[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume.
[0:10] Speaker 2: Looking at this cowboy thing we were talking about on
[0:14] Speaker 2: the show. So John Middlkoff is going to be on
[0:17] Speaker 2: FS one all week. And one of the rants I
[0:22] Speaker 2: did today was about Mike McCarthy. I think the Cowboys
[0:27] Speaker 2: are going to shit the bed week one. I think
[0:29] Speaker 2: it's going to be a disastrous season. I don't like
[0:31] Speaker 2: their defensive personnel. They've got two or three things that
[0:34] Speaker 2: get in the way of winning. One, their division's gotten better. Two,
[0:38] Speaker 2: their offensive line is really in flux, and they don't
[0:42] Speaker 2: have elite running backs to begin with, so it's going
[0:45] Speaker 2: to be very Dak Prescott dependent, which is not good.
[0:49] Speaker 2: I mean, he's not the kind of quarterback that it
[0:51] Speaker 2: can carry a franchise. He needs help. No run game,
[0:55] Speaker 2: O line work in progress. And the defense was terrible
[0:58] Speaker 2: last year. But if you go back and look at
[1:01] Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy, and this happens all the time. It's a
[1:04] Speaker 2: big brand, and you run people out of town. I mean,
[1:07] Speaker 2: the Lakers have run through a lot of coaches, and
[1:11] Speaker 2: a lot of those coaches have gotten good gigs. But
[1:14] Speaker 2: Mike McCarthy went twelve and five, twelve and five, twelve
[1:16] Speaker 2: and five, and then Dak got hurt. He won more
[1:19] Speaker 2: games that he lost. With Cooper Rush, they had the
[1:21] Speaker 2: second best offense in the league behind Josh Allen and
[1:23] Speaker 2: the Bills in his tenure in Dallas. And I think
[1:28] Speaker 2: if if the Cowboys are awful, and I think they
[1:31] Speaker 2: will be this year, I think Mike McCarthy is going
[1:34] Speaker 2: to go from the Packers to the Cowboys. I think
[1:36] Speaker 2: he's going to get another job in an offensive league?
[1:38] Speaker 2: Am I not saying that?
[1:40] Speaker 3: Well? Why do you think he wasn't a bigger candidate
[1:43] Speaker 3: this offseason? Because I thought, you know, those three straight
[1:45] Speaker 3: years of twelve wins, what he did last year, I
[1:48] Speaker 3: mean most an average to below average coach last year
[1:51] Speaker 3: with Dak being injured, they end up winning two or
[1:53] Speaker 3: three games, but they went seven and ten, and Cooper
[1:55] Speaker 3: Rush was good. There's a branding issue with Mike, right,
[1:59] Speaker 3: kind of bigger, kind of goofy guy. When he got
[2:02] Speaker 3: fired from the Packers, it felt like his relationship with
[2:04] Speaker 3: Aaron had deteriorated. Aaron's kind of pivoted and is like
[2:08] Speaker 3: a supporter of him. Now, sometimes a year away with
[2:12] Speaker 3: coaches will do him well. You could argue, I mean,
[2:16] Speaker 3: the Giants are gonna match up really well against the Cowboys,
[2:18] Speaker 3: right because they have a really good defensive line and
[2:21] Speaker 3: at that offensive.
[2:21] Speaker 2: Well, they have a dominant defense. They have second best
[2:23] Speaker 2: d lines arguably.
[2:24] Speaker 3: In the su Yeah, I mean it could. It's really
[2:27] Speaker 3: I thought it was a little premature a couple of
[2:29] Speaker 3: years ago, but the Al Davis comps, I mean, the
[2:31] Speaker 3: Al Davis thing, it got ugly because he started hiring
[2:34] Speaker 3: coaches that had no business being the head coach. And
[2:36] Speaker 3: that that's what Brian Schottenneimer feels like right now and
[2:40] Speaker 3: what's going on there. I mean, if if they're an
[2:42] Speaker 3: injury or two away from being a disaster, and unlike
[2:45] Speaker 3: Mike McCarthy that knows what he's doing, who's to say
[2:48] Speaker 3: that they couldn't just unwrap? I mean, what if Dak
[2:50] Speaker 3: rolled an ankle all of a sudden, You're like, oh
[2:52] Speaker 3: my god, here we go, and Brian's acting tough. Here's
[2:56] Speaker 3: the other thing the play like with Al Davis, the
[2:58] Speaker 3: players know that Jerry's in charge, so it was like,
[3:01] Speaker 3: why am I gonna Why am I gonna listen to Brian?
[3:03] Speaker 3: And that Mike Lombardi talked about this forever. Once everyone realized,
[3:06] Speaker 3: like the coach doesn't matter here. Just go to Al,
[3:09] Speaker 3: you know, like you do that. You know how he's
[3:11] Speaker 3: the boss. You know, mcveigh's the boss or Kyle's the boss.
[3:14] Speaker 3: Obviously they don't sign the checks, but the owners to
[3:17] Speaker 3: deal with. Even Jimmy Haslam was like Miles Garrett was like,
[3:20] Speaker 3: I want to trade. He's like, deal with the GM.
[3:22] Speaker 3: Talk to him. He's in charge of football. That is
[3:24] Speaker 3: not the way it works with the Cowboys. And when
[3:26] Speaker 3: you get one thing, Mike had a Peltz on the
[3:28] Speaker 3: wall right, had coached Aaron Rodgers, had won a Super Bowl.
[3:31] Speaker 3: He're like Brian Shot and Eyber Guy. Some of these
[3:33] Speaker 3: young coaches had never heard of his dad. So it's
[3:36] Speaker 3: not like he's this famous coach's dad. I mean he
[3:38] Speaker 3: is to me and you. But if you're twenty two
[3:40] Speaker 3: years old, you don't remember Marty Schottenheimer coaching the Browns, right,
[3:44] Speaker 3: or coaching the Chargers, and so some of his credibility
[3:47] Speaker 3: with that name doesn't resonate like it does for an
[3:51] Speaker 3: older person or even Jerry who I've heard Jerry say
[3:53] Speaker 3: part of the reason he loved I think he thought,
[3:56] Speaker 3: maybe I'm getting a Kyle Shanahan or a McVeigh, you know,
[3:59] Speaker 3: from a football family. I think that's what he's thinking.
[4:01] Speaker 3: It's like, Jerry, Yeah, it ain't quite the same.
[4:05] Speaker 2: No, I think I was talking to Matt Mosley on
[4:07] Speaker 2: one of my pods and he said, like, Jerry doesn't
[4:10] Speaker 2: respect coaches, and there's a very clear line. He hires
[4:13] Speaker 2: coaches who will be indebted to him. I like Jason Garrett,
[4:17] Speaker 2: didn't think he was great, thought he was good. Jason
[4:19] Speaker 2: Garrett would not have gotten another head coaching job. Mike
[4:22] Speaker 2: McCarthy was on the beach. Chan Jan Gaily was not
[4:25] Speaker 2: a hot prospect. Nobody was even offering a top oc
[4:29] Speaker 2: job to Brian Schottenheimer. The coaches Jerry doesn't respect the
[4:33] Speaker 2: coaching position, which is really weird considering Jerry usually has
[4:40] Speaker 2: a pretty good sense of valuations of properties. He's a
[4:46] Speaker 2: very very good businessman, and I think Jerry overvalues his
[4:51] Speaker 2: football IQ and feels like, by and large, we could
[4:57] Speaker 2: win twelve games with Mike McCarthy. I can win, I
[5:02] Speaker 2: can win ten to eleven games if Dak comes back healthy.
[5:06] Speaker 2: It's just remarkable to me that in the most important
[5:12] Speaker 2: sport for coaching, football, where the league has gotten much
[5:16] Speaker 2: more sophisticated and intelligent with its offensive coaching. Jerry's going
[5:21] Speaker 2: the other way, which is coaches don't matter. It's really
[5:25] Speaker 2: remarkable to me everybody. Now, Maybe it's this he looks
[5:30] Speaker 2: at Nick Siriani and thinks, I they won a super
[5:33] Speaker 2: Bowl with Nick Siriani. Maybe he looks in his own
[5:36] Speaker 2: division and says that, I mean, I mean, Sarahanni to
[5:39] Speaker 2: me is a bit of an outlier where I understand
[5:41] Speaker 2: Dan Campbell, who I wasn't initially a fan of. I
[5:46] Speaker 2: don't really get Sarianni still, but it works.
[5:50] Speaker 3: He's got Howie Roseman. I mean, I mean, he's got
[5:54] Speaker 3: a guy that's gonna be probably a first bout All
[5:56] Speaker 3: Famer one day as a general manager. I think Jerry
[5:59] Speaker 3: is just opportunity. Sean Payton worked for him, Dan Campbell
[6:02] Speaker 3: played for him. You could argue a couple of years
[6:05] Speaker 3: ago Dan Quinn, who was this rising star. If you're
[6:07] Speaker 3: gonna get rid of Mike McCarthy, just fire him then
[6:10] Speaker 3: and hire Dan Quinn. I think a mistake he made
[6:13] Speaker 3: is two years ago when Mike lost to the Packers
[6:15] Speaker 3: and everyone freaked out and he got his ass kicked.
[6:17] Speaker 3: He'd let him coach on that year where his contract
[6:21] Speaker 3: ran out. He probably should have just given Mike like
[6:23] Speaker 3: a three year contract extension after that year. Wouldn't have
[6:25] Speaker 3: had to be crazy money, but Jerry prideful wasn't gonna
[6:28] Speaker 3: do that after they lost, and now he's in a
[6:30] Speaker 3: position where Brian Shottenneimers is head coach. I'm not as
[6:34] Speaker 3: down on the on the Cowboys roster of being some
[6:37] Speaker 3: joke like two to three win team, but the way
[6:40] Speaker 3: they're built, I mean they are an injury to a way,
[6:42] Speaker 3: and if the coach is over his head, this is
[6:44] Speaker 3: a sport where it's like it can get ugly, and
[6:46] Speaker 3: it can get ugly fast. And if Dak were to
[6:49] Speaker 3: get injured, and he has a history, now, who's to
[6:51] Speaker 3: say they can't end up like a four win team
[6:54] Speaker 3: and be last place in that division. If the Giants
[6:57] Speaker 3: just the quarterback plays stabilized a little bit and their
[6:59] Speaker 3: defensive solid, we know, Washington, the Eagles are good.
[7:02] Speaker 2: Well, I think you nailed it. I think the New
[7:04] Speaker 2: York Giants are Say what you want about the Giants.
[7:08] Speaker 2: That defensive line. Now again, Philadelphia's O line is good
[7:13] Speaker 2: enough to keep it at bay. I think the Giants
[7:15] Speaker 2: D line could overwhelm the Cowboys. I think Abdul Carter
[7:20] Speaker 2: Foboto on the other side, Dexter Lawrence. I'm trying to
[7:23] Speaker 2: think of defensive lines I like more than the New
[7:25] Speaker 2: York Giants. There's not a lot of them. There are
[7:27] Speaker 2: some individual players that are great. I think the Rams
[7:31] Speaker 2: defensive line is really really good in getting better. Philadelphia is, obviously,
[7:37] Speaker 2: But you know, there's some teams in this league, and
[7:40] Speaker 2: the Giants are one of those teams. I actually think
[7:43] Speaker 2: they're a quarterback away. I think if you gave them
[7:45] Speaker 2: the right quarterback, you'd look up in the Giants. They
[7:47] Speaker 2: wouldn't be flashy. If Malik Neighbors could stay healthy, they
[7:51] Speaker 2: could actually win eleven games. That's why you know Dable.
[7:55] Speaker 2: I think it works a little bit with his franchise
[7:58] Speaker 2: because he is good at taking average B quarterbacks and
[8:02] Speaker 2: making them a half great higher. But I don't know.
[8:06] Speaker 2: I just i history repeats itself, and I think we're
[8:11] Speaker 2: going into a really dark cowboy stage. I just heard
[8:15] Speaker 2: a story yesterday from a very good network source that
[8:19] Speaker 2: there is a lot of momentum to have like a
[8:21] Speaker 2: twenty four or twenty eighteen playoff, and my loyalty has
[8:26] Speaker 2: always been to more big games, and you just can't
[8:30] Speaker 2: get me worked up. I Auburn Alabama. It's great, but
[8:34] Speaker 2: it's regional and the highest rated game last year. I
[8:39] Speaker 2: think it was Texas Georgia. That's not a rivalry. It
[8:42] Speaker 2: wasn't Texas Oklahoma. So I don't. I'm not when I
[8:45] Speaker 2: heard everybody say, well, you're going to kill the rivalries. Listen,
[8:49] Speaker 2: if you're a Michigan fan in Ohio State, did that
[8:51] Speaker 2: game feel smaller last year to you? When Michigan upstate
[8:54] Speaker 2: Ohio State? It didn't feel smaller to me, you know. So,
[8:58] Speaker 2: I mean the reality is when the Ms play the Niners,
[9:02] Speaker 2: it's intense. They could play three times a year. Years ago,
[9:06] Speaker 2: when the Steelers and Ravens and Ray Lewis was around
[9:08] Speaker 2: and so was Big Ben. They play one year three times.
[9:12] Speaker 2: The third game felt bigger than the first two because
[9:15] Speaker 2: it was a playoff game. So there's just certain things
[9:19] Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five. I can't get worked up over
[9:23] Speaker 2: somebody having pot in their car, same sex marriage, NCAA
[9:32] Speaker 2: coming down on payments to players, or any kind of scandal.
[9:36] Speaker 2: Like we've just graduated to just understanding the world we
[9:41] Speaker 2: live in I said it today. Unless you're like a
[9:43] Speaker 2: cop from Reno nine to one to one, you got
[9:46] Speaker 2: a roach in your car. Nobody cares. That mattered in
[9:49] Speaker 2: the seventies, and I just if you can buy high
[9:52] Speaker 2: school players. I don't give two shits about somebody with
[9:55] Speaker 2: an iPhone in the crowd. I don't care if you
[9:57] Speaker 2: have forty of them. I don't care.
[9:59] Speaker 3: I do. I think the twenty four twenty eight team
[10:02] Speaker 3: college football playoff, that's where I might get a little
[10:05] Speaker 3: worked up. You know, we saw the twelve team that
[10:07] Speaker 3: first round was a blowout. You know, you know there
[10:10] Speaker 3: have been arguments about sixteen twenty four again more. I
[10:13] Speaker 3: love football as much as the next guy, but that
[10:16] Speaker 3: does that feel a little extreme, And we get a
[10:18] Speaker 3: lot of average to below average teams in the dance
[10:21] Speaker 3: in that situation, it's been your argument. So I think
[10:24] Speaker 3: for March Madness forever, we always scream over first in
[10:27] Speaker 3: last out or whatever. Those teams never matter, right, who
[10:29] Speaker 3: are your one and two seeds? They usually determine the tournament.
[10:32] Speaker 2: So I think you'd have to make it half the
[10:35] Speaker 2: size of March Madness because football is a sport of attrition.
[10:39] Speaker 2: So the little guy. It has no chance in a
[10:42] Speaker 2: twenty eight team tournament to ever win like a third
[10:44] Speaker 2: straight game against a bigger, deeper roster, I think. But
[10:48] Speaker 2: I think I've said I think the perfect number is
[10:52] Speaker 2: about sixteen. I wouldn't be bothered by twenty. I think
[10:55] Speaker 2: if you get to twenty eight, you'd have to give
[10:58] Speaker 2: the top like four seeds. You know, I don't want
[11:01] Speaker 2: I don't want Georgia playing Liberty. I'm just not interested
[11:04] Speaker 2: in that at all.
[11:04] Speaker 4: No.
[11:05] Speaker 2: I mean, Notre Dame played Indiana and that was kind
[11:08] Speaker 2: of embarrassing for the Hoosiers.
[11:09] Speaker 3: I thought it was very I mean, Boise State, Penn
[11:12] Speaker 3: State had a guy drafted in the top ten at
[11:15] Speaker 3: running back and he had no chance. You know why
[11:18] Speaker 3: because the offensive lineman had no chance to block the
[11:20] Speaker 3: Penn State guys. And that's always going to be the
[11:22] Speaker 3: big problem you get a twenty eighteen playoff. But here's
[11:26] Speaker 3: the other thing. It's like, it's one thing at the
[11:29] Speaker 3: fourth or fifteen from the Big ten and the SEC
[11:32] Speaker 3: get in. But when you're taking the third and fourth
[11:34] Speaker 3: team from the Big twelve and the ACC, that's when
[11:37] Speaker 3: it could get really ugly. And that's we don't need
[11:40] Speaker 3: to see those teams play.
[11:41] Speaker 4: Now.
[11:42] Speaker 3: I get it's all about television ratings and football. I
[11:45] Speaker 3: was thinking today watching Sunday Night Football with Kayleb Williams,
[11:48] Speaker 3: what do you think the first thirty minutes of that
[11:50] Speaker 3: football game did? I mean, it just had to blow
[11:52] Speaker 3: everything out of the water on Sunday Night on Fox. Right,
[11:55] Speaker 3: So the advantage I never argue against, like more of
[11:59] Speaker 3: these games. Completely understand or argue against the people that
[12:03] Speaker 3: want more football in terms of working at the networks
[12:06] Speaker 3: who are part of the revenue generation, because it's only
[12:09] Speaker 3: going to bring in more eyeballs. It's like, listen, I
[12:11] Speaker 3: hate the double header on Monday Night. I think it's
[12:14] Speaker 3: I think a huge part of playing Monday night football
[12:17] Speaker 3: or Sunday night football is getting the solo game. But
[12:20] Speaker 3: their argument is, you put the double header. It accumulates
[12:23] Speaker 3: millions upon millions of more people watching football, and that's
[12:27] Speaker 3: the business Roger an, ESPN or Fox or whoever's in.
[12:31] Speaker 3: But sometimes the product does get worse when I get
[12:34] Speaker 3: a double header on Monday night. I don't know who's
[12:36] Speaker 3: asking for it. Besides, we're just gonna get more people.
[12:39] Speaker 3: We can sell more ads and make more money.
[12:41] Speaker 2: Okay, I want to play a game. I'm going to
[12:44] Speaker 2: go through the Bear schedule because I did this flying
[12:49] Speaker 2: back Boston to LA yesterday and I was surprised at
[12:54] Speaker 2: what I landed at. Okay, I'm going to give you
[12:57] Speaker 2: the game, just your kind of gut instinct winner lose
[13:02] Speaker 2: for the Bears. Minnesota Vikings come to Chicago on September eighth,
[13:08] Speaker 2: Brian Floores against Caleb Williams. Win or a loss. Win, Okay,
[13:13] Speaker 2: you have a win. Bears then go to Detroit in
[13:18] Speaker 2: one of the louder environments against Dan Campbell and two
[13:22] Speaker 2: new coordinators.
[13:24] Speaker 3: Loss.
[13:25] Speaker 2: Okay, they get a host of Dallas Cowboys and Brian
[13:29] Speaker 2: Schottenneimer win. I think that's one of my favorite wins.
[13:33] Speaker 2: Then they go on the road to face Pete Carroll, Aston,
[13:37] Speaker 2: Jenny Brockbauers and the Raiders.
[13:39] Speaker 3: That's a tough game, going to be loud, Seattle is
[13:41] Speaker 3: going to have a fast start. Raiders, Oh, peaky out
[13:46] Speaker 3: nevermind win win.
[13:49] Speaker 2: Okay, so you have a win win. I think it's
[13:52] Speaker 2: I think it's a really good game. Bears then go
[13:55] Speaker 2: to the commanders.
[13:58] Speaker 3: Side of the crime last year, right the Hail Mary.
[14:03] Speaker 2: It's a late NBC level game. It's a five to
[14:06] Speaker 2: fifteen start, so that's a big Washington at home late game.
[14:10] Speaker 3: I'll go l.
[14:12] Speaker 2: That's what I did. Okay, Sat scot to Chicago win
[14:16] Speaker 2: out a win. Bears at the Ravens lost. Yes, Bears
[14:23] Speaker 2: at the Bengals.
[14:26] Speaker 3: Win. I think the Bengals could just be not as
[14:28] Speaker 3: good as people think.
[14:32] Speaker 2: Okay, Giants at the Bears.
[14:35] Speaker 3: That's one of those sneaky, tough matchups where I think
[14:37] Speaker 3: most fans would give the Bears a w. I could
[14:39] Speaker 3: see an upset city. They're gonna get upset wherever they
[14:42] Speaker 3: might start feeling themselves, you know.
[14:44] Speaker 2: Okay, you give them an l Okay, this is getting interesting.
[14:47] Speaker 2: Now the Bears are at the Vikings l Okay. Steelers
[14:54] Speaker 2: at the Bears.
[14:56] Speaker 3: Win for the Bears.
[15:00] Speaker 2: Okay, Bears at the Eagles, probably a loss. Yes, Bears
[15:05] Speaker 2: at the Packers.
[15:07] Speaker 3: They've beat them once in like thirty years. Right, Yeah,
[15:10] Speaker 3: I'm going l loss.
[15:12] Speaker 2: Okay, Now get near the end and we'll see what
[15:14] Speaker 2: this means. Brown's at the Bears. That's probably a w.
[15:17] Speaker 1: Yes.
[15:20] Speaker 2: Packers at Chicago.
[15:22] Speaker 3: Now I'll go split here.
[15:24] Speaker 2: Win. Bears at Niners.
[15:30] Speaker 3: Win for the Niners. Lost for the Bears.
[15:33] Speaker 2: And finally Lions at the Bears.
[15:37] Speaker 3: Win.
[15:39] Speaker 2: Okay, what do you think their record is? What have
[15:43] Speaker 2: you predicted nine and eight or ten and seven, nine
[15:47] Speaker 2: and eight? I got to eight and nine, and so
[15:51] Speaker 2: I went through it last night and I said, instead
[15:53] Speaker 2: of predicting, I'm going to go every win. And I
[15:56] Speaker 2: was like, you, they're gonna split with Green Bay. I
[15:58] Speaker 2: think I had them losing on their road. I think
[16:00] Speaker 2: I had him like losing to a Giants. I thought
[16:04] Speaker 2: the Commanders was a loss. So here's my thing is
[16:08] Speaker 2: they're a nine and eight football team and they're out
[16:10] Speaker 2: of the playoffs. And my question to you is, will
[16:13] Speaker 2: you deem that a success at nine and eight? If
[16:18] Speaker 2: Ben Johnson and Caleb cut the sacks in half. He
[16:24] Speaker 2: does make mistakes, he add libs, but they're a nine
[16:27] Speaker 2: and eight football team and Caleb looks like a top
[16:30] Speaker 2: twelve quarterback, maybe number twelve. Do you think it's a
[16:34] Speaker 2: successful season?
[16:36] Speaker 3: One thousand percent. They just fired the entire coaching staff,
[16:40] Speaker 3: They drafted tenth overall, they have been losing for years straight,
[16:44] Speaker 3: nine and eight in that division. Even if you missed
[16:47] Speaker 3: the playoffs, which I would think the last couple of years,
[16:49] Speaker 3: you've had a decent chance in the NFC.
[16:52] Speaker 2: To last weekend determined that that.
[16:54] Speaker 3: Means you play important football the entire season. That is
[16:58] Speaker 3: one million percent a win.
[17:01] Speaker 2: Okay, I don't think people in Chicago agree, but I
[17:04] Speaker 2: agree with you. I got to eight and nine and
[17:07] Speaker 2: I was like, wow, and I feel pretty good about it.
[17:11] Speaker 2: You won the games at home, you should win.
[17:13] Speaker 3: I would say this, eight and nine and nine and
[17:15] Speaker 3: eight might be the difference of a fumble bouncing your
[17:18] Speaker 3: way or bouncing in someone else's arms. So it really
[17:20] Speaker 3: might not be that big of a difference over the
[17:22] Speaker 3: course of a season, but that number there, it feels
[17:26] Speaker 3: pretty big when you say it out loud. I do
[17:28] Speaker 3: think going over five hundred. I also think eight and
[17:31] Speaker 3: nine with the seventeen games, it's kind of the old
[17:34] Speaker 3: seven and nine. Like seven and nine. A lot of
[17:35] Speaker 3: people got fired seven and nine and eight and eight
[17:38] Speaker 3: was actually much more respectable. It's like, oh, the five
[17:41] Speaker 3: hundred they were solid football team, or seven and nine
[17:43] Speaker 3: felt like, ah, they kind of sucked, even though again
[17:45] Speaker 3: it might have been one tip ball that landed in
[17:47] Speaker 3: another guy's hand for of pick six. But I do
[17:51] Speaker 3: think going nine and eight is one hundred percent of success,
[17:55] Speaker 3: where eight and nine I think people would be a
[17:57] Speaker 3: little just because the hype on Ben Johnson. I mean,
[18:00] Speaker 3: let's face it, he's he's considered immediately the next Shanahan, McVeigh,
[18:05] Speaker 3: Kevin O'Connell. Like he's he's very highly regarded by fans
[18:09] Speaker 3: and football circles. I mean, he's just impressive. I've been impressed.
[18:13] Speaker 3: He's not just some pushover. He's kind of a hard
[18:16] Speaker 3: ass and he even toxsic. I've been hard on Caleb
[18:18] Speaker 3: and he hasn't liked it all. I was like, I
[18:20] Speaker 3: kind of respect that. You know he's been he's been
[18:22] Speaker 3: very I mean you're back there seeing as local press conferences.
[18:25] Speaker 3: He's he's pretty candid about like, it's not it's not
[18:29] Speaker 3: he's not running some it's pretty tight ship. I would
[18:33] Speaker 3: say he's got some Dan Campbell qualities, which I did
[18:36] Speaker 3: not expect from an offensive guy.
[18:39] Speaker 2: The rivalry is the marching bands, the upsets. All right, folks,

[19:56] Speaker 2: So the Live Tour is more global than the PGA Tour,
[20:00] Speaker 2: which I liked. I think golf's an individual sport as
[20:04] Speaker 2: somebody born in Australia and now live is global, so
[20:08] Speaker 2: it fits. But how did you view the PGA when
[20:11] Speaker 2: you were fourteen fifty? How did you view the PGA
[20:16] Speaker 2: or would you have been happy being Australia's you were second,
[20:20] Speaker 2: first or second best golfer? Like did you immediately at
[20:22] Speaker 2: eight years old look at American say that's where I'm
[20:25] Speaker 2: going to play?
[20:28] Speaker 1: Yeah?
[20:28] Speaker 4: Absolutely, I mean that was you know, growing up on
[20:31] Speaker 4: watching guys like Jason Day and Adam Scott and Tiger.
[20:35] Speaker 1: Of course that's where I wanted to be.
[20:40] Speaker 4: But that was because all the best players were playing
[20:42] Speaker 4: there and it was really the only place you could play. Yeah,
[20:47] Speaker 4: so absolutely I wanted to be in the US, play
[20:51] Speaker 4: on the PGA Tour and you know, be the best
[20:54] Speaker 4: golfer I could be, But like I mentioned, it was
[20:56] Speaker 4: the only option at that point.
[20:59] Speaker 2: Who was the first American golf star in an event
[21:03] Speaker 2: you played with? And what was the experience like? Were
[21:06] Speaker 2: you nervous? Was it like, oh, I've watched him on
[21:08] Speaker 2: TV for years. Go to your first event that you
[21:12] Speaker 2: played with us, You played with a star.
[21:16] Speaker 1: Jeez, I can't even remember. Jeez.
[21:22] Speaker 4: I think one of my first PGA Tour events was
[21:25] Speaker 4: maybe the Pebble Beach pro Ham. I can't remember who
[21:27] Speaker 4: I played with. You know, I knew Jason a fair
[21:34] Speaker 4: bit by then. He was probably you know, the Jason Day. Yeah,
[21:39] Speaker 4: Jason Day. He was probably the first guy that I
[21:42] Speaker 4: spent a fair bit of time around and went, Wow,
[21:45] Speaker 4: this guy.
[21:46] Speaker 1: Is so much better than me. I've got so much
[21:48] Speaker 1: work today.
[21:50] Speaker 4: But I was I was probably only twenty one, twenty
[21:52] Speaker 4: two years old, and he was that kind of the
[21:54] Speaker 4: peak of his career. He was playing some amazing golf
[21:56] Speaker 4: when I come on tour. Yeah, but he was probably
[22:02] Speaker 4: the first guy that I really got kind of stuff
[22:04] Speaker 4: struck around. And then you know, as as time went on,
[22:07] Speaker 4: you play with different guys and you know you've grown
[22:11] Speaker 4: up your whole life watching them. Yeah, but Jason was
[22:16] Speaker 4: definitely the first guy I was like, holy shit, I'm
[22:18] Speaker 4: so bad at golf.
[22:22] Speaker 2: Well, I mean, I always tell my kids life is
[22:25] Speaker 2: about reaction, not action, So you obviously, you know you
[22:28] Speaker 2: have to kind of go home and not soul can
[22:31] Speaker 2: kind of figure it out here? Are there are there
[22:34] Speaker 2: courses for you? You know, as you travel around the world,
[22:39] Speaker 2: and I've asked lived players this before. I'm just now
[22:44] Speaker 2: becoming addicted to golf. Is there a country I know
[22:48] Speaker 2: it's tormenting. Is there is there a country that you
[22:53] Speaker 2: look at and think is underrated, that you look at
[22:55] Speaker 2: the courses and you look at the young players. Is
[22:59] Speaker 2: there a place in the globe that maybe is fairly
[23:02] Speaker 2: new to you and you think it has an incredibly
[23:05] Speaker 2: promising future in the sport?
[23:09] Speaker 4: I would say I would say Asia. You know, Asia
[23:12] Speaker 4: is a continent. I don't think there's one kind of
[23:14] Speaker 4: country that really stands out. You know, every golf course
[23:18] Speaker 4: that we've gone to in Asia is has been phenomenal,
[23:23] Speaker 4: Right I hear, Yeah, not only the design and stuff
[23:28] Speaker 4: like that, but just their practice facilities. You know, they're
[23:33] Speaker 4: they're so excited as well to have you there. It's
[23:35] Speaker 4: it's such a cool place. But I would say I
[23:39] Speaker 4: would say, for sure, in the next you know, ten
[23:41] Speaker 4: twenty years, that's the place i'd look to to where
[23:46] Speaker 4: I think the most good golf is going to come
[23:47] Speaker 4: out of You know, there's there's a fair View in
[23:50] Speaker 4: Australia as well South Africa.
[23:53] Speaker 1: We're going there next year. I'm looking forward to getting there.
[23:57] Speaker 4: You know, there are places where good office have come
[24:00] Speaker 4: kind of regularly, but I think we'll see the biggest
[24:02] Speaker 4: implux in Asia for sure.
[24:05] Speaker 2: I'm going to give you a golfer and you give
[24:07] Speaker 2: me a sentence as if I've never seen him play.
[24:10] Speaker 2: I've never seen him play, and I want you to
[24:13] Speaker 2: describe their greatness John.
[24:16] Speaker 1: Willm oh, I mean, he's incredible.
[24:24] Speaker 4: It feels like when you're playing against him, when you're
[24:28] Speaker 4: up near the lead, when you're in contention with him,
[24:32] Speaker 4: it feels like you have to do everything perfect to
[24:35] Speaker 4: beat him. That's drive the ball, chip the ball, you know,
[24:38] Speaker 4: approach everything. It feels like he doesn't let up, he
[24:42] Speaker 4: doesn't miss a shot. He's so consistent, you know, like
[24:47] Speaker 4: out here he's had I think every start he's had
[24:49] Speaker 4: like a top ten, you know, which is which is
[24:52] Speaker 4: a crazy thing. People might not think that that's that's hard,
[24:55] Speaker 4: but it's hard. Would I would say, just incredibly consistent
[25:01] Speaker 4: persistent as well, like doesn't let up, and he's and
[25:05] Speaker 4: he's a fighter too, you know when when he's when
[25:08] Speaker 4: he's on his heels. You know, more often than not
[25:12] Speaker 4: he comes out on top.
[25:15] Speaker 2: An older guy, but one of my favorite players ever,
[25:18] Speaker 2: Phil Mickelson. I've never seen him play. Describe Phil Mickelson.
[25:26] Speaker 1: A crazy golfer, to be honest.
[25:28] Speaker 4: I've played with Phil a lot, particularly the last you know,
[25:32] Speaker 4: five or six years. You know, I've played with him
[25:37] Speaker 4: when he strips the ball, hits everything perfect, does all
[25:40] Speaker 4: the right stuff. And I've played with him where he
[25:43] Speaker 4: hits it offline. He sees miraculous shots and gets up
[25:47] Speaker 4: and down and kind of keeps the momentum going.
[25:49] Speaker 1: He's definitely a momentum guy.
[25:51] Speaker 4: Once he gets on a string of birdies, it seems
[25:54] Speaker 4: like he's not going to stop. But a completely different
[26:00] Speaker 4: golfer to John Rahm in in that. Yeah, he kind
[26:07] Speaker 4: of hits it everywhere and like gets like gets it done.
[26:13] Speaker 2: He's the great chef that spills a few things, but
[26:16] Speaker 2: he's still great.
[26:18] Speaker 1: Yeah. Absolutely, absolutely.
[26:20] Speaker 2: Rory McElroy.
[26:23] Speaker 4: Rory is the most impressive driver of the golf all
[26:26] Speaker 4: I've ever seen. I don't think I'll ever see. I
[26:29] Speaker 4: don't think anyone could ever be better than him off
[26:33] Speaker 4: the tee again, just does all the right stuff. Hits
[26:39] Speaker 4: it in the right places, a very a very He
[26:46] Speaker 4: can be very dominant when he's when he's on, I
[26:50] Speaker 4: feel like he's he's very, very tough to be.
[26:53] Speaker 2: You know, bryceon de Shambo is he looks like a
[26:56] Speaker 2: football player and he's got kind of a crazy personality.
[27:00] Speaker 2: I didn't like him when he initially came on the tour.
[27:02] Speaker 2: I thought he was obnoxious, and then something happened and
[27:05] Speaker 2: two years later I you know, I was always a
[27:08] Speaker 2: Brooks kept Ga guy, and now I love them both.
[27:11] Speaker 2: And reportedly they've mended fences, which makes me happy because
[27:16] Speaker 2: I think they're really great. That's what I've heard. So
[27:19] Speaker 2: first of all, can you confirm that they now speak?
[27:21] Speaker 2: They're okay?
[27:23] Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah, they're okay, Okay.
[27:25] Speaker 2: They're okay.
[27:25] Speaker 4: All right.
[27:26] Speaker 2: Cam's reporting that it's bryceon intimidating just because of a
[27:31] Speaker 2: sheer stature and size when you golf with him. What
[27:33] Speaker 2: is it like to golf with him?
[27:37] Speaker 1: Yeah, he can be intimidating. Again, he can get the
[27:39] Speaker 1: driving going as well.
[27:42] Speaker 4: For me, I would say, on a kind of average
[27:44] Speaker 4: kind of length, guy, I don't I don't hit the
[27:48] Speaker 4: ball too short, I don't hit it too far. He
[27:51] Speaker 4: can just overpower golf courses like no one else can,
[27:56] Speaker 4: and it can be quite intimidating.
[27:58] Speaker 1: But I don't think.
[28:01] Speaker 4: I don't think there's a golf course he can play
[28:03] Speaker 4: that necessarily I can't play, if that makes sense. Sure,
[28:09] Speaker 4: but yeah, he can get that driver going. It's pretty crazy,
[28:14] Speaker 4: you know. Sometimes he's, you know, seventy eighty ninety yardds
[28:18] Speaker 4: ahead of you, and it's pretty demoralizing.
[28:24] Speaker 1: The volume
