However never in the middle of a story or at the end. Please be assured all ad blocks have been applied to ensure no over 18 or inappropriate ads are played. However, there may be the odd occasion where an advert slips through the net because the company submitting them submits them under a category that is not correct. This happens very rarely and I do my upmost to stop this happening. If this happens, please email me at shortstoriesforkids@gmail.com and let me know the following information: What the ad was for? What state you live in? And what episode you heard it on and I will immediately contact Spreaker to block the ad. I take this very seriously and I really appreciate your support and co-operation. As creators, we want your child’s experience to be a pleasurable one. Running adverts is necessary to allow us to operate, but please do consider the premium subscription service as an alternative – it’s ad free.

## Transcript

[0:06] Speaker 1: Penelope had lived a charmed life. At least that's how
[0:10] Speaker 1: it had seemed. For some time now, everything seemed to
[0:14] Speaker 1: go just right for her. If she knocked something from
[0:17] Speaker 1: a table, she always caught it. If she lost something,
[0:21] Speaker 1: it was always in the first place that she looked,
[0:24] Speaker 1: and when she was working on something for school, it
[0:27] Speaker 1: always turned out just right. Penelope didn't really think much
[0:32] Speaker 1: until one day nothing seemed to go right. Firstly, she
[0:37] Speaker 1: spilt paint over a classmate's work. It had been an accident,
[0:41] Speaker 1: but the upset it caused was huge. Then she couldn't
[0:45] Speaker 1: find her homework, resulting in a stern telling off from
[0:48] Speaker 1: her teacher. Worst of all, a science project she was
[0:51] Speaker 1: working on with two classmates went terribly wrong, resulting in
[0:55] Speaker 1: the classroom having to be evacuated due to a room
[0:58] Speaker 1: full of foul smoke. For some reason, the blame was
[1:03] Speaker 1: directed at Penelope and she was sent home. The day
[1:07] Speaker 1: had been very different from what she was used to.
[1:10] Speaker 1: Back home, Penelope slumped on her bed on the edge
[1:14] Speaker 1: of tears and wondered how everything could have gone so wrong,
[1:18] Speaker 1: What was so different about today? That was when Penelope
[1:22] Speaker 1: spotted her fancy necklace still hooked over the edge of
[1:25] Speaker 1: her mirror. She hadn't realized she wasn't wearing it, as
[1:29] Speaker 1: she very rarely took it off. It was a string
[1:32] Speaker 1: of polished beads in varying bright colors, all flecked with
[1:36] Speaker 1: speckles of silver and gold. She found it at a
[1:39] Speaker 1: garage sale in a neighboring street a couple of years before.
[1:43] Speaker 1: The owner didn't want much money for it, and so
[1:46] Speaker 1: Penelope's mom had gladly bought it for her. She'd worn
[1:49] Speaker 1: it every day since, except she realized for today. Rising
[1:55] Speaker 1: from her bed, Penelope crossed to the mirror and picked
[1:58] Speaker 1: up the necklace sparkled in.
