[1:53] Speaker 2: the Milwaukee Brewers... have never won the World Series. The
[1:57] Speaker 2: last time they were in the World Series was 44
[2:01] Speaker 2: years ago, 1982. And all the way back then, guess
[2:07] Speaker 2: who they faced in the World Series? The St. Louis Cardinals.
[2:10] Speaker 2: Podcast Pete even said before we pressed the record button,
[2:13] Speaker 2: the Brewers have technically never won the National League pennant.
[2:17] Speaker 2: And now they are a game away from going to
[2:21] Speaker 2: the World Series. I got a roundup style recap of
[2:26] Speaker 2: the game. But first, floor is yours.
[2:30] Speaker 1: I don't even know of a question.
[2:31] Speaker 2: How are you feeling? What'd you think? Are you shocked?
[2:35] Speaker 2: Are you not surprised because of how the Dodgers have played?
[2:37] Speaker 2: Where are you at?
[2:39] Speaker 1: I'm just so impressed with this Brewers team, man. It's just,
[2:43] Speaker 1: it's just been incredible to watch the way that they
[2:46] Speaker 1: rise to, to the occasion. It's seemingly in every single moment.
[2:49] Speaker 1: And like the, the one spot where you feel like, Oh, okay.
[2:52] Speaker 1: They might start to not even fade. Obviously they're in
[2:55] Speaker 1: the driver's seat, but it's like, okay, here come the Dodgers.
[2:57] Speaker 1: Like boom, back to back home. It's like, It just
[3:00] Speaker 1: felt like, and there haven't been many instances, but even
[3:03] Speaker 1: in the small, small instance where maybe the Dodgers could
[3:07] Speaker 1: be climbing back into it, it just seems like the
[3:09] Speaker 1: Brewers just stiff-armed them and just continue to do what
[3:13] Speaker 1: they are doing. They've just been in total control the
[3:15] Speaker 1: entire series, and really for much of this postseason, they
[3:20] Speaker 1: are showing that they were, not always the best regular
[3:23] Speaker 1: season team is the best postseason team, but they have
[3:26] Speaker 1: just continued to show that.
[3:28] Speaker 2: They have beat the shit out of the Dodgers point blank, right?
[3:34] Speaker 2: Because again, I go back to game one, Jacob Mizorowski
[3:36] Speaker 2: didn't have his best stuff. He admitted it afterwards. Doesn't
[3:39] Speaker 2: matter to one to one. Then the next game, the
[3:43] Speaker 2: only reason the Dodgers really scored was because of errors, right?
[3:47] Speaker 2: Three of the four runs scored in that game were unearned.
[3:51] Speaker 2: And then in this one, Will Smith hits that big
[3:54] Speaker 2: time double. How did they get on? Three walks. How
[3:58] Speaker 2: are the brewers doing it? They're doing it via the homer.
[4:00] Speaker 2: They're manufacturing runs. They put up the best ABs in
[4:05] Speaker 2: huge spots. In meaningless spots, you still get great ABs.
[4:09] Speaker 2: And you're getting production throughout the lineup. Cooper Pratt, he
[4:13] Speaker 2: was the guy with three hits today. He was the
[4:16] Speaker 2: guy that stole a base that led to Joey Ortiz
[4:18] Speaker 2: getting that sixth run. Again, Joey Ortiz at the bottom
[4:21] Speaker 2: of the lineup. This is what made the Dodgers great
[4:24] Speaker 2: kind of in these runs is that, you know, it
[4:26] Speaker 2: doesn't have to be Otani or Mookie or Freddie at
[4:29] Speaker 2: the top. It could be Miguel Rojas hitting the big
[4:31] Speaker 2: home run. It could be Will Smith. It could be
[4:33] Speaker 2: Tommy Edmond winning an NLCS MVP. It could be Kike Hernandez.
[4:37] Speaker 2: It could be Andy Pahez in a big spot. That's
[4:39] Speaker 2: what made them great. And the Brewers are doing it
[4:41] Speaker 2: to the nth degree where they just have unbelievable pitching.
[4:45] Speaker 2: And as soon as you give them a lead, like
[4:48] Speaker 2: John Smoltz, he was almost waiting. How many times did
[4:51] Speaker 2: he say, you can't let the Brewers get a lead?
[4:53] Speaker 2: You can't let the Brewers get a lead. He was
[4:54] Speaker 2: saying it every inning. He was just waiting for the Brewers'
[4:57] Speaker 2: inevitable lead for their bullpen to shut it down. D.L. Hall, dude.
[5:03] Speaker 2: I mean, he's what, the sixth person you think about?
[5:07] Speaker 2: When you think Brewers bullpen and he looks, he's thrown
[5:10] Speaker 2: this 90 mile an hour sweeper. I don't blame some
[5:14] Speaker 2: of the Dodgers for flailing at it. Even at their best,
[5:17] Speaker 2: would they be able to hit that pitch? This whole team, man, it's,
[5:21] Speaker 2: I'm about to lose so much money and you still
[5:24] Speaker 2: see me smiling because it's like, I'm watching something where
[5:28] Speaker 2: if I were to lose all this money on this bet,
[5:30] Speaker 2: tip my cap, better team all around.
[5:34] Speaker 1: D.O. Hall specifically is just another example in this game
[5:38] Speaker 1: I think you can look at several of these games
[5:41] Speaker 1: where maybe one guy I mean we've seen pretty perfect
[5:45] Speaker 1: bullpens as well I mean when you look at the
[5:48] Speaker 1: way that they've passed the baton in the, in the
[5:50] Speaker 1: last game. It was, it was ridiculous. But if one
[5:53] Speaker 1: guy sort of hits a snag out of the pen,
[5:55] Speaker 1: you just have so much confidence that the next arm
[5:57] Speaker 1: that the Brewers go to is going to be able
[6:00] Speaker 1: to clean up the mess. And that's exactly what DL
[6:03] Speaker 1: Hall does. And he doesn't just do that. He ends
[6:04] Speaker 1: up giving them two and a third, but like Abner
[6:07] Speaker 1: Uribe walks, walks three, looks really shaky. I think you were,
[6:11] Speaker 1: you were looking at Pat Murphy, like getting really frustrated saying, okay,
[6:14] Speaker 1: I got to go get him. And he goes and
[6:16] Speaker 1: gets him. And also he, kind of forces the uh
[6:20] Speaker 1: the dodgers and dave roberts to use a lot of
[6:23] Speaker 1: the bench they burn host way to paula uh to
[6:25] Speaker 1: get to hall and then you know end up going
[6:27] Speaker 1: back to the righty uh off the bench so you
[6:30] Speaker 1: don't even get to get an ab from to paula
[6:32] Speaker 1: i don't think it ultimately would have mattered because it
[6:34] Speaker 1: just really started to get a little bit out of
[6:35] Speaker 1: hand and that was probably the best spot with how
[6:38] Speaker 1: hard it's been to score runs for the dodgers uh
[6:40] Speaker 1: there was probably where robert said let's Let's just go
[6:42] Speaker 1: all out and try to put whatever hitter in the
[6:44] Speaker 1: best position humanly possible to come through here. But it
[6:47] Speaker 1: didn't really matter because DL Hall was just so sharp.
[6:51] Speaker 1: It's all about strikes for him. You know, the walk
[6:53] Speaker 1: rate was high throughout the year, but the strikeout rate
[6:55] Speaker 1: is always high. This stuff is ridiculous. And when he's
[6:58] Speaker 1: around the zone, like we saw just how dominant he
[7:00] Speaker 1: can be, 230 doesn't walk anybody. And right on the
[7:02] Speaker 1: heels were like, especially if you're a command, a guy
[7:05] Speaker 1: that struggles with command and you're following a guy that
[7:08] Speaker 1: just walked three and Imagine you could be feeling that
[7:11] Speaker 1: pressure a little bit. You're on the road. Didn't affect
[7:14] Speaker 1: DL Hall. And it just seems to be the story
[7:16] Speaker 1: with this whole team, whether it's the lineup, whether it's
[7:19] Speaker 1: the bullpen, they seem to pass the baton. Or if somebody,
[7:22] Speaker 1: you know, kind of didn't come up big or left
[7:25] Speaker 1: them in a bad spot, the next guy seems to.
[7:27] Speaker 2: Pick them up. Picking them up. And that's the definition
[7:30] Speaker 2: of the Brewers. Let's recap the game and then let's
[7:32] Speaker 2: keep talking about it. So again, This game started with
[7:36] Speaker 2: a bang. I don't even think Joe Davis was ready
[7:38] Speaker 2: for this one. On the first pitch of the game,
[7:41] Speaker 2: Jackson Chorio goes oppo taco to give Milwaukee a 1-0
[7:45] Speaker 2: lead to just set the tone here. Because everybody and
[7:48] Speaker 2: their mother, including us yesterday, I even said, I don't
[7:52] Speaker 2: know why I'm picking the Dodgers. They have done nothing
[7:55] Speaker 2: to prove it, but there's just no way to go
[7:57] Speaker 2: down 3-0. And as soon as he hit that home run,
[7:59] Speaker 2: I go and I think to myself, there is absolutely
[8:02] Speaker 2: a way the Dodgers go down 3-0. And then... Watching
[8:06] Speaker 2: Robert Gasser, a.k.a. Bobby Diesel. Shout out our Discord. Let
[8:11] Speaker 2: me know that's his nickname. What a nickname. Bobby Diesel,
[8:13] Speaker 2: are you kidding me? Put the Dodgers in his back pocket.
[8:16] Speaker 2: Five shutout innings. Pounded the zone. Dared the Dodgers to
[8:20] Speaker 2: beat him. And he won. Then in the sixth, Dodgers
[8:23] Speaker 2: loaded the bases on walks. And Will Smith comes through
[8:26] Speaker 2: with a double off the wall to take a 2-1 lead.
[8:29] Speaker 2: And I think all of us were asking, why is
[8:32] Speaker 2: Abner Uribe still in? Well, it didn't end up really mattering.
[8:37] Speaker 2: But just another stat for you. Dodgers were hitting 069
[8:42] Speaker 2: with runners in scoring position before that double. But as
[8:44] Speaker 2: soon as he exits, Abner Uribe, that is, D.L. Hall
[8:48] Speaker 2: comes in, strikes out Kike, strikes out Tommy Edmond. And
[8:53] Speaker 2: like you said earlier, Dave Roberts burned Josue DiPaola in
[8:56] Speaker 2: the process, taking him off the on-deck circle. And the
[9:00] Speaker 2: Dodgers had a lead for maybe 30 seconds. There's a
[9:03] Speaker 2: walk from Andrew Vaughn to start the top of the seventh.
[9:06] Speaker 2: Incredible AB from Bowers that I want to talk about later.
[9:11] Speaker 2: That leads to the nuke. Two-run shot for Jake Bowers.
[9:15] Speaker 2: Then Garrett Mitchell homers. 4-2 Milwaukee. Then in the eighth,
[9:19] Speaker 2: runners on first and third. Robleski bounces one. And Terang
[9:22] Speaker 2: scampers home for the Brewers' fifth run. But they weren't done.
[9:26] Speaker 2: They weren't done putting belt to ass. In the ninth,
[9:30] Speaker 2: Joey Ortiz singles home Cooper Pratt. Again, after Pratt stole
[9:33] Speaker 2: a base, 6-2 Brewers, 3-0 lead, one game from reaching
[9:40] Speaker 2: the World Series. And then you got to win four more,
[9:43] Speaker 2: and the Brewers could end up winning the first World
[9:46] Speaker 2: Series in their franchise's history arm.
[9:50] Speaker 1: And we'll see. Of course, a lot of things still
[9:53] Speaker 1: have to happen. But this team is set up to
[9:56] Speaker 1: be good for a while. And I think that's the
[9:59] Speaker 1: fun part is you're seeing, obviously they were phenomenal last year.
[10:02] Speaker 1: It was really good season. You ran into the Dodgers,
[10:05] Speaker 1: you swept them. Now you have a chance to just
[10:07] Speaker 1: flip the script and sweep them. Like that's the other,
[10:09] Speaker 1: I don't, we were talking about it when we previewed
[10:13] Speaker 1: this series and maybe what we got became a little
[10:16] Speaker 1: bit too guilty of was diving into what happened last
[10:20] Speaker 1: year and we discussed like where the teams are different
[10:22] Speaker 1: and everything but nobody we had varying opinions on how
[10:27] Speaker 1: different both teams are from last season but nobody said
[10:31] Speaker 1: eight games different right no one thought that the team
[10:33] Speaker 1: that got swept was going to return the favor and
[10:35] Speaker 1: potentially sweep the other way like that is such a
[10:38] Speaker 1: ginormous swing and no matter what you say that isn't
[10:43] Speaker 1: a difference in the teams here in terms of like
[10:45] Speaker 1: there's not eight game difference in talent shift between these
[10:49] Speaker 1: two teams. I think it just shows you again.
[10:52] Speaker 2: Yes.
[10:52] Speaker 1: A little bit of talent shifts.
[10:53] Speaker 2: Yes.
[10:54] Speaker 1: Some of the Dodgers guys are just not performing. Otani's
[10:56] Speaker 1: clearly hurt. We've talked about it. I think Freddie Freeman
[10:58] Speaker 1: is really feeling just the length of these last few seasons.
[11:01] Speaker 1: I think Mookie bets. He finished a year really strong.
[11:04] Speaker 1: He finished a year really strong last year and had
[11:05] Speaker 1: kind of an iffy post season. He's not the guy
[11:08] Speaker 1: that he once was. And I think you're just seeing
[11:11] Speaker 1: a lot of these Dodgers players feel it a little
[11:13] Speaker 1: bit after this long run. And then you pair that
[11:15] Speaker 1: with a Brewers team that learned a lot from last
[11:17] Speaker 1: year that is getting stronger as it goes. A lot
[11:20] Speaker 1: of young guys here that are, I think, just rising
[11:24] Speaker 1: to the occasion. And that dichotomy is just really furthering
[11:27] Speaker 1: the gap here. And then you just have a Brewers
[11:29] Speaker 1: team that's just also really hot. But I do think
[11:32] Speaker 1: it's this team that's getting stronger with every game against
[11:35] Speaker 1: a team that looks like it's just almost coming to
[11:38] Speaker 1: a stop and falling apart with every game. And that's
[11:42] Speaker 1: where you just see this series just continuing to widen.
[11:44] Speaker 2: Wiltering. Couldn't put it better myself. And if we're talking
[11:47] Speaker 2: about analysis from the beginning, when we previewed this series,
[11:52] Speaker 2: nobody was more wrong than me on this whole show. Nobody.
[11:56] Speaker 2: I think I picked Dodgers in five. And going back
[11:59] Speaker 2: to kind of what you said about comparing teams going
[12:01] Speaker 2: back to last year, I was certainly guilty of that.
[12:04] Speaker 2: And my main thesis was... the Brewers are better than
[12:09] Speaker 2: they were last year. No doubt about it. I did
[12:11] Speaker 2: say that, but at the same time I said, well,
[12:14] Speaker 2: the Dodgers are better. Like this Dodgers team has Tarek Scooble.
[12:18] Speaker 2: and Yamamoto and Blake Snell and Tyler Glass. Now this
[12:22] Speaker 2: Dodgers team has now a Kyle Tucker in the lineup
[12:25] Speaker 2: who has put together some good at bats, but I
[12:28] Speaker 2: feel like we're gravitating towards him just because he's the
[12:31] Speaker 2: only one that doesn't look like lifeless pretty much. I mean,
[12:34] Speaker 2: Mookie's putting together some good at bats. I want to
[12:36] Speaker 2: give him credit. Like Freddie is lining out. I mean,
[12:39] Speaker 2: what can you kind of do there? Shohei Otani finally
[12:41] Speaker 2: had what his first signal and all of us are like, wow,
[12:44] Speaker 2: he's so back. And at the end of the day, like,
[12:46] Speaker 2: you know, but, regardless, regardless of all of it, I
[12:51] Speaker 2: have been just dead wrong on this. And that's why, again,
[12:56] Speaker 2: I've made these videos about the brewers. I'm starting to
[12:58] Speaker 2: get excited about them because it's like, when I'm dead wrong,
[13:00] Speaker 2: when I get new information, my opinion will change. And
[13:03] Speaker 2: the brewers have absolutely changed my opinion. You know, all
[13:07] Speaker 2: the credit goes to them. But again, this from our
[13:09] Speaker 2: Twitter account, Shohei Otani hit this ball, 113.5 miles an hour.
[13:13] Speaker 2: That's his first batted ball of 110 plus yards. since
[13:18] Speaker 2: August 21st. Hey, we got it.
[13:20] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[13:21] Speaker 1: Nice to see. And it was like the first swing
[13:24] Speaker 1: where you're like, there he is. And they're going to
[13:26] Speaker 1: need several more of those swings in the next ball
[13:29] Speaker 1: game to try to jolt this offense here. But tying
[13:32] Speaker 1: back to the other, another point when we're comparing where
[13:36] Speaker 1: these teams were from last year to this year, Jake
[13:38] Speaker 1: Bowers had a solid year last year. It was his
[13:41] Speaker 1: first year where he was an above league average hitter.
[13:44] Speaker 1: But as it's been well-documented, you know, going into last
[13:48] Speaker 1: year and just a discussion of like, he, he literally
[13:50] Speaker 1: almost retired. But aside from that, if you compare what
[13:56] Speaker 1: Bowers was last year to this year, they literally added
[13:58] Speaker 1: an all-star caliber bat. Jake Bowers last year in 86
[14:02] Speaker 1: games was two 35 hitter with a one 15 WRC
[14:06] Speaker 1: plus he had seven homers Jake Bowers this year in
[14:08] Speaker 1: 144 games and 578 plate appearances in hit 266, 389, 484,
[14:14] Speaker 1: good for a 143 WRC plus, 26 homers walk 16%
[14:19] Speaker 1: of the time, and also mashed lefties. And that part
[14:22] Speaker 1: really stands out to me too. So from within, I mean,
[14:26] Speaker 1: they went from like a solid, like looks like bulk
[14:29] Speaker 1: platoon bat to a legitimate all-star. And that's what has
[14:33] Speaker 1: been so, so impressive with Bowers. And I think it's
[14:37] Speaker 1: been a huge difference maker. And then, of course, you
[14:39] Speaker 1: didn't know that he would have these defining at-bats, but
[14:42] Speaker 1: that's who this guy has become this year. He is
[14:44] Speaker 1: a middle-of-the-order, stalwart anchor that... I think that gets forgotten.
[14:49] Speaker 1: Like a 143 WRC plus over almost 600 plate appearance
[14:52] Speaker 1: sample is ridiculously good stuff. But the name, like we
[14:56] Speaker 1: just don't think of Jake Bowers, like a Freddie Freeman,
[14:58] Speaker 1: but he was more productive than Freddie Freeman in some
[15:01] Speaker 1: ways this year. So I think that's the part that's
[15:03] Speaker 1: really shine through. And I mean, Bowers has had two
[15:06] Speaker 1: of the most defining at bats in this series. And
[15:09] Speaker 1: I think it's completely turned the series on its head.
[15:12] Speaker 1: I mean, who knows how much longer Yamamoto potentially goes
[15:15] Speaker 1: if he doesn't grind him out for what was it
[15:18] Speaker 1: 12 13 pitches and set the table for Yellich for
[15:20] Speaker 1: the two RBI you know knock and in this one
[15:24] Speaker 1: who knows if Bowers doesn't grind out that at bat
[15:27] Speaker 1: against Snell and launch the two-run homer like I know
[15:30] Speaker 1: we could Monday morning quarterback it and say oh why
[15:33] Speaker 1: was Snell still in there you had back-to-back lefties who
[15:35] Speaker 1: didn't look particularly great against Snell Snell doesn't give up
[15:39] Speaker 1: damage to lefties I don't think he's ever given up
[15:41] Speaker 1: back-to-back homers to lefties I get it. I get it.
[15:44] Speaker 1: I know third time through, blah, blah, blah. Snell has
[15:46] Speaker 1: the stuff to be able to do that, and especially
[15:48] Speaker 1: left on left. Didn't work because Bowers goes deep with
[15:52] Speaker 1: a two-run shot, and then Garrett Mitchell follows. But again,
[15:56] Speaker 1: I think win probability added, I don't have it in
[15:58] Speaker 1: front of me, but in my mind, in my own
[16:00] Speaker 1: win probability stat, Bowers, I think, has to be the
[16:04] Speaker 1: biggest game changer in this series.
[16:07] Speaker 2: Yeah, let me break that down even further because I
[16:08] Speaker 2: had something prepared on Jake Bowers. I mean... Jake freaking Bowers,
[16:13] Speaker 2: two of the best at-bats in the entire postseason in
[16:16] Speaker 2: back-to-back games. Again, game two, he's facing Yamamoto and turns
[16:21] Speaker 2: it into a 12-pitch war that ends in a walk.
[16:24] Speaker 2: And by the end of it, Yamamoto is just gassed.
[16:27] Speaker 2: And guess what happens next? Hangs one to Jelic, and
[16:30] Speaker 2: Jelic makes him pay with that go-ahead hit. And I
[16:33] Speaker 2: ask yourself without that Bowers at bat, does Yamamoto hang
[16:36] Speaker 2: that pitch? I don't think so. And then tonight does
[16:39] Speaker 2: it again, two strikes fouling off five different pitches, spitting
[16:43] Speaker 2: on pitches outside the zone, just refusing to go away.
[16:46] Speaker 2: Then on the 11th pitch of the AB crushes a
[16:49] Speaker 2: two run homer to put Milwaukee in front. And you
[16:51] Speaker 2: can draw a straight line from that at bat to
[16:54] Speaker 2: what came next because Snell worn down, likely rattled after
[16:59] Speaker 2: blowing that lead hangs a change up to Garrett Mitchell
[17:02] Speaker 2: and And Mitchell sends it into the bleachers for two
[17:05] Speaker 2: brewers and arm. Marlins outfielder Griffin Conine said it on
[17:09] Speaker 2: our show earlier today, and he nailed it. These at-bats
[17:14] Speaker 2: are the Brewers. They never give in. They never stop fighting.
[17:18] Speaker 2: Look at what John Smoltz said on the broadcast. The
[17:21] Speaker 2: last four times the Dodgers have scored to take the lead,
[17:25] Speaker 2: the Brewers have answered in the very next half inning.
[17:29] Speaker 2: Every single time. That's the definition of relentless. And again,
[17:34] Speaker 2: now Milwaukee is up 3-0 on the so-called juggernaut Dodgers. Yeah. Yeah.
[17:40] Speaker 1: And I think the driving up the pitch count part
[17:43] Speaker 1: is so impressive. And that was where it was fun
[17:45] Speaker 1: to talk about it with Griff today, earlier today, was
[17:47] Speaker 1: I was just like, dude, how does somebody do that? Like,
[17:50] Speaker 1: how does somebody cover 98 up and in and then 92,
[17:54] Speaker 1: you know, split her down in a way and his
[17:56] Speaker 1: way of breaking it down and how he was able
[17:59] Speaker 1: to do that and not at bat was really fascinating.
[18:00] Speaker 1: Definitely check out. episode with griff that's already out um
[18:04] Speaker 1: on audio and on youtube it's great on youtube because
[18:06] Speaker 1: you can actually watch along to on some of the
[18:08] Speaker 1: video but i think with with a guy that's that
[18:11] Speaker 1: dialed right now he's able to kind of play in
[18:14] Speaker 1: between and usually we'll say guys are in between as
[18:17] Speaker 1: as a bad thing right where it's like oh he's
[18:19] Speaker 1: late on the fastball and he's early on the secondary
[18:21] Speaker 1: stuff but i i think for a guy like bowers
[18:24] Speaker 1: right now like in his advantage counts he's gonna let
[18:26] Speaker 1: it eat and i think three two there he he
[18:27] Speaker 1: felt good about what he was gonna see but And
[18:30] Speaker 1: that Yamamoto at bat, like I think he was just
[18:31] Speaker 1: in a battle mode where he felt like he could
[18:34] Speaker 1: see the fastball get deep and still spoil it. But
[18:37] Speaker 1: also be able to, because of that backing up the fastball,
[18:40] Speaker 1: be able to still stay back long enough to spoil splitters.
[18:43] Speaker 1: And is he going to maybe put himself in a
[18:45] Speaker 1: position in that Yamamoto at bat to hit a homer?
[18:48] Speaker 1: I don't know, but he put himself in a position
[18:49] Speaker 1: to grind out the AB and maybe find a knock.
[18:51] Speaker 1: And that's ultimately what he did in terms of drawing
[18:53] Speaker 1: the walk in this at bat against now. Saw a
[18:56] Speaker 1: lot of pitches, but still put himself in a position
[18:59] Speaker 1: where I think he could put off that A swing
[19:01] Speaker 1: a little bit more. And just seeing that malleability from
[19:04] Speaker 1: him as a hitter and the development. This is why
[19:07] Speaker 1: baseball is amazing, is a guy that almost retired before
[19:12] Speaker 1: the 2025 season. And that story has been well documented
[19:15] Speaker 1: at this point, but because he's just retired. been frustrating,
[19:18] Speaker 1: you know, and, and, and not met his expectations and
[19:20] Speaker 1: struck out 34% of the time that year. And a
[19:23] Speaker 1: pretty decent sized sample where at that point, he's like,
[19:25] Speaker 1: I just don't know if it's ever going to happen
[19:26] Speaker 1: for me. I like at that point, he'd had well
[19:28] Speaker 1: over a thousand plate appearances in the show and just
[19:31] Speaker 1: was like a career 80 something WRC plus and struck
[19:33] Speaker 1: out 30 something percent of the time that same guy
[19:37] Speaker 1: two years later can be one of the better hitters
[19:39] Speaker 1: in the game and can head into free agency is
[19:42] Speaker 1: one of the more intriguing bats. Uh, and can be
[19:44] Speaker 1: a postseason performer for a team that looks like they
[19:46] Speaker 1: have a good chance to potentially win the world series
[19:49] Speaker 1: with him being a huge reason why. I don't know
[19:52] Speaker 1: what other sport gives you that and what other sport
[19:54] Speaker 1: can have a 31 year old, you know, find that
[19:57] Speaker 1: at this stage. And that's why I love this sport.
[20:01] Speaker 1: I love the fact that certain players can break out
[20:04] Speaker 1: like this and also teams like the Brewers can identify
[20:08] Speaker 1: and help develop players like this as well.
[20:10] Speaker 2: And speaking of that development, four years younger, but how
[20:14] Speaker 2: about Robert Gasser, a.k.a. Bobby Diesel, and what he's been
[20:18] Speaker 2: able to do? Because he came up two years ago,
[20:21] Speaker 2: had a cup of coffee, 28 innings, pitched well, but
[20:24] Speaker 2: it was just such a short sample. And then what,
[20:26] Speaker 2: in 2025, he threw five and two-thirds in two different starts.
[20:33] Speaker 2: He only went a couple of innings, didn't give the
[20:35] Speaker 2: Brewers much. And at 27 years old, you're kind of wondering–
[20:39] Speaker 2: what is Robert Gasser going to give us? And what
[20:43] Speaker 2: did he give the Brewers this season? 20 starts at
[20:45] Speaker 2: a three, eight ERA. And then he's coming in the
[20:48] Speaker 2: post season. It just been nails. And I love the
[20:50] Speaker 2: way that he was just challenging these Dodgers hitters, because again,
[20:56] Speaker 2: he was hitting the corners against the good bats in
[20:58] Speaker 2: the lineup. Like he, he was making excellent pitches to
[21:01] Speaker 2: guys like Mookie and Freddie and guys like that. But
[21:05] Speaker 2: against the guys who were struggling in the Dodgers lineup,
[21:08] Speaker 2: he wasn't trying to be cute. He was going after them.
[21:12] Speaker 2: He was throwing some pitches in the middle of his own,
[21:14] Speaker 2: even when he'd go down like two Oh, he would
[21:17] Speaker 2: fire right back in with that sinker. And it was
[21:19] Speaker 2: just working again, only give up three hits tonight. The
[21:22] Speaker 2: strikeouts weren't really there, but it didn't look like that
[21:25] Speaker 2: was his game plan. He was like, I'm going to
[21:28] Speaker 2: throw it in the middle of the zone. I'm not
[21:29] Speaker 2: trying to get you to strike out. I am trying
[21:32] Speaker 2: to get through innings quickly. That is my job here today.
[21:35] Speaker 2: And I don't think you're good enough to hit myself.
[21:38] Speaker 2: That was the vibe I was getting off from him.
[21:40] Speaker 2: Just a confidence on the mound. and delivering pitches right
[21:45] Speaker 2: in the middle of the zone and daring the Dodgers
[21:46] Speaker 2: to hit it.
[21:47] Speaker 1: Yeah Gasser underwent Tommy John in in the middle of
[21:51] Speaker 1: 24 and that wiped out you know a lot of
[21:55] Speaker 1: of 25 as well and I was excited when he
[21:57] Speaker 1: got called up in 24 because he was always a
[22:00] Speaker 1: prospect that I just thought could be funky enough work
[22:03] Speaker 1: east-west unique angle to make it work but the stuff
[22:07] Speaker 1: you wondered like velo wise was it totally going to
[22:09] Speaker 1: be there and then He came back from TJ later
[22:12] Speaker 1: in twenty five and the stuff started to tick up.
[22:16] Speaker 1: And the further removed he's been from that, you've seen
[22:18] Speaker 1: the stuff just continue to look better and better and better.
[22:21] Speaker 1: And with that, the strike throwing continue to improve. And
[22:24] Speaker 1: I felt like he had to finally that full offseason
[22:28] Speaker 1: headed into twenty twenty six and just looks like a
[22:30] Speaker 1: much more complete picture. And looked like he had that
[22:33] Speaker 1: well-rounded arsenal with the feel for all of it that
[22:36] Speaker 1: has really shined through, that really plays up from that
[22:38] Speaker 1: horizontal angle. So you've got the slider and you've got
[22:41] Speaker 1: the sinker and the way that those can work off
[22:43] Speaker 1: of each other, you know, in opposite directions. But still
[22:45] Speaker 1: being able to buzz the foreseamer up, the cutter to
[22:47] Speaker 1: bridge and the changeup, like it's a really well-rounded mix now.
[22:49] Speaker 1: And his development's been really fun to watch. But that
[22:52] Speaker 1: is another example, though, of a guy that came out
[22:54] Speaker 1: of the Tommy John surgery once he got his feet
[22:57] Speaker 1: under him. looked even better than he looked from before
[22:59] Speaker 1: the surgery. And so Gaster's a guy that's going to
[23:01] Speaker 1: be a big piece for them moving forward. I think,
[23:03] Speaker 1: you know, even if it's in more towards the back
[23:05] Speaker 1: of the rotation, he's still a pretty hard guy. He's
[23:07] Speaker 1: 27 years old. He's now getting this experience on the
[23:09] Speaker 1: big stage. And I think with the stuff, just below wise,
[23:13] Speaker 1: ticking up a little bit, that was all he really needed. And,
[23:15] Speaker 1: you know, it looks like he could be a really
[23:17] Speaker 1: exciting piece to just continue to bolster the controllable aspect
[23:21] Speaker 1: of this Brewers team and why they're probably not going
[23:23] Speaker 1: to go anywhere anytime soon.
[23:25] Speaker 2: And look at this from OptiStats, the podcast Pete just
[23:28] Speaker 2: put on the screen here live on YouTube. First of all,
[23:31] Speaker 2: thank you to everybody joining us live here on YouTube. Again,
[23:33] Speaker 2: the best way to support these shows where we go
[23:35] Speaker 2: live every single day after all the games are over
[23:39] Speaker 2: is just by simply liking, this video hitting that subscribe
[23:42] Speaker 2: button and keeping the comment section flowing and for all
[23:45] Speaker 2: the audio folks a five-star review would be very very
[23:48] Speaker 2: appreciated going back to this tweet the podcast p put
[23:51] Speaker 2: up from opti stats robert gasser is the first rookie
[23:56] Speaker 2: in mlb history with a scoreless start in the postseason
[24:00] Speaker 2: against the defending champs that is pretty damn cool now
[24:05] Speaker 2: aram we've spent about 25 minutes on the brewers and
[24:08] Speaker 2: i think we could spend even more time on them
[24:10] Speaker 2: but You know, we'd be remiss if we didn't talk
[24:13] Speaker 2: about the Dodgers, just failure to put anything really together.
[24:18] Speaker 2: Dave Roberts, not a good game as manager in this
[24:21] Speaker 2: one as well, right? I don't think it's horrific. You know,
[24:26] Speaker 2: it's hard to manage when none of your guys in
[24:28] Speaker 2: the lineup are doing anything, right? So it's going to
[24:31] Speaker 2: make every decision you make look worse because nobody's doing anything.
[24:36] Speaker 2: And some of the at-bats are... were so so bad
[24:43] Speaker 2: i mean in the third inning i even wrote this
[24:45] Speaker 2: one down and i wrote down a bunch of bad
[24:47] Speaker 2: abs that the dodgers had tonight in the third inning
[24:50] Speaker 2: tasker is facing robert gasser and gasser two uncompetitive sweepers
[24:55] Speaker 2: not even close to the zone two up right then
[25:00] Speaker 2: he swings at a sinker that was never a strike
[25:04] Speaker 2: for strike one like chasing two oh sinkers what And
[25:10] Speaker 2: then 2-1, it's a sinker below the zone, probably not
[25:15] Speaker 2: the pitch that you're pigeonholing 2-1 in a hitter's count
[25:18] Speaker 2: or in that 2-0 count for that matter. And then
[25:22] Speaker 2: he has like this two strike style swing where he's
[25:25] Speaker 2: like fighting a pitch off. and then grounds out to,
[25:29] Speaker 2: I think it was maybe the end of the inning.
[25:31] Speaker 2: In the second inning, also Andy Pahas flied weakly to
[25:34] Speaker 2: right without seeing a strike in the zone, swung at
[25:37] Speaker 2: five balls. There was this 2-1 pitch to Will Smith,
[25:41] Speaker 2: sinker away that was never a strike, fly out. Fourth inning, again,
[25:45] Speaker 2: not a bad at bat, I guess, per se, but
[25:48] Speaker 2: Gasser just threw four sinkers away in the same exact
[25:52] Speaker 2: spot to Will Smith, and he struck out. Just the
[25:55] Speaker 2: same spot. Just spammed sinkers outside. That's it. Struck out.
[26:01] Speaker 2: And the one time he threw a sweeper, it looked
[26:03] Speaker 2: like Will Smith's knees buckled. I was like, are you good?
[26:08] Speaker 2: Will Smith, of course, he made up for it with
[26:10] Speaker 2: that double. And then fifth inning, I just wrote down
[26:12] Speaker 2: some hater notes. Hey, Tommy Edmund, maybe mix in a bunt.
[26:16] Speaker 2: Maybe that's too mean, but first pitch swing, fly out
[26:18] Speaker 2: to center field isn't doing anything. I wrote in the
[26:20] Speaker 2: sixth inning of Muncie just keeps his bat on his shoulders.
[26:23] Speaker 2: He walks. I saw one strike in the zone. He's chasing.
[26:29] Speaker 2: What are you doing? And that's why it's like, how
[26:33] Speaker 2: can I be mad about my bet? I didn't bet
[26:35] Speaker 2: on this team. This is not the Dodgers, but that
[26:40] Speaker 2: is a testament to the Brewers, making them feel uncomfortable,
[26:43] Speaker 2: rattling them every time, knowing as soon as they take
[26:46] Speaker 2: a lead, again, like Smoltz said on the broadcast, the
[26:49] Speaker 2: Brewers are going to get the lead immediately after that,
[26:52] Speaker 2: the next half inning. They're beating the shit out of them.
[26:57] Speaker 2: They're putting you out to ask. Yeah.
[27:00] Speaker 1: You get two runs on the on the home half
[27:02] Speaker 1: of the sixth, immediately three and the top of the seventh.
[27:06] Speaker 1: There's so many specific instances, like you mentioned, with them
[27:08] Speaker 1: giving away at bats. And, you know, I think a
[27:11] Speaker 1: big part of that is the the quality of of
[27:14] Speaker 1: the Brewers pitching. But I mean, look, Robert Gasser was awesome.
[27:17] Speaker 1: I think Robert Gasser has really improved this year and is,
[27:20] Speaker 1: as I said, going to be a good piece for them.
[27:22] Speaker 1: They knocked Chris Sale around, and I know that Chris
[27:26] Speaker 1: Sale was maybe not at 100% after the short rest
[27:29] Speaker 1: and whatever, but he was still sitting upper 90s. Robert
[27:32] Speaker 1: Gasser is a funky lefty that works well east-west. Chris
[27:36] Speaker 1: Sale is the funky lefty that works well east-west and north-south.
[27:40] Speaker 1: And they got him out and they wore him down.
[27:42] Speaker 1: So it just feels like all of them, all of
[27:45] Speaker 1: these bats went cold at the same time. Part of
[27:47] Speaker 1: the reason why I thought the Dodgers would win this
[27:49] Speaker 1: in seven was that performance against sale. The way I
[27:52] Speaker 1: started to see those bats pick up and I'm like,
[27:54] Speaker 1: here they go again. They're going to lock in and
[27:56] Speaker 1: kind of get into the position, you know, that you
[27:59] Speaker 1: get used to seeing from them. But it was the
[28:02] Speaker 1: complete opposite. And again, it's credit to these Brewers pitchers
[28:06] Speaker 1: and the way that they've executed. But I think you've
[28:08] Speaker 1: also really seen it mount on, on these Dodgers hitters.
[28:11] Speaker 1: And to the point of Dave Roberts, like, I think
[28:13] Speaker 1: that's why he's over-managing a little bit. Is he feels
[28:16] Speaker 1: like he has to, like, he has to try to
[28:18] Speaker 1: do something because if he does it, he's just going
[28:20] Speaker 1: to watch his team with their way and die. So
[28:22] Speaker 1: he's trying to, okay, I'm going to burn to Paul
[28:24] Speaker 1: and then get Kiki against the lefty and, you know,
[28:26] Speaker 1: try to just push all the chips forward in the sixth. Like,
[28:30] Speaker 1: because this might be our best chance. Like I get
[28:33] Speaker 1: it in Robert's perspective because I mean, what else can
[28:37] Speaker 1: he do? He's just sitting and watching his team fold.
[28:40] Speaker 1: And it's, it's really, it's one of those difficult, we
[28:44] Speaker 1: do it on the roundup all the time, right? Where
[28:46] Speaker 1: it's like, is this more, you know, a team playing
[28:49] Speaker 1: well or B team playing bad. And I think this
[28:52] Speaker 1: is the most, like the best example we've had of
[28:55] Speaker 1: both at the same time as we've had in a
[28:57] Speaker 1: long time where it's, this is the best team in baseball,
[29:01] Speaker 1: maybe playing like the best team in baseball. And this
[29:04] Speaker 1: is the team that was one a or one B
[29:06] Speaker 1: to that playing nowhere near that. And it's been really,
[29:10] Speaker 1: really amazing to see. I think though, the other aspect
[29:13] Speaker 1: is if you're slumping, the Dodgers or the Brewers are
[29:18] Speaker 1: probably the last team I'd want to face right now.
[29:21] Speaker 1: Like maybe the Dodgers against some of these other teams
[29:23] Speaker 1: in the playoffs could have grinded out a win, but,
[29:26] Speaker 1: The second that the Brewers see weakness, they just pounce
[29:31] Speaker 1: and they just hold you down and keep you down.
[29:33] Speaker 1: And I think if you're a team that's scuffling, even
[29:35] Speaker 1: if you're super talented, like I just I don't think
[29:39] Speaker 1: the Brewers are going to let you. get back into it.
[29:41] Speaker 1: And that is something that I don't think any other
[29:43] Speaker 1: team in the post season would be able to do
[29:45] Speaker 1: to the degree that the brewers are doing right now.
[29:48] Speaker 1: So the Dodgers like clutch swings and be a kind
[29:50] Speaker 1: of bailout moments that they've had throughout the last couple
[29:53] Speaker 1: of years. Like every team does that, that wins the
[29:55] Speaker 1: world series. Like they're having those moments. The brewers aren't
[29:57] Speaker 1: giving them the opportunity to even have those.
[30:00] Speaker 2: This is bullying. The brewer should be reported for bullying.
[30:03] Speaker 2: This is like the Dodgers are the kid at the
[30:07] Speaker 2: table where nobody wants to sit next to him and
[30:10] Speaker 2: he's eating his spaghetti and he spills some spaghetti sauce
[30:13] Speaker 2: all over his nice new shirt that he just got.
[30:15] Speaker 2: And he's like, ah, damn it. And then some kid
[30:18] Speaker 2: comes over and says, oh, you want me to clean that?
[30:20] Speaker 2: And then shoves his head into the toilet and gives
[30:22] Speaker 2: him a swirly. That's what's happening right now. They are
[30:25] Speaker 2: bullying the Dodgers.
[30:29] Speaker 1: I don't know if I like the idea of Muncy
[30:31] Speaker 1: not being in there too, because that's the guy that's
[30:34] Speaker 1: had so many big swings for them. And I know
[30:37] Speaker 1: that they were going to, you know, they liked the
[30:39] Speaker 1: idea of being able to deploy him in a key
[30:41] Speaker 1: spot and they did that. And he ended up going
[30:43] Speaker 1: over to, but Muncy put up some pretty good at
[30:46] Speaker 1: bats against lefties this year. Like he's put, put up
[30:49] Speaker 1: good numbers left on lefties had so many big swings
[30:52] Speaker 1: for them. I know a lot more qualified people had
[30:56] Speaker 1: a larger conversation about this, but, I just I like
[31:00] Speaker 1: the idea of having Max Muncy hit as many times
[31:03] Speaker 1: as possible. I think that's just if I would rather
[31:06] Speaker 1: him hit four times, then hit twice. And one of
[31:10] Speaker 1: those moments be the most opportune, especially when runs are
[31:13] Speaker 1: just this hard to come by.
[31:15] Speaker 2: I'm of the thinking that any of the Dodgers regulars
[31:18] Speaker 2: doesn't really matter. I'm almost like, where's Alex Freeland? is
[31:22] Speaker 2: Dalton rushing available? Let's get host way to Paula hitting
[31:24] Speaker 2: lead off.
[31:25] Speaker 1: Like that's where I'm at.
[31:26] Speaker 2: It's like, sure. You know, could Muncie put up slightly
[31:28] Speaker 2: better at bats? I mean, Muncie got his opportunity. And
[31:31] Speaker 2: like I said, if he just put his bat on
[31:32] Speaker 2: his shoulders, he's walking, which is what Muncie.
[31:35] Speaker 1: Is great at the bench though.
[31:36] Speaker 2: And I know I'm just, I'm just saying, it's like,
[31:40] Speaker 2: I get what you're saying. You'd like to give him
[31:42] Speaker 2: more opportunities. Like you're playing too many, you know, righty
[31:45] Speaker 2: lefty matchups, but it's like, none of them are hitting.
[31:51] Speaker 2: So I guess I don't blame Dave Roberts for not
[31:53] Speaker 2: starting Muncie and trying to, you know, put more righties
[31:57] Speaker 2: in the game because it's not like Muncie has earned
[32:00] Speaker 2: the right to be in this lineup right now with
[32:02] Speaker 2: the way he's hitting either.
[32:03] Speaker 1: And Rojas singled and walked, but you know, and, and,
[32:06] Speaker 1: you know, did his thing on the short side of it. Yeah,
[32:08] Speaker 1: but being able to hit the lefties and that's generally
[32:11] Speaker 1: what he does on the short side of the platoon.
[32:12] Speaker 1: So I get it. But shit, Rojas could have played second.
[32:17] Speaker 1: I don't know. Tommy Edmond was in there and, you know,
[32:20] Speaker 1: took it over. And that's a guy that you got
[32:23] Speaker 1: four plate appearances to, right? So I would like to
[32:27] Speaker 1: have two of those plate appearances over to Muncie and
[32:30] Speaker 1: see what happens. I don't think that makes a full
[32:31] Speaker 1: run difference. Ultimately, that doesn't matter. And again, going back
[32:35] Speaker 1: to to what the brewers have been able to do.
[32:38] Speaker 1: The last note I have on them is just that
[32:40] Speaker 1: we've seen them bunt and scrap and drive in runs.
[32:46] Speaker 1: We've seen them, you know, walk and grind out a
[32:48] Speaker 1: B's and, and, and poke the hole, poke the ball
[32:50] Speaker 1: through the hole. And then in this game, like we
[32:53] Speaker 1: saw them just slug, man. Like we saw them just
[32:56] Speaker 1: launch three homers and just blitz you. And I think that's,
[33:02] Speaker 1: what's really fun about this team right now too, is
[33:04] Speaker 1: it can get you in a couple of different ways.
[33:06] Speaker 2: It's such a good point that you made, and I'm
[33:08] Speaker 2: so glad that you made it because I don't want
[33:10] Speaker 2: to hear the word scrappy with the Brewers. They're just
[33:13] Speaker 2: straight up better. They're better at playing the game of baseball.
[33:17] Speaker 2: There is tons of talent in that dugout. They are
[33:21] Speaker 2: just beating the shit out of the Dodgers. Podcast Pete,
[33:24] Speaker 2: what do you got?
[33:27] Speaker 3: I'm very happy Arm said that. I think he was
[33:29] Speaker 3: telepathically communicating with me because I kind of came on
[33:32] Speaker 3: to expand on that exact point before he started that sentence.
[33:36] Speaker 3: And it's simply that in the league championship series, the
[33:39] Speaker 3: Brewers are striking out at like a 34% clip. They
[33:44] Speaker 3: have 35 strikeouts in 96 at-bats.
[33:47] Speaker 2: That's a lot.
[33:49] Speaker 3: But they're OPSing 831 as a team. Last NLCS, they
[33:54] Speaker 3: OPSed under 300. Ted Williams had a better batting average
[33:59] Speaker 3: than that. We're seeing a team right now for the
[34:02] Speaker 3: small ball, whatever scrappy thing, they're just saying they're doing
[34:07] Speaker 3: what the analytics guys love and the.
[34:10] Speaker 1: Old heads hate.
[34:11] Speaker 2: They're hunting homers.
[34:13] Speaker 3: And I know they've scrapped together a lot of runs
[34:15] Speaker 3: and that's kind of really helped them win these close games.
[34:20] Speaker 3: But I really think it is interesting that a team
[34:22] Speaker 3: like the Brewers are kind of out dodgering the Dodgers
[34:26] Speaker 3: right now. And yeah, What you're seeing right now is
[34:29] Speaker 3: the Dodgers are kind of having to resort to doing
[34:32] Speaker 3: Brewers tactics. We've seen them square to bunt a few times.
[34:35] Speaker 3: We've seen them actually bunt a few times.
[34:37] Speaker 2: And right now they're.
[34:38] Speaker 3: OPSing 430 as a team, which is still better than
[34:42] Speaker 3: what the Brewers did last year. But the point being
[34:44] Speaker 3: is this is basically the same series as last year.
[34:48] Speaker 2: What? It really is. Arm, anything else on this series
[34:52] Speaker 2: before we pick some games for tomorrow?
[34:54] Speaker 1: No, it's just looking forward to tomorrow. I mean, that's
[34:57] Speaker 1: the wild part is you're the Dodgers. And it's like,
[35:00] Speaker 1: all right, we've lost three in a row. We've used
[35:03] Speaker 1: our three best starters and still got Tyler Glass now
[35:05] Speaker 1: to go, but he can't pick up the bat and
[35:07] Speaker 1: hit for him. So excited to talk about that.
[35:10] Speaker 2: You think Dave Roberts tries to turn back the clock
[35:13] Speaker 2: and he says, if we get a runner on, let
[35:16] Speaker 2: me run.
[35:16] Speaker 1: Let me steal second.
[35:17] Speaker 2: And I'll steal second. I was down 3-0 against the
[35:20] Speaker 2: Yankees and we came all the way back. Do you
[35:22] Speaker 2: think he just puts himself in?
[35:24] Speaker 1: I bet you whole reference that to mention that, you know,
[35:29] Speaker 1: we were down three zip, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
[35:30] Speaker 1: And look, if there's any team that can do it, it's,
[35:33] Speaker 1: you know, it's, it's going to be the, the back-to-back champs.
[35:35] Speaker 1: It's going to be the Dodgers. They feel as, as
[35:37] Speaker 1: dead as could be, but I don't think any team
[35:40] Speaker 1: down three zero has ever felt anything but dead. So look,
[35:44] Speaker 1: you can't count them out. I think there might be
[35:46] Speaker 1: a little weight off of them going into game four,
[35:48] Speaker 1: where I could see the bats coming alive there a
[35:51] Speaker 1: little bit. I mean, just because of that, like that,
[35:55] Speaker 1: that just, I think you could just see them pressing
[35:57] Speaker 1: and you laid it out with the at bats and
[35:59] Speaker 1: the expanding and all of this stuff. I don't think
[36:00] Speaker 1: they're going to press as much in game four. Uh,
[36:03] Speaker 1: and that might work in there in their favor some, uh,
[36:06] Speaker 1: but you know, ultimately, you know, I think these, this
[36:08] Speaker 1: Brewers team is also going to be playing a little
[36:10] Speaker 1: bit more free, uh, you know, just, just knowing that
[36:12] Speaker 1: they've got four games to work with here, uh, to
[36:15] Speaker 1: be able to pick up that, that final win to
[36:17] Speaker 1: go to the world series.
[36:18] Speaker 2: We'll expand on those thoughts in a quick sec. We're
[36:21] Speaker 2: also going to predict ALCS game three between the guardians
[36:24] Speaker 2: and the rays, but podcast P would you mind giving
[36:27] Speaker 2: us a whoosh? Let's stick on Dodgers brewers just because
[36:37] Speaker 2: our brains are kind of geared for that right now.
[36:40] Speaker 2: I didn't, I didn't mean to cut you off arm.
[36:42] Speaker 2: So right now, The matchup for game four looks like
[36:46] Speaker 2: Tyler Glass now going for the Dodgers. And our comment section,
[36:52] Speaker 2: would you be able to help us out? Has there
[36:54] Speaker 2: been an announcement for who the Brewers are going to
[36:57] Speaker 2: go with in game four? Might not matter. They might
[37:00] Speaker 2: just throw Kyle Harrison to rehab for like next year.
[37:03] Speaker 1: Woodruff activated.
[37:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. They might just try some shit tomorrow.
[37:09] Speaker 1: Who knows?
[37:10] Speaker 2: But here's the thing. tyler glass now's numbers arm against
[37:16] Speaker 2: the brewers are unbelievable yeah 99 plate appearances against the
[37:23] Speaker 2: brewers current roster current the guys you're going to see
[37:27] Speaker 2: tomorrow 40 k rate they're hitting 118 with a one
[37:37] Speaker 2: what is that 193 expected slugging percentage that is pure
[37:42] Speaker 2: domination Yesterday, I said Blake Snell has a 38% K
[37:48] Speaker 2: rate against the Brewers' current roster, and they're hitting below 200.
[37:51] Speaker 2: They did okay. So by the numbers, you'd be like,
[37:57] Speaker 2: Tyler Glasson's going to shove. But if you've watched an
[38:00] Speaker 2: inning of this series, I don't feel good about it.
[38:03] Speaker 2: I think the Brewers are going to sweep them. Like,
[38:06] Speaker 2: maybe they'll play loose. I like that point. I could
[38:08] Speaker 2: see it. I, there is nothing for me to grab onto.
[38:12] Speaker 2: Like yesterday I went against my better judgment and pick
[38:15] Speaker 2: the Dodgers because there was nothing for me to grab onto.
[38:17] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[38:18] Speaker 2: I wanted to pick the brewers, but I'm like, okay,
[38:19] Speaker 2: I guess I'll just know way they can go down
[38:21] Speaker 2: three zero. I'm not doing that anymore, which means the
[38:23] Speaker 2: Dodgers are going to win because I've just been wrong
[38:25] Speaker 2: on this whole series anyway. But what I will say
[38:27] Speaker 2: is I'm picking the brewers to win tomorrow. I don't
[38:29] Speaker 2: care who pitches.
[38:32] Speaker 1: It feels like that is most likely the scenario. Also,
[38:37] Speaker 1: the Brewers are going to have different arms to be
[38:39] Speaker 1: able to go to. Guys that you legitimately want to
[38:42] Speaker 1: get work to. Shane Drohan is not thrown at all, really.
[38:48] Speaker 1: Kyle Harrison is not thrown really much at all, really
[38:52] Speaker 1: at all, period. Is Chad Patrick alive?
[38:56] Speaker 2: We saw him warming up. We saw him warming up.
[38:58] Speaker 2: So you have.
[38:59] Speaker 1: Three dudes that haven't thrown that all can give you length.
[39:02] Speaker 1: So they, they could, the thing that the other crazy
[39:06] Speaker 1: part is that you don't really need to rest your
[39:08] Speaker 1: guys though, because if you close the series out in
[39:11] Speaker 1: the next two games, you're going to have plenty of
[39:13] Speaker 1: time to rest them in terms of like the other
[39:16] Speaker 1: leverage arms and stuff like that. But probably makes sense
[39:18] Speaker 1: for a few of these different guys and not throw them,
[39:20] Speaker 1: you know, potentially three days in a row or like
[39:23] Speaker 1: three or four days, whatever it may be. um but
[39:26] Speaker 1: i they could go drohan drohan patrick harrison and then
[39:30] Speaker 1: to everybody else and be just fine i don't think
[39:33] Speaker 1: sensatella is really throwing it all either uh he's got
[39:36] Speaker 1: to get hot so they they are uh they are
[39:40] Speaker 1: in a driver's seat scenario in terms of you know
[39:42] Speaker 1: they don't have a tower glass now but they don't
[39:44] Speaker 1: have a shortage of, of innings that can be filled.
[39:47] Speaker 1: Like there are guys that can fill innings, I should say,
[39:50] Speaker 1: which I think puts them in a pretty decent spot.
[39:54] Speaker 1: Those dudes have thrown now they may be rusty. I
[39:56] Speaker 1: think that's the big equation to this. I don't think
[39:58] Speaker 1: they have not thrown at all. So that's part of
[40:01] Speaker 1: the reason why I think, I think some of the
[40:02] Speaker 1: guys that are going to throw are going to be
[40:04] Speaker 1: quite rusty. And I think even struggling Dodgers bats tee
[40:07] Speaker 1: off a little bit there. And I think they get one.
[40:09] Speaker 1: I think they get one in the series and then
[40:12] Speaker 1: that's it. And then the Brewers shut the door in
[40:14] Speaker 1: game five.
[40:15] Speaker 2: Dustin make a pitch as well.
[40:17] Speaker 1: They threw 14 pitches on Monday.
[40:19] Speaker 2: That's it.
[40:20] Speaker 1: So they could get some length from him.
[40:22] Speaker 2: Are you factoring in that Dave Roberts did save his
[40:25] Speaker 2: high leverage arms for this one? Yeah, he didn't go
[40:27] Speaker 2: to them in that two run game. He went to
[40:29] Speaker 2: Robleski instead. I get it. You got to save him
[40:32] Speaker 2: for game four. I'm like being sarcastic. I had no
[40:36] Speaker 2: idea why he was doing that. That was, I think
[40:39] Speaker 2: that was the worst decision that he made all night.
[40:41] Speaker 2: Like the Kike Edmond to Paula thing. Nobody was hitting.
[40:46] Speaker 2: I thought the fact that he just not gave up,
[40:50] Speaker 2: but he does that thing that he's done in previous
[40:51] Speaker 2: series where he kind of waves the white flag when
[40:54] Speaker 2: he doesn't think that his team is going to come back,
[40:57] Speaker 2: which I guess I understand watching it. I felt like
[41:01] Speaker 2: they had a white flag up since the first inning,
[41:04] Speaker 2: which is how the Dodgers bats were performing. But I
[41:07] Speaker 2: don't know. I thought it was a bad look not
[41:09] Speaker 2: to bring in Scott, not to bring in Diaz in
[41:11] Speaker 2: those situations. And instead they go to Robleski or Rokey
[41:15] Speaker 2: or something like that.
[41:17] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[41:17] Speaker 1: I mean, I guess Robleski is they like the matchup
[41:19] Speaker 1: against the lefties, but also like, then you could say, well,
[41:21] Speaker 1: what about Vessia? Maybe they thought that if they, If
[41:24] Speaker 1: they tie it, you know, there'll be a bigger spot
[41:26] Speaker 1: for Vessi. But you got to you got to keep
[41:28] Speaker 1: it in a position where you can tie it. So, yeah,
[41:30] Speaker 1: I get Sasaki because I think they trust him in
[41:33] Speaker 1: a relief role and kind of see him as an
[41:35] Speaker 1: equal with some of those other guys. But maybe they
[41:38] Speaker 1: trust him more than Diaz. It's not like Diaz has
[41:40] Speaker 1: thrown much in this series. So I do I do
[41:44] Speaker 1: wonder if it was more of a we trust Sasaki
[41:47] Speaker 1: more than Diaz type of thing. I don't know. But
[41:51] Speaker 1: you would have thought maybe Scott would go at some
[41:53] Speaker 1: point there, too. But I guess they thought if they
[41:55] Speaker 1: do tie it, someone's got to go at the higher
[41:57] Speaker 1: leverage spot. And either way, you're going to need Robleski
[42:00] Speaker 1: to throw. So I don't have as much issue with
[42:02] Speaker 1: that as is really the fact that they can't hit.
[42:08] Speaker 1: And I do think they push a few. I think
[42:11] Speaker 1: Otani hits his homer and or Freddie. I think they
[42:14] Speaker 1: steal game four and then they lose game five.
[42:19] Speaker 2: The Dodgers are the runners in scoring position this postseason.
[42:21] Speaker 2: Three for 32. That's 094 batting average. They got a double.
[42:26] Speaker 2: A double. No homers. 330 OPS. Yeah, I get what
[42:31] Speaker 2: you're saying, Arm. I hope the Dodgers win just so
[42:33] Speaker 2: we can get more games. Like, I don't want to sweep.
[42:36] Speaker 2: We got Dodgers Brewers. I wanted as many games as possible.
[42:41] Speaker 2: But I have no reasoning as to why they're going
[42:46] Speaker 2: to win. So, I'm going to go with the Brewers.
[42:49] Speaker 2: And hopefully I just jinx it so the Dodgers can win.
[42:51] Speaker 2: Let's move over to Rays versus Guardians. And Arm, I
[42:55] Speaker 2: have some interesting splits to give you. So this game
[42:59] Speaker 2: is happening during the day. And this game is happening
[43:03] Speaker 2: in Cleveland. Gavin Williams during the day, Arm, 2-8 ERA.
[43:10] Speaker 2: Night games, 4-6 ERA. Gavin Williams on the road, 5 ERA.
[43:15] Speaker 2: At home, we know how good he's been at home.
[43:18] Speaker 2: And the Rays, their splits, their OPS is about 45
[43:24] Speaker 2: points lower during the day than at night. And we
[43:28] Speaker 2: know also their OPS drops about 40 points home versus road.
[43:32] Speaker 2: So I say all of that for a pregame matchup.
[43:38] Speaker 2: This is as good of a spot for Gavin Williams
[43:41] Speaker 2: as you could give him based on his regular season data. Now,
[43:44] Speaker 2: will that matter?
[43:46] Speaker 1: Who knows?
[43:47] Speaker 2: But based on what he's done, day game with the
[43:51] Speaker 2: proper amount of rest, he pitched on the 10th. Now
[43:53] Speaker 2: he's pitching on the 15th. So it's the normal four
[43:56] Speaker 2: days pitching on every fifth day. This is the Gavin
[43:59] Speaker 2: Williams spot. So when I looked at BetMGM and I
[44:03] Speaker 2: was curious about prices, I was not surprised to see
[44:06] Speaker 2: the Guardians as decent favorites at minus 135, minus 140
[44:11] Speaker 2: to win this game. And then I saw those Gavin
[44:13] Speaker 2: Williams numbers and I was like, damn, he might shove.
[44:18] Speaker 1: The first thing I wanted to see was, like, what's
[44:19] Speaker 1: the sample size? It's 13 day starts.
[44:22] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[44:23] Speaker 1: Had a 2-4-2. Yeah, that is nasty. 114 strikeouts to
[44:27] Speaker 1: 20 walks. The command is, like, noticeably better in the daytime.
[44:36] Speaker 2: Bizarre.
[44:36] Speaker 1: I got to ask him about that. Hopefully when they
[44:40] Speaker 1: come back here for game six. But also... walked by
[44:44] Speaker 1: gavin williams when i was covering the game in tampa
[44:46] Speaker 1: that dude i know he's big like we know he's
[44:48] Speaker 1: a big dude but he's another one of those people
[44:51] Speaker 1: that you see in person he's ginormous absolutely ginormous uh
[44:56] Speaker 1: i cannot imagine standing the box opposite of him especially
[44:59] Speaker 1: in a day game at home for him oh my
[45:02] Speaker 1: gosh uh yeah this everything on paper sets up for
[45:07] Speaker 1: this to be a an advantage for the guardians i
[45:11] Speaker 1: would say in in this in game three look.
[45:15] Speaker 2: At this so gavin williams 2026 home day games 241
[45:20] Speaker 2: era and 74 innings with 103 strikeouts to just 19
[45:26] Speaker 2: walks arm this is the spot but on the other
[45:29] Speaker 2: side again you got griffin jacks who's probably going to
[45:32] Speaker 2: give them a good, what, three, four innings. Who do
[45:35] Speaker 2: you think they go to after Griffin Jacks? Because they
[45:40] Speaker 2: shouldn't expect the six innings that Freddie gave them or
[45:43] Speaker 2: the six innings that Rasmussen gave them. And the bullpen's
[45:46] Speaker 2: in a relatively nice spot. So after Jacks with Dick Martinez, again,
[45:51] Speaker 2: going game four, you know, he can give you five,
[45:54] Speaker 2: maybe six innings. Who do you think they go to
[45:57] Speaker 2: after him? Like who's the piggyback?
[45:59] Speaker 1: That's going to be, the, the, the challenging spot, because
[46:03] Speaker 1: I don't know how short the leash is going to
[46:05] Speaker 1: be with Jack's. Like we've seen him go five plus innings.
[46:08] Speaker 2: Sure.
[46:08] Speaker 1: Almost like every start, almost every start this year, but
[46:10] Speaker 1: you know that it's going to be a shorter leash with,
[46:12] Speaker 1: with Kevin Cash. And I think it really depends. I
[46:17] Speaker 1: think they really do like going to see more and
[46:21] Speaker 1: those kinds of middle ending spots, generally speaking. And I
[46:23] Speaker 1: could see, you know, Ian Seymour being a guy that
[46:25] Speaker 1: they go to again, only through 15 pitches last time
[46:28] Speaker 1: out when it is coming off of, you know, a
[46:29] Speaker 1: day of rest. I also think Tyler Wells is a
[46:33] Speaker 1: guy that they'll use in different roles and kind of
[46:35] Speaker 1: weaponize and in different spots. But I think if they
[46:37] Speaker 1: get up somehow early, like the lower leverage, like Cole Solcer,
[46:41] Speaker 1: Nick Martinez can make sense. I don't know. Kevin Cash
[46:44] Speaker 1: is a tough guy to predict on that front. And
[46:47] Speaker 1: I think they're hoping to get five out of Jack's
[46:49] Speaker 1: like it's a seven game set, man. Like you're really
[46:52] Speaker 1: hoping to get at least close to a four plus
[46:54] Speaker 1: from him and then kind of let the situation dictate.
[46:58] Speaker 1: But I think depending on where it lines up, if
[47:00] Speaker 1: you've got a string of lefties there, I'd imagine Boozer
[47:03] Speaker 1: or Seymour, one of those lefties would make sense. But
[47:07] Speaker 1: you also don't want to use one of your leverage
[47:10] Speaker 1: lefties there because then you're not going to have one
[47:12] Speaker 1: later on in the ballgame. So I'm excited to see
[47:15] Speaker 1: kind of how they maneuver that.
[47:18] Speaker 2: Well, it might be on the offense, again, to hit
[47:19] Speaker 2: Gavin Williams because, again, when we were previewing this series,
[47:23] Speaker 2: I did harp on the point that the Guardians do
[47:25] Speaker 2: really struggle against left-handed pitching. Right now, Parker Messick gave
[47:29] Speaker 2: up three runs, but none of them were earned. Right.
[47:31] Speaker 2: He likely gets out of that inning if Jose Ramirez
[47:33] Speaker 2: just fields that ball. Right. So, you know, they did
[47:37] Speaker 2: OK against Foster Griffin. kind of hit him up early
[47:41] Speaker 2: but then he he settled in he settled in um
[47:43] Speaker 2: so it's like gavin williams at least with the way
[47:46] Speaker 2: they're throwing right now i know parker messick had the
[47:48] Speaker 2: better season but with the way they're throwing gavin williams
[47:50] Speaker 2: kind of feels like the ace to me does that.
[47:53] Speaker 1: Yeah right now without a doubt i mean yeah you
[47:55] Speaker 1: you game seven i there's no doubt who you want
[48:00] Speaker 1: to give the ball to if you're the guardians right now.
[48:01] Speaker 2: But at the same time, right? Ray's ranked 26th against
[48:05] Speaker 2: lefties by WRC plus this season, fourth against righties. They
[48:08] Speaker 2: crush righties. So even though Gavin Williams is in the
[48:11] Speaker 2: ultimate spot at home during the day on proper rest,
[48:15] Speaker 2: you never know what the Ray's offense is going to
[48:17] Speaker 2: bring because we haven't seen a full like beat down
[48:21] Speaker 2: by the Ray's offense, which they are more than capable
[48:24] Speaker 2: of doing. but maybe the bats are just a little
[48:28] Speaker 2: bit quiet right now. And Gavin Williams with a, probably
[48:33] Speaker 2: the most rested the guardians bullpen has been for a
[48:35] Speaker 2: while now. That's why I'm leaning towards the guardians here
[48:40] Speaker 2: because I like jacks, but I think with a bunch
[48:46] Speaker 2: of different bullpen decisions after the guardians have seen them
[48:48] Speaker 2: a ton, um, I think this is where they bounce back.
[48:52] Speaker 2: The guardians are also so good after a loss. They
[48:54] Speaker 2: always find a way to win. Now, after a win,
[48:56] Speaker 2: sometimes they do lose, but not against the White Sox series.
[48:59] Speaker 2: They won three straight, but I think first game at home,
[49:03] Speaker 2: I do think the guardians win this one.
[49:05] Speaker 1: I like the guardians in this one too, just because on, again,
[49:09] Speaker 1: on paper, it's just set up so, so nicely for them.
[49:12] Speaker 1: I think the rays, I really liked them. And then
[49:14] Speaker 1: the two potentially after that, it just, it's, it's a
[49:18] Speaker 1: bit of a gap pitching wise. And it was like,
[49:22] Speaker 1: we haven't seen Jack stretched out in the playoffs yet.
[49:26] Speaker 1: We only saw him in two innings against the Yankees there,
[49:29] Speaker 1: but like, I'm just very curious to see how, how
[49:32] Speaker 1: much length they try to get out of him because yeah,
[49:35] Speaker 1: you're not treating this like game seven either. Like you
[49:37] Speaker 1: still got potentially like, three, four more games to play
[49:42] Speaker 1: in this series. So I think that's an advantage there.
[49:44] Speaker 1: The other aspect though, is I think Tampa is equipped
[49:46] Speaker 1: to be able to hit a guy like Gavin Williams.
[49:48] Speaker 1: Like they, they are not going to punch a ton, right.
[49:50] Speaker 1: They're going to, to, to, I think beyond below and
[49:54] Speaker 1: put the ball in play and put pressure on and, and,
[49:56] Speaker 1: you know, potentially try to drive that pitch count up
[49:59] Speaker 1: all these different things. That's what they do. They're really pesky.
[50:01] Speaker 1: And if they can get Gavin Williams out, you know,
[50:03] Speaker 1: we see him get his pitch count up there in
[50:05] Speaker 1: the fifth inning pretty often. Um, then it just turns
[50:08] Speaker 1: into a bullpen battle and it's anyone's game. And all
[50:10] Speaker 1: of a sudden that starting pitching gap that we were
[50:12] Speaker 1: citing kind of becomes, becomes less of a story. But
[50:17] Speaker 1: I just think that gap out of the gate is
[50:18] Speaker 1: too much at home.
[50:20] Speaker 2: I think this is the one.
[50:21] Speaker 1: That the guardians get. And then I think. There's a
[50:23] Speaker 1: good chance the Rays could take the next two. I'll
[50:25] Speaker 1: make that prediction after we see how this one goes.
[50:27] Speaker 1: But I do like the Guardians in this one. And
[50:29] Speaker 1: I think they know that this is their best, like
[50:32] Speaker 1: this is their highest probability win of the next three
[50:35] Speaker 1: at home. And I think with that, like you're going
[50:38] Speaker 1: to go all out to grab this first one as
[50:41] Speaker 1: being able to get up to one with the next
[50:43] Speaker 1: two at home is the position you really want to be.
[50:47] Speaker 2: Two players to watch one on Cleveland, one on Tampa
[50:51] Speaker 2: in terms of bats. Yandy Diaz destroys Gavin Williams arm.
[50:56] Speaker 2: He's seven for 15 with three doubles. He's only struck
[50:59] Speaker 2: out once to your point about the Rays, you know,
[51:02] Speaker 2: being pesky. They're not going to let Gavin Williams just
[51:04] Speaker 2: blow it by them. You know, he's hitting four 67
[51:08] Speaker 2: average EV of 98, just sees Gavin Williams really well.
[51:12] Speaker 2: And then on the flip side against Griffin Jacks, not
[51:15] Speaker 2: a ton of data. They just haven't faced him, you know,
[51:18] Speaker 2: that many times, but Patrick Bailey two for five with
[51:22] Speaker 2: a triple one Oh two average exit velocity. Joe Waddell
[51:25] Speaker 2: has put some good wood on some balls against Griffin
[51:28] Speaker 2: Jacks too. So I'm going to go with Patrick Bailey.
[51:30] Speaker 2: Who's been red hot. I think that trade's already worth
[51:33] Speaker 2: it for Cleveland. oh yeah and then on the other
[51:36] Speaker 2: side yandi diaz watch out for him to get going
[51:38] Speaker 2: as well but that's it for me i got guardians
[51:41] Speaker 2: and i got brewers and you're on dodgers and guardians
[51:46] Speaker 2: um anything else before we say goodbye.
[51:48] Speaker 1: No i think jacks gives him a good one and
[51:51] Speaker 1: depending on how how sharp it is i i think
[51:55] Speaker 1: the rays could have a chance there i think jacks
[51:56] Speaker 1: makes it interesting but I, I, I, the, I, and
[51:59] Speaker 1: I think that the guardians take that game when I
[52:01] Speaker 1: think it's going to be one of the more fun games,
[52:03] Speaker 1: always sometimes the best games are the ones that like
[52:05] Speaker 1: half the people can't watch because they're at work. I
[52:07] Speaker 1: think this is going to be one of those. I
[52:08] Speaker 1: think it's going to be an awesome game, but this
[52:10] Speaker 1: whole series, I think is going to be great and
[52:12] Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to it. And yeah, we'll probably go
[52:14] Speaker 1: live twice tomorrow or today as you're listening to this,
[52:18] Speaker 1: you know, after the one o'clock and then after the
[52:21] Speaker 1: evening game as well, which, which should be exciting.
[52:24] Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be. So, That'll do it for
[52:27] Speaker 2: this episode of the Just Baseball Show. Again, like Arm said,
[52:30] Speaker 2: be on the lookout. We're probably going to go live
[52:31] Speaker 2: after because there's this huge gap in timing. There is the,
[52:35] Speaker 2: you know, Guardians game at 12 Central and then the
[52:38] Speaker 2: Dodgers Brewers game at 7 Central. So there's that pocket
[52:44] Speaker 2: of time. So we'll kind of hit one and then
[52:46] Speaker 2: we'll hit the other after that one is done. Again,
[52:49] Speaker 2: all right here on YouTube. Make sure to subscribe. Turn
[52:53] Speaker 2: on the bell so you never miss when we go live.
[52:55] Speaker 2: Liking and commenting, best way to support, as well as
[52:58] Speaker 2: the audio crowd, a five-star review. Special shout-out to Podcast P,
[53:02] Speaker 2: brilliant producing, staying up late with us, providing us all
[53:05] Speaker 2: this different data, doing such a great job, Peyton. And
[53:08] Speaker 2: he's got a new haircut. I complimented him. See that
[53:10] Speaker 2: new haircut? He's rocking it. I need a haircut. Look
[53:12] Speaker 2: at all this lettuce on him. Look at all this
[53:14] Speaker 2: garbage in the back of my hair. I need a
[53:16] Speaker 2: haircut so badly. Podcast B, you coming to show the
[53:19] Speaker 2: people your haircut? No, not even that.
[53:21] Speaker 3: Because I already came in. I was more saying that
[53:23] Speaker 3: from the back, Peter looks like Trevor McGill.
[53:27] Speaker 1: Oh, I kind of see that.
[53:29] Speaker 2: And I told him, and I don't mean to insult
[53:32] Speaker 2: Trevor McGill or anything, but I also said I kind
[53:33] Speaker 2: of look like Trevor McGill the way he was standing
[53:35] Speaker 2: on the mound with his belly kind of out. He
[53:37] Speaker 2: was kind of like strutted. I kind of look like
[53:38] Speaker 2: that too. So I'm pulling a real Trevor McGill. right
[53:42] Speaker 2: now so for podcast p arm layton again we'll see
[53:45] Speaker 2: everybody tomorrow and with that thank you everybody
