[0:03] Speaker 1: Very excited to say that Bud Light is the title
[0:05] Speaker 1: sponsor of the Colin Coward podcast this NFL season. This
[0:08] Speaker 1: podcast presented by Bud Light. Easy to drink, easy to enjoy.
[0:18] Speaker 1: All right.
[0:21] Speaker 2: The.
[0:22] Speaker 1: Ravens just beat the Cowboys on a walk-off 34-31 Tyler
[0:27] Speaker 1: loop in what was a wildly, wildly entertaining game for
[0:31] Speaker 1: the people, myself included, that say, why do you make
[0:34] Speaker 1: these teams go to Brazil? They're going to be fatigued.
[0:37] Speaker 1: That was great football. I thought the Cowboys had it
[0:41] Speaker 1: won twice. I thought the Ravens had it won three times.
[0:45] Speaker 1: Dallas didn't want to go to overtime. They had nobody
[0:48] Speaker 1: left in the secondary. I mean, again, you can nitpick everything.
[0:53] Speaker 1: I was okay. The ball was caught and Zay Flowers
[0:57] Speaker 1: was down with one second. Then you saw Lamar on
[1:00] Speaker 1: the other shot, slow-mo by CBS calling time.
[1:03] Speaker 3: So I was okay with that or you. Yeah, I
[1:06] Speaker 3: got no issue with it. My main issue is we
[1:09] Speaker 3: now start these drives at the 35.
[1:12] Speaker 1: So if you have a.
[1:13] Speaker 3: Kicker that has 60-ish range, which basically every kicker does,
[1:18] Speaker 3: I mean, he just hit it from 56, looked like
[1:19] Speaker 3: it would have been good from 75. You really just
[1:23] Speaker 3: need to hit one kind of chunk play 20 yards.
[1:27] Speaker 3: You and I are old enough to remember when most
[1:30] Speaker 3: late drives would start at the 20, the game was over.
[1:33] Speaker 1: It was done.
[1:34] Speaker 3: So now, and listen, I think the league kind of
[1:37] Speaker 3: likes this because you got to pay attention with 8, 9,
[1:40] Speaker 3: 10 seconds left. How many times, this is not the
[1:43] Speaker 3: first time we've seen this, you just have to hit
[1:46] Speaker 3: one big play. They don't always hit the field goal,
[1:48] Speaker 3: but you are on the edge of your seat and
[1:50] Speaker 3: you cannot... What were the Cowboys doing? Letting him go
[1:53] Speaker 3: right over the middle of the field. Wouldn't you take
[1:55] Speaker 3: away the middle of the field? Especially him, their best
[1:57] Speaker 3: wide receiver. I don't know. I mean, their drive also,
[2:01] Speaker 3: when they were at the goal line, what were a
[2:03] Speaker 3: couple of those pass plays?
[2:05] Speaker 1: Incomplete fade route, offsides, near sack, incompletion. The final one,
[2:09] Speaker 1: Dak was swearing. I don't know if it was miscommunication,
[2:12] Speaker 1: but he sailed it. That was a very weak effort. Listen,
[2:15] Speaker 1: both these teams had it won. And both these teams
[2:18] Speaker 1: lost it several times. So you can say what you want.
[2:22] Speaker 1: In the end, it was a wildly entertaining game. I mean,
[2:25] Speaker 1: through three quarters, Lamar Jackson had thrown for 62 yards.
[2:31] Speaker 1: And as Jim Nance and J.J. Watt said that, he
[2:35] Speaker 1: came out and They, you know, marched down the field.
[2:39] Speaker 1: But I thought, you know, Dallas, when they stopped him
[2:41] Speaker 1: on fourth and goal and then Dak hit CeeDee Lamb
[2:43] Speaker 1: for 50 plus yards, they marched down and scored. I
[2:46] Speaker 1: was like, oh, this is a grown up football operation.
[2:48] Speaker 1: I will say this. In a loss, there was a
[2:52] Speaker 1: lot about Dallas I liked. I mean, we can talk
[2:55] Speaker 1: about their defense, overshown, not available, secondary banged up. this
[2:59] Speaker 1: team's as good as Dak and Ferguson and Seedy and Pickens.
[3:03] Speaker 1: They had some gash run plays. I was kind of,
[3:06] Speaker 1: you know, I mean, I think Baltimore, if they played
[3:08] Speaker 1: 10 times would win six to seven, but I kind
[3:11] Speaker 1: of came away impressed with Dallas.
[3:14] Speaker 3: Why those two wide receivers beside Higgins and chase, and
[3:17] Speaker 3: they're probably right there with them are as good as
[3:19] Speaker 3: it gets. You know, I mean, Schottenheimer is really gassing up.
[3:22] Speaker 3: George Pickens is the greatest training camp he's ever seen,
[3:25] Speaker 3: but he's, He looks fantastic. Ferguson's awesome. I mean, their
[3:28] Speaker 3: offensive weapons are legit. That's where I go back to.
[3:31] Speaker 3: You get down to the goal line. They get the
[3:34] Speaker 3: ball back with a minute 30. They drive right down
[3:36] Speaker 3: the field. You've got a $ 60 million quarterback. You've got
[3:39] Speaker 3: two $ 30, $ 40 million wide receivers. You've got a tight
[3:42] Speaker 3: end who's big and who's very talented. You've got a
[3:46] Speaker 3: quick guy that you can utilize. Their play calling– Maybe
[3:50] Speaker 3: Dak was scared to take a sack on the third
[3:52] Speaker 3: down and just let it out. But the first and
[3:55] Speaker 3: second down play calls, they have as good of an
[3:58] Speaker 3: arsenal as any team in the league. Brian Schottenheimer, I've
[4:03] Speaker 3: supported him because I do think he's a pretty good
[4:05] Speaker 3: offensive coach, but I think if you're Dallas... Obviously, we're
[4:08] Speaker 3: going to talk a lot about the last play in
[4:10] Speaker 3: the field goal, but those couple plays, you got a
[4:13] Speaker 3: lot of money invested into that unit, and they've been
[4:16] Speaker 3: kicking ass and taking names. That's hard. It's one thing
[4:20] Speaker 3: if a guy trips or drops the ball. The plays
[4:23] Speaker 3: were awful.
[4:24] Speaker 1: They never had a chance, Collin. Yeah, I mean, that's
[4:28] Speaker 1: kind of the difference with a Shanahan or a Sean
[4:31] Speaker 1: Payton or an Andy Reid. You feel like– I remember
[4:35] Speaker 1: Brady talking about this, how they would basically do red
[4:39] Speaker 1: zone offense for like 60% of the practice. I mean,
[4:42] Speaker 1: that's essentially what the Patriots worked on. Brady and Josh McDaniels,
[4:46] Speaker 1: like that's– we knew we could march between the 30s.
[4:50] Speaker 1: We just worked on red zone stuff. They didn't look
[4:53] Speaker 1: terribly organized defensively. Lamar is now 3-0 against the Cowboys,
[4:58] Speaker 1: 127 passer rating, seven TDs and one interception. There is
[5:02] Speaker 1: a speed component. When you put Zay Flowers and Lamar
[5:05] Speaker 1: on the field and At the same time, there's a
[5:08] Speaker 1: dynamic offensively. I mean, how many times was Lamar trapped?
[5:13] Speaker 1: One was taken away by a penalty. Zay Flowers, you know,
[5:16] Speaker 1: when they paid him that money, I thought that's a
[5:18] Speaker 1: lot for a small receiver. John, he is so valuable
[5:21] Speaker 1: to that offense. Like he really, the Ravens and the
[5:24] Speaker 1: Chiefs are well-run operations, but both have missed on receivers
[5:29] Speaker 1: several times in the draft. When you're drafting at the
[5:32] Speaker 1: bottom of rounds, you're not getting the top three receivers.
[5:36] Speaker 1: By the second round, you're maybe getting the seventh or
[5:38] Speaker 1: eighth receiver. I thought that was one of those games
[5:42] Speaker 1: that it's going to be a great flight home for
[5:45] Speaker 1: the Ravens, and Dallas is going to kick themselves because
[5:48] Speaker 1: the Ravens have issues on the back end. Neither secondary
[5:51] Speaker 1: is very strong, and Dallas had that game within their grasp.
[5:56] Speaker 1: And on the third and goal, I mean, they took
[5:59] Speaker 1: a flyer and Dak overshot it by five yards.
[6:04] Speaker 3: And Wiggins is not, you know, his knock is not
[6:07] Speaker 3: the athleticism, the competitiveness, his size. He's not a super
[6:11] Speaker 3: tall corner. And you have tall, wide receivers. I also
[6:15] Speaker 3: thought when they said that stat that he has, whatever,
[6:17] Speaker 3: 65 yards or It's like, I feel like he's got
[6:20] Speaker 3: way more watching these because they hit some PIs every
[6:23] Speaker 3: time that he let it rip. I just assumed the
[6:26] Speaker 3: guy was going to be wide open down the field.
[6:29] Speaker 3: It's hard to trust. I mean, you know, Dallas went healthy.
[6:31] Speaker 3: Their defense has some question marks. They have a million
[6:33] Speaker 3: injuries going right now. they're in a tough spot. They're
[6:37] Speaker 3: going to, they have to win in shootouts. So you
[6:39] Speaker 3: get in the shootout and you lose and you're kind
[6:42] Speaker 3: of dictating the terms and you lose because you have
[6:44] Speaker 3: to kick a field goal, not score a touchdown. I
[6:49] Speaker 3: just can't get over how much they have invested on
[6:51] Speaker 3: that offensive side of the ball to get down there.
[6:54] Speaker 3: Cause it felt like what a great drive by Dallas.
[6:56] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[6:56] Speaker 3: Get the ball back with one 30 drive right down
[6:58] Speaker 3: the field. Dax and complete control. Obviously, Lamar hits the
[7:03] Speaker 3: great play, but Zay Flowers is wide open. Of course
[7:05] Speaker 3: he is. The secondary has no clue where they're going.
[7:09] Speaker 3: I just can't get over that ending, Colin.
[7:11] Speaker 1: Yeah, Dallas is almost better when they need 15 yards
[7:14] Speaker 1: than three. I really believe that. They're a great chunk
[7:19] Speaker 1: play offense. Ferguson can go vertical. I mean, the receivers
[7:23] Speaker 1: in Dak several times, ran today. They're really good at
[7:27] Speaker 1: getting chunk plays. They're not great at getting short yardage.
[7:32] Speaker 1: Baltimore's probably better at both, as they show you at
[7:35] Speaker 1: the very end. And Derek Henry, who is, again, Nolan Ryan,
[7:39] Speaker 1: he's absolutely ageless. All right, Buffalo 24, Chargers 16. I
[7:45] Speaker 1: saw a stat earlier today. Listen to this stat. This
[7:49] Speaker 1: was sent to me by my staff. This is incredible.
[7:53] Speaker 1: So since 2013, this is 13 years, teams with five
[7:57] Speaker 1: plus turnovers and a minus four turnover margin are 381
[8:03] Speaker 1: and one straight up. The three wins by teams that
[8:07] Speaker 1: have a minus four turnover margin, the bills over the
[8:11] Speaker 1: chargers today, The Jaguars over the Chargers in that playoff
[8:15] Speaker 1: game three years ago, and the Broncos over the Chargers
[8:18] Speaker 1: a decade ago. They call it Chargering. I have so
[8:23] Speaker 1: many thoughts on this. Josh Allen had two early picks.
[8:25] Speaker 1: They had three fumbles. They had 10 penalties. They played
[8:29] Speaker 1: a B-rate game. I did think L.A. 's defense was better.
[8:34] Speaker 1: But in the end, Herbert, I mean, I'm as big
[8:37] Speaker 1: a fan as he has of He has lacked self-awareness.
[8:42] Speaker 1: He has lacked feel. As Brady called it today, a
[8:45] Speaker 1: meatball sub. One of his interceptions was awful. Now, he
[8:49] Speaker 1: doesn't have a ton to work with. They're not great
[8:51] Speaker 1: at receiver or tight end. Their backs are okay, but
[8:54] Speaker 1: they're kind of slightly above average. They're not special. He
[8:57] Speaker 1: doesn't have a ton to work with. He doesn't have
[9:00] Speaker 1: Dax weapons. He just doesn't. Their weapons, they have not. Harbaugh, historically,
[9:06] Speaker 1: is not a wide receiver coach. A lot of average
[9:09] Speaker 1: receivers at Stanford, San Francisco, Michigan, and now. I mean,
[9:15] Speaker 1: Herbert was 20 of 34. Really bad pick. But there's,
[9:20] Speaker 1: I mean, maybe the OC plus Herbert, the interior line,
[9:25] Speaker 1: it just doesn't look right. They played a very good
[9:27] Speaker 1: first half, but they just can't get it out of
[9:28] Speaker 1: their own way.
[9:31] Speaker 3: Yeah, to me, the first half, Josh, you know, they
[9:33] Speaker 3: had the freak interception. He threw a bad interception. They
[9:35] Speaker 3: had the fumble, and they're only up 10-0. It's like,
[9:40] Speaker 3: you played like you should be up 24-0, it's 10-0,
[9:43] Speaker 3: and then all of a sudden it's 10-10 at the half.
[9:46] Speaker 3: And at the end of the day, Quinn Johnson, he'll
[9:48] Speaker 3: tease you, but it's 17-13 late in the game, Herbert
[9:52] Speaker 3: hits him and he drops it, and then he unravels.
[9:55] Speaker 3: And then you know, it just felt like that, that
[9:58] Speaker 3: kind of broke the dam because then Buffalo gets the
[10:01] Speaker 3: ball back, scores a touchdown and it's over. And you
[10:03] Speaker 3: could see it on Jim's Jim at Jim's once Jim
[10:06] Speaker 3: ever been Oh, and three in his life since probably
[10:08] Speaker 3: the playing days and like the early nineties, late eighties.
[10:12] Speaker 3: So I don't know what the answers are. Their offense
[10:15] Speaker 3: just isn't good enough. Because like you said, their defense
[10:17] Speaker 3: showed up to play. We're making plays. They were hitting Josh.
[10:20] Speaker 3: They were tackling. They were very physical. They look like
[10:23] Speaker 3: a team that, hey, we're 0-2. We're paying a lot
[10:26] Speaker 3: of people a lot of money. We have a $ 20
[10:27] Speaker 3: million coach. We're kind of a line in the sand
[10:31] Speaker 3: type moment. And I was like, damn, the Chargers, this
[10:33] Speaker 3: is a real performance. This is a real team. And
[10:36] Speaker 3: then as the game went, I mean, Colin, they ended
[10:38] Speaker 3: up losing 24-16. I mean, that's the crazy part. After
[10:43] Speaker 3: it ends, you're like, wait, what just happened? And we've
[10:48] Speaker 3: talked a lot about their schedule. I went back and
[10:50] Speaker 3: I watched his game last week because I was like, oh,
[10:54] Speaker 3: Herbert's bad like everyone. I didn't think he actually played
[10:57] Speaker 3: that as bad as I think. He's running for his life.
[11:00] Speaker 3: It's not as bad as people are acting.
[11:02] Speaker 1: No, the film people all admit it's not as bad.
[11:05] Speaker 1: Greg Cosell, Robert Mays, the guys that watch the film,
[11:08] Speaker 1: everybody's like, listen, they have huge drops, the fumbles by
[11:12] Speaker 1: the running backs, the O-line interiors, probably the worst in
[11:16] Speaker 1: the league again. Terrible. So he's got two good tackles
[11:20] Speaker 1: and one really good slot receiver. That's what he has.
[11:24] Speaker 3: But if you play Buffalo and you get a Josh
[11:26] Speaker 3: Allen game where he throws no touchdowns and has two
[11:30] Speaker 3: picks and you sack him four times and you still
[11:33] Speaker 3: lose by, you know, eight points, that's one of those
[11:37] Speaker 3: where this– Are we headed toward five and 11, four
[11:43] Speaker 3: and just an implosion? And let's face it, Jim's an intense,
[11:48] Speaker 3: work harder, grind harder. Jim doesn't pivot much, right? Jim
[11:52] Speaker 3: has one way to do things. And in fairness to him,
[11:55] Speaker 3: it's always worked. It's worked really, really well. I don't
[11:58] Speaker 3: know what his other pitch is. And now you got
[12:00] Speaker 3: Mike with the shades and the watch. I mean, that's
[12:03] Speaker 3: the opposite of Jim Harbaugh. I mean, so I... I
[12:07] Speaker 3: don't know.
[12:07] Speaker 1: I think they have to.
[12:08] Speaker 3: I think they're in major trouble, Colin.
[12:11] Speaker 1: I think they have to give up draft picks and
[12:12] Speaker 1: go get a receiver they trust. And then you could have–
[12:16] Speaker 1: go get a receiver, pay for it, then you have that,
[12:19] Speaker 1: Trey Harris, Ladd McConkie. I think Quentin Johnson, he's a bust.
[12:25] Speaker 1: It doesn't work. First-round pick.
[12:28] Speaker 3: Brady was calling this game this morning, right?
[12:30] Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[12:30] Speaker 3: I think he was because there were a couple throws–
[12:33] Speaker 3: And he brought up a good point. I think he's
[12:34] Speaker 3: talking essentially like him and Edelman. He's like, the deeper
[12:37] Speaker 3: the shot goes to McConkie, the smaller the surface area goes. Ladd, McConkie, Edelman,
[12:44] Speaker 3: Wes Welker, the great slot guys. And Ladd's a stud.
[12:48] Speaker 3: He would play for everybody. You're not taking deep shots
[12:51] Speaker 3: with him. But who else are they taking deep shots with?
[12:54] Speaker 3: Look at the Cowboys. CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Jamar Chase, T. Higgins.
[12:57] Speaker 3: And then you got little lad. Georgia didn't take deep shots.
[13:01] Speaker 3: You take deep shots over the shoulder throws. The pinpoint accuracy,
[13:06] Speaker 3: Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers in this prime aren't going
[13:09] Speaker 3: to hit those very often. Tom Brady's not. They don't
[13:11] Speaker 3: even run those plays unless it's a trick play. And
[13:14] Speaker 3: you feel like when you watch the Chargers, they take
[13:17] Speaker 3: a lot of shots with McConkie. Because I think they're
[13:19] Speaker 3: kind of acknowledging, like, hey, he's the only guy we
[13:21] Speaker 3: really trust. So even if it's a lower percentage, we
[13:24] Speaker 3: definitely don't trust Quentin Johnson, who, like you said, bust. And,
[13:30] Speaker 3: you know, Trey Harris has actually had a– he has
[13:32] Speaker 3: six catches for 76 yards. No, he's okay. These over-the-shoulder catches, that's–
[13:37] Speaker 3: you do that to Randy Moss. You do that to
[13:39] Speaker 3: Mike Evans. You don't do that to Ladd McConkie.
[13:43] Speaker 1: Okay, Jags 35, Patriots 6. People are freaking out in Boston.
[13:50] Speaker 1: First of all, it's not just offense. The Jags were
[13:53] Speaker 1: 5-for-5 in the red zone. I think this Trevor Lawrence
[13:56] Speaker 1: is the best Trevor Lawrence with Liam Cohen. This is
[13:59] Speaker 1: what we thought he was going to be in the NFL.
[14:01] Speaker 1: Good arm, moves well, sees the field, and he's got
[14:04] Speaker 1: a great coach. Liam Cohen, if he was coaching in
[14:06] Speaker 1: New York right now, would be the talk of the NFL.
[14:09] Speaker 1: He is a great coach, former small college coach. quarterback.
[14:15] Speaker 1: He's competitive. He and Robert Sala got feisty a couple
[14:18] Speaker 1: of years ago. You know, that Denver game, you know, again,
[14:21] Speaker 1: they lose big TV game. People say, ah, forget about it.
[14:24] Speaker 1: Then they go home and they do this to you.
[14:26] Speaker 1: They did this to the chargers. I think last year,
[14:28] Speaker 1: they'll kick the living, you know, what out of you,
[14:30] Speaker 1: if you, if you make mistakes. And so again, I
[14:33] Speaker 1: think this is the best Trevor, but the story is
[14:35] Speaker 1: Drake May. So he had a goal line pick that
[14:38] Speaker 1: was brutal. He's missing open receivers and, Here comes the inevitable, Mike,
[14:43] Speaker 1: what's wrong with your team? Did your off-field drama have
[14:46] Speaker 1: anything to do with it, which will irritate the hell
[14:48] Speaker 1: out of me? But, I mean, this kid last year,
[14:51] Speaker 1: he's had seven turnovers in three games. He had 11
[14:54] Speaker 1: all last season. I think the offensive line's probably better.
[14:59] Speaker 1: You know, this has happened before, John. You know, it's
[15:02] Speaker 1: like the sophomore slump where a guy comes in, Oh, Ken,
[15:06] Speaker 1: he's a rookie. I think he makes the Pro Bowl,
[15:07] Speaker 1: but he's rough. Then last year, he gets to the
[15:10] Speaker 1: Super Bowl with an easy schedule. Well, their schedule's really,
[15:12] Speaker 1: really tough. And, you know, he's still a kid. I mean,
[15:16] Speaker 1: of all the quarterbacks in his class, he was the
[15:18] Speaker 1: one that we said, he's the rawest. He is absolutely
[15:22] Speaker 1: the most raw quarterback.
[15:24] Speaker 2: Well.
[15:24] Speaker 1: Again, how many starts does he have? It's not a
[15:27] Speaker 1: great O-line. They don't have A.J. Brown. Again, this is
[15:30] Speaker 1: like Herbert. He doesn't have a ton right now to
[15:32] Speaker 1: work with. They don't have a No. 1 receiver. They
[15:34] Speaker 1: don't have a dominant back. Hunter Henry's a really good
[15:37] Speaker 1: tight end. Is he a great tight end? I'm going
[15:39] Speaker 1: to defend another quarterback. He's playing very poorly. I don't
[15:43] Speaker 1: think you sit him. But it's pretty bleak right now.
[15:46] Speaker 1: There's not a lot of positivity. Even their defense got
[15:49] Speaker 1: pushed around.
[15:51] Speaker 3: Yeah, he looks terrible. I mean, the leads the league
[15:53] Speaker 3: in turnovers, and obviously the pick to Travis Hunter in
[15:58] Speaker 3: the back of the end zone, that looks like something
[16:00] Speaker 3: a practice squad player. I mean, at one point in time,
[16:03] Speaker 3: I saw Mike Reese, like his first turnover. Well, that
[16:06] Speaker 3: ties Cooper Rush on the season for turnovers. And then
[16:09] Speaker 3: he just kept having them as the game went on.
[16:11] Speaker 3: I'm like, that's not good company to be in. The
[16:13] Speaker 3: other thing is, Colin, he rolled out a couple times today.
[16:17] Speaker 3: and missed open guys on the move, it's like, Drake,
[16:20] Speaker 3: that's kind of your thing. Making plays, running to your right.
[16:24] Speaker 3: This is a guy that's lost confidence. As much as
[16:27] Speaker 3: it came and grew last year, it feels like it's
[16:30] Speaker 3: all gone. And I think sometimes when it leaves, especially
[16:32] Speaker 3: for young players, you feel like I'm never going to
[16:35] Speaker 3: get it back. And you see Vrabel talking to guys.
[16:37] Speaker 3: I don't think there's much you can do. Now, in fairness,
[16:40] Speaker 3: if you take all of last year, Even the playoff game,
[16:44] Speaker 3: Lawrence really had a couple bad plays. And then this year,
[16:46] Speaker 3: the Jags are playing as well as all but two
[16:50] Speaker 3: or three teams. They have been fantastic since the guy's
[16:52] Speaker 3: been there. Honestly, this year, what have they played? The
[16:55] Speaker 3: two games, eight good quarters. And then the Denver game,
[16:58] Speaker 3: 10 out of the 12 quarters, they have been awesome.
[17:01] Speaker 1: And they've won 10 of 11 regular season games they've won.
[17:06] Speaker 1: Many by blowout. Many on the road. First of all,
[17:09] Speaker 1: Parker Washington could be the most underrated player in the league.
[17:12] Speaker 3: In the league. I feel like Trevor, I always thought
[17:17] Speaker 3: he was a little overhyped. I'm like, I'm not seeing luck. Good,
[17:21] Speaker 3: excellent prospect. I understood why he's a top pick. But
[17:25] Speaker 3: they acted like he was Elway. I'm like, pump the brakes.
[17:28] Speaker 3: This is the best. Like, this is the most complete
[17:30] Speaker 3: he's looked. You go back to last year, the way
[17:32] Speaker 3: he played for Liam. You go back to this year.
[17:35] Speaker 3: But this is where we talk a lot, like coordinators, right?
[17:37] Speaker 3: Stafford gets with Sean. Purdy with Kyle. Liam with Trevor.
[17:43] Speaker 3: Josh is... He's never coached a guy like this. He
[17:47] Speaker 3: just hasn't. His guy couldn't beat me or you in
[17:50] Speaker 3: a race. And it didn't matter. He's the greatest quarterback
[17:52] Speaker 3: of all time. Tom Brady said, I couldn't start at
[17:55] Speaker 3: another position in a high school game. He's the greatest
[17:57] Speaker 3: quarterback of all time. Josh is like... We've seen Josh
[18:01] Speaker 3: also leave the nest and go coach other guys. It's
[18:04] Speaker 3: not working. Like, Josh is.
[18:07] Speaker 3: Josh got a lot of bill to him. You listen
[18:11] Speaker 3: to his former players talk. He can go in and out.
[18:13] Speaker 3: He can be the tough guy, but he can love
[18:15] Speaker 3: you up. Josh is a northeastern, hard-ass. It's an intense
[18:19] Speaker 3: place to play offense. And it's a complicated offense. So
[18:22] Speaker 3: you start swimming intellectually. Then you start playing bad. And
[18:26] Speaker 3: you start showing your clips of the offense that used
[18:28] Speaker 3: to run with Brady. There's a lot going on up there.
[18:30] Speaker 3: It's just an intense place to play.
[18:32] Speaker 2: And it....
[18:35] Speaker 3: Would you agree it couldn't have started worse for a player?
[18:38] Speaker 4: And A.J.
[18:39] Speaker 3: Brown gets injured in the first half of the first game.
[18:43] Speaker 3: He's out. Their wide receiver core isn't exactly Edelman and
[18:47] Speaker 3: Gronk out there. They can't run the ball. I don't
[18:50] Speaker 3: know what they ran for today. Probably not well because
[18:52] Speaker 3: they were down so big. And the other thing is...
[18:55] Speaker 3: We talk a lot about the Jags' offense. Defensively, they
[18:57] Speaker 3: have a lot of team speed, and that defensive coordinator
[19:00] Speaker 3: is pretty good. They are well-coached. If the Jaguars were
[19:04] Speaker 3: like the Packers or the Niners, they'd be leading our
[19:08] Speaker 3: shows all the time. They just happen to play in
[19:11] Speaker 3: a state where college football is bigger, and they're probably
[19:14] Speaker 3: the smallest brand in the league, but they're a big-time
[19:18] Speaker 3: football team. They treated the Patriots like a JV team today.
[19:23] Speaker 3: I think the May thing... Kind of scary. I mean,
[19:26] Speaker 3: it's just, I'm not writing off his career, but 2026, like,
[19:30] Speaker 3: you usually don't just snap out of it when it's
[19:32] Speaker 3: looked this bad, do you?
[19:36] Speaker 1: If you're listening to this, I'm guessing you love football,
[19:38] Speaker 1: and if you do, it's pretty hard not to love
[19:39] Speaker 1: George Kittle. With his birthday around the corner, Bud Light
[19:41] Speaker 1: is hosting a celebration for him before the 49ers' October
[19:44] Speaker 1: 4th home game with an official George Kittle lookalike contest. Yes,
[19:47] Speaker 1: you heard it right, a George Kittle lookalike contest. So
[19:50] Speaker 1: dust off the old wig, throw on your jersey, and
[19:52] Speaker 1: head down to Faithful Mile outside Levi's Stadium at 11 a.m.
[19:56] Speaker 1: because your Kittle impersonation could win you a 49ers season ticket. Ticket.
[20:01] Speaker 1: 49ers season tickets. As a Kittle fan, sounds good to me.
[20:03] Speaker 1: Crack a Bud Light, enter their socials for more info,
[20:06] Speaker 1: and get ready to Kittle. Bud Light. Easy to drink,
[20:08] Speaker 1: easy to enjoy. Enjoy responsibly. I need to tell you
[20:12] Speaker 1: about this new sports trading app called Polymarket. It's the
[20:16] Speaker 1: best new way to trade in sports. In the past,
[20:17] Speaker 1: if you wanted action on a game, you put some
[20:19] Speaker 1: money in, and if your team was doing well and
[20:21] Speaker 1: you wanted to cash out, they'd lock the trade or
[20:24] Speaker 1: take a huge fee. Polymarket is a prediction market. It
[20:27] Speaker 1: is a stock exchange for sports, buying in and selling
[20:30] Speaker 1: out on your terms. When your team goes down to 20%,
[20:34] Speaker 1: you can buy in and sell it off at 40%
[20:37] Speaker 1: when they come back to double your money. I've tried
[20:39] Speaker 1: them all. Polymarket without question. The best prediction market. Better
[20:42] Speaker 1: than DraftKings, FanDuel, Koshi, you name it. They're so confident,
[20:46] Speaker 1: you'll never go back to the other guys. They're giving
[20:49] Speaker 1: you a free 50 bucks in your first trade when
[20:51] Speaker 1: you deposit just 10 bucks. And now they've launched a
[20:53] Speaker 1: new feature, Squads. It's a group chat. where you can
[20:57] Speaker 1: see what everybody is trading on. Download the Polymarket app today.
[21:01] Speaker 1: Use the code COLIN. It's great. C-O-L-I-N. That's code COLIN.
[21:04] Speaker 1: $ 50 free after you trade just $ 10. Let's talk Oregon 41,
[21:15] Speaker 1: USC 27. So I had predicted before the game that
[21:18] Speaker 1: Oregon would win because Oregon always wins games like this.
[21:21] Speaker 1: USC was at home. They knocked out the quarterback, Dante Moore,
[21:25] Speaker 1: so it was a backup quarterback. Oregon's defense coming into
[21:29] Speaker 1: the game, at least defensively up front, had been underwhelming.
[21:33] Speaker 1: They lost to safety in the first round of the Bears.
[21:35] Speaker 1: I would say Oregon on the back end is not
[21:37] Speaker 1: nearly as good as they were last year in the
[21:39] Speaker 1: two or three times I've watched them. Oklahoma State burned
[21:42] Speaker 1: them over the top several times. This is not a
[21:45] Speaker 1: great Oregon defense, but this was a classic example where
[21:51] Speaker 1: The criticisms, you know, when Gary Patterson got hired as
[21:54] Speaker 1: a defensive coordinator, it's like, OK. And then about three
[21:58] Speaker 1: weeks ago, somebody said, you know, Gary's not the easiest
[22:01] Speaker 1: guy to work with. He can be kind of thin skinned.
[22:04] Speaker 1: He's not really a Lincoln Riley guy. And they're like,
[22:06] Speaker 1: you know, he's kind of been out of it a
[22:08] Speaker 1: few years. This is a young man's game. And I
[22:11] Speaker 1: didn't think, you know, I think USC is. Linebackers, safety, corner,
[22:16] Speaker 1: they don't have a pro. They have two safeties last
[22:19] Speaker 1: year that both ended up, Kamari Ramsey and Bishop were
[22:22] Speaker 1: NFL safeties. They're not very good on the back end.
[22:25] Speaker 1: Their defensive up front is really good. They've got some
[22:27] Speaker 1: really good players. But I thought you saw the NIL
[22:30] Speaker 1: money of Oregon. massive offensive line, deep athletically, tight end,
[22:36] Speaker 1: wide receiver. The fact that they have a backup quarterback
[22:39] Speaker 1: that would start for 100 of 135 college teams or more.
[22:43] Speaker 1: I mean, he might not start. He might start for
[22:45] Speaker 1: everybody but the top 15 quarterbacks in the country. I
[22:48] Speaker 1: thought you saw the NIL money, but I think more
[22:50] Speaker 1: than that is the criticisms of Lincoln. He's not a
[22:54] Speaker 1: bad coach, but once again in the big spot, big
[22:57] Speaker 1: games are Illinois on the road last year. They had
[23:00] Speaker 1: the game won. They just can't make big stops.
[23:04] Speaker 3: Well, I think the moment when Dante got knocked out,
[23:08] Speaker 3: which I think those can be more, you know, I
[23:12] Speaker 3: think it's easy to judge in the slow motion world
[23:15] Speaker 3: we live in. But after the fact of him jumping
[23:20] Speaker 3: around and smiling and then throughout the whole game, the
[23:22] Speaker 3: kid was on the sideline.
[23:24] Speaker 1: Yeah, awful.
[23:24] Speaker 3: And then Lincoln after the game. I think that symbolizes
[23:28] Speaker 3: Lincoln Riley. I talked to a scouting buddy. I'm like,
[23:30] Speaker 3: what the hell is the difference at Florida? He's like,
[23:33] Speaker 3: you know, the old coach was everyone's friend. This guy's
[23:37] Speaker 3: much more like a general Schwarzkopf. This is you do
[23:40] Speaker 3: what I say in a modern way.
[23:43] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[23:44] Speaker 3: And Lincoln, there's a discipline and a toughness that just
[23:47] Speaker 3: doesn't exist.
[23:48] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[23:49] Speaker 3: That guy embarrassed once he's jumping around, and then he's
[23:52] Speaker 3: on the sideline.
[23:53] Speaker 2: Oh, it was awful.
[23:53] Speaker 3: I think most coaches say, go to the locker room, buddy.
[23:55] Speaker 1: No, I mean, that stuff is like.
[23:58] Speaker 3: Doesn't that bleed into the team, though, and the way
[24:00] Speaker 3: they play and the way they've played now for four
[24:02] Speaker 3: or five years? He's not a disciplinarian. He's not a
[24:05] Speaker 3: tough guy. No one's ever questioned his offensive ingenuity and
[24:09] Speaker 3: ability to scheme up plays.
[24:11] Speaker 1: Since he took over, people forget. he gave Brett Venables
[24:15] Speaker 1: a team that was winning 10 games a year. Oklahoma
[24:17] Speaker 1: now stinks. He got Clay Helton's team. There were no pros.
[24:20] Speaker 1: I mean, the offensive and defensive line, they had one
[24:22] Speaker 1: six round draft pick on either of those lines. They
[24:25] Speaker 1: had no pros up front. They were small. So, and
[24:27] Speaker 1: he won 11 games the first year, but I think
[24:30] Speaker 1: we are at a point and it's not as easy
[24:33] Speaker 1: as everybody said, Oh, let's just, you got to buy
[24:34] Speaker 1: them out. All right. 70 million. The next coach is
[24:37] Speaker 1: a hundred million. They just asked donors for 300 million.
[24:41] Speaker 1: for a new facility, which they built and it's beautiful.
[24:43] Speaker 1: They also need $ 35 million a year in NIL money.
[24:46] Speaker 1: You can only tap donors. Donors always want changes. Then
[24:49] Speaker 1: they point to the other donor and go, go to him.
[24:52] Speaker 1: You've already asked me twice. It's really easy to say
[24:55] Speaker 1: the NIL helps coaches. Because, I mean, Clemson just can't
[24:59] Speaker 1: afford the money. Wisconsin doesn't afford the money. USC can.
[25:03] Speaker 1: But this is a market. This isn't the Pete Carroll days.
[25:05] Speaker 1: There's two NFL teams in town. Everybody loves the Dodgers,
[25:09] Speaker 1: the Lakers. There's a lot of asks here. There's a
[25:12] Speaker 1: lot to do in Los Angeles. And these donors ponied
[25:14] Speaker 1: up $ 35 million this year. And you get run by Oregon,
[25:20] Speaker 1: and it was a wobbly Oregon defense. I mean, they'd
[25:22] Speaker 1: gotten roasted by Oklahoma State. They're not as good defensively
[25:27] Speaker 1: as they had been in previous years. I think Lanning
[25:29] Speaker 1: privately would tell you on the back end, they're pretty
[25:32] Speaker 1: average defensively. I think the buyout talk, I mean, Pete
[25:35] Speaker 1: Carroll would love the job, but it's a young man's sport.
[25:37] Speaker 1: You can't be 75 or whatever Pete is. No. I
[25:40] Speaker 1: don't know where you go from this, but I think
[25:42] Speaker 1: the buyout talk, I think he'll have to let the
[25:45] Speaker 1: season play out and make some calls and see where
[25:47] Speaker 1: it goes.
[25:49] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think he's going anywhere, but I do
[25:52] Speaker 3: think that one, what do you think of all the
[25:54] Speaker 3: articles coming out leading up to the game of his
[25:57] Speaker 3: bold proclamations? I mean, he was the one that put
[25:59] Speaker 3: this game on a pedestal. It's like Lincoln. Saban and
[26:02] Speaker 3: Urban Meyer, Kirby Smart would never do this for an
[26:05] Speaker 3: individual game, and you don't have the resume. Your margin
[26:10] Speaker 3: for error is not big enough where it's like, hey,
[26:12] Speaker 3: you're so much better than them, it'll be fine. Most
[26:15] Speaker 3: people think you're going to lose to begin with. And then, like,
[26:18] Speaker 3: Oregon's big benefit. I mean, there's a chance that, you know,
[26:21] Speaker 3: how much is Raiola making as the backup quarterback? A
[26:23] Speaker 3: million dollars?
[26:24] Speaker 2: He's good.
[26:24] Speaker 3: When Baker Mayfield got hurt and they put the undrafted
[26:26] Speaker 3: free agent in, I bet Raiola makes more as a
[26:28] Speaker 3: backup for Oregon than Beckett makes as undrafted free agent
[26:31] Speaker 3: for Tampa. Yeah. And Oregon deserves credit. What do they have?
[26:35] Speaker 3: They have a culture. You come here. Think of the
[26:37] Speaker 3: culture you have to have. Now, Lanning probably knew him
[26:39] Speaker 3: because they recruited him at Georgia. But, hey, we're going
[26:42] Speaker 3: to pay you a lot of money, but you can
[26:43] Speaker 3: make a lot of money starting. Come here. We will
[26:45] Speaker 3: help you grow. We did that with Dante Moore years ago,
[26:49] Speaker 3: and he came ready. I watched a lot of him
[26:52] Speaker 3: at Nebraska because of the hype. I was like, young
[26:57] Speaker 3: Patrick Mahomes, he was a disaster. That guy yesterday looked
[27:00] Speaker 3: like a real– like an NFL prospect.
[27:03] Speaker 1: Absolutely. Yeah.
[27:04] Speaker 3: And the other thing is, this is now your week four.
[27:08] Speaker 3: Dante Moore's getting all the reps. This guy's just playing
[27:10] Speaker 3: with the scout team to come in that ready. The
[27:13] Speaker 3: two cultures there, you got the other guy knocking Dante
[27:15] Speaker 3: Moore out, who's dead on the field dancing around and
[27:18] Speaker 3: then not leaving. It's like they couldn't be any... Honestly, Colin,
[27:22] Speaker 3: Oregon's losses, that lost Oklahoma State, they went into West
[27:26] Speaker 3: Virginia last night, drubbed Rich Rod. That quarterback for Oklahoma
[27:30] Speaker 3: State is legit. That team could be in the Big
[27:32] Speaker 3: 12 championship forever. Boise, they played somehow. Boise destroyed Western Michigan.
[27:40] Speaker 3: They're going to be the playoff team. So Oklahoma State
[27:42] Speaker 3: and Boise could combine for 20-plus wins. Oregon might get,
[27:47] Speaker 3: and listen, I hope Dante Moore is fine. Glad he
[27:49] Speaker 3: didn't break his neck because it felt really bad right away.
[27:52] Speaker 1: It was scary. I mean, it was one of those
[27:55] Speaker 1: when the ambulance is in the tunnel and the players
[27:58] Speaker 1: are watching it. It's bad. Yeah, I mean, it's kind of.
[28:02] Speaker 1: makes you sick to your stomach. But I don't think
[28:05] Speaker 1: they're going to have a drop-off of Raiola. Oh, no, no,
[28:07] Speaker 1: Royal is a big, thick kid with a good arm.
[28:09] Speaker 1: He was a five-star high school guy. But the whole
[28:12] Speaker 1: thing on the sidelines with USC and the juice box thing,
[28:15] Speaker 1: whatever they're doing, and the player after the hit is laughing.
[28:20] Speaker 1: It's like, dude, that's not good enough. Let's stop the
[28:25] Speaker 1: high school stuff on the sidelines. When Lane came in,
[28:28] Speaker 1: I never forget, I went into Lane Kiffin's office when
[28:31] Speaker 1: he was in USC, and there was a big Hollywood sign.
[28:33] Speaker 1: And I remember walking out thinking, Lane, you're kind of Hollywood.
[28:38] Speaker 1: SC's kind of Hollywood. I don't think you have to
[28:41] Speaker 1: sell Hollywood. I think you should be the opposite. Like
[28:45] Speaker 1: in Alabama... You could sell a little glitz because there
[28:49] Speaker 1: isn't much, right? Nick made it feel glamorous as a
[28:52] Speaker 1: football program. Not that it wasn't tough, but he gave
[28:55] Speaker 1: it like a big city feel because Alabama is small.
[28:58] Speaker 1: LA doesn't need to sell LA. What you always worry
[29:03] Speaker 1: about with a glitzy, glamoury Austin, Texas team or a
[29:07] Speaker 1: Miami team, you know, one of these like culturally hip
[29:11] Speaker 1: cities is Can you build toughness? Because your players choose
[29:15] Speaker 1: those schools because the women are beautiful. You've got a beach.
[29:18] Speaker 1: You've got a music scene. That's one of the things,
[29:20] Speaker 1: that's one of the reasons you go to Austin or
[29:23] Speaker 1: Coral Gables or Miami. Now, Mario Cristobal, to his credit,
[29:26] Speaker 1: has built a tough physical culture in a beach town. USC,
[29:33] Speaker 1: I've always thought, like, get out of selling that thing.
[29:36] Speaker 1: I mean, the guy at UCLA now, and they played nobody,
[29:38] Speaker 1: but you watch UCLA, they are squeezing every bit of
[29:42] Speaker 1: juice out of like the 28 best recruiting classes in
[29:46] Speaker 1: the country. USC had the best. They have four freshmen
[29:49] Speaker 1: playing for other freshmen, like rotating in. And I just,
[29:56] Speaker 1: to me, you're as good as, as the ability you
[30:00] Speaker 1: squeeze out of your roster. I just don't see it.
[30:04] Speaker 1: I just don't see them squeezing the most out of
[30:06] Speaker 1: their roster.
[30:08] Speaker 3: The reality is the teams he had at Oklahoma once
[30:12] Speaker 3: he took over for Stoops would have drubbed his current
[30:15] Speaker 3: USC team. He did a great job calling the plays,
[30:20] Speaker 3: but a lot like Chip, they inherited incredible situations. They
[30:24] Speaker 3: just needed a little foot on the pedal offensively and
[30:27] Speaker 3: went to the next level. I just watch USC. OK,
[30:30] Speaker 3: the Gary Patterson thing I thought would work. But if
[30:33] Speaker 3: it's not clearly not working these last couple of games,
[30:36] Speaker 3: he has no defensive, you know, like a lot of
[30:40] Speaker 3: these coaches have a network of guys. They kind of
[30:42] Speaker 3: go to a tree. He just like throws shit at
[30:45] Speaker 3: the wall and hope it sticks. He's like, well, we
[30:47] Speaker 3: went against this guy in the Big 12 10 years ago. Well, Lincoln,
[30:50] Speaker 3: it's 2026. You should have the pick of the litter.
[30:53] Speaker 3: I don't know exactly what happened with Dan Lynn jumping
[30:55] Speaker 3: ship to go to Penn State. I don't know. I mean,
[30:59] Speaker 3: it's just there. I would short them moving forward because
[31:03] Speaker 3: let's use Bob Chesney. Comes in with little fanfare. No
[31:06] Speaker 3: one had heard of the three of the four schools
[31:08] Speaker 3: he'd ever coached at. doesn't, you know, he's done a
[31:11] Speaker 3: lot of interviews, but he's not making bold proclamations. Even
[31:14] Speaker 3: John Summerall at Florida did not come in saying anything.
[31:18] Speaker 3: There came, and some of it USC created, they did
[31:22] Speaker 3: put him on a pedestal, Colin, like they were hiring
[31:24] Speaker 3: the Bill Walsh version of college football, and it's been
[31:28] Speaker 3: a disaster given what they've paid. I mean, they're not,
[31:32] Speaker 3: you agree, they're not a playoff team. This team is
[31:35] Speaker 3: not going to the playoffs.
[31:36] Speaker 1: Special teams, defense, not good enough. Texas 20, Tennessee 17. So,
[31:43] Speaker 1: you know, Arch Manning made some good decisions. Two or
[31:45] Speaker 1: three great throws. I thought he felt on the road,
[31:49] Speaker 1: big spot, pretty composed. I had a friend text me
[31:52] Speaker 1: who is somebody that formerly worked in the NFL. And
[31:57] Speaker 1: he said, where's the big upside? Now, Arch played in
[32:00] Speaker 1: a very small New Orleans high school. So he didn't
[32:03] Speaker 1: play at a modern day. He didn't play against a
[32:05] Speaker 1: bunch of D1 guys. So I've always kind of given
[32:07] Speaker 1: him a little bit longer kind of to play into that.
[32:10] Speaker 1: But it was interesting. This person worked in the NFL
[32:14] Speaker 1: and just said, you know, he's big enough. He moves
[32:19] Speaker 1: well enough. He's got a good enough arm. He goes,
[32:22] Speaker 1: but he's kind of inconsistent. And he goes, give me
[32:25] Speaker 1: one great play. He goes, I'm waiting for the great play.
[32:29] Speaker 1: Like when Josh Allen was at college or Mahomes, Sam Darnold,
[32:33] Speaker 1: you can put a three-minute reel up of their best plays,
[32:35] Speaker 1: and there are some holy what-am-I-watching plays. I went back
[32:41] Speaker 1: and looked at Mahomes, you know, after he got drafted.
[32:43] Speaker 1: I mean, it was just wild. I only saw him
[32:46] Speaker 1: play once in college that I remembered. It was those
[32:48] Speaker 1: crazy Big 12 games. I watched Josh Allen play Iowa
[32:52] Speaker 1: and Oregon. He got smoked in both, but he made
[32:54] Speaker 1: a great throw. I think it was against Oregon in
[32:57] Speaker 1: a losing cause where it just didn't even look human.
[33:00] Speaker 1: But what the person was saying is, you know, for
[33:03] Speaker 1: all the talk, Peyton Manning gave you moments of, wow.
[33:07] Speaker 1: Does Arch have that? As a former NFL scout, how
[33:11] Speaker 1: do you judge him today?
[33:13] Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't love him as a player. I mean,
[33:16] Speaker 3: relative to the hype talking about first-round pick, I've never
[33:21] Speaker 3: watched him these last two years and thought first-round pick.
[33:23] Speaker 3: Definitely not first overall pick, top 10 pick. I don't
[33:28] Speaker 3: see that level at all. Now, is he an undraftable,
[33:33] Speaker 3: like total scrub? Of course not. He definitely can move.
[33:37] Speaker 3: I think his release is a little funky. On a
[33:41] Speaker 3: play-to-play basis, you have no clue what you're getting. No
[33:45] Speaker 3: clue what you're getting. I mean, they got really high-end
[33:47] Speaker 3: wide receivers. One of the running backs was out. I mean,
[33:49] Speaker 3: the best player on that team is the pass rusher
[33:51] Speaker 3: who was incredible against Tennessee Simmons. But, Yeah, I mean,
[33:57] Speaker 3: I watch Raiola. One game of Raiola off the bench,
[34:00] Speaker 3: and you're like, damn, this is the guy that Matt
[34:03] Speaker 3: Rule was like, this is why we paid him millions
[34:04] Speaker 3: of dollars. If that guy would have showed up, we
[34:08] Speaker 3: would have won 10 games one of these last two years.
[34:10] Speaker 1: I think that's very fair.
[34:11] Speaker 3: You see it immediately. And to me with Arch, now listen,
[34:14] Speaker 3: Tennessee on the road, one of the loudest places, their
[34:17] Speaker 3: defense is good. But even the previous week against UTSA,
[34:22] Speaker 3: you see some wobbly ducks. I just don't love him
[34:27] Speaker 3: as a player at all. To me, he's not for me.
[34:31] Speaker 3: One of those. Not for me.
[34:33] Speaker 1: Yeah. No, I think the kid at Miami, Mensah, Darian Mensah,
[34:37] Speaker 1: has been the one quarterback and the Oklahoma State kid
[34:40] Speaker 1: where you get some, wow, that's special. Um, CJ Carr,
[34:45] Speaker 1: I like, he didn't have great traits. He's not big, strong, mobile,
[34:48] Speaker 1: but you know, that situation is a little like JJ
[34:50] Speaker 1: McCarthy where he didn't have to do a ton, but I'm,
[34:53] Speaker 1: I keep waiting for arch. And it's funny cause I'm
[34:55] Speaker 1: having people know I'm on the air and I have,
[34:57] Speaker 1: you know, people I talk to and former executives and
[35:01] Speaker 1: scouts and executives and they all, they all kind of
[35:03] Speaker 1: say the same thing is they, they just, um, ambivalent play.
[35:08] Speaker 1: It's like, eh, I.
[35:11] Speaker 3: Have a hard time seeing Texas win the whole thing
[35:13] Speaker 3: if Arch is going.
[35:14] Speaker 1: To play like this. They make too many mistakes.
[35:21] Speaker 3: I saw Marcel Reed, who played terrible for A & M,
[35:23] Speaker 3: and they asked Elko after the game, are you going
[35:25] Speaker 3: to bench him? And his response was no. Venables Mateer,
[35:28] Speaker 3: who's just been horrendous. Same type deal.
[35:31] Speaker 4: Yeah, we thought about it.
[35:31] Speaker 3: Do you think now, because I felt like in the NFL,
[35:35] Speaker 3: they were way more sensitive about benchings because it's hard
[35:38] Speaker 3: to go back. In college, most of my life, you'd
[35:41] Speaker 3: bench a guy, you'd come back in, much more unfazed
[35:45] Speaker 3: by emotions. Young kid, if you're not doing well, guys
[35:47] Speaker 3: would come in and out. You'd play two quarterbacks. Do
[35:50] Speaker 3: you think now that these people are stroking these $ 2, $ 3, $ 4,
[35:52] Speaker 3: $ 5 million checks for these quarterbacks, That it's like, I
[35:55] Speaker 3: don't even know if I'm allowed to take him out
[35:57] Speaker 3: of the game for some of these coaches. Because it
[35:58] Speaker 3: kind of crossed my mind seeing some of these like
[36:00] Speaker 3: Venables material. You didn't think about making a change or Elko.
[36:04] Speaker 3: You guys were playoff teams last year, but both those
[36:07] Speaker 3: quarterbacks making a ton of money. Like, am I even
[36:10] Speaker 3: allowed to yank this guy at halftime? Crossed my mind yesterday.
[36:13] Speaker 1: Yeah. No, it's let me let me throw one more
[36:16] Speaker 1: college thing out there. You know who impressed me? was
[36:19] Speaker 1: the Northwestern team that almost knocked off Indiana and Bloomington
[36:23] Speaker 1: Friday night. I'm getting over a cold, so I watched
[36:25] Speaker 1: about 12 college football games.
[36:28] Speaker 4: Yeah.
[36:28] Speaker 1: Listen, that guy, small college coach, took over for Pat
[36:31] Speaker 1: Fitzgerald when he was let go by Northwestern. And he's
[36:37] Speaker 1: gone 21-20. They hired Chip Kelly as his offensive coordinator.
[36:41] Speaker 1: Northwestern is well... coat and chip Kelly would work for
[36:46] Speaker 1: free at USC. Cause he wants to come back West.
[36:49] Speaker 1: I would imagine he's a man beach guy. Um, Northwestern's
[36:53] Speaker 1: got a new stadium. I'm just telling you, I watched
[36:56] Speaker 1: that game. These guys like Cignetti and the Northwestern coach,
[37:02] Speaker 1: under the radar. Your guy at UCLA, they just grind.
[37:07] Speaker 1: They know football. They don't have huge agents. There's a
[37:10] Speaker 1: lot of good coaches out there that nobody knows about.
[37:12] Speaker 1: They just need an opportunity.
[37:16] Speaker 3: Got another name for you. Dickert, the Washington State guy
[37:19] Speaker 3: that went to Wake Forest, just knocked off Louisville. I
[37:23] Speaker 3: think they won nine games last year. Now they're three
[37:25] Speaker 3: and one like he's doing that at Wake Forest. Like
[37:29] Speaker 3: Dicker's pretty good, you know, but listen, he doesn't have
[37:33] Speaker 3: the fanfare Elaine. He doesn't have Jimmy Sexton behind him
[37:36] Speaker 3: like some of these guys. Bob Chesney probably doesn't have
[37:39] Speaker 3: Jimmy Sexton behind him. You know, it's like I think
[37:42] Speaker 3: sometimes the hype train. Listen, I enjoy Lane. But if
[37:46] Speaker 3: you Google his resume, he doesn't have exactly Kirby's, you know,
[37:50] Speaker 3: win total of knocking off big teams. So that matters
[37:54] Speaker 3: a lot in college. In the NFL, you can't fake it, right? Like,
[37:58] Speaker 3: no one cares who Liam Cohen's hype machine or agent is.
[38:00] Speaker 1: Just watch him coach.
[38:01] Speaker 3: He's kicking everyone's ass. But in college, the pregame shows,
[38:05] Speaker 3: the Klats and the Curb Streets, there's a lot of
[38:09] Speaker 3: emphasis in those guys. Josh Pate, they have a lot
[38:11] Speaker 3: of juice. Feinbaum, that matters. A lot of guys suck
[38:15] Speaker 3: out a lot of the oxygen, and Lincoln's a good
[38:17] Speaker 3: example of that. They lead these shows, and it's like,
[38:22] Speaker 3: is Lincoln even the best college coach right now in.
[38:24] Speaker 1: L.A.? Lincoln right now is 5-14 against L.A. AP-ranked teams.
[38:33] Speaker 1: Think about that. That doesn't mean number one. Lincoln-Riley is
[38:36] Speaker 1: 5-14 against AP-ranked teams at USC. That is just brutal.
[38:42] Speaker 3: The Big Ten's a little down right now. Indiana, I
[38:46] Speaker 3: watched that game Friday night. They did not look like
[38:49] Speaker 3: they did last year.
[38:51] Speaker 1: Offensively, they are not last year. They are not as
[38:55] Speaker 1: good as last year.
[38:56] Speaker 2: Why?
[38:57] Speaker 1: The quarterback's not as good. Hoover's not as good as
[38:58] Speaker 1: Fernando Mendoza. They're good. They're not a special offense yet.
[39:11] Speaker 1: All right, week four predictions presented by Polymarket. Sign up
[39:13] Speaker 1: for Polymarket with the code COLIN and get 50 bucks
[39:16] Speaker 1: on us for their first trade. Okay, I like the
[39:19] Speaker 1: Cowboys this week because I think they were humiliated with
[39:22] Speaker 1: a couple of coaching gaffes late against Baltimore. You can
[39:26] Speaker 1: trade the Cowboys to win it 43% right now on
[39:28] Speaker 1: the Polymarket. market. Also, CJ Stroud is going through it,
[39:33] Speaker 1: and I don't see a course correct. I tend to
[39:36] Speaker 1: like teams that have losses that really infuriate them. That
[39:42] Speaker 1: was as bad a special teams gaffe, a coverage gaffe,
[39:46] Speaker 1: a third and goal. Your thoughts on that game?
[39:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you there. I think Dallas is
[39:51] Speaker 2: going to come into this game a little angry. We've
[39:55] Speaker 2: got to fix this, and we've got to change this,
[39:57] Speaker 2: and we've got a bad taste in our mouth right now.
[39:59] Speaker 2: We've got to get rid of this, and they're going
[40:02] Speaker 2: to come in with a mission to win this game.
[40:05] Speaker 4: Obviously, the Texans are 0-3.
[40:08] Speaker 2: Stroud has been playing okay, but they're not scoring many
[40:12] Speaker 2: points today. You know, the good thing is this Dallas defense,
[40:15] Speaker 2: you can take advantage of them a little bit. So
[40:17] Speaker 2: if there was a game where this offense can get
[40:20] Speaker 2: going and get into a good rhythm, score some points,
[40:23] Speaker 2: it might be against this Cowboys defense right now. But,
[40:27] Speaker 2: you know, the Texans, their defense is still very good.
[40:31] Speaker 2: They're getting after the quarterback. They're getting sacks. But Dax
[40:35] Speaker 2: seems to be playing very well. CeeDee Lamb playing very well.
[40:37] Speaker 4: But I agree with that.
[40:39] Speaker 2: I think Texans are in a tough situation, 0-3, and
[40:43] Speaker 2: going against a team that is hungry to get some revenge.
[40:46] Speaker 1: Yeah, and the O-line continues to be a massive problem
[40:49] Speaker 1: for the Texans. It feels like a four-year problem. All right,
[40:53] Speaker 1: 3-0 Chiefs, 3-0 Raiders. I do like Kansas City because
[40:58] Speaker 1: it's interesting. Mahomes finally has a run game, and he
[41:03] Speaker 1: is 22 of 24 on play action. He's also in
[41:06] Speaker 1: his career— 14-2 inside. So, you know, like he's really,
[41:12] Speaker 1: really good in play action, which he never really has
[41:15] Speaker 1: had a great run game. But you can make a
[41:18] Speaker 1: combo trade at 14% right now. I'm going to predict
[41:21] Speaker 1: that Kenneth Walker, Ashton Gentry, and Rasheed Rice all score.
[41:24] Speaker 1: I think it's a high scoring game. Give me your
[41:26] Speaker 1: thoughts on Chiefs Raiders. Are you surprised by Vegas? I
[41:32] Speaker 1: wouldn't say I'm surprised. I think Kirk Cousins is a
[41:34] Speaker 1: really talented quarterback.
[41:36] Speaker 2: I know he learned that system well and be able
[41:39] Speaker 2: to throw the ball on time.
[41:41] Speaker 4: He gets the ball out. He knows exactly where he's going.
[41:44] Speaker 2: And by the way, having brought Bowers back, I watched
[41:46] Speaker 2: the game they played last week against the Saints. I mean,
[41:49] Speaker 2: he is truly a game changer. You cannot stop him.
[41:54] Speaker 2: They put corners. They line him outside. They put a
[41:57] Speaker 2: corner back on him saying, all right, corner on tight.
[41:59] Speaker 4: End, advantage defense.
[42:01] Speaker 1: Not advantage.
[42:01] Speaker 4: He beats everybody. He wins.
[42:03] Speaker 2: He gets separation. And so they're going to continue to
[42:06] Speaker 2: feed him. And so not surprised that their offense has
[42:10] Speaker 2: been good. They've won some close games. And so this
[42:15] Speaker 2: should be an exciting game. Like you said, high scoring Mahomes.
[42:18] Speaker 2: with the play action. Like you said, I think that's
[42:20] Speaker 2: something they've been doing. They've been calling play actions the
[42:23] Speaker 2: last few years, but they get no defense reaction because
[42:27] Speaker 2: they don't have.
[42:27] Speaker 4: A run game. Now with the run game, you got
[42:30] Speaker 4: that going, which is great.
[42:31] Speaker 2: That helps the play action, get him some, some, some
[42:34] Speaker 2: looks and the defense is that they are expecting to get,
[42:38] Speaker 2: you can, when you run the ball, well, you can
[42:40] Speaker 2: predict a little bit what the defenses might do to
[42:42] Speaker 2: stop the run that helps the pass. So, again, I
[42:45] Speaker 2: do like the Chiefs. I just think they're playing well,
[42:49] Speaker 2: and I think they'll be able to outscore Vegas.
[42:53] Speaker 1: Yeah, Ashton Gentry and the fourth-round pick out of SEC Arkansas,
[42:57] Speaker 1: Mike Washington, who has been really– Really, SEC produces a
[43:02] Speaker 1: lot of running backs. All right, you can trade the
[43:04] Speaker 1: Seahawks winning by more than seven at 48%. I actually
[43:09] Speaker 1: think it's one of those games. I have defended guys
[43:11] Speaker 1: that throw pick sixes. Stafford's got 33. Darnold's had a few.
[43:17] Speaker 1: Brady had one in the Super Bowl. My take is
[43:19] Speaker 1: the following drive, Darnold drove down in one minute and scored.
[43:22] Speaker 1: I like aggressive quarterbacks. People look at that loss to
[43:26] Speaker 1: Washington and they think, sell your stock. And my take
[43:30] Speaker 1: is no, actually it's hard to win Seattle to DC
[43:35] Speaker 1: back-to-back roadies. You've done that before, but you know, you
[43:38] Speaker 1: have better players, Eli and the giants go on the
[43:40] Speaker 1: road for the second straight week. And it's a dud
[43:42] Speaker 1: from the first quarter, your thoughts on that game with
[43:44] Speaker 1: the chargers.
[43:46] Speaker 2: Yeah, I kind of think it's a similar situation with Dallas.
[43:49] Speaker 2: This is a Seahawks team that's a little angry. They
[43:52] Speaker 2: thought they kind of let one slip away last week.
[43:55] Speaker 2: Darnold played really well, but they had three turnovers on offense.
[43:59] Speaker 2: And so that's just not their style. They know as
[44:02] Speaker 2: a team, we got a great defense. Our defense is
[44:04] Speaker 2: going to get us turnovers. We got to protect the ball.
[44:07] Speaker 2: Jackson Smith and Jigba might be the best player. in
[44:10] Speaker 2: the NFL right now. He's unstoppable. So they want to
[44:13] Speaker 2: stay aggressive. And that's one thing, even last year with
[44:17] Speaker 2: Sam Darnold, and they went through kind of times where he.
[44:19] Speaker 4: Was turning the ball over.
[44:20] Speaker 2: He wasn't playing great all the time, but they encouraged him,
[44:24] Speaker 2: stay aggressive, push the ball down the field. We got
[44:27] Speaker 2: to make plays and we'll kind of get through those
[44:30] Speaker 2: times and overcome some of the bad plays. It's going
[44:32] Speaker 2: to make this better down the road. So I think
[44:34] Speaker 2: they kind of put it in that category, but they're angry,
[44:37] Speaker 2: they're mad, you know, going against a team that's 0-3,
[44:39] Speaker 2: that really offensively has really struggled.
[44:42] Speaker 4: And I get that. New offensive coordinator, quarterback, it can
[44:45] Speaker 4: take three to four weeks to get it going.
[44:47] Speaker 2: I just don't think against Seattle, that's not the team
[44:50] Speaker 2: you're going to find your rhythm. They are really good
[44:52] Speaker 2: on defense, multiple looks, making it really tough for the quarterback.
[44:56] Speaker 1: By the way, again, I think it's an art to
[45:00] Speaker 1: forget a pick six. Darnold had an incredible drive after
[45:04] Speaker 1: his pick six. How did you do it? You know
[45:09] Speaker 1: you just let it go and you knew it. How
[45:12] Speaker 1: do you get over it?
[45:14] Speaker 2: I think you get to the sideline and immediately it's
[45:17] Speaker 2: like your first question is not, hey, what happened there? Or, hey,
[45:20] Speaker 2: let's watch that play with the quarterback, coach, or whoever
[45:23] Speaker 2: you sit with. It's, hey, let's look at the game
[45:25] Speaker 2: plan sheet. What's our first pass play going to be
[45:29] Speaker 2: this next drive?
[45:30] Speaker 4: You're already looking forward.
[45:32] Speaker 1: Right.
[45:32] Speaker 4: Getting the ball back and throwing it.
[45:34] Speaker 2: And usually, you know, the coordinators that have great confidence
[45:38] Speaker 2: in their quarterback, they're calling a pass early, get them
[45:41] Speaker 2: back in rhythm, get a completion, get things going. And
[45:44] Speaker 2: that usually is what helps. So the mindset is automatically
[45:47] Speaker 2: next series.
[45:48] Speaker 3: We're getting the ball.
[45:49] Speaker 4: You know, right away, you throw a big six, they're
[45:51] Speaker 4: kicking off to you. So you don't have a.
[45:53] Speaker 2: Whole lot of time to sit down. So you don't,
[45:55] Speaker 2: you're not watching it. You're just, Hey, what's our best
[45:58] Speaker 2: completion play? Get our quarterback back in rhythm. And I
[46:02] Speaker 2: think that's the mindset.
