[0:01] Speaker 1: The volume at the end of the season. There's only
[0:04] Speaker 1: one team that can call themselves NBA champs, only one
[0:07] Speaker 1: player that can call themselves the number one pick in
[0:09] Speaker 1: the NFL draft. Well, there's only one electric suv worthy
[0:12] Speaker 1: of the title, The Ultimate, the all Electric BMWIX. What
[0:17] Speaker 1: I love about the IX is that it delivers legendary
[0:19] Speaker 1: BMW performance. I've had several while its sleek design exudes
[0:24] Speaker 1: innovative style from the inside out, not to mention how
[0:27] Speaker 1: much space and utility it provides over seventy five cubic
[0:31] Speaker 1: feet of cargo space. The IX is completely changing the
[0:34] Speaker 1: game with an all electric suv. The greatest legends of
[0:37] Speaker 1: sports never compromise any part of the game, So why
[0:40] Speaker 1: would you settle for anything less from your suv? After all,
[0:43] Speaker 1: there's only one ultimate, the BMWIX. Everything you love about
[0:48] Speaker 1: the ultimate driving machine Electrified BMW Aaron Rodgers got married.
[0:58] Speaker 1: I saw he had a wedding ring on and I
[1:01] Speaker 1: was talking about this on FS one today. In the
[1:04] Speaker 1: last year, I've had a couple of buddies who are
[1:06] Speaker 1: gms in the league, and one of the lines I've
[1:12] Speaker 1: used in my business for a long time is weird
[1:16] Speaker 1: doesn't work. You can have an ego, you can even
[1:21] Speaker 1: be a little temperamental. You can make mistakes, but if
[1:26] Speaker 1: you're weird, eventually companies will move on from you. And
[1:30] Speaker 1: I had a general manager tell me I was out
[1:33] Speaker 1: with him about six months ago, and he said, Aaron
[1:35] Speaker 1: just got weird. And he said, and there's a story
[1:38] Speaker 1: that McVeigh passed on him, Kevin O'Connell passed on him.
[1:41] Speaker 1: He was the Steeters third choice. And it's I was
[1:44] Speaker 1: writing down a list today of the quarterbacks I would
[1:46] Speaker 1: take over Aaron in the league, and there were sixteen
[1:48] Speaker 1: of them, including like bo Nicks. I'm not paying Bonnicks anything.
[1:52] Speaker 1: He's more coachable, he's more athletic, he throws a fine ball.
[1:55] Speaker 1: I think Aaron's just gotten to a point where I
[1:58] Speaker 1: think Pittsburgh's about the only offer he had, and reportedly,
[2:01] Speaker 1: according to Chefter, he was their third choice.
[2:05] Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I do think it's pretty bizarre that
[2:08] Speaker 2: he signs this contract and he's supported in the wedding ring.
[2:11] Speaker 2: I mean, this is these quarterbacks. You know who they're
[2:15] Speaker 2: married to is kind. I mean, they're pretty big stars, right,
[2:18] Speaker 2: They're like actors, NBA stars. Josh Allen gets married. We
[2:21] Speaker 2: all know it. Not all these guys even married famous
[2:23] Speaker 2: people like Josh Allen or Tom Brady. They're married to
[2:26] Speaker 2: other famous people. Patrick Mahomes married to his high school sweetheart.
[2:30] Speaker 2: Peyton Manning's married to a girl I think he dated
[2:31] Speaker 2: in college. Who cares this whole thing of like, I
[2:34] Speaker 2: got things going on in my personal life, which I
[2:36] Speaker 2: assumed it was negative stuff. Turns out maybe he was
[2:38] Speaker 2: just getting married and wanted to push this off. It's
[2:41] Speaker 2: just kind of the I've always been pro Aaron Rodgers
[2:45] Speaker 2: as a player because I thought he was incredible, you know,
[2:48] Speaker 2: I thought, in the peak of his powers, he's one
[2:50] Speaker 2: of the best athletes in terms of their sport I've
[2:52] Speaker 2: ever seen in my entire life, which is weird because
[2:54] Speaker 2: when you look at the totality of his career, it
[2:56] Speaker 2: almost feels underwhelming for how good he was. You know,
[3:00] Speaker 2: I think he let down in the playoffs. I mean
[3:01] Speaker 2: they lost a couple of years ago at home to
[3:04] Speaker 2: Jimmy Garoppolo in the forty nine ers offense. I think
[3:06] Speaker 2: they scored thirteen points. That can't happen. But I think
[3:10] Speaker 2: this whole because we knew he was going to go
[3:11] Speaker 2: to Pittsburgh. It was just when he was going to sign.
[3:14] Speaker 2: But that picture of him with the wedding ring is
[3:16] Speaker 2: just a little bizarre. I mean, there's really no way around. Yeah, right,
[3:20] Speaker 2: And you've been on this forever. Listen as someone that
[3:23] Speaker 2: got I got married for the first time at forty
[3:25] Speaker 2: years old. Now there is a and a lot of
[3:28] Speaker 2: my friends and my brother got married in their late twenties,
[3:30] Speaker 2: early thirties. Your life is dramatically different, you know. I mean,
[3:35] Speaker 2: obviously then you have kids. It is a completely different lifestyle.
[3:39] Speaker 2: And he's just kind of been in this weird spot. Obviously.
[3:43] Speaker 2: Also as a player, he's no longer the same. His
[3:46] Speaker 2: mobility's gone. Yes, he's just not a dominant player anymore.
[3:50] Speaker 1: You can argue Tom Brady had a twenty year prime,
[3:55] Speaker 1: a twenty year prime now even though he was really
[3:58] Speaker 1: good past forty, really considerate maybe forty one and then
[4:02] Speaker 1: the prime ended, but he was still threw a great
[4:04] Speaker 1: ball at forty.
[4:05] Speaker 2: I'd get I'd give him for that first that first
[4:07] Speaker 2: year and a half, his hamp I think he was
[4:08] Speaker 2: pretty damn good.
[4:09] Speaker 1: Ye, People forget this. Aaron's last year in Green Bay
[4:14] Speaker 1: they played in they played an average Lions team at
[4:17] Speaker 1: home and lost, and it was Aaron. I think it
[4:19] Speaker 1: was Aaron's last was his last game as a Packer.
[4:23] Speaker 2: And he got outplayed by Golf in that game, but
[4:25] Speaker 2: Early outplayed Aaron.
[4:28] Speaker 1: So that year, if you go back statistically, Aaron was
[4:31] Speaker 1: a B plus quarterback. He didn't play his first three
[4:34] Speaker 1: years in the league, right he sat in the bench.
[4:37] Speaker 1: His fourth theory started, he went six and ten. I
[4:40] Speaker 1: can argue Aaron had less than a ten year prime.
[4:45] Speaker 1: I mean, because he hasn't done anything in four years.
[4:47] Speaker 1: He didn't do anything the first four years. So I
[4:50] Speaker 1: mean Aaron's prime was about half of Brady's.
[4:53] Speaker 2: I'd give I'd give him two thousand and nine to
[4:56] Speaker 2: about twenty one twenty two. I mean he won the
[4:58] Speaker 2: MVP in twenty one twenty one. Yeah, about about ten
[5:02] Speaker 2: eleven years max.
[5:04] Speaker 1: Think about that. Brady's at twenty and I so if
[5:07] Speaker 1: you really look at Peyton Manning's probably about fourteen usually,
[5:11] Speaker 1: you know, I mean Mahomes maybe one of those seventeen
[5:14] Speaker 1: to eighteen years Aaron just and I think a lot
[5:19] Speaker 1: of it was just Aaron. I don't think he was
[5:20] Speaker 1: as committed in the off season. I think he wasn't.
[5:26] Speaker 1: You know, I thought he was really good the year
[5:27] Speaker 1: he went six and ten, But I didn't think he
[5:30] Speaker 1: was I just thought he was talented. He wasn't a
[5:32] Speaker 1: winning quarterback. But I think a lot of that is
[5:34] Speaker 1: just I've always been one of these people. I'm not
[5:37] Speaker 1: impressed by people that get jobs. I'm impressed by people
[5:40] Speaker 1: that keep them. Like I think there is there is
[5:42] Speaker 1: a real skill to being Lebron James or Tom Brady
[5:45] Speaker 1: or Derek Jeter, and it's a commitment on nutrition, what
[5:49] Speaker 1: you eat, sleep, And I think that's a skill. I
[5:52] Speaker 1: think discipline's a skill. Maybe people don't. Maybe I'm wrong.
[5:55] Speaker 1: Maybe mental health professionals would argue that disciplines is you know,
[6:00] Speaker 1: it's it's.
[6:00] Speaker 2: Not a skill. Anyone who says that not is a moron.
[6:03] Speaker 2: From the Navy seals to our athletes, to our CEOs,
[6:06] Speaker 2: what are they?
[6:08] Speaker 1: And I just look at Aaron's prime. It's half of Brady.
[6:14] Speaker 1: And you can say what you want, but that last
[6:16] Speaker 1: year in Green Bay, he was a B quarterback and
[6:18] Speaker 1: he's gone downhill since. I mean, he's just a pocket
[6:21] Speaker 1: guy now. And he's not even like an elite pocket guy.
[6:24] Speaker 1: He's just a pocket guy.
[6:27] Speaker 2: Well, I think when you look at his contemporaries or
[6:29] Speaker 2: definitely his peers over his career, because he came in
[6:33] Speaker 2: a lot later than Peyton and definitely, you know, definitely
[6:36] Speaker 2: Peyton and Tom, he was way more physically gifted than
[6:39] Speaker 2: those guys. Those guys couldn't run, Tom and Peyton couldn't
[6:41] Speaker 2: run at all. I would say Drew Brees definitely wasn't
[6:44] Speaker 2: a mobile quarterback, and he just had more skills. I mean,
[6:49] Speaker 2: I would say Peyton and Drew Brees are known at
[6:51] Speaker 2: best average arms, right, they hung their hat on accuracy.
[6:55] Speaker 2: Tom had the best arm of that trio. But those
[6:57] Speaker 2: guys worked like they could get cut next year. I mean,
[7:00] Speaker 2: everyone you ever talked to that were around those guys,
[7:03] Speaker 2: they were discussed like they were Michael Jordan or Kobe
[7:06] Speaker 2: Bryan or Tiger Woods. Their addiction to their craft and
[7:08] Speaker 2: how much it meant to them. I do think Aaron
[7:11] Speaker 2: really benefited a lot. I mean, Tom Brady goes to
[7:14] Speaker 2: the Patriots who sucked right him, and Bill turned that
[7:18] Speaker 2: thing around. Peyton went to the Colts who had the
[7:20] Speaker 2: number one overall pick, and Drew Brees and Sean Payton
[7:22] Speaker 2: showed up to the Saints that were known as the Aince.
[7:25] Speaker 2: This guy went to the Green Bay Packers, who were
[7:28] Speaker 2: a model franchise for fifteen plus years before he got there.
[7:32] Speaker 2: And I always think that, like listen him and Davante. Sometimes,
[7:37] Speaker 2: you know, you kind of make up your own problems
[7:39] Speaker 2: in your head when life's going a little too good.
[7:41] Speaker 2: And it felt like those two guys, I mean, they
[7:43] Speaker 2: have to look back after the couple bumpy years of going,
[7:46] Speaker 2: we actually had it pretty good. You know, it can
[7:48] Speaker 2: be a little boring in this town, but we had
[7:50] Speaker 2: a lot of success here For a reason.
[7:52] Speaker 1: I'm looking up Aaron Drew Brees's career from the first
[7:56] Speaker 1: five years with the Chargers and then you know that
[7:58] Speaker 1: fifteen year run or whatever it was with the Saints.
[8:01] Speaker 1: If I go back to Drew Brees, a smaller athlete,
[8:04] Speaker 1: you can say his first great year was two thousand
[8:07] Speaker 1: and four with the Chargers. So let me count these
[8:10] Speaker 1: years one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen,
[8:16] Speaker 1: fifty sixteen. I would say Breeze had either sixteen or
[8:21] Speaker 1: seventeen elite years, I mean, and I think Brady's twenty plus.
[8:28] Speaker 1: So and again this isn't bash Aaron. It's just when
[8:30] Speaker 1: you go and I've said this, I said this before
[8:32] Speaker 1: to you. If Stafford won another super Bowl, Stafford was
[8:36] Speaker 1: better in college, he was better early, he was much
[8:39] Speaker 1: better later. If Stafford plays three more years, and I
[8:43] Speaker 1: endor McVeigh, they would be good. They have I mean
[8:45] Speaker 1: it's they've they've got their ship rolling. If he gets
[8:48] Speaker 1: one more super Bowl, you're gonna look at Matt Stafford,
[8:52] Speaker 1: and you're gonna look at Aaron Rodgers, and you're gonna
[8:54] Speaker 1: have to have a real hard conversation because that means
[8:58] Speaker 1: Stafford's playoff wreck is gonna be significantly better than Aaron Rodgers,
[9:04] Speaker 1: which is basically five hundred people think I'm crazy when
[9:07] Speaker 1: I say this. Stafford has more a game legacy than
[9:12] Speaker 1: any player in the league over the next three years.
[9:15] Speaker 2: I will say this about Rogers when it came to Stafford,
[9:18] Speaker 2: he was one of his biggest proponents over the years.
[9:20] Speaker 2: You know, when he was middling away in Detroit, He's like,
[9:23] Speaker 2: you guys don't realize and obviously the football people held
[9:26] Speaker 2: him in high regard. Kind of got screwed that he
[9:29] Speaker 2: got drafted to this franchise. That I mean They're gonna
[9:32] Speaker 2: be kids right now in Detroit that have no clue
[9:34] Speaker 2: how big of a joke that franchise used to be.
[9:38] Speaker 2: I will say, I think Rogers kind of morphed a
[9:40] Speaker 2: little more into like an NBA player, right, or like
[9:44] Speaker 2: receivers off then act than these quarterbacks. I mean even
[9:47] Speaker 2: Tom for a long period of time just kind of
[9:48] Speaker 2: shut his mouth, kept his head down dealing with Bill.
[9:51] Speaker 2: I mean, Peyton, would he have ever gone to Denver
[9:53] Speaker 2: if they hadn't cut him in India and he had
[9:55] Speaker 2: no other neck injury, he just would have played it
[9:56] Speaker 2: out forever in Indianapolis. So yeah, I just think Aaron,
[10:01] Speaker 2: and part of it might be the nature of that franchise.
[10:05] Speaker 2: You know, you've talked about this a lot of people
[10:07] Speaker 2: have over the years. There's no owner to really get
[10:09] Speaker 2: involved and kind of calm everyone down. Yes, even just
[10:12] Speaker 2: the basic of like hey, you want to take my
[10:14] Speaker 2: jet with your new wife or your buddies to wherever
[10:17] Speaker 2: you want, just the you know, the Eddie de Barbelow,
[10:20] Speaker 2: Jerry Jones, the robber craft like kind of taking care
[10:23] Speaker 2: of you. That there's no that guy doesn't really exist.
[10:26] Speaker 2: So I honestly think that those guys and if I
[10:29] Speaker 2: was a Packer fan, We'll see how the Jordan Love
[10:32] Speaker 2: stuff plays out. But it's like, God, why did these
[10:35] Speaker 2: guys make such a big stink? We could have kept
[10:37] Speaker 2: it rolling for a couple of years. We have a
[10:38] Speaker 2: really good coach. It's like, remember when he was having
[10:41] Speaker 2: at odds with Gudikins. It's like, what are you actually
[10:43] Speaker 2: mad about with him? Like what what did he do?
[10:46] Speaker 2: You know, what are we talking about? And let's face it,
[10:49] Speaker 2: his ego was really really hurt with the Jordan Love
[10:52] Speaker 2: draft pick well, looking back, and there have been a
[10:54] Speaker 2: lot of articles, so was Tom and what did Tom do?
[10:56] Speaker 2: Went out and said I'm going to dominate and win
[10:58] Speaker 2: Super Bowls and you're gonna have to get rid of
[11:00] Speaker 2: that guy, not me. Aaron kind of took the different
[11:02] Speaker 2: tactic like screw you guys, get rid of me, and
[11:05] Speaker 2: obviously age. Let's face it, in the history of sports,
[11:08] Speaker 2: isn't Aaron's career parallel the most guys we've ever watched.
[11:12] Speaker 2: Once you get to your late thirties, you had an injury,
[11:14] Speaker 2: popped achilles, and you're just never quite the same. And
[11:17] Speaker 2: then usually you go to these weird franchises or in
[11:20] Speaker 2: his You know, this scenario kind of a desperate one.
[11:24] Speaker 2: I think they have a lot of guys, from Cam
[11:27] Speaker 2: Hayward to TJ. Tamika that are like serious cats. This
[11:30] Speaker 2: has got to be like, wait, we had to wait
[11:32] Speaker 2: for you. It's not like you're the greatest thing since
[11:34] Speaker 2: sliced bread.
[11:35] Speaker 1: Here, Bud, Yeah, yeah, I mean, listen, I'm not this.
[11:38] Speaker 1: I think this year he'll win. He in a nine games,
[11:40] Speaker 1: he'll have twenty three touchdowns, ten picks. He'll be fine.
[11:43] Speaker 1: I'll miss a game or two. It'll but it is
[11:45] Speaker 1: interesting when you look back, I think Aaron views himself
[11:48] Speaker 1: is picked on or marginalized by the media. And when
[11:51] Speaker 1: you just start looking at Peyton's career and Ben's career,
[11:54] Speaker 1: and Breeze's career, and Brady's career and Elway and Marino,
[11:59] Speaker 1: you just start looking at some of these careers, Aaron's
[12:01] Speaker 1: prime was just not as long, and some of that
[12:05] Speaker 1: he sat behind far. But I thought he aged really
[12:08] Speaker 1: quickly and you can speculate why he did, but he did. Okay,
[12:14] Speaker 1: So I want to throw this out. The JJ McCarthy
[12:17] Speaker 1: stuff's kind of fascinating to me because he was the
[12:19] Speaker 1: one guy in this quarterback class two years ago. I
[12:22] Speaker 1: didn't like. I just didn't see it. I thought he
[12:24] Speaker 1: was a bit small. I thought he was athletic enough.
[12:27] Speaker 1: I'm always very very cautious when people say he's a winner.
[12:31] Speaker 1: What the f does that mean? Doesn't mean anything. Danny
[12:34] Speaker 1: Werfel was a winner. Every Florida coach, every Florida quarterback
[12:37] Speaker 1: he bo. Yeah, under Spurrier was a winner. Johnny Manziel
[12:40] Speaker 1: was a winner. It doesn't mean anything. I always believe
[12:43] Speaker 1: that if you look at most NFL quarterbacks, they had,
[12:46] Speaker 1: even Brock Purdy, who I don't love, they had to
[12:48] Speaker 1: carry their college offense, Big Ben, Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers,
[12:53] Speaker 1: Eli Manning. You know they're not playing with five star guys.
[12:56] Speaker 1: That's why Ohio State, you think, would have ten great
[12:59] Speaker 1: NFL quarters. C J. Strouds their first really good one.
[13:02] Speaker 1: USC's had very few great NFL quarterbacks, and Alabama hasn't,
[13:08] Speaker 1: LSU hasn't. Burrow obviously is but he was a transfer.
[13:11] Speaker 1: But JJ McCarthy his last two years, he threw the
[13:15] Speaker 1: ball over thirty times one time, he never trailed. He
[13:18] Speaker 1: had a great run game, And so I look at
[13:20] Speaker 1: him and Ross Tucker came out with a story, and
[13:23] Speaker 1: I think Ross is a very credible guy. I don't
[13:25] Speaker 1: know him, but very credible guy. He said, listen, there's
[13:28] Speaker 1: concerns they wanted to resign Donald. And I heard the
[13:31] Speaker 1: same thing. But because of my relationship with Darnald, I
[13:35] Speaker 1: wondered if people were telling me that. My source was
[13:37] Speaker 1: telling me that because they knew I loved Donald, but
[13:39] Speaker 1: they had said they actually they actually want Sam and
[13:42] Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it. I'm like, no, you got you
[13:44] Speaker 1: drafted JJ McCarthy. He has to play. If Ross Tucker
[13:48] Speaker 1: says there's concerns, I believe that, do you.
[13:55] Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean I think that going back to that
[13:58] Speaker 2: Detroit game when he was really skinny on the sideline,
[14:00] Speaker 2: you know, at the end of the season, after meeting
[14:03] Speaker 2: multiple injuries. And I also think it gets back to
[14:05] Speaker 2: the way in which he played. Was not a guy
[14:08] Speaker 2: that had to carry his offense in college. He handed
[14:11] Speaker 2: the ball off and they played defense. And they had
[14:12] Speaker 2: thirty NFL guys over a two year span, right, I mean,
[14:15] Speaker 2: look at Stetson. Bennett was on a team that you know,
[14:18] Speaker 2: any decent quarterback could have navigated. And I think the
[14:22] Speaker 2: concerning part is you have to massage this if you're
[14:24] Speaker 2: the team. So it's like, okay, Darnold gets fifty five
[14:28] Speaker 2: plus million guaranteed from Seattle, It's like, you can't. They
[14:31] Speaker 2: were like, we're not going to give him that. I
[14:33] Speaker 2: think they wanted to keep Daniel Jones. Remember they made
[14:36] Speaker 2: a big deal to bring him in on the practice
[14:37] Speaker 2: squad last year. But then Chris Ballard starts sniffing around, Hey,
[14:41] Speaker 2: we'll give you fourteen fifteen million dollars. So then they're thinking, well,
[14:45] Speaker 2: how would this look if we match that or even
[14:47] Speaker 2: give him a little bit more shows It tells everyone
[14:50] Speaker 2: we don't believe. So they were kind of in a
[14:52] Speaker 2: weird spot. I think they would have loved, you know,
[14:54] Speaker 2: Daniel Jones. Market's only eight to ten easier to justify.
[14:58] Speaker 2: What did you start getting once they gave Daniel Jones
[15:00] Speaker 2: that money, Like, I don't know, like where you stand
[15:04] Speaker 2: on this. I think Daniel Jones gonna be the starter
[15:05] Speaker 2: of a week one.
[15:06] Speaker 1: And that was.
[15:06] Speaker 2: Before the kid heard his hit his shoulder.
[15:09] Speaker 1: He was going to beat out Anthony Richardson.
[15:12] Speaker 2: He's going to be the starter.
[15:14] Speaker 1: I had an NFL GM told me he had never
[15:17] Speaker 1: last year. I texted him about Anthony Richardson. He goes,
[15:21] Speaker 1: I've never seen an NFL quarterback that bad on accuracy,
[15:26] Speaker 1: on shit out in the flat. I those were the
[15:28] Speaker 1: exact words. He goes. The layup stuff is brutal. He
[15:32] Speaker 1: is badly missing layups and so I thought Daniel Jones
[15:36] Speaker 1: would beat him out in camp.
[15:39] Speaker 2: Well, to me, what it is is a couple of
[15:41] Speaker 2: years ago, Trey Lance. It was over the moment they
[15:44] Speaker 2: signed Sam Darnold as the two, and then Trey Lance
[15:47] Speaker 2: wasn't even on the team. Might be harder to trade
[15:49] Speaker 2: Anthony Richardson because of the injury. But I think this
[15:51] Speaker 2: team's in a weird spot. They're all in on this roster.
[15:54] Speaker 2: It's excellent, and they loaded up because they had JJ
[15:56] Speaker 2: McCarthy's rookie contract. They bought a bunch of guys in
[15:59] Speaker 2: free agency their team. If you told me they just
[16:02] Speaker 2: had Dak Prescott was their quarterback, I'd be like, well,
[16:05] Speaker 2: if he just doesn't turn it over in the postseason,
[16:07] Speaker 2: this team's gonna be tough. You know, you put Brock
[16:10] Speaker 2: Berdy on their Super Bowl favorites, right, but this guy's
[16:13] Speaker 2: never started an NFL game, And even the going back
[16:16] Speaker 2: to remember Harbaugh was suspended and the and Sharon Moore.
[16:20] Speaker 2: It didn't even passed the ball in the second half
[16:22] Speaker 2: against Penn State. It was a special team that he
[16:26] Speaker 2: got to, you know, orchestrate and run as a quarterback.
[16:29] Speaker 2: He was not asked like most of these quarterbacks in
[16:30] Speaker 2: twenty twenty five. So I'm very concerned because a lot
[16:34] Speaker 2: of times also young quarterback, but Caleb got drafted number
[16:37] Speaker 2: one overall. It went shitty, but ultimately it's like, Okay,
[16:40] Speaker 2: you know, the Bears hadn't made the playoffs. The expectations
[16:43] Speaker 2: for this team. They just won fourteen games. If they
[16:46] Speaker 2: won like nine games and missed the playoffs, it would
[16:49] Speaker 2: be catastrophic. It'd be a there's a lot of pressure
[16:54] Speaker 2: on a guy. I don't remember the last time a
[16:57] Speaker 2: guy that was drafted this high was like a expected
[17:00] Speaker 2: anything less than the NFC Championship game. It gets to
[17:02] Speaker 2: the Trey Lance and Anthony Richardson. Obviously, Trey was on
[17:05] Speaker 2: a team that was expected to compete for the Super Bowl.
[17:07] Speaker 2: So it's different than just going to a team typically
[17:09] Speaker 2: drafting in the top five. The cult same thing, like
[17:12] Speaker 2: you draft this guy in the top five, he's expected
[17:14] Speaker 2: to be a playoff level quarterback. That's different than just
[17:17] Speaker 2: going to some crappy team like ultimately Jayden Daniels, who
[17:20] Speaker 2: was incredible. The pressure on them to start the year
[17:23] Speaker 2: wasn't that high, right if they would have won six
[17:25] Speaker 2: to seven games, he exceeded everything. Same thing with CJ.
[17:29] Speaker 2: Stroud a couple years ago, but they got to kind
[17:31] Speaker 2: of sneak up on everyone. There's those sneaking up. Minnesota's,
[17:34] Speaker 2: I would say, one of the marquee teams in the
[17:36] Speaker 2: league coming into the year. It's a tough spot for
[17:39] Speaker 2: a young player. That's like, what if Week two were
[17:42] Speaker 2: down ten and we're gonna need you to throw it
[17:43] Speaker 2: forty five times and then all of a sudden, justin
[17:46] Speaker 2: Jefferson's I getting the ball. We know how those wide
[17:48] Speaker 2: receivers are. I wouldn't blame him.
[17:50] Speaker 1: The two stories in the NFL at quarterback that are
[17:53] Speaker 1: fascinating are what is JJ McCarthy and who will win
[17:59] Speaker 1: the own starting job? Because so tomorrow or the time
[18:04] Speaker 1: this airs, it's mandatory mini camp. This is not voluntary OTA,
[18:09] Speaker 1: so veterans can show up. And my argument is this
[18:13] Speaker 1: owner Jimmy Haslam signed Johnny, drafted Johnny Manzellen Baker Mayfield
[18:18] Speaker 1: and signed to Sean Watson to an egregiously bad contract.
[18:21] Speaker 1: He's desperate for a star at quarterback. He wants a
[18:23] Speaker 1: star at quarterback. Well, Kenny Pickett's got no juice dyll
[18:27] Speaker 1: In Gabriel's five to eight, Joe Flacco's old shador is
[18:32] Speaker 1: the only potential star. And if you look at the
[18:34] Speaker 1: first five weeks, it's five top ten offenses. Then Aaron
[18:38] Speaker 1: Rodgers in Pittsburgh, and it's a lot of dynamic offenses
[18:41] Speaker 1: and dynamic quarterbacks Joe Burrell and Lamar Jackson and again
[18:46] Speaker 1: two and Mike McDaniel. There's a lot of powerful offenses.
[18:49] Speaker 1: If they're dull in the first six weeks because they
[18:52] Speaker 1: don't have a very good roster, they're probably a four
[18:54] Speaker 1: to six win team. My take is Jimmy Haslam is
[18:57] Speaker 1: going to make a call and say I want you
[18:59] Speaker 1: to standers. History tells me this, owner. We we've seen this.
[19:05] Speaker 1: We saw Jim the late Great Jim Mersey get pissed
[19:08] Speaker 1: off because Carson Wentz had a bad game in Jacksonville
[19:10] Speaker 1: and they shipped him out of town. After a twenty
[19:12] Speaker 1: seven and seven season, a twenty seven touchdown seven pick season.
[19:15] Speaker 1: Carson Wentz. That was his last good year. I think
[19:18] Speaker 1: Shadeure the star power will matter in ninety percent of markets.
[19:22] Speaker 1: It doesn't Cleveland at quarterback it does. So my guess
[19:27] Speaker 1: is there's a lot of dull, small old Shadoor by
[19:32] Speaker 1: week eight is starting. Do you think I'm out of
[19:34] Speaker 1: my mind?
[19:36] Speaker 2: Uh? Well, you're on board, flat, I know you've been
[19:38] Speaker 2: making you know, tongue in cheek. Flacco is going to
[19:40] Speaker 2: start week one right are you? You were there? Okay,
[19:44] Speaker 2: if it gets to a point, the team's not going
[19:46] Speaker 2: to be very good.
[19:47] Speaker 1: Uh.
[19:48] Speaker 2: You know, the defense can only carry us so long.
[19:50] Speaker 2: In the NFL, it's an offensive league now with the rules.
[19:53] Speaker 2: If they force him to start Shadoor Sanders and the
[19:56] Speaker 2: coach doesn't want to play him, I do think Kevin
[19:58] Speaker 2: Stefanski by the end of the year, we'll just quit.
[20:01] Speaker 2: It'll be one of those situations where Stefanski and Barry,
[20:05] Speaker 2: who are very highly thought of. And I was actually
[20:08] Speaker 2: in the car today, I was listening to show when
[20:10] Speaker 2: you gave me a little shoutout talking about how it
[20:13] Speaker 2: was clear during the draft right they draft, they overdrafted
[20:16] Speaker 2: Gabriel to keep the owner off their back and then
[20:19] Speaker 2: the kid kept falling and raft that.
[20:22] Speaker 1: I think it's true because I asked GMS about Dylan
[20:24] Speaker 1: Gabriel and they're like, he's not a third round draft pick.
[20:28] Speaker 2: I thought I knew people that thought the guy was
[20:30] Speaker 2: undrafted because of this time, not not that he's not.
[20:33] Speaker 2: I mean he's an excellent college player and I mean
[20:35] Speaker 2: very productive. But going in the third round I think
[20:39] Speaker 2: was a jarring move for a lot of teams. Wow,
[20:42] Speaker 2: and I truly believe they did it. And if it's
[20:44] Speaker 2: the visuals of the of the owner hovering over them,
[20:47] Speaker 2: but he was there in the fifth round. I do
[20:50] Speaker 2: think it's you have to make plays in practice. I
[20:53] Speaker 2: mean they do have some start, you know, the Miles
[20:55] Speaker 2: Garretts and these guys that are playing every week in
[20:57] Speaker 2: the NFL. It's not like some of these other sports
[20:59] Speaker 2: and baseball or basketball where you kind of go through
[21:02] Speaker 2: the motions even if your team is out of it.
[21:04] Speaker 2: You still like practice is hard, the games are hard.
[21:07] Speaker 2: So if you make a guy the starter, he'd better
[21:09] Speaker 2: be showing something, especially if he's running the scout team.
[21:11] Speaker 2: I remember when perty became the starter, when Jimmy Garoppolo
[21:15] Speaker 2: and Trey Lance went down. It was easy to justify
[21:17] Speaker 2: to the team because the Fred Warners and the boss
[21:19] Speaker 2: were like, we love this guy in practice, We've been
[21:21] Speaker 2: seeing him goes back to the Rogers and some of
[21:23] Speaker 2: these guys that run the scout team, they earn street
[21:26] Speaker 2: cred with the team. And I do think you throw
[21:29] Speaker 2: a guy like that in the coach and the GM
[21:31] Speaker 2: wouldn't just be behind the scenes like what are we doing?
[21:34] Speaker 2: The team could quit on you, but the owner has
[21:37] Speaker 2: proven that he doesn't really care. I get asked a
[21:40] Speaker 2: lot like how can these owners be so successful in
[21:43] Speaker 2: whatever line of work they do and then such bad owners?
[21:47] Speaker 2: And I do you know the thing with football that's
[21:50] Speaker 2: different than just running a trucking company or tepper and
[21:53] Speaker 2: an investing firm. You can just buy your way out
[21:56] Speaker 2: of stuff once you get so much capital and resources.
[21:59] Speaker 2: In football, everyone the salary cap. Salary cap, you only
[22:02] Speaker 2: have a limited amount of draft picks. And once you
[22:05] Speaker 2: invest in a couple guys like they do, get a
[22:08] Speaker 2: huge piece of your puzzle. Right Like in Flying j
[22:11] Speaker 2: if you buy the wrong building, whatever ten million are
[22:14] Speaker 2: are right off off to the next thing. In football,
[22:16] Speaker 2: like some of the like they got rid of Russell
[22:19] Speaker 2: Wilson in Denver. It really crippled their cap immediately right,
[22:22] Speaker 2: so's you can't just buy your way out of stuff,
[22:25] Speaker 2: regardless how much cash the owner actually has in its pocket.

[23:49] Speaker 4: I wanted to move on to the Knicks. So I
[23:52] Speaker 4: see this report this morning, and it's from Sham's talking
[23:56] Speaker 4: about how they're just calling up around all these big
[23:59] Speaker 4: shot code which is in the league. Jason Kidd, Doka,
[24:02] Speaker 4: Quinn Snyder, Chris Finch, what do you make of this
[24:06] Speaker 4: bizarre behavior.
[24:07] Speaker 1: From the Knicks right now? I'm not a tinfoil hat guy,
[24:11] Speaker 1: but James Dolan who's been in a band. I'm not
[24:14] Speaker 1: sure if he still is views himself as an artist
[24:18] Speaker 1: and that's why he is his his his greatest achievement
[24:23] Speaker 1: is not the Knicks. I mean he inherited the cable
[24:25] Speaker 1: vision from his dad. Right, it's the Sphere in Vegas,
[24:29] Speaker 1: which is a remarkable Have you been there? I think
[24:31] Speaker 1: you've been there six times.
[24:32] Speaker 2: I absolutely love it.
[24:34] Speaker 1: Yeah, So it's a remarkable musical engagement achievement all time
[24:38] Speaker 1: in the world, and that's really where his heart is.
[24:41] Speaker 1: Irving aves Off, a former great promoter now I think
[24:45] Speaker 1: he's MGM Management is one of his closest friends. He was,
[24:49] Speaker 1: you know, he was a had a record label. That's who.
[24:53] Speaker 1: That's who James Dolan is. So when he wants to
[24:56] Speaker 1: get a GM, he goes after a star Phil Jackson.
[24:59] Speaker 1: Then he wanted Steve Kerr and Amari Stodamire on Bad
[25:03] Speaker 1: Knees out of Phoenix and Tibbs isn't his kind of guy.
[25:07] Speaker 1: So who does he go after? Jason Kidd, who's a star.
[25:11] Speaker 1: He's interested in. Kevin Durant, who's a star. That's who
[25:14] Speaker 1: James Dolan is. He hangs around stars. He loves stars.
[25:18] Speaker 1: He's a creative. This is not a criticism, but I
[25:21] Speaker 1: think he listened to his players grumble. You know, he
[25:25] Speaker 1: sat down with his players and again he relates to
[25:28] Speaker 1: artists and athletes and stars. He just go look at
[25:31] Speaker 1: the history. And when he was doing the sphere for
[25:34] Speaker 1: two years, he was disengaged from the team and they
[25:36] Speaker 1: got very patient and very pragmatic and very basketball. He
[25:40] Speaker 1: and very villanova ish and that's Tibbs. And so you
[25:45] Speaker 1: get rid of Tibbs. It's not the same culture. It's
[25:49] Speaker 1: not the same team. You still have the Villanova guys,
[25:51] Speaker 1: but it won't feel the same. So it just it
[25:53] Speaker 1: just feels like James and I don't I almost you know,
[25:58] Speaker 1: he reminds me a little bit of Ersay and that
[26:01] Speaker 1: Ersay would rather sit with his guitar and hang out
[26:05] Speaker 1: with Dylan outside of football more than anything else. And
[26:09] Speaker 1: I think James Dolan's a little bit of that. And
[26:11] Speaker 1: I think he's an emotional guy. He's an artist. He
[26:14] Speaker 1: relates to artists and he listens to his stars, and
[26:18] Speaker 1: he didn't have a plan, and I think it's a big,
[26:21] Speaker 1: big mistake. This, by the way, this is what every
[26:26] Speaker 1: Nick fan dreaded is that when he came back from
[26:30] Speaker 1: the sphere he would get hands on And there are
[26:33] Speaker 1: various reports on who has their fingerprints on this, but
[26:36] Speaker 1: they're not getting rid of TIBs. He just signed a
[26:38] Speaker 1: new deal without Dolan, you know, acquiescing to a suggestion
[26:45] Speaker 1: or making the move himself. So in the end, this
[26:48] Speaker 1: is what the Knicks man. This league's crazy owners in
[26:53] Speaker 1: the NFL and the NBA. You know that all owners
[26:57] Speaker 1: now Jason are billionaires. It was years ago they weren't.
[27:01] Speaker 1: They made they were worth six hundred million or eight
[27:03] Speaker 1: hundred million. They wouldn't blow out staffs. They didn't want
[27:06] Speaker 1: to write a forty six million dollar check. That is
[27:08] Speaker 1: a rounding air. And now of these owners and they're
[27:12] Speaker 1: all I see it in the NFL all the time.
[27:13] Speaker 1: Guys will just blow out staffs. David Tepper write a
[27:16] Speaker 1: sixty eighty million dollar check. The dollars didn't want to
[27:19] Speaker 1: do that eight, ten, twelve years ago. They do now.
[27:22] Speaker 1: So I don't know who they're gonna land they they
[27:26] Speaker 1: I mean, they've been turned out by seven coaches, all
[27:28] Speaker 1: the good ones, Finch and Emo Duka and Jason Kidd,
[27:31] Speaker 1: and they're just getting turned out by everybody.
[27:34] Speaker 4: Yeah, matt Isshbia blew out of staff twice within two
[27:36] Speaker 4: years of owning the team.
[27:38] Speaker 2: It's ridiculous.
[27:40] Speaker 4: I uh, you know, it's it's fascinating because, like I
[27:42] Speaker 4: tried to look at it in a very open minded way,
[27:45] Speaker 4: because like I actually do think Jason Kid's a better
[27:47] Speaker 4: coach now than he gets credit for a couple of
[27:49] Speaker 4: years ago. I wasn't super high on him, but he,
[27:52] Speaker 4: just like anybody else, as a competitor, has been doing
[27:54] Speaker 4: it for a while now and he's gotten pretty good
[27:55] Speaker 4: at it. Like I was looking at the Knicks for
[27:58] Speaker 4: a second, like, I agree with you in terms of
[28:01] Speaker 4: the kind of topsy turvy unstable nature with which you
[28:05] Speaker 4: look and you portray to people when you fire your
[28:07] Speaker 4: coach in a situation like this. But I also think
[28:09] Speaker 4: Tims left some meat on the bone with this next team.
[28:11] Speaker 4: I thought they underachieved all season right out the gates.
[28:14] Speaker 4: They underachieved.
[28:14] Speaker 2: He brought it.
[28:16] Speaker 1: He's not a creative offensively, He's not like the team
[28:19] Speaker 1: got very predictable offensively.
[28:21] Speaker 4: I thought the major issue with this team schematically was spacing,
[28:25] Speaker 4: and it actually impacted both ends of the floor on offense.
[28:28] Speaker 4: Meant what you're mentioning in terms of creative offense, like
[28:31] Speaker 4: his what he did on offense in terms of his creativity.
[28:33] Speaker 4: The spacing for this team was extremely poor, which made
[28:36] Speaker 4: life very difficult, but it had a trickle down effect
[28:38] Speaker 4: in the sense that or spacing also affects your transition defense,
[28:42] Speaker 4: Like if you don't have your guys situated in proper
[28:44] Speaker 4: spaces on the floor, then on missus and turnovers, you
[28:47] Speaker 4: don't have guys in position to be back in transition defense.
[28:50] Speaker 4: And the Pacers annihilated them in transition in worse than
[28:54] Speaker 4: ever in game six, like embarrassing fashion in Game six
[28:57] Speaker 4: is Siakam and everyone else was just getting run out
[29:00] Speaker 4: up after runout dunk after runout layups. So like I
[29:02] Speaker 4: did think there was like a defensible case to move
[29:06] Speaker 4: on from TIBs to more of a tactician. I actually
[29:10] Speaker 4: see Jason Kidd as a solid option in the sense
[29:12] Speaker 4: that he was a master of modern four out spacing
[29:16] Speaker 4: with Luca when he was there, which actually I think
[29:18] Speaker 4: is a really natural fit with Brunson, and Brunson played
[29:22] Speaker 4: for Kid before, so there's like some natural stuff there.
[29:25] Speaker 4: And then he did a good job with transition defense
[29:27] Speaker 4: with the MAVs despite them not being super athletic. So
[29:29] Speaker 4: I give him credit for that that would work. The
[29:31] Speaker 4: thing there is, it's just unrealistic. And if I'm Jason Kidd,
[29:34] Speaker 4: why would Like, I don't actually see the Knicks as
[29:38] Speaker 4: that grade of a job, like insane New York pressure.
[29:42] Speaker 4: The roster is really good, but it's not amazing.
[29:46] Speaker 1: It's not Oh, by the way, Mikhale Bridges wants a
[29:49] Speaker 1: new contract. OG's getting paid, Brunson's getting paid like the
[29:53] Speaker 1: Mitchell Robinson. These guys are getting paid like that. Dallas
[29:57] Speaker 1: think Lively's not getting paid, Cooper Flag won't get paid.
[30:00] Speaker 1: I don't know if Max Christy doesn't cost much, AD's
[30:04] Speaker 1: getting paid, but you get twenty four and eleven Like, Yeah,
[30:07] Speaker 1: I look at Dallas and I'm like, I get excellence
[30:11] Speaker 1: when they're healthy, and I get an incredible top end
[30:15] Speaker 1: with Lively and Flagg. I know what the Knicks are
[30:18] Speaker 1: and there's a ceiling and I see it all the time.
[30:22] Speaker 4: Yeah, exactly, Like, I don't see it as being the
[30:25] Speaker 4: kind of job that Jason Kidd would be willing to
[30:27] Speaker 4: basically sabotage his situation and force his way there and
[30:30] Speaker 4: then like the other names I saw, I didn't even
[30:32] Speaker 4: particularly like, like ima Udoka is a motivator, that's like
[30:36] Speaker 4: his primary role, And I don't think that's a specific
[30:38] Speaker 4: need for the Knicks, Like I think the specific thing
[30:40] Speaker 4: that Nick's need is just someone to come in and
[30:43] Speaker 4: take them to the next level in terms of their
[30:45] Speaker 4: offensive organization and their spacing, which will lead to them
[30:48] Speaker 4: having a bunch of additional benefits and transition defense. I
[30:51] Speaker 4: understand there's a hesitancy to call a guy like Mike Malone,
[30:55] Speaker 4: and the reason why is because he has a reputation
[30:57] Speaker 4: for being a hard ass and Tibbs was kind of
[30:59] Speaker 4: a hard ass, and like, I don't think they want
[31:01] Speaker 4: to go down that route again. But there's like hard
[31:04] Speaker 4: ass and then there's TIBs. Like Mike Malone leaned on
[31:07] Speaker 4: his starters big minutes, but still not even close to
[31:11] Speaker 4: what Tibbs did. And one of the things I'll say
[31:13] Speaker 4: about Mike Malone, he was an excellent defense and spacing coach.
[31:17] Speaker 4: He made a championship defense out of non championship defensive
[31:21] Speaker 4: talent and they were always consistently one of the best
[31:24] Speaker 4: floor spacing teams in the league. And they were very
[31:26] Speaker 4: good and again, we can. We got to least acknowledge
[31:29] Speaker 4: Jokis was there. So Jokic makes it a lot easier, obviously,
[31:32] Speaker 4: but he specifically was very good at making spacing opportunities
[31:35] Speaker 4: out of non spacers, guys like Aaron Gordon, guys like
[31:38] Speaker 4: Christian Brown, guys like Bruce Brown over the years, guys
[31:41] Speaker 4: like h Russell Westbrook even so like fitting a guy
[31:45] Speaker 4: like Josh Hart, Mitchell Robinson, some of these non shooting
[31:47] Speaker 4: types of players, even Mkhail Bridges, who has struggled a
[31:50] Speaker 4: lot as a shooter in this postseason run. Like, I
[31:52] Speaker 4: actually think Mike Malone is a really good fit for
[31:54] Speaker 4: this NIXT team. I think he's a completely reasonable option
[31:57] Speaker 4: that doesn't involve you doing something insane like calling you
[32:00] Speaker 4: on the league. Because here's what gets crazy. Let's say
[32:01] Speaker 4: you call the MAVs and they're like, okay, sure, let's
[32:03] Speaker 4: talk about Jason Kidd. What are you going to offer us?
[32:06] Speaker 4: We already acknowledged this is not a championship roster, So
[32:09] Speaker 4: you're going to give up assets for a coach. You
[32:11] Speaker 4: need players, You need talent in there, so like its
[32:13] Speaker 4: specifically defensive talent your front court. So I don't really
[32:16] Speaker 4: understand what the endgame is here.
[32:18] Speaker 1: Yeah, I just I am on the short list of
[32:22] Speaker 1: people that think Dallas is going to be really good,
[32:24] Speaker 1: really fast. I think Flag and Lively are you know,
[32:29] Speaker 1: they're duke guys. They're going to be quick learners. They
[32:32] Speaker 1: play at the highest level of competition Collegiately, I think
[32:35] Speaker 1: One's going to be One's twenty one or twenty two.
[32:37] Speaker 1: He's going to be a rim protector for the next decade.
[32:40] Speaker 1: So Cooper Flag can be out in transition, won't have
[32:43] Speaker 1: to worry about being down low and getting jammed up,
[32:45] Speaker 1: which has always been what Lebron loves. He doesn't want
[32:47] Speaker 1: to be messed up in that junk. He wants to
[32:50] Speaker 1: you know, he wants that ball out and up the court.
[32:53] Speaker 1: So and I just you know, PJ. Washington, Christy. If
[32:57] Speaker 1: Kyrie comes back, I'm not sure what they're going to
[32:59] Speaker 1: do with him. Ad I would forget the taxes, forget
[33:04] Speaker 1: everything else. I would not lead Dallas. I think Dallas
[33:07] Speaker 1: is a good job. The situation that's fascinating to me
[33:11] Speaker 1: is Houston because I think I think right now san
[33:16] Speaker 1: Antonio is about ready to pop. So I like san
[33:20] Speaker 1: Antonio and they could get you honest, and I think, Okay,
[33:22] Speaker 1: see as set and I think Houston's going to be
[33:25] Speaker 1: in that group of three young teams a little lost
[33:28] Speaker 1: because Jalen Green, I'm in, Thompson's excellent, Sengoon's excellent, but
[33:34] Speaker 1: there's just a lot of athleticism that's not very good
[33:37] Speaker 1: in a half court game. And I think I think
[33:40] Speaker 1: Okase has popped. San Antonio is going to pop, and
[33:44] Speaker 1: I so I could if I'm if I'm a dooka,
[33:49] Speaker 1: I would consider the job. I think Houston's one of
[33:52] Speaker 1: those that, like the national media, we hover in, we
[33:55] Speaker 1: drop in, we go, oh okay, Houston didn't like what
[34:00] Speaker 1: I saw, I'll be honest, and I think you can
[34:03] Speaker 1: push him around. I don't think they have a lot
[34:06] Speaker 1: of half court possessions that are just sort of lost.
[34:09] Speaker 1: You don't get good looks. They look a little disorganized eye.
[34:14] Speaker 1: But Jason kid to me, the next five years in
[34:18] Speaker 1: Dallas are gonna be fascinating with just this trajectory that
[34:21] Speaker 1: goes through the roof.
[34:23] Speaker 4: The roster is weird because it's kind of imbalanced in
[34:27] Speaker 4: a sense that they just have an absurd amount of
[34:29] Speaker 4: front court talent, like you don't relively, Gafford, Anthony Davis, PJ.
[34:34] Speaker 2: Washington, and Cooper Flag.
[34:35] Speaker 4: Like that's five starting caliber players that all play the
[34:38] Speaker 4: four or the five. So like, I do see an
[34:41] Speaker 4: imbalance there, but there's an insane amount of talent. And
[34:44] Speaker 4: I actually go the other way there, which is like
[34:46] Speaker 4: they can afford to go into training camp and just
[34:48] Speaker 4: bring all these guys in and start playing and basically
[34:51] Speaker 4: look around the league and be like, who's gonna throw
[34:53] Speaker 4: us the Godfather offer for PJ. Washington, for Daniel gafferd Ford,
[34:58] Speaker 4: Anthony Davis, Like you could a argue that Ad is
[35:01] Speaker 4: going to be the target that someone goes after, like
[35:03] Speaker 4: because Ad is hurt now, so he's got that classic
[35:06] Speaker 4: Everyone's down on him. They think he's old, they think
[35:08] Speaker 4: he's beat up. Ad comes out of training camp looking
[35:10] Speaker 4: like he's in great shape, motivated, kicks everybody's butt for
[35:13] Speaker 4: a couple of months. He instantly becomes like a dude
[35:15] Speaker 4: you could flip for an enormous mountain of assets.
[35:18] Speaker 1: So I.
[35:20] Speaker 4: Look at Dallas as a very very healthy situation moving forward.
[35:23] Speaker 4: It's not the same Luka Doncic were right on the
[35:25] Speaker 4: doorstep of the title, but they do have a lot
[35:28] Speaker 4: of big picture potential. We got a report from Shams
[35:32] Speaker 4: today that Kevin Durant and his business partner, Ridge Climate
[35:36] Speaker 4: are kind of canvassing the league looking for potential opportunities.
[35:40] Speaker 4: The five names that were thrown out in the SHAMS
[35:43] Speaker 4: report for the Houston Rockets, San Antonio Spurs, the Miami Heat,
[35:47] Speaker 4: the Minnesota Timberwolves, in the New York Knicks. Did where
[35:51] Speaker 4: did your head go when you saw that report this morning?
[35:54] Speaker 1: Well, I think he works everywhere. I think there's very
[35:57] Speaker 1: few players that fit everywhere, and Katie is one of them.
[36:01] Speaker 1: He doesn't necessarily need to be the soul of the team.
[36:04] Speaker 1: He doesn't need the ball constantly in his hands. You
[36:07] Speaker 1: get great length, a willing defender twenty four, twenty six.
[36:13] Speaker 1: I think KD fits everywhere. You know, if I was
[36:19] Speaker 1: KD I in New York, I think he fits New
[36:25] Speaker 1: York well. But Brunson has the ball in his hands.
[36:27] Speaker 1: I mean in his mind, is he thinking Brunston's got
[36:29] Speaker 1: some Westbrook like dribble the air out of the ball.
[36:33] Speaker 1: And I'm sitting in the corner like I could see him,
[36:36] Speaker 1: like I've been through that. You know, Kyrie, who he
[36:39] Speaker 1: played with, also can be a little bit like that.
[36:42] Speaker 1: So I could see KD just saying, you know, because
[36:44] Speaker 1: he's got the leverage here, I could see him saying,
[36:47] Speaker 1: I've kind of done the ball centric guard thing. I
[36:52] Speaker 1: just don't want it again. Pat Riley and Spolster are
[36:56] Speaker 1: very convincing people. Miami's a great place to play, no
[36:59] Speaker 1: state tax, It's a winter league, a lot of warm weather. Like,
[37:02] Speaker 1: Miami's a really attractive place out east. But I'm a
[37:07] Speaker 1: KD fan. I think he fits in a lot of
[37:08] Speaker 1: places in Minnesota. He obviously fits. And you know, we've
[37:13] Speaker 1: talked about this, like Lebron in his prime was great,
[37:16] Speaker 1: but he had to be the offensive ecosystem you had
[37:18] Speaker 1: to Chris Bosh had to reduce, you know, got marginalized.
[37:22] Speaker 1: Kevin Love can get marginalized guys get away from the rim.
[37:25] Speaker 1: Go you know, Kyrie Irving, you can't have the ball
[37:28] Speaker 1: that So Kevin never provides that kind of obstacle, Like
[37:35] Speaker 1: he just kind of fits. So I can tell you this,
[37:40] Speaker 1: if if if if you were a GM and you
[37:42] Speaker 1: talk to a coach or players, a lot of guys
[37:46] Speaker 1: would raise their hands and say, get KD. Because I
[37:48] Speaker 1: think he loves basketball. He's a good teammate, He's got
[37:51] Speaker 1: a good sense of humor. He doesn't need to be
[37:53] Speaker 1: the media darling. I think he's really liked and respected
[37:56] Speaker 1: in the league.
[37:57] Speaker 2: One hundredsent agree.
[37:58] Speaker 1: You know.
[37:58] Speaker 4: I love the point you made about his fit, Like
[38:00] Speaker 4: he all five of these teams the basketball makes a
[38:03] Speaker 4: lot of sense.
[38:04] Speaker 2: There's one.
[38:05] Speaker 4: The one team that I was like that doesn't make
[38:07] Speaker 4: as much of a sense in terms of the basketball
[38:09] Speaker 4: fit to me was the Spurs because it's like, I
[38:11] Speaker 4: don't love the idea of putting a super thin front
[38:13] Speaker 4: court player that likes the perimeter next to another super
[38:16] Speaker 4: thin front court player that likes them.
[38:17] Speaker 1: Yeah.
[38:18] Speaker 4: I wasn't a huge fan of that one. It also
[38:20] Speaker 4: just doesn't really fit San Antonio's timeline. So the Spurs
[38:23] Speaker 4: one was weird for me. The Heat, I like the fit.
[38:26] Speaker 4: I just don't know why KD would go there because
[38:28] Speaker 4: it just feels like another move to a team that's
[38:30] Speaker 4: not good enough to win the title. Like I'm just
[38:32] Speaker 4: not sure that like is Kevin Durant, Tyler Harrow, bam Adebayo,
[38:37] Speaker 4: is that enough to win the title. I don't.
[38:39] Speaker 1: I don't think so much. But like when I'm watching
[38:42] Speaker 1: that kid Benedict Mathern. Mathern for Indy Tonight. I mean,
[38:47] Speaker 1: I'm not trying to overreact here, but when I'm watching
[38:50] Speaker 1: him and I'm like, Jesus, he's just a kid, Like
[38:53] Speaker 1: he's gonna you're gonna get this two out of three
[38:56] Speaker 1: games next year, like this is this? I mean, by
[38:58] Speaker 1: the way, again, I think was either third leading scorer
[39:00] Speaker 1: on the team or fourth leading scorer this year.
[39:02] Speaker 4: Like he coming into the coming into this series. He
[39:06] Speaker 4: was actually the highest per minute score for the Pacers
[39:09] Speaker 4: in this playoff run because I use it a shorter roll,
[39:11] Speaker 4: but his like points per thirty six minutes was the
[39:13] Speaker 4: highest on the team.
[39:13] Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So I watch him and I think, oh,
[39:17] Speaker 1: he's going to become a full time starter and it
[39:20] Speaker 1: will be Siakam Halle and Mathern are their three leading scorers.
[39:25] Speaker 1: So I mean, I just I'm looking at the East
[39:26] Speaker 1: and I'm like, I think Indiana is going to take
[39:29] Speaker 1: a leap next year. You know, they'll play with a
[39:31] Speaker 1: finals level confidence. So I just I don't think. I
[39:37] Speaker 1: just I and I'm not just saying this because they're
[39:40] Speaker 1: up two to one. I look at Indiana and I'm like, man,
[39:44] Speaker 1: that is a team with I mean outside of I
[39:50] Speaker 1: mean Sayakam, he is what he is. I feel like
[39:55] Speaker 1: seventy five percent of Indiana all those players will be
[39:58] Speaker 1: better next year. I mean out Seawkams game is his game.
[40:02] Speaker 1: They're better than they were last year. It's just like
[40:05] Speaker 1: all of them. I was just so impressed with him tonight.
[40:09] Speaker 1: So we can start talking about with Tatum out next year.
[40:13] Speaker 1: It's gonna run through Indy. We've got to be honest
[40:16] Speaker 1: about this. It's gonna run through Indy. They are deep,
[40:18] Speaker 1: they're well coached. Most of their players are ascending. The
[40:22] Speaker 1: East is running through Indy.
[40:24] Speaker 2: Yeah.
[40:25] Speaker 4: I agree, And I don't see the heat as like
[40:28] Speaker 4: an obvious like, oh, he goes there and he's all
[40:30] Speaker 4: of a sudden the favorite in the Eastern Conference.
[40:33] Speaker 2: I like the Rockets fit.
[40:34] Speaker 4: I think his skill set is desperately needed as a
[40:37] Speaker 4: guy who's a shot creator gone shoot from the perimeter.
[40:40] Speaker 4: He also brings length at the rim, which is not
[40:42] Speaker 4: like the Rockets are a big, strong team. They're not
[40:45] Speaker 4: like a long arms team. Like Jabari Smith Junior is
[40:47] Speaker 4: like the one guy they have that offers The.
[40:49] Speaker 1: Rockets need him. Jason, I would argue the Rockets need
[40:52] Speaker 1: him more than any other team that he would play for.
[40:55] Speaker 1: They need him their half court offense gets lost a.
[40:59] Speaker 4: Lot, Yeah, and he would go in there and immediately
[41:03] Speaker 4: vault them into top tier championship contention, So that move
[41:05] Speaker 4: makes some sense. I will say, by far, out of
[41:07] Speaker 4: these five teams, my favorite fit is the Timberwolves. It's
[41:11] Speaker 4: a similar lack of redundancy in the sense that he
[41:14] Speaker 4: brings kind of like exactly what the team doesn't have,
[41:17] Speaker 4: which is a rock solid secondary ball handler next to
[41:20] Speaker 4: Ant who can really generate shots for his team. But
[41:23] Speaker 4: they can surround KD with elite super physical defense, which
[41:27] Speaker 4: is what he hasn't had in these other destinations. And
[41:30] Speaker 4: also similarly, Nas red not super vertical, Julius Randall not
[41:34] Speaker 4: super vertical, Rudy Gobert is vertical, but like they, Kevin
[41:39] Speaker 4: Durant would be a guy at the four spot, different
[41:41] Speaker 4: from Kat last year, different from Nas who brings real
[41:44] Speaker 4: vertical length to the table where you can imagine Jaden McDaniels,
[41:49] Speaker 4: Kevin Durant and Rudy Gobert on the floor together in
[41:51] Speaker 4: that front line and it's like all arms just everywhere,
[41:53] Speaker 4: and it would just be really, really difficult to handle,
[41:55] Speaker 4: but it's gonna be really interesting. I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful
[41:58] Speaker 4: that we get a pretty quick, like a set of
[42:01] Speaker 4: action here in late June where we find out where
[42:03] Speaker 4: all these guys land. But Colin, I sincerely appreciate you
[42:06] Speaker 4: taking the time to join us tonight. It was good
[42:09] Speaker 4: to see you, Colin. It was great to see you man,
[42:11] Speaker 4: great to see you buddy.
