[0:00] Speaker 1: Welcome to the best of the week for What's Right
[0:02] Speaker 1: with Nick Right the best takes in moments from this
[0:05] Speaker 1: week on the show. Enjoy.
[0:09] Speaker 2: So the Bucks moved to two to zero after a
[0:11] Speaker 2: late score led by Baker late in the game. Is
[0:14] Speaker 2: betting Baker down a score late in the game as
[0:16] Speaker 2: much of a lock is good of a lock these days?
[0:20] Speaker 1: Yeah? Listen, shout out producer Daniel, who texted the group
[0:27] Speaker 1: when Baker got the ball back down five? You know,
[0:31] Speaker 1: is this an auto bet? And I think we you know,
[0:35] Speaker 1: I bet it. I think he bet it. I also
[0:38] Speaker 1: had the Bucks parlayed with the Raiders, so I'm glad
[0:45] Speaker 1: I bet it because I ended up losing that one,
[0:48] Speaker 1: so this made up for it. I couple things about that.
[0:52] Speaker 1: One is about the specific game, and then I'll get
[0:56] Speaker 1: to Baker. I never feel like team or very often
[1:02] Speaker 1: announcers make a big enough deal of the two point
[1:08] Speaker 1: conversion to go up seven. So last night the Texans,
[1:13] Speaker 1: Nick Chubb breaks off this great run, so they score
[1:19] Speaker 1: with how much time is left? When they score two?
[1:23] Speaker 1: Ten left? And that two point conversion they go for
[1:29] Speaker 1: there is just so wildly important because you get it
[1:35] Speaker 1: and likely overtimes the worst case scenario, you don't get it,
[1:40] Speaker 1: and you almost feel like, man, do we wish Chub
[1:44] Speaker 1: hadn't have scored because if Chubb, if Chubb had gone down,
[1:49] Speaker 1: and then you're in a position where because they were
[1:54] Speaker 1: at the time Houston was down, what would they have
[1:58] Speaker 1: been down? They were down four? Right then, I'm an idiot?
[2:03] Speaker 1: Why can I not get this right? The they got?
[2:09] Speaker 1: Why am I so dumb? Right now? The score of
[2:12] Speaker 1: the game five was fourteen thirteen. Yeah, jesus, they're down one.
[2:20] Speaker 1: I'm such what the hell just happened there? And if
[2:24] Speaker 1: Chubb doesn't score, all of a sudden, Tampa is having
[2:29] Speaker 1: to use its timeouts. You're kicking a field goal, you know,
[2:32] Speaker 1: potentially later. But Chubb does score, that's great. You want
[2:35] Speaker 1: the seven, but what you need is the eight. They
[2:38] Speaker 1: don't get the two point conversion, and now Baker's in business.
[2:42] Speaker 1: All three timeouts two minutes can get going with that said,
[2:46] Speaker 1: Texans had him in fourth and ten, and then Baker
[2:49] Speaker 1: did some really cool Baker stuff, escaping the rush, running
[2:54] Speaker 1: seemingly got hurt, then got saved by the fact that
[3:00] Speaker 1: Chauncey Gardner Johnson was talking trash and all of a sudden,
[3:03] Speaker 1: he wasn't hurt anymore, and he popped up to talk
[3:05] Speaker 1: drafts right back to him. Baker is just the best,
[3:07] Speaker 1: and Baker absolutely can win League MVP this year. Absolutely can,
[3:14] Speaker 1: and the Bucks absolutely can be the one seed as
[3:18] Speaker 1: predicted on this show.
[3:21] Speaker 2: Bucks, No, why would I?
[3:28] Speaker 1: I mean, they have played two road games against teams
[3:33] Speaker 1: that were considered either possible or likely playoff teams. They
[3:39] Speaker 1: could have lost both, and Baker made game winning plays
[3:44] Speaker 1: in the waning moments of both. Now they get the Jets,
[3:48] Speaker 1: then a tough home game against the Eagles, but they
[3:51] Speaker 1: play the Eagles really well. Seahawks, Niners, Lions. It's not easy.
[3:57] Speaker 1: But no, they've got a real.
[4:00] Speaker 2: You're missing a couple of guys on offense right now too.
[4:02] Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely, Godlin's going to be coming back. No, now,
[4:07] Speaker 1: I think they lost excuse me, Elijah Cantsey in that game.
[4:12] Speaker 1: That's concerning. But no, the Bucks are for real now.
[4:16] Speaker 1: On the Baker piece of it, it really gets lost
[4:23] Speaker 1: in the shuffle, Demons, not lost in the shuffle. But
[4:26] Speaker 1: I just want to reiterate this that the Cleveland Browns
[4:31] Speaker 1: spent the number one overall pick on Baker Mayfield watched
[4:37] Speaker 1: him in his second year win a playoff game for them,
[4:44] Speaker 1: and then they were like, yeah, he's not good enough
[4:46] Speaker 1: for us. They're like, yeah, we can do better. You're
[4:52] Speaker 1: the Cleveland Browns. And you decided that Baker Mayfield was
[5:00] Speaker 1: not uh And I said in his second year he
[5:03] Speaker 1: won the playoff game. It was in his third year
[5:05] Speaker 1: he won the playoff game. Pardon me, you decided a
[5:10] Speaker 1: guy who won a playoff game as a Browns homegrown
[5:14] Speaker 1: starting quarterback wasn't good enough for you because Odell Beckham
[5:19] Speaker 1: Junior's dad put out an Instagram mixtape ripping It in
[5:24] Speaker 1: a year he played hurt It and now you're just
[5:30] Speaker 1: in hell. It's really really unbelievable. And I love seeing
[5:37] Speaker 1: Baker have this success. I love it so much. The
[5:41] Speaker 1: flip side demons is panic meter is at a seven
[5:50] Speaker 1: for the Texans and for CJ.
[5:56] Speaker 2: Like, if you're losing, like after, he shouldn't bring it
[5:59] Speaker 2: out in the third game. He's done at the first
[6:00] Speaker 2: two games. He shouldn't be able to.
[6:02] Speaker 1: I don't even know. I'll be honest, I don't even
[6:04] Speaker 1: know what you're talking about.
[6:05] Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, it's it's probably algorithm. Well, he's like doing
[6:10] Speaker 2: between the legs, walking up and down the field. Maybe
[6:13] Speaker 2: you throwing out your receivers or something. Guys need to
[6:16] Speaker 2: be more in tune. But yeah, while losing that, you
[6:20] Speaker 2: can't be doing that. Just feel like the sport.
[6:24] Speaker 1: No I like it. I mean, I mean I like
[6:27] Speaker 1: your your critique of.
[6:30] Speaker 2: It, but yeah, like you said, ever since he said
[6:33] Speaker 2: that thing to Caleb Williams, it's just kind of been
[6:35] Speaker 2: on a downward slope.
[6:37] Speaker 1: Contractually obligated to give you guys the numbers on this one, CJ. Stroud.
[6:43] Speaker 1: Let me see if I can get Football Reference to
[6:46] Speaker 1: cooperate with me. CJ. Stroud through that game with Caleb
[6:51] Speaker 1: Williams in the regular season in his career eleven and
[6:57] Speaker 1: six twenty six touchdowns, five picks, a one oh one rating. CJ.
[7:05] Speaker 1: Stroud since he told Caleb Williams, come here, a young fellow,
[7:09] Speaker 1: let me teach you a thing or two. Eight and
[7:13] Speaker 1: nine eighteen touchdowns, thirteen picks and eighty five rating, life
[7:21] Speaker 1: can come out with your fast man and the Texans
[7:23] Speaker 1: offensive operation just does not look good. The defense is
[7:27] Speaker 1: still awesome, but what the Texans have going for them,
[7:32] Speaker 1: obviously is the division. They're in and if you don't
[7:36] Speaker 1: believe in the Colts, that division's gonna feel winnable. But
[7:44] Speaker 1: they they're at Jacksonville this weekend, big game. That's that's
[7:49] Speaker 1: for both teams. Big game, big game. Then they get
[7:53] Speaker 1: a little respit against the Titans. Then it's at the
[7:56] Speaker 1: Ravens at Seattle. It's tough man and so yeah, I'd
[8:04] Speaker 1: be I'd be a little more than a little nervous
[8:07] Speaker 1: if I were the Texans. All right, let's get to
[8:09] Speaker 1: the other Monday night game.
[8:13] Speaker 2: So the Chargers look good again for the most part
[8:16] Speaker 2: last night with another divisional win. Do you think this
[8:19] Speaker 2: is the cream of the crop in that division?
[8:23] Speaker 1: Listen, I think the Chiefs will end up winning the division,
[8:27] Speaker 1: but I have to give the Chargers have looked really good. Now.
[8:32] Speaker 1: I thought the Chargers at the end of the game,
[8:34] Speaker 1: as I said earlier, made some really really poor game
[8:40] Speaker 1: management decisions, and I don't understand like the Chargers. It's fine,
[8:45] Speaker 1: I guess, but it is odd to me that both
[8:49] Speaker 1: the Chargers and Otter for the Raiders spent such premium
[8:54] Speaker 1: draft picks on running backs and don't want to give
[8:57] Speaker 1: them the ball like the Raiders refuse usual to get
[9:01] Speaker 1: Ashton Genty involved, and it's like, because he's not good
[9:04] Speaker 1: in pass protection, we'll just have I understand, you don't
[9:07] Speaker 1: want to tip your hand on Oh we're running this
[9:10] Speaker 1: guy's you know on the field, But you can't spend
[9:13] Speaker 1: the sixth pick of the draft on a guy he was,
[9:18] Speaker 1: you know, and give him eleven carries in a game
[9:20] Speaker 1: where Gino's having the worst game of his career. Just
[9:24] Speaker 1: can't do it. And the Chargers defense looks awesome and
[9:31] Speaker 1: Herbert's been really good. My only Charger concern is I
[9:35] Speaker 1: think Herbert's running it too much, and that is concerning
[9:40] Speaker 1: the other piece of that game is and do we
[9:43] Speaker 1: have any reporting on what Khalil Mack's injury was. I
[9:50] Speaker 1: know that he was in a sling and he was
[9:52] Speaker 1: holding his arm and so that didn't look good. That
[9:55] Speaker 1: could be really damaging as well the Raiders. The It
[10:00] Speaker 1: would have been amazing if the Raiders could have started
[10:03] Speaker 1: three and oh, all right, I'm sorry, two and oh
[10:08] Speaker 1: they they'll they'll take one in one, especially because Demon's
[10:14] Speaker 1: Raiders next four at the Commanders in a game Jayden
[10:18] Speaker 1: might not play, then Home Bears at calls Home Titans.
[10:24] Speaker 1: Raiders really need to make Hey this next month and
[10:27] Speaker 1: Geno will bounce back. That was a really rough Geno game,
[10:31] Speaker 1: and we talked a little bit about the Chargers earlier.

[12:35] Speaker 1: hundred Gambler in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee
[12:39] Speaker 1: and Virginia. I am not going to sit here and
[12:47] Speaker 1: act like everything's fine with the Chiefs right now. It is.
[12:52] Speaker 1: There are some I want to focus on the concern
[13:00] Speaker 1: things that have occurred in both games. Okay, So for instance,
[13:06] Speaker 1: Week one, the secondary, which has been a strength of
[13:10] Speaker 1: this team, looked hugely problematic against Herbert and the Chargers.
[13:16] Speaker 1: Week two, I thought the secondary looked really good. Right,
[13:19] Speaker 1: So like that's the one good game, one bad game.
[13:23] Speaker 1: I'm not focusing on that. Here is what through two
[13:26] Speaker 1: weeks looks problematic, and I don't know where the solve
[13:32] Speaker 1: for it is. The Chiefs running game is as inept
[13:39] Speaker 1: right now as it's ever been since Patrick's been there.
[13:44] Speaker 1: Pachecko sadly just does not look like the same player
[13:48] Speaker 1: he was before he broke his leg. And what's odd
[13:53] Speaker 1: about it is his biggest problem through two weeks doesn't
[13:57] Speaker 1: seem to be explosion. It seems to be vision and
[14:02] Speaker 1: hitting the right hole. You wouldn't think that is related
[14:06] Speaker 1: to a lower body injury, but he just hasn't been effective.
[14:11] Speaker 1: Kareem Hunt is who he is. If you need one
[14:15] Speaker 1: yard more way, more often than not, he will get
[14:19] Speaker 1: it for you, but he has no chance of getting
[14:22] Speaker 1: you ten. And they brought in Elijah Mitchell. Nothing's happened there.
[14:27] Speaker 1: They drafted Brischard Smith in the I think seventh round.
[14:30] Speaker 1: He's seventh round rookie. Like they just right now don't
[14:34] Speaker 1: have the horses in the running back room, and that
[14:38] Speaker 1: is a spot that I would not at all hate
[14:44] Speaker 1: for them to be active on in the trade market.
[14:50] Speaker 1: I think we have. There has been a lot of
[14:52] Speaker 1: discussion of should the Chiefs trade for Tyreek Hill? The
[14:56] Speaker 1: wide receivers are coming back, Okay, I if I were
[15:02] Speaker 1: doing a trade with Miami, I might be equally, if
[15:06] Speaker 1: not more, interested in Devin h Chan Like I think
[15:10] Speaker 1: that there are you running backs will be and should
[15:16] Speaker 1: be available, and that might be a spot that they
[15:19] Speaker 1: have to bite the bullet and spend some draft capital
[15:22] Speaker 1: via trade on. So that's one piece and here's another one.
[15:28] Speaker 1: As good as Josh Simmons has been at the left
[15:32] Speaker 1: tackle spot, Patrick still doesn't feel totally comfortable in his protection. Now,
[15:38] Speaker 1: some of that's been the left guard spot's been really problematic.
[15:43] Speaker 1: But Creed's great, Tray's great, Simmons is really good. Joan
[15:49] Speaker 1: Taylor when he's not committing penalties is fine, and Patrick
[15:53] Speaker 1: just seems like he doesn't trust it right now. And
[15:58] Speaker 1: I am as he's confident in Patrick Mahomes as any
[16:02] Speaker 1: player that's ever played in the league, that he will
[16:05] Speaker 1: figure stuff out. And there have been times this season
[16:08] Speaker 1: where it has felt like he's out there. I don't
[16:11] Speaker 1: want to say by himself, but nobody can get open.
[16:15] Speaker 1: They can't run the ball, which has forced him to
[16:18] Speaker 1: and this is the part of the season that I
[16:20] Speaker 1: have liked the absolute least. It has forced him to
[16:25] Speaker 1: activate playoff running Mahomes in weeks one and two, and
[16:30] Speaker 1: I despise that because obviously it puts him in jeopardy,
[16:39] Speaker 1: which is the biggest concern. But the other thing is
[16:42] Speaker 1: one of the reasons he has had the postseason success
[16:47] Speaker 1: that he's had. One of the reasons he has been
[16:50] Speaker 1: so much more dynamic and effective statistically and from a
[16:57] Speaker 1: winning perspective on a per game basis than any other
[17:00] Speaker 1: quarterback in the history of the league come the postseason
[17:03] Speaker 1: is because every single postseason he adds a huge weapon
[17:10] Speaker 1: to his game that is not there in the regular season,
[17:13] Speaker 1: which is the quarterback runs the scrambles, and if he's
[17:17] Speaker 1: using that during the regular season. It has just multiple concerns.
[17:22] Speaker 1: One is he can get banged up. Another is you're
[17:26] Speaker 1: not getting that auto postseason boost. Like Josh Allen and
[17:31] Speaker 1: Lamar are unbelievable runners at the quarterback position. They do
[17:36] Speaker 1: it starting in Week one and never stop. So it
[17:39] Speaker 1: doesn't add an element to their game come the playoffs.
[17:43] Speaker 1: It has for Patrick and the last listen issue on
[17:47] Speaker 1: offense is the greatest tight end in the history of
[17:50] Speaker 1: the league has had a really rough two weeks. There's
[17:54] Speaker 1: no way around it. Third play of the season. I
[17:58] Speaker 1: thought it was Xavier's mistake. He says it was his
[18:01] Speaker 1: mistake that he ran the wrong depth of his route
[18:04] Speaker 1: and Xavier's hurt. Later in that game, he and Patrick
[18:08] Speaker 1: aren't on quite the same page. When they're down nine
[18:12] Speaker 1: about to score, they don't connect on what would have
[18:15] Speaker 1: been a touchdown. And then obviously the Eagles game, they're
[18:20] Speaker 1: about to take the lead and he bobbles a pass
[18:25] Speaker 1: and it turns into a game changing interception. That's all.
[18:32] Speaker 1: It's been highly damaging. I don't know if it's yet
[18:36] Speaker 1: highly concerning, but it's highly damaging. Okay, So there is
[18:41] Speaker 1: that piece of it on the defensive side of the ball.
[18:46] Speaker 1: The only complaint I have after week two is they
[18:53] Speaker 1: cannot seem to get pressure without sending a blitz, like
[18:57] Speaker 1: if they rush for they just can't and not get home.
[19:01] Speaker 1: So I don't know if that means the rookies Ashton
[19:04] Speaker 1: Jalot or Omar Norman Lot need to be more effective.
[19:08] Speaker 1: Certainly Charles Amena who needs to be more effective. Mike
[19:12] Speaker 1: Dana got hurt in this game. That didn't help. George
[19:15] Speaker 1: Garloft has just got paid by this team, he needs
[19:19] Speaker 1: to be more effective. Like Chris Jones is a man
[19:23] Speaker 1: on an island at times. And so those are real problems, okay,
[19:30] Speaker 1: And right now the Chiefs don't deserve to be anything
[19:36] Speaker 1: close to Super Bowl favorites. I'm not gonna sit here
[19:39] Speaker 1: and act like, ah, they got unlucky, they got this. No.
[19:43] Speaker 1: If anything, it is surprising that they have had a
[19:50] Speaker 1: chance to win both of these games when they haven't
[19:55] Speaker 1: played well. They've missed kicks in both games, they have
[20:00] Speaker 1: haven't forced a turnover. So that is the true and fair,
[20:05] Speaker 1: sober analysis of where the Chiefs are through two weeks.
[20:10] Speaker 1: Anything past that is nonsense. Anyone trying to pedal Wow,
[20:20] Speaker 1: should they be worried about making the playoffs. I think
[20:24] Speaker 1: has lost their mind. Now is the division for the
[20:31] Speaker 1: first time in jeopardy. Yeah, when you're zero to two
[20:39] Speaker 1: and a team that beat you is two to zero
[20:42] Speaker 1: with a divisional win, it's understandable that the Chiefs are
[20:50] Speaker 1: no longer the favorites in the division Demons And where
[20:54] Speaker 1: where does hard Rock Bet have them at right now?
[20:57] Speaker 2: They've got them at plus two forty to win the division?
[21:00] Speaker 2: Should you hammer that?
[21:03] Speaker 1: I mean, listen, as it's not surprising to you. Probably
[21:06] Speaker 1: I have a lot of exposure already on the Chiefs,
[21:10] Speaker 1: you know, futures and season and win total. But I
[21:14] Speaker 1: think plus two point forty is good value right now
[21:21] Speaker 1: when I do right now, if I had to pick it,
[21:24] Speaker 1: I would still pick the Chiefs to win the division.
[21:26] Speaker 1: And part of that is some concerning stuff I saw
[21:34] Speaker 1: no from no from the Chargers the Houston doesn't apply
[21:39] Speaker 1: here from the Chargers last night late in that game,
[21:44] Speaker 1: and we'll get into that when we talk about the Chargers.
[21:46] Speaker 1: I thought the Chargers almost went out of their way
[21:50] Speaker 1: to try to keep the Raiders in that game. And
[21:54] Speaker 1: it's what's true for Patrick is true for all these quarterbacks.
[21:59] Speaker 1: Any quarterback that's running a ton early in the year,
[22:03] Speaker 1: I get worried about. And Justin Herbert's running a lot,
[22:07] Speaker 1: and you know that I think that, And he took
[22:10] Speaker 1: a wicked shot yesterday, and then they also had him
[22:15] Speaker 1: late in the game when the game was decided to
[22:18] Speaker 1: another quarterback run that I totally didn't understand. And so
[22:23] Speaker 1: I still believe the Chiefs are the best team in
[22:26] Speaker 1: the AFC West. You can't right now say they're better
[22:30] Speaker 1: than Buffalo or Baltimore. You can say, however, right now,
[22:37] Speaker 1: in a span of two quick weeks, after for the
[22:41] Speaker 1: last few years the AFC clearly being the better of
[22:47] Speaker 1: the two conferences, the NFC right now seems far superior
[22:53] Speaker 1: and far deeper. Like demon's who in the AFC East Buffalo, Miami,
[23:01] Speaker 1: New England, the Jets. There's one team you believe in
[23:05] Speaker 1: in Buffalo, the AFC North, Baltimore, since Pittsburgh, Cleveland, there's
[23:14] Speaker 1: one team you believe in the AFC South. Right now,
[23:19] Speaker 1: there might be zero teams you believe in unless you
[23:23] Speaker 1: or the generic you to the audience really does believe
[23:27] Speaker 1: what the culture doing is sustainable. I don't know that
[23:30] Speaker 1: I believe it the AFC West, on the other hand,
[23:33] Speaker 1: might have a bunch of you know, the Chargers, the Broncos,
[23:36] Speaker 1: the Chiefs, the Raiders. Still like it is, It's remarkable
[23:42] Speaker 1: to me how open the middle part of the conferences.
[23:49] Speaker 1: And so I think it's fair to say the Chiefs
[23:52] Speaker 1: have basically not punted but given up the opportunity to
[23:56] Speaker 1: be the one seed. You know, I think that's fair.
[24:00] Speaker 1: I think there's you know, there are real things they
[24:02] Speaker 1: need to clean up. I also feel this way, they
[24:07] Speaker 1: are potentially twelve days away from everyone saying how silly
[24:17] Speaker 1: we should feel for writing off the Chiefs because you
[24:22] Speaker 1: beat the Giants this weekend. You didn't have a game
[24:26] Speaker 1: against Baltimore that if you win, you're right back to
[24:30] Speaker 1: being the Chiefs and all this stuff about oh the
[24:34] Speaker 1: mystique is gone or this or that that's gone like
[24:37] Speaker 1: that and that conversation is gone and so big but
[24:44] Speaker 1: big next few weeks and big stretch of time before
[24:48] Speaker 1: Rashi comes back. Xavier might be back this weekend, he'll
[24:52] Speaker 1: definitely be back for the Raven game. And listen, they
[24:59] Speaker 1: need to have a receiver that can beat man to
[25:03] Speaker 1: man coverage and the idea that like mahomes is being
[25:10] Speaker 1: exposed without a dynamic receiver is belied by the fact
[25:17] Speaker 1: that he won League MVP with a receiving corps led
[25:22] Speaker 1: by juju An MVS, and the next year won Super
[25:27] Speaker 1: Bowl MVP with an even worse receiving corps. And last
[25:31] Speaker 1: year they went fifteen to two and made the Super
[25:35] Speaker 1: Bowl with Rashim missing basically the whole year. So I
[25:40] Speaker 1: think that's too reactionary, but somebody's got to get open
[25:45] Speaker 1: at some point. Ever, sign up for phone plan thinking wow,
[25:49] Speaker 1: great price, and then a few months later it's like, surprise,

[26:31] Speaker 2: Let's talk Chief Giants. A big game for your boys
[26:34] Speaker 2: over there in narrow Head. Yeah, so they got the
[26:36] Speaker 2: Giants this Sunday. They are zero and two. For the
[26:39] Speaker 2: first time in the Mahomes era they faced the Giants. Obviously,
[26:43] Speaker 2: they are one and eleven in the last twelve at MetLife.
[26:46] Speaker 2: What is at stake for Kansas City here?
[26:50] Speaker 1: Well, I if they were to lose Sunday, I are
[26:58] Speaker 1: They're one to eleven in the last twelve met Life. Yeah,
[27:02] Speaker 1: I was gonna say it wouldn't that was like that.
[27:04] Speaker 1: That number surprised me. I'm sure it's not that. I
[27:07] Speaker 1: wonder what their record is the Giants in their last
[27:09] Speaker 1: twelve last games. It can't be really good. It might
[27:11] Speaker 1: be four and eight, but one of eleven in the
[27:13] Speaker 1: last twelve night games. Here's the deal. If I'm being honest,
[27:22] Speaker 1: I will not if they lose Sunday. I won't feel
[27:28] Speaker 1: in my bones that they can't rally and make the playoffs.
[27:33] Speaker 1: And if the Chiefs make the playoffs, I'm sure by
[27:36] Speaker 1: the you know, if they were to fall to zero
[27:37] Speaker 1: and three and then make the playoffs. I'm sure by
[27:40] Speaker 1: the time the playoffs were all around all really like
[27:43] Speaker 1: their chances. But I am now saying sober minded before
[27:48] Speaker 1: the game. If they lose Sunday, it will signal that
[27:54] Speaker 1: this team is not a true contender the way Rechiefs
[28:00] Speaker 1: team has been since Mahomes got there, not because they
[28:04] Speaker 1: can't rally from zero to three, but because if you
[28:10] Speaker 1: can't beat the New York Giants in a game, you've
[28:14] Speaker 1: got to have without and you should have Xavier Worthy
[28:20] Speaker 1: back for it. I would think, so the only super
[28:23] Speaker 1: key player you're missing is Rashid Rice, then you're not
[28:27] Speaker 1: going to be good enough over the course of the
[28:30] Speaker 1: season to be a real super Bowl contender. So for Giants,
[28:36] Speaker 1: by the way, five and twelve at home since twenty
[28:39] Speaker 1: twenty three, So it's about what we would have thought.
[28:43] Speaker 1: So that's what's on the line. I have joked, not
[28:47] Speaker 1: really joked, that Mahomes has never had to play a
[28:56] Speaker 1: meaningful regular season game, and that is a little hyperbolic,
[29:04] Speaker 1: but in fact, I think what I've said is Mahomes
[29:08] Speaker 1: has never lost a meaningful regular season game, and that
[29:13] Speaker 1: to me was literally true until two years ago when
[29:18] Speaker 1: they actually had to go on the road in the playoffs,
[29:21] Speaker 1: with my argument having been the whole point of the
[29:23] Speaker 1: regular season is to get the best seat as possible
[29:26] Speaker 1: and to get home field in the playoffs. And if
[29:29] Speaker 1: the Chiefs have never gone on the road in the playoffs,
[29:31] Speaker 1: then none of the losses have ever hurt them. Two
[29:33] Speaker 1: years ago when they did have to go on the
[29:36] Speaker 1: road in the playoffs, some of those losses I suppose
[29:38] Speaker 1: did hurt them, but none of those games demons felt
[29:43] Speaker 1: like they had the stakes of Sunday Night. You can,
[29:51] Speaker 1: I think, explain away the first two weeks. Week one,
[29:58] Speaker 1: whole game plans thrown off off by Worthy getting hurt.
[30:02] Speaker 1: They you know, they they don't play well, they can't.
[30:06] Speaker 1: Herbert's playing out of his mind, you know. And the
[30:09] Speaker 1: Chargers win a neutral site game. Okay, you know what
[30:12] Speaker 1: I mean, not what you'd hope for, but okay. Game two,
[30:18] Speaker 1: the Chiefs again can't really get the passing game going
[30:22] Speaker 1: without their two star receivers or potential star receivers. Despite that,
[30:28] Speaker 1: and despite missing a kick and despite failing on a
[30:31] Speaker 1: fourth down early in the third quarter, they're on the
[30:35] Speaker 1: precipice of taking the lead and having control of the game,
[30:39] Speaker 1: and Kelsey makes a mistake, you know what I mean,
[30:41] Speaker 1: And you're playing a great team in Philadelphia. Fine, again,
[30:46] Speaker 1: not good and not excuses and not saying the Chiefs
[30:49] Speaker 1: deserve to win either game, but neither one of those
[30:53] Speaker 1: in a vacuum. If either one of those games had
[30:56] Speaker 1: happened in week five or Week eight or week twelve,
[31:00] Speaker 1: no one be concerned about it. You know what I mean. Okay,
[31:03] Speaker 1: you lose a one score neutral site game to a
[31:05] Speaker 1: contender in the Chargers. You lose a three point hard
[31:08] Speaker 1: fought game to the Eagles, so be it. Because they
[31:13] Speaker 1: happen in weeks one and two, and they're on the
[31:16] Speaker 1: heels of the Chiefs getting dog walked in the super Bowl.
[31:19] Speaker 1: It feels seismic, but in reality it's understandable. Losing to
[31:26] Speaker 1: the Giants this weekend would not be understandable. It would
[31:30] Speaker 1: mean that they are there are some systemic issues with
[31:38] Speaker 1: the team for this season that are not fixable to
[31:44] Speaker 1: the tune of going on a Super Bowl run. And
[31:48] Speaker 1: so that's what's on the line for Kansas City in
[31:52] Speaker 1: this game. I know you have some follow ups here.
[31:56] Speaker 2: Yeah, are you still worried at all? About the pass
[31:58] Speaker 2: rush and Russ comeing off of probably his best game,
[32:01] Speaker 2: or one of his best games in his career.
[32:03] Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I don't know how you can. I
[32:06] Speaker 1: don't know how you cannot be worried about the pass rush,
[32:10] Speaker 1: to be totally honest with you, Like Chris Jones tends
[32:15] Speaker 1: to get better as this season goes along. I know
[32:18] Speaker 1: he's an older player. I still believe he's the best
[32:22] Speaker 1: de tackle in football. He hasn't been dominant the first
[32:26] Speaker 1: two weeks, but I believe in Chris Carloftis just got paid.
[32:36] Speaker 1: Carloftis was a first round pick. Carloftis needs to be better.
[32:41] Speaker 1: And then the other guys Mike Dana who's hurt now,
[32:45] Speaker 1: Charles Amenaho who has been disappointing and been wholly ineffective
[32:51] Speaker 1: thus far this season, and then you have Ashton Gillette,
[32:54] Speaker 1: Gelot Jellette, my apologies a rookie, Omar Norman rookie. They've
[33:00] Speaker 1: gotta be able to create some type of pressure without
[33:05] Speaker 1: sending a blitz. With that said, I Russ having four
[33:11] Speaker 1: hundred and fifty yards last week does to me, does
[33:14] Speaker 1: not play into this at all.
[33:16] Speaker 2: Like I.
[33:19] Speaker 1: Last week, Russ was unbelievable. I don't think that was
[33:24] Speaker 1: him all of a sudden, turning back the clock permanently.
[33:27] Speaker 1: I think that was him turning back the clock for
[33:30] Speaker 1: an evening. Now, let me give you the bright side
[33:37] Speaker 1: of if they win. Okay, if they win, and I
[33:44] Speaker 1: believe they will win, I don't necessarily think it'll be pretty.
[33:48] Speaker 1: I don't necessarily think it'll be easy. But I am
[33:52] Speaker 1: arrow deep confident they'll win. They win all of a sudden,
[34:02] Speaker 1: they are playing a week four game to totally flip
[34:07] Speaker 1: every narrative that's existed thus far. Because you know who
[34:11] Speaker 1: comes to Kansas City in Week four? Your Baltimore Ravens. Yeah,
[34:16] Speaker 1: and the so the the what are you shaking your
[34:20] Speaker 1: head about?
[34:21] Speaker 2: Tell me, no, boys need to be worried.
[34:24] Speaker 1: Oh the Chiefs need to be worried. Maybe, but but
[34:27] Speaker 1: just follow me down this path. The point I'm making
[34:30] Speaker 1: is the Chiefs then will have in front of them
[34:35] Speaker 1: the ability, if they win Sunday, to say, we win
[34:40] Speaker 1: this home game against a team we literally always beat,
[34:46] Speaker 1: and they're the AFC contender everyone's worried about. We get
[34:50] Speaker 1: the whole Oh, if people freaked out about the Chiefs,
[34:53] Speaker 1: they had this brutal opening schedule. You know, they dealt
[34:56] Speaker 1: with an injury, dealt with a suspension. They're two and
[34:59] Speaker 1: two anyway, and Baltimore leaves that game at best two
[35:03] Speaker 1: and two, and we'll see what happens in Baltimore Detroit
[35:06] Speaker 1: on Monday night or I don't know if that's Monday
[35:08] Speaker 1: or Sunday, Sunday night. I know it's a night game.
[35:13] Speaker 1: Oh no, the Chiefs Sunday night obviously, so it's Monday night,
[35:17] Speaker 1: and maybe Baltimore is the team everyone's freaking out about, right,
[35:21] Speaker 1: And so certainly if Baltimore loses to Detroit, people will
[35:26] Speaker 1: be freaking out if they fall to one and three,
[35:28] Speaker 1: so they just have the opportunity to turn the whole thing.
[35:33] Speaker 1: It will not feel that way at all if they
[35:39] Speaker 1: lose to the Giants. If they lose to the Giants,
[35:43] Speaker 1: they will just feel like a bad team with a
[35:45] Speaker 1: great quarterback. And I don't believe that's what they are,
[35:50] Speaker 1: but they got to go prove it Sunday night.
[35:54] Speaker 2: So you have seven teams above the Chiefs right now,
[35:57] Speaker 2: and the Tears. I know that has to kill you.
[35:59] Speaker 2: Is this the worst that you felt about the Mahomes?
[36:02] Speaker 2: The worst that you felt about the Chiefs in the Mahomes.
[36:04] Speaker 1: Era, No, the worst I felt about them was post
[36:13] Speaker 1: It was the twenty twenty one season. They had just
[36:18] Speaker 1: gotten annihilated by the Box in the Super Bowl, and
[36:25] Speaker 1: that next year, not only did they start three and four,
[36:31] Speaker 1: but some ugly moments. Week one, they were playing Cleveland
[36:36] Speaker 1: and escaped with a win. Week two, Baltimore goes for
[36:44] Speaker 1: a fourth down late and beats them. Week three the Chargers,
[36:50] Speaker 1: if I beat them at the buzzer essentially, and then
[36:55] Speaker 1: week five they get annihilated by the Bills. And then
[37:00] Speaker 1: week seven they get annihilated twenty seven to three by
[37:07] Speaker 1: the Titans. The Titans, and so that team fell to
[37:15] Speaker 1: three and four, and you know, at that point, I
[37:19] Speaker 1: guess you include the Super Bowl, had lost five out
[37:22] Speaker 1: of eight and it was up until that Super Bowl
[37:27] Speaker 1: against the Bucks, Mahomes had never lost a game by
[37:31] Speaker 1: more than eight points. And then all of a sudden,
[37:34] Speaker 1: they get blasted in the Super Bowl. They get beat
[37:36] Speaker 1: by eighteen by Buffalo, they get beat by twenty four
[37:40] Speaker 1: by Tennessee, and a span of you know, two months
[37:43] Speaker 1: or two football months, that was the low point. Now
[37:47] Speaker 1: that team ended up going from three and four to
[37:50] Speaker 1: twelve and five, and then in the AFC Championship Game,
[37:54] Speaker 1: up twenty one to three at half time before that
[37:56] Speaker 1: second half meltdown against Cincinnati. And that was the only
[38:00] Speaker 1: year in this six year stretch they haven't made the
[38:04] Speaker 1: Super Bowl. But that was the worst I've ever felt
[38:07] Speaker 1: about them. This this so but this is.
[38:11] Speaker 2: Second the Giants. Okay, yeah, I was able to say
[38:14] Speaker 2: with a Giants win on Sunday, it's getting pretty oh no, no, no.
[38:17] Speaker 1: A Giants win puts us in totally new territory.
