In this solo episode of the Arts to Hearts Podcast, Charuka Arora, Founder of the Arts to Hearts Project pulls back the curtain on what it actually takes to make an Arts to Hearts book. From the six-month timeline behind every release, to running open calls, jury processes, and curating both emerging and established artists, Charuka walks through the full publishing journey. She also gets honest about the mess: the factory mix-up that turned a soft-cover magazine into a hard-cover sample, the 4-step proofing process her small team relies on to catch errors, and the 300+ artist interviews they handle every single month. If you've ever wondered what goes into building a contemporary art publication from scratch including the parts no one shows you this one's for you.

Charuka: Arts2Huts started with the idea of pushing forward women in the arts so it is women artists, curators, galleries, anybody but we also try to bring forward the works of other men and other... This is an upcoming issue. Being... it's like a soft cover magazine. Let's see! Okay, so I have a new latest release. This month's book release right in my hand. Basically, I thought I would take you through the process of how and what we do and how long it takes and maybe answer a few questions behind the scenes while I do that and I also show you the book in that process and give you a better insight of what it looks like. So typically how we structure our books is probably let's say I think into two, three parts. The first part is what we focus on is the curated section. So each book has like a curated section of artists that we, you know, launch an open call for and we say like, okay, you know, This is the theme we working on, this is the kind of work we are looking for and if you are an artist, probably it could be an open call for only women artists, it could be an open call for all kinds of artists, it could be anything, right? So we say, okay, we want these kind of topics and we are looking for this kind of work. It could be medium specific, it could be theme specific, it could be gender specific. So it completely depends on the kind of project we do. For example, this one, this book that we started was... focused on photography. So we made a call out for photographers. Artists could submit. Of course there was an application fee so that we can make this project and the business viable in the long term. sustainable project. The other part what we do is to make this editorial a good combination in the sense of we break the book into a couple of parts. The first part is
