[0:01] A person who has purpose in their life, they have something
[0:05] to go for, some meaning. One writer described it.
[0:11] For some people, it becomes a magnificent obsession.
[0:16] And for you and I, maybe it doesn't need to be that dramatic
[0:19] as a magnificent obsession, but it has to be something that does
[0:25] something to us, something that pulls us especially into the
[0:29] future. You know, there are many
[0:31] influences on this. One is the influence of the
[0:33] past. Some people are always pulled
[0:34] back, back, back by the past. Some people are always pulled
[0:39] aside by the distractions. The distractions.
[0:42] But here's what's powerful. If you have a list of high
[0:45] purpose in your life, it pulls you toward the future.
[0:50] And the more powerful the purpose is, the stronger it
[0:52] pulls. And here's the other great
[0:55] advantage. If you have purpose for the
[0:56] future, it pulls you through all kinds of challenges and all
[1:01] kinds of difficulties. If you don't have these strong
[1:04] purposes for the future, it's easy to get swallowed by a bad
[1:07] day. It's easy to be almost
[1:09] annihilated by a poor month. And it's easy sometimes to
[1:14] almost disappear beneath the waves of a a year that goes
[1:18] backwards if you don't have something to pull you beyond
[1:21] that year. So if you want something to pull
[1:24] you through all kinds of challenges, all kinds of
[1:26] difficulties and things that come at you, you got to have
[1:29] something on out there beyond today, beyond next week, beyond
[1:35] next month, beyond this year that pulls you into the future.
[1:41] And the clearer it is, the stronger it pulls, the the more
[1:44] dynamic it is, the more it affects your life, your spirit,
[1:48] your heart, your soul. It also creates imagination.
[1:53] It gets your mind working on how to achieve that purpose and if
[1:56] your mind will work and if your heart works and if your spirit
[1:59] works and if you have good input, like good ideas, I'm
[2:02] telling you there isn't anything you can't accomplish.
[2:05] So that's one of the great powers that'll make a variable
[2:09] of you and that is purpose. Here's the next one,
[2:12] self-confidence. Where does self-confidence come
[2:16] from? And this is the best advice I
[2:18] can give you on that, not neglecting first of all, the
[2:22] small daily disciplines. self-confidence really comes
[2:27] from feeling good about yourself.
[2:30] And one of the best ways to feel good about yourself is at the
[2:33] end of the day to know that you poured it on.
[2:35] You did your best. If you conducted a meeting, you
[2:38] did the best you could. If you made a phone call, it was
[2:41] the best phone call you could possibly make.
[2:43] If you wrote a letter, it wasn't a casual letter.
[2:45] It was your best letter. At the end of those kind of
[2:48] days, when you feel good about yourself, self-confidence starts
[2:52] to rise. You know that if you can have
[2:55] this kind of a good day, you can have another one the next day.
[2:58] And those days become the weeks, the weeks become the months, and
[3:01] the month becomes a powerful year. self-confidence comes from
[3:05] the lack of neglect. If you will not neglect to do
[3:10] the small daily disciplines, that's where self-confidence
[3:14] comes from. Part of good health is
[3:16] self-confidence. I know I'm going to be healthy.
[3:19] I take the Herbalife products, I eat the apple a day, I walk
[3:23] around the block, I do the jogging on the beach.
[3:26] At the end of the day, when you've really poured it on and
[3:28] you've done all the stuff, self-confidence grows.
[3:32] That self-confidence affects your health, it affects your
[3:35] future, it affects your psyche. So this is true.
[3:38] One of the great powers is self-confidence.
[3:42] Self-confidence means willingness to do whatever it
[3:46] takes to achieve. Some people say, well, I'll do
[3:49] it for a little while and see what happens.
[3:52] You know, I'll try a couple of things.
[3:53] If that doesn't work, I'm out of here.
[3:56] And all of us know that that kind of person doesn't have much
[3:59] of A future. But if you're willing to do
[4:02] whatever it takes, if I have to learn a couple of things, I will
[4:06] learn those things. If I got to learn 5 or 6 things,
[4:08] I'll learn all six. If I have to take an extra
[4:10] class, I'll take an extra class. If I've got to read the books,
[4:13] I'll read the books. If I have to consult with people
[4:16] who know more than I know, I will do the necessary
[4:18] consulting. Whatever it takes, I will do.
[4:22] That starts to develop unbelievable self-confidence.
[4:27] self-confidence also comes from the ability to rise above your
[4:31] circumstances, to rise above what happens.
[4:35] The petty little things, the discouraging things that would
[4:39] sink everyone else's ship except yours, that would cause someone
[4:43] else to quit early in the day, but you keep going.
[4:46] That kind of willingness to overcome all circumstances,
[4:50] whether it's the little challenges or the big
[4:52] challenges. If you're willing to do that, I
[4:55] promise you this kind of power will work for you and in you,
[4:59] the variable, it'll make a difference.
[5:02] The 3rd on the list I had was enthusiasm.
[5:06] And here's what I wrote about enthusiasm.
[5:08] Enthusiasm. That's powerful is mostly
[5:12] enthusiasm. That is enthusiasm inside, 90
[5:16] percent, 10% outside. We all know what the enthusiasm
[5:23] is like when somebody lets us see their enthusiasm, which is
[5:27] the like the 90% and only 10% of it is inside.
[5:32] But the enthusiasm that really effects people is not just being
[5:36] loud, but the enthusiasm that runs deep.
[5:40] The enthusiasm that comes from deep inside, created by
[5:44] self-confidence, created by purpose, created by genuine
[5:48] willingness to help other people.
[5:49] That kind of enthusiasm, knowing that you're going to get the job
[5:53] done, knowing you're going to affect people, knowing you're
[5:55] going to have testimonials flowing in from all kinds of
[5:59] directions. That kind of enthusiasm, a lot
[6:03] of it is quiet, a lot of it is unheard, and the 10%, the turd,
[6:09] it rings a bell. People call it genuine
[6:12] enthusiasm because they know that what you say in the outward
[6:15] display of your enthusiasm is only a small tip of the iceberg
[6:20] of the enthusiasm you feel inside that really motivates you
[6:24] to do the best job you can. Next on my list to help you
[6:28] become the powerful variable is expertise.
[6:35] Wanting to excel in all of the skills and settling for nothing
[6:40] less than an outstanding performance.
[6:43] If you're willing to be the best in your field, if you're willing
[6:49] to demand of yourself excellence in skills, to be the best that
[6:54] you can possibly be in the training, do the best you
[6:58] possibly can. In doing a workshop, do the best
[7:02] you possibly can, developing the skills of using your
[7:06] personality, developing the skills of language, developing
[7:09] the skills of influence, developing the skills of
[7:13] organizing. If you're willing to be an
[7:15] expert in all of the skills, Herbalife has the way for you to
[7:19] invest those skills and not only make a handsome living.
[7:24] Not only make a lot of money, but if you would so desire, and
[7:27] if it would be your purpose, a chance to make your fortune,
[7:31] expertise, excellence in skills. Here was the next one on my
[7:37] list. Making a powerful contribution
[7:40] to you, the variable. And that is preparation.
[7:44] Well prepared. And preparation, of course,
[7:48] involves a whole lot of things. A big share of our life is
[7:52] preparing, getting ready. When we go to the first grade in
[7:55] school, we're just preparing for the second grade.
[7:59] After we finished two grades, the two grades prepare us for #3
[8:05] sometimes it seems like a long, excruciating time, and the time
[8:10] will just seem like it'll never come when we can finally have
[8:14] the performance that we really want.
[8:16] But it takes time to prepare, takes time to get ready.
[8:20] And the decisions you make in the preparation time, those are
[8:23] the decisions that last for a lifetime.
[8:26] Preparing to have a good day. It's that preparing maybe the
[8:31] night before, maybe the couple of days before the day that
[8:34] you're going to put everything together.
[8:37] The preparation for a meeting means that you've taken it
[8:40] serious. The preparation for doing a
[8:42] workshop means you're serious about the workshop.
[8:45] You want to make the best contribution.
[8:47] That kind of preparation is important.
[8:50] But here's preparation that's very vital, and that is to
[8:52] prepare yourself for success. Life seemingly does not wish to
[8:58] waste success on the unprepared. Life says why waste a fortune on
[9:04] this person? They're not prepared to do the
[9:06] right things with it. They're not prepared to use it
[9:09] wisely. If a fortune was bestowed upon
[9:12] this unprepared person, it would probably be wasted.
[9:16] The people that could have been touched won't be touched.
[9:18] What could have been done won't be done, because this fortune
[9:22] will have been wasted on the unprepared person.
[9:26] So not only look for fortune, not only look for the promise,
[9:29] but prepare yourself and ask of yourself, what can I do to make
[9:33] myself ready? Because remember, life was
[9:38] designed not to give us what we want, not to give us what we
[9:44] need, but life was designed to give us what we deserve.
[9:48] The value in life must be paid for, and those that pay are the
[9:52] ones that get it. It says those that give,
[9:54] receive. Someone says I wish to receive,
[9:57] I wish to receive. You don't have to concentrate on
[9:59] receiving, just become a good giver.
[10:03] It says those that search will find someone says, well, I need
[10:07] to find some good ideas to help change my life for the future.
[10:11] Then to find good ideas that doesn't come because you need
[10:13] them, because it comes because you search for them.
[10:17] If you want good ideas, you got to go after them.
[10:19] You got to go to the class, you got to go to the workshop, you
[10:21] got to go to the training, go to the book, right?
[10:24] You got to go to the journal, right?
[10:26] Go where good ideas are being taught, go searching, go looking
[10:30] because good ideas are not going to be wasted on those that are
[10:33] not seeking searching well prepared.
[10:37] So prepare yourself to be ready for fortune when it comes, to be
[10:42] ready for challenge when it comes, to be ready for
[10:45] opportunity when it comes. Opportunity comes along and
[10:49] passes by the person that is not well prepared.
[10:53] I want to prepare myself this year, for next year.
[10:56] Yes, I wish to be effective this year, but I'm also thinking of
[11:00] ways how could I be better? How could my ideas be more
[11:03] powerful? How could they be sharper, more
[11:05] clear? How could I reach some people
[11:08] next year that I perhaps can't reach this year?
[11:11] I haven't reached deep enough into my own soul to affect some
[11:14] people. Some people just pass by and
[11:16] say, hey, what a good speech, but how could I make it stronger
[11:19] than that, deeper than that, more powerful than that?
[11:23] I cannot be as powerful as I could be next year.
[11:27] You know you can't go to the to the 10th grade in the 5th grade,
[11:32] you just got to go through the grades.
[11:34] But the more you are prepared, when the 10th grade finally
[11:37] comes, now you can cash in and get 2 * 3 * 5 times more value
[11:42] from it by being prepared. I want to do my best this year
[11:46] for Herbalife, but I also want to get ready for next year,
[11:49] 1999. And then when the year 2000
[11:52] comes at the turn of the century, I want to be well
[11:55] equipped by language, by instinct, by temperament, by
[12:00] personality, by influence, to really be valuable.
[12:05] The year 2000, 2001, 2345, that's my goal.
[12:13] I'm sure it's your goal. Now here's the next one.
[12:18] There's great power in self-reliance. self-reliance
[12:23] means you simply look mostly to yourself.
[12:28] It would be nice if someone just gave you this, gave you this,
[12:31] gave you this. It would be nice if everyone did
[12:34] their job exactly as they're supposed to do it.
[12:37] But here's what you've got to do.
[12:38] Primarily. Rely on yourself Primarily.
[12:43] Say I'm the person responsible and I will learn the necessary
[12:48] skills so that I can help people learn their skills.
[12:51] If I need lots of people to do certain things to build my
[12:54] organization, that is what I must have.
[12:57] But I've got to be the final backstop.
[13:00] I've got to be the final one that people can rely on so that
[13:03] if this is missed and this is missed, I can catch up.
[13:06] I can fill the gap. I can do the job.
[13:09] We have to do it when we conduct meetings.
[13:11] We have to do it when we conduct training.
[13:14] We have to do it when we're in a class of just a few what someone
[13:17] might have missed. We're there to fill in
[13:20] self-reliance. Primarily, we're learning to
[13:24] count on yourself so that you can do this.
[13:29] Never complain and never explain.
[13:34] Here's the next key, power, and that's image.
[13:38] There's many parts to image the image that others see you as the
[13:43] image you have with other people.
[13:46] And it's very important how other people see you.
[13:50] If they don't see you as a leader, chances are they won't
[13:53] pay attention. If they don't see you as being
[13:55] in control, chances are they won't have the trust.
[14:00] If they don't see you as knowing where you're going, what you
[14:03] want to accomplish, they probably won't follow.
[14:07] But if people can see you, if you have the image of someone
[14:10] that's in charge, in control, in control of your life, your
[14:16] future, your destiny, in control of the situation, if they see
[14:20] that that kind of image is powerful, it helps to win the
[14:25] day. It attracts other people.
[14:27] People want to be around people that are in control, that are
[14:30] powerful, but they know how to use their power, influential,
[14:34] but they know how to use their influence.
[14:36] That kind of image is important, but here's a very important
[14:41] image, and that is your image of yourself.
[14:46] The way you dress, the way you talk, the way you think, your
[14:53] capacity for learning, all of that is an important image that
[14:58] you have of yourself. The image that you have that if
[15:03] it needs to be learned, you could learn it.
[15:05] If there's a book that needs to be mastered, you could master
[15:08] it. If there's a skill that needs to
[15:10] be learned, why couldn't you get busy now and learn that skill?
[15:14] That kind of self-image that I am continually trying my best to
[15:19] be the best I can because one of the most important places you
[15:23] have to look is into the future, Yes, You got to look into the
[15:26] past, yes, you've got to look around, yes.
[15:29] But one of the most important places you have to look is in
[15:31] the mirror. You know how I appear to other
[15:34] people? That's important, but how I
[15:36] appear to myself is the ultimate importance.
[15:41] That kind of image to where you'll develop the
[15:44] self-confidence, you'll develop the self-reliance.
[15:48] Now here's another one in my rather short list.
[15:53] The next word is character. Becoming a person of high
[15:57] values, a person of principles, a person of honesty, a person
[16:04] that earns respect, that kind of character.
[16:11] It took character when Mark started to put the marketing
[16:14] system together. How can we have a system that
[16:19] will build in the integrity that people will know that if this
[16:23] happens, then this will happen. And if this goes wrong, here's
[16:27] the way to fix it. Unless you have the principles
[16:31] and the character and the integrity to put together a
[16:35] viable plan for a wide variety of people, then the system is
[16:39] not going to last very long. And I've been around long
[16:42] enough, and I'm sure you have been around long enough to see a
[16:45] lot of systems that got started, but they failed.
[16:48] And the reason is because they were not constructed with
[16:50] integrity. They were not constructed with
[16:52] character. They were not constructed with
[16:55] doing the right thing. They might have been constructed
[16:58] to take advantage, you know, cash it out as quickly as
[17:01] possible and leave. Mark was involved when others
[17:04] took advantage of him all those years ago before Erbila, when
[17:08] someone took advantage and didn't have the character,
[17:10] didn't have the principles and didn't have the the character to
[17:16] stay the character to see it through, the character to do the
[17:19] right thing. So this is important to develop
[17:22] the character within yourself that people see you as honest,
[17:28] as fair, willing to do the right thing, willing to be helpful,
[17:34] but always willing to walk the center line, not to pass the
[17:38] line. When we come to an opportunity
[17:40] like Herbalife, especially a multi level network marketing,
[17:44] it is so dynamic, it is so powerful and it is so possible
[17:51] in fortune making that sometimes people want to speed up the
[17:54] process by cutting the corners, by neglecting to do the right
[17:59] things. You know, to cheat a little
[18:01] here, cheat a little here, you know, cross the line just a
[18:03] little bit because then you know, it'll grow faster and you
[18:06] can cash in quicker. Not necessary here.
[18:10] Doing Herbalife right will build your fortune longer and stronger
[18:14] than trying to cut the corners and not doing it right.
[18:17] If you'll, if we'll have the integrity that Mark had when he
[18:20] started it, then keep perpetuating that, that we will
[18:23] do the right thing by the marketing system, the right
[18:25] thing by a distributor who has a customer and they take care of
[18:29] that customer. That customer belongs to that
[18:31] distributor. That kind of integrity in the
[18:33] marketing system, the kind of integrity we have among each
[18:36] other, the kind of character, we have to rely on each other
[18:40] because here's what we cannot do.
[18:42] We cannot do this by ourselves. Mark's got to count on me.
[18:47] I've got to count on Mark. We've got to count on the
[18:49] president's team. The president's team has to
[18:51] count on the chairman's club for advice and counsel.
[18:55] We have to count on the millionaire team, the tabulator
[18:57] team, the World Team. We've got to count on the
[18:59] distributor. We've got to count on the
[19:02] distributor giving the right message to the potential
[19:05] customer. We've got to count on the
[19:07] distributor giving wise counsel to the new recruit, teaching
[19:11] them the right way, the Herbalife way, the principled
[19:13] way, the character way, vitally important, building and
[19:18] developing your own character. Now here's another one.
[19:24] It's called self-discipline. Self-discipline.
[19:29] All of us have a challenge with that because sometimes it's easy
[19:33] and especially if you're working hard, doing the best you can,
[19:35] it's easy sometimes to let up and let it go.
[19:39] But remember, so many people, especially now that we're as big
[19:42] as we are around the world, are counting on what we do at Home
[19:46] Office. They have to be careful, they
[19:48] have to be disciplined. It's easy for the person who
[19:52] ships. The product from Herbalife says,
[19:53] Oh, well, I'll wait until tomorrow to ship it, and then
[19:57] they go home and sleep like a baby.
[19:59] But the distributor who's waiting for that product doesn't
[20:01] sleep that night or doesn't sleep when the product doesn't
[20:04] show on time. But if everybody will have the
[20:07] discipline to say I will do the best job I can, I will make
[20:11] mistakes, of course, because we're all human, but I'll try to
[20:14] remedy those mistakes and do the best job I can.
[20:17] That kind of self-discipline that understands how important
[20:21] your part is in all of the functions that work.
[20:25] Coming to work on the set here HBN, there's so many people that
[20:30] play a part and each one of the parts that are played is
[20:34] necessary to put on the broadcast.
[20:36] Make it viable, make it real, make it powerful.
[20:40] Any couple of them missing and it would be a disaster.
[20:43] But all of it put together and it works like a charm.
[20:47] Each person developing the self-discipline to do their
[20:51] part, do their job. Here's one more, and that is the
[20:58] power of extraordinary performance and demanding of
[21:03] yourself excellent results. This is so important.
[21:10] If you want to live extraordinary, you must do
[21:14] extraordinary. If you want an extraordinary
[21:17] income, you must do extraordinary things.
[21:21] If you want an extraordinary fortune, you must go with the
[21:26] demands of what it takes to have that fortune.
[21:30] Mark has made such a fortune it's almost beyond comprehension
[21:33] what the numbers really are. But guess what?
[21:36] He has the satisfaction of knowing he earned it all.
[21:41] If he'd have been LAX in the performance, Herbalife would not
[21:44] be here these 18 years later. Herbalife would have been a
[21:48] footnote in multi level history, but because he performed year
[21:52] after year, the third year and the 5th year and the 7th year
[21:57] and the 10th year and the 12th year and the 15th year and now
[22:02] performing well in the 18th year.
[22:04] I'm telling you that's what makes it such a viable fortune
[22:07] for Mark personally, of course, because he did the job.
[22:10] If we would ask of ourselves that kind of performance, and
[22:14] you've got to ask it of yourself, you know, I can't ask
[22:17] it of you. I would try to inspire you.
[22:20] I would try my best to share with you what it might taste
[22:23] like, what it's like to finally make your fortune.
[22:26] It happened for me. But here's what you must do.
[22:29] You must demand it of yourself. Society does not demand that you
[22:33] not have a heart attack. But if you want to escape having
[22:37] a heart attack, you must demand it of yourself.
[22:41] Society doesn't demand that you take herbal life and improve
[22:44] your health. You have to demand it of
