[0:11] Speaker 1: I'm gonna still stick with my prediction that JJ McCarthy
[0:17] Speaker 1: will if he does have success. It's a little bit
[0:21] Speaker 1: of a brock Pretty thing. It's the coach, it's the
[0:23] Speaker 1: left tackle, it's the weapons that will put him in
[0:26] Speaker 1: a place that I think elevates him beyond what he
[0:28] Speaker 1: would be with average personnel, average coach or bad. I
[0:33] Speaker 1: don't think brock Party is good enough to save a
[0:35] Speaker 1: bad situation, but I think in the current situation with
[0:37] Speaker 1: Trent Williams, Kittle, Jennings, Shanahan, McCaffrey, I think more than capable,
[0:44] Speaker 1: I tend to think McCarthy's going to fall into that.
[0:47] Speaker 1: I mean left tackle, head coach, running back, tight end.
[0:52] Speaker 1: I think I think JJ McCarthy would have to be
[0:55] Speaker 1: bad not to have some brock Pretty level success where
[0:59] Speaker 1: you know, oh, he's not a physical specimen, but he
[1:02] Speaker 1: can complete passes and move the chains.
[1:04] Speaker 2: I do think though he you know, brock Purdy got
[1:06] Speaker 2: to come in toward middle of the end of the year, right,
[1:10] Speaker 2: so there was less pressure, and let's face it, when
[1:12] Speaker 2: Jimmy Garoppolo shattered his ankle, that the expectations for brock
[1:16] Speaker 2: Purty were zilch. I mean I thought their season was over,
[1:19] Speaker 2: and then the kid just started rattling off games. You know,
[1:22] Speaker 2: for JJ McCarthy, a little like Trey Lance when the
[1:25] Speaker 2: forty nine ers drafted him, kind of like Caleb, but
[1:28] Speaker 2: we didn't really believe in Eberflus. It's pretty rare that
[1:31] Speaker 2: a guy that was drafted pretty high starts on a
[1:33] Speaker 2: team that, what do you think is a fair expectations
[1:36] Speaker 2: anything less than the NFC Championship game with their roster,
[1:39] Speaker 2: their coaching staff. It's really really high, you know, It's
[1:43] Speaker 2: not like nine to eight and some growing pains. You know,
[1:46] Speaker 2: justin Jefferson had some comments within the last week. You
[1:49] Speaker 2: can just tell it's like our expectations here are high,
[1:53] Speaker 2: and it's like this is a work in progress.
[1:55] Speaker 3: Now.
[1:55] Speaker 2: The good thing is you can get better, right He
[1:58] Speaker 2: might not be same with Caleb saying, with a lot
[2:00] Speaker 2: of these guys, what they look like in September, they
[2:03] Speaker 2: might look a lot better in November. But it can
[2:05] Speaker 2: go the other way too. It can break you. So
[2:07] Speaker 2: if you have a couple of tough games, how do
[2:09] Speaker 2: you handle that adversity? That's that's really what all the
[2:12] Speaker 2: NFL is right, is handling the tough times to get
[2:14] Speaker 2: to the better times.
[2:15] Speaker 1: I was reading somebody in the Athletic rank the coaching staffs,
[2:18] Speaker 1: and I didn't disagree. He had Minnesota as the best
[2:21] Speaker 1: coaching staff in the league. I think he had San
[2:23] Speaker 1: Francisco with Kyle and solid two.
[2:25] Speaker 2: Are you talking the whole staff?
[2:28] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean basically head coach, top two coordinators. He
[2:31] Speaker 1: had Minnesota number one. And I think, and I've said
[2:33] Speaker 1: this about brock Purty. I mean literally he got the
[2:36] Speaker 1: keys to a Mercedes. You get Shanahan, McCaffrey, Trent Williams
[2:40] Speaker 1: at the time, Debo Iu Kittle. I mean that's hard
[2:44] Speaker 1: to mess up. I mean, if you're just capable, if
[2:46] Speaker 1: you're quick above the shoulders, which I think JJ McCarthy
[2:48] Speaker 1: and Brock Purty are. I think they're smart guys. The
[2:53] Speaker 1: downside to it is it's not it's a hard eval
[2:58] Speaker 1: It's hard to evaluate somebody when they're I mean, it
[3:02] Speaker 1: would be like putting somebody with Charles Barklay Shack and
[3:07] Speaker 1: Ernie Johnson. It's hard to really say what. Kenny Smith
[3:10] Speaker 1: is certainly capable, but his role on that show is
[3:15] Speaker 1: to kind of poke the bear and just kind of
[3:17] Speaker 1: have fun and be the straight man, and so it
[3:20] Speaker 1: is hard to make. It's an easy evaluation on Jaden
[3:23] Speaker 1: Daniels last year. Oh shit, he's carrying a bad online,
[3:28] Speaker 1: a defensive coach, a one weapon offense.
[3:32] Speaker 4: Wow.
[3:32] Speaker 1: It's like Andrew luck easy a Herbert's rookie year. Wow,
[3:36] Speaker 1: this is impressive. I think JJ's going to be a
[3:39] Speaker 1: hard evaluation because how much of the success is based.
[3:43] Speaker 4: On I mean, let's be honest.
[3:45] Speaker 1: Last year, in Week fourteen, Sam Darnald was first or
[3:49] Speaker 1: second in MVP. He was a bust going to Minnesota.
[3:53] Speaker 1: So like now, I don't even know quite what to
[3:57] Speaker 1: make of Donald.
[3:58] Speaker 4: What is Donald?
[4:00] Speaker 2: Well, I'm pretty high, I think Donald. I think their
[4:02] Speaker 2: team's going to be pretty good, you know, giving health,
[4:05] Speaker 2: the talent in Seattle, I would expect, you know, pretty
[4:07] Speaker 2: high things for Sam, maybe not throw thirty five touchdowns,
[4:10] Speaker 2: but to just be a solid player in the NFL
[4:12] Speaker 2: moving forward, you know, be a guy that's on the
[4:15] Speaker 2: good side of the top fifteen of the quarterbacks, not
[4:18] Speaker 2: you know, somewhere between twenty two and thirty two, like
[4:21] Speaker 2: most people thought he just sucked. But one thing, going
[4:23] Speaker 2: back to Donald, he said that change his career was
[4:26] Speaker 2: not just Kyle believing him, but watching brock Purty operate.
[4:30] Speaker 2: And the thing that separated brock Purty immediately was not
[4:33] Speaker 2: his height, was not his arm strength. It was all
[4:36] Speaker 2: the intangible stuff which he had built for four years
[4:40] Speaker 2: at let's face it, when he got there kind of
[4:42] Speaker 2: an average football program that him and Matt Campbell transitioned
[4:46] Speaker 2: into a high level football program where he was getting
[4:49] Speaker 2: offered by USC and that big reason was because of
[4:52] Speaker 2: brock Purty, you know. I mean, let's face it, mel
[4:54] Speaker 2: Tucker got some big jobs because you know, got a
[4:57] Speaker 2: huge extension because of Kenneth Walker. Sometimes one or two individuals, yeah,
[5:01] Speaker 2: at not the top tier programs can change the course
[5:04] Speaker 2: of your career. So brock Purdy, his intangibles are a
[5:08] Speaker 2: huge separating factor for why you know, all the guys
[5:12] Speaker 2: with the forty nine ers, coaches and players believe in them,
[5:14] Speaker 2: you know, JJ, He's just gonna have to prove it,
[5:17] Speaker 2: you know, and it's gonna have to be part of
[5:19] Speaker 2: his repertoire. Are you getting there at five in the morning,
[5:22] Speaker 2: Are you grinding Monday through Saturday? Because that's all these quarterbacks,
[5:26] Speaker 2: that's all they talk about. It's not just the grind
[5:28] Speaker 2: on Tom Brady's been talking about Mondays and Tuesdays for
[5:31] Speaker 2: fifteen years.
[5:33] Speaker 1: So you and I both agree on this that the
[5:36] Speaker 1: Terry McLaurin situation in Washington is troubling. So I liked
[5:44] Speaker 1: the Deebo acquisition because he's a chess piece and Cliff
[5:47] Speaker 1: Kingsbury would be. You know, a play designer is good
[5:50] Speaker 1: with chess pieces, but Debo is not as good consistently,
[5:55] Speaker 1: or as healthy consistently, or as productive consistently as Terry McLaurin.
[5:58] Speaker 1: And Terry's been the guy that's been I mean because
[6:00] Speaker 1: of where he was drafted. Terry hasn't gotten the huge
[6:03] Speaker 1: payday yet. In fact, you could argue before amor On
[6:07] Speaker 1: Saint Brown's contract that McLaurin and omor On Saint Brown
[6:10] Speaker 1: are the most under underpaid weapons in the league. So
[6:14] Speaker 1: I actually get Terry McLaurin saying guys like I have
[6:19] Speaker 1: outperformed my contract fourfold. Deebo is a guy that's not
[6:24] Speaker 1: going to be a center piece, more of a chess piece,
[6:27] Speaker 1: struggles to stay healthy. No, no, no, no this, I'm not
[6:32] Speaker 1: doing any team favors on this.
[6:34] Speaker 4: I kind of side with Terry mcclaurin.
[6:37] Speaker 5: Here.
[6:37] Speaker 2: You Belichick talked about this for a long time, the
[6:41] Speaker 2: locker room dynamics and money. I mean, you're dealing with
[6:43] Speaker 2: young people who value themselves based on their contract relative
[6:47] Speaker 2: to their peers. You know, it's hard with NFL contracts
[6:50] Speaker 2: because it's convoluted, because a signing bonus is and pro
[6:53] Speaker 2: rated money. But basically they make a very similar amount
[6:56] Speaker 2: of actual cash going into their bank account week one
[6:59] Speaker 2: through seven this year, Debo and Terry McLaurin last time
[7:02] Speaker 2: I checked. Terry McLaurin had thirteen touchdowns last year and
[7:05] Speaker 2: it was a massive reason that Jayden Daniels became a star.
[7:08] Speaker 2: And if you're him, like what about all the sweat
[7:10] Speaker 2: equity when this franchise was a joke. Yeah, I was
[7:13] Speaker 2: the good guy doing the right thing. You bring in
[7:15] Speaker 2: this other guy who is the GM's guy right from
[7:19] Speaker 2: the forty nine ers, but he peaked, you know, part
[7:21] Speaker 2: of the reasons Kyle got rid of him. He's like
[7:23] Speaker 2: chubby wide receiver. When do you ever hear about that, Like,
[7:26] Speaker 2: couldn't stay in shape, got moodies, asked for trades before.
[7:29] Speaker 2: Now he comes and we're making similar money. These are
[7:32] Speaker 2: human beings, right, I totally understand, Like that's not really
[7:36] Speaker 2: I feel like a part of the reporting. It's not
[7:38] Speaker 2: like and Terry would come out and say I'm jealous
[7:41] Speaker 2: or angry because but you can't tell me that didn't
[7:43] Speaker 2: play a part. You think I'm gonna make the same
[7:45] Speaker 2: amount of money as this guy. You know we're both
[7:47] Speaker 2: in contract years. Yet I this is my team, which
[7:50] Speaker 2: I've been here from day one. You just bring in
[7:52] Speaker 2: this guy. I also wonder if it showed him like
[7:55] Speaker 2: what this administration they weren't my people, So I better
[7:58] Speaker 2: be pretty careful now. They're gonna want me to like
[8:00] Speaker 2: on the line now. But what if I get hurt
[8:02] Speaker 2: and then I can't get a contract after this year?
[8:03] Speaker 2: They don't care. They'll just move on. Because wide receivers
[8:06] Speaker 2: this isn't you know, tackle or defensive ends not it's not.
[8:09] Speaker 2: It's a pretty easy position to replace. Even if Debo fails.
[8:13] Speaker 2: They could just draft a guy next year in the
[8:14] Speaker 2: first round or the second round, or hit on a
[8:15] Speaker 2: guy in the fourth round. Who knows, maybe McCaffrey's brother
[8:18] Speaker 2: becomes a fifty catch guy. It's an easy you could argue,
[8:21] Speaker 2: it's the easiest position now to find.
[8:23] Speaker 1: Oh I can name off the top of my head
[8:25] Speaker 1: the tank Dells and the Puka Nakuas and the Amora
[8:28] Speaker 1: on Saint Brown's rounds four or five, Jennings and San Francisco's.
[8:31] Speaker 1: I think it's seventh round guy wide receivers easily now.
[8:35] Speaker 1: Now it can be the most inflammable and bustable first
[8:39] Speaker 1: round pick because they come in.
[8:41] Speaker 4: You know, it's an ego position.
[8:43] Speaker 1: They come in the first round, but by and large
[8:46] Speaker 1: it's I just I look at Terry McLaurin and I
[8:50] Speaker 1: tried to personalize it, and I'm thinking, he's been a
[8:52] Speaker 1: good guy, he's been productive, he was the star. He is,
[8:57] Speaker 1: to a large degree, is the one thing you could
[8:59] Speaker 1: build Aiden Daniels around, not the old line of the
[9:02] Speaker 1: run game or tight end. I think you have to
[9:05] Speaker 1: take care of him. And for the record, I wouldn't
[9:09] Speaker 1: have said this ten years ago, but you can pay
[9:12] Speaker 1: two weapons now and they're not paying a running back
[9:14] Speaker 1: big money or a tight end like ten years ago.
[9:17] Speaker 1: The money was dispersed often more on the defense than offense.
[9:20] Speaker 1: In New England it was I mean Brady was taking
[9:22] Speaker 1: cuts in the NFL. Now, the Rams like the Rams,
[9:27] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, they pay like one defensive player. So I'm
[9:32] Speaker 1: okay paying two weapons. I'm okay with t Higgins and
[9:35] Speaker 1: Jamar Chase, I'm okay with it.
[9:37] Speaker 2: Well, imagine if you're terry too. So you look around
[9:39] Speaker 2: and you go listen. I'm not even comparing myself to
[9:43] Speaker 2: Jamar Chase or Ceedee Lamb or Justin Jefferson, but let's
[9:47] Speaker 2: go dk Metcalf the next year. Guys who early on
[9:49] Speaker 2: in his career had like the greatest start ever. Last
[9:52] Speaker 2: couple of years have been weird. The guy that gets
[9:53] Speaker 2: penalties every game, and Seattle's like, yeah, we're kind of
[9:56] Speaker 2: out of this business. He said, he asked for a trade.
[9:59] Speaker 2: I think they were ready to pivot, and he goes, well,
[10:02] Speaker 2: he just gets one hundred and fifty million dollars and
[10:04] Speaker 2: sixty seventy million dollars in guaranteed, and he's a question
[10:07] Speaker 2: mark of like can you corral this guy? He's like
[10:09] Speaker 2: a better version of some of these crazy guys. I
[10:12] Speaker 2: am everything you would want, character check all these boxes
[10:16] Speaker 2: and I produce and I can't get you. Guys won't
[10:20] Speaker 2: even offer me anything. So they want him, and it's
[10:22] Speaker 2: the NFL. It's cut thrown. I totally understand it, but
[10:25] Speaker 2: I think they want him just to play this season
[10:27] Speaker 2: on the fifteen million dollars and then evaluate after that. Now,
[10:31] Speaker 2: this is this isn't the NBA, right when these guys
[10:34] Speaker 2: ask for trades like you don't just he's gone, Like
[10:36] Speaker 2: that's not how they're going to operate. And I think
[10:39] Speaker 2: these guys know now that they'll get fined and they
[10:40] Speaker 2: can't take them back. So they show up so they
[10:43] Speaker 2: don't get fifty thousand dollars a day, but they don't
[10:47] Speaker 2: really have to do anything. But is it worth having
[10:50] Speaker 2: this guy who's kind of the heartbeat of your one
[10:52] Speaker 2: of the heart beats team got being mad in a
[10:55] Speaker 2: weird mood like the expectations for Washington. This is why
[10:57] Speaker 2: it's hard. And all these coaches say, what happened last
[11:00] Speaker 2: year is kind of irrelevant this year because guys want
[11:02] Speaker 2: to get paid. Guys got injured, some guys are gone,
[11:04] Speaker 2: but every team is they had nothing but good vibes
[11:07] Speaker 2: last year. Now this year it's like huh yeah no.
[11:10] Speaker 1: And the other thing is, this is not the NBA
[11:12] Speaker 1: where it's hard to name a player whose career was
[11:15] Speaker 1: ended because of an injury. It's the same in baseball
[11:18] Speaker 1: outside of pitchers and arms. I mean, baseball careers can
[11:23] Speaker 1: last forever. In football, it's just one shot to the knee.
[11:27] Speaker 1: You're not the same wide receiver. So like I get
[11:29] Speaker 1: the psychology of mclaurin's, Like, bro, I'm taking I take
[11:33] Speaker 1: hits at practice. Like we can all name ten pro
[11:37] Speaker 1: football careers have been ended early because of injuries. It
[11:40] Speaker 1: doesn't happen in basketball and baseball or hockey as much.
[11:45] Speaker 1: So I get mclaurin's. There's a certain insecurity about football players.
[11:49] Speaker 1: I get I want to get paid.
[11:50] Speaker 2: Totally, and I think they see it at training camp
[11:52] Speaker 2: and we're numb to it as fans and coaches and
[11:55] Speaker 2: gms don't care. But you see guys every single day.
[11:58] Speaker 2: So and so shattered his leg, so and so ripped
[12:00] Speaker 2: his achilles a lot of times. It's like the seventy
[12:02] Speaker 2: fifth man, So no one cares. Those players are standing
[12:05] Speaker 2: there right in that drill and see the cart come out,
[12:08] Speaker 2: and they knew that guy help. It might be their buddy.
[12:10] Speaker 2: They might have been eating lunch with them, was on
[12:11] Speaker 2: the practice squad, They've been hanging out with them for
[12:13] Speaker 2: a couple of years. They see that cart leaving with
[12:15] Speaker 2: his helmet, they go, his career could be over, and
[12:19] Speaker 2: then a couple of days later he's waved injured. And
[12:21] Speaker 2: so for every time that we see well, because I
[12:23] Speaker 2: always say this, most good players see the majority of
[12:27] Speaker 2: their contract, like Russell Wilson is kind of an outline
[12:30] Speaker 2: if you look at the landscape of the league, all
[12:32] Speaker 2: the top players. Because we haven't had catastrophic injury to
[12:35] Speaker 2: a lot of the top players in recent years, they're
[12:38] Speaker 2: seeing all the guaranteed money and the non guaranteed money
[12:41] Speaker 2: of their contract. But it's just I wouldn't take that
[12:45] Speaker 2: risk if our any of these guys either, because all
[12:47] Speaker 2: it takes is one guy fall in India and your
[12:50] Speaker 2: career is done, or you're just never the same and
[12:52] Speaker 2: all of a sudden you go from a twenty million
[12:53] Speaker 2: dollar player to a veteran minimum guy.
[12:56] Speaker 1: So Mike Brown's the old owner of the Bengals, and
[12:59] Speaker 1: he kind of lashed out and said, you know, the
[13:02] Speaker 1: Trey Hendricks and stuff.
[13:03] Speaker 3: You know, he goes.
[13:04] Speaker 1: A lot of media makes good points, but a lot
[13:06] Speaker 1: of media is just talking. And I was thinking about
[13:10] Speaker 1: it as I was flying from Rhode Island back to
[13:12] Speaker 1: Chicago tonight. It is hard to have an a level
[13:18] Speaker 1: quarterback and missed the playoffs. Fourteen of the thirty two
[13:21] Speaker 1: teams make it, so forty percent of the league makes it.
[13:26] Speaker 1: Joe Burrow, there's an argument, was the most efficient quarterback
[13:30] Speaker 1: in the league last year. It's much more than Mahomes,
[13:33] Speaker 1: So there was an argument on a week to week
[13:35] Speaker 1: basis just efficiency quarterback rating, Burrow was the best.
[13:39] Speaker 4: Quarterback in the league last year. But think about this
[13:42] Speaker 4: in an offensive.
[13:42] Speaker 1: League and they didn't make the playoffs.
[13:46] Speaker 4: They didn't make it.
[13:48] Speaker 1: That's almost john impossible in the NFL in twenty twenty
[13:52] Speaker 1: four to twenty five. If your quarterback, I mean it's
[13:55] Speaker 1: you don't even have to have a great quarterback. You
[13:57] Speaker 1: can have a quarterback having a great year. Sam Darnold,
[13:59] Speaker 1: you're gonna win thirteen twelve, thirteen fourteen games. They didn't
[14:03] Speaker 1: make the playoffs. And the reason they didn't make the playoffs.
[14:08] Speaker 1: So you say, well it's the coach, Well then fire him. Well,
[14:11] Speaker 1: they won't do that because you'd have to pay out
[14:13] Speaker 1: a couple of years the contract is is we so
[14:17] Speaker 1: Trey Hendrickson, They literally I think they're thirty second in
[14:21] Speaker 1: quarterback pressures without Trey Hendrickson like he is their pass
[14:24] Speaker 1: rush and they're I mean, he's it, He's the pass
[14:28] Speaker 1: rush and there I mean, listen, Philadelphia can get pressure
[14:32] Speaker 1: on the quarterback whe or without Jalen Carter. Jalen Carter
[14:34] Speaker 1: is the game changer. He's like one of one, his
[14:37] Speaker 1: body type, his quickness, Hendrickson's not great against the run,
[14:41] Speaker 1: but he is their pass rush. But this is like
[14:45] Speaker 1: the fourth straight year. There's a contract squabble here, there's
[14:47] Speaker 1: there's a third straight year. Do you think if Cincinnati
[14:52] Speaker 1: doesn't make the playoffs again and and and will give
[14:55] Speaker 1: Burrow another great year because he's a great player. Do
[14:59] Speaker 1: you think Burrow would just say just go scorts to
[15:02] Speaker 1: Earth and.
[15:03] Speaker 4: Say because I do.
[15:05] Speaker 3: I think.
[15:05] Speaker 1: I think Joe is bright, self aware. You're starting to
[15:09] Speaker 1: see him now do stuff in Paris in the offseason.
[15:11] Speaker 1: He is so frustrated with the organization, he gets away
[15:15] Speaker 1: from it, like he goes abroad. He's not gonna stay
[15:18] Speaker 1: in Ohio. I think if they I think they're the
[15:22] Speaker 1: fascinating team. If Cincinnati misses the playoffs, I think Joe
[15:26] Speaker 1: Burrow and his representatives may get ugly.
[15:29] Speaker 2: The problem is we've seen how Mike Brown operates in
[15:31] Speaker 2: that scenario, he just tells you to kick rocks. Either
[15:34] Speaker 2: with Carson Palmer, He's done it this offseason, He's done
[15:36] Speaker 2: it in years past. I think they like the Bears last year,
[15:41] Speaker 2: it's like, you should have fired I Reflute, you could
[15:42] Speaker 2: have hired Mike Vrabel and you're probably a playoff team
[15:44] Speaker 2: in Caleb No one, We're not even talking about it.
[15:46] Speaker 2: He's just solid, right, he just would have worked. And
[15:49] Speaker 2: this offseason the Chargers went through this forever like Anthony Lynn,
[15:52] Speaker 2: Mike McCoy, Brandon Staley says, hire a real coach. What
[15:56] Speaker 2: did they finally do Jim Harbaugh? Who does everyone boughts
[16:00] Speaker 2: for the last two years? The Chargers Why because they
[16:02] Speaker 2: got a real coach and this is a team. Imagine
[16:04] Speaker 2: if they had fired Zach Taylor last year. Like obviously
[16:07] Speaker 2: the Bears being in Chicago is a hard job to
[16:10] Speaker 2: pass up, especially they're gonna pay a lot of money.
[16:13] Speaker 2: But to coach Joe Burrow, I mean, I'm sorry, like
[16:17] Speaker 2: you're kind of remembered on wins and losses, not just
[16:19] Speaker 2: like well I coached the Bears. Well if you lost,
[16:21] Speaker 2: no one cares, right, no one's really talking about Matt Maggie, right,
[16:24] Speaker 2: he would rather coach Joe Burrow than mis Tubisky. So
[16:27] Speaker 2: does do they get Ben Johnson to just Mike Vrabel, like, Hey,
[16:30] Speaker 2: I want that job over Drake. It's Joe Burrow. So
[16:34] Speaker 2: I think that it's hard to overcome this when you
[16:36] Speaker 2: hire chief coaches, and that's kind of listen. Zach Taylor's
[16:40] Speaker 2: probably a nice guy, and you know, solid NFL mind,
[16:44] Speaker 2: but we're not talking Sean McVay, Kyle Shanning. He's not
[16:46] Speaker 2: super dynamic. The organization isn't super dynamic. But you can
[16:49] Speaker 2: overcome that. Like, no one ever said that about the
[16:51] Speaker 2: Chargers till they got Jim Harbaugh and then they said
[16:52] Speaker 2: Jim Harba said to listen, but you want me, I
[16:54] Speaker 2: need X, Y and Z. And now they're paying big
[16:56] Speaker 2: money for all these people and you feel.
[16:58] Speaker 3: Good about them.
[16:59] Speaker 1: But the difference is the LA market and the deal
[17:02] Speaker 1: that Dean Spanos has, you know, like the dollar a
[17:06] Speaker 1: year lease is they are swimming in cash because the
[17:10] Speaker 1: LA market drives so much revenue. Cincinnati doesn't. Their game
[17:13] Speaker 1: day revenue is near the bottom of the league. So
[17:16] Speaker 1: Brown won't pay fifteen million for a coach and twenty
[17:20] Speaker 1: four million for a staff. I don't think they'll pay
[17:24] Speaker 1: half that, whereas Spanos can go listen so.
[17:27] Speaker 4: Far as a bank so far is unbelievable.
[17:30] Speaker 2: Or if they won't, Joe Burrow's got to ask out then
[17:32] Speaker 2: soon because you know, or their team's good enough they
[17:35] Speaker 2: can overcome it. But if that's the case, they go
[17:37] Speaker 2: nine to eight and they miss it again, it's clear
[17:39] Speaker 2: that their coaching staff sucks. They fire them, and then
[17:41] Speaker 2: next year, whoever the hot guy is, they end up
[17:43] Speaker 2: with a third tier guy. It's like, you gotta get
[17:45] Speaker 2: out because this is we've seen this song and dance.
[17:47] Speaker 2: I saw Antonio Gates point at Philip Rivers. Let's face it.
[17:51] Speaker 2: I mean, they didn't exactly have the greatest coaches a
[17:54] Speaker 2: lot of their prime I mean, can you imagine if
[17:57] Speaker 2: those two guys would have had a Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahana,
[17:59] Speaker 2: Kevin o'k who knows the way we talk about that
[18:02] Speaker 2: run of like I remember those four out of the
[18:05] Speaker 2: last seven years the Chargers have been in the championship
[18:07] Speaker 2: game and made a couple of Super Bowls. And that's
[18:09] Speaker 2: the difference of just like, oh that one time Joe
[18:11] Speaker 2: Burrow made the Super Bowl or he's going competing to
[18:14] Speaker 2: go to the Super Bowl every single year. So you
[18:15] Speaker 2: would have to short the Browns or excuse me, the
[18:18] Speaker 2: Bengals because usually an owner old guy like Jerry. I've
[18:22] Speaker 2: known a lot of older businessmen that usually don't become
[18:25] Speaker 2: more open minded in their mid seventies. That's not how
[18:29] Speaker 2: it works, so this is not changing with the Brown family.

[19:58] Speaker 1: So just from Afar, you know you have to be
[20:02] Speaker 1: careful about OTA's and mini camps and camps. So the
[20:06] Speaker 1: mica thing from Afar feels like a circus. But when
[20:09] Speaker 1: you're covering it, does it feel like a circus?
[20:13] Speaker 2: Yeah?
[20:14] Speaker 5: I mean I've seen a circus, and it involved Terrell
[20:18] Speaker 5: Owens and his arrival here and the cryo chamber or
[20:23] Speaker 5: whatever he had, the barometric pressure that he brought out,
[20:27] Speaker 5: all the weird stuff he had that was circus like.
[20:31] Speaker 5: But yeah, this is it's a circus from the outside
[20:35] Speaker 5: and here because you have the star player out there. Yesterday,
[20:40] Speaker 5: I got out early to practice and watched him and
[20:43] Speaker 5: he did not wear his team issued jersey, which Schottenheimer
[20:47] Speaker 5: wanted him to wear, and then they went and talked
[20:50] Speaker 5: to him and convinced him to put on his jersey.
[20:52] Speaker 5: But I'm just no, matter what's happening in camp, it's
[20:57] Speaker 5: like looms over everything. And so I have been at
[21:01] Speaker 5: Camp four when there's a big thing going on in
[21:04] Speaker 5: a huge trade.
[21:05] Speaker 3: I remember the Eagles beat the.
[21:08] Speaker 5: Cowboys to Ocean Wah, you know, the big the cornerback
[21:12] Speaker 5: that Nomdae Oceanwah one year, and boy Jerry's beating over
[21:16] Speaker 5: that deal because he was trying to get a deal
[21:17] Speaker 5: and that was all happening in real time, but we
[21:19] Speaker 5: watched it all happening.
[21:21] Speaker 3: And this is a little bit like that.
[21:23] Speaker 2: In that daily we're.
[21:25] Speaker 5: Spending as much time with our cameras in our eyes
[21:30] Speaker 5: on Micah as we are what's happening on the field.
[21:33] Speaker 5: It's too bad because I think while Micah Shodenheimer have
[21:38] Speaker 5: really developed a nice report, I feel like it's overshadowing
[21:42] Speaker 5: and somewhat undermining his full operation.
[21:45] Speaker 1: Well, I mean lost in all of it is the
[21:48] Speaker 1: fact that George Pickens a really difficult guy to cover.
[21:52] Speaker 1: I mean, he's very He's a very gifted guy. Emotional,
[21:56] Speaker 1: can be juvenile, but with Ceedee Lamb and George pick
[22:00] Speaker 1: it's just pure in terms of pure talent. Those are
[22:03] Speaker 1: tremendously gifted receivers. What are we getting from that side
[22:08] Speaker 1: of the football? Football related Dak CD and.
[22:11] Speaker 5: Pickens, you know, I would say, and we had a
[22:17] Speaker 5: good long visit with Pickens yesterday doing our Doomsday podcast.
[22:23] Speaker 5: We had murder and you talk about a guy who
[22:26] Speaker 5: is in heaven.
[22:27] Speaker 3: I mean it's remarkable.
[22:28] Speaker 5: And he and CD together, it's the best duo they've
[22:32] Speaker 5: had in many years. You know, CD and Amari Cooper
[22:38] Speaker 5: were together. I think there's the potential because now CD's
[22:42] Speaker 5: older and he's become a superstar, and Pickens is in
[22:47] Speaker 5: such a good headspace because he needed to get out
[22:51] Speaker 5: of Pittsburgh it's a contract year. It's just like the
[22:54] Speaker 5: opposite of Micah's thing. Micah is just this all this
[22:57] Speaker 5: drama George could not.
[22:59] Speaker 3: Be had, and he believes that he's in. You know,
[23:03] Speaker 3: I know we go back and forth on what Dak.
[23:05] Speaker 5: Prescott is, but what Dak Prescott is is way better
[23:09] Speaker 5: than anything the Steelers have had the past three seasons,
[23:12] Speaker 5: and so pull yesterday he said, I'm gonna go for
[23:15] Speaker 5: twelve hundred yards this season, and I wouldn't I wouldn't
[23:18] Speaker 5: doubt it because one thing they're trying to do is
[23:20] Speaker 5: instead of just throwing fades and vertical routes and go routes,
[23:24] Speaker 5: because they're hitting him on bubble.
[23:26] Speaker 3: Screens, drags crossers.
[23:29] Speaker 5: And I even watched him yesterday there was some something
[23:33] Speaker 5: the Cowboys do like on a rub route to get
[23:35] Speaker 5: CD open.
[23:36] Speaker 3: I mean, I'm just telling you.
[23:38] Speaker 5: This guy is the happiest guy in camp like that.
[23:41] Speaker 5: I came away from that George Pickens interview thinking I
[23:45] Speaker 5: have not seen you know, te O is always brooding
[23:48] Speaker 5: and weird, and again I had a really rough relationship
[23:52] Speaker 5: with him and all that, but this guy is just beaming.
[23:57] Speaker 3: Now I get it.
[23:57] Speaker 5: Let's let's see how he is when they don't prow
[23:59] Speaker 5: to him for whole game or something like that. But
[24:01] Speaker 5: right now, man, that those connections look good and what
[24:05] Speaker 5: it's done, it's freed up whoever's going to be. Third
[24:08] Speaker 5: wide receiver Jalen Tolbert Meingingo, Jalen Brooks, Like those guys
[24:12] Speaker 5: now have less pressure on them. And like yesterday, two
[24:16] Speaker 5: of those guys made like incredible circus catches And I
[24:20] Speaker 5: just think they have less pressure because they you have
[24:23] Speaker 5: two stars and they can just go be.
[24:25] Speaker 3: That's what Aikman always used.
[24:26] Speaker 5: To tell me, is that he cared more about the
[24:30] Speaker 5: third receiver than he did the second receiver. And what
[24:34] Speaker 5: it was is he just felt like with Alvin Harper
[24:37] Speaker 5: and Michael they paid so much attention that Chilvin Martin
[24:41] Speaker 5: was his favorite guy because he knew he was always
[24:43] Speaker 5: going to reopen.
[24:44] Speaker 3: So anyway, I would say right.
[24:46] Speaker 5: Now the receiving, the receivers plus the quarterback, that's a
[24:50] Speaker 5: very positive thing about this camp.
[24:53] Speaker 1: Well, the Live Tour makes it stop in Chicago. Just
[24:57] Speaker 1: part of the journey of Live and it's unique style
[25:01] Speaker 1: and its popularity. And anybody that listens to me knows
[25:03] Speaker 1: that I have supported the Live Tour from the beginning.
[25:06] Speaker 1: I never loved the way the PGA Tour, which was
[25:09] Speaker 1: officially a charity, treated some of its golfers. And I
[25:13] Speaker 1: had said for years that Greg Norman's and Phil Mickelson's
[25:16] Speaker 1: had verbally come out and said they were disappointed, and
[25:21] Speaker 1: so when they left, I supported them and still do.
[25:24] Speaker 1: Kevin naw also made that decision. And you know, when
[25:28] Speaker 1: I defended live golfers, one of the things I said was,
[25:31] Speaker 1: you know, these guys grew up wanting to be on
[25:34] Speaker 1: the PGA Tour. They dreamt of the US Open and
[25:37] Speaker 1: Pebble Beach and the Masters. So this was a hard decision.
[25:41] Speaker 1: A lot of people looked at the dollars and said, well,
[25:43] Speaker 1: it's easy now. When you have a dream and you
[25:47] Speaker 1: land it, it's hard to separate you from that dream.
[25:51] Speaker 1: Do you remember, Kevin, the day, the week, the car
[25:54] Speaker 1: ride when you and your family decided I'm going to
[25:58] Speaker 1: leave the PGA to two And do you remember the
[26:01] Speaker 1: emotional moment of that, the epiphany.
[26:04] Speaker 2: Yes, I do.
[26:05] Speaker 7: It wasn't an easy decision. I thought about it for
[26:09] Speaker 7: for weeks. I just discussed it with my team, my
[26:14] Speaker 7: family and even you know, I haven't had a top
[26:17] Speaker 7: with jam onhand before I left, Like I literally called them,
[26:19] Speaker 7: you know, with the pape when I had the offer
[26:21] Speaker 7: and I had the contract, and I waited a bunch
[26:24] Speaker 7: of options. But at the time, there were some of
[26:30] Speaker 7: the things that some of the players would have would
[26:32] Speaker 7: wanted to see changing the PGA Tour, the direction of
[26:34] Speaker 7: the PEDIA Tour, wanted to go, and none of those
[26:36] Speaker 7: things were happening. And when this living the lead was
[26:40] Speaker 7: forming and the offers were going out, and it was
[26:43] Speaker 7: a great opportunity for me because I played the PGA
[26:45] Speaker 7: Tour for nineteen years and I love it. I loved
[26:48] Speaker 7: every minute of it, and I was grateful to be there.
[26:51] Speaker 7: I enjoyed it. It was a great platform for me
[26:53] Speaker 7: to play, and I'm grateful and thankful. But when this
[26:58] Speaker 7: opportunity came along to play this team style with individual
[27:03] Speaker 7: team play around the world and at the same time,
[27:09] Speaker 7: you know, have some security, not that I didn't with
[27:11] Speaker 7: Pediatur you know, I was pretty successful out there as well,
[27:14] Speaker 7: but it sound like it was a new challenge and
[27:17] Speaker 7: it was exciting and a lot of the great names
[27:19] Speaker 7: of the game of the golf were joining, and I
[27:22] Speaker 7: wanted to be a part of it. I wanted to
[27:24] Speaker 7: be a part of this new adventure and that's the
[27:27] Speaker 7: reason why I made the job.
[27:29] Speaker 1: You know, I think they're initially in Like any change
[27:32] Speaker 1: in life, there's animosity. People don't like change. In America,
[27:37] Speaker 1: forty percent of Americans never live outside of the area
[27:42] Speaker 1: code they were born in. Isn't that crazy? So so
[27:46] Speaker 1: when there was change, I remember going on the air
[27:49] Speaker 1: and saying, yeah, there's going to be some animosity, there's
[27:52] Speaker 1: gonna be some emotion with it. Did do you think
[27:55] Speaker 1: that's dissipated over the last year, that that initial shock
[28:00] Speaker 1: is now Well, I can watch the Shambo at this tournament,
[28:03] Speaker 1: I can watch Kevin Nall here. Is that there's a
[28:06] Speaker 1: realization that this is what's happening in all business.
[28:11] Speaker 7: Yeah, I think in the beginning, you know, like you said,
[28:14] Speaker 7: people are not comfortable with change.
[28:17] Speaker 2: And when we were.
[28:19] Speaker 7: Making this chump, you know, the PGA tour, a lot
[28:21] Speaker 7: of the media, you know, they said it's not going
[28:23] Speaker 7: to happen, They're going to fold in six months, four months.
[28:25] Speaker 7: You know, it's never going to last. But we've the
[28:28] Speaker 7: league has proven that we're sticking around. And you know,
[28:32] Speaker 7: and when our players, you know Brooks want a major
[28:36] Speaker 7: rice and want a major when you know playing live
[28:39] Speaker 7: and where, and these guys are still playing well in
[28:42] Speaker 7: major championship and showing good performance and watching us grow.
[28:46] Speaker 7: They're starting to realize that we're not doing and we're
[28:48] Speaker 7: sticking around. And that's the same time when the PGA
[28:51] Speaker 7: Tour is asking for investment from p IF. Then you
[28:57] Speaker 7: know all those you know.
[29:00] Speaker 2: At tacks of.
[29:02] Speaker 7: Towards the players that made the first jump is kind
[29:04] Speaker 7: of it's been silenced a little bit.
[29:07] Speaker 1: I've always loved Phil Micholson and I read a I
[29:11] Speaker 1: don't think there's a book about him.
[29:13] Speaker 4: I don't think he loves the book.
[29:15] Speaker 1: But I loved him more when I read the book
[29:17] Speaker 1: because he's so unapologic, unapologetically Phil Mickelson. And there was
[29:22] Speaker 1: a point in his life he probably he probably ate
[29:25] Speaker 1: a little too much. He was a little more obnoxious
[29:28] Speaker 1: with tour members. Michelson's a character and but what I
[29:32] Speaker 1: love about him he leans into it. Now now you're
[29:36] Speaker 1: getting the older, more mature, wiser Phil Mickelson. Have you
[29:42] Speaker 1: watched him chain, I guess have you seen the change
[29:45] Speaker 1: in Phil in the last twenty years when you've been
[29:48] Speaker 1: around him ever, played with him, played against him.
[29:50] Speaker 4: Have you seen it?
[29:51] Speaker 7: Yeah, I've seen skinny Phil, shot Phil, gambling, Phil, drinking Phil. Look,
[29:58] Speaker 7: he's been nothing but great to me. First time I
[30:00] Speaker 7: played with him, I was twenty one years old. We
[30:03] Speaker 7: played in the final group. That's the first time I
[30:04] Speaker 7: put it in the final group at the Phoenix Open.
[30:07] Speaker 7: He ended up winning the term and I finished second.
[30:10] Speaker 7: And he's been nothing but great to him. You can
[30:12] Speaker 7: always go go to in ask for any advice, whether
[30:15] Speaker 7: it's golf, game, life, meeting you want, he would give
[30:19] Speaker 7: you his time, his sincerity. He's been nothing too great.
[30:23] Speaker 7: I think he is the same way right now to
[30:26] Speaker 7: all the younger kids out here. I think he's a
[30:30] Speaker 7: great leader. Like whether I don't not. Obviously, you know,
[30:35] Speaker 7: you can't please everybody, but a lot of the people
[30:38] Speaker 7: out here respect him, and I personally respect him, and
[30:41] Speaker 7: I'm a big fan of Phil, and I think what
[30:43] Speaker 7: he's done for the game of golf we had to
[30:46] Speaker 7: be thankful for.
[30:47] Speaker 1: I was not mature enough at twenty two to twenty
[30:49] Speaker 1: three to be like a professional quarterback in the NFL.
[30:53] Speaker 1: You know, the leader of a billion dollar franchise. You
[30:56] Speaker 1: guys are not on a team necessarily, although you are
[30:58] Speaker 1: the iron Heads on the LIB too now. But Bryson
[31:03] Speaker 1: de Shamble was a fascinating guy. I didn't love him
[31:05] Speaker 1: when he came out. I didn't like him. You know,
[31:08] Speaker 1: the thirteen pieces of bacon, the nine protein shakes. I'm like,
[31:12] Speaker 1: this feels like he's selling me something. It's too obnoxious.
[31:16] Speaker 1: He pivoted over the last two years. I find him
[31:20] Speaker 1: incredibly likable now. And I go back to he was young.
[31:26] Speaker 1: He was a good looking, big testosterone. Have you noticed
[31:31] Speaker 1: his personality. He feels a little humbled, a little more,
[31:36] Speaker 1: a little wiser. But I find him now incredibly likable,
[31:39] Speaker 1: and I didn't four years ago.
[31:42] Speaker 7: I always joked to him. I was like, look, I
[31:44] Speaker 7: was nice to you before you became a big star
[31:46] Speaker 7: and before you were likable.
[31:51] Speaker 2: I always liked.
[31:51] Speaker 7: Him from day one. You know. I remember talking to
[31:53] Speaker 7: him before when he wasn't playing so good, and you know,
[31:56] Speaker 7: when he was doing the side straddle, and I'll come
[31:58] Speaker 7: talk to him about on the putting green, what his
[32:01] Speaker 7: theories were. And I played with him in the QB
[32:04] Speaker 7: team play chart shootout. What a year?
[32:07] Speaker 3: What was this?
[32:07] Speaker 7: I can't even remember twenty seventeen or eighteen, whatever it was,
[32:10] Speaker 7: we've teamed up. We finished third, and I got to
[32:12] Speaker 7: know him pretty well then, how he played the game
[32:14] Speaker 7: and what his you know, all these calculations that he made,
[32:18] Speaker 7: and it was it was fascinating him. He would calculate
[32:20] Speaker 7: puts off the green from what the fairies were running
[32:23] Speaker 7: at stemp, and then from the green on to the
[32:25] Speaker 7: hole that how many feet that is and that stemp
[32:27] Speaker 7: and he would with the slope and you would say,
[32:30] Speaker 7: this put's playing forty seven feet and he did and
[32:33] Speaker 7: hit it like perfect speed or make it and it
[32:36] Speaker 7: was incredible. But I think people got to know him
[32:40] Speaker 7: and watch him mature and grow up and became this likable,
[32:45] Speaker 7: interesting character, and we need more characters like that in
[32:49] Speaker 7: the golf game. Whether you like him or not, and
[32:51] Speaker 7: I think most people do like him. He's he's an
[32:54] Speaker 7: interesting guy. And what he's done with his body and
[32:56] Speaker 7: his game, the transformation that he's gone through, it's incredible.
[33:00] Speaker 7: He's an incredibly talented player. I always enjoyed my conversations
[33:04] Speaker 7: with him. But look, you know, when you're twenty one,
[33:07] Speaker 7: twenty two and you're a millionaire, and you know, you
[33:09] Speaker 7: think you have the world bides you know, you know,
[33:12] Speaker 7: it's a little bit of a growing I bet that
[33:15] Speaker 7: was the same way when I was young. There you
[33:17] Speaker 7: and I turned pro at seventeen and got on the
[33:19] Speaker 7: tour when I was twenty. You know, when you're county
[33:21] Speaker 7: and but you need a little bit of that to
[33:25] Speaker 7: make it so. I think if you kind of look
[33:27] Speaker 7: at that and get to understand the guy and get
[33:29] Speaker 7: to understand the players, I mean, we're not We're much
[33:32] Speaker 7: better than football and other other sports. I mean, we're
[33:35] Speaker 7: much more mature and more well behaved, i'd say, but
[33:41] Speaker 7: it's I think we watched him grow up.
[33:44] Speaker 1: There's a legendary piece of footage. I'm talking to Kevin
[33:47] Speaker 1: Naw about you and Tiger Woods when your speak play
[33:50] Speaker 1: after you hit the pot and he does the same
[33:53] Speaker 1: thing Tiger. There's only two athletes in my lifetime, Tiger
[33:58] Speaker 1: Woods and Michael Jordan. That literally changed how I watched TV.
[34:02] Speaker 1: I would cancel stuff on a Sunday to watch Tiger Woods. Yeah,
[34:06] Speaker 1: do you think that was it?
[34:08] Speaker 4: You know, it was sort of.
[34:09] Speaker 1: It wasn't obviously pre internet, but it was a pre
[34:12] Speaker 1: TikTok golf felt those games felt those tournaments with Tiger,
[34:19] Speaker 1: it just felt like otherworldly. You think golf will ever
[34:22] Speaker 1: have that again?
[34:24] Speaker 7: Yeah, I think so. I think Bryson is his closest
[34:26] Speaker 7: to you know, the excitement. I think Rory's pretty exciting.
[34:31] Speaker 7: I think Rom's pretty exciting, and Jouquin's becoming that player
[34:35] Speaker 7: as well. I think there's different characters of the game
[34:38] Speaker 7: that bring that kind of energy. Obviously, Tiger was you know,
[34:43] Speaker 7: his dominating in his you know, his power, and he's
[34:46] Speaker 7: blowing the field a way and you know, even though
[34:48] Speaker 7: he's four back with nine to Plague, they're like, oh,
[34:50] Speaker 7: he's got to win. You know, he's gonna go on
[34:52] Speaker 7: this crazy run. And I remember watching as a kid
[34:54] Speaker 7: and I'm I mean, you know, being a fan of Tiger,
[34:58] Speaker 7: it's it's incredible. I mean, but I think there are
[35:03] Speaker 7: characters that can follow his footsteps or become maybe not
[35:07] Speaker 7: that Tiger Wood's icon level, but you know, up close
[35:12] Speaker 7: to that level, and we can have three or four
[35:15] Speaker 7: guys kind of equal tighter, you know what I mean.
[35:17] Speaker 7: But I think golf has become more more entertaining, more
[35:20] Speaker 7: exciting than than before. Back in nineties, I grew up
[35:22] Speaker 7: watching golf, you know, in the nineties, you know, and
[35:26] Speaker 7: you know I became a pro in the early two
[35:28] Speaker 7: thousand and I played all these with these guys on
[35:32] Speaker 7: the senior tour that's playing now. And I think golf
[35:36] Speaker 7: has become more entertaining. I mean there's more characters of
[35:38] Speaker 7: the game. I mean you got you know, Bryce and
[35:41] Speaker 7: that bombs and cuts corners. You got Rovery also, you
[35:44] Speaker 7: know Scotti, Shaffer getting arrested.
[35:46] Speaker 2: I mean there's I think it's entertaining.
[35:48] Speaker 7: I mean, you know, we have some John Daily, you
[35:52] Speaker 7: know the you know, the former John Days of the
[35:54] Speaker 7: guys right now. Look, I think golf is in a
[35:58] Speaker 7: good place. Accept this division. I think once this we
[36:03] Speaker 7: find a way to get the players back together more often.
[36:08] Speaker 7: I think I think golf is going to go up
[36:09] Speaker 7: another level. The volume
