## Transcript

[0:06] Speaker 1: Malaya had a secret. In some ways, it was an
[0:09] Speaker 1: enormous secret, one that she hadn't told anybody. But in
[0:14] Speaker 1: another way, Malaya's secret was tiny. So small, in fact,
[0:20] Speaker 1: that it could fit right in her pocket. You see,
[0:23] Speaker 1: Malaya had a magic crayon. It looked like Malaya's other crayons.
[0:29] Speaker 1: Like them, it had a yellow label that wrapped around it.
[0:32] Speaker 1: on which there was a space where the name of
[0:34] Speaker 1: the crayon's color was printed. But where the other crayons
[0:38] Speaker 1: said sunburst yellow or midnight blue or treetop green, the
[0:43] Speaker 1: magic crayon simply said magic. It looked like a white crayon,
[0:49] Speaker 1: but when Malaya used it, it always seemed to draw
[0:53] Speaker 1: in just the color she needed. She'd found it in
[0:56] Speaker 1: the pack alongside all the other crayons and had assumed
[0:59] Speaker 1: that everyone's pack of crayons had a magic crayon in there.
[1:03] Speaker 1: So surprised was she to learn otherwise that she decided
[1:06] Speaker 1: not to tell a soul about her good fortune. I
[1:10] Speaker 1: expect you're wondering just exactly how the crayon was magic. Well,
[1:15] Speaker 1: I'll tell you. Whatever Malaya chose to draw would come alive.
[1:20] Speaker 1: She'd already drawn a cartoon cat and a butterfly this way,
[1:24] Speaker 1: and now had to hide them both so nobody found
[1:27] Speaker 1: out about the crayon. They currently lived in her bedroom.
[1:31] Speaker 1: This created a problem for Malaya. If you drew something,
[1:34] Speaker 1: it would come alive. But once it was alive, people
[1:38] Speaker 1: might ask where it had come from, allowing them to
[1:41] Speaker 1: discover the crayon. So, for a long time, Malaya didn't
[1:45] Speaker 1: draw anything with the magic crayon at all. But what's
[1:49] Speaker 1: the point of having a magic crayon if you don't
[1:51] Speaker 1: use it? Malaya thought about this problem every day, trying
[1:55] Speaker 1: to come up with a way around it. Until one day,
[1:58] Speaker 1: she had an answer. I know exactly what I'm going
[2:01] Speaker 1: to draw, said Malaya with a grin, and from out
[2:05] Speaker 1: of her pocket, she pulled out the magic crayon. What
[2:08] Speaker 1: are you doing? asked the cartoon cat as the crayoned
[2:12] Speaker 1: butterfly fluttered overhead. I'm drawing something new, replied Malaya. Oh,
[2:19] Speaker 1: it looks big, said the cartoon cat. Will there be
[2:22] Speaker 1: enough space for it to live in your bedroom too? Oh,
[2:25] Speaker 1: this one won't need to live in my bedroom, smiled Malaya.
[2:29] Speaker 1: I'm drawing a Candyland unicorn with multicolored wings, and I'm
[2:34] Speaker 1: going to ask if it can take me there when
[2:36] Speaker 1: it flies home. Oh, that's a clever idea, said the
[2:40] Speaker 1: cartoon cat. Can I come? Well, I don't see why not,
[2:45] Speaker 1: said Malaya, as she began drawing the legs. It was
[2:48] Speaker 1: already looking really good. She didn't even need paper to
[2:52] Speaker 1: draw on, allowed her to draw straight into the air. There,
[2:57] Speaker 1: said Malaya.
[2:59] Speaker 2: She's done.
[2:59] Speaker 1: Oh, doesn't she look beautiful? Oh, thank you for saying so,
[3:04] Speaker 1: said the winged unicorn. Oh, I do like how you've
[3:08] Speaker 1: coloured my wings. Are you really a Candyland unicorn? asked
[3:12] Speaker 1: the cartoon cat. I am, nodded the unicorn. And I
[3:17] Speaker 1: can't wait to get home. Are you all coming along
[3:19] Speaker 1: for the ride? Oh, yes, please, laughed Malaya. And they
[3:24] Speaker 1: climbed up onto the unicorn's back. Even the butterfly was
[3:28] Speaker 1: perched itself at the base of the unicorn's horn. Hold
[3:31] Speaker 1: on tight, announced the unicorn, because it's time to take
[3:36] Speaker 1: to the skies. They soared across treetops and rocky ground,
[3:40] Speaker 1: then golden sand and deep blue ocean as the wind
[3:44] Speaker 1: tussled Malaya's hair. Far below, an island came into sight.
[3:49] Speaker 1: As they drifted down towards it, they could see strange
[3:53] Speaker 1: trees bearing colorful fruits and rivers of bright, sparkling colors. Candyland,
[4:00] Speaker 1: announced the winged unicorn. They soon spied a sugar-coated castle
[4:05] Speaker 1: that glittered in the sunshine, where hundreds of people stood
[4:08] Speaker 1: before the castle steps. Ooh, this looks interesting, announced the unicorn,
[4:14] Speaker 1: and took them inland. Hopping off the unicorn's back, Malaya
[4:18] Speaker 1: and the cartoon cat approached the people at the back
[4:21] Speaker 1: of the crowd.
[4:22] Speaker 3: Is it a celebration?
[4:24] Speaker 1: Malaya asked. No, far from it. said a short man
[4:28] Speaker 1: in a bright blue hat. There's trouble in the land.
[4:31] Speaker 1: Before Malaya could ask what sort of trouble, the doors
[4:35] Speaker 1: to the castle were thrown open and a red-bearded king
[4:39] Speaker 1: with the tallest crown Malaya had ever seen strode to
[4:43] Speaker 1: the top of the stairs. People of Candyland, the king
[4:49] Speaker 1: said loudly. I have grave news. The brave knight, Sir
[4:54] Speaker 1: Gummy Bear, has failed to stop the terror that has
[4:57] Speaker 1: been stalking our home.
[5:00] Speaker 3: What about the candy harvest?
[5:02] Speaker 1: Shouted a worried old woman. If we can't bring the
[5:05] Speaker 1: candy in from the fields and trees, then we'll all
[5:08] Speaker 1: be ruined. It'll be a disaster, wailed a young man
[5:13] Speaker 1: with a straggly beard.
[5:15] Speaker 3: But there are no more heroes, sobbed the king. We're doomed.
[5:21] Speaker 1: I could help, suggested Malaya, almost spilling her secret. What
[5:25] Speaker 1: exactly is the problem? Giants, howled the king, almost making
[5:31] Speaker 1: his tall crown topple from his head. Jobble wobble and
[5:35] Speaker 1: wibble jibble have made our lives a misery, and they're
[5:39] Speaker 1: too big for us to do anything about. They all
[5:42] Speaker 1: eat the candy and they grab it with their enormous hands,
[5:46] Speaker 1: added the old woman. They ate my entire toffee apple orchard.
[5:51] Speaker 3: Can you really do something to help, pleaded the king.
[5:54] Speaker 1: I think so, nodded Malaya. Leave it to me and
[5:58] Speaker 1: my friends. She and the cartoon cat climbed back onto
[6:02] Speaker 1: the unicorn's back and they took off to the air
[6:05] Speaker 1: once more in search of two hungry giants. It didn't
[6:10] Speaker 1: take long to find them. Jobble Wobble and Wibble Jibble
[6:13] Speaker 1: were sat in a field of golden popcorn, scooping up
[6:17] Speaker 1: handfuls from each plant to fill their gigantic mouths.
[6:21] Speaker 3: Hey, what's your game?
[6:23] Speaker 1: Shouted Jobble Wobble as he saw the winged unicorn flying overhead. Yeah,
[6:29] Speaker 1: clear off, bellowed Wibble Jibble lazily, or we'll do to
[6:34] Speaker 1: you what we did to that Sir Gummy Bear. Oh,
[6:38] Speaker 1: that looked dreadfully big. said the cartoon cat. I don't
[6:42] Speaker 1: like them one tiny bit. Me neither, added the unicorn.
[6:47] Speaker 1: You can't seriously think that we can beat them, can you, Malaya? Well,
[6:51] Speaker 1: I'm at least going to try, Malaya replied. Can you
[6:54] Speaker 1: land on the edge of the field so we're not
[6:57] Speaker 1: too close? That's exactly what the unicorn did. With her
[7:01] Speaker 1: feet firmly on the floor, Malaya pulled out her magic
[7:04] Speaker 1: crayon and got to work.
[7:07] Speaker 3: What's she drawing?
[7:08] Speaker 1: Asked the unicorn.
[7:10] Speaker 3: Is that a fried egg?
[7:11] Speaker 1: I think it's an eye, said the cartoon cat. And
[7:15] Speaker 1: that's an arm. They watched as the drawing took shape,
[7:19] Speaker 1: revealing in the end a golden robot with crab-like pincers
[7:24] Speaker 1: for hands. It whirred into life, its eyes lighting up brightly.
[7:29] Speaker 3: How may I serve you? it asked.
[7:33] Speaker 1: Candyland is being plagued by those two giants over there.
[7:37] Speaker 1: I want you to chase them away.
[7:38] Speaker 3: Said Malaya.
[7:40] Speaker 1: Of course, Mistress Malaya, said the robot, snapping its pincers
[7:44] Speaker 1: open and shut.
[7:45] Speaker 3: Leave it to me.
[7:47] Speaker 1: They watched it trundle off between the stalks of popcorn plants. Look,
[7:52] Speaker 1: said the cartoon cat.
[7:54] Speaker 3: They must be worried.
[7:55] Speaker 1: Jabba Wobble's standing up. They're scared, laughed the winged unicorn.
[8:01] Speaker 1: But Jabba Wobble didn't look scared.
[8:04] Speaker 3: What's your game?
[8:06] Speaker 1: He asked grumpily as the robot approached. I've been sent
[8:10] Speaker 1: here to chase you away, announced the robot, lifting his
[8:13] Speaker 1: pincers high.
[8:14] Speaker 3: I don't think so, said Jobble Wobble, and he lifted
[8:19] Speaker 3: an enormous boot high in the air and stamped down
[8:23] Speaker 3: with all his might. The robot was squashed flat. Oh no,
[8:30] Speaker 3: yelped the cartoon cat. Now what do we do?
[8:33] Speaker 1: I've got another idea, said Malaya and got drawing right away.
[8:38] Speaker 1: This time she doodled an enormous snake, the longest snake
[8:42] Speaker 1: the world had ever seen. Oh, hello, said the snake,
[8:47] Speaker 1: blinking its eyes for the first time.
[8:51] Speaker 3: What's going on?
[8:53] Speaker 1: I need your help, said Malaya. There are two giants
[8:56] Speaker 1: causing trouble over there. I wondered if you could chase
[8:59] Speaker 1: them away for us. Oh, gladly, said the snake. I'll
[9:05] Speaker 1: be back in a minute. And off he slithered. This
[9:09] Speaker 1: time it was Wibble Jibble that stood up. Go on,
[9:13] Speaker 1: clear off, leave us alone, he screeched between mouthfuls of
[9:18] Speaker 1: the sugary corn.
[9:19] Speaker 2: Oh, I'm very sorry, but I can't do that, said
[9:25] Speaker 2: the snake. It would seem that the pair of you
[9:29] Speaker 2: are being beastly, so I'm going to scare you off.
[9:35] Speaker 3: Well, I don't think so.
[9:37] Speaker 1: Said Wibble Jibble, and he reached out and snatched the
[9:41] Speaker 1: snake up, tying it into a knot and then into
[9:44] Speaker 1: a massive ball. Then he drew back his giant foot
[9:48] Speaker 1: and punted the ball of snake clean across the field
[9:52] Speaker 1: over the forest to crash down somewhere beyond the hills.
[9:56] Speaker 1: Oh dear, said the cartoon cat.
[9:59] Speaker 3: That didn't work either.
[10:00] Speaker 1: Hmm, said Malaya, thinking hard. I'm going to have to
[10:05] Speaker 1: try something else. Like what?
[10:08] Speaker 3: Asked the unicorn.
[10:09] Speaker 1: Something even bigger, like a colossal dragon? Yeah, agreed the
[10:14] Speaker 1: cartoon cat, with sharp teeth. not quite said Malaya in
[10:19] Speaker 1: the end but you've given me an idea she walked
[10:23] Speaker 1: over to the unicorn and asked her to tip her
[10:25] Speaker 1: head forward where the butterfly she had drawn was still
[10:29] Speaker 1: perched at the base of the horn she carefully picked
[10:32] Speaker 1: the butterfly up whispered a few words to it and
[10:35] Speaker 1: the butterfly spread its wings wide with this done Malaya
[10:40] Speaker 1: pulled out her magic crayon once again and drew a
[10:43] Speaker 1: few extra lines what have you done asked the cartoon cat.
[10:48] Speaker 1: You'll see, said Malaya, and threw her hand into the air,
[10:53] Speaker 1: launching the butterfly skywards. It flapped and skittered across the
[10:57] Speaker 1: tops of the popcorn stalks. And it was so tiny
[11:02] Speaker 1: that neither Jobble Wobble nor Wibble Jibble saw it approaching.
[11:06] Speaker 1: In fact, they didn't notice anything at all until Jobble
[11:09] Speaker 1: Wobble leapt up with a yelp of pain. Yo!
[11:15] Speaker 3: He bellowed. Something just bit me on my bottom. Ow!
[11:22] Speaker 1: Screamed Wibble Jibble, leaping into the air beside him.
[11:26] Speaker 3: Someone just bit me on the butt. Oh, there's another one,
[11:33] Speaker 3: screeched Jobble Wobble. Oh, it got me again, bleated Wibble Jibble.
[11:39] Speaker 1: Whoever was causing them the problem didn't seem to stop.
[11:42] Speaker 1: and they were soon hopping and leaping about while slapping
[11:45] Speaker 1: their gigantic behinds.
[11:48] Speaker 3: This field must have fleas, yelled Jubble Wubble. Come on,
[11:52] Speaker 3: let's get out of.
[11:53] Speaker 1: Here, yelled Wibble Jibble, and they ran away, and they
[11:57] Speaker 1: kept running, and the bites on the bottom didn't stop
[12:01] Speaker 1: until they had left Candyland far behind. A little later, Malaya,
[12:06] Speaker 1: the cartoon cat, and the winged unicorn were stood with
[12:09] Speaker 1: the king and on top of the steps up to
[12:11] Speaker 1: the front of the castle, while down below the people
[12:15] Speaker 1: of Candyland cheered and waved.
[12:18] Speaker 3: You have done Candyland a tremendous service, said the king proudly.
[12:24] Speaker 3: Simply marvelous.
[12:26] Speaker 1: It was largely down to this one, said Malaya, holding
[12:30] Speaker 1: up her finger. The butterfly fluttered down and sat rested
[12:34] Speaker 1: upon it, grinning a big toothy grin at the king.
[12:38] Speaker 1: My goodness, he said. I've never seen such a thing.
[12:42] Speaker 1: I didn't know that butterflies have big teeth like that. Well,
[12:46] Speaker 1: they don't, said Malaya, patting her magic crayon in her pocket.
[12:51] Speaker 1: Not normally, anyway. As a reward, Malaya was given a
[12:56] Speaker 1: large sack of Candyland's best candy. It was almost too
[13:00] Speaker 1: much to carry. It's time for me to go home now,
[13:04] Speaker 1: she announced. Allow me to take you. said the unicorn.
[13:08] Speaker 1: It would be my pleasure. If it's okay with you,
[13:12] Speaker 1: me and the butterfly thought we would stay, said the
[13:14] Speaker 1: cartoon cat. Of course, agreed Malaya. It's got to be
[13:19] Speaker 1: better than hiding in my bedroom for the rest of
[13:21] Speaker 1: your lives. And so, with a big wave, Malaya took
[13:25] Speaker 1: off upon the unicorn's back, leaving Candyland safe and secure
[13:30] Speaker 1: behind her. She was a little sad that the unicorn,
[13:33] Speaker 1: cartoon cat and butterfly... wouldn't be a part of her
[13:36] Speaker 1: life any longer. But she supposed it wasn't the end
[13:40] Speaker 1: of the world. After all, if she wanted a new friend,
[13:44] Speaker 1: all she had to do was draw them. The End
