[0:00] Let other people lead small lives, but not you.
[0:03] Let everybody else cry over small hurts, but not you.
[0:07] Let everybody else argue over non essentials, but not you.
[0:11] Deal in things that matter. Make sure what you do is the
[0:15] product of your own conclusion. Jim's message couldn't be more
[0:18] relevant today. Every day people are losing the
[0:21] silent battle, the one happening in their own minds.
[0:25] That's exactly why we created the Self-discipline Master
[0:28] Playbook, a powerful guide trusted by over 5000 individuals
[0:32] who decided to take control of their focus, habits and future.
[0:37] If you're done letting procrastination and self doubt
[0:40] win, this is your move. Tap the link in the description.
[0:44] Don't just listen, level up. Take advice, but not orders.
[0:50] Let everybody around you be helpful, but then put that
[0:53] through your own mental computer and make sure what you do is the
[0:55] product of what you've concluded based on all the input.
[0:59] All of us should be students of inevitability.
[1:01] Without kidding myself, if I keep up my current daily
[1:04] practices, where will it take me in 10 years without being
[1:08] disillusioned? I don't want to just cross my
[1:12] fingers and walk the wrong Rd. I got to learn to look into the
[1:17] future called inevitable. Human beings can alter the
[1:22] course of their life. Human beings can live one way
[1:27] for five years, tear up that script, live a totally different
[1:30] way the next five years. The first six years of my
[1:34] economic life, I wound up broke. Second six years, I wound up
[1:37] rich. Someone says, don't you have to
[1:40] do the second six years like you did the first six years and jot
[1:43] this down? No, no, you don't have to live
[1:47] the second six years like the first six.
[1:50] You can use all the information and all the advice and repairing
[1:53] all of your mistakes and adopting a new and refined
[1:56] philosophy so that the next six years can be totally different
[1:58] than the last 6. Now here's the next note to
[2:01] make. Five years from now, you will
[2:03] arrive. The question is where?
[2:09] This is for mature people. Now, if you keep up your present
[2:11] disciplines and keep up the present pace that you're on,
[2:14] where will you be in five years? Boy, it's easy to say, hey, I
[2:17] haven't really thought about that.
[2:20] So now make this note. In five years, here's the
[2:23] probability you will either arrive at a well designed
[2:28] destination or an undesigned destination.
[2:32] Well designed or undesigned. And I promise you, five years
[2:37] from now, you, you really don't want to arrive at an undesigned
[2:40] destination because you may very well wind up wearing what you
[2:45] don't want to wear, driving what you don't want to drive, living
[2:47] where you don't want to live, maybe doing what you don't want
[2:50] to do simply because you didn't design A better destination.
[2:57] Five years from now, I wish for you to arrive at a well designed
[3:01] place, a place of productivity, a place that'll make you feel
[3:06] good about yourself, a place that'll give you honor and
[3:11] respect, place that'll give you influence to touch other people
[3:15] Five years from now that you couldn't do today.
[3:18] Where will you be in five years? The first thing you start
[3:23] changing is what your philosophy.
[3:27] You start changing your mind. You start changing how you
[3:30] think. You start picking up new ideas
[3:31] and information, gather new knowledge, make better decisions
[3:34] about what's valuable. And I'm telling you, if you'll
[3:36] do that, your whole life will change.
[3:38] Your health will change. Your relationship with your
[3:40] family will change. Your ability to cope with
[3:43] challenges and problems will change.
[3:44] I'm telling you income, promotions, all of it will
[3:46] change. If you will change, it'll all
[3:47] change. If you won't change, it isn't
[3:49] going to change. You can keep your fingers
[3:51] crossed if you want to and hope they'll straighten it out.
[3:55] You can wish for the wind not to blow quite as severe.
[3:57] But I'm telling you, wishing for the wind to change in your
[4:00] favor. I mean we call naive at best.
[4:03] Don't do this any longer. Wish for a better wind.
[4:06] The key is to wish for the wisdom to set a better sail.
[4:09] Utilize whatever wind that blows to take you wherever you want to
[4:12] go. That is the philosophy I picked
[4:14] up at age 25 and it revolutionized my whole life.
[4:20] And here's what I found. I found it was easy.
[4:22] I got rich by the time I was 31 and it was easy.
[4:24] Now here's my definition of easy.
[4:25] Got to jot this down. My definition of easy meaning
[4:30] something I could do. I figure if it's something you
[4:35] can do, it's easy. Now here's a ( (.
[4:43] I worked hard at it. I found something I could do
[4:46] which was easy, but I worked hard at it.
[4:50] I got up early and stayed up late, worked hard that six
[4:52] years, but what I did was easy, meaning it was something I could
[4:58] do. You say, well, Mr. on If it was
[5:01] so easy, how come everybody else around you during that six
[5:04] years? How come they didn't get rich?
[5:05] Here's why it's easy not to. How else would you describe it?
[5:13] That's it. You say no, no, for all of the
[5:15] rest of them. It was hard for them and it was
[5:16] easy for you. That's not true.
[5:18] You couldn't debate me on that in front of this intelligent
[5:20] audience. But here's the challenge.
[5:26] Let me give it to you in the philosophical phrase.
[5:28] I tend to be a little philosophical.
[5:29] Here it is. The things that are easy to do
[5:33] are also easy not to do. That's the difference between
[5:38] success and failure. So you've got the choice here
[5:43] today of one of two Easys. Easy to or what?
[5:47] Easy not to. I can give you in one sentence
[5:49] how I got rich for the time I was 31.
[5:51] Here it is in one sentence. I did not neglect to do the easy
[5:55] things I could do every day for six years.
[5:57] Underline, I did not neglect. That's the key.
[6:04] I found something easy I could do that led to fortune and I did
[6:07] not neglect to do it. Major reason for not having
[6:12] everything you want in America. Major reason for not having more
[6:15] of what you want in America. More health, more money, more
[6:18] power, more influence, more everything.
[6:19] Major reason why you don't get it.
[6:21] Simple answer. Neglect.
[6:26] Neglect. And here's the problem with
[6:27] neglect. It starts as an infection and if
[6:30] you don't take care of it, it becomes a disease.
[6:34] And here's what else is the problem.
[6:35] One neglect leads to another. Neglect to do wise things with
[6:39] your money. You'll probably neglect to do
[6:41] wise things with your time. Neglect to do wise things with
[6:43] your time. You'll probably neglect to do
[6:45] wise things with your business. One leads to another leads to
[6:48] another. Pretty soon neglect has you by
[6:50] the throat, emptying your purse, emptying your heart, emptying
[6:53] all of your chances for equities and power and all the good
[6:56] things. Neglect.
[7:00] What if you should be walking around the block every day for
[7:02] your good health and you don't? I'm telling you you're on the
[7:05] wrong track. You should do it.
[7:07] You could do it. You don't do it.
[7:09] That's called formula for disaster.
[7:11] All you've got to do is let that and a few other things
[7:13] accumulate for six years, and now you're driving what you
[7:16] don't want to drive, wearing what you don't want to wear,
[7:18] living where you don't want to live, doing what you don't want
[7:21] to do, maybe having become what you really didn't want to
[7:24] become. I'm telling you, that's it.
[7:26] Just neglect along, drift along, and it's got you by the throat.
[7:30] It'll take all your values, leave you with just a little bit
[7:33] of dust in a summer wind, and it'll soon be gone.
[7:36] I hope I said that. Well, that's it.
[7:40] That's where I found myself at age 25 until my teacher came
[7:42] along and said, Mr. Owen, up till now you've messed up.
[7:45] Let's see if we can't clean that up.
[7:46] Change it. All I did changed my life.
[7:49] Not just the money, all the rest of the values that came pouring
[7:52] in when I understood that it was me, it was me.
[8:01] We intend to when the idea strikes us.
[8:03] We intend to when the emotion is high.
[8:05] But now, if you don't translate that into action fairly soon,
[8:07] now the intent starts to diminish, diminish, diminish.
[8:10] And a month from now, it's cold. Year from now can't be found.
[8:15] So act, set up a discipline. When the emotions are high and
[8:18] the idea is strong and clear and powerful, that's the time to set
[8:22] up the discipline. Somebody talks about good health
[8:25] and you're stirred, right? You need to get a book on
[8:28] nutrition. Get the book before the idea
[8:30] passes and before the emotion gets cold.
[8:34] Go for the book, start the library, start the process, fall
[8:37] on the floor, do some push ups. Action got to take action.
[8:43] Otherwise the wisdom is wasted. Otherwise the emotion soon
[8:46] passes unless you put it into a disciplined activity.
[8:49] Capture it. Disciplines is called how to
[8:52] capture the emotion and how to capture the wisdom and translate
[8:56] it into equity disciplines. Now here's what's important
[9:00] about discipline. All disciplines affect each
[9:02] other. In fact, here's a good
[9:06] philosophical phrase. Everything effects everything
[9:09] else. Nothing stands alone.
[9:14] Don't be naive in saying, well, this doesn't matter.
[9:16] I'm telling you everything matters.
[9:19] There are some things that matter more than others, but
[9:20] there isn't anything that doesn't matter.
[9:25] We all pity the man who says, well this is the only place I
[9:30] let down. Not true.
[9:33] Key to take home. Every let down affects the rest
[9:36] of your performance. Every let down affects the rest.
[9:41] This is part of the educational process on personal development.
[9:46] If you don't take the walk around the block, you probably
[9:48] won't do the apple a day. If you don't do the apple a day,
[9:51] you probably won't consist. You know, start building your
[9:53] library. You don't build your library.
[9:55] You probably won't keep a journal and you won't take
[9:56] pictures and you won't do this. You won't do wise things with
[9:58] your money, won't do wise things with your time, won't do wise
[10:01] things with your possibilities and relationships.
[10:03] And the first thing, you know, six years of that accumulated
[10:05] and we say you have messed up. So the whole key to reversing
[10:11] that process now is to start picking up these disciplines.
[10:14] Now, here's the positive side. Every new discipline affects the
[10:17] rest of your disciplines. Every new one affects the rest.
[10:22] That's why action is so important.
[10:23] The least action, the smallest action.
[10:26] Take it because when you start accomplishing and the value
[10:29] starts to return from that one action, it'll inspire you to do
[10:31] the next one and the next one and the next one.
[10:34] You start walking around the block.
[10:35] It'll inspire you to get an apple, Get an apple.
[10:37] It'll inspire you to get a book. Get a book.
[10:38] It'll inspire you to get a journal.
[10:40] Get a journal. It'll inspire you to grow,
[10:42] develop some skills. All disciplines affect each
[10:45] other. Every lack affects the rest.
[10:47] Every new affects the rest. The key is to diminish the lack
[10:52] and set up the new and you've started a whole new life process
[10:57] key. Also one more thought on
[11:02] discipline. Here's the greatest value of
[11:03] discipline, self worth, self esteem.
[11:09] People are teaching self esteem these days but they don't
[11:11] connect it to discipline the least.
[11:16] Lack of discipline and it starts to erode our psyche.
[11:21] One of the greatest temptations is to just ease up a little bit,
[11:27] right? The slightest lack of doing your
[11:30] best starts to erode. It's like instead of doing your
[11:35] best, doing just a little less than your best.
[11:36] Sure enough, you say, well, it's just going to affect my sales.
[11:39] No, it's going to affect your consciousness.
[11:42] It's going to affect your philosophy.
[11:44] Now you've begun in the slightest way to affect your own
[11:47] philosophy. Here's the problem with the
[11:51] least neglect. Neglect starts as an infection,
[11:55] and if you don't take care of it, it becomes a disease.
[11:57] And one neglect leads to another.
[12:02] And the worst of all, when neglect starts, it diminishes
[12:05] our self worth, our self-confidence, our self value.
[12:10] You say, well, how can I get back myself respect.
[12:12] I'm telling you, you don't have to go to 29 classes.
[12:15] All you have to do is start the smallest discipline that now
[12:18] corresponds to your own philosophy, like I should.
[12:22] And I could, and I will. No longer will I let neglect
[12:27] stack up on me so that I will have the sorry scenario six
[12:30] years from now, giving some excuse instead of celebrating my
[12:34] progress. That's the key to discipline.
