[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. What is going on everybody? How are we
[0:18] Speaker 1: doing three in our podcast? Probably not as well as
[0:21] Speaker 1: JJ McCarthy, who had one of the great fourth quarter
[0:25] Speaker 1: turnarounds to start a career you'll ever see. It looked
[0:29] Speaker 1: like he was gonna get benched by week four, to
[0:32] Speaker 1: becoming I don't know, pretty legendary debut. A couple of touchdowns,
[0:38] Speaker 1: throwing another one running to take down the Bears. Caleb Williams,
[0:42] Speaker 1: Ben Johnson, what a night. We will dive into JJ
[0:46] Speaker 1: to Kleb, to that game, to Howie Roseman making deals,
[0:51] Speaker 1: trying to trade for Micah Parsons, the Giants, sticking with
[0:55] Speaker 1: Russell Wilson. I don't think it's a great idea. And
[0:59] Speaker 1: a couple couple quick thoughts on Tom Brady watched a
[1:01] Speaker 1: lot of his broadcast, And we'll also do a mailbag

[1:53] Speaker 1: really good game. That's a that's an excellent Thursday night game. Actually,
[1:56] Speaker 1: so very very fired up for that one. And we'll

[2:51] Speaker 1: last minute tickets, lowest prices guaranteed. Let's dive into what
[2:57] Speaker 1: we just witnessed. And I've been thinking a lot about
[2:59] Speaker 1: this because forever, I would say, conventional wisdom with people
[3:05] Speaker 1: that talk about football, with people that talk about draft prospects,
[3:08] Speaker 1: and you know, the draft order and drafting quarterbacks, is
[3:12] Speaker 1: how lucky it is for quarterbacks to go to good teams.
[3:17] Speaker 1: I e. Patrick Mahomes when the Chiefs traded up to
[3:20] Speaker 1: get him, and he eventually replaced Alex Smith, and I said, yeah,
[3:25] Speaker 1: I mean in theory, it makes a lot of sense.
[3:27] Speaker 1: But you better be good right away because we have
[3:30] Speaker 1: a couple recent examples of guys getting acquired drafted high
[3:35] Speaker 1: by teams, the forty nine ers with Super Bowl expectations
[3:38] Speaker 1: and the Colts with Playoff expectations, and your leash is
[3:43] Speaker 1: way smaller than the guys that get drafted on god
[3:47] Speaker 1: awful teams. Take Bryce Young for example. He showed some
[3:51] Speaker 1: signs of life at the end of last season, but
[3:54] Speaker 1: he just had a horrendous game year three. You know what,
[3:58] Speaker 1: no one saw it. It actually doesn't matter now. Is
[4:02] Speaker 1: he going to be their quarterback in three years? I
[4:04] Speaker 1: wouldn't feel confident about saying that, but he's gonna get
[4:07] Speaker 1: this year. They play in a market, they play for
[4:09] Speaker 1: a team that's not winning many games. People aren't paying attention.
[4:12] Speaker 1: But when Trey Lance was thrust into the starting lineup,
[4:15] Speaker 1: it was like, you better be good and right away.
[4:17] Speaker 1: Some of the star players like, I don't see it
[4:20] Speaker 1: last year, Anthony Richardson, all the guys like, we are out.
[4:23] Speaker 1: And that's what it felt like watching JJ McCarthy today.
[4:26] Speaker 1: It's like this is a roster and a franchise that
[4:29] Speaker 1: won fourteen games last year, was sixteen minutes away from
[4:32] Speaker 1: being the number one seed. Who I don't know if
[4:35] Speaker 1: they have Super Bowl aspirations with a first time starter
[4:37] Speaker 1: at quarterback, but at minimum competing for the division and
[4:41] Speaker 1: be playing in January. Anything less than a playoff game,
[4:45] Speaker 1: even if it is on the road as a wild
[4:47] Speaker 1: card team, would be an awful pill to swallow for
[4:51] Speaker 1: everyone in Minnesota, given that they clearly have one of
[4:55] Speaker 1: the best rosters in the NFL and obviously an excellent
[4:59] Speaker 1: head coat coach who's the offensive play caller and a
[5:02] Speaker 1: dominant defensive coordinator, and just a winning culture this franchise
[5:05] Speaker 1: since Kevin O'Connell has been there, we've lost the playoff games,
[5:08] Speaker 1: two of them as favorites, but they have been an
[5:11] Speaker 1: excellent regular season team. And you're watching that first half
[5:15] Speaker 1: and you're going, this might not work. Not because you're
[5:19] Speaker 1: just going, this guy physically can't play, even though he
[5:23] Speaker 1: looked definitely overwhelmed and he was swimming on the road. Honestly,
[5:26] Speaker 1: it had it had some march manning at Ohio State
[5:29] Speaker 1: feels it's like this is way too big for this guy.
[5:32] Speaker 1: This is he's melting down, and then he throws the
[5:34] Speaker 1: pick six and you start thinking, is this guy gonna
[5:37] Speaker 1: make it to Halloween? Do they need to get on
[5:39] Speaker 1: the phone and call Atlanta to get Kirk Cousins back?
[5:43] Speaker 1: What are they gonna do? How can they look Justin
[5:45] Speaker 1: Jefferson in the face? How can they look all the
[5:47] Speaker 1: guys on defense in the face? How can they ask
[5:50] Speaker 1: their star left tackle to battle back from rehabilitating his
[5:54] Speaker 1: torn knee for this? And then he flipped a switch
[6:00] Speaker 1: and you went, what did I just witness? And one
[6:03] Speaker 1: thing I would say, two things we don't talk enough
[6:05] Speaker 1: about when it comes to quarterbacks mental toughness and obviously
[6:10] Speaker 1: physical toughness. And the mental toughness won. This guy started
[6:13] Speaker 1: for Harbaugh for a couple of years, and it's why
[6:15] Speaker 1: I had reservations about the player because I went one.
[6:19] Speaker 1: He played at Michigan, which the majority of teams they played,
[6:23] Speaker 1: they had a huge talent advantage. He was on a
[6:26] Speaker 1: roster with basically every guy started on offense, started on defense,
[6:31] Speaker 1: and most of the backups were NFL players. He lost
[6:34] Speaker 1: one game in college and it was a freak game
[6:37] Speaker 1: to TCU and Sunny Dikes, which they should have been
[6:39] Speaker 1: in the National Championship game back to back games. Now,
[6:42] Speaker 1: they probably would have lost that Georgia team in the
[6:44] Speaker 1: National Championship, but this guy's not used to losing. And
[6:48] Speaker 1: my reservation was the way they played in college, a
[6:51] Speaker 1: run first coach. I don't know how this is gonna
[6:55] Speaker 1: mesh with Minnesota and a coach that wants to throw
[6:59] Speaker 1: the ball. Now, he only had twenty attempts to night,
[7:01] Speaker 1: and through early in the game it was not pretty
[7:04] Speaker 1: at all. But by the end of the game, you
[7:06] Speaker 1: saw him drive passes, you saw him touch passes, you
[7:10] Speaker 1: saw him manipulate the pocket, you saw him stand in
[7:13] Speaker 1: the pocket. Obviously he ran for a touchdown. And I
[7:16] Speaker 1: was thinking about this, like, if you get hired out
[7:18] Speaker 1: of college at Chase Bank or Goldman Sachs, and the
[7:23] Speaker 1: first thing they do is say, hey, you're gonna go
[7:25] Speaker 1: meet with Warren Buffett or Jeff Bezos tonight or tomorrow,
[7:29] Speaker 1: our biggest clients. That'd be asking them a lot. And
[7:32] Speaker 1: that's kind of what it feels like when you get
[7:35] Speaker 1: drafted to a team that has thirteen, fourteen to fifteen
[7:38] Speaker 1: win expectations. There is no margin foreer everyone is watching
[7:42] Speaker 1: your games most of us out of college aren't asked
[7:46] Speaker 1: to do much, get the shitty assignments. That is playing
[7:49] Speaker 1: for the Carolina Panthers. And you watch tonight on the
[7:52] Speaker 1: road in Chicago. The place is buzzn't The defense is
[7:55] Speaker 1: flying around. You're like, listen, this is it's only one game.
[7:59] Speaker 1: It's on the row, but this is gonna be hard
[8:01] Speaker 1: to overcome. They threw the kitchen stick at him and
[8:04] Speaker 1: he kind of failed, and then the fourth quarter happened.
[8:07] Speaker 1: They were around seventeen to six, They won twenty seven
[8:11] Speaker 1: to twenty four, and he accounted for three touchdowns. So
[8:14] Speaker 1: that was I don't know as exhilarating of a turnarounds
[8:21] Speaker 1: I can ever remember for a young player. And if
[8:23] Speaker 1: you're a Minnesota Viking fan right now, you get Atlanta
[8:26] Speaker 1: at home this upcoming week on Sunday Night football, you're
[8:29] Speaker 1: feeling pretty good about yourself because that young guy. And
[8:32] Speaker 1: Troy Aikman said, this showed a lot of moxie, a
[8:35] Speaker 1: lot of toughness. And the thing I'll never forget about
[8:38] Speaker 1: the Trey Lance San Francisco experience was how their star
[8:42] Speaker 1: core didn't believe in the guy. And when you don't
[8:46] Speaker 1: have your Pro Bowl all pro level guys believing in
[8:49] Speaker 1: your quarterback. It's over before it even starts. We saw
[8:52] Speaker 1: that the Colts don't have as many high end guys,
[8:55] Speaker 1: but it was clear they turned on him as well.
[8:58] Speaker 1: And tonight you're thinking, like God, is is Jefferson gonna believe? Here?
[9:01] Speaker 1: Are all the guys on defense gonna believe? Is Jordan
[9:04] Speaker 1: Addison when he comes back? This is not gonna work?
[9:07] Speaker 1: Is darrisaw going? What am I rehabbing for? And now
[9:11] Speaker 1: in the locker room, I can imagine when these videos
[9:13] Speaker 1: go viral, they're having him break it down. They're going nuts,
[9:17] Speaker 1: They're giving him the game ball. There is belief. There
[9:20] Speaker 1: is nothing more powerful in this world than hope. It
[9:24] Speaker 1: is just a powerful driver for us all at any
[9:27] Speaker 1: point in time in our life. And I think that
[9:31] Speaker 1: hope and that belief that that team showed looking at
[9:34] Speaker 1: their quarterback, how fired up their head coaches. There is
[9:38] Speaker 1: no disputing this. Their coaching staff in Minnesota is excellent. Now,
[9:43] Speaker 1: I think Kevin can get a little pass happy though.
[9:46] Speaker 1: Tonight I thought he did a good job and one
[9:48] Speaker 1: thing that he settled JJ down a little bit. He
[9:51] Speaker 1: handed the ball to Jordan Mason, who somehow is on
[9:55] Speaker 1: their team because the forty nine ers wanted to save
[9:57] Speaker 1: a couple million dollars. That guy's a good running back,
[10:00] Speaker 1: Aaron Jones, excellent pass catching running back. Out of the backfield.
[10:04] Speaker 1: You can throw him wheel routes till the cows come home.
[10:07] Speaker 1: And a couple times I thought in the playoffs, specifically
[10:09] Speaker 1: last year in the Lions game, in the Rams game,
[10:13] Speaker 1: I thought Kevin got a little pass happy, and listen,
[10:15] Speaker 1: we all have our philosophical beliefs when it comes to football,
[10:18] Speaker 1: if we're an offensive guy or a defensive guy. Kevin
[10:21] Speaker 1: likes to pass. But I thought tonight he did a
[10:23] Speaker 1: really good job of just balancing it a little bit.
[10:26] Speaker 1: And once JJ got his confidence, throw a to eighteen,
[10:29] Speaker 1: Throw it to eighteen, throw it to eighteen. And obviously
[10:32] Speaker 1: that's where the floodgates open when he hit him on
[10:34] Speaker 1: the touchdown. And you know, Brian Flores is elite at
[10:38] Speaker 1: what he does that defense. This was the question mark
[10:42] Speaker 1: with the team. I looked as JJ was melting down,
[10:45] Speaker 1: and I was like, this is why I think his
[10:46] Speaker 1: leash is going to be small. Through the first four
[10:49] Speaker 1: games last year, Sam Darnold had thrown twelve touchdowns. Minnesota
[10:55] Speaker 1: came out of the gates so hot. Obviously from a
[10:58] Speaker 1: win lost standpoint, but from an offensive standpoint. He threw
[11:02] Speaker 1: two touchdowns in the first two games, and then it
[11:04] Speaker 1: was four and three. He was slinging that pill. It
[11:08] Speaker 1: was just fireworks. So the expectations, which I understand letting
[11:13] Speaker 1: him go, was to use those resources and buy other players.
[11:17] Speaker 1: Totally get it. But then the pressure, even you know,
[11:20] Speaker 1: amplifies on JJ and he answered the bell, you know,
[11:24] Speaker 1: for a guy that did not even throw for one
[11:26] Speaker 1: hundred and fifty yards. I can't tell you how impressed
[11:30] Speaker 1: I am, because the one thing when you're scouting players,
[11:34] Speaker 1: you know, we can all see JJ can run around.
[11:36] Speaker 1: Look at Caleb that there's no disputing. Honestly, he's even
[11:39] Speaker 1: a better athlete than I thought. You watch him sling
[11:42] Speaker 1: that thing. He's throwing one hundred mile an hour fastballs.
[11:44] Speaker 1: My mom can see the physical gifts. How about the
[11:47] Speaker 1: mental gifts? How about the intangibles? What's it like when
[11:51] Speaker 1: shit's hitting the fan. I've referenced this a couple of times.
[11:54] Speaker 1: The Athletic article on quarterbacks, and the premise of it
[11:58] Speaker 1: was something Kevin O'Connell said did organizations fail quarterbacks? Not
[12:02] Speaker 1: the other way around that quarterbacks fail organizations. And Bill
[12:06] Speaker 1: Parcells was quoted in there saying, don't evaluate quarterbacks when
[12:11] Speaker 1: they throw three touchdowns and win. Everyone acts the same.
[12:15] Speaker 1: Evaluate them when things are crumbling around them, when they
[12:19] Speaker 1: throw a pick six, when they look like shit, How
[12:22] Speaker 1: do they act? How do they carry themselves? And we
[12:25] Speaker 1: got a front row seat watching JJ McCarthy because he
[12:28] Speaker 1: throws that pick six to the practice squad guy who
[12:31] Speaker 1: honestly looked pretty six to four corner from Oregon State,
[12:35] Speaker 1: fascinating player. Awful that he ends up hurting his knee
[12:38] Speaker 1: late in the game, but has the pick six. He
[12:41] Speaker 1: had gone against Justin Jefferson last year in practice, every
[12:44] Speaker 1: single day when he was on the Minnesota Vikings. To
[12:47] Speaker 1: have that moment in Chicago, what a cool, just thing
[12:50] Speaker 1: to happen to that guy's career. And it felt like
[12:53] Speaker 1: he was ruining JJ's moment, and JJ was melting down
[12:56] Speaker 1: in front of us all and then that fourth quarter
[12:59] Speaker 1: happened and he turned into Sam Darnold or Kirk Cousins,
[13:03] Speaker 1: the guys that Kevin O'Connell has won a ton of
[13:06] Speaker 1: games with. So congrat to JJ McCarthy that that was
[13:10] Speaker 1: extremely impressive. Now on the flo and listen Minnesota. One
[13:15] Speaker 1: thing I wrote down is I was like, green Bay's
[13:18] Speaker 1: watching this game. When the Bears looked okay, they weren't
[13:22] Speaker 1: doing anything on offense or defense looked good and Minnesota
[13:24] Speaker 1: looked terrible. I'm like, what a win for the green
[13:26] Speaker 1: Bay Packers. You get the Lions with a ton of issues,
[13:29] Speaker 1: You got the Bears offense can't do anything. You got
[13:32] Speaker 1: Minnesota that might have a quarterback problem. I'm texting our
[13:36] Speaker 1: group text thinking green Bay's gonna win this division by
[13:39] Speaker 1: three or four games. And now I feel I still
[13:42] Speaker 1: like green Bay. But hey, listen, Minnesota is loaded and
[13:46] Speaker 1: we're gonna find Chicago. They go to Detroit this week,
[13:51] Speaker 1: who clearly is going to be really, really motivated. Let's
[13:57] Speaker 1: touch on Kleeb. I want to say this as nice
[14:02] Speaker 1: as I can. Like I mentioned, physically gifted, he made
[14:06] Speaker 1: some plays tonight with his legs faster than I even thought.
[14:10] Speaker 1: No one has ever questioned his arm. He spins it
[14:13] Speaker 1: exactly like you want it. But we don't pay you
[14:16] Speaker 1: to just run around or just to spin it into
[14:19] Speaker 1: the ground. Pay you to pay quarterback that's why he
[14:22] Speaker 1: was drafted number one overall. And as this game went,
[14:26] Speaker 1: I went, I don't know if I see it. And
[14:29] Speaker 1: early on in the game, I think people were giving
[14:31] Speaker 1: him a ton of credit. He's nine for his first nine,
[14:34] Speaker 1: well eight of those were dumpoffs. He was dunking, and
[14:37] Speaker 1: Duncan and even Troy kind of mentioned early in the
[14:40] Speaker 1: game it's like, I think there were a couple passes there.
[14:42] Speaker 1: He just he didn't let it rip. Now, new offense,
[14:46] Speaker 1: trying to play under control. I'll give you the benefit
[14:49] Speaker 1: of the doubt. You don't want to make a mistake
[14:50] Speaker 1: early new coach, who's you know? Clearly, as Joe Buck said,
[14:55] Speaker 1: wound tight over there. The offense is baby. You're just
[14:58] Speaker 1: trying to move the ball down the field and get
[15:01] Speaker 1: your offense going in a positive direction. As the game
[15:05] Speaker 1: went on, though, I don't feel he's a rhythm player.
[15:09] Speaker 1: I don't feel he's a natural in the pocket play
[15:12] Speaker 1: quarterback player. To me, the way he would have any
[15:16] Speaker 1: success in the NFL, because for a long time in
[15:18] Speaker 1: this game it was seventeen to six. The seven points
[15:22] Speaker 1: after he ran for the first touchdown on the first
[15:24] Speaker 1: drive of the game came from the pick six. The
[15:27] Speaker 1: offense was doing nothing. It was punt punt, three and out,
[15:31] Speaker 1: three and out. It was ugly that they couldn't move
[15:34] Speaker 1: the ball. And I watched Caleb Williams and I go,
[15:38] Speaker 1: I don't see the mesh with Ben Johnson. I really don't.
[15:42] Speaker 1: I don't see a guy in the pocket that has
[15:44] Speaker 1: a great feel for the subtle movements. He's natural, like
[15:48] Speaker 1: I gotta take off and because of his physical gifts,
[15:51] Speaker 1: he's really fast, he can move and he can throw
[15:53] Speaker 1: on the run a lot like Russell Wilson back in
[15:56] Speaker 1: the day with Seattle. He has those attributes, but sitting
[16:00] Speaker 1: in the pocket, countless throws over the middle of the
[16:02] Speaker 1: field throughout the game. He missed even the last pass
[16:06] Speaker 1: on that final drive where he hits Comet, which kind
[16:09] Speaker 1: of looked like it hit the ground. Comet made an
[16:11] Speaker 1: incredible effort. Is it cole like six four to sixty
[16:14] Speaker 1: five to one hand and above him. He's not a
[16:17] Speaker 1: naturally accurate player over the middle when he has to
[16:20] Speaker 1: play in rhythm. Also on that drive, what did he do?
[16:23] Speaker 1: He missed DJ Moore wide open in the corner. So
[16:26] Speaker 1: as the game went on, and we're not scripted, anymore.
[16:30] Speaker 1: And I can't just dink and dunk my way down
[16:32] Speaker 1: the field. I have to make some throws. I didn't
[16:34] Speaker 1: see it now, I'm not acting like the guy some
[16:37] Speaker 1: scrub that. There's definitely stuff there. But this is what
[16:41] Speaker 1: we've talked about since the beginning with Ben Johnson. Their
[16:45] Speaker 1: styles are opposite of each other. Like as the game
[16:48] Speaker 1: went on, Kevin O'Connell, he's like, this is what I've
[16:50] Speaker 1: been looking for. This is Kirk Cousin. Couldn't move Sam,
[16:55] Speaker 1: you know, just could freak out a little bit in
[16:58] Speaker 1: the pocket. And as the game went on, like, that's it.
[17:01] Speaker 1: That's the guy we wanted. Now, short sample size only
[17:04] Speaker 1: the fourth quarter Bears were gassed. I mean, he's got
[17:07] Speaker 1: a long way to go. It's a long season. But
[17:09] Speaker 1: if you're Kevin O'Connell, when you crack that cocktail or
[17:12] Speaker 1: beer on that flight home as you're watching the All
[17:15] Speaker 1: twenty two, you're gonna have a smile. Here to hear
[17:18] Speaker 1: you saw Ben Johnson look like he was seeing ghosts
[17:22] Speaker 1: or something like, what is happening here? What is going
[17:25] Speaker 1: on with my offense? We got Loveland, who's the top
[17:27] Speaker 1: ten pick. We got Cole Comet, who was a top
[17:30] Speaker 1: whatever one hundred pick, who's got a second contract. We
[17:33] Speaker 1: got rom A Doonsa. It was the ninth pick of
[17:34] Speaker 1: the draft. We got DJ Moore, who was essentially we
[17:37] Speaker 1: traded instead of getting an extra first round pick from Carolina,
[17:40] Speaker 1: we got Dj Moore. We accumulated all these offensive linemen,
[17:43] Speaker 1: and our offense fucking blows. Now. I get it first
[17:47] Speaker 1: real game, but man, as the game went on, it
[17:51] Speaker 1: felt like they had no shot and Caleb kind of
[17:54] Speaker 1: gets out of rhythm and the whole thing kind of
[17:56] Speaker 1: falls apart. So the Bears defense is gonna be solid.
[18:00] Speaker 1: Dennis Allen's a good defensive coordinator. There's no disputing the
[18:03] Speaker 1: offensive weapons on the Bears, but sometimes just off now
[18:07] Speaker 1: you can say, hey, it's the same thing. This happens
[18:09] Speaker 1: to the Bears all the time. The main difference between
[18:13] Speaker 1: these two teams is JJ McCarthy is Kevin O'Connell's guy.
[18:18] Speaker 1: And in pro sports that really matters, especially when it
[18:23] Speaker 1: comes to the NFL and it draft picks, specifically quarterbacks.
[18:27] Speaker 1: That is my guy. I will run through a wall
[18:30] Speaker 1: and do anything for him. You see it all over
[18:33] Speaker 1: the league, right. Obviously, when people have success, Andy and
[18:36] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes. But even through the struggles of twenty four
[18:40] Speaker 1: hours ago in Denver, bo Nicks is Sean Payton's guy,
[18:45] Speaker 1: brock Perty is Kyle Shanahan's guy. Kevin O'Connell and JJ
[18:49] Speaker 1: McCarthy are tied and connected at the hip, no different
[18:52] Speaker 1: than Adam Peters and Dan Quinn with Jaden Daniels. Ben
[18:56] Speaker 1: Johnson did in draft this guy and listen because I
[18:59] Speaker 1: didn't described to the substack. I couldn't read the last
[19:02] Speaker 1: article of the three part series. But you lose games
[19:07] Speaker 1: the offense sputters. This is when you get problems, and
[19:11] Speaker 1: the other thing is internally in the locker room. The
[19:13] Speaker 1: defensive guy's gotta be going. We played our ass off
[19:17] Speaker 1: our all pro corner didn't even play to night, and
[19:20] Speaker 1: we were dominating this game. We were making this guy
[19:23] Speaker 1: look like he should have been a practice squad quarterback.
[19:27] Speaker 1: We were kicking his ass, and instead of being up
[19:30] Speaker 1: seventeen to six, if we had a little more juice
[19:33] Speaker 1: on the offensive side of the ball, maybe we're up
[19:35] Speaker 1: twenty eight to six. And we're up so much that
[19:38] Speaker 1: even if JJ is mentally tough and Kevin O'Connell is
[19:41] Speaker 1: an exceptional coach. They don't have enough firepower to come back.
[19:45] Speaker 1: It's not even possible. But because the offense did nothing,
[19:48] Speaker 1: they were still in the game. And I saw to
[19:51] Speaker 1: Night one team with a brand new quarterback. Caleb has
[19:54] Speaker 1: all those starts last year, right, So early in the
[19:58] Speaker 1: game you saw JJ deering the headline. He first NFL
[20:01] Speaker 1: start on the road Chicago, Like not an easy spot.
[20:04] Speaker 1: Caleb as seventeen starts last season, right, so it's yeah,
[20:07] Speaker 1: he was much more calm, much more in control. But
[20:10] Speaker 1: then the game goes and the script's thrown out the window.
[20:13] Speaker 1: You're calling plays, you're audibling flores is, you know, dialing
[20:16] Speaker 1: up different blitz is, different pressures. They got guys moving
[20:18] Speaker 1: all over and it's like, I don't know what's going on.
[20:21] Speaker 1: And that's Chicago of just like this is something in
[20:24] Speaker 1: a monitor. I'm not jumping off this hill because I
[20:28] Speaker 1: think it's I think it's got an opportunity to get weird,
[20:31] Speaker 1: and it's got an opportunity to get weird. This weekend,
[20:33] Speaker 1: going back into Detroit, who just got curb stopped by
[20:37] Speaker 1: the Green Bay Packers, thoroughly embarrassed. I haven't had a
[20:40] Speaker 1: chance to watch any of Dan Campbell's press conferences, but
[20:43] Speaker 1: I can't imagine after the game on Sunday he was
[20:45] Speaker 1: pretty hot. He's gonna be really motivated. We've seen a
[20:48] Speaker 1: lot of clips over the years of like the hard
[20:50] Speaker 1: knock stuff behind the scenes of him at just in
[20:53] Speaker 1: front of the team. This is gonna be a big
[20:56] Speaker 1: moment for him, especially with Ben Johnson coming back. So
[21:00] Speaker 1: the Bears better be really careful. Before you blink, it
[21:03] Speaker 1: could be oh and two. So massive, massive win for Minnesota,
[21:08] Speaker 1: massive gut check for JJ McCarthy. And if you're a
[21:10] Speaker 1: Vikings fan, I would be sleeping pretty well. And if
[21:16] Speaker 1: I'm a Bears fan, I go, what the hell? Man?
[21:20] Speaker 1: Can we ever win? Why does this happen to it?
[21:22] Speaker 1: No matter how good our players are, no matter how
[21:25] Speaker 1: sexy the start of our games are, no matter how fun.
[21:27] Speaker 1: That national anthem in the beginning of the game was
[21:30] Speaker 1: we're dominating our divisional opponent. When the clock hits double zero,
[21:35] Speaker 1: we lose. They win. We are extremely excited to announce

[23:11] Speaker 1: speaking about a guy that just wins. I think most
[23:16] Speaker 1: people in life it is it's much easier to go
[23:21] Speaker 1: no and just say no and take the conservative route, Like, yeah,
[23:26] Speaker 1: I'm not gonna ask her out. She'll probably say no.
[23:29] Speaker 1: You know, I'm not gonna call this guy. He probably won't,
[23:32] Speaker 1: you know, be interested in what I'm selling. You know.
[23:35] Speaker 1: It's like I could take this job, but I gotta move,
[23:38] Speaker 1: and it's like I like my life, I like my gig.
[23:40] Speaker 1: Now it's a great opportunity. Most human beings just naturally
[23:45] Speaker 1: take the easy route slash convince themselves to go the
[23:50] Speaker 1: conservative way. It's human nature. I'm guilty of this too.
[23:53] Speaker 1: We all are. There is a small percentage of people
[23:57] Speaker 1: that one percent never think that way, and their first
[24:01] Speaker 1: reaction is always like why not, why can't we do it?
[24:05] Speaker 1: Let's do it? How can we do it? What do
[24:08] Speaker 1: we have to do to get there? And I had
[24:09] Speaker 1: a front row seat for two years. When I got
[24:12] Speaker 1: hired from Fresno State to the Philadelphia Eagles. I had
[24:15] Speaker 1: never been around a guy like Howlie Roseman never in
[24:19] Speaker 1: my whatever twenty five years of life to that point
[24:21] Speaker 1: in time, the aggressive nature just how it was one
[24:25] Speaker 1: hundred miles an hour every moment we were in the office,
[24:29] Speaker 1: and it was an incredible learning experience for me. I
[24:32] Speaker 1: felt like I was drinking out of a fire hose
[24:34] Speaker 1: because even when I was around other football people previous places,
[24:38] Speaker 1: it was like, ah, yeah, we're not going to get
[24:40] Speaker 1: that guy. We don't need to waste time doing that.
[24:41] Speaker 1: That was never tolerated in Philadelphia. It was a mentality
[24:46] Speaker 1: of looking at minimum every rock and even once you
[24:50] Speaker 1: pull up that rock and look under, look on the
[24:52] Speaker 1: other side as well. And Jay Glazer came out on
[24:56] Speaker 1: Fox's Morning show and gave a report Maybe it was
[25:00] Speaker 1: out there, but I hadn't seen it that said that
[25:03] Speaker 1: Howie Roseman aggressively tried to trade for Micah Parsons and
[25:07] Speaker 1: actually had a better offer than the Green Bay Packers. Now,
[25:10] Speaker 1: obviously Jerry Jones, you know, would probably fold the franchise
[25:13] Speaker 1: before he was gonna trade Micah Parsons to the Eagles. Now,
[25:16] Speaker 1: I do think if Howie would have added like three
[25:19] Speaker 1: first round picks or comes to a point where yeah,
[25:21] Speaker 1: your fans are gonna hate you. Everyone's gonna want you
[25:24] Speaker 1: to sell the team and hate you until the day
[25:26] Speaker 1: you die. But the deal, if you were gonna be
[25:29] Speaker 1: willing to trade him, you would have to trade him.
[25:30] Speaker 1: But you know, the deal was close enough that you
[25:32] Speaker 1: trade him to the Green Bay Packers. And then today
[25:35] Speaker 1: I look up and how he's traded for a running
[25:36] Speaker 1: back just out of the blue, because Tank Bigsby the
[25:40] Speaker 1: running back in Jacksonville. Obviously ETN had a big first
[25:44] Speaker 1: game for Liam Cohen and they got a backup from
[25:49] Speaker 1: Virginia Tech. It feels like he's just not in the mix.
[25:52] Speaker 1: So how he's like, yeah, we'll give a fifth and
[25:53] Speaker 1: a six round pick for a guy that was drafting
[25:55] Speaker 1: the third round a couple of years ago. So does
[25:57] Speaker 1: this guy ever stop doing deals the NFL. This is
[26:01] Speaker 1: not baseball where it's like, yeah, you know, the Dodgers
[26:04] Speaker 1: have eight hundred million dollars, The Mets can give Juan
[26:07] Speaker 1: Soto three billion dollars, right the Yankees like, oh, they
[26:10] Speaker 1: just signed another guy for five hundred million dollars. There
[26:13] Speaker 1: is a group of six or seven teams that can
[26:15] Speaker 1: do that, and no one else has a shot. Even
[26:17] Speaker 1: in basketball, the Clippers, the Lakers, the Warriors, they can
[26:22] Speaker 1: sign guys to go over thresholds to then pay luxury
[26:27] Speaker 1: tax the Knicks that other teams cannot. So it's not
[26:32] Speaker 1: really equal team to team. Yet in football, if Mike
[26:37] Speaker 1: Brown wanted to trade two first round picks and give
[26:40] Speaker 1: Micah Parsons the eight hundred or the one hundred and
[26:42] Speaker 1: eighty eight million dollars, he could have done that. He
[26:45] Speaker 1: chose not to. And it does feel like there are
[26:48] Speaker 1: a lot of teams out here. And listen, I'm not
[26:50] Speaker 1: saying that how he's right on every deal he makes,
[26:53] Speaker 1: No one can be. But why is he involved in
[26:56] Speaker 1: every single deal in all these other teams, especially in
[26:59] Speaker 1: the AFC, where it's pretty equal, If you have one
[27:01] Speaker 1: of the top six or seven quarterbacks and they're never involved,
[27:04] Speaker 1: they're never ever involved. I understand if you don't have
[27:09] Speaker 1: a quarterback situated yet right to blow the first round
[27:12] Speaker 1: picks totally. But if you have, if you're the Bengals, well,
[27:16] Speaker 1: Hendrickson's gonna walk next year, you just draft Shamar Stewart.
[27:19] Speaker 1: We have no clue. If the guy can play, why
[27:21] Speaker 1: weren't you heavily involved of course that's not how they operate,
[27:25] Speaker 1: because they operate like the guy, Oh, we don't need
[27:27] Speaker 1: to do that, We just need the picks. We'll just now,
[27:30] Speaker 1: we'll just we'll figure it out later. Maybe we can
[27:32] Speaker 1: find a guy on the scrap heap in October. How
[27:35] Speaker 1: he's like, oh, Mike is not available. Do you think
[27:36] Speaker 1: Miles Garrett is and you have obviously he can't do
[27:40] Speaker 1: this solo. He needs the owner to sign off on this.
[27:44] Speaker 1: But the Eagles are operating at such an advantage right now
[27:46] Speaker 1: because their general manager, and again I've seen it firsthand,
[27:50] Speaker 1: is as aggressive of a human being is I'll ever
[27:53] Speaker 1: be around my entire life. And an owner that green
[27:56] Speaker 1: lights these moves from a financial standpoint, and the reason
[28:00] Speaker 1: doesn't get out because clearly, even if the Cowboys were
[28:02] Speaker 1: willing to negotiate, they probably wanted you know, they wanted
[28:06] Speaker 1: to run stuffing guys. So I'm sure they asked for
[28:08] Speaker 1: like Jordan Davis, and if you're how you don't want
[28:11] Speaker 1: that out there. But if they would have played ball,
[28:13] Speaker 1: Jordan Davis two one and a three would have been
[28:16] Speaker 1: there and Micah Parsons would have been an Eagle. And
[28:19] Speaker 1: I think we just need to stop being shocked like
[28:20] Speaker 1: he is making moves and doing stuff that half these
[28:24] Speaker 1: teams that should be way more involved just simply aren't.
[28:27] Speaker 1: It's why I give the Packers credit, because if the
[28:30] Speaker 1: Eagles are aggressively calling, you better be aggressively calling because
[28:33] Speaker 1: you just played them in a playoff game in round
[28:36] Speaker 1: one and kind of got worked. So if you want
[28:39] Speaker 1: to take this next step, and this is why they
[28:40] Speaker 1: did it, so props to Goudikins. But and the other
[28:44] Speaker 1: thing Jay Glazer said is no one in the AFC
[28:47] Speaker 1: was even interested, Like, hey, hey, Buffalo, I just watched
[28:50] Speaker 1: your defense. What the fuck was that? You know? Thank
[28:53] Speaker 1: god you have Josh Allen, who's basically like Lebron James
[28:57] Speaker 1: meets Steph Curry in football right now, because offensively you
[29:00] Speaker 1: could use some help. And I listen, I've supported Jerry
[29:05] Speaker 1: for making the trade, but I also support Green Bay
[29:08] Speaker 1: for pulling the trigger because especially in twenty twenty five,
[29:12] Speaker 1: like they just traded Kenny Clark straight up from Michael Parsons,
[29:15] Speaker 1: Like that's the deal. Those first round picks aren't relevant
[29:18] Speaker 1: till next year. So man, I mean, the Eagles just NonStop.
[29:22] Speaker 1: What a game this weekend Kansas city hosting the Eagles,
[29:26] Speaker 1: the Chiefs are an underdog at home. That's pretty crazy
[29:29] Speaker 1: to me. A couple more things. I think the Giants
[29:36] Speaker 1: are in a weird spot. You know, the consumer, the fan.
[29:41] Speaker 1: I know, these gms and executives and owners just hate
[29:45] Speaker 1: when they dictate the terms. It's like we're just starting
[29:48] Speaker 1: them because the fans are calling into Wfan, They're bitching
[29:52] Speaker 1: and moaning online. It's it's just NonStop and sometimes it's wrong. Right,
[29:58] Speaker 1: Usually the favorite player on an any bad team as
[30:01] Speaker 1: the backup quarterback. But in this situation, like people have
[30:05] Speaker 1: a lot of evidence with Russell Wilson, they've been watching
[30:08] Speaker 1: the guy for almost a decade and a half. This
[30:11] Speaker 1: is just some random player. Like they have seen the decline.
[30:15] Speaker 1: As Colin and I talked about, it's got to be
[30:17] Speaker 1: one of the more precipitous drop offs in the history
[30:20] Speaker 1: of the league. He went from being like an all pro,
[30:23] Speaker 1: pro Bowl level, playmaking, high end guy to be in
[30:27] Speaker 1: kind of a scrub really really quick. And it's not
[30:32] Speaker 1: all his fault why the Giants just lost to the Commanders,
[30:35] Speaker 1: But there's just when you watch him play, there's no
[30:38] Speaker 1: urgency to the way he moves anymore because he's athletically,
[30:41] Speaker 1: he's fallen off a cliff. His playmaking is basically zero.
[30:46] Speaker 1: And if we're gonna lose and just get worked week
[30:48] Speaker 1: in week out, and let's say the Cowboys beat him
[30:51] Speaker 1: by ten points, why are we watching this guy? And
[30:55] Speaker 1: this isn't basketball or baseball where it's like, well, we
[30:57] Speaker 1: got seventy more games. Even if we give it ten
[30:59] Speaker 1: more games, he's gonna get sixty games. You know. In
[31:02] Speaker 1: baseball he's gonna end up playing one hundred and twenty games.
[31:04] Speaker 1: There are only seventeen of these things. And day ball's
[31:07] Speaker 1: in this spot, where are they gonna keep you? Because
[31:11] Speaker 1: if you just watch that first game, even if you
[31:13] Speaker 1: like the guy and you think, listen, I think he's
[31:16] Speaker 1: gonna be right on Jackson Dart. As time goes, you
[31:18] Speaker 1: just lose enough games twenty one to six, your team
[31:20] Speaker 1: looks lifeless. Even if you throw them in November, it
[31:23] Speaker 1: might be too late. Now I've said I think the
[31:25] Speaker 1: over under is like this month. But every game that
[31:29] Speaker 1: goes by is an opportunity wasted. Because even if you're
[31:32] Speaker 1: losing games twenty four to ten, if Dart has a
[31:36] Speaker 1: couple JJ type moments, or even kleb type moments where
[31:39] Speaker 1: he scrambles around makes a sweet throw. People get off
[31:42] Speaker 1: your back, people start supporting you, especially when it gets
[31:46] Speaker 1: out because all the reports are Dable and Dart are
[31:50] Speaker 1: like this. I heard Jordan Renan say this my guy
[31:52] Speaker 1: that covers the New York Giants. When I was in Philly,
[31:55] Speaker 1: he was covering the Eagles. Then he's been on covering
[31:58] Speaker 1: this team for a long time. On Instagram. Within the
[32:01] Speaker 1: last week he was doing like a radio hit or
[32:03] Speaker 1: maybe his podcast, and he said, when you go to practice,
[32:06] Speaker 1: there's Jamis and Russell and they're usually throwing doing stuff,
[32:10] Speaker 1: and then there's Brian day Ball walking side by side,
[32:13] Speaker 1: stride by stride with Jackson Dart like he's his little
[32:16] Speaker 1: puppy duck. And so you're tied to this guy. But
[32:21] Speaker 1: the way these marriages become a divorce is you lose
[32:25] Speaker 1: enough games. It just gets ugly and it gets convoluted
[32:29] Speaker 1: and all of a sudden it's like, well I'm fired.
[32:31] Speaker 1: It's like, well that was my guy. Well, yeah, you
[32:33] Speaker 1: only saw him play ten games and your team was
[32:36] Speaker 1: already so bad by then, so I would get him
[32:39] Speaker 1: in way sooner than later. So when I see that
[32:42] Speaker 1: he comes out and says that Russell Wilson are starting quarterback.
[32:45] Speaker 1: I think that's a bad move. And so the opponent's
[32:48] Speaker 1: this the schedule, It's like, yeah, it's the NFL. It's hard,
[32:51] Speaker 1: whether you're on the road, whether you're away, whether you're
[32:53] Speaker 1: playing the Jags, or whether you're playing the Chiefs. All
[32:55] Speaker 1: these games are hard. And any guy on the other team,
[32:58] Speaker 1: they get paid a lot of money, They drive big
[33:00] Speaker 1: as cars, and they live in big homes as well,
[33:02] Speaker 1: So you're gonna have to He's gonna have to play
[33:05] Speaker 1: a tough opponent no matter what he comes from. The SEC.
[33:08] Speaker 1: He wasn't playing at UC Davis. You know, this guy's
[33:11] Speaker 1: used to playing some tough defensive players. So I think
[33:14] Speaker 1: it'll be okay. And last but not least, I actually
[33:19] Speaker 1: had the audio. It's, you know, the one cool part
[33:23] Speaker 1: about having four box games. Even if you have two
[33:27] Speaker 1: TVs and you got like six or eight games going
[33:29] Speaker 1: at one time, you keep track, even though it is difficult.
[33:33] Speaker 1: You can follow a lot, but you can only listen
[33:36] Speaker 1: to one audio, right. You can't have all eight going.
[33:39] Speaker 1: You can't even have two going, so you basically have
[33:41] Speaker 1: to pick one audio and for most of at least
[33:45] Speaker 1: I would say sixty seventy percent of the morning I
[33:49] Speaker 1: had on Kevin Burkhart and Tom Brady. And I was
[33:52] Speaker 1: pretty critical of Tom Brady last year, even though probably
[33:56] Speaker 1: unfair given the first time he's ever called games. But
[33:59] Speaker 1: part of that is the expectation and get paid four
[34:01] Speaker 1: hundred million dollars. Our expectations were high, especially because your
[34:05] Speaker 1: teammates are so famous. All I've ever heard for twenty
[34:10] Speaker 1: years like this is the coolest dude ever. Everyone loves
[34:14] Speaker 1: this guy. He can relate to the star player, to
[34:17] Speaker 1: the owner, to the practice squad guy. I've never heard
[34:19] Speaker 1: of bad things said about him. I've never heard and
[34:21] Speaker 1: I've known countless guys that have played with Tom Brady
[34:24] Speaker 1: and everyone speaks about him. I'd say the same thing
[34:27] Speaker 1: about Philip Rivers. There are certain quarterbacks Matt Stafford, Peyton Manning.
[34:31] Speaker 1: You're just gonna struggle to find anyone, whether they were
[34:34] Speaker 1: a highly paid guy or like a fringe practice squad
[34:37] Speaker 1: guy for a couple of years ago that serviced them
[34:39] Speaker 1: in practice bad amount. These guys because they're just they're
[34:43] Speaker 1: very relatable and good with people. That's what you have
[34:46] Speaker 1: to be as a quarterback natural leader. Well, being a
[34:48] Speaker 1: leader is like being able to resonate and deal with
[34:51] Speaker 1: different guys. And in the NFL you got guys from
[34:54] Speaker 1: all over the country, all different backgrounds, and obviously all
[34:57] Speaker 1: different economic statuses. When they're in the NFL, some guys
[35:00] Speaker 1: are making not much relative to other guys making millions
[35:03] Speaker 1: upon millions of dollars. And Tom was just it was,
[35:07] Speaker 1: it was rough. I watched him, he felt a lot
[35:09] Speaker 1: more comfortable. And obviously the where I went to school
[35:14] Speaker 1: at cal polyly the motto is learned by doing, And
[35:18] Speaker 1: while it is kind of cheesy, it does suit me.
[35:20] Speaker 1: Some people can learn by just studying a textbook and
[35:24] Speaker 1: go and take a test. I was a terrible standardized
[35:27] Speaker 1: test taker. I'm not great. Academia didn't serve me great
[35:31] Speaker 1: because sitting me at a desk and showing me power
[35:33] Speaker 1: points and then just having me regurgitate that I check
[35:36] Speaker 1: out two minutes in. But when I do something hands on,
[35:40] Speaker 1: whatever that may be, it gives me a way better
[35:42] Speaker 1: opportunity to learn. So I've been doing podcasts and I've
[35:45] Speaker 1: been doing radio now for a decade. And the more
[35:48] Speaker 1: you do anything, the more comfortable you get. I've never
[35:51] Speaker 1: done national TV, but I went and did colin this
[35:53] Speaker 1: summer and it wasn't intimidating. Why because I've been talking
[35:56] Speaker 1: about this stuff with a mic or a you know,
[35:59] Speaker 1: an ear whatever in the local level, national level. It
[36:03] Speaker 1: just becomes easier the more you do it. And listen
[36:05] Speaker 1: to Tom Brady, like, is he Trey Aikman? No, Treykman's
[36:08] Speaker 1: been doing it for twenty five years. But did he
[36:11] Speaker 1: sound more comfortable in the booth? He did? And like, hell,
[36:14] Speaker 1: I was listening to JJ Watt, who sounded a little
[36:17] Speaker 1: green now in fairness first game he's doing. Now. I
[36:20] Speaker 1: struggle like personally what I like in my broadcaster. You know,
[36:24] Speaker 1: whatever a broadcaster says, you know, it's gonna be very
[36:26] Speaker 1: hard for me to be critical. It's like, well, no
[36:29] Speaker 1: one's expecting you to be like Steven A or Skip Bayless.
[36:32] Speaker 1: You don't just need a shit on everyone every play.
[36:35] Speaker 1: But like, there's millions of people watching, and when something
[36:38] Speaker 1: really stupid happens, you kind of got to embrace it
[36:41] Speaker 1: and listen. You know, JJ's calling his brother's game. Kind
[36:44] Speaker 1: of a weird spot, but it was a very positive broadcast.
[36:47] Speaker 1: You know, I lean like I like my broadcast to
[36:50] Speaker 1: let some singers go. Aikman's a little more my style.
[36:54] Speaker 1: Collinsworth is. You know, he's just good at his job,
[36:57] Speaker 1: pretty positive, upbeat guy. But there's a different strug for
[37:00] Speaker 1: different folks. I do think whatever version of Brady that
[37:04] Speaker 1: he was on Sunday and just can be moving forward.
[37:09] Speaker 1: He's never gonna be John Madden or John Rude. I
[37:11] Speaker 1: wouldn't call him like an entertainer, but he could just
[37:15] Speaker 1: be a functional Obviously, he's really famous. Guy knows his shit,
[37:20] Speaker 1: knows all these guys can just be solid. Because someone
[37:22] Speaker 1: tweeted at me like it's like Jason Garrett two point zero, No,
[37:27] Speaker 1: Tom is way way. Jason Garrett's the worst broadcaster, worst
[37:32] Speaker 1: guy on television. When it comes to the NFL games,
[37:35] Speaker 1: And when NBC comes up and you see his smile
[37:39] Speaker 1: ear to ear and that redhead, you just want to
[37:42] Speaker 1: throw something into television. You're like, in what world did
[37:46] Speaker 1: this NBC executive tell themselves that America wants to see
[37:50] Speaker 1: this individual? I can't get over it. But they view
[37:54] Speaker 1: Jason Garrett as a star and he's terrible. And even
[37:57] Speaker 1: Drew Brees I saw he was saying that he got
[38:00] Speaker 1: the opportunity to call games, he'd be a top three guy.
[38:03] Speaker 1: It's like Drew, we heard you last year, a couple
[38:05] Speaker 1: of years ago. It wasn't great, you know. I mean,
[38:08] Speaker 1: we've heard enough guys not saying you can't improve, you
[38:11] Speaker 1: can't be better, but top three guy, like, no, I
[38:14] Speaker 1: bought the brakes. Everybody, it's this, this is entertainment and
[38:17] Speaker 1: that's the one thing Brady can he Ever, it's probably
[38:20] Speaker 1: hard because he doesn't want to throw in an F
[38:22] Speaker 1: word or something. Just kind of balance the football knower,
[38:26] Speaker 1: the guy that knows coaches and the players are all
[38:29] Speaker 1: texting them and he just knows his shit to then
[38:32] Speaker 1: also be like the guys guy and that's what you know,
[38:34] Speaker 1: the Maddens, the Grudens, they were just great entertainers. And
[38:40] Speaker 1: it's hard. It's it's why most, let's face it, most broadcasts,
[38:44] Speaker 1: if you're just clicking around the audio on and I'm
[38:47] Speaker 1: not acting like it's easy, like I have no I
[38:50] Speaker 1: respect the profession. People go, would you ever want to No,
[38:54] Speaker 1: I have no desire to do it. One. It's not
[38:57] Speaker 1: even fun to me, and I'm it is difficult. But
[39:01] Speaker 1: it's why when guys are good, they really really stand
[39:05] Speaker 1: out because you can balance kind of like having fun
[39:08] Speaker 1: but knowing your stuff, or are you just very comfortable
[39:11] Speaker 1: in your own skin? Like Aikman's pretty serious, but he'll
[39:14] Speaker 1: let a rip, you know, And he's one of the
[39:16] Speaker 1: few and honestly might be the only guy that will
[39:19] Speaker 1: be really really critical of coaches and players. But for
[39:22] Speaker 1: the most cart player like, you drop the ball, you
[39:24] Speaker 1: drop a ball, You know, what are you gonna say? Ceede, lamb,
[39:26] Speaker 1: he dropped another ball? Okay, Like, what do you want
[39:28] Speaker 1: to do? Cut him? I mean, he's one of the
[39:29] Speaker 1: best receivers in the league. Drop balls. It happens. Terrell
[39:32] Speaker 1: Owens didn't have great hands. Not everyone's Marvin Harrison, right,
[39:35] Speaker 1: Jerry Rice? Like, I mean, guys drop the ball. Fumbles,
[39:38] Speaker 1: they happen. Now you're gonna cut it tomorrow? Well, if
[39:40] Speaker 1: you started running BA, you're probably not going to. So
[39:43] Speaker 1: I think a lot of these guys, when they get
[39:45] Speaker 1: into it, they feel like we don't want to be critical.
[39:47] Speaker 1: Like I think you guys watch probably too much Internet
[39:51] Speaker 1: and too much like first take clips. That's not what
[39:54] Speaker 1: people expect. But when a coach says something stupid, you
[39:58] Speaker 1: can blast the coach and you should feel more room
[40:02] Speaker 1: to blast the coach than the players, because, let's face it,
[40:05] Speaker 1: a lot of the coaches you're either a coaching are
[40:07] Speaker 1: allowed to happen, right, So it's like Caleb to Night,
[40:10] Speaker 1: Was that on Caleb or is that on Ben Johnson?
[40:13] Speaker 1: Those questions are only going to a rise. I'll promise
[40:15] Speaker 1: you this. Ben Johnson is not gonna like it. Okay,
[40:31] Speaker 1: it's Monday. I thought, you know what, Let's do a
[40:33] Speaker 1: little mail bag at John Middlecoff at John Middlecoff Instagram,
[40:36] Speaker 1: fire and those dms. Get your questions answered here on
[40:39] Speaker 1: the show. We will start with Michael. If Daniel Jones
[40:44] Speaker 1: continues to play like he did against Miami, do you
[40:48] Speaker 1: think that could influence the Giants to fire day ball
[40:51] Speaker 1: or maybe influence him to start dart earlier than expected
[40:55] Speaker 1: to help save his job. Well, he played Denver this week,
[40:59] Speaker 1: which I think is on the opposite end of Miami.
[41:02] Speaker 1: In terms of defense, Miami is a joke defensively, I
[41:05] Speaker 1: mean their corners. It's like, I mean, I don't even
[41:10] Speaker 1: think some of these guys would start on the best
[41:11] Speaker 1: defenses in college. I mean, it's pretty embarrassing. So going
[41:15] Speaker 1: against Denver is a completely different animal. And I'm not
[41:18] Speaker 1: gonna live on a weekly basis if I'm Giants' ownership.
[41:22] Speaker 1: If i'm I would say the coach or the GM
[41:25] Speaker 1: of the Giants like they made their decision, it was
[41:28] Speaker 1: the right decision when they cut them like it was
[41:30] Speaker 1: because he didn't. You know, the divorce made sense now
[41:34] Speaker 1: if you want to rewind it to the contract. Who
[41:37] Speaker 1: was behind the contract, who wanted the contract? Was that
[41:40] Speaker 1: led by ownership, which by all accounts it was. I
[41:43] Speaker 1: think there are a lot of variables here. But unless
[41:46] Speaker 1: the guy like like what Saquon did last year Super
[41:49] Speaker 1: Bowl two K number one player in the league, non quarterback,
[41:55] Speaker 1: that would look bad. But he's not gonna do that.
[41:57] Speaker 1: He was always gonna beat out Anthony Rigson dramatically better
[42:00] Speaker 1: than Anthony Richardson. So I honestly, I think it's a
[42:02] Speaker 1: bigger indictment on Anthony Richardson than it is on the Giants.
[42:06] Speaker 1: So I guess that's a long winded way of saying
[42:09] Speaker 1: I don't think it has much impact. With the Dolphins
[42:12] Speaker 1: looking like an absolute disaster. Do you think there is
[42:16] Speaker 1: any chance of a Baseball like fire sale where the
[42:20] Speaker 1: Fins trade offs a significant number of vets. Ed Rusher, Phillips,
[42:24] Speaker 1: Judon Chubb, a Chan Hill, Waddle are all positions of
[42:29] Speaker 1: needs for various contenders. Why don't more NFL teams make
[42:33] Speaker 1: significant roster reductions at the deadline like we see in
[42:37] Speaker 1: Major League Baseball or the NBA. I think the best
[42:43] Speaker 1: way I guess to approach it is in baseball A
[42:47] Speaker 1: lot of times, right, if I'm selling a guy, typically,
[42:51] Speaker 1: I'm like, the Pirates aren't gonna sell Paul Skins until
[42:55] Speaker 1: they have to pay him five hundred million dollars. Right
[42:57] Speaker 1: in football, I can pay whoever I want the lowest
[43:00] Speaker 1: quote unquote money teams relative to the quote unquote rich teams.
[43:05] Speaker 1: Everyone has money to pay their players. So if I
[43:08] Speaker 1: like Jalen Waddle, I've already paid Jalen Waddle, I want
[43:11] Speaker 1: Jalen Wattle on my roster if I'm gonna fire everybody
[43:14] Speaker 1: because the new coach is gonna want to work.
[43:15] Speaker 2: With that guy.
[43:17] Speaker 1: Same thing you know in theory with Chubb or some
[43:19] Speaker 1: of these guys. Now, like Tyreek Hill, what's his value?
[43:23] Speaker 1: I think it's it would vary team to team. I mean,
[43:26] Speaker 1: there are teams that are just not gonna mess with them. Now, like,
[43:29] Speaker 1: would Andy ever go down that road? I would guess no,
[43:32] Speaker 1: would the Bills. They need defense, so who's really messing
[43:38] Speaker 1: with him? The pass rushers and defensive lineman for sure.
[43:43] Speaker 1: But I just don't think that's how teams really think.
[43:46] Speaker 1: Occasionally like a fire sale with a veteran player. Remember
[43:50] Speaker 1: when they traded Von Miller, But that was because they
[43:52] Speaker 1: weren't going to resign him. So I think teams go,
[43:55] Speaker 1: we want to have assets on our team, And why
[43:59] Speaker 1: am I gonna Jalen Waddle, Who's one of the best
[44:01] Speaker 1: players on my team. If the best offers I'm getting
[44:04] Speaker 1: are like third round picks, even if I'm getting second
[44:07] Speaker 1: round picks. I drafted the guy high, he's been really productive,
[44:10] Speaker 1: why am I just giving him away to someone else?
[44:13] Speaker 1: So I don't need the cap flexibility. I want to
[44:16] Speaker 1: have good players on my team. So I think in
[44:19] Speaker 1: baseball it typically has to do with money. In basketball,
[44:27] Speaker 1: it doesn't happen as much as he used to, really,
[44:29] Speaker 1: unless the guy demands a trade. Question. After last night,
[44:33] Speaker 1: can the media and the talking heads finally have a
[44:35] Speaker 1: conversation about John Harbaugh. I've been saying for three years
[44:40] Speaker 1: we outplay the best teams, but get out coached every
[44:43] Speaker 1: single time. After last night and the other countless games
[44:47] Speaker 1: we've lost like this, I don't understand how he couldn't
[44:51] Speaker 1: be on the hot seat. I get it, it's week
[44:54] Speaker 1: one and it sounds like an overreaction, but a lot
[44:57] Speaker 1: of our fan base has been tired of Harball. Just
[45:01] Speaker 1: go on a Ravens page after a game, or go
[45:03] Speaker 1: to a Ravens game, and people are tired of him.
[45:06] Speaker 1: And just one quick example from last night, the offensive
[45:09] Speaker 1: drive where we could have ended the game, How is
[45:12] Speaker 1: a head coach? Are you okay with the play calling sequence?
[45:15] Speaker 1: A jet sweep on second and ten? When you run
[45:18] Speaker 1: that play four fucking times already, you got guys crowded
[45:21] Speaker 1: in the box? Unreal? Well, he's not the offensive play caller,
[45:26] Speaker 1: So that is where the CEO head coach sometimes, you know.
[45:32] Speaker 1: And he's a defensive guy. Listen. His resume speaks for itself.
[45:37] Speaker 1: He's won a lot of games. But I think we
[45:39] Speaker 1: need to now ask ourselves, like, they have an all
[45:43] Speaker 1: time great quarterback, they have an all time great organization.
[45:46] Speaker 1: Their team is always loaded. Like you're watching him last night,
[45:49] Speaker 1: You're like, God, they got good players everywhere even the
[45:52] Speaker 1: first round are a couple of years ago from Clemson Wiggins.
[45:54] Speaker 1: It's like they drafted that guy at the end of
[45:56] Speaker 1: the first round and he's just making plays out there
[46:00] Speaker 1: at dB. I mean, every single time they draft guys,
[46:03] Speaker 1: they're just good. So he has an organization that drafts
[46:07] Speaker 1: players at an extremely high level. They hit a home
[46:10] Speaker 1: run with the quarterback even making moves like Derrick Henry,
[46:14] Speaker 1: and it just goes like, how are they not winning.
[46:16] Speaker 2: A Super Bowl?
[46:17] Speaker 1: And I'm not betting on them to win a super
[46:19] Speaker 1: Bowl just because something about their organization. It's like losing
[46:24] Speaker 1: that game last night is kind of symbolic of the
[46:27] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh Lamar Jackson experience. Now you ain't firing Lamar Jackson.
[46:32] Speaker 1: My question is this, and this is where I think
[46:34] Speaker 1: these teams getting tough a tough spot. Let's say you
[46:37] Speaker 1: win thirteen games and you get knocked out in the
[46:40] Speaker 1: second round, the Bills, the Chiefs, whoever beat you. Who
[46:45] Speaker 1: are you hiring? Because I think that's always the pushback
[46:49] Speaker 1: is like who are you hiring? Because if I fire
[46:52] Speaker 1: John Harbaugh, what is the landscape of coaches last year?
[46:57] Speaker 1: Like are you firing John Harbaugh for Mike a probably
[47:00] Speaker 1: not very similar guys. I would say they kind of
[47:04] Speaker 1: carbon copy of the type coach, right, Ben Johnson, though
[47:09] Speaker 1: wagonet Ben Johnson with Lamar Jackson, I would have done that. Now,
[47:12] Speaker 1: you're not gonna fire him last year, But I think
[47:15] Speaker 1: that's the question you have to ask before we just
[47:18] Speaker 1: fire him, because you're not just gonna blindly fire John Harbaugh.
[47:22] Speaker 1: But that loss, and they had some of them last year.
[47:26] Speaker 1: You know, he's a defensive, tough guy, and sometimes their
[47:29] Speaker 1: teams just kind of fall apart. Now, I don't put
[47:31] Speaker 1: Dereck Henry fumbling on him. And you know, sometimes great
[47:35] Speaker 1: offense beats great defense nowadays in the NFL because of
[47:39] Speaker 1: the rules, right, I think the Ravens are pretty good
[47:42] Speaker 1: on defense, but there are certain rules and limitations that
[47:45] Speaker 1: you can't just decapitate people like you could back in
[47:47] Speaker 1: the day, So it makes comebacks more possible a lot
[47:50] Speaker 1: like in the NBA with a three point shot. You know,
[47:53] Speaker 1: I think in like two thousand and seven, you would
[47:57] Speaker 1: just be so physical that the Josh Allen they couldn't
[48:00] Speaker 1: have come back. But nowadays the rules on the side
[48:03] Speaker 1: of offense and just naturally sometimes teams let their guard down.
[48:07] Speaker 1: But he's going to become a really polarizing coach like
[48:11] Speaker 1: Sean mcdermals is pretty polarizing. And they're basically doing the
[48:15] Speaker 1: same thing. And if we just basically, well, you won
[48:17] Speaker 1: a Super Bowl, Well, yeah, back in twenty twelve. It's
[48:20] Speaker 1: twenty twenty five, twenty twelve. I works for the Philadelphia Eagles.
[48:26] Speaker 1: That was a long time ago, right, Think about what
[48:28] Speaker 1: you were doing in twenty twelve, some people, if you're
[48:31] Speaker 1: like twenty five, I mean, that would have been what
[48:34] Speaker 1: thirteen years you were like twelve years old. Didn't you
[48:38] Speaker 1: even have a hair on your arms or on your nuts.
[48:42] Speaker 1: I'm currently watching the Dolphins get boat raced by the Colts.
[48:46] Speaker 1: I think it's inevitable that they trade Tyreek this season,
[48:48] Speaker 1: though I don't think they will be able to get
[48:51] Speaker 1: quite the Hall that some might think given his age
[48:53] Speaker 1: and contract. Let me emphasize that they will not get
[48:57] Speaker 1: a hole for Tyreek. They would just be giving him away.
[49:02] Speaker 1: With Worthy going down Week one, and the Chiefs obviously
[49:05] Speaker 1: still amongst the best in the AFC, but may need
[49:08] Speaker 1: a little boost with the wide receiver injury suspensions. What
[49:11] Speaker 1: percent odds do you see are an in season trade
[49:14] Speaker 1: of Tyreek. Going back to the Chiefs, what kind of
[49:17] Speaker 1: trade package would the Chiefs have to give up for
[49:20] Speaker 1: a year or two of Tyreek? You never know. Things change,
[49:26] Speaker 1: and anytime that you come up short in the Super Bowl,
[49:30] Speaker 1: I think I saw the headline today. Worthy as day
[49:32] Speaker 1: to day. So it's not like he's gonna miss a
[49:35] Speaker 1: month like George Kittle today the hamstring injury. He's gonna
[49:38] Speaker 1: be out a month, that's gonna be, that's gonna be
[49:39] Speaker 1: a minute. You know, by all accounts, Worthy is not
[49:42] Speaker 1: gonna miss that much time. I was told pretty reliably.
[49:47] Speaker 1: I had safe to say, I know a lot of
[49:48] Speaker 1: people there that that's never happening again. Now this was
[49:53] Speaker 1: I don't know, eight months ago, just because like going
[49:57] Speaker 1: into the offseason, I was starting to think, like, could
[49:59] Speaker 1: they Tyreek get traded? Could the Chiefs get him for
[50:01] Speaker 1: like a third or fourth round pick? And I think
[50:04] Speaker 1: that ship sailed by all accounts. Now, you can never
[50:06] Speaker 1: say never. Andy could change his mind. Veach has a
[50:11] Speaker 1: lot of influence. Maybe he could talk him into it.
[50:13] Speaker 1: Maybe Veach is not that interested. And so I would
[50:18] Speaker 1: as sitting here on September eighth, I would say that's
[50:22] Speaker 1: not happening question for the back from Gilbert Arizona. My neighbor,
[50:28] Speaker 1: my buddy and I were debating what's better to have
[50:31] Speaker 1: Andy Reid, Sean mcvicveay, Kyle Shanahaner or Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes,
[50:36] Speaker 1: Burrow or Lamar. If you're starting a team from scratch
[50:40] Speaker 1: and you have the number one pick in a complete
[50:43] Speaker 1: do over, in a complete doover for the league, so
[50:46] Speaker 1: players and coaches can be taken, do you take the
[50:49] Speaker 1: quarterback or a coach? With the number one pick, you
[50:52] Speaker 1: would take the quarterback. You would one million percent take
[50:56] Speaker 1: the quarterback. Now at what quarterback? Do you yet? Where
[51:00] Speaker 1: you go? I'd rather have Andy Reid, and I think
[51:02] Speaker 1: you're talking like six or seven because the list you
[51:06] Speaker 1: gave it would be Mahomes, Alan, Lamar, Burrow in some order.
[51:11] Speaker 1: I think a lot of people would take Josh Allen
[51:13] Speaker 1: number one, but Mahomes. I think in everyone's order it
[51:19] Speaker 1: would go somewhat Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes or Patrick Mahomes
[51:23] Speaker 1: Josh Allen. Then I think Lamar and Burrow depending on
[51:27] Speaker 1: what type. I guess who's making this pick, a GM
[51:30] Speaker 1: or an owner because Lamar easily could go three, but
[51:34] Speaker 1: I think there would be some people taking Burrow, but regardless,
[51:36] Speaker 1: they would go four. I think Herbert and Jayden Daniels
[51:39] Speaker 1: in some order would go five and six. I think
[51:42] Speaker 1: once you got past them, it's like, would I rather
[51:46] Speaker 1: have Andy Reid or C. J. Strout. I'd rather have
[51:48] Speaker 1: Andy Reid? Would I rather have Kyle Shanahan or C. J.
[51:51] Speaker 2: Stratt.
[51:51] Speaker 1: I'd rather have Andy Reid, Dak Prescott, Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts,
[51:56] Speaker 1: Like would I rather have Jalen Hurts or Andy Reid?
[51:59] Speaker 1: Come on, Andy Reid, so as it shows you like
[52:03] Speaker 1: these guys. Jalen Hurts has won Super Bowl, played really well,
[52:06] Speaker 1: so I think that line gets drawn pretty quick. It's
[52:10] Speaker 1: only the quarterback quarterbacks that I know. One carry a coach.
[52:14] Speaker 1: If you need coaching with your quarterback like Jared Goff,
[52:18] Speaker 1: Jordan Love, all those type guys, I'm going coach because
[52:22] Speaker 1: would I rather have like Andy Reid with Dak Prescott,
[52:25] Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan with Brock Purty, or would I rather have
[52:29] Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts and Zach Taylor. The question was pre Chargers
[52:34] Speaker 1: game might not be the year for Kansas City. As
[52:37] Speaker 1: a Kansas City resident and fan. I'm devastated. Listen, they
[52:42] Speaker 1: played in that game a million times last year. Everyone
[52:45] Speaker 1: I've seen talk about that game going God, they just
[52:50] Speaker 1: didn't look that good. They kind of looked like they
[52:52] Speaker 1: did last year, like that's how they played. They're comfortable
[52:55] Speaker 1: in that environment. Now their defense was getting shredded. Not ideal.
[53:00] Speaker 1: I also think they don't you know, the way they
[53:02] Speaker 1: operate in the preseason. He gets after it. They're big
[53:05] Speaker 1: on peaking in November and December. Are you're probably gonna
[53:09] Speaker 1: win the Super Bowl? Odds would be stacked against you.
[53:11] Speaker 1: You're gonna make your six Super Bowl in seven years
[53:14] Speaker 1: or whatever? Probably not, but you're gonna be You're gonna
[53:16] Speaker 1: be good. You're gonna be okay. Coachings do good. Big
[53:20] Speaker 1: game this week. I think it's pretty insane that they're
[53:22] Speaker 1: an underdog at home against the Eagles.
[53:25] Speaker 2: That's pretty crazy.
[53:26] Speaker 1: I would expect the Chiefs to come out and play
[53:28] Speaker 1: pretty well. I like the Chiefs in that game. With
[53:32] Speaker 1: the NFL expanding and going more global than ever, do
[53:36] Speaker 1: you think there will ever be a time where there
[53:38] Speaker 1: is an eighteen game schedule with one international game every week.
[53:42] Speaker 1: If so, where could it end? Could there be could
[53:46] Speaker 1: there ever be an International super Bowl? Just curious in
[53:49] Speaker 1: your thoughts. I've been asked this question before. I do
[53:53] Speaker 1: think it's inevitable. When we get to eighteen games, there's
[53:55] Speaker 1: gonna be an international package. So basically like Thursday Night
[53:59] Speaker 1: Football starts this week and goes to like Christmas, so
[54:02] Speaker 1: basically every team. It used to be every team had
[54:04] Speaker 1: to play on Thursday Night Football. Now you can get
[54:07] Speaker 1: doubled up because of TV ratings. I do think it's
[54:10] Speaker 1: inevitable in the new television deal that starting week two
[54:13] Speaker 1: or week three up until probably a week before Christmas,
[54:17] Speaker 1: every team will play an international series. Now, the difference
[54:21] Speaker 1: between the international series and Thursday Night games. You know,
[54:23] Speaker 1: a team like Jacksonville or just Miami, whoever, East Coast
[54:28] Speaker 1: teams in London, in Germany and whatever could double up
[54:32] Speaker 1: and play back to back home games. But I do
[54:36] Speaker 1: think that the next television set up, however, that when
[54:39] Speaker 1: I say deal, I mean it's YouTube had seventeen million
[54:43] Speaker 1: people watching the game. What game would that have been?
[54:47] Speaker 1: That was a Chiefs game. Thursday Night Football had like
[54:51] Speaker 1: thirty million people, and that was down because there was
[54:53] Speaker 1: a big rain delay for an hour. Don't blame anyone
[54:55] Speaker 1: for turn it off. I would say this that, however, PLA,
[55:00] Speaker 1: he's out with Netflix, Amazon, Fox, ABCCBS a lot of
[55:04] Speaker 1: moving parts. Obviously, I think we get for fifteen straight
[55:09] Speaker 1: weeks a six thirty Pacific Standard time kickoff, which, as
[55:13] Speaker 1: someone on the West Coast I listen, I like getting
[55:16] Speaker 1: up Sunday morning. Now that you know, I've actually really
[55:20] Speaker 1: morphed as I've gotten older, Like I don't do anything
[55:22] Speaker 1: on Saturday night anymore. Those days are over because Sunday
[55:25] Speaker 1: is just too long of a day. I got to
[55:27] Speaker 1: be clear headed. I can't be hungover at all. So
[55:30] Speaker 1: I basically treat it like most human beings would treat
[55:32] Speaker 1: a Monday. And I'm out of bed at like six fifteen,
[55:35] Speaker 1: six thirty and try to be at the gym by
[55:37] Speaker 1: seven seven thirty, and because I want to do some
[55:40] Speaker 1: physical activity before I'm just sitting all day, which again
[55:44] Speaker 1: I'm not complaining about making money off watching football, but
[55:48] Speaker 1: like when you just sit on your couch for essentially
[55:51] Speaker 1: nine hours and do multiple podcasts, I gotta do some
[55:54] Speaker 1: activity in the morning, and I don't really have time
[55:56] Speaker 1: during the day because football's on, So I don't want
[55:59] Speaker 1: that morning game. Now, maybe I wouldn't even care anyway,
[56:01] Speaker 1: because sometimes they're on I'm not even paying attention. But
[56:04] Speaker 1: I do think it's inevitable, and I don't know if
[56:06] Speaker 1: that's what people want. But I don't want to speak
[56:09] Speaker 1: for everyone else because I'll tell you where I stand
[56:11] Speaker 1: on the Monday night doubleheader. I guess I understand it
[56:16] Speaker 1: from they can accumulate more total viewers. But I've thought
[56:20] Speaker 1: a huge part of about playing a primetime game Thursday night,
[56:23] Speaker 1: Sunday night, Monday night is getting it to yourself. That's
[56:26] Speaker 1: a really, really big deal. It used to be a
[56:29] Speaker 1: really big deal when I was at Fresne State that
[56:32] Speaker 1: the Mountain West Conference or the Whack Conference at the
[56:34] Speaker 1: time had contracts with ESPN for Friday night games. So
[56:38] Speaker 1: you would get a Friday night game against Boise, against
[56:40] Speaker 1: Nevada or whatever, and you were the only game on television.
[56:43] Speaker 1: So it was a really big selling point. It's like, hey,
[56:45] Speaker 1: we're just the only football game Friday night on television
[56:48] Speaker 1: around the country.
[56:49] Speaker 2: Well, that's clearly over.
[57:04] Speaker 1: Coming off the calf scare. Did you see Kyle run
[57:07] Speaker 1: CMC twenty two times and target him nine times in
[57:11] Speaker 1: the passing game? It's the most touches he's gotten since
[57:15] Speaker 1: Week fifteen in twenty twenty two. Does the guy even
[57:20] Speaker 1: make it to October? I know that was Robinson's first
[57:23] Speaker 1: game and his usage will go up, but holy shit, man,
[57:26] Speaker 1: do you think Kyle makes the same mistakes again driving
[57:28] Speaker 1: him into the ground. I sometimes the Niners can be
[57:31] Speaker 1: weird with injuries. Obviously they get injured a lot. But
[57:35] Speaker 1: for him to leave practice on Thursday and then Friday,
[57:38] Speaker 1: not really do anything, but then be interviewed after practice
[57:42] Speaker 1: on Friday and say I'm completely fine, and then like
[57:45] Speaker 1: you say, I mean, he counted for almost one hundred
[57:48] Speaker 1: and fifty yards in the passing game and in the
[57:49] Speaker 1: running game, and he has just taken shot after shot.
[57:53] Speaker 1: Kyle's not a big spread the wealth around. And I
[57:56] Speaker 1: appreciate Brian Robinson. I definitely liked him a couple of
[57:58] Speaker 1: years ago, and I'm not gonna make any overarching judgments
[58:02] Speaker 1: based on one performance. He looked a little slow to me.
[58:06] Speaker 1: I don't know if they traded for him to motivate
[58:08] Speaker 1: their other guy, Grendo, because Grendo last year, toward the
[58:10] Speaker 1: end of the season was coming on. He's a Blazer.
[58:12] Speaker 1: The big running back from Louisville, but they clearly just
[58:16] Speaker 1: traded for Brian Robinson immediately made him the two. I
[58:18] Speaker 1: thought there was one play on like a it was
[58:21] Speaker 1: like a pitch play where Trent Williams pulls. He's like
[58:24] Speaker 1: a left tackle and he pulls like basically kind of
[58:27] Speaker 1: like runs a loop toward the dB slash safety and
[58:31] Speaker 1: if Brian Robinson could cut it inside, he would have
[58:34] Speaker 1: been like a forty yard game. McCaffrey would have busted
[58:37] Speaker 1: out a big run. But he's ran into Trent who's
[58:39] Speaker 1: literally blocking the dB or safety into the like into
[58:44] Speaker 1: the water cooler. I mean he runs into him. So
[58:46] Speaker 1: wasn't that impressed. Again, Game one wins a win, but
[58:51] Speaker 1: their backup running back situation is atrocious. I understand the
[58:55] Speaker 1: criticism against the Patriots. They looked terrible in the second half. However,
[58:59] Speaker 1: I think putting too much blame on Drake May. He
[59:02] Speaker 1: threw forty six passes and in the first half they
[59:05] Speaker 1: were letting him throw ten to twenty yards down the field.
[59:08] Speaker 1: I think the bigger problem was their inability to run
[59:10] Speaker 1: the ball. For most of the second half. Henderson had
[59:14] Speaker 1: five carries that won't cut it. I think it's impossible
[59:17] Speaker 1: for young quarterbacks to succeed when the team abandons the run. Also,
[59:22] Speaker 1: the secondary was horrendous. Listen, here's what I'll say about
[59:26] Speaker 1: Drake May. He just didn't pass the eye test yesterday.
[59:30] Speaker 1: It doesn't mean he sucks. It doesn't mean that it
[59:33] Speaker 1: wasn't just an outlier bad game. My expectations were higher.
[59:38] Speaker 1: But I also said yesterday that I have just assumed
[59:43] Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels is a good play caller like Sean McVay,
[59:49] Speaker 1: Kevin O'Connell, Kyle Laflor. We have seen those guys work
[59:52] Speaker 1: with countless different quarterbacks, kind of tweaked their offense, change stuff,
[59:56] Speaker 1: make things happen. What if Josh McDaniels is only good
[1:00:00] Speaker 1: with Tom Brady, but if that's the only way he
[1:00:03] Speaker 1: can operate, that's very possible, right. And Drake May's downfall
[1:00:13] Speaker 1: might be that he got Josh mcganial's forced on him,
[1:00:15] Speaker 1: because let's be real, that wasn't Rabel's guy. That was
[1:00:19] Speaker 1: the Crafts And part of getting a job like Mike
[1:00:22] Speaker 1: got is like you're not gonna battle the owner in
[1:00:25] Speaker 1: the quote unquote boss on everything. Some things you give
[1:00:28] Speaker 1: in on, and it's like who were his options. He
[1:00:31] Speaker 1: couldn't get Arthur Smith, he couldn't get some of his guys.
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: So he's like, yeah, we'll just it's in theory, it
[1:00:36] Speaker 1: makes some sense. But what if Drake too much is
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: on his plate. He just there's something like, I don't
[1:00:44] Speaker 1: want to say unnatural, but something was just missing. Again,
[1:00:48] Speaker 1: doesn't define his career. My expectations for him might have
[1:00:52] Speaker 1: been unfairly high. But I just saw a guy that
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: just wasn't like a little robotic, wasn't that fluid making play,
[1:01:00] Speaker 1: just looked a little out of sorts. Now he doesn't
[1:01:03] Speaker 1: have the most talented group around him. As someone DM me.
[1:01:07] Speaker 1: Will Campbell looked like a tiny little dude getting smoked.
[1:01:11] Speaker 1: Now he was banged up too, But yeah, I mean
[1:01:15] Speaker 1: the Raiders worked him. I mean, think about it, and
[1:01:17] Speaker 1: Colin and I talked about this. The Raiders have the
[1:01:20] Speaker 1: best player in the game. They had the second best
[1:01:21] Speaker 1: player in the game. They had the quarterback advantage, Like
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: Gino is a much better player right now than Drake
[1:01:27] Speaker 1: may Honestly, it's not even close. Raiders offensive line is
[1:01:31] Speaker 1: playing well. Raiders are just better coached. But I got
[1:01:36] Speaker 1: Chip Kelly out here scheming guys open left and right.
[1:01:39] Speaker 1: He hasn't worked in the NFL in forever. And Skinny
[1:01:42] Speaker 1: Josh the Patriot guys, I'll get on ozembic once you
[1:01:47] Speaker 1: know Patricia's on it. McDaniel's clearly on it. These guys
[1:01:52] Speaker 1: lose a ton of weight. Still can't call play. Patricia can,
[1:01:58] Speaker 1: but he's got a little easier at all House morning.
[1:02:02] Speaker 1: Maybe the Lions should try to snag Mike McDaniel for
[1:02:05] Speaker 1: the OC when he's fired. I feel like I'm beating
[1:02:10] Speaker 1: a dead horse here. I don't know the guy. This
[1:02:12] Speaker 1: is nothing against him personally, feels like football guys really
[1:02:17] Speaker 1: like him. But why would they never make Johnny Moore
[1:02:20] Speaker 1: in their offensive coordinator? Sean Payton loved him, John Gruden
[1:02:23] Speaker 1: loved him. Well, why didn't they make this guy their
[1:02:25] Speaker 1: offensive coordinator? Now he's fifty five and he takes over
[1:02:28] Speaker 1: this offense that everyone's like, oh, she's a loaded offense.
[1:02:32] Speaker 1: And he realized, well, they lost their center to a retirement,
[1:02:36] Speaker 1: they lost a guard to the Titans, so there's only
[1:02:39] Speaker 1: five guys on the offensive line. So I just removed
[1:02:42] Speaker 1: forty percent of it. And there was a big part
[1:02:44] Speaker 1: of like the ingenuity, creativity, and just instincts of Ben
[1:02:48] Speaker 1: Johnson that made the operation pretty special. Remember when they
[1:02:52] Speaker 1: did the fake fumble because Jordan Love against the Bears
[1:02:56] Speaker 1: tripped and fell and everyone froze and then he got
[1:02:58] Speaker 1: up and he threw the touchdown. And Ben Johnson tried to,
[1:03:02] Speaker 1: you know, replicate that same thing with Jared Goff and
[1:03:04] Speaker 1: he told him to fumble on purpose and then Gof's like, oh,
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: I can't fumble on purpose. He's like, well, can you
[1:03:09] Speaker 1: kind of fall halfway? And then kind of figured it out,
[1:03:11] Speaker 1: like is Johnny Morton bringing that to the table. And
[1:03:13] Speaker 1: here's the other thing whenever I hear because I saw
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: Dan Campbell say this in an interview sometime during training camp.
[1:03:20] Speaker 1: He was bragging and I don't mean this like he
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: wasn't trying to hype the guy up. He was just saying,
[1:03:26] Speaker 1: it's it's crazy how often Johnny Morton is in the facility,
[1:03:32] Speaker 1: essentially saying he's got like the Grudini him. He's there
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: at the crack of dawn, like, I do not care.
[1:03:38] Speaker 1: I have never once been told how many hours Ben
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: Johnson works. Probably works a lot, but it does not matter. Honestly,
[1:03:46] Speaker 1: Sometimes that scares me, Like you're not smart enough, Like
[1:03:49] Speaker 1: you're there at three am to twelve pm, are you
[1:03:51] Speaker 1: not good enough? Because if you're working that long at
[1:03:55] Speaker 1: this point in time in your career and not moving
[1:03:58] Speaker 1: up the ladder like I just got your red flat, Like,
[1:04:01] Speaker 1: I do think defensively they will be okay. We have
[1:04:05] Speaker 1: seen this transition. We saw in Baltimore high level defensive coordinator.
[1:04:10] Speaker 1: They go with the former player and it just takes
[1:04:13] Speaker 1: a little time, but it works out. So I do
[1:04:15] Speaker 1: think same type deal Aaron Glenn, who's also a former player,
[1:04:19] Speaker 1: that they go with the linebacker coach, former player. I
[1:04:22] Speaker 1: do think it's gonna be okay offensively though that is
[1:04:25] Speaker 1: not like because part of defense motivation, toughness, obviously you
[1:04:30] Speaker 1: got to have the schematics. But I think they'll be
[1:04:34] Speaker 1: okay offensively. I would be terrified. Do you think there's
[1:04:37] Speaker 1: a chance that Nick Saban would go to Florida in
[1:04:41] Speaker 1: light of Billy's struggles and inability to cement himself in
[1:04:44] Speaker 1: the program. I think Saban's done, you know. I think
[1:04:48] Speaker 1: the big difference for like Pete Carroll and obviously Bill,
[1:04:52] Speaker 1: if Atlanta would have hired him, I think, deep down,
[1:04:56] Speaker 1: like the business didn't change, so they just thought like, hey,
[1:05:00] Speaker 1: I ran Its course, I got fired. Whatever, I still
[1:05:02] Speaker 1: want to coach in the NFL. The salary cap trades
[1:05:06] Speaker 1: the draft like fair, not like they believe they can
[1:05:10] Speaker 1: do it. You know, Belichick believes it's funny. I had
[1:05:14] Speaker 1: so many people texting me like, do you think you
[1:05:17] Speaker 1: pissed them off? Like piss them off, guys. They're embracing this.
[1:05:21] Speaker 1: They hate Bill and Lombardi hate the NFL right now,
[1:05:25] Speaker 1: especially the Patriots. This was not some story. If I
[1:05:29] Speaker 1: had leaked let's say, like a month ago, and I'm not.
[1:05:32] Speaker 1: Let's say let's say I texted Howie. I'm like, hey,
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: you want Micah Parsons. He's like, yeah, I'm trying to
[1:05:37] Speaker 1: get him right now. Jerry will never trade him to us.
[1:05:40] Speaker 1: But I'm throwing some I'm throwing some stuff on the table.
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: I put aj Brown and two ones on the table.
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: I'm just let's just hypothetically. Obviously it didn't happen. But
[1:05:50] Speaker 1: let's say I just put that out there. Well, how
[1:05:53] Speaker 1: he would be furious. He's like, you can't I told
[1:05:55] Speaker 1: you that in confidence. This is not These people didn't
[1:05:58] Speaker 1: tell me this. This just Bill who hates the Patriots,
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: and every human knows. This isn't something people are trying
[1:06:05] Speaker 1: to hide. This isn't some under the wrap story. So
[1:06:09] Speaker 1: like Saban has said, like I don't like get l
[1:06:12] Speaker 1: This thing ain't fair, and I think the SEC programs
[1:06:16] Speaker 1: and he mentioned this on College Game Day are at
[1:06:18] Speaker 1: a disadvantage. It's why in theory, like North Carolina they
[1:06:21] Speaker 1: got some big pockets. But you know, is Belichick gonna
[1:06:25] Speaker 1: be a tightwad and not pay the guy's money. But
[1:06:27] Speaker 1: he's not coming back. I think Saban's retired for good.
[1:06:30] Speaker 1: Other than that, Yeah, we'll wrap up on that one.
[1:06:34] Speaker 1: So Billy Napier, start packing that office right now, Buddy.
[1:06:40] Speaker 1: The volume
