[0:01] Speaker 1: The Birthday Slime Pit It was Bobby's birthday and he
[0:07] Speaker 1: was pacing around the house. His mom and dad had
[0:10] Speaker 1: put up banners and streamers and balloons. He'd had his
[0:15] Speaker 1: gifts from them and now he was waiting for all
[0:18] Speaker 1: his friends to turn up. A birthday party wasn't really
[0:22] Speaker 1: a birthday party unless you spend it with all your friends, right?
[0:27] Speaker 1: They could play games and have fun. and the weather
[0:30] Speaker 1: was great, bright and sunny, so they could go and
[0:34] Speaker 1: play in the yard. The doorbell let out a ding-dong,
[0:39] Speaker 1: and Bobby went running and threw the front door open.
[0:43] Speaker 1: On the other side of the door were all of
[0:45] Speaker 1: his friends, kids from the neighborhood and from school, crowded
[0:50] Speaker 1: around with presents. They all began to sing, Happy birthday
[0:57] Speaker 1: to you. and a big smile beamed on Billy's face.
[1:03] Speaker 1: You all came, he cried happily. Bobby's friends piled in
[1:08] Speaker 1: his house, and each one gave him their presents. Bobby
[1:12] Speaker 1: made a big pile with the presents and said once
[1:16] Speaker 1: they'd played outside and had cake, he'd go in and
[1:19] Speaker 1: unwrap them. All of the kids went outside and chased
[1:23] Speaker 1: each other around and played games. Boy, this was going
[1:27] Speaker 1: to be Bobby's best birthday ever. His friend Sherman had
[1:32] Speaker 1: a paper crown on, going around saying, I am the king.
[1:37] Speaker 1: You all must do what I say. Let's get out
[1:41] Speaker 1: the trampoline, and on it we will play. Bobby, Sally,
[1:46] Speaker 1: and Teddy, two kids from Bobby's school, all pulled the
[1:50] Speaker 1: trampoline from the corner of the yard, huffing and puffing
[1:54] Speaker 1: as they yanked the metal frame out. Boy, it was heavy.
[1:59] Speaker 1: Bobby hadn't had the trampoline out for almost a whole year.
[2:03] Speaker 1: He sure hoped it was okay to jump on. Before
[2:07] Speaker 1: he knew it, kids began piling onto the trampoline and
[2:11] Speaker 1: jumping up and down. There were three kids, then four, five, six.
[2:18] Speaker 1: They kept coming until the trampoline was completely full. They
[2:22] Speaker 1: jumped up and down, up and down, all at the
[2:26] Speaker 1: same time. Suddenly, as they all hit the trampoline and
[2:30] Speaker 1: went up, an odd rumble rippled through the ground. Everyone
[2:35] Speaker 1: looked at one another as everything began to shake. What
[2:41] Speaker 1: was happening? Then, as all the kids on the trampoline
[2:45] Speaker 1: bounced on its springy surface, the whole ground beneath the
[2:49] Speaker 1: trampoline gave way with a crash. Oh, no! The trampoline
[2:54] Speaker 1: sank into the ground, and all the kids on it
[2:57] Speaker 1: shouted in shock. But the ground underneath hadn't sunk into
[3:02] Speaker 1: a hole. It had given way to a secret slime pit.
[3:07] Speaker 1: All the kids jumped off the trampoline and looked down
[3:10] Speaker 1: into the slime pit. Whoa, said Sherman, wearing his paper crown.
[3:18] Speaker 1: Look at all the colors. The slime curdled in bright
[3:22] Speaker 1: pinks and greens and blues. It was just like a
[3:26] Speaker 1: big pool of the slime you could buy at the store.
[3:30] Speaker 1: Sally stuck her hand in the slime and said, ew,
[3:35] Speaker 1: it's so, so, so slimy. All the kids laughed hard.
[3:42] Speaker 1: Sherman laughed the hardest. Boy, that Sherman could be annoying.
[3:47] Speaker 1: So Sally put her hand in the slime and pulled
[3:49] Speaker 1: out a big, purple handful and threw it at Sherman.
[3:54] Speaker 1: The slime flew through the air and went splat right
[3:58] Speaker 1: in Sherman's face. Everyone started to laugh. Kids were holding
[4:03] Speaker 1: their bellies with laughter as Sherman slurped the goo from
[4:07] Speaker 1: his face. Sherman held a finger in the air and said, one, two, three, four,
[4:14] Speaker 1: I declare a slime war. All the kids dunked their
[4:20] Speaker 1: hands in the slime pit and started to throw the
[4:22] Speaker 1: gross goo at one another. Bobby grabbed two handfuls of
[4:27] Speaker 1: slime and threw it at the Thompson twins from the
[4:30] Speaker 1: end of the block. He got them perfectly on the chest. Splat! Splat!
[4:38] Speaker 1: The End
