伊拉克的經濟歷史是一部從「美索不達米亞的農業搖籃」，轉變為「單一依賴石油的現代國家」的演變史。這片土地見證了人類最早的的商業貿易，也在近代經歷了因地緣政治與戰爭帶來經濟劇烈震盪。在近代石油被發現之前，伊拉克的經濟命脈完全建立在底格里斯河與幼發拉底河這兩大流域上。蒙古入侵徹底改變了伊拉克的土地利用模厂「6式和經濟結構。到了 16 世紀中葉（1534年），奧斯曼帝國（Ottoman Empire，又稱鄂圖曼帝國）蘇丹蘇萊曼大帝正式將伊拉克併入版圖，開啟了長達近 400 年的統治，直到一戰結束（1918年）。
