Colin’s top takes of the week! First, Colin’s joined by Nick Wright, host of “First Things First” on FS1! They start with the major breaking news that the Buss family has sold the Los Angeles Lakers at a $10 billion dollar valuation, and why it’s a massive positive for the Lakers to no longer be a mom & pop operation (3:00). They compare and rank the biggest brands in American sports (13:00), and argue that star players under contract can do as much for a valuation as the brand’s legacy. They pivot to Caitlin Clark and debate whether the media is UNDERRATING her superstardom and how great she will become on the court (15:30). Then, he’s joined by Jason Timpf, host of “Hoops Tonight”, to break down other top NBA storylines. They discuss what to make of Ja Morant’s future as his trajectory is pointing down (31:00), and explain why Morant is a cautionary tale (35:45). Finally, they react to the reports that Kevin Durant prefers the Spurs as a trade destination and debate whether it’d be the best fit out of his potential suitors (40:00). [1:08] Speaker 1: We get nick right for an hour and it's a
[1:10] Speaker 1: news breaking day. The Lakers just sold for a ten
[1:13] Speaker 1: billion dollar evaluation, which I believed for a long time. Nick,
[1:19] Speaker 1: all these sports franchises are undervalued. Whenever they say, you know,
[1:23] Speaker 1: the Cowboys are worth seven billion dollars. My take is
[1:27] Speaker 1: if somebody in Saudi Arabia had a good month with oil,
[1:32] Speaker 1: they buy him for thirteen billion. Because you don't know
[1:34] Speaker 1: if Google is going to be around in twenty years
[1:37] Speaker 1: or Microsoft. You know the Dallas Cowboys are going to
[1:40] Speaker 1: be around in twenty years. In fact, I remember reading
[1:42] Speaker 1: a story years and years ago they went back to
[1:44] Speaker 1: like nineteen eighty and they took the thirty leading companies
[1:48] Speaker 1: on the Dow Jones, and twenty five years later only
[1:51] Speaker 1: one was still like a really it was like Chevron
[1:55] Speaker 1: or something. And so my point is the Mark Walters
[1:58] Speaker 1: group is the Dodger owner. It's a really good group.
[2:02] Speaker 1: And it does make me think, Okay, the mom and
[2:05] Speaker 1: pop Lakers are over, because that's been the big knock
[2:07] Speaker 1: in LA is that. I mean, people forget little old
[2:11] Speaker 1: Van Gilbert could buy the Bus family four times. They've
[2:14] Speaker 1: been one of the poorest NBA ownership groups.
[2:17] Speaker 2: Correct, and one of the poorest from a net worth perspective,
[2:23] Speaker 2: and I would argue that they haven't. They have been
[2:27] Speaker 2: one of the more poorly run organizations in the league.
[2:30] Speaker 2: And I know that's weird because they have the second
[2:32] Speaker 2: most championships and they just got Luke and Lebron went there.
[2:36] Speaker 2: But I think that they have squandered a lot of opportunities.
[2:42] Speaker 2: I think that since doctor Bus passed, they have There
[2:46] Speaker 2: are very few things you can say the Lakers do
[2:49] Speaker 2: top notch in the league. And while they have been
[2:53] Speaker 2: you know, willing to spend, I think they've you know,
[2:56] Speaker 2: last decade, they've spent like the seventh most money they
[2:59] Speaker 2: should be the seventh most for Los Angeles Lakers. Is
[3:03] Speaker 2: not maximizing the market and the brand. I understand, it's
[3:07] Speaker 2: not baseball, so there is a cap. And in the
[3:10] Speaker 2: new NBA with the aprons, just spending recklessly can really
[3:15] Speaker 2: hamstring you. But this is a massive net positive for
[3:19] Speaker 2: the Los Angeles Lakers, for their fans. In my opinion,
[3:23] Speaker 2: you should not have. They're in a weird spot where,
[3:26] Speaker 2: similar to the Cowboys, where ownership's primary source of income
[3:31] Speaker 2: is the team, and that's one of the reasons I
[3:34] Speaker 2: think the Cowboys don't necessarily spend the way they should.
[3:37] Speaker 2: And that's how I have felt about the Lakers. So listen,
[3:40] Speaker 2: I don't know much about Mark Walters. I know that
[3:43] Speaker 2: he bought twenty six percent of the team from I
[3:47] Speaker 2: think A Shoots or whomever with the guarantee. Part of
[3:51] Speaker 2: that was if the buses sell, I get the first opportunity,
[3:55] Speaker 2: and now he's in. Now I agree agree with you.
[4:00] Speaker 2: Historically sports franchises have been undervalued. I wonder if we
[4:05] Speaker 2: are now getting to wear ten billions, ten billion dollars
[4:09] Speaker 2: kind of like, that's a lot thing about this money.
[4:11] Speaker 1: So the the Celtics sold for six billion. The GDP
[4:17] Speaker 1: of Boston, the gross domestic product is six hundred million annually.
[4:21] Speaker 1: It's a trillion in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles economy
[4:26] Speaker 1: would be the twentieth biggest economy in the world, meaning
[4:29] Speaker 1: it would be bigger than about one hundred and eighty
[4:31] Speaker 1: five countries.
[4:32] Speaker 2: So and so, and they own the the Lakers own
[4:35] Speaker 2: their arena, so that's an importance. So like you just
[4:39] Speaker 2: if the arena's worth two billion, given where it is
[4:42] Speaker 2: in the real estate and whatever. So now it's not
[4:45] Speaker 2: six versus ten at six versus eight. And you take
[4:48] Speaker 2: the fact that LA's a bigger market, and you know,
[4:51] Speaker 2: as much as this will pain our buddy Bill Simmons,
[4:54] Speaker 2: the Lakers are the biggest brand ambasketball.
[4:56] Speaker 1: Like Celtics were in the finals two years ago, it
[4:59] Speaker 1: didn't get good rating, It didn't get a number D.
[5:03] Speaker 1: I mean when the Lakers are in the final, regardless
[5:06] Speaker 1: of who the star is, it generally gets a much
[5:09] Speaker 1: bigger rating.
[5:10] Speaker 2: Well, yes, it's also true the Lakers have never been
[5:13] Speaker 2: in the finals without one of the biggest stars in
[5:15] Speaker 2: the Lawler. Well, that's a lot of like, oh that
[5:16] Speaker 2: Lakers time they made the finals with that scrappy, underachieving team. No,
[5:21] Speaker 2: it's Lebron or Kobe or Shacker, Magic or Kareem or Will.
[5:25] Speaker 2: But still your point stands. Yeah, no, they are the
[5:28] Speaker 2: the This is a fun one because you did your
[5:31] Speaker 2: Mount what was it, Mount just just more because they're
[5:36] Speaker 2: just more than everyone else. If we were to do
[5:41] Speaker 2: God this is this is corny and make funnable content.
[5:47] Speaker 2: It also, I'm sure will crush on TikTok or something.
[5:51] Speaker 2: If we were to do the Mount rushmore franchises in
[5:55] Speaker 2: American Force.
[5:58] Speaker 1: Four.
[5:59] Speaker 2: To me, there are three no brainers and then people
[6:04] Speaker 2: would argue about the four fourth. But the three no
[6:07] Speaker 2: brainers are the New York Yankees, the Dallas Cowboys, and
[6:12] Speaker 2: the Los Angeles Lakers. Those to me, do you think
[6:15] Speaker 2: I'm missing anything there? I think those are the three
[6:19] Speaker 2: brands that are truly every corner of the world. They're
[6:26] Speaker 2: you know, somebody's walking around wearing a T shirt even
[6:29] Speaker 2: if they've never heard of the team.
[6:31] Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I will say this. I think the
[6:37] Speaker 1: LA Dodgers because of the Walters Group, perfect spring, summer,
[6:46] Speaker 1: fall weather, O tawny. Now is you know Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
[6:52] Speaker 1: Dodger games are now an event. There are fans from
[6:56] Speaker 1: the Pacific Rim. Every home game owed attendance for the
[7:01] Speaker 1: Dodgers is number one in the league. They played the Yankees,
[7:04] Speaker 1: I think it was last year if I like twenty
[7:06] Speaker 1: five percent of the crowd was Dodger fans. They travel
[7:08] Speaker 1: incredibly well. I think the Dodgers over the last eight
[7:12] Speaker 1: since they've been purchased from the Mark Walters Group, I
[7:18] Speaker 1: think they have become and I'm and I mean this,
[7:22] Speaker 1: I think they're a step ahead of the Yankees. They
[7:24] Speaker 1: don't have all the pennants, they don't have all the titles,
[7:27] Speaker 1: but this ownership group is much more It's got deeper pockets.
[7:33] Speaker 1: It's more aggressive. I mean the way they are pushing
[7:36] Speaker 1: contracts down the road. They are a revolutionary fans as,
[7:40] Speaker 1: but they're not a bigger brand than the New York Games.
[7:43] Speaker 1: I think they're getting close. I think Otawni changes it.
[7:45] Speaker 1: I really do. Well.
[7:47] Speaker 2: If the idea is like Otani brings in and a
[7:51] Speaker 2: whole similar to Iron stand why I think he brings
[7:54] Speaker 2: in the Pacific Round Like what yeah, like what Yao
[7:57] Speaker 2: Ming did for the Houston Rockets. We're all of a sudden,
[8:00] Speaker 2: it's like you have this whole new market. But if so,
[8:03] Speaker 2: the because I really maybe eventually the Dodgers get there.
[8:08] Speaker 2: If Yankees, Cowboys, Lakers is the three the teams across
[8:13] Speaker 2: sports competing for that fourth spot, Dodgers definitely are in
[8:18] Speaker 2: the contention. The Celtics are the Warriors, No, probably not,
[8:23] Speaker 2: because that's good. The Warriors are like the Chiefs in
[8:26] Speaker 2: that it's the super nova of the moment in Mahomes
[8:30] Speaker 2: or Steph Curry, But they don't have a history to
[8:33] Speaker 2: where they're this big brand. So do you think you
[8:36] Speaker 2: think the Dodgers now have surpassed the Cubs. Yes, as
[8:39] Speaker 2: the second biggest.
[8:40] Speaker 1: Brands in base Yes, okay, because again, remember Chicago wanted
[8:45] Speaker 1: the Olympics. Why couldn't they get them? Because they were
[8:47] Speaker 1: not considered a global city. They were considered maybe are
[8:54] Speaker 1: They're like, Chicago has won Best North American City seven
[8:58] Speaker 1: years in a row from Conde nas Texture. It's an
[9:01] Speaker 1: unbelievable city, but it's not viewed as an international city.
[9:05] Speaker 3: D C.
[9:06] Speaker 1: San Francisco, LA, New York. Boston similarly is not necessarily seen.
[9:10] Speaker 1: It's seen as kind of parential for prudential parochial. So
[9:15] Speaker 1: I think they've surfaced. And the Cubs, the Ricketts family,
[9:18] Speaker 1: which by the way, they live about five minutes from
[9:20] Speaker 1: where I'm sitting right now, they are it seats thirty
[9:24] Speaker 1: six thousand. Their revenues just don't. They're not close. They're
[9:29] Speaker 1: just not close anymore so. And I think the Cubs
[9:32] Speaker 1: are historic and they matter domestically, but I don't think
[9:37] Speaker 1: they pull a big number for that.
[9:40] Speaker 2: That might be right, and it also might be a
[9:42] Speaker 2: lot of the benefit of the Cubs win away or
[9:46] Speaker 2: benefits their own word, but brand recognition for lack of
[9:51] Speaker 2: better term of the Cubs had to do with if
[9:53] Speaker 2: you're a millennial when you were growing up with like
[9:57] Speaker 2: basic cable, for some reason, you got the Cubs games
[10:01] Speaker 2: because of WGN, so you could like watch your team
[10:04] Speaker 2: and the Cubs, and so they had that and now
[10:08] Speaker 2: people can watch whatever teams they want. I just saw
[10:11] Speaker 2: the who do you sorry for this slight detour, but
[10:14] Speaker 2: after the Cowboys, what do you think the biggest brand
[10:17] Speaker 2: in football is? Like, I hesitate in the moment, it's
[10:21] Speaker 2: obviously the Chiefs, but you wonder, like if Mahomes retired,
[10:25] Speaker 2: like's an interesting everyone if nobody cares if you bought.
[10:29] Speaker 1: The Chiefs today, well you would have to consider Andy
[10:32] Speaker 1: Reid and Patrick Mahomes part of the buye. So this idea, Well,
[10:36] Speaker 1: the brand, what is the brand right now? Jerry Jones
[10:40] Speaker 1: is eighty, They're dysfunctional, their roster's bad. There's value to it.
[10:45] Speaker 1: But Kansas City's got the best quarterback in the league
[10:47] Speaker 1: for the next ten years. So I mean that when
[10:51] Speaker 1: Lebron James went from the Miami Heat back to Dan
[10:53] Speaker 1: Gilbert in Cleveland, I talked to somebody in that billion
[10:57] Speaker 1: equity space. He said that was a four hundred million,
[11:00] Speaker 1: billion dollar day for Dan Gilbert, the Calves without Lebron,
[11:05] Speaker 1: even with Evan Mobley and Donovan Mitchell, Lebron changed that.
[11:10] Speaker 1: It was a paradigm shift economically for Cleveland. Literally, Ken
[11:14] Speaker 1: Griffey saved baseball in Seattle. Lebron James changed the economy.
[11:19] Speaker 1: Taylor Swift's tour, an example, made two point one billion dollars,
[11:23] Speaker 1: sold ten million tickets. That is double the next biggest
[11:30] Speaker 1: tour ever. So it's only big because of one reason,
[11:35] Speaker 1: the artist. So if you count, I mean, let's be honest,
[11:38] Speaker 1: if you bought a soccer franchise ten years ago and
[11:41] Speaker 1: Ronaldo had an eight year contract, it would make it
[11:44] Speaker 1: worth half a billion dollars. More So, I think the
[11:47] Speaker 1: Chiefs with Mahomes, that adds to me, that adds half
[11:50] Speaker 1: of somewhere between five hundred billion and a billion dollars.
[11:54] Speaker 1: They go from six billion to seven because of Mahomes. Well,
[11:58] Speaker 1: so that's the other piece of this.
[12:00] Speaker 2: The other piece of this is if the if the
[12:03] Speaker 2: most valuable team in the NBA is now worth ten
[12:07] Speaker 2: billion dollars, what is the most valuable team in the
[12:11] Speaker 2: NFL worth is it fifteen billion?
[12:14] Speaker 1: Like?
[12:15] Speaker 2: Honestly, like, what is if this is the new because
[12:19] Speaker 2: you can't tell like as much as as big of
[12:23] Speaker 2: a brand as Lakers are. And I understand in the
[12:25] Speaker 2: NBA's new TV deal, I get all that there is
[12:28] Speaker 2: nothing that is the machine, that is the NFL. So
[12:31] Speaker 2: if the Lake, if we now have Lakers ten billion,
[12:34] Speaker 2: Celtic six billion, you know, as the metrics, then the
[12:41] Speaker 2: if forget the Cowboys. I'm trying to think of a
[12:44] Speaker 2: good you know, a good if the San Francisco forty
[12:49] Speaker 2: nine ers, yeah, were for sale, are they a ten
[12:53] Speaker 2: billion dollar franchise.
[12:56] Speaker 1: Caitlin Clark obviously a huge story in the controversy around it,
[13:00] Speaker 1: and I was thinking about it. I was pretty hard
[13:01] Speaker 1: on the WNBA when Caitlin Clark came in, and I thought, guys,
[13:05] Speaker 1: you can't open up with a New York Liberty and
[13:07] Speaker 1: the Connecticut Sun. You want to groove her into some wins,
[13:11] Speaker 1: because remember she went from the final four into camp
[13:15] Speaker 1: into playing she and the WNBA they probably knew she
[13:19] Speaker 1: would be good. They didn't think she'd quite be this good.
[13:23] Speaker 1: But it's getting to be a little bit like MJ
[13:27] Speaker 1: is that And they've done a better job this year.
[13:29] Speaker 1: They had an easier schedule they've put the games on television.
[13:33] Speaker 1: So the WNBA took a lot of heat, a lot
[13:35] Speaker 1: of heat, and Val Ackerman, the Commissioner's like, Okay, we
[13:40] Speaker 1: got ourselves a complete Taylor Swift and tennis shoes rock
[13:43] Speaker 1: star and they've done a much better job this year.
[13:46] Speaker 1: The officiating's not great, but the league's now just starting
[13:49] Speaker 1: to make real money now, right, So it's the officials
[13:52] Speaker 1: maybe the last part, you know, it's well.
[13:55] Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder with that. And I don't know, I'm
[13:57] Speaker 2: not educated enough on this about what the high hierarchy
[14:00] Speaker 2: of officiating is. But obviously the best basketball officials in
[14:05] Speaker 2: the world or in the NBA want to officiate in
[14:07] Speaker 2: the NBA. That let's just I shouldn't say the world,
[14:11] Speaker 2: just let's just do the US. I assume the second best,
[14:16] Speaker 2: like men's college basketball. Well yeah, I would imagine the
[14:21] Speaker 2: third best might be women's college basketball because up until
[14:25] Speaker 2: recently that was a far bigger industry than the WNB,
[14:29] Speaker 2: like so has the And again I am just speculating here,
[14:33] Speaker 2: but is the WNBA simply not picking from the you know,
[14:38] Speaker 2: the are the people who are the best officials are like, well,
[14:41] Speaker 2: it's way better jobs in officiating than I get, I
[14:44] Speaker 2: assume that's gonna be.
[14:45] Speaker 1: They flew commercial airlines a year ago, and yeah, I
[14:49] Speaker 1: mean the NBA do in like the eighties, so it's
[14:52] Speaker 1: like it's it's just a different ballgame. But but I
[14:56] Speaker 1: was thinking about this, most of the time, the media
[15:00] Speaker 1: gets it right when it predicts an all time star.
[15:04] Speaker 1: In fact, I would argue, and I think people listening
[15:07] Speaker 1: to this would push back that we undersold Tiger. Nobody
[15:12] Speaker 1: thought Tiger was going to have the lowest scoring average ever,
[15:17] Speaker 1: was going to have the tied for the most career
[15:20] Speaker 1: wins ever, has the greatest earnings ever. Nobody, not even
[15:25] Speaker 1: Nike would have guessed that.
[15:27] Speaker 2: No, and within five years have the scoring record at
[15:30] Speaker 2: all four majors and the Tiger SLA you know, the
[15:32] Speaker 2: Tiger Slam. Yeah, nothing else. You're right, Tiger was Tiger.
[15:36] Speaker 2: Lebron Serena Lebron. I would argue all the all time
[15:41] Speaker 2: grades that turned into all time greats also actually kind
[15:45] Speaker 2: of exceeded.
[15:45] Speaker 1: Expectations most of the time. I think Bryce Harper at
[15:51] Speaker 1: sixteen was considered arguably the baseball prospect. Ever, he's turned
[15:56] Speaker 1: out eight time All Star, two time National League MVP,
[16:00] Speaker 1: three hundred and forty home runs plus that is a
[16:03] Speaker 1: If you would have said that when he was sixteen
[16:05] Speaker 1: on Sports Illustrate, he's gonna be an eight time All Star,
[16:07] Speaker 1: two time MVP, he'd be like, yeah, for the best
[16:10] Speaker 1: prospect ever that that that's that's in that elite class. Sure,
[16:14] Speaker 1: but I think Caitlin, Clark, Lebron and MJ I think
[16:20] Speaker 1: they're better. And I thought Caitlin was going to be good.
[16:23] Speaker 1: But Gino Ariema, Yukon's coach, came out and said, and
[16:26] Speaker 1: this guy knows basketball. He's he's the best recruiter in
[16:29] Speaker 1: the history of the sport. He's like, this idea is
[16:31] Speaker 1: she's gonna walk into the w NBA in christ No.
[16:33] Speaker 2: But that was so here's the thing. All the Yukon
[16:38] Speaker 2: folks had, like the former the legendary Yukon players who
[16:43] Speaker 2: were then in media, and then Gino, they all kind of,
[16:48] Speaker 2: in my opinion, had a bias of Man, this was
[16:55] Speaker 2: supposed to be what everyone was saying about Paige Beckers
[16:57] Speaker 2: a year ago, but Page had blown out her knee
[16:59] Speaker 2: and she missed time and that and all of that,
[17:02] Speaker 2: and so they I think that they and they also
[17:06] Speaker 2: underestimated what a badass Clark was going to be. And
[17:11] Speaker 2: I think they also looked at it and said, well,
[17:14] Speaker 2: she's great and going to be great, but she's not
[17:18] Speaker 2: better than Brianna Stewart or Diana Torazzi, and they you know,
[17:22] Speaker 2: if they had a transition, she will do. And the
[17:25] Speaker 2: answer is she's a She is already one of the
[17:31] Speaker 2: four best players in the league. Oh yeah, she is
[17:33] Speaker 2: already uh an absolute and I say this in the
[17:39] Speaker 2: kindest words, an asshole on the court, like the way
[17:43] Speaker 2: you kind of need to They don't need to be,
[17:45] Speaker 2: but it's something people historically like in their athletes, like
[17:50] Speaker 2: a trash Larry Birder, Michael Jordan, a trash talker, you know,
[17:55] Speaker 2: hard ass. And she is already impacting way. I think
[18:00] Speaker 2: she has the best per game plus minus in the
[18:03] Speaker 2: league of everyone that's not on the New York Liberty Liberty.
[18:06] Speaker 1: Crossed ten years except so. The quality of WNBA play
[18:11] Speaker 1: in the last ten years has improved more than any
[18:14] Speaker 1: league anywhere. The players are the nutrition's better, the strength
[18:17] Speaker 1: is better. You go YouTube and WNBA game ten years ago,
[18:22] Speaker 1: they did not pass like this. Candace Parker ten years
[18:25] Speaker 1: ago led the league in assists at five and a
[18:28] Speaker 1: half a game a game. Not only is Caitlin Park
[18:35] Speaker 1: the best shooter, the best guard, the most influential, she's
[18:38] Speaker 1: also dealing nine assists per game. So what she's done
[18:43] Speaker 1: is she's really changed the tempo. She's doubling these all
[18:47] Speaker 1: time assist numbers or close to it, and giving you
[18:50] Speaker 1: threes and shooting nine feet beyond the arc. So, I mean,
[18:54] Speaker 1: as much as I liked her and I thought she
[18:55] Speaker 1: would be really good, I remember saying on the air,
[18:57] Speaker 1: she's gonna be She's gonna be really good, top ten players,
[19:00] Speaker 1: really fast. I don't think she'd beat this.
[19:04] Speaker 2: No, I listen she I agree with you that I
[19:06] Speaker 2: do think she is and in contributing to winning exceeding expectations.
[19:12] Speaker 2: I also think that and maybe eventually will get there.
[19:18] Speaker 2: But there so much in my I don't know what
[19:23] Speaker 2: you said on the air about this today because I
[19:25] Speaker 2: missed it, but so much of the social media pearl
[19:29] Speaker 2: clutching of basically we need to protect Caitlin Clark, I
[19:35] Speaker 2: just think it's so. I think it's patronizing, and I
[19:39] Speaker 2: also think it fails to recognize this is, in my opinion,
[19:46] Speaker 2: the best case scenario.
[19:48] Speaker 1: For the League.
[19:49] Speaker 2: The fact that she is has this swagger that there
[19:56] Speaker 2: and Brew made this point, and I thought it was
[19:58] Speaker 2: a really good one. The fact that yesterday's altercasions primarily
[20:03] Speaker 2: happened with Caitlin against other white players was actually a
[20:06] Speaker 2: really nice thing because it removed any of the bullshit like,
[20:11] Speaker 2: oh do the are the black players don't like it? No,
[20:15] Speaker 2: you know who doesn't like Caitlyn Larry most of her opponents,
[20:19] Speaker 2: you know, you know who historically is not that popular
[20:23] Speaker 2: in sports, the young, awesome, swaggery, trash talking player. That
[20:28] Speaker 2: player usually has allies on their team and their fans.
[20:32] Speaker 2: And that's it got correct by doctor j everybody and
[20:37] Speaker 2: so and so that's awesome. Here's another thing that's awesome.
[20:42] Speaker 2: This is only gonna make Caitlin better and tougher and stronger.
[20:46] Speaker 2: That's great. The fact that it is hard and that
[20:50] Speaker 2: like because the idea, because some of Caitlyn's like, there's
[20:54] Speaker 2: a real lunatic fringe on the internet about this conversation,
[20:59] Speaker 2: and I hate doing in life. I don't actually really
[21:02] Speaker 2: think both sides are a problem. Very often in the
[21:05] Speaker 2: Caitlin Clark thing.
[21:06] Speaker 1: It is both sides.
[21:07] Speaker 2: It is people on both ends of the spectrum are
[21:09] Speaker 2: out of their minds and the biggest Kaitlyn Vangel like
[21:12] Speaker 2: the leak. This is the league's cash count and if
[21:16] Speaker 2: they if they're not suspending these other players, she could
[21:19] Speaker 2: get hurt. Like, give me a break. It was a
[21:22] Speaker 2: light shove. She fell down. She's gonna be fine. The
[21:26] Speaker 2: Fever are gonna be in big games for a long time.
[21:30] Speaker 2: It is she is sustainably drawing eyeballs, and I do
[21:36] Speaker 2: think it is. Note while people pointed out correctly, oh man,
[21:41] Speaker 2: when she was out, the ratings dropped. The other piece
[21:45] Speaker 2: of this is the ratings dropped, but we're still higher
[21:50] Speaker 2: than pre Caitlin Clark WNBA, which means while yes, some
[21:54] Speaker 2: people are just showing up for her, some people showed
[21:57] Speaker 2: up for her and were like, oh, I like basketball,
[21:59] Speaker 2: and this is a pretty good product all stick around,
[22:02] Speaker 2: even if she's not there. At least some people did.
[22:04] Speaker 2: It's the best thing imaginable for the league. It's the
[22:06] Speaker 2: best thing imaginable for her, and it is for us.
[22:10] Speaker 2: You know, here in hockey ended last night. Basketball probably
[22:13] Speaker 2: ends tomorrow in the NBA. It'll be nice to have
[22:17] Speaker 2: like a captivating sports story for the summer other than baseball,
[22:22] Speaker 2: So I'm excited about it.

[23:46] Speaker 1: Okay, so I'm I feel vindicated, So I have been.
[23:49] Speaker 1: This has been one of my strongest NBA takes forever,
[23:53] Speaker 1: which is if you're under six' four in this league
[23:56] Speaker 1: and have the ball in your hands a, lot if
[23:58] Speaker 1: you cannot Shoot John, wall you Know, Westbrook Derek, Rose John,
[24:05] Speaker 1: morant you're gonna have to drive to the basket against
[24:08] Speaker 1: bigger players and you're going to get hurt more. Often
[24:11] Speaker 1: if You're Steve nash Or Steph curry and can, shoot
[24:14] Speaker 1: it can prolong your. Career you can do a you
[24:17] Speaker 1: know you don't have to, drive you get a lot
[24:18] Speaker 1: of no contact. Looks and my take On John morant, was,
[24:23] Speaker 1: YES i saw it was. SAID i thought he was
[24:25] Speaker 1: a poor Man's Dereck. Rose he's about fifteen pounds less
[24:27] Speaker 1: Than Derrick. Rose and you, KNOW i understand THE nba,
[24:31] Speaker 1: media he's a highlight. Player forget the maturity for a,
[24:34] Speaker 1: second which Is i'm never too hard on guys about.
[24:37] Speaker 1: Maturity i'm much tougher on football players because they're twenty
[24:41] Speaker 1: three and twenty four years. Old you bring twenty two year,
[24:44] Speaker 1: old you bring eighteen nineteen year old guys into THE, Nba,
[24:47] Speaker 1: okay they're gonna screw, up like the first couple of.
[24:49] Speaker 1: Years just just build in a really bad. Decision now
[24:53] Speaker 1: With jaw it was worse than. That but for, me
[24:55] Speaker 1: it wasn't the maturity stuff because he's a. Kid it Was,
[24:59] Speaker 1: okay he's wildly he's wildly. Entertaining he's an incredible highlight,
[25:05] Speaker 1: player but he's not an effective. Shooter and by the,
[25:09] Speaker 1: way the last several years it's gotten worse and he's
[25:12] Speaker 1: hurt more. So he has aged very. Quickly So i've
[25:15] Speaker 1: never been a fan of hyper athletic guards that aren't
[25:18] Speaker 1: particularly good. Shooters, Now westbrook was so athletic that he
[25:23] Speaker 1: could be a poor. Shooter and you, know he's bouncing
[25:25] Speaker 1: around the league, now but he either's just not a
[25:27] Speaker 1: lot Of westbrook's, historically And westbrook mostly is. Healthy he's
[25:31] Speaker 1: a sturdy he has a running. Back jaw's NOT i,
[25:35] Speaker 1: mean what's job one, eighty you, know one seventy, Eight
[25:38] Speaker 1: so he's. Spindily SO i just it's not THAT i
[25:41] Speaker 1: wasn't a. Fan he was a spectacular, talent BUT i
[25:44] Speaker 1: think everybody in the league Thought zion And jaw were
[25:46] Speaker 1: going to take it, over and it's going to Be
[25:49] Speaker 1: it's going to Be Bang caro And sga and these.
[25:51] Speaker 1: PLAYERS i, mean it's just it's just interesting how much
[25:56] Speaker 1: maturity and hard work, matters you, Know, Jada, sga Home.
[26:02] Speaker 1: GREN i, mean it's just like really, focused, driven aspirational.
[26:07] Speaker 1: Players AND i think it was just too, much too
[26:10] Speaker 1: soon form and he got banged. Up AND i Think,
[26:12] Speaker 1: memphis by the, trade is telling you we're going to start.
[26:15] Speaker 1: Over we're going to start and it's the right. Move
[26:18] Speaker 1: they can't. Compete we knew it this. Year it's the
[26:21] Speaker 1: right move By. MEMPHIS i actually like What memphis. Did
[26:24] Speaker 1: it's just they won't be very good for a couple of. Years.
[26:28] Speaker 3: Yeah you, know we were talking about power earlier in
[26:33] Speaker 3: the one example of a guy who succeeded despite a
[26:37] Speaker 3: lack of power Is.
[26:38] Speaker 2: Steph.
[26:39] Speaker 3: Yeah And steph is both a great shooter and someone
[26:42] Speaker 3: who has been consistently available to his team he's been.
[26:45] Speaker 1: Healthy.
[26:45] Speaker 3: Yeah and the tricky thing with Like john's going to
[26:48] Speaker 3: be twenty six years old at the start of next,
[26:50] Speaker 3: season and he's just straight up not as good as
[26:54] Speaker 3: he was three years. Ago, like not as, good he's
[26:56] Speaker 3: just not as good as a bad at. Basketball, No and,
[26:58] Speaker 3: like this is the age twenty six to twenty seven
[27:00] Speaker 3: is typically the age when players, Peak Like tatum best
[27:04] Speaker 3: season of his career right at this, Age this is
[27:06] Speaker 3: the age when everyone seems to kind of figure it.
[27:08] Speaker 3: Out it's where it's kind of where like the meeting
[27:11] Speaker 3: point of the mental part of the game and the
[27:13] Speaker 3: physical part of the. Game and from this point forward
[27:15] Speaker 3: it's kind of like a trade. Off you get a little,
[27:16] Speaker 3: smarter a little more, skilled but you get a little less.
[27:18] Speaker 3: Athletic this is the, peak, right and, instead like his
[27:21] Speaker 3: scoring volume has like in twenty twenty, two takes his
[27:24] Speaker 3: team to within two wins of the conference. Finals he's
[27:27] Speaker 3: going head to head With steph talking shit to him
[27:29] Speaker 3: having such a great breakout playoff. Run and ever since,
[27:34] Speaker 3: then his scoring volume has dropped every season since that,
[27:36] Speaker 3: year his efficiency has gone. Down he just posted his
[27:40] Speaker 3: two lowest games played totals of his. Career in the
[27:44] Speaker 3: last two. Seasons he's played fewer games in the last
[27:45] Speaker 3: two years than he did three years ago. Combined like
[27:48] Speaker 3: it's a it's been a downward. Trajectory and so if
[27:52] Speaker 3: You're memphis and you're looking at, it you just got
[27:56] Speaker 3: four unprotected first round picks From. Orlando there's deal is some,
[28:00] Speaker 3: young exciting talent on the, roster some guys Like Gigi
[28:03] Speaker 3: jackson that are, Interesting Zach edy that's. Interesting they have
[28:07] Speaker 3: guys in house that they can continue to develop and be.
[28:10] Speaker 3: Fun but they can bring in a massive trove of
[28:12] Speaker 3: draft picks by Trading morant And bain and just doing
[28:15] Speaker 3: a full. Pivot not to Mention Jaron, jackson WHO i
[28:18] Speaker 3: think carries a great deal of value somewhere around the,
[28:20] Speaker 3: league and SO i look at it as like a
[28:23] Speaker 3: basically it's a turning point For John. Rant you either
[28:25] Speaker 3: got to commit to him or you've got to get
[28:27] Speaker 3: off the, ship and the trade is a clear sign
[28:30] Speaker 3: that they're going to get off the. Ship not to
[28:31] Speaker 3: mention like they might look to TRADE. KCP i wouldn't
[28:34] Speaker 3: be surprised IF kcp gets moved to a contender at
[28:37] Speaker 3: some point in the next. SEASON i think it's Just
[28:38] Speaker 3: memphis looking at their situation and going, like we're sick
[28:42] Speaker 3: of being in this.
[28:42] Speaker 1: Business it's So jaw is such a cautionary tale when
[28:47] Speaker 1: you look at at big stars that explode and then
[28:51] Speaker 1: and then fall off and don't eventually rise to the.
[28:55] Speaker 1: Level it's always kind of a maturity. Thing it's almost
[28:58] Speaker 1: always that like you just couldn't handle the, spot Like
[29:00] Speaker 1: zion couldn't handle his. Weight wasn't it terribly focused? Player
[29:04] Speaker 1: ZION i thought was a tremendously just massive. Torque there's
[29:08] Speaker 1: just nothing like. HIM i Thought joe was. Spectacular BUT
[29:11] Speaker 1: i think it's it's one of the REASONS i like
[29:15] Speaker 1: nil as kids are going to stay in college and
[29:18] Speaker 1: they're going to be surrounded by non basketball players and
[29:20] Speaker 1: they're gonna be coached, hard and they'll go to class
[29:22] Speaker 1: and it's like it's a it's a big broad life
[29:26] Speaker 1: beyond just basketball and A g. League SO i think
[29:30] Speaker 1: i've And i've talked about this multiple. TIMES i Think
[29:32] Speaker 1: nil's were going to help THE nba and college, basketball
[29:37] Speaker 1: and you're going to get more. Guys The auburn player
[29:39] Speaker 1: WHO J mack. Loves auburn's got a guard that's. Explosive
[29:42] Speaker 1: he's coming back To. Auburn he could play in THE.
[29:45] Speaker 1: Nba it'll make him a BETTER nba player and a
[29:47] Speaker 1: great college. Player so and some of These european guys
[29:51] Speaker 1: now are coming over to college. Basketball SO i think
[29:53] Speaker 1: the coaching in college basketball has always been, excellent sometimes
[29:58] Speaker 1: almost two, dogmatic, right like it's just so coach. Oriented
[30:02] Speaker 1: BUT i look At jaw AND i think the story
[30:05] Speaker 1: Of jaw is a little too much too, soon and
[30:08] Speaker 1: just wasn't quite ready for the. STAGE i, mean there
[30:12] Speaker 1: was a moment in time where you, thought for about
[30:15] Speaker 1: a year maybe, two you're, like, oh he's gonna be
[30:19] Speaker 1: the face of the. LEAGUE i mean that that was
[30:23] Speaker 1: about three years, ago and then it all just, unraveled
[30:28] Speaker 1: AND i don't think we need to face the. LEAGUE
[30:31] Speaker 1: i thought he for a while looked like. It he
[30:33] Speaker 1: just wasn't ready for. It it's a lot to ask
[30:36] Speaker 1: and he wasn't ready for.
[30:37] Speaker 3: It, yeah you know what happens in this. League it's
[30:41] Speaker 3: success is so short lived because people are coming for.
[30:44] Speaker 3: You you, Know Like jannis looks like he climbs the
[30:47] Speaker 3: mountaintop in twenty twenty, one looks like he's gonna launch
[30:49] Speaker 3: this New, nope here Comes. Joki yeah he's the. Problem
[30:52] Speaker 3: it's Like jaw looks like he's about to climb the
[30:54] Speaker 3: mountaintop in twenty twenty. Two shay And ant have both
[30:57] Speaker 3: lacked him since they've kind of reached their their collective.
[31:01] Speaker 3: Ceilings and LIKE i, think you, KNOW i do believe
[31:03] Speaker 3: In John. MORANT i do he has a supreme athletic
[31:08] Speaker 3: trait in the ability to get. Downhill he actually is
[31:11] Speaker 3: an underrated shot maker close to the rim in terms
[31:14] Speaker 3: of like his floater and like little short. STUFF i
[31:17] Speaker 3: do think there's somebody that should probably consider taking a
[31:21] Speaker 3: bet on him or a chance on. Him AS i look.
[31:24] Speaker 3: Around you, know we're gonna talk ABOUT kd here in a,
[31:26] Speaker 3: second AND kd as we're gonna talk about it in
[31:29] Speaker 3: more detailer in a. Second but The athletic is reporting
[31:31] Speaker 3: That katie is preferring The, spurs which we'll get to
[31:33] Speaker 3: in a, minute but Like, houston If houston can't GET, Kd,
[31:39] Speaker 3: like would they consider a guy Like John? Morant is
[31:42] Speaker 3: there a team out there that has the that's in
[31:46] Speaker 3: a tough position that can afford to take that kind of,
[31:48] Speaker 3: risk maybe A sacramento a team that's been kind of
[31:51] Speaker 3: stuck in, Mediocrity like is there a team out there
[31:54] Speaker 3: that is willing to take a risk on a guy like?
[31:57] Speaker 3: Him BECAUSE i do think the upside is their. Calling
[31:59] Speaker 3: Like i've seen a lot of stuff over the last
[32:02] Speaker 3: couple of days ranking him at various points in the,
[32:04] Speaker 3: league AND i do think when he's, healthy he's still
[32:07] Speaker 3: like a right around the fourteenth or fifteenth best player
[32:10] Speaker 3: in THE nba because no one can keep him in.
[32:12] Speaker 3: Front he is an extremely talented. Player that's the frustrating
[32:16] Speaker 3: part is that it hasn't come. Together BUT i do
[32:19] Speaker 3: think that there's some somebody out there that's going to
[32:21] Speaker 3: take a chance on. Him but, ultimately whether or not
[32:23] Speaker 3: it works out is going to be whether or Not
[32:25] Speaker 3: jaw actually makes the changes that he needs, To, like
[32:27] Speaker 3: you got to, improve like you have to develop as
[32:30] Speaker 3: a jump shooter to take it easier on your. Legs
[32:33] Speaker 3: if he develops as a jump, shooter it will make
[32:35] Speaker 3: his downhill drives more dynamic and less, frequent which will
[32:38] Speaker 3: help him stay healthier and available to his. Team there
[32:41] Speaker 3: is a real upside, there he just hasn't been able
[32:44] Speaker 3: to capitalize on. It But, colin what are your thoughts
[32:48] Speaker 3: on the report That Kevin durant prefers The. SPURS i
[32:51] Speaker 3: was not a huge fan of this. Fit we were
[32:53] Speaker 3: talking last week about How wemby being very, thin kd
[32:57] Speaker 3: being very, thin even Deeron. Fox he's super fast, guard
[33:00] Speaker 3: but he's not a power. Player not a lot of
[33:02] Speaker 3: power on that. Roster, colin what are your thoughts On
[33:05] Speaker 3: katie potentially going to The.
[33:06] Speaker 1: Spurs, WELL i, mean to, Me Wembin yama And Stefan
[33:11] Speaker 1: castle are the. Team like that's nothing against De aaron And,
[33:15] Speaker 1: Vassal BUT i think those two guys are all, stars
[33:19] Speaker 1: one of them ALL nba so AND i think they're
[33:22] Speaker 1: just getting better. FAST i Think i'm always cautious to
[33:30] Speaker 1: Say Kevin durant doesn't fit. ANYWHERE i think he fits.
[33:33] Speaker 1: Everywhere like my Wife osa, says like salt works with,
[33:38] Speaker 1: everything like like like my son was a. Chef my stepson's, like, Yeah,
[33:43] Speaker 1: Bacon grease And butter work with everything That's Kevin. Durant,
[33:49] Speaker 1: like you can just find a spot for a guy
[33:51] Speaker 1: who's the best jump shooter at any given juncture in the.
[33:55] Speaker 1: League so AND i also Think kevin just kind of
[34:00] Speaker 1: figures it. Out you, KNOW i don't always like his
[34:03] Speaker 1: decision making on, teams but even In, brooklyn he was
[34:08] Speaker 1: the one THING i liked about. It he was the one.
[34:11] Speaker 1: THING i mean In, arizona In, phoenix it Was Bradley
[34:15] Speaker 1: beale that drove us. Nuts Kevin durant was giving me
[34:18] Speaker 1: twenty six and twenty. Seven i'm not disappointed with. Him
[34:21] Speaker 1: i've been disappointed with you, know his like team, selection
[34:27] Speaker 1: BUT i just kind of feel like he's water like
[34:30] Speaker 1: he just he just kind of floats and finds his
[34:33] Speaker 1: level AND i think he'll fit. Anywhere AND i also
[34:38] Speaker 1: think you've got really smart Between Chris paul and De Aaron.
[34:41] Speaker 1: Fox you, know you have good guiters on that, team
[34:44] Speaker 1: like really smart, guys and you can be a really
[34:50] Speaker 1: flawed team if you're. Intelligent we've talked about The Miami
[34:53] Speaker 1: heat like one of the smartest teams in league. History
[34:55] Speaker 1: it's Like Alan, Lebron, Wade, Bosh battie A. Haslam it's
[35:00] Speaker 1: like she's high. Functioning they didn't have a. Center chalmers
[35:06] Speaker 1: drove everybody. Crazy wade And lebron kind of had duplicate,
[35:09] Speaker 1: games and you're, like, yeah they got the four straight,
[35:11] Speaker 1: finals like they just figured shit out. Right AND i
[35:16] Speaker 1: kind of feel like if you Put wemby and and
[35:18] Speaker 1: It's fox and it's, uh you'd have to move. OFF
[35:22] Speaker 1: i Think Harrison barnes we talked about. BEFORE i think
[35:24] Speaker 1: it was the BUT i MEAN i just Think kadi would.
[35:26] Speaker 1: WORK i think it would just. WORK i think. IT
[35:30] Speaker 1: i Think houston needs him. More BUT i MEAN i
[35:35] Speaker 1: think he looks At houston and, thinks all, right like Like. Sangoon,
[35:41] Speaker 1: YEAH i Mean thompson is he a great offensive, player
[35:45] Speaker 1: yet he's more of an athlete defensive. PLAYER i don't.
[35:49] Speaker 1: KNOW i Think katie's smart and looks at it and just, thinks,
[35:52] Speaker 1: MAN i could have bad shooting nights and we could
[35:55] Speaker 1: score one twenty eight In San. Antonio LIKE i think
[35:57] Speaker 1: that's how he looks at. It Maybe i'm, wrong you, KNOW.
[36:02] Speaker 3: I want to be clear just BECAUSE i say it's
[36:04] Speaker 3: not my favorite fit doesn't mean it can't. Work Like
[36:08] Speaker 3: i'm a big believer in don't overthink things like don't
[36:11] Speaker 3: Overthink Kevin durant next To Victor wembinyama And Darren, fox
[36:16] Speaker 3: like they're gonna score a lot of points and they're
[36:18] Speaker 3: gonna be able to to get a certain number of.
[36:20] Speaker 3: Stops THERE'S i there is you were just talking about
[36:24] Speaker 3: With Desmond. Bain there's a reason Why Desmond baine's shooting
[36:27] Speaker 3: is so incredibly valuable in The orlando context on a
[36:31] Speaker 3: team that not only doesn't have a guy who can
[36:33] Speaker 3: make jump, shots but doesn't have a guy who can
[36:35] Speaker 3: make jump shots off the. Move so it's uniquely super
[36:38] Speaker 3: valuable to that. TEAM kd anchored by the physicality Of.
[36:42] Speaker 3: HOUSTON i like the kind of like force multiplier effect
[36:46] Speaker 3: he could have. There that, said even in the context
[36:49] Speaker 3: Of San, antonio he's obviously a massive. Upgrade he's obviously
[36:53] Speaker 3: gonna make them way. Better there's even like some interesting
[36:56] Speaker 3: stuff you could look at in the big. PICTURE kd
[36:58] Speaker 3: is like probably the best shooting workout guy in the
[37:02] Speaker 3: league to Pair victor Webbin yama. With he's legendary for
[37:07] Speaker 3: the quality of his shooting, workouts him going game, speed
[37:10] Speaker 3: him working on shots that are specifically available IN nba
[37:14] Speaker 3: games off of certain. Actions katie is like a legend
[37:17] Speaker 3: in his workouts off the. Floor wemby's going to be
[37:20] Speaker 3: doing all those workouts with, him you know he, Is
[37:22] Speaker 3: and it would lead to a certain development in terms
[37:25] Speaker 3: Of wemby's big picture. Health but it looks to me
[37:29] Speaker 3: more like less of a immediate contender juggernaut and more
[37:35] Speaker 3: of like kind of a fun place For katie to
[37:37] Speaker 3: end his career right go hand in hand In.
[37:39] Speaker 1: Wemby that's WHAT i. THINK i Think katy looks at
[37:41] Speaker 1: it and thinks this would be. Fun is that it
[37:44] Speaker 1: wouldn't BE i wouldn't have to drop twenty eight, points
[37:47] Speaker 1: would come. Easy AND i Think katie looks at it and, thinks,
[37:50] Speaker 1: okay Dearon. Fox you Know, wemby the structure of the.
[37:56] Speaker 1: Organization they draft smart, players they don't draft a lot of,
[37:59] Speaker 1: ego they don't draft a lot of. DUMMIES i Think
[38:02] Speaker 1: katie looks at himself and, Thinks, Okay houston's got. This
[38:05] Speaker 1: there's a lot of stuff In houston That i'm not
[38:07] Speaker 1: sure it's ever gonna be great in the. Playoffs it's
[38:10] Speaker 1: a lot of hyper athleticism and length and running AND
[38:15] Speaker 1: i and that's. Fun BUT i don't think at this
[38:18] Speaker 1: point he wants to be a, mentor right LIKE i
[38:20] Speaker 1: think he wants to. GO i Think i'll have some
[38:22] Speaker 1: fun and play with really smart, players highly functional, players
[38:27] Speaker 1: and all put the pressure on me to figure out
[38:29] Speaker 1: WHERE i, fit you, know like they don't need. HIM
[38:33] Speaker 1: i Think houston needs. HIM i think The knicks could
[38:35] Speaker 1: really use. Him SO i, think you, KNOW i think
[38:38] Speaker 1: FOR kd it IS i think it's. Perfect that would be.
[38:42] Speaker 1: Fun it would be fun for, him AND i think
[38:44] Speaker 1: it would be fun for.
[38:45] Speaker 3: Us it falls in line with the same ideology that
[38:49] Speaker 3: led him To Golden. State you, Know like to your,
[38:52] Speaker 3: POINT kd could win a title In, houston but it
[38:57] Speaker 3: would be a chore and offense would very. Difficult he'd
[39:01] Speaker 3: be facing crazy Looks, now the flip side of that
[39:04] Speaker 3: is he wouldn't have to be the same statistical monster
[39:08] Speaker 3: In houston that he would be in other situations Because
[39:11] Speaker 3: houston's defense is so good that he would just need
[39:13] Speaker 3: to basically lift them over the top on the offensive
[39:16] Speaker 3: end of the. Floor but there is something to be
[39:18] Speaker 3: said about basketball is more fun when the ball's moving
[39:21] Speaker 3: around and you're playing with more offensive skill when you
[39:24] Speaker 3: like Kd if there's one weakness at this point in his,
[39:26] Speaker 3: career he doesn't pressure the rim a Ton well Dearon
[39:29] Speaker 3: fox sure as hell. Does so like he's going to
[39:31] Speaker 3: get to play off of those advantages and play off
[39:33] Speaker 3: the ball like there is A kadi has told us
[39:37] Speaker 3: to our faces exactly who he is for. Years he loves,
[39:41] Speaker 3: basketball and he wants to play a fun brand of basketball's.
[39:44] Speaker 3: Right and so even if we look on it and
[39:46] Speaker 3: add it on paper and, go, Oh, houston, big, strong physical,
[39:49] Speaker 3: team they can anchor him with. Defense Emy udoka is
[39:53] Speaker 3: not the best offensive coach in the. World that team
[39:55] Speaker 3: doesn't have a lot offensive. Talent it Would it would
[39:57] Speaker 3: be a lot Like Oklahoma city in twenty. Sixteen And
[40:00] Speaker 3: i'm thinking he looks at that and, goes, Oh i'd
[40:03] Speaker 3: rather play, fun free flowing basketball with some more talented offensive.
[40:06] Speaker 3: Players and so with that being the, CASE i Mean
[40:08] Speaker 3: San antonio is going to be a really interesting team
[40:10] Speaker 3: if they pulled something like this. Off all of a,
[40:12] Speaker 3: sudden a guy Like Jeremy sohan becomes super important because
[40:15] Speaker 3: he'd have to be such a defensive anchor for them
[40:17] Speaker 3: in terms of size and. Strength Stefan castle obviously defensively
[40:21] Speaker 3: as a, guard would have to do a lot of that. Work,
[40:23] Speaker 3: Again i'm not sure THAT i would view That spurs
[40:26] Speaker 3: team as exceptionally. Dangerous but what a fun way For
[40:31] Speaker 3: wemby to start his career and what a fun way
[40:33] Speaker 3: For katie to end his.
[40:34] Speaker 1: Career, WELL i think Also katie looks At lebron and
[40:37] Speaker 1: Thinks lebron's always figured it. Out Is lebron doesn't want
[40:41] Speaker 1: to do a lot of the dirty. Work like if
[40:42] Speaker 1: he went To, Houston katie'd have to do some of
[40:44] Speaker 1: the dirty. Work he'd be, like he'd be Like steph
[40:47] Speaker 1: And Golden, state where it's, like, Oh steph plays, poorly
[40:51] Speaker 1: that's the narrative when they, lose it's Not Jimmy butler
[40:54] Speaker 1: And steph In. Houston very quickly he would be because
[40:57] Speaker 1: Because Jalen green's a hot and cold, shooter and very
[41:01] Speaker 1: quickly If houston, loses it's, like, Well, katie you, know
[41:04] Speaker 1: an off shooting, night.
[41:05] Speaker 3: We traded for. Him he was supposed to save.
[41:07] Speaker 1: Us that's, Right and it's just not the case In San,
[41:10] Speaker 1: antonio he'll be Part AND i do think as players get,
[41:14] Speaker 1: older they're looking for, fit and you, know it's it's
[41:18] Speaker 1: And i'm okay with. THAT i think As i've, Aged
[41:21] Speaker 1: i've always liked. Fit it's it's just fun to be
[41:24] Speaker 1: part of a, group a mix of young and. Old
[41:28] Speaker 1: but you don't want to be a, mentor LIKE i
[41:30] Speaker 1: just don't Think. Katie at this, POINT i think fun
[41:32] Speaker 1: is a really interesting word Because kyrie is fun to play.
[41:36] Speaker 1: With that's why he went, there And Golden state no
[41:39] Speaker 1: longer because of. Relationships wasn't he wasn't having a good.
[41:43] Speaker 1: Time he was, winning and so, Yeah i'm okay with.
[41:48] Speaker 1: It he's had a he's had an all time. Career
[41:51] Speaker 1: he's a different. Cat But i've you, Know i've come
[41:54] Speaker 1: to terms with not everybody is the. SAME i really do, think,
[41:56] Speaker 1: though what you're seeing right now in THE, NBA i
[42:01] Speaker 1: really like AND i know we don't have a super,
[42:04] Speaker 1: team but it's becoming like THE. Nfl it's a VERY
[42:07] Speaker 1: gm driven, League like the smart gms are gonna. WIN
[42:11] Speaker 1: a lot of them are in The west and they
[42:14] Speaker 1: have been for thirty. Years that's why The west is
[42:16] Speaker 1: overwhelmingly top to, bottom always deeper than The. East you
[42:19] Speaker 1: just have more good owners and more good. Gms and
[42:23] Speaker 1: the other thing, IS i think what we've really seen
[42:26] Speaker 1: this there's a lot of maturity in the league right,
[42:29] Speaker 1: Now Like indiana And Oklahoma. CITY i, mean these are grinding.
[42:33] Speaker 1: OUTFITS i MEAN i Think indiana plays pretty good. DEFENSE
[42:36] Speaker 1: i mean, again juxtaposition With okac jecktposed to, that, well
[42:42] Speaker 1: it doesn't look the. Same but there was a in
[42:44] Speaker 1: the second quarter in this, GAME i was, Like, God
[42:46] Speaker 1: india has given them. Problems SO i JUST i think
[42:50] Speaker 1: the league right now it went through a cycle where
[42:53] Speaker 1: it felt kind of you had old stars and two
[42:56] Speaker 1: young guys like you, know and you had These jaws
[42:59] Speaker 1: and these it's like they're just not. READY i just
[43:03] Speaker 1: feel like we've got this group Of halliburton AND sga
[43:07] Speaker 1: And Jalen williams and and it's just like really Good,
[43:11] Speaker 1: tatum really good young, players totally dedicated to the, league
[43:16] Speaker 1: and fewer and fewer old guys are. Relevant AND i
[43:20] Speaker 1: think IT'S i don't it may not get, ratings BUT
[43:22] Speaker 1: I I'M i really, like okay see In, Indiana LIKE
[43:27] Speaker 1: i really respect top to bottom both. Organizations the volume
