[0:08] Speaker 1: Sold a little pre Super Bowl news Jordan Schultz had
[0:13] Speaker 1: put it out and then Jay Glazer followed that Aaron
[0:17] Speaker 1: Rodgers will not be coming back to the New York Jets.
[0:20] Speaker 1: So I've been on the phone this morning with a
[0:22] Speaker 1: couple of different sources, and let me just tell you
[0:26] Speaker 1: what what I've been told. Aaron Glenn who came from
[0:31] Speaker 1: that incredibly strong Detroit Lion culture, and these were the
[0:36] Speaker 1: exact words I were told. I was told he didn't
[0:40] Speaker 1: want the player or the person in the building as
[0:46] Speaker 1: he started his NFL head coaching career, and that that
[0:52] Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily mean Aaron's a bad person.
[0:55] Speaker 2: That's not the point.
[0:56] Speaker 1: Is that for what you deal with with Aaron, you
[1:00] Speaker 1: have to be far more productive than Aaron is at
[1:03] Speaker 1: this point in his career, which is around the fifteenth
[1:05] Speaker 1: best quarterback in the league. And again we all know this,
[1:07] Speaker 1: the more talent you have, the more stuff people will
[1:12] Speaker 1: put up with. But Erin now has been dumped twice.
[1:16] Speaker 1: This is the stuff I talked about eight years ago
[1:18] Speaker 1: and got enormous pushback even from NFL media people. Aaron's
[1:23] Speaker 1: a lot of work. I've known multiple Packers who have
[1:26] Speaker 1: played with him. He is Moody depends on what Aaron
[1:31] Speaker 1: you get in the building, and Green Bay caught him
[1:34] Speaker 1: off guard, and so did the Jets. Glazier's report was
[1:37] Speaker 1: he flew all the way to New York and with
[1:40] Speaker 1: the idea that he was going to be a Jet
[1:42] Speaker 1: for at least one more year, and they informed him
[1:46] Speaker 1: that won't be the case. So I'm a little surprised
[1:49] Speaker 1: because I thought Aaron played well in the last eight
[1:52] Speaker 1: or so weeks of the year, and I do think
[1:54] Speaker 1: this is a bad quarterback draft, and so I'm not
[1:56] Speaker 1: exactly sure what they're going to do. Salah and Olbrich
[2:01] Speaker 1: are not the kind of guys really to push back
[2:05] Speaker 1: on Aaron. Aaron Glenn's a different cat. He's very intense,
[2:09] Speaker 1: he's very bottom line. He's not a compromising guy, and
[2:13] Speaker 1: he did not want to start his New York career
[2:17] Speaker 1: with Aaron Rodgers in the building.
[2:20] Speaker 2: That's what I was told.
[2:22] Speaker 1: And I think Peyton Manning left Indy and won a
[2:26] Speaker 1: Super Bowl, Tom Brady left Tampa, or Tom Brady left
[2:29] Speaker 1: New England and won a Super Bowl. Brett Favre left
[2:33] Speaker 1: Green Bay, eventually ends up in Minnesota and is a
[2:36] Speaker 1: play from the Super Bowl with the Vikings, they had
[2:39] Speaker 1: great success, Aaron did not hurt, and then a really
[2:43] Speaker 1: really bad season in a division where you know, New
[2:47] Speaker 1: England was bad. In Miami is a little bit dysfunctional
[2:50] Speaker 1: and limited. So there are two teams. I just ran
[2:55] Speaker 1: into chip Kelly Saturday early evening and we were talking
[3:01] Speaker 1: about the Raiders at quarterback before either one of us
[3:05] Speaker 1: had this information. And I think the Raiders and the
[3:08] Speaker 1: Colts are the two places if Aaron wants to play,
[3:11] Speaker 1: that would be good fits Shane Steichen in Indy.
[3:14] Speaker 2: I like that roster.
[3:15] Speaker 1: I don't think it's a top five roster, but I
[3:17] Speaker 1: think it's a good roster and a winnable division. And
[3:21] Speaker 1: I think having chip Kelly two good tight ends, two
[3:25] Speaker 1: offensive tackles young their center. I think Las Vegas has
[3:30] Speaker 1: Pete Carroll chip Kelly. I think that's a very promising
[3:34] Speaker 1: landing spot if Aaron wants to play. There are people
[3:37] Speaker 1: I was told this morning that are unsure in the
[3:40] Speaker 1: NFL if Aaron wants to play, and only Aaron can
[3:43] Speaker 1: answer that, and that could go back and forth depending
[3:46] Speaker 1: on the moot.
[3:46] Speaker 2: Who knows. I'm not going to.
[3:48] Speaker 1: Try to speculate whether Aaron wants to play or not
[3:50] Speaker 1: have no idea.
[3:52] Speaker 2: Some of the notes I have here is that.
[3:57] Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn felt so strongly about what he wanted to build.
[4:02] Speaker 1: And Aaron Glenn has an understanding that what the Jets
[4:07] Speaker 1: don't have, and they haven't had for a decade or more,
[4:11] Speaker 1: is a really good culture. They've had good players. Aaron
[4:14] Speaker 1: Glenn has told people there's a lot of talent on
[4:17] Speaker 1: this roster, and a lot of it's on defense. You know,
[4:20] Speaker 1: I've said this that if you look at all the
[4:24] Speaker 1: job openings this year, we may have misgivings about the
[4:28] Speaker 1: Jets ownership and their stability and their impulsive nature. At
[4:33] Speaker 1: least that's how I view them. Over the last decade,
[4:36] Speaker 1: They've run through a lot of coordinators and a lot
[4:37] Speaker 1: of coaches. The roster's fine, the roster's absolutely fine. But
[4:45] Speaker 1: Aaron now is expensive and DeVante Adams. My guess would be,
[4:51] Speaker 1: I asked somebody this morning about Davonte Adams. He's very
[4:54] Speaker 1: expensive and he came to New York willingly because of
[4:57] Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers. So my guess is the Jets, and it's
[5:02] Speaker 1: a pretty good guess, would probably cut Aaron and Devonte
[5:07] Speaker 1: Adams who's very expensive. He made what over twenty five
[5:10] Speaker 1: million dollars last year. I did not look good up
[5:14] Speaker 1: this morning. But this really comes down to something I
[5:18] Speaker 1: have hit on and talked about for years and years.
[5:21] Speaker 1: And it doesn't mean he's necessarily a bad person. That's
[5:24] Speaker 1: not what I'm saying. But I've had enough people in
[5:26] Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers' orbit that he is. There are depends on
[5:32] Speaker 1: the day and what you get from Aaron, and Aaron
[5:37] Speaker 1: Glenn was not going to walk on eggshells. He just
[5:40] Speaker 1: came from Detroit. He knows what culture means. He took
[5:42] Speaker 1: over a Jets like situation where you had some talent.
[5:47] Speaker 1: But when the last time we talked about the Lions
[5:50] Speaker 1: pre Dan Campbell and what a great culture it was
[5:53] Speaker 1: like never they'd had Calvin Johnson and Barry Sanders and
[5:57] Speaker 1: Matt Stafford, They've had really good players. The culture is
[6:01] Speaker 1: the secret sauce for the Lions now that in their
[6:03] Speaker 1: own line and drafting they've got a really strong, formidable culture.
[6:07] Speaker 1: The Jets have players. Jets have better players today for
[6:10] Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn than Dan Campbell had when he took over
[6:13] Speaker 1: the Lions. But after about a year and a half,
[6:15] Speaker 1: you were really seeing the value of culture and Aaron
[6:19] Speaker 1: Aaron Glenn, he didn't want to start with a player
[6:23] Speaker 1: that's older, that's expensive, that Green Bay moved off from.
[6:29] Speaker 1: They didn't know if Jordan Love was going to be
[6:30] Speaker 1: the guy. They didn't They really didn't know if Jordan
[6:33] Speaker 1: Love was going to be it. A lot of people
[6:34] Speaker 1: still aren't sure if Jordan Love's going to be it.
[6:36] Speaker 1: I think he's really good, bit reckless, but very good.
[6:39] Speaker 1: So this has been a theme in Aaron Rodgers' career.
[6:44] Speaker 1: I don't think Aaron was difficult early in his career.
[6:49] Speaker 1: I mean, if you read the Jeff Perlman book, it
[6:52] Speaker 1: really laid out that Farv was not always the most
[6:55] Speaker 1: welcoming to Aaron Rodgers. They get along now fine, probably
[6:59] Speaker 1: because both I've had some uh you know, turbulence in
[7:03] Speaker 1: their careers. Certainly Farv has and Aaron's it's been a
[7:07] Speaker 1: little bumpy, a little bumpy landing in New York, a
[7:10] Speaker 1: little bumpy at the end in Green Bay with management.
[7:13] Speaker 1: But I think I think the Raiders and Chip Kelly
[7:16] Speaker 1: would be a pretty good landing spot. I will tell
[7:20] Speaker 1: you that I have had now three different people tell
[7:24] Speaker 1: me over the course I had two in New Orleans
[7:28] Speaker 1: and one over the last two days. Tell me Shadure
[7:32] Speaker 1: Sanders is gaining steam and Shaduur Sanders could possibly drop
[7:37] Speaker 1: to the Raiders.
[7:38] Speaker 2: I think that.
[7:39] Speaker 1: I think that would be my hunch that they need
[7:42] Speaker 1: a quarterback. They didn't get good quarterback played. They're not
[7:44] Speaker 1: missing a ton. I mean really, they're really not. They
[7:46] Speaker 1: need a running back in, a quarterback and another weapon.
[7:49] Speaker 1: There's a lot the Raiders have. I know that division
[7:52] Speaker 1: is tough, but if you're Pete Carroll and Chip Kelly
[7:54] Speaker 1: and let's say Aaron Rodgers, you're going to have to
[7:56] Speaker 1: face Mahomes and Justin Herbert and Sean Payton and Nicks
[8:00] Speaker 1: in the playoffs, Potentially you might as well have six
[8:03] Speaker 1: games against those teams going into the playoffs if you
[8:05] Speaker 1: landed the air and succeeded. But I think over the
[8:09] Speaker 1: course of time, we have to be completely honest. And
[8:12] Speaker 1: I know there's a lot of you know, Aaron fans,
[8:15] Speaker 1: I get it, But when you get dumped twice and
[8:17] Speaker 1: are surprised both times, maybe it's not somebody else. Aaron
[8:22] Speaker 1: has that quality And this has been shared with me
[8:25] Speaker 1: on more than one occasion, and He's certainly not the
[8:28] Speaker 1: only person that has this, but kind of needs to
[8:31] Speaker 1: be the smartest guy in the room, and that can
[8:33] Speaker 1: be off putting to some. But I don't know if
[8:37] Speaker 1: he's going to continue his career. It doesn't matter. He's
[8:39] Speaker 1: the fifteenth best quarterback in the league right now, it
[8:41] Speaker 1: doesn't matter. The league moves on. It moved on from
[8:44] Speaker 1: Brady and Peyton Manning and Drew Brees. It's certainly going
[8:46] Speaker 1: to move on. It moved on from the wildly popular
[8:49] Speaker 1: Brett Farr and Joe Montana. It's going to move on
[8:53] Speaker 1: just fine. But they I'm told that Aaron Glenn, knowing
[8:59] Speaker 1: the value of cold just he made it very clear
[9:03] Speaker 1: inside that building in New York that he wanted a
[9:05] Speaker 1: clean start, fresh start. Everybody had in the same direction.
[9:09] Speaker 1: Didn't want to walk on eggshells, didn't want to have
[9:12] Speaker 1: to deal with any unnecessary potential drama. And so I
[9:17] Speaker 1: don't know where they're going. They're not going to go
[9:19] Speaker 1: get Sam Darnold. I doubt that, But I've said this before.
[9:24] Speaker 1: It may not be the strongest NFL draft in the
[9:27] Speaker 1: first round for quarterbacks, but I do think Kyle McCord
[9:30] Speaker 1: from Syracuse or Riley Leonard are really interesting players. Riley
[9:34] Speaker 1: Leonard had a very good Senior Bowl. I've had multiple
[9:37] Speaker 1: people they really like Kyle McCord from Syracuse. They see
[9:40] Speaker 1: as a starting quarterback in the NFL. But that is
[9:44] Speaker 1: the news on Aaron Rodgers as we get ready for
[9:47] Speaker 1: pre Super Bowl. You know, it's interesting. I like Kansas
[9:50] Speaker 1: City in this game. But you know I say this
[9:53] Speaker 1: without a ton of conviction. I just there's two numbers.
[9:55] Speaker 2: I like a lot.
[9:56] Speaker 1: Mahomes is eight to zero against mc fangio, and Andy
[9:58] Speaker 1: Reid is thirty three and seve An off of buy
[10:01] Speaker 1: and the four best players for the Chiefs have They've
[10:07] Speaker 1: all been in this game, and several of them have
[10:11] Speaker 1: been many times. And I like the experience in this spot.
[10:14] Speaker 1: But Philadelphia does have a better accumulation of talent. I
[10:17] Speaker 1: don't think anybody denies that. But I think the Eagles
[10:20] Speaker 1: number one defense somewhat is built on the fact that
[10:24] Speaker 1: they faced a lot of bad quarterbacks. The AFC is
[10:26] Speaker 1: much better at the top, whereas the Chiefs faced Lamar
[10:31] Speaker 1: Jackson and Josh Allen and Justin Herbert twice and Bo
[10:34] Speaker 1: Nix and Sean Payton twice and CJ. Stroud and Joe
[10:36] Speaker 1: Burrow and beat Kirk Cousins early when he was good.
[10:39] Speaker 1: You know, the Eagles faced the New York Giants offense
[10:43] Speaker 1: twice and lost to Kirk Cousins and the Saints and
[10:46] Speaker 1: Cleveland Jaggs, Carolinas Steelers, Dallas with Cooper Rush. I don't
[10:50] Speaker 1: think Philadelphia have faced as many good quarterbacks, in my opinion,
[10:56] Speaker 1: and as many good coaches as the Chiefs defense did.
[11:00] Speaker 1: I think the Chiefs on average face better coaches and
[11:04] Speaker 1: better quarterbacks. Although you know, both teams faced Kirk Cousins,
[11:08] Speaker 1: Philadelphia lost to him. Both teams faced Joe Burrow, but
[11:13] Speaker 1: Kansas City beat Kirk Cousins, who was pretty good when
[11:16] Speaker 1: both those teams got.
[11:17] Speaker 2: A shot at him.
[11:19] Speaker 1: So not that the Eagles defense isn't good, But my
[11:23] Speaker 1: takeaway is if you had the fifth best defense in
[11:26] Speaker 1: the NFL and you're playing in the AFC in your
[11:30] Speaker 1: face and Lamar and Josh and Herbert a couple of times,
[11:32] Speaker 1: and Stroud and Nicks and Burrow and Kirk Cousins when
[11:35] Speaker 1: he was in really good shape and some good coaching,
[11:38] Speaker 1: that's a handful. So I think it's a close game.
[11:41] Speaker 1: I think in the second half, the scoring gets ratcheted
[11:43] Speaker 1: up and the defense is tire out a little bit,
[11:46] Speaker 1: and you'll see some really big time plays. But I
[11:48] Speaker 1: think you're going to get a classic Super Bowl. Super
[11:52] Speaker 1: Bowl fifty nine. Jordan Schultz and then Jake Laser reported
[11:57] Speaker 1: the Jets moved off Aaron Rodgers. So for the second
[12:01] Speaker 1: time in a couple of years, a team as Aaron
[12:05] Speaker 1: flew out to New York thinking positively optimistically it would happen,
[12:10] Speaker 1: they moved off him. I think the Colts and the
[12:12] Speaker 1: Raiders work. I think Chip Kelly, they have two tackles,
[12:15] Speaker 1: they have a center, they have two good tight ends.
[12:17] Speaker 1: Then they're running back and receiver. I think I think
[12:19] Speaker 1: the Raiders works b Aaron Rodgers. He'd take that over
[12:22] Speaker 1: the Colts and Shane Steichen. But you know Peyton Manning
[12:26] Speaker 1: and Tom Brady late in their careers leave.
[12:30] Speaker 2: And have some success.
[12:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, Brett Farve that as well, got to an NFC
[12:33] Speaker 1: championship a throw from the Super Bowl. Are you surprised
[12:37] Speaker 1: that it was just two years of nothing and the
[12:41] Speaker 1: second team bailed on him.
[12:43] Speaker 3: I'm not, but are you h No? Because as the
[12:46] Speaker 3: season went on, it got pretty weird between Aaron and
[12:48] Speaker 3: the owner, and I listened you recorded something before the
[12:54] Speaker 3: Super Bowl about you know, this new culture coming in.
[12:58] Speaker 3: You know, Aaron Glen's at former high level player, so
[13:01] Speaker 3: it's like, do I want to deal with some old aging?
[13:03] Speaker 3: You know what's the hardest thing to deal with sometimes
[13:05] Speaker 3: in pro sports an aging form or superstar, especially one
[13:09] Speaker 3: that's a little different. You know Peyton Manning that last year,
[13:11] Speaker 3: Remember Kubiak and Elway had to sit him down and
[13:14] Speaker 3: like it was difficult, he took a pay cut. These
[13:16] Speaker 3: are these are tough conversations, but I think it was
[13:19] Speaker 3: pretty clear that the Johnson family was over this guy
[13:22] Speaker 3: about two months left to go in the season. I
[13:26] Speaker 3: wonder if part of the interviews was like Aaron's done here,
[13:31] Speaker 3: which most of these new code who cares like it's
[13:33] Speaker 3: not like okay, fine, I don't need them anyway. I
[13:37] Speaker 3: think the question now is is he even tradable because
[13:41] Speaker 3: he's on the books for this year, his cash you know,
[13:46] Speaker 3: his cap hits twenty three million dollars. I honestly think
[13:49] Speaker 3: they probably have to cut them. I wonder if anyone
[13:52] Speaker 3: at you I think them so it's like they just
[13:54] Speaker 3: cut him. I think they'll cut them and then someone
[13:57] Speaker 3: signs them for ten million bucks. I mean, is he
[13:59] Speaker 3: is that what he's getting? Kind of a unique say
[14:04] Speaker 3: you think about it. Roethlisberger's arm gave out on him,
[14:08] Speaker 3: it was clear, but he just ends as a Steeler.
[14:10] Speaker 3: Manning's arm doesn't work, wins the Super Bowl, but then
[14:13] Speaker 3: no one would resign him. Breeze's arms started going and
[14:16] Speaker 3: it just ended. Is he really just going to go play? Like?
[14:20] Speaker 3: What if the Titans outbid that and they give him
[14:22] Speaker 3: twelve million? The Raiders are only willing to give him.
[14:24] Speaker 3: See he's gonna finish his career on the Titans. Because
[14:26] Speaker 3: I do think it wouldn't just be those two. I
[14:27] Speaker 3: think a lot of teams would be interested just to
[14:30] Speaker 3: try to get their franchise. You know, these owners give
[14:33] Speaker 3: them a little oomph. If you got some cap face,
[14:35] Speaker 3: I'll give Aaron Rodgers fifteen million dollars if you're the Titans,
[14:38] Speaker 3: why wouldn't you pay him?
[14:39] Speaker 1: If yeah, he has a house in Nashville. I mean
[14:43] Speaker 1: they'll say, hit listen, we'll give you two years. He
[14:45] Speaker 1: got a house in Nashville. It's an easy division. And
[14:48] Speaker 1: then you have that number one pick you could trade
[14:50] Speaker 1: down get a bunch of players around him. It's just interesting.
[14:54] Speaker 1: I was told that Aaron Glenn, for the people that
[14:58] Speaker 1: didn't hear my pre Super Bowl fifteen minute rant, I
[15:02] Speaker 1: was told by somebody I trust that Aaron Glenn, coming
[15:06] Speaker 1: from a really strong culture in Detroit, wants to mimic
[15:09] Speaker 1: that right, duplicate that in New York, and he didn't
[15:13] Speaker 1: want Aaron Rodgers the player or the person in the room.
[15:16] Speaker 1: And they'll they'll say all the right stuff. But in
[15:18] Speaker 1: the end, I mean, Green Bay caught him off guard.
[15:22] Speaker 1: The Jets kind of caught him off guard. Aaron has
[15:25] Speaker 1: that disease of has to be the smartest guy in
[15:27] Speaker 1: the room. I'm gonna do my own homework on the internet.
[15:31] Speaker 1: And you know, I think in the end, Aaron, I mean,
[15:35] Speaker 1: I could write chapters in a book on things I've
[15:37] Speaker 1: heard from people that have been around him. He's a
[15:39] Speaker 1: really moody guy. You can get good Aeron or bad Aeron,
[15:43] Speaker 1: but in the end, he's just not good enough. Now
[15:45] Speaker 1: he's probably the fifteenth best quarterback in the league. He's
[15:47] Speaker 1: just not good enough for the bs you deal with.
[15:50] Speaker 1: Like like he's not early to the locker room. He's
[15:53] Speaker 1: not optimistic like Brady to the end. I mean was
[15:57] Speaker 1: just like high energy, high optimist, some high standards. I'm
[16:03] Speaker 1: not sure Aaron loves the game. I think, you know
[16:06] Speaker 1: how when he ever worked with somebody or you have
[16:08] Speaker 1: somebody in your family and.
[16:09] Speaker 2: They're like, I work hard, and you're like.
[16:11] Speaker 1: Dude, hard work is sixty five hours a week, not
[16:13] Speaker 1: forty two. I think Aaron says he loves the game.
[16:17] Speaker 1: I don't see it. I don't I don't see that
[16:20] Speaker 1: just just unbridled, like just relentless passion for it. I
[16:24] Speaker 1: think I think Aaron thinks he loves the game, but
[16:27] Speaker 1: he doesn't love it. He doesn't love it the way
[16:29] Speaker 1: the guys that I see it in pro Sports. Sorry
[16:33] Speaker 1: to interrupt this great video, but please remember to like
[16:35] Speaker 1: and subscribe.
[16:37] Speaker 2: Thank you. Now back to the video.
[16:40] Speaker 3: I think it'll be very telling that when they cut him,
[16:45] Speaker 3: if he's only getting seven, eight, ten million dollar off,
[16:48] Speaker 3: he doesn't need the money, right, He's worth hundreds of
[16:50] Speaker 3: millions of dollars. At this point in time, it was
[16:52] Speaker 3: clear he did not want to get hit last year.
[16:54] Speaker 3: Don't blame him. He's forty years old. So is he
[16:57] Speaker 3: going to go play for some of these teams. You know,
[17:00] Speaker 3: Carroll calls the Titans call, It's like, yeah, this this
[17:03] Speaker 3: might not go well again.
[17:05] Speaker 2: Right.
[17:05] Speaker 3: The one thing Aaron Rodgers has a good feel for,
[17:08] Speaker 3: you know, the most of his career is what a
[17:10] Speaker 3: good team looks like. So this could be really like,
[17:14] Speaker 3: you go sign up for one of these teams. Best
[17:16] Speaker 3: case scenario might be like seven wins and you you know,
[17:19] Speaker 3: struggled to stay hurt last year on a roster that's
[17:21] Speaker 3: going to be better more than likely than one of
[17:23] Speaker 3: these teams interested in you. So I wonder if he
[17:26] Speaker 3: gets to the point where it's like, am I really
[17:28] Speaker 3: going to do a one year for eight, nine, ten
[17:31] Speaker 3: million dollars. It's one thing, you know, the jetson he
[17:33] Speaker 3: went thirty five million dollars. If someone was willing to
[17:36] Speaker 3: pay him that, I think he would for sure play.
[17:39] Speaker 3: But I have a hard time if you're ten million dollars,
[17:41] Speaker 3: it's like the best options the Titans him just going
[17:44] Speaker 3: I'm just gonna go hang out in Malibu and just
[17:46] Speaker 3: kick it.
[17:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, he's got a beautiful house.
[17:51] Speaker 1: I watched that documentary Enigma, and it was interesting, you know,
[17:56] Speaker 1: I watched the first episode, was bored out of my mind.
[17:58] Speaker 2: I gave it a second episode that better.
[18:00] Speaker 3: I gave it like ten minutes more brought off. I'm like,
[18:02] Speaker 3: I don't even care. Just wasn't for me.
[18:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, you're a better man than me. Yeah. Yeah.
[18:08] Speaker 1: So I kind of felt like I for the audience
[18:11] Speaker 1: I had to go watch it. But you know, I
[18:13] Speaker 1: just think he's just a different cat, and I think
[18:17] Speaker 1: over the last six or seven years, he's got to
[18:19] Speaker 1: be really high maintenance. But I don't know what the
[18:24] Speaker 1: Jets are going to do at quarterback. But I and
[18:27] Speaker 1: I ran into Chip Kelly Saturday night briefly, and this
[18:31] Speaker 1: was before I knew the era and news, and my
[18:32] Speaker 1: take is that's probably the best place for him. Honestly,
[18:35] Speaker 1: it's probably the best. If I was him, I can
[18:37] Speaker 1: be closer to Malibu.
[18:38] Speaker 2: It's probably the best.
[18:39] Speaker 3: I saw the headline today that the Raiders might be
[18:41] Speaker 3: interested in Sam Donald, and I actually ran into Sam
[18:45] Speaker 3: Donald at the hotel gym the day I was leaving,
[18:48] Speaker 3: and I talked to him again in the elevator. You
[18:50] Speaker 3: know one thing that really stands out to me. I
[18:51] Speaker 3: had a bunch of players staying at the hotel I
[18:53] Speaker 3: was staying at ran into like Ladanian Tomlinson. I know
[18:56] Speaker 3: Lorenzo O'Neil really well, so I went up and talk
[18:58] Speaker 3: to him about low Neil and just good easygoing guys
[19:01] Speaker 3: like you can just have a normal conversation with Ladanian Tomlinson,
[19:05] Speaker 3: like in the in the hotel gym for five minutes,
[19:07] Speaker 3: where it's like, you know, this is one of the
[19:08] Speaker 3: great running backs in the history of the league. Like
[19:10] Speaker 3: I don't know if you know, the equivalent in some
[19:13] Speaker 3: of these other sports will just do that. But these guys,
[19:15] Speaker 3: you know Sam Darnold, who just had one of the
[19:17] Speaker 3: great seasons in the league, He's just b esa with
[19:20] Speaker 3: me about where he's gonna play golf this summer in LA.
[19:23] Speaker 3: It's just it's just an easy going group of people.
[19:26] Speaker 3: And my theory has always been is they're they're the
[19:28] Speaker 3: most they have the most in common with normal people
[19:31] Speaker 3: because their job is one they get cut all the time.
[19:33] Speaker 3: One they also get screamed at at their job a lot,
[19:36] Speaker 3: like if it's not going well, you're getting criticized by
[19:38] Speaker 3: your bosses like normal human beings do. And there's just
[19:43] Speaker 3: they just communicate very well with non you know, famous people,
[19:47] Speaker 3: which I can be a struggle with people making a
[19:49] Speaker 3: lot of money, and I was just very impressed. All
[19:51] Speaker 3: the players that I ran into the hotel just had
[19:53] Speaker 3: brief conversations with.
[19:57] Speaker 1: Nothing says summer like long days, clutch plays and firing

[21:20] Speaker 1: Speaking of artists, I think if you took any NFL
[21:23] Speaker 1: quarterback and said he was more artists, it would be
[21:26] Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers.
[21:27] Speaker 2: Aaron's very unique, and.
[21:31] Speaker 1: I tend to believe that people make mistakes, but most
[21:34] Speaker 1: NFL reporters are very, very good. So I'm going to
[21:37] Speaker 1: trust the NFL reporter who broke this story that basically
[21:41] Speaker 1: Aaron begged the Jets to keep him. And it's interesting
[21:47] Speaker 1: because I think we both acknowledge Aaron smart. You know,
[21:51] Speaker 1: he's a bright guy. Better than average intelligence. But he's
[21:54] Speaker 1: had two franchises catch him off guard letting him go.
[22:00] Speaker 1: And it's an interesting thing with Aaron. Generally, these two
[22:04] Speaker 1: things coincide intelligence and self awareness, and we think Aaron's smart.
[22:10] Speaker 1: And twice he's knocked on the door of the franchise
[22:14] Speaker 1: and they're like they do the Vegas.
[22:16] Speaker 2: Dealer, Yeah, we're out, and he's like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
[22:19] Speaker 2: whoa whoa.
[22:21] Speaker 1: What I find interesting about Aaron, if this story is
[22:24] Speaker 1: true that he begged to stay, is that he doesn't
[22:27] Speaker 1: get like, he doesn't get his brand, and it's like, Aaron,
[22:32] Speaker 1: you're not some dullard, You're not a dim bulb. You're
[22:37] Speaker 1: a lot of work and you're not nearly as good
[22:40] Speaker 1: as you used to be. This, whether you're a talk
[22:43] Speaker 1: show host or a quarterback, never ends well. When I
[22:49] Speaker 1: read that he was begging to stay or he really
[22:52] Speaker 1: wanted to stay, part of it.
[22:54] Speaker 2: To me was sad. It's like, Aaron, how do you
[22:57] Speaker 2: not get this? Does that sold you? I don't so.
[23:04] Speaker 6: Albert Brier then reported that Aaron wanted to stay, wanted
[23:11] Speaker 6: and indicated that he wants to keep playing, but that
[23:14] Speaker 6: he was not He did not present it like that
[23:17] Speaker 6: he was begging. Rogers doesn't strike me as a guy
[23:21] Speaker 6: that would get down on one knee and beg the
[23:23] Speaker 6: New York Jets for employment. So I didn't buy the
[23:26] Speaker 6: behind the paywall New York Post story that said it
[23:30] Speaker 6: was like a man walking himself to the gallows and
[23:33] Speaker 6: referencing ayahuasca. It was like very New York posting, and
[23:37] Speaker 6: so I was like, I took it with a little
[23:39] Speaker 6: bit of a grain of salt. What I do think
[23:43] Speaker 6: is true is that Rogers probably went to that meeting
[23:46] Speaker 6: and stayed at his case. I was heard at the
[23:48] Speaker 6: beginning of the year. I played much better at the
[23:51] Speaker 6: at the end of the year, and what's your plan?
[23:55] Speaker 6: If not me, then who? And they probably don't have
[23:58] Speaker 6: a great answer for that right now. So I'm I
[24:00] Speaker 6: bet he stated his case. I still struggle to find
[24:05] Speaker 6: a team that makes more sense for Rogers than Pittsburgh.
[24:10] Speaker 6: People keep saying Minnesota. Aren't they going to try JJ McCarthy.
[24:15] Speaker 6: It traded up in the first round to draft it.
[24:18] Speaker 6: And if they think that if they got a great
[24:21] Speaker 6: season seasons out of Kirk Cousins and then a great
[24:24] Speaker 6: season out of Sam Darnold, I would have to imagine
[24:26] Speaker 6: that they think that the guy that they picked they
[24:29] Speaker 6: can get a great season out.
[24:30] Speaker 2: Of for very cheap.
[24:31] Speaker 1: Well, I want to quickly segue to this. I don't
[24:35] Speaker 1: want to spend too much time on Aaron. So there
[24:38] Speaker 1: was a story that Jason McIntyre deserves credit. He talked
[24:40] Speaker 1: about it like four days before anybody else did Stafford
[24:43] Speaker 1: to the Giants? And I made two calls on it,
[24:47] Speaker 1: and it was a real thing. It's now Stafford may
[24:50] Speaker 1: just want a new deal and an influx of money
[24:52] Speaker 1: from the Rams. That's probably it. The idea of going
[24:55] Speaker 1: from Stan Cronkey and Sean McVay and indoor football to
[24:59] Speaker 1: the Giants facing Philadelphia twice a year and Jaden Daniels
[25:03] Speaker 1: does not feel appealing to me. Just chaos to non chaos.
[25:06] Speaker 1: The Rams are a really well run ship. But it
[25:10] Speaker 1: was interesting. So when I propose that, it was amazing.
[25:14] Speaker 1: And again it's fans. So how many people said you
[25:19] Speaker 1: cannot give up a first round pick for Matt Stafford
[25:22] Speaker 1: And I'm like, I definitely can. It is a week draft.
[25:28] Speaker 1: You've been unwatchable for a decade, Like you're the GM
[25:33] Speaker 1: of the Giants. I press you into a corner. What
[25:37] Speaker 1: would you give up for Matt Stafford in a week draft?
[25:40] Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean I would try to make it next
[25:42] Speaker 6: year's first round pick, right like, not.
[25:45] Speaker 1: Don't you got to give up some I'm not gonna
[25:47] Speaker 1: let you get away with that. You gotta give me
[25:48] Speaker 1: something this year.
[25:50] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[25:50] Speaker 6: Then I mean, listen, I still think Stafford's an arguably
[25:54] Speaker 6: top five quarterback in the NFL.
[25:56] Speaker 2: I think there's a big wasn't big four?
[25:58] Speaker 6: And then like Matt Stafford, everyone was immediately like Jaden
[26:02] Speaker 6: Daniels is the best quarterback in the NFC, And I
[26:04] Speaker 6: was like.
[26:05] Speaker 3: I don't know.
[26:06] Speaker 6: I think I'll still take the thirty five year old gunslinger,
[26:09] Speaker 6: like personally, to win a game tomorrow, I'll take I'll
[26:13] Speaker 6: still take Stafford over Jayden Daniels though Jayden's amazing. So yeah,
[26:18] Speaker 6: I think that if the Rams were open for business,
[26:20] Speaker 6: they would get a first round pick from Matt Stafford,
[26:23] Speaker 6: even at his age.
[26:25] Speaker 1: I now, even though you'd have to redo the deal,
[26:29] Speaker 1: like it's he's just too damn good in a league.
[26:32] Speaker 6: Now, it is all that, And it's the type of
[26:34] Speaker 6: thing that you don't go into it blind, like you'd
[26:35] Speaker 6: be his agent would be given permission to talk to
[26:38] Speaker 6: the team. Hey, are you playing? You know you're not
[26:42] Speaker 6: retiring next year? Right, No, you're playing multiple years? Okay cool? Yeah,
[26:47] Speaker 6: And as long as they have a guarantee that Matt
[26:49] Speaker 6: Stafford would sign a contract extension, rework the deal to
[26:52] Speaker 6: your point, and play multiple years. I do think that
[26:55] Speaker 6: he would get a first round pick. He's awesome. He's awesome.
[27:00] Speaker 6: I don't really get why the Rams would want to
[27:02] Speaker 6: be out of the Matt Stafford business though, Like I
[27:05] Speaker 6: watched your segment and like, okay, I personally would put
[27:09] Speaker 6: up with his wife saying goofy things and like he's
[27:12] Speaker 6: Matt Stafford.
[27:14] Speaker 1: Well, I think what the Rams are looking at some
[27:17] Speaker 1: of that public Cooper Cup Stafford, the Rams felt a
[27:20] Speaker 1: bit belied in social media, the wife, Cooper Cup. It's like, guys,
[27:24] Speaker 1: we're really good, we're really good owners, we're good people here.
[27:29] Speaker 1: Don't go public. So I think that's part of it.
[27:31] Speaker 1: I think the other thing you have to look at
[27:33] Speaker 1: is take Stafford out. Who are the pocket quarterbacks that
[27:38] Speaker 1: you really think can win the Super Bowl over the
[27:40] Speaker 1: next ten years?
[27:41] Speaker 3: Goff?
[27:42] Speaker 1: And that's mostly because the on line really of Detroit,
[27:45] Speaker 1: the old line is so suffocating it could move the
[27:48] Speaker 1: ball against PHILADELPHIA'ST line. The truth is, I think, and
[27:50] Speaker 1: they're also looking at we don't we Matt wants four years,
[27:53] Speaker 1: they give him two, So I think it's they want
[27:55] Speaker 1: Matt Stafford. But I do think rent a quarterback for
[28:00] Speaker 1: a year because next year's quarterback class is much better.
[28:03] Speaker 1: Is Aaron Rodgers. I think Aaron. If you go to
[28:06] Speaker 1: Aaron's last ten games in New York with at that
[28:09] Speaker 1: point arguably the worst coaching staff not in Chicago, in
[28:12] Speaker 1: the league, it was the worst coaching staff, and he
[28:15] Speaker 1: put up like really decent numbers the last ten games.
[28:20] Speaker 1: My take is with McVeigh, if you could hold those
[28:23] Speaker 1: numbers for a year, two year deal, we draft a quarterback.
[28:27] Speaker 1: And I also think Aaron has been humbled. I think
[28:30] Speaker 1: I think he'd come live in Malibu and be like,
[28:34] Speaker 1: I'm taking.
[28:35] Speaker 6: I have no issue with understanding why Aaron Rodgers would
[28:38] Speaker 6: want to play in LA For Sean.
[28:40] Speaker 2: McVay, that's not as that's not a leap.
[28:43] Speaker 6: My thing is, if I'm Sean McVay, I think Matt
[28:47] Speaker 6: Stafford is better than Aaron Rodgers at this yes, this age,
[28:51] Speaker 6: I used to don't get why the Rams would want
[28:54] Speaker 6: to be out of the Stafford business to get into
[28:57] Speaker 6: the Rogers business.
[28:58] Speaker 2: Like if if at Stafford forced the.
[29:01] Speaker 6: Trade or retired or whatever, then like, okay, we can
[29:04] Speaker 6: have that conversation. But I just I get to me
[29:10] Speaker 6: all these teams that people are throwing out for Rogers,
[29:12] Speaker 6: like the Niners, the Vikings, the Rams, Like, yeah, that
[29:16] Speaker 6: all sounds great for Aaron.
[29:18] Speaker 2: I think it's much more likely that it's gonna be
[29:20] Speaker 2: like Vegas, Tennessee.
[29:24] Speaker 6: Nobody's like I think that that that's where it's gonna be.
[29:28] Speaker 6: Like is he going to just play to play and
[29:31] Speaker 6: grind out six wins or I don't. I don't believe
[29:35] Speaker 6: that a Super Bowl contender is calling Aaron Rodgers. Maybe
[29:38] Speaker 6: I'll be proven wrong, but don't. I don't believe that
[29:40] Speaker 6: a Super Bowl contenders ready for him.
[29:43] Speaker 1: So I thought it was interesting today where Adam Schefter
[29:46] Speaker 1: was almost annoyed with they arned Rodgers, where he came
[29:50] Speaker 1: out and said pick a team. So I said this
[29:54] Speaker 1: on the air to day, if you ever tell a
[29:56] Speaker 1: corporation listen, I need more time all get back to you.
[30:03] Speaker 1: You have to have the self awareness to know how
[30:06] Speaker 1: that lands to the corporation, especially if you're in a
[30:09] Speaker 1: valuable position. It's a big fu. You're literally going back
[30:14] Speaker 1: thinking what A what a prima donna?
[30:17] Speaker 2: What a?
[30:18] Speaker 1: And it's where I usually tend to think really smart
[30:22] Speaker 1: people have excellent self awareness, and I wonder sometimes with Aaron,
[30:27] Speaker 1: is he the rare smart dude doesn't read the room well?
[30:32] Speaker 1: I mean he he goes on this darkness retreating Green
[30:34] Speaker 1: Bay and then is shocked when they're like, take a hike,
[30:38] Speaker 1: like how can you be shot?
[30:39] Speaker 6: Don't? But here's the thing with Rogers, and there's a
[30:42] Speaker 6: lot of it. He talks a lot, but do we
[30:47] Speaker 6: believe anything he says, like, what do you mean he
[30:52] Speaker 6: said he didn't have cell service? Like he's like, he's like, oh, like,
[30:57] Speaker 6: can you live in Malibu and twenty five million dollar
[31:01] Speaker 6: house you have cell service?
[31:02] Speaker 2: Like? It was just I think that he has a lot.
[31:06] Speaker 6: Of narcissism to him. And he's like I love the silence.
[31:10] Speaker 6: And then he brought a film crew like what do
[31:12] Speaker 6: these things are just in conflict with each other?
[31:15] Speaker 2: I just you know what I mean?
[31:16] Speaker 6: I think that he is a so I don't know
[31:19] Speaker 6: that he knows exactly what he wants and I think
[31:23] Speaker 6: he loves attention, and I think that he He told
[31:29] Speaker 6: Mark Schlareth and Stink has told the story publicly. He
[31:31] Speaker 6: did like a week sixteen or seventeen Jets game and
[31:34] Speaker 6: he Stink said that they talk for almost thirty minutes
[31:37] Speaker 6: twenty something was about the running game because Stink's insane,
[31:41] Speaker 6: and he was like five or ten minutes was about
[31:42] Speaker 6: his future. And he's like Aaron told me point Blake, like,
[31:46] Speaker 6: I'm only going to keep playing if the situation is perfect.
[31:49] Speaker 2: Well, now apparently it's down to the Steelers and the
[31:52] Speaker 2: Giants and be perfectmn perfect now at least the Steelers,
[31:59] Speaker 2: to me, makes perfect sense. That one makes perfect sense.
[32:04] Speaker 2: He loves Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin loves him Mike Tomlin.
[32:09] Speaker 6: Apparently, it's impossible for this guy to have a losing season.
[32:13] Speaker 6: Mason Rudolph, Kenny Pickett, Mitch Trubisky, Duck Hodges. It doesn't matter.
[32:17] Speaker 6: It's impossible for this guy to have a losing season.
[32:20] Speaker 6: So obviously you're hyper relevant. The fans care. You'll look
[32:26] Speaker 6: good in the iconic jersey. You'll get to play against
[32:29] Speaker 6: Joe Burrow, You'll play against Lamar Jackson. The AFC North
[32:32] Speaker 6: plays the NFC North this year, so the Steelers host
[32:35] Speaker 6: the Packers, they go to Chicago.
[32:39] Speaker 2: Aaron will eat that shit up like that. To me,
[32:43] Speaker 2: that makes sense.
[32:44] Speaker 6: He can have an expectation of playing in a playoff
[32:46] Speaker 6: game and maybe winning a playoff game that Tomlin hasn't
[32:49] Speaker 6: done since twenty sixteen.
[32:51] Speaker 2: They're not going to win a super Bowl, but.
[32:53] Speaker 6: That makes sense if he comes back and he plays
[32:56] Speaker 6: for the Giants, It's just pure van.
[33:01] Speaker 1: Sorry to interrupt this great video, but please remember to
[33:03] Speaker 1: like and subscribe.
[33:05] Speaker 2: Thank you. Now back to the video.
[33:08] Speaker 1: Okay, So I'm going to argue because this was a
[33:10] Speaker 1: discussion today on our show and I said, because I've
[33:14] Speaker 1: moved so many times that I get a yellow padout
[33:16] Speaker 1: pros cons and I said.
[33:19] Speaker 2: I'm going to be Aaron Rodgers. I don't have to move.
[33:23] Speaker 1: I get an offensive coach, I get neighbors and a
[33:28] Speaker 1: really good left tackle, and I'm going to have more
[33:31] Speaker 1: juice in the building. Because the coach and the GM
[33:33] Speaker 1: are getting fired or they had lost Nausee Harris in
[33:36] Speaker 1: their left tackle. They're completely toned af to offense. I'm
[33:41] Speaker 1: old and don't want to get hit, and they haven't
[33:42] Speaker 1: had a good line for seven years. I'll have really
[33:45] Speaker 1: no power in the building, and I'm going to have
[33:47] Speaker 1: two guys that are both going to demand the ball
[33:50] Speaker 1: and neither one runs a complete route tree. I can
[33:53] Speaker 1: make an argument selfishly, Like every time I've ever thought
[33:57] Speaker 1: about moving, my take is, who is my spendali in
[34:02] Speaker 1: the building? Will somebody get me? Brian Dabeles work with
[34:06] Speaker 1: Daniel Jones. He's worked with Josh Allen. Brian Dabeles been
[34:09] Speaker 1: around forever. Man Jeanie calls him one of his best
[34:11] Speaker 1: assistants he's ever known. Like, you go into a building
[34:14] Speaker 1: with a guy you can literally be on the same wavelength.
[34:18] Speaker 1: I mean, Arthur Smith does not appear to be likable
[34:21] Speaker 1: and Mike Tomlin does not appear to care about offense.
[34:24] Speaker 1: And you got two receivers who want to be ones.
[34:28] Speaker 1: I look at Pittsburgh and think this is a powder
[34:32] Speaker 1: kid to two things.
[34:34] Speaker 2: One I could be wrong. I obviously don't know the man.
[34:40] Speaker 2: I don't think he cares about moving.
[34:43] Speaker 7: He'll like, come on, he travels to Tahiti in Thailand,
[34:49] Speaker 7: and he lived for fifteen years in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
[34:53] Speaker 7: In you know, he he'll be fine for eight months
[34:57] Speaker 7: in Pittsburgh. I have a hard time believing that is
[35:01] Speaker 7: going to.
[35:01] Speaker 6: Be a determining factor for him. Maybe I'm wrong, but
[35:05] Speaker 6: I just I think he'll be fine. He's a very
[35:07] Speaker 6: well traveled individual. He'll have as much power in the
[35:12] Speaker 6: offensive side as he wants. Who knows, maybe he'll fire
[35:15] Speaker 6: Arthur Smith and they'll hire Nathaniel Hackett like he is
[35:19] Speaker 6: the offensive coordinator in and of himself. I think he
[35:23] Speaker 6: loves Tomlin. I think that they've flirted with each other.
[35:27] Speaker 6: They wink at each other on the sideline. He shouts
[35:29] Speaker 6: him out when he does the McAfee interviews. I think
[35:32] Speaker 6: he's got a respect for him. Conspiracy theory. McAfee today
[35:37] Speaker 6: retweeted a video of Rogers talking about Tomlin from like
[35:42] Speaker 6: twenty twenty one. I think it's happening. I think it's happening.
[35:46] Speaker 6: I think he's going to announce it on that show.
[35:49] Speaker 6: McAfee is a Pittsburgh guy, or a Pennsylvania guy, whatever
[35:53] Speaker 6: he is.
[35:53] Speaker 2: He's doing some show in Pittsburgh coming out soon. He's
[35:56] Speaker 2: on a big night act.
[35:58] Speaker 6: I don't fully understand the McAfee universe, but like I
[36:01] Speaker 6: think Rogers, who's apparently making seven figures from the guy,
[36:06] Speaker 6: which is amazing, good gig if you can get it.
[36:09] Speaker 6: I think he's announcing that he's going to Pittsburgh with
[36:11] Speaker 6: McAfee at his show in Pittsburgh, and he's a Steeler.
[36:14] Speaker 2: That's what I think is all right, Just you're probably right.
[36:18] Speaker 1: I'm just telling you the stuff that matters to me,
[36:20] Speaker 1: which is, don't have to worry about moving left tackle,
[36:23] Speaker 1: offensive coach, great weapon, and I'm going to have power
[36:26] Speaker 1: in the building.
[36:26] Speaker 2: I'll get a say in the building. Where do you
[36:28] Speaker 2: think he wins more football games Pittsburgh?
[36:31] Speaker 6: Yeah, so I guess okay, And this would be the
[36:34] Speaker 6: other thing I wanted to say to you. And this
[36:36] Speaker 6: is like a like developing more as my media career
[36:40] Speaker 6: continues to just get older or whatever. I root for
[36:44] Speaker 6: interesting powder keg great, awesome. It is so much more
[36:52] Speaker 6: interesting if Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh with Mike Tomlin that,
[36:57] Speaker 6: you know what.
[36:57] Speaker 2: Great point. Like I've said it.
[37:00] Speaker 6: I had our guys work up a photoshop of him
[37:01] Speaker 6: in the Steelers' uniform the day the season ended. Like
[37:04] Speaker 6: to me, it's made obviously, if Minnesota wants him, that's
[37:08] Speaker 6: a better situation obviously. So I see him holding I
[37:12] Speaker 6: can see him holding out for that. I think they're
[37:14] Speaker 6: gonna go JJ McCarthy.
[37:15] Speaker 2: We'll see. But and the Steelers would be on national
[37:19] Speaker 2: TV six times.
[37:22] Speaker 6: They would be hyper relevant and hyper interesting, good or bad,
[37:26] Speaker 6: good or bad.
[37:27] Speaker 2: So I am if he's going to play and.
[37:30] Speaker 6: We're going to talk about him, and he's gonna suck
[37:32] Speaker 6: all the oxygen out of a room, I would much
[37:35] Speaker 6: rather him do it on a ten or eleven win
[37:37] Speaker 6: team than a five or six win team. So I'm
[37:39] Speaker 6: personally am rooting for Pittsburgh.
[37:48] Speaker 1: I want to throw this with Aaron Rodgers and the Vikings,
[37:52] Speaker 1: the Steelers, you know, the Giants interested. So I've said before,
[37:57] Speaker 1: the Vikings is the obvious choice if you could do it,
[37:59] Speaker 1: if you want. I wanted one more year with their personnel
[38:01] Speaker 1: and their coach. Giants two to me, Steeters three. I'll
[38:04] Speaker 1: get to that in a second. But I went and
[38:07] Speaker 1: watched a movie this morning eleven forty called Black Bag.
[38:12] Speaker 1: It was Steven Soderberg, who's done. He started with sexualize
[38:16] Speaker 1: and videotape years ago. Very heavy stuff, very quirky, plot twist,
[38:21] Speaker 1: fascinating guy. The movie's great. I love that hour thirty three.
[38:24] Speaker 1: I mean, you're in and out of the theater. It's fascinating,
[38:27] Speaker 1: not a wasted scene. But as I was watching it,
[38:30] Speaker 1: I was thinking, as I walked out of the theater,
[38:33] Speaker 1: is that.
[38:35] Speaker 3: You can tell.
[38:36] Speaker 1: How smart an actor is by the directors and the
[38:41] Speaker 1: choices they make for movies. Bad dumb actors end up
[38:44] Speaker 1: in bad films and make bad choices. Tom Hanks did
[38:48] Speaker 1: not make a bad choice for like ten years.
[38:51] Speaker 2: Now.
[38:51] Speaker 1: I know Tom Hanks gets better scripts than the average guy.
[38:55] Speaker 1: But you know, even a movie like Big, you know
[38:58] Speaker 1: you're like smarts, choose smarter roles. And I think this
[39:03] Speaker 1: is the ultimate test for Aaron Rodgers. Hear me out.
[39:07] Speaker 1: So the teams that want in Minnesota, Pittsburgh, and New York.
[39:10] Speaker 1: Pittsburgh's got the best overall roster. The best overall coach
[39:14] Speaker 1: is probably in Minnesota. But here's something fascinating about the Steelers.
[39:20] Speaker 1: So in five of the last seven years, and I
[39:24] Speaker 1: think we both agree they draft and develop well, they
[39:26] Speaker 1: got dudes. This is a real roster. Five of the
[39:30] Speaker 1: last seven years they've had at least a three game
[39:33] Speaker 1: losing streak at minimum at the end of the year.
[39:37] Speaker 1: And my belief is as the league has gotten offensively
[39:40] Speaker 1: smarter and the culture has changed and defenses are limited.
[39:45] Speaker 1: That Mike Tomlin is a raw raw coach, kind of
[39:48] Speaker 1: a motivator. That's why such a good as an underdog
[39:51] Speaker 1: coach is that the raw raw stuff, it doesn't land
[39:57] Speaker 1: or stick by Christmas on, It just doesn't. Players have
[40:01] Speaker 1: heard it, and that they're just not a sophisticated team offensively.
[40:06] Speaker 1: They can't get the O line right, which Andy Reid, McVeigh,
[40:09] Speaker 1: Shanahan and Gary Sean Payton, those guys within a year
[40:12] Speaker 1: can figure I mean, the Denver O line sucked.
[40:13] Speaker 2: Peyton got there. It was top eight, you know, his first.
[40:16] Speaker 1: Year, and that I think if Aaron chooses the Steelers,
[40:22] Speaker 1: I think it's a big brand, it's a good roster.
[40:27] Speaker 1: You now have two high maintenance receivers who want the ball.
[40:31] Speaker 1: By the way, DK Metcalf's the most penalized receiver since
[40:34] Speaker 1: the enter of the league, temperamental. You have an O
[40:37] Speaker 1: line that can't figure out. They have no sensibility for it.
[40:42] Speaker 1: He's sort of an outsider in a in a kind
[40:44] Speaker 1: of a tough blue collar city.
[40:45] Speaker 2: He's an outsider.
[40:47] Speaker 1: And if he chooses Pittsburgh, I really think it tells
[40:50] Speaker 1: you a lot about Aaron. I mean I would I'll
[40:52] Speaker 1: tell you I would choose the Giants over Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh
[40:56] Speaker 1: just lost their left tackle, but just lost Najie Harris.
[40:59] Speaker 1: It's like, if the Giants have an excellent left tackle
[41:02] Speaker 1: an offensive coach, Aaron will have power. They have an
[41:05] Speaker 1: elite weapon. And by the way, what they need is
[41:07] Speaker 1: a running back. It's a great running back draft. It's
[41:10] Speaker 1: hard to screw the running back. I mean, the Giants
[41:12] Speaker 1: will take a running back somewhere early. So my take
[41:15] Speaker 1: on Aaron is if he chooses the Steelers, he's passing
[41:20] Speaker 1: on offensive coaches who clearly every rule advantage goes to
[41:24] Speaker 1: that side. And I'm fascinated by the choice he makes
[41:28] Speaker 1: because I'm you know, you start hearing things. A lot
[41:32] Speaker 1: of people think he's going to Pittsburgh. If you just
[41:36] Speaker 1: wanted to play one more year, where would you.
[41:39] Speaker 3: Pick'd be begging are we factoring Minnesota in with these
[41:42] Speaker 3: three or just the os two? Begging O'Connell to let
[41:46] Speaker 3: me be the starting quarterback.
[41:47] Speaker 2: Okay, I see.
[41:48] Speaker 3: Some of these reports that you know he needs thirty
[41:50] Speaker 3: forty million dollars, like guy's made four and fifty million dollars.
[41:54] Speaker 3: This is probably going to be his last season. Is
[41:56] Speaker 3: he going to go out on the embarrassment that was
[41:58] Speaker 3: the Jet situation in these last couple of years. To me,
[42:01] Speaker 3: the Giants thing is, I can't get with you there.
[42:06] Speaker 3: Now I'm with you. I think the Steeler situation's a
[42:08] Speaker 3: little overrated. I mean, they just they happened to have
[42:11] Speaker 3: Lamar Jackson, who's I don't know, the most unique quarterback
[42:14] Speaker 3: we've ever seen, and Joe Burrow, who when he's on
[42:16] Speaker 3: might be the best quarterback.
[42:18] Speaker 2: In the league.
[42:19] Speaker 3: I mean, you're not out doing those two teams. And
[42:21] Speaker 3: then Cleveland just resigned one of the greatest pass rushers ever.
[42:25] Speaker 3: And for a weird organization that they are not easy
[42:29] Speaker 3: to play, that division's really really difficult. And I'm with
[42:32] Speaker 3: you on the Steelers. I thought that that DK Metcalf
[42:36] Speaker 3: trade was insanity, Colin, When you don't have your quarterback
[42:41] Speaker 3: to trade for DK Metcalf when down the stretch of
[42:45] Speaker 3: the season, obviously your offense had some issues, but Russell
[42:47] Speaker 3: did not play well, your defense was falling apart. You
[42:50] Speaker 3: are not in the business of giving a guy one
[42:52] Speaker 3: hundred million dollars guaranteed trading a second round pick. That's
[42:56] Speaker 3: look what the Chiefs or Bill should do, not a
[42:58] Speaker 3: team that's barely getting in the playoffs and getting smoked
[43:01] Speaker 3: the moment they get in. That was crazy. I thought
[43:04] Speaker 3: that was the craziest move when you factor in money
[43:06] Speaker 3: and a high draft pick. But I don't think the
[43:09] Speaker 3: Steelers and the Giants are that good options, Like I
[43:12] Speaker 3: see one the Giants, I don't think would make the
[43:14] Speaker 3: playoffs with them. I mean, the Jets were a much
[43:16] Speaker 3: better team either, and I think the Steelers situation would
[43:19] Speaker 3: probably have some parallels, might look a little better. But
[43:23] Speaker 3: like the way this season nine to ten wins get
[43:25] Speaker 3: blasted by the Ravens for Bills yea, and what's he
[43:28] Speaker 3: just going to retire for it?
[43:29] Speaker 1: By the way, last year, to my point, last year,
[43:31] Speaker 1: to my point, the Steelers were an awful team down
[43:33] Speaker 1: the stretch.
[43:34] Speaker 3: I do think and I would imagine, you know, Kevin O'Connell,
[43:37] Speaker 3: I don't think he's ever worked with Aaron. They're just
[43:39] Speaker 3: having long conversations because they go, are we confident that
[43:42] Speaker 3: we could win the division and win playoff games with
[43:45] Speaker 3: JJ McCarthy, Because they I'm telling you we've seen it.
[43:50] Speaker 3: I know you know this, but like you could win
[43:52] Speaker 3: just because this isn't the NBA when you just put
[43:55] Speaker 3: a great roster like guaranteed to make the playoffs and football,
[43:58] Speaker 3: the cohesion and the quarterback play. Sam Donald threw thirty
[44:01] Speaker 3: five touchdowns last year. JJ McCarthy in fifteen games that
[44:04] Speaker 3: last year in Michigan through twenty two. He's never played
[44:07] Speaker 3: like that. They did not, that's not And if Kevin
[44:09] Speaker 3: O'Connell clearly is much more like McVeigh than Shanahan. He
[44:12] Speaker 3: likes to throw the ball. I mean he is, that's
[44:15] Speaker 3: his you know, he wants to call thirty five to
[44:17] Speaker 3: forty passes a game, even when Sam Donald's getting smoked
[44:20] Speaker 3: in the playoff games, like Kevin run the ball, he
[44:22] Speaker 3: just kept calling pass plays. So I'd be begging Kevin O'Connell.
[44:26] Speaker 3: I think that roster. I would disagree with you on
[44:28] Speaker 3: the Steelers. I think the Vikings have a better roster today.
[44:31] Speaker 3: Now the draft, we'll see what happens, you do. I
[44:33] Speaker 3: mean I thought they had an excellent free agency drafting
[44:35] Speaker 3: or I mean signed a couple offensive linemen plug and play,
[44:38] Speaker 3: a guard in a center, a couple of defensive linemen.
[44:40] Speaker 3: I mean their defense overachieved because Flores is such an
[44:43] Speaker 3: elite coordinator now, so they bring a couple more defensive linemen.
[44:47] Speaker 3: I would imagine they draft defense. Their offense is stacked
[44:50] Speaker 3: skill wise, so you know it'd be I mean, it'd
[44:53] Speaker 3: be a little weird, right if Aaron's career literally paralleled
[44:56] Speaker 3: the guy that always drove him nuts far if of
[44:58] Speaker 3: going to the Jets than the Vikings. Yeah, but that division,
[45:02] Speaker 3: I think the one thing right now on paper, when
[45:05] Speaker 3: you say the NFC North is the best division in
[45:08] Speaker 3: all of football with the Bears looking vastly.
[45:09] Speaker 1: I brow, well, I think it's the best division in
[45:12] Speaker 1: terms of personnel. I think the AFC West is the
[45:16] Speaker 1: best division in terms of coaching with Peyton, Pete, Andy
[45:20] Speaker 1: and Harbaugh. So those are the two best divisions. And
[45:23] Speaker 1: I don't think it's a I don't think it's a coincidence.
[45:28] Speaker 2: Well, I just.
[45:32] Speaker 1: The South is such a huge college football region that
[45:35] Speaker 1: both the NFC and the AFC South are very good.
[45:38] Speaker 1: I've always surmised that college football is so big in
[45:41] Speaker 1: that part of the country that you don't face the
[45:43] Speaker 1: same level of pressure that you do on Northern teams
[45:46] Speaker 1: like New England, Boston Media, Philly Media, Baltimore Media. You know,
[45:51] Speaker 1: I mean like cold Weather, Pittsburgh. They live, they don't
[45:55] Speaker 1: care about college football. They live for the NFL. These
[45:58] Speaker 1: NFCAFC Souths. You're like, eh, we'll keep Todd Bowles again.
[46:03] Speaker 1: If he coaches the Eagles, he'd be gone tomorrow.
[46:05] Speaker 3: Said, you know what's funny is probably like a year ago,
[46:08] Speaker 3: Maria has a close friend who's really successful, girl UCLA grad,
[46:11] Speaker 3: just crushes. She's like thirty years old, she's got multiple properties.
[46:14] Speaker 3: And she was telling me this. She had this acronym.
[46:17] Speaker 3: I forget exactly what it was, but it basically described
[46:20] Speaker 3: high maintenance friends and the moment you become a high
[46:23] Speaker 3: maintenance friend in her life. She's got too much going on,
[46:25] Speaker 3: she got a young baby, she's out on you. If
[46:28] Speaker 3: I would have told you four or five years ago
[46:30] Speaker 3: that we'd be a week into free agency, and people
[46:32] Speaker 3: like Russell Wilson Aaron Rodgers like, yeah, well we'll get
[46:36] Speaker 3: back to you here a little bit. It's crazy. How
[46:39] Speaker 3: And I think both guys, if they were viewed, let's
[46:42] Speaker 3: use Geno and Sam, are viewed as low maintenance, good guys.
[46:45] Speaker 3: Everyone likes them. No problems. If both these guys were
[46:48] Speaker 3: viewed as just normal humans, like a Drew Brees or
[46:51] Speaker 3: I know he's like super high care, but I just
[46:53] Speaker 3: mean like normal guys. I think they both would have
[46:56] Speaker 3: been signed had they would have had a bidding war
[46:58] Speaker 3: for these guys, because they're still solid. They're clearly not
[47:02] Speaker 3: as good as they once were. But it's like the
[47:04] Speaker 3: first question. And I've been in these meetings, not necessarily
[47:07] Speaker 3: with these individual players, but players like this, like do
[47:10] Speaker 3: we want to deal with this? Like do we want
[47:12] Speaker 3: an either stardom is now bigger than their talent that
[47:16] Speaker 3: it's like, is this high maintenance worth the headache enough?
[47:22] Speaker 1: Look at des Bryant disappeared, don obj disappear, Aaron Rodgers
[47:27] Speaker 1: Russell not really interested? I think, and I'll throw this
[47:31] Speaker 1: at you. I love the NBA, but there's some high maintenance,
[47:35] Speaker 1: you know, these guaranteed contracts. I think the NFL people,
[47:39] Speaker 1: and I've had discussions with NFL people for my entire career.
[47:44] Speaker 1: They often reference Dude, that's an NBA, that's an NBA idea.
[47:51] Speaker 1: They make fun of the NBA and how much players
[47:54] Speaker 1: and employees control the entire organization. Embiid everybody's hostage doing.
[48:00] Speaker 1: And I mean you've heard gms reference this before, like
[48:04] Speaker 1: there Aaron and Russell are getting into sort of like
[48:07] Speaker 1: a little bit of NBA where you're like, this is
[48:11] Speaker 1: a team sport, like this is about the group and
[48:14] Speaker 1: the community not I mean when Aaron said, you know,
[48:19] Speaker 1: there's that picture in Malibu where he's you know, he's
[48:21] Speaker 1: got the pod pods on, and I'm thinking, every guy,
[48:25] Speaker 1: every NFL GM is thinking, listen, just make an e
[48:30] Speaker 1: fin decision. Okay, like you're not married, you don't have kids,
[48:33] Speaker 1: you're not doing much, you're golfing, and you're reading Greek
[48:36] Speaker 1: mythology like that to me, I listen. I've talked to
[48:40] Speaker 1: two GMS and they're like, you couldn't I'm not interested
[48:44] Speaker 1: in Aaron, and I'm like, yeah, but he's he's still
[48:46] Speaker 1: pretty good, and they're like that just I mean, Aaron
[48:49] Speaker 1: Glenn basically just said we're just no, thank you, and
[48:54] Speaker 1: Aaron was actually pretty good down the stretch. This isn't
[48:58] Speaker 1: a shot at Aaron. It's what I'm here from executives
[49:00] Speaker 1: in the league, it's like no thing well, I.
[49:02] Speaker 3: Mean, look look at the Titans. Their new GM is
[49:06] Speaker 3: from the Chiefs. So he's spend his whole time around
[49:08] Speaker 3: Andy Veach, Mahomes, Alex the guy kind of in this
[49:12] Speaker 3: weird position who's like the president, but he's also kind
[49:14] Speaker 3: of got a scouting background, is a packer guy. They
[49:17] Speaker 3: have no interest. Even if they're going to take cam Ward,
[49:19] Speaker 3: like you guys, get Aaron Rodgers, bring him to Nashville
[49:22] Speaker 3: for a year, get a little buzz. As you're building
[49:24] Speaker 3: this new stadium. You haven't heard a peep, you know.
[49:26] Speaker 3: It's like, it's just crazy. How think of the top
[49:30] Speaker 3: quarterbacks in this in the league, Patrick Mahomes, the only
[49:33] Speaker 3: maintenance they ever have to deal with is his family.
[49:35] Speaker 3: It's not him like he is. They don't even think
[49:38] Speaker 3: about him. Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Herbert Burrow. I mean
[49:44] Speaker 3: Burrow has kind of had to hold their feet to
[49:46] Speaker 3: the fire just historically this organization. If you put Burrow
[49:49] Speaker 3: in the Ravens or the Chiefs, he wouldn't be saying
[49:51] Speaker 3: a peep. He's just scared that this this owner is
[49:53] Speaker 3: going to be cheap. Don't blame him, but I think
[49:55] Speaker 3: the league, the star quarterbacks are just full of guys
[49:59] Speaker 3: who are just you never the season ends and It's like,
[50:02] Speaker 3: I don't know what Josh Allen's doing. He's just doing
[50:05] Speaker 3: You had a bachelor party at the Tiger Woods thing
[50:07] Speaker 3: in Orlando just with his buddies. And I think Aaron
[50:10] Speaker 3: Rodgers and Russell they're different personalities, but I think they
[50:13] Speaker 3: both check the same box of like, I don't know
[50:15] Speaker 3: if we have the energy and you're and you're not
[50:18] Speaker 3: good enough anymore for us to overlook at because if
[50:22] Speaker 3: you put Aaron Rodgers on Minnesota, you know, I could
[50:25] Speaker 3: see it going well, But I get on be good
[50:27] Speaker 3: team weird, like are you sure that you're comfortable with
[50:29] Speaker 3: him with JJ in that situation. But I do think
[50:33] Speaker 3: they're thinking long and hard. But these guys don't really
[50:35] Speaker 3: have options, so they can just kind of wait it
[50:37] Speaker 3: out and keep talking through it.
[50:40] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[50:40] Speaker 1: No, I think it's a reality that there's there's there's
[50:43] Speaker 1: The players now are richer sooner. I mean some of
[50:46] Speaker 1: these guys now going forward, John, they'll come in multimillionaires
[50:49] Speaker 1: out of college. So you're gonna see You're gonna see
[50:51] Speaker 1: two things. Guys retire sooner, and guys have a little
[50:55] Speaker 1: more leverage sooner. And and I think the fear on
[50:59] Speaker 1: the end FL is we don't want to become pro basketball,
[51:02] Speaker 1: where basically the employees are are running the team, you know,
[51:06] Speaker 1: like Kawhi showing up at four point thirty and saying, yeah,
[51:09] Speaker 1: I'm not going to play tonight, Like, no, we're not.
[51:11] Speaker 2: We're not going there.
[51:12] Speaker 3: And I think when the NFL benefits, I do think
[51:16] Speaker 3: it could get much weirder in the offseason with the
[51:19] Speaker 3: holdouts and the hold ends like that. That's probably is
[51:21] Speaker 3: at the beginning of that. But in the sport of football,
[51:25] Speaker 3: unlike like in basketball, these guys could play three hundred
[51:27] Speaker 3: and sixty five days a year if they want to
[51:28] Speaker 3: right pick up games, you can play whatever. In football,
[51:31] Speaker 3: the only time you can actually play a game is
[51:34] Speaker 3: in the confines of the seventeen weeks. And that's the
[51:37] Speaker 3: fun part. What Ray Lewis say, you pay me Monday
[51:39] Speaker 3: through Saturday. Sundays are for free. The games are really
[51:42] Speaker 3: the fun part for the players. That's the problem with
[51:44] Speaker 3: the NBA. Turn on the TV. You never know who's
[51:46] Speaker 3: going to play. Even in the NFL, guy making forty
[51:48] Speaker 3: fifty million dollars, he's still going to want to play
[51:50] Speaker 3: in the games. Laramie Tunzel a lot of articles are
[51:53] Speaker 3: coming out like, you know, he's kind of late to practice,
[51:55] Speaker 3: doesn't always work hard. It's like, well, you don't know
[51:57] Speaker 3: that if you just watch the TV, because you're like,
[51:59] Speaker 3: he's a good players. I'd want him on my team.
[52:01] Speaker 3: So yeah, the NFL, they're weird. Stuff happens during the
[52:04] Speaker 3: week when no one's paying attention that the games is
[52:06] Speaker 3: like all the guys want to play.
[52:09] Speaker 1: The Aaron Rodgers thing has been interesting because he wrote
[52:11] Speaker 1: the book, so you know him pretty well. And I
[52:15] Speaker 1: didn't think his I don't think his football. He's fine.
[52:19] Speaker 1: He's you know, somewhere between the thirteenth and sixteenth best quarterback.
[52:22] Speaker 2: He's fine.
[52:24] Speaker 1: I don't think he's quite as committed as the young
[52:26] Speaker 1: great ones. And I don't think he moves like the
[52:28] Speaker 1: young great ones. He's smart. But when Aaron Glenn came
[52:32] Speaker 1: in and for the second time in Aaron's career, he
[52:36] Speaker 1: was caught off guard a little by a team saying hey, thanks,
[52:39] Speaker 1: but no thanks. According to reports that you know, Aaron
[52:43] Speaker 1: had flown a cross country meeting with him, and Aaron
[52:45] Speaker 1: Glenn was like, we're going to move on and to
[52:48] Speaker 1: me downgraded at quarterback. I mean, when you write a
[52:56] Speaker 1: book on Aaron, you think you have a feel or
[52:59] Speaker 1: a vibe for him. I said this the other day.
[53:02] Speaker 1: If the Vikings say no, thanks, I think he retires.
[53:09] Speaker 1: When you look at how the season went and now
[53:11] Speaker 1: we're in this flux period. Are you surprised or could
[53:16] Speaker 1: you have predicted it based on the over one hundred
[53:19] Speaker 1: people you talk to in the conversation with Aaron, I.
[53:22] Speaker 8: Think I'm not surprised that he I think the overriding
[53:27] Speaker 8: feeling right now is that he still wants to play
[53:29] Speaker 8: in maybe two years. I had a friend of his
[53:32] Speaker 8: telling me two years a week ago, because he kind
[53:35] Speaker 8: of feels like this past season Colin was a rehab year,
[53:38] Speaker 8: and so if he has a good twenty twenty five,
[53:43] Speaker 8: I really do expect him to try to play in
[53:46] Speaker 8: twenty six.
[53:48] Speaker 4: But we'll even play at all, Retirement is on the table.
[53:51] Speaker 4: I think.
[53:51] Speaker 8: I don't think the Vikings are going to sign him.
[53:54] Speaker 8: That would be the best case scenario. But if you
[53:58] Speaker 8: let's say you put the Viking Kings roster or the
[54:01] Speaker 8: Steelers and the Giants had an equivalent talent base as
[54:05] Speaker 8: the Vikings, same coaching, same talent, I actually think he
[54:08] Speaker 8: picked the Giants because he does really like living in
[54:11] Speaker 8: the New York, New Jersey area, despite the fact that
[54:14] Speaker 8: the Jets thing was effectively a two year disaster. I
[54:18] Speaker 8: do think if the Giants had a Vikings roster, I
[54:22] Speaker 8: actually think he would pick the Giants. He has respect
[54:24] Speaker 8: for that organization. They've had good conversations. I've talked to
[54:28] Speaker 8: a couple of people with the Giants who said they
[54:29] Speaker 8: have no issues with him as a locker room presence.
[54:32] Speaker 8: As a personality, yeah, they don't care. They think he's
[54:35] Speaker 8: the best available quarterback and they want him. They've made
[54:37] Speaker 8: a good offer. If I had to put twenty bucks
[54:40] Speaker 8: down today, I think he'll be the starting quarterback for
[54:43] Speaker 8: the Steelers because I think he preferred the Vikings.
[54:48] Speaker 4: But the Steelers, I think, really do want him.
[54:50] Speaker 8: They've made that clear, and Mike Tomlin gives him the
[54:54] Speaker 8: kind of coaching last year Colin. I've been doing this
[54:57] Speaker 8: almost forty years in the New York market. That is
[54:59] Speaker 8: one the two or three worst coaching jobs I've ever
[55:02] Speaker 8: seen in any sport in New York. And so to
[55:05] Speaker 8: go from that to Mike Tomlin. If Mike Tomlin coached
[55:09] Speaker 8: the twenty twenty four Jets, they would have gone ten
[55:11] Speaker 8: and seven. I'm convinced of that. That was a ten
[55:14] Speaker 8: and seventeam that went five and twelve with horrific coaching.
[55:19] Speaker 8: So I think with the Steelers and with the playmakers
[55:22] Speaker 8: they have now and that roster and particularly the coaching,
[55:26] Speaker 8: I think Aaron can go ten and seven, maybe eleven
[55:30] Speaker 8: and six, and get back in the playoffs, and maybe
[55:32] Speaker 8: that's the way to end his career. I think where
[55:34] Speaker 8: the Giants are right now because they don't have that
[55:37] Speaker 8: roster that we were talking about earlier with the Vikings,
[55:40] Speaker 8: he's looking at that saying, geez, do I want to
[55:43] Speaker 8: finish my career going five and twelve for one New
[55:46] Speaker 8: York team and five and twelve for another. Have you
[55:48] Speaker 8: looked at the Giants home schedule? Let me run these
[55:53] Speaker 8: eight games by you, and you tell me they play
[55:55] Speaker 8: nine on the road next year and eight at home.
[55:57] Speaker 8: You tell me who the Giants are beating from this group? Dallas, Okay,
[56:01] Speaker 8: I think they can beat Dallas. But then they're playing
[56:03] Speaker 8: at home, Philly, Washington, Green Bay, Kansas City, the Chargers,
[56:08] Speaker 8: the Vikings, and the forty nine ers. How many of
[56:10] Speaker 8: those games are they winning? Maybe two if they're lucky.
[56:14] Speaker 8: They go two and six at home, then on the road,
[56:16] Speaker 8: they're at Dallas, they're at Philly, they're at Washington, they're
[56:19] Speaker 8: at Denver, they're at Detroit.
[56:21] Speaker 4: How many those games are they winning?
[56:22] Speaker 8: So I think Aaron is far enough to look at
[56:25] Speaker 8: that and say, do I really want to go five
[56:27] Speaker 8: and twelve?
[56:27] Speaker 4: Even if I play better?
[56:29] Speaker 8: And even though I don't think the Jet thing is
[56:32] Speaker 8: really going to hurt his legacy, I don't think ten
[56:34] Speaker 8: fifteen years from now, when he's already in the Hall
[56:36] Speaker 8: of Fame as a packer, people are going to be
[56:38] Speaker 8: talking about his experience with the Jets. But if he
[56:40] Speaker 8: does that again with a second team, I do think
[56:43] Speaker 8: that will hurt his legacy. So to me, if the
[56:46] Speaker 8: Vikings aren't interested and they're going with McCarthy pretty much
[56:50] Speaker 8: right away, I think the Steelers make a lot of sense.
[56:53] Speaker 8: I think Tomlin is a built in insurance policy that
[56:56] Speaker 8: it won't be a disaster. I think he should do that.
[56:58] Speaker 8: I think he'll play better. I think he'll make the playoffs,
[57:01] Speaker 8: and that's the way to go out.
[57:04] Speaker 1: So I said this the other day on the show.
[57:08] Speaker 1: You know, obviously I was in the Northeast for ten
[57:10] Speaker 1: and a half years. But one of the things I
[57:12] Speaker 1: observed when I was in the city a lot or
[57:15] Speaker 1: near it in Connecticut is that, you know, there's a
[57:18] Speaker 1: lot of Yankee and Met fans, and a lot of
[57:20] Speaker 1: Giant and Jet fans, but everybody in New York likes
[57:25] Speaker 1: the Knicks. It's just every single friend I had in
[57:29] Speaker 1: New York, and many of them, more than the Yankees
[57:32] Speaker 1: or Giants, were Nick fans first. And again, I'm old
[57:37] Speaker 1: enough to remember the Walt Fraser, Bill Bradley, Earl Monroe. Yet,
[57:41] Speaker 1: like I go back to the seventies when nobody won.
[57:43] Speaker 1: You know, the Lakers won a title, the Warriors did,
[57:45] Speaker 1: the Washington Bullets did, the Sonics, the Blazers, the Knicks,
[57:49] Speaker 1: and then there were the pat Riley iterations. But I
[57:53] Speaker 1: always said, God, if Dolan could get out of the way,
[57:56] Speaker 1: this city loves its team so much. And I think
[58:00] Speaker 1: when the sphere got built for two years, Dolan removed
[58:03] Speaker 1: himself from the facility, I mean literally physically. He was
[58:07] Speaker 1: in Vegas so often, and it allowed the Knicks to
[58:10] Speaker 1: really grow this really strong basketball group, and I think
[58:14] Speaker 1: they've made very patient, very sharp moves. I don't think
[58:19] Speaker 1: Kat is the future, but I think he was the
[58:21] Speaker 1: right move at the right time.
[58:23] Speaker 2: But there was a moment.
[58:24] Speaker 1: Between Tibbs and Josh Hart the other day and Mikhale
[58:28] Speaker 1: Bridges it was public that he had gone to Tibbs. Hey,
[58:30] Speaker 1: we need to play the starters less, you know, young
[58:35] Speaker 1: players don't get a lot of work and minutes under Tibbs.
[58:39] Speaker 1: As great as the brief journey has been with Tom,
[58:44] Speaker 1: it does feel like, does it not ian To get
[58:47] Speaker 1: to the next level, you need two moves. Karl Anthony
[58:51] Speaker 1: Towns probably gets replaced with a better defensive big or
[58:55] Speaker 1: just like a KD a greater player, and Tibbs may
[58:58] Speaker 1: not be the answer. Or is that me three thousand
[59:01] Speaker 1: miles away guessing, Well.
[59:03] Speaker 4: I think it's possible that's the case.
[59:05] Speaker 8: I do think Tibbs is good enough to win a
[59:08] Speaker 8: championship as a head coach. They lose in the second
[59:11] Speaker 8: round again this year, I don't think he'll get replaced
[59:14] Speaker 8: because I think he'll lose to a better team. I
[59:16] Speaker 8: think the Celtics are better, and surprisingly enough, I did
[59:20] Speaker 8: not think the Cavs would be better, but they are.
[59:22] Speaker 8: They just are so if they lose in the second round,
[59:25] Speaker 8: to say, the Celtics do you fire the guy with
[59:29] Speaker 8: that you're losing to a better team. The Celtics have
[59:31] Speaker 8: better players. The Knicks have improved their roster certainly. And
[59:36] Speaker 8: I didn't think Jalen Brunson. I wasn't sure if he'd
[59:38] Speaker 8: be this or could be the second best player in
[59:40] Speaker 8: a championship team when they acquired him. Now I do
[59:43] Speaker 8: think he could be one of the top two, if
[59:45] Speaker 8: not the best player on a championship team. He's an
[59:48] Speaker 8: incredible player, and I think a lot of people in
[59:50] Speaker 8: New York were surprised by that. I think where the
[59:53] Speaker 8: Knicks are right now, it's kind of funny because Jets
[59:56] Speaker 8: fans have been complaining and complaining about Woody Johnson, the
[59:58] Speaker 8: owner for a long time. Forty Johnson hires and we'll
[1:00:01] Speaker 8: find out if he did the right general manager and
[1:00:04] Speaker 8: Mouji and the right head coach and Aaron Glenn.
[1:00:07] Speaker 4: He's going to go away and Jets fans will never
[1:00:09] Speaker 4: talk about him.
[1:00:11] Speaker 8: Knicks fans are not talking about Jim Dahl, and they
[1:00:13] Speaker 8: have it now for a number of years because he
[1:00:16] Speaker 8: hired the right general manager.
[1:00:17] Speaker 4: And I was a gamble. Leon Rose had never done
[1:00:19] Speaker 4: this job.
[1:00:20] Speaker 8: He was a very good agent, he had never been
[1:00:21] Speaker 8: a general manager, and early on I wasn't so sure,
[1:00:24] Speaker 8: but turns out he knows what he's doing.
[1:00:27] Speaker 4: And Tim's of course everybody knew he knew what he
[1:00:29] Speaker 4: was doing.
[1:00:31] Speaker 8: He's proven that he could be a very valuable piece
[1:00:33] Speaker 8: of the coaching staff that won a championship in Boston
[1:00:35] Speaker 8: under Doc Rivers.
[1:00:37] Speaker 4: And so is he.
[1:00:39] Speaker 8: It's almost like Buck Showalter did all the dirty work
[1:00:42] Speaker 8: in on the Yankees in the mid nineties and then
[1:00:45] Speaker 8: he got replaced by Joe Tory, and Joe Torre then
[1:00:47] Speaker 8: won four World Series. So I'm not saying that the
[1:00:50] Speaker 8: next Knicks coach is going to win four titles in the.
[1:00:53] Speaker 4: Next five years after that happens.
[1:00:55] Speaker 8: But I think that he's going to get one more
[1:00:59] Speaker 8: year year after another second round exit. Maybe the Knicks
[1:01:03] Speaker 8: will surprise us and win that second round matchup with
[1:01:05] Speaker 8: say the Celtics. I don't think that will happen, but
[1:01:08] Speaker 8: I do think you're right in terms of the roster.
[1:01:10] Speaker 8: It looks like they're still believe it or not after
[1:01:13] Speaker 8: all the moves they've made and what five number one
[1:01:16] Speaker 8: picks for Bridges and then they made the Cat deal
[1:01:18] Speaker 8: and they Brunson deal, was an incredible one. It still
[1:01:21] Speaker 8: looks like they need to make one more move, and
[1:01:24] Speaker 8: maybe Kat is a part of that package. But yeah,
[1:01:28] Speaker 8: right now, it's just they're in a tough way because
[1:01:30] Speaker 8: of the Celtics being in their way, and now the
[1:01:32] Speaker 8: Cavs had hurdled them, and they sure look like they're
[1:01:36] Speaker 8: for real.
[1:01:38] Speaker 3: Yeah.
[1:01:38] Speaker 1: I think the Hertenstein move, which I think they were
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: kind of trapped, there's not much they could do. I
[1:01:44] Speaker 1: thought he added some real toughness and rebounding that's very
[1:01:47] Speaker 1: hard to replace. Kat is a more gifted offensive player,
[1:01:50] Speaker 1: but he's not the toughest guy in the league, and
[1:01:51] Speaker 1: he's a poor defender. Hartenstein had this sort of New
[1:01:54] Speaker 1: York toughness, just a fighter on the glass, and it
[1:01:58] Speaker 1: felt like he was just part He almost felt like,
[1:02:00] Speaker 1: you know, he had that Villanova feel. He was just
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: an overachiever and a fighter, and I think sometimes in
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: the NBA, it's not what you want to do, it's
[1:02:08] Speaker 1: what you have to do. And they let him go
[1:02:09] Speaker 1: to ok See, and you know, it doesn't quite feel
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: like the same team. John Middlecoff from her NFL Scout,
[1:02:21] Speaker 1: all right, let's let's uh, let's do a little NFL.
[1:02:24] Speaker 1: The draft is coming up in a couple of weeks,
[1:02:27] Speaker 1: so I was I was sitting with a Packer fan
[1:02:29] Speaker 1: the other night having dinner. My wife and I were
[1:02:33] Speaker 1: with some acquaintances in Chicago and they were talking about
[1:02:35] Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers and two people at the table said, well,
[1:02:39] Speaker 1: why hasn't he signed? And I said, well, I think Aaron,
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: deep down nos Pittsburgh's fools, gold Dk Metcalf, George Pickens,
[1:02:49] Speaker 1: a lot of drama. They can't get their O line right,
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: they lost Nause Harris and their left tackle. I don't
[1:02:55] Speaker 1: know if the offensive coordinator is Aaron's type of guy.
[1:02:59] Speaker 1: So I think Aaron and if he thought Pittsburgh was
[1:03:01] Speaker 1: the deal, he would sign with Pittsburgh. And my take
[1:03:05] Speaker 1: on Aaron is he really wants to sign with Minnesota,
[1:03:08] Speaker 1: and Minnesota right now has kind of bounced around and
[1:03:11] Speaker 1: been a little ambiguous with JJ McCarthy injury wise. But
[1:03:17] Speaker 1: I'll just ask you, is I think if Aaron wanted
[1:03:19] Speaker 1: to sign, he would, and I think he knows. Pittsburgh's
[1:03:22] Speaker 1: fraught with issues, you know, defensive culture, defensive spending, two
[1:03:27] Speaker 1: high maintenance receivers, left tackle gone, They've had a battle
[1:03:31] Speaker 1: line for seven years, why do you think.
[1:03:33] Speaker 3: Yeah, remember you had Danny parkins on probably a month ago,
[1:03:36] Speaker 3: and he thought that Aaron was going to sign it
[1:03:38] Speaker 3: at Pat McAfee's deal in Pittsburgh, And at first I
[1:03:40] Speaker 3: thought he was crazy, and then the closer we got
[1:03:42] Speaker 3: him like, yeah, maybe it's gonna happen. So I kind
[1:03:45] Speaker 3: of expected him just to announce at that thing, and
[1:03:47] Speaker 3: then it doesn't happen, and you're like, well, maybe this
[1:03:50] Speaker 3: is not inevitable. And like you said, Kevin O'Connell, I
[1:03:55] Speaker 3: think he said at the owners meetings that two things
[1:03:58] Speaker 3: can be true. We believe in JJ McCarthy, and we'd
[1:04:01] Speaker 3: also not be doing our job if we weren't showing
[1:04:03] Speaker 3: interest in Aaron Rodgers. They get a tryout period at
[1:04:06] Speaker 3: least physically how it's going to look with JJ McCarthy
[1:04:09] Speaker 3: and Ota. So if you're Rogers, it's like, well, what
[1:04:12] Speaker 3: is Pittsburgh gonna do? Even if they Shaudre Sanders falls
[1:04:15] Speaker 3: of them, they still wouldn't be interested in bringing me in.
[1:04:18] Speaker 3: That they want to win next year. Schador doesn't guarantee
[1:04:20] Speaker 3: that right, So he actually has a weird amount of
[1:04:23] Speaker 3: leverage over Mike Tomlin and Pittsburgh. I mean, that can't
[1:04:25] Speaker 3: feel great if you're Steelers like Aaron Rodgers, but he
[1:04:28] Speaker 3: has no leverage in Minnesota, which is clearly his best
[1:04:30] Speaker 3: spot unless OTA's you know, the coach goes.
[1:04:35] Speaker 1: I don't know.
[1:04:36] Speaker 3: They still looks skinny, maybe the offense doesn't look as smooth.
[1:04:39] Speaker 3: Maybe physically he just doesn't look right. So I think
[1:04:42] Speaker 3: he can gauge if there are reports after you know,
[1:04:46] Speaker 3: a couple of those OTA practices, which again I'm not
[1:04:49] Speaker 3: acting like those are the end all be all, but
[1:04:51] Speaker 3: from a physical standpoint, we saw him walk the sideline
[1:04:54] Speaker 3: against the Lions. He looked like he weighed one hundred
[1:04:56] Speaker 3: and seventy five pounds and he had needed multiple knee search.
[1:05:00] Speaker 3: I understand, and listen, I like the player as well,
[1:05:03] Speaker 3: but you can't go off just one good experience in
[1:05:06] Speaker 3: a preseason game for a team that if you just
[1:05:09] Speaker 3: removed the quarterback for every team in the NFL, Minnesota
[1:05:13] Speaker 3: undoubtedly would be a top five pick of a roster team.
[1:05:17] Speaker 3: You would take them probably above like the Chiefs or
[1:05:19] Speaker 3: the Bills, but quarterback matters.
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: Well, they just revamped their I mean the Bears and
[1:05:23] Speaker 1: the Vikings both real upgrades. On our own line, so
[1:05:27] Speaker 1: we know we like Minnesota's coach and running back and
[1:05:30] Speaker 1: wide receivers and tight end. They went and shored up
[1:05:34] Speaker 1: their offensive line, so I think it's one of the
[1:05:36] Speaker 1: more attractive places in the league.
[1:05:37] Speaker 3: So to me, if if you have any reservations, I
[1:05:41] Speaker 3: also think if I'm Kevin O'Connell, I go Aerin. We
[1:05:45] Speaker 3: want you, and I'd even do it before OTAs, but
[1:05:48] Speaker 3: we're offering you a veteran minimum, no guaranteed, Like you've
[1:05:51] Speaker 3: already made five hundred and four hundred million dollars on
[1:05:53] Speaker 3: and off the field. Who knows how much you've made,
[1:05:55] Speaker 3: but we're not guaranteeing you anything. So if things ever
[1:05:57] Speaker 3: get weird or it doesn't fit, we can both move on,
[1:06:00] Speaker 3: you know, cause if you really want this, because you're
[1:06:03] Speaker 3: no dummy, you know this is by far your best opportunity.
[1:06:05] Speaker 3: But like I don't know what Pittsburgh has even offered
[1:06:08] Speaker 3: him one year, twenty million dollars, something like the Minnesota
[1:06:10] Speaker 3: wouldn't even entertain something like that one year a couple
[1:06:13] Speaker 3: of million dollars. And if things don't work after training camp,
[1:06:17] Speaker 3: we can both go our separate ways. But we're not
[1:06:18] Speaker 3: being stuck. But I wouldn't fault them for being interested,
[1:06:22] Speaker 3: just because we have seen enough now with you know,
[1:06:26] Speaker 3: most of these rookie quarterbacks go to really shitty teams, right,
[1:06:30] Speaker 3: so it's like even if you have a bad year whatever.
[1:06:31] Speaker 3: Trevor Lawrence's first year with ierban Meyer, he got like
[1:06:34] Speaker 3: a pass. It's happened twice now, a guy's been drafted
[1:06:37] Speaker 3: really high and gone to a team with like legit
[1:06:39] Speaker 3: playoff expectations. Trey Lance was higher than Caleb, but Caleb
[1:06:42] Speaker 3: had pretty big expectation, and then it was just it's
[1:06:44] Speaker 3: a lot of pressure, a lot of stuff going on.
[1:06:46] Speaker 3: That is JJ McCarthy. I know he's a second year player,
[1:06:49] Speaker 3: but he's technically like you know, like Flake Griffin, right,
[1:06:51] Speaker 3: he didn't play his rookie year because he tore his
[1:06:53] Speaker 3: eight knee. You're a rookie, you know, on the field
[1:06:56] Speaker 3: like that. You can't have much more pressure as a
[1:06:59] Speaker 3: first time starting COQ quarterback. That's twenty two years old,
[1:07:02] Speaker 3: it's never played. Kevin O'Connell is not Kyle shannan. You
[1:07:05] Speaker 3: watch him in those the game against Detroit and the playoff.
[1:07:08] Speaker 3: He's calling pass place he wants to. He's a McVeigh.
[1:07:10] Speaker 3: He wants to and Andy he wants to pass. JJ
[1:07:13] Speaker 3: played in a running office. Remember when they beat Penn
[1:07:15] Speaker 3: State and they didn't hand they didn't pass the ball
[1:07:17] Speaker 3: in the second half like the Michigan handoff handoff handoff
[1:07:20] Speaker 3: play d that's what he's used to doing.
[1:07:23] Speaker 1: No, Yeah, I think there's real concerns there, and I
[1:07:28] Speaker 1: think Aaron's smart to just I would wait till the
[1:07:31] Speaker 1: drafts over. I want to see where the ships fall.
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: I don't want to get burned like Kirk Cousins. And
[1:07:36] Speaker 1: I'm going to sit around if I'm Aaron, and if
[1:07:37] Speaker 1: I don't get the right offer, I got a two
[1:07:39] Speaker 1: hundred million bucks.
[1:07:40] Speaker 3: I think definitely still on the table.
[1:07:42] Speaker 1: You know, there's so do wid I want to talk
[1:07:45] Speaker 1: about this because this got a lot of pushback this weekend.
[1:07:50] Speaker 1: So Tennessee is a very young quarterback and he was
[1:07:55] Speaker 1: making about two million dollars. They were paying him two
[1:07:57] Speaker 1: million dollars when he was red shirting as a freshman
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: to not play. And his name is and I'll just
[1:08:03] Speaker 1: call him Nico. He's got a long last name and
[1:08:07] Speaker 1: I don't want to butcher it. So I watched him
[1:08:08] Speaker 1: play three or four. Well, I probably watched him play
[1:08:11] Speaker 1: four or five times last year against the better teams.
[1:08:14] Speaker 1: He was a young quarterback, not overwhelmed, but not a
[1:08:20] Speaker 1: missus open receivers. He's not should do or accurate. But
[1:08:23] Speaker 1: he's also not draft eligible right now. He's going to grow.
[1:08:26] Speaker 1: But he's a really nice talent. He's slender, he moves well,
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: he's got a decent arm. And my take is, so
[1:08:32] Speaker 1: he comes out this weekend and basically doesn't show up
[1:08:35] Speaker 1: to practice and says I want four million, and Tennessee,
[1:08:39] Speaker 1: to their credit, is like, listen, we're not going to
[1:08:41] Speaker 1: play that game.
[1:08:42] Speaker 2: We're going to let him go.
[1:08:43] Speaker 1: And I thought it would have been very difficult to
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: hold out, not show up to practice, and come back.
[1:08:48] Speaker 1: So I think the volunteers made the right decision as
[1:08:52] Speaker 1: a program to say, listen, this isn't going to work,
[1:08:55] Speaker 1: this is a bad vibe, this is bad locker room smell.
[1:08:57] Speaker 2: Here, we're moving on.
[1:08:58] Speaker 1: I totally agree with that, but I wasn't necessarily bothered
[1:09:02] Speaker 1: by the move because it is April and coaches now
[1:09:06] Speaker 1: are fetching twelve to thirteen million dollars in college football.
[1:09:09] Speaker 1: So if a top quarterback wants four I'm like, I'm
[1:09:13] Speaker 1: not going to hate the player. You can hate the system,
[1:09:16] Speaker 1: you can hate nil, but I think this is I
[1:09:20] Speaker 1: think this is what we're going to see. This this
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: is the way the game works now. I don't think
[1:09:25] Speaker 1: it'll hurt him in the NFL. I think eventually, if
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: he has a great year, people draft him. Everybody needs quarterbacks.
[1:09:31] Speaker 1: Nobody care. I mean, Cayleb Williams had some emotional stuff
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: people didn't like, Johnny Manziel had all sorts of it.
[1:09:36] Speaker 1: There'll be a team that'll draft him that needs a quarterback.
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: What do you make What do you make of the
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: kid doing it? What do you make A Tennessee's react.
[1:09:46] Speaker 3: Which get the kid's name. But there's a pass rusher
[1:09:48] Speaker 3: on South Carolina the game Cocks who's like looks like
[1:09:50] Speaker 3: a clowney or just like a you know, Miles Garrett.
[1:09:54] Speaker 3: In the middle of the season. They're like, they had
[1:09:56] Speaker 3: to up what they were going to pay him, and
[1:09:58] Speaker 3: you get true freshman. He looks like he's got a
[1:10:00] Speaker 3: chance to be like a number one overall pick. I
[1:10:02] Speaker 3: have no problem when you're an elite player. Renegotiating happens
[1:10:06] Speaker 3: in pro sports all the time.
[1:10:08] Speaker 2: What happened.
[1:10:08] Speaker 3: Who holds out in the NFL Micah Parsons, Nick Bosa, right,
[1:10:13] Speaker 3: Justin Jefferson, Jordan Jamar Chase. This guy did not have
[1:10:17] Speaker 3: a good year. I'm with you. I watched a lot
[1:10:20] Speaker 3: of them last year because Tennessee was good and they
[1:10:22] Speaker 3: were in the mix. Have you heard of him in
[1:10:24] Speaker 3: high school? Like he was one of the highly touted
[1:10:26] Speaker 3: guys in La Oh.
[1:10:27] Speaker 2: No, no oh.
[1:10:28] Speaker 1: I think he was the number one quarterback I believe
[1:10:30] Speaker 1: out of Los Angeles. So I watch all those guys
[1:10:33] Speaker 1: tape on YouTube. Again, moves well, lively arm I thought
[1:10:37] Speaker 1: as a college quarterback, his accuracy was against And again
[1:10:41] Speaker 1: I only watched the Tennessee games against the better teams.
[1:10:45] Speaker 1: Very hit and miss down the field, very hit and miss.
[1:10:48] Speaker 1: But again my takeaway is, okay, it's like a red
[1:10:50] Speaker 1: shirt freshman.
[1:10:51] Speaker 3: Well, here's my issue with the whole thing is all
[1:10:54] Speaker 3: reports have it it's his dad. You know they say
[1:10:56] Speaker 3: pigs get fed, hawks gets slaughtered. Like you said, he
[1:10:59] Speaker 3: got four years, eight million dollars without ever playing a snap,
[1:11:03] Speaker 3: where a lot of coaches, Kirby Smart does not give
[1:11:05] Speaker 3: those type contracts to high school kids, right, A lot
[1:11:08] Speaker 3: of the top coach because it's not good business. Tennessee
[1:11:11] Speaker 3: did because I think he was like second or third
[1:11:12] Speaker 3: overall recruit in the class Arch was one, So I
[1:11:15] Speaker 3: mean the hot, the hype, the hype was big, and
[1:11:18] Speaker 3: that he got paid for. I think he threw twenty
[1:11:20] Speaker 3: touchdowns last year and only nine of them came in
[1:11:23] Speaker 3: the SEC. He was not good in the SEC and
[1:11:25] Speaker 3: against good teams. So to try to renegotiate off a
[1:11:28] Speaker 3: bad year to me's bad business. And Dan Lanning turned
[1:11:32] Speaker 3: him in essentially like hey, you're getting played, yes, And
[1:11:35] Speaker 3: I think some of these coaches because again, he's not
[1:11:38] Speaker 3: that good. If he was viewed as a camp if
[1:11:41] Speaker 3: he was draft eligible right now, he's not getting drafted
[1:11:43] Speaker 3: in the top one hundred picks. It's all projection and
[1:11:47] Speaker 3: potential but not off actual play. And his dad again too,
[1:11:51] Speaker 3: and I think it was like two point two he
[1:11:53] Speaker 3: was scheduled to make this upcoming year. What if this
[1:11:55] Speaker 3: is one of those I forget the NBA player, but
[1:11:57] Speaker 3: he like opted out and he thought he could get
[1:11:59] Speaker 3: like eighty millillion dollars and ended up getting like a
[1:12:01] Speaker 3: one year eight million dollars. What if he can't even
[1:12:03] Speaker 3: get a million dollars in the transfer portal because some
[1:12:05] Speaker 3: of these coaches are going to go, well, he's a
[1:12:07] Speaker 3: little overhyped one, and we're going to try to make
[1:12:10] Speaker 3: a statement for our business. That's why Dan Lanny called
[1:12:14] Speaker 3: him right. This is because they're like, this is insane.
[1:12:17] Speaker 3: It'd be one thing if he was making one hundred
[1:12:19] Speaker 3: thousand dollars in like the hey, the going rates of
[1:12:20] Speaker 3: million dollars, a couple of million dollars would totally get it.
[1:12:23] Speaker 3: His dad, by all accounts, leading the charge. If someone
[1:12:26] Speaker 3: needs to give that guy some business advice, get Drew Rosenhouse,
[1:12:29] Speaker 3: because I think it's bad business. No issue if you're
[1:12:31] Speaker 3: an elite player, if it's Drake May a couple of
[1:12:34] Speaker 3: years ago or ashing genty guys that could transfer and
[1:12:37] Speaker 3: totally get it. This guy was completely underwhelming, Colin, This
[1:12:41] Speaker 3: guy was It's why I think Tennessee and most people universe,
[1:12:44] Speaker 3: they are like, this is nuts. This is this is
[1:12:47] Speaker 3: just dumb business. Two and a half million dollars to
[1:12:50] Speaker 3: play average football in the SEC. They were a defensive
[1:12:53] Speaker 3: team last year, which is ironic because Josh Hipel is
[1:12:55] Speaker 3: their coach, right.
[1:12:56] Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And if Josh Hipel's the coach, which you
[1:13:00] Speaker 1: would think it's one of those things where like when
[1:13:02] Speaker 1: Shanahan couldn't make Trey Lance work and the Cowboys gave
[1:13:07] Speaker 1: up before it's like that's bad GMing. Josh Heipel, you
[1:13:10] Speaker 1: would think would be able to get the most out
[1:13:13] Speaker 1: of this kid.
[1:13:14] Speaker 2: I think.
[1:13:18] Speaker 1: One of the things the NBA. I never understood this
[1:13:21] Speaker 1: about the G League. So let's not pretend this is
[1:13:24] Speaker 1: the fifties, sixties or seventies where basketball players are all
[1:13:28] Speaker 1: starving coming into college basketball.
[1:13:31] Speaker 2: They're not.
[1:13:31] Speaker 1: It's a suburb sport aau kids. The good players are
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: all getting taken care of. Even before nil kids were
[1:13:38] Speaker 1: getting swag chef money.
[1:13:40] Speaker 2: They're getting treated great.
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: I have like, yeah, So I never understood kids that
[1:13:46] Speaker 1: went to the G League instead of going and playing
[1:13:51] Speaker 1: for a top six program where you're on television twenty
[1:13:55] Speaker 1: five times. I know Zion because he went to Duke.
[1:13:59] Speaker 1: Would you rather take four hundred thousand dollars for the
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: G League or three hundred thousand dollars or take thirty
[1:14:06] Speaker 1: five million dollars of free marketing and advertising for Duke?
[1:14:11] Speaker 1: And people say, well, they didn't grow up with a
[1:14:13] Speaker 1: lot of money. Again, it's a year You're not asking
[1:14:16] Speaker 1: him to take a seven eight year hiatus away from money.
[1:14:20] Speaker 1: This is not like, this is not I mean again,
[1:14:24] Speaker 1: great au basketball players are getting taken care of. So
[1:14:28] Speaker 1: I kind of feel the same way about the dad here.
[1:14:32] Speaker 1: I don't blame the kid, but it's like, if you
[1:14:36] Speaker 1: have one good year, if you come back to Tennessee
[1:14:38] Speaker 1: and have thirty touchdowns, eight picks, and you move well,
[1:14:44] Speaker 1: you will be a first or an early second round
[1:14:47] Speaker 1: pick next year. Because there's Arch Manning will go number one.
[1:14:50] Speaker 1: After that, there's about five guys and they're all in
[1:14:53] Speaker 1: the same class. It depends how the season goes. I
[1:14:57] Speaker 1: just think the dad, it's a certain self, which is understandable.
[1:15:01] Speaker 3: A lot of these dads, a lot of human beings,
[1:15:04] Speaker 3: would not have any clue or knowledge what to do
[1:15:07] Speaker 3: in this situation. If I was one of these people
[1:15:10] Speaker 3: that had the opportunity to make millions of dollars and
[1:15:13] Speaker 3: now in this world where I can get real representation,
[1:15:17] Speaker 3: I would have Tennessee, Hey, could we get in contact
[1:15:20] Speaker 3: with either CAA Rosenhaus. I'd want someone real negotiating my thing.
[1:15:24] Speaker 3: And I would imagine they're like, well, Carson Beck just
[1:15:26] Speaker 3: got four million dollars. Well, two years ago, when Carson
[1:15:29] Speaker 3: Beck had Lad McConkey and Brock Bowers, a lot of
[1:15:32] Speaker 3: us thought like this guy could be a first round pick.
[1:15:34] Speaker 3: He had a really, really good year. Now I think
[1:15:36] Speaker 3: most of us also about Miami's kind of crazy. But
[1:15:40] Speaker 3: some of these numbers to get thrown around, no one
[1:15:42] Speaker 3: truly knows what's real or not. It's pretty clear like
[1:15:44] Speaker 3: it was concrete. This guy signed an eight million dollar
[1:15:46] Speaker 3: four year deal and if he came back in three years,
[1:15:50] Speaker 3: he will have banked over six million dollars in a
[1:15:52] Speaker 3: no state income to state at I don't know where
[1:15:55] Speaker 3: Tennessee like, I don't have a great feel for their
[1:15:57] Speaker 3: roster right now. In April, I would guess it's a
[1:15:59] Speaker 3: top ten during college football and you got a pretty
[1:16:01] Speaker 3: good chance to compete. So we'll have to see where
[1:16:04] Speaker 3: this guy ends up. But it doesn't feel like Oregon,
[1:16:06] Speaker 3: Ohio State are just lined up for the kid. So
[1:16:08] Speaker 3: if he if he ends up losing money, not only
[1:16:11] Speaker 3: would it be a bad business decision a football decision.
[1:16:14] Speaker 3: The Tennessee's got to be on the short list of
[1:16:17] Speaker 3: great places to be a young quarterback playing football In
[1:16:19] Speaker 3: twenty twenty five right.
[1:16:22] Speaker 2: Listen.
[1:16:22] Speaker 1: I've learned over the course of my life is the
[1:16:24] Speaker 1: young media oh as sides with the player because it's
[1:16:28] Speaker 1: a good story and all the narrative. They don't come
[1:16:31] Speaker 1: from anything. We don't know that. Again, if you're the
[1:16:34] Speaker 1: number one or two or three high school football quarterback
[1:16:36] Speaker 1: in the country, you're getting taken care of by a
[1:16:40] Speaker 1: lot of people. So I just think it's one of
[1:16:44] Speaker 1: those situations. I don't blame the kid. And I think
[1:16:47] Speaker 1: when I watched him, I thought, oh, yeah, I can
[1:16:49] Speaker 1: see it. I mean, he's got talent, but he's.
[1:16:51] Speaker 3: Got no fuel. He's got no fuel, and I will
[1:16:53] Speaker 3: say it he doesn't.
[1:16:55] Speaker 1: That's the when you watch like, you can say what
[1:16:58] Speaker 1: you want about sid Or Sanders. He has a feel.
[1:17:00] Speaker 1: He's an accurate throw of the football under duress, like
[1:17:03] Speaker 1: you can tell he's quarterbacked a lot. And also Shore
[1:17:06] Speaker 1: is not a great enough athlete to make extra yards
[1:17:09] Speaker 1: running around. He's had to make hey in the pocket.
[1:17:12] Speaker 1: And by the way, his dad Dion Smart. He's told
[1:17:15] Speaker 1: that kid, kid, you want to get rich, don't be
[1:17:18] Speaker 1: a run around guy, sit in the pocket and throw darts.
[1:17:20] Speaker 1: I mean, Dion knows what the hell's going on. So
[1:17:23] Speaker 1: when you watch Shadoor Sanders, you can clearly tell that
[1:17:26] Speaker 1: he can see the field.
[1:17:27] Speaker 2: He's super accurate. This kid's just talented.
[1:17:30] Speaker 1: But yeah, but I you know, I do think they're
[1:17:34] Speaker 1: the family needs to take a deep breath because I mean,
[1:17:37] Speaker 1: if he's great, he'll get drafted. I don't think he's great.
[1:17:40] Speaker 1: I just think he's talented. You know, we talk a
[1:17:43] Speaker 1: lot Aaron Rodgers, and I know it's tiring, but and
[1:17:47] Speaker 1: I really don't care where he goes. If you're retired, great,
[1:17:50] Speaker 1: if he goes to Pittsburgh find they're a third place team,
[1:17:53] Speaker 1: I don't really care. And he has some personal drama
[1:17:58] Speaker 1: situation in his life, so I can have some of
[1:18:00] Speaker 1: the people that I don't really care that if you
[1:18:04] Speaker 1: were in the league and worked in the league, if
[1:18:06] Speaker 1: he just retired, how would Pittsburgh view him?
[1:18:10] Speaker 2: If they were caught off guard.
[1:18:12] Speaker 3: I just don't think they had many other options. Like
[1:18:14] Speaker 3: I don't think that they are losing a bunch of
[1:18:17] Speaker 3: sleep over the situation, which sounds crazy, but we have
[1:18:20] Speaker 3: a pretty good sample size now knowing that they think
[1:18:23] Speaker 3: they could get around. I don't know somehow, not having
[1:18:26] Speaker 3: attempting to get a Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson just drafting quarterbacks.
[1:18:30] Speaker 3: You're in, you're out. But at this point in time, Colin,
[1:18:32] Speaker 3: it's May fifteenth. I mean, what are we doing here?
[1:18:36] Speaker 3: I mean I think they have to at least have
[1:18:38] Speaker 3: come to grips with like everything's kind of on the
[1:18:40] Speaker 3: table here that they cannot for a very old school organization.
[1:18:45] Speaker 3: I saw a quote from I don't think he's the
[1:18:47] Speaker 3: Papa Rooney. He's like the sixty year old Rooney that said,
[1:18:50] Speaker 3: you know, we don't love playing at night late in
[1:18:52] Speaker 3: the season. It's like, well, that usually means you're good.
[1:18:55] Speaker 3: It comes with the territory. You think Andy Reid wants
[1:18:57] Speaker 3: to play all these night games. No, but it comes
[1:18:59] Speaker 3: with being the chief. You're the Pittsburgh Steelers. I just
[1:19:03] Speaker 3: think they have gotten to this position where it's ard.
[1:19:06] Speaker 3: I mean, look at the Saints. Tru Breese retires and
[1:19:09] Speaker 3: they're just going through quarterbacks. They tried to Derek that failed.
[1:19:12] Speaker 3: Now they're in this weird position with a twenty eight
[1:19:14] Speaker 3: year old rookie. It's not like an easy solution, but
[1:19:17] Speaker 3: they've shown their true colors of like their organizational philosophy
[1:19:22] Speaker 3: is run the ball and play defense that is Bruce Arians.
[1:19:25] Speaker 3: When Roethlisberger was turning into a star, the Rooney family
[1:19:28] Speaker 3: was not happy with them throwing the ball so much.
[1:19:30] Speaker 3: That's when they were winning the Super Bowl. You know,
[1:19:34] Speaker 3: the organizational philosophy does not start with Mike Tomlin. It
[1:19:38] Speaker 3: starts with the Rooney family clad run the ball. I mean, look,
[1:19:42] Speaker 3: they draft that running back who I like, the Iowa kid,
[1:19:45] Speaker 3: and they drafted defensive tackle in the first They've been
[1:19:48] Speaker 3: doing the same thing since well before I was alive,
[1:19:50] Speaker 3: and I think they are going to be doing it
[1:19:52] Speaker 3: well after Tomlin's gone one day. So I think whether
[1:19:55] Speaker 3: Rogers shows up or whether they Mason Rudolph hands the
[1:19:58] Speaker 3: ball to Caleb Johnson and they to stuff the run
[1:20:01] Speaker 3: with Harmon and TJ. Watt like that's how they're gonna play,
[1:20:04] Speaker 3: which is insane, But you could argue even if he
[1:20:06] Speaker 3: shows up, they're gonna beat Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson
[1:20:09] Speaker 3: of these teams. So it's the Bills. What are we
[1:20:12] Speaker 3: even talking about? They are kind of stuck. They're like
[1:20:15] Speaker 3: the better version of the post Peyton Drew brees Saints,
[1:20:20] Speaker 3: but it still doesn't get you anywhere, and it leads
[1:20:23] Speaker 3: actually to a lot more animosity where it's like what
[1:20:25] Speaker 3: are we doing? Like how often are we celebrating he's
[1:20:28] Speaker 3: never had a losing season. Yes, we know he's really
[1:20:30] Speaker 3: good coach. But like, if the organization we don't pick
[1:20:34] Speaker 3: or go after young quarterbacks, why not just draft a
[1:20:36] Speaker 3: quarterback every year in the top couple of rounds just
[1:20:39] Speaker 3: until you figure it out. When you're in this position,
[1:20:41] Speaker 3: you got to take some swings. So let's just resign
[1:20:44] Speaker 3: Mason Rudolph and trade for this, Like this is not
[1:20:46] Speaker 3: gonna work. Guys.
[1:20:47] Speaker 1: Well, just the fact they keep going back to Mason
[1:20:51] Speaker 1: Rudolph's I mean, they just they It tells you they're
[1:20:55] Speaker 1: just uncomfortable with risk offensively.
[1:20:57] Speaker 3: Well, they tried last year, right, which was a little
[1:20:59] Speaker 3: out of there. They're like, we'll get these two guys
[1:21:02] Speaker 3: and it ended and there you could tell it that
[1:21:04] Speaker 3: wasn't really our thing, you know, Russell big personality, fields,
[1:21:08] Speaker 3: got some limitations, but ideally probably not a starter for us.
[1:21:12] Speaker 3: They didn't like that, and I give them credit for
[1:21:14] Speaker 3: trying what they tried. They punted on Canny Pickett and
[1:21:17] Speaker 3: clearly they're like, we're not doing that thing again. Too
[1:21:19] Speaker 3: many people talking about there but now they're waiting on
[1:21:22] Speaker 3: Aaron Rodgers. I don't know, just they're in just a
[1:21:24] Speaker 3: weird space for a franchise that. I mean, what would
[1:21:27] Speaker 3: you say, in your lifetime one of the better run
[1:21:29] Speaker 3: American sports franchises in America?
[1:21:33] Speaker 1: I thought until maybe twelve years ago, I thought you
[1:21:37] Speaker 1: could argue they were the best overall franchise most of
[1:21:40] Speaker 1: my life. I mean I started watching football nineteen seventy two,
[1:21:46] Speaker 1: but from like nineteen seventy four, seventy five until maybe
[1:21:49] Speaker 1: ten to twelve years ago, I thought they were in
[1:21:51] Speaker 1: the you know, they were in the argument with the Patriots,
[1:21:55] Speaker 1: and Patriots had down years, but the Brady years, but
[1:21:57] Speaker 1: I mean, they were just like well run. And now
[1:22:00] Speaker 1: there's it's I always find this this ish is fascinating
[1:22:05] Speaker 1: to me, old successful people that can't age well and
[1:22:09] Speaker 1: I it's it's just really really weird to me. When
[1:22:12] Speaker 1: you like, when you see Bobby Knight, I'm not going
[1:22:14] Speaker 1: to do the one and done?
[1:22:16] Speaker 2: Why not?
[1:22:17] Speaker 1: Don't want to win games? Like I don't get it?
[1:22:19] Speaker 1: Or Belichick Matt Patrici is the offensive coordinator. Bill, You're
[1:22:23] Speaker 1: smarter than that.
[1:22:24] Speaker 2: What are you doing?
[1:22:24] Speaker 1: Like, it's fascinating to me that all the people in
[1:22:28] Speaker 1: the building in Pittsburgh and they can't get the offensive
[1:22:32] Speaker 1: line right, they can't get quarterback right, and they're not
[1:22:36] Speaker 1: I mean Kenny Pickett, I guess was a swing. But
[1:22:39] Speaker 1: it's like I just it's not that hard. I think
[1:22:42] Speaker 1: sometimes I underestimate the gap between like Sean McVeigh I
[1:22:48] Speaker 1: did this the other day.
[1:22:50] Speaker 2: The Steelers are the opposite of the Rams.
[1:22:53] Speaker 1: The Rams spend money on a young, progressive offensive coach.
[1:22:59] Speaker 1: Steeler's an oldie asive coach. One team has made the
[1:23:02] Speaker 1: playoffs like like seven of the last eight years. The
[1:23:07] Speaker 1: Steelers haven't won a playoff game in like eight years
[1:23:10] Speaker 1: or something.
[1:23:12] Speaker 2: You know.
[1:23:12] Speaker 1: One team spends no money on defense. One leads the
[1:23:15] Speaker 1: league in spending on defense. One never takes a chance
[1:23:21] Speaker 1: on character guys, like they just they don't put them
[1:23:23] Speaker 1: on their draft board. One makes a living off. That's
[1:23:26] Speaker 1: it's it's it's almost if I can't quite figure the
[1:23:30] Speaker 1: Steelers out. They want character, but nobody's had more divas
[1:23:33] Speaker 1: and high maintenance offensive guys than the Steelers. They want
[1:23:38] Speaker 1: to win, but then they don't take care of the
[1:23:41] Speaker 1: number one position, like I just I find them. I
[1:23:44] Speaker 1: feel like there's a messaging issue in the building. And
[1:23:48] Speaker 1: like Omar Kahn, my sources don't consider him like a
[1:23:52] Speaker 1: great general manager.
[1:23:54] Speaker 3: Yeah, I know that. What was his name, Colbert, the
[1:23:57] Speaker 3: former GM. I think one really really highly thought of
[1:24:00] Speaker 3: in the NFL circles by personnel people. I think people
[1:24:03] Speaker 3: would say that they've dropped off, you know, in terms
[1:24:05] Speaker 3: of that just the group Cohn and his group relative
[1:24:08] Speaker 3: to Colbert, I would say. The other thing is, you know,
[1:24:12] Speaker 3: once the Ravens moved to Baltimore and Aussie and DaCosta
[1:24:16] Speaker 3: was with them the whole time they had you know,
[1:24:19] Speaker 3: during the two thousand now they had really good teams,
[1:24:21] Speaker 3: but they basically played the Steelers every year. They became
[1:24:23] Speaker 3: their rival, and they copied the way they did things
[1:24:26] Speaker 3: like toughness, hardcore guys, playing any environment, toughest team in
[1:24:30] Speaker 3: the league. And now over the last decade plus, it's
[1:24:33] Speaker 3: like we do it better than you. So we had
[1:24:36] Speaker 3: a front row seat. It's like you're our main competition
[1:24:39] Speaker 3: in business. We know exactly how you do things. Yet
[1:24:42] Speaker 3: we're a little more open minded and progressive to the
[1:24:44] Speaker 3: way that we scout coach. However, and we've now lacked
[1:24:48] Speaker 3: you because that's what it feels like. The Ravens are
[1:24:50] Speaker 3: running circles around them, and hell, the Ravens can't even
[1:24:54] Speaker 3: get over the hump in the playoffs. But they're in
[1:24:56] Speaker 3: a different universe than the Steelers. And then the Bengals. Listen,
[1:25:00] Speaker 3: a lot of people make fun of them, but they've
[1:25:02] Speaker 3: hit on some players over the years, and getting Joe
[1:25:04] Speaker 3: Burrow changed that franchise. Regardless how weird and rinky dink
[1:25:07] Speaker 3: it can feel sometimes, but I do think the Ravens
[1:25:11] Speaker 3: kind of getting their blueprint and then modernizing it like
[1:25:15] Speaker 3: the Internet version, has really hurt if the Ravens were
[1:25:19] Speaker 3: a little bit more of just a regular run of
[1:25:21] Speaker 3: the mill, you know, ten to eleven win team, but
[1:25:23] Speaker 3: they just have become a dominant NFL team, especially with Lamar.
[1:25:28] Speaker 3: It has made the Steelers look a lot worse. I mean, look,
[1:25:31] Speaker 3: anyone could have had Derrick Henry right. They got him
[1:25:34] Speaker 3: eight million dollars, boom, he goes there, he runs for whatever,
[1:25:37] Speaker 3: almost two thousand yards and they give him an extension.
[1:25:39] Speaker 3: It's like no brainer. It's like, shouldn't the Steelers have
[1:25:42] Speaker 3: been all over a guy like that? I mean, they
[1:25:43] Speaker 3: were kicking Najie Harris to the curb, and I just
[1:25:46] Speaker 3: think that the Steelers are just kind of in this
[1:25:48] Speaker 3: weird spot. They're too well run and they, you know,
[1:25:51] Speaker 3: Mike tom was too high level of a guy. They're
[1:25:52] Speaker 3: never gonna suck like, They're never gonna have a season
[1:25:55] Speaker 3: where it's like, oh, this is the year they drafted
[1:25:56] Speaker 3: six This is not gonna happen. But draft I think
[1:26:00] Speaker 3: sixteenth to twentieth every year is not a great place
[1:26:03] Speaker 3: to be either, because they're doing it basically every year
[1:26:06] Speaker 3: for what a decade plus. They haven't won a playoff
[1:26:08] Speaker 3: game since they beat Kansas City in the second round.
[1:26:13] Speaker 3: I think that was Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and levey On
[1:26:16] Speaker 3: Bell where their star offensive players.
[1:26:20] Speaker 1: Yeah, well, last sixteen years, Ravens, including playoffs, have won
[1:26:24] Speaker 1: the most games in that division, and that was about
[1:26:26] Speaker 1: I think Steve Bushatti bought the franchise twenty plus years ago,
[1:26:31] Speaker 1: but it took him a few years to get it right.
[1:26:33] Speaker 1: And to your point, they think they copied the Steelers
[1:26:36] Speaker 1: model a little bit. I mean, in that cold weather
[1:26:38] Speaker 1: part of the country, there are certain absolutes, like you
[1:26:41] Speaker 1: have to be able to run the football, you have
[1:26:43] Speaker 1: to play really good defense, you better have good offensive lines.
[1:26:46] Speaker 1: You're not going to be throwing the ball down the field.
[1:26:48] Speaker 1: In fact, I could argue before Za Flowers, I just
[1:26:50] Speaker 1: I didn't think Baltimore drafted wide receivers particularly well. They
[1:26:53] Speaker 1: drafted everything else exceptionally well. The Steelers draft wide receivers
[1:26:57] Speaker 1: exceptionally well, but they've had a lot of misses on
[1:26:59] Speaker 1: the offense, intive lining, quarterbacks, and other spaces. So it is, Uh,
[1:27:04] Speaker 1: it is a weird franchise. Okay, this is just a
[1:27:06] Speaker 1: little bit of a little bit of schedule talk, and uh,
[1:27:11] Speaker 1: that's good. Speaking of social lifes, Aaron Rodgers got married.
[1:27:24] Speaker 1: I saw he had a wedding ring on and I
[1:27:27] Speaker 1: was talking about this on FS one today. In the
[1:27:30] Speaker 1: last year, I've had a couple of buddies who are
[1:27:32] Speaker 1: gms in the league, and one of the lines I've
[1:27:38] Speaker 1: I've used in my business for a long time is
[1:27:42] Speaker 1: weird doesn't work. You can be you can have an ego,
[1:27:47] Speaker 1: you can even be a little temperamental, you can make mistakes,
[1:27:52] Speaker 1: but if you're weird, eventually companies will move on from you.
[1:27:56] Speaker 1: And I had a general manager tell me I was
[1:27:59] Speaker 1: out them about six months ago, and he said, Aaron
[1:28:02] Speaker 1: just got weird, and he said, and there's a story
[1:28:05] Speaker 1: that McVeigh passed on him, Kevin O'Connell passed on him.
[1:28:07] Speaker 1: He was the Steeters third choice. And it's I was
[1:28:10] Speaker 1: writing down a list today of the quarterbacks I would
[1:28:13] Speaker 1: take over Aaron in the league, and there were sixteen
[1:28:15] Speaker 1: of them, including like bo Nicks. I'm not paying Bnicks anything.
[1:28:18] Speaker 1: He's more coachable, he's more athletic, he throws a fine ball.
[1:28:21] Speaker 1: I think Aaron's just gotten to a point where I
[1:28:24] Speaker 1: think Pittsburgh's about the only offer he had, and reportedly,
[1:28:28] Speaker 1: according to Schefter, he was their third choice.
[1:28:30] Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I do think it's pretty bizarre that
[1:28:32] Speaker 3: he signs this contract. He's supported in the wedding ring.
[1:28:36] Speaker 3: I mean, this is these quarterbacks. You know who they're
[1:28:39] Speaker 3: married to is kind. I mean they're pretty big stars, right,
[1:28:42] Speaker 3: They're like actors, NBA stars. Josh Allen gets married. We
[1:28:46] Speaker 3: all know it's not all these guys even married famous
[1:28:48] Speaker 3: people like Josh Allen or Tom Brady. They're married to
[1:28:51] Speaker 3: other famous people. Patrick mahomes married to his high school sweetheart.
[1:28:54] Speaker 3: Peyton Manning is married to a girl I think he
[1:28:56] Speaker 3: dated in college. Who cares. This whole thing of like
[1:28:58] Speaker 3: I got things going on in my personal life, which
[1:29:01] Speaker 3: I assumed it was negative stuff. Turns out maybe he
[1:29:03] Speaker 3: was just getting married and wanted to push this off.
[1:29:05] Speaker 3: It's just kind of the I've always been pro Aaron
[1:29:09] Speaker 3: Rodgers as a player because I thought he was incredible,
[1:29:12] Speaker 3: you know. I thought, in the peak of his powers,
[1:29:14] Speaker 3: he's one of the best athletes in terms of their
[1:29:16] Speaker 3: sport I've ever seen in my entire life, which is
[1:29:18] Speaker 3: weird because when you look at the totality of his career,
[1:29:21] Speaker 3: it almost feels underwhelming for how good he was. You know,
[1:29:24] Speaker 3: I think he let down in the playoffs. I mean
[1:29:26] Speaker 3: they lost a couple of years ago to at Home
[1:29:28] Speaker 3: to Jimmy Garoppolo in the forty nine ers offense. I
[1:29:31] Speaker 3: think they scored thirteen points. That can't happen. But I
[1:29:34] Speaker 3: think this whole because we knew he was going to
[1:29:36] Speaker 3: go to Pittsburgh, it was just when he was going
[1:29:38] Speaker 3: to sign. But that picture of him with the wedding
[1:29:40] Speaker 3: ring is just a little bizarre. I mean, there's really
[1:29:43] Speaker 3: no way around it, right, And you've been on this
[1:29:46] Speaker 3: forever listen as someone that got I got married for
[1:29:48] Speaker 3: the first time at forty years old. Now there is
[1:29:51] Speaker 3: a and a lot of my friends and my brother
[1:29:54] Speaker 3: got married in their late twenties, early thirties. Your life
[1:29:56] Speaker 3: is dramatically different, you know, I mean basically, then you
[1:30:00] Speaker 3: have kids. It is a completely different lifestyle. And he's
[1:30:04] Speaker 3: just kind of been in this weird spot. Obviously. Also
[1:30:08] Speaker 3: as a player, he's no longer the saint. His mobility's gone,
[1:30:12] Speaker 3: think about it. Not a dominant player anymore.
[1:30:15] Speaker 1: You can argue Tom Brady had a twenty year prime,
[1:30:21] Speaker 1: a twenty year prime now even though he was really
[1:30:24] Speaker 1: good past forty I don't really consider it. Maybe forty
[1:30:27] Speaker 1: one and then the prime ended, but he was still
[1:30:29] Speaker 1: through a great I.
[1:30:30] Speaker 3: Can put that first. That first year and a half
[1:30:32] Speaker 3: in Tampa. I think he was pretty good, still.
[1:30:35] Speaker 1: Twenty year prime. People forget this. Aaron's last year in
[1:30:38] Speaker 1: Green Bay. They played in they played an average Lions
[1:30:42] Speaker 1: team at home and lost, and it was Aaron. I
[1:30:45] Speaker 1: think it was Aaron's last was his last game as
[1:30:47] Speaker 1: a Packer.
[1:30:48] Speaker 3: And he got outplayed by Golf in that game, thoroughly outplayed.
[1:30:51] Speaker 2: Okay, so Aaron.
[1:30:53] Speaker 1: So that year, if you go back statistically, Aaron was
[1:30:56] Speaker 1: a B plus quarterback. He didn't play his first three
[1:31:00] Speaker 1: years in the league, right, he sat in the bench.
[1:31:03] Speaker 1: His fourth year he started, he went six and ten.
[1:31:06] Speaker 1: I can argue Aaron had less than a ten year prime.
[1:31:11] Speaker 1: I mean, because he hasn't done anything in four years.
[1:31:13] Speaker 1: He didn't do anything the first four years, So I
[1:31:16] Speaker 1: mean Aaron's prime was about half.
[1:31:18] Speaker 3: I'd give him two thousand and nine to about twenty
[1:31:21] Speaker 3: one twenty two. I mean he won the MVP in
[1:31:23] Speaker 3: twenty one, twenty and twenty one. Yeah, about about ten
[1:31:27] Speaker 3: to eleven years max.
[1:31:29] Speaker 2: Think about that.
[1:31:30] Speaker 1: Brady's at twenty and I So if you really look
[1:31:34] Speaker 1: at Peyton, Manning's probably about fourteen usually. Yeah, I mean
[1:31:38] Speaker 1: Mahomes maybe one of those seventeen to eighteen years. Aaron
[1:31:42] Speaker 1: just and I think a lot of it was just Aaron.
[1:31:45] Speaker 1: I don't think he was as committed in the off season.
[1:31:49] Speaker 1: I think he wasn't.
[1:31:51] Speaker 2: You know.
[1:31:52] Speaker 1: I thought he was really good the year he went
[1:31:53] Speaker 1: six and ten, But I didn't think he was I
[1:31:56] Speaker 1: just thought he was talented. He wasn't a winning quarterback.
[1:31:58] Speaker 1: But I think a lot of that is just I've
[1:32:01] Speaker 1: always been one of these people. I'm not impressed by
[1:32:03] Speaker 1: people that get jobs. I'm impressed by people that keep them.
[1:32:06] Speaker 1: Like I think there is a real skill to being
[1:32:09] Speaker 1: Lebron James or Tom Brady or Derek Jeter, and it's
[1:32:13] Speaker 1: a commitment on nutrition, what you eat, sleep, And I
[1:32:17] Speaker 1: think that's a skill. I think discipline is a skill.
[1:32:19] Speaker 1: Maybe people don't. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe mental health professionals
[1:32:23] Speaker 1: would argue that disciplines is you know, it's it's.
[1:32:26] Speaker 3: Not a he says that, not as a moron. From
[1:32:28] Speaker 3: the Navy seals, to our athletes, to our CEOs, what
[1:32:31] Speaker 3: are they one? It's a skill.
[1:32:33] Speaker 2: And I just look at Aaron's crime.
[1:32:38] Speaker 1: It's half of Brady. And you can say what you want,
[1:32:41] Speaker 1: But that last year in Green Bay, he was a
[1:32:43] Speaker 1: b quarterback and he's gone downhill since. I mean, he's
[1:32:46] Speaker 1: just a pocket guy now. And he's not even like
[1:32:48] Speaker 1: an elite pocket guy. He's just a pocket guy.
[1:32:51] Speaker 3: Well, I think when you look at his contemporaries or
[1:32:54] Speaker 3: definitely his peers over his career, because he came in
[1:32:57] Speaker 3: a lot later than Peyton and definitely, you know, definitely
[1:33:01] Speaker 3: Peyton and Tom, he was way more physically gifted than
[1:33:03] Speaker 3: those guys. Those guys couldn't run. Tom and Payton couldn't
[1:33:06] Speaker 3: run at all. I would say Drew Brees definitely wasn't
[1:33:09] Speaker 3: a mobile quarterback, and he just had more skills. I mean,
[1:33:13] Speaker 3: I would say Peyton and Drew Brees are known at
[1:33:15] Speaker 3: best average arms, right, they hung their hat on accuracy.
[1:33:19] Speaker 3: Tom had the best arm of that trio. But those
[1:33:22] Speaker 3: guys worked like they could get cut next year. I
[1:33:24] Speaker 3: mean everyone you ever talked to that were around those guys, Yeah,
[1:33:28] Speaker 3: they were discussed like they were Michael Jordan or Kobe
[1:33:30] Speaker 3: Bryant or Tiger Woods. Their addiction to their craft and
[1:33:33] Speaker 3: how much it meant to them. I do think Aaron
[1:33:36] Speaker 3: really benefited a lot. I mean, Tom Brady goes to
[1:33:39] Speaker 3: the Patriots who sucked him, and Bill turned that thing around.
[1:33:43] Speaker 3: Peyton went to the Colts who had the number one
[1:33:45] Speaker 3: overall pick, and Drew Brees and Sean Payton showed up
[1:33:48] Speaker 3: to the Saints that were known as the Aince. This
[1:33:50] Speaker 3: guy went to the Green Bay Packers, who were a
[1:33:53] Speaker 3: model franchise for fifteen plus years before we got there.
[1:33:57] Speaker 3: And I always think that, like listen him and Devon Day,
[1:34:01] Speaker 3: sometimes you know, you kind of make up your own
[1:34:03] Speaker 3: problems in your head when life's going a little too good,
[1:34:06] Speaker 3: and it felt like those two guys, I mean, they
[1:34:08] Speaker 3: have to look back after the couple bumpy years of going,
[1:34:10] Speaker 3: we actually had it pretty good. You know, it can
[1:34:13] Speaker 3: be a little boring in this town, but we had
[1:34:15] Speaker 3: a lot of success here.
[1:34:16] Speaker 1: For a reason, I'm looking up Aaron Drew Brees's career
[1:34:21] Speaker 1: from the first five years with the Chargers and then
[1:34:23] Speaker 1: you know that fifteen year run or whatever it was
[1:34:25] Speaker 1: with the Saints. If I go back to Drew Brees,
[1:34:28] Speaker 1: a smaller athlete, you can say his first great year
[1:34:32] Speaker 1: was two thousand and four with the Chargers. So let
[1:34:35] Speaker 1: me count these years one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen,
[1:34:41] Speaker 1: fifty sixteen. I would say Breeze had either sixteen or
[1:34:46] Speaker 1: seventeen elite years, I mean, and I think Brady's twenty plus.
[1:34:54] Speaker 1: So and again this isn't bash Aaron. It's just when
[1:34:56] Speaker 1: you go and I've said this, I said this before
[1:34:58] Speaker 1: to you. If Stafford won another Super Bowl, Stafford was
[1:35:02] Speaker 1: better in college. He was better early, he was much
[1:35:05] Speaker 1: better later. If Stafford plays three more years and endor McVeigh,
[1:35:09] Speaker 1: they would be good they have. I mean, it's they've
[1:35:12] Speaker 1: got their shit rolling. If he gets one more Super Bowl,
[1:35:15] Speaker 1: you're gonna look at Matt Stafford, and you're gonna look
[1:35:18] Speaker 1: at Aaron Rodgers and you're gonna have to have a
[1:35:20] Speaker 1: real hard conversation because that means Stafford's playoff record is
[1:35:26] Speaker 1: gonna be significantly better than Aaron Rodgers, which is basically
[1:35:31] Speaker 1: five hundred. People think I'm crazy when I say this,
[1:35:33] Speaker 1: Stafford has more to gain legacy than any player in
[1:35:38] Speaker 1: the league over the next three years.
[1:35:40] Speaker 3: I will say this about Rogers when it came to Stafford,
[1:35:43] Speaker 3: he was one of his biggest proponents over the years.
[1:35:45] Speaker 3: You know, he was middling away in Detroit. He's like,
[1:35:48] Speaker 3: you guys don't realize and obviously the football people held
[1:35:51] Speaker 3: him in high regard. Kind of got screwed that he
[1:35:53] Speaker 3: got drafted to this franchise that I mean, they're gonna
[1:35:57] Speaker 3: be kids right now in Detroit that have no clue
[1:35:59] Speaker 3: how big would joke that franchise used to be. I
[1:36:02] Speaker 3: will say I think Rogers kind of morphed a little
[1:36:05] Speaker 3: more into like an NBA player, right, or like receivers
[1:36:09] Speaker 3: off then act than these quarterbacks. I mean even Tom
[1:36:12] Speaker 3: for a long period of time just kind of shut
[1:36:13] Speaker 3: his mouth, kept his head down dealing with Bill. I mean, Peyton,
[1:36:17] Speaker 3: would he have ever gone to Denver if they hadn't
[1:36:19] Speaker 3: cut him in India and he had no other neck injury,
[1:36:20] Speaker 3: he just would have played it out forever in Indianapolis.
[1:36:23] Speaker 3: So yeah, I just think Aaron, and part of it
[1:36:26] Speaker 3: might be the the nature of that franchise. You know,
[1:36:30] Speaker 3: You've talked about this a lot of people have over
[1:36:32] Speaker 3: the years. There's no owner to really get involved and
[1:36:34] Speaker 3: kind of calm everyone down, even just the basic of
[1:36:37] Speaker 3: like hey, you want to take my jet with your
[1:36:39] Speaker 3: new wife or your buddies to wherever you want, just
[1:36:42] Speaker 3: the you know, the Eddie de Barbelow, Jerry Jones, the
[1:36:46] Speaker 3: robber craft like kind of taking care of you. There's
[1:36:48] Speaker 3: no that guy doesn't really exist. So I honestly think
[1:36:52] Speaker 3: that those guys, and if I was a Packer fan,
[1:36:55] Speaker 3: We'll see how the Jordan love stuff plays out. But
[1:36:58] Speaker 3: it's like, God, why do these guys make such a
[1:37:00] Speaker 3: big stink. We could have kept it rolling for a
[1:37:02] Speaker 3: couple of years. We have a really good coach. It's like,
[1:37:04] Speaker 3: remember when he was having at odds with Gudakins. It's like,
[1:37:07] Speaker 3: what are you actually mad about with him? Like, what
[1:37:10] Speaker 3: did he do? You know, what are we talking about?
[1:37:12] Speaker 3: And let's face it, his ego was really really hurt
[1:37:16] Speaker 3: with the Jordan Love draft pick Well, looking back and
[1:37:18] Speaker 3: there have been a lot of articles, so was Tom
[1:37:20] Speaker 3: and what did Tom do? Went out and said I'm
[1:37:22] Speaker 3: going to dominate and win Super Bowls and you're gonna
[1:37:24] Speaker 3: have to get rid of that guy, not me. Aaron
[1:37:26] Speaker 3: kind of took the different tactic like screw you guys,
[1:37:28] Speaker 3: get rid of me, and obviously age let's face it,
[1:37:31] Speaker 3: in the history of sports, is An Aaron's career parallel
[1:37:35] Speaker 3: the most guys we've ever watched. Once you get to
[1:37:37] Speaker 3: your late thirties, you had an injury, popped achilles, and
[1:37:40] Speaker 3: you're just never quite the same. And then usually you
[1:37:43] Speaker 3: go to these weird franchises or in his you know,
[1:37:47] Speaker 3: this scenario kind of a desperate one. I think they
[1:37:50] Speaker 3: have a lot of guys, from Cam Hayward to TJ.
[1:37:53] Speaker 3: Tamika that are like serious cats. This has got to
[1:37:56] Speaker 3: be like, wait, we had to wait for you. It's
[1:37:57] Speaker 3: not like you're the greatest thing since sliced bread.
[1:38:00] Speaker 1: Here, buddy, yeah, yeah, I mean, listen, I'm not this.
[1:38:04] Speaker 1: I think this year he'll win the int A nine games,
[1:38:06] Speaker 1: he'll have twenty three touchdowns, ten picks. He'll be fine,
[1:38:09] Speaker 1: and as a game or two'll But it is interesting
[1:38:12] Speaker 1: when you look back, I think Aaron views himself has
[1:38:14] Speaker 1: picked on or marginalized by the media. And when you
[1:38:17] Speaker 1: just start looking at Peyton's career and Ben's career, and
[1:38:20] Speaker 1: Breeze's career, and Brady's career, and Elway and Marino, you
[1:38:25] Speaker 1: just start looking at some of these careers, Aaron's prime
[1:38:28] Speaker 1: was just not as long, and some of that's he
[1:38:31] Speaker 1: sat behind far. But I thought he aged really quickly,
[1:38:35] Speaker 1: and you can speculate why he did, but he did
