[0:00] Speaker 1: Claire and the Chocolate Milk Midas Touch Claire had one
[0:05] Speaker 1: great love in life. Not puppies. Not pizza. Not cartoons. Nope.
[0:13] Speaker 1: Claire loved chocolate milk. She drank it for breakfast. She
[0:19] Speaker 1: drank it after soccer practice. She even asked her mom
[0:23] Speaker 1: once if she could bathe in it. I don't think so.
[0:28] Speaker 1: her mom replied with an odd look on her face.
[0:31] Speaker 1: So one night, Claire stood by her window, gazing at
[0:35] Speaker 1: the stars with a dreamy sigh. I wish, she whispered,
[0:41] Speaker 1: I had all the chocolate milk in the entire world,
[0:45] Speaker 1: forever and ever, so much that I could swim in
[0:49] Speaker 1: it and do synchronized cannonballs with marshmallows. And then she
[0:54] Speaker 1: went to sleep with a big smile and a slight
[0:58] Speaker 1: chocolate milk mustache. The next morning, Claire stumbled into the kitchen,
[1:03] Speaker 1: sleepy-eyed and slipper-footed. She reached for a glass, turned on
[1:08] Speaker 1: the tap, expected water, but what poured out was chocolate milk! Thick, creamy, swirly,
[1:18] Speaker 1: perfectly chilled chocolate milk. Ah! Claire screamed in delight. My
[1:25] Speaker 1: wish came true! I have a chocolate milk tap! She
[1:29] Speaker 1: danced in her pajamas. Her cat Muffin stared at the tap,
[1:33] Speaker 1: stuck his tongue out to try it, then ran away
[1:37] Speaker 1: hiccuping chocolate bubbles. Claire grabbed her mom's teacup. Sploosh! Chocolate milk!
[1:44] Speaker 1: Then ran to tell her mom. Check it out! Chocolate milk!
[1:49] Speaker 1: Claire squealed with joy. That's great, hon, her mom replied,
[1:55] Speaker 1: rolling back over to sleep. She patted the family fish tank. Glug, glug. Slap. Suddenly,
[2:02] Speaker 1: the goldfish were swimming in a mocha paradise. Everything she
[2:07] Speaker 1: touched that had liquid inside turned to chocolate milk. Whoa!
[2:14] Speaker 1: Claire skipped outside to catch the bus, still giddy. She
[2:18] Speaker 1: tapped the side of the yellow school bus when it stopped. Uh-oh.
[2:23] Speaker 1: The engine coughed, spluttered, and then, bloop, the exhaust pipe
[2:29] Speaker 1: burst out a giant chocolate milk bubble. Then another, and another. What?
[2:37] Speaker 1: shouted the driver, slipping on a cocoa puddle as he
[2:40] Speaker 1: climbed from the bus. What's going on? The kids all
[2:44] Speaker 1: laughed and cheered. Sweet ride! Claire giggled nervously. She sat down, carefully,
[2:53] Speaker 1: and avoided touching anything else. She was starting to realize
[2:57] Speaker 1: this might be a bit of a problem. At school,
[3:02] Speaker 1: Claire was still buzzing with joy. Just one little drink
[3:06] Speaker 1: before class, she said, approaching the hallway water fountain. Bad idea, Claire.
[3:13] Speaker 1: She touched the button. Blast! the fountain shot a jet
[3:17] Speaker 1: of chocolate milk into the air like a cocoa geyser.
[3:23] Speaker 1: Screamed Madison from Claire's English class, getting milk splashed right
[3:28] Speaker 1: in the face. Then every other fountain on every floor
[3:33] Speaker 1: exploded with chocolate milk like fizzy fire hydrants. One kid
[3:39] Speaker 1: grabbed a cookie and started dunking it midair. Another kid shouted,
[3:44] Speaker 1: it's the sweetpocalypse. Claire slunk off to class, dripping with
[3:50] Speaker 1: guilt and another little chocolate mustache. Things really went downhill
[3:56] Speaker 1: in gym class. Coach Gruffle lined everyone up by the
[3:59] Speaker 1: school pool. Time for laps. No cannonballs, no splashing, and
[4:05] Speaker 1: absolutely no belly flops that cause tidal waves. Claire tiptoed
[4:10] Speaker 1: toward the pool. I'll just sit and dangle my toes,
[4:14] Speaker 1: she told herself. No biggie. I won't even get in.
[4:18] Speaker 1: But the moment her pinky toe touched the water, whoosh,
[4:23] Speaker 1: the entire pool transformed into chocolate milk. Not just any
[4:29] Speaker 1: chocolate milk, whipped, frothy, pool-sized chocolate milk with a cherry
[4:35] Speaker 1: on top. Literally, a rubber ring turned into a giant cherry.
[4:41] Speaker 1: Then the waves started. and huge gushes of chocolate milk
[4:46] Speaker 1: lapped out of the pool and rushed through the school.
[4:49] Speaker 1: Kids were body-surfing cocoa waves into the lockers. Coach Gruffle
[4:55] Speaker 1: slipped and rode a floatie all the way down the hall, shouting,
[4:59] Speaker 1: This is not in the syllabus! The chocolate milk crashed
[5:05] Speaker 1: through the double doors, down the stairs, and flooded every classroom.
[5:11] Speaker 1: In the art room, brushes started painting chocolate milk. In
[5:15] Speaker 1: the science lab, baking soda volcanoes erupted chocolate foam. In
[5:21] Speaker 1: the music room, tubas filled with chocolate milk and went, boomp,
[5:27] Speaker 1: every time someone played a note. Claire just stood in
[5:30] Speaker 1: the hallway with her arms crossed. Oops. By the time
[5:35] Speaker 1: school let out, kids were sticky, soaked, and smiling. Parents
[5:42] Speaker 1: were slipping in the parking lot. The principal was trying
[5:45] Speaker 1: to paddle across the gym in a kayak made from
[5:48] Speaker 1: lunch trays. Claire didn't feel happy anymore. She walked home slowly,
[5:55] Speaker 1: her feet going squish, squish with every step. At home,
[6:02] Speaker 1: she looked at the chocolate milk pouring out of every faucet,
[6:07] Speaker 1: the fridge, the sprinkler. Muffin the cat now had a
[6:12] Speaker 1: chocolate milk mustache of his own. Claire flopped into bed
[6:17] Speaker 1: and sighed. I just wanted a little chocolate milk, she whispered.
[6:23] Speaker 1: Not the entire milky way. She looked out at the stars.
[6:29] Speaker 1: I take it back. I don't want the chocolate milk
[6:32] Speaker 1: Midas touch anymore. I just want things to be normal.
[6:36] Speaker 1: Maybe with one glass of chocolate milk. Just one, maybe two,
[6:42] Speaker 1: with a cookie. Then she fell asleep, a little stickier
[6:46] Speaker 1: than before. The next morning, Claire raced to the kitchen
[6:50] Speaker 1: and turned on the tap. Water. She touched her mom's teacup.
[6:56] Speaker 1: It stayed as tea. She poked the fish tank. Just fish.
[7:01] Speaker 1: No fudge. Yes, she cheered. I'm back to boring. She
[7:08] Speaker 1: jumped up and down until Muffin gave her a dirty look.
[7:12] Speaker 1: At school, everything was still being cleaned up. The hallway
[7:16] Speaker 1: still smelled like brownies. The janitor was trying to unstick
[7:20] Speaker 1: a trombone from the ceiling. Claire, said Coach Gruffle, floating
[7:26] Speaker 1: past on a cafeteria tray. Maybe stick to juice next time.
[7:31] Speaker 1: Claire laughed. Lesson learned. That night, Claire had one glass,
[7:37] Speaker 1: just one, of chocolate milk with dinner. No magic, no fountains,
[7:44] Speaker 1: no tidal waves. She smiled and said, Sometimes too much
[7:49] Speaker 1: of the thing you love turns your school into a
[7:52] Speaker 1: fudge flood. And then she took a sip. And you
[7:57] Speaker 1: know what? It was delicious. The End
