarily rubbed the wrong way
[48:28] by a woman who's
[48:29] gonna be blunt and you know I mean I guess sometimes they are a
[48:33] little rubbed the
[48:34] wrong way by that but I don't know I feel like it would have
[48:36] been really fun to see
[48:38] SPEAKER_03: her play again
[48:40] Yeah we I mean people talk about it as though like this was the
[48:43] final opportunity
[48:45] with which we will ever see Jerry on Survivor and she might
[48:49] feel that way now with
[48:50] being passed over but I am still hopeful of the fact that like
[48:53] there will be more
[48:54] SPEAKER_02: All-Stars
[48:55] Tell me this much I feel as though people like Colby and Ozzy
[49:01] and Sari I feel like
[49:02] when it comes to returning player seasons and the reason why
[49:05] Second Chances is so
[49:08] good by the way halfway through my Second Chances rewatch right
[49:11] now thumbs are
[49:12] SPEAKER_02: still remaining way up
[49:14] The reason why that season is so good is because there's this
[49:17] equal playing field
[49:18] of everybody coming back for a second shot at glory and what I
[49:21] think I think
[49:23] there's a lot that made season 50 ultimately not work but I
[49:27] think one of those
[49:28] SPEAKER_02: things
[49:29] is the fact that you have people that are coming back for the
[49:32] second time and then
[49:33] you have people that are coming back for the third the fourth
[49:35] and even the fifth
[49:36] and so I'm wondering if you think that there should be any more
[49:38] consideration when
[49:39] it comes to returning players seasons about equaling the
[49:42] playing field as far as
[49:44] two-time players versus like you know we've talked we've talked
[49:47] a lot about there
[49:47] being a second second chances but like I would love like a
[49:50] third chances season
[49:52] SPEAKER_02: where everybody coming back is just on equal footing in that sense
[49:56] SPEAKER_01: That's such a good question.
[49:57] SPEAKER_01: It's almost like hard to answer because I've really only,
[50:00] SPEAKER_01: I had my original season and then that second season that I did.
[50:04] SPEAKER_03: I feel like honestly once you've played once, you got it.
[50:08] SPEAKER_03: You got that one time experience.
[50:09] SPEAKER_03: I really feel like everything after that is almost going to be like,
[50:13] I don't think someone who plays three times has a bigger leg up
[50:16] than maybe someone
[50:17] who plays two or someone who plays four times has a bigger leg
[50:19] up than someone who
[50:20] SPEAKER_03: plays just two.
[50:21] SPEAKER_03: You know what I mean?
[50:22] I think selfishly to like as someone who if I ever play again
[50:25] it would be my third
[50:26] time like I would absolutely want to play the game with people
[50:29] who maybe have
[50:29] played like you know more more than more than I have or in some
[50:32] cases like less
[50:33] than I have to write there's there's players who fall into both
[50:35] categories for me
[50:36] so this is tricky so what's next Savannah are you eyeing a spot
[50:43] on the traders
[50:44] SPEAKER_03: Oh my god, I would love to go on The Traders.
[50:46] SPEAKER_03: I would love if they would call me.
[50:48] SPEAKER_03: But honestly, right now I'm back in normal TV stuff.
[50:52] SPEAKER_03: I'm in a newsroom-ish.
[50:53] Again,
[50:53] I'm doing lifestyle content for one of our local channels here
[50:56] in Atlanta.
[50:58] And I don't know,
[50:59] my dream actually would be to work someday in New York or LA.
[51:03] SPEAKER_03: So maybe I'll get to do a face-to-face with one of you guys eventually.
[51:06] SPEAKER_03: That'd be amazing.
[51:08] um as far as reality goes like i had so much fun on survivor
[51:11] and when i applied for
[51:12] survivor like i was just thinking about the game you know i
[51:14] wasn't thinking about
[51:15] like oh i want to do other shows but now i feel like i kind of
[51:18] have like the itch
[51:19] and so if there's like any other shows out there i'm like yeah
[51:22] like let's see what
[51:22] SPEAKER_03: they're all about let's see how i can do and i love being able to compete
[51:26] especially as an adult i feel like there's not like a lot of
[51:29] like healthy outlets
[51:30] SPEAKER_03: to really like have that kind of strategic competition um
[51:35] I mean I guess you could do like team sports but I'm not really
[51:37] a team sports girl
[51:38] so you know I do wish there was more I don't know I go back and
[51:43] forth about this I
[51:44] wish there was more of an ecosystem for reality stars after
[51:49] they play Survivor but
[51:51] I don't really love the traitors as a show and I don't think
[51:54] it's necessarily like
[51:55] the best showcase for Survivor talent unless it's like
[51:59] personality driven players
[52:01] SPEAKER_02: what Sean?
[52:01] SPEAKER_00: He does love the traitors as a show we hate the traitors as a game
[52:05] Yeah Really Because They Go After The Gamers Well Because The
[52:08] Game Doesn't Make Any
[52:10] Sense Like There's No Strategic Way Really To Play The Traitors
[52:13] Except To Not Say
[52:13] Anything And Get To The End And It's Like You Get Instances
[52:16] Like The Jeremy Collins
[52:17] SPEAKER_02: Or Natalie Anderson Where Like The Show Doesn't Know Or
[52:20] and you know where like the show doesn't know how to best
[52:23] service them um but then
[52:25] you look at like House of Villains and it's like I'm not gonna
[52:27] I love Tyson I'm not
[52:29] gonna tune into that show like it's or Richard Hatch like no
[52:32] stop you need to watch
[52:33] House of Villains I'm sorry like yes I watched the last season
[52:36] it's so if you don't
[52:37] take it too seriously like it's just fine you know what I mean
[52:40] yeah okay okay
[52:41] But it's a little camp It's cute I like it But I do think that
[52:45] there's something I
[52:46] respect and this is why I love Aubrey so fucking much I like
[52:49] the fact that she was
[52:50] like I've played Survivor 50 now and like I'm gonna go back to
[52:54] being a real person
[52:55] because one of the many things that repels me so much from new
[52:59] era players
[53:00] is this kind of desire to like they got a taste of the
[53:03] quote-unquote spotlight and
[53:05] they now need to keep like feeding that that that the appetite
[53:09] that they have for
[53:10] that scratching that itch and I think I just have so much
[53:13] respect for people that
[53:14] are like listen I had this experience and I'm Colleen Haskeling
[53:18] it peace out and I
[53:20] SPEAKER_02: know that's not for everyone no I get it I like that
[53:24] Here's what I'll say like for me personally I'm very money
[53:27] motivated if you show me
[53:28] dollar signs I'm gonna be like okay like what can we do here
[53:31] and there is like you
[53:33] can make money off of these shows and by getting your name out
[53:36] there and I mean
[53:37] like you know the more followers you get like the more
[53:39] opportunities you can get
[53:40] right and so I see both sides of it I've noticed that you make
[53:43] a good point there
[53:44] yeah you don't want someone out there who's just like you know
[53:46] whoring themselves
[53:47] SPEAKER_03: out for like reality shows but at the same time like
[53:49] And this economy like tell me what I need to do I'll do it
[53:52] right especially like
[53:53] the the pay to work ratio is such where I can completely
[53:57] understand okay I do want
[53:58] to make sure we get to this which is uh you have a cast member
[54:02] on season 50 uh that
[54:04] you might need to squash the beef with you are among the alumni
[54:07] that have been
[54:08] blocked wait I have breaking news you guys I think I'm actually
[54:15] unblocked sorry I
[54:16] SPEAKER_03: cut you off is that so annoying
[54:18] SPEAKER_03: No, I'm checking right now.
[54:20] SPEAKER_02: Yeah, please.
[54:21] SPEAKER_02: Okay.
[54:21] SPEAKER_02: So I'll contextualize while you check.
[54:22] SPEAKER_02: So Joe Hunter, the husband of the, is it tall, beautiful?
[54:28] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[54:30] SPEAKER_02: Husband of the tall, beautiful wife.
[54:32] SPEAKER_02: Um, probably my favorite quote from survivor 50, maybe.
[54:37] SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, he blocked you.
[54:39] SPEAKER_02: He was,
[54:40] SPEAKER_02: you know,
[54:40] SPEAKER_02: he blocked several alumni from the unblocked baby,
[54:43] SPEAKER_02: but I see that you're not following.
[54:46] Now that you're unblocked,
[54:48] do you think that you two could potentially squash the beef?
[54:51] SPEAKER_03: I don't want to, like, come into his ecosystem and bother him.
[54:55] SPEAKER_03: I feel like I'm probably,
[54:56] SPEAKER_03: like,
[54:56] SPEAKER_03: a little annoying fly or something,
[54:58] SPEAKER_03: and he's unblocked me,
[54:59] SPEAKER_03: which I appreciate,
[55:00] SPEAKER_03: but I don't want to,
[55:00] SPEAKER_03: like,
[55:01] SPEAKER_03: annoy him or,
[55:02] SPEAKER_03: like,
[55:03] SPEAKER_03: you know,
[55:03] SPEAKER_03: poke the bear,
[55:04] SPEAKER_03: for lack of a better term there.
[55:05] Not saying he's a bear or anything like that,
[55:07] you know,
[55:07] don't take this out of context.
[55:08] SPEAKER_02: Well, in the gay community, a bear is a good thing.
[55:10] SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
[55:12] SPEAKER_03: Finally!
[55:36] SPEAKER_03: Drop Your Buffs
[55:51] SPEAKER_02: Rizzo has a better sense of humor than I would have expected,
[55:55] SPEAKER_02: which again,
[55:56] SPEAKER_02: as I said up top really endears me,
[55:58] but there are enough people that we come for that really do
[56:02] like get twisted about
[56:04] SPEAKER_02: it.
[56:04] Um,
[56:05] and so I feel like I don't want to feel hinged at all in
[56:10] speaking how I feel.
[56:11] SPEAKER_02: And so sometimes I feel like if I keep seeing,
[56:14] and also there are certain alumni who like the second we post a
[56:18] story and you go to
[56:18] SPEAKER_02: check are like,
[56:19] SPEAKER_02: they are
[56:20] Fiending For Information Hoping To See Their Name Hoping For
[56:25] Some Semblance Of A
[56:26] SPEAKER_02: Will To Live Who Is It We'll Tell You After
[56:31] we'll tell you after but needless to say so at the time I'm
[56:34] like I don't know if
[56:35] she has a sense of humor about this and I will say this I love
[56:38] to be mean um I
[56:40] don't like hurting people's feelings and there is a difference
[56:44] and so when I when
[56:45] there's the possibility that you're checking in on us it then
[56:49] sort of shifts the
[56:51] conversation but I will say like we had a beef with Rachel
[56:54] Lamont the winner of 40
[56:56] Oh I didn't know that And she messaged us and she felt some
[57:01] type of way about
[57:01] something we said and we had a really productive dialogue about
[57:05] it and now we
[57:06] squash that beef I love it Sometimes there's a conversation to
[57:10] be had but other
[57:11] times it's like there are a lot of players that they're never
[57:13] going to get on our
[57:14] good side and I wouldn't want to so in the past I hide it out
[57:19] of protection for you
[57:21] SPEAKER_02: because we can be fucking mean
[57:24] Oh my god Evan you feel like you're my dad right now daddy I'm
[57:30] daddy Joe Hunter's a
[57:31] bear um okay Sean anything else before we we wrap no that's it
[57:36] unless there's
[57:37] anything you want to plug where can people find you Svenna they
[57:39] know where to find
[57:40] SPEAKER_03: you oh yeah just find me on Instagram um Savz it's spelled weird but it's
[57:44] SPEAKER_03: S-A-H-H-V-Z or watch me on ATL live here in Atlanta
[57:49] SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and don't go into her DMs with death threats.
[57:52] SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
[57:53] SPEAKER_02: In fact, if you're gonna go into Savannah's DMs, make sure it's love.
[57:57] SPEAKER_02: Savannah, what do you want Buffy's to comment on this post?
[58:02] SPEAKER_02: An emoji.
[58:02] SPEAKER_02: Would you like to pick an emoji?
[58:04] SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
[58:04] SPEAKER_03: Oh, do the foot emoji.
[58:07] So foot emoji And then you tag Savannah in the post Just to
[58:12] make it explicitly
[58:13] clear for all Buffys The feud is over The feud with Torch
[58:17] Snuffer That I cannot
[58:19] give a status update on I've squashed my beef with Torch
[58:23] Snuffer But I think it
[58:26] still needs to be hatched out on the phone I will say she did
[58:28] avoid me I went to
[58:29] SPEAKER_02: the Survivor 49 finale Regretfully This was at a gay bar
[58:36] Wait where were you No I went to like a gay bar viewing of it
[58:38] Yes I saw you there
[58:40] and I wanted to say hello by the way so don't think I was
[58:43] avoiding you okay Okay
[58:44] well I felt like and then I did get confronted by someone on
[58:47] your cast Who?
[58:50] SPEAKER_02: Will you bleep it Sean?
[58:51] SPEAKER_02: Sure Was that a confrontation?
[58:56] SPEAKER_02: Yeah yeah she came over to me Wait why?
[58:59] SPEAKER_02: What did they say?
[59:01] SPEAKER_02: It felt confronting I mean I'd also smoked a big blonde before so
[59:10] I don't think we were very nice to her but I stand by it oh no
[59:16] okay wait um well we
[59:17] have to let you go Savannah come back on you can ask one more
[59:21] thing if you want
[59:22] well no I was gonna say is there anyone that like from 49 that
[59:26] you don't like I
[59:28] don't have a problem with anyone and I think it's easy for me
[59:30] to say that because I
[59:31] won because it's like okay like someone has an issue with me
[59:34] okay okay what about
[59:35] SPEAKER_02: this do you have any beef with Jonathan no
[59:38] No I don't but I also never interacted with him I don't think
[59:42] we have beef but I
[59:43] never interacted with him in the game you know what I mean
[59:44] should we have him on
[59:45] Drop Your Buffs I'm tempted yes why yeah because I think it'd
[59:49] be interesting I
[59:50] SPEAKER_03: would like to see that conversation I think it'd be interesting yeah
[59:55] I would love to have you come on for 51 I don't know if we're
[1:00:02] going to be recapping
[1:00:03] it we might be tapping out we'll take it in stride but we will
[1:00:07] be recapping the new
[1:00:08] season of the traders there will be opportunities and I would
[1:00:10] love to have you back

[1:00:21] all like that is
[1:00:21] such a beautiful thing especially in today's world where you
