[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume. What is going on, everybody? How are we doing?
[0:19] Speaker 1: It is late, It is really late because the NFL
[0:22] Speaker 1: did a doubleheader, and for those of you on the
[0:23] Speaker 1: West or the East coast, the Chargers won. They beat
[0:28] Speaker 1: the Raiders. They kind of dominated that game. The final
[0:32] Speaker 1: score looks a little closer than it actually was. The
[0:35] Speaker 1: Bucks win a thriller. I would imagine everyone saw the
[0:38] Speaker 1: end of that. Baker Mayfield leads the game winning drive.
[0:40] Speaker 1: So we'll dive into the Chargers Herbert Harbaugh, Geno Smith,
[0:46] Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield, CJ. Stroud. I'm not quite sure what's going
[0:51] Speaker 1: on there. Obviously, the offensive line, the running game. The
[0:54] Speaker 1: Texas got some issues. They're rowing to They were my
[0:58] Speaker 1: lock of the year. I liked them as much as
[1:01] Speaker 1: like the Bills and the Ravens to win their divisions.
[1:05] Speaker 1: But it doesn't look good right now. It doesn't look good,
[1:07] Speaker 1: so we'll dive into that. We got some backup quarterbacks
[1:11] Speaker 1: starting because JJ McCarthy's hurt, Jaden Daniels is hurt. Buckle
[1:16] Speaker 1: Up obviously burrows out for potentially the entire season. We
[1:19] Speaker 1: got Tom Brady tonight in the coaching box, which I
[1:23] Speaker 1: don't think was a great strategic move to repiss off
[1:28] Speaker 1: the teams that it felt like it kind of let
[1:31] Speaker 1: that story die, kind of feels like they're rubbing it
[1:33] Speaker 1: back in their face. I just I would have advised
[1:36] Speaker 1: against that. We'll dive into that as well and talk
[1:40] Speaker 1: a couple other football things, but subscribe. We went live
[1:44] Speaker 1: right after the games on YouTube. We react to the
[1:47] Speaker 1: to the primetime games. We'll do a mailbag as well
[1:50] Speaker 1: in this podcast. I recorded one actually before the first
[1:55] Speaker 1: game started, like early afternoon, so we'll have a long
[1:58] Speaker 1: mail bag at John Middlecoff. I know a lot of
[2:00] Speaker 1: you guys have fired in my dms. I'm trying. I'm
[2:03] Speaker 1: gonna try to get to them all week. So I'm
[2:04] Speaker 1: gonna bang out a bunch of dms throughout the mailbag
[2:07] Speaker 1: over the next couple days. So keep firing in those dms.
[2:11] Speaker 1: And if you listen on Collins Pod, make sure you
[2:13] Speaker 1: subscribe to Three and Out Pod. I appreciate everyone your
[2:16] Speaker 1: guys support subscribing to our podcast, subscribing to our YouTube
[2:19] Speaker 1: channels mean a lot to me. And let's just let's
[2:23] Speaker 1: just talk some ball. But first, you know, I gotta

[2:32] Speaker 1: want to go to a game. I've always I haven't
[2:35] Speaker 1: been inside that venue yet, but I haven't met a
[2:38] Speaker 1: soul that has gone to Vegas and not enjoyed themselves.
[2:42] Speaker 1: They did a really good job on that stadium. Obviously.
[2:44] Speaker 1: If you're a Bronco fan or a Chiefs fan, or
[2:47] Speaker 1: you know, if your team's coming out to Vegas, if
[2:49] Speaker 1: you ever get the opportunity to go to me, it's
[2:51] Speaker 1: a no brainer. Take the weekend, you know, come out
[2:53] Speaker 1: on like Friday, hang out in Vegas for a couple
[2:55] Speaker 1: of days. But any any game you want to go to,
[2:57] Speaker 1: college or pro, any other sport as well. We got
[3:01] Speaker 1: the baseball playoffs right around the corner. The NBA this
[3:05] Speaker 1: coming up later this fall. Yeah, any college game concerts,
[3:09] Speaker 1: they got you covered. So game Time take the guests.

[3:18] Speaker 1: his purchase terms. Apply again, create an account, redeem the
[3:21] Speaker 1: code John Jwaight Jen for twenty dollars off down on
[3:24] Speaker 1: the game time app last minute take its lowest price
[3:26] Speaker 1: guarantee late, a little rusty. I was thinking this today.
[3:31] Speaker 1: I've been to a lot of Raider Charger games, and
[3:34] Speaker 1: typically they're pretty entertaining. That game, not so much. I
[3:38] Speaker 1: would say it was mostly one sided. It felt like
[3:42] Speaker 1: the Raiders kind of got their ass kick, which isn't
[3:44] Speaker 1: that crazy. The Chargers should be the better team. Last
[3:48] Speaker 1: year they were in the playoffs. This year I might
[3:51] Speaker 1: have to take the l on them that they look
[3:53] Speaker 1: even better. But I was thinking about, you know, Jim
[3:56] Speaker 1: Harbaugh to Jim tom Sula is one of the worst
[4:00] Speaker 1: coaching transitions in the history of the league. Honestly, it
[4:04] Speaker 1: might be the worst. But you could argue going from
[4:07] Speaker 1: Brandon Staley to Jim Harbaugh would be like one day
[4:11] Speaker 1: not being able to pay your rent, to the next
[4:13] Speaker 1: looking in your bank account seen one hundred million dollars.
[4:15] Speaker 1: I can't even imagine being a Charger fan, and hell,
[4:19] Speaker 1: just being someone that likes football seeing this franchise that
[4:22] Speaker 1: always underachieved because they never had a real coach, and
[4:26] Speaker 1: then the last coach that they literally had, Brandon Staley,
[4:29] Speaker 1: was like the laughingstock of the league. To go to
[4:32] Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh, who has been winning now for multiple decades.
[4:37] Speaker 1: It just it's awesome to watch. And I undervalue the
[4:41] Speaker 1: Chargers like they're really good, and it clearly starts with
[4:45] Speaker 1: their quarterback, who is one of the best players in
[4:48] Speaker 1: the league. We're gonna talk about Josh Allen Lamar Jackson
[4:52] Speaker 1: all year long. I would argue right now they are
[4:54] Speaker 1: the two best players in the league, and two guys.
[4:57] Speaker 1: If not now, then when right there, this is kind
[5:00] Speaker 1: of their time, especially if the Chiefs are going to
[5:02] Speaker 1: be down. But you could argue Herbert, you know, a
[5:04] Speaker 1: year into this system, like people have been shitting on
[5:07] Speaker 1: Greg Roman for years, like google Greg Roman's resume coaching
[5:11] Speaker 1: a lot of big games. Obviously, Jim Harbaugh's won a
[5:13] Speaker 1: lot of big games. The Chargers defense is really good now.
[5:18] Speaker 1: The one red flag tonight if Khalil Mack and I'm
[5:20] Speaker 1: recording this right after the game, I just hope it's
[5:23] Speaker 1: like not a season ender, because if that's a sie
[5:26] Speaker 1: season ending injury, that's pretty devastating. There's no replacing that
[5:31] Speaker 1: human being who still has arms that look like Arnold
[5:34] Speaker 1: Schwarzenegger in the mid eighties when he was on the
[5:37] Speaker 1: set of commandough Khalil Mack's biceps are fucking huge, and
[5:43] Speaker 1: I would love to get his curl routine. But he's
[5:47] Speaker 1: a badass and even in his what is he thirty
[5:50] Speaker 1: three to thirty four years old? Still playing at an
[5:52] Speaker 1: elite level, So hopefully he's okay. But the physicality of
[5:56] Speaker 1: their defense welcome to a Jim Harbaugh operation. But to me,
[6:00] Speaker 1: it starts it ends with Justin Herbert, who to me
[6:03] Speaker 1: has thrown his hat like early, like based on this season, like,
[6:06] Speaker 1: I don't expect him to not play at a high
[6:09] Speaker 1: level all year long to be an MVP candidate. Right,
[6:12] Speaker 1: we saw how good Lad McConkey is was last year.
[6:16] Speaker 1: He's clearly a stud. They add Keenan Allen, who is
[6:19] Speaker 1: just the consummate pro you know all who we saw
[6:22] Speaker 1: today that Harball was telling the broadcast crew, it's like, yeah,
[6:25] Speaker 1: he was excellent as a rookie, and we think he's
[6:27] Speaker 1: the most improved guy on our team this year. It's like,
[6:30] Speaker 1: that's not a bad guy to replace your star left tackle.
[6:33] Speaker 1: So you know the Herbert Quinn Johnson who I give
[6:37] Speaker 1: This is where Harbaugh deserves a lot of credit. It's
[6:40] Speaker 1: so easy to have a negative perception of guys and
[6:44] Speaker 1: let's say, let's just be real. Universally, that guy was like, Oh,
[6:47] Speaker 1: this guy's a huge bust. He can't catch Harbob kind
[6:50] Speaker 1: of hyped him up. And you know Jim does that
[6:53] Speaker 1: and he can be hyperbolic, and it's like Jim like
[6:55] Speaker 1: when he says, you know, my goal is to make
[6:58] Speaker 1: sure Justin Herbert is a Hall of And I think
[7:01] Speaker 1: a lot of people kind of smirk can go, that's
[7:03] Speaker 1: just Jim being Jim, but he's kind of serious because
[7:06] Speaker 1: Justin Herbert can be a Hall of Famer, Like Justin
[7:08] Speaker 1: Herbert is a Hall of Fame talent. And when you
[7:11] Speaker 1: get a coach like this where you're gonna win a
[7:13] Speaker 1: lot of games, you're gonna get the opportunity every year
[7:16] Speaker 1: to be in huge games in December and obviously in
[7:19] Speaker 1: the playoffs, to put yourself in the Hall of Fame. Conversation,
[7:23] Speaker 1: and Jim Harbaugh hires great coaches. He has a physical presence.
[7:26] Speaker 1: You saw to night like one thing with Gino Smith,
[7:30] Speaker 1: like different from Justin Herbert, Like I would take Justin
[7:32] Speaker 1: Herbert and Jim Harbaugh in this team like they could
[7:34] Speaker 1: play with anybody Now, it doesn't mean they will win
[7:37] Speaker 1: every game, But if you told me they're going on
[7:39] Speaker 1: the road to Baltimore in the first week of January,
[7:42] Speaker 1: I'd be like, yeah, I like their chances, assuming they're healthy.
[7:45] Speaker 1: Like their game translates. Gino Smith is kind of the opposite.
[7:49] Speaker 1: He is a great story. Right resurrected his career when
[7:53] Speaker 1: they beat Russell Wilson. He said, you know, the haters
[7:55] Speaker 1: wrote me off. I didn't right back. Easy guy to
[7:58] Speaker 1: root for. He is a little you know, Jacko and Hyde.
[8:02] Speaker 1: He can be a little fickle when he's playing average opponents.
[8:05] Speaker 1: And maybe there are some stats that push back against this,
[8:08] Speaker 1: but and listen, I'm using a large sample size in
[8:12] Speaker 1: Niner games. I think the Niners played him five times
[8:14] Speaker 1: in a two year span in that would have been
[8:17] Speaker 1: twenty two and twenty three when he was on the Seahawks,
[8:20] Speaker 1: and they kind of worked him. And you watch him
[8:22] Speaker 1: the night playing a real playoff level team doesn't look great. Right.
[8:27] Speaker 1: He's got a huge arm, he can move. He's a
[8:30] Speaker 1: solid player. But I do think the better competition he plays,
[8:33] Speaker 1: the more average he is. You saw last week he
[8:36] Speaker 1: plays the Pats pretty average defense, and he lights him
[8:39] Speaker 1: up like a Christmas tree. Now, in fairness, like you
[8:42] Speaker 1: look at the Chargers that Lad McConkie and Keenan Allen
[8:46] Speaker 1: are better than whatever the Raiders are rolling out, even
[8:49] Speaker 1: though I like Jacobe Myers and brock Bauers clearly tonight
[8:52] Speaker 1: like I didn't understand Orlosky kept saying in the booth
[8:55] Speaker 1: like they gotta get him the ball. They got a
[8:57] Speaker 1: good guys. He has a big knee brace on, he's
[9:00] Speaker 1: clearly banged up, and he's out there more as a
[9:04] Speaker 1: decoy than typically what you would see out of brock Bauers,
[9:08] Speaker 1: who can get a lot of yards. Now, I also
[9:11] Speaker 1: think this that if the Chargers are healthy on defense,
[9:16] Speaker 1: their shit's gonna work and they are going to be
[9:19] Speaker 1: a major factor the rest of the season, not just
[9:22] Speaker 1: to win this division, which now they're favored to do,
[9:26] Speaker 1: but like the way that they play in the AFC,
[9:29] Speaker 1: like Jim Harbaughs, teams are going to translate going on
[9:32] Speaker 1: the road. Najee Harris now battled through that firework accident.
[9:36] Speaker 1: You know, the rookie from North Carolina is a big,
[9:39] Speaker 1: physical back. Doesn't look great to me, still looks a
[9:41] Speaker 1: little slow, is running hard, but how I thought Naje
[9:45] Speaker 1: came in here. Now you could argue that he has
[9:46] Speaker 1: fresh legs. He'sn't really doing anything in training camp. But
[9:48] Speaker 1: they got a couple of running backs, they got multiple
[9:51] Speaker 1: wide receivers, They tackle incredibly well. From a scheme perspective.
[9:56] Speaker 1: They basically have Mike McDonald two point zero. That's what
[9:58] Speaker 1: Jesse Mentor was. He was in Baltimore with McDonald, then
[10:02] Speaker 1: McDonald went to Baltimore, came back, and then he took
[10:05] Speaker 1: Mentor from Baltimore to replace McDonald. These guys are just geniuses.
[10:10] Speaker 1: I was thinking a night watching you know, Mentor become
[10:12] Speaker 1: this star. And Deanton Lynn, who is Anthony Lynn's son,
[10:16] Speaker 1: who coached in Baltimore and is now the USC defensive coordinator.
[10:21] Speaker 1: Like Belichick for so long, could never develop assistant coaches
[10:25] Speaker 1: to go on and just coach other places just as coordinators,
[10:29] Speaker 1: let alone as head coaches get some organizations, just pump
[10:33] Speaker 1: dudes out whatever they're doing. However, John Harbaugh teaches his
[10:38] Speaker 1: guys there's got to be some sort of culture of
[10:42] Speaker 1: you know, information just disseminating throughout the building and throughout
[10:48] Speaker 1: the meeting rooms, and everyone gets to learn and improve.
[10:52] Speaker 1: But these guys come from Baltimore and it's been like
[10:54] Speaker 1: this even before John Harbaugh got there back in the
[10:57] Speaker 1: day with you know, Rex Ryan and Pegano and Mike Nolan.
[11:03] Speaker 1: This is like back in the Brian Billick days. They
[11:05] Speaker 1: just produced so many high level defensive guys and you
[11:09] Speaker 1: saw it tonight. They were crushing people. They hit so
[11:13] Speaker 1: freaking hard their linebackers and DB's all tackle and all
[11:16] Speaker 1: make plays on the It was on full display tonight.
[11:19] Speaker 1: Chargers are good and big big game coming up this
[11:22] Speaker 1: week now, Chargers coming off a short week, especially a
[11:24] Speaker 1: late week because they got a fly back, Denver's had
[11:28] Speaker 1: an extra day to prepare. But that's a big, big
[11:30] Speaker 1: game for Denver. There's a lot of pressure on Denver,
[11:33] Speaker 1: especially coming off that pretty devastating loss in Indy, to
[11:36] Speaker 1: win that game and listen the Raiders. I've been saying
[11:39] Speaker 1: this for a long time. A lot of respect for Pete.
[11:43] Speaker 1: His energy and his just infectious. I think, as Gino said,
[11:47] Speaker 1: his soul right. I don't even judge him from an
[11:49] Speaker 1: age perspective. It's just his energy and the aura that
[11:54] Speaker 1: he gives off is pretty unique. You know, he does
[11:56] Speaker 1: not feel like a seventy four year old. He feels
[11:58] Speaker 1: like he's, you know, a forty eight year old just
[12:00] Speaker 1: with gray hair, and they just don't have the talent.
[12:04] Speaker 1: They try their ass off Max every single snap he's
[12:07] Speaker 1: out there, and he's been like this his entire career.
[12:10] Speaker 1: Is playing like his team's going to the super Bowl,
[12:12] Speaker 1: even though more than likely they're gonna win six games, right,
[12:16] Speaker 1: you know, as Ashton Genty, I said this, like I
[12:18] Speaker 1: like the guy. People think I'm a hater. I'm a
[12:21] Speaker 1: huge fan, but like, this isn't Adrian Peterson. He's not
[12:25] Speaker 1: Walter Payton, and you put him on a bad team.
[12:29] Speaker 1: The offensive line is okay, like it's hard. Now he
[12:32] Speaker 1: makes some runs, but it's not like he just jumps
[12:35] Speaker 1: off the screen. Where this guy's a camp miss, all
[12:37] Speaker 1: time great running back prospect. And I do think and
[12:40] Speaker 1: I like Spy Tech. Obviously I'm rooting for him. He's
[12:44] Speaker 1: fan of the podcast. We root for all these guys
[12:46] Speaker 1: that come on the podcast. That was just a pick
[12:49] Speaker 1: that philosophically, I just I would have entertained other things.
[12:54] Speaker 1: Now I understand you want that type guy in the building.
[12:58] Speaker 1: What he represents, you know, the draft a little iffy
[13:00] Speaker 1: relative some previous drafts in terms of the crop of
[13:03] Speaker 1: players at that spot, it's just gonna be hard for
[13:05] Speaker 1: him to live up to that spot. I'd say the
[13:07] Speaker 1: same thing with Hampton at North Carolina, Like, is that
[13:09] Speaker 1: guy gonna live up to being a first round pick? Now?
[13:12] Speaker 1: There's less pressure when you're drafted in the twenties than
[13:15] Speaker 1: when you're drafted six. Overall that being said, big picture,
[13:18] Speaker 1: I think the Raiders are gonna be fine, but they're
[13:21] Speaker 1: a little bit away. I mean, you saw the Chargers,
[13:23] Speaker 1: who I would say don't have like a top five
[13:25] Speaker 1: roster in the NFL, and the gap looked pretty wide tonight.
[13:28] Speaker 1: And the one thing the Raiders, like I mentioned earlier
[13:31] Speaker 1: with Harbaugh and the Chargers enormous coaching upgrade to go
[13:36] Speaker 1: from what they had last year and really what they've
[13:38] Speaker 1: had for years, to go to Pete Carroll running their operation.
[13:43] Speaker 1: Is like they're gonna be okay. And Gino gives them
[13:46] Speaker 1: just some stability even if he is you like more
[13:51] Speaker 1: like ideally when you're spy tech or when you're any
[13:54] Speaker 1: general manager just building a team and becoming a GM,
[13:57] Speaker 1: you're looking for Justin Herbert and the Chargers got lucky
[14:00] Speaker 1: and as te Leasco said years ago, like they would
[14:03] Speaker 1: have taken Tua if Tua had been there, but he
[14:06] Speaker 1: got picked before and Justin Herbert fell into their lap.
[14:09] Speaker 1: And it's the best thing that has happened to the
[14:11] Speaker 1: franchise in a long time, right Justin Herbert and Jim Harbaugh.
[14:15] Speaker 1: Now you could argue the Chargers for really the last
[14:19] Speaker 1: twenty five years have gone Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Justin Herbert.
[14:22] Speaker 1: You know, we talk a lot, and it's hard to
[14:24] Speaker 1: beat far of Rogers. I mean, that's pretty untoppable. That's
[14:28] Speaker 1: like Montana Steve Young. I mean, it doesn't get any
[14:31] Speaker 1: better than those combinations. But Breeze, Rivers, Herbert, that's a
[14:35] Speaker 1: pretty incredible, you know, back to back to back quarterback run.
[14:42] Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean I entertaining game a little slow.
[14:45] Speaker 1: I'll bet little defense about it. The big story that's
[14:48] Speaker 1: gonna come out tonight, and I personally don't care, like
[14:53] Speaker 1: it doesn't bother me. And I'm more of an NFC guy,
[14:56] Speaker 1: I would say that an AFC guy, But I can
[14:59] Speaker 1: imagine some of the people in Kansas City, and you know,
[15:02] Speaker 1: and Andy always has background. What any sporting event going on,
[15:05] Speaker 1: and obviously during football season, Monday Night football would be
[15:08] Speaker 1: going on, same thing with Sean Payton, who obviously they'd
[15:11] Speaker 1: be watching this game because they play, you know, one
[15:14] Speaker 1: of the teams in this game. Looking up and seeing
[15:17] Speaker 1: Tom Brady, who is calling these games for Fox, which
[15:21] Speaker 1: I've given him some flowers. I think he's vastly improved
[15:25] Speaker 1: through two games. Then he sounded last year, but he
[15:27] Speaker 1: was sitting in the coaching box tonight, and I think
[15:33] Speaker 1: it was pretty bad optics from the simple standpoint of
[15:37] Speaker 1: the teams in your division gotta be like, no fucking
[15:40] Speaker 1: way you're telling me this guy is gonna get to
[15:43] Speaker 1: go into different locker rooms and teams, which we know
[15:46] Speaker 1: he's doing. But then also when he can be sitting
[15:50] Speaker 1: in the coaching box and on the headset with Chip Kelly,
[15:53] Speaker 1: it's one thing for Schreger to say, hey, Chip Kelly
[15:56] Speaker 1: and Spytech and these guys talk on the phone all
[15:58] Speaker 1: the time. Of course, on the phone in the NFL,
[16:01] Speaker 1: like it's like it's high school people text messaging or dming.
[16:05] Speaker 1: No one cares about that. You can talk to whoever
[16:07] Speaker 1: you want, whenever you want. But when you're in a
[16:10] Speaker 1: situation where you're sitting in the coaching box like he was.
[16:13] Speaker 1: I was like, Damn, I think that's a pretty bad
[16:17] Speaker 1: idea because I know if I was on the Chiefs,
[16:20] Speaker 1: or if I was on the Broncos, or I was
[16:22] Speaker 1: on the Chargers, I would have a huge issue with that.
[16:25] Speaker 1: And to me, if you're like the Eagles are the Packers,
[16:28] Speaker 1: you're less bothered and threatened by tom different conference. But
[16:32] Speaker 1: to me, the teams in your division, this guy owns
[16:35] Speaker 1: the team, but he's not your typical owner. This isn't
[16:37] Speaker 1: one of the Ursay dodters down there taking notes or
[16:40] Speaker 1: she has no clue what's going on. No different than
[16:43] Speaker 1: me or you. We'd have no clue if we just
[16:45] Speaker 1: put on a headset what the conversation is. That guy knows.
[16:49] Speaker 1: So this guy understands football because he's been around football
[16:53] Speaker 1: at the quarterback position at the highest level for decades.
[16:57] Speaker 1: He gets incredible access to be able to talk to
[17:01] Speaker 1: other coaches and gms about players just from a simple
[17:04] Speaker 1: fact of talking about guys that are potential free agents
[17:08] Speaker 1: or could get cut. He's getting this insight that no
[17:11] Speaker 1: other teams can sniff. When it comes to the access,
[17:16] Speaker 1: I just thought, I was like, damn, I don't think
[17:18] Speaker 1: Tom if he could do that over he even if
[17:22] Speaker 1: he has a headset on, he would have been kind
[17:25] Speaker 1: of hidden. I think being out front like that was
[17:29] Speaker 1: and I don't think he meant to do it. I
[17:31] Speaker 1: don't even think he thought that far. But that was
[17:33] Speaker 1: kind of a double middle fingers to the teams in
[17:35] Speaker 1: your division, like, yeah, we might not be as good
[17:38] Speaker 1: as you guys now, but like the insight and the
[17:40] Speaker 1: access I'm getting is stuff you guys are not allowed
[17:43] Speaker 1: to do, and that's just not the way the NFL works.
[17:46] Speaker 1: I mean, we've seen for a long time teams freak
[17:48] Speaker 1: out about stuff like this, and teams originally freaked out
[17:52] Speaker 1: about it, then they kind of, I would say, relented
[17:55] Speaker 1: and just was like it's not worth our energy. That
[17:58] Speaker 1: was pretty out front, and I think sometimes when you
[18:02] Speaker 1: make a big scene in a primetime game like this,
[18:06] Speaker 1: I do think this conversation in this story kind of
[18:09] Speaker 1: bubbles back to the surface where it felt like it
[18:12] Speaker 1: had kind of gone away. And I think specifically with
[18:15] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, the Broncos and the Chargers are gonna by
[18:19] Speaker 1: far have the biggest issue. But I'd even argue any
[18:22] Speaker 1: team in the AFC would be like, we can't have
[18:25] Speaker 1: this because if Pete Carroll and these guys do get
[18:27] Speaker 1: it turned around, they got like this. You know, Jason
[18:30] Speaker 1: Born figure that like has access, doesn't even need to
[18:34] Speaker 1: break into these facilities, just like, oh, come on in,
[18:36] Speaker 1: talk to our guys, talk to our GM like, no,
[18:40] Speaker 1: that's not gonna fly. I was stunned, honestly, it was
[18:44] Speaker 1: jarring to see he's got all these coaches. The dude
[18:47] Speaker 1: sitting next to him looks like a twenty three, twenty
[18:49] Speaker 1: four year old quality control guy gets his big breaks
[18:53] Speaker 1: in the NFL is on national TV. Maybe his girlfriend's watching,
[18:57] Speaker 1: his parents are at home, like that's little Jimmy, and
[19:00] Speaker 1: sit right next to Tom and he's trying to act cool.
[19:03] Speaker 1: I know this. If I was that kid, I would
[19:05] Speaker 1: frame that picture and put it up in my house immediately.
[19:07] Speaker 1: So I promise you this that Tom Brady being involved
[19:12] Speaker 1: and having this special access is a story that's gonna
[19:14] Speaker 1: come back to the light, I guarantee, just not even
[19:18] Speaker 1: just this week, but I do think we're gonna hear
[19:20] Speaker 1: more about it, a little bit like the Tush push.
[19:22] Speaker 1: The more the Toush push becomes a little more controversial,
[19:25] Speaker 1: the more teams are gonna opine and be like, we
[19:28] Speaker 1: got to get rid of this. We are extremely excited
[19:36] Speaker 1: to announce our new presenting sponsor, hard rock Bet. Everyone

[20:50] Speaker 1: gambler Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia. The
[21:01] Speaker 1: other game that happened earlier today. Two big takeaways. One
[21:06] Speaker 1: a lot like Herbert Baker's one of the best quarterbacks
[21:08] Speaker 1: in the NFL. Like to me with bro Out, Herbert's
[21:11] Speaker 1: clearly right there right now with Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson,
[21:13] Speaker 1: is one of the best two or three quarterbacks in
[21:16] Speaker 1: the league. And I listen. You can nitpick mahomes stats
[21:19] Speaker 1: all you want. Like I watched that game, I still
[21:21] Speaker 1: think the guy's a stud. I would take him on
[21:22] Speaker 1: my team tomorrow. I know this. I feel good if
[21:26] Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes is my quarterback. But I put Herbert right
[21:28] Speaker 1: there the way he's playing right now. I don't know
[21:31] Speaker 1: if I put Baker quite at their level, but he's
[21:33] Speaker 1: clearly a top seven to eight guy in the league
[21:36] Speaker 1: and his performance in a game on the road against
[21:39] Speaker 1: an elite defense. I mean that defense has three or
[21:43] Speaker 1: four sweet defensive backs. They have two dominant edge rushers
[21:47] Speaker 1: in Hunter and will Anderson, who play especially Will Anderson
[21:50] Speaker 1: play their ass off. He's missing his star tackle, so
[21:54] Speaker 1: he's got a backup. He's getting peppered all night. He's
[21:57] Speaker 1: getting throttled, he's getting twisted. He's clearly little banged up.
[22:01] Speaker 1: And that little fucking guy just made play after play
[22:05] Speaker 1: after play and led him on a game winning drive
[22:07] Speaker 1: on the road and let him on a game winning
[22:09] Speaker 1: drive where he was in complete control. They weren't panicking,
[22:12] Speaker 1: they weren't freaking out about calling timeouts. It was a clinic.
[22:16] Speaker 1: I think he went six to seven on that final drive.
[22:18] Speaker 1: He had an incredible scramble. When they showed the replay
[22:23] Speaker 1: at halftime of the Raider Charger game, it really put
[22:26] Speaker 1: into perspective like he should have been done. But he
[22:29] Speaker 1: did like this Alan iverson juke crossover move right as
[22:34] Speaker 1: like a blitzing linebacker was about to take him out,
[22:37] Speaker 1: makes a miss, and then he ran for like sixteen yards.
[22:39] Speaker 1: It was fourth and ten. Now they had three timeouts,
[22:42] Speaker 1: so who knows, maybe they could have got some stops
[22:44] Speaker 1: and got the ball back, but that was the play
[22:47] Speaker 1: of the game. And a little bit like the Bills
[22:50] Speaker 1: once they got Cook and he just changed their offense,
[22:54] Speaker 1: like they were good on offense before with Josh Allen,
[22:57] Speaker 1: but once number four became just one of the better
[23:00] Speaker 1: players at his position in the league. You're like the
[23:02] Speaker 1: Bills offense is dominant and they can play on any
[23:06] Speaker 1: given game, they can light you up like a Christmas tree,
[23:09] Speaker 1: and a big catalyst for them was finding that running back.
[23:13] Speaker 1: I would say the same thing for the Buccaneers, Like
[23:16] Speaker 1: Mike Evans is a Hall of Famer. You know, godwins
[23:18] Speaker 1: banged up right now, But when they have those two guys,
[23:20] Speaker 1: that's one of the best one to two combinations. They
[23:23] Speaker 1: add a Mecca Aboku from Ohio State who is just
[23:27] Speaker 1: a stud right now. He had a drop tonight. But
[23:30] Speaker 1: that guy could play for my team any day of
[23:32] Speaker 1: the week, and he's going to have a long career
[23:34] Speaker 1: in this league catching eighty to ninety balls, I promise
[23:38] Speaker 1: you that. So their wide receiver rooms never in question.
[23:41] Speaker 1: Remember a couple of years ago, it was like they're
[23:43] Speaker 1: the worst running team and like the history of the league,
[23:45] Speaker 1: I think that was Tom Brady's last season. Well, this
[23:48] Speaker 1: dude from Moregan, Bucky Irving, It's like that guy is
[23:52] Speaker 1: a badass. And White as well, who had the game
[23:55] Speaker 1: winning touchdown. Their physicality, they can run inside, they speed
[24:00] Speaker 1: to get on the outside, the tackles. Both of them,
[24:03] Speaker 1: especially Irving, can catch the ball. They're great in space.
[24:06] Speaker 1: To me, their offense is just so complete. And Baker
[24:09] Speaker 1: he has like this Farvan quality to him, where ITA's
[24:13] Speaker 1: just now. Farv was more talented, bigger arm. Obviously, I
[24:18] Speaker 1: mean far As one of the great players of all time.
[24:20] Speaker 1: But there's just something magical about watching this version of
[24:24] Speaker 1: Baker on Tampa. He's clearly over the last couple of years,
[24:27] Speaker 1: slimmed down, he's quicker, he just makes some big time
[24:31] Speaker 1: throws when he has to. He's a really really fun
[24:33] Speaker 1: player to watch. And that team's really good. I mean
[24:36] Speaker 1: to go on the road and they were winning that
[24:38] Speaker 1: game pretty like. I felt they were in complete control.
[24:41] Speaker 1: If it wasn't for their special teams unit. They got
[24:44] Speaker 1: the Houston Texans right back in the game. But they're
[24:46] Speaker 1: good on defense. You know, Todd Bowle is a really
[24:49] Speaker 1: aggressive defensive coordinator. They draft as well, if not better
[24:53] Speaker 1: than any team in the league. I mean, the majority
[24:56] Speaker 1: of their star players are all drafted guys. Honestly, like
[25:00] Speaker 1: Baker's the outlier of and think about that. I mean
[25:05] Speaker 1: Baker to be able to go from Tom to Baker
[25:08] Speaker 1: incredible transition to two free agent guys. Right, It's not
[25:12] Speaker 1: like they had in house. It's not like they had
[25:14] Speaker 1: some guy coming up the pike that was a third
[25:17] Speaker 1: rounder that learned behind Brady. It was like they signed
[25:19] Speaker 1: Brady one kicked ass, moved off, Brady signed Baker, winning
[25:24] Speaker 1: and kicking ass. And I listened. Obviously, a Landa probably
[25:28] Speaker 1: a little bit better this year on defense, especially after
[25:30] Speaker 1: that draft and adding Leonard Floyd, but Tampa's clearly still
[25:34] Speaker 1: the team to beat. And that was a big time win.
[25:38] Speaker 1: And what a gutsy performance. I mean, Baker's just getting crushed.
[25:42] Speaker 1: I mean, how many times did they hit him hard?
[25:44] Speaker 1: A couple of times he goes down, I like freaked out.
[25:47] Speaker 1: I'm like, oh my god, it's me and then he
[25:49] Speaker 1: kind of shake it off and he was good. But
[25:52] Speaker 1: that was that final drive is why we love football.
[25:58] Speaker 1: And on the flip side, listen, I got the Texans
[26:02] Speaker 1: in a couple you know, big time division winning parlays,
[26:06] Speaker 1: and they were my anchor. I do not feel great.
[26:09] Speaker 1: I'm not writing them off, but if I was a
[26:12] Speaker 1: betting man right now, I would like a little redode
[26:14] Speaker 1: to be able to insert the Indianapolis Colts. I think
[26:17] Speaker 1: there are two major problems because defensively is not their issue.
[26:20] Speaker 1: I know they gave up a game winning drive, but
[26:23] Speaker 1: they are going to be and they are one of
[26:25] Speaker 1: the more physical, faster defenses in the league, and those
[26:29] Speaker 1: two edge rushers are awesome. But offensively they got two
[26:33] Speaker 1: major problems. First and foremost, when your quarterback is a
[26:36] Speaker 1: little off and he's young, the easiest way to settle
[26:39] Speaker 1: anything down is running the football, running the ball, and
[26:44] Speaker 1: up until that Nick Chubb run, they cannot run the ball.
[26:49] Speaker 1: I would say, what's glaring is they have his defensive
[26:52] Speaker 1: coach in Demiko Ryans. Now, he's a younger guy, so
[26:55] Speaker 1: he doesn't feel like this archaic, older, you know, defensive
[26:59] Speaker 1: guy because he's like early forties. But typically defensive guys
[27:04] Speaker 1: like to run the ball. Yet you look at their
[27:06] Speaker 1: running back room and forever when the Texans now, they
[27:08] Speaker 1: never had playoff success, but they were a really good
[27:11] Speaker 1: team early on with Kubiak, and then when they transitioned
[27:15] Speaker 1: to Bill O'Brien. With Kubiak, I mean, they were one
[27:18] Speaker 1: of the best. I think they led the league in
[27:20] Speaker 1: rushing several times with Arian Foster and running that Shanahan's
[27:24] Speaker 1: zone running scheme. They were incredible. And then to Bill O'Brien,
[27:27] Speaker 1: they always had good running backs like Alfred Blue and
[27:29] Speaker 1: other guys that they could run the ball. I'm watching
[27:32] Speaker 1: this team and I go, you're depending on Nick Chubb
[27:35] Speaker 1: that like two years ago had his leg bent in
[27:38] Speaker 1: two different directions. Like that's who you're and we're all
[27:41] Speaker 1: rooting for him, but like, that's what you're depending on,
[27:44] Speaker 1: And I think part of that manifested itself into your
[27:48] Speaker 1: offensive lines. Not great at pass blocking, obviously got some injuries,
[27:52] Speaker 1: but your quarterbacks really off right like tonight, like Gino
[27:55] Speaker 1: just presses a little bit. They don't have great talent,
[27:58] Speaker 1: and sometimes he can just look a little weird against
[28:01] Speaker 1: better competition, but he always kind of looks like Geno Smith.
[28:03] Speaker 1: A couple of years ago, I thought c J. Stroud,
[28:06] Speaker 1: this guy's gonna be a top five quarterback in the
[28:07] Speaker 1: league and you watch him tonight and there's no other
[28:11] Speaker 1: takeaway that comes away of like what's going on? And
[28:15] Speaker 1: I hate this term, but like I think it gets
[28:18] Speaker 1: thrown around a little too liberally at times. But the
[28:21] Speaker 1: regression term, like, I don't think he's getting worse, but
[28:25] Speaker 1: I think regression in the NFL is not like taking
[28:28] Speaker 1: the next step. You look at Baker, it's like from
[28:30] Speaker 1: the last couple of years, it just feels like he
[28:32] Speaker 1: keeps getting better. You look at Herbert, he just keeps
[28:34] Speaker 1: getting better, right, Josh Allen Lamar, they just keep getting better.
[28:38] Speaker 1: And you're watching CJ. Stroud, It's like, what's going on here?
[28:43] Speaker 1: He's missing open guys, he just has It's just off.
[28:49] Speaker 1: I just wrote down, like, is CJ. Stroud a really
[28:52] Speaker 1: good player right now? And the answer is no. Is
[28:54] Speaker 1: c J. Stroud a dependable player right now? And sometimes
[28:58] Speaker 1: it's it's intermixed with the scheme, the coordinator, the offensive line,
[29:02] Speaker 1: but there is no disputing this thing is off. And
[29:05] Speaker 1: they drafted them number two overall and after the first year,
[29:08] Speaker 1: you would have bet the house that this guy was
[29:10] Speaker 1: gonna be a dominant franchise quarterback. And now we're a
[29:13] Speaker 1: year and a half later or a year and two
[29:16] Speaker 1: games later, and we got concerns. I mean, there's no
[29:19] Speaker 1: other way around it. Thank god this defense is as
[29:21] Speaker 1: good as they are, because this offense is shitty right now.
[29:25] Speaker 1: It's just not good. And to me, it starts no
[29:27] Speaker 1: running game. You can't take any of the pressure off
[29:29] Speaker 1: the quarterback, and then he feels like he's got to
[29:32] Speaker 1: play hero ball a little bit like Gino tonight, and
[29:35] Speaker 1: it just looks bad. He's missing guys behind him, he's
[29:38] Speaker 1: overthrowing guys. You just something's just off, and I don't
[29:43] Speaker 1: know how to pinpoint it. They switched offensive coordinators, they
[29:47] Speaker 1: tweaked the scheme. I know people around Houston were bullish
[29:51] Speaker 1: on this move, but I would say as of a
[29:53] Speaker 1: couple games, they got to be concerned. And I don't
[29:58] Speaker 1: know exactly what the answer is. Like, you don't just
[30:00] Speaker 1: find sweet offensive linemen who are sitting at home or
[30:04] Speaker 1: on practice squads, so you got to try to make
[30:06] Speaker 1: this work. But when you're running back room, it's not
[30:09] Speaker 1: like Saquon Barkley ain't walking through that door, or you
[30:12] Speaker 1: can't just pick up the phone and like find some
[30:14] Speaker 1: Barry Sanders around like this kind of is what it is.
[30:17] Speaker 1: So I don't think it's really going to improve, which
[30:20] Speaker 1: could cost him because Indy now's already got a two
[30:22] Speaker 1: game lead and they just look good, right, I mean
[30:25] Speaker 1: that's if you just put like Jonathan Taylor on the
[30:27] Speaker 1: Texans got news for you, it would help a lot. Now,
[30:29] Speaker 1: maybe Casario coming from New England, they don't value that
[30:33] Speaker 1: position as much because for a long time, especially that
[30:35] Speaker 1: second iteration of like the Gronk Edelman mccordy, you know,
[30:39] Speaker 1: teams around Tom they kind of piece mailed the running
[30:42] Speaker 1: back position from the Deon Lewis's, the Shane Verens, they
[30:44] Speaker 1: just had a lot of different body types and Lea
[30:47] Speaker 1: Garrett Blunt. But I do think just getting a bellcow
[30:50] Speaker 1: running back to go with CJ. Stroud, Like, I don't
[30:53] Speaker 1: know if these guys are ever gonna live up to
[30:54] Speaker 1: the billing genty and and O'marion Hampton for the Chargers,
[31:01] Speaker 1: but like I like the logic, just get a guy
[31:03] Speaker 1: we can depend on and give the ball to twenty
[31:05] Speaker 1: four times a game, right. The Texans do not have that,
[31:09] Speaker 1: and it is evident when you watch them in some
[31:11] Speaker 1: of these games, like this is a problem and I
[31:15] Speaker 1: just don't know if it's going to be fixed. So
[31:17] Speaker 1: massive win for Tampa. The Texans got some issues. I mean,
[31:21] Speaker 1: they got some major issues that I don't think you
[31:23] Speaker 1: can fix overnight. Okay, a couple other things before we
[31:27] Speaker 1: get out of here. We have a quarterback situation on
[31:33] Speaker 1: our hands right now. You know, Burrows out for three
[31:36] Speaker 1: months and if they free fall, like we're just gonna
[31:39] Speaker 1: see the Jake Browning Show the rest of the year,
[31:42] Speaker 1: which I actually looked. He's five and three in his
[31:44] Speaker 1: career as a starter, and I mentioned this to Colin
[31:47] Speaker 1: a couple of days ago. He's the most improved player
[31:50] Speaker 1: from college to the pros I've ever seen. In my
[31:53] Speaker 1: entire life. I've been wrong on guys like I didn't
[31:56] Speaker 1: think Jalen Hurts would be a good NFL quarterback. But
[31:59] Speaker 1: like Gay playing at Oklahoma, he's playing at Alabama. He
[32:02] Speaker 1: could run, he did have a strong deep ball. I
[32:06] Speaker 1: just never thought he could be a guy who could
[32:08] Speaker 1: just lead you to Super Bowls. I mean, so I
[32:10] Speaker 1: was wrong on I didn't think Jake brown could make
[32:12] Speaker 1: it through a training camp a try. I thought he'd
[32:15] Speaker 1: be out of the league in a year, like he's
[32:16] Speaker 1: going to play in the league for a decade, but
[32:19] Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Like you lose Joe Burrow when your team
[32:21] Speaker 1: is dependent to even win nine games last year, the
[32:25] Speaker 1: guy had to throw whatever forty five touchdowns, Like, I
[32:28] Speaker 1: just don't think this guy can match it. I think
[32:29] Speaker 1: there's gonna be a drop off, and I'm out on
[32:31] Speaker 1: the Bengals now. They probably won't be as bad as
[32:35] Speaker 1: maybe I initially thought twenty four hours ago, but I'm
[32:38] Speaker 1: out on them now. The other guys you got JJ
[32:41] Speaker 1: McCarthy hurt his ankle. I know they wrapped it during
[32:44] Speaker 1: the game. If I wanted to go a conspiracy middle
[32:47] Speaker 1: cooff here, I'd go, he hurt his ankle, slash, like,
[32:51] Speaker 1: give him a little breather. Feels like he's a little
[32:53] Speaker 1: over his head. But I also, if I wanted to
[32:56] Speaker 1: push back against my conspiracy, like, you'd want to get
[32:59] Speaker 1: this guy wrapped because you got to find out if
[33:01] Speaker 1: he could play or not. So you're going to Carson Wentz,
[33:04] Speaker 1: who I saw a stat that this is his six
[33:08] Speaker 1: years starting for six different teams, which is crazy. It
[33:11] Speaker 1: shows you how long he's been gone from the Eagles.
[33:13] Speaker 1: Does not feel like he's been gone for the Eagles
[33:15] Speaker 1: for six years. Shows you how long Jalen has been
[33:17] Speaker 1: starting now for Philly. But he's played it a lot
[33:20] Speaker 1: of you know, from the Chiefs to the Rams to
[33:22] Speaker 1: now Minnesota. He's made the rounds and is he any good?
[33:28] Speaker 1: I don't know. At this point in time. The Vikis
[33:30] Speaker 1: could have a problem, you know. Dan Quinn came out
[33:34] Speaker 1: today and said that, you know, Jayden Daniels was also
[33:37] Speaker 1: rumored to be out several weeks. He claimed him day
[33:39] Speaker 1: to day, but I think this week is vary in question.
[33:44] Speaker 1: Mac Jones, in his one win on the road, earned
[33:48] Speaker 1: his salary. If your backup has to start a couple games,
[33:51] Speaker 1: if you can win one of them, that is a
[33:54] Speaker 1: major win. You don't get style points, no one judges
[33:57] Speaker 1: you on individual plays or passes. Just win the game
[34:00] Speaker 1: and get out of there with your backup quarterback. That's
[34:03] Speaker 1: a different situation than the Jake Browning Joe Burrow win
[34:07] Speaker 1: the guys out for the year. But in situations where
[34:09] Speaker 1: a guy has a rolled ankle, when a guy has
[34:12] Speaker 1: a banged up knee and he's gonna miss a game,
[34:14] Speaker 1: maybe two games, can you just win a game? Can
[34:17] Speaker 1: you keep the team competitive? The bar is really really low,
[34:21] Speaker 1: and that's where the pressure on the front office on
[34:24] Speaker 1: to sign a guy who is your backup quarterback, who's
[34:28] Speaker 1: more than just a clipboard holder, who is more than
[34:31] Speaker 1: just assistant coach in the meeting room. It's a guy
[34:35] Speaker 1: that's credible, who can take snaps and make some place
[34:39] Speaker 1: and also brings that to the table as well. So
[34:41] Speaker 1: it's gonna be under the microscope now in some of
[34:44] Speaker 1: these different organizations with Mariota, with Carson Wentz, because let's
[34:48] Speaker 1: face it, Minnesota Washington, these teams don't have like we're
[34:52] Speaker 1: hoping to win nine or ten games. The hope of
[34:54] Speaker 1: those two teams was like compete for the NFC Championship Game,
[34:57] Speaker 1: right to compete for our division. Oh, it's gonna be fascinating.
[35:02] Speaker 1: I don't know how all these guys get hurt, but
[35:05] Speaker 1: I yeah, it's just it's crazy. Uh. The other couple
[35:09] Speaker 1: things is the more and more I think about it,
[35:16] Speaker 1: for Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, if not now, then win.
[35:20] Speaker 1: I think one of those guys this season has to
[35:22] Speaker 1: represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The Bills or
[35:25] Speaker 1: the Ravens have to win the AFC. If they don't,
[35:28] Speaker 1: it is a major disappointment. Clearly, the Chiefs, they're not
[35:33] Speaker 1: gonna go oh in seventeen. If I had to bet
[35:36] Speaker 1: right now, they'll be nine or ten wins. It's gonna
[35:38] Speaker 1: be a tougher season for them. You know, even a
[35:41] Speaker 1: guy like Worthy comes back, does his shoulder get reinjured?
[35:44] Speaker 1: What is Rashid Rice? He's not just suspended, he was
[35:46] Speaker 1: also injured last year. That it's gonna be a little
[35:49] Speaker 1: We thought the transition year was gonna be last year
[35:51] Speaker 1: and they made the Super Bowl. Maybe it's this year.
[35:53] Speaker 1: But it's like the Chargers. We'll see with Mac the Broncos,
[35:56] Speaker 1: they have a second year quarterback. Still a lot of
[35:58] Speaker 1: question marks. One of these two teams. Then listen, I
[36:00] Speaker 1: give them both credit. The Bills, it would have been easy.
[36:03] Speaker 1: You get a massive win. You're playing the Jets to
[36:05] Speaker 1: just kind of cruise control, boom, they're up twenty to nothing.
[36:09] Speaker 1: The Ravens coming off a big loss. I get it.
[36:11] Speaker 1: You're playing the Browns, but they treated Belta ass forty
[36:15] Speaker 1: one to you know, it should have been like forty
[36:18] Speaker 1: one to ten. But the Ravens or the brown scored
[36:20] Speaker 1: a meaningless touchdown. But both those two teams are so good,
[36:25] Speaker 1: these two quarterbacks are so dominant. But to me, the
[36:28] Speaker 1: theme with these two guys this year, in these two
[36:31] Speaker 1: organizations is its super Bowl bit or bust. If we're
[36:37] Speaker 1: not winning the AFC, it is a major disappointment. Now
[36:40] Speaker 1: there's only I would say two teams. Now I would
[36:43] Speaker 1: throw the Eagles in as well, and you could argue
[36:46] Speaker 1: the Packers just because the trade, but they haven't been
[36:49] Speaker 1: in the Super Bowl in twenty ten. There are two
[36:52] Speaker 1: teams that can be disappointed if they don't win the
[36:54] Speaker 1: Super Bowl. That'd be the Chiefs. They've been to five
[36:56] Speaker 1: or six of them, and the Eagles they've been two
[36:58] Speaker 1: of the last three and they're defending champs. But I
[37:01] Speaker 1: think anything less than winning the AFC when you got
[37:04] Speaker 1: Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson in their prime and the way
[37:07] Speaker 1: this league is kind of kind of playing out, it's
[37:10] Speaker 1: gonna be disappointing. And I would say, on a lesser level,
[37:13] Speaker 1: now that Burrow's out, Mike Tomlin better have like a
[37:17] Speaker 1: rally the troops speech because this defense, which I bought into,
[37:21] Speaker 1: I'm like, I kind of understand why they made some
[37:23] Speaker 1: of these moves getting rid of Minka at these corners.
[37:25] Speaker 1: You got a sweet defensive line. There's gonna be this tough,
[37:28] Speaker 1: physical team one of the you know, even if they're
[37:30] Speaker 1: not top two or three defense, I be like a
[37:31] Speaker 1: top six or seven defense. Rogers will just solidify them
[37:35] Speaker 1: a little bit. Instead, they kind of feel like a joke.
[37:38] Speaker 1: They can't run the ball, they have no physicality on offense,
[37:41] Speaker 1: and defensively they're getting shredded. It's like, what's going on here?
[37:45] Speaker 1: Got you're down twenty four to seventeen. You need to
[37:47] Speaker 1: stop and you can't get it. They go right down
[37:48] Speaker 1: the field score a touchdown. So this is a type
[37:51] Speaker 1: game you got Burrow now out for the season. If
[37:53] Speaker 1: you're Tomlin playing the Patriots this week, Like, if you
[37:56] Speaker 1: can't win this game pretty handily, I might just be
[38:00] Speaker 1: on this team. Now. I wouldn't say they're gonna have
[38:02] Speaker 1: like a Jets type season like last year, but this
[38:04] Speaker 1: thing could get really weird. You know. Part of the
[38:07] Speaker 1: reason you take an older version of Aaron Rodgers, Like
[38:10] Speaker 1: we got Mike Tomlin. He can just handle this situation.
[38:13] Speaker 1: Something is off in that organization. And I bought into
[38:16] Speaker 1: the Kumbaya honeymoon phase that was their training camp and
[38:20] Speaker 1: now you're watching them through two weeks, like, what the
[38:22] Speaker 1: fuck is this? So I listen, there's not pressure on
[38:26] Speaker 1: the Steelers to make it to the super Bowl, but
[38:29] Speaker 1: if they missed the playoffs with the way this AFC
[38:32] Speaker 1: is shaping out, especially in their division, where now now
[38:35] Speaker 1: the Bengals like feel like you can check them off
[38:36] Speaker 1: and the Browns are a joke. Double digit favorites or
[38:40] Speaker 1: underdogs back to back weeks. It's week two and three,
[38:42] Speaker 1: it's the middle of September, and you're already ten eleven,
[38:46] Speaker 1: twelve point underdog. Like that's pretty embarrassing. So it shows
[38:50] Speaker 1: you like the Steelers. Mike Tomlin like this, this is
[38:52] Speaker 1: a pretty big week. And I'll end on this. We
[38:56] Speaker 1: have some recent history of guys resurrecting their career. We
[39:00] Speaker 1: saw it tonight, I mean two or three years ago,
[39:03] Speaker 1: before he got to Tampa. You know, we talked about
[39:07] Speaker 1: Geno Smith. Haters wrote him off. Most people weren't even
[39:10] Speaker 1: haters were just writing Baker off. We didn't think he
[39:12] Speaker 1: was any good. Everyone before last year made fun of
[39:15] Speaker 1: Sam Donald. These guys resurrected their career. I mean, Baker
[39:18] Speaker 1: is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, and
[39:20] Speaker 1: Sam Donald is a legitimate starter, right, Daniel Jones. Listen,
[39:26] Speaker 1: the Giant situation, it's just a bizarre place. And ever
[39:30] Speaker 1: since they got rid of Tom or I almost said Tomlin,
[39:33] Speaker 1: Tom Koughlin, they have just been losing year in year out.
[39:37] Speaker 1: They do feel like they're a little bit better this year,
[39:40] Speaker 1: but again they're gonna lose a lot, and they're gonna
[39:43] Speaker 1: be best case scenario like seven and ten and if
[39:45] Speaker 1: you had to bet, probably more like five or six wins.
[39:47] Speaker 1: People just lose there and listen, Daniel Jones was objectively
[39:51] Speaker 1: awful last year. He was terrible, even in the year
[39:55] Speaker 1: where they went whatever nine and eight and beat the Vikings.
[39:58] Speaker 1: Look at a status. It's not like he threw forty touchdowns.
[40:01] Speaker 1: He has never been like even when he's good, that good.
[40:05] Speaker 1: But the way he's playing early on in this season
[40:07] Speaker 1: is pretty impressive. And sometimes his comp coming out of
[40:11] Speaker 1: college was Alex Smith. That's what he was. He was
[40:15] Speaker 1: gonna be like Alex Smith. Now. Should Alex Smith looking back,
[40:18] Speaker 1: have been drafted number one overall, probably not. This guy
[40:21] Speaker 1: named Aaron Rodgers should have gone. Should Daniel Jones have
[40:23] Speaker 1: been drafted six overall? Probably not. But when you watch
[40:26] Speaker 1: him play, you go he's tall, he's really athletic, he's
[40:31] Speaker 1: got a solid arm. And right now, here's what the
[40:34] Speaker 1: Colts got a lot of skill guys. They have several
[40:38] Speaker 1: wide receivers, they have a tight end who looks fantastic.
[40:42] Speaker 1: And here's where you gotta be careful in the draft.
[40:44] Speaker 1: Everyone's like Loveland out of Michigan. He's twitchier, he's faster,
[40:48] Speaker 1: he's more explosive, he's the better ceiling. It's like Tyler
[40:51] Speaker 1: Warren's just he's he's not as good of an athlete.
[40:55] Speaker 1: Will his skills translate to the open field, to the
[40:58] Speaker 1: NFL speed, It's like, yeah, actually, he's just a really
[41:01] Speaker 1: good football player. Instincts, his just natural feel for space. Obviously,
[41:06] Speaker 1: his ball skills are elite. Like, the guy's gonna make
[41:08] Speaker 1: Pro Bowls. Is he ever gonna be Gronkowski or Kittle?
[41:12] Speaker 1: Maybe not, but I'll promise you this, he's gonna be
[41:14] Speaker 1: really good player for a long period of time. And
[41:17] Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor is clearly one of the best running backs
[41:20] Speaker 1: in the NFL. So for a guy that had a
[41:22] Speaker 1: lot of question marks that everyone rode off, went to
[41:24] Speaker 1: a really, really good spot and looks pretty good. So
[41:28] Speaker 1: I do think there is a chance, like long way
[41:32] Speaker 1: to go. I wouldn't just put this team at like
[41:34] Speaker 1: eleven or twelve wins now, but clearly they're gonna be
[41:37] Speaker 1: pretty good. They can move the football and defensively, it's
[41:41] Speaker 1: just it's hard to be as horrendous as they were
[41:44] Speaker 1: the last couple of years with Gus Bradley. Loui Amruno
[41:47] Speaker 1: was viewed as a really good coach a couple of
[41:48] Speaker 1: years ago when he had good players in Cincinnati. He's
[41:50] Speaker 1: a good defensive coordinator. So they upgraded their coaching staff.
[41:53] Speaker 1: They have good offensive pieces, and they got a guy
[41:56] Speaker 1: like why couldn't he have like a Sam Dormold type moment,
[41:59] Speaker 1: a Gino Smith type moment, And if he does, if
[42:02] Speaker 1: this continues, he is gonna save their jobs. So while
[42:05] Speaker 1: the owner is on the sideline with the earpiece on
[42:08] Speaker 1: taking notes at the end of the day, whether she
[42:10] Speaker 1: knows what they're saying or not, whether it's all performative
[42:14] Speaker 1: and it's just she just wants to be seen on
[42:16] Speaker 1: the sideline, or it's real, she's like doing some serious
[42:19] Speaker 1: judgment judgments of what everyone's saying. The only thing at
[42:22] Speaker 1: the end of the day. That's going to matter is
[42:24] Speaker 1: like you go eleven and six and you win the division.
[42:27] Speaker 1: That's gonna trump everything that she's writing down in her
[42:30] Speaker 1: stupid little notebook. So, if I'm Chris Ballard and I'm
[42:34] Speaker 1: Shane Steiken, my job was on the line. My seat
[42:37] Speaker 1: was scolding hot. It felt like the organization was about
[42:40] Speaker 1: to fall apart because of the whiff of our draft
[42:44] Speaker 1: pick on Anthony Richardson. Who would have thought Daniel Jones
[42:49] Speaker 1: might be their lifeline? Okay, Middlecoff mailbag at John Middlecoff
[43:07] Speaker 1: is the Instagram fire in those dms, get your questions
[43:10] Speaker 1: answered here on the show. I have a lot of
[43:13] Speaker 1: mailbag questions, so I will I'll try to bank them
[43:16] Speaker 1: out over the next couple of days. Jonah. In this
[43:20] Speaker 1: last week's game between the Eagles and Chiefs, the start
[43:23] Speaker 1: of the end when it comes to the tush push.
[43:26] Speaker 1: The Eagles game highlighted what's broken about the toush push
[43:30] Speaker 1: with players from both sides jumping off sides. Ignoring all
[43:34] Speaker 1: of that and focusing on what tush push supporters have
[43:36] Speaker 1: said is that other teams could do it if they
[43:39] Speaker 1: wanted to. The NBA changed how free throws were taken
[43:43] Speaker 1: because Wilt Chamberlain was dunking his free throws. I don't
[43:49] Speaker 1: remember that. I might need to google that he was
[43:51] Speaker 1: dunking his free throws, might need to get caught up
[43:54] Speaker 1: here on basketball history. But I'm gonna take I'm gonna
[43:58] Speaker 1: believe you. I think that press for the NFL to
[44:01] Speaker 1: ban it, even if Jalen Hurts is the only player
[44:03] Speaker 1: capable of doing I think it's pretty simple. There was
[44:06] Speaker 1: a groundswell of support to get rid of it last year.
[44:10] Speaker 1: The Eagles did a good job of campaigning and fending
[44:13] Speaker 1: it off, but I don't think that's gonna go anywhere,
[44:16] Speaker 1: and watching that one of the best and most I
[44:21] Speaker 1: don't know. The beauty of football is the unknown. On
[44:24] Speaker 1: a given play, you don't know what's coming, and even
[44:29] Speaker 1: if you have some idea, it is not inevitable. It's like, hey,
[44:32] Speaker 1: it's fourth and one, they're gonna give it to Derrick Henry,
[44:36] Speaker 1: or they're gonna have Patrick Mahomes rollout or whatever. You
[44:38] Speaker 1: don't know if they're gonna get the first down, right,
[44:41] Speaker 1: I don't care if Tom Brady Patrick Mahomes your quarterback
[44:44] Speaker 1: or Bryce Young's your quarterback. Anything can happen on any
[44:47] Speaker 1: given play, and that's not the case with a toushbush.
[44:50] Speaker 1: If several teams could pull it off, which clearly they cannot,
[44:55] Speaker 1: but even if the number and I'm stealing this from
[44:57] Speaker 1: somewhere because I heard someone mention this in the last
[45:00] Speaker 1: twenty four hours, this play would have been gone if
[45:04] Speaker 1: it was something that everyone was doing, even if a
[45:07] Speaker 1: quarter of the league was doing it, because it's the
[45:10] Speaker 1: most boring play we've ever seen. Because even with a
[45:13] Speaker 1: quarterback sneak, you don't know if they're gonna get it,
[45:16] Speaker 1: and they get denied all the time. This play they
[45:18] Speaker 1: always get it. They always get it, and if it's
[45:21] Speaker 1: even close, they're third and one, they're rolling it out there,
[45:25] Speaker 1: so they basically get two plays to always get a
[45:27] Speaker 1: first down. And it just sucks. Now I get if
[45:29] Speaker 1: you're an Eagle fan, like, screw you guys, right, it's
[45:33] Speaker 1: a legal play, and technically it is legal, but it's
[45:36] Speaker 1: really boring and it's not consumer friendly. And the one
[45:38] Speaker 1: thing the NFL is good about when it's anti consumer
[45:41] Speaker 1: they will pivot. So this play, the Eagles better take
[45:44] Speaker 1: advantage of this because they are going to ban this play.
[45:47] Speaker 1: My guess would be this offseason, but it's gonna live
[45:50] Speaker 1: throughout the season. The Niners were getting a lot of
[45:54] Speaker 1: heat for the amount of injuries that they have, but
[45:56] Speaker 1: look what's happening around the league, injuries mounting all over
[46:00] Speaker 1: the place. Do you think that perhaps the NFL should
[46:02] Speaker 1: allow teams to go full pads in training camp and
[46:05] Speaker 1: allow them to hit more often two a days, etc.
[46:08] Speaker 1: Seems like these soft training camps could be a problem.
[46:11] Speaker 1: Two days are never coming back. Ever, that's never happening.
[46:15] Speaker 1: They got in the twenty eleven CBA. I got into
[46:19] Speaker 1: the NFL in twenty ten, Andy Reid had a couple
[46:21] Speaker 1: weeks of two days. It was intense. That next year
[46:24] Speaker 1: the lockout happened, hold out, strike, whatever the hell it was.
[46:28] Speaker 1: I guess it was a lockout. And one thing the
[46:31] Speaker 1: players were adamant about doing was more time off and
[46:34] Speaker 1: that has not changed in fifteen years and that is
[46:36] Speaker 1: not going to change. So to me, two a days
[46:39] Speaker 1: is never coming back. But when you have a practice
[46:42] Speaker 1: you can't hit, you can tackle to the ground like
[46:45] Speaker 1: nothing is holding these teams back from being really physical.
[46:49] Speaker 1: Andy Reid's practices are still really physical. If you went
[46:52] Speaker 1: to one of their training camps and their players talk
[46:54] Speaker 1: about this. A lot of players that come in free
[46:57] Speaker 1: agency are stunned by how intense it is because when
[47:01] Speaker 1: you do practice, even though you only get one true
[47:04] Speaker 1: padded practice a day, and then I think it's like
[47:07] Speaker 1: every four days during training camp you have to give
[47:09] Speaker 1: them an off day, but you could tackle to the ground.
[47:12] Speaker 1: No one's holding that back from you. Now, I understand
[47:17] Speaker 1: for a lot of people are like, hey, I got
[47:20] Speaker 1: ten plus guys on my team making over fifteen million dollars.
[47:23] Speaker 1: If one of them gets injured in a tackle a practice,
[47:27] Speaker 1: that's hard to stomach. So I think the finances of
[47:31] Speaker 1: the sport has dramatically shifted the mindset. And I don't
[47:37] Speaker 1: know if there's any way of putting the toothpaste back
[47:38] Speaker 1: in the tube on this one. So are these guys
[47:42] Speaker 1: rolling ankles and hurting knees and getting turf toe because
[47:44] Speaker 1: of practice? I'm the wrong guy to answer this question.
[47:48] Speaker 1: I have a couple, you know, an undergraduate and a
[47:51] Speaker 1: graduate degrees that are completely worthless, and I learned nothing
[47:54] Speaker 1: in the classroom. So I can't tell you I don't know,
[47:58] Speaker 1: but through my experience I can say there's no perfect
[48:02] Speaker 1: way to do this. Clearly, there's a reason you spar
[48:06] Speaker 1: before a boxing match or UFC before you get in
[48:10] Speaker 1: the octagon, right, you want to build up the calluses.
[48:13] Speaker 1: And there's got to be something to it that back
[48:16] Speaker 1: in the day. I've had people tell me, and I
[48:18] Speaker 1: do think there's some validity to this. Is in the seventies,
[48:23] Speaker 1: the eighties and nineties, these guys did not train three
[48:27] Speaker 1: hundred and sixty five days a year like they do now,
[48:30] Speaker 1: Like a huge part of rest in recovery is just
[48:33] Speaker 1: that not doing anything. And let's use McCaffrey as an example.
[48:38] Speaker 1: I admire his work ethic, but does training basically all
[48:42] Speaker 1: year round is that good for your body? Now, there's
[48:45] Speaker 1: got to be a balance, right, what these guys do
[48:47] Speaker 1: now and the information they have and the way they
[48:49] Speaker 1: eat is surely better than a dude in like the eighties.
[48:53] Speaker 1: But like did Barry Sanders and Walter Payton and some
[48:56] Speaker 1: of these guys back in the day, we miss a
[48:57] Speaker 1: lot of time. It doesn't feel like it, So I
[49:00] Speaker 1: don't know. I don't have a great answer to this.
[49:03] Speaker 1: There are things that I think we laugh at about
[49:06] Speaker 1: the old timers that like, yeah, smoking cigarettes, you know,
[49:10] Speaker 1: during training camp, probably not a great idea, but come
[49:13] Speaker 1: into training camp a little out of shape and then
[49:15] Speaker 1: getting after it for a month. If you look at
[49:18] Speaker 1: some of these guys' game logs, maybe it was better now.
[49:20] Speaker 1: Maybe if you see some of them walk around and
[49:22] Speaker 1: move now. I don't know, I don't, I don't know,
[49:26] Speaker 1: but whatever's happening, guys dropping like flies. This is not
[49:29] Speaker 1: a sustainable model. The way we're at right now. I mean,
[49:32] Speaker 1: speaking to this with Cincinnati, it's looking like it won't
[49:35] Speaker 1: ever change anytime soon. Who do you think will be
[49:38] Speaker 1: the bigger what if athlete when it's all said and done,
[49:42] Speaker 1: Burrow or Andrew Luck. It's a great question. I do
[49:47] Speaker 1: think Andrew Luck was a better player. Again, I'm nitpicking here.
[49:50] Speaker 1: I mean Burrow's excellent as well. But Burrow does have
[49:54] Speaker 1: the Super Bowl berth and beating Patrick Mahomes. Andrew never
[49:58] Speaker 1: won the af Championship, though he got there one time
[50:02] Speaker 1: and then got his teeth kicked in by the Patriots.
[50:04] Speaker 1: If I remember correctly, I think both are heading that way.
[50:09] Speaker 1: The difference is Andrew just kind of disappeared. He was
[50:13] Speaker 1: just gone. You know, Burrow, we see him play. I
[50:16] Speaker 1: feel like we see Burrow play more and then he
[50:18] Speaker 1: gets injured. I'd have to do like a thorough breakdown
[50:22] Speaker 1: and compare year to year. Yeah, I mean, I would
[50:27] Speaker 1: say it's not good. Now. Luck had a bad shoulder injury,
[50:34] Speaker 1: which has a huge impact on how you throw the ball.
[50:39] Speaker 1: Where Burrow you know this turf toe injury, which, let's
[50:43] Speaker 1: face it ruins a season. If you tell me three
[50:46] Speaker 1: month injury, it's like, well, do the math. Mid October,
[50:49] Speaker 1: mid November, mid December, Like it's over. You'd bet on
[50:53] Speaker 1: he's gonna rehab to come back with three games left,
[50:57] Speaker 1: especially if they're losing no chance. So I think sometimes
[51:01] Speaker 1: there are franchises that just feel doomed. And that's kind
[51:04] Speaker 1: of what Mike Brown the Cincinnati Bengals feel like. Yeah,
[51:09] Speaker 1: I don't really know. I would say they're both in
[51:12] Speaker 1: a category that is shitty for us. The more good quarterbacks,
[51:16] Speaker 1: the more great players, the better the sport is. Right,
[51:19] Speaker 1: The less Joe Burrows and Andrew lux that are playing
[51:22] Speaker 1: on Sundays, the worse it is. And I'm in the
[51:25] Speaker 1: business to have this sport be as well received and
[51:31] Speaker 1: watched by as many people as humanly possible. So I
[51:35] Speaker 1: think it sucks. When Joe Burrow gets injured, it has
[51:39] Speaker 1: a negative impact on the product. There's no way around it.
[51:46] Speaker 1: I feel like baseball and basketball franchises like the Rockies
[51:49] Speaker 1: and Hornets that I sometimes forget are even still around.
[51:53] Speaker 1: Does the NFL have any franchises that could be considered irrelevant?
[51:57] Speaker 1: I feel like there are franchises that are off, but
[52:00] Speaker 1: also that football is so popular that there is a
[52:03] Speaker 1: rising tide lift all boats situation that will keep any
[52:07] Speaker 1: NFL franchise from becoming irrelevant. You know, if the Rockies
[52:11] Speaker 1: are good, let's use the example. If the Rockies are
[52:13] Speaker 1: good or the Hornets are good, which they're not very often,
[52:16] Speaker 1: but let's just say they are a playoff team, they
[52:18] Speaker 1: still don't really matter. And that's where I think it
[52:21] Speaker 1: dramatically is different in the NFL, like right now the Panthers.
[52:25] Speaker 1: Like when I look over and I see a Panthers
[52:27] Speaker 1: game like playing the Cardinals, I know that game does
[52:30] Speaker 1: not matter for what I do. I'm not going to
[52:33] Speaker 1: talk about it. It's just not going to be something
[52:36] Speaker 1: relevant yet. If the Eagles, the Cowboys, the Packers, the
[52:40] Speaker 1: forty nine ers were in that situation, it would be
[52:43] Speaker 1: something that I would pay closer attention to right, because
[52:46] Speaker 1: their brands, their fan bases are dramatically bigger. But we've
[52:50] Speaker 1: seen the Panthers be really good with Cam Newton and
[52:52] Speaker 1: they they're playing primetime games and they rate and they matter, right.
[52:57] Speaker 1: So I think the difference in the NFL than the
[53:00] Speaker 1: NBA is they have franchises. When they suck, we just
[53:03] Speaker 1: kind of whatever, who cares? Don't You don't even need
[53:06] Speaker 1: to talk or think about them right where It's like
[53:08] Speaker 1: in the NBA, if the Lakers suck, they're still getting
[53:10] Speaker 1: talked about all the time. If the Warriors suck, they're
[53:13] Speaker 1: still getting talked about all the time. The Knicks as well. Baseball,
[53:16] Speaker 1: if the Yankees or Red Sox or Dodgers are down,
[53:18] Speaker 1: like there's still a major talking point. But the difference
[53:20] Speaker 1: is if the Rockies are good, still no one's paying attention.
[53:24] Speaker 1: Where if these other teams that aren't quote unquote huge
[53:27] Speaker 1: brands and nationally relevant are good, we're all watching and
[53:33] Speaker 1: they will get big numbers on Sunday Night football, on
[53:38] Speaker 1: Monday night football, Thursday night football, big games on Sunday afternoon.
[53:41] Speaker 1: I mean, I see it in my own YouTube numbers
[53:44] Speaker 1: with like the Atlanta Falcons like their brand like relative
[53:48] Speaker 1: to other NFL teams, is not as big. But if
[53:51] Speaker 1: they have back to back years of winning like eleven
[53:53] Speaker 1: or twelve games, like with Matty Ice and Julio Jones,
[53:57] Speaker 1: they will become a team that people are accustomed to
[54:01] Speaker 1: watching on big games. But it did feel, you know,
[54:04] Speaker 1: even Week two Atlanta Minnesota, Atlanta felt a little out
[54:08] Speaker 1: of place, and in fairness, they won the game. Question
[54:11] Speaker 1: for the bag. Thoughts on Spencer Rattler and the improvements
[54:14] Speaker 1: he's made to start this season. He's looked better than
[54:17] Speaker 1: Caleb Williams despite being in a worse situation. Hot take.
[54:22] Speaker 1: Not sure how much worse his situation is. I think
[54:25] Speaker 1: the Saints Actually, I was texting a buddy, was like,
[54:27] Speaker 1: you know what, I think the Saints have good offensive personnel.
[54:31] Speaker 1: They have Chris Lave, they have Shaheen. I mean, those
[54:33] Speaker 1: two wide receivers are good. They traded for I might
[54:37] Speaker 1: screw up his name, val Vala from Denver, who had
[54:41] Speaker 1: a touchdown against the Niners. Who's a big bodied guy.
[54:44] Speaker 1: They're tight end eighty three, good player, Alvin Kamara one
[54:48] Speaker 1: of the better running backs. I mean, I don't know
[54:51] Speaker 1: if he's Saquon Barkley or Derrick Henry, but he's a
[54:53] Speaker 1: really good NFL player. They got good personnel on offense.
[54:57] Speaker 1: They have an offensive head coach. I was impressed with
[54:59] Speaker 1: Ratler in that game. As the game went on, I
[55:01] Speaker 1: was like, this guy's not bad. Like I understand, of course,
[55:05] Speaker 1: Tyler Shuck can't beat this guy up there. There's no
[55:07] Speaker 1: chance on God's Green Earth that Tyler Shuck's as good
[55:10] Speaker 1: as that guy. So my take was like, yeah, the
[55:12] Speaker 1: Saints offense is not terrible. Defensively, they probably suck, but
[55:17] Speaker 1: offensively they definitely have some pieces and they have team speed.
[55:23] Speaker 1: These have some explosive playmakers. I was kind of impressed.
[55:27] Speaker 1: I mean, people probably make fun of the Cardinals and
[55:31] Speaker 1: Niners like, oh, that's not a great win. I don't
[55:34] Speaker 1: think the Saints are just some like watching them, they
[55:37] Speaker 1: feel and I've bet on the Titans two weeks in
[55:39] Speaker 1: a row. The Saints are better. One thing about you know,
[55:43] Speaker 1: hype and how you come in right. Rattler was what
[55:46] Speaker 1: a fifth round pick and Caleb was the greatest thing
[55:49] Speaker 1: since slice spread. Once you start playing, none of that matters, right,
[55:54] Speaker 1: None of it matters, and hype just becomes that white
[55:59] Speaker 1: noise Internet talk. Right, can you make players you can't?
[56:03] Speaker 1: Can you block someone or you can't. What do you
[56:05] Speaker 1: do with the ball in your hands? Can you break
[56:07] Speaker 1: tackles or you can't? Like, no one cares about any
[56:10] Speaker 1: of that once the game starts or during the week
[56:12] Speaker 1: when you're preparing and getting ready for practice. So I'll
[56:17] Speaker 1: be honest, I wrote Spencer Rattler off years ago, and
[56:21] Speaker 1: he went to South Carolina resurrect his career. Clearly the
[56:24] Speaker 1: last couple of years, it feels like the Saints like him.
[56:29] Speaker 1: Hat tip to him because right now I'm with you.
[56:32] Speaker 1: It feels like it's he's just a better player than
[56:35] Speaker 1: Caleb Williams. Happens all the time, right, I mean, it
[56:39] Speaker 1: happens all the time. The guys become better players than
[56:42] Speaker 1: guys that they shouldn't be better players, man, But that's
[56:46] Speaker 1: the way the NFL works. It's like, eventually you just
[56:49] Speaker 1: got to make some place you either can function or
[56:52] Speaker 1: you can't. You either can consistently complete routes against certain
[56:57] Speaker 1: pressures and defenses or you can't. You either can play
[57:00] Speaker 1: from within the pocket or you can't. And it's not
[57:03] Speaker 1: like Rattler or some bad athlete. He was running around
[57:06] Speaker 1: making plays with his legs. With Mac Jones' performance with
[57:10] Speaker 1: Kyle calling plays, is it fair to say that Josh
[57:13] Speaker 1: McDaniels is overrated. He didn't get much out of Mac
[57:17] Speaker 1: and hasn't done much without Brady. I would say Josh
[57:20] Speaker 1: McDaniels stock is definitely has not been a bye over
[57:28] Speaker 1: the last couple of years, and right now, at best
[57:31] Speaker 1: it's like a hold and keep track of now. I listen,
[57:35] Speaker 1: Mac Jones has his limitations and he's playing the Saints,
[57:39] Speaker 1: which isn't great now. Granted he's throwing to you know,
[57:42] Speaker 1: banged up Juwan Jennings, Ricky Piersoll. You know, the Irish
[57:46] Speaker 1: personnel is actually not bad. Ricky Pearsoll is a good player,
[57:49] Speaker 1: and McCaffrey's healthy and is a good player. But a
[57:52] Speaker 1: lot of Kendrick Bourne who just signed. Comparing Kyle to
[57:56] Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels, if you just remove Tom Brady, which I
[58:01] Speaker 1: think Kyle Shanahan, Matt Lafleur, Kevin O'Connell, Sean McVay, Andy Reid,
[58:05] Speaker 1: Sean Payton, every decent coordinator let alone, the good guys
[58:09] Speaker 1: would have dominated with Tom. But can you coach with
[58:12] Speaker 1: Mac Jones. Can you coach with Jimmy Garoppolo? Can you
[58:15] Speaker 1: coach with Alex Smith? Can you coach with all these?
[58:17] Speaker 1: Because it's been proven Josh McDaniels cannot now can he
[58:20] Speaker 1: coach with Drake May? Like I put zero stock into
[58:23] Speaker 1: any performance against the Miami Dolphins. So we will see
[58:26] Speaker 1: as the season goes on. Like Steelers defense isn't great,
[58:30] Speaker 1: how does it look there? So I would say as
[58:33] Speaker 1: someone who supported Josh McDaniels as a great offensive coordinator,
[58:37] Speaker 1: I've definitely pulled back on that. Take a little bit.
[58:39] Speaker 1: Chiefs fan from South Africa, I've always wanted to go there.
[58:44] Speaker 1: What a crazy first two weeks, great shows and I'm
[58:46] Speaker 1: a big fan. Rex Ryan believes the Chief's inability to
[58:48] Speaker 1: commit to the run will remain an Achilles heel on Sunday,
[58:52] Speaker 1: big runs and then when you think it's starting to work,
[58:55] Speaker 1: they throw and it goes off Kelsey's hands. Can the
[58:58] Speaker 1: Chiefs beat the Eagles without being able to read the
[59:01] Speaker 1: temperature in the room and commit to the run when
[59:03] Speaker 1: they have the champs on the ropes? Barkley ended up
[59:07] Speaker 1: with a sneaky eighty eight yards but more effective second
[59:10] Speaker 1: half and a pedestrian first half. Let me just what
[59:15] Speaker 1: were their final rush attempts, because I felt like they
[59:17] Speaker 1: ran the ball a lot. I would say this when
[59:21] Speaker 1: it comes to Kansas City is they have one of
[59:24] Speaker 1: the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Who I understand that
[59:27] Speaker 1: they're missing offensive personnel, but when you look at the
[59:31] Speaker 1: box score against the Eagles, the Chiefs ran the ball
[59:34] Speaker 1: twenty six times, the Eagles thirty four. Now that's really
[59:40] Speaker 1: not that big of a gap, given that Jalen Hurts
[59:43] Speaker 1: threw for I mean a pedestrian hundred yards. It's not
[59:47] Speaker 1: like Mahomes threw it fifty times. He threw it twenty
[59:50] Speaker 1: nine times. He threw it only seven more times than
[59:52] Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts. Now, some of these runs were Mahomes scrambling around,
[59:58] Speaker 1: but I mean it's I just think that's part of Mahomes.
[1:00:01] Speaker 1: The Andy Reid offense, like Andy Reid for twenty five years,
[1:00:05] Speaker 1: is gonna call more passes than runs. He also throws
[1:00:09] Speaker 1: the ball to the running back. Pajaco got to catch,
[1:00:12] Speaker 1: Hunt got a catch. So I don't know, I have
[1:00:18] Speaker 1: seen way worse in that situation of them not running
[1:00:22] Speaker 1: the ball. Rex Ryan's teams led the league in rushing.
[1:00:26] Speaker 1: Like the couple teams that he had that were good
[1:00:28] Speaker 1: with the Jets, they were not passing teams. They led
[1:00:30] Speaker 1: the league in rushing and they played defense. It's not
[1:00:33] Speaker 1: the way Andy Reid has gone to five out of
[1:00:36] Speaker 1: the last six Super Bowls. He honestly runs the ball
[1:00:39] Speaker 1: now than he ever has. And here's the thing. His
[1:00:42] Speaker 1: running backs were Kareem Hunt, who averaged three point nine
[1:00:45] Speaker 1: yards to carry eight carries for thirty one yards, and
[1:00:48] Speaker 1: Pachaco ten rushes for twenty two yards. So it's like,
[1:00:53] Speaker 1: what are you supposed to keep hammering those guys in
[1:00:54] Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage. At the end of the day,
[1:00:57] Speaker 1: they got Saquon Barkley. If Andy had Saquon, I do
[1:00:59] Speaker 1: think he'd give them the ball more often. But his
[1:01:01] Speaker 1: two running backs are one's a seventh rounder who I liked,
[1:01:05] Speaker 1: but Jaco and Kareem Hunt was a guy that didn't
[1:01:08] Speaker 1: have a job. A longtime listener wanted to bring this
[1:01:10] Speaker 1: question back around to be considered for the Hall of Fame.
[1:01:14] Speaker 1: What does John Schneider and the Hawks need to do
[1:01:16] Speaker 1: the rest of his tenure. Also, it's interesting to watch
[1:01:20] Speaker 1: Seattle build a program with a plant. For so long
[1:01:24] Speaker 1: after LB it was relying on rust to save him
[1:01:27] Speaker 1: in the fourth quarter. Cool to see them have a
[1:01:29] Speaker 1: plan like the Lions as a most recent example, create
[1:01:32] Speaker 1: an identity and start and start to stay true to it.
[1:01:37] Speaker 1: You know, I John Snyder has got a contract extension,
[1:01:41] Speaker 1: He's already been to a couple Super Bowls. When's the
[1:01:44] Speaker 1: last time his team lost? Like, if you look since
[1:01:47] Speaker 1: his tenure as a GM, I mean, have they had
[1:01:51] Speaker 1: a losing record. I'm trying to think. I'm not sure
[1:01:56] Speaker 1: they have. They went seven to ten in two thousand
[1:01:59] Speaker 1: and twenty one. But other than that, I mean, they're
[1:02:03] Speaker 1: gonna be nine and eight, ten and seven this year.
[1:02:06] Speaker 1: They were ten and seven last year, nine and eight,
[1:02:07] Speaker 1: nine and eight. I mean, post Rush, they've been pretty good.
[1:02:11] Speaker 1: To me. If he gets consistent playoff team the next
[1:02:13] Speaker 1: couple of years, I mean, he's I don't know, he's
[1:02:16] Speaker 1: pretty freaking good, especially when he was the guy pounding
[1:02:18] Speaker 1: the table for Russell Wilson. Now, I you know, historically
[1:02:24] Speaker 1: it's a little harder for gms to get into the
[1:02:26] Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. I don't know. I don't really think
[1:02:28] Speaker 1: about it like that. I think about Hall of Fame
[1:02:31] Speaker 1: more for coaches than for gms. But you know, Brett
[1:02:35] Speaker 1: Beach has three Super Bowls he has, he not gonna
[1:02:38] Speaker 1: be a Hall of Famer. Howie Roseman has two super
[1:02:40] Speaker 1: Bowls with two different quarterbacks, two different coaches. He's gonna
[1:02:43] Speaker 1: be a Hall of Famer. John Schneider's been to two
[1:02:47] Speaker 1: Super Bowls. He's gonna be in the mix for sure.
[1:02:50] Speaker 1: He's got still I think if he got to one
[1:02:53] Speaker 1: more super Bowl with a different quarterback, it'd be hard
[1:02:55] Speaker 1: to keep him out. I have a question for the mailback.
[1:02:58] Speaker 1: I'm a Chiefs fan, and in a light of the
[1:03:00] Speaker 1: recent Chiefs Eagles game, how can the tush push continue
[1:03:03] Speaker 1: to be run with it being so hard to officiate?
[1:03:07] Speaker 1: It seemed to me that there was two false starts
[1:03:09] Speaker 1: on the Eagles running play. When they showed the replay,
[1:03:12] Speaker 1: I don't think it seemed there definitely was, but because
[1:03:15] Speaker 1: it's such a tight formation, it's almost impossible for the
[1:03:18] Speaker 1: officials to see. Same as the end of the game
[1:03:21] Speaker 1: where the Chiefs say they recovered the ball, I don't
[1:03:24] Speaker 1: believe that they did, but it got me thinking it'd
[1:03:27] Speaker 1: be so hard to see anything live on replay assists
[1:03:31] Speaker 1: because there are so many guys on the pile. I'm
[1:03:35] Speaker 1: telling you, guys this thing. This is last year. They
[1:03:39] Speaker 1: gave Jason Kelce the owners meeting, the impassioned speech, he
[1:03:41] Speaker 1: had Howie Roseman fighting, and they did a good job.
[1:03:45] Speaker 1: They ran a winning campaign. It looked like they were
[1:03:49] Speaker 1: going to lose. They campaigned and they flipped the votes.
[1:03:53] Speaker 1: But that is not going to happen again, especially the
[1:03:56] Speaker 1: negativity around that play. They're kind of a boring team
[1:03:59] Speaker 1: to watch right now as is. I know, I know
[1:04:02] Speaker 1: they're winning, but when that's your most effective offensive play call,
[1:04:06] Speaker 1: I just think people are gonna turn on you. And
[1:04:09] Speaker 1: the other thing is when you win, people get people
[1:04:12] Speaker 1: get bored with you as well. Danny Dives is he
[1:04:29] Speaker 1: making an MVP run? Adam Schefter? How about this? The
[1:04:34] Speaker 1: Colts are the first team in the Super Bowl era
[1:04:37] Speaker 1: not to punt in either one of their first two games.
[1:04:42] Speaker 1: What I said about the Saints where I'm like God,
[1:04:44] Speaker 1: they got a lot of decent, good offensive players, Like
[1:04:48] Speaker 1: a lot of their guys would start on Super Bowl contenders.
[1:04:53] Speaker 1: I'm watching the Colts. I go, well, Pittman's really good,
[1:04:57] Speaker 1: Tyler Warren is everyone was like Loveland his attributes, he's
[1:05:03] Speaker 1: just gonna be Well, I'm watching Tyler Warren, Like, yeah,
[1:05:05] Speaker 1: he might have been a little slower, he might not
[1:05:08] Speaker 1: have been as explosive, but that works. Like he's gonna
[1:05:11] Speaker 1: be playing in the NFL making plays. For a long time,
[1:05:14] Speaker 1: he was the best player and one of the best
[1:05:16] Speaker 1: teams in college football. Now you put him in the
[1:05:19] Speaker 1: NFL and he's immediately running around Denver Broncos on defense.
[1:05:23] Speaker 1: So you got him, you got Pierce Can makes plays. Obviously,
[1:05:28] Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor is one of the best running backs. Like,
[1:05:31] Speaker 1: they got really good offensive personnel. They drafted Mitchell two
[1:05:35] Speaker 1: years ago from Texas, who is just an explosive player.
[1:05:40] Speaker 1: It's hard not to watch Indian go God. If Daniel
[1:05:43] Speaker 1: Jones can just kind of be like an Alex Smith
[1:05:46] Speaker 1: version of which he was always destined to be. If
[1:05:48] Speaker 1: he was going to hit, it could not be bad.
[1:05:51] Speaker 1: Now is it going to continue? Are they just gonna
[1:05:53] Speaker 1: be the best offense in the league. Well, they have
[1:05:55] Speaker 1: an offensive coordinator who's their head coach that a couple
[1:05:58] Speaker 1: of years ago is viewed as a genius, and then
[1:06:00] Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson made him look like an idiot. Sometimes You know,
[1:06:03] Speaker 1: we shit on coaches, and I'm guilty as anybody. I'll
[1:06:06] Speaker 1: be as aggressive on being negative toward coaches as anyone
[1:06:09] Speaker 1: that talks about football. But sometimes we need to shed
[1:06:13] Speaker 1: light on that player is so crappy. He made that
[1:06:18] Speaker 1: coach look bad. And that's what Anthony Richison was doing
[1:06:20] Speaker 1: to Shane ssyching. It made Shane styke and look bad
[1:06:23] Speaker 1: and him kind of like having to do things that
[1:06:26] Speaker 1: he would never do on and off the field, right.
[1:06:29] Speaker 1: It made him look bad on press conferences, It made
[1:06:32] Speaker 1: him look bad at the podium, It made him probably
[1:06:34] Speaker 1: look bad in his locker room. Maybe it's Anthony Richison,
[1:06:37] Speaker 1: because I've seen Shane Siken removing Anthony Richison and it works.
[1:06:42] Speaker 1: I keep hearing that Caleb is playing well in the
[1:06:44] Speaker 1: first quarter while he's running Ben Johnson's scripted plays, but
[1:06:49] Speaker 1: after that everything falls apart. Curious if you could give
[1:06:53] Speaker 1: some insight on why they can't script more plays. I
[1:06:57] Speaker 1: understand as the score changes, so does the flow of
[1:07:00] Speaker 1: the game, but it'd be so much better on script.
[1:07:04] Speaker 1: Why can't he script the first thirty plays instead of
[1:07:06] Speaker 1: the first ten? You know that would be a great
[1:07:10] Speaker 1: question for is an offensive coordinator or a head coach,
[1:07:14] Speaker 1: because I don't know the answer to that. Maybe the
[1:07:17] Speaker 1: timing throughout the week it would be harder. You know,
[1:07:21] Speaker 1: you run a lot of plays, and you game plan
[1:07:24] Speaker 1: a lot of plays that quote unquote are are put
[1:07:29] Speaker 1: into the game plan Wednesday, Thursday, Friday that might not
[1:07:33] Speaker 1: be in your first ten. So you have practiced those
[1:07:37] Speaker 1: plays now. I think what they want is against a
[1:07:40] Speaker 1: specific look. So if you get that look, you have
[1:07:43] Speaker 1: practiced that play throughout the week, potentially multiple times, and
[1:07:48] Speaker 1: it's just about does the defense give you the look
[1:07:51] Speaker 1: you want? And if they don't, then it can look bad.
[1:07:54] Speaker 1: But I think you run a lot of plays during
[1:07:57] Speaker 1: the week that aren't part of your scripted ten or
[1:08:00] Speaker 1: scripted first fifteen plays that then get run in the games.
[1:08:04] Speaker 1: What do you think you're doing in practice? Even red
[1:08:07] Speaker 1: zone period, third down period. You're gonna run a lot
[1:08:09] Speaker 1: of plays against the defense that you think you're gonna
[1:08:12] Speaker 1: see from the team in practice them throughout the week.
[1:08:16] Speaker 1: So a lot of these play calls that they're calling
[1:08:19] Speaker 1: for Caleb in the second half of these games, they
[1:08:22] Speaker 1: may not have scripted in a sequence, because how do
[1:08:26] Speaker 1: I script in a sequence in the third quarter when
[1:08:29] Speaker 1: the game is twenty one to three or vice versa.
[1:08:33] Speaker 1: We're up twenty one to three, right, So I'm not
[1:08:35] Speaker 1: gonna keep calling these pass plays. We're gonna call some runs,
[1:08:39] Speaker 1: but they are run plays that we have run, if
[1:08:41] Speaker 1: not that week, we hammered throughout training camp or earlier
[1:08:45] Speaker 1: in the season. So they're typically not calling plays even
[1:08:50] Speaker 1: past the quote unquote script that he's not run a
[1:08:54] Speaker 1: bunch of times in the offseason in training camp, and
[1:08:57] Speaker 1: obviously the season goes on potentially countless times. I think
[1:09:03] Speaker 1: the hardest part about football, it's what makes Brady Rogers,
[1:09:08] Speaker 1: Peyton Mahomes all these guys, is like as a game
[1:09:12] Speaker 1: goes on, you have to be able to call your plays.
[1:09:17] Speaker 1: Like when Mahomes goes the line against the Eagles, he's
[1:09:19] Speaker 1: gonna call a play that Andy calls in that they've
[1:09:22] Speaker 1: run countless times. They might get the defense they look
[1:09:26] Speaker 1: they're looking for, they might not, and if they're not,
[1:09:28] Speaker 1: he has to change on the fly. And if he
[1:09:31] Speaker 1: changes on the fly, and then he takes the snap
[1:09:33] Speaker 1: and then he realizes I was wrong, can he figure
[1:09:36] Speaker 1: it out from there? So it's like the test is
[1:09:40] Speaker 1: constantly changing. It changes when you get up to the
[1:09:43] Speaker 1: line of scrimmage, you look around, then you make a decision,
[1:09:47] Speaker 1: and then once the ball is snapped, they might change
[1:09:50] Speaker 1: what you think they were doing, so then you have
[1:09:53] Speaker 1: to change your decision based on that, including the wide receivers,
[1:09:56] Speaker 1: the offensive line. Like, there's just a lot of moving parts,
[1:10:01] Speaker 1: and no matter how much you script football, you can
[1:10:05] Speaker 1: never like, this isn't a song, this isn't a movie.
[1:10:09] Speaker 1: I can only control so much as an offensive play caller, Right,
[1:10:14] Speaker 1: what if my guard slips? What happens when my wide
[1:10:16] Speaker 1: receiver runs the wrong route? What happens where we knew
[1:10:21] Speaker 1: the defense they were gonna run, but someone on their
[1:10:24] Speaker 1: defense fucks up. So it's like, yeah, I thought their
[1:10:27] Speaker 1: dB was gonna, you know, run with the tight end
[1:10:29] Speaker 1: down the scene, but he just let the guy go
[1:10:31] Speaker 1: and he just like ran to the flat which we
[1:10:34] Speaker 1: thought was gonna be wide open, but he couldn't throw
[1:10:36] Speaker 1: to the scene because the safety had cheated once he
[1:10:39] Speaker 1: realized the guy had screwed up and he was right there.
[1:10:42] Speaker 1: So it's like there's constantly moving parts. And that's where
[1:10:45] Speaker 1: it feels like Kleb and a lot of young quarterbacks
[1:10:48] Speaker 1: can completely overwhelmed. It's like they don't even know what
[1:10:50] Speaker 1: they're looking at, and then they freak out and they
[1:10:54] Speaker 1: look at the ground and they take a lot of sacks,
[1:10:56] Speaker 1: or run into sacks, or just start running around. That's
[1:10:59] Speaker 1: what it feels like doing. My dad has argued since
[1:11:02] Speaker 1: I was in middle school, I'm about to turn thirty
[1:11:04] Speaker 1: three to eliminate preseason polls in college football. I got
[1:11:08] Speaker 1: on board with him about a decade ago. It influences
[1:11:11] Speaker 1: the perception of teams, especially among members of the committee,
[1:11:15] Speaker 1: which is deciding which teams get to compete for the
[1:11:18] Speaker 1: national championship. I understand why we do preseason polls, but
[1:11:22] Speaker 1: it's time for the committee to come out with a
[1:11:24] Speaker 1: weekly poll after the results of week one. I want
[1:11:27] Speaker 1: to see how well or poorly they do when they
[1:11:30] Speaker 1: don't have an AP or coaches poll to fall back on.
[1:11:33] Speaker 1: Hopefully this gains some traction. I would say this is
[1:11:38] Speaker 1: I don't even think you should have a poll. I
[1:11:40] Speaker 1: know they do it like after week seven. You could
[1:11:43] Speaker 1: do it earlier than that, but I would give it
[1:11:46] Speaker 1: like three weeks. But I'm completely with you. There is
[1:11:49] Speaker 1: a We're human beings, so how could there not be
[1:11:53] Speaker 1: an inherent bias where it's like, hey, this team, you
[1:11:57] Speaker 1: know clearly they're not as good, but you don't tech
[1:12:00] Speaker 1: It's like, well, yeah, because they started number two overall.
[1:12:03] Speaker 1: Have you seen arch Manning play football? He looks atrocious.
[1:12:07] Speaker 1: There is no way they could be a top five
[1:12:09] Speaker 1: team with that at quarterback. We have seen teams win
[1:12:12] Speaker 1: the National Championship with a game manager he is. If
[1:12:17] Speaker 1: his name was John Middlecoff and not arch Manning, he
[1:12:20] Speaker 1: would get benched like it is that atrocious. So I
[1:12:24] Speaker 1: mean Quinn yours in the middle of a game last
[1:12:26] Speaker 1: year got pulled. I'm completely with you. It doesn't feel
[1:12:30] Speaker 1: like we're anywhere near that happening. Though. What happened at
[1:12:34] Speaker 1: the Denver defense. I know we're only two games in,
[1:12:37] Speaker 1: but I feel like we were sold as a top
[1:12:39] Speaker 1: three defense, and if I were a Denver fan, I'm
[1:12:42] Speaker 1: not liking what I'm seeing your thoughts. I felt like
[1:12:46] Speaker 1: they were way too easy to throw on yesterday, like
[1:12:50] Speaker 1: every time that you know, we had several games going
[1:12:53] Speaker 1: on at one time. But I'm pulling up the box score.
[1:12:56] Speaker 1: How many yards did Daniel Jones throw for? Daniel Jones
[1:12:59] Speaker 1: threw for three hundred yards, so you know, Jonathan Taylor
[1:13:04] Speaker 1: ran for a buck sixty, but one of them was
[1:13:06] Speaker 1: the long run at sixty eight yards, So they held
[1:13:09] Speaker 1: new one hundred yards like they were right in the game,
[1:13:11] Speaker 1: corralling them beside the one big run. I got no
[1:13:14] Speaker 1: issue with a great back. Twenty four carries for one
[1:13:18] Speaker 1: hundred yards. It's like, you know, that's that's whatever. I
[1:13:23] Speaker 1: can live with. That. To me, it was they were
[1:13:26] Speaker 1: distributing it to every single guy. Warren four for seventy nine,
[1:13:31] Speaker 1: Pierce four for sixty eight, Down six for fifty, Jonathan
[1:13:35] Speaker 1: Taylor had a couple catches, Pittman four for forty. It's
[1:13:38] Speaker 1: like every dude is eating. And I don't know if
[1:13:41] Speaker 1: it was just that's part of the Colts where it's like, hey,
[1:13:45] Speaker 1: we're not just playing Jamar Chase or Justin Jefferson, where
[1:13:47] Speaker 1: we can focus on the true not like they got
[1:13:49] Speaker 1: three or four guys. So maybe that makes it a
[1:13:52] Speaker 1: little more challenging. But on the road, maybe Indy's just
[1:13:59] Speaker 1: playing really well. I wouldn't write them off just quite
[1:14:02] Speaker 1: yet as being not a good defense. They only had
[1:14:05] Speaker 1: one sack yesterday. I just thought like there were just
[1:14:09] Speaker 1: guys open, guys making plays in the open field. Maybe
[1:14:12] Speaker 1: the Culture is a unique team that they got a
[1:14:14] Speaker 1: lot of bodies, and if their quarterback is gonna play
[1:14:17] Speaker 1: point guard, that even if your defense is really good,
[1:14:20] Speaker 1: it's gonna be hard to cover all these guys because
[1:14:23] Speaker 1: you got six DB's. You know, it's kind of difficult.
[1:14:26] Speaker 1: So I don't have a great answer for you. I'm
[1:14:29] Speaker 1: gonna say that I'm still a believer in Denver. I
[1:14:33] Speaker 1: would guess that they get their shit together. They get
[1:14:36] Speaker 1: the Chargers this week. I'm recording this on Monday, so
[1:14:39] Speaker 1: before the game, so the charge is gonna be coming
[1:14:42] Speaker 1: off a long week. They get the Bengals with the
[1:14:43] Speaker 1: backup quarterback. They got to go to Philly. So if
[1:14:48] Speaker 1: they can handle this little stretch like go to and
[1:14:51] Speaker 1: win two of those three games, then they will be well,
[1:14:57] Speaker 1: they be three and two. Then they get the Jets,
[1:14:59] Speaker 1: the Giants, the cow Boys, the Texans, the Raiders. They
[1:15:03] Speaker 1: got some winnable games that Charger games would be pretty
[1:15:09] Speaker 1: big for them. Okay, a couple more questions question for
[1:15:25] Speaker 1: the Pod Vikings fan, But I have a question about
[1:15:28] Speaker 1: the Falcons after the game, do they sneakily have two
[1:15:31] Speaker 1: guys that could win defensive Rookie of the Year. I
[1:15:34] Speaker 1: know Minnesota had two good starters on the O line out,
[1:15:38] Speaker 1: but looking at the Falcons schedule and the fact that
[1:15:40] Speaker 1: Baker is the only proven quarterback in the division they'll face,
[1:15:43] Speaker 1: I can't help but think that Pierce and Walker will
[1:15:47] Speaker 1: have great seasons. What do you think I loved Walker
[1:15:51] Speaker 1: ever since that. I mean that Georgia game last year whatever,
[1:15:54] Speaker 1: early mid October where he dominated. It was like, this
[1:15:59] Speaker 1: guy's can't miss guy. I would say he was a
[1:16:02] Speaker 1: pretty polarizing player in NFL circles. I had some people
[1:16:06] Speaker 1: that loved him, and I had other people that thought, like,
[1:16:09] Speaker 1: what's his true Like he's not Khalil Mack power, He's
[1:16:13] Speaker 1: not like because I thought he should have been like
[1:16:16] Speaker 1: a top ten pick. He's not like a true bender.
[1:16:19] Speaker 1: I just watch a guy who is, in by all accounts,
[1:16:23] Speaker 1: elite character, and I don't just I mean elite football
[1:16:26] Speaker 1: character as well, like Aaron Donald eats football up. I mean,
[1:16:31] Speaker 1: was the heartbeat of the Georgia team. But I watched
[1:16:35] Speaker 1: a guy that's just kind of just a natural pass rusher.
[1:16:38] Speaker 1: He might not have the ideal skills relative to some
[1:16:42] Speaker 1: of these guys, but look at Crosby. One thing Crosby
[1:16:46] Speaker 1: hangs his hat on is like he is he ben
[1:16:49] Speaker 1: the edge like Von Miller, you know, is he does
[1:16:51] Speaker 1: the strongest guy in the league, but his relentless effort.
[1:16:54] Speaker 1: He's obviously a very technically sound guy, and he just
[1:16:57] Speaker 1: plays so hard. When you play your balls off, you're
[1:17:00] Speaker 1: just gonna be pretty good now, Pierce, pretty big wild card,
[1:17:03] Speaker 1: big time talent, major question mark for a lot of
[1:17:06] Speaker 1: teams on the draft board. Well, those guys I always
[1:17:10] Speaker 1: just you never know. But I'm betting on Javon Walker
[1:17:15] Speaker 1: being a good player. I would be stunned if he
[1:17:19] Speaker 1: doesn't have a really solid season, different player, I would say,
[1:17:24] Speaker 1: But like Jared Verse, just I just think he's just
[1:17:27] Speaker 1: gonna be good now. How good like consistent All pros,
[1:17:30] Speaker 1: Pro Bowls, I don't know. But I just don't bet
[1:17:33] Speaker 1: against guys like that. I just think guys that play
[1:17:36] Speaker 1: that hard, guys that were that good in college, the
[1:17:40] Speaker 1: guys with that character makeup and off the field kind
[1:17:45] Speaker 1: of wiring. It works. So I'm with you, and you
[1:17:49] Speaker 1: bring Leonard Floyd. Their past rush definitely looks a lot
[1:17:52] Speaker 1: better with those three guys. Okay, last questions, about the
[1:17:55] Speaker 1: toushbush again. This is It's just I can't believe we
[1:17:59] Speaker 1: talked this much about a quarterback sneak, but I understand
[1:18:02] Speaker 1: why I wanted to. We'll end on this. I wanted
[1:18:06] Speaker 1: to ask you about the Toush push we heard about
[1:18:08] Speaker 1: all off season, how there were several owners who wanted
[1:18:11] Speaker 1: to play band for various reasons, most of which centered
[1:18:14] Speaker 1: around it being boring and visually unappealing play. I was
[1:18:19] Speaker 1: wondering if a rule change is even necessary. From the
[1:18:22] Speaker 1: overhead shots and even some down the line of scrimmage,
[1:18:25] Speaker 1: it looks as though the center is directly over and
[1:18:28] Speaker 1: sometimes even ahead of the ball. Wouldn't this mean he's
[1:18:31] Speaker 1: lined up in the neutral zone? You'd have to get
[1:18:34] Speaker 1: Blandino or one of those guys, because it definitely feels
[1:18:38] Speaker 1: like they're all leaning over. I wonder if the way
[1:18:41] Speaker 1: to quote unquote ban it during the season is to
[1:18:45] Speaker 1: start throwing flags on it. And if they start calling
[1:18:48] Speaker 1: these guys for neutral zone infractions and jumping off sides early,
[1:18:53] Speaker 1: then it'll negate it. Because if it's fourth and one
[1:18:56] Speaker 1: and I throw the flag and you go back five yards,
[1:18:59] Speaker 1: you're not running that on fourth and five. So, and
[1:19:02] Speaker 1: I know Siriani and the team's aggressive, but are they
[1:19:05] Speaker 1: gonna Are they gonna go for it at midfield on
[1:19:07] Speaker 1: fourth and five, especially if Jalen has one of his
[1:19:10] Speaker 1: classic like one hundred yards through three quarters passing the ball. Now,
[1:19:13] Speaker 1: they got two guys that can run it in Jalen
[1:19:16] Speaker 1: and Saquon, I mean shit, if they wanted to institute
[1:19:20] Speaker 1: like the option with their offensive line and how good
[1:19:24] Speaker 1: of a runner Jalen is and Saquon they could be.
[1:19:29] Speaker 1: For those of you that are my age or older,
[1:19:31] Speaker 1: like the Nebraska Tommy Fraser Lawrence Phillip days of the
[1:19:34] Speaker 1: late nineties, it would be an unstoppable play. You could
[1:19:38] Speaker 1: argue if they wanted to go old school because the
[1:19:41] Speaker 1: touch push is I mean somewhat of an old school
[1:19:43] Speaker 1: play like run the option, it would dominate. I'd be
[1:19:48] Speaker 1: stunned with everyone talking about them jumping off sides, with
[1:19:52] Speaker 1: them doing it to the Chiefs that they get flagged
[1:19:56] Speaker 1: here in the next couple weeks trying to run that play.
[1:19:58] Speaker 1: Their guys are gonna jump like that. Appreciate the questions.
[1:20:02] Speaker 1: I'll answer questions all week. Keep them coming at John Middlecoff.
[1:20:06] Speaker 1: Talk to you soon. Say you the volume m
